#i really enjoyed the mentalist having so many episodes

I finished watching the Mentalist yesterday and I told myself that I was going to take some time to reset my sleep schedule. It's been completely shot to pieces by my inability to resist binge watching and also my whirlwind 5-day side job as an ALM on a very messy shoot, and I kept telling myself that I would get back to normal once I finished the Mentalist. So I literally sat there, after the credits rolled on the finale, and told myself that I was going to take a break, consume some fan content at a leisurely pace and get my sleep schedule back on track before starting another show. I was being so responsible about it. And then, a few hours later, I'm lying in bed and I get curious. Curiosity killed the cat, or in this case my sleep schedule. In a meager defense, I did have to get on my computer at like 1am to deal with a work emergency. But somehow that lead to me going to sleep around 3 after watching the pilot for White Collar. Why do I have literally zero self control? Why am I like this.
#thankfully (?) that pilot did not have the same magnetism that psych or the mentalist had#so I was able to go to sleep afterwards without feeling uncontrollably drawn to watching the next episode#and I'm also thankful that it's a cable show with shorter seasons#i really enjoyed the mentalist having so many episodes#but it's a huge commitment to watch a show that long#i'm in the mood for something shorter now#and maybe i'll finally be able to watch something casually for once#<- ha. as if. but I want to be delusional for a little while at least#also i really want to get back into listening to the psychologists are in podcast#i ADORE bts podcasts by people who actually worked on the show in question and psych is an absolute masterpiece of a show#i just need to find the time#and now that my brain isn't completely full of the mentalist hopefully i'll have more time#though i doubt my adoration for teresa lisbon is going anywhere anytime soon#she's just too perfect#she's the love of my life#girlblogging

hellooo, fellow bucktommy shipper (and casual b*ddie enjoyer, if it weren't for the horrors...) here! i really liked your take on b*ddie st*ns and how they are now making super wild assumptions based on some latest interviews.
you know one thing that irks me? somehow nobody seems to talk about is the fact that in canon, buck isn't written to be in love with eddie at all. like, can we please talk about this??? because I'm all for Death Of The Author. OS can talk about ships all he wants but in the end, only the canon narrative matters to me personally. i've watched long-form content with endgame couples being set up in the pilot episodes who become canon many seasons later (bones, castle, grey's anatomy, the mentalist, etc.), and the entire point of such couples is to establish that, yes, they have been having romantic feelings all this time since day one. they do so very very obviously. there is zero subtlety or room for questioning.
one of the most common tropes is to give one or both characters (of the endgame couple) another love interest so that the endgame couple can be full of jealousy and pettiness every time that other love interest is mentioned or shown. having another love interests always endangers the original closeness of the endgame couple, and then the breakup propels the endgame couple forward in their relationship. the love interest is always used for comparisons, to make it abundantly clear that everybody else is lacking in some way. at no point in 911 did they do so with buck and eddie??? these dudes go through various romantic relationships, and never ever has it been any issue to the b*ddie dynamic. never was it talked about. never were hints dropped that one of them is jealous. even now, with bucktommy, eddie shows not a single ounce of jealously. on the other side, look at how they showed us buck being obviously jealous because eddie monopolized tommy's time even though buck wanted tommy time himself! buck couldn't stand the jealousy even a little bit, and he ended up literally hurting his bestie because of it. but whenever eddie is involved romantically and sexually with someone, there are zero signs that buck is bothered or threatened or jealous. they both seem super chill? they do not question at any point that them dating other people might hurt their relationship? logically, that must mean buck's never wanted to be romantically or sexually involved with eddie (and vice versa). at it's core, b*ddie has been written as a friendship. to this day, we have no canon proof for anything else.
i would not hate b*ddie to happen or anything. i do enjoy b*ddie fics (those that aren't super misogynist ♥). and i think it could be a great couple if done well! but as you said, even when buck thought eddie was hot... well, so what? that's literally just an objective observation. RG is handsome based on societal standards. chim and hen also immediately acknowledged that eddie was hot in 2x01, and both of them are Not At All romantically or sexually attracted to eddie either. nobody is questioning chim's or hen's sexuality based on the comments they made about eddie being hot. because nothing about this equals real romantic feelings or the desire to be in a relationship. the fandom understands that logic just fine with chim and hen. why not with buck, though? also, we have yet to see a reversed moment for eddie staring at buck and finding him hot. they had no problem to show eddie Immediately having a crush on ana flores when he first met her. this shows that eddie feels sexual attraction just fine. he was, however, never shown in canon to feel it for buck.
also interesting: even though buck found eddie hot when they first met, it did not trigger buck to seriously question his sexuality at any point in the past like, 5 years or so. in all those years of canon b*ddie friendship, the show has never used the plethora of opportunities to propel b*ddie into romantic or sexual territory. the show could have! but the show never did, so i refuse to let b*ddie st*ns or OS retcon this. if it's not in the canon material, it isn't canon. with tommy, it took only a couple of weeks and a handful of interactions for buck to reach a point of clarity about his sexuality. the most logical deduction imo is that buck simply clocked that eddie's hot (like everybody else, duh, he isn't special in that regard), and it's never meant anything deep.
my only real probem with this entire situation is how hardcore b*ddie st*ns are now using this as a justification to harass others even more (especially bucktommy shippers). i'd love to enjoy canon bucktommy and fanon b*ddie in peace! but the hate that b*ddie st*ns are spreading everywhere again (like with every new season and newly introduced love interest) is so overwhelming.
sorry for the long ass rant btw oopsie. feel free to ignore this. i just wanted to let it out and it seemed like you would understand. anyway, thanks for reading in case you got this far!
I’d never ignore a sensible take, anon! (I feel bad that you had to go anon but I understand. We know the drill by now, some stans are scary lol)
But like, ALL OF THIS!!!
Discourse like this is what takes away the enjoyment of media for me. It sucks that fandom experience can have two very extreme opposing sides, specially when it comes to two “competing” ships. You can kinda tell by how bucktommy shippers behave (I’m not trying to flex at all because I am one. A good majority of us has zero problem with b*ddie endgame even though we prefer the other. We like what we are getting and are happy to see this storyline play out) compared to b*ddie shippers (of course not all of them, I’m talking about the entitled ones. That clog comment sections, bother actors, go to the other ships tag to complain about it and say how their preferred ship is better, etc).
Im not immune to bad takes and bad fan behavior. Ive surely acted like these stans in other fandoms and i do regret it, so i hate seeing it happen again and again, no matter where i go.
Not to quote mean girls, but I wish we could all get along…
All that being said, whichever ship “wins”, it’s no one’s call but the writers and producers of the show. Someone told me that Tim writes for himself and doesn’t take outside factors (at least to an extent cause it’s impossible to not know the fan reaction) into consideration when it comes to where he wants the story to go.
#don’t apologize anon#im not a popular blog so getting a nice ask is always fun to read and respond to :)#lety rambles#ask#911#bucktommy#tevan#firefly#firepilot#911 abc

