Hey! I just wanted to say that I am so sorry for everything that you have been going through, and that I hope it all gets better soon. Advocating for yourself when trying to get a diagnosis is one of the most taxing things there is, especially when you are already so worn out by your symptoms.

Unfortunately I am not from the US, so maybe this won't be helpful at all, but have you requested that your healthcare providers write it explicitly on your patient records that they have denied you diagnostic imaging and medication? I have read that this method has helped some chronically-ill individuals get their diagnosis before, because it can make doctors/insurance providers feel liable if it does turn out that you had something serious that could have been identified sooner if they had provided the exam. Especially if the exam doesn't pose any risks to the patient, the paper trail pushes them to err on the side of caution.

No need to reply to this if you don't want to. Just sending good thoughts your way! And if it is worth anything, know that there is at least one Internet stranger who has faith in you.

Hey anon I know you said I didn’t have to reply but I didn’t want to leave you hanging. So the thing is I’m not really confrontational and I’m to great at advocating for myself. I also worry that because I’m young and I have a history of psychiatric hospitalizations they’ll just label me as a drug seeker when I really couldn’t care less about the drugs. Pain meds would be nice of course but I’d rather find the source of the pain and try to eliminate it rather than keep throwing pills at it. The closest I ever got to saying anything was when I was practically begging for a CT scan to ease my mind about pulmonary embolisms(I was tachycardic and coughing for like no reason) and was still told no, only to go back to the ER days later with an even higher heart rate where they gave me the ct and it was clear, thankfully, but I feel like I have a record now of getting “unnecessary” testing and will be taken less seriously if I were to start asking them to document them refusing or not ordering tests I want since all of my tests seem to come back normal despite me feeling like I’m dying every day 🥲

The only thing I can really do now is wait for my referrals for specialists to go through since the ER is only going to do the bare minimum to make sure you’re not actively dying and I’ll have to wait to see what testing the specialists want to do since my gp doesn’t have the authority to order testing(shit is weird here with insurance so only specialists can really order tests because they’ll try and say the gp doesn’t have the expertise to authorize things like mri’s or ct scans etc. and then insurance won’t cover it. It’s a mess).

Also it’s nice to hear someone has faith in me. I don’t have much for myself and everyone around me irl has given up because they’re fully convinced it’s all in my head and that I just want to stay home and do nothing which is not the case, I get zero enjoyment out of this since every day is the same and I barely sleep and I can’t focus to enjoy any of my old hobbies so it’s not like I’m sitting around all day binging junk food and playing my favorite games which is what I would do if I wasn’t sick and had unlimited money tbh lol. Instead my days consist of finding positions where I’m in the least amount of pain and passing time until my body lets me sleep again.

11 Anti LO Asks

1. I don't get it, weren't the fans praising Persephone for wanting to own up to her crimes and saying she deserves any punishment she receives? Why are they now upset she got a temporary punishment that isn't even different from her life pre-uni? Why is Persephone upset too? It's not forever. It's almost as if the fans only care about the aesthetics of looking morally "good" while they really wanted her to get away with murder, and Persephone is a bad person who lied to keep up her nice facade.

2. I legit do not get why LO fans act as if it's some personal affront when people don't like it and even critique it. How self centered if their worldview to think everyone has to obsessively love and praise what they like? What reality are they living in where this is a thing? Get a grip, kids, you're not important and people not liking what you do is not a personal insult, it's just life.

3. LO would probably be better handled if it was put under an age restriction like more mature romances and other comics are, but WT and Rachel would never allow it because then they can't market it as YA and get the biggest draw of tweens and teens to spend their parents' money on it, so now LO is left w/ trying to be tween friendly while also trying to do serious topics with all the nuance of "bullying is bad >:(" but instead of bullying it's being critical of rich mass murdering slave owners 🤔

4. how does rachel have at bare minimum four people working on LO and it only looks worse?? like is it because they arent paid well, is the pay as low as the effort theyre expected to do. i dont care how much thhe fans are obsessed with it they seriously cant think this looks better??

