Christmas Special: Day 8
-> Pairing: Taehyung x Reader(ft. Yeontan) -> Neighbor!AU // Kinda childhood friend!AU but not really // Fluffy but kinda sad -> Word Count: 1.8k -> Summary: You just want to paint the snow like always, but your next door neighbor playing in the snow in practically nothing is distracting you. -> Warning(s): Character death - not a major character death// grief
A/N: Definitely my shortest but most wholesome so far
When you were little, your grandfather would sit you by the back porch window with him when it snowed, and he’d make you both hot chocolate while you would paint the falling snow together. His pieces were always so beautiful, and he never ceased to amaze you with his talents every year that you’d work together. The way his colors worked so well together, how they complimented his style no matter who or what the subject was. He embraced his skills, and always encouraged you to do the same.
Your grandfather made you realize that nothing is more beautiful than falling snow. Nothing is more serene than the light droplets of white that rain down from above in soft flurries. Gentle, delicate, and not one the same as another. Each were genuinely unique, and came together to create such beautiful landscapes. They kept you entranced every time you saw them, and it made winter your favorite season. He made the cold inviting to you, and the way the night would fall so quickly began to draw you in as the years went by.
But as you got older, so did your grandfather. He’d started to have problems getting up and down the front steps, he’d started calling you to ask if you’d known where he’d left something when you were out of the house, and he’d even forgotten to lock the front door on numerous occasions. You and your parents were starting to become worried with everyday that he seemed to be getting worse. Each year that the two of you would paint together, made you worry for what year would be his last.
Unfortunately, this last spring was it.
They say that April showers bring May flowers, but no flower could fix the heartbreak and the pain you endured from your grandfather’s passing that year. He was someone special, a beautiful soul that can only be found in the rarest of places. The one person who always encouraged your dreams and your beliefs, was suddenly gone like that. It changed you, and suddenly the cold was the only friend you had anymore as the winter months rolled in. They kept you snug in their embrace everyday that you spent by your window, looking to the stars in hopes of the first snowfall. Hoping for the one thing you still shared with your grandfather.
And as nature would have it; it came.
That’s how you find yourself with the old easel your grandfather bought you on your 8th birthday, right in front of your bedroom window with your paints beside you. Your canvas sits untouched on top of the wood, with you just staring out of the window behind it. You’d been waiting all year for this moment to come around again, but nothing about it felt right to you. The weather was cold, your hot chocolate was piping hot, and the snow was falling softly against the side of your house. It was the perfect view for a painting, but your mind was everywhere but the painting you had wanted.
Would your grandfather have made a joke about your head being in the clouds by now? Of course he would, that’s what he did best. He’d probably scold you for not drinking your hot chocolate while it was still hot, and then he’d take a sip of his own and burn his tongue! Of all the silly things he was known for, his insistence of drinking or eating when they were still hot was his most redeeming quality.
You missed it the most...more than anything.
A male voice yells from outside your window, “Tannie! Stop jumping on my snowman!”
You pull yourself out of your thoughts to look around the easel, seeing your next door neighbor, Kim Taehyung, with his small Pomeranian Yeontan. He was the last person that you wanted to see at the moment. He’s been your next door neighbor since you could remember, but neither of you have really talked since you were in middle school and he still wore big bulky glasses and tried to catch Pokemon in your backyard. He still tried to catch Pokemon on the occasion, but now he looked like he should be modeling for an agency while doing it. Now, he was one of the most popular juniors in your high school alongside the rest of the Bangtan Boys.
It wasn’t that he was a jerk or anything, but everywhere you turned there were girls following him and his friends. Art class? Girls. Lunch time? Girls. Bathroom? They shouldn’t be there, but yes, there are girls. He wasn’t safe for your small circle, so you tried your best to stay clear. You’d talk at the occasional block party hosted at the Choi’s house, but it was just regular conversation to get you through the few hours you were stuck there those three days out of the year. There were some parties where the two of you would ditch and just chill together, but that was it.
“Tannie!” He whines again.
You giggle as you watch the small dog run around his owner without a care in the world, just enjoying the falling snow around him. That’s when you finally take notice of what Taehyung is wearing; or lack thereof. He’s wearing what looks to be a pair of jeans with a simple t-shirt and sneakers. No jacket, no hat, no gloves, and not even a scarf. He was just playing in the cold and the snow with no protection at all from the forces.