hnnng i'm not even done with house md yet but should i get into psych??
Absolutely! Psych is a very very good show. Even though it is a lighthearted show, it still has some serious moments and elements to it. Psych is the kind of show I can watch over and over again at any time because of how light and funny it is. The characters are absolutely loveable. The cast is so precious. Just everything about it is so perfect. Psych is eight seasons long. They also have three movies and a podcast together. The cast really wants to make more movies together.
I adore House MD, obviously, but it is more heavy than the show Psych is. Which sometimes I am not in the mood for. Psych has an episode for everyone. They have a musical episode, Bigfoot episode, cowboy episode, a Christmas episode, uhhh, they have an episode where they all had a late night out together and cannot remember anything that happened to them, a demon possession/“Exorcist” parody episode, a parody of Stephen King’s “The Shining”, a vampire episode, werewolf episode, etc.
There’s so many characters in the show that I just adore. Lassie is my favourite, Woody, Gus, Shawn, McNab, etc. There’s a character for everyone to enjoy. I just adore this show so much and the cast included.
It’s not mentioned in the show, but on Twitter a while back the creators of the show just randomly posted something along the lines of “Oh, yeah, lassie? Not straight. He’s actually pansexual-“ I do believe this was from the actual creators account. So, I thought that was cool.
Lassie and his partner detective Juliet O’Hara are such an amazing example of shows portraying male and female friendships properly. They actually make them friends and have it remain that way. I’m not saying that two people of the opposite sex cannot be together or anything, but it seems every time I watch a show they never make the guy and girl just be friends. There’s always tension and sex and then that’s all it becomes. They are just such an amazing duo and a perfect example of two people of the opposite sex just being besties without any weird tension or sex. I adore it.
I just so so highly recommend Psych to anyone. It’s one of my comfort shows. It’s so nice. Psych, the show and movies, is available on Peacock and Amazon Prime for free. Another show along the lines of Psych but is more serious is called The Mentalist. That show is also SO good. I highly recommend Psych and The Mentalist to anyone looking for something to watch. [:
(I will be making some more Psych and Shassie art in the future. They are one of my favourites to draw. Even the actors ship it. Which is hilarious. Lmao.)

