Astrological Associations of the Tarot Major and Minor Arcana - Cheat Sheet

As someone who dabbles in astrology (and lightly in planetary magic), I recently decided to include the astrological correspondence of the Golden Dawn for the tarot in my practice and I found it to be an amazing additional information in some cases.

For example, when you need an idea of timing, or when you need to define a person and their ''vibe'', or add a layer to the meaning of the cards. Particularly useful for Court cards which are notoriously hard to understand.

This is merely a list of correspondences or association and will not go into detail about the whys, because there are many different opinions on this depending on the author and time period. So this is just a synthesized version of what I personally use. I also need to point out that I use the RWS tarot mostly, not Thoth (although it was my first deck and I really need to get back to it at some point). So if you want to dive deeper, please visit the forum thread that has interesting discussions. For Minor Arcana, here from Biddy Tarot. For the Court cards specifically, here is what I found.

Note for the Court Cards: Pages are just their element in the most youthful/undeveloped form. The other Courts have two signs, that's because they rule the last 2 thirds of the signs + the first third of the next sign. It's a bit hard to wrap your head around but it adds necessary depth to their meaning.

✨ The Winx Tarot ✨

I am currently designing a Rider-Waite tarot inspired by all the Winx club seasons (including S8 which I need to finish). I got the idea of making this tarot while rewatching S2 because the codex is in four parts, each associated with a keeper and a school/village, which fit perfectly with the four tarot suits

The Winx Tarot is made up of the 78 traditional cards and probably some additional ones knowing myself (edit: I was right, we have additional ones), I also plan on making a booklet, a box pattern and a tarot cloth (my goal is to be able to print my tarot and actually use it)

Curiosity Box

So a few years ago, I helped tutor some homeschoolers in history and it forever launched me down the rabbit hole of homeschooling content. One thing I think a lot of homeschooling families do really well is making learning fun and communal and that is something applicable to any age.

I've been seeing video after video about people's Morning Baskets and it inspired me to make an adult version. The goal was to give my partner and I an alternative option for hanging out together without screens that was easy to pick up and put back down so it didn't feel like a whole thing. We don't have to use it - it's simply another option.

These were all from our bookshelves - though I do have a reader of Buddhist sutras for recitation coming as well as I wanted a spiritual component. What works well are readings that have sections. Everything here is either a collection of stand alone pieces or written with natural breaks in the prose.

You can select whatever you like, we just happen to have a lot of classics around but there's nothing superior about them or anything. I think poetry is always a solid addition though. Very easy to read one or two of.

More than a few of these came from discount books stores and other budget book options. But if you don't have any money at all, I'd suggest hitting up your local Little Free Library or simply putting in some library books that you don't pressure yourself to read all of.

I also included a Question Jar I made on our first Valentine's Day. It's just a jar with a bunch questions I printed off, cut out, and rolled up like fortunes in a cookie. We keep the old ones so we can use them again and see if our answers change. Basically free to make if you've got printer access. It's sparked so many good discussions over the years and I recommend it.

Currently, we're reading Kafka's Metamorphosis and we're surprised by how darkly funny it is. Much better than we remembered.

I'm considering adding some quick games we can play and some fidgets. I also thought having a feelings wheel and a check in prompt all lamenated up might be helpful since we both struggle with alexithymia.

Live alone? I still recommend this. I grab the Uncle John's Toilet Reader all the time solo. I used to use question prompts for getting to know myself when I lived solo. Throw your tarot cards or a journal in. It's still nice to have your screen alternatives all in one visible spot.

Well, I started learning Tarot like 3 (4?) years ago. I was bored, I had curiosity and just followed the white rabbit hashas.

Absolutely. ANYONE can learn and interpret Tarot. ANYONE. Being intuitive makes some steps easier (not all) but you don't need a "gift" or "witch heritage" to read. All you need is volition, curiosity for study... and probably a deck ahsahsa.

Mmmmmmm, I think the first step must be studying about "what is Tarot?" and along it the history of tarot decks and cartomancy. From the firsts decks to the modern ones.

There are many MANY FUCKING MANY myths and nonsense about the cards and the practice. BOY, OH BOY! And the best way to learn tarot without the hardous work of correcting all those mistakes is being critical from the begining.

