I haven't been active on some sites of mine rarely or for a long time since 2020 so I shall stop posting on here altogether. The reason is that I have been feeling overwhelmed with keeping up with many sites these days so I feel like the better option would be to post on a few where I can update more often and that I feel my art will be seen better.
I'm moving and will still be posting on twitter and instagram.
Here is where you can find me, if you are still around and wanting to see my future progress.

If you’re still doing writing jam— NHS and XY come across each other. It’s not a bad time, to one or both’s surprise/amusement/u name it (Doesn’t have to be this AU, but it was inspired by your post about reverse AU NHS feeling lonely about not being able to travel with friends and my gremlin brain was like “Hey, hey you know who else would usually travel solo—”)
For those wondering, I had a couple of twitter threads about my belated realization that by having Lan Xichen still be Nie Mingjue's friend first and foremost in the Reverse Nies timeline, I'd accidentally put Nie Huaisang in an unenviably lonely position, especially if he'd survived long enough for the abdication plan to go through instead of his having been murdered. So this is sort of an offshoot of that AU.
---
Xue Yang scowled and put a hand over his growling stomach, rumpling the note tucked into his robes in the process.
Being offered a place in a great sect was a big fucking deal, especially for someone like him, but invitations didn't buy food, and if he starved before he even made it to Lanling, what the fuck was even the use?
His scowl deepened even further as he cast a furtive glance around the market to see if there was anything he could easily-
-oh, that would do.
He sidled close to the tables set up outside one of the teahouses -not one of the big fancy joints, but definitely more than he'd ever be able to afford- and the patrons who were too busy discussing whatever boring lives they had to notice a bun or two go missing from their plates.
When he saw the next table on his route only had one occupant, he balked slightly. Sure, the guy had his nose in a book like a loser, but probably wasn't distracted enough to-
Without even looking up from his reading, the man pushed a half-full plate of dumplings right into his path.
What the fuck.
This was a trap, right? This had to be a trap. Maybe the bastard was with the city guard, or-
"I can practically hear your stomach from where you're standing. Come sit and eat."
Xue Yang bristled, fingers itching to go for one of the stolen knives hidden in his belt because now he was sure this had to be a trap.
But after an uncomfortably long pause in which the stranger didn't turn around or make any other sign of being a threat, hunger won out.
Almost sulkily, Xue Yang plopped onto the other bench at the table and grabbed the plate. Not giving a shit about trying to eat politely, he shoved two dumplings into his mouth at once, then nearly choked at how good they were. "Fuck."
"Take as many as you want," the stranger said, finally looking up from his book. "I've already eaten my share."
"Your share?" Xue Yang asked around another mouthful of dumpling.
"I was supposed to be meeting someone, but he sent a message that something had come up last minute."
"You don't sound surprised."
The stranger shrugged and laid his book down, then rested his chin on one hand. "It happens more often than not these days. Tea?"
Xue Yang nodded. "Yeah, that'd be good."
The stranger waved to get the attention of a waitress, then held up his tea cup and made a hand signal Xue Yang didn't recognize. The woman nodded and vanished, returning almost immediately with a second cup that she set in front of Xue Yang.
The tea wasn't as sweet as he thought it should be, but it was sure as hell better than the stuff the man who'd given him the sect invitation had ordered. He could even see slices of some fruits he didn't recognize in the pot.
If this guy was willing to share this kind of quality shit with some grubby nobody, Xue Yang thought, then whoever'd had the gall to stand him up deserved to miss out.
He, on the other hand, was going to make good use of this gift horse until it threw him off.

Wed 27 Jan ‘21
Lets start with the twitter/insta/finsta/FUNNY part of today: Olivia unfollowed Harry’s old finsta (was: colazione8), which also changed both its profile picture (was: a kitten, is now: Steve McQueen) and its insta username (is now: scottysakamoto), which set the fandom off in a flurry of speculation over what it MEANS and what could be COMING NEXT? Fans quickly began to do research on what it all means. ‘Sakamoto’ is an old Japanese name tied to nobility, which means “one who lives at the bottom of the slope”, and Steve McQueen is the actor who played Henri in the 1973 film, Papillion, from which Harry and Louis have copied many of their tattoos (as we know not just from, you know, looking at them, but also because the artist that did one of them said so), specifically from Steve McQueen's character. Papillion is about two ‘friends’ named- wait for it - Henri and Louis and their struggle for freedom, and ends in an epic jump from a cliff reminiscent of the one in the end of the WMI trilogy! To add a bit of tongue and cheek to the already hilarious wink - and - nod, the picture is one of Steve McQueen undressing (read: taking his underpants off) by next to a sign that says “Anyone Caught In Here Better Have A Damned Good Reason”, so how’s THAT for subtlety. The bio, which used to read “breakfast, lunch, dinner” in Italian, now reads “SS” (as in...a ship??). Why did Olivia unfollow her gay boyfriend’s finsta? Don’t know, couldn’t tell ya! But I’ll say this: if there was any pretense that she wanted to, uh, see the content of the instagram, that’s as long gone as Henri is from that cliff. That is, at the bottom of the ocean. ANYWAYS, welcome back, RBB, always a pleasure, can’t wait to look back years from now and be like AH SO THATS WHAT THIS MEANT! And, to round out the wonderful insta shenanigans, Louis popped on while H was making profile changes to like Helene Horycke’s new book announcement (Just Sing!). Well, hello to you, too, SBB!