5. What's going to preemptively anger me is that with IRL people I know, r/aita, and even tumblr anecdotes, giving a teen time away from a grown man for a long enough period of time usually results in the teen going, "wow, that was actually fucked up. thank you for stopping that disaster." Yet I KNOW that in LO, Persephone's probably gonna have her love grow by tenfold and miss her dearly totally-not-creepy beloved.

From OP: On a side note, I hate when fans try to justify the age gap by saying “it’s normal” or “perfectly fine since they’re adults” when most people (especially from tumblr, reddit, and just people irl) find it weird as hell and very questionable on the older person’s end. It’s just a blatant lie to try and justify this creepy dynamic.

6. introducing a major villain with no actual build up or reason for them to be in the plot right before a season finale is, no matter how you cut it, bad writing, and that's only one of several poorly planned and executed writing in this thing.

From OP: Yeah, even Apollo had some kind of foreshadowing. The only thing that hinted at Eris was an old tumblr ask from RS (Before LO became an original, RS said something about Eris and Hades having a bad date but that’s probably retconed) and Hera’s line to Hebe about getting her sister. With the sister thing, it’s too vague to pinpoint on Eris since she could also be Nyx’s daughter.

7. ok now LO fans are just lying and saying it was "always supposed to be a dark story" and people who are calling out it didn't develop these aspects well and it should have stuck to its original lighter tone "cant see context clues" like?? yes it did have SA shown early on ... which was IMMEDIATELY dropped and had rachel right way go into making puns! even persephone admitting she killed a village was framed with fart jokes and forced romcom flirting! how is that being a "dark and serious" story?

8. Rachel Smythe seems to have taken a weird approach to making HxP sympathetic? Like, I feel like she's trying to make the infinitely threatening villains more infinitely threatening as a way to make it seem like the rich, straight, cis, white coded deities in the story are the underdogs. The classism almost seems to come from her being too concerned about the image of rich people. Which, come to think of it, actually makes a lot of sense.

9. Even if we get Perse aow "justified" by Eris blessing it still doesn't mean she is innocent. She knew for a very long time that there is something "wrong" with her and she may be dangerous to others but she did nothing with it. Even now after everything that happened she still let that feeling affect her and didn't tell anyone beside Hades who equally doesn't care she may hurt someone again. Her wrath may be not her fault but her actions are

10. Part of me wonders if RS actually took any writing classes or even... just did basic research about how to write cohesive stories? The plot and timeline of LO is all over the place and it includes a lot of unnecessary scenes with characters who don't have a large bearing on the plot (like that whole subplot with Eros and Psyche, Thanatos and Daphne, that flashback with Persephone and the yellow war god who's name I can't remember. Like what was the point of that flashback? She could have just told us they'd met before and left it at that). Even just stuff that could have taken much less time than it did, such as those Medusa ladies spying, that dinner with HxP, Hera, and Zeus, or Hades taking the photographer's eye out.

I just always found the story very confusing to read. I've taken writing classes for my novels before and LO follows none of the guidelines for good writing.

11. I'm just upset that RS chose to make Persephone a young, impressionable literal teenager when she could have made Persephone an older, elegant goddess with years of knowledge and experience about how her world works. Like, if she wanted the r*pe subplot so badly, it could have been set up as Persephone deliberately avoiding Apollo/trying to expose him throughout the story, whilst the readers and Hades try to piece together what happened between them in the past before it's actually revealed. It also would have eliminated the gross age gape and Persephone acting like a child, etc. While we're at it, we could probably just take out that whole uncomfortable, unnecessary subplot where Apollo takes those photos.

Short, sweet, and to the point. Follow these rules and we all have a great time.

1. Mutuals only. I must be following you and you must be following me. Only those that I follow can like starter calls, send in character asks, and reply to posts.

1a. I will not interact with non-Mutuals, that includes asks, unless it’s done anonymously and it doesn’t have a url attached. Anyone who breaks this rule will get about a few pardons but after that will be blocked.

2. My time is limited here in what I can do. This means that I am very selective in what I reply to. Doesn’t necessary mean that I am ignoring anyone. Some days I reply to everything and everyone, others I am so burnt out from irl things or work that I just lurk and do the bare minimum. My mental health and well-being comes before anything else.

