PRECIOUS THINGS - Kazuha, Itto, Heizou, Kokomi & reader
i. SUMMARY: What kind of things would they give as a gift? ii. CONTENT WARNINGS: None! iii. NOTES: Can be read as platonic or romantic, fluff, gn!reader, 0.7k words. iv. A/N: it's actually my birthday soon! this was a little early present for myself hehe. i hope you enjoy!
Tumblr media
KAZUHA
Kazuha doesn’t care much for material things. He’s a vagrant, there’s no room for too many unnecessary belongings when one is travelling with the wind. Sentimentality only slows him down.
Because of that, he keeps his gifts limited to something intangible. He’ll take you out for the day, show you the most peaceful places of Inazuma and bring you down to the beach to watch the sunset.
As the sun dips low in the sky, he'll let you rest your head against his shoulder or in his lap if you're tired. But make sure you don’t fall asleep too quickly, or you’ll miss the beautiful view.
If Beidou allows it, you might even be treated to a stay on the Alcor, where Kazuha will help you up into the crow’s nest so you can observe the sea from the sky.
Perhaps the most precious thing he gives you is a haiku, written just for you. He’ll recite it while you’re relaxing on the ship, spinning words as elegantly as the waves flowing below you.
“Did you enjoy it? Well, perhaps we’ll have to spend some more time together when the winds lead us to each other again.”
ITTO
Ah, Itto.
Itto is the king of making your birthday a big deal.
The Arataki Gang will make sure to wake you up at the crack of dawn to start the celebrations early. First comes a homemade (and… debatably edible) cake, followed by an off-key singing of Happy Birthday with some beatboxing from Itto to accompany the song.
Then, once Itto has shooed the rest of the gang away to ‘let you have some peace and quiet’ he’ll present you with the gifts he’s picked out.
It’s all things he is interested in—onikabutos, trading cards. There’s nothing Itto loves more than sharing the things he’s fond of with the people he’s fond of, so he worked hard to find the finest of those things. You deserve the best, so that’s exactly what he’ll give you.
“Heh, good birthday, huh? Well of course it is, I couldn’t just leave my favourite honorary gang member without a proper celebration, could I?”
HEIZOU
Heizou! Heizou loves to share his interests with you, one of which being riddles and brainteasers.
On your birthday, he’ll present you with a locked box, covered in various puzzles. Once solved, the inside reveals a riddle that leads to a mysterious location tucked away in one of the chilly corners of Inazuma.
He’ll be waiting for you there, sitting cross-legged on the corner of a picnic blanket. Draped across is an arrangement of foods, a mix of both your favourites. Fried radish balls, Sakura tempura, and Taiyaki are some of his selections, but there is of course a variety of food picked out for you too.
Heizou has a gift as well, something that is exactly what you wanted. You never needed to tell him what it was—as Inazuma’s finest detective, he already figured it out.
“So, partner? Would you say your birthday lived up to your expectations?
KOKOMI
Kokomi wants your present to be perfect. You’re special to her, and special people deserve the best gifts.
Giving gifts is one of her favourite ways to show the people in her life that she loves them, so it must be something personal and related to you specifically; she doesn’t allow for half-thought out presents!
If you’re a fan of books, she’ll gift you a copy of The Legend of The Sword—her favourite book—and shyly ask for your opinion on it.
She will also make time in her schedule to spend time together, which is a gift in itself. She puts her work over everything, so for something else to become a priority is a rare sight.
During the day she’ll take you everywhere: across the scenic beaches of Watatsumi, diving in the depths of the ocean, before finally retreating back to her home to give you a homemade cake. The entire day is planned out (as expected of a grand strategist) and rest assured, she’ll make sure not a moment is wasted.
“So, did you have a good day? I hope so—happy birthday, (Name)!”

Youve been such a good girl mommy
contents : fem!reader, drabble, nipple sucking, mommy kink, sub reader though, mommy sub
trying something new so it’s super short😖
Tumblr media
18+ Minors Do NOT interact
Kazuha fondled the soft tits before him, squeezing and pinching, eyes in a lust-filled haze. He let go of the nipple in is mouth with a soft ‘pop.’ His gentle panting brought a chill up ______’s spine. Kazuha’d finally let go of the abused nipple he’d been sucking on for what felt like forever. A string of thick spit still attached him to the bud that hardened from the cool air.
______ whimpered under his touch and squirmed, back arching into her partner. “Please…”
“Relax, Mommy. I’ll take good care of you,” Kazuha chuckles, teeth grazing against her skin. He pulled back a bit to marvel at her breasts and his handiwork. Littered across the swollen breasts were hickeys and bite marks; some were old and some were brand new.
He smirked before capturing his girlfriend’s lips with his own. Kazuha groaned into the kiss, ripping a guttural moan from ______ herself. He knew how needy she’d gotten. Just a bit of kissing and she often times felt all hot and bothered - especially when Kazuha took charger like this. It wasn’t often that in the middle of the day, her favorite stowaway took her so aggressively.
He had her back pinned to the cozy cot bed that Beidou graciously gave him to rest on upon her ship. Kazuha’d only yanked ______’s top above her chest for easy access to her tits while she remained fully clothes, much to her dismay. Kazuha’s knee was nestled between ______’s sticky thighs that squeezed about it in desperation about him. All the while, her face burnt red and her mind grew foggier by the second.
“Pl-Please, Kazuha,” gasped as she turned her head from the kiss. “I need you!”
Kazuha just ignored her though, grabbing her jaw and turning her gaze back to him before kissing her. His knee, however, granted friction to the aching cunt below him. He didn’t even chide her when ______’s hips rolled against his knee. Kazuha just grinned, nibbling at ______’s bottom lip in between breathless kisses.
But it wasn’t enough. ______ needed more. Her cunt was sopping wet. She was sticky and wet and her slick was soaking her thighs and panties. Any longer, though, grinding against her boyfriend’s knee, and her panties wouldn’t be the only thing wet.
And Kazuha knew it too. He felt the desperation growing in the thrusts and chuckled darkly.
Finally, he pulled back, panting softly. He sat up on his haunches and pushed back his bangs.
“Such a good mommy. So patient for me. So I’ll let you choose,” he gave a sadist’s smile down at her. A smile she’d never seen in her life. A smile that left her gasping at the words that came from his mouth.
“Do you want my tongue ?” he asked, raising a hand to form a ‘V’ before his mouth. His eyes glazed over with lust like never before as he flicked his tongue out, looking right into his girlfriend’s eyes. “Or does mommy want my cock?”

Can I ask your top 10 fav fics ever (from any fandom, if you don't mind)?
Also, just curious, is there a story behind your name "crowdemoninkinkyboots "?
before i give my fav fics, my username is in reference to sebastian because he’s a crow demon with kinky boots uvu
okay these are in no particular order but here’s my top 10 fics:
Shapeshifter by Honeythief
black butler, sebaciel
y’all this fic broke me. whoever suggested it owes me emotional compensation. but it also hurt so good. it’s in first person which may turn off some people but i promise it’s worth the read
Sanglier by vanroku
twisted wonderland, rookpel with a hint of jackpel
it’s painfully hard finding dead dove/whump content with my fav pomefiore boys, but this is absolutely perfect
Timeless Eternity by GammaRays
demon slayer, kibutan
y’all this fic is dark. but it’s so good. it kinda sparked my thing for captor/captive tropes, and tbh it’s probably my fav kny fic
actually i lied the next two are fics i commissioned i still absolutely adore (they’re also omegaverse lmao)
Knock Knock Little Bunny by mattysones
demon slayer, kibutan
i was so excited for this fic and it was worth the wait. omegaverse + whump is such a tasty combination for me and matty wrote it perfectly. best money i’ve spent.
Torridity by mcpoggy
demon slayer, kanaoi
mcpoggy is usually a giyutan writer and i’m probably going to add one of her other fics here but i absolutely adored how this fic came out. it’s so vanilla compared to the other fics listed but i love it. i need more omegaverse yuri in my life
When I Kissed The Teacher by mcpoggy
demon slayer, giyutan
this is like THE giyutan fic, and also my first bookmark on ao3. it’s also vanilla compared to most other fics on this list but giyutan does have an age gap. it’s super long but i’d alway recommend mcpoggy’s giyutan fics uvu
heads rolling for the one i adore by nyabatos
genshin impact, zhongven
ok i’m INCREDIBLY biased because the author is my best friend but she’s such an incredible writer. it’s also such an interesting au where venti sacrifices his freedom to zhongli to save mondstadt and the aftermath of that deal
The Fall of Mondstadt series by Probabri
genshin impact, kaeluc
whoops my bias is showing again bc i’m also friends with the author but this story awakened kinks in me i didn’t know i had oops
Spear Fishing by reallybadcontent
genshin impact, beidou/fem!reader
ahem. so. i’m not typically into reader pov fics but beidou is. beidou. and i’m a weak lesbian. and ngl i also imagined my oc instead. so. next fic
Dream A Little Dream of Me by BadBadz
black butler, sebaciel
ok i’m being biased again, since this was based off of a tumblr post i made, but i was so happy it inspired someone and it turned out great. of course my fav sebaciel fics have angst in them…it’s like i like hurting myself…
pls lmk if y’all have ever read any of these fics/ur thoughts! i’m sure u all noticed a trend lol

about me: i'm a twenty years old woman. i'm a big fan of horror movies, i like playing calming video games like animal crossing and stardew valley but ironically i don't really like horror games. i spend most of my time watching movies/shows and reading fics. i mostly read angsty fics with toxic relationships and fucked up characters but if you've read my fics you'll notice most of them are fluffly. the reason for that is that i use writing as a coping mechanism so i prefer writing about cute moments for my ships. also it takes a lot of energy out of me to write really angsty fics but sometimes i'm in the mood for an emotional rollercoaster lol. i'm currently battling with an opiate addiction, which is why i haven't put out a lot of content but lately writing is really helping me cope so yeah. but still, please be patient with me i don't have a schedule for writing and as i've said life is rough at the moment
rules: honestly i'm open to anything on this blog. you can ask me about my fics, tell me about your day, ask questions about me (obviously not personnal information like my adress or boob size 😭), give me fic recs or send me your fics i will be happy to read them! ideas, shows and movies, etc. we can discuss anything really, there is no need to be shy and there is an anonymous option in the ask box for those who are really shy <3
ships i love: harumatsu, qingguang, kokoyae, kokoeimiko, kaebedo, dainkae, tamber, harlivy, emison, jikook/taekook/vminkook (only in fiction, i don't ship them in real life), namo/sanayeon/samoyeon (same i don't ship irl),
ships i like: kokoei, eimiko, jeanlisa, ninglan, mira harberg x laurie, choni, beidou x ganyu, posie, shenhe x yun jin, haleb, spoby, aria x men her age 🤨
ships i'm curious/would like to read about: chilumi, zhongli ships, lisa x la signora

𝖙𝖊𝖒𝖕 𝖕𝖎𝖓𝖓𝖊𝖉. independent arlecchino of genshin impact. headcanon-dependent until canon proves otherwise. minors dni. #𝐊𝐍𝐀𝐘𝐕.
BLOGROLL: @baishouqijia ✦ @capitaneus ✦ @kohlapsar
Tumblr media
I. no homophobia, transphobia, racism, sexism, harassment etc. i do not reblog callouts unless the individual is genuinely harmful (i.e. behaviour related to those listed), rather than being called out for personal grievances. you are welcome to block the tag 'callout /' for this purpose.
II. i do not interact with minors. if you are a minor, i ask that you do not interact with me or this blog. i cannot guarantee that this blog will remain sfw, therefore this is a blanket rule.
III. arlecchino is a villain, and i don't intend to shy away/soften her up, so dark topics may be present. that said, i do not write incest, nsfw involving minors or sexual violence - i'm okay with these topics being included in a character's backstory but will not be writing these explicitly.
i do write nsfw headcanons/nsfw themes in my threads. this may include sexual content and explicit gore / violence, with my rp partner's consent.
as an aside, i appreciate that a lot of people enjoy the villain/victim dynamic but please don't reach out to write with me if you're only focused on tragedy/victim plot for your muse. it's very one-sided for development, and i get very little enjoyment from writing it. i want to explore arlecchino as her own person, and not as a plot device.
IV. please specify muse before interacting with me if you are a multi-muse. i'm very original character friendly, so long as there's a viable way for arle to interact with your muse.
V. please check out headcanon tags before interacting! arlecchino has little canon information so will be reliant on these. some are supported by canon lore, some of these will just be based on pure vibes alone.
my arlecchino uses she / he / they pronouns and i use them interchangeably.
VI. this blog will be low activity. i work full time in a demanding job, so please don't interact with me if you need fast replies to maintain a muse. i am quite responsive ooc, but when it comes to writing, you will just have to take my word for it that i am worth the wait ʚ₍ᐢ. .ᐢ₎ɞ
VII. shipping is very cool and i am open to it! i ship with both genshin and non-genshin muses, and occasionally ocs. i prefer headcanoning more than actual writing due to my writing speed, but i am still interested! i prefer shipping with chemistry rather than what's considered canon, and i'm generally singleship but this is not a hard rule. i’m also poly friendly.
ship bias: tsaritsa, columbina, sandrone, signora, beidou, rosaria, childe, capitano
all others are welcome to explore, no hard feelings if it doesn't work out c:
VIII. i'd appreciate it if you didn't use heavy metaphors / poetry in our threads. absolutely no hate or anything, i just find it very difficult to understand what the characters are actually doing in this writing style. i also ask that you don't use real life face claims in our threads; i write characters who do not have irl images so it feels very space jam.
IX. i write muses without knowing most of their lore from in-game text because i am lazy. i play genshin daily, but most of it the lore supplied by youtube/wiki because i genuinely cba going through all of the texts in game to get pantalone crumbs. if i write something incorrect to canon, like hideously wrong, feel free to let me know. chances are i just didn't read the small print.
X. i go by dima or vodka! i'm 27 and use they/them. i'm a hobbyist artist and i love fantasy, liches in particular. i will draw our muses whether u like it or not. my dms are open, feel free to ask for my discord, or genshin uid if you play on EU!