Liam’s third of eight FIFA podcasts dropped yesterday, featuring two Nigerian celebrities, Asisat Oshoala (a player on the Nigerian national team) and Tiwa Amadi (aka Tiwa Savage, a singer with UMG), who were talking about changing their respective scenes in Nigeria. Liam talks about the responsibility he feels as an artist, particularly because his fanbase is made up of “young females”, to “give them a chance to make it in the industry and to play with these people”. His own start was with a very supportive (read: pushy) family, and a father who knew (read: insisted) that he would one day be put in from of Simon Cowell “and see what he thinks of your voice”. Warning: results may Vary! These days, though, Liam treats studio sessions like “a therapy session, in a way...We’re making songs for your moments, and that’s what those songs will remind you of: that person, that time”. Yeah, it’s all these little things that add up to you, Liam!
Niall ALSO had a sports thing drop today along with many golf posts as he shifts into full on sports manager!Niall mode for a minute. Niall/ Modest!Golf have partnered with the R&A (the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of Saint Andrews. Yes. That’s the real name. I promise) to create “a series of future grassroots programmes aimed at inspiring more young people into golf.” You go, Niall! Good luck with that! I’m...gonna sit this one out, but YES Niall LIVE YOUR DREAM! He sat down to chat with amateur golfer Mia Baker about this program, saying he really wants to make the game “more inclusive and accessible”. Well, good luck!
And, in a Very Special Intern’s Lightning Round: harries on twitter pretended to be “industry insiders” only to reveal that, nope, they’re uni students with no connections, Louis replied to Bonehead from Oasis about Dig! (a documentary on two bands’ very different paths to fame), Niall liked Halsey’s Pregnancy announcement (surprise! The old teahouse will have a *real* baby! Also. she’s VERY pregnant!), and Roman Kemp and the Capital One Crew decided that One Direction was better than another boyband bc “larry” (Roman, seeing the oncoming train wreck: “no, don’t say that”), a Harry Styles themed BAR called fine line opened in Argentina (NO ONE does it like LATAM fans!), and various Walls-related memes and tags flooded twitter today after the album surpassed 350 million streams, including, by the way, one of Bernie and his cute little mittens on the cover instead of Louis’ power stance.

Once you wake up, it'll be a new morning (4/7: pictures)
She should have understand, of course, when Chika had squeezed her so hard before boarding the plane to visit her parents. Riko had laughed, had said something like ‘we’re seeing each other in a week, you big baby.’ and Chika had choked off a laugh, had said ‘I can’t wait to go back to you.’ and had boarded the plane.
Riko had been barely out of the airport, walking to her car when her phone had rung with a call from Ruby.
Riko! Is Chika with you?”
“No.” had said Riko. “She’s on her plane now. Is there a problem?”
“Don't…” Riko had only noticed how distressed Ruby sounded. “Don’t go home. Don’t check the Internet. Come straight to Maru’s and I flat, okay?”
“Okay.” She had said.
She hadn’t listened. She had sat behind the steering wheel and had opened twitter to find hundreds of notifications, all about Chika leaving Aqours. She had started the car, brain blank and had drove straight to her flat, the one Chika and her had spent weeks hunting for, to find an envelope on the table. She had opened it, her head swimming with thoughts.
The message is short, concise. Chika couldn’t keep going like that, she had to quit them. To quit her.
Riko’s phone is ringing urgently on the floor. Riko doesn’t pick it up. She doesn’t think she will ever be able to.
Riko had always loved fall. From an artistic point of view, because fall is the perfect season for vibrant palettes and warm colors, but also for the large sweater season, for the morning’s biting cold. Fall had been pretty in Germany but everything seems prettier in Japan since Riko came back; she’s glad she agreed to a walk in a park with Hanamaru and Ruby to admire it.
After so many anonymous years she isn’t used anymore to being recognised in the street, though, and she soon begs her friends to retreat in a teahouse.
“I don’t know how you manage with all those people watching you.”
Hanamaru shrugs, her hands draped around her mug. “It’s not so bad anymore in Numazu, we can’t really complain.”
“You do though.” Says Ruby, eyes glittering. “Hanamaru complains so much lately, she’s becoming a real old library lady. Sometimes she tells the cats to quiet down at home after a day of work.” She laughs, and Hanamaru rolls her eyes with a smile. “But seriously we’re never bothered by fans anymore.”
“Except the occasional weirdo who thinks he can flirt with Ruby.”
“Or the occasional book nerd who thinks he can flirt with Hanamaru.” Ruby is the one who rolls her eyes this time and Riko can’t help but notice how many of each other’s habits they have adopted. She wonders if Chika and her would be like that too if they never stopped dating. She forces herself not to think about it.
“The Internet is wild though.” Comments Hanamaru. “people are all over the place everytime we post something. Some people truly still don’t get that we’re dating. Like. They think we are… What’s the term again?”
“Maru’s still not good with social medias.” Jokes Ruby, earning an outraged ‘Hey!’ from her girlfriend. “‘best friends goal’ is the term. We live together, we hold hands, there’s literally sneaky pictures of us kissing floating around and some people think we aren’t dating.” She shrugs. “That’s twitter for you.”
Riko is still thinking about their conversation late at night and she stupidly decides to quickly search for her name on twitter.
The first tweet she comes across to is a text post tagged ‘chikariko’ She (stupidly, stupidly) clicks on it and finds a complete thread of pictures. On the first one, sixteen years old Riko is looking at Chika like she hung the stars up the sky. Riko’s heart aches.
Riko relives the four years of their Aqours’ life through pictures, from fansigns to live shows to candids. She sees herself growing up, and Chika growing up as well. The last picture of the thread is from a week ago: someone had saw them in the shop they had met in their day at the shrine. The Chika and Riko from the first picture changed so much, she thinks a little sadly, but the way she looks at Chika didn’t change though. Twenty-six years old Riko looks at Chika the same way she always did and she fears maybe she always will.
