gooood mornin' codi I woke up way late today but I finally remembered that I was meaning to send you an ask about what your anti-pet peeves for fics are (since you did pet peeves a while ago). in more sensible terms, what are things in fics that you really like?

! g'morning snail <3<3 and omg this ask.... positive vibes! thank you for asking :'D (this got really long so i put the rest under the cut :'))

im gonna do this in the same format as last time, so same disclaimers that these are all a matter of personal preference for me and just because they're absent from a fic doesn't mean its not a good fic!! i love yall fanfic writers v v much n appreciate ur service o7

in terms of writing, i'm not really picky over grammar or spelling or punctuation errors again, as long as its intuitively understandable. the following are just along the veins of writing styles i like!

- i love love LOVE deadpan humor and snarky dialogue. characters mouthing off at each other but still in character is always my absolutely favorite thing

- actually, good dialogue in general is enough to carry even the most "overused" tropes and plot-holey fics. Characters having excellent dynamics and playing off each other's energy and generally just not talking uniformly absolutely fucks!!

- fics that have good pacing. enough said. im absolutely feral for those.

- I love really rambly writing. The kind where topics jump from different things before coming back to the main point, because I think its a really interesting sneak peak into both 'realistic' thinking processes and also the author's personality. Think something similar to Victor Hugo's writing, but a little more personal and snarky.

- Third person POVs. <3. Sometimes 2nd person if its done right, bc homestuck showed me its an excellent device for some absolutely bangin jokes

For tropes or general things i enjoy, i really really like:

- PLOTTY FICS. god. if its multi-chaptered and has a compelling plot that isn't just "defeating another baddie!" and actually puts characters in really interesting situations, SIGN ME TF UP!!! This is the reason i really liked TWYUTD and Here, Here.

- In addition to the point above, I also really like time travel fix-it fics and kid fics! (both 'x character turned into a child' and 'x ship accidentally acquire children').

- ...i also really really like canon divergence fics. like any fic that has to do with taking a path slightly different from canon?? HELL yes.

- im a. glutton for shameless tooth-rotting fluff (snail u are absolutely one of the people to blame for this omg). i love domestic fluff but also like, courting fluff. the reason i really REALLY liked Here, Here was bc of all the sappy shit bkdk did together and how smooth katsuki was. love that shit.

- OUGH enemies to lovers or rivals to lovers or meet ugly. any of these variations are GREAT as long as there is tension. I love the flirting in these fics //sighs dreamily

- self-indulgent fics where ppl make x character extremely hot. the fic doesnt even have to be about that--its just that the second i read about my comfort character (in bnha's case: deku) being perceived as pretty and badass

- mutual pining. oh god mutual pining. especially the kind where everyone else can see it nd like the only people in denial are each other

- PARENTS!! LOVING!!! THEIR KID'S!! PARTNERS!!! also just good parenting in general. i get really tired of bad parenting tropes used for backstories

for bnha specific likes?? i have quite a few

- BIG THREE BEING GOOD FRIENDS. i love it when fics have shouto, katsuki, and izuku as really close and joking with each other

- shameless everybodys-in-love-with-deku enthusiast. everyone loves him all the time. they have to.

- DAD MIGHT (bonus points if either bisexual dad might or toshinko OR both)

- class 1a being generally close, not just with each other but also with the other classes and schools. mmm thats good.

- redemption arcs or fics where the lov are just petty or slowly assimilating into like, practically harmless people. i love seeing fics where dabi and shouto argue on the phone like big brothers, or even like melancholic takes where tenko gets imprisoned but him and deku talk regularly

- MAHORO AND KATSUMA MY BELOVEDSSSS

- . tall kacchan. thats. listen i just. like it when people are tall. bonus points if also tall ochako

- DOMESTIC ROOMMATES/HERO DUO BKDK!!!! WIN TO SAVE SAVE TO WIN!!! MEDIA'S DARLINGS!!!!!!! cries ok u cant tell me they wouldnt open up a heros agency after they graduate ok? ok.

