was listening to fleetwood mac in the car yesterday and picked up maggie. the chain came on and i said “this song is a curse because i love it but it reminds me i can play mandolin” “YOU CAN PLAY MANDOLIN??”
i officially have Dad Lore.
also we got halloween costumes. it’s gonna be rad. taking ruth’s nieces trick or treating.
matt’s in town. fucking wild. haven’t seen him in years.
other shit has happened probably but i blacked out less than twenty minutes ago and am currently nonverbal. plus all my competence is spent on ofmd brainrot. my instagram fan page is active to a concerning degree.
i’m waiting for my psychiatrist to call. was supposed to see her in person today. i just was rambling yesterday about how bullshit that is. “it’s exclusive to disabled people now that we’ve established we can do it over the phone” “it’s the rules stevie.” as if i ever gave a fuck. and today i woke up crying and blacked out when i tried to get out of bed so no fucking WAY am i going two towns over to go “can i pwetty pwease have my pills so i don’t kill myself also can you refer me to a ketamine clinic”
fuck it i’m crying in front of this bitch. try me. i’m listening to the velvet underground i’ll cry at you SO hard you’ll be up at night uncomfortable over it.
i think i’m getting over sugar as of today. thought about her and there was only disgust. there was still yearning yesterday. maybe i’m just missing my yearning ability because i almost fucking died while waking up, but i hope it’s gone.
she doesn’t give a shit about anyone but herself and her reputation. she’s all caring and nice until it’s inconvenient or challenges her flimsy beliefs. she fucking threw me away and somehow i’m the one all messed up over it. as if it wasn’t all her fault. i think she’s working at the new starbucks by the high school based off of context clues, so i guess i’m never fucking going in there. i’m too good for that. not a fan of corporate coffee anyway. i’m a fan of the taste but i can just get a shitty one at the gas station for cheaper that treats my migraines much better.
can’t fucking believe i went on a Bender For The Ages over someone who thinks taylor swift is the second coming of jesus christ. and watches racist minecraft streamers. and talks out loud in public about how she wants them to fuck her. and will pick anyone over me despite how she was always on about how i’m her favorite person in the world. i stole shit and cried and lashed out and screamed and drank and smoked myself fucking comatose over that??
of course i miss her. she was the only person i was honest with. but i also really fucking love lying so i’m doing great.
if she came back and said sorry, i’d probably take her back eventually. i hate to admit it. i mean i completely fucking shut down whenever i’ll be your mirror comes on, what else do you expect out of me? but come ON, she’s too self-victimizing for it to even cross her mind. try to kill yourself for being gay and then we’ll talk babe <33

Switched- A Fred and George Weasley Fan Fic
Fred and George Weasley are the most infamous duo at Hogwarts- you'll never find one without the other trailing close behind. Many people can't even tell them apart, and even fewer try to figure it out. However, there is more to the twins than meets the eye. Perhaps being two halves of the same whole isn't their choice in the first place. When a date with George's longtime crush leads to a new budding romance, chaos ensues within the Gryffindor house. This girl holds some key to George's future, but can he outrun the danger that comes with loving her?
~All characters, places, objects, and events that happen in the Harry Potter Universe are property of J.K Rowling. I own none of them. This book is purely a work of fan fiction.~

Chapter Three- The Boathouse
Stevie's POV:
The arrival of the Beauxbaton and Durmstrang students was as spectacular as it was anticipated.
However, once the initial excitement wore off, the extra students became more of a burden than anything. Suddenly there were lines to use the toilets in between classes, and walking through the halls became more of a slow crawl than the normal swift movements.
"Merlin's Beard! KEEP MOVING. YOU CAN'T JUST STAND THERE BECAUSE YOU'RE LOST AGAIN!" I shouted, squeezing past a cluster of Durmstrang girls who had blocked off an entire half of the first floor corridor.
"What's got you all up in arms today?" Adrian questioned, running to keep up with me.
"I'm not up in arms. I'm just tired of having to leave 15 minutes early to be able to make it to breakfast on time." I groaned at the sight of a Beauxbaton's couple locked at the lips.
"They're only going to be here until the tournaments over. And some of the Durmstrang guys are pretty cool." Adrien shrugged.
I abruptly swung around to face him, forcing Adrien to walk into me, as he didn't have enough time to stop. "They don't even let Muggleborns in their school. How cool can any of them be?"
Adrien sighed and turned me back around, guiding me to continue walking. "Don't tell me you're letting that Weasley boy get into your head already. You haven't even gone out with him yet."
"Piss off." I rolled my eyes, shaking his arms off of my shoulders. I quickly climbed down the stairwell next to me, and headed into the potions classroom. Adrien followed, sitting down beside me.
"How are you feeling about the date anyways? Change your mind yet?" He whispered as Snape strolled by.
I pulled out my potions textbook and set it on the table in front of us. "Nervous, I guess. I've never been on an actual date before- and like it or not I'm still going."
"Honestly, I'm surprised you said yes. Didn't think you cared about anything before the sex." Adrien mumbled, opening his book to the page number written on the board.
I slapped his arm, "That was so uncalled for."
"But not wrong."
"Why are you so concerned with what I chose to do?" I hissed back, flipping passed the potion instructions I was looking for.
"I'm not concerned. Just surprised is all." He huffed.
"Oh really? That's not what it sounds like to me. You've been such an arse since George asked me out. I don't know if you're just jealous or something, but you need to sort it out."
"Jealous? Is that what you think I am?" He snorted, rolling his eyes "You're that desperate for attention, now?"
"Seriously- what is your deal? I don't know what you want me to do." I cried, slamming my hands down on the table.
"Well maybe stop mentioning George when you know I'm in love with you!" Adrian hissed, his breathing starting to speed up.
"You brought it up! I haven't even- wait. You're... what?" I stuttered.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Pucey and Miss Blythe- I was unaware that your conversation was more important than my potions lesson." Snape scowled, staring over at me and Adrian.
"M'sorry sir." We echoed, straightening up against his glare.
"As I was saying, you will be brewing a draught of peace. I expect you all to begin thinking about whether or not you want to be in this classroom next year. From the looks of it, my N.E.W.T.S level class will be quite small..."

George's P.O.V
Professor McGonagall was standing at the front of the room, demonstrating some spell we were supposed to be learning. My eyes were watching the clock above her heading, praying for the ticking to slow down. My date with Stevie was supposed to be tomorrow, and every hour that marked it closer made me more nervous.
Despite dreaming about this day for years, I never wanted it to come. I knew Fred and I were going to switch- because of my nerves being on high alert, it'd been happening every 30 minutes or so. During the actual date, there's no telling how often we could go back and forth.
Fred slid a note to me, his eyes not leaving the gerbil in the front of the room that had just been a tea cup moments ago.
You look like you're gonna to be sick.
I rolled my eyes before quickly scribbling down a response.
I’ll try to miss your shoes. No promises.
Fred snorted quietly and wrote back to me.
How about you pay attention? I haven't understood a thing she's said so you'll have to figure it out.
I crumpled up the note and shoved it into the pocket of my robes. Despite my best efforts, I couldn't manage to cling onto a word McGonagall was saying. My thoughts kept creeping back to the chance meeting on the astronomy tower, and the way her laugh sounded with her tired, morning voice.
I felt dazed, as if somehow I was Imperiused, but my anxiety was multiplied instead of fading away. Perhaps I'd rather be Imperiused than have this damned gnawing in my chest.
As soon as the clock signaled the end of class, I bolted up out of my seat. I heard Fred scrambling to follow me, trying to match my pace.
"Oi- what're you in such a rush for?" He called from behind me.
I sighed before slowing down, letting him catch up with me. "Just nervous s'all." I mumbled.
"Well knock it off- Lee just got our new shipment of goods in, and we've got a whole new selection of products to try out tonight. Our new prototype of fainting fancies should be ready by now!" Fred chattered.
I nodded and gave him a weak smile, my mind still drifting off to what was to come. Fred continued to rhapsodize about our new products, and I didn't have the heart to tell him I wasn't listening. I knew business would be booming, and Fred and Lee would need me on my A game to round up enough first years to try them out. As we passed the stairs to the dungeons, Stevie came storming up them, a desperate looking Adrian following behind her.
"Look- Stevie stop. Would you just listen to me?" Adrian cried, grabbing ahold of her forearm.
"Let. Go. Of. Me." She spat, attempting to wiggle her arm from his grasp.
"No," Adrien tightened his grip around her "not until you hear me out."
"Seriously A- you're hurting me." Stevie whimpered, no longer struggling against him.
"She said let go, mate." I snarled, standing protectively behind Stevie.
He let go of her arm with a huff, shoving it back to Stevie's side. "Oh great- her knight in second hand armor."
"Are we going to have a problem here?" Fred asked, coming to stand behind Adrian.
The combination of the fact that we were cornering him and that we towered over him quite a bit, made Adrian back down quite quickly.
"No. I guess we don't." He slinked away, turning fast on his heels and running back down the stairs to the dungeons.
"Are you alright, love?" I asked, moving to stand in front of Stevie.
She took in a shaky breath before nodding her head. Her arm was slightly red where Adrian had grabbed it, just showing below the hem of her sleeve.
"I'm gonna head up to the common room. I'll see you later." Freddie whispered, leaving Stevie and I alone, with the dozens of onlookers in the corridor.
"Do you wanna go somewhere and talk? Or I can take you back down to your common room." I offered, smiling softly at her.
"Uh yeah, I'd love to talk actually." Stevie started heading towards the front steps of the school, ignoring the glances of those around us.
I followed her, not asking where we were going. We passed through the entrance corridor, and she quickly began racing down the rest of the steps, heading towards the lake. Since it was beginning to fade into October, there was a slight chill in the air that got worse the farther we descended. Stevie didn't slow her pace until we were outside the boathouse and she yanked the handle, pulling open the solid wooden door.
"Shut it behind you. Last time we didn't, a blast ended skrewt followed us in here. It wasn't terribly fun." She called over her shoulder.
I did as she asked and watched as she began climbing the ladder into one of the boats hanging on the wall.
"Come here often I presume?" I joked, quickly climbing up after her.
"You can say that. I come here to get away from everyone. I don't usually bring other people here just..." Stevie's words trailed off.
"Pucey." I finished.
She nodded before wistfully looking across the room, lost in some thought I couldn't uncover even if I tried. There were multiple blankets and pillows piled in the boat, making it feel more like a hammock than anything else. We swayed slightly, the breeze growing stronger now, and I suddenly realized how nervous I was. Somehow the rush of being able to save her from Adrian had overshadowed the fact that I am absolutely terrified to be alone with her. Yet- when I looked at her face, her sad eyes glistening with unshed tears, I felt my fears melt away.
"Do you want to talk about it?" I offered, reaching out and gingerly taking one of her hands in mine. My quite large hands covered her dainty one easily. She was freezing, and I quickly picked up her other hand to help warm her a bit.
"I'm going to sound crazy." She smiled at me, shaking her head slightly.
"I know a thing or two about crazy. Try me." I encouraged, smiling back.
"I've known Adrian since our first year- he's one of the only people that I talk to. My dormmates suck, and so do his. Naturally, we quickly became friends and take every class together. He's my best friend, but after you asked me out it's like he changed. He was so mad at me for saying yes, and spent the past week trying to change my mind. Then during potions today he-" her voice trailed off and she took in a deep breath. I squeezed her hands lightly signaling her that it was okay to continue. "He told me he's in love with me. I knew he had feelings for me, but I thought it was a crush at best. Both of our parents have been pushing for it- nothing's better than a pureblood relationship to them. But who wants to grow up exactly according to their parents plans? Then suddenly I'm the arse because I don't want to date him? I've never seen him so mad before today. The way he looked at me right before you interrupted- it kind of scared me. And then I also kinda feel guilty because maybe our friendship this whole time was me unknowingly leading him on. Perhaps this is the only way to not disappoint my parents, go into a loveless marriage and then- fuck, I'm so sorry I'm just rambling to you."
I smiled at her and pulled her into my arms. Her body relaxed against mine, and I instinctively brought my hands to run through her hair. "You're not an arse just because you don't have feelings for someone. You don't need to do everything your parents want, either. You're allowed to have your own dreams."
She sniffled a little and laughed into my chest "You haven't met my parents."
"Well, I'll make sure to disappoint them when I do." I joked, closing my eyes.
We stayed there for a moment, just the two of us, swaying slightly in the boat. It was like we were the only people left in the world. My heart wasn't beating out of control- it was just thrumming desperately against my throat. My hands were calm and still against her body and I swore I could almost stay like that forever. She pulled away from chest and brought her face inches away from mine. I felt my breath hitch in my chest, stopping me from being able to breathe properly. I moved my hand to tuck a loose strand of her hair behind her ear.
"Can I-?" I couldn't even get the words fully out before she crashed her lips into mine.
The world was sucked out from under me. I felt like I was floating- somewhere beyond time and space. There was nothing left except her lips on mine, and the smell of her perfume. I silently begged for more time here, for us not to switch right now. I pulled away from her lips and rested our foreheads together- I wanted this to be a moment between just the two of us, not letting Freddie be able to take over. I closed my eyes awaited the familiar sense of my soul being sucked out of my body, ready to be in the warm common room, to feel a lifetime away from this moment.
Yet, when I opened my eyes, I found Stevie's staring back at me.
"Did you...feel that?" She panted, pulling back from me.
"I- uh, yeah. I did." I coughed out, trying to catch my breath.
"Wicked." She grinned, and jumped forward to close the gap between our lips again.

Soulmates
Soulmate imagine where your soulmate can hear the music you’re listening to and if you sing along they can hear you.
Also Mj’s birthday is changed but my birthday is tomorrow so I wanted to have hers close.
Warnings: a few swear words but that’s it
"You're always humming that song" I say to Mj as we're sat at the skate park after school.
"It's my soulmate. They are literally always singing and listening to it" she says stopping her humming.
"Or the song is simply stuck in your head, soulmates are a bunch of bull" I say kicking my skateboard back and forth.
"They aren't, you just don't have your soulmate yet, you're only 16" she says and I laugh standing up and I get on my skateboard.
"This soulmate shit is complete bullshit" I say skating off and she jumps on hers following me.
"Your soulmate definitely listens to you listen and sing Broadway all day" she says and I take my headphones out and she laughs.
"Let me guess it's either Hamilton or Waitress" she says and I shake my head.
"Waitress. But shut up" I say skating away faster and when we get to the split I wave at her.
"See you tomorrow bitch" I say.
"Bye fucker" she says and I skate left headed home.
I drop my skateboard by the front door and I run upstairs getting started on my homework and I slide into my desk chair spinning around as I hook up my music and I put my headphones on my head and I unlock my computer getting started on my essay.
"New York City" I sing tapping my pencil against my desk as I do my math.
"The city's yours, it's worth fighting for, it's all yours" I sing scribbling my answers down because I can't be bothered to write it down neatly and I flip my page over.
"A single mom who works too hard, who loves her kids and never stops" I sing putting on just the theme song and I sing along the whole time it's stuck in my head.
"Are you okay?" Ned asks Peter as he sits there silently.
"Yeah, I'm good. She's just keeps singing the theme song to Reba over and over" he says laughing and Ned laughs.
"Is she watching it?" He asks.
"No, she’s definitely just listening to the theme song, she's singing it like back to back" he says.
"Who do you think it is?" Ned asks.
"Honestly just when I think I'm getting closer and closer she throws me for a loop and I can't narrow it down" he says sighing.
The next morning I skate to meet up with Mj and she smiles at me and I smile back and we skate to school in silence, it being way too early for us to talk and greet each other "I'll see you in fourth" she says when we get in the school and I nod heading to calculus.
"My roots are planted in the past though my life is changing fast" I sing as I switch my books out at my locker.
"What are you singing?" Mj asks and I jump shutting my locker and taking my headphone out.
"Nothing" I say quickly.
"That was Reba" she says and I laugh.
"I was watching it a while back and it's been stuck in my head for like two weeks. I sang it like 40 times yesterday while doing homework" I say and she laughs.
"Your poor soulmate" she says and I laugh.
"I don't have one" I say.
"So much Reba" I hear Peter tell Ned as they stroll past.
"Oh my god did you hear that?" Mj asks grabbing my arm and shaking me and I nod laughing.
"Yeah but that doesn't mean anything" I say and she nods.
"It does though. To lunch" she says dragging me off to the cafeteria.
"Hey Peter, hey Ned" Mj says sitting down.
"Hey Mj, Yn" Ned says and I smile at him as I sit down
"How are you?" I ask.
"I'm good. Thanks for asking" he says.
"How are you?" He adds.
"Besides being sick, I'm absolutely good" I say.
"Hey Peter what's going on in that head of yours?" Mj asks.
"Uh nothing" he says looking up.
"Mhm, what is it?" She asks.
"Sorry, I was listening to somebody to love" he says and my heart drops into my stomach and Mj looks down at my phone that’s on my lap and I take my headphone out.
"That's not playing though" I say.
"I know, it's my soulmate" he says shrugging.
"She has the wildest taste in music I've ever heard. She listens to literally everything, one second it'll be Dear Evan Hansen and then The Bee Gees and then Stevie Wonder and she loves just one song by The Beach Boys called Forever, she literally listens to that like 17 times a day on repeat so she gets it out the way and then she'll put on Etta James. Also most of the songs she listens to are glee covers. It’s a rollercoaster because she’s always listening to music" he says chuckling and I exchange a quick glance with Mj because that's literally me and she smirks.
