Updated January 8th, 2018 – We have updated this page based on consumer feedback we received during the last year.
Do you think that children deserve the best possible care and products we can afford?
One of the most important things in the healthy development of your child is a good sleep. Proper bedding systems will allow your baby to sleep well, and provide necessary support for their spine and neck.
If you are a parent looking for the ultimate crib mattress for your baby or toddler, I have to admit choosing a good one is not an easy task. According to American Academy of Pediatrics many parents put their babies in unsafe sleeping conditions.
After thorough research and consulting with over 15 experts in this field we came up with a list of 6 healthy and safe cot mattresses for anyone’s budget.
If you’re in a hurry check out Safety 1st Heavenly Dreams White: It’s made with a waterproof cover and high-density memory foam which provides comfort for the child and easier maintenance and cleaning for you.

Important Things to Consider Before Buying (Buyer’s Guide)
Mattress Size
There is no right or wrong size. However, there are some state regulations. The minimum size proposed by the government are in a range between 27 5/8″ to 28 5/8″ of width and 51 3/4″ to 53″ in length. The minimum size should be 27 1/4” x 51 5/8” and the bedding shouldn’t be thicker than 6 inches. The main rule is to have it fit the crib snug or moderately snug. The depth differs between 5 to 6 inches for coil crib type and 4 to 6 inches for foam-based products. Generally, If the gap is more than two fingers, the mattress is too small.
Choose the Material Wisely
A well-designed mattress will not only make your baby’s sleep more comfortable but will also give support for healthy spine development. The material is one of the most important aspects you should consider. Try to find a long-term, comfortable bed since your child will probably sleep in a crib until it turns three. A mutual opinion on whether a foam or innerspring type is better for the baby doesn’t exist so you should carefully research before you buy.
You should decide whether you want a firm one which will provide support, a memory foam which will provide comfort or as we may suggest that the truth can be found in simple compromising. Make sure to read our complete overview of memory foam mattresses and how it works .
Soft vs. Firm
Most of the experts are of the opinion that it’s better to have a firm than a soft mattress. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the main death cause for infants in the United States of America is the SIDS – Sudden infant death syndrome.
This syndrome is caused by suffocation hazards which are a consequence of a soft sleeping surface. The bedding should snap back when you press it on the center and the thresholds. It shouldn’t conform to the baby’s head shape. The bed should be resilient enough to regain its shape quickly after applying hand pressure on it.
There are however various types which have two level of firmness foam. One soft for the toddlers and a firm one for infants. As far as infants are concerned, it’s safer to go with the firm rather than soft.
Is It Waterproof
It might be a good idea to buy a waterproof mattress. A good indicator that it’s water resistant is a double or triple ticking bolstered with nylon. This kind of content will also show high resistance to being teared up or soaking other solids or liquids.
Most of the products have covers made out of cotton and you might want to buy waterproof covers instead. You should also take care of the airflow in and out. It should have venting holes which will release the odor from leaking diapers.
Compliance Standards
Crib mattresses must pass certain standard requirements in order to be sold on the market in the United States. First of all, there are safety standards which are defined by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the American Society for Testing and Materials. The US Federal government has regulations for cot bed standard sizes taken care of under the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA).
As far as the eco-friendly beds are concerned, there are many manufacturers who claim that their products are indeed friendly and safe for the environment. However, you should check if they have a certification called Oeko-Tex Standard 100. This is a globally accepted certification which guarantees that there were no flame retardants or heavy metals utilized during the production.
Price Range
When it comes to buying a good baby cot mattress, you might want to try bargaining but you should also know that buying an overpriced one won’t do you any good. The price is normally a good indicator of quality, but there are other important aspects you should look into.
According to numerous customers, a high product will probably cost you between $90 and $350. Speaking of organic, they have a price tag somewhere between $80 and 400$.
Types of Crib Mattresses
1. FOAM
Foam based products are the most lightweight of all. There are various types in terms of thickness, in the range between 3 and 6 inches. You should consider only the firm because soft ones have proven to be a safety risk. A good thing about this type is that it’s easy to check how it conforms to child’s head or if it will stay firm as it should be. Apply pressure in the center and on the edges and if it regains its position quickly, it’s good. Another characteristic you should look for is the foam density. You can assess it by seeing the weight difference between the models or by trying to put your palms together while having the mattress between your hands. If it has good density, you won’t be able to squeeze it and touch your palms.
2. INNERSPRING
Innerspring type is the most popular among parents because of their firmness and reliability. Customer’s logic lies in the fact that most of them are sleeping on innerspring mattresses as well. These mattresses provide support with coils which are placed in a specific pattern scheme. The price of these are usually higher than for the foam ones, but the cost varies depending on the model. They contain an insulator pad which is, among other parts, a crucial component to protect the baby from coils. It also weighs more because of their content, but they are more durable in the middle where the child usually sleeps. However, there are some flaws. They have a vinyl covering which tends to crack or tear over time.
3. ORGANIC
This type of mattresses can be made of cotton, wool, natural latex, etc. This kind is considered to be the safest because they don’t contain flame retardants, vinyl or polyurethane foam. Studies show that these chemicals release toxic gases which may harm your newborn. Other users suggest that non-organic latex may be a cause for allergies. “Breathable” beddings are formed of materials which allow your baby to breathe even when your infant has her or his face pressed against the sleep surface. However, this matter hasn’t been investigated thoroughly enough and the high price tag.
Foam vs. Innerspring
Foam mattresses are made of polyurethane and consequently weighs less. This may be important when you lift it while changing your baby’s diapers. However, spring beds are the most popular choice due to their firmness, and you do not have to worry if it contains any chemicals.
As far as the price is concerned, they are almost the same. For a price tag between $90 and $250, you can get a good product. The size is regulated by law so there shouldn’t be many differences there. Although there are a few distinctions between these two, both are considered to be equally good, and you should decide which one to choose depending on your preferences. Whichever you prefer, make sure that they are firm enough and pick the model which will be the safest for your newborn child or a toddler.
Organic vs. Non-Organic
Organic cot mattresses are becoming globally popular because they are mainly focused on keeping your child safe from various hazardous materials. Although this topic hasn’t been researched to its fullest, people who are pro-organic consider that non-organic products put your child in jeopardy and to contain materials such as polyester fabric, vinyl or petrochemical foams. These materials can cause respiratory allergies, or have a bad influence on your child.
Different fire retardants and cheap glues used in non-organic ones are said to be a potential danger to your child’s safety. On the other hand, many people don’t believe that organic types are so much safer than non-organic. After all, the majority are eco-friendly nonetheless. You should be careful not to overpay and check the product characteristics to see whether it’s “really organic”.
Baby Crib Mattress Reviews – Best By Type
Safety 1st Heavenly Dreams White Crib – Great for Infants
One of the main aspects which made us choose Heavenly Dreams White Crib was its resilience. Because you’ll be placing an infant inside the crib, the mattress will often have stains and odor which won’t stay there for long. It has remarkable venting alongside with a waterproof cover on it. Leaking diapers aren’t an issue anymore.
It’s firm and stable and would be a perfect choice for your infant. It has high-density and high-quality memory foam which will bring your child comfort all night long. One minor issue of this bed is that there are no springs inside it. However, the bed is so firm that you won’t know this until you check the characteristics. The manufacturer managed to make a firm, springless bed for infants and deserves to be on this list for sure.

Simmons Kids Beautyrest Beginnings Sleepy Whispers – Ideal For a Newborn
A dual mattress which means it has a side for a newborn child and another one for a toddler. We consider it an ideal cot bed for a newborn child because firmness and comfort are its primary qualities. Another trait is that it has no chemical smell which may cause allergic reactions to a newborn, sensitive child. It is a bit heavy which proves that it’s stable and firm. The manufacturers also made sure that the venting was in order. There are 2 vents on each side.
It is priced a bit higher, but just the aspect of dual firmness is something which points to the fact that you’ll be using this product for years. If you want your newborn child to have firm and secure support, this is the right choice for you.

Dream On Me Spring Crib and Toddler Bed – Ideal for Toddlers
One of the main features is that it’s covered with a waterproof coating which ensures that your child wetting the bed won’t leave a long-lasting effect on it. Our research has shown that babies fall asleep quickly and wake up rather fresh. What better recommendation could you ask for?
Compactness and the comfort this product has to offer are its highest qualities. This crib side, however, doesn’t respond so well to the pressure of a child jumping on it, it’s not advisable to use it as a trampoline. This being the only flaw of this mattress makes it a perfect place for an infant to sleep. The toddler side is much more stable and even though we wouldn’t recommend it, your child could give it a go.

Kolcraft Cozy Soft Portable – Great for Tummy Sleepers
Cozy Soft Portable Crib from Kolcraft is our first choice for tummy sleepers. The main concern here is support. When your child sleeps on its stomach, the pressure builds up in their body which can consequently bring back pain and discomfort.
This mattress has a firmness just the way tummy sleepers need it. Not very firm, but not soft at the same time. This above medium level of firmness will release your child from the risk of back pain. It doesn’t have coils, but a thick layer of memory foam does the trick and proves to be very comfortable.
This bed may be too soft for newborns, but it’s a perfect match for tummy sleepers.

Milliard Hypoallergenic – Good for Flat Head
The memory foam construction is just the right firmness to provide optimal comfort. It is a perfect fit for the standard crib, and it doesn’t leave any space on the edges.
CertiPUR certification is a guarantee this bed won’t lose its shape even after years of usage. It also doesn’t have any chemicals inside and is completely organic. For safety precautions, no flame retardants are present.
A growing issue nowadays is the Flat Head Syndrome which is caused by inadequate support for the baby’s head. If you need a bed that can improve your child’s head shape, you might want to pick this one.

Sealy Soybean Foam-Core – Perfect Cot w/o Chemicals
Many parents are turning to products without chemicals, and for a good reason. Sealy Soybean Foam-Core is the one we would recommend when it comes to organic baby mattresses. One of the main traits of this mattress is that it is very firm and lightweight at the same time.
The secret is that it is made out of soybean oils provided directly by the US farmers. Another important aspect is that it is waterproof and has a stain resistant cover which makes it very practical. On top of all that, it has a Greenguard certificate for ensuring that the baby’s environment is healthy and a safe space.
Due to the soybean organic material, it may sag a bit over time, but that’s a reasonable price to pay for getting bedding which won’t emit chemicals into your baby’s room.

Products You Should Avoid
One of the products we would advise you to avoid is Premium Foam Crib from Graco.
If looking only at the characteristics of this product, there doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with it. The mattress has three layers, quality foam and the fabric is allegedly waterproof. However, what the manufacturer didn’t tell you is that the mattress won’t decompress fully and this is an astonishing mistake. This may not be a problem if you intended it for a dog, but for a baby, the quality standards are much higher. A bedding that won’t inflate is an enormous safety issue. We should also mention the voice of unsatisfied customers many of which said that it doesn’t cover their crib fully because it doesn’t expand to its full width. All in all, you should really try to avoid purchasing this product.
Another one is Abbyson Living 7-Inch Kid’s Dream Bliss.
You won’t see much by looking at the characteristics of this product because it seems like a regular memory foam mattress. Instead, many disappointed customers can confirm that this product simply doesn’t justify its price tag. It is the proof that a high price won’t necessarily bring you quality. It’s much firmer than it should be and it retains a lot of heat which will make your toddler uncomfortable. On the plus side, the bed really is eco-friendly because its memory foam is resistant to dust mites. However, for such a high price, you can certainly find a better choice for your child. A choice that won’t break your bank and carry many suspicious traits along the way.
Frequently Asked Questions and Concerns
1. Which organic crib mattress is best?
First of all, you must define the term organic because you’ll find many wrong labeling.
You must make sure that it doesn’t have materials such as vinyl covering. Your baby’s safety may have a hazardous effect. Among other things you should look for in an organic bed is the CertiPUR-US certified label. Even though some mattresses have polyurethane foam in them, if they have this label, they may be called organic and are ultimately safe for your child. For the product to be called organic, all fibers used for making it must be natural. Read all the labels thoroughly and ensure that everything is genuine because most of the manufacturer’s instructions are deceiving.
If you’d like to learn more we recommend reading our full organic crib guide.
2. Are crib and toddler mattress the same size?
The short answer to this question is yes. Infant mattresses usually have dual firmness. One side for a newborn and one for a toddler, depending on the firmness.
3. When to move cot mattress down?
This question doesn’t have an exact answer. The general opinion is that it should be done when the baby is from six to nine months old. Some parents dropped the bedding when the kid learned to stand up by himself. Others rely on their feeling and move the cot mattress when they feel their kid has grown enough for it. Our advice would be to move it when your kid is 6 months old.
4. What is a baby bed mattress pad cover?
A base pad, topper or an underpad is a material, mostly made from foam, which is meant to be placed on top of the bedding. Its purpose is to provide comfort and a warm feeling. This may be useful if you don’t have money for a new product but it’s not a worthwhile solution. Another use for these pads is a ‘safety waterproof layer’ between your mattress and leaking diapers. They have 100% waterproof absorbency in order to keep your baby safe and dry. These covers often have a venting system to enable airflow. Some of the best types of pads are viscoelastic foam toppers, memory foam toppers, and electric pads.
5. How thick should be a mattress for a newborn?
The thickness or the depth of standard cribs are regulated by US laws. It shouldn’t be thicker than 6 inches top to bottom when it’s laid out flat.
Conclusion
Obviously, buying a kids mattress isn’t the easiest task, and this review has tried to bring all the things you should consider closer to you. Although it may look like a simple review, hours and hours are put into research to find the products with best features. Researching an endless number of products, we found 6 most suitable for you, as people who care about their baby’s safety and comfort the most. We also found two that should be neglected.
Even though those two choices won’t seem too bad by their characteristics, a team of reviewers decided to advise against purchasing them for previously mentioned reasons. While there is an abundance of cheap, used up crib mattresses on the market, you should think whether you want your child to have a safe mattress.
You should always do your research, stay within your budget but keep in mind that a quality baby mattress isn’t an area where you would want to save money. We hope this review has helped you and we wish you and your children a good night’s sleep.

If these are struggles that you have to deal with regularly, don’t worry too much – it’s something common, and most of us have to deal with them as well. Luckily for you, there is a convenient solution.

Nevertheless, the market is overly saturated with futon beds, and this only makes it harder for you to decide which mattress to go with. Futon Mattress Buying Considerations
Purpose
Right off the bat, you ought to account for how often you or your guests may need to sleep on the futon. In case you have the need to use it on occasion just as a guest bed, you can consider getting a cheap soft made out of less expensive materials such as a cotton-filled one.
On the other hand, if you plan to use it every night as your regular bed because you have to leave the kids sleep in the bedroom, you ought to consider a high-quality, reliable, coil-filled futon bed with the proper structure and comfort.
Keep in mind that sleeping on a mattress which is not fit for your posture is capable of causing some serious deformations and consequential issues. The last thing you’d want is to get a back misalignment just because you failed to spend a few dollars more on a reliable and high-quality mattress.
Aesthetics
When it comes to your futon bed, you’d also want to think about the way you want it to appear. Don’t forget that as much as you’d want for it to be incredibly comfortable, you also have to think about its appearance.
Even though coil-filled futon mattresses are usually regarded as particularly comfortable, they are much likely to lose a lot of their shape as time passes.
On the other hand, memory foam futon beds are going to hold and maintain their shape for a substantially longer period. Additionally, the latter is better for futons which are commonly used as couches.
Comfort
It goes without saying that comfort is just about the most important thing that you’d want to look forward to when picking your futon mattress. Remember, though, that comfort is not just about sleeping well but also about sitting comfortably as well. This is not a regular bed – it’s a futon, so it has to serve a dual purpose.
Make sure that you get a bed which is going to be comfortable not only for sleeping but for sitting. The materials which are used to craft the solution are ultimately going to determine the comfort that you get from it.
Thickness
The type of futon that you have alongside its overall structure would determine the thickness of the mattress.
While it’s true that a sleek and thin futon mattress will look better than a bulky one, you might have to go for a thicker option if your sofa bed is made out of wood, for instance. The mattress needs to match the structure in order to make sure that you get a comfortable sleeping solution.
So, for instance, a futon mattress which is about 8 inches thick will offer quite a lot more comfort for an adult sleeper in comparison to a six-inches thick one. Additional consideration to account for here is the weight of the person who will usually sleep on it – the heavier he is, the thicker the mattress needs to be.
Number of Folds
You will either get a bi-fold or a tri-fold mattress. If it is bi-fold, it is going to fold just once in two separate pieces. If it is a tri-fold, it will fold twice into three separate pieces.
The number of folds is solely dependent on the type of frame that you have. With this in mind, it’s important to check with the manufacturer to determine whether you need a tri-fold or a bi-fold unit. If you are replacing an existing bed, simply check the folds that you have currently and purchase a unit accordingly – it’s as simple as that.
The Frame Matters
As we’ve mentioned above, the frame has a serious impact on the type of mattress that you will get. The quality of the latter should match that of the former. There is absolutely no point in investing in an expensive frame only to top it with a budget futon bed and vice versa.
For example, if you have a wooden frame and you plan to have your futon for a longer period of time, you should make sure that your mattress matches your intentions.
On the other hand, if you are looking for a solution that you are unlikely to use for more than a few years, you can afford to purchase something cheaper. This is where wood composite or particle board frames are particularly useful and you can pair them with a bed which is less expensive and of lower quality.
Durability
The durability of the bed is mainly determined by the materials which are used to create it. As a general rule of thumb, you ought to go for a futon mattress which is made up of materials which will last longer while also providing you with the necessary comfort and convenience.
Additionally, you also want to take a look at the warranty periods. This is going to show you the approximate amount of time that the manufacturer thinks the mattress will last without manifesting any issues.
However, it is also important to understand that if you want your bed to last longer, you ought to make sure that it is properly taken care of.
Size
The size of your mattress would be solely determined by the size of the frame. There is nothing specific here – just make sure that the former matches the latter perfectly.
Should You Buy a Futon Pad?
A futon pad is a cover that you put on top of your mattress to make it more comfortable. There are a few things that you might want to account for here. Right off the bat, this is something which will significantly prolong the life of your mattress as it is going to protect it tremendously. Therefore, you will save quite a lot of money on amortization.
On the other hand, adding another layer on top of your existing mattress makes the entire thing a lot bulkier than you’d want to. This is something that puts a lot of people off this choice, and they prefer to use a regular blanket or a slim cover or nothing at all.
A futon pad could be used to adjust the comfort of the mattress, but that’s not needed if the bed is already comfortable enough. These are the considerations you ought to account for if you are wondering whether it’s a worthwhile investment or not.
Are the Cheap Futons Worth It?
Yes and no. The thing that you want to place a lot of attention on is the purpose. If you intend to use the futon as your go-to sleeping bed because you don’t have enough room, then you should invest a proper amount of money in the mattress.
Budget futon options usually pose a compromise on some of the points mentioned above and that’s not something you should consider if you will be sleeping on this mattress every night.
On the other hand, if it’s just something that you place in your guest room to increase the number of people you can accommodate for an overnight stay, a cheap futon bed sounds like an excellent idea.