- quirkless aus except theyre all still famous whcch is absolutely why i adore 'are u dating??'

- bkdk being so aware of each other and knowing each other so well that they can basically read each others minds and practically finish each other's sentences

what’s the best song on evermore and why is it no body no crime

mbecause:

a) “kill terrible men” is a classic country trope and taylor finally doing it as a much more experienced songwriter and musician only makes it all the better because we all get a taste of that sweet sweet country vibe again. it has the combined nostalgia of the trope that really just. SKYROCKETS u back and then hearing taylor in a country style again-- double nostalgia! a lethal hit!

b) the changing meaning of “no body no crime” and “i think he did it but i just cant prove it” and “i aint letting up until the day i die” and its variations over the song. it gives a really cyclical feeling to it and makes it a FULFILLING listen!

c) haim’s harmonies just give the song such a feeling of fullness. i really really hope they become a reoccurring collab with her, and that they’ll do some more back-and-forth stuff in the future rather than keeping haim in the background. in the past taylor’s primarily done duets/back-and-forths with guys bc the majority of her songs were love songs but im hoping that now that she’s branching out more w her subjects she’ll do more stuff w women as duet partners! (if she ends up doing bonus versions of her old songs in the remasters i would LOVE some of her old songs as duets w other women, specifically fifteen, never grow up, and mean. (also if she wants to bring the chicks back for her old songs about her mom... i would sob.)

d) THE HARMONICA. i worship at the harmonica altar. (quick harmonica background: my grandpa is actually a harmonica player and i grew up listening to him playing in blues clubs and w different bands so every time i hear a harmonica it just makes me. instantly nostalgic. yes i love betty why do you ask)

e) its just. so fucking badass. i actually cackled out loud the first time i heard “good thing my daddy made me get a boating license when i was fifteen” because it just. thrilled me.

it also.. hmm. how do i put this. this album has speak now energy. part of it comes from what feels like the continuation of a lot of themes and motifs from speak now (panting blue skies gray, magic/enchantment, infatuation, relationships in which you’re left behind or not valued, wistfulness for the past) and this song in particular along w tolerate it, champagne problems, dorothea, and marjorie really feels like it could be a speak now track. i envision it somewhere in the better than revenge -> innocent -> haunted cluster. part of it comes from the country vibe, part of it comes from the brutal “fuck you”-ness of it, and part of it comes from the fact that this is a track she wrote on her own like all of speak now!

and. yknow. speak now is my favorite taylor album. so that. probably has something to do with me liking this song so much.

(my favorite on this album is a highly contested spot. nbnc is in the running but i LOVE tolerate it and i think champagne problems might be like. one of my favorite songs of hers. if this makes any sense it feels like reverse “last kiss”)

anyways anybody who loved this murdery energy please go watch kesha’s “raising hell” mv. tw for abuse and murder but its my favorite music video in the past like. 5 years and people paid it no attention at all

wanted to ask for the deets on kimi ga shine and witch's heart since i'd seen you bloggin about both of em (been blockin em in case i decide to check em out)

PUTS HANDS ON TABLE. FUCK YES (i'm gonna publish this bc I'm sure other people would wanna know)

okay so both of them are (FREE, SOMEHOW?) 12-20 hour RPGmaker games, w horror elements, but aside from them both having really great original art and some bangin' music, they're not really the same.

also both have like, a decent amount of body horror/gore, but it's very pixel-art-style so if you could deal w the ze series and aitsf, which I'm assuming you specifically + many of my followers can LOL, you'll probably be okay on CWs

kimi ga shine/your turn to die:

-point and click/vn-y/trial-based death game setup; i've seen the trial portion get compared to dr a lot but after playing dr1, it's really just a lot more similar to ace attorney trials w a bit of a twist to them

-the point and click part is puzzle solving and overall feels Very 999/zero escape-y, even though it's not escape the room type of puzzles

-i know i'm comparing it to 999 and ace attorney a lot and the gameplay does share elements with them, so if you like those you'll pretty much guaranteed like yttd, but it really does have its own identity and does a ton of neat things that neither of those two games do

-there are a ton of bad ends, but there are also two branch points in the story where two different things can happen, but the game keeps going afterwards. the first of those points doesn't seem to change a ton, but the second one seems EXTREMELY major and I'm interested in seeing how it continues. and I say "seems" rather than "know," because....