— 05. [OCEANUS] BEIDOU X FEM! AFAB READER
Tumblr media
Warnings : Slight exhibitionism, use of dildo, vaginal penetration, oral, NSFW (DNI IF YOU'RE UNDER 18+)
— You'd just finished a fancy dinner with your family, finally introducing your fiancée, Beidou, it'd been a long time coming, it wasn't an issue to your family that you're bound to marry a woman, in fact, they were proud of it, Beidou was well off and a very admirable woman, she's loaded all because of a dubious job, all though you didn't really bother, you were apprehensive for her safety.
You had to fly on Beidou's private jet since your home town was in another country far away from Tel Aviv, where you and Beidou had decided to settle down, you loved your life there, being spoilt with lavish things and a good fucking almost every night, you were only staying home and being a good little house wife for Beidou, she had given you an option if you wanted to work, saying you had the freedom to do so but it wasn't needed, Beidou has plenty for even your third child to spend their entire lives.
After dinner, you both went home to your family's villa, where nearly half of your blood line was present, the great daughter of your parents finally being married off to, they were ecstatic for you, Beidou was enjoying your family's company, your father even initiating a drinking session with her, inviting men from your family, gathering around in a circle with guitars playing and jamming to random songs. You were relieved that Beidou was content; it had been a long time since she had decided to let loose, and you had to coerce her into it, wanting her to take a break from her demanding job.
You had just finished a conversation with your mother and aunties, which ended with your mother crying because she was afraid to let go of her daughter, you gave her a laugh and hugged her, saying you were tired and heading up to your bedroom where you and your fiancée will be staying, you took a shower, changing into a maroon Victoria secret night gown, the lacy hem reaching just below your ass, and applying lotion all over your body and heading to bed, you were tired from all the social interaction that you drifted off easily.
You awoke with someone shaking your body, you groan as you open one eye, assessing Beidou's brown hair falling over your face as she gives you a shit eating grin, you place a hand to your chest, shocked by the sudden jump scare, "Oh my god, love, what are you doing? it's three in the morning," you said as you sat up, looking at the clock and rubbing your eyes.
Beidou was out of her blazer, only wearing her pants and her maroon lace bralette, she shifted onto the bed, folding her body and hugging your waist, you kept your squeal in, she looked so adorable and peaceful, you heard her say muffled words, "What was that?" She finally looks up at you, a drunk blush littered across her tanned cheeks, "I'm really hungry." She says as she returns to nuzzle her face to your stomach, you chuckle as you asked her to come with you downstairs so you can fix her food.
You went downstairs with Beidou, she sits idle on the kitchen counter while you fix her pasta, you felt warm hands wrap around your waist as Beidou nuzzles her face into your neck, you give her a peck on the cheek, "I'm not hungry anymore," she said, "What about this pasta then? Come on, I know you're hungry-"
"I am, but not for pasta," she said, quickly turning off the stove as she moved you to the counter, carrying your weight by your waist as she sat you on the cold kitchen island, you gasping at the sensation of coldness and Beidou's warm hands roaming your thighs, "I know something that's far more fucking delicious than pasta." She said, her eyes darkening as she nips at your neck, to your breasts that's covered with a light cotton fabric.
"Beidou not- not here please! someone could walk in anytime-ugh!" You moan, throwing your head back as you feel something hard grind against your core, is this woman serious? she had a strap on this whole time!
"Ah! feel s' good!" You moan silently, grinding harder on Beidou's strap, she smirks at your neck, holding your hips down to prevent you from going further, you give her a whine as she chuckles on your desperation, "What do you want? tell me." you turn your head away, shying away, you couldn't utter those words! especially if a family member might hear you, it'd be so embarrassing, you try to pry your hips away, longing for friction, Beidou's hand stayed put, keeping your hips in place, you stare up at the woman, knitting your eyebrows together and biting your lower lip, hoping the pleading action will suffice.
"That won't work pretty girl, I need you to say it." She exclaims, her chest rising and falling due to the thrill you were giving her.
"Please, love I need it so bad." You whisper quietly beside her ears, your hot breath ghosting the shell of her ears, she bites her lips, closing her eyes tightly to regain her composure.
"Need what huh? I give you everything my darling, what more exactly do you want?" She asked, a teasing glint in her eyes as the side of her lips rose into a sexy smirk.
"Fuck please, I need- need your cock inside me please-" You whine, whispering lightly beside her ears, giving a hot wet kiss on the shell of it, you feel her shivers as a triumphant grin settles in your lips. "Please fuck me hard." You whisper, giving her the last straw as she abruptly rips the thin string connecting your panties together, you gave her a look that says "That pair was expensive!", she gave you a light chuckle, "I'll buy you another pair, or two." She said, you unbutton her pants, sliding it down to her wide hips as your met with the plastic cock that's far way too big to fit in you, you release a sarcastic laugh.
"Funny joke Beidou, real funny," You said as you lift your body up with your arms to jump off the counter, not until Beidou interrupted you.
"Where do you think you're going? You're taking this." She said, carrying you by your underarm as she places you back on the counter, "Come on, love you know that won't fit! It'll hurt so much." You frown, your eyebrows knitting together as a pout settles on your lips, you looked like you were in deep thought, Beidou laughs heartily, rubbing away the crease between your eyebrows with the pads of her thumb, "That's why my mouth is here, is it?" She says, that familiar shit eating grin on her stupid sexy face again.
You playfully smack her chest as she grabs your lips with hers, filling your mouth with her lingering tongue, exploring every nook of your mouth, you gasp into hers, the vibration disorienting her. She leaves a path of love bites down your neck, chest, and thighs. She nestles herself between your thighs, nibbling and sucking, you were looking forward to the marks tomorrow morning, your cheeks flushed as you drape your forearm over your eyes, puffing and heaving like a miserable slut.
You finally feel Beidou's hot tongue trailing down your slit, collecting the slick that had pooled in your needy pussy, you arch your back as you grab onto her hair, the gold clip holding her half up half down hairstyle falling into the tiles, making a loud clink sound, you clamp your hand to your mouth as you hear the thump of slippers, trailing towards where you two were, you try your hardest to pry Beidou off, she smiles into your pussy as she kept eating you out, your breath comes out staggered, as the feeling of thrill settles in your veins, you could feel you were close, you pushed Beidou's head away from your cunt, but she locks her arms around your thighs, pressing her face closer into your cunt.
You close your eyes shut, biting your lip till it drew blood. You hear the steps dissipating, sounding more and more distant until it's quiet once more, you release a heavy breath.
"Fuck-fuck you! you shouldn't have done that, stupid! someone couldn't have seen us!" You whisper shouted.
"But we didn't, did we not?" She smirks, letting out an annoying chuckle, you feel her slap the tip of her strap onto your clit, you jolt away from the sensitivity.
"Such a sensitive pussy, all mine hmm?" She asks, you nod eagerly as you pry your legs open, she chuckles at your pathetic attempt, legs shaking as you wait for her to push her cock into your needy cunt.
She teases your wet hole with the tip of her cock, pushing in but only a little bit, you bite your lips, closing your eyes as you held onto her shoulders, pushing your hips in, deep.
Beidou's eyes widened, as instinct, placing her palms to your mouth to muffle your strident moan, "Oh my fucking god, baby, what are you doing to me?" She mutters lowly, staring at where you two were connected. The strap bulging against your tummy, "Am I up to here?" She asks as she presses on it, you let out a mewl, urging her to go faster.
She places both her hands on either side of you, steadying herself, thrusting at a fast and even phase, you struggled to keep your tiny moans in as you hear Beidou grunt quietly, she keeps trusting in and out of you as you feel your orgasm invade your senses, mouth silently widening open, tears rolling down your cheeks, back arched as you attempt to catch your breath. She thrusts in even after you come, the strap reaching places you couldn't reach with your fingers, so deep like the ocean, oceanus.
She slows down, admiring your come on her strap, slapping the tip once more as you jolt, you try hit her in the chest again but she grabs your fist before you could.
"Let's go to bed, I love you, I can't wait to make you my wife.

Date at the Amusement Park!