It’s made out of high-quality foam and microfiber
Pocket-coil construction for enhancing comfort
CONS
The appearance could be better
It folds oddly when put on the futon
Final Thoughts
As you can see, the lack of necessary room in your house doesn’t mean that you can’t make it work. Taking advantage of a convenient and comfortable memory foam futon mattress is an inexpensive way to add some additional sleeping space without a lot of hassle.
All of the products mentioned above are worthwhile, and even though they are all quite cheap in comparison to the premiums, they offer a significant amount of comfort, support, and appropriate aesthetics.
If pressed, we’d have to give a slight edge to the Serta Sycamore Double Sided simply because it provides a lot of value and quality for your money. All of the others are just as good, though, so anyone of the above would be an excellent choice.

What’s the Best Time of Year to Buy a Bed in 2018?
You may think that buying a mattress isn’t really predicated on the time of the year and that you could do it whenever you want. Well, while you most certainly can, it’s far more beneficial if you took some of the following advice into account.
The time of the year has a significant impact on your purchase, and it’s going to affect one of the most decisive factors – the price. If we have to be entirely straightforward, you shouldn’t buy a mattress unless it’s heavily discounted.
And, with this in mind, if you know when do beds go on sale, you’d be able to save quite a lot.
With this in mind, we’ll walk you through some important considerations that you might want to account for and, hopefully, they will help you spend a significant amount of money that you could spend on something more pressing. Let’s have a look.
Brick & Mortar vs. Online
Online – Lower Prices
It seems like everything is being sold online these days. The larger manufacturers, as well as some smaller players on the market have already established prominent online platforms to ensure that they are as close to the customer as they can.
This brings quite a lot of perks. Due to the cutting competition, the prices online are usually lower than those in the brick & mortar venue. The reasons are quite simple – companies compete with worldwide distributors online while at their brick & mortar shop they only compete on a local level.
Let’s face it – you are unlikely to travel to another city, let alone country, to pick up your mattress.
Being online, however, allows you to order it from the other part of the world and have it shipped directly to your doorstep. This is something significant to account for. Additionally, companies can save money from the fact that they don’t have to rent shops to exhibit the mattresses and personnel to work there, which allows them to make larger discounts.
Physical Store – Try The Bed
An old-school brick & mortar venue is still the preferred option for a lot of people and there is only one serious reason for that. This is the fact that you’d be able to conveniently try out the mattress before you buy it. You will be given a chance to lay down, feel the sensation and decide whether it’s your mattress or not – it’s as simple as that.
On the other hand, the company needs to either rent or build the shop and to employ all those kind people who are showing you around. This adds up to the expenses and, hence, you are likely to have a little bit more than you would if you had ordered the mattress online.

Average Cost of a Mattress
This is a common question, but there is no one-off answer. There are different types of mattresses which range in prices depending on a tremendous amount of factors. However, let’s give it a go and try to break it down.
A quality spring mattress, for example, would cost around $900 on average. However, the prices range between $500 and $2000.
On the other hand, a memory foam bed is going to average a price tag of $1000. Once again, though, the price starts from about $300 and ends up to $4000 and even more. You can apparently find something according to your personalized budget.
The most expensive type is latex. They average a price of $1650. The entry point here is higher, hence the elevated average price. They would start as low as $750 and go to as much as $4000 and more. (See our top latex mattresses)
The factors are different, and they include the material, thickness, firmness, softness, comfort, support, warranty, reliability, and, of course, the brand itself.
Best Month to Buy a New Bed
May is the Best
May is truly the best month to purchase your mattress, and the reason for that is fairly simple. The industry, as a whole, usually rolls out the new products in June and they are hot throughout September.
So, when May comes, the companies want to clean out their older models. This is something convenient, and if you follow this pattern, you might truly get some good deals which would substantially discount the price of the bed. Keep this in mind.
American Holidays
The weekend of Memorial Day might as well be the best time to get your mattress. This is because it combines two discounting factors – the month of May, as we’ve already established, as well as the holiday weekends.
At the same time, national holidays such as Labor Day, Fourth of July, President’s Day and others of the kind, tend to be particularly good times to purchase your mattress as retailers tend to have rather good deals. You might even get a good deal on Martin Luther King Day and the weekend.
Online Deals
Cyber Monday
Cyber Monday, as well as Black Friday, are traditionally the busiest days of the year for online retailers. Cyber Monday is the first Monday right after Thanksgiving, and it’s a popular day for serious discounts.
If there is a time to get a great deal, it’s then. Sit on your laptop, pack up all the patients in the world and wait for the hot deals which are ready for the taking.
Amazon Prime Day
Amazon Prime Day is an event exclusively made for Prime members. First, it was made to celebrate Amazon’s 20th birthday in 2015, and it has been a massive success for this company, so they decided to keep it and announce it every year. This is a one-day ONLY global event, and it’s the best place to buy a mattress online, for your home. You can find a lot of great deals on that day, so prepare yourself for that day and find the bed of your dreams.
Overstock Sales
Overstock sales are a great option to find some serious discounts. You can look for those online or ask around to find out whether or not some local mattress shops are offering something of the kind. Keep in mind that this is a great way to purchase a premium-quality solution for a price which is far less than the actual one.
Find Stores That Are Closing
Another great strategy is to look for stores which are closing. They would usually rush to sell everything they can to minimize their losses or to clear inventory to hit another location or to close for good. In both cases, final sales are an excellent source of serious discounts that you ought to account for.
Should You Buy a Used mattress
Unlike purchasing used appliances, for instance, you shouldn’t buy a used mattress. In fact, it’s one of those items that would certainly be up on the list of things that you should only buy brand new. You don’t want a mattress filled with bed bugs as this is a common issue.
On the other hand, your hygiene should always be a top priority. And, even though you could, in fact, steam clean it, you would still know that someone else had slept in your bed long before you ever did.
Conclusion
There is a tremendous amount of different opportunities that you can take advantage of to purchase a great mattress for a seriously discounted price.
Take a look at all of the above and pick the one which serves you best. In fact, you could go through all of the options and find the deal that’s saving you the most money.

Are you a hot-head at night? Do you wake up feeling unrefreshed or with a sore neck or shoulders? According to a study published by the National Institute of Health, over 50% of participants reported poor sleep quality when using their own pillow.
That means that as many as 50% of Americans might be sleeping on the wrong pillow. Are you one of them?
It’s not easy to find the right cushion to sleep on. You want something that is comfortable, and that offers excellent support. In this article, we review the Iso-Cool Memory Foam Pillow to see if it lives up to its promise.
Get One Today: Check Pricing & Availability
Want to view more options? Be sure to check out our Top Pillow picks for 2018.
Construction
The filling is made up of Visco-elastic memory foam (see more options). This is a more responsive type that offers a convenient blend of comfort and support. The design makes this highly breathable and comfortable. It is a good quality foam and hypoallergenic.
The product come in three different designs, Standard, Contour and Gusseted Side Sleeper. In each case, the foam measures 5 inches.
The foam is covered with a cotton cover that is zippered to make removal easier.
Comfort, Support, and Feel
The feel of the cover is crisp and clean, like something you would sleep on in a high-end hotel. There are three different options to choose from so you can find the shape and support level that suits you.
The support offered is on the firmer side so if you like a firmer option, this is a good alternative for you. It has very little bounce to it and holds up well under pressure. Your head is not going to sink into the pillow very far at all. If you prefer to have your head cradled deep in your cushion, this option is not going to work for you at all.
Comfort-wise, if you are used to softer models, these will take some getting used to overall. The emphasis is on firmness rather than cushiness with all of the options.
Cover
The cover is made of 100% cotton with a thread count of 300. In addition, Outlast Adaptive Comfort material has been infused into this layer.
It contains tiny PCM beads that are able to absorb heat and dissipate it or to release heat, depending on the temperature of your skin.
The combination of the cotton, the optimal thread count, and the PCM beads means that this will stay cool when your face is hot and will radiate heat back to you if your head is cold.
The technology is very responsive to heat changes in your body, and so you get to sleep at the optimal temperature in summer or winter. The cover can be taken off quickly and washed with your regular laundry, making caring for it a simple matter. It is also hypoallergenic.
Check Pricing & Availability Here
Sleeping Position
The loft of these pillows and the firmness of them make them more suitable for side sleepers. The gusseted side sleeper option maintains its height due to the design. In my opinion, this is best if you sleep on your side.
Back sleepers might find the height too high. Want to see better options for back sleepers? Click here. Stomach sleepers need to look for something different. If you would like to review options more suitable for stomach sleepers, check this post out.
The contour option is shaped to give extra support to the neck while having a deeper channel for the head to lie in. The one side is higher than the other, giving you the opportunity to choose the best height for your neck. This is perfect for side sleepers and can also be used by back sleepers.
Stomach sleepers are not likely to find this comfortable. The standard option is a more all-purpose alternative, but again, the loft makes it unsuitable for front sleepers. It may be uncomfortable for back sleepers for the same reason.
Additional Information:
100% Cotton cover made in the USA
Cooling pillow because of the unique PCM beads in the cover
The cover is easy to clean
You Will like the Iso-Cool Memory Foam Pillow if:
You are a side or back rester.
You want a higher level of support (firmer).
You slumber hot (here are more great cooling options).
You want something that has a higher loft, and that holds up over time.
You have allergies. The cover and the filling itself are hypoallergenic.
Conclusion
This is a good choice to make if you are a side-sleeper. The support and extra loft will make a huge difference in the quality of sleep you get because you are properly supported. The gusseted cover will ensure that this does not lose shape easily. The contour option is a good one if you change positions in your sleep at night.
The cotton cover and PCM beads ensure that you slumber cooler in warm weather and warmer in cold weather. The cover is easily cleaned and cared for. Overall, this is a great pillow.

What’s The Best Relaxing Music For Sleeping?
Music has long been known as something that could help you ease your mind, soothe you down and get you to sleep quicker. Can it work as an all-natural sleeping aid, though?
Have you ever thought that there might be a sound logic and reasoning behind lullabies? As it turns out, they might not just be for babies. Listening to soothing sounds to fall asleep is a thing.
Using relaxing tones is undoubtedly capable of winding you down right before you go to bed every night. What is more, it is a very common relaxation technique. Let’s take a closer look at some of the best music designed to help you sleep better.
Benefits of Listening To Melodies for Sleep
Now, we’d like to start this off by pointing out that there are no clear scientific reasons for which music can help you sleep better. It might have something to do with the proper feeling of relaxation that a really good song can have on your mind, but then again – the definition of a good song is quite subjective.
Music does help, and anyone who has tried it can attest to it. It seems to be able to have certain physical effects which are directly transmitted with falling asleep. For instance, listening to relaxing music could easily lower your heart rate and slow down your breathing, both of which are typical for the state of falling asleep. What is more, it might easily trigger the “feel-good” chemicals in your brain, easing you down and promoting a proper transition.
But is there a specific genre which could be categorized as popular for falling asleep? What’s the “good music” to rest to? Let’s find out.
Popular Sleep Music Genres
Classical Music
When you hear the term “sleeping music”, the chances are that classical music is likely to be the first thing to pop to mind. There are certain songs that are not quite appropriate. A lot of the classical melodies is exhilarating, believe it or not. The tempo is quick and rhythmic, and it makes it rather challenging to get relaxed.
That’s why you ought to pick up something slower. Songs and symphonies where the piano is the predominantly used musical instrument are undoubtedly preferred. They are capable of helping you out when it comes to passing out.
Here’s a great YouTube mix.
Contemporary Classical
The same thing goes for contemporary classical music. The thing that makes it appropriate for falling asleep hides behind the fact that it is usually slow and flowy. There are no substantial ups and downs, and the sound doesn’t allow you to get excited. That’s what you ought to be looking forward to when you’re compiling you “go to relaxing” mix.
With this said, this kind shouldn’t generate any substantial emotional reactions. Of course, this alone is quite a subjective thing to say as it would honestly depend on your current mood. You get a general idea.
Chill out and Ambient
These are quite a lot of different genres here as a chill-out music could be blues, jazz, pop, classical and whatnot. The main idea behind it is to generate an ambient environment in which you don’t get to overthink or to dwell into the memories from the day.
The only thing the sounds should make you do is to stare aimlessly at the ceiling, contemplating an awesome night of deep sleep and relaxation. This is what chill out music is capable of doing, provided you find proper hits.
Here’s a great YouTube mix.
World Music
As the name suggests, world music is known for encompassing a wide range of different styles. It’s a broad category which contains quite a lot of different artists and song types.
If you are looking for something that would help you go to bed, what you need to be looking forward to is something soothing and neutral – mostly acoustics without a lot of vocals.
Meditation music and nature sounds
This is likely to be your go-to “sleeping” genre. Meditation melodies are specifically created with this purpose in mind – to help you fall into a state which is going to help you relax. It is important to understand that nature sounds are soothing and can easily get you to a state of relaxation quickly.
Check out Headspace.com for free guided mediation sessions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can music make you fall asleep in seconds?
No – it can’t. The honest truth here is that sounds could potentially help you relax quicker. It all depends on your current state of mind and the way that you feel in general – that’s what’s important. Music can only facilitate the process, should the circumstances be right.
Can music change your brain?
A melody, in general, can’t change your brain, per say, but it can provide you with new and fresh perspectives. It can help you trigger emotions which are relevant to your mood or it could help you change the way you see things in general.
How does music affect an infant’s sleep?
As we mentioned above, lullabies do have seriously relaxing effects on your infant. But it doesn’t have to be a lullaby – any soothing sound to fall asleep would help.
Where can I find deep sleep playlist?
YouTube is the best place for you to look for different relaxation playlists. There are plenty of channels dedicated to relaxing melodies in general, and that’s what you ought to be looking forward to when it comes to it.
Conclusion
Melodies are an awesome thing that could help you in so many different regards. This is mainly because it is capable of slowing down your heart rate and making sure that you ease into a state of relaxation.
With all this being said, it is critical to understand that selecting the right songs is probably the most important thing to do. Make sure to choose something neutral, and that won’t provoke any emotional reactions. Apart from that, there’s nothing challenging to consider.

If you’re looking for a gel memory foam bed with an attractive and affordable price tag, you’ve come to the right place. With a price of about $500 for the Queen-size, Addable might turn out to be your perfect choice. One of the main reasons for this significantly discounted price is the fact that this bed company sells directly to the consumer through its online store.
It’s an awesome value and it does provide high-end quality, at least on paper. Let’s jump straight into our Addable mattress review to see if it’s right for you.
However, we are here to make sure that the bed holds up to the highest standards and that it is truly worth the money you’re paying, regardless of their decreased amount.
You will love the Addable if you:
Are looking for a great budget deal. Compared to other models of the same quality, Addable does make a serious statement.
Want great support. If you are experiencing issues with your back, this model could help you out. The mattress takes advantage of high-resilience poly foam in the support core which measures 2 PCF. This can deliver the necessary back support that you might be looking forward to.
Like traditional memory foam. If you are a fan of the convenient hug that a memory foam bed provides, this could be the solution you should consider. The entire thing is made of different types of foams, which is definitely something that you ought to take into account.
You might not like the Addable if you:
Want something more than a budget option.
Want a more responsive push-back. If you are a fan of the latex-like, springy push-back of the mattress, it might not meet your requirements (latex vs. memory foam).
Now that we’ve explained the basics, let’s move forward and take a look at the essentials of the product.
Construction/Materials
The construction of the bed is quite important for the overall comfort and general sleeping sensation that you’d experience. With this said, Addable mattress takes advantage of three layers, and each one is made of different density memory foam.
The 1st layer is the so-called comfort layer and it is made of 2 inches of 4 PCF gel infused memory foam. That’s what’s going to provide the cooling and the overall comfort. The gel is also quite responsive and it would prevent the typical trapping hug that memory foam beds tend to come with.
The 2nd layer is the one for the support. This layer is made of 1.8 PCF poly foam. It is intended to further the comfort and to introduce substantial support to your back. It also plays the role of a transitional support layer – this is going to help people who are overweight.
The 3rd layer is the foundation of the bed. This layer is made of poly base foam and it is 6 inches thick. The density is set to 2 PCF. The layer intends to deliver the core support of the bed and the additional deep compression support for your body.
As you can see, the construction takes advantage of memory foam as well as gel and it’s quite convenient.
Firmness and Support
We rate it a 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale (learn more about this rating). This is something quite convenient as it places the bed as a medium-firm solution that the majority of people tend to prefer. The gel memory foam combined with the high-density poly foam transitional second layer do a great job when it comes to providing support to your body.
Furthermore, they take away the traditional and rather bothersome hugging sensation that memory foam alone tends to deliver. In other words – you won’t have the feeling of being stuck.
What is more, overweight people can rest assured that they will be accessing the core foundation layer after the transitional one has already dampened the pressure.
This is going to increase the overall support and it would relieve the pressure points substantially. This is something that even high-quality beds have troubles handling as well.
Is it Comfortable?
Well, since comfort is one of the most subjective metrics out there, we’re going to put it this way: if you like memory foam beds, this one will truly appeal to you. If you want to be sleeping “in” the bed, instead of “on” it (as it is with innerspring mattresses), this is definitely going to feel very comfortable.
It provides a nice contour without making you feel stuck in it. This means that you will be able to move freely during the night. It is also a good fit for amorous activities as it is quite liberated. It breathes well but it does retain heat – this is probably the only drawback. If you are looking for coolness as a priority, we’d advise something else. Coolness is not a category that it excels at.
It will contour your body in a comprehensive manner which is going to enhance your own sleeping position while, at the same time, delivering the much needed and necessary support for your entire body.
This “hug” of memory foam, has been one of the most noted and important things in the mattress industry for the recent years. This is going to deliver superior sleeping capabilities and it is going to enhance your overall well-being as it would alleviate pressure from the entire body.
Check Pricing & Availability Here
To Conclude
The Addable bed is one of the best $500 solutions that you’d be able to find on the market. It provides substantial value, mainly because the bed is very affordable but it delivers serious comfort, support and overall appeal.
The bed holds up evenly with more expensive options and this is definitely one of its best suits. This is the main reason for which people tend to prefer it. After all, it’s not every day that you get to see a product with this quality at this inconsiderable price point.

