Why Chloe Deserved A Miraculous
Its a thought that's been stewing in my head and the more I thought about it, the more I realized it was true. Chloe was entitled to a Miraculous.
From a Doylist Perspective.
When there is conversations of if Chloe was entitled to a Miraculous is always presented from a Watsonian perspective. For those who don't know, Watsonian means the perspective of someone inside the story. A character. Doylist is the perspective of those in the real world. The author and audience.
The problem I see from fandom discourse is how often people don't actually consider the tools in a story. Often they take a Watsonian perspective, talk about what is right and sensible and should be how things work if this was a real situation. But the thing about stories is they have messages. They have tools and metaphors and themes to help display these messages. Sure, shows are about entertainment, but a story always has some kind of point. It may not be a moral lesson, it may not be some grand philosophy, but any story worth telling says SOMETHING. It takes a stance. The Fast and the Furious is all about doing cool stunts with cars, but it also has a message of doing things for family because if you just want to see cool car stunts, just go watch cool car stunts, but no, people want at least a little humanity in the car stunts, so there is a message of family. Sharing is caring, do your best, the heat death of the universe comes for us all, the messages can be vast, but there's some point of emotional reality to invest us in this specific media.
If we talk about Chloe and the Miraculous from a Watsonian perspective, no, she is not entitled to a Miraculous. No one is entitled to an object of power. Not even Marinette nor Adrien are entitled to their Miraculous.
But superpowers aren't real. Superpowers have always been a tool to emphasize a point. The stories of superman only focused on his powers are boring, but when you tell stories of how he tries to fit into a world that is not made for him, stories of how much he loves this world despite how easy it could be to be cruel, it gets interesting. The reason superhero comics started is there was a want to show that there can be incredibly powerful people who choose to be good. To choose to make the world a better place.
Superpowers made just to be cool and show off are boring. There is only so much you can watch a fight with a cool power before it gets dull and repetitive. But you relate the powers, the struggles of using the powers, to the person wielding them, the story has a lot more staying power. The powers say something about the person, and is part of their development.
And honestly, Miraculous is a good case for why this is important.
Because good god, most of the superhero team is boring.
And I don't just mean because they're good people, so there's no spice, though that's also true, but because the powers aren't really used to emphasize anything about the character. Max has portals. Why? His mom wants to be an astronaut, but we never really hear about Max wanting to travel. Doorman is a better example of a portal hero because he loves going to other places and learning about them.
Now portals are good for a tactician....except Max is never the tactician despite the fact we know he's brilliant and is good at video games. He just does as he's told by Ladybug for where he should put his portals. Its so close, but its not utilized.
And that is the case for most of the superheroes. Like the bones are there, but nothing is properly utilized. Sabrina is definitely a dog, good at getting things, and is in fact well practiced in recognizing what things may or may not be important. But we've never actually gotten to focus on her BEING a superhero, she only had a small cameo with the power, basically. Same with Ivan, really. They're pretty perfect for their powers and it suits their personalities, but none of it is EXPLORED. And that's the case with most of the heroes.
Juleka and Rose were pretty good at using the Miraculous to develop more of someone's character and emphasize a strength about another in turn. These are good hero episodes because we learned more about them and their journey.
Kagami's first episode with the dragon showed off more of her, such as she could be reckless, which is new information, but we learn a lot about her without it, and nothing new beyond that.
Luka could have actually been incredibly good because the snake both emphasizes a big part of him, and something he needs to work on. Luka is someone who steps back and watches. He observes. However, he has a problem where he often is too willing to step back. But with the snake needs someone who can observe AND act. So its a Miraculous that uses an important part of his personality, but could have also helped him grow.
And the rest are just...nothing.
There is a little for Nino and Alya. Nino is definitely more bold about defending his friends than he was at first, and Alya learns to be better about secrets, but these are the primary secondary heroes. We should have seen a ton of impact and development due to them having the Miraculous.
Here is the stance Miraculous should be taking in their story.
The desperation of those trapped and the power of being given good options.
Most of the Akumas are people who are trapped. They feel powerless. They are desperate to escape their problem and feel like they have no proper recourse with things are they are. How accurate this is varies, but this is how they feel in the moment, and that is what Gabriel preys on. These people agree to the deal because they don't feel like they will be helped any other way.
Ladybug and Chat Noir are meant to bring hope to those who felt hopeless and chose a terrible way to try and escape. They are support. They are a hand people desperately need.
So by that same token, the Miraculous should be a good way for people who feel trapped to be given an option, OR give those people the ability to extend their own hands to help others.
While it doesn't have to every time, it should often be the case those who are given a Miraculous; A, dealing with a huge problem and the Miraculous helps them solve that problem, regardless to the Akuma being related. Like if Juleka was working on trying to speak up even if the Akuma wasn't her parents and the Tiger still helped her do that. B, they are related to the Akuma and why they feel trapped, so they are working through their own issues with the important person. Like Rose when Juleka felt guilty. Or C, the person wants to find a way to help in general and kind of go how it went with Nino becoming Carapace. Where they were trying to be that hand a person needed, and earn the Miraculous, and that helps them on their journey to provide more support and help.
But its often it is someone they know, but them being the hero doesn't REALLY matter. Penalteam, the people were just there, these specific people didn't matter. Why did Zoe need to be Vesperia? Anyone could have taunted Chloe and she got turned into a banana real fast, her being the Bee didn't really bring a lot, to the bee, to her, or even to Chloe, and then she proceeded to just not bring much as the Bee, to the story, or herself.
Now part of this problem is that Marinette is not allowed to not learn a lesson, and has to be the one to save the day. These heroes do have skills. They have things they could be good at. But often....the plan is just what Marinette says. These heroes are not allowed to have agency.
They can't make decisions on their own.
Often times, they're just bodies being told to do the power without the ability to make the decision how and when. Sometimes they let the heroes do things and make decisions, but nine times out of ten, its Marinette who says who does what and when and her mental health is degrading because of it.
The Akumas are stories that always at least tell us something about the person because we see what problems hit them hard. There is something to learn, a bit of conflict to develop from.
The Miraculous should be following that trend, but in a positive way, but...doesn't.
All that being said.
Chloe was entitled to the Miraculous.
Because here is the stance Miraculous takes.
Someone is trapped in a situation and chooses to lash out violently and while that violence can not be permitted to continue, the heroes offer their support so the victim can feel like they have another option.
This is the story of Miraculous crystalized. People who feel alone and helpless are easily convinced to hurt others until someone is willing to help them despite this harm.
Chloe is the story of Miraculous.
Akumas are a metaphor.
And Chloe is the reality.
A child who is alone. Who feels trapped in her situation. Who doesn't know what else to do. So she does the only thing she knows how. She lashes out. She hurts people. She keeps them distant because then it doesn't hurt as much when they leave, or when they treat her like dirt.
Chloe is an Akuma personified, but her problems are brief moments. They're not a bad day that someone took advantage of. They are ever present and continuous and more over, reinforced to continue.
Chloe knows being a brat gets her what she wants from her father and was never taught to not be like that. Because he didn't discipline her, because her mother acted like that, because all adults around her was staff. Making demands is what she was TAUGHT and learned, through observation and guidance.
A behavior she continued to do with kids, and she found out teachers responded to the same threats and was never properly stopped. Other kids, reasonably, didn't want to deal with her, or submitted to her like Sabrina.
Chloe was not never taught how to be good. She was, in fact, very much taught to NOT be good. Her parents both set a terrible example. Her father is a corrupt politician. He may spoil her, but he we know he bribes and blackmails people, plus, you know, abandoned his daughter and technically kidnapped Zoe. This is not a paragon of a man. Then there was her mother. But she had a choice, listen to the man who had to weasel and cheat and play back handed games to get what he wanted, or the woman who got anything and everything she wanted...of course she would try to be the woman who seemed to get everything her way.
Because if her mother got everything she wanted, if Chloe was like her, maybe she could get everything SHE wanted.
Except it wasn't working.
But Chloe wasn't taught it was because she was cruel. She just started to believe she wasn't GOOD ENOUGH.
Maybe if she was as great as her mother, it would work.
By the time she would be old enough to recognize that wasn't how the world worked...well, by then, most of her peers hated her.
And here is something I think goes under the radar about Zoe.
Zoe knows how to act like Chloe. Audrey didn't blink at it. Zoe defaulted to the same behavior as Chloe. Zoe said she put on an act and she was tired of it.
Zoe WAS CHLOE.
And we know what happened with Zoe. Zoe stopped acting like Chloe. And then she got bullied. People were mean and cruel and put cockroaches in her locker and she only had one friend.
I'm sure that's why Zoe moved to Paris. Zoe went to her mom because she wanted a clean slate. She wanted the bullying to stop.
Even then, she struggled to stop. She defaulted to her habit, and we see that she CONTINUED the act around the hotel for some weeks after, because it was a hard habit to break.
But then...
Zoe got support. A hand was held out to her. Marinette gave her a chance, and so did everyone else, and Zoe took it because she wanted to be herself and she wanted to stop being cruel. Of course she's nice. She was given the space to be so.
Chloe is never given that support.
Chloe doesn't know how to be kind. She doesn't know how to be nice.
But the greatest tragedy is Chloe does know how to be GOOD.
Out of all the heroes, besides Chat, to a lesser degree Alya, and Alix and Luka by nature of their Miraculous, Chloe shows the most agency as a superhero. All the other heroes have their hands held by Ladybug. She tells them what to do, to an overly specific degree, and they are just bodies to use a tool. Chloe? Chloe acts on her own. To good and bad effect. Discounting the whole Queen Wasp break down, just when Chloe is actually acting as a superhero, she doesn't wait for Ladybug to tell her everything all the time. She calls out to her father, which was a mistake, but then there is every other time she's Queen Bee...
And she's fantastic at it.
Miraculer, she almost had Mayura's Miraculous.
Star Train, she gets people away from the Akuma.
In Bakerix, she's the last the to leave the train car.
In Ladybug, she's defending Sabrina.
In Style Queen, played Style Queen in an effort to find a way to save Adrien.
In Heroes Day, she is a great teammate. Keep in mind, everyone on the team knows who Chloe is. Ladybug was desperate and doesn't fully trust Chloe as a general rule. Rena Rouge and Carapace definitely don't trust her at all. Chat Noir is the only one who believes in Chloe as a person.
And yet, throughout the entire fight, Chloe is keeping up and picking up the slack with everyone else. She fights, she keeps civilians from being hurt, her synergy is on fire despite the lack of trust. When Rena Rouge and Carapace go down, she is quick to try and protect them and even after two EXTREMELY dangerous Akuma show up by way of her parents, who are both gunning for her real hard, she holds her own for a while and even then, she had to be mind controlled to stop and to feel negative emotions. It took FOUR AKUMAS gunning for her specifically to corrupt her, akums who are made to mess her up mentally to boot. When they confront Gabriel at the end, she prepares venom without being asked, to have a back up for taking him down. She makes decisions and when she was trusted to act as a hero, they are largely good ones.
And she never once complained about the mental hardship of what she went through. Because that's the thing, all her times as Queen Bee are super intense. They are her loved ones she's fighting, they are incredibly powerful Akumas. She fought a frickin' army.
And everyone...
Just insults her.
She risked her life for people and no one cared.
She fought her family and no one cared.
Chloe doesn't know how to be nice. Nor kind. But she was so good. And while the next day, people appreciated her, it was only a day.
And the tragedy is Chloe didn't immediately go back to being a bully. After Despair Bear, Chloe's bullying habits took an extreme nose dive. We only see her being unreasonably cruel a few times. After Maledikator, the only time is when she bullies Aurore and when she teamed up with Marinette, but also Marinette was with her and they were both doing it for fear of losing Adrien reasons. Not reasonable, but also not just to be cruel and honestly, her plan was fairly benign. She wanted Kagami to leave, not even humiliate her. And even Aurore is because Chloe was reaching the point she did in Miraculer where she was doubting Ladybug's trust in her and as she is want to do, she lashed out.
Most of the time when we see Chloe, what we see is her bragging about being Queen Bee. Which, sure, isn't a great thing...
But better a braggart than a bully. And when things go wrong, she tries to use her status to help reassure and guide people, which is actually a pretty good idea. Akumas are attracted to negative emotions. If she can reassure them, then less likely of them getting akumatized. It may be bragging, but it could help.
Chloe may not have been picture perfect nice, but we literally have an entire classroom full of perfectly nice people. She may not be humble, but bragging is not a damnable offense. But Chloe was legitimately trying to be a better person. She put herself in between others and danger. She had faith and belief that there were solutions. Even without the Miraculous, she tried to help people.
She may have wanted appreciate and gratitude for it, but what's even sadder is she didn't require it.
Chloe believed in Ladybug for a long time. She believed Ladybug would trust her again. She believed she could be given a Miraculous again, and all on her own, ALL ON HER OWN, she was trying to be a better person.
Its actually amazing how good Chloe was being despite the fact no one was helping her.
Because that is the thing.
Zoe got support and help.
Chloe didn't.
Every. Single. Time. Chloe tried to do something different, something not cruel, she is rejected. She tries to join the art club and she's mocked out of it. She tries to be class representative, a job no one else wanted for years, and she loses it as soon as someone did challenge her. She auditions, legitimately, for a music video, with eight years of practice, and she loses it because she isn't nice enough.
She stops bullying, tries to be a reassuring presence, and she is treated with suspicion and derision.
And still.
And STILL.
That isn't what breaks her.
What breaks her is the realization the only time where her efforts were appreciated was taken away. And even then, she holds onto the pieces. Holds onto hope that maybe she would be given a new chance.
Her parents are in danger. The reason she was given she couldn't be a hero is because she and her loved ones would be in danger.
Except her loved ones were in danger.
She was in danger.
Not having a Miraculous didn't change anything. It didn't keep them safe, it didn't keep her safe.
And its only then, after months of no one believing in her for more than two days, of no one holding out their hand, helping her, supporting her, believing her, with the one person she thought DID believe in her proved that she didn't believe in her, and couldn't even give her the safety that not having a Miraculous was supposed to bring.