What is it like to go on a date to the amusement park with them? (spoiler alert, lots of fun!) [18.O1.2O22]
content under the cut | masterlist
Tumblr media
≡;- ꒰ CHONGYUN ꒱
He is nervous beforehand, not because he is afraid of the rides, but because he doesn't know if he will be comfortable in these surroundings.
This is a bit of my personal view, but Chongyun seems like someone who is prone to experience sensory overload quite fast?
Amusement parks draw in a huge number of people, meaning his senses will have a lot of imput to deal with the entire time. He worries that it might become too much for him, that he will leave you disappointed when he needs to take a breather away from the busy heart of the park, that you will come to the conclusion that he isn't fun to go out with.
Still, he decides to risk it, only to find out that it's totally worth the risk!
He actually likes the elated atmosphere that hangs in the park and as long as it doesn't get too crowded around him he is totally fine.
Most rides aren't all that intimidating, he also comes to find, and the excessive music and flashing lights add to the fun factor, so he can bear it pretty well.
Okay, maybe he isn't too big of a fan of the more extreme rides, only hopping in occasionally if he knows you enjoy them but please give him a bit of time so he can ground again after being shaken up by that one rollercoaster with multiple loopings, freefalls and corkscrews.
With Chongyun, there are quite a few moments where you just retreat to the more quiet areas of the park, to sit and relax for a bit while you eat and drink something and just relish in the small break from the liveliness.
Oh, give him cotton candy. The blue one because Chongyun with blue cotton candy is adorable for obvious reasons.
You two also decide to eat churros but I speak from personal experience that it takes quite a while before the nauseous feeling disappears after eating them so you spend a lot of time skipping past all the rides and just walking through the park hand-in-hand.
He preferably goes home long before the amusement park closes its doors for the day, but you convince him to stay longer by telling him how the park will empty out as it grows darker. Having the park almost all for yourselves brings a sheen of peace over the area, and it's a good way to process all the events of that day before you go home.
≡;- ꒰ BEIDOU ꒱
Yo, Beidou absolutely loves it here.
The buzz in the air, the liveliness, the contagious joy shared between all the visitors, the rowdy rides that are sure to set the adrenaline pumping; yeah, that's her definition of entertainment.
You're bound to have the time of your life when you visit an amusement park with Beidou.
She's so cool!! Truly not afraid, not even the tiniest bit nervous at all, for any of the rides. This woman is probably the calmest person in the queue between all the nervously fidgeting people. Even the waiting time doesn't really bother her, I think she's pretty patient and only thinks of it as an opportunity to talk to you and not as a waste of time.
"That was quite tame," she states after getting off the most intense ride in the entire park.
You are standing next to her, trying to process what kind of rabid storm you just went through as you thoroughly wonder how Beidou is so unfazed.
Is there even a ride that can impress this woman to begin with? I honestly don't think there is. Nothing can stop her.
Maybe it's just a thing in my country, but a lot of the amusement parks here have pirate-themed rides and of course Beidou would gravitate towards them.
Her excitement is so contagious and you too enjoy the buzz of adrenaline as you go from ride to ride though you are a lot more nervous than Beidou lol.
She also really values the moments of leisure, though. Taking a seat near the arcade or near the food stalls, taking a break from the adrenaline and enjoying the livelihood around you.
Yeah, she still favors the bustling parts of the park over the quiet parts, but if you tell her you need a break from the chaos she'll listen to you without second thought and find a calm spot with you.
In these moments, she still makes sure to have fun and the two of you enjoy some light-hearted conversations and a good laugh together while sharing a drink. Even now, there won't be a dull moment with Beidou around.
≡;- ꒰ XIAO ꒱
He genuinely doesn't see the appeal of amusement parks. Those big metallic structures? The loud noises? The lights that flash everywhere? Mortals have peculiar ways of passing time, he thinks, following you through the park with his hands buried in his pockets stubbornly.
Don't worry, he isn't completely appalled by the idea of being here. The joy in your eyes when he said yes is all worth it, he just isn't expecting to have fun at all and his expression is a bit sour.
Maaaybe his mood is a bit grumpy at the beginning of the day as well, but it is quick to dissipate since your joy and excitement is pretty contagious and Xiao loves it when you look so happy – how can he possibly stay grouchy when you are smiling like that?
It's fairly easy to convince him to join you for rides, and it doesn't really matter which rides you line up for because he follows you anyway. If this peculiar form of mortal entertainment makes you happy, then he shall partake in these activities as well.
Xiao seems quite unfazed by the rides, and even if he is nervous at all, he doesn't show it in the slightest bit. At the same time, he doesn't really get why you are nervous because you're the one who wants to take the ride?? Still, finds it adorable but won't admit it, just quietly tells you that nothing bad will happen and emphasizes that he won't hesitate to confront whoever is responsible for this place when something does go wrong.
His protectiveness makes you laugh softly – of course you know nothing is going to happen, it's just the adrenaline and excitement that makes you a bit jittery.
It's not long before he comes to find that he kind of likes the adrenaline rush that awakens during rollercoaster rides.
"Hey, Xiao," you call out, taking his hand in yours and using your other hand to point at a specific ride ahead of you. "Wanna try that rollercoaster?"
Even though he replies with a gruff "fine, whatever," you can see the excited glint in his amber eyes and it's the cutest thing ever.
He still isn't a fan of the crowd and all the flashing lights and chaos that surrounds you, but he endures it for you and now that he has found his enjoyment as well, it bothers him less and less and against your expectations, you end up staying until closing hours.
Also, please take this guy with you on the ferris wheel at night.
You softly take his hand and watch his awestruck gaze when you reach the top of the ride, where you have a wide panorama view over the almost fairytale-like scenery that stretches out afore you.
He is speechless, the sea of tiny lights reflecting in his eyes. He turns to you and for the first time that day, or maybe even for the first time in a while, he offers you a grateful smile.
≡;- ꒰ THOMA ꒱
Honestly, I think amusement park dates are a reoccuring event with Thoma, simply because he truly enjoys going there with you and it's his goal to visit all the parks across the country together.
Expect to be there from opening 'til closing hours!
Cool guy who isn't all that intimidated by any of the rides but exits the more extreme ones with wobbly legs and a look on his face that says "what the heck just happened–"
That doesn't stop him from lining up again, though. Especially when you enjoyed the ride, he will gladly go in once more despite feeling like he has just conquered a hurricane.
Oh, prepare to also spend quite some time at the arcade section.
Thoma must and shall win the biggest plushie for you, no matter what it takes please stop him as soon as it gets out of hand!
He's doing really well, and you can't quite tell if it's skill or just plain luck, but without wasting too much money he manages to reel in quite some smaller prizes, but as I said, he isn't satisfied before he wins you the biggest plushie of them all.
Yeah, of course he succeeds.
He realizes too late that you now have to drag the massive dog plushie through the park for the rest of the day but he takes responsibilities and thus, he walks around with a massive stuffy in his arms.
He won't complain, not even once!
But you might catch him looking at the plushie with a very troubled expression sometimes.
Thoma is a real gentleman.
He carries your bag and all the snacks and drinks and prizes he won, on top of the huge stuffed toy. He also hold your hands reassuringly in line if he notices that you are a bit nervous for the ride, but yeah even if you're not nervous he still holds your hand because why not?
This guy just wants to give you a nice day full of fun and enjoyment and he doesn't care if he ends up with sore muscles the next day because of all the stuff he carried for you all day.
You don't even have to thank him. Seeing the smile on your face is the best reward he could wish for!
≡;- ꒰ GOROU ꒱
He's a courageous baby.
Even if some rides initially intimidate him a bit, he doesn't hesitate to line up, reassuring you that he'll be fine.
Maybe a tiny little bit to look cool in front of you, or maybe even because he wants you to be proud of him, but mostly because in his eyes, fears are something to overcome.
Especially since he knows that he will most likely have lots of fun as soon as the nervousness wears off, and he really wants to enjoy all the rides with you.
I think Gorou sometimes has these little burst of energy every now and then and then he's skidding next to you excitedly with a sparkle in his eyes, while a little later, he's more laidback in his demeanor and just looks around him to take in his surroundings and all the things that happen in the bustling amusement park.
Shooting games at the arcade!
He's very good at them and he looks absolutely adorable when he's like super focused on taking aim to guarantee a bullseye hit in nearly all of the targets.
He ends up winning a lot of stuff but I can see him as the type to forget them somewhere and by the time you realize you can't find them anymore no matter how many times you wander around the park.
He feels so guilty!! But you tell him that it's okay while secretly gushing over how cute his adorable pout is.
Also expect a lot of hand holding because he doesn't wanna risk losing you in the crowd.
But he also uses this as an excuse when there is hardly anyone around because he just wants to hold your hand y'know?
Every time the two of you take a break he will heave out a relieved breath now that he can finally stop summoning up the courage for all those crazy rides for a minute or so, but it won't be long until he decides that it's about time for the next ride.
Yeah, he really likes it here.
Bonus; Gorou getting all shy as you offer to share a huge fluff of cotton candy but he's more than happy to do so, and he takes really tiny bites until you stuff his mouth with a big floof of candy floss and burst out in laughter until he returns the favor!!
≡;- ꒰ AYAKA ꒱
She never really did anything like this before, so you two visiting an amusement park together is really special to her!
The days prior to the visit, she is super excited, though she is quite timid when it comes to showing it, and it's the little things and habits that let you know how much she is looking forward to it.
On the day itself, though, she gets quite nervous. She has absolutely no idea at all about what to expect and is happy that you are going with her because she wouldn't set foot there with anyone else.
Though she is kinda used to big crowds because of her family's importance, she still gets quite overwhelmed once you arrive, due to the jittery atmosphere and flashing lights and cacophony of sound.
Please hold her hand!!!
She will take some time to let loose a bit, but over time you see the smile on her face grow wider and brighter as she points at rides and games she feels like trying.
Ayaka isn't a fan of the extreme rides, not because she's afraid but because she just doesn't find them enjoyable at all, prefering the calmer rides where she can actually enjoy your presence instead of being trashed around in rollercoasters filled with loopings and freefalls.
Your date has a lot of wholesome times where you just share ice cream or other snacks you buy around the park and talk about small things that come to mind and Ayaka is just smiling softly all the time and it makes you so happy because her smile is so precious and it's so sweet to see how she enjoys her time with you!
Ooh, hear me out! Getting plushies together at the arcade!
Ayaka holding her breath and cluthing her hands against her chest every time you are close to winning a prize and the little encouragements she lets out when you are nearly there and trying her best to hide her disappointment when you lose because she doesn't want to give you the feeling of pressure.
Maybe the claw machine isn't in the best mood, maybe you end up pushing in a few more coins than you initially planned, but the smile on Ayaka's face when you hand her the plushie is all worth it!
She is sooo happy!
As grateful as she is, she thanks you over and over again, telling you how much she enjoys her time at the park with you and how much it means to her.
You leave quite early since both of you are pretty worn-out, but you make a silent promise to take her out on another date again soon!!

Tumblr media
soulmates has always been one of the things that made teyvat special.
people had all collectively agreed that meeting their soulmate is one of the most treasuring moment, no matter how strange or hilarious the first encounter is like, no one should ever forget the once-in-a-lifetime moment.
with that said, most stories are usually soulmates– specifically how one meets their fated other. historical moments are no exception to this, such as an archon's first ever encounter with their soulmate during an annual rite, a forbidden love between an immortal being and a human, a sweet story of a soldier and a healer during a certain war, and the list goes on.
but where are stories that contains soulmates who had never met one another? or had a tragic fate that gave them no opportunity to get along with their soulmate anymore?
none.
some would say they'll meet in the afterlife, where they can live on in peace as the world goes on. while some would beg to differ and think that the two soulmates are just bound to not meet.
only little would suggest reincarnation.
and you and your beloved soulmate are one of those little people.
but you honestly didn't think that you and kazuha would be the soulmates with a tragic fate.
the both of you had met thanks to the resistance. when beidou decided to introduce kazuha to kokomi, he met you along the way– the right-hand-person of kokomi and his soulmate.
the both of you had instantly clicked when you met, the wide smile the both of you had appeared when you notice each other's red string being connected.
since then, you were inseparable.
on days when your assigned unit didn't need your assistance at the moment, you usually use those times to hung out with the samurai, often talking about each other's adventures and experiences with the best you can.
it was those days when you incredibly cherished the moments, making sure to remember every second of those moments you had with him before going on battles against kujou sara and her soldiers.
unfortunately for the both of you, the memories that you oh-so cherished would be the last one you'll ever make.
"see you in the next life... kaedehara kazuha," you whispered, staring at the samurai as the both of you lie down on the cold ground with soldiers fighting around the both of you, blood gushing out from your mouth. "whether it'd be in the next life or another, may celestia let us have another chance."
you watched as kazuha smiled lightly, his hand shakily trying to reach out to yours until he intertwines it together. "till we meet again, y/n."
as the war between the resistance and the raiden shogun continued, you and kazuha let out your one last breath before passing away.
much to you and kazuha's hopes, the war against the vision hunt decree won victoriously, with the raiden shogun lifting up the decree and brought inazuma back to its usual peaceful life before the decree.
of course, the resistance alongside the traveler paid respects to you and kazuha's passing, telling you that you and kazuha can rest now that they won.
as centuries flew by, teyvat had a major change among the nations. in this particular century, archons and visions had long been forgotten, with technology around the world being more advanced than before. as for soulmates? they still exist fortunately.
then there's you, a person who found joy in traveling around the world and tell the world about it. at least, that's what people think.
to you, you simply wanted to travel around teyvat to find a person named kaedehara kazuha.
recently, you started getting dreams of a man who goes by kaedehara kazuha. some were usually romantic that it gave you butterflies, some were conversations that you sometimes would forget, and of course, the dreams that often haunt you.
most dreams of yours were always lying down beside the man– who was bleeding to death. was this a sign of him dying? what is the purpose of these dreams?
you didn't know why this was happening to you. are you slowly going insane? or were you just overreacting?
whatever it was, you knew that deep down that it has something to do with your soulmate.
you went high and low around each nation you visited, often asking certain people if they've know a man named kaedehara kazuha, only to receive no useful information that could help you.
of course, your only source that could help you find him is the red string that connects you and your soulmate, following the direction it led you with hopes of it twitching as a sign that you're near.
unfortunately, none of the nations you've visited had no signs of who you're looking for.
your last stop is inazuma, a nation that's infamous for having beautiful firework shows and tourist spots. there's not a single place that isn't worth taking pictures of.
the moment you arrived to the nation using a boat,l you came across to a woman whose name is beidou.
"i don't know a man whose name has a kaedehara, but i have a son who coincidentally has the same name as kazuha!" she exclaims with a grin. "i don't think he's the one you're looking for though, i've never seen him hung out with someone like you or anyone else who isn't gorou."
you smile lightly at the woman, trying to not look disappointed. "i see.. thank you again, miss beidou."
she quickly waved you off. "good luck in finding the man you're looking for!"
the moment you immediately checked in ritou, you started exploring around the nation with no plans of stopping, hoping to see at least one person who looks like the man in your dreams or has their red string connected to your finger.
unfortunately, every area you've visited in the land, you still haven't found the end of the string, your hopes slowly dying down as time flew by.
you decided to explore more the next day, deciding to go back to inazuma city and have dinner in one of their infamous restaurants.
as you sat down on one of the stools while waiting for kanbei to cook your meals, you let out a disappointed sigh. if you couldn't find your soulmate anywhere, where could he be?
what if kaedehara kazuha doesn't exist at all? what if he died before you could even meet him and find out what's going on with your dreams?
you let out another sigh, rubbing the back of your neck in frustration. you hoped all of this wasn't a waste of your time. you honestly don't know what to do if you won't be able to find him at all, let alone what happens after you meet him.
unnoticed by you, your red string started twitching nonstop. a man suddenly enters the place, sitting down one seat away from where you are.
"rough day, kazuha?" kanbei asked, not bothering to look away from the pot as he continues to focus on cooking your meal.
"not exactly. i found a perfect spot to write haiku." the man, kazuha, replied.
as kazuha and kanbei continued conversing, you couldn't help but find yourself slowly drifting to sleep, now feeling the exhaustion from your exploration around the nation.
before you could completely pass out on the counter, you immediately woke up from the delicious smell of your meal, looking up to see the chef being finished with your meal already. perhaps the reviews weren't lying when they said this restaurant is fast with services.
you quietly thanked the chef when he placed the meal down in front of you, feeling your mouth watering at the sight of the delicious meal before digging up, still not noticing the red string twitching nonstop due to your focus on filling your hunger.
"thank you again, kanbei." kazuha speaks up as he grabs the packaged food from the chef's hands and hands over the payment.
"always happy to serve, kazuha. see ya tomorrow." kanbei said, watching as the man walks away from the restaurant.
out of curiosity, you glance at who you assume is beidou's son, only for your eyes to widen at the sight of the same man that you've been seeing in your dreams–
along with his red string connecting to yours.
without thinking, you immediately jumped down from your stool, staring at kazuha, who already walked out from the diner without a glance of your direction. "i'll be back and continue eating my meal. apologies for my rudeness!" you exclaim before running towards kazuha's direction without letting a single word come out from kanbei, who was confused at your words.
"kazuha!" you yelled, hoping kazuha would hear your voice despite the sounds of cars and people being loud around the both of you.
you tried to call for the man again, only for you to get frustrated when he still hadn't heard a word from you. was he wearing earphones?!
you immediately look down at your string and back at kazuha, hesitating for a moment before shaking the string aggresively. please, please, please look back! please look like you're him–
you sigh in relief when he finally noticed his string shaking, causing him to stop his trakcs and look behind him to see you running towards him like your life depends on it.
his eyes widens at the sight of you running towards him, your face was all too familiar for him to remember. it can't be, you only existed in his dreams!
the both of you suddenly remember certain memories the both of you didn't even knew you had. memories of which the both of you used to be in. memories of the both of you walking around the infamous serpent head as soldiers trained with all their might for the upcoming war, memories of the both of you watching the stars and wish for the resistance to win victoriously, memories of your past life that you and kazuha had forgotten.
that was enough for kazuha to run towards you as well, his arms suddenly spreading wide open for you to clashed into, dropping his food without a care.
the moment you and kazuha finally had gotten closer, you tackled the man into a hug as tears prickled in your eyes, ignoring the questionable stares the both of you received from people passing by.
"i found you." you whispered, closing your eyes shut as you let out a sound of relief. "after so.. so many months, i finally found you."
kazuha hugs you back, pulling you closer to his body as he sighs in relief. now that there's no more wars or something to run away from, the both of you can start anew and live the life the both of you had wanted back then.
"i missed you."