Are you tired of memory foam beds that don’t quite live up to their hype? Why not try a different material altogether, like Latex? Latex is a natural product that breathes better than memory foam, and that is more responsive.
Worried about the firmness and support? According to the Mayo Clinic, the idea that you have to have a firm mattress if you suffer from back pain has been disproven. What you do need is a bed that offers the right kind of support. Latex might help you end your back ache for good.
Want to learn more about latex mattresses? Let’s have a look at one of the PlushBeds bestsellers, the Botanical Bliss, to find out if it’s right for you.
Want to explore more options? Here’s our Top Latex Beds for 2018.
Get One Today: Check Pricing & Availability
You will like the PlushBeds if:
You want a midrange firmness: If you look at reviews of other beds, you will see that most score at a six or seven out of ten. That means that they score more towards the firm side of the scale. If you want something that is more neutral regarding firmness, the Botanical Bliss is a great option. Want something firmer? PlushBeds allows you to choose the firmness level that suits you.
You want a completely natural option. With the layers being made from foam, the cover is made from cotton and a single padding layer that is 100% wool, and it is harder to get a more natural option out there.
You like a more responsive bed. Innersprings (see our full guide) can be annoying in that they jab into you, but at least they make things more interesting. Memory foam beds stop motion dead. Latex is an excellent balance between the two.
You like better support. Memory foam (learn more) is comfy, there is no denying it, but it is not always the best option for complete support. With latex, you get both pressure relief and deep contour support.
You may want to avoid the PlushBeds if:
You have a latex allergy.
You like to be able to sink into the bed.
You don’t like a bouncy bed.
You are on a very tight budget.
Construction
With PlushBeds, you can choose mattresses that range in thickness from nine inches to thirteen inches. Most companies using latex for this purpose, supplement the base layer with high-density foam because it is cheaper to do so. This is not the case with the options that we are reviewing today.
To make matters simpler, I will focus on the Botanical Bliss option. It is ten inches thick and typical of what you can expect from the company.
The Uppermost Layer (Cooling): This layer is about an inch thick and is made of Joma wool. This is a 100% natural fiber that is great for regulating temperature and drawing away excess heat.
The Second Layer (Comfort): This is three inches of Talalay Latex. This provides a layer of comfort and pressure relief.
The Base Layer (Support): This is six inches of organic latex. It provides support for the top layer and deep compression support for those who are heavier in build.
The cover is made up of 100% cotton fiber and is soft to the touch. It breathes well because it is knitted rather than woven. The knit fabric makes it easier to stretch as the mattress moves, and it provides a more breathable option than a tightly woven fabric would. The cover looks pretty basic and simple. It’s a very plain off-white color with a wave-stitch pattern.
Construction: 1" of Joma wool, 3" of Talalay latex, 6" of organic latex
Firmness, Comfort, and Support
The option that I am reviewing today scores and even five out of ten regarding firmness. This makes it one of the more neutral options on the market today.
The feel is pretty nice. You do sink into the mattress as you would if it was made out of memory foam but not as far into it. It offers excellent pressure point relief and also excellent deep contouring support. The bed is more responsive than would be the case with a normal memory foam option. This resilience helps to reinforce the feeling of support and comfort.
In terms of temperature control, this bed is tough to beat. The layer of wool breathes well and is able to absorb up to about a third of its weight in water, without actually feeling wet to the touch. It will wick away sweat and so help you to feel cooler. If humidity is a problem, this is a good solution. The other benefit of the wool is that it is naturally resistant to dust mites, is hypoallergenic and has antimicrobial properties as well.
Latex is not an option that is known to breathe well, but it does breathe better than memory foam. The additional layer of wool creates a cooling barrier between your body and the latex anyway, so cooling here is quite good.
What I liked best about it was how easily you could bounce on it. I would say that it comes a close second to a coiled spring bed in this regard.
Other Important Things to Consider
Warranty: 25-year warranty. 10 years for full-replacement and the remaining 15 at a pro-rated rate.
Trial period: 100 nights.
Dimensions: Comes in different sizes and thicknesses.
Edge Support: Not bad at all.
Price Range: The pricing is on the higher side. It’s not bad when you consider that it is an entirely natural option, though.
Shipping: Free
Weight: This mattress is heavy and fairly unwieldy. This could pose a problem when trying to get it into position.
Check Pricing & Availability Here
Final Score and Summary
Materials: 10. It’s not often that I give anything a ten out of ten but, in this case, I think I must. The mattress layers are all latex, and not a hybrid of latex and foam to cut corners. The cotton cover and wool padding lend an extra feel of luxury overall.
Durability: 9. This will last well because of the high-quality materials used.
Comfort: 8.
Support: 7 –  You don’t have to choose the Botanical Bliss, you change things up if you want more support or even less support.
Motion Transfer: 7 – The latex is more responsive, and so motion transfer is not as well-controlled.
Cooling: 8.5 – The wool layer really does a fantastic job of cooling.
Price/ Value: 8. The price is on the steep side, but the bed will last a very long time.
Company Reputation: 8 – The company has built up an excellent reputation for quality craftsmanship and excellent client service.
Overall Experience: 8.5
Overall, the price is higher than average, but I do think that this is a worthwhile buy considering that all the materials are natural. This is one product that you can feel safe purchasing, from an environmental and personal standpoint.

Top 8 Best Rated Memory Foam Pillows For 2018
This guide has been updated on January 11th, 2018.

Memory Foam v. Traditional Down Pillow
There are several reasons why so many people have opted for foam over the more traditional options. For some individuals, particularly those who sleep on their backs, feathered options may be practical, as back sleepers require minimal neck and head support. However, countless others, notably those who sleep on their sides, have found ample satisfaction after deciding to toss out the goose-down and pick up the foam.
youtube
Benefits for Side-Sleepers
For many years, pillows have been filled with duck and goose feathers that, while soft in the beginning, compress throughout the night, leaving your head to rest on a flatbed of fluff. This lack of support found with down pillows has led some traditional users to experience unsavory health complications. Specifically, for those who mainly sleep on their sides, it’s common to experience stiff necks each morning due to improper alignment of the spine. There are many side sleeper options on the market, and many of them are foam based.
The optimal position for the neck during rest is what experts call the “neutral” position. This is when that natural curve of the neck is at the perfect and comfortable angle, so as not to overly bend or compress the joints. For this ideal alignment of the neck to occur, it’s best to find one that is thick enough to allow your head to rest gently and evenly within the “neutral” position.
Benefits for Allergy Sufferers
If you have suffered from allergies for a long time and have yet to come across any form of relief, the problem may be resting beneath your head. Traditional goose-down, duck feather, and even synthetic pillows have been widely known to cause allergic reactions.
According to Ashley Woodcock, Professor of Respiratory Medicine in South Manchester, most traditional feathered pillows contain dust mites and millions of fungal spores that create miniature ecosystems within your pillows. (Source)
These tiny beings, combined with your sweat as you sleep make for a hotbed of bacterial growth that leads to problems with allergies.
As if that weren’t bad enough, Jeffrey C. May, of May Indoor Air Investigations in Cambridge, Massachusetts, postulates that, for allergy sufferers, these traditional pillows are causing severe health risks. He equates sleeping on feather filled pillows to having a life bird in your room.
He offers many solutions, such as periodically throwing your pillow in the dryer, and avoiding going to bed with wet hair. By far the most long-term and optimal solution is to opt for a safer and more hypoallergenic option, like the memory foam filled pillow.
Neck Pain Relief
The main reason to switch to a different pillow is to ease neck pain. Another reason to think about switching is that Cervicalgia is the cause of many more serious health issues over time. While this pain can be the result of many factors such as car crashes, sports injuries or genetics, using the wrong neck support for these pre-existing conditions only serves to exacerbate the problem by inflicting tension and stress on the neck and back.
It is imperative that your neck and head are elevated to a specific height when trying to alleviate neck pain. Memory foam pillows are a way for you to accomplish this because polyurethane is specifically designed to provide elevated support and a “melting in” feeling that adds to your overall comfort.
WHAT MAKES THEM SO SPECIAL?
In addition to the traditional feather offerings, there are several other styles offered that could be your answer. You’ll find that water and even buckwheat models are being sold as solutions to common ailments related to less than satisfactory pillows, neck pain or allergies. However, there are specific features and benefits found with memory foam that are unlike any of the other choices.
Motion Transfer Resistance
The most highly recognized benefit of owning a memory foam pillow is its ease of motion transfer resistance. While first receiving recognition using its counterpart, the memory foam mattress, this technology enables the cushion to essentially build a mold around your head for optimal head and neck support. This benefit is also known to lead to a reduction in snoring thanks to foam keeping the neck aligned and air passages open.
Consistent Shape Over Time
Unlike the feather filled pillows, memory foam does not lose its shape over time. There will never be a need to “fluff” this type because it is designed to, as stated before, resist motion transfer. They are made primarily from polyurethane, and material specially manufactured to keep its form for years to come, which also lends to the products longevity versus traditional ones that should be replaced roughly every 1 to 3 years.
It’s important to note, however, that (as you’ll read) some of the shredded foam choices have the propensity to lose shape gradually over time and may need some fluffing or re-shaping.
Problems With Memory Foam Pillows
While there are very few issues found by those who have purchased memory foam pillows, it’s important to consider the few problems that have been regularly highlighted by consumers.
Cost
While many traditional offerings can be purchased for a relatively inexpensive price, these are one of the most expensive options found on the market. Some can cost upwards of $100, while other neck support products such as water pillows, land at roughly the midpoint regarding pricing, ranging from $40 to $60. Ultimately, it is at the user’s discretion, the value placed on consistent, comfortable rest.
Heat Retention
Much like it’s counterpart, the memory foam mattress, this polyurethane material that’s used is known to retain heat throughout the night. Although this has been a frequent complaint in the past, there have been a few techniques outlined in recent years that aid in the cooling of memory foam.
While most tips are offered to help relieve you of the potentiality of uncomfortable heat retention of your mattress, many of them can be applied to your pillow as well.

Smell
One of the most commonly discovered issues is the unpleasant chemical smell that accompanies it for the first few days or even a couple weeks. With virtually every option on the market, this scent will imminently be an immediate deterrent. However, if you let it air out each day and practice patience, it often goes away with time.
Different Types of Memory Foam Pillows
Now that you are aware of the pros and cons, it’s good to look at the different subcategories and their unique features to determine which of these options is right for you.
Traditional
The most commonly purchased option is the traditionally shaped pillow. This version is elementary; a piece of this foam that is cut to the shape specifications of your cover.
At first glance, you’d probably dismiss it as feather filled, as it’s just a rectangle with a cover on it.
Contour
It is cut into a more specific shape, and it uniquely crafted to cradle your head at just the perfect angle. With the aim of providing ideal support for the head and neck, you’re likely to experience maximum results regarding neck pain relief.
However, this type is not favored among those sleepers who tend to move regularly throughout the night. This model is commonly only comfortable in certain positions. Those who sleep on their stomachs will find this pillow unpleasant.
Shredded
This exciting option is similar to the traditional option in that; it is shaped much like a pillow filled with feathers. However, its contents are made up of thousands of shredded pieces of memory foam that are tightly compacted together.
This option is growing to be increasingly more popular, as it’s shredded interior provides more breathability throughout the night, leading to less heat retention. Additionally, by squishing it, the loft and proportion of stuffing can be adjusted to the desired form.
Wedge
This shape and style are the most unique of the four offerings. Mostly, it is a large triangle that is made from a single slab of memory foam. While it is not primarily used in sleep situations, it has many practical applications for your health.
This is a great pillow for use when reading, while pregnant or for those with respiratory problems.
Top 8 Products Reviewed
You are now armed with a firm grasp on all things related to the memory foam pillow. This still begs the question of which one is the best choice for you long-term. Below are our eight favorite memory foam pillows on the market today, all with unique attributes for you to consider.
Iso-Cool Memory Foam Pillow
This pillow is created by SleepBetter, and employs 100% Visco-elastic foam Active Air Technology that allows for better airflow, leading to a cooler night’s sleep while still benefiting from the supportiveness of the foam.
It is a gusseted design, which means that it is made with extra material at its sides, which is meant to increase its thickness. Its form also consists of microscopic Phase Change Material beds that adjust to regulate body temperature throughout the night.
While many who purchased it in the past have thoroughly enjoyed it, many who have recently chosen this option find it to be of lesser quality than in prior years. Whether this is due to manufacturer malfunction is unknown.

Coop Home Goods
This is arguably the best-shredded option on the market. Part of their appeal is that they are extremely customizable regarding firmness and loft. This is made possible by its zippered inner casing that can be opened and filled with the desired amount of shredded foam.
The shred is made from premium grade proprietary foam blend, according to its manufacturer. What’s more, refills for these shreds are readily available, adding to its increased hypoallergenic design.
Another hypoallergenic feature is its removable cover, which makes for easy routine cleaning. Complete with its tightly woven inner case, this is one of the more allergy-friendly options you’ll find. This cover is made up of 60% polyester, 40% bamboo-derived rayon, and is intended to keep the pillow cool throughout your sleep.

There are very few foreseeable issues with this choice. One of the few complaints is that it may take a while to get used to. Being that memory foam is quite a contrast to traditional feather pillows, uncomfortableness is very common for the first week or two. However, once surpassing the threshold of the first few uses, the pillow becomes quite enjoyable.
The only other problem with this option is that it is very much unlike other memory foam options, in that it is much softer. When buying a good memory foam pillow, many tend to assume that they will be firmer. With shredded foam, however, the product is noticeably softer, but for those looking to enjoy the benefits of memory foam while still appreciating “fluff,” this is an excellent choice.

Contour Memory Foam by Elite Rest
This is the ideal choice for those who regularly sleep on their side. As previously mentioned, side sleepers should aim to rest their head in the “neutral” position, which is when the neck and spine are comfortably aligned. Elite Rest strives to excel at providing this specific support.
A significant feature of this contour pillow is its different heights at each end. At one end, it is 2.75 inches tall, and at the other end, it reached 4 inches, providing the utmost in customizable comfort for your neck and spine.
The most commonly found issue with this brand of contour pillow is its small dimensions. Many have found it to be smaller than expected and too small to fit their specific body type. Anyone who is above average in height or weight may experience dissatisfaction.

While this pillow is advertised as having medium firmness, many have noted that it is one of the softest the memory foam pillows. If you’re looking for a firmer feel, this may not be the ideal pick for you.
Conforma
This option is of the more traditional memory foam pillow and is ideal for many different sleeping habits. With a 5-inch loft, this pillow is one of the taller of its kind, make for an increasingly supporting choice for both back and side sleepers.
What is unique is its aerated memory foam design, which is created with a pattern of holes to keep your head cool while providing ventilated neck and head support. This idea of ventilation for memory foam has increasingly become one of the more important factors, and conforma has taken note with its revolutionary design.
Conforma also prides itself on its “next generation” foam, complete with cooling properties that allow for self-ventilation. This aerated design aims to dissipate body heat and allow air to travel through the material.

Dough by Z
This is an excellent option for those who often travel, as it’s a bit smaller than most of its kind, but it certainly can make for a very comfortable at home option.
It is designed with rounded edges, giving it the look of a classic feather pillow with the firm support of 100% polyurethane foam.
The outer casing consists of 75% polyester and 25% rayon from bamboo, making it yet another appealingly hypoallergenic selection.
Being that this is a mid-size option offering medium firmness, there are not very many complaints. Some people find it too big for travel, while other posture that it might be too small to sleep on. Some consider it too firm for their taste while others prefer an even firmer option.
OVERALL RATING: 8.4 out of 10

Overall, for those who travel regularly and are in need of a memory foam pillow that is smaller than the standard size, this is a great choice.
Original Bamboo Wedge
This pillow advertises to be helpful to those with several health concerns like acid reflux and back pain. It provides a slight incline to the upper back and head area.
By harnessing the force of gravity, this pillow supposedly keeps acid in your stomach, rather than coming up through the esophagus and causing acid reflux. Especially for those who are pregnant, this is touted as a life-saver (read our full buyer’s guide to pregnancy pillows).
As with many wedge pillows, there is much debate on whether this offering employs the optimal incline for a comfortable sleep. Many who purchased this pillow found the incline to be too steep while noting that the quality and firmness were supreme.

Snuggle-Pedic Ultra-Luxury Bamboo Shredded Memory Foam
The Snuggle-Pedic considers itself to be comparable to a down pillow that never goes flat. While this is the same feature among memory foam pillows, this brand has won notable favor among consumers.
Like other shredded foam selections, it offers the ability to customize height and firmness by giving you the opportunity to increase or decrease the amount of shredded foam within. The shredded foam in encased by an inner cover and further insulated by the breathable and machine washable outer cover.
This outer cover employs Snuggle-Pedic’s Ultra-Luxurious Kool-Flow Micro-Vented Bamboo Cover, that helps to increase breathability, lending to a consistently cool pillow.

The main issue that purchasers have experienced with this brand of shredded memory foam pillow is that the foam does not seem to hold shape over time. Many have noted that, after some months, a moderate amount of fluffing is needed. After throwing it in the dryer, some have found success in restoring the product to it’s original “fluffiness.”