Riko clicks on the tweet’s poster username and waits for her account to load. She scrolls through personal discussions and random pics and stops when she reads Chika’s name. ‘Aqours’ Chika and You spotted hanging out.’ reads the tweet. The picture attached is a candid of her friends walking down the streets of Harajuku. Riko notices that You is wearing her new merch t-shirt. She opens the new thread.
‘Omg is that new merch? I need Dia’s shirt!’ Says the first reply.
‘Rings too?’ The second tweet contains zoomed in pictures of Chika and You’s hands.
‘You’s ring has a blue gem but Chika’s is pink??? My chikariko heart’ Riko scrolls back to the pictures and zooms until the gem, undeniably pink, takes almost all the screen. She hits the contact button and find Chika’s number, hopes she hasn’t changed in six years.
“Riko?” The phone didn’t even rang twice, notices Riko.
“Did they asked you to wear that?”
“To wear… Do you mean the ring?”
“Yes, Chika, I mean the ring, obviously.” It’s unfair to be so mad at Chika and Riko knows it but. It feels like Chika is mocking her, mimicking her old lovesick habits to sell some more show’s tickets.
“They didn’t.” Chika sounds rushed, and anxious, and sad maybe. “Riko, I swear they didn’t.”
“Why did you wore it then?” Asks Riko, and she hates how wavering his voice sounds.
“Because I miss you.”
“You said that already.”
“No, Riko. I miss you, you know? I miss you. I’ve been missing you for so long.” Riko closes her eyes. “I want to become friends again.” Chika is breathing a little harder in the phone. “I’m in front of your door. Could you open to me? I want to talk.” Riko looks at the door like she’s afraid it’s going to open spontaneously because Chika is on the other side. She remembers the time management booked nine rooms for nothing, the time where her door always opened for Chika. She shakes her head
“Not tonight. Tomorrow, okay?”
“Yeah, of course, sorry.” Chika’s laugh sounds self-deprecating and Riko hates it. “I’m gonna sit there for a while thought, if that’s okay.”
“Okay.” Riko stands to go sit against the door too despite herself. “I’ve missed you too.” She says, so quietly she’s not sure Chika heard it.
“We’re going to make it work, right?” Chika lets out a tiny sobs that makes Riko’s heart clench. “We weren’t only girlfriends. We were best friends, too. Tell me we can fix it.”
“We can fix it. I promise.” Says Riko. She wishes she was half as confident as she’s making it seem.

FORGET ABOUT BYPASS THE WORLD IN 80 YEARS, 80 TIMES
It is a post about why travelling hard and fast inside your 20s doesn’t acquire you a place in the fresh trendy. The reality is you wind up in quarter-life disaster using a bruised passport else. But, maybe you are the exception. Perhaps you could make it for the Forbes Billionaire Number for quitting your full time work to travel the world. And right, care is couldn’ted by you less about the money and also the reputation? You think that genuine success arises from these worldly adventures you've , don’t you? Good if you should be considering shifting to another globe favorite since the last moment I tested, there’s nobody country on earth that passes that currency. Enjoy.

You'll find two guys resting in the cafe. Both within their forties. It's a Sunday that is hot. Although he secretly loves the Lights one is puffing on Marlboro Red cigarette. Another has clothing ironed before arriving at view his old buddy and his hair. They used-to remain next to eachother in high-school; they haven’t viewed eachother to get a very long time.
This evening, they both have their coffees dark, without sugar. The sun shines through the window.
They talk about living and travel.
“Erica loves the teahouses in Kyoto and also the youngsters had a good time at Disneyland and Disney Sea. We wouldn’t have loved these themeparks so much had it-not been for the kids.” The one that is smooth says.
“Ah Japan. I’ve been there 10 years ago. Our ex girlfriend and that I travelled to a great number of areas in two weeks having a train move. You know, the train what’s that called again, in China?”
Shinkansen.” that is “The
“Right, we ordered a pass and found the whole Japan, it had been really worth it.”
As you did although “I did, however, not as. I had been an unhealthy scholar. I did visit France a few times thanks to my partner and the ones earlybird Eurostar tickets. I recall those boulevards that runin direct lines. We used to go then all the way for the Arc de Triomphe, to the Tuileries Garden in the Seine. Each of that to save lots of several dollars! We actually got without passes on the Metro a few times. These individuals relaxing in the counter, care is definitely couldn’ted by them less. Which time in Lyon where we rose within the Fourvière's gates to get a beautiful view of town at midnight, it had been among the many beautiful nighttime sights I ever found. You been to France also, haven’t you?”
“Yes, ofcourse. I practically toured the whole Europe inside my year abroad in britain. I went over the Easter Getaway to Paris Brussels, Amsterdam and thus many places. Europe is indeed beautiful.”
Can’t that is “I remember. You know these travelling if you are within your 20s, you need to do, you kind of group your case and go, it had been a nightmare large amount of enjoyment. Didn't you do the same?”
“Yes it is. That is your favorite area?”
“I don’t remember. To me.”, the same is all looked by them after a few years
“Yes, used to do the trail trip with Curtis and Adam. Get stoned at the backseat and we got switch to drive. I did that after graduation as you understand, folks often feel don’t and somewhat missing know after making college, what to do. It happened in my experience. And so I imagined a very important thing to accomplish would be to drop everything, have a gapyear and get travel.”
Spent time following the school in the US, didn’t you? From the you did a Route 66 route trip.”
“Is that the method that you turn out to be a cook at World’s? After your activities?”
“No, I hate this career, I'd no choice in those days. After a year of travelling, I emptied my lender and spent another 5 year trying to form myself out until I got this work. Now. I finally got promoted for the Head Chef month.” that was last
“Congratulations.”