2a. Replies vary by length and time. I normally work eight to ten hours a day and experience a lot of exhaustion. Unless I don’t see a thread or an ask going anywhere and publicly make a post saying it’s been dropped, consider everything as pending / will do ASAP. Memes are okay to send in late unless it clearly states, not accepting. My timezone is Eastern Standard Time or EST. United States is where I am located at. I am usually online from 10 PM EST to 3 AM EST unless it’s a day off from work, which the online time will vary from 12 PM EST to 3 AM EST.

2b. Role-playing is a hobby, not a job. Do not pester me for replies or asks to be answered. I am not obligated to owe anyone anything on this website. I am human and can’t cater to everyone’s needs. Being persistent here is not going to make me answer yours faster than other people.

2c. Don’t follow, unfollow, and then refollow my blog. It’s not going to make me want to follow you back, ever. It’s annoying and no one is being crafty by doing that. If you continue to do this and it isn’t a tumblr glitch, I will be inclined to block and possibly report for spam.

3. If you do need to break mutuals with me, HARD BLOCK my blog. Don’t just UNFOLLOW or SOFT BLOCK because chances are that I could mistakenly follow you again. And that’s something we both don’t want since it would be quite awkward.

3a. I have the right to unfollow whoever I want to and so do you. Please don’t go on a hunt and try to guilt trip me into following you back again. Just don’t. I can and will tell you the reason why I unfollowed you but other than that, just let me leave in peace.

3b. Personal blogs and non RP blogs will be blocked on site. Please, if you have a side blog let me know through asks so I don’t accidentally block you. IMs are not a good way to let me know since they are closed for non-mutuals.

4. Duplicates are welcomed to follow me. The more the merrier. I do not suffer from same muse anxiety and encourage any of the same muse to follow me. Only request is that you don’t steal my headcanons, edits or icons. Other than that, we should all be able to have a good time. I’m always up for twin verses or alternate universes shenanigans.

4a. Original Characters are allowed to follow me. However, they need to be a little flesh out before I make a decision to follow them back or not. Just a small backstory or biography is all that I need. Headcanons also work if there isn’t an about page but must have about one page worth for me to consider following.

4b. Crossover Characters from other shows are allowed to follow me but I must know about said muse or else I’ll have a hard time whether to follow or not. Few fandoms I won’t interact with because I have no interest in these series are: Avatar the Last Airbender, Avatar the Legend of Korra. ( more to be added ).

5. I am a multi-ship blog. Arsene himself is ageless but his physical form is around 25 when he became a shadow / persona / demon and as such, I will only be shipping him romantically with muses around the 20s to 30s range. Some threads may get a little spicy but nothing that requires a ‘do not read at work’ type of posts. I will tag those post that are suggestive with a ‘spicy: tw & spicy for ts’ and ‘Looks like someone needs proper punishment’ for blacklisting purposes.

5a. I am open to all kinds of ships, not just romantic ones. I also enjoy platonic, rivalry, and familiar bonds. All ships are open to discussions through my IM(s) or otherwise known as Instant Messenger. Chemistry is key. As long as we interact a little, there’s always the chance that both muses can be in a relationship.

6. Things for you to tag for me are: BIRDS, CHAIN LETTERS, ORGANS, DOGS. For the birds and dogs, just in real life ones trigger me. I am fine with cartoon / art / video game ones as they are not real.

The more memes / asks, the merrier.

9a. Feel free to turn inbox replies into threads. Just remember to make separate post when replying. Do not reblog threads not meant for you and don’t reblog my headcanons. It’s okay to reblog my asks though if you want them to be keepsakes on your own blog. Also, it’s alright to reblog musings and images from me.

10. I rather not be bothered by callout posts and any potential drama that might accumulate. I am just here to have fun and I hope everyone else can too. Life is too short to spend on certain things that don’t matter in the long run. If I see multiple call out posts from you in a single day or that’s all you post, I will quietly unfollow you.