“Kim Taehyung, I swear…” You mutter to yourself. You shake your head and return to your easel, staring at the blank canvas before you to get back to work. Only the thought of the boy outside keeps you from working as he’s probably freezing from the cold without anything to protect him. The more you try to ignore it, the more you keep looking to your left to see what that boy is doing that’s so important he couldn’t put anything on. It got so annoying that you eventually just gave in. You slip on your snow boots, grab a thick jacket, and two hats from your closet, grabbing another jacket from the hall closet on your way to the front door. On your porch sniffing one of your Christmas decorations is the small puffball that insists on ruining snowmen in their progress. He obviously got tired of being scolded and wandered off while his owner was busy.
“Hey, there Tannie.” You bend down to pull the dog into your arms, earning a small yip and an attempt to lick your face in response. You look at him and without shame start using your baby voice, “Did Taehyungie yell at you too much? Is he just a big meanie?” You continue on and head into the falling snow, getting closer and closer to the unsuspecting boy throwing snow around. You shake your head, “Taehyung!”
He jumps in surprise but quickly breaks into a smile when he sees you with Yeontan in your arms, “Hey (Y/n)! Did you come to enjoy the snow with us?”
“Actually, I came to make sure you didn’t get sick,” You set Tannie down and pull your father’s jacket from under your arm and the extra hat from your coat pocket. You hold them out for him to take, “If you don’t put on at least a jacket, then both Seokjin and Hoseok are going to beat the crap out of you.”
“I’m just playing in the snow.” He argues. Despite his argument, he still accepts your jacket and hat, pulling the pink cap over his own pink locks. He gives you his boxy smile after adjusting the clothes, “Thanks for worrying about me.”
You shrug, “Yeah, well, you were distracting me from painting.”
“You’re still painting?” He asks. His shoulders have dropped, remembering the day he saw the coroner arrive to your home. He remembered the way you tried to follow after them, but your mother kept you in place with her and your father. He felt bad at your loss, especially knowing what it feels like to lose someone that close to you. He noticed your change instantly at school, but with the following he has never got the chance to check in on you.
That was something he still regrets now.
Seeing your shoulders drop at the mention he tries to quickly defend his words, “I’m so sorry! It’s just-...you’ve been a little different since your grandfather passed.”
You nod, giving him an encouraging smile, “Well, he meant a lot to me.”
“Well, if you ever want to talk or you just need someone to paint with you, I’ll do it.” He offers. He seems genuine, but you know better, “You don’t have to do that Tae.”
“I know, but I know how it feels to lose someone really important to you.” He says. He had lost his grandmother the year before, a similar situation to yours. He had been just as heartbroken as you, maybe more! Either way, he knew how you felt, probably better than anyone else. That’s probably why his smile felt more comforting than others, “Don’t be a stranger okay?”
You nod to him and return to your home, removing your snow gear and returning to your room. By this time, your hot chocolate is definitely cold, and the view from your window still isn’t any better. Taehyung was still out there, but at least he was warm now. His response to why he was out in the snow actually made you think a lot about your grandfather. He was one to go out into the snow without a care in the world too - You can still hear your mother yelling at him to not teach you bad habits. He always told you as you got older that your bond with him was a special one, and that when he couldn’t paint with you anymore that you’d have to find the best replacement.
He wanted you to find someone that would bring him back to you.
Without even really considering what you’re about to do, you open your bedroom window to the snow. You clear your throat, “Taehyung!” He looks to you from his baby snowman confused. You smile, “Can I take you up on that painting offer?”
His confused look turns into one of his beautiful boxy smiles as he picks up Tannie from beside him. He races towards your first floor window and passes the small dog to you, taking his turn to pull himself up and fall onto your hardwood floor. Just like that, you had another person with you. You had someone willing to paint with you, someone willing to get sick to spend some quality time in the snow, someone who believed hot chocolate should be devoured when it’s steaming hot.
Someone that when he smiled, and told you jokes about his friends being crazy, made you think back to your grandfather every time.