My top 10 favorite shows (take two)
A couple of years ago, I posted a 'top 10 favorite shows' list right here on Tumblr. Recently scrolled through it again and was very much surprised by how DIFFERENT it was from my current one. A lot of new entries, a lot of new faves (and I have a LOT of faves). So I thought it might be fun to share my latest top 10 for anyone listening in the void. And hey, maybe you walk away with a few recommendations if our tastes are similar. You should note that these are ranked by how much I love them and nit by how good they objectively are.
Gonna drop my old list at the end if anyone's curious too. If not, let's get going.
10. Arcane
Arcane is, simply put, an amazing show. The animation is absolutely stunning, probably one of the best animated pieces of media I've seen in my life and I'm looking forward to seeing more from this studio. It's incredible how the writers managed to take a few game characters and turn them into layered and interesting individuals whose story captures you without fail. My favorite part of it has to be Silco's relationship with Jinx. Really pulled at my heartstrings. The show used to be in my top 5 (maybe a slight bias considering I made the list right after I was done with the show), but with so many new entries on the list, some shows had to go down. Still very much excited for the new season coming out in a few months.
9. Killing Eve
Ah, how the mighty have fallen. This show used to be in second place, but I'm pretty sure that was before the last season came out and ruined everything. Well, the last season wasn't as much to blame (even though it wasn't half as good as the rest of the show) as much as the horror that was the last episode. If I could delete that mess from my head, I would. Anyway, with that little rant being done, the rest of Killing Eve was absolutely incredible and it would've stayed in top 5 for sure. It has amazing humor, emotion, messiness, amazing characters, sapphic tension... For those of you who don't know, Killing Eve features a sort of cat and mouse game between an MI6 agent with a fascination for female killers and, you've guessed it, a badass female assassin. I couldn't not put it in top 10 even after witnessing the last episode.
8. Fleabag
Fleabag's "This is a love story" from s2e1 and her self-depricating monologue from s1e1 still ring around my head. Fleabag may be a mini-series, but it sure packs a punch. A dark comedy filled with British Humour . Fleabag (and yes, that's the protagonist) is both awful and relatable. And if you love morally grey characters, you're in for a treat. Because Fleabag is very much grey. Empty, apathetic, lonely, filled with love, a mess. You constantly wonder what she'll do next, is she going to reach a new low or heal. Another bonus, the hot priest. This one didn't drop much from the previous list, a consistent good. (Fun fact: Fleabag was written by the same person who wrote season 1 of Killing Eve).
7. Gravity Falls
And now we have one of the best cartoons in cartoon history (around the same spot on the list too). Gravity Falls is a classic. One of the cartoons that shaped the modern cartoon blueprint (along with other amazing cartoons, such as Adventure Time, Regular Show, AWOG...). Only two season and it still left such an impact. A cast of lovable characters, an engaging plot that doesn't miss, the funny jokes that are just the kind of kid friendly (baaaarely) that even the adults could enjoy. Just had to put it in my top 10.
6. The Mentalist
A blast from the plast. And a new entry even though it shouldn't have been since I've seen this show a long time ago, but it slipped my mind when making the original list. Rewatched it in the meantime, so here we are. This was the show you watched when tv shows were something that was still mostly for, well, the tv. I used to love getting my daily fix of it when I was younger. Crime shows were very popular (and still are), but Mentalist really did it like no other. The Mentalist was about a fake ex psychic Patrick Jane who joins the cops as a consultant so he can get revenge on Red John, a serial killer who murdered his family. Sounds glum, but a lot of the show consists of silly, murderer-of-the-week formatted episodes. But the star of the show definitely was Jane's slow burning quest to catch Red John. All the clues, the intrigue, the suffering. Not to mention that Jane was an absolute legend. (Shoutout to Cho).
5. What We Do In The Shadows
Another new entry! (Actually, all of the shows in top 5 are new entries except for num 1). What We Do In The Shadows is absolutely hilarious. A mockumentary about a bunch of vampire roomates who get up to all kinds of trouble. A simple, but effective concept based on an existing movie. This show got recommended to me along with OFMD, and it really captured my heart. The humour is silly, a lot of gags about sex and weird shit, but the acting is what really sells it. Ever member of the cast has prefect comedic timing, accent, expressions and a way of delivering a phrase that will have you in stiches. A great pick-me-up show.
4. Bungou Stray Dogs
The first and only anime on the list. I was actually debating if I should place it on spot number 3 instead, but let's leave it here for now. I f-ing adore bsd. I was reluctant about starting it because I thought it was too long, but, finally, it was seeing Nikolai's badass as fuck villain design that made me watch the show. And now I'm drowning in manga hell. How can an update be so short, yet so insane? The show progressively becomes more insane and senseless, with a cast of characters so likable that you're happy that their plot armor is close to unbreakable. The author sure loves to watch them suffer though. Did I mention that the characters are named after real life authors? And that everyone has a sexy rival and trauma? Yeah, good stuff.
3. Merlin
In a land of myth... An entry that should've been old considering when the show came out, but I've only seen it after creating my original list. Did it air on the telly when I was a kid? Maybe, can't really remember. A plot summary. Merlin is a young lad who was born with magic. He goes to Camelot for some reasonn, a place known for having a king who kills people for doing magic. He becomes a servant for a royal prat, prince Arthur. A once and future king who is supposedly Merlin's destiny. Watch as magical hijinks turn into ANGST, OH PLEASE NO. Another show I avoided due to its length, but those out of context videos on YouTube really wore me down with their charm. Not to mention that one "Are they gay?" video featuring Merthur, so I had to judge it for myself. Verdict: up to the viewer to decide the nature of that particular relationship (ship the shit out of the though).
2. Interview With The Vampire
I will NEVER stop screaming about how good this show is! It's so underrated that it pisses me off. Why isn't it mainstream, why isn't it drowning in awards? I'm trying to think of a bad moment from the show and I just can't. The writing, the casting, the acting, the directing, the scenary... High quality stuff. And this is just the kinda show where it's just so obviously a passion project where everyone involved is highly invested in the plot and knows their stuff. This show makes you feel 50 different emotions at once and, somehow, the cast manages to handle that perfectly. Just give them the awards already! One of my favorite things about the show is the use of the unreliable narrator. You never know how much of what's being said in the interview is credible. Anyway, I'm riding the high of the new season, but this is one of the rare shows that almost reached my number 1.
1. Hannibal
How do I describe Hannibal other than a masterpiece. A consistent number 1 on my list. This show combines everything I ever might want in a show. It's funny, it's dark, romanting, eldritch horror-like, smart, poetic etc etc. The finale of season 2 is one of the best episodes I've seen in my life, if not the best. Every plot point wrapped up, every character dealt with. It's kinda funny how the more you watch the show, the funnier ir becomes. Give me a billion cannibal puns, give me Will shaking like a wet dog. It really made me appreciate consumption as a love language.
-----
Anyway, that's all folks. Link to my previous list:

Calcium's Crime Series Tier List
Years back I said I would do this because I watch way too many crime shows, so here is my tier list but of course, I can't just leave it at this so allow me to explain some things. Now, obviously, not every crime series is on there because Columbo would be among my favorites.
MY FAVORITES
Pysche is the best crime show ever, it is comedic, heartfelt, and probably the one that has aged the best (not perfectly). I could gush about it, but tallstheintrovert has a whole three-hour video essay about it on YouTube, and sums everything up beautifully. To put it simple: Ninety-nine percent of the show is a fake psychic annoying the police by solving their crimes for them. Also, it costars Karim Dulé Hill who is one of my favorite actors.
Cold Case hasn't aged as well, but the concept is unique and episodes will make you cry. As the title states, the entire concept revolves around solving cold cases, both recent and old, with flashbacks to the crime and giving people modern-day closure. Not only that, but it will showcase how bigotry and police corruption prevented cases from getting solved (although how well that age varies from episode to episode).
CSI NY is a spin-off in the CSI (Crime Scene Investigator) series so it is all about the people in the labs. Is it accurate? No, but it is still cool to see how evidence connects back. It hasn't aged well in many regards but I enjoy it greatly, and I think it has the best main lead.
OTHER COMMENTS
CSI: Crime Scene Investigator is the first in the CSI franchise. In my opinion, it is the best one on a technical level with a really solid cast of characters (I just like New York better).
White Collar and The Mentalist are good shows, especially because most of the show is dedicated to annoying the police. Sloan Stowe has a YouTube video about the Mentalist that I think is a good watch even if it contains spoilers.
Bones and NCIS are on here mainly because I have fond memories of them, not because I think they aged well or are good but because I watched Bones with my oma every day after school and NCIS with my parents so I am rather fond. I'd recommend Bones over NCIS, because it is more comedic and has a great cast of characters but someone once called it the Glee of Crime Shows and I hate I can't disagree with that assessment.
Castle is fun to watch, and has aged surprisingly in many cases at least compared to other crime series. For example, in the first seasons there is an episode about Vodun but treated with actual care and dignity or at least as much as crime series can manage. The main draw is not the main duo, the main draw is the relationship between the male lead and his daughter.
Law and Order SVU is a Law and Order show so it deepthroats the police every chance it gets, but it also has Mariska Hargitay as Olivia Benson and Ice-T as Odafin 'Fin' Tutuola, so...
Criminal Minds is tricky because it hasn't aged the best, and the show is known for its heaviest episodes to cause nightmares. Regardless, I think it is worth a shot because the cast is brilliant even if it is hard to watch most of the time.
Rizzoli and Isles is an interesting watch, but I wouldn't recommend it because it is very much a hit-or-miss type of show. The friendship between the two leads is a heavy draw though.
Chicago PD opens on a corrupt cop beating a man's face in and stealing his car. That is the main lead, who was an antagonist in Chicago Fire. Why did they do this? I don't know. Don't watch it. Watch Chicago Med instead if you have to watch something.
Blue Bloods is conservative. Don't do that to yourself.