11. Out of character posts will be on here from time to time. Mostly talking about life in general or me venting once in a great while. If this annoys you, please remember that this is my blog, not yours. You are welcomed to unfollow / block at any time.

Monster Hunter Rating 13: Vespoid

There are a few things I dislike about the Spring season, but at the top of list? The ants and wasps come back. Freaking ants keep getting in my freaking house crawling in my freaking kitchen because they want my freaking food! But it could be worse; they could all be wasps. I despise having to live with those things around, even if I’ve only ever been stung once as a little kid (yellowjackets are on my sh*t list forever for that, by the way). But it could be worse; they could all be Vespoids.

Appearance: Y’know, I really wish I could make out these guys’ faces better, but I can’t exactly do anything about that, so let’s go over the rest of them. Vespoids look like your average purple wasps that just happen to be four feet tall. Well, okay, not really. Real wasps don’t have three pairs of wings or barbed stingers (at least it looks like there’s a barb at the stinger’s base), nor do their stingers protrude that far out of their bodies at all times (and before anyone brings up ichneumon wasps, those are ovipositors that are used to bore into wood to lay eggs on/in things like grubs; they can’t be used like stingers). Other than the wings, color, and maybe the face, Vespoids look basically like you’d expect a giant wasp to look, but they’re just alien enough that they don’t really give me the same anxieties as looking at a wasp up-close would. 5/10.

Behavior: Like a lot of other wasps, Vespoids live in colonies with a Queen. Where are these colonies? Practically everywhere! Forests, jungles, swamps, deserts, volcanoes--for God’s sake, these things can even live in snowy areas no sweat, so you’re probably never safe from these things outside of a village! Apart from the Queen, Vespoids come in two varieties: the smaller, more fragile workers and the larger, more aggressive soldiers. The workers have the jobs you’d expect: tidying up the hive, taking care of the Queen and eggs, and gathering food. The soldiers, on the other hand, have one purpose: protect the Queen with their lives. Now, you would think that the wiki would have more data on these two varieties, but it doesn’t. I’ve even looked at the Vespoid Queen page to see if there was any mention of the Vespoids involved in her fight being different from the ones you normally encounter, but no dice. I guess there’s a reason this image is on every monster’s ecology page:

The Vespoids you see most often are the workers searching for food. As you’d expect from wasps, “food” basically means anything they can kill. If the prey is small, they’ll paralyze it with a sting or two and carry it back to the colony. If the prey is a biggun, multiple workers will sting it before cutting it into pieces that can be transported back to the colony. Ew. The workers are well-equipped to traveling great distances in search of food thanks to their lightweight bodies, which aren’t weighed down by their durable exoskeletons...I say “durable” because the wiki says “durable,” but these guys have the Hornetaur problem of “hit me and I shatter.” I’d cut them some slack by pointing out that the attacks they’re hit with are coming from powerful weapons which might not even kill them in one hit, or from even more powerful monsters, but those things are the norm for the wildlife of this world, so no slack will be cut for them. See previous comment about above image. Anyways, Vespoids can be so successful that their colonies can become too large to support, so when that happens, they’ll split the colony up into smaller colonies that are still relatively close to the main one, but are dispersed over a wider area. I don’t know if this is behavior seen in eusocial animals irl, but it’s pretty interesting. The Vespoids are basically a mix between ants and wasps in behavior, from what I can tell, which is...decent, I guess. They still kinda feel like the bare minimum you need to do to make a eusocial animal. The thought of a small procession of giant wasps carrying chunks of meat through the air is pretty morbid, though, and sometimes, that’s what counts. 6/10.

Abilities: What do you think these guys use to fight? Those stingers aren’t for show; they’re packing a payload of neurotoxin used to paralyze prey. Even though their attacks are more of a nuisance for hunters who are already in a battle than a substantial threat (which tells you just how much more powerful the humans of the MH world are than us), need I remind you that these things travel together? If they weren’t so easy to kill, they’d probably be as bad as some of the larger monsters you have to fight. But that’s all these guys have for an attack, which is basically what real wasps do (except, you know, it’s coming from a wasp that’s 4 feet long). 4/10.