Bonds that Heal the Wound (A Brother Bear Fanfic)-Chapter 2
When Halona and Mai reach the top of the hill, Halona takes note of all the people setting up the main stage for the ceremony. Two men are working together to paint a mountain on the stone wall. This mountain that they are painting is of great importance to the tribe. They refer to it as “The Mountain where the Lights Touch the Earth.” It’s a long name, yes, but it also describes it perfectly. This mountain is where the spirits of people’s ancestors come down from the heavens. The sight of the lights represents hope and guidance, the people knowing that their ancestors are watching over them. This painting is placed center of a great skew of red handprints that cover most of the wall. The handprints belong to those that have reached manhood or womanhood. Once a member has proven that they have followed their totem, their handprint is place upon the wall. Halona glances down at her hands. One day, her handprint will be on there. She’s excited to see what the world will have in store for her, but at the same time, she knows that Kenai and Sitka will not be part of the world that she will become a woman in. “Halona! There you are, sis!” Halona snaps out of her train of thought to see a man wearing blue deerskin clothing walk towards her, arms spread out to give her a hug. He grabs her and ruffles her hair. What was once kept and neat now has fly-aways. “Think you can wait until I put these sticks down, Denahi? My back is killing me!” Denahi backs up by a foot, allowing Halona to slip the bundle of sticks tied to her shoulders off. She places her hands in the center of her back, cracks it and sighs. “Better now?” Denahi smiles. “Good,” he then forcefully grabs her with a smile and continues ruffling her hair, “Ready to finally become a woman, sis?” Halona laughs and tries pushing the older man off her. Although Denahi refers to her as sister, or sis, the two are in fact not related by blood. When Halona was just a toddler, she had been found in the woods by Tanana. She was on her way to retrieve a totem for a soon-to-be woman at the time and came across her. Halona was alone, wrapped in nothing more but a few pieces of cloth. She babbled and squealed at Tanana, almost begging the woman to take her into her arms. Tanana saw this is a sign from the spirits and indeed took the girl in her arms. With the girl in arm, Tanana made her way to the mountain top where the spirits took a small stone and transformed it into an elk. Tanana wrapped it in a small cloth and placed it in the pocket of her shaman cloak. Before she could leave, the lights of the spirits wrapped around her. As a shaman, Tanana can communicate with the spirits in a way that the other village members cannot. They told her that the child should be placed in care of the three brothers Sitka, Denahi, and Kenai. They gave no reason to Tanana as to why those three brothers specifically, but she has never been in any place to doubt the Great Spirits. When Tanana arrived back at the village that afternoon, her first stop was to see the three brothers. Sitka was more than happy to take the young girl, a smile on his face the moment she was placed into his young arms. Sitka was only about 16 at the time, but he had proven he was more than capable of raising her as he had already raised the other two brothers for most of their lives. Denahi was around 8 and he was a little unhappy at first feeling even more as a middle child than he already was, but soon grew to love as if she were his sister by blood. Kenai was probably the most thrilled considering that he would no longer be considered the true youngest child. Kenai was about 4 at this point, approximately a year old her than Halona. Kenai took her under his wing and the two were inseparable. The brothers were Halona’s whole world and up until a few months ago, she had no idea what she would do without them. “As ready as I’ll ever be dog breath,” Halona punches Denahi’s arm, causing him to step back a little bit, laughing as he rubs his sore arm. Denahi lets out his last breathy laugh before becoming a bit more serious, his smile becoming a bit more tight lipped and eyes softening as he looks Halona in the eyes, “I know you wanted Sitka and Kenai here for this, but I know that they’re both ecstatic for you, even if they’re not here to say it in person.” Halona frowns a bit, cursing Denahi mentally for bringing up her two brothers. They’ve been brought up once already, she’d much prefer the thought of them not being here to stay away from her thoughts. “I know. It just hurts, you know? Everyone was here for Sitka’s totem, yours, and even Kenai. But for me? Everyone’s either dead or not even human,” Halona rubs her eyes, trying her best to not let the tears she had tried to force from coming fall. Denahi wraps his arms around her, nuzzles his nose into her hair, “I know it sucks, kid. But things will get better. Things will be okay, I promise.” Halona sniffs and smiles a bit, her words cracking as she speaks, “Funny, that’s what Mai told me earlier.” Suddenly a yell is heard from the bottom of the hill, “Tanana’s back! C’mon!” Denahi parts from Halona and bends down to grab the