At a risk of being controversial: I really dont enjoy the fanon trope of making Hylia a villain. I dont claim people who do that are evil or sexist, there's obivous writing potential there and people are allowed to explore it. I personally however find it uncomfortable, and I want to speak out in case someone else feels the same and would be relieved to not be alone.

Hylia as a character is a ...fairly new addition to franchise. We first learn of her in skyward sword, a game that's story aims to explain the reincarnation cycle's excistence.

I think due to that, and how in botw we see the first canon story that potrays the cycle as bad, its easy for new and old fans to point at hylia and go: I dont trust this. (It doesnt help Hylia is connected to vague christian imaginary and people have their own issues with religion.)

Again I dont blame people for this, some fans are new, some are coping with religious trauma, and some just wanna explore the cool concept that is reincarnating heroes.

However, my discomfort comes from a few facts in this matter that I want to put out there for people to consider.

My first issue is that Hylia is not the person who started the issue. We know the evil force that is Demise existed before the cycle, and for some reason or another Hylia nor the other goddesses could not stop him. Hylia made her plan in order to seal demise away for good, and it didnt work. It just didn't work.

It doesnt matter if demise cursed the reincarnation thing or if Hylia decided it'd repeat forever. The fact is that theres a malicious unquestionably evil force that a goddess tried to stop and failed.

You can dislike her plan all you want, but hindsight is 20/20 and all that—

Okay, breather, I am passionate about this but I know my opinion isnt the objective fact. Maybe Hylia could stop this cycle and try something else, maybe she is inhuman in mind and spirit and doesnt comprehend the horrors she has caused. We don't know and you can fill these blanks as you see fit.

But uhm, this does bring me to my second opinion, which might be harder to take seriously it you're disagreeing with this post already.

I think there's sexism around how fans treat Zelda and Hylia, not helped at all by Nintendo's own actions.

I see people be put off by skyward sword Zelda, perhaps writing her unemphatic and clueless of Link's battles to find her. So much so that we ignore the fact she too was ripped from home, told she has to be someone else, and forced to drag her best friend along so the world wouldnt end. She is a victim too, but why do we forget this?

In my opinion it's partly due to the bad writing of women Nintendo keeps doing. Zelda is written so... perfect. Nintendo refuses to aknowledge her flaws as a person and instead is like look how pretty she is, she apologises and Link forgives her, so you should too! ...When, if you dont do so, it feels like you're being manipulated or dismissed whenever she is on screen.

An issue that repeats with Hylia as well. With many Zeldas in many games.

To react to that tonal dissonance with writing Zelda/Hylia as evil is... normal, I think. I don't blame people for feeling that way.

But,, That seems unfair to me. A female character with potential to be complex and good was failed by the writers, and now we as fans continue from that point with making her even worse.

I dont dislike fans who do this, you're just participating in fandom the way you see fit, but I cant enjoy it, it makes me upset. These women are not evil, Link isn't the only character being hurt deeply, and if you could please consider female characters beyond how they hurt ya boy, I'd be so relieved.

I just... I think its worth asking yourself why her. Why you don't or do like Zelda. Engaging in things you love with an analytic eye is genuinely good for you and the media you're enjoying.

How and why do you worship pagan gods? I've been looking into paganism lately and Im curious how ppl practice it.

This is a pretty hard question to answer in some quick and snappy way, also i feel as though i should answer this in detail and maybe explain abit of baseline witch beliefs if your considering paganism or to any of my followers who might!

So to be clear, paganism is not a religion. Its the act of a craft + religious beliefs attached to it and influenced by it. Even the baseline is different for ever individual.

Baseline, its based on the idea that anything and everything can give off some form of energy. Like an aura. Say the feelings you get when you touch a tree, look at the moon or put your hand in moving water. Witchcraft is the act of moving these energies towards a purpose. Like moving water energies and invoking water-related gods and goddesses to make it rain, invoking money/fortune spirits/deities blessings to increase your wealth, etc. Doctors making medicene or simply the act of cooking can be considered witchcraft if they invoke it to be so!

