Medical/optometry-related discussion under the cut.
I can't sleep tonight thinking about a patient. They came to see me recently for poor vision in one eye, thinking they just needed glasses, and it turned out they have severe glaucoma that's made one eye effectively blind and has put the other eye very, very close. They hadn't had an eye exam since at least 2015 and likely earlier than that, because they'd seen well all their life except for needing reading glasses and didn't have any ocular discomfort, and they assumed that meant their eyes were healthy.
Now, all of a sudden, we're facing a real possibility of irreversible total blindness. The eyedrop I put this person on didn't have nearly the effectiveness I'd hoped, and when we got the results of the visual field test at this week's follow-up it was much worse than I'd expected. Instead of having a few months to play with medications and treatment options and taking our time finding the right regimen best-suited for this patient's schedule and insurance and preferences, we're looking down the barrel of needing major surgery ASAP to get the pressure back into a safe range, and even still, given how long they've likely been sitting on this high pressure, they may still lose some of their little remaining vision. It's a horrible situation for this relatively young person (less than 70 years old) and I can't stop thinking about how completely avoidable this whole situation was.
I hate these apps that keep popping up advertising how they can give you a prescription at home. I hate them. Good vision has nothing to do with healthy eyes (in fact, people with good natural vision are often some of my worst patients because they don't need to get glasses and they forget about me), and this is a perfect case of a person who saw great right up until the moment they went blind from a condition we could have stopped in its tracks two, three, five, eight years ago. I don't know this person's life story; I don't know what major life events or struggles they were going through over the last decade that kept them from coming in. I'm sure there were reasons that seemed good at the time. I just know that by the time they came to me for help it was too late for me to do anything meaningful at all, and I get a knot in the pit of my stomach every time I think about the test results. It's crushing for the patient and for me, absolutely crushing.
Glaucoma is so treatable these days, and so easy to catch with the right testing, but it requires people to get that testing in an office with the equipment to test it. It has basically no symptoms until the very end stages of the disease--no pain, no sense of pressure, no visual changes, no redness, no blurry vision, no anything until the last possible moment. The only way to pick it up is to take an external measurement of the pressure inside the eye. But it's slow! It's a slow disease that takes years--sometimes decades!--to do real damage, and if patients are getting regular eye care during this time we can catch it and stop it! Apps will never be able to do this. Never, and this casual acceptance of at-home vision checks replacing actual health care, this uninformed conflation of thinking good vision means good eye health, of letting the desire for convenient online glasses shopping overrule the importance of getting dilated, terrifies me.
This patient didn't use apps, didn't get glasses online. But they made the same mistake that people who do use these apps make, which is that they assume seeing well means that nothing is wrong with their eyes. It breaks my heart that I'm going to be having these conversations more and more with patients who get these slow, preventable diseases because an app got them seeing well out of their glasses, and they used that instead of a dilated eye exam to decide they were in good shape.
I don't really know where I'm going with all this. I've just been thinking about it constantly since the patient's most recent visit, and I'm worrying about kids growing up with everything so accessible online that they forget some things--important things--still require in-person human touch. It's just--stuff like this doesn't have to happen. So many diseases like glaucoma take so long to show up, and there are so many ways to intervene and stop progression before the patient loses an iota of vision, and I just--I want to be having those conversations instead, where I'm telling people that it's great we caught something early and now with treatment they should be in good shape for the rest of their lives. I want to do that instead of what I had to do this week, which was tell this patient that this vision was never coming back, and then have nothing, nothing, nothing I could do to help besides sit with them in their pain and watch them go through all the horrible stages of new grief and say I'm so sorry, hopefully the surgery will preserve everything you have left, hopefully, I'm so sorry.
I don't know how to make that happen, though, that shift. Advocation and education, I guess, which is what they're always harping on at continuing education courses, but those are big things, sweeping things, and I work best in the one-on-one, in the personal. I don't know. It's just a hard thing. A hard day, I guess.

Today was a very “I have to rest or else” kind of day.
Slept till 3pm. Barely remember much. But woke up bcs the sun was shining in my face and I was dying of heat.
Went to the corner store to get ice cream and cold drinks.
Died of heat 3 times. I thought it’s not that hot anymore at 4pm but nah was proven wrong.
Since then I am chilling again in bed trying to rest.
My left eye is swollen and itchy. Need to get some eyedrops asap.

My dog needs enucleation. That means eyeball removal. He's got glaucoma and dry eye in his left eye, and the eyedrops are expensive and don't always keep his eye at a normal size.
It keeps swelling up and causing him massive pain. I want my best friend not to be in pain anymore. He's been going through this for a year now and that's too long. My attachment issues with his eyeball remaining inside his head are causing him to be in pain and his quality of life blows hard. (It doesn't work; he can't see with it.)