-NOT CURRENTLY COMPLETE - it is Mostly done, but it's planned to be 3 chapters of 2 parts each, and chapter 3 is not quite complete yet. i would still recommend at least starting it now bc it's not really the kind of game where you can forget what happens between parts, but it does happen

witch's heart:

-not really like a vn or point and click at all, minus it being fairly text heavy - its gameplay is more of an exploration-based, sidequest fulfilling thing, with a few battles here and there (you can actually fight enemies outside of battle bc there are just random enemies walking around, but they don't trigger an actual boss fight, which is neat)

-stats are mostly irrelevant though, you can't actually level up and you can't increase stats until you get your first ending anyway

-5 characters and you play as all of them at some point! it's neat as fuck! (well technically there are more than that but. You'll see.)

-vaguely vn-ish bc it does have multiple complementary routes but that's basically it

-i won't lie the sidequest fulfilling thing is a LITTLE bit annoying after you've done it in the first two routes but each one of those segments never took me very long (like 30 min tops), and especially later on said sidequests start being relevant for the side half of the cast

-holy moly good characterization + this game is REALLY good at showing and not telling. like, seriously. there's one character who gets backstory and then her ENTIRE personality starts making retroactive sense it's incredible (also wh said lgbtq rights for real but I'm not being more specific than that)

-also not teeeechnically done bc the creator hasn't finished the specific epilogues/continuations for every single route yet, but that's more just bonus stuff from my understanding, i'm pretty sure the Main Game is 100% complete

-(pretty sure bc I haven't finished the sequel yet. Lol)

-i straight up SOBBED during a section of this game and I am not a game crier. the last game that made me cry was 999 (yes really LMAO) and that was 5 years ago. take that as you will.

YEAH SORRY THIS IS LONG I JUST WANT MORE PEOPLE TO PLAY THESE. they're both fairly accessible if you can handle pixel blood/gore and can run rpgmaker,

yeah the speed dating scene was pretty interesting. i really like in general how the face blindness is portrayed with the comical same faces. like something about that makes face blindness both understandable but subtly horrifying

I then read the draft and make changes-- rewrite scenes, take away, change dialog 4. we argue 5. and repeat till we are happy with it! 6. I start rough layouts/lettering/edit some more 7. The inspiration of the town is a mix of our experiences of small towns in Arizona and on the Navajo Rez. But also-- bc we like small towns

Still catching up: One thing I think really works with the comic is the balance between quiet, slow images and faster moving dialogue: I love when the comic slows down to linger on images. One part that I kinda liked for that reason was with Yazzie visiting Nathaniel's house and looking at the rug on the wall, the lingering look at the rug really slowed the scene in the best way. Also when Fink is wandering through empty Rocket Ridge. Such a good way to build tension, improve pacing, and draw attention to the art. So good

I went through several sketches with Fink. I knew he was tall, slender, and had a dog... much like Tin Tin and that's sorta why he looks cartoony in the beginning I think... but as the story evolved, again, I just kept pushing he design to reflect that. He is supposed to resemble a bird with his hair a bit. Sort of like a crest.