"Tell them about the Reba thing" Ned says and Peter laughs.
"I'm sure they don't ca-"
"Go head tell us" Mj says cutting him off and he nods.
"It's just for the past like 11 days she's been randomly singing and listening to the theme song to Reba and last night she sang it the most. Around like 6:15 she sang it for like an hour and a half back to back" he says and Mj laughs.
"How cute" she says.
"I guess, she has a super nice voice and she gives me new music to listen to. I got into Hamilton because of her" he says.
"Really? What song is she always singing?" Mj asks
"Take a break" he says.
"She loves to perfect the notes at the end" he says and Mj looks at me.
"You never talk about your soulmate Yn" Peter says sensing how quiet I am.
"I'm only 16, I turn 17 tomorrow so I'll know then" I say smiling at him and he nods.
"What are you doing?" He asks and I shrug.
"Probably nothing, my mom and dad are still gone and probably don't realize that it's my birthday" I say.
"Why didn't you tell me?" Mj asks.
"Because your birthday is on Saturday so you don't need to worry about me" I say drinking my juice.
"Yes I do, you're my best friend" she says.
"You can come with my parents and I on my birthday trip because it's too late for us to do anything for you so you can come and we'll handle the rest" she says pulling out her phone and getting up and I try to stop her but she's already on the phone and I sigh.
"Why didn't you tell her?" Peter asks.
"She has such a perfect family and my parents are always gone and I'm sure they don't even remember me. Whenever I go to her house I see this perfect family and I don't want to go to her with my shitty problems when she'd never understand anyway" I say.
"Can you be packed by four today?" She asks coming back before Peter can respond and I nod.
"Yeah of course" I say.
"Good, we'll skate to your house and then my parents are going to get us from there" she says.
"Thanks Mj but you didn’t have to" I say.
"I know but I want to, we've been friends since kindergarten and we've traveled before it's no problem, plus with you going my parents are trusting me with my own room so thanks for being responsible" she says wrapping her arms around me and I hug her back, kissing her head.
"No Hamilton though" she says.
"You invited me and all of my obsessions" I say.
"You like Hamilton?" Ned asks and Mj's eyes go wide and she mouth I’m sorry.
"Yeah, I'm obsessed" I say.
"What's your favorite song?" He asks.
"As a true fan you can't have just one. You have about 46" I say and I look at Mj and out the corner of my eye I see Ned and Peter exchange a look.
Midnight
"And I'm sure you would agree it couldn't fit more perfectly than to have a world party on the day you came to be. Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday to you" I hear and I look over at Mj but she's knocked out on the other bed and I smile, flailing around silently as I freak out and I pull out my phone and I go to Peter's messages.
You
Thank you 💕
Peter
Of course. Happy birthday 🎉
I click my phone off, the biggest smile in the world on my face as I curl up and go to sleep happy.
"What's going on with you?" Mj asks.
"You're all smiles" she adds and I smile at her.
"I'm so excited and I just can't hide it" I sing doing a little dance and she laughs.
"What happened?" She asks still giggling.
"It's Peter" I say.
"What's pet- oh-oh-oh oh my god you heard him?" She asks and I nod squealing.
"How do you know it's Peter?" She asks.
"Last night at midnight I just randomly started hearing happy birthday and I thought it was you, but you were out and snoring and so I texted him a thank you and he responded with of course" I say dancing on the bed and she laughs.
"Come down idiot, we need to get ready" she says and I jump off the bed running into the bathroom.

THE FORTY-FIVE: ST. VINCENT
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/55457a237fa92d4ea24c22d129d96317/7d45594767f0f5d9-b1/s540x810/01de82be28cedd0856e452ee091d0a808bc5264b.jpg)
Sleazy, gritty, grimy – these are the words used to describe the latest iteration of St. Vincent, Annie Clark’s alter ego. As she teases the release of her upcoming new album, ‘Daddy’s Home’, Eve Barlow finds out who’s wearing the trousers now.
Photos: Zackery Michael
Yellow may be the colour of gold, the hue of a perfect blonde or the shade of the sun, but when it’s too garish, yellow denotes the stain of sickness and the luridness of sleaze. On ‘Pay Your Way In Pain’ – the first single from St. Vincent’s forthcoming sixth album ‘Daddy’s Home’ – Annie Clark basks in the palette of cheap 1970s yellows; a dirty, salacious yellow that even the most prudish of individuals find difficult to avert their gaze from. It’s a yellow that recalls the smell of cigarettes on fingers, the tape across tomorrow’s crime scene or the dull ache of bad penetration.
The video for the single, which dropped last Thursday, features Clark in a blonde wig and suit, channeling a John Cassavetes anti-heroine (think Gena Rowlands in Gloria) and ‘Fame’-era Bowie. She twists in front of too-bright disco lights. She roughs up her voice. She sings about the price we pay for searching for acceptance while being outcast from society. “So I went to the park just to watch the little children/ The mothers saw my heels and they said I wasn’t welcome,” she coos, and you immediately recognise the scene of a free woman threatening the post-nuclear families aspiring to innocence. Clark is here to pervert them.
She laughs. “That’s how I feel!” From her studio in Los Angeles, she begins quoting lyrics from Jimi Hendrix’s ‘Red House’. “It’s a blues song for 2021.” LA is a city Clark reluctantly only half calls home, and one that is opposed to her vastly preferred New York. “I don’t feel any romantic attachment to Los Angeles,” she says of the place she coined the song ‘Los Ageless’ about on 2017’s ‘Masseduction’ (“The Los Ageless hang out by the bar/ Burn the pages of unwritten memoirs”).“The best that could be said of LA is, ‘Yeah it’s nice.’ And it is! LA is easy and pleasant. But if you were a person the last thing you’d want someone to say about you is: ‘She’s nice!’”
On ‘Daddy’s Home’, Clark writes about a past derelict New York; a place Los Angeles would suffocate in. “The idea of New York, the art that came out of it, and my living there,” she says. “I’ve not given up my card. I don’t feel in any way ready to renounce my New York citizenship. I bought an apartment so I didn’t have to.” Her down-and-out New York is one a true masochist would love, and it’s sleazy in excess. Sleaze is usually the thing men flaunt at a woman’s expense. In 2021, the proverbial Daddy in the title is Clark. But there’s also a literal Daddy. He came home in the winter of 2019.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/56700b3bdc15b366b67e989f7437b6d6/7d45594767f0f5d9-7e/s540x810/3260761e3e761f1d79c71d5130111893658b8fa1.jpg)
On the title track, Clark sings about “inmate 502”: her father. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison for his involvement in a $43m stock fraud scheme. He went away in May 2010. Clark reacted by writing her third breakthrough album ‘Strange Mercy’ in 2011; inspired not just by her father’s imprisonment but the effects it had on her life.“I mean it was rough stuff,” she says. “It was a fuck show. Absolutely terrible. Gut-wrenching. Like so many times in life, music saved me from all kinds of personal peril. I was angry. I was devastated. There’s a sort of dullness to incarceration where you don’t have any control. It’s like a thud at the basement of your being. So I wrote all about it,” she says.
Back then, she was aloof about meaning. In an interview we did that year, she called from a hotel rooftop in Phoenix and was fried from analytical questions. She excused her lack of desire to talk about ‘Strange Mercy’ as a means of protecting fans who could interpret it at will. Really she was protecting an audience closer to home. It’s clear now that the title track is about her father’s imprisonment (“Our father in exile/ For God only knows how many years”). Clark’s parents divorced when she was a child, and they have eight children in their mixed family, some of whom were very young when ‘Strange Mercy’ came out. She explains this discretion now as her method of sheltering them.
“I am protective of my family,” she says. “It didn’t feel safe to me. I disliked the fact that it was taken as malicious obfuscations. No.” Clark wanted to deal with the family drama in art but not in press. She managed to remain tight-lipped until she became the subject of a different intrusion. As St. Vincent’s star continued to rocket, Clark found herself in a relationship with British model Cara Delevingne from 2014 to 2016, and attracted celebrity tabloid attention. Details of her family’s past were exposed. The Daily Mail came knocking on her sister’s door in Texas, where Clark is from.
“Luckily I’m super tight with my family and the Daily Mail didn’t find anybody who was gonna sell me out,” she says. “They were looking for it. Clark girls are a fucking impenetrable force. We will cut a bitch.”

Four years later, Clark gets to own the narrative herself in the medium that’s most apt: music. “The story has evolved. I’ve evolved. People have grown up. I would rather be the one to tell my story,” she says, ruminating on the misfortune that this was robbed from her: a story that writes itself. “My father’s release from prison is a great starting point, right?” Between tours and whenever she could manage, Clark would go and visit him in prison and would be signing autographs in the visitation room for the inmates, who all followed her success with every album release, press clipping and late night TV spot. She joked to her sisters that she’d become the belle of the ball there. “I don’t have to make that up,” she says.
There’s an ease to Clark’s interview manner that hasn’t existed before. She seems ready not just to discuss her father’s story, but to own certain elements of herself. “Hell where can you run when the outlaw’s inside you,” she sings on the title track, alluding to her common traits with her father. “I’ve always had a relationship with my dad and a good one. We’re very similar,” she says. “The movies we like, the books, he liked fashion. He’s really funny, he’s a good time.” Her father’s release gave Clark and her brothers and sisters permission to joke. “The title, ‘Daddy’s Home’ makes me laugh. It sounds fucking pervy as hell. But it’s about a real father ten years later. I’m Daddy now!”

The question of who’s fathering who is a serious one, but it’s also not serious. Clark wears the idea of Daddy as a costume. She likes to play. She joins today’s Zoom in a pair of sunglasses wider than her face and a silk scarf framing her head. The sunglasses come off, and the scarf is a tool for distraction. She ties it above her forehead, attempts a neckerchief, eventually tosses it aside. Clark can only be earnest for so long before she seeks some mischief. She doesn’t like to stay in reality for extensive periods. “I like to create a world and then I get to live in it and be somebody new every two or three years,” she says. “Who wants to be themselves all the time?”
‘Daddy’s Home‘ began in New York at Electric Lady studios before COVID hit and was finished in her studio in LA. She worked on it with “my friend Jack” [Jack Antonoff, producer for Lana Del Rey, Lorde, Taylor Swift]. Antonoff and Clark worked on ‘Masseduction’ and found a winning formula, pushing Clark’s guitar-orientated electronic universe to its poppiest maximum, without compromising her idiosyncrasies. “We’re simpatico. He’s a dream,” she says. “He played the hell outta instruments on this record. He’s crushing it on drums, crushing it on Wurlitzer.” The pair let loose. They began with ‘The Holiday Party’, one of the warmest tracks Clark’s ever written. It’s as inviting as a winter fireplace, stoked by soulful horns, acoustic guitar and backing singers. “Every time they sang something I’d say, ‘Yeah but can you do it sleazier? Make your voice sound like you’ve been up for three days.” Clark speaks of an unspoken understanding with Antonoff as regards the vibe: “Familiar sounds. The opposite of my hands coming out of the speaker to choke you till you like it. This is not submission. Just inviting. I can tell a story in a different way.”
The entire record is familiar, giving the listener the satisfaction that they’ve heard the songs before but can’t quite place them. It’s a satisfying accompaniment to a pandemic that encouraged nostalgic listening. Clark was nostalgic too. She reverted to records she enjoyed with her father: Stevie Wonder’s catalogue from the 1970s (‘Songs In The Key Of Life’, ‘Innervisions’, ‘Talking Book’) and Steely Dan. “Not to be the dude at the record store but it’s specifically post-flower child idealism of the ’60s,” she explains. “It’s when it flipped into nihilism, which I much prefer. Pre disco, pre punk. That music is in me in a deep way. It’s in my ears.”

On ‘The Melting Of The Sun’ she has a delicious time creating a psychedelic Pink Floyd odyssey while exploring the path tread by her heroes Marilyn Monroe, Joni Mitchell, Joan Didion and Nina Simone. It’s a series of beautiful vignettes of brilliant women who were met with a hostile environment. Clark considers what they did to overcome that. “I’m thanking all these women for making it easier for me to do it. I hope I didn’t totally let them down.” Clark is often the only woman sharing a stage with rock luminaries such as Dave Grohl, Damon Albarn and David Byrne, and has appeared to have shattered a male-centric glass ceiling. She’s unsure she’s doing enough to redress the imbalance. “There are little things I can do and control,” she says of hiring women on her team. “God! Now I feel like I should do more. What should I do? It’s a big question. You know what I have seen a lot more from when I started to now? Girls playing guitar.”
If one woman reinvented the guitar in the past decade, it’s Clark. Behind her is a rack of them. The pandemic has taken her out of the wild in which she’s accustomed to tantalising audiences at night with her displays of riffing and heel-balancing. Instead, she’s chained to her desk. Her obsession with heels in the lyrics of ‘Daddy’s Home’ she reckons may be a reflection of her nights performing ‘Masseduction’ in thigh highs. “I made sure that nothing I wore was comfortable,” she recalls. “Everything was about stricture and structure and latex. I had to train all the time to make sure I could handle it.” Is she taking the heels off when live shows return? “Absofuckinglutely not.”
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/f41e367aa81adbcb43ecea316d92f919/7d45594767f0f5d9-82/s540x810/e9b6c930efcc6e6eb7790def5d23f7dbfcb3a935.jpg)
Clark is interested in the new generation. She’s recently tweeted about Arlo Parks and has become a big fan of Russian singer-songwriter Kate NV. “I’m obsessed with Russia,” she says. In a recent LA Times profile, she professed to a pandemic intellectual fixation on Stalin. “Yeah! I mean right now my computer is propped up on stuff. You are sitting on The Gulag Archipelago, The Best Short Stories Of Dostoyevsky andThe Plays Of Chekhov. I’m kinda in it.” The pop world interests Clark, too. She was credited with a co-write on Swift’s 2019 album ‘Lover’. At last year’s Grammys she performed a duet with Dua Lipa. It was one of the queerest performances the Grammys has ever aired. Clark interrupts.
“What about it seemed queer?!”
You know… The lip bite, for one!
“Wait. Did she bite her lip?”
No, you bit your lip.
“I did?!”
Everyone was talking about it. Come on, Annie.
“Serious? I…”
You both waltzed around each other with matching hairdos, making eyes…
“I have no memory of it.”
Frustrating as it may be in a world of too much information, Clark’s lack of willingness to overanalyse every creative decision she makes or participates in is something to treasure. “I want to be a writer who can write great songs,” she says. “I’m so glad I can play guitar and fuck around in the studio to my heart’s desire but it’s about what you can say. What’s a great song? What lyric is gonna rip your guts open. Just make great shit! That’s where I was with this record. That’s all I wanna do with my life.”
More than a decade into St. Vincent, Clark doesn’t reflect. She looks strictly forward. “I’m like a horse with blinders,” she says. She did make an exception to take stock lately when the phone rang. “I saw a +44 and that gets me excited,” she says. “Who could this be?” Well, who was it? “Paul McCartney,” she says, in disbelief. “Anything I’ve done, any mistake I’ve made, somehow it’s forgiven, assuaged. I did something right in my life if a fucking Beatle called me.”
Now there’s a get out of jail free card if ever she needed one.
Daddy’s Home by St. Vincent is out May 14, 2021.

An Apron is Just a Cape On Backwards (Not a Superhero).
Pairing: Stucky x Reader Word count: 6K. This is a whole beast. I hope that’s not too bad. Warnings: all the fluff!, some angst, smut!! (threesome, DP, fingering, attempt thigh riding.) ,some bad language, LOVE. And for the mad people who haven’t seen it yet: Endgame spoilers. Summary: Everything was lost, but then it wasn’t. Reader, Steve and Bucky have to make up for lost time. Soon they find it not as easy as they thought, especially because one of them didn’t actually lose anything. A/N: Some guy was annoying the shit out of me, trashing Steve and Bucky’s friendship, so I cheered myself up by writing a second part that literally no one asked for (also I might’ve written this only bc I’m obsessed with naming my fics weird shit). So this is part 2 of Missing Is a Recurring Theme! Hope you like it! (Also, I am a whore for artist!Steve.) **If anyone is interested, I actually have some spare time, so...Requests are open!
Gif is not mine.
“Hot Stuff Coming Through?” Y/n squinted to read the printed words on Bucky’s ridiculous apron, realization hitting her and she threw her head back, ringing laugh pleasantly filling the room, “when did you get this?”
Bucky was the only one standing in the kitchen. No sign of Steve. His growing hair was tied up on the top of his head in a failed bun, miserable strands of hair escaping it only to be coated with sweat and unidentified powders. Somehow, he managed to already severely stain the black apron and the breathable black t-shirt he wore underneath, spatula in one hand and a knife in the other.
“We got it yesterday,” he said innocent enough, flexing his impressive biceps in different poses, showing off his great new purchase. Y/n breathed, shaking her head, “Wait until you see Steve’s, and yours, of course! Which reminds me, get out of the kitchen!.” “You called me here!” She protested, hitting Bucky with the book she held; Oh, how she wished it wasn’t a paperback. “We’re working on a surprise for you, Darling. You have to keep your eyes closed, or at least stand with your back to us.” “Sure thing, Hot Stuff.” She chuckled, turning around just in time to face Steve going through the kitchen door, wearing a nearly identical apron, clear bag in his hand.