The vet clinic we've been using since moved here has quoted me an estimate of $3000+ for ONE EYE. I have $450 so far saved. ATM I'm looking into a loan company because otherwise, it'll come down to me eating one meal a day, every second day, for the next 4 months in order to pay for it. This clinic doesn't do payment plans.
I'm sort of in a state of shock rn. Gotta do some figuring on where I can get the money so I can schedule the appt because he needs it asap.

Normalcy of the Pretty Posse
Chapter 1
Word Count: 2494
Pairing: reader x ?????
Genre: like 90% fluff, 10% stupid jokes and bad humor
Description: Stupid Jeongguk and his cute sweaters and pretty posse of hyungs.
(Disclaimer: This will probably have some typos. I started writing this instead of doing some Statistics homework and spent so long on it that I have zero time to edit. Sorry~)

masterlist
There was no game plan. There never really had been, at least not for me. Making it past 16 was something I had never foreseen, never imagined I could do. And now, here I am, alone in a country in a university far from home with no idea how life is supposed to go. Okay, maybe I’m being pessimistic because I’m not completely alone. I have friends if you count the two idiots who don’t let me drown in takeout boxes on weekends. They’re wonderful, they really are, I promise.
Yoonjin is the sweetest person I’ve ever met no matter how much I want to strangle her into putting herself first. She’s the one who calls me about anything and everything. Don’t tell her that I secretly love that she calls me first when something happens. Chaebin is my right hand gal. My broski. My homegirl. My uh… well she’s great honestly. She’s all bark and no bite with the strongest affiliation for cute things, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. These two are pretty much my whole life other than the impending doom of my failing future that I have chosen to personally personify. Makes it less scary if it's punchable, honestly.
“Are you gonna actually do your work or are you gonna stare at your coffee all day?
Rolling my head to the side, I eye Chaebin with the blankest face I can muster.
“I didn’t ask to be criticized when I asked you to come to the library with me.”
“No, but you did ask me to make sure you finish your paper in time for practice tonight. Yoonjin will cry if you let her go by herself again.” I groan, throwing my head against the cushion of the booth’s chair. She’s right, I know she is. I’ve missed two weeks of dance workshops and Yoonjin, without missing a beat, after every workshop comes knocking on my door teary eyed and sputtering about how she was all alone and lost without me there. Food usually helps soften her up.
“You think she’ll forgive me if I miss just one more week?” Chaebin twitches her eyebrow up as she side eyes me from her computer. I slump even further and push my laptop farther away in favor of laying my head down. “You’re right. She’ll probably accuse me of abandoning her and our friendship if I skip one more time.”
“I’ve literally seen you pump out a 12 page research paper in 3 hours, just go dance or whatever tonight and stress yourself later.”
“Anxiety and Red Bull are a toxic combo, but I’ll have you know that I got a 94 on that paper.” Smiling smugly, I turn my head to look at her. She’s not wearing her glasses today, so it’s hard to tell if she’s glaring at me or blind today. “If I bail, are you gonna be okay by yourself? I can swing by afterwards with Yoonjin, so you don’t have to walk home alone tonight.”
Her glare softens as she shakes her head no before grabbing some eyedrops. Oh. So she is wearing her contacts. “No, I’ll be okay. I came packing.” Her right hand pats her bag before she smirks and continues searching through her syllabus.
I eye her bag warily and half jokingly say, “Please, tell me you don’t have a gun.”
Her face scrunches as she stares at me. “Are you stupid? Why would I have a gun? I meant I have my phone and a taser. Do I look like I know how to shoot a gun?”
I shrug and start packing up my bag. My joints scream and pop from being stationary so long. “I am, do I look like I know how to shoot a gun? You never know Chae, I could be a highly skilled marksman just waiting to take someone out. I might not even be a real college student, just a really good undercover assassin.”
Her nose twitches as she clicks open a few browsers. “You almost cried last night when you saw a stray cat ignore you. I highly doubt you’re killing anyone these days.”
“Animals love me and that one hurt, don’t use my feelings against me. Don’t you remember when you cried because you thought I was ignoring you last year?” Her face dropped as she coughed into her shirt, trying to hide the red splotches. “I was literally sick for three days and you came to my apartment with food because you thought I hated you. What was it you said? Something about not being allowed to hate you if you fed me.”
“We don’t talk about junior year, I was going through it.” Her voice was tight, but I could tell she was amused. “It’s almost 6 o’clock, you should text Yoonjin and tell her that you’re not abandoning her tonight.” She slides my bag towards me and lets me scoot past her out of the booth.
“Yoonjin and I will be by later to walk you back to your apartment around 9:30. Sound good?” My legs wiggle as I try and get a feeling back into them from sitting so long. When I stand there longer than normal, her eyes flash up as she nods and waves her hand at me to leave.

_______________________________________________________________________
“You actually did come.” Yoonjin’s hand reaches out and pinches my arm before she settles back against the wall. “I thought for sure your text was all some weird daydream I had conjured up.”