Diluc
What? Diluc has a roommate? Did you blackmail him in living with you? Is that even possible? Did you throw yourself in front of his car because you needed someone to pay for your student loans and the easiest way was to file a lawsuit? In this economy no one would blame you. Diluc seems like such the self-isolated character that would murder his roommate in cold blood but in reality, he act’s detached from the world because he forgot how to socialize and he’s desperately trying to cover it up without choking. That or he’s trying to learn how to astral project. If he could drink away the pain he would but instead he buys 20 packs of grape Kool-Aid and injects it into his veins.
Does not and will not ever have a normal sleeping schedule. You’ll wake up to him working, come back home to him working, and will sleep to him still working. His daily dose of Vitamin D is from the brightness of his screen rather than the sun and he’s filter feeding at this point. It’s concerning. He’s going to crumble and he’s bringing the world down with him. Through the power of tax evasion. But as soon as he needs to walk out into society, he pulls movie magic and looks like perfection. It’s both physically and mentally disgusting.
He’s actually is a really nice roommate to have just so long as you give him space. Great cook and knows to clean up after himself. Though he does have crash and burn days where’s he’s completely out of commission. You could set the entire apartment on fire and he would sleep through it. The entire two weeks are dedicated to zombie eye marathons and then he’ll suddenly collapse and sleep for 46 hours straight. When he wakes up from his hibernation he’s the most groggy and nonsensical person. His life blood is coffee because you keep hiding the 5 hour energy away from him because, you know, life is enjoyable and those cancer bottles will actually kill him.
“University sucks our money out of our bodies faster than our will to live.”
Tumblr media
Beidou [Happy Birthday Queen 💕]
Despite her appearance, she’s actually really strong and it scares the piss out of you when you’re doing something or scrolling through your phone mindlessly and you suddenly get your spine re-arranged when she slaps you on the back to ask what you’re doing. Likewise, when she hoists you up and throws you over her shoulder so you come with her on her 3am convivence store raids for alcohol. It’s either you change now or else we’re walking out of the apartment in your t-shirt and no pants self. She can and will carry you under her arm that way. It’s both incredibly attractive and horrifying at the same time.
She’s really friendly and a great talker if you’re alright with her “I must hold you in my arms, fresh prince of bel air style”. It doesn’t matter if you’re taller than her, she’s doing it. She does however, get in a bit of trouble from her rowdiness and you often get noise complaints but Beidou just passes them off to Ningguang and everything is fixed. She has ovaries of steel when neighbors rather confront her personally and she’s ready to 1v1 in the parking lot. You’re trying to desperately hold onto her shirt to stop her from pile driving your neighbors for the third time this week but she’s too strong.
She’s constant party until we die attitude and suffers the hangover in the morning. It’s actually really funny to catch her in her hangover moods because whatever filter Beidou had, which is none, is gone. She really takes “cursing like a sailor” or the next level and the amount of creativity she comes up with is actually impressive. She can be a bit messy but she’s really likeable and always down to go anywhere with you as long as you’ll do the same. It’s a very ride together, we die together situation. You’re my best friend, you’re dying with me. I’ll see you in hell.
“Imma T pose over my dad and then crash the car into the parking garage.”
Tumblr media
Kaeya
Kaeya on the surface seems like such a chill roommate. And he is for the most part. But he’s such an ass. Your things are his things, no questions asked. If you just bought a really nice sweater or you had leftover food, that’s his now. He’s innocent until proven guilty even if he’s literally holding your lunch. The pure amount of bullshit he can spit out to convince you that no, he did not pull the fire alarm because he wanted an excuse for not going to work, puts him on Shakespeare level. He’s also very pretty, way too pretty, sir can you share some of your genes?
But aside from that, he’s actually super dependable. You forgot something at home? Sure, he has nothing better to do so he can bring them for you. We’re missing eggs? No problem, he’s just by the store. You’re 95% sure that he just wants to be cheeky and make you thank him for 20 minutes before he actually hands you what you asked for. It’s better for you if you never tell him anything you’re afraid of because Kaeya has no social cues, or more like he throws them out the window, and he’s probably a psychopath.
He’s incredibly private of his room and things despite his attitude towards yours. You’re convinced he either has a secret lab or that’s where he’s storing the bodies. I was the good guy but due to unfortunate circumstances, I need to stab a bitch. But he’s a really good serious talker for those 3am, because everything happens at 3am, talks about life and the meaning of the universe. It absolutely wrecks your sleep schedule but some of the things you talk about are the most crackhead things like what’s the lowest amount of money someone would have to pay you to walk outside without clothes? It’s a legitimate question.
“Never before have I been so offended with something I 100% agree with.”
Tumblr media
Jean
Okay, what world did you save in a past life to live with his absolutely wonderful woman? Mother Teresa take a load off, take a seat. You have nothing to worry about. She’ll bring home little treats back home and it’s the most wholesome thing ever?? Is this what love and affection feels like? We’ve been starved for so long. She says it’s not a big deal and anyone would do it BUT THE MOMENT SOMEONE BUYS FOOD FOR YOU. IT’S A MAGICAL MOMENT. They are forever stuck in your will until proven otherwise. An absolute ray of sunshine that must be protected.
She does get super busy so you don’t often see each other or get to hang out as much. She’s a bit of a workaholic but a lot more easier to talk her into taking a break. She’s also a pretty decent cook but she prefers baking and jesus christ, girl can you calm down? Be still my beating heart, I’ve been smitten. Has mother hen vibes that you’re not sure if she’s your roommate or if she adopted you into her family. It’s time to start a petition for the Jean protection squad. Given the opportunity, I would aggressively hold your hand.
She’s always open to whatever you want to do. Any recommendations or things that you like she will try out at least once despite her busy schedule. She’s lowkey lonely because work consumes her so any time you want to hang out or do something together, she jumps on it like she’s feral. She get’s a bit shy to ask if she can join in on your plans because she doesn’t want to bother you or intrude no matter how many times you tell her that’s okay, she still get’s a bit iffy about it. Please save this girl before she trips. In your arms. Platonically. Just kidding haha. Unless?
“I can’t wait to see you happy and not hating everyone again haha.”
Tumblr media
Childe
First impressions of Childe were great, until he opened his mouth and you realized how much of a two brain cell child(e) he was. He has two braincells because they constantly have to 1v1 in his brain. He’s lived with a lot of siblings so he has no social awareness or concept of privacy that you’re lucky if you come home and he’s half-dressed. It doesn’t matter if you’re 2 weeks older than him, he’s going to call you 82 years old and why your bones aren’t being fossilized at this point. He’s such a little shit, this fucker licks the yogurt lid peel.
He get’s really restless when he’s stuck under house arrest, because apparently 1v1ing in the parking lot of a Wendy’s is illegal for some reason, so he makes dying whale noises until he get’s to go outside again. But he’s actually a really wholesome guy, probably because of his younger siblings, that he’ll sometimes get you something because you seemed down and it’s such whiplash? Who is this man and where did he come from? You’re starting to have a change of heart before he tells you that he got banned from the library for accidently punching the school’s computer. How you “accidently” punch something you have no idea but Childe always comes home with some sort of injury. Maybe he’s just incredibly clumsy. For your sanity, you’re going to go with that.
He’s actually so uncultured that it’s crippling. You can’t blame him too much considering his upbringing and it’s great that he’s so interested in learning new things but...child no...It makes you want to take your spine out of your ass and rip it like a Beyblade. Watching him take chopsticks and stab his food like it’s marshmallows makes you want to fall into a blackhole and let the chair consume you.
“I, too, fantasize about beating the living shit out of people.”

Is this another tag yourself game cause I resonate with Diluc. I’m crying in insomnia. As much as I enjoy writing these fics I absolutely hate tagging them. I remember I used to have a tag anon but that was back when I wrote for bnha.
Valentine’s Day was fun tho. I had a drinking game with friends as we played league then ended it off with a movie night.