For months, Chloe only thought Ladybug believed she could be good.
Adrien wanted her to be less cruel, but Chloe knew her being good wasn't necessary for him.
Nor was it for Sabrina.
But Ladybug?
Ladybug needed her to be good to believe in her, and she thought Ladybug did.
Chloe was able to largely bite back her desires to lash out at people based purely on the fact one person, ONE SINGULAR PERSON, needed her to be good, and believed in her ability to be so. It got her derision. It got her suspicion. It got people comparing her to villains. It got her dismissal. But she still tried. She still believed.
A person who didn't really believe in Chloe very much.
And there is also the Watsonian argument that Marinette doesn't owe it to Chloe to help her improve AND THIS IS INCREDIBLY VALID and honestly, in a perfect world, it would be great if it was Adrien who helped Chloe improve.
Or you know, Zoe. Someone who has a clean slate with Chloe and understands where she's coming from and could help her.
But no, this is the Marinette Has To Solve Everything Show.
So from a Doylist view, it IS Marinette who has to help Chloe, but also the Watsonian problem could be helped if it was CLEARLY ESTABLISHED that Marinette knows she doesn't HAVE to help Chloe, and people aren't pressuring her to do so (coughBustiercough) because that is a bad message...
But Marinette can CHOOSE to help her and make that clear.
Because Marinette has seen a lot of Chloe and could understand that she really does just need a little more help. That Chloe needed just a bit more support and help. And, you know, didn't actively encourage Chloe to please her abuser.
But we're going from the Doylist view and we can solve the Marinette being the one to help Chloe problem by not having it be Marinette, but LADYBUG.
And this?
This is why I say Chloe was entitled to a Miraculous.
Because Chloe is the reality of the stance of the show, and so helping her problem with the metaphors would go a long way.
You see, Chloe doesn't know Ladybug is Marinette. And Marinette knows being Ladybug means being the bigger person. Ladybug believes in people. Ladybug helps everyone she can. Its not about the victim helping their bully, its the superhero choosing to help someone who NEEDS HELP.
Chloe is stuck in her situation. Her mother will always be emotionally abusive. Her father will always be an enabler. She can try to change, but no one will BELIEVE in her change. She will be derided and mocked and treated poorly because no one is willing to give her the chance to grow, and they certainly won't help.
Frankly, its a miracle that Chloe's Akumas are so merciful.
Because Banana Queen is the most destructive of Chloe's Akuma forms. Most of Chloe's Akuma forms don't care about HURTING people. They care about WINNING. She either wants to win or for people to just listen to her.
But give Chloe the Bee Miraculous, and suddenly things change.
Chloe feels like she has OPTIONS as Queen Bee. She doesn't feel she has to meet her mother's expectations as much if she's Queen Bee. She has people who trust and depend on her. At least right after she saves people, she gets a little praise, a little belief.
And people may say being a hero for glory and attention is a bad thing, but the thing is, Chloe's need for glory and attention is about being ACKNOWLEDGED. As feeling like people value and care about her. This is a BASIC HUMAN NEED and she doesn't know another way to get it. Its not like she's demanding physical things for her heroics.
She just wants to be appreciated.
By giving Chloe a Miraculous, she is given the tools to try and be good. She is given an escape from her situation. She is given SUPPORT in her efforts because the other heroes have to support her.
And over time...
That trust will grow.
Because what Chloe doesn't know, all her classmates are the other heroes.
And suddenly, all her classmates will see her as a different person. They will see what she's like when the chips are down. How much effort she's willing to put in. How seriously she takes the job.
Is she still a braggart? Sure. Is she still rude as hell? Absolutely.
But she will risk it all to help people, without asking for anything in return except a little faith.
Chloe is entitled to a Miraculous.
Because her story without a Miraculous is a story of a little girl who no one wanted to help, who were unwilling to offer her help because she lashed out while trying to survive a situation she couldn't escape, and because it wasn't super charged by a terrorist, she was deemed unworthy of it and instead deserving of isolation and constant emotional abuse.
But with a Miraculous?
Chloe is a girl who, when given a little faith, a little trust, a little help, returned it tenfold. Who puts her all in trying to be the best hero she could be. Is she imperfect? Sure. But she's giving it her all. (And frankly, she's spicy and it makes for entertaining character dynamics. You can have a character be a jerk and good, tsunderes are popular for a reason.) And as she gets more trust, as she gets more help, as she is offered that hand of help over and over again, she would continue to improve.
And as she's given power, she uses that same faith to figure out how to offer her hand to others. To help them. To spare them the same pain she suffered.
Because that is what given to the Akuma victims. They are given a little help, and a little power to break free of their magically abusive mindsets.
To have someone go from the continuing the cycle of abuse to someone who would save other people from that?
That is a real superhero story.
Chloe is undeserving from a Watsonian perspective.
But she's so very deserving from a Doylist perspective.

Your Heart
Bridget Hearts 🩷 x reader
Kinda changed a bit but I still hope you like it!!!
Still open for more requests my loves ♡
"Bridget. You're better than this. I know that what happened was hard for you, but that was ages ago" Ella pleaded desperately trying to stop her ex best friend from taking over Auradon.
"Hard? It was excruciating, I relive it every day since" the queen coldly exclaimed.
"We all do. She was like a dream, but she is gone now. We have to move on Bridget"
"Don't you dare speak of her in my presence! You did not care back then." The Queen yelled out. "Now kneel" she gestured with her hand.
"I will never kneel to a tyrant"
"She's denied a royal order. What do we do about that, darling?" The Red Queen turned to her daughter smiling ear to ear. But don't let it get you. It's not the nice kind.
"Look, all you have to do is swear allegiance. Is that so hard?" Red butt in to Cinderella, she knew it was about to go down.
"If it means compromising everything I stand for, yes."
"Who are you loyal to Red? These strangers or your mother? Now make me proud for once" Bridget took a hold of Red's face, grinning like she was about to win. She was of course.
"Come on Bridget, even your daughter knows it's wrong, she can't do it" This sentence made something snap in Red, like a force pulling her towards the bad, a little devil sitting on her shoulder. But she felt vulnerable. Did she really want that? Her heart thumped in her chest."Treason! She's guilty of treason, and that means off with her head!" Wrong, it felt so wrong, to the point she felt dizzy, the whole world spinning.
"Exactly right, my dear! Off with her head!" The royal guards began walking the other queen, her daughter desperately trying to pry the others away. Red coming straight at her, her spinning head did not help in trying to take out the pocket watch and steadying her posture.
But she did, and what happened next was not what she expected..
~•~
"Now great! We traveled 20 years back in time! Fucking excellent Red" Chloe yelled, angered as her mother was just sentenced to death by the very girl standing beside her
"Calm down, little goody princess pop star. I meant to sent us back just a few minutes so i could take my mothers cards, but it took us here. I certainly did not mean to take you with me" Red remarked, thinking hard about why she ended up in this exact moment.
"Well, we're here now, so might as well undo whatever made your mom so evil" Chloe paced back and forth, clutching her sword tightly in her hand, something she did often while being stressed beyond heavens.
"And how exactly are you planning to prevent murder, Chloe?" The princess of Wonderland asked sarcastically. Because truly, how were they supposed to do it? They didn't know who did it, how, when, and where. It was all a mystery to them. It's like this death was completely erased from existence. No one mentioned it. After all, why would you reminisce such a sad and sudden death that became a start to many years of misery and tyranny of one of the cruelest rulers known of."We could at least, i don't know...try? My mom said it happened after a talk about flamingos?" What? Was she joking, really?
"Let's just look for our mothers for now."
And thats what they did, what brought them to this exact moment.
"Hey my love, how are these cupcakes you talked about?" A strange girl sat down on one of the benches in the school halls looking at Bridget, Red's mom, with such loving eyes just begging for an ounce of touch from the pink one. She must have heard her pleads as she sat down on her lap, throwing her arm around the others neck.
"They are great! I saved you one or two...plates" Bridget grinned. She could never do too little for the girl she was so desperately in love with. Although they claimed to be just bestest of best friends, too shy to admit they literally wore each other's hearts on their chests. "These flamingo feathers you went so out of way to get for me really turned out excellent as a topping." She smiled widely once again. Something you could never grow tired of. Her enchanting eyes and magical pink hair drawing you in.
"Who is that?" Red whispered to Ella, Chloe's mother.
"Y/n Cupid, Bridget's childhood best friend"
"Aree you sureee they are just that?" Chloe questioned as she smiled sheepishly. "It surely looks like more than that to me,"What a sight, seeing the cruel Queen of Hearts (who is now such a sweet and kind soul) be so lovey dovey with another person. That alone made Red's head spiral. Her mother was not mad evil? She was good-hearted? And she had a lover? That is something she would never grasp after all those years of fake smiles and cold orders.
"Mhm, they are. Although I strongly suggest them every day to make a closer move. They won't budge like stuck-up little kids."
"Well lovely, I will try not to eat them all in one sitting." You continued, taking Bridget's hand in yours, softly swiping your finger across her palm. Her breath hitched. It was something you'd done quite often, but even the slightest touch from you made her head dizzy and the goosebumps on her skin to pop instantly.
"Y-You, I" She stuttered out, nothing more coming in to her clouded mind, you giggled at her cutness, what resulted in you being hit by her in the head "Be careful, try not to turn into a flamingo, they are awsome but only one at a time sweetie" She kissed your cheek quickly, she was feeling bold, usually she'd just boop your nose or something. A kiss was a big declaration from her. She loved physical touch, she loved hugs, grazing or intertwining hands. But a kiss was something she preserved only for her one and only.
You were her one and only.
"Okay, it was nice meeting you, Red and Chloe, I'll be going now. I have a shit load of homework from Professor Merlin. Bye Ella, see you later B!" You sent them a kiss and dissappeared in the halls.
"Bridget!" The lovesick girl jumped upon her name being yelled out "She is so totally in love with you!" Chloe squealed, not being able to keep her excitement in, taking the princesses hands and jumping around."No, no. We are just friends. She would never look at me that way" Bridget sadly sighed, playing with her heart necklace she got from her 'friend'
It was a truly beautiful gift, just a necklace with a heart, but if you were to look at it from the other side. The necklace was made from silver, crafted by Hephaestus himself, the red heart was a gemstone made differently, it was a part of the glass heart of cupid.
Your heart.
You gave her your heart!?
How could she be so stupid not to recognize what a grand gesture of love it was?
You basically devoted your whole life to her, vowing to love her forever and always.
You gave her your heart...
"See, that's what I'm talking about!" Frustrated Ella butt in. "They act like a couple, but when you point it out, both of them are sooooo dumb to realize how the other is fe-" She could not finish because Red and Chloe were long gone. So was Bridget, even quicker.
As Bridget realized what an oblivious idiot she had been, she took a run after you, clutching the necklace in her hand. After a minute, she found you in the gardens.
The sight of your unconscious body made Bridget shiver, freeze, almost as if she had stepped foot on the Boomerang Nebula. She fell, her weak knees hitting the blood-stained ground. The once beautiful, white pebbles, turning maroon as the red liquid pooled out of the corpse.
A terrifying, horror like scream was all that could be heard...
No one would imagine a dead body with a spear shot right through the heart in the broad daylight while waking out on the school grounds. Hazed eyes, once full of life, staring longingly into the distance. And the strong grip of the hand, oh so soft, still remaining on the spear. The white button-up shirt peppered in small hearts growing more and more burgundy with each passing second.
She could not believe it. You were gone.
The love of her life
She could not stop the anger mixed with hurt and unimaginable sadness growing in her heart as she watched her lovers lifeless body. She threw a fit with the intention of hurting everyone in the mere distance. Luckily, no one was there to be hurt. Throwing her cards up in the air, shooting fires, and demolishing basically everything she could see.
Bridget broke down crying. There was nothing she could do to bring her life back, her life back.
As Chloe successfully shielded her princess from the fires and chaos thrown by her mother, Bridget fell on her knees once again. They stared at the scene before them.
They cursed themselves that they weren't able to stop the killing. They had failed.
Red felt absolutely terrible seeing her mother so heartbroken. She saw only the worst part of her. She never even thought there once was this sweet, kind, thoughtful, and such a loving princess within her. She wondered of all these good times she could have, with her other 'mom' too. As she was wishing she could've come sooner to stop this nonsense, however would she have done it, Chloe ran to her mom's younger version. Dropping on her knees just a couple inches away, wrapping the pink girl in her embrace. So strong, so comforting.
Bridget laid her head on her chest, sobbing uncontrollably, gripping Chloe's blue shirt so tightly she was most likely to rip it apart any second. That is truly what she needed, a warm presence holding her so she wouldn't go mad.
"Cry Bridget, I'm here for you," and that's what she did. She cried till she was out of energy to do so. She just stared in the distance, thinking of nothing. There was nothing left for her. She took ahold of her lovers hand, vowing to herself she'd never fall in love again.
And she'll keep your heart, just how you have kept hers.
Not all stories have a happily ever after, even if we try to change it

BIG ANNOUCEMENT
Hello all! It's certainly been a while but I've come with good news!
There have been characters of Affinity that have been sold without others knowing, this has led others to get rather annoyed since they only think one person can buy these characters...
... Well, that ends today!
There are characters of Affinity that I don't have any use for anymore, the old designs from 2014-2020 that I don't use in my current AU have no use to me anymore, and I don't want for them to go to waste without a good home for them to have, which is why I've decided to announce that all the old designs from 2014-2020 that I don't use in my current AU are now available to be sold to the public!
Though, these designs have had a big impact on me, and I would like to say that I don't wish to sell them for anything less than $30. Please keep that in mind!
Thank you so much for reading, I hope these characters will be able to have good homes!
Please ask, I will make a long list of characters that have been sold to some people, in the meantime you can ask and I will let you know if it has been sold or not
list of SOLD characters (still going to be updated
SOLD!!! SOLD!!!
If some buyers want to put characters they already bought, let me know!

I’ve always wondered why I’m so harsh on Zoe outside of just her character being used to it’s simplest degree (ie just being a replacement for Chloe) and I think I get it now.
