doing research on vietnam and the draft to make actual historically accurate takes so here’s what i got

darry would’ve been drafted, however i believe he would’ve been able to opt out of it as the sole provider of money in the family (though im not sure—in 1970 president nixon set a law for fathers (ik darry isn’t a father but a legal guardian hence why idk if this would work) to prove why their absence would have been dangerous within the family-ill have to find out what year(s) jan 5 was called tho)

edit: also darry would’ve been called to fight in 1969 before the law nixon set in place…BUT if you think about it, the chronic back pain he suffers could’ve been a possible way for him to be exempt (i think he’d play up whatever cards he could to make sure he didn’t have to go-idk i feel like that’s more in character than him just leaving. i think he’d make every effort to stay and i think he could’ve made it work)

edit 2: darry would have been exempt due to his chronic back pain—“any injury that would impair someone’s full efficiency as a soldier will be exempt” (he also wouldn’t have made it through any boot camp activities either with the pain)

ponyboy would’ve been but he actually would’ve been exempt because he would be in college at that time-a full time college student was exempt (though i suppose it also depends on whether you think the events happened in ‘64 or ‘67 but regardless the draft ended in 1973 so idk if it would matter either way since pony would’ve graduated in either ‘72 or ‘75 anyway—i don’t think july 22 was called in ‘72 or ‘73)

edit: edit-the draft for july 22nd was called in 1969, when pony would’ve been a full time college student (or in the case of choosing the musical timeline he would’ve been a junior or senior in high school, so regardless pony would have been exempt from the war because he would’ve been a full time college student in ‘69 or he would still be in high school)

johnny would’ve been drafted if he lived , however he would’ve been physically handicapped (unable to walk) and unable to fight anyway so he would’ve been exempt

dally would’ve been drafted with no way out (unless you wish to count if he had gotten shot and lived, in which case the area he would’ve been shot in would probably be the determining factor in if he was drafted or not)

edit: due to dallas’ criminal record i don’t think he’d have been eligible (though it’s hard to tell since his crimes (as far as i know) are all mild misdemeanors (petty theft, driving w/out a license, stuff like that) so idk if that would leave him exempt or not—there’s nothing online saying either way so idk—all that i’ve read is that you can sign a plea waiver but there were felons who fought in vietnam, so im not sure if he would’ve been exempt—but regardless thanks @curlyshepardconfirmed!

So I have a plot for a fic where Wade believes Peter Parker is experimenting on people (like on the comic) and this is like part of the scene when Wade attempts to kill him.

Wade doesn’t go right away after he shoots Parker. He stays there, right in front of him, seeing how his face morphs into a new expression. One full of affliction.

“W—“ Parker tries to say something. But his chest moves erratically, hindering any attempt to speak, and the bloods flows out of the injury, staining his lab coat.

He doesn’t have a lot of time left. That much is evident. He’s minutes away from dying, painfully, feeling each second the excruciating agony of the bullet near his heart — until it stops beating.

The fact that Wade isn’t taking the time to prolong this, to make Parker feel the same torment of the people who suffered at his hands, it’s a small courtesy to Spidey. Even if he never discovers that Parker was taking advantage of him, using him to cover his wicked purposes, Wade hopes that making it fast will make it better.

Because he isn’t supposed to be killing anyone. Less Spidey’s boss, the guy Spidey idolizes.

Wade had promised himself he wouldn’t kill again. Not after he changed. He was finally able to be someone different, someone worthy of being near Spidey. But after he found out Parker was behind the experiments, it was impossible to stand still and believe that Parker deserved a second chance. He’s probably throwing out the window all the progress of these few months.

But he has to do this.

Parker’s death will be fast — as fast as the bleed out takes — but he’s not leaving earth without suffering first. That’s why Wade aimed purposely to a spot near Parker’s heart and not directly at it.

He looks how Parker puts his hands around his chest, like he could somehow stop the bleeding just with that. What an idiot. For someone who is famous for being a scientist, he must be aware anything he does will be useless. There’s no going back.

And yet.

“W—“ Parker tries again.

He should be on the floor by now, but for some reason he keeps wanting to talk. It really is bothering Wade.

"Why? Are asking why? Gonna keep pretending til’ the end? You aren't fooling me, Parker. You know exactly what you did,” Wade snaps and Parker flinches at his words. Like they hurt more than the wound on his body.

"Wa—" Peter insists.

Wade grunts. “Is it wait now? C’mon, Parker. Not gonna spent my time trying to guess your last words. And if you’re really asking me to wait, think again. I bet they asked the same, and you—“

Wade groans, and then he aims the gun at Parker’s head, to his forehead. There’s no reason not to pull the trigger. Even if Wade spares him the pain ending things now, there’s no way for Parker to survive. He will accomplish what he came to do.