Beidou
It doesn’t matter how close or far apart you are from her, she will still find herself drawn to you -- luckily she never has to look very hard because most of the time you are right by her side
She might turn to see you gazing at her, the smile on your face so telling of the affections in your heart -- she’ll be standing at the side of her massive ship and feel the sweet embrace of your arms around her, the comfort of your chest against her back and no matter how chilly the water seems, you’ll always make her warm
She doesn’t mind the close contact, oftentimes she welcomes it, the only thing she worries about is your safety when things start to get unsteady on the choppy seas - but you’ve proven to her how capable you can be in all your skills
The sea was calm, the steady dip and sway of the Crux a constant reminder of the mysteries below. How deep did the water go - what lay just out of her sight and would she ever see the secrets of the depths. Her hands pressed against the deck railing, shoulders locking into place as she leaned against the boat. It was a test to see if your legs could handle the bobbing of the unsteady and, at times, unpredictable ocean temperament but after years of journeying these vast waters, she had no issues.
She closed her eyes and took in the smell of salt mixed with pitch and tar. She’d grown accustomed to the combination but recalled the days where the scent made her retch. Breathing in again, she took in a new scent. Roses and lavender, with a hint of mischief.
“Shouldn’t you be asleep?” Beidou asked, her eyes opening to see you standing in between her arms.
“I couldn’t -- I missed you.” Your smile was as bright as the moon, your fingers as soft as flower petals, voice as delicious as a good bottle of wine. As your fingers ran over her lips she allowed herself to divulge into the taste. “Shouldn’t you also be asleep, captain?” Your tone was playful, experiencing the residual effects of the giggle she coaxed out of your moments before.
“I wanted to check on things, my duties never rest even if I must.” Beidou stepped forward, her hands remaining on the railing even though her body drifted closer to you. The distance didn’t seem to bother you as your arms quickly wrapped around her waist to hold her even closer.
“Then I will check on things with you.”
“Will you now?” She asked, laughing.
“Mhm, you can count on me.”
She adored you and it was easy to see that you returned her feelings -- you always found ways to shower her in your attention, in your affection, and she found herself expecting great things every day
Tonight though, under the light of the moon she took you in her arms and swayed with the help of the ship and the constant, drifting waves
Jean
There are times when she wishes that she can be more available to you, but with all the duties on her plate, she finds it hard to spend more than a few moments here and there. She hopes you understand that her distance isn’t directed at you -- she promises to take every moment that she can to spend it with you
It’s the quick embraces in her office that fill her battery, it’s the soft touches and reassuring gestures that remind her you are happy being with someone so busy, it’s the tender kisses on the cheek when no other eyes can see where she finds herself the most thankful
She never imagined that she’d have someone so incredible as you in her life -- sometimes she wonders if divulging in your generosity, your kindness, your love isn’t selfish … but how could she let anyone else see what you give her every day
Pacing her office was a habit of hers. It helped keep the blood in her legs flowing as she worked longer hours than those around her would like. It wasn’t often that she was able to leave, who knows what might happen if she did. Who might need her advice, support, or solution, so this was the best thing she could get to be physical at times.
Every once in a while she had conversations with Lisa, maybe even finding the chance to stalk Kaeya if only to collect the work he was supposed to return -- though he frequently evaded her. More often than not, she dealt with Klee and her own restless habit. At least Jean’s pacing wouldn’t blow a hole in one of the walls of Mondstadt.
Her mind drifted, her finger pressing against her lips as she worked through the problems outlined in front of her. It was up to her to figure them all out, how exhausting. Jean jumped when she felt something slide around her stomach, her head twisting to see who was entering her space but, when she saw you, her demeanor relaxed substantially.
“You looked stressed.” Your head rested against her, chin finding ground against her shoulder as you looked at her with a tender expression.
“There is a lot to do, but it’s nothing I can’t handle.” She placed her hands onto yours, her thumbs rubbing over your skin.
“Maybe you don’t need to handle them at all?” Jean’s brows furrowed, her eyes shifting as she tried to understand your comment. “I mean, you could give them to someone else you know, delegate.”
“A-ah … then that would just pass the workload onto another, I couldn’t do that.”
“You are quite an impressive woman, Jean, but you can’t do it all alone.”
“It’s my duty …”
“I know, I know.” You pressed a kiss to her neck, the tightness of your embrace increasing as you showed her you understood her position. “How about taking a break then? You need to rest.” You didn’t wait for her to argue. Slowly you brought her to the couch in the corner of her office, making sure she settled into the seat next to you.
“You can keep working if you want, but I’m not letting you get up from here, not for a while anyway.” Jean sighed and resigned herself to your win.
It was easier to give in than try and fight against you anyway, this is why you always won. She had a soft spot for you -- your consideration of her, your patience, your strong will to get her to take some time. You helped her more than she could ever say, and far more than she could ever repay
There was a stir, a shift that pulled Jean from her sleep and when she analyzed her surroundings, she found you resting peacefully on her shoulder. Your hand wrapped around her arm, a blanket draped over the both of you. You looked so peaceful, content -- she smiled and couldn’t deny this was the first time in weeks she felt fully rested
Ningguang
She’s a woman who knows what she wants - the determination, strictness, focus that she has for everything that she does is so incredible there are few that think she must be more than human
Reservation, Composure, Proper - all of these describe how she interacts with others, and when it comes to you she is no different
In the light of the public eye, she treats you with respect -- behind closed doors, she behaves much more attached for she prefers to have you by her side if at all possible - to bathe in your company is like basking in the gaze of Morax himself
Ningguang surrounded herself with documents. Her desk was nearly littered with them, leaving only enough room for a few spare items here and there. It seemed that there was more work to be done after the fall of the Jade Palace and, while she wished to start working on plans for the future, it seemed all her attention was shackled to the present.
Knocking out her pipe into the ashtray, she let it rest so she could stand and organize the current state of work orders piling up behind her. Attendants came and went, their proper work ethic motivating her to continue - how could she expect those around her to keep working hard if she let herself slack. There would be plenty of time to rest once these were through … when that would be though was a question she didn’t have the answers to.
There was a knock at the door, her attention drawn to the soft rapping of knuckles on the rich wooden frame and, when she saw you standing there patiently, she grew more at ease.
“Come in.” She beckons, resting the documents on the table before making her way toward you.
“Are you busy?” You asked, looking over her shoulder at the pile of documents on her desk. While it may appear to others that her duties were smothering, it was common practice for Ningguang to keep records of nearly anything she did.
“There are still many tasks ahead, which we will get to when the time comes. To what do I owe the pleasure?” She felt your fingers wrap around hers and with a soft smile, she let you take them.
“Would you object to me just … hang around for a while?” Your expression was nervous, it was as if you were never fully confident in your standing with her.
“I wouldn’t object, besides, having something nice to look at while one works is good for the heart.” She pushed your chin up as if to remind you to always be yourself around her and when your lips stretched into a smile she knew, once again, that she was right in choosing you.
How could another be allowed to look at your face? How could she handle the thought of you being taken by another -- she often looked at you with eyes you’d swore knew all the answers but love often makes one unsure -- and she was still surprised that you choose a woman like her
A woman who came from nothing, who fought and crawled her way to the place she was today - yet, she couldn’t help but feel that when you looked at her, when your hand rested in hers, when your fingers ran across her skin, that you saw her for the woman she was - nothing more, nothing less - she could be completely herself in your presence
As she continued to work and you offered your input where you could, the two of you never let go of the other hand

I bite my hands and arms as a form of self harm. I was wondering if maybe you could write headcanons where Childe and Beidou catch the reader biting their hands after a stressful trip with their father? If this is too uncomfortable for you, you don't need to write this. thank you.
Hey there ^w^ Thanks for the request! Hopefully this is okay!
TW: Mentions of Self-Harm
S/O Biting Themselves
Tumblr media
Childe:
○ Childe had missed you immensely while you were visiting your father, so when he heard you were coming back he decided to meet you halfway.
○ He wanted to surprise you though, so as far as you were aware he would be waiting for you at home. As far as you were concerned, that would be for the best. You needed time to calm down before you saw him again...
○ Your hands were littered with bite marks, having spent most of your journey home gnawing and biting at the soft skin. An old habit picked up from your home life. It had been a while, but then again you always fell back on it when you were stressed, and your father certainly had that effect on you.
○ You didn't want Childe to worry though, so you never told him. And you were content to keep it that way. He didn't need to know...
"Comrade? What happened to you...?"
○ His voice froze you in your tracks, and you slowly raised your head to find your boyfriend stood ahead of you, concern on his face, his gaze directed at your hands.
○ You moved to shove them behind your back, panic coursing through you. How could he find out like this? What could you tell him...? What would make this stop? More than anything in that moment, you wished the ground would just open up and hide you away from it all.
○ The feeling of Childe's arms around you brought you out of your thoughts, and you realised you had been crying. His hands soothed your back and held you firm, soft soothing words murmured in your ear as he waited for you to calm down.
"You can tell me all about it all after we get you home, okay? Let me take care of you."
○ When you do get home, Childe wont pressure you for answers. He lets you tell him in your own time. While he doesn't fully understand, he'll do his best to support you in recovery, soft kisses placed to your knuckles as he promises to brave this storm with you.
Tumblr media
Beidou:
○ Beidou's used to going lengthy periods of time without getting to see you. She's a captain after all, and you'd never stop her from getting to sail, just as she would never make you leave your old life behind and join her on the seas.
○ Normally you were fine while she was gone. But then again, normally your father wouldn't insist on you spending more time with him. Unable to find an excuse to not go, you were stuck in hell for a week-long trip him.
○ By the time Beidou returned, you had only recently gotten back too, and you hadn't had enough time to really compose yourself again. So, when your love walked in through the door, she found you curled up, absent look in your eyes as you bit down on your hands.
"Hey, hey, hold on there love. What's going on?"
○ She hurries to your side, gently taking your hands in hers and crouching down to your level. It takes you some time to even notice she was there, too lost in memories of that horrible trip.
○ When you finally realise Beidou was holding you, panic shot through you and you yanked your hands free, moving to hide them despite knowing Beidou had already seen the marks.
○ You were so certain Beidou would leave you now. She knew you were hurting yourself. That your father was right, you were just damaged goods. So, when her hands gently cup your cheek, you couldn't help but flinch.
"It's okay kid, I'm here now and I'm not going anywhere. I won’t ask if you don't want me to, but I'm always here if you want to talk, okay? I love you, nothing you could tell me would ever change that."
○ True to her word, there's never any judgment from her, even when you break down sobbing and tell her everything. Beidou just holds you, smoothing your back and letting you get everything out, giving you her unconditional love and support.

White Gold and Maple
Kazuha x reader
Dedicated to my lovely mutual for her birthday @ahtsuwu -- sorry it came so late. You deserve this!
Description: Kazuha is behaving oddly, and for what reason?
Content: fluff, humor (?), surprise birthday, Kazuha being just the best bean. Modern AU (I think), light swearing(?), mentions of a spouse passing away (don't worry it's not too sad),
A/N: Sorry if this is shorter than my usual pieces and not as detailed. I wanted to get a short piece out, I hope it's fine. Also, not edited or proofread, sooo oops.
Stirring from your sleep, you stuck a hand out to find your boyfriend and sneak in close--only to find the spot was unoccupied and cool. Lifting your head, you frowned at the absence.
"Kazuha?"
You swung your legs off the mattress and walked around, confused by the silence in your home. Until you heard some light humming.
Finding your way into the kitchen, the smell of warm maple wafted around you. You found Kazuha standing by the stove, his hair messily put up in a loose bun, as he cooked what appeared to be some breakfast. He did not appear to notice your presence yet, so you quietly walked up behind him and slipped your arms around his waist and leaned against him.
"Oh, I didn't know you were awake. I wish you'd sleep in a bit more, I was going to wake you when I was ready."
"But I missed you," you murmured, slowly breathing out a sigh of content into his back. "I'm glad to see you."
"Ok, go sit down, I'll bring the food over in a bit."
Sitting down at the stool at the counter, you propped your head up on your hands, watching him move about. He turned around, the rich scent of maple and pancakes filling the air. Setting down your portion, he continued to watch you eat, asking if he did a good job with them, before laughing at your enthusiastic nodding, since your cheeks were full of sweet fluff. Your morning had gone along well, with not too much trouble, before he pressed a kiss to your cheek.
"With deep regret, I must leave to attend to some things, but it shouldn't be long, alright?"
"Already? Ok, good luck."
And soon enough, he was out the door, leaving you to clean up after the couple of dishes left from breakfast.
------------------------------------
Bzzzzt Bzzzzt
Reluctant to get off the couch, you ambled to your phone on the nightstand of your room, seeing a text from Beidou.
"Call me."
"Really?" you wondered out loud, knowing Beidou wasn't really one for conversations in the morning. Shrugging, you
"Hey."
"Yo. Listen, can you swing by where I'm at? I'm bored and I need company. Ningguang is shutting me down again, saying she's busy or some shit, ya know, the usual."
"Uh, sure, that's fine. Just send me your location, I'll come by."
"Great! I'll text you the location. Don't be late."
Don't be late? Seriously? From Beidou? "Fine, 'captain', I won't hold your important self up."
-------------------------------
"So, I didn't think you'd be a mall person, Beidou."
"Nah, I just felt like it today, though. So, are you doing anything for your birthday?"
"My wha--"
Oh.
"Crazy that you remembered. But no, nothing planned."
The dark-haired woman quirked an eyebrow up, letting out a small sound. "Well, alright. This'll be my gift to you then. Let's go."
She dragged you along the mall, going from shop to shop, usually checking out food, candies, booze, and some clothes. After indulging in some boba tea and candies, you passed by a quaint little shop that caught your eye.
"Wanna go in? Come on, you seem interested." Beidou encouraged you to enter the shop, and you both quietly walked along the little stands. Earrings adorned a turning stand, necklaces and colorful rings were in glass cases, engraved paperweights, and other such pieces filled the room. You noted that these pieces didn't have the cold, pristine look of big designer jewelry stores.
"Huh, they look handmade, don't they?"
"Oh yes, every piece you see here is handcrafted by my family," a new voice startled you, an older woman with strands of grey enhancing her light brown hair. "Sorry for sneaking up. You've a keen eye."
"They're lovely." Indeed they were, the meticulous attention to detail. The rings looked like they were braided in gold, the gemstones inlaid upon them glittered under the light. Chains were linked carefully, the pendants all unique in some fashion. These pieces had character, something you would not mind having every day on your person.
Something caught your eye--a white gold ring with your birthstones, all laid along a pattern around. Not an engagement ring by any means, but something you visualized adorning your finger on a daily basis.
No, I might come back later and purchase it sometime. If it's not there, it wasn't meant to be.
"Ah, this one? My son made it to commemorate his late wife for her birthday, which is today. She passed several years back, but he chose to never forget her. This year, he decided he would create this ring that was similar to the one he made for her on an anniversary of theirs." The woman's eyes turned down slightly, her smile falling a bit. "But don't worry, he made this piece so that someone may show their love to their partner once again. Would you like to try it on?"
You hesitated, but Beidou coaxed you to try it on, before switching her attention to her phone. The woman slipped the ring onto your ring finger, finding that it fit you perfectly.
A grin appeared on her face. "It suits you, as if it were made for you."
Staring at it for a moment, you felt the slight longing for it, not just because of its appearance, but for the story that came along with it. You shook your head before slipping it off. "I might come back sometime later and see if it's here. I don't have any way to pay for this at the moment, I apologize. But it is beautiful."
"No worries. It might find itself back to you in some manner."
Perhaps, but unlikely. Nodding your head, you trudged along out of the store, expecting Beidou to be behind you, only to find her still inside the store, talking to the owner of the shop. Several minutes later, she hurried out, a faint smile lingering on her lips.
"Don't ask."
"I-- alright."
-----------------------------------
You parted ways with Beidou shortly after, and just as you leave the mall, you receive a text from Yoimiya.
"Hey, I can't make it on time to pick something up, could you go to this location for me, please? I'll make it up to you, PROMISE!! <3"
Shrugging your shoulders, you replied asking for the address, to which she replied with a pinpoint of the location. You texted Kazuha where you were about to go, just in case he made it home before you.
Except, the location wasn't a building. It was a large tent on the top of a hill, away from town. You found a slip of paper and picked it up, wondering whether the person was inside.
What the hell is Yoimiya picking up over here? Is she doing illegal business? What is going on here?
Just before you began to spiral in your thoughts, the tent opened up, revealing a smiling Kazuha. "Well, I'm glad you could make it. Come on, you're just in time."
"Just in time for--"
He pulled you close to him, guiding you to the other side of the tent next to the tree. Motioning for you to sit down, he settled himself right next to you. "Have you read the paper?"
Shaking your head, you pulled the slip of paper you found, finding words on the page in Kazuha's pretty handwriting.
The universe was blessed this day
When the heavens opened up
and you descended on earth
To touch my life.
The stars remain in your eyes,
And I wish on every single one,
That I can be called
Yours.
"Kazuha..." you breathed out, your mouth not able to form the words, as your gaze turned to the beautiful man before you.
"Look up."
At his urging, you turned your face up to the night sky. Several beats passed, before a streak of light shot up, before breaking into a large burst of colors. Several more shot up, taking your breath away. The show of sparkles
"Is that--"
"I had a bit of help to set up this moment. I hope you liked it."
Silence settled in, realizing that he was so excited about your birthday all this time. So the sudden texts from Beidou and Yoimiya weren't just random, they were planned.
"Oh, one more thing." Kazuha searched a pocket and pulled out a small box, bringing your hand close. "I heard from Beidou that this caught your eye, and I couldn't let it slip. So..." The ring you found earlier appeared once again before you, settling onto your ring finger once more. "I got it as a promise for us."
The emotions that built up within you finally spilled, tears streaming down slightly. "Kazuha, I swear...I'm--I'm in bliss right now, just being here with you. I just..." You placed your hands on his face and pulled him in for a soft kiss, which was immediately reciprocated.
The tenderness of the moment cemented a new shift in the relationship, one marked with devotion, rich and sweet, like maple. A birthday like this? You would remember for the rest of your life.

