DRDT Chapter 2 Episode 13: First Impressions

Woo! DRDT! It is time! Time for despair! Let’s go! My excitement has not faded in the slightest from last week; if anything, it’s stronger than before. Here are my first impressions of this week’s episode!!!

Spoilers for CH2 EP13

It’s starting! Levi’s got some explaining to do. Will someone (say, Eden) have an interesting reaction?

Alright, J’s not the one I expected to have first reaction, but cool.

“You…” Is Ace okay? 

“Ah. I didn’t expect that.” Rose’s legendary reaction.

YOU CANNOT “THAT’S WACK” THIS SITUATION WHIT

Oh, so people know, but the court struck it. Interesting.

Ah, there’s the Ace reaction. Also, “no way Hope’s Peak scouted a murderer” but you have a poisoner on another secret and an art forger, at least. Not the same level maybe, but still. 

“Don’t make the mistake of switching cause and effect.” Of course Hope’s Peak is responsible, that was my first gut instinct. God, it’s so shady in this universe.

Woo, Levi backstory! Three “old enemies?”

… Bro??? I don’t think any of us actually expected more than one murder, but I might be wrong on that. Self-defense, then two first degrees, huh?

“Were you in the mafia or something?” Thanks J.

“I don’t think I need to elaborate” No, you do. You really should elaborate. Please? For me?

“Who did you even kill?” And… Levi!Accomplice is looking rougher by the second. Then again, maybe she didn’t know.

Levi tracked two of them down, but doesn’t know who they were? How?

“That car I blew up once?” HUH???

“That’s… kind of a lot to admit all of the sudden.” True, Rose. I’m trying to see what he’s cooking, but I can’t tell.

How do you forget this? Jeez.

“How could you forget?” You know, Arturo, I was kinda irrationally worried Charles was about to throw in his secret phrase, but it’s cool that you avoided that. Thanks.

[For the uninformed; it’s theorized the characters will, at some point in the series, say the quotes hidden in the source code of their dedicated pages out loud, since Min and Arei both said theirs, and Xander’s could be in a flashback. That means that if a character says their secret quotes, their chances of dying go up drastically.]

“If you don’t care about murder, you could be the murderer.” (Paraphrased) Yes thanks Veronika not the point. 

“Almost as if you don’t care…” Great. I didn’t know where Levi was going with this, now I don’t know where Veronika is going with her schtick.

I’m surprised Ace is taking it relatively well [as in, not outwardly terrified]. I guess near death does that to someone.

Woo! Time frame! Junior high school! 

Interesting, so he didn’t start fashion because of the murder. That’s kinda what I was thinking, but I was wrong.

We’re getting our first crumbs of Hope’s Peak being ultra shady in main series! After Rose’s backstory ig. Unfortunately the “pretentious revolutionaries” aren’t here to “hand out tickets of lead” ← LGI brainrot

You didn’t lead with that?! Also, what?! I laughed out loud at the fucking absurdity of the statement, but what?!

“It’s a bit of a bother.” The bothersome part is that they’re phrased vaguely and not that they reveal you’re a murderer, got it.

Eden’s reaction is… neutral, I guess? Makes sense either way?

Eden!Culprit has always been hard to maintain during the trial, huh… Still took the tape though. And I guess it’s potentially interesting she’s getting this much dialogue about Levi’s thing. Teruko’s yet to speak this episode.

“I wonder if I should really tell the truth…” Bro what do you mean there’s more truth to tell?

Oh, hey, speaking of Teruko. And it seems she and I share a mind.

“I don’t care about people at all.” Ooooh, I like this. Some kind of condition?

I feel a little bit like Veronika, interested in hearing his experience with this. Feeling like Veronika is probably a bad thing.

“You’re still a stranger to me.” Levi’s quickly climbing the ranks of fave characters, btw. This is super interesting.

“But you’re a good person-” DO NOT “good person” right now, Eden! That’s a point to Levi!Accomplice, maybe? Maybe not? I don’t know what’s happening. And I still don’t get what Levi is trying to do here.

Double “good person?” Bro what is happening.

“I don’t personally care what happens to Ace.” Mood (that’s a joke I like Ace).

PFT- Ace’s reaction lol.

“But it is “good” to make sure someone else doesn’t die-” Goodbye Levi!Accomplice! I liked you, but I’m probably gonna go try to find other theories after this episode :p (This is a joke, btw; if I didn’t discount theories like Hu!Culprit when the new alibis came up, I’m not going to completely abandon Levi!Accomplice over this. But, just saying, there might be a few revisions to be made)

“Good thing I didn’t fall for it. Not one bit.” Oh they’re eating GOOD good!

“There’s only one person in my whole life who I’ve ever been able to call my friend-” IS THAT A FUCKING TAYLOR REFERENCE?!?!?! Holy shit, I don’t know how many people are even gonna remember we have a canon name for that dude. I hope someone still has the screenshot of the deleted answer from the CH2 Part 1 Q&A. 

“I really hope you fucking die.” We are active in Trial 2 Part 2, huh? Between Arturo telling him to “shut his whore mouth” and this, Levi’s getting verbally jumped!

“You’re quite the interesting person, Levi” Please Veronika, give me the psychoanalysis.

Dude, that’s three “good person” drops all on Levi. Chat the importance of this phrase may have been slightly overexaggerated by me (then again, the list of “good person” people has yet to grow from last chapter).

“You act like a big pushover because-” This is the psychoanalysis I came to see!

I don’t know if I’d call it “intuitive understanding” but I guess Levi’s not fully wrong about Veronika.

Four “good person.” And that’s not counting Veronika’s “good people.”

Five. Also, this continues to be interesting. Why did Levi bring this up again?

“After looking at David, I thought being honest-” Okay that’s hilarious.

“Try looking in a mirror…” First David line of the episode, right? And it’s a nice one of course.

That’s six cases of “good person” in this chapter alone holy shit. At least it’s David, who still had counts.

“I apologize for this tangent” Then can you please explain why the tangent exists in the first place? Or is it really just because being honest is "good"?

“I can’t believe there was a time I liked you.” Yeah Acevi is still eating good. I doubt the hostility is gonna drive the shippers away; that’s what they’re here for, right?

And of course Whit’s first line makes him look suspicious. Bro you have an alibi for the time of disappearance of fish and you didn’t take the tape from the gym, stop pretending to be the killer.

“Let’s not jump to conclusions.” Thank you Hu, but let me jump to a conclusion. Is Levi not gonna explain why he revealed his secret beyond the honesty thing?

Okay J’s response is good too.

“No, [Arei] didn’t [talk to Levi about the secret]” Bro what the fuck are we even talking about anymore.

I’m guessing David’s still not gonna reveal it. We still need to see a Teruko teacher CG, and I don’t think we’re gonna have time for that if he brings it up.

“I’ll never be a good person.” Ten, and the tenth hurts a LOT. I don’t think David’s lying, members of the jury. Holy shit this is sad.

“Like Santa Claus…” Didn’t Charles bring up something like that talking with Teruko in the computer room? Interesting connection. I guess not “all that glitters,” yeah.