“I got the colors but I’m not sure we have enough blu-“ startled, he stopped talking when he saw her, just in time to hear Bucky’s loud demands he shuts the fuck up. “Colors? What are you two planning? It’s not even my birthday.” Steve gifted her with one of his loop side smiles, “I only said it to throw you off, sweetheart.”
He went around her and passed the plastic bag to the metal arm reaching for him in a sleek motion, pausing for a second above her head indecisively before kissing the top of it. Bucky’s heart nearly skipped a beat.
Y/n touched Steve’s shoulder as a response, brushing the bare spot the white fabric of his shirt didn’t cover, it was somehow quieter than before.
Bucky cleared his throat, “hypothetically speaking, if we wanted to bake a cake.” Y/n opened her mouth, but was cut when he continued, “hypothetically! Do we really need to add eggs? Back in the day only flour and water were enough.”
“OH MY GOD.” She groaned at Steve’s amused face,
“So…Is that a yes?” Bucky asked again, looking genuinely lost,
“I’m out of here!” Y/n almost sang, stressing the the last words. She left the room, unlocking her phone while imagining the horrors said room is going to go through.
She stepped back, pulling herself closer to the kitchen space, but never entering - only her head visible - “I sent you a link, there are thousands of recipes for cakes. Just choose one.”
They looked grateful, hands petting their pockets, already looking for their phones, “thank you, doll”
She nodded, almost leaving again; “you sure you don’t need help?” She asked on a second thought, blinking and bringing her arms to her sides,
“We’ll be okay,” Bucky said, “besides, this is supposed to be a surprise, c’mon, let us do something nice for you for once.”
She bit her bottom lip and sighed, “Ok, whatever you want.” She stepped out of the kitchen again, “Just, please don’t paint the kitchen with food coloring, it’s going to be a hell to clean up.”
“I told you, there would be no colors involved!” Steve yelled after her, followed by a not so subtle snort from Bucky.
“I thought superheroes weren’t supposed to lie!” Y/n fired back, making herself comfortable on the sofa, opening the book at the marked page. She heard Bucky laughing again, this time joined by his partner in crime,
“Well, good thing we’re not ones anymore!”
Domestic really suited them, she then thought, and happiness might make her explode.
-
“Stevie, this is…I’m at a loss of words. It’s amazing.” Bucky always did love to praise him, all the way back to the 20th century. He could feel him, soft man inside soft clothes, behind him. Breath warm and light on his neck, making the small hairs erect from the proximity.
“It’s not even finished yet, you really think she’s gonna like it?” Steve eyed his work, melting into Bucky’s touch as he wrapped solid arms around his waist, kissing his shoulder and humming into his skin.
“I know she will.”
Steve shifted his body, turning around to meet a beautiful pair of eyes, today more grey than blue; like ocean skies early in an April morning. It’s a little game he likes to play with himself - what did Bucky’s eye color resemble today? In all the years he played, he didn’t get the same answer twice.
“What?” The skies in his eyes chuckled along when Steve stared too long, the skin around Bucky’s eyes wrinkled, a pleasant reminder of how his life had changed, laughter so acquainted with his face it decided to leave a permanent mark.
“Nothin’.” Steve smiled at the thought, feeling the hands around his middle tightened, “I just love you.”
Bucky licked his lips, gaze falling quickly to a pink, delicious mouth he could never resist. Their breaths were heavy, warm, mixing in the small space between them until Steve reached for his hair, resting his elbows on Bucky’s broad shoulders as he found his bun, fingers digging into it, messing it up impossible more, strands of hair falling to frame his face.
“Steve,” Bucky swallowed, nose brushing against nose, so close to him, he spoke into Steve’s own lips.
“Yeah?” He breathed, teeth nibbling at Bucky’s bottom lip, beard grazing his smooth jaw,
“Kiss me.”
Their mouths connected, Steve’s hands still in Bucky’s hair, knotting and pulling harder, forcing him closer; Bucky gasped, head tilted right as he found a better access, his tongue moving slowly over Steve’s lips, sucking on the corner of his mouth. Steve panted Bucky’s name, releasing one of his hands from his hair and bringing it to cup his jaw; right hand pulling his chin up, allowing Steve to trace his tongue on the warmth of Bucky’s, pressing his teeth lightly into his lower lip.
They smelled like baking, with the faintest hint of sweat. Bucky’s pulp lips sugary to the taste, probably from all the bites he snuck into his mouth, ignoring Steve’s protests.
Metal hand soothed up and down his back, chilly material still unusual to the skin even through a t-shirt. Steve leaned his back against the counter, parting the kiss with a wet sound. Bucky smiled lazily, eyes hooded as he nuzzled his face into Steve’s neck, fluttering kisses into his most sensitive spots,
“God.” He signed, brushing lips against the sharp edge of Steve’s jawline, “I miss your beard.”
-
Screams from the kitchen was all she heard before she threw her book to the side, cursing everything in the world she had to abandon the last ten pages unread.
Muffled swearing, a terrified “Steve.”, a burnt small and when she entered the kitchen, grey smoke.
“What happened?” Y/n asked, catching her breath but still very much alarmed.
“Nothing!” One of them said in an unnaturally high squeak she couldn’t recognize. Steve cleared his throat, “nothing.” He said again, more composed, fanning furiously the smoking oven along with Bucky.
Once the loud beeping sound stopped - smell still strong and unpleasant in their noses, but the black screen died down - they faced her, the epitome of innocence with their boyish smiles, posture hunched as they fiddled with their hands, looking astonishingly alike.
“We’re sorry.” Steve said, eyebrows furrowed as he struggled to look up, “it’s m’fault. I was so busy paint- working on something else I got distracted-“
“No no, we both know it’s on me, I should’ve-“
“I’m gonna stop you right there.” Y/n said, arms crossed against her chest as she cut them both sharply, they could be so serious sometimes. “All you did was burn half the kitchen! Lighten up guys.” She continued before they had a chance to speak, “there are no faults, I’m not mad.” She smiled, as to convince them she was telling the truth.
Both men exhaled at the same time, relieved the mess they made wasn’t gonna get them in trouble. “I can’t be mad at you, c’mon.” Y/n said wholeheartedly, bringing her arms to the side and walking forward, nudging their shoulders as to cheer them up, “I’m just upset you worked all day for nothing.” She sighed, searching for their hands, she took Bucky’s metallic palm in her right, and Steve’s in her left.
“It’s not entirely for nothing.” Bucky motioned, cupping her face, calloused flesh holding delicate features. He smiled at her, then at Steve, standing inside their impromptu circle made of limbs- “Now,” a dopey grin smudge his red lips, looking proud of himself, “we can get pizza!”
-
“You seemed a little too keen on throwing out all the food you’ve worked on, don’t you think? And look at the road!”
Bucky chuckled, stirring his gaze from her to the black sedan in front of them, “I’d much rather look at you, sugar.” He teased in a sickeningly sweet voice, y/n rolled her eyes, pretending to puke. “No one is moving anyway.” He hit the wheel in frustration, she swore she heard it creaks, “and for your question, darl’,” Bucky looked at her again, “I am extremely,” he stressed, “bummed out it didn’t work. And I mean EXTREMELY. Besides, it wasn’t the main surprise, Steve’s still working on it at home.”
“Yeah, yeah,” she huffed, gently touching his jaw and guiding it to face forward; he opened his mouth, tilting his head down to try and bite her finger, he grazed it with his front teeth and kissed it. Her smile turned to a loud laugh as a very enthusiastic driver honked his horn off behind them, universal way of signaling someone to fucking drive. Bucky didn’t have to look to see the “I told you so” all over her face.
“Shut up.” He muttered under his breath,
She pursed her smiling lips, looking innocent as ever, “I didn’t say anything.”
-
They drove in silence, Bucky hummed to the beat of her fingers drumming on the window.
“Is something wrong?” He said suddenly, making y/n jolt herself up.
“Is there something that should be wrong?” She asked, confused by the unforeseen question,
He sighed heavily, “with you and Steve…I mean.”
Oh shit. “I don’t think so, no.” She swallowed, picking at her fingernails.
“I thought superheroes weren’t supposed to lie.” Damn them, both of them and their way of knowing exactly what she feels.
“I’m not a superhero.”
“You are to me.” He said quietly, both looking intensely at the road.
“I’m not lying,” she exhaled, bringing her abused nails to her lips, biting, “it’s just… Everything is good, you know? Great. I love you, I love you both more than ever.” She shifted in her sit again, visibly uncomfortable.
“We never talked about this.” Her voice was quiet now, barely above a whisper, “I mean really talked about this. When you were gone…it was hard to keep going like everything was normal, so we somehow adjusted to a new normal, our normal. And then you came back, which I’m grateful for, everyday.” She bit her bottom lip, bringing her legs closer to her lap.
“I wake up and I see you, I see him, and I want to cry. Cry because I never thought I would be this lucky again. But when you came back we had to discover the old normal again, remember it, face the damage our previous poor way of coping did to us. Five years is a long time, Buck.”
She was holding her breath, Bucky could tell, the way she was holding her thoughts up until now.
He often forgot. He hated the feeling of memories disintegrating from his grip, in small, unnoticeable bits that he worked so hard scraping together. Most of the things come back to him eventually, the good and the bad. But this was a different type of forgetting; this time he had nothing to remember.
Sometimes it just hit him, when he watched them. How everything so drastically changed when he was gone. He saw it in the dark circles around her eyes, never seemed to fade or to brightened, no matter how much time had gone or how well rested she was. Sometimes it was in the new crease on Steve’s forehead, a grounding reminder that they, too, can run out of time. Sometimes he saw it in their faints attempts to wake up early for morning runs, can’t keep up even when they do. Sometimes it was in the hesitation in Steve’s eyes, every time he came in contact with her skin, almost afraid she doesn’t want his touch anymore.
For Bucky there was nothing to remember, but for them- there was too much to forget.
And he hated it, blaming himself in true Bucky Barnes fashion. Like he had any say on the matter. Sometime, he thinks that if he had, he’d tell them to move on.
Bucky’s life were hard on him, cruel, even - but they also taught him that time was invaluable. Precious seconds and moments had to be clenched on to, not be wasted, not be overlooked; that’s how he knew they should’ve let go. Instead of latching onto the memory of him, distant fading version of the man he is in their minds, they could’ve started over, make their new normal a permanent one. They could’ve learned to love each other without him. They could’ve healed.
In a greedy, ugly pit inside the dark depths of his heart he was glad they didn’t, selfishness getting the best of him, thinking he might have killed himself if he woke up only to realize he doesn’t have anyone to wake up to.
Five years is a long time.
He gripped the wheel harder with two hands, nearly creating small valleys in the shape of his fingers, “He loves you.” He hushed, in a way that was almost intimate, like a secret.
“I know.”
“Sometimes I think he is going to break. He lost me so many times. Too many times in one lifetime. If he didn’t have you…He would’ve.”
“I would’ve, too.” Y/n whispered,
“I know.” He said softly, body loosen up as he spoke, “you kept each other together, you saved each other from falling apart. That’s love.”
She stayed quiet as Bucky found a parking spot, squeezing the car in a tight fit.
Her mind was roaming, she had a lot to think about.
“Let’s go?”
-
“God I missed this place.” Bucky beamed at the smell, his entire demeanor changes as they walked into the small pizzeria. Fresh dough was baking, a game was on on the beat up TV screen near the freezers, fluorescent lights planting small stars inside his eyes. Suddenly, y/n felt different, too.
They found their way between the tables, an old woman with a child were sitting to their right, a young couple to their left, some elderly men yelled at the television, heating up in a meaningless argument over the players.
They reached the cashier, first in line. His eyes looked tired, yet he treated them with a smile accompanied with a cheerful “what can I get ya?”,not letting the long shift get to him. “We’d like two large pizzas please, one with extra cheese…” Bucky’s voice faded as she dived deeper into her thoughts. His left hand was light on the small of her back, chilling the narrow strip of skin revealed when her t-shirt rode up.
Y/n looked around, tuning down the talking and the noise even more, only to catch a glimpse of a familiar face, now very less bearded, somehow younger looking. A small towel in a soft yellow hung from his shoulder, and the friendly smile that was always there didn’t disappoint, directed to her yet again. He nodded as their gazes crossed, an undisputed spark of recognition floating inside his eyes as he glanced quickly at Bucky.
The old man didn’t stay much longer, responding to the loud “dad!” calls from the back by returning quickly, not before he caught y/n nodding back, latching Bucky closer.
-
They drove in silence. Y/n trying to balance the square boxes on her lap as Bucky allowed himself to steal a slice, taking a bite every time they stopped at a red light.
“This is,” he announced with his mouth full, defying the quiet, “the best pizza ever!”
She chuckled, tightening her grip around the sides of the steaming carton, “save the declarations for Steve, I don’t really care for it either way.”
“You have to decide which side are you on!” Bucky said, finishing and swallowing his bite, looking at her, “playing both sides isn’t going to work any longer baby.”
“ROAD!” She grunted, momentarily losing her balance and falling forward, almost covering her entire sit with cheese and sauce.
“Y/n? You okay?” Bucky’s voice was concerned, and he was looking at her, again.
“I’m fine! Stop looking at me!” She moved, adjusting to a more comfortable position,
“C’mon now, you know I can drive us safely with my eyes closed.”
“I’m sure you can, you’ve had a lot of practice, too?” She scuffed,
“As a matter of fact,” he tensed, smiling sadly, “I have.”
They didn’t talk for the rest of the drive, and Bucky didn’t stir his eyes from the highway.
-
“Time for the surprise!.” Bucky announced after they sat down, eating wordlessly except from his occasional blissful moans, and Steve’s grumpy noises of disgust.
Y/n looked down at him, baffled. Her hands paused their continuant motion in the past twenty minutes. He sat between her legs, hard feelings long forgotten - placated by tender twining of fingers through his hair; chipped nails gently scratching his scalp and slowly descending to the top of his shoulders.
Steve looked up as well, tossing his pepperoni slice back to the box, willingly abandoned. “Sure. I’ll go get it.”
Y/n glanced at Steve, immediately bringing her gaze down to Bucky again, “C’mon, you really shouldn’t have.”
They both dismissed her, getting up and disappearing in the kitchen.
Y/n followed them with her gaze, despite her protests she was giddy with excitement, what it was didn’t matter - the thought of how hard they worked on it all day was enough to make her happy with whatever they made.
Blond head emerged from the room first, quicker than she thought, followed by Bucky- their hands bearing gifts;
Steve held three aprons, and what looked like a tray with a knife on it, laying next to something that was covered, she couldn’t see what it was.
Gently pushing the nearly empty pizza boxes, Steve placed the tray on the table, tossing each the matching clothes.
“Are we really gonna wear them?” Hers was different, printed colors all over it, and even in its folded state she had a vague idea what was on it.
“Open it!” Bucky clapped after he finished tying his behind his back. He was a little too enthusiastic. She caught a glimpse of Steve smiling conspicuously, can’t keep a straight face as she unfolded the apron, revealing a picture of a very detailed, hairy belly. Rolls that seemed like they were acquired by abusing the use of beer, and a pair of man boobs that horrifiedly were too similar to her own for her liking.
Both men howled with laughter, can’t contain themselves any longer when she put it on.
“Do you like it?” Bucky snickered, wiping tears from the corner of his eyes.
“You know what?” She raised an eyebrow, checking herself out, “It’s kinda growing on me.” How unbelievable it was that technically, those men were over a hundred years old.
“Good.” Steve tried to keep a straight face, failing miserably, “because you’re never, you’re never taking this off.”
“Oh, never? Not even for…?” Y/n bit her lips suggestively, looking at them as they looked at each other. She was just teasing, getting them riled up as a payback. She was trying to be funny, but their expressions weren’t as playful.
She stayed in her place, untying the ridiculous apron, unbuttoning her jeans and letting it fall down to her hips.
That was quick, she thought as they walked towards her in unison, trapping her between them and the couch.
Bucky pushed down the denim, letting her step out of it while he sat, parting his legs and pulling her down for a kiss.
Steve tangled his long fingers in her hair, smoothly pressing her against Bucky’s lips, deepening the kiss as she moaned into his mouth; Bucky groaned, hoisting her up on his lap, desperately seeking more friction. His metal arm clutched her waist with a force she knew was going to leave bruises, his other hand was holding her head in place, replacing Steve as he began to kiss her neck, sucking at the skin until it was red and angry. He smirked when she cried out, breaking the kiss only for Bucky to pull her back in. Steve licked at the ruptured blood vessels, soothing them with his tongue before he moved to a new patch of skin.
Y/n gripped Bucky’s shoulder, dire for even the slightest relief, grinding against his clothed crotch, using him to keep her balance. She was suddenly stopped when his arm held her hips steady, not allowing her to move.
“Uh, uh sweetheart,” She heard Steve rasping in her ear, biting at her earlobe, making her squirm under him, “you’re not getting off that easy.”
It was like they found their rhythm again, like buying a new record of old songs; they held her between them, undressing themselves and what’s left of her clothes, not even bothering to leave the couch.
Being so close to them was like a cure; nothing could touch her, nothing but them. She felt the weight of Steve’s lips on hers, tracing his soft tongue on her teeth, breathing lightly into her, opening her mouth for him. She didn’t need anything else.