“Chaebin convinced me that our friendship was on the line if I left you alone at another workshop for the third week in a row.” My bag landed on the ground as I slide down next to Yoonjin. Her hair, newly cut and dyed to a short choppy greyish purple bob, was still something I needed to get used to. Yoonjin had failed her midterm last week and as a result decided that her hair would rejuvenate her life and, thus, her will to study. I still don’t think she’s bought her textbooks for this semester yet, but that’s not my business.
“As she should! It was your idea to start coming to these dance things, and you left me!” Despite her anger, she still turned her smoothie toward me as an offering. “I look like a loose limbed monkey in there. At least with you there, you explain the steps to me.” I choke on the smoothie a little bit, as she crosses her arms.
“Loose limbed monkey? Yoon, you look fine! These workshops are meant for people who don’t have dance experience. It was your idea to try dancing, I just found a place to do it” Her face contorts as she sips on her smoothie again, shaking it to mix it up and get some frustration out.
“It wouldn’t be so bad if people like you or Jeong-fucking-guk didn’t kept coming. It’s not fair to suck and then have to watch you two just like magically do it.” Her head gets thrown back with a thud as she grunts. Immediately I laugh and rub the back of her head in oder to soothe the soon to be ache.
“I can go if you want since you seem to not want me or Jeongguk here apparently.” Her eyes dart over to me in the most non threatening but threatening way possible for someone like her. “Okay, so I’ll stay. Make your mind up Yoonjin, I can’t keep playing these games with you.” I click my tongue against my teeth as she smacks my thigh closest to her. “You said something about Jeongguk coming right? Since when does he come out to these things? I thought he was a dance and choreography minor? Shouldn’t he be with the big dogs or something in like a real class dancing?”
Yoonjin hums, offering me the rest of her smoothie. It’s a green looking health smoothie from a self proclaimed health bar down the street. It’s for sure my favorite, and definitely not her’s, so I take it and nudge her as a thanks. “That’s the thing, I didn’t even know he went to these things. Usually I just hang out with you and everyone else who hides in the back with me, but last week he came up to me and asked if you were still coming.” I raise my eyebrows in surprise and nod for her to continue. “I told him you’ve been busy and he kinda just nodded and shuffled away. He did tell me to tell you to take it easy though.” “Were you ever planning on telling me that a boy approached you about me?”
“I'm telling you now and that’s all that matters. Besides, I thought you swore off men after the mishap freshman year with that one Tinder date.”
Immediately my face heats up, and I grimace at the memory. “We don’t talk about that for a good reason, you brat.” If she’s mad I called her a brat, her smug smile doesn’t show it. I go to open my mouth and further yell at her for bringing up the traumatizing story when a pair of black heavy boots skids to a stop by my stretched out legs.
Okay, so here's the thing about Jeon Jeongguk . He is terrifyingly good looking. So much so that looking at him hurts, like physically hurts. Jeon Jeongguk could punch me in the face and I would say thank you for the attention and bow before passing out. Okay, that’s perhaps way too far but he is attractive and built. God, is he built. And he’s not even an asshole about it! Most guys who exercise thrive on showing off their bodies and flaunting their muscles. Not Jeon Jeongguk , though., Nope! Jeongguk wears sweaters and button ups that make him resemble a Korean version of Mr. Rogers. All smiles and kind eyes with a heart of gold. Men like Jeongguk are the reason I have heart issues and top notch acting skills.
“You’re back!” My eyes blink a few times at Jeongguk before I register that he's looking at and me actually speaking. When I don’t say anything Jeongguk fiddles with the sleeve of his shirt and looks at Yoonjin before letting out a cough. He speaks a little calmer now, more airy and rushed. “Yoonjin said you’ve been busy and I was worried you weren’t gonna come back ‘til next semester. Not that I worried about you or like not not worried about you, but uh…” He sputtered a little and lets out a small huff of air before ruffling his hair back. My lips pressed together as I swing from internally swooning over his cuteness to the attractiveness of him pushing his hair back. “It’s good so see you back. Hobi hyung, says it's good to have some experienced people in the class to encourage and help beginners.”
“Is that why you keep coming too?”
Maybe he doesn’t expect my question or for me answer him at all, but he blinks a little too hard and shyly looks over my shoulder rather than my face. It’s cute and maybe it makes a smile break out on my face. Just maybe though. “Yes! Hobi-hyung asked me to help him since he can’t uh ya know help everyone at once.” He doesn’t sound too sure of himself, but I let it go seeing as this is our first comprehensible conversation.
