I do wonder why I disdain this reply from Shuunnico. I won't @ her because she isn't worth it.

So a little context is that there was this ad campaign for the One Piece Live Action and one of the ads was Buggy being in the side or is just floating about in the PC browser version of Tumblr. A lot of people were rightfully annoyed by this, the photos I have seen makes it quite clear that Buggy is not welcome.

There's this post that tells how to remove the clown. A helpful post.

Then there's this reply by Shuunnico

Now there's layers to peel here and I'll peel my layers as well but I'd best get on with it.

Clowns. This doesn't really ring a bell for me. I don't really go to Tumblr for clowns. Most clown takes are either buried or in other websites, like Know Your Meme. It's just that this particular reply is quite rude and doesn't really assist in the situation. This implies that the users of this website are clowns, which is just plain rude. We are not. We are just expressing who we are, what we are and why we are. I am doing it right now.

Then there's the dismissal, not really stated nor implied, but one can make guesses that this particular person would dismiss the fear of clowns argument when it comes to this topic. It's just quite rude.

I do wonder why I consider this statement rude. It just sounds so...trollish. It feels similar to, "Oh, you come to Texas where there are guns and are offended when you see guns?" Which isn't necessarily rude but when used in a certain type of context, it becomes rude. Distasteful, in my eyes and that bugs me a lot. I don't really appreciate distasteful stuff and I'd like to understand it. Hence, why I have it as a screenshot. I would really love to try to see why Shuunnico would say this. I have a theory for that.

Next layer, Shuunnico has made some opinions about the Skullgirls censorship controversy a few months back. She is quite anti-censorship. To me, this isn't necessarily a red flag. I've made my stand on the Skullgirls censorship controversy but the idea of censorship in general? Well, I have some opinions about that but now is not the time. Her blog is not like ultra-maga or siryouarebeingmocked, it's quite tame in all honesty but that's how it goes. I just think that if you follow Shuunnico, you'd be introduced to gzeidraws or cookingwithroxy then you'll be on your way to siryouarebeingmocked or ultra-maga. Just individuals whose opinions I have a distaste of. I'd rather not be swamped with ideas like that at my leisure. The only one whom I consider to be of their kind, which I like and follow is religion-is-a-mental-illness. I appreciate them for posting the entire article that they link to as well. It is very, very nice of them to do so and for that, I appreciate it. That blog just gives their opinion at the end of the post. A small throwaway or whatnot.

Now, what does this say about me? I'm close-minded and not willing to be open to new ideas? Well, that's the thing with how ultra-maga and siryouarebeingmocked, and with others with the same family of opinions. It is stated like it's common knowledge. They never delve into it any further and any form of questions would be met with derision. r/KotakuInAction and /pol/ prove this very much. With /pol/, it is a given that they'd do something like that but I half-expected r/KotakuInAction to be open to discussions of that sort. I'm starting to miss TumblrInAction as they are quite great in their interactions. I made a post there once that I was so damn offended by, it was of a troll that said that those who are deployed in the military will have their wives get sexual with the troll, and I still am offended by just thinking about it. They just said it's funny. I never understood what was so funny. I never will.

I do admit that I have this issue with humor, I appreciate low-level humor but humor that somewhat ticks me off? I am not sure how to respond to that gracefully. I have never ever developed any form of familiarity with it. Thus, I have never developed any ways to deal with it save for the basic and childish one, anger and contempt. I am most aware of my flaws, I find it difficult to know what my next step is, though. My circle of friends are not the most supportive when it comes to this endeavor.

Now what does this mean to me? Well, personally I find that Shuunnico's reply feels somewhat distasteful to the situation at hand. Out of context, the reply is perfectly benign but the context included, which is many are detesting the intrusive clown promo for One Piece, it makes it distasteful. That is the crux of my issue with this particular reply.