“Thank you. It had been the travelling, a good knowledge nevertheless. Change of scene, all those countries, alcohol and sex. Can’t think you didn’t do this!”
“No, after college I moved to London, worked through the night as of this coffeeshop on Fleet Street in a team along with the morning. The hours were at the opposite extremes and you guess I handled a lot of outrageous people – those who hurried in for coffee and envisioned it to be performed in a nanosecond simply because they had a million lb offer to close and people frantic individuals who were currently pissed on Tesco-benefit vodka before arriving at the team. I offered them water and named it Sambuca, they'd no concept! I was earned some savings by these years and that I went backpacking across India for 2 weeks. I met Niraj who is currently heading my company’s office in Mumbai up. You found the photographs on Facebook, didn’t you? Erica joined his wedding in India ago.”, fourteen days
“Yes, I remember.”
“Those years were really something. I got healthy too and reduce those additional weight. You know, an excessive amount of anything is never great. You drive also fast, substantial possibility you crash. You take in too much, high opportunity you have problems with indigestion.“
“I guess so. Yes that’s right.”
“I am extremely looking towards my getaway with Erica next year. Only she and I, no children. We will fly to Auckland consider sail and the boat around Hauraki Gulf. We’ll end in Queenstown for stunning countryside and all those glacier valleys where they recorded the Lord of the Bands aswell for the volcanoes, wine tasting in Napier and head to Rotorua. Now this seems unreal. I usually believed Newzealand could be this type of dull place to visit, you understand chock-full nothing else and of wildlife and character. But here is the most great time for Erica. I believe I’ve come of understanding how to appreciate the area of the entire world, the type to an era. And also the capability to manage such top quality vacation truly contributes to that encounter. I wouldn’t of achieving this with other people but my wife.” dream
“I’m very jealous!”
You’ve been everywhere back then.”
“I can’t remember. I had been too young. All of it happened too fast.”
***
Around I love travelling, it is never a thing that I put before my work or would eat in servings that are immoderate. The thought of stopping a full-time occupation to go see-the planet looks surprisingly excessive to me. Well, if you don't have a trust account that feeds for your imagination or are as persuasive as Trump is always to his deluded supporters, all the best trying to convince oneself that prioritising your wanderlust over skill-improving and identity-building day-jobs will get you much in life.
We have our very own ways to cater to jealousy our sloth and counter in some time and all love a bit of enjoyment. But believe me (if not the Father) these aren't exaggeratedly categorized as a number of the Seven Deadly Sins. A reason is the community conscientiously returns the disciplined and the determined, more so if the three are identified together. This is not rocket science. And you also don’t require you to be told by me why.
I guess my position listed here is properly and vacation reasonably. It rushs and don’t concur with the oafish posts and videos online that romanticise vacation in the price of different things that are more important – like actually being great at anything and having meaningful, sustained relationships with people that are actual.
Before going fancy-free and footloose, perhaps you could first learn to remain on your own two-feet. The previous devices up your concern and gifts you enough time of one's existence, the latter grills you enables you to question about your worth and won’t cease before you toughen up and fight it to the surface. At the fight's end, you would earn a named the internal energy. And that’s all you have to to achieve something in life.
Like a religious pilgrim, we are usually searching for this and travelling is a section of it, not it. You want your moves to give your intellectual awareness, to enhance your life, not taking one's life's complete up. Who needs a cache of milestone selfies all over the world that gathers and eventually rests electronic dust inside the Pictures file? All for a short look on developing and Facebook a few measly Prefers from people whose viewpoints you most likely don't care about, actually?
Don’t function as the traveller all of US hate. Don’t be the one who would go to Paris and comes home having a picture of the Eiffel Tower. Function as person who visits Paris and comes back using a story.
With love x

Welcome to 8 Questions with…….
Recently I had a chance to review a wickedly funny short film called “Basic” which was written and directed by our next guest,Chelsea Devantez. Oh yeah, she also starred in it as well. While Chelsea has been compared to Tina Fey and Amy Schumer,I found myself thinking she is like Chelsea Devantez. I found Chelsea to be warm, witty and very gracious as well as very funny. Of all the different acting genres in today’s world,I have to say that comedy is the hardest. It takes a lot of blood, sweat and tears to work your way up through the ranks of being a good comedian. Chelsea has done that and more. Be it working with the famed Second City comedy group in Chicago,to co-hosting a podcast and now becoming a comedy writer on TV where Chelsea is rapidly becoming well known for her own unique take on what comedy is .  It hasn’t always been easy but then again, when has comedy in its many forms ever been easy. While Chelsea has been compared to Tina Fey and the late Gilda Radner,I don’t think that is right…I think Chelsea is her own woman with her own voice and she can do whatever she sets her creative heart on.  You can see her writing talent on display in the hit comedy “Bless This Mess” which stars Lake Bell and Dax Shepard and airs on ABC. Now it’s time to ask 8 Questions with the multi-talented Chelsea Devantez…..
Please introduce yourself and tell us about your current project.
What’s up! My name is Chelsea Devantez, I am a writer, director and comedian. I made a short film called BASIC that was set to screen at SXSW, which of course got cancelled. Now you can see it online at www.shortoftheweek.com and it’s also a Vimeo Staff Pick and a Lady With Lenses pick!
What three things drew you to comedy?
There’s an old adage that comedy comes from pain, and that’s very true with me. I had so much pain inside me that it never even came out as pain, it tipped into comedy and that’s been the way I’ve been able to express myself. I find comedy/sadness is like a water faucet — the water can be really hot but then you turn it a little more and suddenly it’s cold again. I came up in comedy at The Second City, Chicago which specializes in satire. Satire is about turning an unfair situation on its head, heightening it, and putting the punchline on the abusing power, in order to shed light on the underdog. So I found comedy was a way to get people to listen to a political opinion they might otherwise not be open to, or an opinion people would have if they just had all the information. It was also a way to get people to listen to me at all, being a woman, ha! Finally I just love to fuck around and I love to laugh and have fun and now I sound like a Tinder profile.