Equipment: Unfortunately, all Vespoid weapons are recolors of Hornetaur weapons. This is likely because they were the first insectoid monsters in the series and many of their weapons use parts from both of them. For example, the Duals Blades known as the Insect Slicer are made by upgrading the Insector+ (which looks exactly like the Insector and the Insect Slicer) with both Hornetaur and Vespoid parts:

You can tell that these are more Hornetaur-themed based off the colors. But you can upgrade the Insect Slicer into the Alated Insect, which has a color scheme closer to Vespoids:

Though, honestly, Vespoids aren’t as shiny as Hornetaurs are, so this still doesn’t exactly look right. Another weapon that uses both Hornetaur and Vespoid parts is a Hunting Horn called the Sonic Glass:

Again, more Hornetaur than Vespoid. I didn’t show this off when I covered Hornetaurs because I wanted to stick to weapons which didn’t require parts from multiple specific monsters because I thought it would be harder to say which monster the weapon was based off of, but now that I think about it, that’s stupid. You can tell by looking at this that it’s themed after the Hornetaur. But the version of the Sonic Glass that appears in Monster Hunter World, the Sonic Horn, has a color scheme that’s much more like the Vespoid’s:

...look, it’s ugly, but I’ve mentioned before that I’ve been told Monster Hunter World has the worst weapon designs in the series. And before anyone asks why I’m not showing off the Glass Royale, that’s clearly based off the Vespoid Queen, not the regular ones. All right, now it’s time for the armor to just be the Hornetaur armor recolored.

Oh. They’re actually different. Didn’t expect that. Well, they’re very...pointy. Seriously, there are spikes all over these things. And the female set’s helmet looks like a bug’s head, and knowing Monster Hunter, it’s probably real. Ew. I definitely like the Hornetaur Armor better than this, ‘cause it’s just...kinda dull and ugly. The colors don’t do a lot for it. I hate how every Vespoid weapon is either a recolor or closer to the Hornetaur in terms of theme, and the armor, while unique, is unappealing. At least the raptors had some unique weapons, even though they had basically the same armor. The Hornetaur weapons offer a lot in terms of design, but I feel like I have to give this a low score on principle. 4/10.

Final Thoughts and Tally: Look, when I said that this was “definitely gonna be more interesting” than the Velociprey, that was because I didn’t know how plain and unoriginal the Vespoids were. I just saw “giant bug” and thought it would be cool. Don’t blame me for that! Well, good news is, the next monster has to be more interesting than the Vespoid, for reasons that you’ll see when I get to it...or if you wanna go to the Monster List on the wiki yourself, but that’s called “spoiling.” 4/10.

Hehe, I really stopped drawing so often for a while thus the amount of art for everything I love was limited, now with commission’s people’s letting me art Diabolik Lovers more often! I do pretend to draw more DL for myself as well >3

I like horror in general! Though I don’t read around much, I listen to a lot of creepy stories on youtube! Thanks to that I’m pretty sure I know the games you mentioned. I’m very respectful of “the unknown” even if I don’t really believe in ghosts. I do believe there could be extra dimensions that we can’t perceive for our human nature, thus there could be creatures we can never know or perceive other than their shadow.

I don’t live my life thinking about that tho, but I do enjoy horror, I love creating monsters even!

For reading though the SCP foundation has some creepy ass articles that I enjoy, too. Look it up!

I know the feeling of hearing a lot of horror, sometimes I hear too many horror IRL news and I get a bit depressed over how shitty this world can be, for that I recommend searching for cute animals and nature stuff, gives you back the hopes.

About Leon’s wife! Seven’s character was a mercenary before meeting Leon and has quite the dark past, she never revealed her face because in universe a lot of her funds go to an hospital that takes care of survivors of biological experiments (as long as some consciousness remains). To assure them a minimum of decency in life.

The problem is that she is a mercenary so the government allows her to work (that hospital is useful way to clean what Umbrella did) as long as it’s not known where the money comes from, to keep an image.

After meeting Leon since the story is still being written, I’m not sure whether she’ll be used as an agent and still be a mercenary or not, but I do think they’ll tighten the ropes around her neck.