Contour Memory Foam + Gel
This product is the most unique among top-rated memory foam pillows. It has all the benefits previously noted for the more traditional contoured style, with the potential added benefits of cooling gel top which serves to reduce heat during your sleep.
With one side of this gel memory foam pillow being 4 inches and the other side at 5 inches, this pillow is ideal for almost every side sleeper. Again, the contouring of this product allows the sleeper to experience the comfort of an aligned spine, neck and head.
The only noteworthy problem found with it is the lingering smell. While many memory foam pillows give off a chemical smell during the first few days to a week, this pillow, in particular, has a lasting stench that for many, does not seem to dissipate.

Let’s Put This To Bed
If you are a side sleeper, you may greatly benefit from the contoured style. For many who sleep on their backs or stomachs, this is not the most suitable pick
If you are pregnant or experiencing gastrointestinal or esophageal related health concerns, the wedge memory foam pillow may be ideal. However, if you find the incline or firmness displeasing, you might be better suited for a classic style or shredded memory foam pillow.
Whatever your individual sleep needs may be, there is absolutely the best memory foam pillow out there for you. If you’re still unsure, Iso-Cool is our favorite pick so make sure to check it out.

How to Choose An Air Bed
Types
One of the first things to consider related to this purchase is what type you are going to buy. Blow up mattresses have come a long way since they were all just a thin layer of air which kept your body (barely) off of the ground. Today, there are numerous models on the market, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. Deciding which type to purchase comes down to the intended use of the product, and the budget you have available for the purchase.
Many people are going to be looking for a raised mattress, as these are easier to get in and out of than one which sits low to the ground. Raised ones look quite similar to traditional mattresses once they are inflated, and they tend to be rather comfortable as well. Another option is a convertible air bed, which is one that can serve as a piece of furniture as well. This is great if you want somewhere comfortable to sit when you aren’t laying down to sleep. Self-inflatable ones have the pump built right into the product, which is a distinct advantage from a convenience standpoint. Finally, we have one with the frame and rails included that will act more like a permanent solution to your sleeping needs.
Comfort Level / Thickness
Generally speaking, the comfort level offered by a good air mattress is going to be directly related to the thickness. A thicker one will usually be more comfortable than a thinner option, as you are going to have more air underneath you throughout the night. It is common lose some of their inflation overnight – especially if the night is cool – so starting out with a thick pad of air beneath your body is the best bet. With a thin mattress, it is possible to start the night somewhat comfortable, only to wake up with your body at least partially on the ground as it has deflated.
Learn more about why blow up beds deflate.
Another comfort point to be considered is the possibility of having a different material – such as memory foam. In this case, you are using the air in the mattress to support your body weight, but you get the added comfort of material like foam. These tend to be more expensive, but they do provide a comfortable night’s sleep in most cases.
Size
Just like regular ones, inflatable beds are available in different sizes, generally ranging from Twin to King. Choosing the right sized is an important consideration and one that largely depends on your needs. Twin and Full sized beds tend to be an excellent choice for campers and single folks. Unless you have a family, there’s no reason you’re going to want a big bed for camping.
The most common is the Queen size. It’s big enough to sleep two full adults but smaller than a King; it won’t take up your entire living room, or spare bedroom. Manufacturers make Queen sized more than any other, which gives the consumer many options to choose from. Don’t worry as our top picks are listed in this buyer’s guide.
Lastly, there is the King size. If you’ve got the extra room and don’t mind paying more than what the Queen size will cost, the King is a great option. If you’re using it for guests, they will definitely be happy for the extra sleep space you gave them!
Pump / Ease of Use
Inflating can be a difficult chore – or it can be quick and easy. A pump is incredibly convenient to have for these situations. Surprisingly, some models still require the use of a hand or foot pump, which demands that you put in some sweat and effort before you can lay down for the night.
On the other hand, other mattresses come with inflating units that run electrically. Either through the use of batteries or by plugging the unit in, these make inflating your bed no problem at all.
The most significant advantage to an automatic pump is the ability to add air back into your mattress during the night. If you wake up in the middle of the night to find that it is losing air, you can pump it back up with just the flip of a switch.
This is a great convenience, and it may make the extra cost worth the investment in your mind. No one wants to manually re-inflate a bed in the middle of the night.
youtube
Air Holding Ability
Naturally, this is a critical point (read more about the study). You don’t have to think about how well your spring mattress is going to hold up over the night, but you do need to concern yourself with this feature when it is only air between you and the ground.
As was mentioned earlier, this is a point that is of particular concern when sleeping in a cold environment – such as outside while camping.
If you are camping somewhere that the nighttime temperatures are going to drop significantly, you need to make sure your mattress is going to hold as much air as possible. Cold temperatures are going to cause the air to condense, meaning there won’t be as much left to support you in the morning as there was at night.
While there isn’t much that you can do about cool temperatures, you can pick out one that is going to hold on to as much air as possible. If it has a leak or two, and you combine that problem with weather conditions, you will suddenly find yourself laying on the ground. Shop for quality products which have been well-built and designed to prevent leaks whenever possible.
We put together a guide on how to fix a leak.
Warranty / Customer Service
It is a nice bonus to buy one that comes with warranty protection of some kind. Or, at least, you should consider buying from a company which has a good reputation for reliable customer services. If something goes wrong, you don’t want to be all on your own to get it fixed and back to working order.
This is especially important with a self-inflating mattress that has a motor to consider as part of the overall product.
Of course, your coverage on these points is going to be directly related to the amount of money you invest. Buying an expensive one should return you some form of warranty protection, while you will likely be on your own if you purchase a cheap model.
In the end, you need to think about what you want to get, and how long you would like it to last. Finding a product with a good warranty provides for peace of mind, but you can be sure that you will pay for this benefit in the purchase price.
Price
It should go without saying that you are going to want to consider price along with all of the other points carefully. You are going to have to pay at least a couple hundred dollars to purchase one of more quality options. Or, you can opt for the inexpensive route, which will keep your cost way down but will also limit the comfort and features that you enjoy.
In the end, it’s all about what you want this mattress to do for you.
Just looking for something decent to set on the floor of your tent while out camping for a few days?
You can probably save money by buying an affordable model from a respected brand. Need one that you can inflate in the guest room for a week while your family is in from out of town?
You may wish to purchase a nicer model that can provide them with a better night of sleep. Think about your own needs and then set a budget for the purchase that matches up with those requirements.

Fox Air Beds Plush High Rise Mattress – Memory Foam
The comfort and support that is offered by memory foam is just a bonus. Fox Airbeds sells one of the leading products on the market with this product, which has a memory foam top above the air chamber. There are also two pillows included, along with a built-in two-way pump for inflation. While there is the pump built into the product, you also have the option of inflating with an external pump if you so choose. If you decide to purchase this product, you will have your choice of five sizes from Twin XL to California King.
While a lot is going for this mattress, there are also some complaints to recognize as well. On the positive side, some of the compliments for this product include its comfort, the ease of inflation, and the fact that you don’t bounce around when the other person moves. On the downside, there is some concern about its ability to stay fully inflated through the night. Also, the top may be challenging to deflate once it is overinflated. In all, this is one of the best products according to consumer reports and is worth consideration because of its inclusion of memory foam, but take note of the potential issues before you buy.

Insta-Bed Raised – Everyday Use
If you are in a position where you are going to be using it for an extended period, you want to make sure it’s the most comfortable air mattress you can buy. While the Insta-Bed Raised might not entirely be the same as a traditional mattress, it does have plenty of great features. It is 18″ tall, meaning you will have an easier time getting in and out of bed. Also, it has a neverFlat pump, which silently re-inflates the bed as you sleep, so you don’t wind up on the floor by the end of the night. Also, the main pump will do the job of inflating the air bed in only four minutes so that you can be set for bed quickly and easily.
Not surprisingly, it is the second pump that earns much of the praise in the reviews for this product. Buyers are impressed with the way the backup pump works to keep it inflated at night, and they also appreciate how easy it is to set up and use. For long-term accommodations, or even for guests, there is a lot to like about this option.

Coleman Airbed Cot – Camping & Backpacking
The needs for an air bed when camping or backpacking are significantly different than when setting it up in your home. When camping, your priorities are going to be a compact size, overall light weight, and ease of use. You will probably be willing to sacrifice a bit of comfort for these characteristics since you will only be spending a few nights on it. This option comes from the respected brand Coleman, and it includes a cot for sleeping up off of the cold, hard ground. The frame can support up to 600 pounds, and there are even two side tables.
There are plenty of great reviews for this Coleman product, which isn’t a surprise given the reputation that Coleman has in the camping market. Most feel that this is a comfortable option for sleeping while camping, and the included pump is appreciated as opposed to manually filling with air as usual while in the wilderness. One complaint that you will find relates to the weight of the frame, as some buyers feel it is a little too heavy. If that is not an issue for you, however, you should be pleased with this product overall.

FBSport Car Travel Inflatable Mattress – Car or SUV
Planning on spending a night or two sleeping in your vehicle? If so, you may want to pick up one that will allow you to get good sleep even in those cramped quarters. This product is designed to work in many different vehicles, including sedans, SUVs, and more. The unique aspect is a chamber of air meant to fill in the gap between the floor of the car and the surface of the mattress. This will allow you to sleep efficiently on a bigger surface than if you were trying to just sleep across the seats.
There are mixed reviews for this item from those who have purchased it previously. On the plus side, some buyers have been impressed with the way this mattress offers a comfortable place to sleep in the car. However, quality issues have been a problem for some buyers, which is not a huge surprise at this modest price point. If you need a short-term option for sleeping in the car, this item can be seen as a potential solution – but it probably should not be counted on for long-term performance.

The capacity of this bed is 600 pounds, so it should handle two adults with very little trouble. As compared to many of the similar options on the market, this is one of the most-affordable Queen-sized models you will find.
When used as intended, this is a product that has earned the praise of many buyers. Users appreciate that it is easy and quick to inflate, is comfortable and will work for out-of-town guests. However, the issue with this product seems to be durability, as there are reports of them breaking down after a period of use. That is the case with many blow up mattresses, however, as they aren’t designed for consistent performance night after night. As long as you are only looking for a mattress that will be used occasionally, this product should get the job done.

Insta-Bed EZ Bed
This unique product sits on top of a frame, elevating it slightly off of the floor. The mattress itself is 11.5″ thick, it is a Queen size, and it can be inflated in just four minutes through the use of the included pump. As with other Insta-Bed products, this model also includes the creative neverFLAT pump which keeps inflating throughout the night.
Buyers feel that this bed is a nice option for guests who will be staying in your home without a permanent bed available for the night. The comfort of this mattress is complimented, as is the bag that is used to contain the unit when it is not in use. The noise produced by the backup pump can be seen as a downside, but that shouldn’t take away from the overall performance. No buyer will mistake this product for a low-cost option, but it does have a unique design and can serve a great purpose in your home.

Intex Comfort Plush Elevated Dura-Beam
For users who have a difficult time getting down to floor level, this option from Intex is a great one to keep in mind. At 22″ thick, this is one of the tallest air mattresses you are going to find on the market. Even at that height, it comes at a reasonable price point, has a duffle bag for storage, and includes a waterproof top. The built-in pump will fill up this mattress in less than five minutes, and that same pump can deflate the mattress as well.
Past buyers of this product have a lot of positive things to say about its value and performance. Users have praised the comfort and ease of setup, as well as the price and the quality. Some users have complained about leaks, but of course, that is something that can happen to any air mattress at some point. Beyond those occasional issues, this appears to be a product you can turn to for reliable performance.

Intex Raised Downy
Another extremely tall option, this one is 22″ thick and comes with a built-in pump. Less than five minutes will be required to inflate fully, and the sides of this product have been explicitly designed to keep your sheets in place as you sleep. There is a carry bag included, which has one of the lowest price tags on the market for this type of product.
When this product is filled and working correctly, it feels fantastic. Unfortunately, there have been some quality issues reported by past buyers, so keep that in mind as you consider your options. While all of these products have the potential to leak, that problem seems to be more common with this model. With that said, considering the low price point, it is still an option to keep in mind.

WonderSleep Classic Series
If you are willing to spend north of $100, you can pick up this model from WonderSleep. A number of great features will be included for your money, such as a fast inflation/deflation pump, an array of air coils to help with the firmness of the mattress, and a flocked top for added comfort. There is a one-year warranty on this item, which includes a carry bag for storage.
Given the lofty price point, you would expect buyers to be impressed with the performance and quality of the product – and by and large, they are. Compliments include the ability to control the firmness of the mattress, the built-in pump, and the ability of the mattress to stay inflated through the night. Some users complain that it failed to hold air after a period of use, but again, that is a problem that can pop up with just about any brand or model. The WonderSleep may be on the high end of the price scale, but it is still one to watch.

Conclusion
Blow up mattresses are not the biggest purchase you are going to make in your life, but it is one that you want to get right. There are few things in life quite as important as a great night’s sleep, and picking the right one is key to getting the rest you need to be at your best during the day. Whether this mattress is going to be used by yourself or someone else, you will want to do the research necessary to pick out the right product for your requirements.
With so many options on the market today, it can be hard to settle on a specific pick. Take your time to review the information above, however, and the right choice just might make itself clear. You can not go wrong with Fox Airbed products, and I have to admit I have one at home.

Best Rated Pillows in 2018 Overall
Updated January 10th, 2018 – We have updated our list of top picks and changed the buyer’s guide to better represent our latest finding and research.
What is the world’s most comfortable pillow? Is it made of memory foam, latex or natural materials such as cotton or down feathers? Should it have low or high loft and is it suitable for all sleeping positions?
If you are asking yourself these questions, you are not alone.
In the last 12 months, we’ve spent well over $2,000 trying to find the perfect pillow for every sleeper preference, medical conditions, and needs. We researched different materials and types to present pros and cons of each, so you can decide without even visiting a store.
I’m sure that you will find an ideal bed pillow (and more) in this post in less than 10 minutes.
And I’ll mention my favorite product that I’m sleeping on right now.
Let’s start.

Great Cooling and Hug
No Smell or Off-Gassing

Nest Bedding introduced new and revamped versions of their Easy Breather pillows recently. It comes with two material choices:
Noodle natural latex – Great moldability, classic feel, and fantastic cooling. It comes with an organic cotton cover.
Shredded memory foam – Slower response time, nice hug and contouring. Sleeps a bit hotter but provides better pressure relief.
With both versions, you can adjust the height to your preference. There is no smell and off-gassing at all, and it’s made in the United States. Easy Breather is my personal favorite, even though I tested more than 30 different pillows this year.
Coop Home Goods