I just started binge watching The Mentalist, like 15 years too late. And it's such a damn good show!!!!
A real solid good team with incredible members, each of them bringing a great touch to the team. Jane is such an interesting protagonist - so upbeat and cheeky, but with such darkness. Lisbon is a kickass, strong, protective and amazing leader, and the only one who can actually rein Jane in. Cho is hilarious with his deadpan humour and a solid interrogator. Rigsby and Van Pelt are adorable, though perhaps I need to watch more to see them grow from the shy big guy and go-getter newbie in the episodes to come. But all members are so very endearing, and I'm glad to read that Jane and Lisbon will end up together (hooray!!).
The show has such witty dialogue. Jane definitely has some of the best lines with his schemes but the team's banter and their comebacks to annoying persons of interest are awesome. Cho often saying the stuff that makes me lol - "Impressive. The best I can do with a phone call is get pizza." 😂
Also, the show has real stakes. People close to them get hurt and die. I'm glad the core team is relatively safe so far and hope it'll be so for the rest of the seasons.
And shamoley Red John is a great villain. Written very well. I dunno how it all ends yet but so far the Red John eps really keep things on edge, and it's sad to see our heroes keep being several steps behind.
I admit I didn't like Bosco - it was creepy that a much older boss who was married was in love with Lisbon. But the impact his death had on Lisbon was sad, and wow the cruelty of what Red John did "for Jane" surprised me.
This show is a true emotional rollercoaster!! :')
I had just stopped watching House - which I had binged the first season of - but stopped halfway at S2 because man, that team is really toxic and unnecessarily dramatic (and House is a terrible boss), even if the stories and characters are interesting. I love quirky characters who are weird geniuses, but I love found family stories even more. So I did not enjoy House as it progressed and the characters turn on each other for dramatic effect - oh and also, it was really quite sexist at many turns. Cannot understand why all the women have to dress sexily in a hospital (women can dress however they like, but if it's practically every scene in the show where a major female doctor pops up, that's just odd and probably a directorial choice), or why House finds it perfectly fine to frequently make off-handed sexual remarks towards the female doctors who just laugh it off (yes he does that to his male staff also but much less frequently).
But The Mentalist... My gosh. Same era, but pretty darn respectful of women. Lisbon and Van Pelt are great characters, and some female persons of interest / criminals are v complex and nuanced. And aww this team is such a great found family!!
I forgot to add... The actors also do a stellar job. The nuances in their expressions and body language are fantastic, particularly Simon Baker and Robin Tunney. Even the one episode characters seem to act really well!
Really loving this show!

B, E and K for the fic writer ask😊
Heyy, thank you for the ask :)
B: What was the first fandom you read fic in? Which was the first you wrote fic for?
It must have been Stargate fanfiction back when I was ten and found the german fanfiktion site for the first time and wanting more content from Stargate.
I think the first fanfiction I started writing myself must have been around the same time also for Stargate. Just short things, that I had fun with. The first fanfiction I wrote and published was for The Mentalist, so just a small jump from where I started out.
E: What character do you identify with most? Is there a certain fic of yours that captures these qualities particularly well?
In general its a triangle of Raine Whispers (from The owl house), Hange Zoe (from Attack on Titan) and Nikola Tesla.
I haven't really written for the first two and I've not written much with Nikola either, but where the qualities from Nikola come through most in my writing is probably in something I am writing at the moment, so maybe I can reference that in the near future 😅
K: Do you have a guilty pleasures in fic (reading or writing)?
Yes, I love episodes-tag fanfictions, which I know many don't, so I try to be quiet about it. But just having a deeper dive into some scenes or some things that must have happened but wasn't shown, just to expand mostly on the relationships between people, I enjoy that immensely.
Also probably a guilty pleasure is reading the fluffiest, love confessions, tooth rotting fluff I can find. I do really like that.

Broadcast television has become so utterly mediocre. We used to get such great shows from all genres, the good wife, lost, desperate housewives, community, parks and rec, person of interest, fringe, the good place, bb99, FNL, Hannibal and we also used to have some fun prodecurals, castle, mentalist etc. Don't get me wrong there was always a lot of mediocrity but we used to have at least a few great dramas and comedies every year. Now it's like everyone with a good idea went to get stifled by 8 episodes in streaming and all we're left with are the fbi's and the law and orders and the NCIS's, we have Abbott elementary and ghosts but that's it. There are no truly great dramas or even truly good ones. I have seen almost everything and I can't think of a single one, granted there are a couple I enjoy but I wouldn't consider them to be on that standard. They don't want to do interesting storytelling anymore, just minimal effort all around. I enjoyed Alaska daily idk if you saw it with Hilary swank, about missing indigenous women in Alaska and journalism but that is for sure toast.
And ... that was cancelled today.
The thing with network TV is that the model doesn't reward risks anymore. Even the NCIS /FBI/One Chicago model doesn't really allow for those shows to take many risks within the already existing standards and preconditions. And outside that model, risks are nonexistent. If you get one big swing a year, you're lucky. And if that show is allowed a chance to grow, it's a miracle. Used to be risks were left to streaming, but even streaming is cutting down on risks these days. They might give them one season, but Netflix isn't truly giving shows a chance to grow anymore, so let's not really sing their praises.
The WGA strike might really change the landscape going forward, for broadcast and streaming. It might all depend on what the final deal looks like, but a lot of the things writers don't seem willing (and shouldn't) compromise on are the things that might make or break the industry and might determine how many risks we see being taken in the future. I don't think it's overstating it to say we are literally living a moment in time that might shape the future of entertainment.