That’s big for Eden!Culprit: My current guess is that someone (ie Veronika) will want to discuss the Ace-Nico thing, which will lead to them discovering Eden took the tape. Two, what the fuck do you mean you’ve seen this before?!

“You have?” Looking kinda worried there, Eden…

“And so have you.” Okay am I forgetting something? Min’s execution wasn’t like this, what the hell…

“Me?” Eden, honey, the allegations…

“We’re going to talk about a different case…” Oh shit Teruko’s got the Ace method figured out? I would really love to hear that because I have no idea what the hell was happening with that one. Also, I called it! Didn’t expect it to be Teruko who brought us back to the Ace case, but still. 

“Explain yourself, Nico.” YEAH!!!! I’m actually really excited. I’m gonna look into revising my theory on that case before the next episode, see if I can figure it out, since I think the old methods I’ve discussed with others don’t quite line up with what Teru’s describing.

General Thoughts:

Holy shit. Just. So much happened. It’s too much peak.

The Eden CG is the first thing on my mind; that’s crazy. Did she really take out Xander’s eye? I have zero idea what else I would be looking at. Certainly not MM!Eden, too obvious, but I don’t know what’s happening there. No fucking idea. I might make a more detailed post when I get my thoughts in order, but all I’m saying; the possibility the girl she kissed was Mai? That Mai told her about Teruko, and Eden attacked Xander in the pre-prologue killing game to protect Teruko? Hmm…

The secrets are huge, too. Nothing wild, given like 75% of the fandom had assumed these secrets anyways, but still nice to get them all. The Levi explanation was fascinating, but I don’t know what the fuck it has to do with the trial. Was it really a pointless aside? I don’t know…

The Arei scene was fucking insane even outside the Eden CG. Stabbed through the heart, haven’t felt that sad since Min’s death, and, yeah…

Not to mention, the fucking “Ideal Country Woman from LGI” looking ass frame. At least I finally got my answer; it was a wrist bend, not a glove. 

And David. David. Why are you like this. I genuinely can’t tell why he does anything anymore.

Finally, I love the Taylor mention, that’s insane. And Veronika has a darker secret? She really wants those MM allegations, huh? Jokes aside, I’m really curious about both those things. I kinda wonder if somehow the students will see the motive videos from Trial 1, since we’re hearing about Taylor and I’m hoping Alyssa later.

Just… Holy shit this episode was awesome. Cannot wait for next week.

First Impression Murder Theory Updates

It’s looking like Levi!Accomplice will end up being a nice AU and nothing more, although I’m not 100% ruling it out. That said, I’m still pretty confident in Eden!Culprit, especially with how we mentioned the tape on the spinny thing was easy to grip, but no one’s made the connection to the gym yet. 

The big thing to solve in the Arei case, then, is how Eden got the fish. There’s a few other accomplices she could have, but those are looking rough unless she somehow got Arei to do it. That said, I’m considering the possibility that she took the minnows ultra early, before Nico started feeding them. That would explain how they didn’t notice there were a few missing the night before; they just never counted the ones in the jugs in the first place. That has issues too, but I’ll see about it. 

That said, I’m pretty happy with myself! I got a lot of the major points of the pulley system right. The only thing is the “stopper rope vs tie a knot” thing, but the principle is similar enough. We’ll see about things like the ball of clothes to put the rope over the rafters. There’s still plenty of murder to discuss. 

As for the Ace case… It’ll need a full review later. If it’s supposed to be similar to Arei’s case, I really have no clue what the hell was happening there. Though I guess the ridiculous wire circuit I made might actually have some merit, given we're doing some kind of pulley?

... Maybe not :p

I have no further insight; I just need to look at it again.

Luffy takes you on adventures no matter how dangerous it is 🤪

Luffy really is trying to be thoughtful when he does things for you. He just ends up messing around and, well- messing things up! Like how he tried to bake you a cake in the middle of the night since Sanjiwould never let him in the day! 😊 (The kitchen almost burned down. Franky had to repair it 😬)

Luffy was banned from a number of things after that but he did make you a mud pie! He used to make them all the time when he was younger and he figured you’d like one! Here ya go! 😃👍

Luffy and you barely have and slow and relaxing moments but when you do it’s very comforting. Usually in the middle of the night during a rare occasion that Luffy ate enough so he doesn’t get up for snacks or adventure

but you get up, and you see how calm and peaceful he looks while sleeping. You lovingly observe his face for a bit before going back to sleep <3

Luffy always has to have you around when he eats. if your far away and he sees you, he pulls you close with his stretchy limbs. even if you are close he’ll basically have you in a literal choke hold as he balloons from overeating 😅😭

he burps, laughs, kisses you on the temple and keeps eating. In that order. 💕

Luffy will obv still eat if your not around but as soon as your in sight he’s pulling you over

It’s the best feeling ever to be surrounded by both food and YOU!! Double whammy! 🤪🙏

No one does queer representation quite like One Piece.

Allow me to explain in great detail.

I’m going to talk about the queer rep in Impel Down, and you’d best buckle up cause it’s rant time.

Impel Down is one of my favorite arcs because I love the story line, it’s downright hilarious, and Luffy’s struggle to rescue Ace is incredibly compelling.

But there is another reason why I love Impel Down so much, and that’s the queer rep that utterly knocked me off my feet.

Now, I’ve come to accept that queer representation in anime (not touching on any other media in this rant) is generally nonexistent or extremely rare… if you’re watching anything other than a BL.

On the rare occasion that we do find some LGBT rep it is usually extremely subtle, and shown exclusively in convoluted subtext and minuscule details that are easily overlooked. While this representation is so incredibly meaningful to everyone who’s able to pick it out, the subtly makes it all the more easy for homophobes to argue that it was never in the first place.

Keeping all this in mind, I finally picked up One Piece several months ago after refusing to watch it for a long-assed time (It was too long and I thought the art style was weird. Dear god have I eaten my words.) I’d heard on social media that One Piece was big on trans representation, but I wasn’t prepared at ALL for what I’d find in that department.

I had NOT expected to find One Piece’s treasure trove of LGBT characters in Impel Down of all pleases, and the shock factor made it so much better.

The arc had already been chaotic as fucking hell by the time Luffy reunited with Bon Clay, and their reunion made me tear up. Like dude!

I hadn’t been particularly attached to Bon Clay before but THIS ^ was it. This scene right here, he wormed his way into my heart istfg.

Can we appreciate this scene please?! The sparkles in the background?? The leg lifting?! The REUNION HUG?!?! I love this so dearly not just because it’s fucking ADORABLE but because of what it *says.*

Bon Clay is an outwardly queer character, and Luffy absolutely adores him. Those two are best friends and we treat queer people with respect and they are good people. We can be friends with them and allies with them and they aren’t something to shy away from just because they’re different.

Be fucking for real. The representation is so positive, and it never ceases to blow me away.

If you thought that this representation was enough YOU WERE WRONG because this BARELY SCRATCHED THE SURFACE.