Lather in the Saltless Sea
Tumblr media
Synopsis:
Outside’s cold is forgotten, melted away by her flame—what remains beads on my chest and she too, kisses it away.
I did not know I could be loved like this. I utter her name, and she stills.
Say it again, she tells me. I do. Again. I follow. Once more. I am a simple woman.
Tell me what you want.
You, Lady Ningguang.
In Liyue Harbor, the tale of a Dragon King reaches the curious ears of a woman in gold.
Pairing: Beidou/Ningguang
Word Count: 7.4k
Warnings: None!
Tumblr media
I made a promise with the Tianquan of the Liyue Qixing.
It was years ago when we shook hands. She invited me into her office, then, having heard of me from tales floating around the harbor, offered me a proposition—my service in exchange for something I wanted.
Anything, she told me, she would grant me anything.
I was not capable of doubting her, but I was tempted to decline. What did she have to offer me? I was content with the life I had. Liyue Harbor was not subject to change anytime soon. The death of Rex Lapis was the most exciting thing that had happened in millennia. Well within my lifetime and hers, I did not expect any irregularities, save for the occasional windless afternoon or starless night.
So certain was I that I would have no complaints in the view of every yolk of dawn, some half-caught half-sun peering over the water’s edge. The tide would ebb and flow and I would ride with it, like I had done all my life.
I was simple. I did not tire of a repeating day.
She must have sensed my hesitancy—she asked me what was wrong—I gave her the truth in full.
As I talked, she listened intently, a jeweled finger upon her cheek, motionless. Her mannerisms were unlike those of an ordinary citizen. I believed her to be something entirely else when I met her gaze.
The more I said the less I knew. She was alluring. What notion of nothing did I speak of? Something that felt like desire burned in the depths of my gut. I wanted to believe that it was not by my own doing, but I did not stop. I could not stop.
This and this and this, I said. This and this and that. I asked her about where she had heard me from. Was it the merchant and his apprentices? They traded fragrant fruit with explosive flavor and thin skin. The jade master? He once offered me his best harvested gem.
I knew everyone quite well, so I was no stranger to such stories. Some folk were even bold enough to tell me directly. But I wondered which tellings piqued her interest; I wondered what went on in that mind of hers.
Was it that she liked how people compared me to a dragon? I assumed that she wanted me for labor, so she needed someone strong. Perhaps it was this one maid’s tale that children liked retelling, though I don’t know the appeal of being portrayed as a swash-buckling mermaid. I think I hoped that she’d overheard a romantic’s spiel. Maybe she wanted me (for my smile).
There was a pause as she waited to give her answer when my rambling stopped. Silence gave way to thought, and my eyes drifted to my surroundings.
I remember that the walls were hung with tapestries and fine art. It was as much a shame as it was an honor to witness it.
My attention returned to her when she shifted in her seat, legs crossed. Expectant, I awaited the parting of her lips, the utterance of a response.
Nothing came immediately—she just smiled, a glint of mischief in her eyes—and I felt my face flush. She seemed to delight in my embarrassment, for she prodded more.
I find you are a woman of many extremities, Crux Fleet Captain Beidou, she said. First you claim to want nothing from me, and now this. She placed both elbows on her desk and leaned in. I swallowed thickly at the sight of her.
Is my answer so important to you, that you would put it adjacent to “anything?”
She might as well have pressed my skin into cherry wine.
Tumblr media
Our relationship got more complex, from there.
Feelings were slow to boil, but we both knew what we wanted. Through the months we’d hint at it, either too shy or too unwilling to commit fully—sometimes it was a mix of both. We still wanted our freedom, so we kept it at child’s play.
Of course it wasn’t enough, as more time slipped through our fingers. We were listless.
A heightened sense of tension had already grown between us, told in full by the lingering glances thrown so carelessly at one another, the unnecessary chess matches, the silly requests she’d mail me so I would stay at her office for a bit longer.
She kept me close; I kept her closer.
It worked like this for a while. We were both content with it, dangling our feet off of the cliff of possibility. I felt like a child around her. The memory of young love and idealistic crushes stricken with naivete became a close friend to me once more.
More months flew by, and then the push-pull of whatever we had shot upwards, smashing through its glass ceiling during Lantern Rite.
Sometimes I still think back to the day—in the pagoda at the heart of Liyue, our hands resting on the railing, just close enough so that the tips of our fingers touched. It was there where she whispered her secrets to me, where she laughed when I responded with foolish sailing stories, where she regarded me as if I was the finest treasure in all of Teyvat. My eyes shined so passionately then, teary from reminiscence, alive with all the love in the world centered on one thing.
Perhaps our attention was somewhere else other than the thin veil my tales provided. She asked me what was so special about the moon, gesturing to it with a pale hand. I answered simply. It reflects the sun, I’d said. I knew it was nonsense, I didn’t need the quirk of her brow to tell me that.
I think I just wanted to get the conversation over with—admittedly, I don’t remember much of it.
But Polaris sat on her shoulder, and Venus laid just beyond her white hair. Her dress shimmered with moonshine and blended into the background. Smoke curled from her lips when she exhaled after a drag from her pipe.
I watched her, her figure outlined by the stars.
She asked me again, what was so special about the moon. A similar reply came from my lungs, and I still stared at her. Ningguang trusted me too much—she relented after this time.
Following that night she had to have thought I adored everything because of the sun.
In reality, I just liked the way she looked in the moonlight.

Somewhere along the line we (inevitably) went from business partners to girlfriends.
The details are blurred, but in the end we just realized we wanted similar things from the transaction—if it could even be called that, anymore. We’d already crossed the fine line between a trade and a relationship when I touched my lips to hers.
Gods, I’ll never forget the way she pulled me in, the softness of her skin. She slung her arms on my shoulders, eager to receive me when I wanted more, kissed her harder. It was her way of saying thank you, happy to follow when I took the leap to bridge the gap between us.
But I digress. I have no need for a fanciful description—we’re resting side-by-side now, in each other’s arms. What more could I ever want?
She’s leaning on the curve of my bicep, ungloved fingers curled around a scarred forearm. White hair spills endlessly down the length of my body, such locks undone in the privacy of trusted company. Parts of it mingle with black tresses, a small braid conveniently formed right where the bend of her elbow begins.
The edges of my lips curl upwards when she shifts closer, an ear on my chest, her limbs looped around me, tangled with my own. Warmth blossoms in my stomach. It wasn’t carnal in any way, my desire—I want nothing more than to just hold her, feel her.
In this, I recognize how the weight of her rises and falls with every slow breath I take. Her heart beats metronomically with mine, this steady rhythm that falls out of line at some parts, then rejoins at others. I wonder if she can hear me, my thoughts—she pushes further into me, like a child seeking warmth.
I wonder if that is what we are right now—children.
My smile falters for a moment when I spot the smeared makeup underneath her eyes. Splotches of unkind darkness lie right below, bags of toil and work carried in their existence. I want to ask, to abate the itch at the back of my throat that grows like wildfire.
Maybe I don’t know who Lady Ningguang really is. I don’t move, I don’t dare to. The only reaction the notion elicits is the furrowing of my brow. Did I always assume I knew her?
Does she know me?
A curious fellow, Zhongli, told me of you when I consulted him. He said you proved your loyalty to the Liyuean people through your efforts. I found that I was in need of a figure like you.
Perhaps.
But for once I do not want to be simple, easily sated—I feel selfish. But I pretend I do not, for her sake.
My grip tightens around her shoulders.
Ignorance is a kind of mercy the gods give us.