bushel of sticks. He smiles once more and says, “Let’s get these sticks set up for the fire. You’ll see. Once you get that totem, everything will be fine.” Denahi and Halona work together to place all the large sticks and branches inside of the stone of circles placed in the center of the stone floor. They’re paced teepee style. As per tradition, a large set of antlers, probably from a giant elk, is placed at the very top of the teepee for decoration. Once everything is set into place, Denahi and Halona find their placed among the first row of villagers who have already sat down, waiting for the arrival of Tanana. “Ooh good! I didn’t miss anything!” Halona jumps as Mai plops herself down next her. “Do you really have to scare me like that?” “Not my fault you’re jumpy,” Mai shrugs. She receives an eyeroll from Halona in response. A series of hushes are spread across the platform as all eyes are sent to the entrance. An older woman with a fur cloak and long white hair placed into two braids, one on each side of her face, walks towards the stack of yet to be lit wood. This is the shaman woman Tanana. Tanana pauses for a moment for one of the village men to hand her a lit torch. Every face in the room is lit up with a large smile as they watch her walk past them. With the torch in hand, she pulls her arm back and tosses it fervently, yet gently into the teepee stacked sticks. The teepee lights up in a roar of flames, causing the room to erupt into their own roars of cheering. “Welcome, my friends. As we all know, when one of us comes of age, the spirits bring us a totem that represent what we must do in order to become a man,” Tanana teasingly pats Denahi on his head as she walks about the room, giving her speech, “or a woman.” Mai’s hair is then ruffled by Tanana. Both Mai and Denahi give the shaman woman a friendly smile as they chuckle softly. “Halona,” Tanana calls out her name and sits in front of the fire, being cautious enough to keep a good distance as not bring harm to herself. Halona stands up timidly and walks over. She carefully sits down and let’s out a worrisome sigh. “Nervous?” Tanana asks. Halona is met with a quick sense of déjà vu from that question. She responds with, “Just a little.” “Don’t be. It’s a good one!” There’s that déjà vu again. “Halona, I have been to the mountain where the lights touch the Earth, and the spirits have revealed to me your totem,” Tanana’s words are warm and full of hidden excitement. She reaches into her pocket and pulls out the totem, wrapped in a small cloth, the animal carved in it hidden underneath the cloth. “Your totem is,” everything moves in slow motion for Halona as Tanana carefully pulls back the top layer of cloth that’s hiding the carving in the totem. The excitement in the room dies before Tanana can even say what the totem is. The second Tanana pulls back the cloth, Halona feels her heart stop. Denahi and Mai have the same feeling in both of their chests. “Love!”

The Mist

Percy (06/Death)Last Wednesday at 1:55 PM
Death frowned at his phone as Ace appeared... then went silent. A brief glance was given to the fog outside, looking it over as if he was searching for something to come stumbling out of it, before finally turning his attention to Pembrooke. "Do you have any idea how to find her? Ready to go?" (Short and sweet because don't wanna do long)
👑Lissa☂ (Paint/Feferi/Kanaya)Last Wednesday at 2:41 PM
Kanaya glances at her own phone. "It appears she turned on her location as the inspector requested. So unless the fog decides to fuck with that it shouldn't be all that difficult," you say. She then finishes cleaning off her chainsaw, plucking bits of gore out of its teeth. She would treat her equipment with care to ensure it will last. She looks back to him and simply say, "Ready." The troll can deny, she has some anger against the nurse for losing her brother in this place. But perhaps that isn't reasonable since it seems to be taking people in and somewhere else as it pleases.
Mabs (PI/02)Last Wednesday at 6:35 PM
Pembrooke nods and finishes packing some supplies into a side bag. Just in case. Never know. "Alright. Looks like there is a lot of talk on the chat about keeping an ear open since well...the fog is keeping us from being able to get a good look. Let's go." The inspector steps out to take point...it didn't feel right to have Elliot and Kanaya out front. Something something gentleman, something something his duty to protect.
Percy (06/Death)Last Wednesday at 6:42 PM
Arguably, the one with the melee weapon should be in front but... Death wasn't going to argue. He knew the two of them knew how to handle themselves, and he was willing to follow. "Should we run? Not sure how long we want to linger in the fog. Or... house jump. I'm not sure what will keep us safe honestly, I've only had to face dogs so far and they weren't the roll over and pet the belly sort."
👑Lissa☂ (Paint/Feferi/Kanaya)Last Wednesday at 6:44 PM
"House jumping could be risky with this fog. It makes everything a little damp. Running could attract attention," you say, thinking over the options. You hold your chainsaw, not running just in case the noise would bring monsters to you, but ready to go if needed.