Bucky found her right breast, bare and soft, with only the contrast of her hardening nipple reacting to his slow circles around it, only stopping to pinch her pink nub, rolling it between his fingers. He chuckled softly when her breath hitched, clinging to Steve’s naked chest and pushing her ass closer to Bucky’s cock.
She shifted on his lap, somehow; now facing Steve, mouth on his, and her back to Bucky, allowing him a better access to her sex.
Slowly, he lowered his hand, the cold of the metal meeting her heat, creating a contrasting sensation that made her whole body shiver with pleasure.
“Look at you,” he whispered in her ear, syncing the movements of both of his hands on her, “you’re so wet.”
Y/n hummed in response, hand shaping into a fist around Steve’s bicep when he caught her other breast, giving the same attention to it as Bucky.
“You’re so good for us doll.” He kissed the edge of her jaw, “Such a good girl, so wet for us.”
She groaned as Bucky slid a smooth finger inside her, slowly pumping it in and out, stretching her enough to insert a second finger between her folds.
“Faster, please.” She cried, mouth now free as Steve resumed working on marking her skin, sucking at her collarbone, allowing her to be as vocal as she wants.
“Steve, Bucky,” she bit her bottom lip, unable to divide her attention; Bucky moving faster inside her, thumb teasing her clit, and Steve squeezing her tits, bringing one of them to his mouth and scraping her sensitive nipple. It was all becoming too much.
Her hips buckled, breaths becoming more urgent as she moaned their names,
“Do you want to cum, darling?” Bucky asked from behind, not any less urgent than her, his cock becoming uncomfortably harder against his stomach and her ass by the second.
Y/n nodded furiously, swallowing a sob when a third digit entered her, “oh shit, I’m so close.”
Steve caressed her cheek, tracing the shape of her red lips with his thumb. She kissed it, taking it in her mouth fully, tongue spiraling its form and coating it with her saliva, hollowing her cheeks around it.
The heat rose to her face, knots tying up inside her stomach and going higher and higher, taking her closer to the edge.
“It’s okay, sweetheart. Come for us.”
She didn’t know who said it, too caught up in her own pleasure, but it was enough; The waves of her orgasm hit her all at once, she moaned loudly around Steve’s thumb, as Bucky didn’t stop, riding her high with her, fingers still being pushed in and out of her, milking her of her pleasure with sweet reassurance in her ears.
Bucky kissed her shoulder as she came down, still sensitive when he pulled his fingers from her heat. He growled when he saw how drenched they were, the metal collecting a good amount of her juices, “Fuck, baby.” Bucky smirked, both men fascinated by her reaction to them as if it was the first time, “I always miss your taste so much.”
He brought two wet fingers to his lips, relishing on her cum, moaning in pleasure for how sweet she is. Steve shuffled closer, bringing himself so close he was sharing Bucky’s lap with her.
He bit his lips, hungrily eyeing Bucky’s forefinger, untouched, still dripping with her.
Steve secured his hand around the metal wrist in a firm grip, waiting for Bucky to lick his fingers clean, and taking the third one into his mouth, sucking at it until there was nothing left.
Bucky swallowed, cock twitching at the sensation of Steve’s tongue on his body. The subtle reaction captured Steve’s attention, and he moved even more forward, squeezing y/n between them, her eyes hooded in a post orgasm bliss, renewed arousal starting to form in her core again when she felt the weight of Steve against her sensitive pussy.
“C’mere.” Steve motioned, voice deep from lust. Bucky swallowed again when he felt a tug at his hair, pulling him forward. Steve crushed his lips on his, the delicious flavor of y/n still on their tongue as they tasted it off each other, breathlessly exploring. Steve took a hold of Bucky’s thick shaft, stroking him from the base to the tip, removing the precum with his thumb and smearing it on y/n lips blindly, not breaking the kiss. She whimpered, eagerly licking it off.
Steve’s hips jolted involuntarily, forcing them to part, barely catching their breath.
“Fuck, Steve…Please.” Y/n moaned at the new friction, suddenly needy for more. He positioned himself farther, just in front of her entrance, teasing her with his tip, as Bucky parted her thighs, holding her in place.
She shifted, head shaking as she turned to Bucky. “I want both of you.”
His breath hitched in his throat, the clutch of his fingers tightening around her, “it’s been so long, baby. Are you sure you’re read-“
“Please? Bucky, Steve?” She was begging now, voice small, eyes pleading, the pink blush on her cheeks matched the scarlet color of her lips, reminding Bucky of a rose. The red tint casted a celestial shadow across her face, highlighting the splatter of freckles on her nose, her dilated pupils overpowering the color of her eyes. There’s so much self restraint a man can have.
“Okay.” He said hoarsely, barley able to control himself, “whatever you want, darling.”
She smiled, biting her lips to obscure it. She didn’t care it’s been years since they were both inside her. She wanted them. Needed them.
Bucky dipped his fingers inside her soaked core, coating himself in her fluids. She gasped when he pulled them out, slowly, his other hand was parting her asscheeks, searching for her entrance.
“Shh,” Bucky kissed her left shoulder, rubbing circles around the tight ring of muscles, using her own juices as a lubricant, “relax for me, baby.”
Y/n sighed, feeling Steve length on her folds, still not pushing inside her. He stroked her hair, leaving fluttering kisses on her neck, so different from the aggressive lovebites he previously left there.
She felt her muscles loosen around Bucky, slowly but surly opening her up for him.
“Buck.” She inhaled sharply as he managed to get a finger inside her. Steve was rubbing lazy circles on her clit, and she thought she’ll cum again, the familiar coil in her guts starting to form.
“Again already?” Bucky chuckled behind her, recognizing her rapid breaths and the clutching of her walls around him. He added a second finger, sliding inside her smoothly, “I guess we’ll have to pick up the pace.”
A couple of pumps later, and he pressed a third digit into her hole, it was a tighter fit, muscles resisting it at first, but he was persistent.
“So tight.” He exhaled, humming at the nape of her neck. Y/n opened her eyes, not realizing how hard she shut them, only to see Steve’s hungry look on them, devouring both of their naked forms.
She felt the fire igniting in the pit of her stomach, a softer pleasure washing her when she came, panting and hiding her face in the crook of Steve’s neck.
Steve chest vibrated with laugher, placing a hand on her back, “Are you okay?”
Y/n nodded, leaving the safety of his neck to look at him, words too difficult to form.
“We’re almost there,” Bucky reassured, gathering her newly found slick to coat his cock, pulling out his fingers. He moved himself to her entrance, stretching her painfully even with all his caution.
“Yes, just like that baby, you’re doing so good.” He praised her while caressing her arm, moving another inch deeper until his base hit her ass.
She let out a strangled gasp, shutting her eyes and correcting her breaths. Steve squeezed her palm, signaling her to open her eyes. She looked at him, already looking wrecked; “Are you sure, y/n? It’s okay if you-“
Y/n bit her bottom lip, smiling at him as sweetly as she could, “pretty please?”
The man huffed, letting out a low chuckle and placed himself against her dripping cunt, thrusting his hips into hers, gradually filling her up.
“Oh shit.”
It was always overwhelming at the first thrust. Being so full she forgot how empty she used to be. The stretch opening her up, reminding of something she hasn’t felt in five years. Right now, she might’ve felt complete.
She wasn’t ready, until now, having them both in the same level of intimacy like before. But this was so impromptu, so raw, so them; it was only natural for her to feel like herself again.
They stayed still inside her, giving her the time to adjust, already twitching, and she felt every inch of them against her damp walls, clenching around them, making it unbearable for them not to budge.
Y/n was the one to initiate. Recognizing how restless they grew, she rolled her hips, a whine escaping her lips just when Steve and Bucky moaned deeply, holding onto her.
She did it again, this time it stung less, her body getting accustomed to the presence of them inside,
“Y/n.” Bucky groaned, holding her hips in a steel grip.
“Yes?” She blinked at him, innocently.
“Stop that.”
“Why?”
“You’re hurting yourself.”
There was a pause, “I’m not, it’s okay.”
Steve and Bucky shared a look above her head, brief but meaningful. Steve pulled himself back slowly, stopping at the half of his length, only to pound into her again; she shut her eyes, her hands on Steve’s bare chest, feeling the flex of his muscles under it.
Bucky did the same thing- he drew himself out and pushed back in, knuckles tightening around her middle.
Beads of sweat formed in the valley of her breasts as they slammed harder each time, picking up a pace between themselves, moving in turns and then together, whispering words to sooth her pain.
Y/n was a mess under them, being so completely full, any discomfort long gone or replaced by pleasure.
“Guys,” she whimpered, “I’m close.”
Her eyes teared up, head shot back and met Bucky’s shoulder; she squirmed, able to taste her edge now. She couldn’t take it, her hips shifting involuntarily to the sides as they fucked into her.
They held her still again, nearly collapsing over her from how close they were, how good she took them.
She was the first one to come. Waves on waves of pleasure striking harder than before. She could taste her salty tears and hear herself screaming, nails clawing at anything she could find.
“Fuck!” Bucky grunted, hips thrusting into her repeatedly until he came inside her, leaning his head on her neck, holding her close for Steve to continue until he got his release.
“Shh, baby." Bucky whispered, “It’s okay, we’ve got you.” Steve rocked her body, crushing his hips into hers desperately, his eyebrows furrowed, cheeks rosy. He was close too.
She whined, clutching walls around him for the last time, not having any energy left in her to do anything else. Steve inhaled sharply, the tightness of her pushing him over the edge.
He spilled hot shots inside her, nearly collapsing on top of her in a tangle of sweaty bodies.
They stayed like this, not daring to move, still buried deep within each other.
“We forgot the cake.” Y/n laughed breathily.
“You weren’t supposed to know it’s a cake.” Bucky muttered, toying with a couple wet strands of her hair lazily.
“We kinda gave it up, Buck.” Steve admitted, “I’m pulling out, sweetheart.” He gave her a few seconds to prepare -say goodbye to the comforting warmth of the both of them surrounding her- lifting himself up using the arm of the sofa. In one slick motion he was no longer inside her, the sudden emptiness alien and unwanted. A mix of her juices dripped down her legs slowly, blending with the shots of cum Bucky left in her, too, as he mirrored Steve’s actions, removing himself from her hole.
It was awfully lonely all of a sudden.
“C’mon baby.” Bucky lifted her up as well, handling her as gently as he could, “let’s get you cleaned up.”
“No, no.” Y/n protested, “I wanna see the surprise.”
“It can wait for tomorrow.” Steve said, piling up the boxes on the table, cleaning up after them.
“You didn’t spend all day making it so I would see it tomorrow, show me.” She was stubborn, persistent, they knew too well it was a losing battle once she sat her mind to something. And she was already set on the couch again. They exchanged looks, sighing and sitting down to her sides.
“It’s not much.” Steve said, suddenly feeling self conscious about his work.
“It’s amazing,” Bucky reassured, knowing Steve isn’t going to uncover it himself so he did it instead, peeling the cover off to reveal it.
Y/n gasped, drinking in the work of art in front of her; It was a rectangle shaped chocolate cake, completed with white frosting evenly spread on top.
There was a painting drawn into the cream, light strokes of brush that only one person could create, a beautiful mess of blue and red, like watercolors fighting to create harmony between them. It was them, it took her a while to find sense in the chaos, but eventually she recognized three figures, fitting into one.
Beautiful.
“Steve.” She breathed, “we’re never eating this.”
“We’re not sure how edible it is, anyway.” Steve laughed in relief, embracing her and kissing her temple.
“We are.” Bucky all but jumped on them, wrapping his arms around the two in an awkward yet loving hug, their laughs ringing together in a gracious melody, “It’s not.“

You Make My Dreams
Pairing: Steve Rogers x Barista!Reader
Summary: It’s funny how simple changes, often the ones given little to no thought, could change the course of a person’s life. Change leads to new dreams.
Warnings: Cursing, slight abuse mentioned in passing, and Steve getting injured ofc, and probably way too many gifs, but hey it’s a lot of text.
Word Count: 5194
A/N: Written for @tilltheendwilliwrite ’s 6K challenge. Congrats again, babe! Song Prompt: You Make My Dreams by Daryl Hall and John Oates . Lyrics italicized and indented.
It’s funny how simple changes, often the ones given little to no thought, could change the course of a person’s life. Take Steve Rogers, for example. Steve was out for his morning run per usual, taking one of his three established routes in the city. Tony would have said being predictable was a security disaster in the making, but Steve paid him no mind, he was Captain-freakin’-America and could take out any threat.
Aside from that, Steve normally ran the trails around the compound; he was only in the city this week because he and Bucky wanted to hang out away from the compound. Steve still had his apartment in the city, that was where he spent his days off, away from his mantle as the Captain as he roamed the city and sketched.
When it came to his quiet time away from the Avenging life, Steve liked his routines, predictable though they may have been. Other than the persistent fans he dodged on his runs, there wasn’t anything he couldn’t handle.
This particular day, however, there was something waiting for Steve that he couldn’t fix with his fighting skills - a roadblock and detour sign. Normally when Steve encountered road construction, it was only the road itself that was blocked off, the fenced sidewalks were still free to walk.
But oh no, not today, no siree. Today everything was blocked off. His usual path was obstructed, his run was ruined. Had it been mentioned that Steve had a flair for the dramatics?
Sighing and turning in slow circles, Steve pulls up a mental map of the surrounding streets, and chose a new route that would eventually merge with his familiar path. A little miffed at this new change, Steve started jogging, cataloging the new surroundings as he passed them by.
Unfortunately for him, he miscalculated the distance and was growing thirsty by the time he reached a quaint park, the halfway mark towards his destination. Panting slightly as he looked around, Steve saw a little trailer parked on the sidewalk at the edge of the park, the hand-scripted sign broadcasting it as ‘Just the Sip,’ whatever that meant. He felt like it was an innuendo for something.
The scent of a savory brew was wafting from there, it seemed like the best bet for his parched throat; if he was lucky they would also have bottled water.
Walking up to the window of the little trailer, he could hear muffled cursing and banging, there was no one visible in the space.
“Hello?” He tentatively called out a greeting, unsure of what he was even doing. He should’ve just kept running, hydration be damned.
“Oh! Hi!” A woman popped up suddenly, nearly making Steve reach reflexively for a shield that wasn’t there. The woman’s hair was a mess, strands falling from her messy bun and cascading down her face, her apron askew and a smudge of something on her cheek. “Sorry about that, one of the machines was giving me a bit of trouble. How can I help you?”
Steve merely blinked.
“Captain Rogers, are you alright?”
The sound of his name seemed to reboot his brain.
He cleared his throat before responding with a sheepish smile, “Yes, I’m fine. And you can call me Steve.”
The woman smiled brightly, eyes crinkling at the edges. “Well Steve, I’m Y/N, and it’s a pleasure to meet you. What brings you here around these parts?”
Now that Steve knew the woman’s - your - name, he figured he should probably be a proper gentleman and stop being a speechless idiot.
“Well Y/N, I gotta tell ya, I really don’t know what happened with my morning. A roadblock, a miscalculation, and some dehydration led me to this place.”
Steve looked around the park, smiling as he took notice of the quaint charm of the surrounding area.
“Can’t say I’m too mad about it, not when I discovered a little pocket place like this one. Seems a little…”
Steve trailed off, unsure of a description that would fit how he was feeling about this place.
You huffed a breath to clear some strands of hair from your face, leaning on your elbows as you looked out at the park with a soft smile.
“Yeah, I know what you mean. Seem a little out of place, out of time - like we’ve stumbled into a secret garden in a pocket universe.”
Steve looked at you in awe and chuckled, amazed that you described exactly how this place made him feel. “You’re sure somethin’, you know that Y/N?”
You clapped your hands together and stood up, “Yep, so I’ve been told! Now, you mentioned some dehydration? Can’t have Captain America keeling over like an old man, now can we? What can I get ya?”
Your taunting and playful smirk surprised Steve. He was used to people treating him as someone untouchable, someone you shouldn’t speak to, much less poke fun at. You treated him like an old friend despite just meeting him, and he had to say that the change of pace was nice, it made him feel normal.
“I am an old man, but far from keeling over. I didn’t bring my bifocals to read the menu, what would you recommend?’
You laughed and looked at him dryly, “Oh Steve, we’re gonna have to work on your old man sense of humor, it’s atrocious. Now, what’re you looking for? I’ve got coffee, specialty drinks, tea, bubble tea, cold brews, juice, soda, and plain ol’ water.”
“Wow, big selection. I don’t really have time to stay and properly taste any drink, I’ve got plans with my best friend. How about just water this time, and next time you can recommend me a drink to sit and enjoy?”
“Ah, I do appreciate a star spangled man with a plan," you sing-songed the old tune. "Bottled water, comin’ right up, Cap.”
Your playful wink and reference to his ‘dancing monkey’ days had him grumbling as he fumbled for a few dollars to pay.
You turned back to him and held out the water bottle saying, “Eh, don’t worry about it, water’s just a dollar. Consider it a gift for letting me poke fun at you.”
Steve smiled gratefully, grabbing the water from your outstretched hand.
“Thanks for the water. Have a drink recommendation ready, I’ll be seeing you soon Y/N,” Steve did a lazy two-finger salute and jogged off with a smile.