Thing is her face can’t be related to her job, so she normally wears a mask and keeps her name hidden as well! And since I adored Sebastian’s character I decided to, in their story, make him their son XDD.

You can headcanon about her face all you want! Actually that’s what I wanted (even though through the mask you can see her eye color or even her skin color, hair and facial features mostly go hidden)

It makes me a bit of happy to have a character that holds at least a very tiny bit of mystery around them ♥ (≧▽≦)

Starting work in the industry 15 years ago, Lou has become one of glammest and most in demand make-up artists working today. She reflects on a changing industry and offers some tips to help guide you through it…

Everyone always asks me how to break into the make-up industry, what steps I took and what advice I can give. Well, how I did it is useless to all of you now because so much has changed. The old school beauty path vs. the new school beauty path isn't the same, but hopefully I can still help. I started my career 15 years ago, when YouTube was just for watching music videos, and the now editors of British Vogue were writing the first fashion blogs on Myspace. There were no beauty tutorials, and contouring was only taught as theatre make-up.

I went to London College of Fashion and studied Fashion Styling and Make-up before going on to work as an assistant. The beginning of most make-up artists' careers consist of over-priced courses, maybe some time as a counter girl for minimum wage, assisting on shoots that you'll get no money for and living in crappy flats in the city desperately hoping to get a break. But from working as an assistant, I managed to join the X Factor glam team, and from there got taken on by One Direction when they signed a record deal.

Fast-forward to 2017 and with Instagram, YouTube and vlogging it's a brand new industry! This generation of make-up artists are self-taught and self-employed, all from their bedrooms. They are more accurately described as "beauty influencers", and they are walking advertisements for both their skills and the products they are using. Selfie culture has introduced a multitude of faces that can move product. The digitalisation of the beauty industry demands that companies use influencers to create brand awareness and sell their products for them. Social media now dominates how we use and understand beauty and lifestyle. Not only that, beauty influencers have the ability to make serious money through sponsored ad posts. Much like when I started, and had to take assisting jobs for free, in the beginning of your beauty influencer career you need to tag loads of products and use tons of hashtags to get your content noticed. Once your profile begins to get traction, brands begin approaching you. Now, they have truly embraced the idea that girls trust their social media feeds more then they trust celebrity-endorsed adverts.

So the question is, in 2017, how do I become a beauty influencer? Here are some tips and tricks to be social media savvy.

Content, content, content... We used to have to go "testing". Shooting in our free time, for nothing. And then the only people who saw those shoots were the people we dragged our portfolios around IRL. Long. How hard is it to be constantly curating some easy beauty content for your followers to consume? Your Instagram, YouTube, vlogs, etc. need to be constantly spitting out vids and cool images. And that's easy compared with how we did it. The more, the better. If anyone tells you less is more, check their followers and I bet they have none. Contour your content and keep a consistent aesthetically pleasing theme on your social media pages. Even down to cleaning your tools, no one wants to see a filthy beauty blender on YouTube.

No trolling... Social media is your beauty community. I use it to meet other make-up artists or assistants on shoots and to keep in touch with everyone... but then it's easy to be super nice to real life people. These days you need to be sending love and emojis back and forth on each others tutorials. Be interactive, follow and support each other.

Basic bitch problems... Social media has demanded that the industry check themselves before every photo shoot, catwalk or selfie. Ten years ago when images of white girls in cornrows or wearing bindis simply graced the pages of Vogue, the reader was silenced and we, the makers of the content, could produce whatever we wanted. By definition, cultural appropriation is the use of the elements of one culture by members of another culture. And the internet is reminding us stealing from other cultures is just not cool. Culture isn't a fashion statement or a beauty moment for us to use as we please. Make sure your content is not offending anyone please!

Brush up on boyfriend make-up...