Iva. Emperio Ivankov. The Queen of the Queers. He is a gender fluid ICON and a literal drag queen. His special attack is a wink that blows shit up. His Devil Fruit ability is quite literally hormone therapy.

Now, this is One Piece we’re talking about, so naturally characters are going to be wildly exaggerated but ARE YOU KIDDING

IVA’S ABILITY IS HORMONE THERAPY. HE CHANGES PEOPLE’S GENDER AS AN ATTACK. HIS POWER WORKS THROUGH SYRINGE NEEDLES THAT POP OUT FROM UNDER HIS ACRYLIC NAILS.

I love Iva so fucking much words cannot describe 😭

Oda didn’t just say “look, I made a queer character” he really said “fuck it, nuclear option it is.” It is literally impossible to ignore the fact that Iva is LGBT, and One Piece’s queer rep is SO IN YOUR FACE, especially in Impel Down. It’s impossible to ignore, which is the stark opposite from the usual business with “implied” queer characters in anime.

Implied? HAH.

There is a kingdom of gay people living INSIDE THE WALLS of the biggest prison in the world. They are led by a gender fluid drag queen and run a strip club bar in the middle of a fucking prison, where they drag new gays through the cracks in the walls to join them.

Dude.

I love One Piece so much.

All joking aside, the introduction of Iva and his kingdom of gays drove me to tears. Like deadass. The representation literally drove me to tears, I was sobbing.

Why? Because it was so positive.

Do you know how meaningful that is?

It made me fucking cry, man.

Iva’s speech introducing his gay kingdom, like goddamn. I can’t even remember exactly what he said because I was crying the whole time.

“We’re here and we’re queer.” That’s a quote from fucking One Piece, dude. I can’t, I can’t.

It wasn’t just the introduction of Iva’s kingdom or the LITERAL LESBIAN COUPLE SITTING AT THE BAR, it was the way the sense of community was presented.

We’re called the LGBTQ Community and I don’t know if Oda’s a member or not but HOT damn if he doesn’t know what it means to be a part of it.

I’m talking about the Luffy situation. He fought the Warden and got his ass handed to him. He was poisoned to all hell and about to die at 17 but Bon picked him up and carried him to Iva’s Kingdom. He’s wanted to meet Iva his whole life but by the time he did he was more worried about Luffy’s condition than anything else.

And then we find out that Luffy had insisted that Bon get medical treatment before he did. What a guy. When Iva got Luffy, he said that it was a lost cause to try and overcome the poison. But he was willing to give it a try anyway.

Let’s discuss.

Iva injected Luffy with hormones to help him beat the poison. Luffy underwent hormone therapy. (I will cling to this tidbit of information forever, YOU CANT TAKE IT FROM ME.) When Bon woke up, he demanded to see Luffy.

Iva warned him about what he would find, but brought Bon to Luffy at his request. When Bon found Luffy, he found his friend chained up and screaming in excruciating pain. We didn’t see Luffy in full at all during this time, but when Bon looked through the door he was horrified.

He got defensive. He started yelling at Iva, saying that the person inside that room was not the Luffy he knew.

Iva was firm, and told Bon that Luffy was going through a tough challenge, and he would be different afterwards, but he was still the same Luffy.

Do you see it? Can you read between the lines? This exchange made me sob all over again. Why? I urge you to think about it, to see the underlying message here.

Bon broke down into tears, realizing that Luffy was fighting for his life. He apologized and took back his harsh words.

Then he spent hours outside Luffy’s cell, screaming till his throat was raw and cheering him on. He couldn’t do anything to help Luffy, Luffy was fighting this battle on his own. But he could be there for him.

I ask you again, do you see it?

As the hours passed, others in Iva’s kingdom trickled out to see what Bon was doing. They told him to stop screaming, that it was useless. They mocked him, told him he was being a fool.

Then Iva stood up for him, and told them to see Bon for what he was doing. He couldn’t help Luffy, but he could cheer him on. He could be there for him.

Within moments, the entire kingdom was outside Luffy’s cell. Cheering him on. Encouraging him. Supporting him. They didn’t know who he was but they saw him fighting and immediately backed him up.

It isn’t just representation, merely the presence of a queer character or even an entire kingdom of gays that makes it meaningful. It’s how those characters are shown, how they behave.

Oda could have thrown in a queer character here and there and left it at that, but he went out of his way to show the incredible support system that this community provided. They jumped to Luffy’s aid. They were so supportive and cheered him on until he beat the poison. They fought alongside him… and you know what else?

When Luffy woke up, he accepted them in a heartbeat. He didn’t question anything, just saw a bunch of people and thought “huh. New friends!”

Oda’s representation is exaggerated as much as it is painstakingly accurate in nature and positive to a tee. Obviously it isn’t perfect. Iva and the squad were still mocked, called “freaks” and “weirdos.”

But it’s about Luffy. How Luffy behaves. How Luffy reacts. Even in the face of how the rest of society views Iva and his kingdom, Luffy sees them as friends and allies and doesn’t give a singular shit if they’re gay or not.

Luffy accepts everyone, and he doesn’t draw the line at queer people. The aroace king himself. You heard it here, Luffy is the ultimate ally.

Of course I’m not even scraping the surface on this topic and Oda’s representation is in no way perfect, but Impel Down remains the greatest example of queer rep that I’ve seen this far.

Warnings: allusion to suggestive situation, Tommy’s a little mopy in this one, but then again, when isn’t he?

(Y/N) takes the opportunity to tell Tommy what she thinks when she finds him still in bed.

“Is the world going to end?” (Y/N) questioned as she shut the bedroom door behind her and pulled the corners of her robe tighter around her body. She’d got up to check on the baby about an hour ago and thought for sure that Tommy would have trailed out right after; heading to lock himself in his office for the day. To see him still in bed was a surprise.

“Huh?” Tommy questioned her, not making much effort to look in her direction as he kept his hand rested on the pillow behind his head.

“You’re still in bed,” she pointed out as she walked over to him.

“And that’s a crime now?” he raised his eyebrows as he was finally able to look at her.

“For you it might as well be,” she teased him, cracking a grin, one that he didn’t return. “Is something on your mind?” Tommy furrowed his eyebrows as to ask the silent question: ‘what?’. “You’re brooding…I can see it in your face. The only difference is that you’re doing it in here instead of your office,” she pointed out, explaining the reasoning behind her first question. Tommy sighed and looked away from her, his fingers tapping away on his chest; another one of his mannerisms that showed he was consumed by thought. “Scoot over,” she mumbled to him then, not waiting for him to do much before she sat on the side of the bed so that she could be closer to him. “What’s going on in that mind of yours?”

Tommy sighed and stared at the ceiling for a few moments before glancing over at (Y/N) again. She was waiting expectantly for him to answer her question. “I’m just wondering where we all go next,” he began.

“Go next with what?” (Y/N) asked him to clarify.

“The business…the family…” he trailed off, scratching his eyebrow with his thumb, “they all hate me now.”

“I don’t think they hate you,” she disagreed with his statement.