You shook your head and chuckled, who knew Captain America was such a laid-back dork? No, not the Captain - Steve Rogers. Two different personalities, one a stoic no-nonsense hero, the other a charming goofball from Brooklyn.
Sighing and rolling up your sleeves, you dove back in to fix the machine that was previously giving you trouble. Humming while working, your thoughts lingered on a certain bright smile. You really did hope that he would come back like he promised.
* * *
For the rest of his run Steve’s thoughts lingered on your sweet smile and teasing laugh, the way your nose would scrunch up, and how the laugh lines around your eyes would appear when you squinted in laughter.
Oh boy, he was definitely in trouble if you were already taking over his thoughts after only one encounter.
He finished his run and returned to his and Bucky’s apartment, hopping in for a quick shower before Bucky came back from the market. He got out and got dressed, dark jeans and a grey crew-neck muscle shirt, opting to remain barefoot until it was time to leave.
He made himself a cup of coffee, slowly nursing it as he picked up his book, and continued reading from where he last left off.
Keys jingled, the doorknob to the apartment ratted, and Bucky was suddenly through the door with an armful of grocery bags.
“Hey punk, mind closing the door for me? I’m gonna put the food away.”
Steve acquiesced, dog-earing the current page in his book. After closing and locking the door, he went to help his friend put away the alarming amount of groceries.
“You know we’re only here for another day or so, right? This is a bit excessive, even for us.”
Bucky sent a nonplussed look towards Steve. “With as much running as you’ll likely be doing, I figured you could use the fuel. Now who’s the dame?”
Steve should probably be surprised, but nothing got past Bucky. “How did you even…? Nevermind. Her name is Y/N. She owns a little coffee trailer at some neighborhood park. She’s feisty, I think you’d like her.”
Bucky shook his head and smiled knowingly. They continued putting away the groceries, Steve all the while picking at the fruit and stuffing his mouth as he continued talking about his encounter with the pretty barista.
Perishables put away, they worked in tandem to cook up brunch, finally sitting down at the island with their coffee and fruit-adorned french toast. They ate in silence, Steve reading his book, and Bucky reading the day’s newspaper.
After a moment of silence there was a hesitant, “Hey Buck, what does ‘Just the Sip’ mean?”
Bucky choked on his drink of coffee, nearly spewing it across the island. He coughed and pounded on his chest, settling into a hearty laugh now that his airways were clear.
“Oh my god. Is that the name of her business? I love her already, Stevie you have my permission to marry her.”
Steve blushed - this did not bode well.
“So…. you gonna keep laughing, or are ya going to tell me what it means?”
Bucky smiled and shook his head, “Nah punk, I’m gonna keep laughing. As a matter of fact, I’ve gotta meet this girl. Forget the plans, we’re going to that park and having a nice cup of coffee while I get to know her.”
Steve cursed under his breath - this definitely did not bode well.
* * *
“‘Just the Sip,’ huh? Figured you’d leave the explaining to me?”
You were sitting at one of the little tables outside your coffee trailer, reading your book and sipping at a chai latte. At the sound of the familiar voice, you abandoned your book and sprung up from your chair with a smile.
“James! Where’ve you been, I haven’t seen you in ages!”
You jumped into Bucky’s embrace, laughing as he hugged you tight and swung you around.
He set you down and chided, “Doll, I told you to call me Bucky. Why do you insist on being a pain in my ass?”
“Because everyone treats you like glass, and someone’s gotta keep you on your toes. Besides, I like pissing you off; it’s fun.” Your sass didn’t go unappreciated by the super soldier.
“Wait you know each other?”
Oops, busted. You turn towards a glum-looking Steve, wiggling your fingers at him in a wave.
“Back so soon, Captain? I have that drink recommendation if you’re ready for it,” your knowing smile is telling.
“Okay but - ”
“I’ll explain over your drinks. The usual, James?”
“Yes please darlin’.”
“Have a seat boys, I’ll be right out with them!”
They sat down and Steve gave his best friend an incredulous, wounded look. “Are you two, y’know...?”
“Don’t be stupid, Stevie,” Bucky’s teasing tone turned serious with his next words. “When uh, after I came back from Wakanda, I was still a little broken, ya know. My life consisted of you, and, after Thanos, Sam. You two were the only ones I had, but I still felt off, like everyone was treatin’ me with kid gloves, even you. Sam was the only one who didn’t take any of my shit, and it made me feel… normal.”
“Bucky, ya could’ve told me - ”
“No, it’s okay Stevie, you were stretched too thin, I know you were trying your best. One day when you were on a mission, Sam brought me to the city and we went a few places, explored a little bit. We even went to the V.A. for a bit. But even there, I felt like I didn’t belong. I told Sam I needed some alone time, and he understood. He was actually the one that told me about this place. He said there was somethin’ about it that just made the weight of the world seem like a lighter load, and he was right. I found my way here and was sitting for a while, until people started stopping and staring. They were whispering things, but y’know we can hear everything with the serum…”
You suddenly were at the table with their drinks, and you set them down, placing a soothing hand on Bucky’s arm. Steve noticed you were touching his left arm, and he marveled at the fact that Bucky didn’t so much as flinch. He instead was looking up at you and smiling softly.
“They were assholes, they had no right.” Your voice was fierce with protectiveness, and Steve was happy knowing that Bucky had good friends outside of the compound, even if he was a little miffed that he had never even known about it.
“Yeah, Y/N was here that day, and she marched out of her trailer, sleeves rolled up and hair a mess like always.” You smacked Bucky upside the head and he laughed before continuing, “She started yelling at them, saying they should be ashamed of themselves for treating a national hero like that. It was the first time I had been called a hero, and it hit me hard. Everyone sees me as the Winter Soldier, only remembering the crimes I committed, but not Y/N. After the people had scuttled off, she came to sit next to me and brought me a drink, just started talking like we were old friends.”
You were sitting between them now, nursing your own drink, as you listened to Bucky talk.
“You are a hero.” You turned to Steve and continued the story as Bucky sat back and drank down his bubble tea.
“He was having trouble adjusting, and he came to me for escape.” You shrugged and said this as if it was no big deal. “I treated him like any normal person should be treated, and we became fast friends. Soon enough everyone around here saw that he was harmless, and this became his safe haven.”
Bucky side-eyed you. “Well, I wouldn’t say harmless.”
Your eyes widened and you turned to Steve excitedly. “Oh shit yeah, I forgot! There was this one regular, well he’s not anymore, but he became a bit aggressive in his advances. One time James was here when the guy decided to get a little fresh, and let’s just say that the guy no longer comes within five miles of here.”
Bucky smirked at Steve’s expression.
The conversation between you three flowed from there, and you would occasionally excuse yourself to help a customer, always coming back with different drinks for them too. Steve was convinced that he had tried at least half the menu in that one afternoon. He was suddenly grateful for his super soldier bladder.
The day wore on and you eventually packed up shop, locking everything down. Steve had intended on bidding you a good night after that, but you and Bucky had given him a strange look and laughed.
“C’mon Steve, dinner at Antoine’s is a tradition when James comes to visit me.”
Upon arriving at the little sandwich shop, the owner greeted you warmly and started preparing food for you and the boys.
Steve was a little apprehensive as you guided him to a table and sat without even ordering.
“Um, Y/N, we didn’t order. How does he know what to make?”
You and Bucky explained at the same time that Tony was always right when it came to food.
Steve remained skeptical until the food came, and after that he completely agreed with the both of you, the food was amazing.
* * *
Over the next two and a half years, Bucky and Steve had become staples in your life, the three of you forming a routine that you settled into with ease.
Sometimes Steve would come by himself, and would stay for days on end, becoming even more smitten with you by the hour. Sometimes Bucky would come by himself when Steve was away on mission, and he would take your mind off worrying about his best friend’s safety.
A lot of times, both of them came together and the three of you would spend hours or even days hanging out at your apartment when you weren’t working.
* * *
One night, you were woken up at some cursed hour by a persistent knocking at your door. You cautiously opened it to reveal Bucky holding up a bleeding, unconscious Steve. Now wide awake, you ushered them in and directed Bucky to the guest room.
“What happened?” You whispered in a hushed, anxious tone.
Bucky gingerly laid Steve on the bed and lowered himself into the plush chair beside the bed.
“Stealth mission gone wrong. Don’t worry, I already patched him up, he just needs to rest up and let the serum do its work now. Sorry about this, but I couldn’t keep my eyes open any longer, and your place was closer than the compound. Quinjet is on the roof, by the way.”
Bucky’s voice trailed off as he succumbed to sleep.
You shook your head at your the two idiots, and went to the closet to retrieve their duffle bags. They had spent the night often, so they had eventually just brought duffle bags with clothes and toiletries to leave there. Likewise, you had a similar duffle bag stashed at their place.
Fishing out their sleep clothes from the bags, you quietly crept over to where Bucky was snoring away. Trying not to wake him, you started pulling his numerous knives from their sheathes, setting them on the nightstand. You had successfully removed most of them, and wow he must have been exhausted if he hadn’t snapped awake by now.
As you were removing the last knife, your wrists were pinned in a painful position as Bucky shot up reflexively.
You hissed in pain, “James, it’s just me, can you please let me go?”
Bucky’s glazed eyes suddenly cleared, and he apologized profusely as he released your wrists and checked them with gentle fingers. “Doll, I’ve told you before not to do that. It’s dangerous. Are you alright?”
“Yeah, I’m okay. I’m sorry, I was just trying to make you more comfortable. Now that you’re up though, can you change Steve into the sleep clothes I left there? Your own clothes are beside his, come get me when you’re both decent.”
You padded into the kitchen and busied yourself with making a cup of tea. If you didn’t keep occupied, you’d fall asleep where you stood. Halfway through your tea, Bucky stumbled through the bedroom door in his pajamas and whispered, “Okay, all decent now.”
“Good. You can take my bed, I’ll stay with Steve and keep an eye on him.”
“Doll, no, I can’t let you do that. He’ll be fine, and I can sleep on the couch.”
You eyed your four foot couch and then sent the beefy super soldier a pointed glance.
“Yeah yeah, okay, you’ve made your point. But seriously, Y/N, he’ll be fine.”
“You know how I worry, James. I’ll just set an alarm for every two hours to check on him, and sleep on the chair.”
“Y/N, no I can’t le- ”
Your tone allowed no arguments, “James. I’ll be fine. I’ve done it before for your dumb ass, now it’s Steve’s turn to endure my mother hen nature. Go to my bed and sleep. You’re exhausted, and I don’t have the strength to pick you up from the floor if you pass out. I’ll be fine on the chair, you know I’ve fallen asleep there before when you came to me injured.”
Bucky relented and grumbled his way to your room, and you finished your tea until you heard Bucky’s snores.
Stumbling your way to the guest room, you checked on Steve’s breathing and his healing wounds. Setting the timer on your phone to two hours, you curled up on the chair with a blanket and sank into a restless sleep.
Despite the soft melody of your timer, you jolted you awake from your fitful slumber, standing up and stretching your aching body. You must have shifted into an awkward position to end up this sore.
You checked Steve’s breathing, his temperature, and changed the bandage on his seeping wounds, before turning back to the chair. You body ached even more just looking at it. Your last fuck flew out the door as you turned back to the bed and Steve, eyeing the ample room on the comfortable mattress. Yep, that’ll do nicely.
Steve was passed out, and your body was rejecting the thought of the chair, so you sank into the mattress with a pleased sigh. Despite Steve’s large frame, the bed was big, and you had more than enough room to lay down. Setting the timer for another two hours, you pulled the blanket over yourself and immediately fell asleep.
The timer went off, and this time it took you a little longer to wake up, because you were more relaxed. Getting up and repeating the process of checking on Steve, you blearily hit a button on your phone and fell asleep once more. Unfortunately, the button you thought you hit was meaningless, and the timer was left unset.
~ Several Hours Later ~
Steve was sure he had died and gone to heaven. The last thing he remembered, once again being reckless and self-sacrificing, was being stabbed multiple times, blacking out, then being dragged onto the Quinjet by a cursing Bucky. So when he awoke to the sight and bliss of you curled up next to him? Yeah, no need convincing him that this was heaven and not real life. He smiled and pulled your sleeping form closer, burying his nose in your hair as he held you gently.
A few minutes passed of this blissful cuddling, and then the door swung open open.
“Hey punk, good to see you’re still alive and - oh…” Bucky’s voice penetrated the silence, bursting Steve’s heavenly bubble, and startling you awake.
“‘M awake, ‘m awake. Mmm nooo ‘m not. Too warm ‘n comfy. Wake me when there’s breakf-” Your sleepy mumbling trailed off as you snuggled closer to a blushing Steve.
“Shaddup, asshole,” Steve whispered at a grinning Bucky as he settled in closer to you.
“Thought you’d died and gone to heaven when you woke up with her?” Bucky’s teasing hushed tone and sparkling eyes had Steve blushing once more.
Steve’s muttered ‘yes’ was telling in itself - he was utterly and irrevocably in love with you, and you had no idea.
* * *
What I've got's full stock of thoughts and dreams that scatter
You pull them all together
And how, I can't explain
The melody in his head seemed to dance itself into a physical manifestation, warm and bright as it weaved its way into the air around him, transforming the drab cityscape into an explosion of color.
Everywhere he went, the song followed him, seeming to saturate the very molecules around him. After that night when you had kept watch over him and he had awoken to you next to him, Steve just fell a little harder for you with each passing day. Sometimes he thought you returned the sentiment, but other times you seemed oblivious.
Bucky, and even Sam, called you both clueless idiots. Steve decided that today was the day he would finally ask you out on a proper date. Instead of going on his usual run, he dressed nicely in black fitted jeans and his favorite cobalt button-up, slapping on some cologne as he headed out to the park where your coffee trailer was set up.
~ Meanwhile ~
“Hey asshole!” You took aim with your rubber band gun and pull the trigger, pumping your fist in victory as the douche yelped at the sudden sting on the back of his neck. “What the -”
Some cries for help had brought you out of your coffee trailer, wielding your rubber band gun for good measure, and you had seen a large man grab a woman by the wrist, his sweet talk turning aggressive. Everyone else in the park had scurried away and hadn’t bothered to help, and that pissed you off.
“Leave her alone, she’s made it clear that your attention is unwanted.” The woman looked towards you gratefully, her still-fearful eyes going between you and the man that was gripping her arm.
“Oh yeah? And what the hell’re you gonna do about it?” The stupid meathead looked smug as he said this, as if he thought you, the sweet-looking barista, couldn’t take him.
You smirked and rolled up your sleeves, stalking towards them with a wicked glint in your eye. “You wanna find out, tough guy?”
You voice was taunting and steely, your sweet face morphing into an expression of anger with a cheshire grin. Your gait, for lack of a better description, resembled the Winter Soldier’s Murder Strut™. Your harmless appearance suddenly turned very intimidating.
“Whoa lady, take it easy, I was only -” The guy released the woman’s arm, raising his own hands in an ‘I don’t want any trouble’ gesture.
“Leave,” you spat out and glared until the guy turned and stuffed his hands in his pocket, looking embarrassed as he power-walked away.
Your dominating posture relaxed, and your gentle demeanor returned as you gently guided the woman to sit at a table, getting her some tea as you tried to calm her down.
She shakily thanked you and sipped at her tea, you waved her dollars away when she tried to pay, as you gently took her phone and called the contact that was labeled ‘sister.’ The sister was frantic as you recounted the story, and assured you she’d come get the poor woman, all the while thanking you profusely for stopping the man.
Not five minutes later of you consoling the poor woman, Steve came walking up with his hands in his pocket, his sunny grin suddenly faltering as he noticed the shaken woman next to you.
“Excuse me miss, are you alright?” Steve’s gentle voice had the woman looking up, tears escaping her eyes again as she looked past him to a woman calling her name. She ran to the other woman, her sister you presumed, and the two hugged tightly. You smiled gently when they both walked back over to thank you again.
Once they left, Steve looked at you in bewilderment, eyebrows raised, silently asking ‘what the hell was that?’
You sighed and held up a finger, gesturing for him to sit, as you made your signature drink for the both of you. Of all the drinks you had made Steve try, your spiced apple pie latte had remained his favorite.
A few minutes later and you were sitting next to Steve, telling him the story of what had just happened. His eyebrows were drawn deeply together, a frown marring his handsome face, and he let out several small subconscious growls as you told him of the vile man.
Steve must’ve been very angry because the next thing you knew, the lid to his cup had popped off, hot liquid splashing over the both of you. Your shock gave way to amusement, then to loud laughter as Steve’s face took on a sheepish expression.
“Sorry Y/N, I -” Steve’s grimace deepened as the hot drink soaked through his jeans.
“Dude, you were really so angry that you gripped the cup too tight? Oh sweet baby bagels, I’ve never seen coffee literally explode from anger!” Laughter overtook you once more at Steve’s glum face.
After he cleaned up the mess and you made him another drink, Steve had started to laugh at himself. “Yeah, I guess that wasn’t my finest moment. I was kind of… imagining it was the guy’s neck. What kind of animal would assault a la-”
You put a gentle hand on his arm, bringing him out of what was sure to be an irate, but righteous, rant on modern scumbags. “It’s okay, Steve, I took care of it.”
He suddenly laughed, “I would have loved to see you put him in his place! What were you gonna do to him, anyway?”