Boys have been wearing make-up long before David Bowie transformed into Ziggy Stardust, or KISS ever took to the stage, but it seems recently make-up is finally on the way to becoming totally genderless to society. Images online of guys rocking a smokey eye or a bright pink lip better than you has made make-up on boys the new normal. This is not to be confused with the idea that boys wearing make-up is a hot new trend, it's just refreshing to see the internet and the beauty world breaking another barrier between the genders through exposure. Make-up as an art form should never be left just for girls or famous rockstars, and I truly believe it is because of social media that it is becoming more socially and culturally accepted to see make-up on boys. Finally. So don't be afraid to give your feed some gender-bending glam.

Your next IG selfie make-up how to… Prep and clean your face. Mix in a drop of liquid illuminator with your foundation for dat glo. Apply foundation evenly with a wet beauty blender -- wet it loads then ring it out, these are NOT meant to be used dry! With a darker foundation stick, sharply contour your cheekbones, temples, nose and chin with prominent lines. Blend. Contour those cheekbones one more time. With concealer and setting powder, pack that lighter, brighter colour under your eyes. Also, apply lighter colour under cheekbones and middle of the forehead and down the bridge of the nose. Blend. Liquid highlighter and powder highlighter on tops of cheekbones and tip of your nose. Bit more highlighter. Bit of bronzer. With a good pomade, shape and fill your brows. Now eyes (we've only just started you know). Take a warm, rich red / copper colour and apply all over the lid and buff into the crease. Sweep the red under your waterline as well. Take a true gold pigment and dab the pigment onto the centre of the eyelid, making it the focus point of your eye. Grab some falsies and glue them on for that dramatic lash game, Cheryl Cole's are actually surprisingly good. Finish off with mascara on both your falsies and lower lashes. Use a light-brown liner and liquid lipstick to finish the look.

Your next Raya date make-up (no make-up make-up) how to… Prep and clean your face. Cover up any spots (don't panic and pop the big one that grew over night) with concealer. Hold tissue to your bleeding spot because you popped it. Take an elixir and mix it in with your foundation. Apply foundation evenly with a wet beauty blender. Conceal under eyes. Lightly contour your cheekbones with a darker powder or bronzer. Lightly apply highlighter to cheekbones and cupids bow. Fill in eyebrows with an eyebrow pencil. In the crease, blend in a nude taupe colour to define your eyes. Apply a couple layers of mascara. Carefully apply red lip liner, fill in with a matte liquid red lip.

Your next festival look where you won't culturally appropriate how to…. Prep and clean your face (make sure it's water in that bottle, not vodka). Apply a tinted SPF moisturiser all over your face. Lightly fill in brows with a pencil. Grab a red eyeshadow (or red lipstick) with lots of pigment and apply all over the lid and crease and under waterline. Apply an iridescent glitter highlighter generously all over your cheekbones. Apply a couple layers of mascara… red mascara is even better. Put your hair in space buns.

Early Prototyping in TTS

Tabletop Simulator (TTS) is a video game that lets people play numerous board games on a virtual table with friends over the internet. It also allows people to create virtual board games.

When creating a board game in TTS, all of the “assets” for their custom components (images, 3D models, and so on) need to be hosted online. Most people use free hosting services like Imgur to store these assets, and use the urls to those files in their game.

This works fine until they want to make any changes to the files themselves.

When they upload the new version a new url is generated. This means they either have to recreate those components within their game, or fiddle around with their game’s “.json” file to change them all themselves.

Which kinda sucks.

Especially while you’re prototyping your game, making frequent changes to stats and text and format, and adding new cards and so on.

I’ve been playing with TTS for prototyping and, being the pragmatic programmer-y type that I am, have figured out a nice little workflow.

I’ll be talking pretty exclusively about creating custom cards in this post, but the principles should be identical for any other kind of custom component. I also go through the process of prototyping a game, but if you’re recreating a game in TTS a lot of ideas should still work for you.

Local/Offline Hosting

When you’re first putting together your game, testing it locally without other players, you don’t even need to host! There’s a special folder you can use to put all of your images and still load them into the game like usual. On Windows at least, this is found in Documents > My Games > Tabletop Simulator > Mods > Images. (You can find the path for your system by looking on the game’s knowledgebase.)

This folder keeps all of the images used by any game you ever access, so there may be a ton of files in there already. All you need to do is copy in the image you want to use. For Custom Decks, this would be the card sheet images.