What is a “comedy troupe” and how does one get invited?
A comedy troupe is an ensemble of comedians whose comedy comes from working together — either writing sketch shows, or doing long form improv, or short form improv, or making videos etc… You don’t have to be invited — you can just create your own if you want. My journey is that I took improv classes from every single improv theater I came near. I met friends in those classes and we formed our own shitty comedy troupes that would perform in basements of sandwich shops. Then as I got better I auditioned at iO for a Harold Team and for The Second City in Chicago and got my first job performing for them, and then I worked my way up at Second City where I eventually did three Mainstage shows.
What is a “Writer’s Room” and how does it work?
A writer’s room is a room of writers who work on one specific project — literally a room that everyone sits in, with hopefully other smaller rooms and offices you can break out into. A showrunner runs the room, and pitches out stories, themes, characters, basically the show they want to make. And that room of people helps them break the stories and create the season, from making episode outlines, to writing episodes, to pitching jokes. It can be a very serious place where you spend 16 hour days meticulously mapping out a story, or it can be a place where people are standing on chairs competing for who can do the best impression of Lindsay Lohan dancing in Mykonos as two other people eat shrimp cocktail and someone naps in a corner with a glass of whiskey.
Do you write for a character or the actor who plays the role?
I think you write for character first, and then as soon as it’s cast, you write towards this new character that the actor created when they embodied them.
In your opinion, why is it easier for a comedian to do drama rather than a dramatic actor doing comedy?
Man, I really tried to articulate this, and I’m not sure I can, even though I do agree that’s true. I personally think more people can be taught how to be a dramatic actor because it’s human to have emotions like sadness and joy and love, and you can tap into them. But comedy doesn’t exist in every single human, there’s only so much it can be taught, and it definitely can be taught, but only to a certain degree. Someone truly truly funny has it inside them.
If offered a starring role as an actress in a show, would you take it and why.
Hm. Really depends if the contract would allow me to still be able to make my own work. I love acting and love being able to take on a role and just focus on that, but I do always need to be writing and making my own stuff, for my own heart and mind to be happy and survive this business. There are stories and points of view that are really important to me to tell and I hope I get to tell them all one day.
What do you like about making films?
So many parts are my favorite. I think the moment everything is set and you’re on camera or other actors are and they improvise a magical moment, is always my favorite. I also love the moment in editing that you realize you made something great. I find that every time I look at the first cut I’m just horrified and regretful and it seems like it’s all garbage. And then there’s always a certain point as you revise and move everything around where suddenly the film you imagined emerges, and it’s a great feeling.
What do you do for fun when you’re not working?
I’m a weirdo and I love working. For me, making art is the joy and the fun I pursue. Being onstage and writing a script are my favorite things to do. I also love to just LOUNGE. My boyfriend Yassir Lester is also a writer and actor on Black Monday and Duncanville, so when we get a break together we love to read, watch movies, hate watch terrible shows, and go to dinner with friends. I also love to play Mario Kart on switch and we just fostered a dog and we’re walkin’ his ass all the time.
Aggies or Lobos?
Hahahhaa you looked up New Mexico sports! This makes me so happy. But I’m gonna have to say LOS Lobos — the band.
The cheetah and I are flying over to watch your latest film but we are a day early and now you are playing tour guide, what are we doing?
I live in Los Angeles but my family is still in Santa Fe, so I’ll pretend we’re there. You gotta go to the farmers market and join the African dance class in the community center. Tomasitas is phenomenal for classic New Mexican food, order your enchiladas Xmas style — both green and red chile, you’ll have to fight through tourists and locals for a seat though. Harry’s Roadhouse is a great little diner and their coffee cake is to die for. Ten Thousand Waves is where you get your hot spring on, and then make sure you walk Canyon road for the incredible art and then stop at the Teahouse and get the oatmeal. Go see a healer, there’s so many of them and then get a burrito and watch the sunset because it’s just like the post cards.
I like to thank Chelsea for taking the time off her Covid-19 lockdown to sit down and chat with us.  I’m looking forward to seeing “Bless This Mess” and taking a chug of iced coffee whenever we see her name in the credits. Anime vs. Real Life: Does After School Dice Club’s Saikoro Club Actually Exist?
It’s all about the laid-back tabletop gaming anime After School Dice Club in this edition of Anime vs. Real Life! Seeing so many German board games getting highlighted in the anime has been quite entertaining for me as a German native speaker, since I grew up with a couple of these. However, we won’t be looking at all the real board games featured in the show here (that could be an entirely different article in itself after all), but as always, we’ll be taking a look at the show’s surprisingly good-looking real-world locations instead. Real-life location-heavy shows have been few and far between this fall, so it’s great that at least After School Dice Club has been dishing out plenty of Kyoto and Kanazawa locations for me to track down. So without any further ado, let’s get to it!
*Images were taken with GOOGLE STREET VIEW (photos I shot myself are marked ‘WD’)
Kyoto is After School Dice Club’s main setting, and the show has been putting Japan’s picturesque old capital to good use. In the first episode, Aya and Miki get sidetracked and end up exploring some of Kyoto’s lesser known tourist attractions, one of them being the Keage Incline in the picture above. Located in the east of Kyoto, the 582 meter long slope with disused cargo railroad tracks is perfect for a leisurely stroll, and has become a very popular cherry blossom viewing spot in the spring, where they usually bloom from late March to early April. This hasn’t been the first time the scenic photo spot has appeared in an anime, as it’s already been in Sound! Euphonium as well.