Wade analyzes the face behind the muzzle, and to his surprise, Parker doesn’t have the face of a murderer. There’s no guilt, not even a hint of anger for being discovered. Or that shame and sobbing that Wade has presence sometimes, when the people he had killed realized it was time to face the consequences of their actions.

If something, there's an indescribable pain in Parker’s eyes. He looks hurt, and it’s a different hurting, not the one he must be feeling from the bullet. It’s like he can’t understand why Wade did that to him. And not for the whole experimenting-on-people-matter. Nor the bullet matter. Its seems deeper, which doesn’t make sense.

Spidey talks a lot about Parker’s job, but Wade never got to meet him. Not until now. This is the first time they’re looking face to face. How should he take that expression? It’s feels personal, but there’s no way for it to be.

“Whatever,” Wade says as he holsters the gun. He isn’t wasting more bullets on this asshole. He turns his back, and walks away. He isn’t giving Parker the satisfaction of having someone to hear his last words — if he even manages to talk at some point.

All the time on his way out of the building, he tries to shake out of his head the look on those brown eyes.

Warnings - established relationship, they kiss twice (I really tried to write a kiss scene but I don't think it was good), it wasn't revised and it was done quickly, It's small so sorry.

“Hey, can you turn that off?” you hugged Danielle's waist, the girl smiled and almost immediately turned off her cell phone.

It was a long week for the two of you, with busy schedules for both of you and so you barely had time to talk or see each other, but then you both were free on the same days and decided to spend them together after a long time without seeing each other. You missed your girlfriend so much, as much as she missed you, you both had to hug pillows at night to make up for the fact that you couldn't hug each other.

"Sorry." She turned and wrapped her arms around you, you snuggled into her warmth and comfort. You smelled her and it made your body relax. Dani made you feel at home, always after a difficult day all you wanted was to be in her arms and enjoy her company.

“I missed you so much.” You squeezed the girl and felt a smile against your skin, she pulled away enough to look into your eyes and brushed a few strands out of your face.

“I missed you too, a lot.” you smiled and buried your face in the crook of the girl's neck.

You and Danielle have been dating for 10 months and you can't explain how you were so happy with her, you met at school and the two of you followed each other until you became trainees in different companies and joined your respective groups, but that didn't keep you apart, especially because After a while she ended up confessing her feelings for you, that was probably one of the happiest days of your life.

You smiled as you remembered and your girlfriend noticed it.

“You are smiling today.” you pulled away just enough to look into her eyes.

“I was remembering when you confessed.” you saw the girl laugh embarrassedly and blush, she hid her face in your neck, a habit she started doing whenever she felt a little embarrassed, you love it.

“That was shameful.” you laughed and held her face in your hand, slightly moving away from you. She buried her head in the pillow again and hid her face with her hands, you raised yourself a little over her and held her hands gently.

“It was cute.” you slowly moved the girl's hands away until you could see her face again, your eyes lit up at the sight. The sight of Dani blushing, smiling and with her eyes shining will always be one of the best sights for you, with complete reason, who wouldn't think so?

“I was so nervous.” You smiled and leaned closer. “Are you going to kiss me?”

“What kind of question is that?” She laughed again and moved her hand to the back of your neck, your eyes fell on her pink lips.

“You look like someone who wants to kiss me.” you pulled away and playfully rolled your eyes.

“You have a big ego.” You sat down and the girl did the same, but with much more indignation.

“Excuse me?” the Australian accent almost made you laugh, but of course his character was worth so much more.

“That’s what I said.” she laughed indignantly.

“Repeat.”

“You have a big ego.” You got closer as you spoke and noticed the girl's gaze falling on your lips, you smiled. “Now I think you want to kiss me.”

“Shut up.”

“Make me.”

The girl smiled and you barely processed when she pressed her lips against yours, of course you would never refuse a kiss from your girlfriend, so you quickly pulled her closer, wrapping your arm around her waist and a hand on her cheek, you savored it. the flavor of the strawberry lip balm the girl was using as she tried to pull her closer until your bodies were almost glued together.

You got goosebumps and sighed when you felt Danielle gently run the tip of her tongue over your lips, you didn't delay in letting her do whatever she wanted. Dani managed to wrap you in a trance, forgetting that there was something around you, for you there was only her there and it was certainly the best feeling, her tongue lovingly explored your mouth while she brushed her fingers on your arms, causing you a another wave of shivers and a sigh during the kiss, which unfortunately made the girl break away to laugh a little and look at you.

"Wow." you looked at her, nothing but affection in your eyes, you admired her for a few seconds until you lightly pecked your lips on hers “You are the most beautiful girl there is.”

“You are the reason for my big ego.” You smiled and kissed her cheek.

“I don’t regret it.”