If so, who do you suspect (or have we not met them yet)? If not, do you think it has to do with the town supposedly having run-ins with the supernatural? In the most recent page we do see the supernatural, so do you think it has something to do with the body? In the background there is also Sheriff Logan, the man who discovered the body. QUESTION 4. Besides the bigger mysteries, there is a lot of small town drama going on. At the game, we meet Emma Bloom who Dawn clearly doesn’t care for. What do you think the history is between them? Does it have something to do with Logan, or is it just between them? What significance might Emma have further along? Another noteworthy character when it comes to drama is Nathaniel. Why is Nathaniel trying to obtain a gun? Is it just for protection, due to his angst, or is something else going on? Do you think this will get him in trouble with Joseph who is keen on watching him? In respects to the larger plot, what does Nathaniel’s end of the story have to do with any of the other events going on? Are there any other dramas or characters you thought were intriguing?

Natural vs. Synthetic vs. Blend

Latex dates back as far as the fourth century BC. But of course, that is the true article, the real deal. Synthetic rubber, in contrast, dates back to the early part of the last century. The demand for synthetics can be traced in a direct line to the rise of the automobile. With a sudden skyrocketing increase in demand, natural sources could not keep up. The Bayer laboratory (the same people who worked on aspirin) succeeded in the polymerization of isoprene in 1909.

Now, when you are considering the best latex mattresses, you might be thinking about the differences between synthetic and natural, or whether you should split the difference and go with a blend. When we talk about latex, it is going to either be all-natural rubber, or a synthetic, or a mashup of those two types. When it comes to natural rubber, it is harvested by a method that is a lot like tapping and extracting sap for maple syrup. Synthetic rubber is, of course, a man-made creation. And as you might expect, a blend is just these two types put together.

The most significant upside to synthetics is the price. However, they can have a rather strong rubbery smell, particularly in the first few days, so keep that in mind. However, naturals are not going to have that problem. In addition, an organic commodity is, by definition, a greener and more ecologically friendly solution. However, the price differential is a rather significant one. For a natural product, you are looking at a price point difference which could easily be close to twice that for a man-made item.

However, as with other commodities which are purchased and are intended to last for a meaningful amount of time, a natural polymer is going to stand you in good stead for many years to come.

An organic solution is also preferable when it comes to the possibility of customization. During manufacture, you can specify the firmness level, even for each side. Therefore, if your partner prefers more lumbar support, then he or she can get it – and you are not going to have to compromise if you do not need it. Without compromises, both of you can get a better night’s sleep. And that is a recipe for a far better morning.

And be sure to keep in mind – it cannot be considered to be truly organic or natural unless it really is. Therefore, check the component materials closely. You do not want to be paying premium prices for a fully organic article when it turns out it is only partly organic!

In addition, it is not just the fact that it is organic that makes it a more eco-friendly solution. It is also natural rubber’s not so secret weapon – durability. A lasting product of any sort is a direct counter to our often throwaway culture, and your bedding is no exception when it comes to trying to save the planet. Hence if your organic purchase lasts as long as two or maybe even three iterations of a not-so organic version, that can only mean one thing: fewer materials ending up in landfills.

Talalay vs. Dunlop Latex

Synthetics can also be split into two species of polymer.

Dunlop – Dunlop came first, so let’s look at it before we get to Talalay. In the Dunlop process, much like for any rubber manufacture, the first step is to tap rubber trees and gather liquid latex. The collected material is then whipped up and placed into a mold. After that, the contents of the mold are heated inside a hot oven. When this part of the process is completed, the transformed latex is then cleaned. As a side benefit, any moisture within the material is released through the heating part of the process. The advantage to this process is that the mold is filled completely, thereby resulting in the creation of one larger, continuous piece. This causes some of the material to settle at the bottom of the mold. The advantage to that is the firmer feel on one side, while the disadvantage is nearly the same thing, that the firmness is inconsistent. Dunlop process material has a good bounce to it.

Talalay – Talalay differs from Dunlop in that only some latex is poured into the mold. This allows for expansion of the latex. The next step is to extract the air. This results in a configuration with an open-cell structure, and then small pathways have a cooling effect. Then the latex is flash-frozen and split into multiple sections. These individual pieces are then glued together for the express purpose of making the final form. The Talalay process results in a bouncy product which stays cool. It responds well to pressure and the look, feel, and performance are all consistent. With this process, the rubber will re-form quickly once pressure is removed. That is, it will bounce back.