If you practice witchcraft, then youre a witch! Congratz! That legit all you need to be a witch lol. Witch is kind of used a general catch-all term, though kinda feminine implying. However ive seen ppl refer to male witches as wizards, enbys as witchs and female witchs as wickesses. Witchcraft isnt inherently tied to religion, you can be an atheist as well as a witch though its uncommon. Witches dont have dogma or a set moral code. ( real quick, dogma is a set of moral beliefs and traditions that come with being a follower of any religion/practice. An example of dogma would be the ten commandments for Christians or the Halakhah for jewish people. P.s dont qoute me on the name for the Jewish set of laws as im not jewish. Plz forgive me dan and leon if i got it wrong ;-;)

Paganism is the act of being a witch and having religious beliefs! This simply means you are an * insert religion* witch. You can be a jewish witch, a muslim witch, a Buddhist witch and so on! You've probably heard of the celtic based witch religion Wicca. Wicca has dogma and set path ( that i disagree with but if it floats ya boat, 👍).

I personally identify as theo-fluid Hellenistic-based witch/wizard. This means that i believe in multiple god/goddesses/beings of power from multiple religious systems but i mostly focus on greco-roman gods/goddesses. Theres dragon witches, kitchen witches and so on! However please keep your practices out of cultural appropriation boundaries. Dont smudge if you arent indigious american, buy dreamcatchers from actual natives, dont get your witch shit beyond incense, candles, crystals and basic tools from big corporations( fuck sephora and their white sage killing asses) and please stay tf away from witchblr beyond sigil blogs.

They will teach you wrong and make you feel invaild for either not putting your own magic up for peer review or not coming from a long line of witches. They also hate cursing for some reason. They are cowards.

Now that ive given the base info about paganism, ill answer your question in a bit more detail.

Everyone's practices for how they honor their gods/goddesses are differnet. Be it only spoken prayer, offerings kneeling infront of an alter, the time(s) of day they pray and so on! Its very individal.

Personally due to being disabled, i try to pray to my gods/goddesses at least once a week minimum and twice a day maximum. I perfer to kneel infront of my alter with small offerings but as long as i have my pendulum necklace on me, i can pray at any time any place if i truely need to. I personally perfer to pray one of two ways and i have 2 prayers i normally do. I have a day/morning prayer and a night/evening prayer, their contents i perfer to keep to myself for personal reasons. I perfer to either pray in english and again in french or ill sign it. Then ill record my feelings, who i felt connected with and how they felt and so on, in a prayer journal but not always for lack of spoons.

The why of it all is abit... Muddled. I always felt a draw to paganism so i never truely questioned it. I always felt the energies, interacted with spirits and felt spiritually close to the devine in some sence of the word. Ive always had a sixth sence about what was going to happen and so far, all my tarot and pendulum readings have been spot on. Maybe its a gift? ;^^ idk it can be stressful oftenly when you feel the general vibe of a place and can tell something horrible happend there or is there. Im currently kicking myself to cleanse my place as i keep waking up with new bruises that stick around for a day or 2 that i don remember getting. If that dosent work, hello doctor!

Small ramble of sorts. The topic touches lightly on symptoms of mental illness but im not inferring it directly. Mostly im going to ramble about natural phenomena and witchcraft/divinity. Or more to the point people who think they have divinity enough so to control the weather.

Alrighty, first things first. What lead me writing this was a series of observations in the religious and occult communities. Im part of a few covens and pagans sites online and irl friends with very christian people. I can draw ven diagrams all week on how some thoughts and concepts overlap due to just the quirks of being human thinking about the divine.

Now, im not pointing fingers or casting judgement on any one religion. Im talking about that person, that practitioner/parishner, that utterly believes they can control weather, natural disasters, and other phenomena with their MIND. *play twilight zone music*

I cant prove a negative. Im not saying there arent people that may have the ability to influence the clouds in the sky but c'mon. You did not create or direct the hurricane that one time and you did not bless the burning rainforest with rain clouds.

Whether or not you have divine connections, you most certainly, ms. Im-afraid-of-my-mexican-neighbors or mr. I-have-no-ambitions-outside-of-reliving-the-past, do not have that kind of power. Ya dont. If you did have that kind of power you wouldnt know me. I basically live under a rock, the only reason you know me is because your rock is next to mine.

Humility is a virtue. Whether you're pagan or otherwise. You must dip your head to the grand title of nature and bow to the raw display of power of the gods. Or at least give an acknowledging nod to forces greater than yourself.