“I’ve put them in prison, (Y/N),” he didn’t dare dance around the subject, “sure they hate me.”

“They hate what you’ve done,” she suggested another way to look at it, “they may hate you now…they won’t hate you forever.”

“There’s no way you can know that.”

“You’re right.”

“So why bother bringing it up?”

“Because I wanted to get your mind off of it…” (Y/N) slowed their conversation down as she trailed off and took a breath, “I know how you get when your mind gets stuck on something…you become a problem unto yourself, and you cannot go down now…not with the family being where they are,” she tried to speak some sense into him. “Why don’t you go visit them?”

“(Y/N)…” Tommy spoke in a warning tone, showing her how against the idea he was.

“They ask what you’re doing, you know,” she commented, “it almost always comes up when I’m there.”

“They’re probably wondering if I’ve still managed to keep going,” he mumbled, adding in his own thoughts on the matter.

“They may be…” she trailed off, feeling stuck in the arguement at this point. Tommy could argue like a child who wasn’t getting their way, and he wouldn’t quit until he did…it made her nervous for the future arguements she’d inevitably have with their son. “But they still ask about you…you’d probably benefit from going to see them,” she shrugged her shoulders, deciding to see the light in the situation.

“Can we stop talking about this, love?” he asked her, a pleading look present on his face as he dropped his hand onto her thigh and squeezed it gently.

“What do you want to talk about then, hmm?” she asked, raising her eyebrows at him. She didn’t ask her question in any sort of tone, instead she was curious. “Should we talk about the weather?” she continued, her words making Tommy’s eyebrows furrow.

The confusion became even more apparent when she moved from sitting next to him to straddling his waist, a grin forming on her face as she leaned in closer to him. “What’re you doin’, love?” he questioned her, his hands automatically moving to the sides of her hips to hold her in place.

“I was thinking maybe we could talk about how much…” she paused, her hands moving up to take hold of his jaw. She leaned down even further to brush her lips against his. He tried to follow her, but she was too quick, and his actions made her giggle. “I…” she stopped again, kissing his left cheek, “love…” she kissed his right cheek, “you…” she pressed a kiss to his nose, making him scrunch his face at the unfamiliar feeling, which made her giggle again. She pulled back to smile at him, feeling butteflies erupt in her stomach as his eyes danced across her face. “I love you, Tommy,” she repeated herself, dropping her lips onto his then for a proper kiss.

Tommy took the opportunity, tightening his hold on her as he deepened the kiss. (Y/N) giggled against his lips before she managed to pull away and slide to lay on the bed next to him. “I should go check on the baby again,” she said to him, grinning as she spoke.

“That’s all?” he questioned her, surprise etched into his features.

“Hmm?” she played innocent, her eyebrows raised.

“You can’t do all that and then go check the baby,” he told her.

“Well I have…I’m going to check the baby,” she stuck to her guns, smiling before going to get off of the bed.

“You’re not,” Tommy managed to grab her hand and bring her onto her back once more, “because I’ve now got something to talk to you about.”

A giddy feeling arose in (Y/N)’s stomach as she saw how Tommy was looking at her. She could tell by the smirk on his face that he wasn’t going to be doing much talking. At least she’d managed to get his mind off of things.

I’m convinced that the Seventh Doctor is one of the most powerful characters in all of fiction. Not “The Doctor” but the “Seventh Doctor” very specifically.

He’s incredibly funny conceptually and I cannot get over it. I’m baffled by his existence. He is walking proof that The Doctor doesn’t need to be always just some guy in a box. He has 4 main enemies and none of them are iconic Doctor Who villains. His greatest foes are his own intellect, the literal embodiment of evil, an abstract bounty hunter that has reality warping powers and Thatcherism. Does he fear a God? One of his schemes against a great enemy involves weaponising RPF fanfiction and I’m being completely serious. Every Doctor references 4’s speech in Genesis Of The Daleks while pretending this little man doesn’t exist. I guarantee that if he was in Midnight, the episode ends in 10 minutes. He has either tricked the entity into combustion or has instructed Ace and Hex to batter it to death with baseball bats. The episode runs at full length only if he gets bored but instead ends with a full doxxing of its identity.

I’m not a powerscaler, but if I were, this man would not be on the fucking scale. Do you really think that most anime characters would clock him as the main threat? He’s playing the fucking spoons and tottering around, he has misdirected everyone so hard that people are just forgetting that he still hasn’t explained (I’m only at Death In The Family) why the fuck the TARDIS is in a different colour. Even if let’s say, he’s bisected by Sukuna or obliterated by Saitama, he will come back. Somehow, SOMEHOW, be it one hour or literal decades, he would have resurrected and would giggle and completely wipe your existence from History. Warping reality cannot save you, he has already won. Keep in mind that the only reason that he actually died and regenerated was because he got super unlucky, that even after getting pelted by bullets BY ACCIDENT that what took him out was a fucking defribrillator BY ACCIDENT and also somewhat BY MEDICAL NEGLIGENCE. Nobody is doing is doing it like him. As I type this, I literally cannot think of a way that my favourite characters could actually kill him permanently. Like what do you do if you see him? Why does he just…know things other Doctors don’t? What even is he?

A Parody Of A Parody (Any Sport In A Storm)

One of the foundational parts of The Owl House is that someone looked at a magical otherworld story and thought “what would I do in that situation?”.

As a result, you get Luz, someone who is creative to the point of breaking the plot, who understands the mechanics of stories so well that she can call things out before they happen. Someone for whom the realisation that its ok to be unique and stray from the path comes easily. Luz doesn’t resist the story at all, she embraces it with open arms.

She is, in that way, a parody of certain other characters, most specifically Monkey D Luffy. She actively seeks adventure because it’s fun to her rather being obligated by revenge or duty or a desire to protect those she cares about. She has that range, but it’s not her core motivation. She’s heroic, but she’s not coming at it from a particularly stand out motivation. She’s just kind, and that leads her to being the hero.

So, what happens if we reshuffle our hands and play with something new. What if we had someone else go on the same journey as Luz, in their own way? Someone else parodying her.

Then you get Hunter, and Any Sport In A Storm.

Let me explain.

SPOILERS AHEAD (The Owl House, One Piece, Lord Of The Rings)

Monkey D Luffy is a good person naturally. That’s why he will topple governments and fight gods. But fundamentally, his motivation is selfish. He wants to be happy and free. I’m not saying that’s villainous; I’m saying its amoral. You apply it in context.

Case and point, a key villain of the story, Blackbeard, has the exact same motivation. The difference being that Blackbeard has no care for anyone’s life except his own, and Luffy cares deeply about everyone else; his personal happiness cannot coexist with letting people get hurt. The character is kind, the motivation is not. Kindness is a characteristic not a goal.

Luffy’s and Blackbeard’s motivations both lead them to Impel Down, but Blackbeard’s character caused the Ace’s death, while Luffy’s made Ace’s life meaningful. Motivation is a big part of who a person is, but it’s far from the whole picture.

It’s almost as if people are inherently complex. I wonder if that’s important to the series’ theming.