You pulled her into another kiss, this time more intense and perhaps even desperate, the two of you were completely immersed in each other, your bodies fitting together almost magnetically. Danielle's scent filled your lungs as you felt the light taste of strawberry in your mouth, your hands tightened on her waist and you could feel her hands pull your neck further, you both felt in a trance and mix of sensations as you tried have a little more of each.

Neither of you know how long that moment lasted but you, unfortunately for both of you, had to separate, both of you panting and with red cheeks. She placed her forehead against yours and smiled, just seeing her smiling made you feel filled with overwhelming happiness, perhaps you would never be able to describe how much you love Danielle.

“I love you, Dani.” your fingers caress the girl's cheek and you saw her smile widen.

“I love you too, Y/n.”

A) just because they portrayed caitvi and jayce/mel (and even ekko/jinx) in a very traditionally romantic way (kissing/sex/etc) doesn't mean they have to do that w every relationship! different strokes for different folks! i immediately registered the forehead touch they did as a romantic gesture bc it's something me and my boyfriend do in place of kissing all the time, and we've been in a romantic relationship for 6 years. unpopular opinion maybe, but i was kind of glad they didn't kiss, because i thought what did happen was so much more intimate and meaningful for their dynamic, romantic or otherwise.

B) i feel like there'd be a lot less people arguing against the viktor and mel parallels if viktor was a woman. (knowing how this fandom often operates, a lot of them would probably be jumping to push it over jayce/mel bc racism.) nobody with sense is denying that jayce and mel were in love and important parts of each other's story, but you can't deny that making 1-to-1 explicit parallels of jayce's girlfriend and his partner makes that "partner" sound less professional and more romantic every time

C) did i just like. hallucinate way back when s1 dropped and league players were excitedly informing new fans of the jayvik divorce dynamic. did i just imagine the handful of times official league/arcane accounts have joked about these two being together. even if you don't think it's meant to be canonically romantic, the idea of it is nothing new, and they're clearly not against that interpretation at all so???

it's like ppl took that "he's like my brother" line from 1x6 and ran w it as the gospel truth despite the fact that like. i know several queer people who misinterpreted their feelings for another person as familial because they didn't fully understand/accept their identity yet and it was the only way they could justify feeling so close to another person that society didn't expect them to be romantically interested in. hell, i myself have done that! yes it sometimes absolutely can be true, some characters ARE meant to come off with a sibling sort of dynamic (dare i say cait and jayce), but sometimes it's also just short-hand for "closer than best friends in a way we can't get into rn".

Complaining abt Suicide Squad yet again but the fact that they have Waller exposing the alien community to space racist attacks and talking abt how she got to her position through deceit and being a terrible person and stuff is just. Ahsfiwueh JUST SAY YOU DONT KNOW WALLER.

Anyways literally the 3rd mission of the Squad ever (and the first framed as smth Waller picked and not orders from above) was the Squad discrediting and stopping a rogue vigilante who was only arresting POC and funneling white people into white supremacy groups (of which he was the most prominent member) in SUICIDE SQUAD #4. and it's explicitly framed as this mission being personal for Waller that she's hiding from the government bc its illegal like. Guys. Please why are we having her incite (space bc comics) racist attacks now

Also the whole "Amanda got her position through deceit and being a terrible person" NO. she KEPT her position through being shitty and playing complicated political games!!! She wasn't always that way like there is a difference and it is IMPORTANT ppl PLEASEEEE. In Secret Origins #14 we learn Amanda's backstory and she used to be a normal, caring person! Like even after she entered into working in government and politics she wasn't automatically morally bankrupt like please people. She was originally given control of the Squad by Reagan (*sigh* 80s comics...) to distract and get rid of her because she was so successful at pushing progressive social policy in Congress. Acting like she's this static pillar of evil is such a waste of her character and so fucking uninteresting and disrespectful to her arc it drives me MAD.

Like I am NOT saying Waller is all sunshine and rainbows, she fucking SUCKS (said w love <3) but like there's a human being there. It's a progression, she has a character arc like please, DC, please!!! They've fucked up Waller so bad and made her so opaque and uninteresting she can't even be the protagonist of her own story for fucks sake!

Like I don't know how many times I have to scream it until DC hears me or remembers but WALLER IS THE MAIN CHARACTER OF SUICIDE SQUAD. ITS HER BOOK. yet right now she's a cutout to be used as the villain wherever the writers please. i imagine they don't necessarily *need* to be in close range, Mark can probably make one of his little disc things that emits an electric charge that he can throw into the water. but because I'm still on my tidalwave shit. picturing them standing like... back to back surrounded by whatever and tide shields them with this big dome of water and mark puts his hands (big gauntlets) on it to electrify it..... do u see the vision here. ifk man it's like 3am im just making shit up.