I'd also like to take the time to talk about Know Your Meme's page on Tumblr. It has some of the posts I have seen here before, ones that I have liked but they also seem to have posts from the more distasteful squad that I have mentioned above. Quite popular too, based on the likes that those posts receive from the KYM community. I just found that, someone with my mental and emotional constitution, were to be exposed to those kinds of Tumblr posts as my introduction to Tumblr, I would reckon that I would have a distasteful view of this site. I am so darn thankful, that the posts I have been exposed to have shown how beautiful this site can be. And it has shown its beauty to me, countless times. I guess one of the major reasons why I find Shuunnico's reply so distasteful is that she would mean to include all the posts here that showed me how beautiful this site can be as "clowning" and those that posted them, as "clowns" which is a very, very great insult to my eyes. Alas, this is just all my interpretation and it would serve me well to consider it as nothing more than a small hiccup in my day-to-day.

I'm not gonna pretend I have anything super new or innovative to say about Mobile Suit Gundam. It's one of the most-analyzed anime ever, and I pale in comparison to some of the people who *have* analyzed it, but here I am, thinking about it regardless.

For context, I am watching this as part of a---as she called it---"comet swap" with my good friend @charaznablespeteevee, where I watch a mecha anime she is obsessed with (Gundam) and she watches one I am obsessed with (Code Geass). I'm not sure if I'm going to write a big long post like this about every episode (since I'm going to *try* to watch at least one per day, that would get quite exhausting), but I am liveblogging it more informally over on the worst website on Earth, if you're willing to put up with that Nazi-infested hellhole long enough to read some posts from yours truly.

In any case, Gundam and Code Geass. are many differences between these, the main ones being that Code Geass is more recent and also not widely hailed as a masterpiece of its form. It does *draw* notably from Gundam though despite having very different artistic aims and a different tone, so watching this makes sense in a way. I spent way too much of my teenagerhood obsessed with Lelouch, and now I'm watching the anime that his archetypal grandfather came from. (Goddess have mercy on my soul.)

My experience with Gundam as a franchise prior to this is very limited, but I do have some. For reference, I have seen all of:

Gundam 00, back when it aired on the SyFy channel when they had an anime block many years ago. I really liked this as a teenager but I don't remember it super well.

The Witch From Mercury, lesbian space combat, with a notable Code Geass staff connection. WFM was not perfect or anything but I loved it a lot and Suletta is very dear to me. I actually bought an Aerial gunpla a few months ago that is currently sitting unassembled in my closet.

the first Gundam 0079 compilation movie. Now, it might seem weird that I've seen this and am now going back to watch the TV series. But, while I remember the general outline of what happened, I was SUPER sick when I watched it, and I only remember what happened really, really vaguely. While I have some idea of the general outline of what's to come, I'm mostly going in genuinely blind.

like 4 or 5 episodes of Victory Gundam, which I liked but kind of fell off of. So we're giving the franchise a proper second go here.

I'm a mecha fan more generally, and I'll get into some of that as I write these, but for now that's the relevant stuff.

Anyway, my main impression of 0079's first episode is actually a structural one. It's REALLY well put together. We introduce the setting, we introduce our main characters, and we introduce the main conflict, all very economically and with a lot of style---more style than some shows with significantly less room to work with manage, in fact---and I'm immediately invested in the fate of our main character, Amuro Ray.

From what I gather here (and a little bit from outside information), my impression is that of a kid who loses his innocence very, very rapidly over the course of this story. Here, the space-hab-thing he lives on is attacked, and he ends up in the cockpit of an experimental superweapon called a Gundam (maybe you've heard of them?). I LOVE how the Gundam is framed here, like some kind of genuinely scary war machine. It's an intentionally othering effect i mostly associate with later mecha anime, especially those with outright monstrous mecha like Evangelion or even The Big O, so to see it here in such a comparatively early series in the genre is impressive.

The episode's climax sees him kill two soldiers from the enemy nation of Zeon, but it's not a triumphant thing, really. He's portrayed as kind of not really knowing what he's doing, flailing around inside this gigantic walking tank / mechanical war god. But then when he *does* figure things out, well, he has to deal with the fact that he just killed two dudes. Going by the cliffhangery ending here, it doesn't seem like his troubles are over, either.

I shudder to think what will become of it one day, I imagine sentience isn't very far off

why is this an interview question. I dont know my strengths really?? um. I have good ideas, that one I'll say. execution is a different story (likely one that will never get told. like the rest of my good ideas)

I also think I do fairly well with scene descriptors. I really like to set a scene because I'm seeing a movie in my head and you all should too!