Zoe is a perfect example of the “good/perfect victim”. The writers literally used her to downplay Chloe’s own abuse experiences by saying “See? Here’s a teen who was also abused at school and she turned out to be a sweetheart who’s so much better than Chloe in every way” blatantly ignoring She and Chloe possibly different home lives because Zoe had a different father.
As someone with experiences of toxic home lives I dont appreciate it when abuse gets undermined especially parental and Zoe being used as a mouthpiece for what I guess can be summed up as abuse apologia made me think so lowly of her as a character.
Thoughts?
I actually just got another ask about my thoughts on Zoe, so I'll schedule this to post the same day since it's topical. In that post, I talked about why she bugs me and it's because she reads like the main character in an escapist self-insert power-fantasy fanfic. Once again, to be extra clear, those types of fanfic are FINE! Power fantasies and escapism are extremely valid things that are popular in professional works, too. For example, they basically dominate isekai and romance stories, but Zoe showcases exactly why characters like this only work as main characters in escapist fantasies. If you try to make them work as a normal side character, they just feel weird. Make them the main character or don't write them. Since she's not the lead, why is she even here?
I didn't consider the perfect victim angle in that other post, but now that you've brought it up, I'm wondering if that was indeed why she was introduced. Is she here to show that someone could have Chloe's mom and still come out to be a good person? The writers do seem really obsessed with that idea as we see from this moment in Derision:
Marinette: (as she goes down the stairs) I just got three more hours of detention on Saturday, and it's all because of Chloé. Rose: Don’t be mad at her. She's this way because her mother left her when she was young. Mylène: So did mine! And you don't see me having fun bullying Marinette. We've got to do something about your pants. I'm afraid they might be ruined for good.
This isn't even why people think that Chloe is the way she is? It's not just because her mother left. It's her father's terrible parenting, her absurd wealth, and the fact that her mother didn't actually leave. Audrey is still very much around, she just ignores Chloe most of the time and insults her on the rare occasions when they're in the same place. That's a recipe for disaster.
Sure, some people are lucky enough to come out being a good person in spite of their messed up home life and those who come out as jerks don't get a free pass to be jerks, but it's not like it's a total shock when bad home lives lead to people being jerks. The bully with a bad home life is a stereotype for a reason.
I'll once again point to The Good Place as an excellent show to watch if you want to see a realistic journey for a Chloe-like character. A journey that acknowledges the struggles that come from a messed up home life without giving the characters a free pass to use that home life as an excuse for their actions. Part of their journey is accepting that they have to stop blaming their parents and take charge of their lives.
Miraculous could have done something similar if it wasn't a formula show. The potential was there. But it is a formula show and the writers apparently don't think that Chloes are capable of change. I get that childhood bullies suck, I had one! I am very happy that she's no longer in my life, but I also don't think that she was incapable of change. She just needed to be put in the right situation where she accepted that change was needed and that never happened when we were kids. Has it happened since then? I don't know! Some people never change, but that doesn't mean that they can't change. Most of us are capable of changing. It just takes the right catalyst and a lot of hard work. People rarely start changing out of nowhere. It almost always has an inciting incident.
That's actually part of why Zoe's story feels so shallow. We're never really told why she was the way she supposedly was pre-canon or what caused her to change into her canon self. This is the backstory we get in Sole Crusher:
Zoé: I'm... really sorry about today. I thought that if I did everything Chloé wanted me to, she'd accept me. I just wanted to meet my family's expectations. Which is why I left New York in the first place. At the boarding school, I was playing a part; being someone else, hoping they'd accept me. But finally, I just couldn't anymore. That's when everyone turned against me, and one day, I found roaches in my locker. They all said I was a loser. Maybe they were right. I get that I'm different, and... I'd understand if you guys didn't want me as a friend.
So Zoe lied about everything and, when she revealed that she was a massive liar, everyone turned against her? Shocking. Why wouldn't they welcome a confirmed liar with open arms? That's so weird! (That was sarcasm.)
Seriously, why are we acting like Zoe was the wronged party here? This is literally Lila's story save for the motivation behind the actions (as far as we know). There are times when motivation matters, but this is not one of them. If you've spent weeks (months? years?) lying to people, then they're not going to trust you when the lies are revealed. Maybe you'll get lucky and someone will be willing to hear you out and give you a second chance, but that's an act of kindness. It's not an act of basic human decency.
This speed run story probably wants us to believe that everyone at Zoe's school was evil and that Zoe had to fake a personality to fit in, but I don't believe that. Writers, if you want me to believe it, then actually show us her story! You had a full New York special to do it! Why didn't you make Zoe the lead there since the specials love to introduce new characters to hog the screen? Have Zoe's school be the American school they go to and have her personality change be caused by Marinette and Co. so that Marinette and Co. trusting Zoe in Sole Crusher actually makes sense instead of feeling like something the plot forced on them! This is the scene I'm talking about, btw:
Marinette: (confused) I don't understand. When I met her this morning, she was so nice. Alya: That's crazy. Chloe's influence is so toxic that she's managed to corrupt her sister in a few hours. Alix: We gotta get her out of there.
Why are you all so sure that Marinette's two-minute-long interaction was the "real" Zoe and that her new personality is all Chloe's fault? Why are you acting like it's impossible to fake being nice but faking being evil is totally reasonable?
It really feels like this show is trying to say that people are either inherently good or inherently evil. Zoe was inherently good and just played at evil, so she's fine, but Chloe is just evil so she's doomed. That is really not how the world works, but now that I think about it, it does match the way the miraculous are often used. There are "evil" and "good" versions of some of the powers instead of just powers that can be used for good or evil. I've never liked that because it makes no sense. Why do akumas need a good form? Why is there an evil transformation phrase? Why do the miraculous even have an evil mode? Who programed that in???
While were on the topic of things that were possibly done just to show that Chloe is evil: is this why they made Jagged Stone an absentee parent to Luka and Juleka and then made the "twins" totally cool with it? Is the show trying to say, "Look! Luka and Juleka are nice! Therefore this is a Chloe problem. Stop blaming her parents!"
Who knows, but your idea certainly has merit. I wouldn't go so far as to claim that this must be what's going on, we don't know and I don't like to treat educated guesses as fact because they're not, but the text certainly has evidence to back this read.

Hi! Sorry to annoy you, but can you maybe write a story about Maleficent and Hades's other child? She ( or whatever gender ) is Mal's sister, and they genuinely have a good relationship, but she grew up with Hades. She and Hades were like best friends. She had black and blue hair to match him and her mom. She was neglected by Maleficent, because Maleficent always paid more attention to Mal and in turn it caused a lot of arguments between her and Hades, causing their split up. Fast Forward, the reader, Chloe, and Red go back in time, and the reader sees her parents so in love and happy. She is filled with bitterness seeing them, but also longing, cause she never really got to know her mom. She tried keeping her distance and helping Chloe and Red. Little did she know, she caught her parents attention, who were trying to figure out the confusing person with dark black and blue hair. But the reader mostly got the attention of Maleficent. I don't know what else, except maybe make it angsty, but in the end make it sweet. Again, I kept saying 'she' but it could be gender neutral, if you want of course! I've never requested a story before, so this feels weird. But thank you! :)
this is definitely a long one but it's okay lol ; also dw about sending long reqs (that goes to everyone) but maybe use the small font cause I do go back and look over when I'm writing / it's a bit of a scroll for others but it's totally okay!! ; but I can definitely try to do this, this seems really cool! ; thanks for requesting, hope you enjoy! ; this is kinda one run-on sentence but I really don't care 😔🙏
HADES & MALEFICENT ; a sense of belonging
summary ; as you go back in time to stop qoh's coup, you see your parents at merlins academy and catch attention of them, though they don't know who you are
warnings ; language, mentions/talk of parental neglect / arguing / stuff like that
track ; lonely is the muse, halsey
word count ; 1.2k
masterlist
You didn't go a day without blaming yourself for your parent's breakup. You were never enough for your mom. Never evil enough. You never listened. You were your father's kid, you guessed. Thankfully, you and your sister were still close, your parents never having put a hole in your relationship.
Though, seeing them here, like this, before you and Mal, it made your heart shatter. They were highschool sweethearts. You never knew that.
They seemed so in love, they seemed happy. It was like your entire existence ruined them entirely. Forget the underlying issues between them, you were the problem. You'd always be the problem.
You shouldn't have come. You couldn't fix history. You didn't even know why you lunged at Red while she tried to disarm Chloe. You saw that pocketwatch, you should've assumed it would do something. Though, you wouldn't blame Red, she had good intentions to stop her mother from becoming a tyrant. Messing with time and history would come with consequences, though, you just didn't know how yet.
But it didn't matter in this moment.
As you stand before Maleficent and Hades next to Red and Chloe, all you can feel is the numbness inside your heart. You could feel your heart constricting inside your body, like it was actively shattering here and now. They stand behind Uliana, her hand held in his.
It didn't matter to you that you were one of the first VK's to attend Auradon Prep, or that you helped outsmart Uma and save the king, or that you helped Mal's final decision to open up the Isle for good, you'd forever be a windchime in the window, catching mean, snarky comment that was thrown your way. You would always reassemble yourself to fit the perfect view of how your parents saw you. To Maleficent, a gift from Hades himself, sadly. To Hades, the best kid he could've ever asked for, even if he didn't agree with every decision you'd made in life.
You would just exist to decorate every miserable moment of their lives, including the past now, apparently. You were the muse to their world-renowned painter, the lonely muse who would forever be forgotten after being discarded, ar least to your mother. You couldn't begin to process what awful time paradox you were creating here.
As you walk away, following Chloe and Red back to the dorms to plan, your head hangs low. The past few minutes of actions had been erased from your kind as you blacked out, trapped in your thoughts. Your eyes has glazed over entirely, blindly following the duo you'd been dragged to the past with.
Your mother hissed at the audience who'd witnessed Uliana's fall into the enchanted fountain, something she did to scare you. Thank God she was a lizard now. Hades held his ember tight, his eyes fixed on you as you walked away.
Lonely is the muse.
You didn't know how or why, but you'd caught the attention of your parents.
The following afternoon, you decided to separate from Red and Chloe while they went to visit Bridget in her dorm, needing to borrow some powerful cookbook. You needed some air. You felt so heavy and held down here.
You run a hand over your navy blue and black hair, sitting in front of the fountain alone. You wanted to cry but there was no effort, no amount of emotion, left to do so.
You hated your mother because of how she treated you. You hated because you grieved the fact that you never knew her. She didn't tell you bedtime stories of her wicked past, she didn't teach you spells or how to be evil, you didn't know the damndest thing about her. You were always just a figment of her life to be tossed aside for her golden child, Mal. You spent years trying to become everything she'd ever wanted, and failed. Over and over. You were never enough for her.
You'd caught her attention here though. You were perfectly out of place for her to finally bat an eye to your presence. How ironic.
She slowly approaches from behind, her head slightly tilted, one arm crossed over her chest, her other hand held close to her face. She didn't know what to say, she just wanted to know who you were. You seemed so distantly familiar.
You quickly look over your shoulder, sensing her presence. She always felt like that, she always gave you that sixth sense. You walked on eggshells your whole life because of her. Her presence alone sent shivers up your spine.
"May I ask who you are?" she asks. "Where are you from, exactly?"
You blink, knowing you can't answer wholeheartedly. You couldn't tell her you were her kid, Y/n, one of two that she had with Hades on the Isle of the Lost.
"My name's Y/n. I'm... a transfer student. Far away place" you nod, quickly finding an excuse to give her, hoping she wouldn't see through you.
She slowly nods. "Your hair... I've never seen one of you with such a unique color. It doesn't look very... hero-like"
You glance back at Hades, who leans against a wall out of earshot, tossing his ember about. "Uh, yeah," you awkwardly chuckle. "I wouldn't say I'm a hero."
"Oh?" she smirks, quickly thinking to recruit you for whatever reason.
"I'm not staying for long," you quickly reply.
She nods, her smirk fading away. "Nice meeting you, I guess"
You nod, watching as she spins on her heels, returning to Hades, their hands intertwined as they depart, leaving you at the fountain alone again. You watch as they walk away, feeling the last fragments of your taped-together heart ripping apart.
All you wanted was to save that picture in your mind forever. To see them so content, to see them so proud of themselves. You really did ruin them. You'd ruin them in every timeline, and you couldn't fix it. You'd forever live knowing you broke them apart.
You did that to them.
And all you did was watch.
You knew you belonged with them, you knew you were supposed to be evil and follow in their footsteps. But you failed the moment you were born. Something just threw you off to her.
She couldn't ever love you.
At least she could pretend for Mal.
But what did you get? Nothing. Not even a thank you for trying to give her a second chance in that coronation hall. Not even a glance. You were invisible to her.
But here, you weren't invisible.
She wanted to know your name.
That was the most you'd ever gotten from her in your twenty years of life.
But you couldn't do anything. You couldn't ruin this for them so early on. You couldn't change their story to try and fix yourself. It doesn't work like that, you knew that. But something deep down inside wanted you to just reach out and make the most of it while you could.
You just wanted to know her. You just wanted to feel the warmth of her cold voice congratulating you for stealing candy from a baby or for scaring someone away, or lighting them on fire. It didn't matter. You wanted to make her proud. You watched on for years as Mal was her center of attention. Nothing you did was worthy for her to be proud of.
But here? You could make a difference.
A difference that wasn't worth making.

Bridgetxfem!oc
Just like in all my other fics, OC’s a lovesick mess.
"Uh... why is that girl staring at my mom?" Red gestured towards a brown haired girl, dressed in an off white blouse, royal blue spencer, and matching blue trousers.
"I think that might be the daughter of Merlin! Oh my god my mom always told me stories of how impressive her magic is! This is amazing! I get to meet Thee Athene! She's an even better wizard than her dad!" Red blinked, trying to process this information dump.
"Okay... why is she still staring at mom?"
"Oh... I don't know, c'mon! She's moving!" Chloe quickly followed Bridget, who was coincidentally going towards Athene, Red followed after a quick glance at Chloe's behind.