Not too far off is the Spiral Brick Tunnel (Keage Tunnel) with it’s twisted brick pattern, behind which you’ll find a couple of quaint temples and shrines, as well as the famous Nanzenji Temple.
The former Gosho Water Pumping Facility is located at the end of the Keage Incline.
WD
Even though Miki has been living in Kyoto for some time now, it was also her first time to visit the large brick aqueduct that passes through the Nanzenji Temple grounds, which was built during the Meiji Period, and was used to transport water and goods from the nearby Lake Biwa to Kyoto. You might recognize the aqueduct from a little show called K-On!
This little bus stop is right next to the entrance of the Kyoto City Zoo. Unfortunately, Miki and Aya didn’t have time to head inside and stop by the tanuki enclosure to pay Yasaburo a visit. You guessed it, the zoo was also featured in The Eccentric Family 2.
The lovely Gion Tatsumi Bridge is one of the most charming places in Kyoto’s famous historic geisha district of Gion, and has become even more popular after being featured in the movie Memoirs of a Geisha.
The Awata Shrine seems to be student council vice-chair Ren’s go-to shrine.
Kyoto is chock-full of shrines and temples, so it shouldn’t be too big of a surprise that there are plenty of them in the anime as well. Another one being the Kyoto Ebisu Shrine, which was built in 1202, and is one of Japan’s three major shrines dedicated to Ebisu, one of the Seven Gods of Fortune.
This is also the shrine where Miki meets Aya’s older sister for the first time.
In episode three, the girls meet up for a gaming session in front of the Nakagyo Post Office. Aya seems to be living close by after all.
The broad Shijo Street runs through the center of Kyoto’s commercial district and has been featured in more anime than I can count.
And after seeing all of these faithfully recreated tourist spots, you have got to wonder whether or not the show’s Saikoro Club, where Midori works part time, also exists? The answer is yes, it does! The place is also a board game café in real life, fittingly called Café Meeple. However, it does look quite a bit smaller in real life.
WD
But Kyoto is not all that After School Dice Club has to offer. In the show’s fifth episode, the girls head on a quick trip to Kanazawa, the capital of Ishikawa Prefecture, during their summer holidays. Much like Kyoto, Kanazawa still has most of its original cultural and historical attractions to boasts. The distinctive Drum Gate outside of Kanazawa Station on the other hand, is one of the city’s most recent landmarks, and has already appeared in other anime such as Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai.
WD
  WD
The famous Omicho fresh food market is also where Minko from Hanasaku Iroha goes to shop for ingredients.
Kanazawa’s Oyama Shrine is known for its unusual european-style gate, which was designed by a Dutch architect.
The girls are on their way to the Nomura Samurai House in this image, which is located in the Nagamachi Samurai District.
Kanazawa is also known for its three very well-preserved chaya (teahouse) districts, which can take you right back to the Edo Period, thanks to the district’s cobbled streets that run between the iconic wooden houses. The girls are exploring the Higashi Chaya District here.
And finally, a trip to Kanazawa just wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the city’s main attraction, the Kenrokuen Garden. The spacious Japanese landscape garden is part of Japan’s exclusive ‘three most beautiful landscape gardens’ club (together with Okayama's Korakuen Garden and Mito's Kairakuen Garden), and generally considered to be the most beautiful out of the bunch. And as someone who has already been to all three of them, I can definitely approve of that.

Dangerous times for the press in Kashmir
By Annie Gowen, Columbia Journalism Review, October 3, 2018
On June 14, gunfire rang out in Kashmir, drawing startled journalists to their windows. A valley in the foothills of the Himalayas, Kashmir has for decades been the ground of a bloody feud between India and Pakistan; for most of that time, journalists have covered the conflict unfettered by government minders. Recently, however, that has been changing. In May, foreign journalists--including me, the outgoing India bureau chief of The Washington Post--received an official warning from the administration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi about traveling to “certain areas” without asking for permission; we all knew it was referring to Kashmir. Then a French documentary filmmaker was arrested and interrogated about his time there, as were two Kashmiris--a reporter and a photographer--each accused of having ties to militant groups; one is still in jail. In June, the United Nations released a damning report on human rights abuses in Kashmir. Hours later, gunmen who police claim had ties to the Lashkar-e-Taiba terror group fatally shot Shujaat Bukhari, a well-respected editor at Rising Kashmir newspaper who’d served as mentor to many. His two bodyguards were also killed.
The event was tragic. But to many reporters, it was not a total surprise. “My sense from Kashmiri journalists is that they’re under pretty significant pressure,” David Kaye, a law professor at the University of California, Irvine who is the United Nations Special Rapporteur on freedom of expression, says. “Fear of detention or being shut down seems to be hovering over a lot of the independent Kashmiri press.”
The feeling was shared throughout India, which, this year, fell two places in a global press freedom ranking compiled by Reporters Without Borders, to 138. (The country trails such autocracies as Myanmar, where two Reuters journalists were recently sentenced to seven years in prison for allegedly breaching a law on state secrets while reporting on the military’s abuse of the Rohingya people.) Daniel Bastard, the head of the Asia-Pacific desk for Reporters Without Borders, says that the climate for journalists in India has worsened since 2014, when Modi took power. “Editorial independence is really decreasing,” Bastard tells CJR.
Modi, like President Trump, shows contempt for the mainstream media--adopting the derogatory term “news traders” (i.e. trading money for information)--and prefers to address the nation on Twitter or do carefully controlled interviews with friendly media outlets. In more than four years in office, he has never given a press conference.