I'm down to clown globally! I dont like to use google translate though, so if im writing in another language it's only because SOMEONE on the server is a native speaker and can vouch for my text.

oh god one direction. head in hands. it was an 'adopted by 1d' fic that I made my mom beta, and turned it in to my 6th grade English teacher as my creative writing assignment. then I made a poem about it. then I wrote a song about it. thankfully it never got published and is trapped in the cursed purple file folder it was 'hidden' in since 7th grade. my first published fic was almost 7 years later with a Gomens fic!

AHh um. favorite child scene here, but top contenders include: lithium + 5 for its graphic design and medical accuracy, fiery veins on speechless days for its emotional whump that makes me hurt every time I reread it, [PODFIC] wither on the shore which is not a fic I wrote but one of my favorite podfics of @silk-scarlet-ribbons 's works.

Just saw again the lovely thread-post you made after you got your hearing has been aided thanks to a kind soul in my mutuals who reblogged it. To this day, it's still one of my favorite post on this hellhole (affectionate) website.

Contrary to you, I have hyperacusis and hear the world in a constant state of loud, really loud, too loud. And I became so used to the overcrowding of my hearing that I forgot how wonderful sounds could be.

Your post reminded me of that. Of the little joys we can get hearing a cat purr, the gurgle of the river, the scruching of fallen leaves while walking in the forest... So, thank you. For sharing this bit of joy and reminding me that even if the world can be loud, shutting it completly would mean missing so many beautiful sounds. And talking about sounds, you probably had the time to experience a lot of them by now. Is your cat's purring still one of your favorite ? If I had to choose only one, my favorite would be wind chimes. They have such a lovely sound. I wish you the sweetest day.

hi! im sorry to hear about your struggles. I'm autistic and before I got my hearing aid, the sounds I could hear sometimes got a little too much, and it's certainly a struggle now I can hear better. sometimes I have to take the aid out because its just too much. First day I got the aid I actually had a horrendous headache for 2 days after because of the constant flow of new information pouring in. I didnt really talk about that aspect because I didnt feel like focusing on the downsides when I could finally hear things, being deaf all my life and suddenly realising how bad it actually was and what I'd been missing out on...I even appreciate the bad sounds because I can hear them. I don't say all this to make your struggles about myself, simply to say: I get it.

I still love hearing my cat purring, but a close contender is the sound of water. any sound of water. River? amazing. sea? fantastic. waterfall? incredible. small stream bubbling? stunning. perfection.

Way back in the day (in ye olde 2012) the top tags were curated. I think there were curated tags for Comics, Photography, Artists, Poetry, Anime, and Film. Curators had a 3 ish month appointment and they tended to be working professionals related to the tag, or top creators (like gif set creators). They approved of posts related to the tag, and the 3 month appointment kept drama down. I remember I loved the Comics curated tag and I found a lot of people to follow from that tag. Because they were people who worked in the industry, they knew who the cool people were. And after three months there would be new curators who had different opinions and it was always fresh. Being a curator was aspirational, at least to me. I think it got discontinued when Verizon bought the site in 2013. I maintain that this was a really good feature and it’s a shame they stopped doing it.

If people new to the site are having a hard time finding people to follow, and having a hard time finding communities, it’s bc the current website makes it hard to find them. The problem isn’t the dashboard, it’s the tags. Currently, searching tags is a hellhole. And I realize, we all have different tastes and it’s not necessarily fair to reject someone from the tag (altho there were always other uncurated tags that people used back when this system was in place) But as it stands, search on this website is a joke. People have been complaining for years that most fandom related tags are full of bloat.

Currently, I think the initiatives to spotlight different artists and communities thru official tumblr staff blogs is a step in the right direction. New users and even old users should have ways to find the good stuff through the chaff.