“Eh, I dunno, they usually scamper off before it gets that far. Just the sight of an angry woman, rolling up her sleeves and stalking towards them, is enough to send them running.” You wave flippantly at his obvious concern. You had been taught self defense from a young age, you certainly knew how to handle yourself if it had come to a fight.
Steve’s eyes twinkled in amusement, a brief flash of sadness passing through the blue depths - you reminded him so much of Peggy. She would’ve liked you, he thought, sweet and compassionate but feisty and not afraid to fight for those less capable.
“While I’m not happy you put yourself in danger, I’m glad you were there to help that woman. I can’t believe everyone else just ignored what was going on.
“I don’t like bullies,” you said with a sweet smirk, a mischievous look in your eyes as you stood and straightened your apron.
You make my dreams come true
“Hey, Y/N?” Steve stood up with you and decided it was finally time to let you know how he felt.
“Yeah, Rogers?” You looked at him sweetly with a crooked smile.
“I, uh…” No, no, nope, he couldn’t do this. “I’m really glad you’re my friend.”
You internally rolled your eyes - this man was indeed the leading authority on waiting too long.
“You’re an idiot.” You grabbed his face and pulled it level with your own, kissing him soundly before you could lose your nerve.
“Mph!” Steve was caught by surprise but soon melted into the kiss, wrapping one arm around your waist to pull you closer, the other winding its way into your soft hair.
You both pulled apart, eyes closed and foreheads touching, relishing in this long-awaited moment.
“Yeah, yep, that was… wow. That was a comprehensive message, received loud and clear.”
Your bright laugh brought a smile to his face. “About damn time, Rogers. Now let me text Bucky and Sam, I wanna know who won the bet.”
“Bet? What bet?!” Steve trailed after you, grumbling that he was going to kill his two meddling best friends.
* * *
Life continued, your business grew, your relationship with Steve progressed, and everything was good. Even Bucky and Sam finally found happiness with feisty dames of their own.
Family, stability… the guy who wanted that went into the ice over 75 years ago, and someone else came out. That dream of the simple life was dead, but that was okay, because Steve Rogers had a new dream.
Life with you wasn’t simple - the world was messy and definitely unstable, you were unpredictable and kept him on his toes, but you were the ray of sunshine peeking through the dark clouds of his every-changing life, and Steve wouldn’t have it any other way.
For those of you interested, here’s the (vague) Apple Pie Latte recipe!
Apple pie chai blend tea with apples and gingerbread spice, mix that with a good amount of milk, espresso, some honey, and voila!

Blog post # 1 Examining Youth Culture
As a child, I remember older adults, either family or friends, reminiscing on their childhood and would always say how different it was growing up in their time. Whether it be the childhood games they played, being bullied in school or experiencing their first kiss. The adults would always reflect on how times have changed for the youth. Today, I find myself in the same position. Now, I am the adult, the mother, big sister, who can’t help but recognize the enormous change in the culture of the youth. From the music they listen to, the clothes they wear and the influences that surround them. I can only imagine what my children’s children will experience in their childhood.
Television was one of the major influences for me growing up. Shows like Family Matters, Martin, Saved by The Bell and Fresh Prince of Belair, portrayed a more delicate picture of life but also with a message, most of the time a positive one. Great shows in my opinion. However, growing up in New York City, a lot of those positive messages pushed by what many called the “idiot box” was quickly erased by what was my reality. Drugs, gangs and violence was normal in my neighborhood. Though as a youth, I would say we all had some type of guidance that kept us in line. Some of us made some mistakes and managed to make it out while other may not have been so lucky. In School, I wouldn’t compare the students there to the characters in Saved by The Bell. Most of us were from rough neighborhoods where peer pressure was always high. Honestly, Zach Morris wouldn’t survive in my environment. Things just weren’t as easy as the show made it seem. I will say the show gave us a choice and many of the episodes did provide a message that gave me some type of guidance growing up. On the flip side, the gangsters and drug dealers did the same. Many whom knew my family well would even tell my parents if I was doing wrong or skipping school. I still love watching old episodes of Saved by The Bell and I believe the youth of today would enjoy it as well, but I can’t say it would be something they can relate to in their world today. I believe Euphoria is a show that they would definitely relate to more than the shows I watched growing up. The culture for the youth today, I feel, is rawer and more unapologetic rather than discreet and protected as things were during my childhood. Not only that, the influence for them is everywhere and I mean everywhere. From television, cell phones and social media, music, advertisements, friends and family, many influences are exposed to the youth. This is why Euphoria is a great show for their culture. Sex and drugs are way more popular to the youth nowadays. Instead of just regular marijuana, its pills, lean and K2 that are classified as fun drugs. Zendaya’s character Rue is a prime example of what is normal in their culture today. Rehab doesn’t even appear to be embarrassing to her as much as it is to her family. Many of her friends are consumed with the pressures of fitting in mixed with many other social distractions amongst their families. Jacob Elordi’s character Nate is faced with the internal conflict of his father, who is sexually active with both young girls and boys, leading to mental strains within himself and with his girlfriend Sydney, played by Cassie Howard. Barbie Ferreira’s character Kat at first is ashamed for being a virgin as well as her weight but ultimately folds to the pressure of her peers resulting her using the internet to sell sex fetishes to older men. Similar to todays only fans page, which the youth of today are using to exploit themselves for money. It has become a major fad during the pandemic. Sex is more open to the youth today as well. The LGBTQI community has much more support in todays culture than in the past which is another subject highly projected to the youth in Euphoria and Hightown, another show which depicts Monica Raymund’s character Jackie as the wild alcoholic lesbian, attempting to solve a murder while battling her own demons of drug use. The movie Kids, which I believe was the first movie I saw that could be compared to the explicitness of today’s shows, was the first movie that exposed me to the real reality without filter. Though I was aware of this growing up, no movie or television show really showed what it really was like for the youth growing up. The movie, the 90’s, was another movie similar to Kids, though it was released twenty-three years later, focused on the conflict of identity. Sunny Suljic’s character Stevie was only thirteen years old being exposed to sex and drugs. Encouraged by his friends Fuckshit and Fourth Grade, to name a few, though not the best role models, cared about little Stevie a.k.a. sunburn in a funny way. This was shown at the end of the movie after Stevie’s near-death accident. I was able to relate to this because I too had friends growing up that weren’t the best ones to hang out with, but I knew they genuinely cared. Some of them I consider family. The Breakfast Club came out when I was a baby so I couldn’t really relate to how the culture of youth was during those times, but I did enjoy the movie. Judd Nelson’s character, John Bender, was the wild card of the group. On the outside he plays the tough guy role but in reality, he too has problems at home. After watching the movie, I assumed most of the characters did not have the best relationship with their parents, which was probably something the youth had problems with at the time.
In conclusion, youth culture has changed dramatically through the years. Today’s world has so much more influence, forcing us to focus more on everything we do. COVID-19 hasn’t made it any easier either. The internet has become the primary platform for everything whether it’s good or bad. It is a part of the youth now and will always be in the years to come. One can only hope it influences them in more positive than negative ways?

~~~
“Tony, I can’t today.” Happy stood in Tony’s workshop, his arms crossed.
“Why, what do you have better to do? Sitting alone? Watching Downton Abbey reruns?” Tony scoffed.
“Actually I have a date. And I don’t believe in being fashionably late.” Happy dropped and turned on his heel, leaving the workshop.
“Oh, wow, great. I’m better at dramatic exits than you!” Tony shouted at the closed doors. “FRIDAY, be a dear and relay that to Happy.”
“On it, Boss.”
“So how was the date? What did you get up to?” Tony inquired, immediately after he saw Happy entering the workshop.
“We met, we ate, we talked.”
“And after?” Tony made an encouraging gesture, Happy leveled him with a stare.
“I said goodbye and went home.”
“So nothing, you know-”
Happy shot him a deadly glare and interrupted him, “Just stop, now. Why did you call me here?”
“Well…”
“For God’s sake, you can’t just do this to ask me about a date! I have an actual job here and it isn’t answering to all of your whims!” Happy exclaimed, throwing his arms up.
“Hey, I am your boss!” “
Pepper is my boss!”
~~~
“Happy.” Tony entered Happy’s office.
“No. Leave.”
“Tough luck, it’s my building.” Tony plopped down on a chair in front of Happy and clapped his hands. “Look, I’m just interested. Like a friend.”
“Tony, you aren’t interested, you’re nosy.”
Happy moved a stack of papers on his desk.
“A minute after I tell you her name, you are going to stalk her through FRIDAY.” While Happy talked, Tony grabbed some pen and started dismantling it.
“But look, it’s actually useful, what if she’s hiding something, what if it’s some kind of ruse to-“
“Tony, she’s a nurse, she’s raising a nerdy nephew, your fan by the way, lives in a small apartment and loves thai, what’s the worst thing that she can hide?” Happy snatched the pen out of the genius’s hands and put it in a drawer.
“Looks are deceiving. But, seriously-“ Tony leaned across the desk-”nurse? Like se-“
“Like saving lives kind of nurse.” At this point Happy started pondering if Tony just wanted to be punched in the face.
“And nephew? Wow, I didn’t peg you as a family kind of guy. So, he’s probably dying to meet me? Maybe we can arrange something… How about-“ Actually Tony wanted to be strangled, Happy thought. This would make interesting headlines. Tony Stark, killed by his Head of Security. Pepper would probably give him a good lawyer. Actually half of the SI legal department would volunteer to defend him in court.
“How about never from now? You know, never meet your heroes, I don’t want him to be disappointed, he thinks very highly of you.” Happy took a deep, calming breath.
“I’m affronted. Blocked and reported. Delete my number. I’m leaving.” Tony theatrically opened the door, stepped out and closed them.
“Fucking finally…”
~~~
“Pepper, my lovely fiancée!” Tony, covered in machine oil, grinned at her.
“What did you do, Tony?”
“Nothing!” Tony exclaimed, affronted. “Why would you think that I did anything?” Pepper just glared at him in response.
“Actually, I wanted to ask you something, like, maybe you could, you know, as a boss, ask Happy-“
“Who is he dating?”
“You know that he’s dating?!” Tony cried out, which resulted in Pepper wincing at the sound.
“Tony, everybody knows.”
“I didn’t, he told me yesterday.” Tony swung his hand in wide motion, knocking the screwdrivers off the table.
“Well, maybe you should reflect on that. And no-“ Pepper lifted her hands gesturing at Tony to not speak “-I’m not going to use my position to get from him any private information.”
“But, Pep, what if he’s dating some spy? Someone after company secrets?” Tony ran his oil covered hand through his hair, leaving a greasy trail.
“Tony, that’s so improbable, I’m not even going to comment on that. But you-“ she pointed her finger at him, “-are going to take a shower and go to bed.”
“I’m busy!”
“Take a break. For sleep. Like a normal person. Now.”
~~~
“Anthony Edward Stark!” Pepper's very angry voice carried through the workshop. “If you are thinking about following Happy in your suit, getting FRIDAY to follow him, or spying on Happy’s date in any other way, you better stop now, or I’m going to make you regret it.” Her voice was absolutely calm, the kind of calm that brought only doom.
“Uhh, Pep, but I’m just going to test a new feature on a suit.” Tony in Iron Man armor appeared.
“And why is that new feature a stealth mode?”
“You know, it might be useful for missions,” the genius said, assuming his most innocent face.
“Oh, missions. So every time, when Steve asked you to create a stealth mode, you replied ‘If I didn’t want to be seen, I wouldn’t have made the suit red and gold.’ But now, when Happy’s dating and doesn’t want to tell you who, stealth mode became a priority?”
“Well, I just had some time, so I thought I would do something to please our dear Stevie.” Tony spread his arms. Pepper, hearing his words, moved to a forgotten desk in the corner and started flipping through the stack of papers.
“Oh, I see. And this paperwork?”
“Uhhh…” Pepper Potts. The only person ever that can make Tony Stark feel at the loss of his words.
“I expect this to be done by tomorrow. You can test the stealth mode then.”
“But Pep, it’s so much!”
“Well, if you did paperwork regularly you wouldn’t have that problem now.”
“Tomorrow, honey.” she sent him a vindictive smile. Tony replied with a groan and started reading through the first page.
“What? That’s from half a year ago!” he looked in the direction of Pepper, but she had already left.
~~~
“Hey Happy, Tony's still being annoying?” Rhodey greeted the man at the airport.
“He keeps bugging me with questions about my girlfriend.”
“Yeah, he mentioned,” Rhodey laughed. “Like every time we talk. He wants me to interrogate you.”
“Seriously?” They both got to the car and into it. “It doesn't surprise me, though. He asked to do so pretty much everyone.”
“Huh, he really doesn't take well not knowing everything.”
“Yeah, anyway, wanna see photos?”
~~~
“Honeybear! How’s DC treating you?” Tony approached the man and patted him on the back.
“Let’s just say that I’m glad to be here.”
“So did you talk with Happy?”
“We spent an hour in the car, of course I talked with him.”
“And?” Tony prompted.
“And what?”
“Do you know anything about his girlfriend?”
“Tony, we talked about traffic and weather-“ Rhodey raised his arms in a defensive gesture- ”we don’t talk about personal lives!” Tony squinted his eyes at him. “Somehow, I don’t believe you.”“Well, you don't have to.”
~~~
“Nat, Natasha.” The ex-assassin was lounging in the living room, reading a book and eating oreos.
“No.”
“But you don’t even-“
“You want me to stalk Happy, to find out about his girlfriend,” Natasha said, her voice leveled. “The answer is no.”
“Okay, but what if she’s a spy?”
“No.” A knife appeared in Natasha’s grip.
~~~
“Rogers, I want to ask you for a favor.” Tony ambushed Steve, while the blonde man was making a protein smoothie.
“Sure, Tony, what do you want me to do?”
“So Happy’s dating and we don’t know who.”
“Uhuh.”
“And he doesn’t want to tell who is he dating.”
“Well, it’s his personal life, I’m not sure, what do you want me to do.”
“The problem is, we don’t know if she’s, for example, a Hydra spy.”
“Hmm, I can see that not knowing the identity of that woman might pose some problems. What’s your idea?”
“If you could-“
“Stark, are you still trying to stalk Hogan?” Bucky chuckled, entering the kitchen.
“Tony pointed out a possible security threat, we should take that seriously.”
“Stark for about a month is trying to convince various people to spy on Happy, after Pepper had forbidden him from doing it himself.” Bucky opened a fridge, took out cheese and butter, then started making a sandwich.
“Happy actually knows not to share any sensitive information and with your nosiness, he’s not going to bring his girlfriend to the Tower, like ever.” He took the finished sandwich and slung his other arm around Steve’s shoulders. “Come on, Steve, I have some plans for the evening.” He pulled the blonde into a kiss.
Tony mimicked gagging noises and said with disgust, “Get a room, you two.”
~~~
“Clint, I need you for a mission.”
“Mhphmm?” Clint let something ineligible out of his mouth. He had a can of coke, two bowls, a spoon, bag of skittles, an empty glass and ice cream balanced in his hands. He held a bag of Doritos in his teeth.
“Actually, what the hell are you doing?” Clint, who somehow managed to also balance Doritos in his hands, replied, “I’m getting snacks, there’s The Bachelor marathon on TV.”
“Riiight,” Tony nodded, dragging the word.
“What mission?”
“You're a spy, pretty good,” Tony started.
“Uhuh, yeah?”
“So look, Happy-“
“Oh, no, no, no. If he doesn’t want you to meet his family, that’s his decision.”
“Bu-“ Clint made an aborted gesture that threatened construction he built to collapse. Tony’s eyes widened as he caught it and helped stacking it again.
“Look, commercials are for sure over, gotta go.” Archer sped off to his room, not turning back.
~~~
“Hey, Hap! Finally, wanna tell me about your girlfriend?” Tony picked his phone up cheerfully, but the response made his blood run cold.
“Fuck, Tony, fuck, we need medevac here, now, he’s bleeding out, fuck!” He could distinguish in the background some woman's voice, crying and pleading. He told FRIDAY to track Happy and send medevac, then addressed Happy, “FRIDAY just sent one, what’s going on, who’s bleeding out, do I need to get the suit?”
“Peter, he’s enhanced!”
“Who’s Peter?”
“My nephew!”
“Your what?!” Tony asked incredulously. Happy, a man who hated children, said that he has a nephew. Said nephew was enhanced and actively bleeding out. There were definitely a lot of issues to unpack. Better not through the phone and definitely not while someone is dying. “Okay, nevermind, medevac is two minutes out, med bay being prepped, we’ll meet there.”
~~~
When he entered the med bay he saw a gurney with a scrawny kid dressed in red and blue being pushed into the OR by yelling medical personnel. Happy and a woman were left behind.
“Happy!” Tony called him. The pair turned to him and the sight of them turned him breathless. Both barefoot and dressed in pajamas. Happy had red rimmed eyes and tear tracks on his face. The woman looked much worse, her face was blotchy and red, covered in tears and snot, her body shook with sobs. But what made him stop in his tracks was blood. The front of their clothes were covered in scarlet splotches, crusting red on their arms. Tony’s mind quickly supplied how much blood the kid had lost and it didn’t help. Kid was like what? Image of a red and blue clad figure flashed between his eyes. Maybe 12, maybe older, but young looking. An enhanced teenager, dressed in red and blue. The realization hit him like a train.