His administration has targeted journalists through the media companies for which they work--threatening business interests that require government cooperation, taking down negative stories, and even firing editors. “The government’s tactic is not to pressure the editor but the owner, and owners can decide to bury that hatchet in the editor’s expendable back,” Shekhar Gupta, the editor-in-chief of The Print, an online news site, and the president of the Editors Guild of India, tells CJR.
Last year, Bobby Ghosh, a prominent Indian-born American editor of one of India’s most-read daily newspapers, was ousted from his job after he created an online “Hate Tracker” monitoring the rise of hate crimes. (The site is now inactive.) In May, human rights experts from the UN called on India to protect Rana Ayyub, a reporter critical of Modi who received death threats in an online hate campaign that included a pornographic video. Critics believe that the anti-journalist trolls--who remain active--are part of an aggressive network supported, at least tacitly, by Modi’s party. (Modi follows some of India’s worst harassers on his Twitter account.)
In July, Punya Prasun Bajpai, a Hindi news channel anchor whose show, Master Stroke, attracted 10 million viewers a night, ran afoul of the government when he featured a farmer on his show who said that she had been coached by government officials to falsely claim that her income doubled in a year due to Modi’s programs. The Modi administration denounced the story, which the information minister called “despicable” and “#unfortunatejournalism.” Advertisers loyal to Modi pulled their ads. For days, during Bajpai’s timeslot, the transmission signal of his broadcaster, ABP News Network, went dark. In response, India’s Editors Guild condemned what it called the undermining of “the right to practice free and independent journalism” that has resulted in “some media owners’ inability to withstand political covert or overt pressures from the political establishment and frequent instances of blocking or interference in the transmission of television content that is seen to be critical of the government.” The Guild called the transmission blocking “almost Orwellian.”
Bajpai, unrepentant, tweeted, “You can black out the screen during Master Stroke, but we will convert it into a ‘blackboard’ and write the truth on it.” Nearly a month later, however, ABP’s chief executive officer called him to his office and made clear that he had to resign from his job, Bajpai tells CJR. He reluctantly complied; the managing editor left, too. The head of personnel for ABP News Network declined comment. “When the CEO tells you there is no other option, then you have to leave,” Bajpai says. But it sets a dangerous precedent. “News channels penetrate every Indian village,” he adds. “Now the government is trying to impose its agenda on the news.”
Indian officials and leaders of Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) dismiss such charges as griping from liberal media that enjoyed decades of cozy access to the previous government.
Prakash Javadekar, the former minister of state of information and broadcasting who is now Human Resource Minister, calls allegations that the Modi government is impinging on freedom of the press “baseless.”
When I received word that the government was reviving a long-dormant rule that could require foreign journalists to wait up to eight weeks for approval to enter Kashmir, I was concerned. As S. Venkat Narayan, the president of the Foreign Correspondents Club of South Asia, says, “When a story breaks out you can’t be sitting in Delhi waiting for the government of India. The media needs access.”
I also found myself a target of social media attacks, which escalated when I immersed myself in a project chronicling the rise of Hindu extremism under Modi. I ignored the nasty remarks about my appearance but reported death threats to Twitter--including one from a Hannibal Lecter-type who said I was so “plumpy” it made him want to cut me. Twitter eventually got better about suspending these accounts. Still, the extremism project took a toll. A BJP campaign volunteer I had interviewed texted me asking where I lived and whether I lived alone. “I can’t tell if he wants to hit on me or put a hit on me,” I quipped to friends, but the alarm was real.
In August, my tenure as bureau chief came to an end. I wanted to visit Kashmir one last time, but I didn’t receive the official permit. Using a friend’s wedding as an excuse, I flew up for a brief trip to say goodbye to Ishfaq Naseem, who for many years has been the Post’s stringer in Kashmir. At the airport, I registered at the foreign visitor desk as a tourist, but that did not stop the police from dogging my every move. Tariq, my longtime driver, bore the brunt of it, his cellphone ringing at frequent intervals. Where is Madam now? police wanted to know. What is she doing? Where is the wedding? What is the groom’s name? What is his father’s name? Tariq brushed them off politely.
I was looking forward to catching up with Naseem, who had been my unflappable companion for years in Kashmir. But when we met, over a plate of fried snacks at a local teahouse, I found him despondent about the state of journalism. As waiters brushed by carrying steaming copper samovars of Kashmiri fruit tea, he told me that authorities were arresting journalists and pressing them to become informers. Those who interviewed rebellious Kashmiri youth who threw stones at security forces--known as “stone pelters”--suddenly found themselves in the crosshairs of the National Investigation Agency, the country’s counterterrorism agency. “There’s nothing which works in Kashmir,” Naseem said. Of the government, he added, “They always want their version to be written about. There’s no press freedom in Kashmir valley.”
Naseem had been working as an editor at Rising Kashmir newspaper on the day Bukhari was shot and killed. To protect his own security, Naseem didn’t want to talk publicly about what happened. He has since left the newspaper and returned to freelancing, and started working on a novel.
At the end of our visit, we said goodbye in a parking lot. It was early evening; the sky over the mountains was a pearly pink. Soon, the evening call to prayer from dozens of mosques would echo over Dal Lake. I promised Naseem that I would come back and visit soon. But my permit was never granted.

You can find two guys relaxing within the cafe. Both inside their forties. It is a Sunday that is warm. Although he secretly likes the Lights, one is puffing on Marlboro Red cigarette. Another has shirt before coming to view his old friend, ironed and his hair combed back. They used-to sit alongside eachother in high school; they haven’t noticed one another to get a number of years.
This afternoon, they both have their coffees black, without glucose. The sun shines through the window.
“Erica loves the teahouses in Kyoto and the kids had a good time at Disney and Disneyland Sea. We wouldn’t have enjoyed these themeparks so much had it not been for the kids.” The one that is smooth claims.