I follow my routine in the days after. It’s the last bit of normalcy I seem to have other than my occupation, so I relish my time.
Ningguang and I sit quietly by a crackling fire, blankets twisting around us. She’d been gone for most of the day so the burning wood is clean, ample pine just set aflame, quick to blacken. Embers jump and burst in anticipation of decay with an eagerness I don’t believe I could have emulated.
Minutes blow by, easy, until we’re left tired of staring at the simple fashion in which the fire flickers. It’s dimmer, now, fed by tired charcoal and unspiked by young logs.
Ningguang sighs with a soft rise of her shoulders and a slow breath, then peels the blankets off of both of us.
My throat tightens.
The absence of the cover reveals the thin satin dressage she hadn’t previously been in. When I greeted her, when we had slipped under the covers together, she wore a robe.
That article had been shucked off with our sheets—a loosely worn nightdress took its place, hanging far from her collarbone, barely covering the surface of her torso, leaving even less room for imagination below.
I watch her hands grip the blankets. Long and slender digits press the material, neatly manicured with a special sheen to her nails. Golden rings shine at the base of her fingers, one embellished with the symbol of the Liyue Qixing.
I watch her, next. There is not enough time to take in everything.
My breath hitches when her gaze meets mine.
The lady in gold hums into the silken comforter, face half-buried in the fabric, and looks at me with a mischievous glint in her ruby eyes. I swallow slowly; I ask for confirmation.
She blinks—the light in her eyes changes. I dare to inch closer when she beckons me forward with that one look.
There is no time for hesitancy—time slips through the gaps of my fingers as I sink deeper into the bed. Her hands come up, tuliping into two stems that caress each side of my face, petal-light on my cheeks. I do not protest when she lifts my eyepatch. She touches the spot underneath with her lips first and I tremble at her softness.
Then it’s a gentle swipe of her tongue on her bottom lip that sends me reeling. She tells me her affection, our fingers now intertwined; she laughs into the crook of my shoulder at my expression; she traces all my scars and meets every one of them with a kiss and a look of sorrow.
She swallows me entirely, as if I were the last bit of light in Liyue. Her hands travel up and down my sides, daring to touch me, to love me—electricity crackles in the wake of her fingers but she doesn’t care. I tremble in her hold as the warmth of her throat pours into mine, mouths open in fervor.
It all seems so different every time we do this together. The same motions repeat again and again yet I still find myself craving more as if it was something new. A hunger burns in my gut. She tastes like dark plum and lemongrass. She smells like the sweetness of summer.
I hold her, take her into the bend of my arms—it is all I can do. Her heart thrums against mine and I feel alive. She gasps into the air when I kiss the column of her neck, gripping tight onto my shoulders. I’ve memorized her every crater and dip, I know where to grip so that she doesn’t slip from my grasp. The sensation of salt on my tongue is maddening.
The rest of the evening blurs into a stream of passion. It flows like smoke through us, supple, letting. Her skin slides against mine as we give into one another. Something excites me about getting to see her like this—vulnerable, yet willing. I would always know her white locks, like silk as they pool in my hands, her crimson irises, burning with the will of Morax, her tenderness, what physicality that I loved dearly.
But the fire in my belly lights alive when I see her in her fullest. It’s the way her nails dig into my flesh, when she breathes words that sound like she’s calling me. Her lips crush my calluses under sweet nothings and I am reborn. She drowns my mortality in amber, the thickness of geode barely enough to contain it.
I wish to set myself on fire by the burning of her gut, by the oil of her skin.
In the morning, we have no regrets. Though our faces are puffy and the room has a strange air to it, we giggle and laugh like little girls anyways. Is that what we are? I ask myself this at the moment.
I know that I could be whatever she wants me to be.
When I go to look at her, she tells me that all she wants me to be is nothing more than myself. It is enough for her, so it is enough for me.
We stay like this for a little longer, beautiful and in love.