So, which process is better? Talalay can have seams. Dunlop can have inconsistencies. Dunlop tends to feel firmer, whereas Talalay tends to feel softer. As with many choices, it pays to experience both and see for yourself how you feel about them. Both are durable, and both can be made either completely naturally or synthetically or in a combination.

Latex vs. Memory Foam

You have, without a doubt, heard of memory foam and you have very likely seen advertisements for it.

It seemed to have had great promise. But the truth is; this foam simply does not have the bounce and responsiveness that you can quite literally see and experience with this material. Its biggest positive is that it can conform well to your body. However, it conforms so well that it just does not spring back as fast as many of us would like.

Another big advantage to latex over memory foam is the smell situation. The properties of the former can offset and minimize offensive odors and off-gassing (sometimes called outgassing, off-gassing is when a trapped vapor is released from its confines, such as in bedding). As a result, organic latex can be a great option for sleepers sensitive to and bothered by strong aromas.

Memory foam is also a synthetic; there simply can’t be an organic option there.

Pros and Cons of Latex

No solution can ever be 100% perfect, so let’s look at some of the benefits and drawbacks to latex.

Probably the most compelling benefit is comfort. After all, that is why you are buying a mattress in the first place, now, isn’t it? This type of mattress will conform well to your body’s contours while, at the same time, bouncing back into shape once the pressure is off and you roll over or get up.

Another positive is the cooling effects of a mattress. If you wake up hot, or you are not able to get to sleep because you are too warm, a latex product will minimize that discomfort if not outright eliminate it.

A great plus to this material is also the fact that it is inhospitable to dust mites, mildew, and mold. If you have an allergy sufferer in the family, that will help them breathe easier and get a far better night’s sleep.

A disadvantage – or, to be more precise, a tradeoff – comes down to synthetics and blends as opposed to natural materials. A natural product will be considerably more ecologically responsible. However, the costs are higher, and they can be prohibitively so for some households. As a result, you will need to choose between the cost of a synthetic (or blend) and the green quality of an organic.

A finally tradeoff when it comes to latex centers on aromas – a synthetic will have a stronger smell, particularly for the first few days, whereas a natural mattress will not. As a result, you will need to make a choice here, too.

Should I even consider this type of mattress?

As with many things in life, perform your own personal cost-benefit analysis. And that’s not just with reference to price (although that should be a part of most people’s decisions), but more regarding just what you really need in a bed. If you sleep hot, then latex can truly help you with that problem. If you have a sleeping partner – and, in particular, the two of you have differing requirements – then the versatility and customization options with this bed type should be your deciding factors. Or maybe you have pressure point issues which cause you pain. If you do, then latex can be your solution.

And finally, if you are in the market for a green and ecologically responsible solution, latex is a no-brainer, particularly when compared to memory foam.

This one is the best latex alternative and has what is referred to as TitanFlex Foam. This is a synthetic. The 10 inch mattress layering consists of two inches of Talalay Latex as certified by Oeko-Tex 2015 and two inches of Dunlop Latex which serves as a transition from latex to the core layer, which is six inches of convoluted high density polyurethane foam called TitanFlex™ foam. TitanFlex is a hyper-elastic HD foam with immediate response technology and increased durability. TitanFlex™ is supposed to be more durable than latex. This product also features TitaniumGel™ which is claimed to be have been tested and proven to sleep cooler than latex.

Consumers reported that the firm was too firm for side sleepers. Customer service was reportedly very good and not pushy or high pressure. The product decompressed quickly (only a few hours) and there was no outgassing although there was a slight latex smell upon initial unwrapping. There were also some issues of heat retention although not as significant as with memory foam mattresses.