“He's Spider-Man? Ho-how is that even…” Spider-Man was a 12 year old, apparently Happy’s nephew. Spider-Man that Tony wanted to find, for like a year, but there was always some more pressing matter.
“Did you know? Did you know, Tony?” Happy asked with emphasis, his tone of voice edging at anger.
“No, I’ve never looked for Spider-Man’s identity” Tony swallowed. He should have. If he had looked, they wouldn’t be in that situation right now. A kid important to Happy, bleeding out, dying. “I’m really sorry, Hap. I should’ve-” Happy rubbed his face with his palms, leaving some blood on it.
“Don’t. It’s my fault. I didn’t tell you anything about him or May-” he put a hand on the woman’s shoulder- “I also spent every Saturday teaching him self-defense and didn’t notice. Jesus.” He let out a humourless laugh. A quip about the effectiveness of those teachings was at the tip of Tony’s tongue, but he swallowed it.
“Don’t blame yourself, there’s no point.” After a second of silence, he said, “Okay, If you want to use shower, it's there.” He pointed with his hand. “It’s going to be some time before we get the news, but Dr. Helen Cho is the best of the best. I’ll bring you clean clothes.”
“Thank you Mister Stark,” Happy’s girlfriend (partner?) said hoarsely.
“Call me Tony. And it’s no problem, Ms…”
“Parker. But you can call me May.”
“It’s nice to finally meet you May, I wish the circumstances were better.” Tony nodded his head towards her and went to collect the clothes.
I wear T-shirts that are also covered in paint, and Crocs. – Caio Fonseca • My wildest tipping point moment came when I was introduced to Clint Eastwood. He was sitting there, typical Clint Eastwood, wearing a white T-shirt and jeans, holding a Budweiser. He looks at me and says, “I watch your show from time to time.” I just stopped. She had been asked about them so often that in the end she had started a blacklist of banned words to which everyone could refer. Every time someone thought of a new one, she unflinchingly wrote it down… Rose read through the list, and turned back to her letter. These are the words I learned to spell in Mummy’s art class today, she wrote, and sighed a little as she began the tedious job of copying from the board. – Hilary McKay • On the morning in question, she wore white shorts and a pink T-shirt that featured a green dragon breathing a fire of orange glitter. I should think about the whole performance.” That’s when I put the 1 in my name and started dressing for the occasion. – Le1f • Only Jace, Clary thought, could look cool in pajama bottoms and an old T-shirt, but he pulled it off, probably through sheer force of will. -pg. 329- – Cassandra Clare • Piper rushed to get dressed. The amount of times you read reviews of bands and it’s an all-girl four-piece, and they talk about what the women are wearing… you’ll never read a review that’s like: “Male singer Thom Yorke, who was dressed in a white t-shirt and jeans…” You would never read that about a man. – Lauren Mayberry • Rae burned me. Tonight, he wore a pink tank top and Lycra leggings[…]They were pink and aqua, like the swirls down the side of Jason’s truck. – Charlaine Harris • The paparazzi were outside the theatre every single night, but we came up with a cunning ruse. I would wear the same outfit every time – a different T-shirt underneath, but I’d wear the same jacket and zip it up so they couldn’t see what I was wearing underneath, and the same hat. So they could take pictures for six months, but it would look like the same day, so they became unpublishable. Which was hilarious, because there’s nothing better than seeing paparazzi getting really frustrated. – Daniel Radcliffe • The photoshoot glitz and TV studio make-up isn’t the real me. I mean, he still dressed in black T-shirts and jeans and was very kind of ’60s. And he began to realize the seriousness of it. And he knew how to strategize. And he had a very keen political sense, but he didn’t want to be like the old communist leaders. – Judy Woodruff • Very quietly, I heard a voice in my ear.It said, in a weird, cheesy, right-out-of-one-of-my-mother’s-novels way, “Ah. A lot of contemporary churches today would feel more at home in a movie house rather than in a house of prayer, more afraid of holy living than of sinning, know more about money than magnifying Christ in our bodies. It is so compromised that holiness and living a sin-free life is heresy to the modern church. The modern church is, quite simply, just the world with a Christian T-shirt on! – Nicky Cruz • We want to keep extending our brand into different places, into movies and soundtracks and our music will live on through licensing and our brand lives on through merchandise and new generations will get to wear our clothing and our T-shirts and stuff that’s associated with us. – Nikki Sixx • We’re the ones causing global warming. Most of the people they meet are Nepali villagers in Lee jeans, Reeboks, and Madonna T-shirts who are looking for the paradise that they associate with Los Angeles – a paradise of material prosperity and abundance. – Pico Iyer • When our mothers are alive and healthy, they do extraordinary things… like the mothers of Plaza de Mayo, who marched in Argentinean plazas, defying the military junta dictatorship and demanding the whereabouts of their abducted children… or the Liberian mothers who faced down civil war armed only with T-shirts and courage. – Liya Kebede • Whenever I go to Germany I find that my readers have T-shirts with my book covers printed on them. He smoothed her long hair down the back of her T-shirt, feeling its softness. In a few moments she fell asleep again, her breathing warm and regular against his chest. The only thing that mattered was that he was lying in a bed holding Willow, their bare legs entwined. It was all he wanted to do for the rest of his life. – L.A. Weatherly • With the first kid, you micromanage it, making sure there’s no hair out of place when it goes off to school. But by the third kid, it’s more like, “Oh, you want to wear a splatter-painted, Hard Rock Café T-shirt for seven days in a row and not brush your hair? Go for it. Be who you want to be.” – Annie E. Clark • Women show off their personality and character through accessories more than with low-cut shirts and skirts with huge slits. – Sarah Lafleur • Worldwide, most people dress more casually these days, don’t they? They have done for the last 20 or 30 years, I suppose. So, every place that I go to, the majority of people really wear jeans, trainers, T-shirt – everybody seems to dress more for comfort. Whereas, even in my lifetime, even up to the early-’70s, there was still that thing of dressing up. – Paul Weller • You can be the chicest thing in the world in a T-shirt and jeans – it’s up to you. – Karl Lagerfeld • You can’t fix stupid, but you can numb it was a 2 by 4.–T-SHIRT • You can’t take life for granted. • A clothing company is making T-shirts inspired by Bernie Sanders with messages like ‘Feel the Bern.’ They were gonna make them for Lincoln Chafee too, but no one wants to wear a shirt that says ‘Feel the Chafee.’ – Jimmy Fallon • Alice was scrutinizing my boring jeans-and-a-T-shirt outfit in a way that made me self-conscious. Probably plotting another makeover. I sighed. My indifferent attitude to fashion was a constant thorn in her side. If I’d allow it, she’d love to dress me everyday―perhaps several times a day―like some oversized three-dimensional paper doll. – Stephenie Meyer • All fashion brands are about looking good. Being Human is also about doing good. And you can do good by the simple act of slipping into a t-shirt or a pair of jeans. – Salman Khan • All of my life, actually, I had a real strong relationship with God, but I was always in the closet about it. The only distance out of the closet I really want to come there is having my tattoo or wearing my t-shirt. – Sinead O’Connor • All true wisdom is found on T-shirts. – Abraham Lincoln • And of course there is nothing better than wearing the same T-shirt for days and not brushing my hair for weeks. – Daria Werbowy • And, the sets that they built are just so beautiful. It’s like going to a completely foreign country and experiencing a new culture that you’ve never seen before, especially at Camelot. It’s just so magical. Personally, it’s just so much more interesting than wearing jeans and a t-shirt, and walking around somebody else’s house. – Tamsin Egerton • Anormal day looks like, you know, shower, put on the same jeans, the same tattered Gucci loafers I got at the thrift store, white socks, and my t-shirt and my very beat-up Helmut Lang blazer. Im in the exact same outfit every day. – Natasha Lyonne • Antarctica, one of the things that was so remarkable about it was that the ice itself is a kind of pure geometry, so say, for example, if I was facing someone wearing I don’t know, a Joy Division t-shirt with the mountains on it or something like that. – DJ Spooky • At home, a T-shirt and something loose like harem pants would do. If I’m stepping out, a pair of blue jeans and a white tee are just fine. – Genelia D’Souza • At the beginning of my career I was going through a really weird phase of dressing in boys clothes. Conversely, they can be incredibly handsome in jeans combined with a cashmere jumper or a beaten-up leather jacket or even just a cotton T-shirt. – Tamara Mellon • Modernized by tin roofs and T-shirts, Third World poverty is no longer picturesque. – Mason Cooley • Most nights I end up wearing a wife beater T-shirt and boxers. – Jessica Alba • My dad has totally taken my Cat Stevens T-shirt, but it’s OK; I have his Black Flag one, and that’s amazing. – Zoe Kravitz • My daughter made me a Jerry Springer-watching kit, with crackers, Cheez Whiz, polyester stretch pants and a T-shirt with two fat women fighting over a skinny guy. – Roseanne Barr • My label is just “good farming”, which isn’t something you can put on a t-shirt. – Wendell Berry • My style during the day is very casual – boyfriend jeans, T-shirts, Converse, Uggs, whatever. At night, I love heels and thigh-highs, I like something fresh and new, and I’m not afraid to push the envelope. – Katie Cassidy • My style when I was 17 was very low-key with jeans, T-shirts, and Converse. I was signed to a major record label by then, so I had stylists helping me. – Michelle Branch • My uniform is sweatpants, so crusted over with dried paint that they’re as hard as a table. I wear T-shirts that are also covered in paint, and Crocs. – Caio Fonseca • My wildest tipping point moment came when I was introduced to Clint Eastwood. He was sitting there, typical Clint Eastwood, wearing a white T-shirt and jeans, holding a Budweiser. He looks at me and says, “I watch your show from time to time.” I just stopped. I was like, “I can’t even think about that. I’m not even sure if I’m happy about that.” – Chris Harrison • NASA has to approve whatever we wear, so there are clothes to choose from, like space shorts – we wear those a lot – and NASA T-shirts. – Sally Ride • Never knock on death’s door. You know that? They’re fantastic! My boobs are amazing. – Sarah Dessen • Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you’re wrong. -T-Shirt – Darynda Jones • Oh my God, you’re serious. Honey, I am a six time Women’s Champion, if you get into the ring with me it will not be for a Lingerie Pillow Fight, it will not be to shoot t-shirts. If you get into the ring with me I will end your career just like that. Are you sure that’s what you want? – Trish Stratus • Oh yeah, the heartbreak diet…. Been there, done that, bought the T-shirt. – Alexandra Potter • On a daily basis, jeans and t-shirt is still sexy, but it doesn’t look like you’re trying too hard. – Tila Tequila • On the board was a list of words and phrases which her mother considered not suitable for use in college T-shirt design. She had been asked about them so often that in the end she had started a blacklist of banned words to which everyone could refer. Every time someone thought of a new one, she unflinchingly wrote it down… Rose read through the list, and turned back to her letter. These are the words I learned to spell in Mummy’s art class today, she wrote, and sighed a little as she began the tedious job of copying from the board. – Hilary McKay • On the morning in question, she wore white shorts and a pink T-shirt that featured a green dragon breathing a fire of orange glitter. It is difficult to explain how awesome I found this T-shirt at the time. – John Green • One of my favorite facts about Jason [Benjamin] is that he collects shirts from tattoo parlors. He has a bunch of tattoo parlor T-shirts, but no tattoos. And then he wears, like, vans and jeans. My boyfriend said he looks like a modern Bruce Springsteen, which is a pretty high compliment. – Lena Dunham • One of the coolest things to me about going to a show is you look over, and the guy next to you is sitting there drinking a beer and he’s wearing a Donkeys t-shirt. And you’re like, “Dude, I love The Donkeys.” – Craig Finn • One time, the homie Venus[-X] read me; we were on the phone and she was like, “Girl, you keep wearing jeans and t-shirts at your shows, but the music doesn’t give that.” I was like, “You’re right, I need to be the person that I am at school, making dance and choreography. I should think about the whole performance.” That’s when I put the 1 in my name and started dressing for the occasion. – Le1f • Only Jace, Clary thought, could look cool in pajama bottoms and an old T-shirt, but he pulled it off, probably through sheer force of will. -pg. 329- – Cassandra Clare • Piper rushed to get dressed. By the time she got up on deck, the others had already gathered—all hastily dressed except for Coach Hedge, who had pulled the night watch. Frank’s Vancouver Winter Olympics shirt was inside out. Percy wore pajama pants and a bronze breastplate, which was an interesting fashion statement. Hazel’s hair was all blown to one side as though she’d walked through a cyclone; and Leo had accidentally set himself on fire. His T-shirt was in charred tatters. His arms were smoking. – Rick Riordan • Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev can no longer attend concerts by his favorite group Deep Purple without having to fear that the musicians will wear T-shirts with Pussy Riot written on them. – Alexei Navalny • ‘Princess’ is a good word, as is ‘girlish’, ‘pixie-like’ and all these other things. I personally find it a bit boring, it’s all been done before. The amount of times you read reviews of bands and it’s an all-girl four-piece, and they talk about what the women are wearing… you’ll never read a review that’s like: “Male singer Thom Yorke, who was dressed in a white t-shirt and jeans…” You would never read that about a man. – Lauren Mayberry • Rae burned me. She has matches or something. Look, look…” Tori pulled down the collar of her T-shirt. “Leave your cloths on, Tori,” Simon said, raising his hands to his eyes. “Please. – Kelley Armstrong • Rowdy, hopped-up college kids pass us in an endless, noisy blur like they’re being mass produced or squeezed out of a tube – guys skulking in their T-shirts and cargo shorts, girls in low-slung jeans and flip-flops, pimples and breasts and tattoos and lipstick and legs and bra straps, and cigarettes; a colorful, sexy melange. I feel old and tired and I just want to be them again, want to be young and stupid, filled with angst and attitude and unbridled lust. Can I have a do-over, please? And of course there is nothing better than wearing the same T-shirt for days and not brushing my hair for weeks. – Daria Werbowy • Sejal had not thought of her home, or of India as a whole, as cool. She was dimly aware, however, of a white Westerner habit of wearing other cultures like T-shirts—the sticker bindis on club kids, sindoor in the hair of an unmarried pop star, Hindi characters inked carelessly on tight tank tops and pale flesh. She knew Americans liked to flash a little Indian or Japanese or African. They were always looking for a little pepper to put in their dish. – Adam Rex • Shirt collars are very important to me. Putting a very soft shirt collar with a formal suit doesn’t work for me at all. – Ozwald Boateng • Shrugging out of the damaged shirt, Jake said roughly, “I still dream about you.” “I have nightmares about you.” I dragged my T-shirt over my head, threw it aside. – Josh Lanyon • So how was Christmas for you guys? I’m looking down, and I’m like, ‘T-shirt and stretchy pants? Yup, that’s fine. It’s pajama-y, good night.’ – Rebecca Romijn • Speaking of stage freight. I was terrified! It was in NOLA at an all ages show. I was wearing Jeans, a Van Halen t-shirt, and a bandana on my neck. Once I gripped that microphone stand, I did not let go! I plugged my microphone into a guitar FX pedal. Then at the end of the a Black Sabbath song we were covering, I hit the guitar pedal. It was horrific! – Phil Anselmo • Start your own revolution, cut out the middleman In a perfect world we’d all sing in tune But this is reality so give me some room So join the struggle while you may The Revolution is just a t-shirt away – Billy Bragg • Tailored jackets with jeans is a great look for all ages. Dress up with a heel and pretty shirt, or just wear a smart T-shirt under the jacket. – Twiggy • The Army, as usual, are without pay; and a great part of the soldiery without shirts; and though the patience of them is equally threadbare, the States seem perfectly indifferent to their cries. – George Washington • The average age in the U.S. is now thirty-three, whereas Mexico gets younger and younger, retreats deeper and deeper into adolescence. Mexico is fifteen. Mexico is wearing a Hard Rock Cafe T-shirt and wandering around Tijuana looking for a job, for a date, for something to put on her face to take care of the acne. – Richard Rodriguez • The Beatles exist apart from my Self. I am not really Beatle George. Beatle George is like a suit or shirt that I once wore on occasion and until the end of my life people may see that shirt and mistake it for me. – George Harrison • The biggest enemy of an artist is apathy… A kid gets killed by the police and I buy a T-shirt and before I can wear that one, there’s another kid (killed) and I’m running out of closet space. – Dave Chappelle • The comma, if it’s left out, sometimes can be a problem. There’s a slogan on a T-shirt going around that “Let’s Eat, Grandma,” and “Let’s Eat Grandma.” – Mary Norris • The Confederate flag is one of those things that should only be seen on t-shirts, belt buckles and bumper stickers to help the rest of us identify the worst people in the world. – John Oliver • The door opened, and we were met by a fifty-something man with a grizzled blond beard. He was wearing Bermuda shorts and a Lynyrd Skynyrd T-shirt. Also, he had an eye patch. “This is incredible,” I heard Adrian murmur. “Beyond my wildest dreams. – Richelle Mead • The last time I wore an animal hide; but this time I settled for this.” Eric had been wearing a long trench coat. Now he threw it off dramatically, and I could only stand and stare. Normally, Eric was a blue-jeans-and-T-shirt kind of guy. Tonight, he wore a pink tank top and Lycra leggings[…]They were pink and aqua, like the swirls down the side of Jason’s truck. – Charlaine Harris • The paparazzi were outside the theatre every single night, but we came up with a cunning ruse. I would wear the same outfit every time – a different T-shirt underneath, but I’d wear the same jacket and zip it up so they couldn’t see what I was wearing underneath, and the same hat. So they could take pictures for six months, but it would look like the same day, so they became unpublishable. Which was hilarious, because there’s nothing better than seeing paparazzi getting really frustrated. – Daniel Radcliffe • The photoshoot glitz and TV studio make-up isn’t the real me. I spend most days at home in Bristol in jeans and a T-shirt running around after the kids or shopping in the Co-op. – Carol Vorderman • The police never find it as funny as you do.