For example: One popular myth is "Tarot was born in Egypt, and has the secret knowledge of God Thoth". The truth is that if we check, Tarot was actually born in Middle Age - Renaissance Italy. And it has common catholic and moral knowledge, instead of the mysterious and arcane egypth thing that many occulstists believed (I think Eliphas Levi was the one that started that myth).

Another very important reason to study the history is because tarot cards aren't a mystical object only bound to divine rules. It's a human creation and as all human creations, it's prone to errors and mistakes. The history of the cards is a chinese whispers one hashahs. With every new deck of cards that was printed, sometimes a line in the wrong place, a stain of the wrong color and confusing shapes mixed with some ignorance and self agendas have distorted what was originally depicted in the cards.

I have a post about this and the perfect example that Wheel of Fortune is (somewhere in my blog) hashas.

If you understand what the allegory in the card represents, you will never need a meanings list.

Some other tips:

Don't bite more than you can chew. Have patience, go slowl but focused.

In the name of shit don't put "beatiful art" above "usefulness" ahshas. An amazing deck that you can't read is one that you will never use.

All the "you need to clean your deck", "have a candle and water" or a "cloth of ____ color" and shit like that are all optional. You can read on your bed eating cheetos if you want.

Try to clear your mind before every reading. Relax your mind, you don't want noise inside (and outside) your head to interfere with your reading.

Look for a study group. Part of studying the history is to connect with all the people that were before you in the same path. The old traditions, the advices, the mistakes, their embarrassing secrets ahsahdah. All that good shit. I know some good groups in Facebook but if you can find a group in real life even fucking better.

THE INTUITION. This one goes along the last point and what you asked. The "intuition" is less helpful that people think, mostly because it's very dificult to master and incredibly easy to confuse with desires and prejudices. For example, if a middle class white woman has always a "bad feeling" about black men in the streets, you wouldn't call that "intuition", would you? It's helpful, but if you read what is IN THE CARDS with a clear mind and strong knowledge you will be fine.

Always, ALWAYS, ALWAYS ask yourself

why?

Why someone reads the way they do? Why this shit symbolizes this? Why this card is the way it is?

A FUCKING LOT is lost in tradition without brain. Repeating stuff over and over with no good reason. Always try to learn the why of shit.

And always have respect with whoever you read. Tarot cards are that: Cards. Nothing more than cardboard illustrations. The art of cartomancy is one that cannot be explain in rational ways (that's its wonder), so rational thinking and advice always goes first (the prime example, health readings). Never hold the messages to unbreakable rules. Neither the bad nor the good, neither for your clients nor for you.

Hi all.

Today I reached the end of my first attempt at flight attendant training, a major disappointment. Though the whole process pushed me to the brink, I didn��t expect to be dismissed from class, so I’ve got to do a bit of pivoting while I decide what to do next. On that token, I have heard from multiple people that they would be interested in prints of some of the Sandman tarot cards I have made so far. In which case, I’d love to perhaps set that up. A Brief History of Tarot

While tarot today has been one of the most popular aspects of witchcraft that many outside the community recognize, it has a history that almost no one is aware of. Here’s my best shot at summarizing a brief history of the practice!

Where It Began

The earliest references to tarot date to the 1440-1450s, fall within the territory now defined by the cities of Venice, Milan, Florence, and Urbino. Due to the complicated nature of tarot by this point in history, it’s likely that it originated before evolving to this point. These tarot cards employed standard Italian suits, displaying values from 10-1 and with four face cards (knave, knight, queen and king) for a total of 56 cards. Alongside these 56 is also a fool, the wild card, and 21 trump cards.

At this point in history (and continuing forward to modern day), tarot is a game of trick taking. Even though there are many variations, the rules of the game likely have not seen much significant change since the 15th century! The modern association of tarot with fortune-telling and the occult gained popularity only as recently as the 19th century, and actually has nothing to do with the medieval tarot cards. 

Due to tarot cards originally being crafted through hand-painted efforts, the number of the decks produced is thought to have been very small. It was only after the invention of the printing press that mass production of cards became possible and we saw their ownership spread. The expansion of tarot outside of Italy (first to France and Switzerland) happened during the Italian Wars. The most prominent tarot deck pattern used in these two countries was the Tarot of Marseilles (one of the oldest card patterns used in both card games and cartomancy today).