Mabs (PI/02)Last Wednesday at 6:50 PM
"I think a slight hustle would work...but yes...running could attract attention or worse, make it easier for us to lose one another in the fog. I know most of these streets. Well, as long as stuff hasn't changed in this city and changed the roads." The inspector looks around as he begins a steady stride, listening to the silence around him.
"If anything we should try to find Paint before night falls. Karkat too if possible. I do not want to imagine what things are going to be like come nightfall."
Percy (06/Death)Last Wednesday at 7:50 PM
Death's steps barely make a whisper as he follows. He nods to their cons in regards to his suggestions, not about to argue. "If it even turns to night. It may just stay grey and dreary. A silver lining to this massive cloud, hm?" He winces a bit, rubbing his temple. Why do these keep setting in?
👑Lissa☂ (Paint/Feferi/Kanaya)Last Wednesday at 7:57 PM
You keep side by side with the Inspector. After all, you're the one with the best night vision and sense of smell if Elliot and Pembrooke are like most humans. Glancing at the inspector and Elliot, you ask, "Do you have anything to defend yourself with? What about you if you run out of bullets or lose your gun?" In times like these, you are all allies against this nightmare. You'd protect them almost as if they were Crew.
Mabs (PI/02)Last Wednesday at 8:09 PM
"I have a few tricks up my sleeves. Though...admittedly I'm not exactly as experienced when it comes to slicing and dicing I suppose..." Pembrooke gives an awkward chuckle as he pats at his trenchoat as if to indicate there is something underneath the fabric. "But I'm making a guess that nonlethal force is pointless..." He pauses as they reach an alleyway to listen before heading into it. Sort of the gamble...not sure what is on the main roads...not sure what is in the alleys. But the alley would be a faster route to Miss Paint. And truth be he was feeling more brave dealing with something small than risking encountering something big.
Percy (06/Death)Last Wednesday at 8:17 PM
"I'm good at running! I ah, funeral directing doesn't exactly require 'familiar in fire arms' on the resume. And the dead usually do not require force to keep them laying down. Sorry for er, being the dead weight, perhaps we should have found the appointed 'safe haven' to keep from being a liability. ...Hhnf--" Death winced again as his head throbbed. The bells sounding in his ears hardly helped it and... were they getting louder? "Do forgive me but... does anyone else hear that?" Was it just him? This was too ridiculously loud to be just a him thing. However, it was indeed just a him thing.
👑Lissa☂ (Paint/Feferi/Kanaya)Last Wednesday at 8:22 PM
You pull out a knife from somewhere though use flare making it seem to appear from thin air. You press the handle into Death's hand and listen when he asks if you hear anything. "I don't..." you says softly and attempt to try catching a scent instead.
Mabs (PI/02)Last Wednesday at 8:27 PM
The inspector goes quiet as he presses against one of the alley walls, also listening. Other than the sounds he and the other two were making, the air seemed to almost muffle any other sounds...and the city seemed lacking entirely in noise which was it's own form of unsettling. He looks back to Elliot and Kanaya to see their expressions, frowning as he notes Elliot's expression.
Percy (06/Death)Last Wednesday at 8:51 PM
Oh good. It was just him. Death wasn't sure if he was okay with that or not. The knife was appreciated, though the words to express his appreciation were lacking as Death paused all together to lean against the wall as well. "O, one moment. Somethings wrong." Kanaya could easily pick up something in the air, and it wasn't long before Pembrooke could as well. An unpleasant, pungent smell of bile laced with one too many drinks and left to ferment. Something loomed before them, a dark silhouette hidden in the mist. Whatever it was, it stood several heads taller than the rest, however from the end of the alley where the form swayed came a soft, feminine voice. "Hello?"
👑Lissa☂ (Paint/Feferi/Kanaya)Last Wednesday at 8:56 PM
Not good. You opt for more knives over the chainsaw in case this thing was alone and could be delt with silently. You prepare to throw but look to the inspector as the 'leader' of your merry band. You have trained for combat but clever assassination was far more you're style, so you'd defer to the man who's been in more fire fights.
Mabs (PI/02)Last Wednesday at 9:07 PM
Pembrooke frowns...ohhhh no he doesn't like that. From his trenchoat he pulls out a Halligan Bar as he puts his pistol away. That...well he doesn't want to attract too much attention from gunshots. Also...ammunition is precious. Hgnn...then again perhaps the best tactic was to simply embrace avoidance and take the longer route.