"You're very good at doing exactly what you're told" accompanying a symmetrical shot with Hunter in front of an empty throne room that is too big for him to fill. I wonder if there's any symbolism there.

Hunter is not Blackbeard. He’s not a villain, most importantly. This is why he doesn’t actually get redeemed, he just switches sides, but that’s an argument for another day. He’s also doesn’t share a motivation with Luz.

Except he does, except he doesn’t. It’s complicated, and this gets granular.

Ok, the symbolism behind this. Hunter doesn't have the practical skills required for anything beyond following orders. He can read and learn, but that came from his need to read instructions. When it comes to putting something together, he will try, but he is in way over his head. This is part of the episode's setup, establishing the conflict to come. Here, that is being reshuffled. Hunter can do heroic stuff, it's the mundanity that's a problem for him.

Luz seeks to be accepted; Hunter wants to fit in. These are both facets of a desire for belonging, but their differences are more important. You could argue that they are effectively the same, but that restricts everyone into about three categories, those seeking belonging, safety, or comfort. The Owl House is fundamentally opposed to categorisation in this way, and the point of these two protagonists is that the two things are not equivalent.

This episode highlights that, showing how two similar characters react in wildly different ways.

It's not important, but the fact that the Crow Phone line is like torn paper makes me smile. It's a medieval aesthetic take on a modern visual.

Most notably is in their personalities. Because while their aims are similar, these two characters are opposites. Hunter isn’t curious, he’s wary. Hunter is constantly strategizing, paranoid that something might hurt him, Luz has zero impulse control at the best of times. Also, Hunter actively resists the plot at every turn.

The brave new world in this case is the opposite of Luz’s in a way. Where Luz went from mundanity to adventure, Hunter has gone from questing for the emperor to school drama.

The lessons here become the same as those that Luz learns day one. It’s ok to be different. Hunter just has a hard time learning that because he isn’t willing to look past what he thinks he already knows yet. He has blind spots, and he isn’t willing to examine them.

A good example of this is the contrast between the details that terrify our protagonists. I can’t exactly point at “everything”, so something specific. Luz freaks out when Eda loses her head the first time, Hunter barely flinches at Bellos’ transformation. Instead, Hunter is terrified by someone saying that they want to change the system.

The question then becomes: how do you get someone this resistant to change to undergo character development? Incongruity. Make his motivation clash with his blind spot and force him to operate in that unknown territory.

Hunter gets told to recruit the best and brightest, and to do that, he has to get unconventional. He has to learn that greatness comes in many forms, and if there was that useful piece of information to be found, what else could be hidden in places he has avoided looking?

At the moment, we’re setting up for bigger things down the road, and to do that, we need to get Hunter ready to accept some big changes.

So, we bring him into direct conflict with an authority figure, twice. We give him a support group that encourages him to think differently. We give him a way of using his skills that isn’t as a tool.

But more importantly, we mess with his idea of what people do and don't deserve.

"Where I come from, even chances have to be earned."

That's a pretty fundamental part of Hunter's character. He says the word "earn" so many times in this episode alone that it becomes a mantra. He believes you have to work to receive basic human decency. Willow shows him that that's not the case, and that he can chose to open himself up, if he wants. The emperor's way is not the only way.

He doesn’t pick any of these options yet, but we’re widening the scope of his character, letting him know that those other options are available. We’re setting up a Chekhov’s gun in the form of the power of friendship.

On the note of skills, has anyone else noticed that if it wasn’t for Willow, Hunter would unquestionably be the team powerhouse? Like, Luz is creative, she can take down stronger foes than herself through tricks and clever uses of magic. She’s not overtly powerful, she’s clever. Gus is similarly an illusionist; he can’t directly stand against anyone. Hunter, without magic, and with a new staff that he doesn’t understand, can hold Amity to a standstill.

Eclipse Lake was, so far, Hunter’s worst day, and he was still a physical and tactical threat. Which is why he’s not the main character.

The Owl House is heavily inspired by One Piece, but it throws in references to a ton of different anime, mostly shonen, and part of that is the power system. A core tenet of shonen is that raw power isn’t everything, and clever tactics can often lead to a victory despite that. Luz is the underdog, outclassed in raw magical talent, and yet she succeeds with tactics. Hunter is outclassed in natural magic, yes, but he punches far above his weight class with martial talent to make up for it. He’s a knight, an epic fantasy archetype.

Luz, with her grand dealings and evil emperor shenaniganry, is a shonen protagonist in an epic fantasy story. Hunter, with his discovery of the power of friendship and school drama, is an epic fantasy protagonist superimposed into a shonen story.

But epic fantasy is built on a dynamic with power in a different, hierarchical way. Lord Of The Rings has a reputation for a view on monarchy that I don’t think it actually features.

Tolkien definitely had some ideas that later audiences will find iffy, but his view on leadership was pretty iron clad. A king in Lord Of The Rings is a servant of the people, and those who use the people to serve them are portrayed as villainous. The people come first.

Even Aragorn’s destiny as the one true king isn’t characterised as accepting power, it’s accepting a duty to protect. In Lord Of The Rings, there is an idea of the good king, and he doesn’t have wealth or a kingdom. He has a sword.

Which, yeah, Tolkien was a soldier in WWI. And a soldier believing that a leader’s duty is to protect those under him isn’t that hard to believe.

Later authors have focused on the idea of real-world monarchy being inherently unjust, which I can’t say I disagree with, but the aesthetics of Tolkien have remained in epic fantasy. Knights loyal to kings, etc.

Which brings us to Bellos, and we see The Owl House’s view on unwavering loyalty. This is a series about understanding and engaging with the world around you. Hunter is loyal uncritically, which puts him as an antagonist in the series so far.

We’ll see how that goes for him.

Final Thoughts

The side plot of this episode isn’t really plot relevant. It’s another dead end. But its thematically quite interesting.

Luz and Amity go seeking someone who has paved their way before them and find out that it was a lie. They’ll have to make it up as they go, just like everyone else. But they take comfort in doing that together. They write their own stories.

But also, the Hexside crew other than the main five got a ton of characterisation here. Bosha got moved past, and Viney and Scara are finally in the same place at the same time, which means shipping.

I have speculations about a possible season three, and what I would like to see explored, and part of that would be a spiral from Bosha while Skarney becomes an actual thing. I think those three would make a phenomenal trio to base that series around while the actual protagonists are in the human realm. It would be about what happens when the characters with actual plot armour aren’t here, and the story needs to progress anyway. Essentially, the first scene in For The Future expanded. Throw in Mattholomule and the Blight Twins, and you have a story begging to go haywire.

Why are you agaisnt the rights of nonbinary people? I feel like I have a lot in common with radfems when it comes to experiences, but because my soul isn't female you consider me evil? Or wrong? I literally cannot help the fact that I'm enby. Being genderless isn't even something I fully did myself, it's my experiences with the gods that lead me to where I am. I can't experience gender the same way an ace person cant experience sexual attraction. I know that you understand misogyny and how it hurts people as a system, why don't you understand that it's hurting trans people too? I've had bad experiences with men, I've had gender roles forced upon me, I've been hurt by these systems. The exact people who you attack are victims of the same system as you, when you attack trans people, afab or amab, you're using the language of the patriarchy. I understand how things can be scary when you don't understand them, but I think you'd be happier if you started accepting trans people, mabye you'd even find that you aren't cis.