Its scary, i know, believe me. I have seen miles and miles of flames upon the mountain skylights when i had lived in california and had been lost in floods stretching out across the landscape to the distant horizons in hurricane ravaged texas. I have watched bridges fall to quakes and piers be swallowed by the ocean. I have canoed through tree branches and received neck cramps tracing flood lines along skyscrapers.

I dont feel comfortable with the idea that an indifferent natural force or a bored god had done any of that. Less comforting to think that this is evidence of the grandeur of a human conscience.

These powers are outside an individual mortals control. Clambering to feed your ego by shivering with euphoria and proclaiming "twas me!" Is really fucking annoying to the rest of us worms.

Imagine if nature cared about that insult. Imagine if a god heard that. Historically and mythologically, more people die in horrid ways because of that imperial hubris toward such a divine happening.

And to my athiests who are like "i can beat your god up because they dont exist", there are people that, despite their belief in the gods or god, believe they wield the power of them and can ruin or save peoples lives by thinking really hard from their shower.

Not kidding. Stop that. Doing that helps no one and stunts your spiritual and intellectual growth. 🙄

Bad things happen and the best we can do as little nekkid monkeys is show compassion to one another in times of havoc. Waving a crook towards the sky and screaming obscenities takes up time and energy where you could be preparing for the next disaster or cleaning up after the one that had just passed.

Sup bro, i posted about this but you mustve missed it so here i will explain it in detail. The year is 2018, june, just before summer. I have signed a contract to say im not allowed to talk about if i meet celebrities on a temp work placement at a very famous theatre in central London, but fuck you rules. My last day on the job about half an hour before I have to clock out and I am serving customers giving them their tickets for the show. "Have a wonderful experience ma'am" I smile and call the next person over. "Excuse me, I wonder if you could help me" w very posh voice says as i look down to grab more tickets. I know that voice. I look up. There in all his toad looking glory, standing right fucking infront of me, literally less than two hours since i was listening to him on my phone is David Gilmour, his wife Polly and his youngest daughter Romany (who is the same age as me). Im speechless, I begin to shake like a leaf and stutter. "Urhm, y..yes" i reply. "I got this ticket but its on my phone not printed, i dont know weather to collect it at box office or whats the deal here" he pulls out his phone. I take it and look at the QR code. "D..did you order the ticket in your name?" I ask, thinking he may have changed it for privacy reasons being you know.. David Gilmour. "Yes" he replies. Before even asking his name because i fucking know who he is. I run off to the named ticket box and look for Gilmour. Not there. I run back, casually tripping over a chair as I go and as I get to him he grins that grin he does on Live At Pompeii when he says "you can trust us". Obviously realising that i know who he is and im not taking any prisoners. "Your name isnt in there so im gonna go out on a limb here and say, this code here can be scanned by that girl" i point to the girl at the door to the hall where the show is "with the scanner". "Thank you" he replies as i pass his phone back "are you ok?". He was asking about a pretty nasty burn i got on my hand from baking about a day earlier. "Yeah, its nothing. You're great by the way" i smile "have a wonderful evening". With that he nods and walks off down to the café. Due to professionalism and being on the job, i couldnt ask for an autograph or ask him any questions but i swear on my dogs grave it happened. "That was David fucking gilmour" i literally have to pace my breathing as i say it to my colluege. Then my brain turns to jelly (e.g. i freak i bit and i clock out) as soon as i get out the building i group call about 6 of my family members and tell them what happened (they know of my obsession with PF). To be honest, i hate to get a bit religious on your ass but. I really think seeing him that day by accident was a sign from somewhere to keep going with my life, to carry on living because something good will happen. Because what are the chances that the girl from the poorest part of london with the bright red hair and the burn on her finger would meet the David Gilmour. Out of nowhere just as she loses faith in everything. Even her own fandom. Something powerful was at work that day. Maybe it was my mother sending me a sign i dont know. BUT he protects dorian. do they like their skyhold pajamas? - YAS. are there any insults they find to be especially offensive? (i.e. “knife ear”/”rabbit” for elves, “oxmen” for qunari, ect.) - knife ear do they enjoy being the inquisitor? - at first he didnt fancy it but he grew into it.