Random thoughts i had today, not making any short of point or anything just a stream of thought. (About noticing how set pairings and typecasting slightly effecting my viewing experience lately)
I was watching the mentalist today. I mentioned a while back that me and my sister have been noticing so many actors who have played similar or in any way different characters in other shows like criminal minds that we're doing bingo cards.
Well the last episode i watched there's this guy, he played a killer on criminal minds, a small-level villain on another show and I was half sure he was going to be involved with the murder somehow, he got there too late but he was supposed to kill the guy.
And i was just thinking about how i dont how much of that theory was knowing the show's formula, him making sense or simply the fact that he's played similar roles before and it reminded me of an ask that showed up on my dash, dont remember who it was sent to ,about the pairings in only friends and how , we all know about the set pairing but it really becomes short of an interesting point in a show like only friends or even moonlight chicken where the go for pairing them up differently too and there's even the slight possibility that maybe the don't all end up paired up and happy in the usual sense.
And anon was pointing out how they'd be interested to see the audiences expectations and reactions maybe shift if maybe instead of Book playing Mew it was an actor Khun had properly been paired up with before, if maybe there was more press supporting a bit of a set pair shake up.
Another thought was how i wasn't necessarily surprised to see Ray and Mew's dynamic before the last ep, but i was (delightfully ) surprised to see that they'd go for them being a proper item for a while and how much i loved the fact that Boston and Top , even though it wasn't a thing that went anywhere , it was still very much canonically and explicitly a thing, which carried weight for the plot and the show we've seen so far
I enjoy the mentalist connections, they may take away from the surprise a bit but they can feel like inside jokes almost, plus I find it very interesting that for example Cameron, before playing Ian in shameless, not a particularly sinister character, played not one but two murderers , child on child crime, and all this before the age of fifteen. Like that's a fun connection.
I , as many of you , have mixed feelings on the set pairing thing, ofcourse i like seeing actors with good chemistry get the chance to act together again and explore different roles and dynamics, but as ive realizes it does alter my expectations and viewing experience even on a show like only friends.
Though to be fair that's not just the set pairings, it's the formula, if for example , moonlight chicken and only friends are paving a path towards set pairings getting more mixed up and a freedom with exploring different dynamics not just as an one episode drama plot device but as real possibilities of different developments for the story even for a little while, then maybe we can expect set pairings to still be a thing but not a thing that makes one possible way for the story to go unavoidable

You know I love slow burn, like everyone else, and I’d really like for buddie to be one, and I hope it’s, but I’m not a fan about how they’ve been treated in 5a, and above all in 6a. Bones, x files, the mentalist, Luke and lorelai are all slow burns that I loved, but contrary to buddie and 6a they had scenes together, they took years to be together but they had scenes almost every episode, with buddie it doesn’t happen, and if in 5a was kind of ok, after 5b imo it doesn’t make sense to repeat it
Hi Nonnie! Thank you for the ask. I’m guessing it’s in continuation to this ask, about Fox and slow burns?
If you don’t believe that Buddie’s going canon, that is perfectly legit. I don’t wanna give anyone false hope, I am not an exec in the TV industry, I’m not an insider, I have no super special knowledge that Buddie will go canon. All I have is two things that keep me watching and enjoying that aspect of the show:
1. The belief that 911, unlike a lot of other shows, is the kind that can be brave enough to let Buddie go canon, that it should and that it would profit a lot from it if the show does go that way.
2. The belief that even if Buddie don’t go canon, they’re still one of the greatest love stories ever told on TV, and I’ll enjoy every bit of it that I do get.
So given that, I want you to know that I am not trying to convince you of anything. You believe what you do! I’m just sharing my POV, and that includes my experience with slow burns, which many times included long periods of time of being kept apart and barely sharing any screen time. It happens! It serves a purpose: it makes the audience miss the couple, and it’s also sometimes seen as a “red herring.” The show makes us think it has abandoned a ship, so that the surprise when they get together is bigger, and the joy more satisfying. I’m not saying that every time two characters are apart, that means they’ll def get together! But bring apart for a while on screen also doesn’t mean that they won’t. So, take of this what you will, Nonnie! And just be happy. Find whatever it is that causes you joy, and go with that!
Thank you again and have a great day! As always, here’s my ask tag. xoxox

I’ve been watching so many more tv shows than I ever have in the past, and the reason I enjoy them so much is BECAUSE they’re all give or take 20 episodes a season. LOST is really good, with interesting characters and episodes that follow each of them specially. Supernatural has the monster-of-the-week format which, personally, keeps the interest up every episode while they sprinkle in plot points and character development. The Mentalist is a masterpiece that goes severely underrated for its tension and pacing (and amazing acting from all its cast), which is LARGELY only possible because each season is standard tv length. We as people need to realize that having everything be downsized is also downsizing our interests. Micro-series make micro-interests. Maybe it’s just me, but when I find something that makes me happy I want to sit in it as long as I can (see: supernatural, criminal minds, etc.) I’m not stuck in a constant loop of ultra highs and ultra lows, just searching all the time for new things that keep my interest.
It’s made me 100% happier to have constants in my life that I know will be around to pick me up when I’m depressed. I never used to have that, because I existed solely on YouTube, where my interests and niches changed so much more rapidly. I couldn’t count on anything to stick around so I never had anything constant to come back to.
All this to say, I love full length (and sometimes past-full-length) tv shows. I miss them dearly.
downsizing seasons from 22 episodes to 13 to 8. describing miniseries as "8 hour movies". loudly declaring that shows with 20+ episodes per season cannot truly be good. complaining that "it couldve been a movie". complaining about filler episodes. complaining about bottle episodes. complaining about episodes that prioritize character over plot. fr i think y'all just dont like television
#this isn’t to say that mini-series never have a place#just that they shouldn’t be the norm#I really miss when people would take their time to flesh out characters and stories#make the audience wait for things sometimes#throw them interesting plot points and characters in the meantime#i cannot be the only one#personal#text