“That’s sweet of you to help your hyung for free. Does Hoseok-shi think I’m there to do the same? I feel a little bad missing the past two weeks if you’ve been doing it all by yourself.” I frown and pinch my eyebrows a little tighter, looking the direction of the doors. Should I apologize? Yoonjin beside me, I can tell, has grown more and more interested in our conversation as she undoubtedly is texting our group-chat with Chaebin about what's happening. She nudges me to focus when the conversation stalls a little. The nerve of her, I swear.
Jeongguk , getting redder and slightly more panicky, shakes his head no a little too roughly. His hair looks a little messed up, and I nearly squeal with the need to fix the adorable mess that he is right now. Outside, however, I just smile softly and encourage him to explain. “Hobi-hyung and I are okay, you’re just like an added bonus to class cause you know you obvious have some experience with your technic and seem to pick up the dances quickly.” It’s a little rushed, but I think I make out everything he’s saying.
“Are you trying to say I’m a good dancer Jeongguk ?” It’s meant to be lighthearted and playful, but Jeongguk physically widens his eyes and looks everywhere, but in my direction for a few seconds before he stops trying to voice anything out just nods. My hands clasp in my lap as a I suppress a smile and will the flush to disappear from my cheeks. “Thanks, you dance really well too. I can see why you’re studying dance.”
Jeongguk whispers the faintest, “Thank you,” before shoving his thumb in the direction of the door indicating that he’s gonna help them set up for the workshop. I wave goodbye and watch as he does the same and dashes behind the door. Now that he’s gone, I can breathe a little easier. That was probably the weirdest experience I’ve had today, or this week for that matter. Pretty people don’t just go up to me and talk, let alone me of all people. And when I say pretty people, I mean pretty people like Jeongguk and his pretty posse of friends.  Jeongguk and his hyungs are just uncommonly so pretty and somehow together all the time. Even now Jeongguk is inside with Jung Hoseok, a graduate student who hosts the beginner dance workshops on Thursday. The fact that  Jeongguk even talked to me, or asked about me last is enough to twist my insides a little. Normal people talk to people all of the time, but  Jeongguk was not normal and his hyungs are not normal. I mean they are, but they project this ethereal aura that just intimidates everyone. So, why for the love of God was Jeon Jeongguk just talking to me?
“Are we gonna talk about what just happened or are you gonna keep staring at the door?”
“Shut up, I'm trying to process everything.”

The Zooter’s Guide to Getting Zooted
Just wanted to remind everybody that smokes to do it ✨safely✨. As Lord of the Zoots its my job to ensure that everyone woking smeed is being safe about it! So here’s my guide to ✨safe meditation✨based off my own experiences :)
Warnings: mentions of drug use (Marijuana), I am not a doctor or an expert, I’m just a stoner
KNOW YOUR LIMITS.
Take care of your body and your lungs, if youre asthmatic no judgement here but make sure you take them inhalers and shit. Also i recommend boiling orange peels and ginger and inhaling the steam as a mini lung detox/steam therapy. It also helps if youre congested
Practice safe detoxing! Its important to keep your body healthy when you’re a ✨pothead✨. I detox a few times a week by making this green juice in the morning and by doing the steam therapy.
Dont smoke with strangers OR people you arnt comfortable with, this can lead to a panicky high and also its just not safe babes
If you think someone around you is way too high cut them off, we look out for eachother around these parts. And if you know youre going past your limit slow tf down.
Never go smoke without water or something to drink (preferably not alcohol unless you want to get crossed, thats your business).
I recommend investing in a CBD pen! You don’t need a weed card to buy cbd products. If youre having a strong high/bad high the cbd can help to mediate the thc in your system
If you start to panick stop smoking asap, drink some water and sit back, just breathe through it and let someone sround you know. if its because of an edible, eat something and lay down flat on your back, your weight holding you down will help w the anxiety
KNOW YOUR STRAINS. Indica and Sativa are the two main strains. Indica mellows you out and Sativa is more psychoactive, then ofc a hybird is the mix of both. If you’re buying medical grade oui’d definitely ask your plug what the base strain and flavor is (flavors are just the names: ie key lime og, cheesequake, og kush, purp, etc)
Understand the measurement system for buying oui’d, prices vary from state to state and depending on if its medical or not. But a dime is 1g, a dub is 2gs,an eighth/kd is 3.5gs, a quarter is 7gs, a half is 14gs, and an ounce is 28gs. This will literally save your ass if you wanna cop oui’d. If youre unsure of prices just think of it like 1g is $10
If you don’t smoke often don’t let people pressure you into smoking a lot, you can get v sick and usually this leads to a bad high. If you do start to feel sick drink water and eat bread-y type foods, make sure you eat slowly so your body can adjust.
If you’re gonna smoke regularly learn how to roll joints, my personal favorite sheets (that you can get on amazon) are the bambu hemps, Theyre thinner sheets so they can tear easy but practice makes perfect :)
I dont smoke out of tobacco based products and i dont use funnel in my joints ever (i use a little bit of rosemary sometimes). But a few of my favorite alternatives for blunts are: king palms, mintys mint wraps, and high hemp wraps. Im pretty sure you can get those all on amazon!