"Who blessed her with such a charming ass." Red mumbled to herself, catching up to Chloe who looked at her with a hum, asking what she said. "Nothing."
"M'kay, oh, look!" She quickly whispered, nearly buzzing in excitement as they neared.
Red noticed how panicked the girl looked, eyes wide when she realised Bridget was approaching.
"Oh! Hello Bridget, anything I can do for you...?" Athene trialed off, seemingly enchanted when Bridget stopped in front of her, tipping the plate closer to her.
"Of course! I could never refuse such a sweet offer from you, my heart." Athene picked up one of the pink cupcakes, which quickly turned blue at her touch. "Such a shame I can never seem to enjoy your magic at its fullest." Red arched an eyebrow, what is up with this girl, she couldn't quite put her finger on it.
"You're such a tease Athens, you know you can just repress your magic so you don't infect the cupcakes with it!" Bridget beamed, stepping closer to her, Athene's smile seemed to dim a bit, but she quickly leaned closer to the pink haired girl instead.
"I can't seem to control myself around you it seems." Yep, Red knew it now, she was watching some girl flirt with her mom, amazing, just what she wanted to see.
"Silly girl!" Bridget booped Athene's nose, magic sparkles going from pink to purple to blue.
"Silly me..." the girl pushed her gold rimmed glasses further up her nose as she straightened up her posture, clearing her throat.
"Who are your new friends? Don't suppose they're the new transfers?" Chloe smiled and nodded, seemingly excited to have Athene know about her, Red only questioned how she knew.
"I know because my familiar told me... one of them." She waved her hand and a crow landed on it, eyes blue like her magic.
"Oh hello Rodrick! Would you like a treat?" Bridget smiled at the bird, who hopped from Athene's hand onto her forearm.
"Here you... go!" Bridget fished a dog-?- treat out of her pocket, holding it out to the familiar, who took it gratefully.
"You are so nice to my familiars, I'm almost saddened by the fact you won't come to the dragon stables with me, we could always go to dinner afterwards?" This girl had some nerve, asking out her mother right in front of her. They don't know you're her daughter here.
Bridget giggled, smiling at Athene as Rodrick remained on her arm. "You're so nice Athens, but you know I can't, i'm busy rehearsing!"
"I could always join you for your dance? We could make it into a duet? Maybe go matching...?" Ella snorted behind Bridget, giving the brunette a pitiful look.
"No silly! I'll have to change the whole routine!"
"But-..." She cut herself off, sighing, "you must be right, always so remarkably good at seeing the small details." Bridget smiled before she moved onto the next person, Chloe sending her a sorry look as Ella patted her back.
"You're not getting through to her like that miss vague hints, you gotta go like 'fuck it! I love you more than-' blah blah some poet shit, you're good at that right? Don't tell me you'll forget how to speak again?" Athene looked away from Ella, Chloe's eyes nearly falling out at her mother's foul language.
"It was one time, and she was wearing a really pretty dress-."
"Still happened!"
-
"Oh my dear, she's wearing the skirt again! She's-!" Athene really wasn't as cool and relaxed as Chloe had envisioned her, the girl was now roughly tugging on Ella's arm, who looked like she wanted to be anywhere but there.
"What's wrong with her skirt?" Chloe asked with a frown, it seemed normal, just a plain pink skirt with a silver heart chain, Ella shot her a look for even asking that.
"She's so pretty..." Athene continued with a dazed stare, nearly collapsing as she lost all feeling of her body.
"Is this that true love thing AK's always speak of?" Red whispered to Chloe, who blushed at how close her lips were to her ear.
"I don't know, i've never seen someone have this big of a reaction to anyone, well, maybe my parents, but even they usually aren't this bad." Red snorted, wrapping an arm around Chloe's shoulders and bringing her closer, watching as her mom approached them.
"Wassup B." She spoke up first, the girl looking up at her with a smile.
"Good morning everyone!" Bridget stood in front of them with her dazzling eyes darting between all of them, eventually landing on Athene, who's eyes widened before she tried to act unbothered, nearly stumbling over Ella when she tried to stand up straight.
"Good morning Bridget-" She cut herself off when she felt a tentacle touch her back, looking over at Ella with an apologetic smile before she was snatched away by a tentacle around her waist.
"Hi Uliana!" Bridget smiled at the sea witch, who had a glare pointed back at her and Athene dangling in the air a bit behind her.
"Bridget." She near growled out, stalking away as Athene waved.
Bridget sighed when they rounded the corner, pouting as she stared at the ground.
"Gosh, why is she always so hostile! I'm just trying to be friendly here!" Ella snorted, holding a hand in front of her mouth to hide her smile.
"Honestly? She's just like that, but nothing will convince you to stop trying, so i'm keeping my hands clean." Bridget deflated even more from that.
"But I know someone who'd love to get friendly with you." Red wiggled her eyebrows suggestively, Bridget blushing and looking away from her shyly.
"Huh. What? Red what do you mean?" Chloe looked over at Red, who looked back at her, their noses basically touching.
"Sex." She should not have said it that slowly nor that seductively, -Chloe's interpretation.-, and it made Chloe's cheeks flare up.
"You- you rascal! What is wrong with you-!"
"I mean Bridget you really should get some action, being single for too long isn't good, also, castlecoming is soon!" Bridget stayed silent for a bit, then hesitantly looked up at Red with questioning eyes.
"Go out on that dragon stables date with Athene, you'll love it."
-
"Oohhh, look who finally got someeeee!" Ella winked at Bridget, who flushed red.
"Really? First thing in the morning?" The pink haired girl grumbled halfheartedly, looking away as she crossed her arms.
"You're not denying it~" Red teased, Chloe hitting her arm.
"Hello gorgeous, how was your sleep?" As if she couldn't get any redder, Athene appeared behind her and snuck her arms around her waist.
"G-good-."
"Must've been awesome after what you two did."
"Ella!"

Finally! I will say now that the class girls will likely take a long time as well.
Kagami's first and second looks here are meant to be her pre and post character development outfits.
Buckle in, this is a long (haha) one
Kagami in cannon is clearly designsed to resemble Marinette in a lot of ways, both are of Asian decent and have blue-ish hair and blue eyes. Both have freckles and even their suits share a very similar color pallet. At least Luka was different from Adrien in more than personality.
I didn't want that for my Kagami. I wanted her too look like more than a Marinette clone. So she gets to keep her freckles since my Marinette doesn't have any. Her hair is a darker color instead of a blue, and her eyes take on a stormy grey color. And of course their body types are different, namely Kagami is both taller and ripped.
Ryuko's hair is more blue since I gave the miraculous blue, white, and gold accent to match the weather pattern on her chest. Her hair get's shorter, pinned back and is a bit more wild. It's probably got some static. Little horns and some armor to keep her extra safe as well as further resembling scales. Her suit is closer to an orange shade than Ladybug's cool red. I almost switched her to blue since I agree with the sentiment that the dragon should have been blue. But red looked good too.
I don't particularly like any of the akuma designs for Kagami. I like Oni-Chan in concept at least (hate the name) so I decided to combine that with Riposte to create her initial design. Than she gets a pallet swap and a few thorny details to represent the rose. And Bara-Oni, literally just 'Rose Demon' I ain't creative, when Lila pulls her stunt. Which would have less to do with "How could Adrien do this to me," to "That bitch is kissing Adiren when he is CLEARLY uncomfortable!"
Kagami's personality is very similar to cannon, however her character still has some pretty harsh changes. Kagami has come to realse through Adrien and Marinette's friendship that she isn't very happy with her life. Her mother is trying to live through her, forcing Kagami to participate in fencing and putting pressure on her to perform perfectly in every aspect of life.
This comes to a head when she is given Longg. While sitting in the akumatized mech her mother became, all because she had the audacity to make friends, she actually waits long (haha) enough for Longg to explain the miraculous. When Longg explains the weapon he points out that she must be thrilled to have a sword. At which point Kagami has an emotional breakdown and sobs that she doesn't even like sword fighting. That she would rather learn hand to hand combat and that she's wanted to switch for years but her mother refused to hear it.
Longg says her can change her weapon to better suit her, and she get's armor and the abilitly to summon gauntlets when her power activates.
After having this break she and Adrien sit down and try and find ways for Kagami to feel more like an individual without being disowned at 16. Cutting/dyeing your hair and getting a Tattoo are two of the results, and since Kagami already has short hair and doens't really want to go shorter she gets the tattoo instead. Subtly referencing her time as Ryuko but in blue (her favorite color). And of course her mother is blind and doesn't know
Is it kind of shitty to abuse your mother's disability to use her money and get a tattoo? Maybe. But that's what you get for mentally and emotionally warping your duaghter to the point where she lies about her favorite color to please you. She, Adrien, and Chloe are in the "Our mom's suck" club together. Chloe will be collecting her for new wardrobe shopping.

~ Just Smile ~
"You would look prettier if you smiled more."
"Why don't you ever smile?"
"Just smile."
You're used to comments like that, often hearing them from your classmates at Hawkins High...
But, here's the thing—
#1: My Smile
You hate your smile, often giving people the closed-mouth smile or a tight thin-lipped smile that doesn't quite ever reach your eyes. But, you refuse to smile with your teeth.
This makes one day very hard for you every time it comes.
Picture Day.
A day made from Hell to torture you, where people reassure you—"Oh!, it's not that bad..." or "Everyone looks bad in school photos." Really? Tell that to the Queen of Hawkins High, Chrissy Cunningham, or Steve 'the Hair' Harrington, or Heather Holloway, or Nancy Wheeler—even Robin seems to pull out a good one.
But, you?
Freshman Year—
"Big smile!" the photographer instructed.
And did you give her one-flashing your teeth... only to receive said photo later on just to cry to your mom about how bad it looked... and that your teeth looked wrong. The demon in your head won the longer you stared at the photo.
"Honey, it's fine—no one likes their school photos."
It was after all the other girls and boys bragging about their photos did you swear you'd never smile with your teeth in photos again.
Sophomore Year—
You prepared yourself, watching the person before you take their picture. Hearing the lady call 'next' with a short glance toward you. You took a deep breath, walking to the seat. When you sat down, your heart began to race a little—a rush of adrenaline coursing through your veins.
It felt as though things were moving in slow motion, a deep, patronizing voice, "Give me a big smile". The lady demonstrated, exaggeratedly.
Your eyes flickered to a group of your classmates, snickering at you with pointed fingers. They taunted your smile with their own.
"Big smile!" the lady repeated.
You heard the laughs of the group echoing in your ears, you quickly revealed your teeth in a wide grin. The flash of the camera temporarily blinding you.
"Next!'
You blinked a few times before moving along. You shuffled past the group until you heard the call of your name from one of them. With that you spun around to face them with nervous, wide eyes, and a once again, pounding heart.
One of the teenagers smiled at you, a fake, catty, insulting smile as they stalked closer to you. "Thought you'd want to know you have something—" They gestured to their mouth, specifically their teeth "Right there."
One of their friends snorted loudly in the back.
You frowned and went to the bathroom in a slight rush to check it out. When you found your own reflection in the mirror you bared your teeth only to find... your teeth—your smile.
All you saw was yourself.
Quickly understanding, you felt yourself falling apart—
Is that why they laugh at you when you smile and say hello passing them in the halls?
You thought you heard it in their tone—the fakeness of it all.
You ripped up your school photo when you got it after witnessing the same group as before commenting on it with their giggles and chuckles. You blocked your face with tape in your yearbook, so you'd never have to see yourself looking back.
Is that why they all laughed when you signed their yearbook the previous year? You only dug yourself farther into a hole, thinking about what would happen next.
That's when you swore you'd never smile again.
Junior Year—
The year you got a certain metalhead's attention.
He was in the same grade as you, and you shouldn't have even met, but you purposely ditched picture day and your mom forced you to go to retake day. Turns out you weren't the only one who hated this day.
The two of you grumbled under your breath, overhearing him next to you caught your attention.
"Mom forced you to do this too?" you asked.
"Uncle."
You chuckled, breathily. "What was his excuse?"
His posture straightened. "'You can't just run away and hide when you don't want to do something, boy! You have to stand up to it!'" he imitated this so-called 'uncle's' voice.
You giggled, but stopped when you suddenly felt his eyes on you. You dared to look and saw his gaze on your teeth. You cleared your throat and turned away from him.
You missed the way he frowned, as he missed the sight of your smile and the sound of your laugh in just seconds.
"What about you?" he chimed from behind you.
"Huh?" You kept your guard up, still turned away from him.
"Your mom's motive?"
"Oh—yeah! " You swallowed. "That I'll regret it one-day." You shook your head. "I highly doubt that though."
"Why didn't you attend picture day?"
"Tried to pull a you—ditch—avoid it..." you paused. "Run away from it." You suddenly found the palm of your hand more interesting than the beautiful boy behind you—actually wanting to talk to you!
You heard him chuckle. "Sounds like you and my uncle think the same of me."
"I don't know you—but I don't think you're a cult leader, that's for sure."
"But, most people do, hence why I try to get away with not doing this.” He gestures to the setup in front of you two. “Have no doubt they write freak over my face, or draw devil horns over my head in their little yearbooks."
There was a beat of silence and you could feel the slight nudge of his foot against yours.
You bit your lip, thinking about what he said. What he admitted to you so effortlessly. How could he trust you so fast without even knowing your name—who you are?
You sigh, "I hate my smile."
"C'mon, I just saw it and it's—"
"Ugly—I know."
"No, I was gonna say—"
" Next!"
You don't look back when you walk up ignoring Eddie.
"Show me a big smile!" she asks.
You, however, do not, giving her only a neutral expression. She takes the picture and looks down at it, uncomfortably.
"Uhhh... want me to take another one?"
"No." You left, hastily.
Eddie ignored the call for him as with narrowed eyes, watching you leave, he sets his own personal goal—
To get you to smile for him one day.
Senior Year—
"Ready for picture day, sweetheart?" Eddie asked, placing a sloppy kiss onto your cheek.
You grumbled, wiping his kiss away. "No."