I don’t consider you evil. I never consider a trans person evil just because they are trans.

I don’t believe in gender. I think it’s a completely made up and bullshit concept which was originally made because people didn’t like using the word ‘sex’ combined with misogyny which has said that women inherently like certain things (wearing skirts, the colour pink, etc) and are better at certain things (housework, etc) in order to push the narrative that we are ‘different but equal’ and continue to discriminate against women on this basis. You say that your soul is genderless but how am I supposed to believe that someone’s soul can have a certain gender when I don’t believe in the concept of a soul in the first place? You say that your gods have lead you to where you are, but how am I supposed to believe that the gods will determine/guide people to their gender when I don’t believe in any gods?

Gender roles shouldn’t be forced upon anyone. Everyone should be free to enjoy what they want. Everyone should be free to pursue the passions that they want. I just don’t think that doing certain things means that you’re actually genderless or a man or a woman. I think you’re a man or a woman based on what sex you are and that’s it. To this day, I have yet to hear a definition of man or woman which contains no reference to biological sex, isn’t circular (ie a woman is someone who identifies as a woman), doesn’t contain any stereotypes (including references to being ‘culturally a woman), isn’t described as ‘a feeling’, and isn’t based on brain sex.

Some people struggle to be the sex that they are and want to change it and hate themselves/their body because they can’t. I recognise that. It sucks to hate your body so much and struggle so much, but I don’t think that makes you a different gender. That makes you someone suffering with a severe mental health problems who needs help in order to cope with the hatred/discomfort you have for/with yourself.

I have tried to explain as best and simply as I can in only a couple of paragraphs, even though there is a lot more nuance to be had about a very complex issue. I would be happy to explain further if you genuinely want to understand my views, regardless of if you agree with them or not. However, if you continue to say things like I just find it all scary, that I’m supporting the patriarchy, and that I’d simply be happier blindly following your views then I have no interest in continuing this conversation.

It was supposed to be both of your day off but when he is called into work you are bored at home all alone and have nothing to do. Looking at your phone nothing else to do. You began to text them with randomly naughty things and it wasn’t just one thing it was multiple things. The vibrations from their phone keep going off when seeing the rather suggestive texts you had them turned on. All day he had been waiting to get home. Hearing their car pull up to the driveway and opening the door to the front of the house. Greeting them you could see the lustful look in his eyes, literally following you all over the house you weren’t going to get away too easily from him “babe, let me explain.” you try to contain your laughter.

Law

Law eyes focused solely on you. Any explanation you tried to give to him he shook his head no way you were getting out of it. He kept his composure and professionalism while at work and in the back of his mind he wanted to pin you against the bed and do the things you wanted him to do in the texts. He starts to creep in closer just like a leopard with its prey.   “_____ you shouldn’t have sent those texts ya. Now you have to deal with your actions.”  His hands are trapping you against the wall. 

Ace

You were standing and in between, you and Ace was the couch.   Ace took off his shirt tossing it to the side his hands were on the back of the couch as he leaned in. You could see the devilish grin on his face. You tried to move to one side and he followed. When he opened his phone his face grew completely red and his mind began to fill with dirty things. He could see you giggling saying it was a joke. A joke that turned him on. “No no  ______, you wanted me to do all those things to you and I’m just going to fulfill those requests.” Ace jumped over the couch walking over to you as he threw you over his shoulders making his way to your guy's bedroom. 

Mihawk

His hands were crossed against his chest, his gold orbs focused on you. No matter how much you tried to explain yourself to Mihawk, he rejected the excuses of trying to get out of now. You cannot lie, it excited you to see his cool demeanor but knowing what his thoughts could be were a bit more explicit. “Come.” as if he almost ordered you, as you followed his hand tilting your chin up at him. “You promised to behave while I was away and you broke the rules…” he spoke in a cool tone. “Those mere texts are rather basic. I have much better ideas than those.” knowing his closet was filled with toys he had collected.

Marco

He removed his glasses, placing them on the stand nearby.  His hands pressed against the kitchen island. You had your back against the kitchen sink. You could hear a low chuckle coming from him. He was a bit annoyed going to work but when he got those texts he wanted the day to be over quickly. “No need to be all bashful now yoi.” he began walking around the counter “Let's try out those things you wanted me to do to you on the texts.” As he made his way towards you he lifted you onto the counter his lazy grin appeared on his face.

Kidd

The man had been flustered and you were not going to get away with it for those texts. He literally chased you around the house as you were trying to justify your actions of texting him those suggestive things. What made it worse is that his friend Killer saw what you texted him by accident when Kidd was driving and his phone went off so he asked the killer to read them. Kidd almost wrecked and when he stopped and read all the messages you were on his mind. Flaring his nostrils. Closing the door to your room you were able to lock it but trying to hold you laughed when he shouted what had happened. “Babe wait till I get in there! Remember I have all the keys to every door in this house.” you began to hear his key jiggling ‘crap’.

Shanks

Seeing the cocky grin of the hair haired man in front of you. You could see him biting his lower lip as he smoothly walked up to you. Loosening the few buttons on his shirt. He began to recite the text message from memory that you sent him. “You were very naughty sending those texts to me while at work.” he had his hands on his hips looking down at you. “Well I will give you the option we can do everything in here or the comfort of our room? You have 0.3 seconds to decide.”  before you could respond “too late I guess we are doing it here~~” 

Hongo

He made sure his hair was up because he knew as soon as he stepped through the door you were his target. He focused really hard at work and made sure his mind didn’t get the best of him. Now seeing you all he wanted to hear was you screaming his name. “It is my duty to take care of all my patients and show them compassion. He had you against the couch and the pillow on the couch fell to the floor. You could feel his erection against your leg. “I guess you need a bit extra  love and fucking now don’t you?.” giving you a cocky grin.

What are your thoughts on the most recent Despair Time episode? Especially when compared to Mod Bubbles?

Yeah sorry about that, I’ve been pretty busy this week and also tired from work so I didn’t get the time to do this properly. And I was also waiting for the thumbnail to come out like for this episode, but it’s just the generic deadly life picture like in the previous episode; possibly indicating that there’s no new CG in the up coming episode. Alright so let’s get this started!

Anyways, we start off by confirming that yes, Levi’s secret is that he is a killer. And a pretty ruthless one at that too. As well as the fact that he seems to have AntiSocial Personality Disorder. Which would explain some scenes with him earlier on in the episodes last week; constantly wondering and worrying if he’s acting the right way around others. And as for his killings….he seems to not care…

The cast reacted accordingly, finding it peculiar that Levi not only killed multiple people, but one of which was his father. And he just seems to not….care. But that’s what it is to him. He couldn’t care less. Not because he doesn’t care about the consequences, he quite literally cannot comprehend the empathy about it. As well as him listing down his other various crimes like blowing up a car seems to suggest this is just…an average day for him. Which brings us to Ace…

Oh my goodness, the AceVi shippers are in shambles. Someone check on them.