If youre smoking out of a pipe make sure its clean!!! If youre smoking out of a bong make sure its been cleaned (the swamp waters cool but the actual pipe thing and bowl). Bong water being swampy is one thing but if the bowl and shit are dirty snd have old residue and ash in them thats bad for you and your lungs
Eye drops are your bff, not even just for getting rid of redness, the smoke can burn the fuck out of your eyes, so invest in some eyedrops.
Finally dont try to cover the smell up with perfume, the smell can make you sick and you’re still gonna smell either way. No matter what your high ass friends tell you, you still smell.

It’s takes 3 days here to get a prescription signed for a spacer Every time I’m admitted to hospital I get a new one I’ve now got 9 I’ve got brittle eosinophilic asthma and have mepolizumab that’s expensive I have 6 inhalers phyllocontin montekukast steroids fexofenadine azithromycin 3 times weekly also have grade two eosphagitis and chronic heart burn and also allergic so have prednisone eyedrops catacrom hylotears My prescription charges are through the roof a prepayment certificate is a must
Ahh man that sucks! :( Yeah I pay for prescriptions atm as my asthma hasn’t been that bad for the last few years, so it’s just the occasional inhaler. [UYU REVIEW] o-lens russian velvet brown circle lenses from pinkicon 💕 keep reading for the review!
Hello everyone! I hope your January was good and that your 2017 got off to a great start! Mine was okay, but I feel like I've done nothing since I'm still on summer break, haha. Anyway, today I'm going to be my first circle lenses review in a long time! The last review I posted on circle lenses was about 1.5 years ago 😱
The lenses I'm reviewing today are the O-Lens Russian Velvet Brown, which I purchased from Pinkicon!
O-Lens is a pretty well-known Korean circle lenses brand, although they're still not as accessible as other circle lens brands like GEO, for example. You might have heard of them because EXID's Hani has been their model for a while now.  Pinkicon is a circle lens store which is based in Hong Kong, and I've purchased from them quite a few times. They stock a lot more 'unknown' brands of lenses, including Korean and Japanese brands such as O-Lens, Pienage, Heroine Make, as well as the more common brands like GEO and Dueba. The really cool thing is that they have free worldwide shipping on most of their lenses!
DISCLAIMER: I purchased the mentioned products independently and I am not being compensated for this review. I am not affiliated with O-Lens or Pinkicon, and all opinions are my own.
ABOUT THE LENSES
First, I just want to talk a little bit about these lenses and why I chose them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Russian Velvet line is a fairly new product line from O-Lens, and as well as Brown, they’re also available in Grey and Blue. The thing that really struck me about these circle lenses is that they looked super bright, even on dark eyes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maybe it was just the styling of the model. but the lenses really reminded me of the Ice Cream Cake concept from Red Velvet!
These are monthly lenses that are sold in boxes only, with 2 lenses per box. Unforunately, that means if you have a different prescription for each eye, like me, you’ll need to buy two boxes😕
Here’s a summary of all the details:

My order came in one of those yellow bubble mailers, and the shipping was so fast. I ordered on December 30th, and they were shipped out on January 4th, so about 4 business days for processing. I just chose the free option for shipping, Hong Kong iMail, and the estimated time was 20 to 35 business days to New Zealand. The package actually came on January 11th, which is only 5 business days from the shipment date! I was really pleasantly surprised ☺️
Here is the contents of the mailer. As well as the lenses I ordered, which were wrapped in bubble wrap, there were two free lens cases as well as the order receipt and a care manual.
Tumblr media
Here is what the box looks like! As I mentioned earlier, I had to get two boxes because you can only get two pieces of the same prescription in each box, and my eyes have different prescriptions.
Tumblr media
Here are what the lens packaging looks like. These are peel-open capsules, and the foil wrapper also has the information for each lens.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here is what the lens looks like once taken out. As you can see, it’s super, super light and almost transparent! At first, I was kind of worried because I wasn’t sure if it was going to show up on my eye properly.
TRY-ON + FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Tumblr media
As you can see from these pictures, the colour is a lot brighter than my natural eye colour and the size is almost the same as my pupil. These are really natural looking for circle lenses, and most people couldn’t tell that I was wearing anything.