Machine Washable Bamboo Cover
Soft and Supportive

If you are looking for an affordable yet fantastic shredded foam pillow this product is spot on for you. Like other products with this type of filling, you can adjust it to your liking and almost flatten it completely if you prefer to sleep on your stomach.
The cover is a machine washable bamboo/polyester blend designed to regulate body temperature. It also has a nice and soft feel to it.
Tip: If the pillow is going flat, just put it in the dryer for 10 minutes, and it will be nice and fluffy again.
It comes with 30 day trial period, a five-year warranty and two sizes (Queen and King).
With thousands of reviews on Amazon, there is hardly any room for mistake. I’m sure you will enjoy it as much as I did during the testing period.
Purple
Overview:
Advanced Hyper-Elastic Material
Responsive and Cool
Inflatable Adjustable Loft
Hypoallergenic
USA based company
Check Price on Amazon
If you are familiar with Purple mattress technology, you will instantly notice the same grid with their pillow. The Hyper-Elastic polymer creates a very cool surface with good support, response and air circulation. It perfectly conforms to head and neck without losing shape.
It comes with an inflatable “booster” so you can adjust the height (loft). It can be easily removed if needed. The cover is constructed from polyester, bamboo viscose and spandex. It’s 100% machine washable, so that’s a huge plus.
You will love Purple pillow if you:
Are a back or side sleeper
Want something that’s not foam or feathers
Want exceptional cooling
Want a supportive pillow that conforms well
Malouf (Talalay Latex)
Overview:
100% Natural Talalay Latex
Fantastic Airflow and Cooling
Soft Machine Washable Bamboo Cover
Exceptional Head and Neck Support
Great Value
USA based company
Check Price on Amazon
Malouf is a premium manufacturer, and their latex pillow caught our attention around the beginning of the year. It’s built from 100% Talalay latex without any synthetic additives. It’s constructed with larger and smaller holes to conform to your neck and head perfectly and to provide better than average support. This design also helps with cooling, breathability, and airflow.
The cover is machine washable and made from a blend of rayon from bamboo and polyester. It feels very soft to touch.
This particular model comes with several firmness levels (plush, medium, firm) and loft heights (low, medium, high). This means it will fit any sleeper style.
If you want a customizable latex pillow at a fantastic value that cradles your head and provides above average support, you should consider Malouf.
Snuggle-Pedic Ultra-Luxury Bamboo
Overview:
Certipur Certified Foam
Hypoallergenic and Dust Mite resistant
Organic Bamboo cover
Multiple Sizes
Made in the United States
This particular option caught our attention due to fantastic reviews on Amazon. And I must say, it’s better than higher priced options on the market. The pillow itself is filled with shredded memory foam so you can easily adjust it and find the perfect height. The cover is made from “Kool-Flow” material as they call it and it’s intended to help with breathability and heat distribution.
Another interesting feature is that you can wash entire pillow in machine washer, but it’s difficult to dry, especially during winter. You may also need to fluff it once in a while to get it back into original shape.
Overall, if you need a pillow with organic materials and filled with shredded foam, there aren’t many options that can beat Snuggle-Pedic at this price range.
ComfyComfy (Buckwheat)
Overview:
Re-Distribute and Adjust the Loft
Ideal for Back and Side sleepers
Good breathability
Organic Cotton Cover
USA Grown Buckwheat
If you want to try something new, I would recommend this 100% USA grown buckwheat pillow from ComfyComfy (or ComfySleep). This type and material allow for much better cooling and airflow since buckwheat husks do not retain heat. But it also makes it a bit harder and not suitable for stomach sleepers, although for back and side sleeping it’s perfect and cradles to head and neck nicely. Of course, you can re-distribute the husks and adjust the loft however you like.
This model comes with an organic cotton cover. It provides a soft surface, and it’s machine washable.
The only downside I see is that active sleepers, this type creates noise which your partner won’t like.
But, for anyone who would like to try something different and completely natural and organic, try Comfy, it’s one of the best out there.
eLuxurySupply (Goose Down)
Overview:
Very soft feel
Durable
Machine washable and dryer friendly
Multiple Sizes
The USA made materials
I’ve slept on down pillows for most of my life, and I have to say nothing comes close to this model from eLuxurySupply. When you get your hands on it, you will notice it’s lightweight (2.7 pounds) and very soft. It has medium/high loft but it’s fluffy enough to mold to your head, and it will suit almost anyone. The cover is made from 100% cotton and is machine washable and dryer friendly, so maintenance is that much easier.
For anyone who wants a traditional down feel and a very soft pillow with lots of hug that’s also durable and has long lifespan, you won’t find any better than this.
Naturepedic Organic Cotton
Overview:
100% organic materials
Balanced Feel
Easy to clean
No Flame Retardants
The USA made components
Naturepedic builds all their products with organic and safe materials, and they do it so well. This particular one is made 100% from cotton grown in the US without any chemicals or flame retardants. It comes in three sizes and a toddler and flat version. It has a very balanced feel to it, not too firm or soft.
In conclusion, if you want a homegrown organic pillow that’s easy to clean, has no smell or artificial dyes and chemicals and has a balanced feel to it, you won’t be disappointed with Naturepedic.
eLuxurySupply Down Alternative
Overview:
Lightweight Polyester fill
Similar Feel to Traditional Down
Good Value
Hypoallergenic
Made in the USA
The Revoloft pillow is filled with lightweight microfiber fill (polyester), and it’s designed to mimic the feel of traditional down feather products. This makes it 100% hypoallergenic, unlike feathers who collect more dust mites and can cause allergies themselves. This type of polyester also means it’s more durable than other “alternative” types. The cover is very basic although it has a nice and soft feel to it. The loft is too high for stomach sleeping, and it’s more suited for back/side sleepers.
In the end, it’s a budget-friendly option with a medium-high loft that’s also hypoallergenic. There is no better down alternative pillow than this.
A Note on Pillow Sizes
Let’s discuss different sizes you will encounter when shopping for a new pillow. It wouldn’t make sense to purchase a King size for a toddler bed, right? Let’s take a look at these standard dimensions, but have in mind that some manufacturers have their own custom sizes.
NameSize Standard20" x 26" Super Standard20" x 28" Queen20" x 30" King20" x 36" Euro 26" x 26" 24" x 24" 22" x 22" 20" x 20" 18" x 18" 16" x 16" Body54" x 20" 48" x 20" Toddler14" x 20"
Best by Material and Type
Material plays an important role when it comes to comfort, feel and cooling properties of your pillow. There is no single “best” type. Different sleeping preferences and needs will require different materials and structure. First, let’s take a look at various foams and then, we will take a look at natural and organic options.
Different Types of Foam
Polyurethane, latex and memory foam have become some of the most popular materials in the last 15 years or so. All of them offer fantastic support, contouring as well as cooling these days with higher-end products. They come in three most common shapes that have different properties.
Shredded – The most important feature is that these pillows are adjustable and you can change the loft height until you are satisfied. It’s also much more breathable than molded. Recommended for stomach sleepers.
Molded – Offers great contouring and support and we recommend it for most people suffering from back and neck pain.
Noodle – Similar to shredded foam when it comes to breathability, and you can also adjust it. Good for all sleeping positions.
Memory Foam
For a reason, this material has become the favorite among people suffering from back or neck pain. It has a slower response time and good “hug” which means it will quickly contour to your neck and head, providing support where it’s most needed. If I had to list one negative aspect, it’s that it retains heat and sleeps hotter than other materials. But, new and improved design with gel on top can solve this problem quickly.
You will usually find these products as shredded, molded or noodle foam (or sometimes a mix).
Pros:
Pressure relief
Contouring
Cons:
Sleeps hot
Stronger smell
Our Top Picks:
Coop Home Goods Pillow
Nest Bedding Easy Breather
Learn more about memory foam pillows in our complete buyer’s guide.
Latex
You will encounter two types, natural and synthetic latex (or a blend of these two). Natural latex is extracted from tree sap and is one of the most eco-friendly materials you can find. A blend is also a great option if you are looking for less expensive products, and it still retains many qualities like hypoallergenic properties. Even though latex pillows cost more, fantastic cooling, durability and natural materials make it worthwhile.
Pros:
Natural
Eco-Friendly
Great Cooling
Cons:
More Expensive
Less hug and contouring
Our Picks:
Malouf Z Talalay Latex
NaturePedic Organic
Polyurethane Foam
If you opt for polyfoam pillows, you will notice a more balanced feel compared to memory or latex foam. It’s also the least expensive of the three. It doesn’t mean it’s the worst. It’s cooler than memory foam but still not as much as latex.
One thing to note is that it usually has a strong smell and can be less durable. But, higher tier custom poly-foam based products offer all of the benefits with none of the cons, like our selected product for this category.
Pros:
Less Expensive (in general)
Balanced feel
Good cooling
Cons:
Odor (with lower tier products)
We recommend: Bear Pillow (High-End, custom foam pillow designed for athletes and active people)
Other (Alternative) Types
Alternative pillows are created to provide a similar feel and features of natural materials at a much lower price. Obviously, the biggest downside is that these won’t last as long.
Down Alternative
Because many people suffer from down allergies, manufacturers created an alternative that provides the same feed, but they used cotton or polyester as main fill. If you are looking for better cooling, in some cases alternative pillows can retain less heat than natural down, providing much cooler sleep experience.
If you love that soft down feel, but you suffer from allergies, try one of these, and you will love it.
Pros:
Less expensive
Hypoallergenic
Cons:
Shorter Lifespan
Not as natural
We Recommend:
The Duck And Goose Co
Acanva
Polyester
Polyester provides a more traditional feel like cotton does. They have good cooling and are pretty inexpensive, but a big downside is that they have the lowest lifespan of all types. You will notice that it flattens easily and can be somewhat noisy. With all this being said, we do not recommend buying polyester products since there are many other natural options you can buy that provide a similar feel for the same amount of money.
Recommended Natural and Organic Pillow Types
Something worth noting is that organic pillows are always natural, but natural doesn’t always mean it’s organic. Let’s take a look at these examples:
Wool, cotton, natural latex and down feathers are all extracted from plants or animals, meaning these materials are natural.
Organic products must be certified. It means the whole manufacturing process and materials used do not contain pesticides or dangerous chemicals. Must have for people suffering from allergies.
Let’s take a look at different types and natural materials used as pillow filling.
Down Feather
For our readers who are a bit older, or if you have an elderly family member, you will know all about this type. These pillows are made from down feathers of ducks, geese or swans. It can be a mix of down (soft and fine feathers found under harder outside layer) and denser feathers if you want a firmer feel.
It’s typical for down pillows to flatten after some time, that’s why they have greater loft at first. And you have to dry clean them, that’s somewhat a disadvantage. If you tend to sleep hot, down is good until it flattens, then it becomes much hotter.
Pros:
Natural
Nice and Soft feel
Good breathability
Cons:
Difficult maintenance and cleaning
More expensive
Some people have down allergies
#1 Choice: eLuxury Goose Down Pillow (See all recommendations)
Buckwheat
These pillows are packed with dense buckwheat hulls and are a fantastic choice for cooling due to low heat retention. The biggest downside is that the hulls can be quite noisy and unresponsive to movement, so it’s not good if you like to change your position a lot during the night. One of the biggest advantages is that it’s hypoallergenic and it’s suitable for anyone suffering from allergies.
Have in mind that you cannot machine wash the hulls. You can either replace them or put them in the sun for a few hours.
Pros:
Hypoallergenic
Great Cooling
Natural and healthy material
Cons:
Difficult to clean
Noisy
Low response
#1 Choice: ComfyComfy Buckwheat pillow
Cotton
Cotton is a natural material and can manufacture as organic. It’s also hypoallergenic and has great breathability and cooling. You will find many products with an affordable price tag. With all these above mentions pros, we have to mention that cotton pillows have a shorter lifespan and tend to flatten over time. If you choose a suitable loft, you can use it for any position.
Pros:
Lower Price
Breathable
Sleeps Cool
Cons:
Shorter Lifespan
May clump and flatten easily
Our Pick: Naturepedic Organic Cotton/PLA Pillow
Top Choices by Sleeping Position
We all have different sleeping preferences. Some of us like to sleep on the stomach while some prefer side or back. When it comes to your pillow choice, the position will play a major role. For example, loft, density, and type play a significant role in overall comfort and experience.
If you are not familiar what loft is, it’s the height of the pillow when it’s on a flat surface without any additional pressure applied. It’s useful to determine which type of sleeper you are and choose according to that.
Side Sleepers
If you are sleeping on your side, you will want to have an adjustable loft just because you can set the height to your preference. This will allow perfect neck and spine alignment. As far as materials, shredded foam (memory or latex) would be a much better choice because of their pressure point relief properties. But, if you want to go natural, you can pick goose down pillow and adjust it to your liking.
Our Recommendations:
Coop Home Goods
Easy Breather Pillow
Learn more about our top pillow choices for side sleepers if this is your preferred position.
Back Sleepers
Keeping your neck and spine in healthy alignment is a priority for any back sleeper. You don’t want your head raised too much (even though some of us prefer that). Low or Medium is better than high loft. Heavier sleepers might want to opt for couple degrees higher to compensate for increased head and shoulder weight.

Stomach Sleepers
If you are sleeping on your stomach, you will require the least amount of loft. You can even sleep without a pillow if that’s what you prefer. The key here is that your head remains in alignment and that it’s not raised too high. If you combine high loft with a mattress with soft mattress, you will most likely suffer from back or neck pain in the long run.
Again, heavier people can opt for medium loft to compensate but you should never go for high.
Guide: Our Recommended Stomach Sleeper Pillows
Cooling Pillows
In the last few years, quality cooling pillows have become very popular. I’m emphasizing “quality” because many companies advertise their products as “cool,” but in reality, they are not.
Ok, but how to choose the right product, material, and type? Let’s take a look at our graph here and see the cooling properties of different materials.
Here are three fantastic choices that utilize different technologies to achieve cool feel.
Classic Brands – A layer of gel is applied on top, providing better heat distribution.
Carboncool Pillow – Phase Change Covers help regulate the temperature along with aerated foam.
Nest Bedding Active X – Filled with Energex foam which does not retain heat. It feels like a mix of latex and memory foam and also has phase change fabric for additional cooling properties.
Best by Specific Medical Condition or Needs
If you suffer from neck, pack or shoulder pain or even more chronic issues like snoring and sleep apnea, your pillow can be one of the causes and it can play an important role in minimizing the symptoms. Let’s take a look at various medical conditions and needs and how to choose a great pillow based on that.
Allergies
Allergic reactions during sleep can often be caused by incorrect pillow type. Materials such as down feathers collect more mites and some people are directly allergic to it. On the other hand, latex, buckwheat, cotton and high-quality memory foam are hypoallergenic and rarely cause allergies.
Our Tip: If you love that soft down feel, you can buy an alternative (usually made from cotton) and make sure that you place the pillow outside in the sun to kill off any mites.
Snoring
Snoring, as you know can be a big problem for your partner. But, there is a solution for that, and it’s not some complicated machine or a mouthpiece. In most cases of light snoring, it’s just a matter of finding the right pillow and head elevation.
If you are a side sleeper, you will rarely snore anyway, so this is a back sleeper problem most of the time. Slightly elevating your head is good, but it can cause neck pain in the long run. This is why we want memory foam more than any other type for this, to help your neck and head with pressure relief while it still helps with snoring.
Top Picks:
InteVision Foam Wedge
LANGRIA Anti Snore
Read more: Mattresses to Ease Your Nighttime Snoring
Neck Pain
One of the most common causes of neck pain is your mattress and old or improper pillows. Although there could be many underlying conditions, so it’s advised that you consult a doctor before making any decision. Many people make a mistake and do not consider their preferred sleeping position and weight.
Stomach sleepers require lower loft (almost flat) so that your neck doesn’t get curved.
Side sleepers need more contouring from the base of the neck to the ear (slightly heightened)
Back sleepers require medium loft with contouring toward the spine.
As for types, Memory foam works wonders when it comes to pressure relief but if you prefer natural materials go for latex or down (if you are not allergic).
Our Guide: The 10 Best Rated Cervical Pillows for Neck Pain
Migraines
If you ever suffered from migraines, you know how bad it can get. Not only that it can up to 72 hours, but it can severely impact your ability to perform even the simplest tasks. It’s caused by a spasm of the main artery that supplies the brain with blood. When it contracts, it causes this familiar pain, pulsing, and nausea.
One of indirect migraine causes is incorrect sleeping posture. You can easily correct this with a proper pillow to align your spine and neck naturally and to prevent any further nerve irritation.
Recommendations: Any memory foam, latex or buckwheat pillow with good cooling properties that keeps your spine and neck naturally aligned.
Sleep Apnea
Pillows designed to help with obstructive sleep apnea force you to sleep on your side or stomach while providing enough head and neck support. As some of you may already know, sleeping on your back is not recommended for this condition as it can increase the number and occurrence of apnea episodes.
We recommend: EnduriMed CPAP Pillow
With memory foam construction it allows fantastic contouring while its indentations and shape allow for CPAP machines to remain in place without discomfort.
Toddlers
You must be wondering why toddlers can’t sleep on regular pillows? It’s because a child doesn’t have the same neck and head proportions like a fully grown adult. There are several factors to keep in mind before choosing a toddler pillow.
Allergies – Many babies suffer from allergic reactions even though we don’t know it yet. If you want to be extra safe, choose a hypoallergenic material and cover.
Firmness – You don’t want to buy a very soft product since it increases the risk of suffocation. Go with medium firm options, most kids love it, and it’s safe.
Cover – Here, you may go organic if you prefer covers without dyes and harmful chemicals. Cotton or polyester blend is a good choice.
Fill Material – Memory foam is one of the most popular choices these days, but if your kid is not allergic, you can opt for a firmer down feather product.
Our #1 Pick: Little One’s Pillow
Pregnancy
Pregnancy pillows are a special type, shaped as U or C letter to allow maximum comfort during sleep without the added pressure to the stomach. Many moms choose to use it after giving birth. Let’s take a look at a few buying considerations:
Does it have a washable cover? – Most higher-end products on the market will have machine washable covers. You can imagine the stress of trying to clean it during winter days.
Size – If you are petite and choose a bigger pillow, you will not have the full comfort and experience.
Filling – If you are not allergic to down than feathers are a perfect material for body pillows. Memory foam is an option too if you require a bit more hug and contouring.
Wondering what our choice is? It’s Leachco Snoogle.
In Conclusion
As you can see, there is no such thing as the “best pillow” that will suit everyone in any situation. We all have different needs, and in the end, it’s down to our personal preference. Different fill and cover materials have different cooling, firmness and comfort properties.
I hope that this roundup helped you understand which are the ultimate bed pillow brands and products you can buy from every category and for specific medical needs. If you need any help or you would like us to review a certain product, feel free to drop a comment or contact us.

The 5 Best Slim Stomach Sleeper Pillows For 2018
What’s the best pillow for stomach sleepers? If you settle in on your stomach when you lay down to sleep each night, you already know that it can be difficult to find the right stomach pillow for your needs. Many people even ask themselves if sleeping on their stomach is a bad thing. But, we just love it!
A thick, firm pillow really won’t work, as your head will be forced awkwardly up off the mattress. At the same time, you do need some kind of support, as letting your head fall all the way to the mattress itself isn’t particularly comfortable, either. There is a happy medium in there somewhere, but it can be difficult to find.
It is so challenging to find the right belly sleeper pillow that we decided to make this dedicated guide for it. We have spent over 300 hours of research and tested over 18 products before picking the top five. That way you will be able to find your ideal stomach sleeping pillow without wasting countless hours searching online.
Besides, we have also compiled some content to help you determine exactly what you should be looking for as your shop. In the end, we hope the information below will lead you directly to the perfect pillow to allow you to sleep comfortably on your stomach all night long.