First change its name to something easily identifiable. I simply add an underscore at the start so that it pops up at the top of the folder (when sorting the files by name). In general, as long as it doesn’t start with “http” the file shouldn’t get overwritten by TTS.

Then drag it into the folder and make your deck!

In the Custom Deck menu, there are a number of options. There are a couple I’d like to talk about.

First is the Width and Height sliders. This dictates how many cards across and how many down there are in your card sheet image. It uses these numbers to figure out where to “cut” that image to make the cards themselves.

So say you’ve got 10 cards in your game. You could lay them out in a 4 x 3 grid in your image. Then you’d set Width to 4 and Height to 3. (Note that the last card in the bottom-right of the image will be used as the “hidden” side, for when other players aren’t allowed to see the face of your card.)

And then there’s the Face and Back URLs. Here, you normally paste the urls for those hosted images. But as we’re using those local/offline files, we can just use their filenames. So if you called your face card sheet “_Face Card Sheet.png,” you can just type "_Face Card Sheet.png” into the Face text box. Same goes for the Back text box.

Change Number to 10, fill in the rest of your settings, hit Import, and watch your beautiful new deck load in! Congratulations!

And because you can change your image directly, you can easily make changes to it. All you need to do is save your game, overwrite the image in the TTS Mods folder, and reload the game. The new image will be loaded when the cards are made within your game, which means any changes will be reflected in TTS!

This would be a pretty efficient way of doing things. You can have fewer cards at a higher resolution and make your game look nice and pretty. And the ease of updating the cards speeds up development of your board game considerably.

But we can do better.

Minimum effort, maximum return

The problem with this method is that once it’s imported, you’re tied to having that many cards in your game. (You can import multiple decks, but it just takes more time to update multiple files than it does to update one big file with everything in.) When you’re prototyping you don’t just edit the existing cards; you add new ones.

Here’s what I recommend in those early playtesting days. Width 10, Height 7, Number 69. These are the maximum settings for any deck. Now, as the recommended size for a deck sheet image is 4096 x 4096, so if you follow that guideline each card would only be as big as 409 x 585 in size. This is a lower resolution than if you had fewer cards and used the space more efficiently, so your cards may become a tad blurry when zooming in. But bear with me...

After changing your card sheet to be 10 x 7, Import your deck with those maximum settings. You’ll have a load of blank cards at the bottom of your new deck. Don’t worry; that’s intentional. Don’t remove them just yet.

Now make a copy of that entire deck. (Don’t paste it on top of the old one; just put it somewhere else.) Add a bag onto the table (Chest > Tools > Bag) and drag one of those decks into it for safekeeping, and put that bag to one side.

Now you can go and delete all the blank cards you don’t need from the remaining deck on the table. An easy way of doing this would be to hover over the deck and hit “99″ on your keyboard to draw up to 99 cards from the deck (all of them in this case). You can now easily drag a box around the blank cards and hit “Delete.” Then drag a box around the other cards and hit “G” to group them into a deck again. Job done!

But why are we going through all this?

The idea is to waste none of your card slots. If you need to add a card to the deck, just add that card to your card sheet, overwrite the local image with the new version, and reload your game. If you drag your “backup” deck out of the bag, one of those blank cards will now show the card you added. You can just Right-click > Search the back-up deck, drag out the new card, copy it into your “testing” deck, and put it back.

Normally you’d need to re-import the whole deck and sort it all out again, splitting it up, moving it around, whatever you need to do to set up your game. But using this method, you can a) make changes to the existing cards and they’ll stay in the right places for when you want to playtest next, and b) add cards super-easily.

What you lose in image quality on the cards you gain in speed of tweaking your board game prototype! It makes early prototyping and testing almost as easy as paper and pencil tweaking IRL, but you don’t have to go through the hours of work it takes to get that first prototyping up and running. (More on that soon!)

Once you’re ready to playtest with other players, you can still upload the card sheet images and import as you would normally. But there are ways of making this process easier, too. Tune in next time to fine out more! ^^