Tumblr media
To be honest, they’re actually a bit lighter than this in real life and I thought they looked a bit spooky when worn without make-up at first. Unfortunately, it was really hard to capture the true colour with my camera, but the last picture is pretty colour-accurate! 😖
They were really easy to put on since they are quite soft - usually the shorter the duration, the softer the lens - and I really liked them at first. I think one of the cons with how soft they are is that they damage quite easily though. I think I may have scratched the lens for my left eye at some point because after the first week, it was super irritating to put in so I’ve had to throw it out and use the other one and it has been fine so far.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here are some selcas of me wearing these circle lenses! I would say the right half on the second picture is the most accurate colour to real life! 💕
OVERVIEW + THOUGHTS
O-LENS RUSSIAN VELVET BROWN: 4 / 5
Enlargement: 1 / 5 These are really natural looking circle lenses, and the englargement is very minimal since the graphic diameter is pretty small and there’s no limbal ring. I would definitely recommend these if you want a natural lens with a bit of ‘pop’ but these aren’t the best for huge dolly eyes.
Comfort: 4 / 5 These aren’t quite as comfortable as some other lenses I own, even from O-Lens but it’s not too bad. They do feel quite dry after 6 hours and on one occasion where I had to wear them for 10 hours (I was dumb and forgot to bring my glasses when I had to gym before work), it was super sore even with eyedrops.  Another thing I had with thes lenses is that the left one became really uncomfortable suddenly, just after a week of wearing. I’m pretty sure I might have scratched the lens, or something along those lines, but that kinda thing hasn’t happened to me even after years of weekly lenses that are much more delicate. It’s just a slight annoyance since I didn’t even get half the wear time out of these that I wanted to, so it’s basically $16 gone 😞
Colour and design: 5 / 5 I really enjoy the colour of these! The light brown shows up quite well on my eyes and it has a kind of ‘ethereal’ look, although I think if you have light brown eyes already, it’ll just look the same on you?
Overall, I really do like these circle lenses and I would recommend them if you’re looking for a different kind of natural circle lenses that pops even on darker eyes. I’m not sure if I would repurchase to be honest, since $16 per month is kinda pricey when my other O-Lens lenses, the Jenith 3 Colour Natural Gray, are $26 for 6 months. I might still try the Blue lenses from the Russian Velvet line still, but I don’t think they’ll be my go-to lenses, even though I do like them, just because of the cost.
PINKICON: 5 / 5
Shipping: 5 / 5 Their shipping was extremely fast, and I’m pretty happy about that. The specific dates are outlined earlier in this post, but the processing time took 4 business days and the actual shipping time was 5 business days. I’m even more impressed with this since I ordered just after Christmas and the postal service and a lot of businesses are still really backed up at this time.
Communication: 5 / 5 Some people asked me if their customer service is good, and the only experience I’ve had with the customer service is from over 2 years ago now. I had ordered the GEO Honey Gray lenses in two different prescriptions, but when I received the order, I got them both in the same prescription. I messaged them about it with a photo of the vials and they got back to me ASAP and sent out a new package with the correct prescription for my other eye, so I was pretty happy with that.
I’ve shopped with Pinkicon many times before and I’m really happy with their site and service in general! I’d definitely purchase from them again, especially since the shipping is so much faster now for some reason.
Thank you so much for reading my review today! I hope you enjoyed it ;u; A lot of you have asked me about the Etude House products I’ve shown on Instagram recently, and thanks for your interest!! I’m currently working on those reviews, but it’s been hard since my skin has been terrible for the past week and I didn’t feel up to taking photos with how bad the texture was 😭 Things are relatively back to normal now, and I should have those reviews up soon❣
Thanks again for reading, and have a wonderful day! 💖

Partly without sight, we descend, into a space for monsters and cyborgs
Tumblr media
The other night, getting ready for sleep, lights off—a friend of J's, C, leans down to remove a sock and slams their left eye into the corner of the wood-frame lofting the bed in J's room. C and J are so tired, neither of them—especially J—process how serious this might be. C's ball made direct and forceful contact with the wood.
The next day J texts folks at work that J is sick-by-association and won’t be coming in.
At the ophthalmologist, C and J find out how serious and irregular the damage is. Before C consents to the treatment, the doctor is already administering something called a bandage contact lens, then handing over a scrip for antibiotic eyedrops to prevent infection while the contact is in, protecting the healing process of the abraded and irregular eyeball.
Later C and J are at a cafe across the street from the ophthalmologist’s office waiting, as instructed, to see how C's eye feels after at least 30 minutes of wearing the contact. There, over coffee and salad, J speculates to C that the ophthalmologist might have been particularly hesitant to seek C's consent because they may have been uncomfortable with how C narrated the damage occurring. J speculates that the ophthalmologist may have wanted to get as quickly as possible out of the examination room.
C's narration, as this narration perhaps does too, left open the implication that, sharing a bed, C and J were fucking—insofar as it is both a common euphemism that to sleep together is to fuck and a common assumption that those whom sleep together also fuck. Assuming the doctor fears queers, then it could be that the narration, combined with C's and J's intimate demeanor, manner of dress, and J's presence in the examination room, incited a fear in the ophthalmologist that impelled them to offer treatment without seeking proper consent—so as to escape ASAP. C responded to this speculation by first acknowledging that, given the pain, they had not paid as much attention to the ophthalmologist’s demeanor as to their words and actions, though had indeed noted this more or less unconsensual treatment. C further responded that, while J’s speculation could have something to it, it could also simply be that the ophthalmologist’s bed-side manner left plenty to be desired.