In the late 18th century, French occultists made unsubstantiated claims about their history and meaning, leading to the emergence of custom decks for use in divination via tarot card reading and cartomancy. Due to this, there are two distinct types of tarot pack in circulation today: those used for card games and those used for divination.

Uses In Cartomancy

The earliest evidence of a tarot deck used for cartomancy comes from an anonymous manuscript from around 1750 which documents rudimentary divinatory meanings for the cards of the

. French tarot players abandoned the Marseilles tarot in favor of the

Tarot Nouveau

around 1900, with the result that the Marseilles pattern is now used mostly by cartomancers.

The 78-card tarot deck used by esotericists has two distinct parts:

The traditional Italian tarot suits are swords, batons, coins and cups; however, in modern occult tarot decks:

Suit of Batons = Wands

Suit of Coins = Pentacles

Suit of Cups MAY = Goblets

Suit of Swords remains unchanged

Court cards are King, Queen, Knight and Page/Jack (in each of the 4 tarot suits)

Fun fact: The terms "Major Arcana" and "Minor Arcana" were first used by Jean-Baptiste Pitois (a.k.a. Paul Christian) and are never used in relation to the tarot card games!

The hermit

Sketching out pose and layout with the use of the reference image, also another reference image for uniform and colouring, one I've used previously on the Magician card.

Lineart, also looking back to the magician card for additional reference as this is the same character. The character is using an M1 Garand rifle and I used the bottom image as reference.

The line art work for the card finished and before any flats. I'm aiming for a dark scenery with the only light being from the lantern, capturing that feeling of loneliness and isolation. The card the Hermit tells one to look within for inner strength laying within you. The cardis meant to portray a lone soldier in no mans land with only a lantern to guide him,

Flat colours and the beginnings of lighting. Lighting is an area I tend to have issues with and so through all these images you will see me tweaking and experimenting in order to get it looking nicer.

Dirtying the uniform and adding the look of blood by adding a series of dirt brown, dark red and some greys, and using a blend tool to smear it onto the uniform.

Experimenting with solid black shading and a soft orange shading on the character. Also worked on the terrain, using the same tools to add a variety of colours to the dirt, as well as attempting to add grey to the path.

Attempting to make the card look darker to give a greater sense of isolation, everything is under the cover of 80% in the background

Adding a light effect to the lantern to make it reminisce a star, a theme common throughout my cards, seen in the draft of the Wheel of Fortune and in the card of The Fool and even the back of the cards. I also went back to the Magician card to add a star of similar shape up ahead in order to bring the theme to every card.

Adding the white border seen in all my other cards, additionally featuring the 3 chevrons (the same rank as sergeant and marks his progression in rank from the 1st and 2nd card) and the number three to mark the progression of the cards. This would be the last card that I could use the chevron as an example of numbering as ranks start to evolve from here.

An attempt at the title for the card, making a foot print with the tile inside. I didn't like the look of it and decided to try returning to the classic ribbon title card seen in many traditional tarot cards such as Rider-waite

I reduced the darkness in the background from 80% to 60% to make it easier to see some of the background.

Reduced it further down to 40% opacity for better view of the background.

Added a white scratchy background to the title scrosll and card, helping it to stand out from the main part of the card.

Notes to Self : Life Lessons : Bits of Wisdom : 07/12/23

My tarot cards for the month of July were The Wheel of Fortune (obviously, it's my birthday month) and the Four of Pentacles which may translate into selfishness, or, my preference in this instance: self-care

Speaking of self-care, my July Leo tarotscope from The Light For All was spot on! I especially liked the bit about "not printing out MapQuest to get from California to New York." Fill your self-love tank!

My daily pulls have been giving me a lot of: self-care, rest/renewal, inner discovery, new changes, and persistence/diligence.

At my last appointment, my therapist emphasized reconnecting with my inner child.

As filters and AI get more and more prevalent, I am more and more happy just being me in my own skin, with my own face. (Though I do love a nice Aden Instagram filter, haha)

I'm 90% sure the Witch's Garden Tarot is late because there was a printing error (Justice and Wheel of Fortune had wrong numbers, some were missing the Four of Cups) but I am still so impatient to hold it in my hands.