Love reading your blog! A few questions. Do vertical stripes mean the same thing as horizontal? And, also, how much of the color theory that you've written about can be applied to other shows?
Hey Nonnie
I'm so glad you enjoy my blog - its always nice to know I'm putting out content people actually enjoy and not just shouting into the void, so thank you your kind words and for your great questions!
So stripe theory is very much about the horizontal stripes. Vertical stripes don't fit into that theory, I don't have a theory for the vertical stripes, but I'm currently in the middle of creating a full costume plot for all the mains and some of the regulars so that I can better spot patterns (no pun intended 😂) so I will keep an eye out for what scenes we see vertical stripes in and see if anything starts to emerge - you could also keep a note of them if you like and see if anything comes to you as and when you do any rewatching - I always love when others get involved with spotting costumes and patterns!
As to colour theory and other shows (and films), it really depends - in principle - there will be some degree of colour theory in all shows, it might be more full on or more subtle, it really depends on the designers and the overall direction a show has chosen to take. It also depends on how much colour theory the designers have studied. For example some shows will choose to go down a very specific aesthetic route and that might mean a much more limited colour palette that gets used for all characters, so it becomes much more difficult to apply colour theory. I can't think of an example of a tv show off the top of my head, but many films use it to great effect - The Matrix films and Pans Labyrinth are great examples of this.
while others might choose to use colour in a slightly different way and focus in on a specific colour which will only be seen on certain characters as a way of either highlighting that character or their storyline because they are important to the larger picture. the use of red in The Mentalist is an example where this was used to great effect - the red was either a costume, or the hair colour of a character and you would only ever see it on one character in each episode. there are other examples of this being done in both tv and film.
Its always worth looking at what colours characters are wearing, to see if colour theory is being applied to them, or if it isn't. the thing with it is that there are no hard and fast rules, each colour has a wide variety of meanings, its very much about figuring out which of those meanings a designer might be trying to get across and that is easier for some colour than others as the associations are much stronger i the wider pubic conscience than others are - for example acidic and vivid greens are very closely associated with poisons and jealousy, while baby pink (and baby blue but to a lesser extent) is associated with childishness and naivety!
Basically I've just taken a lot of words to say that it depends on the show or film but that there will be some aspect of colour theory in everything, even if its subconscious or not obvious!! 😂😂😂
Thanks for a great ask and my inbox is always open if you have more costume and colour theory questions!! 💜💜💜

Hello you. 😅
I love Modern Family. I binge watch that and Brooklyn 99. I just finished watching Living Single, another comedy sitcom. I was into Grey's Anatomy, but then it just kept going on and on with drama and not much medical stuff, that I didn't find it interesting anymore lol
You know, I am the same way with movies when it comes to psychological thrillers. I want to know the whys of the killers mind and not really focusing on the bloody stuff. I enjoyed The Conjuring movies because it gave the background of how things started.
This may sound crazy, but my favorite movies are musicals. I love Phantom of the Opera and Rent. I also love the marvel stuff, Fight Club, and my guilty pleasure...The Notebook.
Music wise, my repeats right now are Heartbreak Anniversary by Giveon, Leave Before you Love me by Jonas Brothers, Older by 5 Seconds of Summer. I have so many different playlists on Spotify though, and they range from pop to rap to filipino songs to country to classical 😅
So like to do batting cages, are you good at any other sports?
Are you into astrology stuff?
Hiii curious george! 😅
Oh yeah, Modern Family is so funny.. i love it. I sometimes even plays it in the background for my comfort or when i'm writing if im not listening to music.
I never watch brooklyn 99 and living single.. other sitcoms i watch often are The Big Bang Theory and Everybody Loves Raymond 😁.
Ah okay, i watched greys before but not too long.. sometimes i watch House. I sometimes rewatch Lucifer. And series that im currently watch whn i have the chance is The Mentalist..it's sooo good. I think u will like it.. because it's a crime solving movie but the main character tries to solve them by focusing on the killer's way of thinking or logic n other little details around.. i swear each episode always have plot twist.
The Conjuring scared me. I used to like to watch ghost scary movies but I stopped after I moved here because i feel that the ghosts r close n usually the house n the apartment looks similar kinda to where i live😅
I loveee The Phantom Of The Opera! Well i'm a big fan of the original singer who plays Christine Dae. I dont know if u know her, her name is Sarah Brightman. She's a british sopranos n she invented the "classical crossover" genre. U should check her music sometimes. I love almost all type of music as long as it doesnt sound too much to my ears
Nah,im not that good at sport. I would do more sports though if i dont have knee injury. N i go to batting cage just for fun n hit some balls. I love baseball.
Astrology? Something like horroscope or something? Yeah i do.
Cheerio!

MUSIC
Favourite genre?
I grew up listening to metal and rock, and that's where my heart is. Expecially symphonic metal. But I also listen a a lot more.
Favourite song?
I could say so many songs, if I really have to pick just one I would say Fear Of The Dark by Iron Maiden. That's the song that made me fall in love with music as a kid.
Most listened song recently?
Lately I have been really into Rain Paris' covers, she's really good.
Song currently stuck in your head?
Below My Feet by Mumford and Sons
5 fave lyrics?
Although I felt like giving up
It's not the road I chose
The path less often traveled
Held the highest, the highest of hopes
(The Curse Of The Fold by Shawn James)
Man, he took his time in the sun
Had a dream to understand
A single grain of sand
He gave birth to poetry
But one day'll cease to be

(The Greatest Show On Earth by Nightwish)
The first thing I ever heard
Was a wandering man telling his story
It was you, the grass under my bare feet
The campfire in the dead of the night
The heavenly black of sky and sea
(Song Of Myself by Nightwish)
And suddently Hades was only a man...
(Epic III from Hadestown off Broadway)