The mainstream tumblr userbase has built a lot of distrust towards staff, I think for good reason, and I know that everything staff does generates criticism, even when staff is coming from a good place. The curated tags take some of the trust burden off of staff and into the community. It would make the website feel more like we had a stake in our own experiences here.

idk about you but I love getting my opinions on one of the titans of English literature from a barely post-pubescent 20-something child on tumblr, a website famous for having users with great reading comprehension, critical thinking and no impulse whatsoever to fall into purity culture nonsense at the drop of a hat. I also love the English courts of law, and anti-sodomy laws, and I immediately and uncritically trust them when they accuse a gay man of being a pedophile. There is nothing wrong, childish or immature about this and I don't need to grow up

PURITY CULTURE??? PURITY CULTURE?????? Oh my bad folks I didn’t realise grooming 16 year old boys as a 30-something year old man was just rebelling against purity culture. And for your information, I’ve done plenty of research into anti-sodomy laws at the time of Wilde’s trials, and I’ve also read multiple sources of shorthand translations of the proceedings of the trials themselves, and anyone with two brain cells could tell that the way Wilde spoke wasn’t the way an innocent man would speak, and the evidence compiled against him was overwhelming, regardless of any bias the court may have had. True, the bias in question is fair to bring up and discuss, but it doesn’t negate his extremely likely guilt. It’s extremely unlikely that the man was innocent, from the evidence itself to Wilde’s tone during his “defence”.

Of course, everything has drawbacks, everything has a grain of salt, not everything is fullproof, there’s room for argument everywhere and of course the two sources I linked there aren’t fully enough for a big picture, and context of the time, surrounding impact, further accounts etc should all be looked into — however, in weighing up the evidence and legitimacy of sources and conflating information on all sides, personally I’m ridiculously extremely confident that Wilde was guilty, and I think the fact that this isn’t really widespread historical information is ridiculous.

You’re right, you shouldn’t take things you see on Tumblr as full proof undisputed fact. You’re right, Tumblr is a hellhole a lot of the time for misinformation and bad literary comprehension and analysis. But that doesn’t mean anything you see anywhere is objectively wrong, and you should do a small molecule of proper research and critical thinking from seeing those posts before spouting bullshit.

Chapter 1: Your Guilt Still Lies Within You

Summary: A few months after the events of WOTFI 2023, SMG4 starts having really bad dreams about the "Its gotta be perfect" incident. One night however, his fear allows the nightmares to break through and he gets taken to a horrific dimension. He finally meets the tv adware, who manipulates him into returning to his insane ways, intent on claiming much more than the perfect video. Now it's up to his friends to stop this madness and save SMG4. Can they do it in time or will they lose SMG4 forever? (In case you are unaware this is a sequel to the its gotta be perfect movie)

It was a beautiful day at Peach's castle as Four was busy at his computer, making some videos. He was humming that catchy Mario theme song till he heard a knock at the door. "Coming!" He was going to answer it until he realized he was stuck at his chair. "That's...odd..." The knocking at the door turned into pounding as voices could be heard outside. "Four are you okay?" Another voice piped up "Get out of your room dude! Your friends are worried about you!" Four gasped as he knew those voices belonged to Meggy and Three.

The thumping of the door echoed through his hears as he struggled to get out of his seat. Why was did this feel.........so familiar...? Four was really starting to freak out now as he pulled all of his strength to get out of chair, but something wouldn't let him. Then he saw it. From the reflection of his computer screen he could see the insane man who had shut everyone out for weeks. He was back living that same traumatic experience from March 10. That very same scene.

He looked up to see the very sus website that displayed that hellhole keyboard. The tv icon popped up and said "Hey! It looks like you need a bit of editing help!" Four was shaking, terrified, struck with fear. "N-N-No...not again."

"Can I interest you in a magical keyboard? It's guaranteed to make your work PERFECT!" The moment that word was spoken, the room melted into black goop. Four collapsed on the ground as tentacles reached out to grab his arms. He pulled himself up as a dark substance flooded out of the computer and was heading straight towards him. He started running as fast as he could, but the darkness was hot on his trail. "Stop!" Four called out, but it didn't listen. The walls and ceilings of the environment was crumbling around him. "Why won't you just leave me and my friends alone!?"