The next day C and J are in a city adjacent to, but across a bay from, the one that C was sleeping with J in. The city’s and the sun’s lights are causing C much pain, and C keeps cycling through a variety of methods of reducing this. C wears sunglasses; C takes off sunglasses and cups their left eye but not too closely; C puts back on sunglasses and cups their left eye even less closely; C takes off sunglasses and puts on an eyepatch; C takes off the eyepatch and wraps it around the left lens of the sunglasses and puts the glasses back on; C closes both eyes and asks J to guide them on the city streets.
In the afternoon, C and J are riding a streetcar to the ocean-facing beach side of the city to attend a friend of C’s, and acquaintance of J’s, open studio. On the way, to pass the time, while C closes and covers both eyes—since by now the right eye receiving light produces after a short delay pain in the left—J reads to C from a book. J had put this and another book, to be discussed shortly, in J’s backpack in anticipation of an upcoming literary gathering, a Story Hour, that a comrade of J’s facilitates. The book, a feminist epic, was called The Descent of Alette and was written by Alice Notley. The first piece in the epic reads:
“One day, I awoke” “& found myself on” “a subway, endlessly”
“I didn’t know” “how I’d arrived there or” “who I was” “exactly”
“But I knew the train” “knew riding it” “knew the look of”
“those about me” “I gradually became aware—“ “though it seemed
as that happened” “that I’d always” “known it too--” “that there was”
“a tyrant” “a man in charge of” “the fact” “that we were”
“below the ground” “endlessly riding” “our trains, never surfacing”
“A man who” “would make you pay” “so much” “to leave the subway”
“that you don’t” “ever ask” “how much it is” “It is, in effect,”
“all of you, & more” “Most of which you already” “pay to
live below” “But he would literally” “take your soul” “Which is
what you are” “below the ground” “Your soul” “your soul rides”
“this subway” “I saw” “on the subway a” “world of souls”
After that first, J continued reading twenty-four more pieces. Later, at an exceedingly dimly lit pub, after C and J had spent no more than 45 minutes at their friend and acquaintances open studio—which they had left because there was an uncomfortably large number of former friends and acquaintances—C said to J that listening to J read from Notley’s feminist epic while having had eyes closed and body at the whim of the streetcar’s motion had given C an experience of the book’s words that C would prefer to no other experience with those words. C had, with Alette, descended, or C more or less said.
A couple day’s later C has left and J’s mother, S, is visiting. J and S have not yet met up, as they would soon, at S’s hotel. A series of events unfold which J reported on a popular social media platform. The reports are transcribed below:
after a few days of "good" air quality in Oakland (remember, if you forgot, could forget, the wildfires), it's back to "moderate."
i unintentionally celebrate this fact by leaving the burner on too long while I clean—by burning off some oil from—the cast iron.
reading @Thisbhanu's Incubation to find a selection for the anniversary sesh of the writing group I facilitate, which falls on mum's bday,
i forget to watch the pan. the apartment fills with smoke, sets off the alarm, & wakes my sleeping roommate. i hurry to respond to these by:
taking pan off burner, turning burner off, opening windows, waving a tshirt at smoke alarm, taking alarm out off ceiling & moving it away.
the apartment remains filled with smoke but now I am distracted. I've thought, oh what a thread I could tweet. Woken roommate comes in.
Asks what happened; I stutter response. Roommate opens our apartment door & puts on the ceiling fan, blows out scented candle I'd lit.
"we don't need more things burning in here," she said. & later he tells me, "keep the windows open, I still can't breath in my room."
I want to offer a smoke mask, 1 of several a friend who'd been visiting town left when they left; I want not to disturb more. I say nothing.
I leave mask on table next to a card she made for mum's bday. Drawing traced from a photo he woke me to ask for last night, & a v kind note.
[here, a fair number of events worth narration are left out, as, by time of revision prior to posting, J has run out of time to write. this bracket then to note things such as Marshall, tech troubleshooting, volunteers meeting, birthday, burger king photos]
The next day J & S spend much time in S’s hotel room. Shortly after J’s arrival, while S naps, J writes the following email to a writing group that J facilitates weekly.
To those writers of world stuff whom it may concern,
I can only somewhat believe this group’s met for a year now. Worlds' times’ been fastslow—distorted by so much loss & so much solidarity amid ongoing un/natural disasters. In the group we’ve had plenty of changes in who attends, several hiatuses, and a change in format (for those newer, we’ve moved from a more show & tell format, as described here, to a more classic workshop format, with readings to get us started writiting).