BOOKS
Favourite book genre?
I have a thing for the very first horror/scifi/fantasy that bloomed in gothic litterature at the end of the 1800s. I have no idea if that counts as a genre, but I have always had a thing for that part of litterature, and when I don't know what to read I usually just go for something that falls under this category
Favourite writer?
Neil Gaiman, and many others, but if I have to pick just one that's him. His writing style, the topics, everything is just perfect for my taste in writing.
Favourite book?
I usually say Frankenstein by Mary Shelly cause that is a great way to present the type of story I like. I was also lucky cause I read that book in the perfect moment of my life to connect with it amazingly. At the same time I feel like I am lying because to only pick one single book is so reductive.
Favourite book series?
I have commitment issues, I don't usually go for series. I would like to cheat by saying The Lord Of The Rings, but Tolkien considered it a whole book. Other than that the only full series I have read is Harry Potter. ( I have also read a few books from the Percy Jackson series, which I enjoyed at the time. And last year I started reading The Witcher series, which I am really liking but I am only two books in and I don't know if that would count).
Comfort book?
The Humans by Matt Haig. Anyone who knows me, or has been following me for a while knows about this, amd no I will never shut up about it until everyone has read it. It just gives me hope in a way didn't think was possible. (Also shout out to The Hobbit cause it just makes me feel so good)
Perfect book to read on a rainy day?
Okay so not an easy question. I think I would either go for a short book that I could read in one sitting or a collection of short stories. For the first category my first thought was Tarocchi Magici E Cavallereschi : La Vera Storia Di Rolando by Marcello Simoni. I have no idea if this was translated but It was a great retelling of the medieval story of Rolando I read last year, I'd love to re-read it. For the second category any short story collection by Neil Gaiman. I particularly love Trigger Warning.
Favourite character?
How can you ask me to pick just one? I love the Creature of Frankenstein, I connected so much to that character. But also Herger from Crichton's Eaters of the Dead is a character I love. I adore his positive spirit and his way of seeing life. At this point I should also mention Bilbo Baggins from The Hobbit, one of the characters that I feel more close to me.
5 favourite quotes from your favourite book(s) that you know by heart?
Beware; for I am fearless, and therefore powerful.
(Frankenstein by Mary Shelley)
A paradox: The things you don’t need to live—books, art, cinema, wine, and so on—are the things you need to live.
(The Humans by Matt Haig)
Don’t aim for perfection. Evolution, and life, only happen through mistakes.
(The Humans by Matt Haig)
Herger said to me, "Be thankful, for you are fortunate."
I inquired the source of my fortune. Herger said in reply, "If you have the fear of high places, than this day you shall overcome it; and so you shall have faced a great challenge; and so you shall be adjudged a hero.
(Eaters Of The Dead by Michael Crichton)
Then something Tookish woke up inside him, and he wished to go and see the great mountains, and hear the pine-trees and the waterfalls, and explore the caves, and wear a sword instead of a walking-stick.
(The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien)
hardcover or paperback | buy or rent | standalone novels or book series | ebook or physical copy | reading at night or during the day | reading at home or in nature | listening to music while reading or reading in silence | reading in order or reading the ending first | reliable or unreliable narrator | realism or fantasy | one or multiple POVS | judging by the covers or by the summary | rereading or reading just once
TV AND MOVIES
Favoutie tv/movie genre?
I have no idea. I don't know if I feel different about the genres I watch the most. You know what? I'm gonna go with animated movies because at the end of the day that's always the best option when you don't know what to watch.
Favourite movie ?
There is so many movie. In my family we religiously rewatch a bunch of movies every year, how could I pick just one? I'm gonna go with Young Frankenstein cause that movies is hilarious, and everytime I rewatch it I laugh as if I didn't know all the jokes already.
Comfort movie ?
Honestly it depends on what type of comfort I am looking for. I could go with a couple of my favourite disney classics like The Emperor's New Groove and The Lion King. But also The Hobbit and The Lord Of The Rings movies. This list could go on for days honestly.
Movie you watch every year ?
The list would be way too long, I am a serial rewatcher. I can say a few I haven't mentioned yet. Big Trouble In Little China, the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Wasabi, The 13th Warrior, Lo Chiamavano Trinità and A LOT of other movies.
Favoutie tv show?
The answer to this has changed many many times through the years, but I can confidently say Brooklyn Nine Nine.
Comfort tv show?
Brooklyn Nine Nine, Friends, and I know there's something else but I can't think of any title at the moment.
Most rewatched tv show?
I could say Supernatural, but I really don't want to say Supernatural. I have watched The Mentalist a fair amount of times (the first couple seasons). Now that I think about it I have seen Lie To Me a lot of times aswell. B99 too but I disn't awant to be too repetitive.
5 fave characters?
I don't know if this is supposed to be on tv shows or movies so I will randomly list a few from both. Bilbo Baggings from The Hobbit (yes I am saying it again BUT you don't understand how much I feel like him cause I also both want and not want to go on an adventure). Rosa Diaz from B99, Patrick Jane from The Mentalist, Elizabeth Swan from The Pirates Of The Caribbean. I know it's just four but I can't think of anyone at the moment.
tv shows or movie | short seasons (8-13 episodes) or full seasons (22 episodes or more) | one episode a week or binging | one season or multiple seasons | one part or saga | half hour or one hour long episodes | subtitles on or off | rewatching or watching just once | downloads or watches online