Despite Ace feeling rightfully hurt that Levi has threatened to take his life at the last class trial, and once more here, he still thought as Levi as a friend. Levi constantly checked on him to make sure he was okay, and even helped in treating Ace when his neck was bleeding. And in the end, Levi admitted he wouldn’t care if Ace died. Ouch.

On top of that, it seems like Ace has his own share of grief and heartache from a past friendship. The trauma thickens…

Anyway, after that we finally get all the secrets!

Yaaaaaaaay! Finally, after so long and theorizing! It’s finally revealed for the world to see!

Anyway, one more thing of more here is Arei and David. David reveals what happened that night with the two of them, to no one but the audience mind you, and it’s….kinda sweet.

Arei has been trying to change and trying to be this idea of a “good person” is. And now that she’s knows David’s secret, she doesn’t feel the need to beat herself over it because she can still change…just not a the quickest pace she thinks it is. And that’s okay.

No one is entirely good or bad. The black and white morality system that society has placed into others is outdated. It’s a matter of perspective. Every person is hiding some skeletons in their closet, some huge black tar of a stain on their life that they try their best to cover up and avoid. Many of you will recall earlier this year, I dealt learning something similar. And while I’m not going to dwell on that dark part of my life anymore. This idea of shape you have of others and sometimes reflect on yourself…it doesn’t exist, it never did. And trying to convince yourself that it does is only going to hurt more.

Here…Arei is coming to terms with the things she’s done and not regretting it because she can still change in the end. It’s not too late for anybody. She’s no longer going to beat herself over it or condemn herself for it…and that’s fine.

Carousel to take some long rope to it and tie up Arei’s neck with it so it breaks when they want it to. I’m a little confused on the logistics of these things but like I said, I’m dumb as fuck. And it also just is quite scary how some fangan writers can be what their murder methods…Yeesh.

Agent Yami [闇 (やみ)], a.k.a. MC/Yuu Kiritani is the cousin of Agent Yoru, The Riftwalker.

They got in contact with Radianite when they also were checking in the infamous Icebox, promptly getting affected by its properties and developed similar abilities like their cool older cousin.

You can say the training was painful.

Agent!MC/Yuu: *Dejects through one of their rifts and lands on Yoru* Ryo?! Are you okay?

Yoru: *Groans* I’m good. Fix your landing.

Agent!MC/Yuu: Sorry. I’ll get it better.

With enough timing and practice, they’re ready for missions.

Having two Riftwalkers would be beneficial for every mission.

Sometimes they compete each other on who gets the highest kill count.

During another training session, they wanted to test the limits to their riftwalking powers, but Yoru warned them the consequences of misusing their abilities.

Did they listen? No.

Did they leave a note for their cousin explaining about “breaking limits”? Yes.

As they were traveling through rifts and the darkness, they continued further ahead.

Agent Yami somehow ended up in a castle after dark.

They take off their mask and become cautious as this is unfamiliar territory.

Agent Yami pulls out their firearm, ready to shoot possible enemies.

Just as they were about to sneak out, they were spotted by Headmaster Crowley.

Crowley: Excuse me? Students are prohibited to be in this area.

Agent!MC/Yuu: くそ [Kuso].

Crowley: Hm?

Agent Yami flash-bangs in front of Crowley, temporarily blinding him.

Crowley: My eyes!

They knock him over and start running away from the scene.

While they ran, Agent Yami trips over what seems to be a huge furry monster.

Agent!MC/Yuu: Fuck. How did I trip over a cat?

Grim: Who are you callin’ a cat?! I’m Grim the Great!

Agent!MC/Yuu: …It talks. I’m leaving. *Rips open a rift*

Grim: Nyah?! Wait! *Grabs onto them*

Crowley: *Finds the two* Seize your running!

The two ran off again and Agent Yami tucks Grim in their leather coat.

The young agent pulls out their mask, immediately wears it, then rips open another rift and jumps through.

Both of them ended up in the Mirror Chamber where the dorm-sorting ceremony takes place like in the Prologue.

Everyone was looking at the newcomer, with confusion.

Can we all agree upon the definition of gatekeeping real quick?

My definition: Gatekeeping is when you claim you are able to talk on a subject or like a subject, but others can’t because they aren’t as “good” as you or as “passionate” in that subject. An example is saying: “I’ve been in the fandom since Book 1, therefor I have more ability to talk on the series than those just joining the fandom.” Or “You can’t kin that character because you don’t share this exact trait with them!”

Google definition: the activity of controlling, and usually limiting, general access to something. AKA: “I’m not letting you into this groupchat because you joined the fandom later than me” or “You aren’t allowed to be excited for the spin-off series because I’ve been excited for longer than you.”

We can all agree on this, right?

So let me use some current fandom examples (at least in my little circle of things which is literally just whatever my boyfriend posts)

Ace Kanej!! And specifically the posts surrounding it.

Not Gatekeeping: Giving thoughts and opinions on how Kanej can be treated in the fandom, as well as offering headcanons such as ace Kanej. This can also include saying how you wish Kanej is treated differently and compelling people to take it from a different perspective.

As this is not telling people what they can and cannot ship, it’s not gatekeeping. As this is sharing one’s personal thoughts, it’s not gatekeeping. As nowhere in the post it was said, “Only I’m allowed to talk on this, and everyone who doesn’t agree isn’t able to talk on this!” it’s not gatekeeping.

Gatekeeping: Telling people they can’t share those thoughts or post about it, due to not being the same opinion as theirs. Trying to control what people can and cannot post about Kanej— but only when it disagrees with them.

For those who knows the context:

Kassel’s post is not gatekeeping Kanej, as ze was just explaining how Kanej can be good representation for those that hardly has any at all. Explaining why ze doesn’t like Kanej being overly sexualized, as well as trying to implore others to think deeper about it. Ze was explaining how Kanej can thrive being more than just a ship based around physical intimacy and touch, and instead have a strong emotional bond that many people skip over.

Nowhere in that post did ze say, “Only I’m allowed to talk on Kanej for these reasons,” or, “I’ve been in the fandom longer so therefor I am right and you can’t talk on this.”

In fact, knowing zir, ze will actively respond to those disagreeing with zir and have active debates filled with facts and opinions alike. That’s why you see zir responding to those who have rushed to deny ace Kanej or tell zir that ze has the wrong thoughts and opinions on Kanej. Ze will respond to those claiming ze is gatekeeping with genuine questions to understand where those disagreeing are coming from, and will open room to explain zir point.

That’s not gatekeeping.

It’s somebody having valid thoughts and opinions about a ship and how the fandom handles the ship. Immediately rushing to claim that this is gatekeeping is blatantly wrong and just a way to point fingers at an opinion you disagree with.