When you set out to buy a new front sleeping pillow, you can’t simply check to see which are the best rated before placing your order. A pillow can have all the great reviews in the world, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it is going to be right for your needs. What if all of those reviews came from people who sleep on their sides, or their back? Either way, their reviews would not be relevant to you as a stomach sleeper.
Before you place an order for a new front sleeper pillow, be sure you know exactly what you are looking for in terms of performance characteristics. The following points are key for stomach sleepers hoping to purchase the perfect pillow (and read these tips!).
Thin to Win
This might be an obvious point, but it is the only place to start with this list. For a stomach sleeper, a slim pillow (and firm) is almost sure to be the right choice. This is a difficult point for some to accept at first, as the pillows that look the most comfortable are those which are stuffed completely full. Those lofty pillows are a great pick for back or side sleepers, but not those who land on their belly.
It all comes down to anatomy. If you are laying on your stomach while using a thick pillow, your head is going to be forced up into the air at an awkward angle – there is just no way around it. For most people, it will be difficult to fall asleep in this uncomfortable position. And, if you do manage to fall asleep, there is a good chance you will wake up with a serious neck ache. Do yourself a favor – consider only flat pillows as you shop, and you will be far more likely to wind up with a great firm pillow.
Consider Temperature
It is easy to get rather warm when sleeping on your stomach. If that is a problem that you deal with regularly, look for a pillow which uses some form of cooling technology. This can come in the form of a specific material which is used for fill, or in the design of the cover of the pillow. There are many different pillows on the market today which claim to help you stay cool while you sleep, so looking into those options makes sense if temperature tends to be a problem.
The Cost of the Pillow
Okay – so this isn’t technically a performance element, but it is important anyway. Before you start shopping for your new pillow, be sure to set a budget for yourself for this purchase. Flat pillows designed for front sleepers can get surprisingly expensive, and you don’t want to wind up spending more than you can afford because you fall in love with a specific model. Investing in a quality pillow is a choice that you can benefit from night after night, but that investment still needs to fit with your personal budget.
Thin Stomach Pillow Benefits
A great night of sleep is going to be the leading advantage of owning a pillow designed with stomach sleepers in mind. Using a pillow which has been created with a side or back sleeper in mind is never going to be ideal, and it is going to make it difficult to get the sleep you need. Quality sleep is associated with all kinds of health benefits, so don’t overlook how important it is to pay attention to this aspect of your life. Spending a bit of time to seek out the right pillow for a stomach sleeper is a choice that should continue to pay dividends for years to come.
In addition to the great sleep you may receive, buying a stomach sleeper pillow should also help you wake up without neck problems in the morning. Countless people struggle with neck pain associated with a poor sleeping position. It is hard to enjoy life when your neck hurts, as even turning slightly from side to side can become a painful process. With the right pillow under your head, neck pain should be a thing of the past and your day to day life should suddenly start to look up.
Stomach Sleeper Pillow Reviews
Below you will find a quick review of five of the best pillows for front sleepers. To learn more about any of these products, please follow the included link to view the Amazon product page.
Elite Rest Ultra Slim Sleeper
Right there in the title, you see one of the main selling points for this pillow – it’s ultra slim design. Indeed, this pillow is only 2.5’’ thick, making it one of the thinnest pillows on the market today. This is the kind of slim design we were talking about above, meaning this model should be a good pick for almost any stomach sleeper.
The inside of the pillow is made from memory foam, and one side is flat to keep it in place nicely as you sleep. You aren’t going to find any fancy features with this pillow, but that is part of what makes it such a nice product. It is simply a quality pillow with a design that is perfectly suited for front sleeping.
Those who have used and reviewed this pillow almost universally agree with the conclusion that it is a good option for stomach sleepers. There are very few complaints overall about this product, as its design and quality are appreciated by most owners.
Comments can be found with regard to how this pillow has helped with neck pain, so keep that in mind if you have struggled with other pillows causing pain during the night. Simply put, this is one of the best options on the market for stomach sleepers, and it deserves a place right at the top of your shopping list.

Coop Home Goods Shredded Memory Foam
Rather than a solid piece of memory foam making up the fill of this pillow, it instead uses shredded memory foam to keep your head up off the mattress. Using shredded memory foam allows the user to adjust the pillow as needed to position it just right for a great night of sleep.
The memory foam is encased in a cover which is 40% bamboo, and the product is made in the USA. You can return this pillow within 30 days of your purchase, and it is even backed by a five-year warranty.
You will find that previous buyers of this pillow generally love the performance that it provides. Again here, complaints or criticisms are hard to find. Simply put, many say it’s the most comfortable pillow for a belly sleeper.
This pillow does not have the same thin profile as some of the others on our list, but the adjustability of the shredded foam should allow you to mold it into just the right position for a night of sleep. If you are not completely sold on the idea of a single piece of memory foam for your pillow fill, this shredded foam design is one you should carefully consider.

The Pancake Pillow
This next item on our list is rather interesting, as it includes multiple layers which can be removed and added to meet with your preferences. Rather than trying to create a pillow which would suit the needs of each individual buyer, Pancake Pillow has created this layered design which can be easily customized.
There is a total of six stackable inner pillow layers included with this product, and those layers are placed inside of a 300 thread count case. Both Queen and King-sized pillows are available.
It should be noted that this is a pillow which carries a rather significant price tag – it is one of the most expensive on our list. However, it does have plenty of great comments from previous buyers to back up that price.
The vast majority of past buyers are happy with this product, as users tend to appreciate the innovative design that makes this pillow nicely adjustable. Even among belly sleepers there is sure to be some variation in what feels comfortable from person to person, so the Pancake Pillow is a great way to serve the needs of any sleeper.

Elite Rest Slim Sleeper Memory Foam
Slightly thicker than the Ultra Slim Sleeper from DC Labs, this model is 3’’ thick. This is still a slim pillow, and it is also made from a single piece of memory foam.
The cotton cover that comes with this pillow is machine washable, and this is a model that is likely to work for back sleepers as well as stomach sleepers. For a simple, straightforward memory foam pillow with a low profile, it will be hard to beat this product.
A reduction in neck pain is cited as one of the best features of this pillow. Many have stated that their neck pain was either reduced or eliminated once they started using this product, which is high praise to be sure.
Some feel that the foam is a bit too far on the firm side, but that is usually a good thing when it comes to getting comfortable as a stomach sleeper. Considering the moderate price tag attached to this pillow, it is one that makes a strong selection.

Extra Soft Down Filled Pillow
At this point in the list, we are going in a bit of a different direction. Rather than looking only for thin pillows, you could choose to look at thicker pillows which have plenty of ‘give’ when you lay down at night. That is exactly what you will find with this down pillow.
Yes, this is far thicker than what you have seen on the rest of the list, but that thickness is quickly going to fall once your head hits the pillow. The softness of down will allow your head to settle in nicely for a comfortable sleep. Not all stomach sleepers will like this approach to pillow selection, but it will be the perfect pick for some.
As you would expect from a down pillow, it is the softness of this product which is praised over and over again by previous buyers. The reviews for this product overall are very strong, which should give you confidence if you decide that down is the way to go. A down pillow is never going to be the most affordable option on the market, but investing in your sleep just might be worth it. With great comments from past users and the time-tested performance of down as a fill material, it will be hard to go wrong when you opt for this choice.

Whether you ultimately find the right pillow for your needs on this list or somewhere else, the important thing is that you will have thought through this buying decision. Owning the right front sleeping pillow is something that can improve your life each and every day – and there are very few products that can legitimately make that claim.
With a relatively thin, supportive, well-made firm pillow on your bed, you might find that you start looking forward to bed time more than ever before.

The 5 Best Mattress Covers (Protectors) – 2018 Review Guide
Are you worried that you or your kids will spill something over your mattress, staining it for good? If so, you’re one of many. Investing in a great mattress is undoubtedly something to consider, but you’d also want to take the necessary steps towards protecting it. This will guarantee that you can use it for a longer period of time, without having to deal with unpleasant odors and ruined appeal.
A top rated mattress protector (cover) is a solution that would solve all of the problems mentioned above while adding an extra level of comfort at the same time. That’s a product which is soft, thin and it feels a lot like a premium bed sheet.
If you’re in a hurry check out the SafeRest. It’s made out of cotton and it’s 100% waterproof.
However, with the market being as saturated as it is, getting the best one might truly be a challenge. There are quite a few things that you’d want to account for when it comes to it. This is why we’ve taken it upon ourselves to break it down and to provide you with the essentials of choosing a flawless liner.
Additionally, we’ve also taken the liberty of reviewing a few options that we believe are the best on the market right. Hopefully, this would spare you quite a lot of time and effort and would prevent you from the aimless wandering around in different shops.

What Is A Bed Liner/Protector?
A mattress cover does exactly what the name suggests – it protects your mattress. There are quite a lot of different options on the market, but the vast majority of them provide additional protection against liquids and fluids. Some of them add additional security when it comes to allergens as they would prevent dust mites, bed bugs, and other potential dangers.
Additionally, some liners come with special fabric as well as high-end materials which provide you with breathability as well as temperature control. This is capable of enhancing your overall sleeping process.
Why Should You Buy One?
Adding a bed liner will significantly enhance the overall longevity of your bed. It will also bring a myriad of different benefits. It would insulate the mattress and protect it from spillages, provided you opt for a waterproof protector. It will also act as a barrier against bacteria and bed bugs, hence reducing the chances of allergic inflammations and reactions.
It is also one of the best solutions against bed bugs. This is a horrific menace, and one way to prevent it from entering your mattress is through encapsulating it with a specialized protector.
How To Pick the Right One
Many Different Fabrics
The first thing that you ought to account for when picking your bed protector, regardless of whether it’s for a king-size or a regular-size bed, is the fabric that it’s made out of. It’s usually tailored with a few different, softer and comfortable types of materials. Additionally, almost all of them have a waterproof layer.
It’s quite possible that you encounter liners which are made out of:
Down
Spandex
Polyester
Cotton
As we mentioned above, besides the materials as discussed above, most of the protectors will also feature some convenient and effective waterproof material. Most commonly, this is polyurethane. In certain situations, it could be replaced with vinyl. However, there are quite a lot of discussions led about protectors which contain vinyl with regard to their safety. This is why the majority of the companies prefer to make solutions which are vinyl-free.
Should it Be Waterproof?
The truth is that the majority of the covers are made with one of the layers of waterproof fabric which is, as we mentioned above, polyurethane.
In fact, the most significant difference between the mattress liner and the mattress encasement is the construction. Encasements are made out of the same material while protectors usually feature two layers with one of them constructed from waterproof fabric. This is something important, and it most definitely needs to be considered because it promotes a lot more comfort in comparison.
If you want to make sure that everything is handled as per the highest industry standards, your bed protector must have a waterproof layer.
Should it Protect against Bed Bugs?
Now, liners usually only come with one additional layer of protection which is centered towards its waterproof capabilities. If you want to get something which would also prevent bed bugs from entering the mattress, it’s suggested that you get a full encasement.
While it’s advised to consider this as an option, the bed cover in its nature would rarely feature full bed bug protection.
In other words, if bed bugs are a concern where you live, it is highly advisable to prefer a full encasement instead of a regular mattress protector as it would do a better job. You should align your priorities accordingly to make sure that the solution fits your requirements and needs.
Size Considerations
How large should be your protector? This is something that a lot of people tend to wonder. It’s important to understand that there is a difference between a protector and a cover. While the latter is intended to lay conveniently on the mattress, the former needs to encompass it to the best of its abilities.
The size of your protector would usually depend on the type of bed that you have. There are different sizes available, and you can buy one which envelops the entire mattress or one which covers it half the way to the sides. This depends on the level of protection that you desire.
Typically, those that envelope the entire bed provide full-blown protection and are preferred by the majority of the clients.
Read Reviews about Breathability
One of the most important considerations that you ought to account for when purchasing your bed protector cover is its breathability. Now, usually, there is a lot of misalignment about what manufacturers claim commercially and what the reality is, so reading reviews of actual customers helps a lot.
The breathability of your liner will ensure that your mattress gets the necessary air flow. This prevents bacteria growth, and it prevents the accumulation of unpleasant smells, both of which are incredibly critical considerations.
Furthermore, the more air gets through the liner, the lesser the chance of dust mite and bed bug infestation is. Only the top of the line mattress protectors have premium breathability as one of their main advantages.
Warranty
Now, keep in mind that any single type of moisture which hits the mattress is going to shorten its life by seriously wearing down the foam effectively. Without any protection, you’re likely to have to replace your bed a lot more often, just to get that “like new” sensation.
Additionally, spills and moisture might easily void the warranty. Most of the protectors these days include a waterproof layer. This keeps fluids such as sweat, urine and a range of other liquids from getting to the mattress. This is not only going to help you keep your warranty in place, but it’s also going to deliver a cleaner and a longer lasting bed, free of any spots and stains.
Benefits of Owning
Allergy Relief
Allergies have a serious impact on the way you sleep. If you have the convenience of a protector that1 is made out of hypoallergenic materials, you are likely to find yourself sleeping a lot better. It’s also highly likely that you would stop suffering from those unpleasant itchy eyes and runny nose.
Additionally, even if your sleep itself is not interrupted by your allergies, the discomfort that they bring tend to lead to improper sleep. This leads to you waking up tired and never being truly able to catch up.
Bed Bugs
Bed bugs are amongst the most unpleasant pests that you might have to deal with. Once they manage to establish themselves in your bedroom, you’ll have a tough time getting rid of them, and you’re highly likely to have to get rid of it entirely.
A full liner or encasement might be the perfect solution to your problems. There are some protectors which come with a zipper lock and bug flaps, which are designed to seal your entire mattress closely. This is a perfect solution for bed bugs, and it’s also a great way to protect your mattress from dust mites and other common allergens.
Helps With Kids
One of the biggest challenges for your mattress is to remain stainless because of your kids. When children play around the bed, they tend to spill – there’s nothing extraordinary about it – it’s just how kids are. In addition to spilling, wetting the bed is a sure-fire way to ruin a great mattress.
If you don’t have a protector, though, even the most common stain could become impossible to clean if you fail to handle it on time. And, as we most definitely know, kids would prefer to hide the trouble than to confront it, so you are unlikely to find out until it’s too late.
With a convenient protector which has a waterproof layer, you wouldn’t have to worry one bit. You just wrap it around and rest assured that it’s thoroughly protected. It’s as easy as this.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do Bed Liners Help Keep Your Bed Clean?
Bed liners help keep the surface of your mattress clean but fail to do a good job everywhere else. An encompassing breathable mattress liner, on the other hand, could easily provide you with a full enclosure.
How Much Longer Can Your Bed Last With A Liner?
Great bed covers are capable of prolonging the life of your mattress substantially. You are looking at a few years at the very least, given the fact that you’d have to wash it a lot less common, hence reducing a staggering amount of wear.
Are Covers And Covers The Same Things?
Covers and protectors are not the same things. A cover is a thick top layer which is usually made out of memory foam or latex, and it’s used to adjust its comfort. A bed liner, on the other hand, is a regular, sheet-like solution which has the only intention of protecting the mattress.

Do Canines Actually Dream? Find Out What They Dream About
Do canines dream like humans? Have you ever wondered about it? Is your K-9 capable of having nightmares? What about puppies?
These are all very interesting questions and, believe it or not; there is quite a lot of science that goes behind them. Let’s take a look at the characteristics of their sleep in an attempt to understand a little bit more about their dream world.
Can a Dog Dream?
Not only do they sleep (find out how much they need), but they also dream. And, interestingly enough, dogs apparently create thoughts about things which are quite similar us. Of course, this fact is based on scientific assumptions. You see, dogs have a brain which more complex than ours.
They do show the same electrical sequences. That’s why scientists have accepted that it is quite reasonable to believe that dogs, just like us, are dreaming.
How to Tell If Your K-9 Is Dreaming
Dogs usually start dreaming no more than 20 minutes once they have fallen asleep. One of the most obvious telltale signs that you can be looking out for is the REM cycle. Just like us, they go through a few different phases through their sleep, and the rapid eye movement is amongst of them.
The easiest way to notice this is to go ahead and take a closer look at the eyelids – you’d be able to notice whether or not his eyes are moving underneath. If they are – your dog is probably deep in thought. Also, you can look for certain twitches in their body. Just like us, their imaginations might provoke sudden body movements (or even bark). A dog running in sleep or loud dog dreaming noises are quite common, and you are likely to observe them as well.
What Do K-9s Dream About?
As we’ve already established, canines are quite similar to us. However, there’s no certain way of being 100% sure what they imagine in their thoughts. We have to guess.
If your dog’s paws are twitching and if his lips are moving, the chances are that the dog is chasing something or it is running in his sleep. If he starts barking while sleeping, he might be preventing a theft or chasing off an intruder in your home? We’ll never know for sure, but the chances are that it’s going to be something like that.
Commonly Asked Questions
Can The Breed Affect Their Dreams?
Just like humans, not all dogs imagine the very same things or even for the same duration. For instance, smaller breeds tend to have a higher frequency compared to larger ones. However, they also tend to dream for shorter durations. Larger breeds, on the contrary, have longer (but fewer) occurences.
Now, once again – there is no real way of being 100% certain about it, but we can hazard a guess that the breed might also determine the type of dreams the dog is having. A large Doberman, for instance, is unlikely to imagine the same things as a small pug, genuinely because of their nature and behaviors.
Can The Size Affect Their Dreams?
Yes, their size might be able to directly impact their dreams as we’ve explained above. This is also because their brains are rather primitive when it comes to making the association. Unlike humans, the size of the dog is directly related to his self-worth and psychology.
You know how smaller dogs tend to be more bossy and pushy while larger ones are lenient and relaxed? It’s commonly determined by the size of the dog, generally because the same would also determine their overall behavior.
Can Your Canine Have Nightmares?
Naturally, some will be nightmares. You are likely to notice it when your K-9 has a nightmare, but it’s important to let it pass. This is mainly true because your dog could lash out or attack the person who is waking them.
Of course, they would do so unwillingly, but it is easy to see how this could become a serious problem, especially if your little kid is the one waking the dog up.
Do K-9s Sleep Walk?
While, theoretically, dogs might be able to sleepwalk, chances of this happening are rather slim. On the other hand, you are far more likely to see the animal paddling its feet as if it is currently running. Additionally, it could engage in certain jerky movements of its body as well.
Do Cats Dream As Well?
Cats can dream as well. If you’ve seen your feline friend twitching in their sleep, the chances are that he or she has a dream. Even though their sleeping patterns are quite different, this is something that they have in common with dogs.
Find out why your cat sleeps so much.
Conclusion
As you can see, there’s a lot that we have in common with our K-9 and feline friends when it comes to the realm of dreams. As sensational as it may sound to certain people, our dogs have brains which might even be more complex than ours and it is only natural that they are dreaming commonly.
So, the next time you see your best bud running in his sleep or barking uncontrollably – don’t be alarmed. It is something as natural as you talking in your sleep.