As part of my revamped tarot cards series, obviously I had to touch up the wheel of fortune! As a bonus I started playing around with just making it a ‘normal print’ (i.e. actually painting something behind the border)

The changes for those curious are:

1. FINGON’S HAIR omg i’ve hated it since I made it bc back in 2020 when i started this I was paralyzed by trying to make things realistic... also established fandom designs. also the fact that i’d never really drawn either of them. fingon still changes as my mood dictates tbh, but I love this big floofy hair for him

2. the armor. fingon’s became a bit more decorated. i also added fire reflections to both. some hints of red to mae as well. is it fire? is it dried blood? we shant know

(also as a bonus, ive decided that this is both of them towards the end of their lives... both consumed by fire... so yes, it is dried blood)

3. darkened fingons skin a bit bc it was too bright before.

4. improved the fire and other changes

💫The Occult Club

Chapter 2: Two of Swords.

Warnings: Swearing. || Word count: 700

Lunch time had finally arrived, but instead of eating, the four boys were sitting in a table at the library, discussing their next move.

–We can't print this, our reputation depends on it.– Sunoo said. –If we mess up this promotion you can say goodbye to your divination careers.–

Sunghoon looked at him with an annoyed pout forming on his lips. –Look who's being negative now, do you think you can do a better one?– He retorted, low-key taking revenge for the conversation the group had that morning.

Before Sunoo could answer, Jungwon tried to pacify the group, as always. –Wait a second, I know how to solve this.– The boy said as he took a small box out of his bag, opening it to reveal a relatively big set of cards that he started shuffling.

The other three didn't question him as they had plenty of experience with Jungwon's tarot readings; in the past, specially Sunoo, who's area of expertise involved almost concrete answers instead of rather ambiguous ones, would think it was not a good idea to make important life decisions based on the cards, but after seeing just how trustworthy Jungwon's readings are, he has no doubt that the club's leader was making the right decision.

Luckily, no other students were at the library at the time, so Jungwon could focus on the deck, closing his eyes and taking deep breaths. Soon, he divided the cards in two groups, put them back together in the opposite order and took the one at the top. –This is a simple question so I only need one.– He explained to the other boys at the table, who just nodded and looked down at the lonely card resting on the wooden surface.

Jungwon then proceeded to flip the card, revealing a two of swords, reversed. Sighing, he took a different card and placed it on the right side of the first one, the message was a bit unclear so he needed a new card to be sure about it's meaning. After flipping the second card, The Wheel of Fortune made it's appearance, making Jungwon's lips curve upwards into a little smile.

–What does it mean?– Asked Jake, quietly as to not disturb the silence that surrounded the group.

Jungwon, who was placing the box back into his bag, was so excited that he forgot to announce the results. –It's time, let's do it–.

–What are you doing?– The girl's voice startled Jungwon as he didn't see her, too occupied trying to find the end of the tape to stick a poster on one of the school's announcement boards. He looked at her with confusion, the answer was totally obvious, but Jungwon was way too kind to make a sarcastic comment, instead, he took the opportunity to show her the poster.

–Me and my friends are offering divination sessions, we are promoting ourselves a little to reach more people that might feel interested.– He said in a somewhat serious tone, trying to sound like some kind of trustworthy business man.

The girl looked at the poster and then back at the boy a few times, finding the contrast between them a little funny. –I see, is it like some sort of magic?– She took the tape from the struggling boy's hands and used one of her long nails to find it's end, signaling Jungwon to hold the poster up so she could tape it.

–Kind of? It's actually called an occult art, or science even, most divination techniques have logic and rules behind them.– The girl nodded in understatement and reached her hand out to give back the tape, but the moment her hand slightly touched his...

...Please, let me talk to him, I miss him so much...

She froze in place for a moment, without realizing her hand was still in contact with his. Jungwon didn't seem to notice though, his attention was now on his bag, looking for more posters. –Thank you.– Showing a polite smile, dimples peeking, he left the girl in the now empty hallway to look for more announcement boards, not noticing how stunned she was, still looking at her hand.