In honor of our anniversary and of Sheila Park’s, my mother’s, birthday (she attended our first meeting and will attend again tonight), we’ll be reading from the first set of sections in Incubation: A Space for Monsters by Bhanu Kapil. The reading is also inspired by the theme of this week’s Story Hour, an excellent event facilitated by a comrade-writer Eleanor Liu, the theme of which is MONSTERS/DESCENT TO THE UNDERWORLD. (By the way, if you’re free and intersted Thursday night, check out the webpage for Story Hour, and consider following the directions to rsvp).
Kapil, like my mother, grew up in Britain, moving to USAmerica in adulthood, eventually had and raised here her only child. Incubation, though I did not know it when I was reading it as an undergrad (first year?), was the first book of contemporary unconventional—or “experimental,” if you prefer, as I don’t—prose I read. It was released in 2006 on Renee Gladman’s now retired press Leon Works (a press that’s published several books that mean a lot to me, including Fred Moten’s Hughson’s Tavern). In the book's link, you can read a bit of back-matter.
From the first pair of sections, linked here, we’ll focus on “Hallucinating Childhood (3),” which is 7pgs in length. The pages preceding are also 7; feel free to read those in advance if you’ve time. Sorry for the markings; back then I still underlined, and in pen. I should mention, if you like the readings, the book is currently out of print and the only available copies are hundreds of dollars. If you enjoy and would want to read more from the book, though I believe I read recently it will be brought back in print by another press (I haven’t been able to re-find that info), let me know and perhaps we can find you a copy ;-) (or once I’m thru re-reading, I can loan).
Prompt-wise, we’ll begin with these two two-part alternatives. Alternate 1, part 1—given the definition of a monster Kapil quotes on page 7 (“The monster is that being who refuses to adapt to her circumstances”), write something that either makes space (hostile) for or is filled by monsters. Alternate 1, part 2—what you write could respond to the following question quoted from pg 10: “As a child, in the space before writing, did you suffer when you went to other people’s houses?”
Alternate 2, part 1—given the definition of a cyborg Kapil quotes on page 12 (“Cyborgs are built for assimilation into households and factories”), write something that either makes space (hostile) for or is filled by cyborgs. Alternate 2, part 2—what you write could respond to the following question quoted from page 12, “Am I boring you? Do you want some coffee?”
Looking forward to incubating with you tonight,
Julian
Having sent this email J then returns to the popular social media platform and finds a nearly year old post by Bhanu Kapil, verifying J’s suspicion that Incubation was to be reissued, not by Leon Works, but by the press that published Kapil’s first book, The Vertical Interrogation of Strangers, namely Kelsey St. Press, named for a street that C and J had wandered several days before, seeking both to get where they were going and to avoid light. J reposted this post with the following comment:
had been looking for this for days. initial searches were blocked by a stubborn sense the title was "incarnation" not "incubation." 🤔 to self
To this Kapil replied,
let me know if you would like a preemptive PDF before it comes out properly
This reply, J excitedly informed the writing group that night, new which the group responded too equally if not even more excitedly. The excitement, no doubt, was boosted by the wonderful key lime pie one writer, P, had baked and brought, and the beers and cider another writer, D, had brought.
The prompts proved difficult, and though all were in apparently good spirits, despite a variety of difficult recent personal experiences—among those being that P had not gotten a job they wanted and D had gotten a promotion at a job they didn’t want to still work at—many were unusually hesitant to share. Particularly hesitant was S, whom had reacted with panic to the prompt of writing a space for monsters, preferring, instead, to write one for cyborgs. J, to the prompts, wrote the following scrap of prose:
A steel-cut monstorg smells what’s cooking at the station house, so starts to mosey. “Those oats smell great,” thinks the monstorg.
Trailing behind are three cartoon kittens, each one with a different shaped aluminum hat: one shaped like a satellite, one like an eiffel tower, one like a waffle iron.
Arriving at the station house, the kittens take off the aluminum hats and roll them into one large ball, kicking it around from one to the other.
“Get us something to the break the fast, will ya Tommy Gun?” says the kitten that had been wearing the waffle iron, to the monstorg.
Tommy Gun turns around and winks, then walks into the station house.
There it’s all cybers and the oats aren’t what anybody thought, closer to boats really and the whole foyer is floating to high heaven. There’s a kite string dangling down a stairwell, and all the cybers are so distracted that none notice Tommy Gun go pull the kite string. The kite tumbles down and spills a bunch of rice into Tommy Gun’s open mouth. As the rice continues to spill, Tommy Gun finds an oatmeal sandwich in the backpack next to one of the cybers. It’s no easy balancing act, catching all those grains while pulling a kite string around this foyer full of boats and distracted bodies of roughly 5 networked types, trying to snag sandwiches, but this isn’t Tommy Gun’s first station raid, not even the first this week.
Outside, the kittens are already radiation-drunk and folding the aluminum back into the hats the ball used to be.