Sort of unrelated to the gatekeeping point but not to the Kanej post…

The amount of genuine acephobia in the comments of that post really says a lot about this specific side of the fandom and it’s disgusting.

You don’t need a sexual aspect of a relationship for it to be an amazing relationship.

hello! i’m one of the readers of fish in the sea. sad to see it’s being discontinued. did you and the other writer have any outline for how you wanted it to go? would you be okay with someone completing it after it’s been orphaned?

Hi! I'm sorry we never got to finish it before things went south, but I think that's the nature of fanfic sometimes. An open-ended thing that you have to decide the ending for yourself.

HOWEVER there was a very rough outline for the story.

This is Basically what we had in mind:

Reader was going to get tangled up in a cuddle puddle with the three guys. Wakes up at some point, tries to get out because they're sleeping, but Azul's suckers are like glued to them. Floyd would scare the shit out of Reader, but then explains how to coax the tentacles of. Reader would be panicky about him being awake, for obvious reasons lmao. Floyd would turn on the rizz and be like "Actually let's go for a little trip!" and would "sneak" them out of the cave. They'd need to drink another potion, but they'd fight it. Not sure what we meant but REVERSE CPR TERRIBLE is bolded in the doc so whatever that means! They go outside and swim around with Floyd being a charming little creep showing them cool ocean stuff like reefs and fish and whatever. I wrote "HOLDING HIS HAND GIGGLES." Truly something I should have written purely for myself. They'd meet a whale by the end of the chapter and they swim up to. However, the whale would have put its fin between Reader and Floyd, like warning Reader that yeah he might be charming for this little outing but even this creature recognizes he's a dangerous predator. Floyd would be >:[ about it and go "Gotta get back before the other two realize we sneaked out :>"

Basically following that plot line Floyd would be the most physical out of the three, but also the one who gives Reader the most freedom. They would have a very intense relationship.

We had a couple of Jade scenes planned too. Mostly along the lines of him being the "answers" of the group. In a very manipulative way. We planned on him being the indoctrination part of the process. The relationship with Reader was going to be very, hm, "Poor thing, come here I'll make it better" while making it much, much worse.

For Azul he was planned to be the golden cage trope. Reader was going to be his precious doll who adored him. Whatever they wanted (within reason of course, there are thing's Azul cannot provide — like letting them leave) he would have gotten it for them. This would backfire because then Azul would be making demands, citing everything he's done for them.

The midpoint of the story was going to be dramatic and full of action/consequence. Reader was going to use the flare gun. Which would have been seen by Jack and Ace, and under Azul's watch they were going to escape. Like get out and almost be found escape. Jack would have just seen them in the water on the horizon before they were jerked underwater and nearly drowned for yet another time to go back to the cave. At that point the trio would have decided to force Reader to become a mermaid. They had originally planned for it to be a consensual thing. It was going to be heavy on body horror/pain as the potion needed time to make and the boys rushed it for a punishment.

We didn't have a whole lot between then and the ending, actually. Just more scenes of Reader slowly losing their will to fight and accepting the role the trio wanted them to fulfill.

The ending was never officially written anywhere, but we had discussed it at length. Reader was eventually going to learn/read how to make another potion to turn them back to human. They'd escape, swim as far as they could before taking it. It would be as bad, if not worse, as the one that turned them into a mermaid. They'd be found and taken to a hospital. There would be some time passing while they healed/were questioned about their disappearnce. Ace and Jack were going to be contacted. However we were going to have a "mysterious visitor" come visit Reader in the hospital. It was going to be Jade, in his human form, telling Reader, "There you are, poor thing. It's time to come home."

ADDITIONALLY, we were going to do books for the majority of characters in the series! They were going to be stand-alones, but with easter eggs and mentions of the previous/other books. Like Jack and Ace would be interviewed by a Reader of another book, I think Malleus', and Jack would talk about seeing his Reader in the water that last time. Something like "They think I was hallucinating. I hadn't been sleeping well during the time and all. I took their loss hard, I guess. But I'm certain of what I saw. I heard them scream for help." And how they got the false lead from the hospital and all that.

As for you're other question, absolutely! Take the story and run like the wind however you wanna take it. I'm glad you enjoyed the story for what it was and that it's inspired you to want to write. Have fun with it!

Honestly, i am very uninterested in strict definitions. Instead of making things overly complicated by trying to define exactly what it means to me, I have oversimplified. Asexuality is non or very little sexual attraction.

I don't see the need for making it any more complicated than that because I generally don't bother to explain myself or my sexuality to other people. I do so on this website purely because I've seen a lot of my fellow ace people, such as yourself, struggling especially in the wake of the acephobic wave that hit tumblr a few years back.

If you want to know about my personal experience trying to figure out what the fuck sexual attraction even is. I'm gonna be real, idek.

I have never in my life seen another person's physical body and thought, "yeah, that arouses me. I'd like to have sex with them".

In all reality i think sex might be a fun activity in the way that like smoking weed is a fun activity. It's stimulating to the senses and the hormones within my body. But that's it. I came to the conclusion that I am ace in part because it is very hard for me to conceptualize sex.

I either find myself thinking of it selfishly as a way for my own orgasms to be achieved. Or conversely as a way to do that for someone else. I have to center one person as the focus of sex when i think about it. Either i am getting or they are. The idea of sex as an activity that two people are engaging in together for intimacy is foreign to me. It seems more like a service being performed. Which i have come to realize is a very cold and sterile way of viewing it.

Even in the most romantic way of viewing it i still see it as just another act of service. I might bring someone pleasure in the same way I might make them coffee before they wakeup. Or cook for them. Or run an errand. Or buy them a gift. It's showing affection but the way i view it seems to be surface level to the way that others do.

I say that I am neutral to the topic of sex because I honestly don't care about it half as much as everyone else seems to. It's just a tool.

And because i don't experience attraction to people i don't experience the tolerance to them and the side effects of sex that other people do. There are no rose colored glasses. I don't like excessive bodily fluids. spit and sexual fluid doesn't become less gross. genitals don't become less weird. the concept of sticking your genitals together for stimulation doesn't become less bizarre. Some allosexual people talk about experiences where they're "brought out of it" or "icked out" basically turned off and suddenly bothered by the sexual process. Well I am never turned on by my partner and therefore am always kinda there.

Which isn't to say I can't enjoy sex. it's just that engaging with another person has so many caveats, and stipulations, and downsides that i find myself very unmotivated to engage with it.

I don't like that sex drive really just means libido, because I have plenty of libido, but I have basically no drive to actually engage in sex. I want to cum. end of story. Everything that gets in the way of that is just a complication.

And of course I feel like such a douche whenever I think something like that. Because it legitimately sounds like dialogue from a narcissistic male lady harassing character in a 90s sitcom.

which is why generally I just avoid it all together. There is something more to sex that a lot of people are looking for, a kind of connection , intimacy, and validation that I cannot provide them.

Whatever it is, I don't have it.

(The tone of this is very frustrated, which honestly, with this topic, currently, I am. But i don't mean to be discouraging. Your experience can be and probably is different from mine. And if it's not...at least we're in this boat together.)
