Trying to recommend people Kiss of the Spider Woman but being like “ok so it’s a love story kind of like it’s about love but it’s debatably unrequited but also they fuck and they would never actually interact if they weren’t cell mates and even though adaptions of it kind of simplify their relationship to an enemies to friends to lovers type thing but it’s actually a secret third thing in the novel and play kind of like they don’t hate each other in the novel but they’re also like annoyed with each other sometimes before they grow to care about each other but also-“ is so difficult but also like it speaks to how Manuel Puig wrote one of the most beautiful and unique relationships in literary history and idk even just in fiction in general I’ve never seen a relationship like theirs before or since

Going to do a Nevermoor series reread in June + July + August ? if anyone else also wants to do a reread around that time, could be fun to have more of the fandom prepping for Silverborn
Did initially make a roadmap plan to split the books up into weeks on top of already being months, so that people could focus on specific parts and discuss each week….. but between the fact that I messed it up the first time, Silverborn kept getting delayed as I planned it, and I’m actually really bad at keeping to stuff like that (looking at you, Silverborn Countdown Challenge…) I’m deciding to just go for it at whatever pace happens.

OMG THE HOWL'S MOVING CASTLE BOOK!!! OBSESSED... my fave Welsh magician
RIGHT AND HE'S SO FREAKING PATHETIC I LOVE HIM.
Movie Howl is a fearsome terrifying wizard that can turn into a scary bird and also has some smooth moves.
Book Howl is Just Some Guy (TM) who graduated college with a degree he didn't know what to do with and was like I'm gonna avoid my responsibilities and go into this magic dimension and then avoid some more until he met a lady mean enough to scare him into love and like actually do things and be responsible (gross).
I love him so much it's my fave book of all time

I am re-reading Night Letter and am realizing I didn't do nearly enough research into scar tissue as I should have 💀 I spent hours researching lavender marriages and U.S. Army dog tags from the 1950s (as well as ranks and dismissals and such) instead of researching one of the defining characteristics of the main character, aka his severe facial scarring.
Anyway here I am retconning his scars - they are hypertrophic NOT keloid. That is entirely on me because I didn't know what the fuck the term was for it and assumed that if they were raised then they HAD to be keloids. I'm so sorry for this. Like deeply.
For those who don't know the difference, I don't recommend looking up pics unless you're okay with seeing mild medical g*re. Brief description of the aforementioned scar types:
Keloid: raised, shiny, firm & rubbery in texture with no distinct pattern. Caused by an excess of collagen deposits during the healing process. These scars invasively extend PAST the area of the original wound and do not regress over time. Hard to treat. Can form over months to years after an injury. More common in black folks and other melanated people who have a family history of keloid scarring.
Hypertrophic: raised, but not to the degree of keloids, and can also be different colors and usually have a distinct wavy pattern due to collagen deposits. Also caused by an excess of collagen, but not to the extent of keloids. These scars do NOT extend past the area of the original wound, typically do not recur, and CAN regress over time. Typically appear within a month of two of an injury and do not continue to progress (typically begin to regress actually).
I'm attaching an image below the cut comparing the two.
Left is keloid, right is hypertrophic. You'll see the difference. It's easy to confuse them because they're similar in depiction, but this is a good visual example of exactly HOW they are different. Raised scars =/= keloids!!! Do NOT be a fool like me!!!!

it's me and all the women in literature described in despondent unhappiness in a marriage that they don't hate but don't enjoy as they should and who feel as if they're not the way a woman should be and who yearn to be free of their husband and children not because they despise them but because they're not for a husband and children and who can't say that they're miserable but who feel a numb kind of despair in all that disconnectedness and disconnectedness and disconnectedness. they are just like me for real

Elric thoughts that've been in my head since I reread the Elric Saga Vol. 1 and started on Vol. 2:
Slightly disappointed/annoyed that Dyvim Tvar didn't defy Yyrkoon after he declared Elric an outlaw. It was dumb of him to leave Yyrkoon on the throne while he explored the Young Kingdoms, but its basically a repeat of what happened in Elric of Melniboné except the only Melnibonéan that showed any loyalty was Tanglebones (rip). Shout out Tanglebones. But yeah no it feels like Dyvim Tvar did a complete 180, because he jumped at the first chance to help Elric when Yyrkoon tried to kill him before, but now he assists Yyrkoon (though I suppose maybe just Melniboné itself?) and has to have known that Elric was with the Sealords raiding Imrryr (elemental wind, getting through the sea maze, etc). Maybe I'll get answers in a future story, since he probably isn't dead yet...
Also when does Elric learn where Tanelorn is?? Like, Elric parts from Rackhir as he searches for Tanelorn, and all we really get is other characters bringing up Tanelorn/Rackhir to Elric so he can mention that he knows someone that's seeking the eternal city. And then all of a sudden he just knows where Tanelorn is and that Rackhir has found it despite not seeing him between Elric of Melniboné and The Vanishing Tower. Cool that Brut of Lashmar came back though. And Jhary/Jaspar and Whiskers. The timeline desync with Corum is kinda neat, now that I understand what he was talking about in the Sailor on the Seas of Fate. The Three-Who-Are-One somehow makes more and less sense than the Four-Who-Are-One though. Cool that they got to merge like a megazord for the Agak/Gagak thing, but just linking arms is just about the same thing, which I don't really get but that's fine.