He placed yet another kiss on your cheek in replacement of the old one. "I know, I know." He drummed a steady beat against the sides of your torso. "But, you look beautiful today, but then again you always do."
You grew flustered. "Thanks," you whispered.
"Next!'
You walked up to the seat and took your place.
"Big smile!"
You glared at the lady. "Seriously? I thought we were past this now."
Your eyes flickered to Eddie who gave you an encouraging thumbs up and a nod with an annoyingly cute smile on his face. That was enough for you to muster up a small closed-mouth smile and that was enough to make Eddie's heart soar.
Safe to say, he accomplished his goal.
Present—
Eddie did not accomplish his goal.
God, you haven't smiled in a week—a week! And at this point he thought he was going to lose his mind.
You've been having a tough week. With your allergies acting up, to school and work stressing you out, to even those special, rare moments of silence you have, only to have them be interrupted by one thing or another. And he tried, he tried to get you to even break a little smile for him, but he just couldn't do it.
Something had to be wrong.
Something was wrong, on your side of the story. Work, school, allergies, and lack of peace haven't been the only things keeping you up late at night. It was this intrusive thought every time you looked in the mirror, it was the people you interacted with at work whose gaze simply rested on your smile that made you falter, the once in a while backhanded comments people would make. You couldn't find it in yourself anymore to smile or even laugh—you felt exhausted and defeated.
Because it was you, your smile, something you owned—and people didn't like it. And at times you think you're cursed.
It's you.
You stumbled around your room, picking up random pieces of trash off the floor, and tidying things up before bed. You felt a slight pressure in between your eyebrows from wanting to cry a few times during your episodes.
You sighed and collapsed onto your bed. Just before you were about to get comfortable you heard a faint tapping on your window. You jumped at the sound, until you saw a familiar ring adorning a finger. You got up and walked over to the window, opening it.
"What are you doing here?" you ask, tiredly.
He only smiled. "I got some stuff for you." His eyes glanced behind you. "Can I come in?"
You rolled your eyes and moved to the side, giving him room for him to enter. "Come on in, Prince Charming."
His smile got wider, stepping inside, and nearly tripping on a small stack of books near your window. He revealed a bouquet of your favorite flowers. "For you." He handed them to you. You took them, with a curious expression. Suddenly, he's rifling through a plastic bag he brought. "Okay, so I got Breakfast Club, Nightmare on Elm Street, I even brought The Outsiders, and that other movie you like uh—" He read the title. "Some Kind of Wonderful."
Your eyes widened. "You brought all of those."
"Well, I thought we could have a little movie night," he replied, nonchalantly. "I also brought your favorite snacks and candy, even your favorite drink." He looked at your dumbfounded face. He set down the bag and brought his hands up to caress your upper arms. "Look, I know you've been having a bad week and I want to make it a little better."
Your eyes avert away from him. You sniffled, holding the flowers closer to your chest. "I don't deserve you, you know."
He shook his head. "Not true."
You argued, "No, no it is true, you deserve someone who you can show off to—to prove those jerks from school wrong, and I-I can't do that."
He frowned. "What do you mean?"
Tears rimmed your eyes. "Eddie, why are people so mean?"
He was taken aback. "Sweetheart..." He gently took the flowers out of your hands and placed them on your dresser. He pulled you into his chest. "What's wrong? Did someone say something to you?"
You nodded. "Yes..." You cry into his shirt.
"Who? I'll go kick their ass right now."
"No! It's—" You found yourself becoming embarrassed. "it's not just one person—so many people just—" You struggled to get the words out. "I just want to be able to smile without feeling judged—I feel like I'm forced to remain in bitch-face mode just so I don't have to deal with people staring or commenting or doing something that revolves around that—especially our classmates.” You pulled away to look him in the eyes. "I just want to feel beautiful when I smile Eddie."
He looked at you in shock at your confession. He knew you hated your smile, that was the start of you two, but hearing it now as someone more than a stranger was heartbreaking to him. Seeing the one he's so so in love with falling apart in front of him over something he couldn't stop thinking about for months and months.
"God, sweetheart, don't you see I'd do anything to keep you smiling."
"What?" You furrowed your eyebrows.
"I know you hate your smile, but god—I love it. I've loved it ever since I met you, and from that moment I wanted to make you smile everyday. Lights up my world and shit, if I'm being honest." He seemed nervous, fidgeting with the ends of your shirt.
"You mean it?" Your voice slightly cracked as the emotions of love rushed through you. You're almost starstruck by him. Over the moon. Your heart flutters and your stomach flips seeing the sincerity in his eyes.
Has he always looked at you that way? Have you just never noticed?
Truth is: Yes, he has, and no... you didn't.
"Jesus, yes, you're so beautiful and that smile of yours is beautiful," he pauses. "And who fucking cares what anyone says? Or thinks? Fuck them!"
You laughed.
His eyes widen as he stumbles back with a dazed expression. "I think I just died—" He dramatically falls on the bed. "And went to heaven," he finished. "Are you an angel?"
You laugh again, this time louder. "Stop it," you squeal.
"I'm serious." He pulls you over to him. You slot between his legs as he looks up at you with a slight pout. "I want you to talk to me when you're feeling insecure about yourself. I don't want you bottling up your feelings." He cups your face with the warmth of his hands to make sure he has your full attention. "I love every single thing about you, sweetheart. And I'll do anything and everything for you to realize that, no matter how long it might take. "
If only you knew just how serious he was.

Can we stop for a minute and think about Candy's perspective during that whole situation between Rayan and Marina?
I don't talk enough about the feminine perspective of our female lead when I talk about Rayan's route, but today I was reflecting.
Ok. I won't even get into much of "did he actually and unknowingly give the wrong idea to Marina and maybe even was too trusting of others, more than he should?" cuz, come on, we all know from Marina's mouth that it was all in her head and she was the one trying super hard to hook up with someone's else man, saying that if Candy got hurt or not in the process, that was none of her concern (well, the black eye me and my girl Candy could give to Marina was also none of our concern, but we didn't so), let's leave this on the side right now.
But let's actually talk about Rayan's behavior outside of it, like when the shit went down and we got a glimpse of what he looked like (probably) when Chloe died.
Candy was a true warrior through and through, honestly, she didn't break down enough during that process (couldn't be me, I would have gone crazy).
Why do I say that?
We saw before Candy being understanding, showing empathy and loyalty to her friends, even to her significant others, but Rayan's unwillingness to share what was happening with the death threats, the kinda stalking nature, and the prossecution, all to not put a burden even bigger on her shoulders, BUT THE PATIENCE SHE RETURNED WITH IT, she asked, she didn't really know what to do or give what he needed at the moment, but she was there.
She never stopped being there, no matter what curve ball the situation gave her. And it was more than many would do in such situation.
And okay, the restaurant moment, trying to make him go with her, was a miss. My girl was delulu there. No discussion.
But who could've thought Rayan would SIMPLY runaway like a scared teenage boy that crashed his mom's car? Nobody. The answer is nobody. Even thou, after he had done it I was like "oh, I saw something like this happening before on his route".
Even when he communicated to her that he wasn't even in town anymore, she was simply devastated. But never stopped trying to understand his side. And later when Eric was pointing out (kinda rightly so, I give him that much) and she got to actually defend DEFEND the man who bolted on her, that got unceremoniously into a train and was GONE, she showed that her loyalty was real.
Like Eric didn't know Rayan at that point. Candy could've so easily (and some answers were, to be fair) talked badly about his behavior to Eric as a moment of anger or hurt, she had every right to, but choosing not, is to her merit for sure.
And we all know how hurt she must have felt, because she was ready to fight the situation head-on with Rayan, however, Rayan was NOT ready to face the situation head-on with her
(not because he didn't trust her, I read as that's his defense mechanism, he runs. When he caught himself having feelings for Candy? He ran. When they kissed and it was coming real? He ran. He knows how to be brave, but first, my man bolts, that's his thing).
AND STILL, when he came back, she received him with open arms!! With love!! Forgiveness even!!
Some of us cheated on Rayan with Eric, but honestly, honestly?? No judgments here.
And later when Chani asked Candy to talk to Marina about what happened and Marina admitted all of those things, after everything that she saw that whole situation from Rayan's perspective, how hurted and out of himself he was for weeks and Candy didn't jump on Marina at any point???
Even when Marina was like "if you did get hurt by it in the end it was none of my concern" sociopath shit. Truly, what a bad person. Toxic. Selfish. Naive. Sociopath real shit.
Through it all, that damn war, Candy made it work.
And I daresay, they only survived that one because of her, because Candy did not give up.
I don't think it was very realist like, we at least should've sit with Rayan and have a conversation about that whole shutting us out of the situation that him at times did, at the very least, and pretend it didn't happen, shouldering it alone, always so forgiving, couldn't be any of us, let's be honest here, just Candy with her never-ending loyalty.
And maybe, just maybe, that arc with Marina could've been better if we saw more of Candy's feelings and her expressing them to Rayan in a justifiable way (not like the restaurant thing, which was pushing a situation that didn't have to happen) but actually giving out a real moment.
A moment when we could actually express our feelings and even justify kissing Eric if some of us wanted to. But at once, actually seeing Candy getting hurt by Rayan's attitude, understandable getting upset, and expressing it to him to then he apologizes. Not having him just magically understanding what he did wrong and apologise without any of her input.
Just as I take my imaginary hat off for how adult and loyal Candy was in that whole situation, I also missed having the hurt she felt expressed properly to Rayan and I know he would understand and even grow from it. Another missing chance to improve Rayan as a character.

We should've learned more about Max's parents
One of the things that annoys me about Life Is Strange is we never get any substance about Max's relationship with her parents.
She never answers her mom, but has no problem replying to her dad. Despite her dad dragging Max away from a grieving Chloe.
There's really no evidence to support Vanessa Caulfield is a bad mother or was harmful towards Max in any way shape or form. For all I know she could be a controlling mom over her neurodivergent child(I should know, my former friend is in that situation)
You could paint it as Vanessa is more outwardly abusive(control freak, domineering over Max's life), but Max’s dad Ryan is a pushover like Enid's dad from Wednesday and does whatever she tells him to (like, for example, “Time to go from William’s funeral, grab Max and make sure she comes along”) but she encourages Max's dreams. But since he doesn’t seem as bad as Vanessa on the surface, Max thinks of him as the one she can trust more (which is something she’d need to unpack in therapy at some point, cause in this scenario they’re both awful parents/people).
Maybe in a proper rewrite or a sequel that doesn't do a fucking 10 year timeskip, we could see some insight into Max's family life and why Max cut her mom out of her life.
You could add this during episode 3 or 4. Ryan and Vanessa return to Arcadia Bay after hearing all the crazy shit that's going on. A kid trying to commit suicide, freaky weather, a girl gone missing and their daughter caught up in the middle of all this. Ryan at first nicely asks Max to come home. Max insists that she's needed at Blackwell and she can't leave Chloe again. Vanessa then puts her foot down. She demands that Max come home and refuse to give Max a say in the matter. Chloe and Warren are defending Max from her mother. Vanessa tells Chloe "I don't know what the hell happened to you Chloe, but you will not drag my daughter down to your level, unlike you she actually has a future" then depending on who you choose between Chloe and Warren. With Chloe "Max I didn't sacrifice everything so you can go out and claim to be gay" with Warren "I don't know who you think you are, but you are nowhere near good enough for my daughter" and then Joyce shuts Vanessa down and defends Chloe and stands up for Max. If you sided with Chloe in episode 3, then Max gets the courage to finally stand up to Vanessa. "NO! I AM NOT GOING ANYWHERE WITH YOU! You don't get it, do you mom? I didn't just come back to Arcadia Bay for Blackwell and Chloe, I came back to Arcadia to get away from you. You suffocate me. I was practically dragged from my grieving childhood best friend at her father's funeral when she needed me most. I know well enough to know pop wouldn't have done that without your say so. And maybe I never contacted Chloe for 5 years, because I was scared how you would react. You kept telling me "don't bother worrying about Chloe, you'll make new friends" meanwhile Chloe was going through hell, did you even bother to reach out to Joyce after William died, because it sure seems like you were in such a hurry to leave them behind and didn't care how it would affect Chloe or me. I was grieving too, William was like a second father to me and I needed the support, me and Chloe needed each other and you took her from me. God, I am sick of your need to control EVERY aspect of my life. My best friend tried to kill herself, Chloe's girlfriend is missing and there's a serial killer and a practical end of the world storm coming and I need to help stop what's coming. So please leave me be and just maybe, I will come home when all this is done and we can talk. But until then, just trust me and learn to respect my boundaries and me as a person mom. Vanessa laments and apologizes to Chloe, Warren, Joyce and most of all Max. Ryan smiles and wishes his daughter good luck and wishes Max happiness with Chloe or Warren. If you sided with David, David surprisingly stands up for Max and order Vanessa to leave their house or he would call the police.
but there is no evidence to support that as all her texts seem to be a supportive and worried mother. Max does give vague responses as the episodes go on, but leaving a parent in the dark like that but giving more to her dad more just makes you wonder...
Max and her mother sewed a cushion together, and thinking of the day they did that makes Max smile. She brings the cushion with her to Arcadia Bay and it is on her bed in her room. Max's mother sends Max a $200 dollar gift certificate and a box of chocolate coconut bites for her birthday. She and Max's father also send Max a birthday message. and Max mentions Vanessa is into true crime. So it might not be as bad as I made her out to be, but the complete lack of context and Max's lack of response to her mother just makes more to be desired.
I always thought this was because Max was just distracted with the investigation and finding out she has powers but she has the time to text other people. So it's weird.
And there doesn't seem to be a hint that we will get more answers about Max's family in Double Exposure. She ignores Vanessa like nothing ever happened and there is very little to suggest we'd ever see them.