He glances over to note Kanaya with a blade ready to throw. Turning to Death, he whispers. "Lets try to...double back...but if it advances do you feel confident in your aim Miss Kanaya?"
👑Lissa☂ (Paint/Feferi/Kanaya)Last Wednesday at 9:15 PM
"Of course, Inspector," you tell him in a quiet whisper in return.
Percy (06/Death)Last Wednesday at 9:34 PM
The shadow sways dramatically before taking a staggered step forward. "Hello??" Comes the voice again, pitched with distress and quivering with fear. The frantic, plead of a sound comes again, but the second syllable comes deeper, a little warped. Death is fine with taking a retreat, he's practically gagging on the pain that pulls tears to his eyes. There's a tight pinch of a feeling before blood drips from his nose. He gives a nod in response to whatever words he could make out from Pembrooke's mouth, stumbling back out into the streets as the thing came towards them with a drunken gait. "Hello?? Hello!? HeLLO, HELLO!?" The near sobbing greeting darkened, as if demanding an answer, a far more masculine, angry shout bellowed down the alleyway.
Mabs (PI/02)Last Wednesday at 9:43 PM
Yeah...no. There was a time to fight, but in a small alleyway against something nearly twice their height...Pembrooke had a hunch that would probably take most of his bullets and who knows how much of Miss Kanaya's fuel in her chainsaw. And right now resources were limited. "Hnng. Fall back." you quickly hiss as you start to retreat back towards the entrance from which you three came. The point of the alley was to take a shortcut...but it wasn't much of a shortcut if you all ended up injured or trapped in an alley with a monster.
October 25, 2018
👑Lissa☂ (Paint/Feferi/Kanaya)Yesterday at 12:05 PM
You follow the inspector though you don't take your eyes off the creature. If it attacks, you will be ready to retaliate. If it springs, a knife to the face should buy you enough time to get the chainsaw going. Ideally you all will be able to back out without incurring its notice.
Percy (06/Death)Yesterday at 1:07 PM
Its pace doesn't pick up as they retreat, but it does sound angrier as they do, calling after them before its voice breaks into a sob and softening once more to the scared voice it was. The knife Kanaya had so kindly given Death had been discarded, the man was far too busy clutching at his head and panting harshly to fiddle with something so sharp. Despite the pain, he didn't retreat too far, standing outside of the alley and waiting on his moirail and the other even though the entirety of him wanted him to flee. The farther they got, the more distressed the sobs grew, higher and higher until they turned to a shriek. A sudden gun shot crackled down the alley-- and all grew silent once more, with nothing but the whisper of the fog covering an unpleasant memory.
Mabs (PI/02)Yesterday at 1:18 PM
Pembrooke wraps his arm around Elliot to help balance the mortician as they made their way down the street and away from...whatever that was. As the sound turned back to the feminine wail, he deduced perhaps it was maybe some sort of angler style predator? A plea of distress until one gets closer to i- The gunshot echoing far behind them does make him jump, both physically and from the mental train of thoughts. Turning around, he looks back to see...well its just fog. More fog. The three of them alone in the street. Pembrooke takes a moment to listen and calm his heart. "I...is everyone alright?" he finally manages to speak, turning both to his morail and Kanaya as he pulls out a handkerchief for Elliot's nose. "That was. Hnn."
👑Lissa☂ (Paint/Feferi/Kanaya)Yesterday at 1:43 PM
The sounds made by the creature are disquieting enough, but the gunshot puts you more on edge. With no idea whether it was creature related or person, you find it worrying. "Yes," you tell the cop quietly, still wary of speaking too loud.
Percy (06/Death)Yesterday at 2:51 PM
Death jumps right along with Pembrooke, and later he'd wallow in the shame it brought, but the gun shot going off had him jerking in front of Pembrooke to put the inspector between him and the noise. With the wailing went the pain throbbing in his head, and the ringing ebbed to a low, constant chime as it once was. He was thankful for the arm keeping him upright, even if he did jump about in the hold. "MmhmMmhH." Came the shaky response, the only sound he'd be able to muster for now outside of the quiet whimpering. Death took the handkerchief, pressing it gingerly over his lower face with a shaking hand. He'd... deal with actually cleaning once he calmed down more.