He started to grow tired as the black fog was surrounding him. He looked up to see a wave of mist crashing down on him. "NOOOO!" He could feel his body being cracked, split, pulled apart. His skin fell like it was on fire and he began lurching, hunched over. A glowing pink substance was dripping from his mouth and tears began streaming from his eyes. It seemed as if someone was controlling him as the last thing heard was "STAY AWAY!" It all faded into black and Four had lost control. He had returned to his-

*Gasp* Four woke up in a cold sweat. Observing his surroundings, he noticed he was back in his castle at the Showgrounds. "Just a dream..." Four breathed a sigh of relief. "It felt so real." He reached over for his phone to check the time: 8:09 AM. Admiring defeat, he sighed and slowly trudged out from bed to go check himself in the bathroom. He made his way through all those toilets and went up to the mirror. "Not that bad." It wasn't exactly what he expected as his hair was a bit of a mess and his eyes had dark bags. Other than that he was fine. Then that image from the computer screen of his dream flashed in his mind. Breathing heavily, he looked down at his hands to see that they were...shaking?

"God what's wrong with me?" He pulled out a brush to fix his hair and went back to his room to get dressed. "Maybe some fresh air would do me some good." That seemed like a good idea considering he didn't even want to try to make videos right now. Lucky for him it was a bright and sunny day. He managed to walk out of the door for like 5 seconds until he crashed right into someone. Adjusting his eyes from the sunlight, he saw it was..."Three?"

Three picked himself up and began brushing off the dirt that managed to cling to his clothes. "Watch where you're going idiot!" Ignoring that last part, Four steadily got up and rubbed his head. "Sorry. I just haven't been sleeping that well. I've been having these awful nightmares ever since the heist." Before Three was able to make a remark, Meggy and Mario came up to greet them. "Hey you two! What do you mean by nightmares Four?" He began twirling his index fingers nervously. "Well I-"

"Hold on! What is up with your eyes! It looks more like you haven't even been sleeping for a week!" Meggy and Mario took notice of his dark circles as well. "Ooooo are you going coo coo crazy again SMG4?" 

"That's exactly it Mario! All these nightmares have been centered around the "perfect video" incident." It looked incredibly painful for him to say that. "Hmmmm...do you know what could be causing it?" If anything would be causing it, it would be the guilt that Four felt when casting aside his friends like that, but he could feel that there was something else that was plaguing him with these bad dreams. "I'm not entirely sure Meggy." Mario suddenly got an idea. "Mario knows!  We should have a hangout!" They all looked back at him with perplexed looks.

"And how is that exactly supposed to help with Four's nightmares?" Three questioned. "SMG4 will feel a lot better if he's having fun with his friends!" Mario then went off to go invite all of his friends. "Actually I'd think that would really help." Meggy reassured Three. He rolled his eyes and headed back to his cafe. "Fine. But I'm bringing Eggdog." Four still felt some unsettlement in him, but Meggy placed a hand on his shoulder. "Don't worry Four. A fun night with friends will cheer you up in no time!" Four agreed and said goodbye to Meggy so he could get the castle ready. "I really hope this works."

On one hand having people in who wouldn t usually play and who are pretty big or ogs is really cool, and we ll probably get several hermits, but at the same time it kind of establishes a hierarchy of exactly which participants mojang values more so it s a bit 😬😬 in my eyes. I also admit i m preparing myself to see 100 posts about the inevitable grian team with like tubbo, lizzie and freaking mumbo or smth. Okay it's cannon but like in an alternative universe because Comics. I just think the fact DC made Known Murderer and Reblious Teen with Daddy Issues a Catholic priest in a different universe. Just. Casually.

Jason Todd is may or may not be Catholic in the main timeline of DC Comics, but I the Flashpoint storyline, my man is a priest! He was a drug addict, thief, and in the Blood Brother cult before dying, only to come back to life and decide to become a priest in the hellhole that is Gotham. In the main timeline, he comes back after dying and stuffs a duffel bags full of heads! The common trait before all Jason Todds is that they all have to be as dramatic as possible. Dying and coming back as the most unexpected thing. Unbelievable. I love this man.

i might be poking a bear best left to the archives of my other blog. but. it still hurts me so much that the thing i caught the most hate for across my various adventures of this fucking website was the time i, an aromantic asexual just coming to terms with what that meant for my life and future, dared to be hurt by John Watson in BBC Sherlock (which everyone still loved at the time) stating that a romantic relationship would improve Sherlock as a human being.