-T-Shirt – Darynda Jones • The way I see it, life is a jelly doughnut. And then, just when you decided it’s good, you drop a big glob of jelly on your best T-shirt. – Janet Evanovich • The weirdest moments for me are in Los Angeles when I go to a mall that I’ve shopped at since I was 12, and now there’s like, massive pictures of our faces everywhere, at my local coffee shops now there’s these billboards of people wearing the T-shirts and stuff. It’s very strange, but it’s really exciting. – Lily Collins • The world expected girls to pluck and primp and put on heels. Meanwhile, boys dressed in rumpled T-shirts and baggy pants and misplace their combs, and yet you were suppose to fall at their feet? Unacceptable. – Libba Bray • The worst is when men try too hard, because it’s not very masculine. Your outfit has to look like ‘Oh, I just grabbed that.’ Not too calculated. Jeans, a t-shirt: the simpler the better. – Eva Green • Theatrically, you are aware of every part of you in acting; every component of your surroundings, including the clothes you wear. Eh…in voiceover, shorts and a t-shirt and badaboom…done. – Atticus Shaffer • There are times when you need to step back and realize that movie studios today are not necessarily the same things that they were many years ago. Many movie studios are international conglomerates now. They own everything from theme parks to toy companies to T-shirt companies to video companies. There’s a lot of different wheels to be greased. – Michael Uslan • There comes a moment when you know you just aren’t going to do anything esle productive for the rest of the day.-T-Shirt – Darynda Jones • There’s this unspoken thing that you have to wear a tux and some kind of nice dress. There are all these ethical rules, but I’m sure if you came to the Oscars in ripped jeans and a t-shirt they wouldn’t throw you out. You would just look like a fool. – Glen Hansard • This is very much part of my style, I work a lot on the back ¬ – I love the back of clothes for men. I love even T-shirts printed behind. Food says, “We don’t mind spending money on you.” – Andy Stanley • Two primary ways to keep volunteers motivated – Food and T-shirts. – Andy Stanley • Usually you’d do the summer scenes in the winter. So you’re out there with a T-shirt and hope nobody sees your air that you’re breathing out. We put ice cubes in our mouth to stop that from happening. – Jamie Farr • Vaclav Havel was a really popular leader. He couldn’t believe that he was really there. I mean, he still dressed in black T-shirts and jeans and was very kind of ’60s. And he began to realize the seriousness of it. And he knew how to strategize. And he had a very keen political sense, but he didn’t want to be like the old communist leaders. – Judy Woodruff • Very quietly, I heard a voice in my ear.It said, in a weird, cheesy, right-out-of-one-of-my-mother’s-novels way, “Ah. Wemeet again.” I turned my head, just slightly, and right there, practically on top of me, was theguy from the car dealership. He was wearing a red Mountain Fresh Detergent T-shirt – not just fresh: mountain fresh! – it proclaimed, and was smiling at me. “Oh,God,” I said. “No, it’s Dexter. – Sarah Dessen • Virtually the second I get home, I change into my “home” clothes – yoga pants and a T-shirt. – Karen Walker • Was I wearing my ‘I’m done with my virginity, please get rid of it for me’ T-shirt? – Rachel Vincent • We always need to have a smart black blazer in our closets. It’s a kitten sitting in a shark’s mouth, but he’s happy about it. – Seth Rogen • We having nothing to fear but fear itself. That, and maybe getting mugged by someone wearing a “No Fear” t-shirt. – Lev L. Spiro • We stink more of the world than we stink of sack cloth and ashes. A lot of contemporary churches today would feel more at home in a movie house rather than in a house of prayer, more afraid of holy living than of sinning, know more about money than magnifying Christ in our bodies. It is so compromised that holiness and living a sin-free life is heresy to the modern church. The modern church is, quite simply, just the world with a Christian T-shirt on! – Nicky Cruz • We want to keep extending our brand into different places, into movies and soundtracks and our music will live on through licensing and our brand lives on through merchandise and new generations will get to wear our clothing and our T-shirts and stuff that’s associated with us. – Nikki Sixx • We’re the ones causing global warming. In fact, what we ought to be saying is population growth is a major cause of it, so I hope to have a T-shirt out very, very soon: Stop global warming, use condoms. – Mechai Viravaidya • What exactly did you find in Atlanta?” Frank unzipped his backpack and started bringing out souvenirs. “Some peach preserves. Send him back to his hellish isolation? He’d been there, done that, and had the Ozzy T-shirt to prove it.’ (Styxx) – Sherrilyn Kenyon • What, are you like Buffy or something? A vampire slayer?” I wish. “No, but my sister is. And my boyfriend’s a vampire so I know a lot about their kind.” Jayden shrinks back from me, wide-eyed. “No, no. He’s one of the good ones. Not all vampires are evil,” I assure him. “So…you’re dating…Edward Cullen.” “Sure, if you have to relate it all to a Stephenie Meyer book,” I grudgingly agree. “But don’t say that to Magnus’s face. He’s a card-carrying member of Team Jacob. Even has the T-shirt. – Mari Mancusi • When a pastor continually makes light of the character of our Lord by speaking in scatological tones about the Son of Man’s bodily functions in incarnation or wearing T-Shirts that rather mock the King of Righteousness rather than glorify Him, then something is terribly awry. – Steve Camp • When I dress up, I have to have a lot of help. I was in a T-shirt until a few minutes ago. – Kristen Stewart • When I say ‘Clean water was only served to the fairer skin,’ what I’m saying is we’re making product with chitlins. T-shirts! That’s the most we can make. – Kanye West • When I see hipsters wearing Mao hats or Lenin T-shirts, I’m grateful. It’s like truth-in-labeling. For now I know you are: Woefully ignorant, morally stunted, purposively asinine, or all three. – Jonah Goldberg • When I started in the league, I went to a tailor and told him I wanted long t-shirts. But they were like, “You know, you don’t know what the trend is.” I was like, “Look dog, I don’t care about trends or your fashion sense. If I’m going to pay you money, this is where the shirt is going to end.” – Iman Shumpert • When I was fourteen and first started going out, I always wanted to be the opposite of everyone else. So I would go to the club in a polo T-shirt and pants and sneakers and a hat on backward, just so I would not be dressed like other girls. – Rihanna • When I’m wandering around the Himalayas, most of the people that I see are Westerners from Germany, California, or the Netherlands, who are wearing sandals, Indian smocks, and are in search of enlightenment, antiquity, peace, and all the things they can’t get in the west. Most of the people they meet are Nepali villagers in Lee jeans, Reeboks, and Madonna T-shirts who are looking for the paradise that they associate with Los Angeles – a paradise of material prosperity and abundance. – Pico Iyer • When our mothers are alive and healthy, they do extraordinary things… like the mothers of Plaza de Mayo, who marched in Argentinean plazas, defying the military junta dictatorship and demanding the whereabouts of their abducted children… or the Liberian mothers who faced down civil war armed only with T-shirts and courage. – Liya Kebede • Whenever I go to Germany I find that my readers have T-shirts with my book covers printed on them. They come to all the events, they have gifts and they come with their families. They are always very open to sharing their personal stories. – Cecelia Ahern • Willow nestled against him. He smoothed her long hair down the back of her T-shirt, feeling its softness. In a few moments she fell asleep again, her breathing warm and regular against his chest. Alex kissed her head, his arms tightening around her. As he drifted back to sleep himself, he saw a brief flash of the thousands of angels streaming in, but right then it seemed distant, almost unimportant. The only thing that mattered was that he was lying in a bed holding Willow, their bare legs entwined. It was all he wanted to do for the rest of his life. – L.A. Weatherly • With the first kid, you micromanage it, making sure there’s no hair out of place when it goes off to school. But by the third kid, it’s more like, “Oh, you want to wear a splatter-painted, Hard Rock Café T-shirt for seven days in a row and not brush your hair? Go for it. Be who you want to be.” – Annie E. Clark • Women show off their personality and character through accessories more than with low-cut shirts and skirts with huge slits. – Sarah Lafleur • Worldwide, most people dress more casually these days, don’t they? They have done for the last 20 or 30 years, I suppose. So, every place that I go to, the majority of people really wear jeans, trainers, T-shirt – everybody seems to dress more for comfort. Whereas, even in my lifetime, even up to the early-’70s, there was still that thing of dressing up. – Paul Weller • You can be the chicest thing in the world in a T-shirt and jeans – it’s up to you. – Karl Lagerfeld • You can’t fix stupid, but you can numb it was a 2 by 4.–T-SHIRT • You can’t take life for granted. I am lucky to have everything I’ve ever wanted. I’ve got a beautiful wife, a job I’ve always dreamed of…and my face on my own t-shirts. – Kevin Harvick • You could have the best suit in the world, but if you haven’t got the right shirt and tie with it you could look like a bag of rubbish. You do know it cost money have a house? You do know it cost money to eat? Get money, don’t let these people fool you. – DJ Khaled • You know, being in a rock band, you can’t overdo the costume changes too much because everyone thinks, oh, that’s not a real rock band. Look how many times he changes costumes. That’s not rock. Rock’s about going on in a T-shirt and staying in it and getting it all dirty. But that’s not really my approach. – Mick Jagger • You might be a redneck if your favorite T-shirt is offensive in thirteen states. – Jeff Foxworthy • You should’ve gone to China, you know, ’cause I hear they give away babies like free iPods. You know, they pretty much just put them in those t-shirt guns and shoot them out at sporting events. – Ellen Page • You wouldn’t know a clue if it danced in front of you with a T-Shirt that read ‘I’m a clue – Eoin Colfer • Your best T-shirt should be like your bed, it just feels like you are home when you are in it. – Ashton Kutcher • You’re nothing but an apple, a silly t-shirt, a catchphrase and a stupid haircut. – Randy Orton • You’ve never told me about your love life, Scarlett. You’re a very pretty girl. You must have a boy shacked up somewhere for your personal delights. I’d bet it’s a booky one, overtones of Harry Potter and a lot of black T-shirts.- Maureen Johnson
A continuation of USA TODAY bestselling author Leonard Goldberg’s The Daughter of Sherlock Holmes, A Study in Treason is a new intriguing locked room mystery for Joanna and the Watsons to solve.
The following case has not previously been disclosed to the public due to the sensitive information on foreign affairs. All those involved were previously bound by the Official Secrets Act. With the passage of time and the onset of the Great War, these impediments have been removed and the story can now be safely told.
When an executed original of a secret treaty between England and France, known as the French Treaty, is stolen from the country estate of Lord Halifax, Scotland Yard asks Joanna, Dr. John Watson, Jr., and Dr. John Watson, Sr. to use their keen detective skills to participate in the hunt for the missing treaty. As the government becomes more restless to find the missing document and traditional investigative means fail to turn up the culprit, Joanna is forced to devise a clever plan to trap the thief and recover the missing treaty.
Told from the point of view of Dr. John Watson, Jr. in a style similar to the original Sherlock Holmes stories, A Study in Treason is based partly on facts in our world and partly on the facts left to us by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
Full of excitement and intrigue, this mystery is sure to be enjoyed by fans of Sherlock Holmes as well as the works of Laurie R. King and Charles Finch.
Wow, I absolutely just love this series now!😍 Well I just read this book which is the second one but I fell in love and it has all the awesome Sherlock Holmes Feels! I was so excited when I received an email alerting me that I was granted a wish from the publishers! St. Martin’s Press, you guys rock!😉💜📚 This story captivated my heart because Joanna is just like her father, Sherlock. I also loved the aspect of having Dr. Watson and his son part of the team as well. They make a great team and had me guessing from the very beginning how things would conclude. The characters were fantastic in my opinion and I can’t wait to read the first in the series now! The mystery was solid and I thought I could use my skills for this book after figuring out Ruth Ware’s latest novel from the beginning chapters but I have to admit that the ending surprised me and there was quite the twists that I won’t soon forget. I read this novel within a day and was scrolling through pages as fast as I possibly could. I definitely recommend this book to Sherlock fans and mystery lovers alike!
They call her Crazy Anna.
Anna Flint won’t shake your hand. She collects tin cans. She cleans her cubicle at work with Lysol several times a day. But Anna doesn’t care that they call her crazy. She’s absolutely satisfied with her life of perfect organization, cleanliness, and most of all, solitude.
Matt Harper likes Anna Flint. He likes that she’s the smartest person he knows and he likes her big blue eyes. He doesn’t even mind her can collection. In fact, he pretty much likes everything about Anna. As his body and his world are falling apart, she still manages to make him happy.
Matt is the only person Anna has ever wanted to be close to. But how can she go on a date with him if the thought of dinner at a restaurant fills her with terror? How can she ever kiss the man she loves if she can’t even touch him?
Maybe it’s time to stop being Crazy Anna. If only she could.
I was CRAZY about this book! At first I was unsure how I felt about the characterization, especially with Matt. I’m going to be honest, I thought he was a PIG! I mean he rated girls by numbers but this was just at first sight and there was so much more depth to this story and his character than I could ever expect. The author delivers a twist with the characters that was completely unexpected but made this love story more unique and beautiful that warmed my heart and wrenched it at the same time. Anna’s character was so easy to relate to;. Everyone just disregarded her as “Crazy Anna”, but there was so much more to her story that will captivate you and keep the readers’ glued to the screen or pages or whatever have you, I have battled a severe mental illness my whole life and I could completely relate to Anna’s emotions and her characterization. The author describes the symptoms and effects of her mental illness perfectly. I actually have been disappointed by a lot of romances that I have read lately but this one went above and beyond. The story gave me a whirlwind of emotions plus delivered a twist that made the story hold more depth than the average love story. I wish that the author went a little bit more into Anna’s past to explain what set her off but I know there is a sequel and I just can’t wait I had happy tears at the end of this story and was completely attached to both of the main characters. Matt and Anna are fantastic characters and their story shows how hard life can be but how we can find beauty in the dark places.
Old West ghost towns are as American as apple pie. So what better place to sponsor a pie-eating contest than the Bar X, a fake ghost town available for exclusive private events on the edge of Silicon Valley. Valentine Harris is providing the pies, hoping to boost business for her struggling Pie Town shop and become a regular supplier for the Bar X.
But no sooner does she arrive in town than a stray bullet explodes the cherry pie in her hands. And the delicious dessert is not the only victim. Val finds the Bar X bartender shot dead in an alley. Egged on by her flaky friend and pie crust specialist, Charlene, Val aims to draw out the shooter. But solving a real murder in a fake ghost town won’t be easy as pie. And if Val doesn’t watch her back, her pies won’t be the only thing filled full of lead . . .
I absolutely loved this book just like the first in the series!!!😍 I totally #fangirl over this series! Not only do I just love Charlene’s never-ending humorous behavior! I am totally jealous that a woman in her 70-80s can have that much fun sleuthing around and I can’t! Man, responsibilities!😤 This was a great mystery, had a good plot and I wasn’t expecting the ending! I love this series because there is no insta-love or anything like that just fun and sleuthing. I highly recommend this series!
Newly single mother Stevie Lewis divides her time between raising Charlie, running a store with her best friend, and avoiding the meetings of her mother’s Beaufort Historic Society. Although her life has its challenges, it’s altogether average. Just the way she likes it.
When Vanessa, a ruthless dark witch, launches an attack against young Charlie, Stevie’s simple life derails, and her long-dormant powers awaken. A 300-year-old secret is exposed, revealing her destiny to one day rule the clandestine community of witches who hide in plain sight.
Now she must master her own magical powers before it’s too late. Because Vanessa’s on the warpath, and only Stevie can stop her.
Wow, what a fun start to a series! I thought this book was great and loved the characters it was definitely something different to enjoy on a relaxing day! I recommend checking this one out.😀🧚♀️❤📚
This was a fun cozy novel and was a sure Sunday afternoon delight! I love reading books that involve books in some way or fashion. I loved the characters and the plot. I love pretty much all the Cozies Kensington Books publishes and they picked another fantastic one with this one! Highly recommended novel. I can’t wait to see what the author comes out with next!
Five years ago, I did something impulsive. I turned myself into a cliche when I decided to be spontaneous and hopped in my car and took off to Vegas. I had no idea that decision would come back to haunt me. Now, I am a super star, engaged to a rock star, and have everything I could ever want. Until my world implodes around me and I find myself running back to where it all began.
Five years ago, the woman of my dreams walked into my club. And as quickly as she entered, she fled. All I was left with were memories and a piece of paper. I searched everywhere for the girl who starred in all of my wildest fantasies, but it wasn’t until her life got turned upside down that she came barreling back into mine with more complications then I could have dreamed. I fell for her, hard. What she doesn’t know is I have a secret that could very well tear us apart.
This novel was fun, sexy, filled with laughs and made my day! I really loved this book, the characters were fun and it was just the read I was looking for! Highly recommend!😁