I mean if we could actually see Chloe's family, house, William and her deteriorating relationship with her mom and her hatred of David. Hell, we get insight into Victoria's parents as she's pressured by her gallery owning parents. We know the horror story of the Prescott family and we see Kate having a doting father, but a domineering religious mother and a zealout of an aunt. We actually know nothing about Warren, but I chalk that up to DONTNOD being lazy and I know SE has no plans to revisit his character. But I choose to see Warren as the male Matilda. He had neglectful parents, so he found comfort in science, sci-fi and a lot of obscure but retro stuff. They were neglectful when he's young, but learning to be harsh/strict as he's shown his potential as a genius. But of course anything of substance for Warren's character is asking too much..
We should have seen Max's home life and even her childhood home in Arcadia Bay. We should have seen Max's dynamic with her parents whether it's a fucked up dynamic or not. we really should have gotten more of that explored in game.

You're my fairy godmother!
Note: I came to the thought that Jane and Chad would make a good ship, especially with them being childhood friends, constantly around each other, and how Chad would definitely grow to be protective of her as they got older, so I hope you enjoy this rare pair! Remember, go show some love to my amazing friends such as @giveityourworst , @skellseerwriting , and @brokenmilkcrates, and credit goes to @frenchgirltalya for the photo!! :D
Warnings: entitled Chad, slightly bullying?, and somewhat looked down upon relationship.
Note 2: Remember, go show my friends love and support up above they write amazing stories, or in Zach's case amazing reblogs U-U, and remember you can give criticism without being a prick!
___________________________________________
The sky looked beautiful as it began to set, and the orange bled into the pink and purply undertones, Chad's eyes were fixated on the window, and he stared out at it lost in concentration, the book in front of him completely forgotten, his thoughts had been completely drowned by Jane after she told him she'd been asked out by some Prince Edward, he hummed as the corners of his lips tightened in a deep frown, before a loud crash could he heard which made him jump from his seat in the mansions library as he looked to the entrance where a young girl held a glass vase just from hitting the ground.
"Chad!" .The girl squealed as she quickly put the priceless piece back onto the stand before dashing over to him, her curly hair bouncing wildly before coming to a dead stop in front of him, she panted wildly almost like she'd ran a marathon as she spoke with labored breaths. "Where's... Jane... she always comes on Tuesdays... for dinner?"
Chad let out a deep sigh as he approached his younger sister, carefully fixing her hair so she looked presentable as he always had done, so she didn't look like she had been out tending to the horses all day, as he softly began to explain. "Jane and I had a small disagreement today, but don't worry, I promise she won't stay made for long."
His words were more hopeful than anything, Jane had become more self-assured over the year, and he worried, what if she no longer needed him? What if he was no longer all she needed? The very idea shook him to his very core, a bit of grief washed over his system as he began to think his friend, his childhood friend, his very dear friend, his very first ever friend, she meant the world to him, Jane was so many things, Chad wasn't, she was friendly, smart, easy going, wasn't self-absorbed, in a way she made him feel like a normal person, because to Jane, Chad was just Chad, he was Prince Charming Jr., he was just him, and that's all he ever needed to be for her, so why now when she needed him for advice did he fumble so hard? Why had he blown up for no reason after hearing about her and Edward? How he had asked her to go out with him after they'd finished a project for an extracurricular; why did it bother Chad so much? He could have anything he wanted, and he rarely had to ask; his train of thought was cut off as a small voice filled his ears.
"Chad! Chad! Earth to Christopher Chad Charming Jr!" .A little voice practically screamed in his ears. He winced slightly as he cupped his hands over the side of his head and glanced at the girl who wore a peeved expression with her arms over her chest as she tapped her foot clearly annoyed with how odd her brother was been acting as of late.
"What is it, Chloe!" .He raised his more than he meant to, which earned him a pitiful looking Chloe who basically resembled a kicked puppy as she sniffled with crossed arms before running off screaming. "Mom, Chad yelled at me!"
The moment he heard the words leave her mouth as she dashed out of the Charming library, he brought his fingers up to the bridge of his nose as he began to sing underneath his breath.
"Sala-Gadoola-Menchika-Boo-La-Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo, put 'em together, and what have you got bibbidi-bobbidi-boo."
He's often heard Jane sing this song when she was stressed out while she worked on random assignments, which she always aced of, but Chad always found it, so cute how she'd mumble to herself while staring at random books or a computer trying to find the right sources to use. Wait a minute cute? Since when did Chad ever think of Jane as cute? She wasn't cute, she- she was his friend. His cute friend, well she was cute, it's completely normal to find your friends... attractive at times, he let it go there as he quickly made his way out of the library and down the hall where he found his mother and Chloe who was in tears as she blubbered on and on about how terrible Chad was of an older brother.
"He yelled at me and said he wished he was an only child, and I ruined his life!" .The bluenette whined to her mom, who held her closely while rubbing her back, coddling her youngest before her eyes flickered to Chad who she gave a scrutinizing look, but she didn't look as angry as he had expected, clearly Ella had known Chloe was overdamatizing what had actually happened, she put her finger under Chloe's chin, giving her a warm smile before pushing her forward into the dining room as she told her. "Don't worry, baby, he's just a hormonal teenage boy."
Chloe giggled at what her mother said as she made her way further into the dining room. The queen watched her daughter, but after a while of waiting, she turned her head to her firstborn, who gulped the moment their eyes met, she carefully grabbed the front of her dress making her way over to her eyes filled with more worry then they did anger now, her soft voice traveled through the air. "What's wrong, my son, your not your usual happy self today?"
She combed her hand through his golden dyed locks ruffling them up so he didn't appear as closed off, Chad looked down at the ground, avoiding his mother's gaze, he felt her arms wrap around his shoulder in a loving embrace as she whispered to him. "You know you can tell me anything, Jr."
He smiled at his mother, but his smile slowly turned to pursed lips, which earned a concern look from his mother, who patted her sons back as she question him.
"What's wrong, my little prince?"
Chad folded his arms over his chest, still trying to evade his mother's eye contact before letting out a breathe of defeat as he broke. "I got into a fight with Jane alright?"
He felt pathetic. How could anyone respect Chad like this? He was supposed to be a daring prince who didn't let anything get in his way, but a small bump in the road, such as a certain godmother, seemed to make him crumble down to pieces, he heard an amused giggle, Chad gave his mother a shocked expression with his mouth wide open and his eyes staring at her in disblief, how could she be laughing at a matter like this?
Cinderella tried hard not to seem entertained by her son's problems, but she couldn't help but chuckle at his dramatics. He, his father, and his sister were so similar in all the right ways, she then said. "And why do you think that was?"
Chad scoffed. Why did he think Jane and him had disagreed, rolling his eyes. He stepped away before walking through the door of the dining room, leaving his mother with a goofy smile, shaking her head and following her ego monster of a son.
The family of four shared dinner, but there was one seat that remained empty at Chad's side that'd usually be occupied by Jane, but alas, she was nowhere to be found, after dinner, that night Chad lay awake in bed, staring at the ceiling above him, his mind was flooded with Jane, her smile, her bright blue eyes that matched his once blue hair, her hair that she hated, but he found to suit her so well, her bad jokes that always left Chad in tears from how hard he'd end up laughing, her- no what was he thinking, why was he thinking so much about her, he rolled over, shoving his face in the pillow at he let out a silent scream of frustration before finally laying back, and allowing his eyes to flutter shut.
- The next day, Wednesday 5:35 pm. -
Chad used his jersey to wipe the sweat from his forehead as he panted. He and the guys had been practicing for the last three hours. They'd swapped positions and changed plays, but Coach was nowhere finished with them as he made them run seven laps around the entire field.
He felt someone clap their hand over his shoulder. Looking to his right, he was met with Charlie La Bouff and Ben Florian. They were just as worn out and sweaty as he was, Ben tilted his head toward the bleachers where the three tourney players would usually relax after practice, the boys made their way over, Charlie flopped himself onto the seat, while he used a towel sitting on the bleacher to wipe his face and dampened hair, while Ben leaned against the railing across from Chad.
"What's up with you, man?" .Ben questioned Chad, which made Charlie look at him, too, with both of his best friends staring at him expectantly. How could he find an escape here like he could at home? He let out a breathing chuckle as he pushed himself away from the railing and sat next to Charlie as he went on a small rant. "Ah, you know, parents, sister, school, the hot weather."
Chad wasn't convinced at all by the words that left his mouth, Ben let out a high-pitched noise while Charlie hummed. Clearly, they didn't believe the prince either. As he sat back watching other tourney players run around the field, he ran his tongue over his lips with a pensive look on his face, he felt as if something were missing, well something was missing, Jane was, she always made sure to come and see him practice, and then he'd walk her home, or wherever she was headed, or in some cases spend time with her, Chad wasn't the only one who noticed her presence gone, Charlie looked around the bleachers from top to bottom before turning to Chad.
"Where's Janie at she always comes to see you."
He shook his head as he tried to think of some kind of excuse to give the blonde who was giving him a confused look, his bright blue eyes bore into him, it made him think of Jane and how she'd stare up at him and laugh at his antics, the sound that left Chad could be compared to that of a growl, as he clenched his hand into a fist before hitting it against the seat, Ben and Charlie shared a look of astonishment, they'd never seen Chad so worked up or quick to anger, and never once had he ever hit something.
"Wow, man, what's wrong with you? This isn't you, Chad?" .Charlie piped in as he sat up straighter, taking the situation more seriously than he originally planned on, but this just made Chad feel more pathetic he was losing his cool and he couldn't even face Jane, he couldn't even bring himself to speak about her to his closest of friends, he felt a hand on his shoulder a soft squeeze, his hazel eyes traveled down to the steel board under his feet, his teeth dragged over his lower lip, before he finally boiled over. "It's Jane, alright!"
He stood up and walked over to where the railing of the bleachers was. His hands touched the bar, gripping it in a white-knuckling grip, and he tried to stop himself from getting out of control. He was confused about everything. Why can't he stand the thought of Jane doing all the things they'd do together with Edward? It puzzled him and left a sour taste in his mouth. He finally turned around when he felt as if he's gained some composure. His two friends were worried about him. It was plain as day, Ben finally took a brave step forward.
"Hey, look, whatever happened, I'm sure Jane won't stay mad for long, your Prince Charming and Fairy Godmother, you'll make things right." .Ben tried to sound reassuring, but it didn't help Chad's nerves at all, so he simply nodded before Charlie could add to what Ben had said, Coach called down for them, the three made their way down with Ben and Charlie patting and lightly clapping Chad's arms and back as form of affection and comfort.
- Wednesday, 6:15 pm. -
Chad carried his sports bag with him as he made his way from the field, passing by, different parts of the school till he stopped at Auradon prep's library where he saw a very alone Jane Godmother sat a window seat, her legs curled up into a ball, her hands firmly closed around a book that her eyes were focused on. Chad looked from the hallway before turning back to look at her. He took a hesitant step forward. Before he knew it his feet carried him until he was stood in front of Jane who was now staring up at him with confusion, her head slightly tilted allowing her hair to rest on her neck and shoulders and her round cheeks were red and rosy, her plump lips slightly parted, her sea blue eyes stared up at him hints of hurt laced in them.
"What do you want, Chad?" .Her usually light and welcoming voice felt like ice being stabbed into his chest, Chad's breath hitched in his throat before he swallowed his pride. "You will go with me to the ball. I will not have any complaints from you."
He practically demanded her before walking away, leaving a stunned Jane in his wake, her mouth now wide open in shock as she had no clue what to say in response to Chad's bold command.
Truth be told Chad only truly had confidence in himself because he was used to people complying with his every want and need, but felt a twinge of fear roll down his back as he walked away from his fairy godmother, he worried he worried would she actually go with him? So many questions ran through his mind, but most of them all ended badly, all he could do is wish upon a star tonight just as his mother once had.
- Wednesday, 10:30 pm. -
Jane looked in her closet before running her hair through her hair, clearly very frustrated by a certain charming fellow. It wasn't that she didn't want to go with him, but it was how he completely dodged what had happened the day before their argument, their first big argument, they'd always squabbled and bickered, but yesterday was the first time Chad had ever yelled at her before, she flopped onto her bed, turning her head to look at her nightstand where a picture of her and Chad stood tall and proud, they wore matching smiles, they'd been in middle school and it had been their first ever dance and who better to go with than her best friend?
Her brows knitted together as she reached her hand forward and ran a finger over the younger Chad's cheek in the photo. Her frown grew, and her eyes became glassy as she whispered. "I can give you your happily ever after, but I can't be your princess."
Meanwhile, a certain princess was throwing random, expensive outfits onto the floor of Chad's room; it was clear the girl was looking for the perfect suit before she finally pulled out a teal-colored suit with golden accents and squealed. "Chad, you need to look perfect for Janie!"
He let out a soft breath, which turned into a wide grin. He watched his determined little sister run all the way from the closet to his humongous bed, where she threw the suit at him along with some clip on metals.
"It's not like that, Janie and I are just friends." .He tried to convince himself, his hands ghosting over the high-quality fabric lying next to him. Chad examined the color, thread count, and other small details looking for any imperfections as Chloe went on. "Are you sure you don't like, Jane?"
She questioned with crossed arms, a pouted lip, and big brown eyes full of wonder before she got distracted by something in Chad's closest and ran away, but her words left Chad in shock, did he like Jane? His thoughts were cut off as Chloe let out a gasp. He looked over and saw a familiar box in her hands. She turned to him, tapping her foot. "Why do you have a box of pictures of Jane?"
The moment she said that Chad practically leaped off the bed, to which Chloe ran out of the room where Chad gave chase before they stopped in front of their parent's room, the box was truly important to him and he needed it back now, he kept different things in there, some things Jane had given him like a small locket that had a broken clasp, or the many photos they'd take together on summer break, it was Jane's box for Chad's eyes only, he began to sneer at the younger girl. "Haven't you ever heard of privacy, mom!"
The brother and sister shouted at each other for a while before an elegant woman appeared out of seemingly nowhere with a big smile she said. "I swear you two can't go five minutes without having a screaming match."
Her eyes then landed on the box before a mischievous glint appeared in her eyes, she gently took the box from Chloe while Chad could only watch in horror as she looked through the contents of the box, she was very careful with how she handled the locket that Jane had given him on his eleventh birthday, before setting it back in, she smiled at her son and gave him the box which he held tightly to him, before she gave Chloe a look that made the little girl recoil.