I got people sending me all the vile things the discourse could generate. I wasn't even primarily upset that they'd implied that Sherlock might not be aro/ace, that stung but i didn't really expect it to stick. I was upset that a character I liked and looked up to at the time was saying outright and with no wiggle room that being uninterested in romance was a fundamental flaw of someone's personhood.

I never watched another second of Sherlock after that. Never finished that show that up to then had meant so much to me. Because John said the things he said. And i went a ran to my room and made a sad and angry post on my blog all about asexuality and aromanticism and then for daring to be hurt by this i was subjected to all the violent rage tumblr could produce.

I wonder why i stayed on this god damn hellhole of a website. I really do.

How To Achieve Your Goals As A Young Writer

Due to the onset of the internet and online support programs, young writers are emerging into the writing scene and setting goals to finish novels. However, this can be ambitious, so Smrithi Senthilnathan is offering her advice on how to achieve your goals as a young writer.

I’ve only done NaNoWriMo once before, but I absolutely loved the experience! Not only did I manage to write a full 50k novel, but I also gained a lot of friends and knowledge about the craft of writing. Now I want to pass it on to you, by telling you how you can fulfill your Camp NaNoWriMo goals as a young writer.

Achieve your goals as to set a goal that suits your writing style and life. 

Camp NaNoWriMo is an event where you set your own writing goals. This means that you do not have to set a goal that you think will be too hard for you. If you’re tied up with school work and can only manage to write around 500 words or less per day, you can always set a goal for 10k words. This event is all about making sure you reach your goals. That being said, if you think that April will be a light month for you in terms of other workloads, feel free to set a goal for 100k words or even more. Go crazy, go wild but remember: make sure your goal is doable but don’t make it too easy; it has to be something a little out of your comfort zone, something you’ll need to push yourself to complete. Hence, take some time to evaluate your current situation and what you think will be most apt for you, and then choose your goal accordingly.

Plan ahead of time. 

At heart I am a plotter and I do not even start writing a story without having a completed outline, a couple of character sketches and a good idea of my world (I mostly write fantasy). While I know that a lot of people are pantsers and write stories from scratch, personally I would not advise that, especially if you’re still in the beginning stages of your writing. The NaNoWriMo website has a lot of helpful resources under the NaNo prep section, and I highly suggest you at least use some of them to plot out your novel. Trust me, it really helps. Since NaNo is all about writing quickly without worrying about editing, you won’t be able to write quickly unless you know what’s going to happen in the story. Although the fun of writing is creating as you go, having a basic outline will help make sure you don’t get stuck in the middle.

Find some helpful writing buddies.

I cannot stress the importance of writing to friends. They motivate you when you’re down, hype you up when you’re excited, and help you work through all those plot holes you can’t seem to fix. Try to find writing buddies of your own age and frequency, so that you’re able to interact with them better. 

Create a good writing routine that is easy to keep up even on the bad days. 

Even if you don’t write for the same amount of time, if you write at the same time every day it’ll become a habit. Even on your bad days you’ll still show up to write at that time, thus keeping up the habit.

Focus only on writing.

Don’t stop to think about editing, even for a minute. If you get sucked into the editing hellhole, you’ll never be able to find your way out. NaNo is all about just getting that first draft out there, and so only focus on that. 

Recognize and celebrate the small achievements. 

Every chapter you finish, every word you write is a step closer to your goal. Keep recognizing your achievements, no matter how small, so that you always have something to look back at and smile at.

And that’s about it! Each writer works differently and I can’t say that these will work for you, but if you’re a young writer like me and you’re new to NaNo, you might want to try some of these out to help achieve your goals. But also remember that it’s completely okay not to achieve your goals. You’re doing this only for you and no matter whether you meet your goals or not, you’ve still added words to your project, and you’re still a valid writer. So keep writing, and don’t stop no matter what.