They speak about living and vacation.
“Ah Japan. I’ve been there 10 years ago. My ex girlfriend and that I travelled to numerous spots in fourteen days with a train cross. You realize, the train in Asia, what’s that called again?”
Shinkansen.” that is “The
“Right, we ordered a move and observed the entire Asia, it was worth it.”
“I did, but not as extensively while you did. I had been a scholar that is poor. I did go-to France several times due to my roomie and the ones early-bird Eurostar seats. From the those boulevards that run in direct lines. We used to wander then all the way for the Arc de Triomphe, to the Tuileries Garden in the Seine. All a few dollars to be saved by that! We also got without tickets on the Neighborhood a few times. These folks relaxing at the counter, they care . And that time in Lyon where we climbed over the Fourvière's gates to acquire a spectacular view of the town at midnight, it was one of many many gorgeous evening sights I actually observed. You been to Italy also, haven’t you?”
“Yes, obviously. I nearly toured the whole Europe within my year abroad. I went along to Brussels, Rome and thus many countries within the Easter Trip. Europe is so beautiful.”
Can’t that is “I remember. You know these travelling when you're within your 20s you are doing, you form of pack your bag and proceed, it had been a nightmare large amount of enthusiasm. Did you not do exactly the same?”
“Yes it is. Which will be your favorite location?”
“I don’t remember. After a few years, exactly the same is all looked by them to me.”
“Yes, I did the road journey with Curtis and Adam. We got flip to push and get stoned at the back-seat. I did that after school because you learn, persons usually feel don’t and somewhat lost know what direction to go after leaving university. It just happened tome. And so I assumed a good thing to do would be take a gapyear, to shed everything and get travel.”
Spent sometime in the US after the university, didn’t you? I recall you did a Route 66 highway trip.”
“Is that the way you turn out to be a chef at World’s? After your worldly adventures?”
“No, I hate this task, I'd no alternative in the past. After having a year of travelling, I emptied my lender and invested another and a half year trying to sort myself out till I acquired this job at World’s. Currently I’ve been jammed at World’s for 12 years. I eventually got promoted for the Head Chef last month.”
“Congratulations.”
“No, after graduation I shifted to London, worked at this cafe on Fleet Street in the morning plus a team through the night. The hours were in the other extremes and also you bet I dealt with plenty of ridiculous people – those who hurried set for coffee and expected it to be performed in a nanosecond simply because they had one million lb offer to shut and the ones delirious learners who have been already pissed on Tesco-value vodka before coming to the membership. I once offered water to them and named it Sambuca, they had no thought! I was earned some savings by those years and that I went hiking across India for 2 weeks. That’s how I met Niraj who's now currently going up my company’s office in Mumbai. You noticed the photographs on Fb, didn’t you? Erica and I joined his wedding in India ago.” two weeks
“Thank you. It had been the travelling, a great experience though. All those nations, change of gender, liquor and picture. Can’t feel you didn’t do that!”
I remember.”
Years were definitely something. I reduce these extra weight and got fit as well. You know, an excessive amount of something is never great. You-drive also rapid, substantial possibility you crash. You eat a lot of, large possibility you suffer with indigestion.“
“I think so. Yes that’s right.”
“I am really looking forward to my vacation with Erica next year. Only she and that I, no kids. We will fly to Auckland consider sail and the boat . We’ll goto Rotorua too for your volcanoes, wine-tasting in Napier and finish in Queenstown for all those glacier valleys and beautiful country where they shot God of the Bands. Now this looks unreal. I usually considered New Zealand could be this type of dull spot to visit, you understand chock-full nothing else and of nature and wildlife. But this is the most great period for Erica and I. I think I’ve come of understanding how to appreciate the nature, the calmer aspect of the world to an era. As well as the capability to manage such top quality travel really increases that knowledge. I wouldn’t of carrying this out with someone else but my wife.” dream
Jealous!”
You’ve been everywhere back then.”
Can’t that is “I remember. I had been too small. Everything happened also fast.”
***
Around I enjoy travelling, it's never something that I'd eat in portions that are immoderate or set before might work. The thought of quitting a full-time career to-go see-the globe seems surprisingly excessive if you ask me. Well, unless you possess a trust fund that feeds to your dream or are as convincing as Trump would be to his deluded followers, good luck attempting to convince yourself that prioritising your wanderlust over ability-sharpening and personality-building day jobs will get you much in life.
I suppose my point here is vacation moderately and properly. It rushs and don’t buy into the oafish posts and videos online that romanticise journey at the purchase of different more important things – like truly being proficient at anything and having meaningful, sustained connections with people that are actual.
We also have our own methods to appeal to envy our sloth and counter in a little while and all enjoy a bit of enjoyment. But trust me (if-not the Father) that these are not exaggeratedly labeled as a few of the Seven Deadly Sins. Grounds is the community diligently rewards the conscientious the disciplined and the motivated, moreso when the three are identified together. This is not rocket science. And you don’t require me to tell you why.
Before going fancy-free and footloose, maybe you can first learn how to endure by yourself two feet. The previous wraps up your worry and gifts you enough time of the existence, the latter grills you ruthlessly, makes you question about your worth and won’t cease before you strengthen up and fight it to the floor. At the end of the fight, you would get a named the internal power. And that’s all you need to achieve something in life.
To enlightenment” –, we're usually seeking this “path such as a spiritual pilgrim and travelling can be a a part of it, not it. You would like your trips to feed your mental awareness, to improve your life, not taking on the life's entire. Who requires a cache of milestone selfies around the world that collects and fundamentally rests electronic dust inside the Photos folder? All for a temporary look on Facebook and getting a couple of measly Wants from folks whose viewpoints you probably don't value, really?