After a while of Ella yelling at the girl, Chloe went back to her room with a defeated look. Ella then guided Chad back to his room, but not without stopping on the way out. "I've known for a while, sweetie; good night, my prince."
Before closing the door on her way out leaving a red-faced Chad whose pride had taken a massive blow, he might as well melt into a puddle of goo onto the carpet and allow the cleaning ladies to wipe away his remains, but he pushed through like a brave knight, setting the box with much care back in it's sacred place in his closet before clapping his hands making the lights turn off.
The future King settled into his bed with thoughts of Jane carrying him off to sleep.
- The next day, Thursday 7:25 pm. -
Jane heard a knock at her door as she put on her final accessories, one of them being a headband. Her mother hadn't gotten for her for Christmas, she looked in the mirror her periwinkle dress wasn't fancy by any means she looked more like a server than a guest, but because she was going with someone invited she didn't need a invitation, she was a plus one in a sense, she grabbed her little messenger back and put it over her shoulder, before she headed out, she opened the front door where she was met with Chad, he looked like a true prince in this moment, the outside lights seemed to glow around him as she peered up I to his warm hazel eyes that had a flecks of gold and lime green in them.
"My lady?" .He asked with a devious smirk, holding out his arm for Jane to grab onto which she did, Chad guided Jane to a white carriage with eight white stallions instead of a footman opening the door for her, it was surprisingly Chad, he held it for her tilting his head to signal her to enter, before climbing in behind her, he knocked the roof of the carriage to tell the driver to start to the ball.
Jane was left speechless. Here he was, dressed in fine clothes, had a whole coach and carriage waiting for her, and she was underdressed compared to Chad and his lavish wardrobe. Her gaze traveled down to her lap it was as if their fight from days ago had vanished completely. Maybe it was because of the ball, or maybe it was how Chad looked at her in this very moment like she was the only girl in the world, she began to whisper. "You didn't have to do this for me."
The deep chuckle he let out made blush bloom all over her face, and her head lifted to meet his gaze as he spoke. "I wanted to for you, you know you look absolutely gorgeous tonight, my dear."
His words made her feel warm and tingly inside. A soft sound rang in her ears, almost as if she felt relaxed like she always did when she was with Chad. She turned her head away to avoid his sharp eyes, looking out the carriage window and watching the moon follow them almost as if it was immersed in their love story that was slowly unfolding before it. Eventually, the carriage came to a stop as they heard. "We've arrived, young master."
The coachman announced, which earned a Cheshire-like smile from Chad, who quickly grabbed Jane's hand to lead her from the carriage. She watched the coachman leave along with her last chance to escape this situation. She gulped as she looked around at the beautiful girls. She wasn't anything like them, rich, pretty, confident, they were everything she wasn't, she wished she could bury her head in the sand at this very moment as she gulped, but she felt a hand wrap around her waist and nring her forward-looking up, her eyes met Chad's who smiled down at her, and it occurred to her this was a side of Chad that was only meant for her eyes only.
They entered the ballroom, where they saw many royal families, couples, and rich people dance, gossip, and gloat, Jane stuck closely to Chad's side, she felt his hand gently run up and down her waist, in a comforting motion, she felt herself preen for his touch as she leaned into his big hand that engulfed her small waist, they walked around for a bit, silently judging some of the other people, but what got Jane most was when other royals would stare at them most were princesses who'd stare at Chad while giggling, but then their gazes would travel to Jane who was firmly planted at his side, and then those looks turned into scrutinizing and criticism, Chad seem to notice as he carefully leaned down and whispered in Jane's ear. "Ignore them they're just jealous. You have the best one in the room."
After he said those words to her, an all too familiar song began to play. "Mmm, mmm, so this is love? Mmm, mmm, so this is what makes life divine."
Jane's eyes widened fearfully as she felt Chad bring her over to the center of the room where he began to start a slow pace for them, as he twirled her he said. "What if I told you I'd whisk you away?"
As she was twirled back and pressed against his chest he continued. "And give you all your hearts desires?"
He let out a small laugh as the song went on, Chad himself began to sing his family song. "My heart has wings, mm, and I can fly."
Slowly, as the song went on, Jane and Chad felt as if they were in their world, so much so Chad carefully leaned down, and joined their lips together in a delicate kiss, it was almost a gentle peck before he leaned back, but before he could become completely outreach, Jane leaned forward to capture his lips in a loving kiss, it was only when the song came to an end that Chad pulled away and whispered. "I'll give you a happily ever after because you're my fairy godmother."
Jane smiled up at him as her arms wrapped around his neck. The two joined in one final kiss of love.

█ TARA's absolutely weakness was kids. She has dreamed about being a mom since her childhood. As a kiddo she was playing with doll that looked like newborn, acting like a mommy to her. The fact that she was the only child didn't help her baby fever phase. Fortunately for her, she had a bunch of neighbours who had children that she could babysit from time to time, even if for almost everyone spending time with a little child was a pain in the ass, for Tara it was time to relax and forget about all the problems she had.
When her boyfriend Max told her that his mom was expecting another child, she was literally jumping from happiness. She already was a free babysitter for Nora and Billy, and don't get me wrong, she absolutely adored them, but they were teenagers and the vision of having a chance to spending time with a little kiddo made her absolutely overjoyed. Her reaction made Max chuckled a bit, as he was watching his girlfriend with adoration in eyes.
"I bet it's gonna be a cutie little baby girl" Tara said with a magnificent smile.
"Nah, that's gonna be a boy" Max said with a smirk, standing in front of Tara who still was standing on his bed.
"Okay, let's make a bet then. If it will be a girl then you are gonna buy me a milkshake but if it will a boy then I will buy you this hoverboard that you want" she smiled at him and pulled out her hand forward.
"Deal" he shook her hand with proud smile, pulling her closer to him and kiss her sweetly.
✧・゚: *✧・゚⋆ ˚。⋆୨୧˚ :* ✧・゚: *✧・⋆ ˚。⋆୨୧˚ ゚
TARA knew about Thundermans and their powers, that's why she wasn't even surprised that their new baby came to the world really quick. She also felt sorry for Mrs. Thunderman and her difficult birth, even if most of the time she was jealous that her boyfriend's family have that amazing powers, at that moment she was relieved that she was just a regular human.
After seeing another lighting coming out from the bedroom upstairs, she squeezed Max's hand tighter, he knew that his girlfriend was worried about his mom, but at some moments she looked more worried about his dad who fallen from the stairs a countless time. For him personally, it was funny, he already did a bunch of photos and videos of Hank's 'incidents'.
And as much as Tara didn't like when kids were making fun of their own parents, she could admit that some of the pics and jokes about this situation made her smile a little bit. She knew that they did it to relax atmosphere.
After a few hours of waiting for the little to show up in this world, finally they could come in the bedroom, where Barb was laying down on the bed with a newborn in her arms. Tara could feel how her eyes started to tearing up as she looked at a little baby, she side hugged Max to hide her affection. She felt her boyfriend kissing the top of her head, also being a bit affected but mostly because of Tara's awesome reaction.
"Everyone meet a new sister, Chloe" Barb said with a tired smile.
"Ha! I won" Tara shouted with excitement, pointing on her boyfriend, doing her little victory dance as everyone else laughed watching Max who rolled his eyes, trying to hide his smile.

hey junnie! idk if you have watched rise of red, but do you think chad charming is adopted? i know it's a topic of debate, but personally, i don't think he is because genetics can be unpredictable, you know?
Ok so I seen this post on here idk who made it but they were like Chad gets his genes from his grandpa. And you know what?
I see it.
so I agree with you that Chad isn’t adopted cause first of all he’s mixed and so is his dad and sometimes genetics can typically take over when it comes to race (I’m mixed myself in the Same way as Chad my mom’s black and dads biracial but I’m a bit more lighter then my siblings is to the point where I could be considered fully white even though you can tell I’m mixed).
second when casting they didn’t know that this would become this big of a franchise so they can’t just say he’s adopted caused they didn’t know what would happen after the first movie and it’s success.
so I wouldn’t say Chad’s adopted cause you also have to remember that Chloe’s not fully mixed she’s still a little light but that’s my opinion
Thanks for the ask Madi🤍

Descendants 4 is Insane
The politics and themes of new Descendants movie is so bizarre and I just fucking need to rant into the void about it so bear with me. This will be long
-We're introduced to Red as "the only one standing up against the Queen of hearts", in a vigilante outfit that is so obviously in her exact style and doing various acts minor vandalism over a catchy pop song. Like she breaks some stuff and splashes paint on her mom's portrait and that's it. Lyrics like "appetite for destruction" are sung as she cuts flowers and breaks vases. It doesn't come across like she's in any way a liberator or fighting for justice, she is literally just having a rebellious phase.
-The Queen of Hearts is so obviously an Authoritarian dictator and this treated with such levity by the movie compared to the actual actions she takes. She stages a fucking coup (very easily I might add?) against Uma and nearly gets Cinderella, one of their most beloved public figures, executed, and yet Red spends most of the movie complaining about how her mom doesn't like her clothes. She's mad she can't leave Wonderland and can't go to the fancy boarding school and not that innocents are regularly being executed and freedoms are restricted
-FURTHERMORE, when Red goes back in time and meets her mother, Bridget, she is shown to be extremely caring and empathetic, completely opposite to her characterization in the first act to the point I still don't fully believe they were the same character. From vague lines said before they travelled, Red and Chloe deduce that a prank pulled on her mother during a school dance was the reason for her sudden shift in personality. Obviosly, the idea that one act of high school bullying can make a very normal, nice girl into a facist dictator is absurd, so I thought this was a very obvious bait and switch, and that throughout the movie we would see that Bridget's persona was some sort of mask hiding her evil nature. NOPE. They stop the prank being pulled on Bridget, and when they travel back to the future, she is nice and normal and not a dictator. HUH. In the canon of this movie a couple of school bullies pulled a prank so bad that it turned an empathetic caring young girl into an oppressive authoritarian presumably responsible for the death of thousands
-Also, about this prank: Red and Chloe spend a bit of the movie trying to figure out who pulled it in the first place. They witness an altercation with Bridget and Uliana (Ursula's little sister?) and her gang of villains, and are led to the very obvious conclusion that it is Uliana who will prank Bridget. She is oppenly saying she willb take revenge and everything. This would be a very logical conclusion if this wasn't a movie, in real life this is how these things work, but the thing is THIS IS A MOVIE. First rule of mystery in movies is the most obvious answer is never the real answer, there always has to be a twist.
My next thought was Cinderella. In the present, there are lines that suggest tension between The Queen of Hearts and Cinderella, and they are shown to be close friends in the past. If it was Cinderella who pulled the prank, it would give a reason for the sudden break in a seemingly very close relationship and also tie into Chloe Charming's arc about how not everything is black and white, and that good people can still do bad things. This was such and obvious and easy way for this movie to go, there is even a scene where Ella gets mad at Chloe for breaking something on accident, and is shown to hold grudges, and there are regular comments made by Chloe about how her mom isn't as "queenly" in the past as she is in the present. This would be so easy, it was literally my first thought. But no. The easy answer is the answer. In the movie whose message is morality is complicated and the heros and villains aren't always clear, the obvious villains are the obvious villains.
-AND ALSO, can we talk about how there is a school where heros and villains are both attending? Like, Maleficent is classmates with Cinderella. There is a character who is the son of Morgan le fay, going to a school where Merlin is the principle. This to me could mean two things
These are the villains before they committed their crimes. Maleficent isn't Maleficent, she's just a bitchy fairy mean girl
There is no system of accountability for these kids. Hades regularly tries to steal people's souls and the school can't/won't do shit about it besides give out detentions
Both situations are utterly insane to me, number two for obvious reasons, but also becaus there are already obvious clicks of kids whose main goal is to cause trouble for the school just vibing. Morgie, Morgan le fay's kid, introduces himself as such. This means Morgan is already well known, and I don't know what other reason there could be for that other than her villainy. Villains exist in this universe, these kids are clearly just diet villains, and the school doesn't seem to give af it's raising the next generation of evil muderers right alongside the realms most precious royalty
-and lets go back to that morality thing. There's a point in the movie where it becomes clear the most reliable way to fix the future is breaking into the principles office. Chloe is opposed to this, but later comes around, and breaking the rules directly results in the redempotion of Red's mom. Cool. Combined with Red's vigilante shit it the beginning, it's a clear message for the movie to have. Except it isn't. Because while Descendants is very liberal in painting itself in an aura of "coolness" by making its main characters the children of villains, and having all these themes of moral complexity, all change is made, in univers, by working within the system and rooting out the few bad apples in an otherwise perfectly functioning liberal democracy.
The VK's coming to Auradon is, from a real world perspective, an obvious PR stunt to make Ben look good for supporting the underprivileged villains. Auradon was a world where children paid for the crimes of their parents by being forced to live in poverty and squalor, being raised by parents who have literally killed people. They are very obviously shown to be horrible parents, and yet this rampant child abuse epidemic on The Isle goes completely unexamined by the text aside from that one cookie scene in the firsts movie. This would be cool to examine becuase it literally works perfectly with the stories themes, but it just doesn't. The King and Queen who made this system are never painted as anything other then a bit misguided, and not like, literal war criminals. All violence before this point has been shown to be evil, even if it was being done in the name of fixing this fucked system (Uma for example). It wants to endorse vigalante justice as an aesthetic and not in a way that would in any way challenge the real world systems of oppression it's pulling its aesthetics from. So no, this theme doesn't work. Auradon is the bad guy, full stop, and the movies can't see that.
It tries to advocate for restorative justice by giving all the Villains a "second chance", but doesn't examine any of the ways that would logically work, or the consequence of unleashing convicted killers who have a pattern for holding grudges on a society that hates them on some random Tuesday. Villains are villains because someone was mean to them in high school, authoritarianism pales in comparison to telling you daughter you don't like her outfit, and murder does not exist because it's not happening to our main characters.
Anyways Descendants is neoliberal propaganda which shouldn't be surprising because it was made by Disney.