Mabs (PI/02)Yesterday at 3:50 PM
The inspector nods and hurries them along until they reach an empty newstand...papers scattered and torn asunder with foreboding messages and ominous headlines that Pembrooke had a hunch was probably something to the effect of this world's morbid sense of humor. Still though, it offered a quick shelter for the three to hunker down quietly out of sight. Give Elliot and them a chance to take a bit of a breather. He hops the counter, before unlocking the doorstand to let the others in, hunkering down behind the counter. "Seems like a good time to check back to make sure everyone else is doing alright..."
👑Lissa☂ (Paint/Feferi/Kanaya)Yesterday at 3:54 PM
You nod and take a position to keep look out for them. "Right. I'll make sure nothing creeps up on us."
Percy (06/Death)Today at 5:04 AM
Death followed suit, eager to drop to his knees then into a sit to hide beneath the counter. His eyes closed and head tipped back to touch the wall of behind him as he focused on easing his sharp pants. In the meantime, also cleaning the blood from his face. "S, sorry... About that. I don't know- don't know what was going on there. What--" he took in a shaking breath, before deciding he didn't want to know what that was, "are you two okay?"

Silverleaf 8: The Big Bang
So many thanks to Ben on Patreon for sponsoring this series! Feel free to leave a thank you on this post! Or just leave me a comment, because my ego must be fed. All of Silverleaf is here.
The lights hung in hazy contemplation in the darkness of the wine bar, warm and intimate, glowing like stars against the ceiling. Haruka wanted to say something about them, about they reminded her of Van Gogh, of the way everything was filtered through that unreality of beauty. Haruka wanted to tell her being around Michiru was like that, sometimes, that the world got a little more beautiful, and a little less real, in the halo of her presence.
“I have a cat!” was what she said. “His name is Mouse.”
Michiru looked across the table at her, her head tipped in that slightly bemused way. “An interesting way to begin to tell me about yourself, but I do love novelty.”
“I’m a gym teacher.” You teach at the same school, idiot, “I majored in Phys Ed,” shocking. You’re so brilliant, “Uh, I used to run a lot?” It’s a wonder you’re single.
“May I assist you with the wine list?” The waiter asked.
“Oh please god yes.” Haruka burst out.
Michiru reached over and touched her hand, the feel of her electric on Haruka’s fingers. “Oh my, is that the source of your nerves? No, please, allow me.” She nodded knowingly. “Something midrange, of course”
Her eyes glanced quickly over the wine list, gracefully as a cat leaping upon a mouse, only a moment until she selected her prey. “The Sea Smoke pinot, should suffice, I think.”
Haruka felt her eyes widen, and she tugged at her tie, looking off.
“So your running is all in the past tense?” Michiru handed the wine list back to the waiter, not even glancing up. “I daresay that comes as a surprise to me.”
“Oh, I still,” Haruka looked at the food menu, suddenly now wondering if any of this was going to be fine enough, or if she should just have Michiru order, “I still run, I like it, but, not like I used to. I was pretty good.”
“We all tire in our,” she laughed, “old age.”
“I got hurt pretty bad in college.” She said, not even thinking. Therapy had given Haruka a number of things for which she was very grateful, but she had also been horrified her discover the tap her own of personal disclosure, once rusted shut, had a way of leaking upon its repair, in a way that caused her personal offense on more than one occasion.
“Oh? I’m terribly sorry to hear.”
Not as terribly sorry as my father was to hear. ‘That’s all she’s good at!’ he told the doctor, and I don’t think he knew I could hear, but he was just in the hall outside my room, and I knew he meant it. I was supposed to go to the Olympics for him, but now I’m just…
“It’s okay.” She shrugged, simply happy she hadn’t said it aloud. “Long time ago.”
Way to go, you brought down the whole night, Haruka, one side of her said. Shut up, came the quiet but firm reply.
“So how’d you come to Silverleaf?” Haruka perked up, smiling as she set down the menu, “and let me know if anything on here sounds good.”
“Oh,” Michiru looked over the food menu, “I was an alumna of Silverleaf, and when I found myself back in the country, it seemed as good a position as any. I believe the general idea is order several small plates, as they do in Spain.”
“Did you go to Tokyo College of Music?”