Are on a tight budget. The Wave is priced slightly higher than other bed-in-box models. However, the unique design, quality construction, and luxurious feel allows it to compete with luxury brands at a significantly reduced price when compared side-by-side.
Construction (Materials & Quality)
Casper Wave is a foam mattress designed for use on an adjustable or flat base (such as a platform bed or slatted frame), which the company also sells. Taller than their original product, it is 11.5 inches in height.
It comes conveniently delivered to your door (compressed in a box), or with free white glove delivery service.
The comfortable, thick polyester and rayon cover that surrounds it feels and looks like a soft sweatshirt. It zips off for easy cleaning and resists tearing and wear when pulled.
Beneath the cover, there are five layers that form the brand’s “Natural Geometry System.” This means that the layers and strategic precision cutouts are designed to conform to the body and promote proper ergonomic alignment.
The first layer is made from 1-inch of Casper’s hypersensitive and virtually weightless “Flo foam.” The open cell structure helps to keep the sleeper cool throughout the night. In addition, adds to pressure relief.
The second layer is a 1.5-inch latex level. Slightly firmer than the top layer, it also helps relieve pressure points.
The third layer is 1.5 inches of memory foam, which has been strategically placed deeper into the mattress. Unlike traditional memory mattresses that sink sleepers deep within, moving this layer beneath the latex enables people to move around comfortably on top while being staying gently cradled. This strategy also helps to keep the sleeper cool.
The fourth layer is a 1.5-inch transition layer. Firmer than above levels and softer than the base, it provides a smooth handoff from soft pressure relief to support.
Notches have been cut out of the bottom of this layer in the hip region and inserted with strips of elastic polymer. This flexible support feature keeps hips and spine comfortably aligned without dipping too deep.
The base layer is 5.5” of poly foam that serves as the support level. It has unique precision-cut channels that are designed to contour to your body shape and help with alignment and pressure relief. This feature ensures the comfort of nearly every type of sleeper.
It should be noted that this type of construction is not common in foam beds, making the Wave stand out from the competition. In addition, the configuration of materials helps to fight against the middle getting too soft and losing support over time.
Firmness (Support & Feel)
A medium-level firmness (see firmness guide) is comfortable for most individuals because it tends to provide enough support and pressure relief, no matter the sleeping position.
Due to the construction mentioned above, there are two distinct firmness levels. On a 10-point scale with 10 being the firmest, the hip region is a 5.5 and the rest of the Wave is a 4.5 to 5 level of firmness.
The Wave is softer than the brand’s original product. While you can plan on melting into the bed slightly, it is still easy to move around.
To the touch, you will notice the soft hypersensitive top layer seem to fade away. Pushing deeper into it, you will feel the increasing layers of firmness down to the base layer. Although there is a memory foam layer, the Wave is not slow-responding.
Back sleepers will find a balanced level of lumbar support and hips sinking into the mattress.
Stomach sleepers benefit from the elastic polymer inserts. While this type of sleeper can sink down uncomfortably in other foam brands, the inserts help to reinforce support and prevent the spine from falling out of alignment.
Side sleepers will notice the precision cuts in the upper region of the mattress and the elastic polymer provide the pressure relief they need. This is a key feature for side sleepers shopping around. At the same time, their concentrated weight will not sink too far down.
While significantly heavier individuals may sink deeper into the mattress than is comfortable, our team believes this bed would be a good fit for nearly every sleeper. When considering the Wave, remember that there is a 100-night risk-free trial period.
Motion Transfer
Unlike innerspring mattresses that have a lot of bounce, foam brands excel at minimal motion transfer. They are able to isolate movements instead of shifting the area around where Casper is touched.
Casper Wave receives high marks when it comes to motion transfer. When placing a wine glass filled with water on the Wave and walking across, the glass does not spill.
If you have a partner, you will not be disturbed if they shift or get up in the middle of the night. This is especially good news for the light sleepers among us.
Edge Support
Historically, foam mattresses do not have as much edge support as innersprings. There are two types of edge support qualities to look for when purchasing, which is the feel of sitting on the edge and while lying down.
When sitting on the edge, you will sink slightly. While this is to be expected, it is rarely a problem since most of your time will be spent lying down. Likewise, you will notice compression when lying on the edge.
Other Considerations
Trial Period – 100-night trial period with free shipping. If you decide it is not the right fit, Casper will remove the bed from your home and provide a full refund. Most returned mattresses are donated to local charities.
Warranty – 10-year limited warranty.
Free White Glove Delivery – A delivery service can hand deliver your mattress to the room of your choosing. Residents of select cities can schedule a 2-hour installation window.
Certi-PUR-US® Certified – The foam stays within ozone guidelines and is free from harmful and cancer-causing chemicals.
OEKO-TEX® Certified – The latex meets a minimum global threshold for chemical standards.

The Casper Wave’s unique construction and enhanced ergonomic support is a mattress our team believes would be a great fit for most sleepers. While comfort is subjective for every person, the company’s attention to the needs of every sleep position is evident.
Although this luxurious bed is higher in price when compared to their original product, it is significantly less expensive than similar mattresses found in traditional stores.
With attention to areas such as shoulders, back, and hips through the zoning of materials, we think this mattress is one you should consider if you want a quality night’s sleep and consistency over time.

Our In-Depth Zenhaven Bed Review for 2018
Have you ever wanted to try two mattresses for the price and convenience of one?
Zenhaven has two firmness levels in one handcrafted mattress – meaning your perfect fit may be one flip away. Since the brand offers a 120-day trial period, there is plenty of time to decide which side is right for you.
Zenhaven is manufactured by Saatva, a well-known online-only luxury brand that is much less expensive than comparable showroom mattresses.
Our team was curious about their two-in-one model and the results did not disappoint!
This in-depth review of Zenhaven is based on our scoring system that includes characteristics such as support, quality, and comfort.
Keep reading for an informational deep-dive or click here to see the summary.
Get One Today: Check Pricing & Availability Here
You will love this mattress if you:
Want a hypoallergenic bed – The natural materials used in Zenhaven will have you feeling good inside and out. Its Talalay latex is resistant to mold, microbes, and dust mites, making it a healthier option than many other brands.
Sleep hot – Latex resists body heat. Instead of feeling deeply contorted by memory-style beds that trap heat, latex will support you with a breathable open cell structure. In addition, pinholes and a 1-inch layer of wool further encourage airflow.
Want to find the perfect fit – With two levels of firmness in one bed, you can find the side that works best for you. With a 20-year warranty, you can rest assured that you will enjoy the perfect fit for decades to come.
You might not like this mattress if you:
Want a memory feel – This natural latex bed has more responsiveness than memory foam. However, it also has stronger edge support and stays cooler than traditional memory foam.
Construction (Materials & Quality)
Zenhaven is a 10-inch latex mattress designed to be used with a solid platform (not slatted bases). Unlike many other online brands, it is not compressed in a box.
A quilted organic cotton cover surrounds the bed. There is a natural look to the cotton as Saatva decided to avoid harmful bleaching agents that would have unified the cover’s color. It shows no sign of weakness when tugging or pulling at the top and sides; the stitching is strong.
As there are two distinct sides with different firmness levels – Luxury Plush and Gentle Firm – we will break down the layers on the Luxury Plush side, as this is the side used most by owners.
The first layer under the cover is 1 inch of 100% organic New Zealand wool. The wool naturally creates a flame-retardant barrier and absorbs and wicks away moisture. In addition, it helps air circulation and temperature regulation.
The second layer is 1.5-inches of Talalay latex that serves as the proprietary “5-Zone Comfort Layer.” This means that there are separate sections with pinhole designs of different densities that work together to promote spinal alignment and comfort. There is added support in the hip and shoulder regions.
The third layer is 3 inches of Talalay latex that provides enhanced support. It is softer than the next level.
The fourth layer is 3 inches of Talalay latex that is firmer than the previous level. After flipping the mattress, this firmer layer provides immediate support for those who need it.
The fifth layer is 1.5-inches of Talalay latex that makes up the Gentle Firm side of the bed, which is surrounded by wool. It is firmer than the comfort layer on the Luxury Plush side.
It is important to note that the brand is made with American Talalay latex, which denotes the extensive process the latex undergoes as it transforms from a liquid to solid state. The process creates larger cells and airflow than a less-rigorous Dunlop process, thereby helping with increased temperature regulation and mattress breathability. Since the Talalay process is refined, it produces extremely consistent material that is slightly more expensive.
All-natural latex, natural wool, and organic cotton come together to form a luxurious experience for the sleeper. The brand boldly claims that their all-natural latex will outlast all other latex based on durability tests, which the length of their warranty stands behind.
Firmness (Support & Feel)
Most people prefer a medium-level of firmness because it accommodates sleepers of nearly every position. This level typically provides a balance of pressure relief and support.
As mentioned, there are two different firmness experiences for buyers of this mattress. The brand says the Gentle Firm is 18% firmer than the Luxury Plush. We have rated the Luxury Plush a 4.5 and the Gentle Firm a 7 level of firmness on a 10-point scale with 10 being the firmest.
The cotton cover is soft and pleasing to the touch. There is a quick response time after pressing in and releasing.
You will lay on top of the bed instead of in it. While lying down, repositioning is easy and there is a slight bounce to each side.
Most back sleepers will be comfortable on either side of the mattress due to the proprietary zoning structure. However, they will experience a little more support from the Gentle Firm side, which they may prefer.
Side sleepers need to be mindful of having enough pressure relief in the hips and shoulders. Because of this, they will want to try the Luxury Plush side first. The zoning in the second layer adds support to these areas, but our team agrees that there was adequate pressure relief.
Stomach sleepers find added benefit from the Gentle Firm side. It provides more support to the hips and keeps them from sinking into the bed and disrupting spinal alignment. However, most will be comfortable on the Luxury Plush side as well.
Significantly heavier back and stomach sleepers may need to try the Gentle Firm side first for additional support so they do not sink too far into the mattress and out of alignment. Significantly heavier side sleepers will want to try Luxury Plush to get the benefits of pressure relief.
A huge value in choosing this mattress is the ability to find the firmness level that works best for you. If you decide to try the other side of the bed after delivery, the Zenhaven team will come back to your home and flip the mattress for no additional cost.
Motion Transfer
Although not quite as advanced as memory foam when it comes to motion transfer, latex beds tend to perform well. While this is not as important for deep or solo sleepers, it is important light sleepers or those easily disturbed by a partner getting up or repositioning during the night.
Zenhaven performs exceptionally well as a latex bed in regards to motion isolation. Even though there is a bit of bounce, the effects were minimally transferred throughout the bed.
  Edge Support
Unlike many other online-only brands, Zenhaven is not compressed and shipped to your door in a box. While these brands can offer an enhanced level of convenience, oftentimes they miss the mark when it comes to edge support. There are two types to consider when buying – sitting on the edge and lying on the edge.
When sitting on the edge, the Zenhaven performs better than foam mattresses and slightly better than other latex beds we have reviewed.
While lying on the bed, the edge support remains satisfactory. There is minimal compression and our team reported staying in one place instead of feeling forced out of the bed.
Other Considerations
Trial Period – 120-day trial period. If you decide to return the product, you will get a full refund, minus the initial $99 transportation cost.
Warranty – The 20-year warranty tis noticeably longer than other brands.
Free White Glove Delivery – Since the bed is not compressed in a box like many online brands, the company will set up a 4-hour delivery window to bring the Zenhaven into your home and set it up in the room of your choosing.
Free Mattress and Foundation Removal – The white glove delivery team will remove up to two pieces at no extra cost.
Natural Materials – While not all parts of the bed are made from 100% natural materials, there are many natural materials in the Zenhaven. Talalay latex, wool, and organic cotton are in the different levels of the mattress.
Hypoallergenic and Antimicrobial – The bed is naturally mold, microbe, and dust mite resistant.

The 7 Best Rated Mattresses for Heavy People – Our 2018 Picks
Updated January 7th, 2018: After careful research and suggestions from our community we decided to add four more beds to our list and to exclude few of our initial choices. We also changed our winner in this category according to these new findings.
When it comes to choosing a suitable mattress for heavier people, we have to consider a few different factors than with thin people. We all want to have a good night and to wake up rested and refreshed. But if our bed sags and sinks after a few months it’s not going to work, right?
It’s relative what’s considered overweight or heavy these days. Some people can be regarded as heavy at 150 pounds while some are not even at 200. Even though these mattresses can support up to 300 lbs, we are going to say that 200+ pounds are considered heavy / larger or overweight.
To provide the best possible sleep experience for heavier or larger than average people we have selected our top three picks this year and tested it over 90 days by 200+ pound person.
Here’s what you need to consider:
If you’re in a hurry check out the WinkBeds: It has three firmness levels, high-quality materials, hybrid design and TENCEL cover. This product is our favorite pick for this category. It offers a fantastic support for heavier users and they prove that this product is durable and excellent for many users.
IMAGE NAME MATERIAL THICKNESS WEIGHT LIMIT PRICE RATING WinkBeds Plus Hybrid 15” 300 pounds for Regular and above 300 pounds for Plus Option $$$$ 9.7/10 Nectar Medical Grade Visco Elastic Foam 11” Up to 300 pounds $$$ 9.5/10 Layla Copper Infused Foam 10” 300 pounds $$$ 9.3/10 Saatva Luxury innerspring (coil-on-coil construction) 12” 300 pounds $$$$ 9.0/10 DreamFoam Bedding Ultimate Dreams Gel Memory Foam 12” 300 pounds $$ 8.8/10 The Purple Bed Polymer comfort layer + polyfoams 9.5" 300 pounds $$$ 8.5/10 Novosbed Memory Foam and Polyfoam 11” Up to 300 pounds $$$$ 8.4/10
How To Choose a Mattress for Overweight People
Although there are general standards that can help anyone choose a new bed, people with over 200+ pounds have special needs that should not be ignored.
1. Quality Materials
This is critical in most cases. Using lower quality materials will most likely result in sagging and worse sleep experience after some time. Even though most beds last for well over six years nowadays, if you opt for cheap products with low-quality materials you will most likely have to change it after 2-3 years. And that’s not something we want to do often.
2. Thickness
If you have less than 200lbs a 10” bed is more than enough in most cases. If you are heavier than this, you will want to go for 12” or thicker with good deep compression support.
Have in mind that some products offer extra thick layers that provide enough support even at 10-11”.
3. Firmness
You can decide your ideal firmness level by first determining your ideal sleeping position. Heavier people will require a medium to medium-firm. Your weight will create more sinkage and hug, and you might experience back pain. Expect additional 1-2” of sinkage if you are over 230-250lbs. Make sure to compensate that on a firmness scale by choosing 7-8 out of 10.
4. Cooling and Temperature Regulation
Most common complaint from overweight and larger people is that they get too hot during sleep. It usually happens when your mattress doesn’t have enough room to breathe and to provide enough air circulation.
In most cases foam material “sleeps hot” when compared to latex, innerspring and hybrids. These days this problem is solved if you don’t buy cheaper options and opt for more premium products. Most of these also have gel layer which serves as additional cooling material on top of your bed.
5. Edge Support
This isn’t mandatory, but it’s great to have if you use your bed during the day. If you frequently sit on the edge, this will play a significant role. It also means that your bed will be more durable and will last longer and is usually an indication of premium products.
Hybrid and coil-on-coil construction provide the best edge support.
Type Of Mattress
There are many types and materials on the market today. Each style has their strengths and weaknesses when it comes to overweight people. In this section, we’ll break down the major bed types (memory foam, latex, innerspring, and hybrid) and how they affect heavy sleepers.
Memory Foam
According to many large and more cumbersome sleepers, memory foam is one of the best bed types out there. Why?
Foam mattresses, whether they are on the hard or soft side, do a great job at evening out pressure points. One of the biggest complaints that obese sleepers have is that certain areas of their body end up hurting (i.e., their back or hips). Memory foam does a fantastic job of providing evening support that contours to the body.
Despite the numerous benefits, this mattress style can cause people to feel hot due to the lack of breathability in the material. Worry not, there are some great cooling memory foam options on the market today.
Read our memory foam article to learn more.
Latex
For overweight people, latex mattresses are a solid option as well. Latex is much better at keeping you cool, unlike most memory foam bed options out there. That said, you’re not going to get the same level of comfort that we discussed above.
If you’re on the heavy side and already experience pain while you sleep, latex isn’t your best option.
Recommended read: Our Recommended Latex Mattress Picks
Innerspring
In most cases, we do not recommend an innerspring style mattress for big guys and girls. That’s because most of the beds will create pressure points, which often leads to pain. As discussed above, memory foam is your top choice if you’re most concerned with keeping your weight even (avoid pressure points).
If you do decide to purchase an innerspring, make sure to go with a high-quality option that uses a coil-on-coil build. This technology uses two springs which make the support better, especially for big people.
Besides, your bed will last longer with coil-on-coil vs. a cheaper alternative — one of the biggest complaints of innerspring is that the support and comfort don’t last long.
If you want to learn more about this category you can check our innerspring bed recommendations.
Hybrid
As the name suggests, a hybrid mattress is simply the combination of two or more types. Unless we know the exact bed you’ve chosen, we can’t say whether it’s a perfect match for you or not.
A great hybrid option would be a memory foam and latex bed. Foam offers the most pain relief which is something heavy people deal with while sleeping. And the latex can help keep your body cool at night.
Benefits Of Owning a Bed For Heavy People
The worst part about owning a product that is not good for you is that you might not realize it until you get one that makes the difference.
If you are a heavy person, it can get even worse with a bad mattress: back aches, inadequate support and high temperatures during sleep can make your nights everything but enjoyable.
On the other hand, if you happen to take the time to know what to search for when buying a new bed, you can end up with something that will change your life. Not only can neck and lumbar pains disappear, but you could even get one that will help regulate the heat at night, making your sleep a much cooler one.
Moreover, your body will be supported, and you won’t feel like you are sleeping on a water bag. All of these things together can improve your body’s posture, muscular health, and even your mood! Because who does not wake up bad-tempered the morning after a bad night?
Having these aspects in mind, we have compiled the top mattresses for overweight people that we found in our research.
We Excluded: Classic Brands Gramercy Hybrid Mattress – Here’s Why
While some of you may be wondering why the Gramercy Euro-Top Hybrid by Classic Brands isn’t on our list, we have taken our decision based on the following facts:
It is too firm, even for bigger folks
It gets very hot in terms of temperature, a definite no-no for a larger person
Users have experienced the sinking of certain parts of the mattress over time, making it lose the support of the human body.
This does not mean that the Gramercy Hybrid Mattress is useless.
However, while the heat it produces can be helpful for those who live in cold locations, the average heavy person will find it unbearably hot.
The same goes for it firmness: most will believe it to be too hard, but for a few of you, it can be perfect.
Our Top Rated Picks Compared
WinkBeds
Highlights:
Specially designed for people on the heavier side
15” Thick
Three Firmness Levels
coolControl System (Active cooling)
Made in the USA
OVERALL RATING: 9.7 out of 10
WinkBeds is a hybrid (pillow top) bed that comes with three levels of firmness (soft, medium and luxury firm). It’s 15” thick with 5 different layers and TENCEL cover that allows for extra breathability and softness. Just beneath is a 2” layer of foam for extra comfort.
Something that sets this product apart from the competition is the option to get the active cooling base (coolControl technology). It’s designed to increase or decrease the temperature according to your preference. It even allows you to control it from your smartphone, how cool ha?
The regular option will be good for most people under 300 pounds. But, if you want that extra support you can choose the “Plus” option for heavier individuals (designed for people above 300 pounds).
WinkBeds has a lot to offer and even though it costs more than the competing products it’s definitely one of the best beds out there and the ultimate choice for heavier sleepers.
Nectar
Highlights:
Breathable covers
Pure Foam Product
Preferred by Side Sleepers
365 days trial
Lifetime warranty
OVERALL RATING: 9.5 out of 10
I’m sure you are wondering why we included another 11” product on our top list. The truth is, Nectar offers better support with its 11 inches than thicker ones. Deep foam layers provide structural support, and on top, you get 1” of cooling gel. You will have ideal experience as a side sleeper due to fantastic contouring of memory foam. It provides that familiar “hug” and pain point relief.
Firmness wise, it’s medium-firm (6.5 out of 10). You will notice minimal motion transfer so if you have a much lighter partner they won’t get tossed around. Another essential feature for people with a few extra pounds is edge support and Nectar excels at that even though most foam products don’t tend to be as good.
In the end, if you consider everything above and the fact that they offer a lifetime warranty and 365-day trial it’s hard not to consider it as one of the top choices.
Layla
Highlights:
Copper Infused Foam
Two Firmness Levels
Great Breathability and Cooling
Excellent support
Made in the USA
OVERALL RATING: 9.3 out of 10
Layla evolved by listening to suggestions of customers to create something spectacular. It has excellent cooling and breathability due to copper infused Thermo gel. But the most apparent feature we should bring up is pressure relief and contouring which most larger sleepers will prefer. Copper technology also has anti-inflammatory properties, so if you are suffering from any joint inflammation or pain, you will love this new technology.
Even though it’s only 10” thick, it provides good support for any sleeping position.
One interesting feature is that it has two sides (firm and soft ) and you can easily flip your mattress for an entirely different feel. We found a firmer side to be much better at supporting the sleeper.
Overall, if you are looking for a fantastic deal and quality with advanced cooling technology and comfort, you will love Layla.