In Defense of Chloe Bourgeois Part 2: Why is Chloe?
Hello everyone! In case it wasn't obvious by the title, this is a part 2 to this post right there! I'd sincerely recommend reading it since you'll need the context. Anyhow, moving right onto where I left off!
[...]
Okay...deep breath. In and out. I'm...totally fine. Anyway, considering all of the above, it's pretty clear that Chloe has a lot of problems. Mental Health problems, to be exact. And natually, this circles back to her bigget fault in this entire show. Bullying the main character. Now, bullying sucks. It's bad, don't do it. This is coming from a person who got relentlessly bullied for years on end by the way, so I'm on Marinette's side here! She's right not to trust Chloe in Vanisher, because she's fourteen and has years worth of trauma related to this girl! In her experience Chloe is never helpful, and often the antithesis of that word. Sure, Ladybug should have looked past that as part of her job, but Chat Noir doesn't either! The only reason he ever gives her the benefit of the doubt is because it's Adrien under the mask! So as far as I'm concerned, Marinette didn't do anything wrong (yet) with how she handled Chloe. And any mistakes she does make are if not justifiable then at least understadable given their history. But on the Chloe side of things, she has every reason to hate Marinette. From all the classmates we have info on, Marinette is the only one with a happy, complete and loving family in the way that Chloe has always wished her's way. Obligatory reminder that Alya wasn't in their class until Origins. We never see Alix or Sabrina's moms, I'm half convinced Nino's parents don't exist because they've never been mentioned once the whole show, Max and Juleka only have their moms and possinly daddy issies, etc. Something ain't right with any of the familial situations here. So obviously, when Chloe sees someone who she's been taught by Audrey (again, her role model in formative years) is "beneath" her, as in, fundementally inferior to their own existence, and Marinette has a loving family that adores her unconditionally, is it any fucking wonder she acts out???
Again! And this is the last time I'll say it! So sing along, everyone! ~Bullying is bad! Don't do it kids!~ What Chloe does (even without that horrendous spider-pool-thing of a retcon) is obviously wrong!!! Okay??? It's bad!!! Because hurting other to feel better is a shitty thing to do! Nevermind that it doesn't work!!! I am not going to repeat myself again! But the root of Chloe's problems is her family. She's been raised by two (barely one, but let's pretend) people who make me wonder if parenting licences should be a thing, and are prime examples of the fact while every kid deserves a parent, the opposite is very much not true! Marinette effortlessly has what Chloe craves, parental love! And at the time they first meet, they should both be like 9 or 10! Obviously Chloe takes things too far, but considering she's emotionally stunted and the people around her have to do as she says, no wonder she's royally pissed the moment she encounters something that she can't throw daddy's money at and win! That's what Audrey taught her is correct, and what Andre constantly encourages!
Understanding all of this, we circle back to Style Queen. Fucking Style Queen, man. Chloe accidentally finds the Bee Miraculous. And honestly? The argument of "Marinette shouldn't have dropped it" is fucking ridiculous. Listen, the coffee cup in Sentibubbler I can understand, but don't grasp at straws like this. For Nooroo's sake! Moving right along, dear God does this go badly. Up to this point, we've got a vague idea that Chloe is willing to help Ladybug and Chat Noir (aside from just being a self-proclaimed superfan), given that she did so in Vanisher, Despair Bear, and possibly another episode that I'm forgetting about. Doesn't matter. So now, Chloe Bourgeois is in possession of a magical macguffin that gives her heroes their superpowers. Naturally, this is a pretty big thing. Unfortunately, Chloe doesn't even get the chance to be responsible here, because Audrey immediately goes on a rant about how useless she is and how she could never be "exceptional". Aka: hits all of Chloe's trauma buttons with a Greathammer. Wonderful job, local Karen! This immediately prompts Chloe to take what she knows is exceptional (superpowers) and flaunt it in her mother's face. She transforms in a room full of people, including Gabriel Agreste, but I don't care about him in this rant, and runs out to try and find a crime to stop!
Because of course, heroes do good things! But you know, helping an old lady cross the street or rescuing a kitten isn't exactly "exceptional material" so Chloe instantly goes for the heavy hitters. And has the incredibly stupid idea of the whole train wreck bs. Yes, I know it was a subway or something, I don't care. The point stands. Naturally, stupidity attracts dumbassery, and so the local watermelon and her furry companion show up to put a stop to Chloe's shenanigans. Kudos to Ladybug by the way, for recognizing the situation for the problematic mess that it was and trying to comfort Chloe. Excellent character delevopment from Marinette here. Unironically I love that she still does this even though she doesn't have to. Nowhere in the superhero manual does it say "talk to your bully because she's having a shitty moment with her abusive mother", but Marinette does it anyway because she's cool like that. And then...a miracle happens! Praise Nooroo, because Chloe "Queen B" Bourgeois apologizes for causing a mess! I can't believe it! And then...Nadja does what reporters do best, and screws everything up. As an aside, can you tell I don't like "reporter" characters? This goes for Alya too, I hate it when they insert themselves in clearly private situations for the sake of a "scoop". My sister in Nooroo, if it's a scoop you want then go interview Andre Glacier! I do like Alya, got a whole "In Offense to..." post about her in the works. And I promise not to bash her. It's the writing's fault.
Anyway, back to Nadja being an idiot. Because naturally, a child is in emotional distress! And even more naturally, she decides the best way to handle a clearly fragile situation in a city where people get turned into violent supervillains for feeding the goddamn pigeons (lookin' at you, Xavier!) is to...live stream it on television. For the entire country of France! And even more naturally, she also gets Chloe's abusive mother on the line so the child in question can be belittled on NATIONAL TELEVISION for what she already knows is wrong, and has been handled by the proper authority. Because I don't trust a single adult in this universe, Ladybug is a thousand times more reliable! Like seriously, she's just been Akumatized!
Does Nadja want it to happen again? Anyway, this utter debacle marks the beginning of Chloe's career as Queen Bee, the superhero Ladybug brings in when she needs to and then puts back in the box until next time! Mind you, I do not blame Marinette for this, considering that she acknowledges Chloe is capable and willing to help, even says so to her at one point. Then we go through Maledictator, Heart Hunter, Miraculer, etc. And it becomes pretty clear that Hawkmoth is actively targeting Chloe. Because, you know, she's the only Miraculous Holder whose identity was public. All the while, Chloe actually seems to mellow out a little bit in her civilian life. Sure, she does that hillarious thing where interviews Queen Bee which is honestly just funny and should have been given extra points for the effort of doing it herself instead of forcing Sabrina to do it for her. I mean that instead of encouraging Chloe's bad behavior by being unreasonably permissive, miss Bustier should encourage her good behavior little by little, like doing things on her own and the compliments thing she has the class do. To her credit, Chloe does seem to be trying, and slowly finding her footing with all these new dynamics. Even with Sabrina, she seems to be treating her better now. They play "Ladybug and Chat Noir" together, and all that stuff. I won't get into it here because I want to move onto the actual conclussion of this rant, but you get my point.
Despite all this, Chloe is still very...Chloe. But she does seem to be doing a little better. I'm fairly sure Marinette or at least Adrien acknowledges that at some point, but anyway. The reason why I think Chloe's behavior improves is because she finally feels like she belongs. In Team Miraculous, I mean. Sure, Ladybug is their leader who she listens to, but that's just the thing. Ladybug leads, she doesn't boss people around. And Chloe already looked up to her, and willingly chooses to follow. It's good for her, even if we're taking baby steps here. And then...Miracle Queen happens. I'll honestly be damned as to why Marinette got butchered here, because this is a fault of the writing. Like, I'm sorry, they build up this understanding that Chloe can't be Queen Bee anymore between her and Ladybug, and then just...take it away? H-how do you take away an established dynamic??? Not like this, that's how! People are saying Marinette should have sat Chloe down and explained things better, and yeah okay that would have helped, but you guys realize Gabriel was actively praying on her worst feelings, right? Gabriel who knows Chloe's family and also has emotional manipulation powers? All he had to do was feed into all these doubts one last time and get her to agree for like, five seconds. Akuma goes in, and she's on his side now!
And hot take? I like Miracle Queen! I like the direction they tried to take this in! Because it's clearly a "battling your inner demons" storyline, which fits perfectly with the fact that Chloe needs a good support system to function properly. She's still so deeply steeped into the crap that Andre and Audrey taught her that she needs help, and that's okay! For Nooroo's sake, needing help from your friends is completely okay! You should ask for it when you can't do something on your own! And Chloe does try to! She has a fucking Batman Signal knock-off on her rooftop! It's...certainly a method. Then again she doesn't have Ladybug's phone number, so... Anyway yeah. The thing is that I think it's okay for Chloe to need a support system, and then Gabriel takes advantage of her when said network isn't there. He's actively manipulating a child here. Yes, Chloe does give into his manipulation and by extension her own darker self, but I think that's the point. Or at least I perceive it as a "healing is hard, takes time, mistakes will be made alone the way" kinda thing. Which works regarldess of a "Redemption Arc" or no! if they wanted to redeem Chloe, then here's another huge conflict to work through! Here's something that ruined the trust she had with Ladybug and left them both vulnerable! Here's a really cool plot thread that can be explored between Chloe and Adrien, because he's the only who as far as Chloe knows, doesn't hate her (which would be logical to assume for Ladybug given what she did). You want to go "Corruption Arc"? Welp, here's a tale of caution! Here's a display of Hawkmoth as a competent villain who utterly decimated Ladybug's team! Here's a reason for Chloe to defensively slip back into old patterns and emphasize that she's bitter towards her friends because nobody helped her! Again, great character conflict! Beautiful idea, a fine message even!
Surpring absolutely nobody, Thomas Astruc does neither of these. Or rather, he tries to do both, and fails at both. Let's keep the Chloe point for a bit longer before we bring Zoe into this mess, okay? The problem I have with Miracle Queen is that it fundementally half-asses the above, in quite possibly the stupidest way possible. Like I said above, it was previously established (I'm fairly sure in Miraculer) that Chloe understood she couldn't be Queen Bee anymore. And yeah okay she seemed bummed, but still got Ladybug's reasoning. Because you know, Marinette talked to her about it! And then the show just...forgets this happened??? I get that Chloe wants to be a hero, which I think is probably her only halfway healthy coping mechanism for all the crap she's dealing with, but she's clearly shown to agree with Ladybug's decision, even begrudgingly. And suddenly, with almost no fanfare or buildup, Gabriel "Mothballs" Agreste swoops in for a glory kill and manipulates Chloe into getting Akumatized. Again, I know this is a "battle with her inner demons" thing, but it genuinely doesn't matter! Because Hawkmoth is grooming her right now! Aside from the horrible connotation of the word, it also refers to general manipulation of a person's mental state. But you know what peeves me greatly? This seems to happen instantly! I would have loved it if we took two or three episodes to show Chloe being upset over losing the one place (Team Miraculous) where she felt accepted, I would have liked to see her talk to Sabrina about how she feels like shit because she can't help Ladybug anymore. Even better, an outburst where despite logically understanding that she's right, Chloe blames Ladybug for taking the easy way out of the Queen Bee problem.
Let's face it, Ladybug did take the easy solution here. Now, I don't blame Marinette at all for this. She's fourteen, has the world's weight on her shoulders, a very poor history with Chloe, and took the Bee Miraculous away because she thought that this would keep her teammate safe. Marinette did the best she could, with good intentions! Personally I think Fu should have stepped in here at least indirectly, but he's a poor mentor to Ladybug anyway (yes I have a "In Offense to..." post for him in mind) so of course paranoid Fu wouldn't involve himself. The point is that neither Marinette or Chloe are actually at fault for Queen Bee getting benched. It's a shitty situation that only delays the inevitable bomb from dropping on the heroes' heads by just a bit longer. Now, during this lull in storytelling, Hawkmoth should have tried approaching Chloe again. You know, send another Akuma maybe as she's venting to Sabrina about how she hates the situation she's been placed in. As a reminder, Chloe is the first person to reject an Akuma in this entire show. So for her to again (if more reluctantly) refuse Gabriel's offer to team up would be in character. A second interaction here could have forshadowed Miracle Queen better. Maybe Chloe pauses after Hawkmoth is done pitching his plan, and then after a second or two, she throws him out of her head. Give us another episode where's struggling, and I think her "turn to the Dark Side" in Miracle Queen would have been received much less poorly than it actually did.
This isn't to say that Chloe shouldn't have accepted Hawkmoth's offer. In my opinion, it's a good thing that she did, because it builds character. Even if I "Redemption Arc" had always been the goal, they absolutely could have still done this, so long as it got even a little bit of buildup. And...we again to the fundemental problem I have with Astruc's writing. I know there's other people in the room as well, but it's he who is the "lead writer" and who also made the most buzz about this choice online after Miracle Queen first released. Thomas just...doesn't know how to build up major events. With the sole exception of Shadowmoth's Last Attack, which I have nothing but praise for as a finale, Thomas literally never bothers showing us anything. This is also a problem I have with Gabriel's eventual spiral of insanity, because while "show don't tell" is a good policy to have, even "tell" is a much better option than nothing at all! The reason why Miracle Queen feels so bloody jarring is because for the first and last time in this show's history...they mostly managed to build up a proper Character Arc. Except Thomas and Co. fumbled at the end, and didn't devote almost any time to the entire Season's payoff!
I unironically believe this is just a targeted attack meant to drive anyone with common sense completely and utterly mad, because they spent twenty-something episodes building up to Miracle Queen...and failed to explain why it even happened. I mean yeah, "Gabriel bad, he has a plan, it actually works for once" is what we get, but this is a logical fallacy in and of itself, because if it was the plan from the beginning, then why isn't there any buildup for the final part of this character development? Thomas' failure to properly show the aftermath of Chloe's benching, and make it clear that she is falling into her bad habits again, therefore reverting to a "villain" character because she lacks the support system which helped her be a better person, is the exact reason why anyone is even arguing that there "should" have been a Redemption Arc in the first place!
Note again: Time for part 3, I promise I'm nearly done! Not like this took two weeks to write or something!