Cool. And now you've made me want to tell mine:
It's funny to me cause LiveJournal is where i started. Well, not technically. Technically I was on a fan blog the CW network made for Supernatural. During the summer before Season 3 (I was maybe 13 or so) I got into that blog (the "CW lounge") and they had SPN Fanfics on there, among many other things (we used to play a lot of fan games and discuss the show on there too). Sometimes they gave links to their LiveJournal accounts so it was the 1st fanfic site I lurked. (I never joined LiveJournal)
I wrote 2 fanfics for Supernatural for myself before I finally joined Fanfiction net in 2010 and wrote many more there. I also wrote a bit for 12 Monkeys (Syfy), Dominion (Syfy), and one fic for 911 Lone Star. These are all shows where I took part in fandom. I was a fan of many other shows (Heartland (CBC), Person Of Interest. Nikita (CW), etc.), but didn't feel the need to interact with every fandom.
Fanfics and gifs are my thing. I joined Tumblr in 2015 for the gifs more so than any human interactions. I just wanted to reblog gifs at first. I later live watched and reblogged Tumblr comments for Supernatural and 911 Lone Star episodes.
I never knew about the Pedro fandom until recently either. I got Disney+ for the first time the summer of 2022 and Din was my intro to the Pedro fandom. (Just ignore the fact I'd seen Pedro in The Mentalist and Nikita before but didn't recognize him when Din had his helmet off).
I'd already been in the fandom for The Last of Us (mainly for Joel) for at least a month before I got to see Din. So I loved Joel before I knew Pedro (but I knew he'd do the role justice when the BTS pics started really rolling out and the first TLOU trailer sold me).
I spent several months watching his guest star roles on youtube and watching some of his movies while also reading fics on here. "The Crush" by @the-ginger-hedge-witch was the first Pedro character fic I read (Javier Pena). I don't think I was even done watching Narcos by that point (it took me a while to get around to Season 3).
By the time TLOU Season 1 aired I was reading Pedro character fanfics on here constantly. Also on AO3 too. But I don't like AO3's set-up. I'm hardly on there (except to archive fics for safe keeping). I didn't want to join AO3 but when someone took down their fic on Tumblr and only had it on AO3 I joined AO3 so I could bookmark the fanfic. It's just an archive for me, through and through.
I wrote for Joel just after TLOU was done airing, my first reader fic EVER. I also was not used to reading/writing reader fics - Supernatural fics were almost always 3rd person, sometimes 1st person for romantic fics. It took time for me to like reading and writing in 2nd person "you". I still prefer 3rd person but I like that in reader fics I don't have to describe the reader's appearance. lol
June 2023 was when I caved and started writing Pedro character fics on the regular.
This fandom is also unique to me. I've enjoyed many actors' work but it's not often I follow an actor (I don't even follow Jensen Ackles after Supernatural and I loved him playing Dean and think he's a great actor). Even with Pedro if there's no chance I'll like the show/movie I'll just skip it or I'll only watch the character's scenes. I'm not crazy over The Bubble, but you bet your ass I love reading Dieter fics. Same with Javi G.
What I like about fanfics in this fandom is there's a character for every story. You want to write an end of the world fanfic? Use Joel. A survival fic? (Or camping trip!) Use Frankie. A one night stand fic? Use Javier Pena (or not, that man could totally settle down in Texas). Want a grumpy grump grump male lead? Pick Pero. Want a softie to turn you to mush? Pick Javi G. Want to treat your inner dark side? Pick Dave. There's always a match out there for every fic and every person.
I'm pretty selective about my fics cause I like them more canon based (at least in characterization) but even then I find a ton of fics. The best ones usually have under 1,000 notes - usually - I have found a few over 1,000 that are amazing too - but most super popular fics don't know the characters imo - it's more about what they want the character to do to them/kinky stuff rather than staying true to the character. Nothing wrong with headcanons, but I prefer it to feel like something I could picture them doing on screen. If they allowed smut on screen in detail. (I also pick fics based on my personal preferences after the fic passes the "canon test". Usually. I have a few guilty pleasures that made the characters a bit out of character).
Anyway, I've said too much. But that's my fandom story.
Thought I'd randomly give a friendship bracelet to someone on the Scout list (to be fair since I know many of you in passing) and my finger landed on your username. :)
I'm always curious about how people entered the fandom - so I'm curious to know how you did?
(I tend to get long winded when I explain my origin so don't be afraid of being detailed)
hi!! thank you 🧡🥰 I love it!
I'm kind of excited to answer! ok here come the details. I've been in fandom in general for what feels like forever -- I started reading fic when I was like 11 or 12 and discovered ffnet (I turn 37 this month). I hopped from there to livejournal to various individual ship sites (we used to do it that way before ao3, for anyone who doesn't remember) to like, yahoo groups, and back to ffnet.
Then I got a tumblr in ... 2010ish? Not this account, I created this one last October so I could be more involved in this fandom and post fics. So my other one has been around forever (yeah I was here for dashcon and everything else lmao), and I was a fan in many fandoms, but I was never a creator. I think my post with the most notes was from when I watched Hannibal and liveblogged about it (I wasn't in the Hannibal fandom, before anyone asks). I was pretty active on tumblr until the end of 2018, less active until 2022, and then I came back in a sort of chill way. I wasn't posting much, just reblogging and scrolling.
On the fic side, I got an ao3 account in 2012 after reading without an account for like a year (RIP to all those bookmarks that never were). I've been reading fic daily for like, most of my life at this point, but ao3 changed the game in such a huge way. It's weird to think back to what life was like before ao3! (as of today I have 9235 bookmarks on ao3)
Then in spring 2023 I discovered that the Pedro fandom existed. Honestly I'm sad I didn't know about it before, I feel like it would have helped me through 2020 and 2021 if I did. I read my first ever x reader fic (rough day) and then went looking for the author on tumblr. (I will admit I had a bias against x reader before I tried it myself. I think that's not abnormal for those of us who came from fandoms that didn't have it.) Then I discovered people on tumblr and discord were talking about all of the things I wanted to talk about with Din, Joel, and Pedro (Din and Joel were my entry to this fandom, despite my first fav Pedro character being Oberyn). I read some Din and Joel fics, realized how much I liked all of this, and then couldn't get the idea for Over Again out of my head. I started writing it in my notes app last April and created a side blog when I started posting it. Then in October I turned this into a full blog instead, so I could reply and interact as much as possible! (the side blog is still attached to my old blog and I use it as the updates blog now - @burntheedges-updates)
Having been in so many fandoms previously, I love that this one is sort of unique in how we follow one actor's characters rather than stick to one piece of media (or a universe). I've honestly never seen anything like it, but it's easily my favorite fandom that I've been in. It's also the first time I've written any fic at all since I was like 15.
I almost listed all of the fandoms I've ever followed/been in on tumblr but decided not to. lol I can if anyone wants to know! thank you for asking and letting me ramble. 🧡