Why Memory Foam?
A Brief History
Memory Foam is polyurethane combined with other chemicals. Those additional chemicals add to the viscosity and density of the end product. You may see it referred to in some cases as viscoelastic polyurethane foam. The origins of this material can be traced back to 1966 when NASA developed it.
The original intention was for this material to be used for aircraft cushions, but it was quickly discovered that it had potential far beyond that application. It was released to the public domain in the 1980s, and it has gradually gained in popularity since that time. It has been used in medical applications for some time and has more recently – thanks to reductions in cost – become a material that is used in a range of home products like mattresses.
Read more about how memory foam works here.
A Unique Memory Foam Feel
This amazing material has a unique and very recognizable feel. It hugs and contours to your body as you compress it, providing exceptional pressure relief and support.
The material will gradually shape to match the outline of your body, meaning the mattress is essentially customized for your needs each time you lay down. When you get up, the material will regain its original shape quite quickly, readying itself for the next use.
The other feature which can be advantageous in the mattress application is the motion isolation that it offers. Motion isolation means there is a very little transfer of energy from one side of the mattress to the other. If your partner is tossing and turning in the night, for instance, you are unlikely to feel much of anything as you sleep. This is not a feature that can be claimed by a traditional spring mattress, and it is a big part of its popularity.
Viscoelastic properties are what makes it unique, and it’s worth noting that poly foam without viscoelastic properties is not a memory foam.
A Note on Cooling and Response
The main problem people complain about is slow responsiveness and heat retention.
Response means how quickly a material recovers when compressed. Memory Foam has a very slow recovery rate and takes a few seconds to return to original shape. This also means the material will contour to your body better. But, the slower response is also something many people find as negative, so it’s down to personal preference.
Heat retention is a problem that earlier versions of foam struggled with. The material hugs your body, creating hotspots, and it can quickly become a nightmare, especially in summer days. Advanced gel covers and open cell structure fixed the heat issue to a degree but don’t expect foam to sleep as cool as coil or latex.
Do you need a “colder” option? Read our full guide with the best cooling mattress picks.
Heat Retention Graphic - How cool or hot each type of mattress sleeps.
Is This the Right Material and Type of Mattress for You?
It’s not for you if
You Sleep Too Hot – A significant issue with this material is that it sleeps hot, even with cooling gel. If you tend to sweat or you are in a warm climate, you might want to consider other options.
You are a Stomach Sleeper – If you prefer to sleep on your belly, your torso will create pressure points, and your overall sleep experience will suffer. You will need a firmer surface for this position, so you do not sink too deep.
It is for you if
You are suffering from back pain – For anyone suffering from back ache, you will need a material that conforms to your body and provides pressure relief. Memory-foam is perfect for this, and it’s the most recommended for back pain.
You love sleeping on your side or back – Contouring and hug are especially important for side sleepers as firm materials that do not conform tend to create pressure points on your shoulder and hip joints.
You are a bit heavier – Foam is perfect if you are a heavier person because you will need that extra pressure point support and contouring.
Still not sure? Here is our complete guide “How to Choose a Mattress in 5 Easy Steps“.
What Makes the Highest Quality Memory Foam?
During your research you will encounter products priced at $200 and those at $2000, so obviously there is a difference. Let’s take a look at the most important factors that determine if the quality of this amazing material.
Density
The density represents how much foam is built in each layer. Thicker does not equal better density too. Higher density will give you longer lifespan for your new bed. It also means that it will be much hotter to sleep on. You will most likely encounter the term PCF (pounds per cubic foot) and here are the three common levels of density:
Low – 3.5 PCF or below
Medium – 3.5-5.0 (Golden range to look for)
High – 5.0 or above
What do those numbers mean? They refer to the actual weight of the product, with a heavier weight representing a denser material. The weights are measured per cubic foot, so a mattress with a rating of four pounds indicates that one cubic foot of the material used would weight four pounds. As you would expect, heavier products are going to be more expensive than lighter options, but it also means that they offer better support and are more durable.
Thickness
The thickness of the layers is an important factor when determining sleep quality. It has much to do with the manufacturer and a mattress in general. It’s recommended that there is at least 4”, but it can be split into two comfort layers.
Example showing a mattress structure (top to bottom) – 2×2″ Memory foam and 5.5″ support foam
Firmness
The firmness is highly correlated to the weight that has been used. Heavier mattresses are going to be firmer and more supportive, while lighter versions will be softer. Of course, there will be some variation in firmness from model to model even when comparing weights, so check on the stated firmness of any mattress before making a purchase. To measure firmness specifically, a scale known as ILD (indentation load deflection) can be used. On this scale, a higher number like 12 or 13, is going to be firmer than an 8 or 9.
We use a scale of 1-10 (ten being the most firm) so with the products we recommend you will also have firmness recommendation along with it. So no complicated calculations needed. Check our firmness guide here.
Lifespan & Durability
The lifespan that you should expect is going to have a lot to do with the quality of the product you purchase. Naturally, spending more money on a high-end mattress is going to return you a better product, which can be expected to hold up for a longer period. In general terms, you should expect to get somewhere in the range of seven to ten years of quality performance from a memory foam bed.
Warranties
As was the case with lifespan, better products will give you a longer warranty. Some of the high-end options on the market will offer you 20 years of coverage, while less-expensive models only come with 5 years. Usually, the quality of a mattress will be directly related to the warranty which is offered, but it’s not always the case.
Off-Gassing and Chemicals
Off gassing is one of the leading complaints. A new one is going to need to get rid of its chemical smell at first, which is a process known as off gassing. This usually only lasts for a short period, but it can put some people off when they are just getting started on their new mattress. If you do decide to buy one, it is important to understand that off gassing is likely to be part of the process.
Good for Romance?
You may be concerned about more than just sleeping when it comes to a new bed. If you are planning a romantic evening, the difficulty of moving around on this type of mattress is often noted as a negative, while the quiet nature of memory foam can be positive in some circumstances. Want more? Check our favorite couple’s beds and see the individual reviews.
Types of Memory Foam
As mentioned previously, there are many polyurethane foams around, but not all of them are “memory.” Over the years, companies have experimented with this material and came up with some variations with a different hug, contour, cooling, sinkage levels and durability. While there are many others, here are the three most common types you will see on the market.
Traditional
This is the most common and the least responsive derivation of memory foam. It’s that traditional hug and contour feel we all know and many of us love. Typical density for this type is 4.0 – 6.0 PCF. Here are some of the highlights:
Designed to enhance circulation and relieve stress on your joints
Good for side sleepers
Sleeps very hot
Open Cell
To battle heat retention, manufacturers came up with a solution in terms of open-cell foam. While it still provides similar and familiar feel, small air pockets provide a much cooler sleeping experience and better response time.
Better cooling
Still provides similar feel as the traditional type
Faster response
Gel Foam
This is the most popular variation you will see even on mid-grade mattresses these days. This gel is usually infused during the manufacturing process and evenly spread across the entire surface, or it can be incorporated as tiny beads or liquid.
Example showing gel foam mattress structure (top to bottom) – Cooling gel, Memory foam, Transition layer, High density foam
Gel solved the biggest memory foam issue, heat retention by evenly dispensing the heat instead of creating hot pockets. Don’t get fooled by low ticket products advertising gel foam mattresses as these just won’t do the trick. If you pick a quality product though, you can expect a much cooler experience than on a traditional one. Here are a few tips to pick a good product.
Go with liquid gel if you can because it provides better cooling compared to beads
Don’t go with a density lower than PCF 3.0. It’s an indication of the lower quality product.
Opt for thinner, more breathable covers
Plant Based or Eco Foam
Plant-based or natural memory foam mattresses became some of the most popular on the market. The reason is a more environmentally friendly process and replacement of petroleum-based substances with bamboo, tea, soy or Aloe Vera. These materials are much better at heat distribution and provide much needed joint pain relief and better motion isolation.
No odors and off-gassing
Natural materials
Good for allergies
Better heat distribution and motion isolation
More expensive than traditional models
Memory Foam Mattress Reviews – Best By Type
Nectar (Best Overall Value)
Overview:
Amazing Value
Great Cooling
Good for Side Sleeping
365 Day Trial
Lifetime Warranty
OVERALL RATING: 9.7 out of 10
Nectar is a fantastic new bed that offers impressive performance at a reasonable price too. It is constructed with pressure relief in mind, and you will notice a feeling of sinking which is a huge plus for side sleepers. The cover is very soft to touch, made of Tencel-Cotton with 1-inch of gel foam quilted into it. The combination of gel and tencel do a good job at temperature regulation.
On a firmness scale, I would rate it around 6.5 (medium-firm) which should be good for most people. Like with most foam products you will notice very little motion transfer (the amount of energy transferred when you toss around in bed). Edge support is also outstanding compared to other products in this category in this price range.
Nectar offers a lifetime warranty and 365 nights trial period which is something that most other manufacturers can’t provide. It’s just another testimony to the overall quality of this product. Highly recommended.
Loom & Leaf (Best Quality Materials)
Overview:
Natural materials
Quilted Cover
Moderate hug and contour
High Density
Multiple firmness levels
Premium look and feel
Made in the USA
OVERALL RATING: 9.5 out of 10
Loom & Leaf offers luxury and high-quality memory foam bedding system comparable to Tempur-Pedic products at just a fraction of their price. It’s made by Saatva Company, one of the first companies that started selling quality beds online.
It comes with a 4-layer construction:
2” of conforming gel foam infused via a “gel-swirl” technique. The gel helps to evenly spread heat and provide a nice, cool sleeping experience. The density of this layer is 4 PCF.
5” of 5.0 PCF memory foam provide exceptional contouring and support
2” transitional layer for extra comfort
5” support base provides a strong foundation for this fantastic mattress
Loom & Leaf mattresses come in two firmness levels so you can pick the one you feel is for you:
Medium (5-6 out of 10)
Firm (8-9 out of 10)
Overall, L&L is one of the best products we’ve encountered during our research and earns the title of the top rated memory foam based mattress.
Layla (Advanced Cooling)
Overview:
ThermoGEL technology
Copper Infused Foam
Sleeps Cool
No smell of offgassing
Two Firmness Levels (One for each side)
Made in the USA
OVERALL RATING: 9.3 out of 10
Layla is one of the rare companies that listens to their consumers and constructs their products according to their needs. Layla is a comfortable, healthy and cool mattress with good airflow. A unique copper infused foam technology helps reduce joint inflammation and can ease pain and stiffness caused by arthritis. It also helps with better blood circulation as copper has anti-inflammatory properties.
Layla offers incredible cooling properties due to, again, copper since it provides great thermal conductivity.
It comes with a firm and soft side, and you can flip the mattress and enjoy a completely new feel. I don’t see a huge benefit here, but it’s great if you are uncertain which you might prefer. For me, the firm side is much more comfortable.
Conclusion: This is an amazing value considering advanced materials and technology used. If you tend to sleep hot or you have rheumatoid arthritis, this is the perfect mattress for you.

The Novosbed (Traditional Foam Feel)
Overview:
Multiple Firmness Levels
11” Thick with Great Support
Nice Traditional Feel
Good pressure relief
Manufactured in the USA and Canada
OVERALL RATING: 9.1 out of 10

If you are not familiar with the Novosbed, I don’t blame you. This is a hidden gem in this industry and highly overlooked. Novosbed offers fantastic support with lots of hug and sinkage. A true memory foam feel many of us love. It comes in three different firmness options:
Soft – 3-4 out of 10
Medium – 5-6 out of 10
Firm – 7-8 out of 10
I prefer the medium one, but if you are a bit heavier or sleeping on your stomach, you should consider the firm option. I wouldn’t advise the plush one unless you are a very light back sleeper.
Overall, if you want a mattress that’s comparable with Tempur-Pedic Cloud line (which is over 2.5 times more expensive) you are getting an amazing value for your money here. If you love the pronounced hug feel you will love the Novosbed.
Bear Mattress (Ideal for Active People)
Overview:

5” of high response foam for extra comfort
5” of high-density layer that makes the foundation
The cover uses Celliant technology which circulates the energy released from the sleeper’s body during sleep and feeds it back for faster muscle growth and restoration.
Conclusion: If you want a medium firm all memory foam mattress, specifically designed for athletes, constructed using the highest quality materials at a fraction of a store price, this is the product of choice for you.

It’s made from gel memory foam, wool and ventilated support foam with bamboo infused cover making it one of the most natural and safest mattresses on the market.
As far as firmness, it sits around 5-6 on a scale of 1-10, so that makes it medium-firm.

Lucid 14 Inch Plush

Ultra Plush Feel
CertiPUR-US certified
OVERALL RATING: 8.6 out of 10
If you like to go in a natural direction with as many of your purchases as possible, the LUCID mattress option is one to keep in mind. Again here, we see a model that can be had in the full-range of mattress sizes. There is a one-inch bamboo charcoal layer on the top of the product, and the overall mattress is 14-inches thick. Impressively, this mattress comes with a 25-year warranty.
Past buyers of this mattress have been highly impressed with its performance. One of the common positives associated with this mattress is the lack of odor that comes along with most products. This can likely be attributed to the natural design of the product, and it is something to keep in mind if you would like to avoid the off gassing process. If there is a complaint to be found, it is the fact that this mattress has proven to be too firm for some buyers. This is a point of personal preference, so be sure you like a firm mattress if you go in this direction.
Tuft & Needle
Overview:
Good budget option
10” thick
Medium Feel
Made in the USA
OVERALL RATING: 8.5 out of 10
Tuft & Needle present another all-around mattress with this offering that comes in a total of six sizes. One of the things that stand out about this option is the 100-night trial that comes with the mattress. That means you can try out the product for three months without being committed to the purchase.
This bed has earned some of the best reviews. Among the many compliments paid to this product include the ease of setup, the price, the support that it provides, and more.
Based on the overall impressions, Tuft & Needle is a good budget option for people who want a medium firm feel, and it’s ideal for side sleepers due to more sinkage and hug.
Memory Foam vs. Other Materials and Types
Innerspring
Coil (innerspring or coil-on-coil) provide more airflow and cooling than almost any other type. Nowadays, many products include a layer of memory foam on top for extra comfort. The combination of two results in improved lifespan, cooling and you still get that familiar foam feel. One such example is luxury mattress from Saatva, a sister company of our Editor’s choice here, Loom & Leaf.
Read More: Our review of the top rated innerspring beds
Latex
Latex is considered as the creme de la creme of materials, and in most cases, the price of latex beds is higher. It’s not heat activated and provides a much cooler sleep experience even compared to gel foam. It has faster response and better bounce, but it has a completely different feel. You won’t get that much hug and contouring with this material. An example would be Zenhaven mattress.
More reading: The 5 Best Latex Beds You Can Buy in 2018
Hybrid
These days many manufacturers realized that combining materials and different types negates all negative sides and you end up with a much better product overall. Typical hybrids are coil or latex with foam. An example would be the Purple bed.  Another fantastic example is Leesa mattress which combines latex based foam on top with memory foam below it.
Mattress vs. Toppers
To save money, you can opt to purchase a topper rather than an entire mattress. However, mattress toppers are rarely as effective as desired, especially when they are placed on an aging mattress. If the underlying mattress is starting to sag or otherwise fail, it is unlikely that the topper is going to do anything to improve performance. Most likely, you are going to want to opt for a mattress rather than a topper when a good night’s sleep is your top priority.
Conclusion
As you can plainly see, there are plenty of high-quality memory foam mattress brands on the market today. If you would like to purchase one for your own home, the beds listed above are a great place to start your search. In fact, there is a good chance that you will find a winner from that list without having to go any further.
We hope you now have all the information you need to make an informed purchase. Thank you for taking the time to review our buying guide, and we wish you the best of luck with your selection. Here’s to a great night’s sleep!