Weeks pass like a clap of thunder and suddenly we are thrown into the stark winter.
Liyue gets snow for the first time in three years. The air is bitingly cold—frost nips at my nose whenever the wind is too harsh. A forever-red makes a home on the surface of my knees, the outside edges of my elbows, the tops of my shoulders. My skin loses its tan, drained of all reminder of sun, cast into white in the new-scrubbed atmosphere.
The look of scarred flesh on such a pale background is unfamiliar, still, to me. It doesn’t prickle when I touch it, nerve endings having been shattered ages ago. My fingers push craters in my skin, milk velvet against worn edges, nails brushing past lines of blisters, giving.
Some semblance of discomfort boils in my stomach when I realize I don’t recognize this outlaid organ as my own.
Luckily, the breeze distracts me from the notion, whistling in the empty air. Scents of the bay, muddy and stale, flush against my face, a crash of the slushy tide echoing in the background.
The salt of the ocean tastes more acrid in this weather.
Tumblr media
Months come, months go, and the world still spins. Celestia plunges Liyue into spring, then the cusp of summer. The breeze turns crisper, the harbor teems with new life. Rigid waves crash along the shoreline, gleaming blue shells dotting the coast; merchants, nurtured by the dormancy the coldness brought, flock to the harbor in search of prospective business.
In delegation of said business, I find myself spending more and more time on the waters. The increased commerce has been doing me well, having regained a natural tan and exposure to newer faces in the area. Though the occupation has significantly lessened the amount of time I spend with Ningguang, it’s to be expected by both of our ends—a woman such as she wouldn’t forget the increase in revenue during this time of year.
Despite our lack of presence, I still have reason to believe that we’re making it work. Yes, we’re making it work. We have chess meetings every other evening, no shared bedroom this time, but lantern-lit dinners every two weeks during the afterhours of Liyue Harbor. Sometimes she’s late, the backs of her ankles red from running in three-inch heels from her office to our spot, but I wait.
I’d wait however long it takes for her to arrive.
Tumblr media
If you’d told me that I would end up like this years ago, I would have laughed.
The sound would have shook my very bones, how deeply I believed I would stand to gain nothing more complicated than the tasks Lady Ningguang sent to me. My self, younger by a few ages, had no intention of soiling the relationship we had. Business was business and I thought I could best my curiosity.
Now, admiring the way the golden light frames her features, I think I’d have been a fool.
There was never a moment in which I didn’t love her. To deny myself that in the pursuit of formality was unbecoming.
We both had dreams, in engaging with one another. Hers was simple, I imagined, despite not knowing what it was. Perhaps it was reflected in the way she took upon the subject of us.
“Is it a choice to love me?” My attention snaps upwards at the sudden sound of her voice. “Or do you simply do it out of necessity?” I can never tell what she’s thinking upon receiving my response, even when I change it on some occasions.
“Of course it’s out of necessity,” is what I say this time. She gives a little giggle and squeezes my hand tighter, so I think I made the right decision. “I tend to follow my heart more than my mind.” This comment earns a kiss to my forehead, and I think that maybe I would like to hear her reason for doing so.
Her dream is an enigma, but I would go after it anywhere if it means being with her a little while longer.
Ningguang’s eyes are on me now. Impenetrable ruby. But I don’t look at her, lasered-in on her gold rings.
She doesn’t say anything until I’m forced to raise my gaze.
“Would you like one?”
Tumblr media
“You know, you’ve never really told me how you got all this.”
It’s seven on a Sunday night and we’re right next to each other on the shaded terrace of the Jade Palace. Ningguang’s head tilts in curiosity, the pair of glasses atop it shifting a little from the movement.
“What do you mean?”
I gesture around us. “Like the whole… place and stuff. Paintings and jewelry, I guess. I’ve always been wondering.”
She huffs, seemingly amused at the comment. “A woman has her ways,” she replies, taking her specs out of her hair to lay them on the bridge of her nose. “Within the web of artisans, I have my fair share of connections.”
“That’s not what I mean,” I snort lightheartedly. “C’mon, Guang. I’ve always been wondering about your rise to fame. What’s the big secret?”
The air changes, suddenly—there’s a redness lingering somewhere in the atmosphere. Something that doesn’t wish to be touched. Dusk greets us with its familiar half-sun and leaky horizon, blurry darkness giving way to ribbons of crimson.
Pandora’s box opens.
“I’d rather not talk about it, Doudou,” she replies sheepishly, looking away. Something moves in the corner of my eye but I pay it no attention.
Some feeling churns in my stomach. Is it guilt? “That’s okay,” I say. My insides twist even more. “Sorry for asking.” Or is it irritation?
I press a soft peck to her cheek to get her to look at me again. She does, smiles softly, and touches her lips to mine. It doesn’t help the swirling in my gut.
The day is July 13th and it has been 1264 days since our first Lantern Rite together.
Then what’s your favorite color? I want to ask. Easier question—surely she’d be able to answer that if not the previous. Doubt burns like acid in my core amongst the other emotions. My hands flex, once, twice, and I think about whether she’d respond with purple or yellow.
That’s okay.
It’s the question of the night why I admitted that it all was alright despite thoroughly believing the latter.
Tumblr media
It doesn’t take long for the crew to catch on to the fact that something’s wrong. I can hear the whispers of concern, but barely pay them any attention. I’ve been discontent more often than not, and it’s starting to affect the way I usually go about my days. Jobs were always well done—it’s hard to think out in action in the waters—but my brows knit together when my soles hit the land.
“Captain Beidou!” Furong exclaims. She slings an arm around my shoulders. “How about a drink? We did pretty good out there today, no?” The other sailors nod eagerly. I can’t bring myself to smile at her attempt to cheer me up.
“Yeah! Only the best for our Dragon King!”
The phrase makes the crease near my eye deepen. I never knew why I had so many epitheticals. Or rather, I was now beginning to find them difficult to manage.
Where had my simpleness gone? Years ago were the hours in which I had no memory of ever feeling so uncomfortable because I didn't want to be anything more than myself. The air was always lax, easy to breathe in, with no pressure to bear it down.
Now I question who I am. And it always feels worse when I remember that everything seems to come back to Ningguang. What brought her closer to me? Prevented her from keeping away, maintaining her pace as a governess to a citizen?
My boots connect with the ground, heavy, as we navigate to the nearest pub, with Huixing promising the prospect of a round on him. Everyone cheers—including me, but it’s empty, somehow.
We arrive, sit, and drink. Shandies are spread around, rims fresh with curt lemon.
Conversation is quick to strike up, a natural bud of flame kindled by friendship. Talk of adventure, treasure, family, and friends is alive with the energy of the group. Sea Drake goes on a long tangent about a supposed siren sighting and we roll our eyes and nod; Mora-Grubber discloses information about an ancient book series they’ve taken from a smuggler.
The topic jumps from person to person—everyone’s dying to get their story in. Perhaps I should have expected that, in the end, attention would fall on the one person who wished not to reveal anything about their occupations.
Juza’s peering from the end of the table at me. “Captain Beidou, is everything okay?” he asks. “You’ve been awfully quiet tonight.”
“Ah, you know sometimes work gets us a little worse for wear,” I mumble, attempting a smile. “Happens to the best of us.”
Silence. Then, “Well, you know you can trust us, right? We’re here for ya. We’ve got your back through everything.”
I can feel the mood die, writhing as its liveliness sputters out like an old, creaking mast. “Really?”
“Really.”
“Well—” My throat tightens. For a moment, I actually considered saying it all. “—my… my cat died yesterday. I loved her a lot. She meant the world to me.”
Are you fucking serious? A cat? Archons, you are pathetic.
“Aw, I’m so sorry,” Furong gasps, hands cupped over her mouth. “Losing a pet is hard, I really get the feeling.”
“I’m sorry for your loss, Captain Beidou. What was her name?”
“... Light.” I wince. You’re digging yourself a deeper hole right now, I hope you know that.
“A beautiful name for a beautiful cat.” My crew give each other nods of sympathy. “Well, let’s raise a toast to honor Captain Beidou’s late cat. I bet she was a soldier, just like her mother.”
I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. “To Light.” I lie, my drink in the air. “To the best cat of all of us.” The alcohol burns in my throat as I chug it down.
I can’t do this to them.
Soon, the crew busies themselves with other matters, fully believing that my strife had come to an end. I watch as the bubbles in my alcohol fizz out as the night rolls on.
Somewhere along the line my hand comes up, feels the necklace with a golden ring Ningguang gave me after my “sudden interest in hers” hung on it. It glitters with opulence in the light, the gem in the middle the same color as her irises.
I can’t do this to myself.
_____
There’s that familiar roundness again, coming back to haunt the pads of my fingers when Ningguang walks to the kitchen island. It’s smooth, expertly crafted, fine and sheen. The only bump comes when I loop to its insides, thumb above the chain it hangs by. Even then I know, by the symmetry of its hoops, what was demanded of its maker.
It feels like a promise, somehow.
“What do you think of your necklace?” The question comes suddenly, catches me by surprise. My eyes light up and flicker to Ningguang’s—they peer over a handleless tea cup as she drinks quietly.
I try to smile. “It reminds me of you.” I love it, I want to say next, but I bite my tongue. I have to stop lying.
“Well that’s good.” The slightest incline of her chin. Then she swallows and sets her cup down. “I was thinking that a ring worn on your finger might obstruct your duties. I see you use your hands a lot—didn’t want it to dig into anywhere and leave a bruise.”
“Thank you,” I hum, “that’s thoughtful.”
She chuckles and makes her way back to me. “I hope it was.” A small pause. “Also, I saw you eyeing a certain jade ship’s plate yesterday—”
“No. No, no, no.” It’s a protest, half-playful, half-serious. “You’ve already gotten me plenty of gifts, Guangguang. I know your pockets run deep, but I don’t need you to buy me that jade plate.”
“Why?” she asks, frowning. “I can get you it. I’m able to. Why shouldn’t I?” At this, I take her by the hand and press a kiss to her knuckles.
“I promise I can manage myself.”
“But—”
“No ‘buts.’ I got this. I could probably trade all the gifts you’ve gotten me for all of Sumeru and half of Snezhnaya. Probably a good chunk of Mondstadtian land, too.”
She considers the thought for a moment, then smiles. “Alright.” I return the expression, and let go of her fingers. Our digits come to a rest atop the counter, though some are less content than others—a faint scratching can be heard from my right.
One look down, and I can see, in plain view, the scraping of one of Ningguang’s claws on the marble. The thought of not being able to provide brings her a sense of urgency, it seems.
I don’t wish for her to have to so discreetly suffer like this. But I hesitate upon recognizing the other alternative—there is only one thing she has yet to give me, but I’m sure it will spell the end of what we have now. For that reason I’ve been avoiding it for the last few days, keeping myself from confrontation.
Sssskt, shhhr, sssskt, shhhr, sssskt, shhhr. The sound persists. I imagine the steadiness of metal underneath my hands, what it must be like to feel it always, stable between my fingers, ever-present; I remember the gleam of that ruby-red gem, think about the forever contrast of it against the rough darkness of my skin.
Sssskt, shhhr, sssskt, shhhr, sssskt, shhhr. A tightness wraps around my throat in seconds. I want this. I want this. My hand clenches easily, having already memorized the weight, texture, and shape of the article that hangs by my throat. The nape of my neck numbs, its chain dies—all that exists is the ring.
Sssskt, shhhr, sssskt, shhhr, sssskt, shhhr. Where there’s a promise, there’s a future.
“There… there is something you can do for me, though.” The scratching stops.
Ningguang’s eyes light up—she stares at me like a kid on Christmas day. “Of course,” she says gleefully. “What do you want?”
“I…” I almost falter, almost misspeak. It’s pitiful, as if I hadn’t been quietly dreaming of this day ever since I told myself what was wrong. “Can I ask you a question?”
“Depends on the question,” she muses, “and what answer you’re expecting.” A smile plays on her lips—I think that she thinks it’ll be something harmless.
“Why are you getting me these gifts?”
She blinks. “Is it not customary to give your lover gifts?
“No, it’s just that— I just don’t think it’s… normal to give this much.”
“Is it? Hm. Perhaps my standards are higher material-wise. But if you insist on not receiving presents, I’d be happy to.”
“Guang, it’s not just that.”
“What is it, then?” She lays a hand over mine. “Tell me and I’ll do anything to supply it to you.”
I take a deep breath to save myself from faltering. “Another question, then.” She nods intently. “Why did you bring me into your office those years ago?”
Ningguang raises a brow. “Have I not told you this before? I heard about your feats from the locals on the harbor.”
“That’s not it, is it?”
The whisper blows through us like a torrent. It’s sudden. Chilling. Winter waves at us from the corridor, giggling. The air stills, free of the lax atmosphere it once housed—tension now binds it in coils that threaten to snap and suddenly the room we’re in feels less comforting. Less like a home.
Was it ever a home?
“What do you mean?”
“I mean that the statement isn’t the truth, is it?” I say. I remember the days in which I desperately searched for her in the jewel-toned threads of the carpet, in the blurry reflection of a jade dragon statue while in bitter regard of all those gifted riches strewn across my living quarters. “It’s what you said before. But it’s not— it’s not true.”
“What?” she echoes, in clear confusion. “What isn’t the truth, Beidou? I don’t understand.”
A pregnant pause. “Why did you pursue a further relationship if all you wanted was my services?” It comes faintly, a lick above a whisper. “Is that… is that all I am to you?”
“Beidou, where is this coming from?” She withdraws her hand. Shit. “I thought we were having a good night.”
“Ningguang, I—” I might have said ten thousand things at that moment, overcome by emotion; how I yearned for affection that extended beyond physical intimacy or material wealth; how I longed for her genuine love behind the doors of empty bedrooms, cuddled into comforters that smelled of her; how I wanted to feel like I have not spent these last years wondering whether or not she was truly there because too much of her time was spent on not knowing me. “Ningguang, what do you want out of this relationship?”
“What anyone wants out of a relationship, Beidou. Where is this coming from?”
“You’re not answering my question.”
“You’re not answering mine.”
“If you wanted me for my services alone, why did you become my girlfriend, Ningguang?”
“Your company? Your person? I truly don’t know what you want me to say,” she huffs, standing straight.
I take a few steps back. “I’m not expecting any response, just the truth.”
“Well I’ve told you my truth and it seems it isn’t enough. What is it you want from me?” There’s an edge in her voice, a swipe of sharp amber lodged within her words. “Where are you even going with this?”
“What I’m trying to say is that you can’t start this and act like— act like what we have right now is enough.” My palms are clammy and damp, red and strangely sweaty. Perhaps there was an answer that I was expecting and I just didn’t want to say it.
She’s stumbling over her words. “Well then what do you want, Beidou?” she pleads. “What do you want from this? I can— I can give you—” The confusion on her face is imminent, but I push forward, frustration pressing on my chest like a hot iron.
“I don’t want any material!” I shout. “I have never wanted anything like gold or silver or jewels, Ningguang!”
“Well then what do you want?” The noise she makes is like something breaking. “Tell me! Tell me so I can give it to you!”
In my frenzy I hadn’t realized the state we’ve inhabited. We’re both shaking, hair sticking to our necks with the sweat that drips in beads down our skin. The room is hot, tight with tension and a feeling I never wanted to feel again—it’s unbearable. And yet somehow I can ignore it.
Archons bless.
“All I’ve ever wanted was you!”
Silence—the only sounds, our slight pants and thick swallows. We let the break hang like cobwebs.
Then, she murmurs, “Do you not have me already?”
I don’t know what to say; I start to wonder why we’re even fighting in the first place. The words are present, in the back of my throat, but some spark of will, a flicker of grief, flushes it down. How long had we played at this with one another? Years, precious time, squandered, spent in the arms of a stranger. I’d been so foolish, then; I am still so foolish.
“Do I have you?” It is a question to myself. She knows. “Do I have you?”
Ningguang responds anyway, “Yes, yes you have me Beidou.” It comes as a gasp, something desperate that I can feel radiating off her in waves. Guilt seeps into my nerves.
I can’t look at her. “Tell me you know what my favorite color is, Ningguang. Tell me.” Silence sounds out louder than it ever has before. The dissonance gives way to the memory of her flushed cheeks and thin, rosy lips—I’d never seen them cracked and creased with bitterness, but I hate that I could imagine it.
“Tell me you know where my favorite place to sail is, or where I like to go when I’m bored.” There are no tears that I can muster. Only a face of disappointment. “Tell me you know who I am, other than the ‘help,’ or the ‘Dragon King,’ or the ‘Pirate Captain of the Crux Fleet Crew.’”
There are still so many things I want to say, scraping the edges of my larynx. How could she be so naive? I want to condemn her for not knowing what she’d gotten into when engaging with me, for so foolishly letting herself come in contact with someone that wanted more than she could give—someone that wanted her to take.
Never once have I wanted to shout like this.
But I can’t. I don’t. I just stand and stare, dry-mouthed, at her gossamer dress and her hands, bright ivory and adorned with gold. They’re red on the insides from being clenched, with deep, crescent-shaped welts on her palms.
Ningguang takes my silence as an opportunity in fervor. “You could have said something,” she breathes, voice quaking. “And don’t you dare say that I have not been as invested in this as you have. I just don’t know how to love like you, Beidou.”
Another wave of quiet. She sucks in her bottom lip and breathes in deep. “I don’t know how to love like you. But I’m not going to apologize for that. Affection in your language isn’t universal. And how am I supposed to know anything if you don’t tell me? I can’t read minds. You accepted my gifts so I assumed— I assumed that you liked them. That you liked me enough.”
Despair strikes my gut and plunges it to my feet. “Ningguang, I never said I didn’t like you.”
“Well it seems now that I… that somehow I didn’t like you enough.” Ningguang laughs and it’s more of a gasp for air. “I don’t know how to spend affection, I admit it. I never had any to spare until I met you. I did hear about you in the harbor. Zhongli-xiansheng did tell me about you—this strong Crux Fleet Captain who took out dragons—and I wondered why you still lingered on the shores. I employed you because of your prowess and your will, but I wondered why you were still here when you could’ve been chasing something greater.”
All the words that swirled in the back of my throat are suddenly gone; the frustration has forfeited my core, fleeing the emptiness. Now instead of trying to hold something back, I am left instead with entirely nothing.
Ningguang pales, her knuckles white. “You are as much of an enigma to me as I am to you, Beidou,” she says. “And you say that I should tell you that I know who you are. But if even you can’t answer that question, then how am I supposed to?” Shame embodies every word of the phrase and it feeds the crawling guilt inside of me.
Then we’re quiet again—we let the silence sweep over us like a riptide, our tongues dry and eyelids heavy. Ningguang’s words run through my mind, unrelenting.
I did hear about you in the harbor. Zhongli-xiansheng did tell me about you—this strong Crux Fleet Captain who took out dragons—and I wondered why you still lingered on the shores.
It is a miracle that there is no tale of Captain Beidou acting like a child.
The thought numbs me. I don’t like this feeling, this affliction. My gaze drags upwards to fight the exhaustion that riddles my limbs. I get a glimpse of the collar of the evening dress Ningguang wears tonight, gold lace and a curve just short of her chest, and now it’s her neck, her jaw, her cheek, stained with emotion. I look upwards still.
Something shifts in me, then, some semblance of rationale trickling into the cracks in my resolve.
“Why are we fighting?”
Is it the way her lips curve downwards, the manner in which she furrows her eyebrows? Maybe it is the fact that I’d never witnessed displeasure so imminently plastered on her features, the agony of her flushed cheeks, those remorseful eyes. Ningguang had always kept her appearance in order, tidy even in informal events. There was always an air of refinement, an intricate delicacy about her.
But that had long been washed away from the moment she told me she was mine and I denied her. I ask myself now, what exactly it was that I wanted from her.
“I don’t know.”
Ningguang had never known the life which I expected of her—she’d never known the kind of living in which she was free to take. Too much of her person was spent giving to her friends, to associates, to her people. It was a part of her, just as her hair was, or her moontouched skin.
And we both wanted the same thing from this—to be loved—the only difference being that she would not let herself be.
Tears edge at the corners of my eye. “I’m sorry.” My throat closes, fills with the beginnings of a sob. “I’m sorry, Ningguang.”
At this, she steps closer to me, gingerly, saying nothing, taking in the air closest to me. The curve of her undereye and the crinkle that connects her lids deepens. Some shine returns to her iris. She moves in, still, her dress blowing lightly by her ankles.
We blend together like steady hands pushing into the earth.
She cups my cheek with her palm and closes her eyes. I shift my head to touch my lips with the base of it and breathe in her faded perfume. It smells like grace. My hand finds hers as she rubs over the thick fabric of my eyepatch with a thumb.
“Perhaps I should have known.” she whispers.
“You didn’t need to.” Words bubble up and out from the thickness of my throat. It’s natural, freeing. “I shouldn’t have acted so rashly. I was being selfish and stupid and idiotic—we could have talked.”
“We should have.” There’s a sadness to her smile she wears when she looks at me. “We can do it now, if you’d like.”
I swallow thickly, allow for the silence to seep into us. “Yeah.”
“Alright.”
She kisses the tip of my nose then guides me to the nearest couch. Down we sit, and there we think—I have no idea if she’s already got her thoughts sorted, but she gives me time. When I’m done ruminating, I leave five minutes just in case she needs it.
“Can I talk?” I finally ask, uncertainty bleeding through every syllable. Ningguang nods with an earnest look, stance open and turned towards me, hands folded neatly in her lap. A half-smile curves my lips upwards.
“Look, I know I already said this, but I’m— I’m sorry for the way I acted. I don’t ever want you to feel like I’m too demanding or brash or impatient. I was… I was acting out of impulse. There’s no excuse for it and I apologize.”
Ningguang hums. Her eyes study my face with such focus, flitting here and there, down the tired lines that streak my cheeks, curving with the sag of my under eye. She must’ve come across something that said I wasn’t done just yet—she’s waiting, silent, understanding, soft.
Then I speak my part for a while, rambling, asking her questions, to which she responds patiently to. The tension in the air eases, I feel the tears abate, and wonder why we didn’t do this earlier.
When I finish, she starts, voice level. She tells me little things about her, the reason why she never opened up, the lingering shame that lasted when confronted about her past, that same shame she felt when she thought I would resent her for it. The more she goes, the more things I notice about her—the way she twists her rings around her fingers when she’s nervous, the quirk of her brow in moments of tenseness, how tightly she holds herself, guarded, though she’s spilling all the secrets of her little, compacted world.
It takes time, like things do. She pauses sometimes, unsure, and I can only put my hand on her back for reassurance. The lines in her forehead deepen like she’s searching for something. Her grip on her arm tightens, tips of her fingers flushed yellow, palms red. Tears come slowly, leaking out, dripping down, lines etched in the fine divots of her features.
I don’t stop them.
She grasps the empty air like there’s something to hold, wearing an expression of longing as she does. I fill the gap with what I can, scarred fingers and bound muscle, trying not to think about what goes on inside that head of hers.
I never wanted to see vulnerability alive in her eyes again, pupils blown out in fright.
The rest of the night rolls through us without trouble. We talk until our throats run dry and succumb to slumber when the conversation naturally comes to a close.
When she pulls me to bed, our fingers intertwined, this is perhaps a mark of the first peaceful night for both of us in a long time.