Michiru laughed as she looked over the top of the small menu. “You must not think much of my playing. Japan does not have even a top 25 conservatory in the world, no,” she put the menu down casually, “I went to Julliard, in New York City. Toured a bit.”
“Missed home?”
“That presumes this is home.”
“So New York was home?”
Michiru looked up at her and folded her hands neatly in her lap, her eyes studying Haruka. “So tell me about your search for home. It must be quite bumpy, perhaps even ongoing, to hear your interest in the concept.”
Haruka recoiled a little with the lash of honesty, and quietly looked at the menu, unsure of what to say.
Michiru looked for a moment, off into the night, where people came and went, the low glow of the streetlights falling upon them as they slipped underneath, in and out of the light. She knew them, she felt, the same way she slipped in and out of sight, never staying under the harsh judgment of the light for more than a moment.
She looked back at Haruka, at her golden gaze. Haruka was nothing like her, she saw that, had seen it from the first. One of those girls, Michiru knew, who had tried to be something else when she was younger, tried to be tall and tough and brave but underneath there was the light, and no matter what they put over it in could only be as effective as a colander, points of bright piercing through.
The effect was about as honest as Michiru trying to contain her own darkness, the shadow that swallowed stars.
“I think this is home for me, now. ” The warming sunlight of dawn poured from Haruka’s mouth as she shrugged. “I guess.”
Michiru smiled her closed mouth smile. “It’s an interesting concept, is it not? Seeking some nebulous idea we’re told about from childhood, with no idea of what it might be.” She peeked out into the light, just a hair, “My parents were anxious for me to return. I imagine they were concerned about what I might get up to, in the world. The name, you know.”
Haruka laughed good-naturedly, happy to have the awkward moment pass. “I think my parents stopped worrying as soon as the Olympics were out.”
The waiter stopped by, saving them from themselves and each other, presenting the bottle of wine.
“I think you should just order,” Haruka set down the menu, “I don’t really ever know what to get.”
“The secret of course, my dear, is to know what you want.” She looked at Haruka with a sly and predatory look. She appraised the waiter as he served them, swirling the dark wine in the glass and taking a sip. “Yes, that will do nicely.”
There is a strange quality to dates, Michiru had often observed, somewhere between ballet and poker, trying to suss out anything about the other, while hiding your own hand, all while making it as romantic and beautiful as possible, music swelling in the moments where one might meet against the other, and the hands might delicately touch, still only showing the other the painted maze of your true cards’ back.
Dates were weird, Haruka noticed, the way that people tried to get to know each other without knowing each other, just nervously sucking down too-expensive wine and wondering if your hair looked alright, and if your cologne smelled okay. Sometimes, there felt like a real spark, but Haruka admitted to herself that sometimes it was tough for her to tell the difference between electricity and static. They were sort of related, weren’t they? And it could be faked for awhile.
United in these feelings they could not possibly show to the other, they shared the plates as they were served, hands brushing by each other like curtains in the breeze, gently sliding past.
“It melts on the palate,” she spread a thick layer of the roasted marrow on the slice of bread, “butter, but so much richer than butter could dream of being,” she set her knife down across the plate, and looked at Haruka, “it gives way beneath one’s tongue, responsive to it, almost, releasing the pleasure in a sudden burst.” She opened her mouth and enveloped the edge of the bread in, her tongue leaving her mouth just enough for Haruka to see the soft pink of it as it accepted the unctuous delight of it all, her eyes never leaving Haruka.
Haruka stared, her mouth open, and then dropped her knife on the ground with an involuntary shudder of fear and desire, mixed into its own vinaigrette.
Tonight was full of new flavors.
Michiru giggled. “I apologize, that was overly fawning of me over a simple plate.”
“No, I--” she scrambled to retrieve her knife, just as a new one was set on the table by the waiter, “I’ve just never had it before.”
“Well then,” Michiru nodded, “aren’t you in for a treat?”
___
“This is home,” Haruka motioned her in the door,“It’s not like your place or anything, but I like it.”
“It’s terribly charming,” Michiru said, surprised to discover that it was not a lie, delighted that she had charmed her way into being invited up, “quite comfortable.”
Her appraising eye fell across the apartment, across the soft lumps of its overstuffed couch, the bundle of afghans piled in a basket under the side table, the posters framed on the wall, fictional locations done up in faux-retro styles. It was a simple place, and it was, as Haruka said, nothing like her own. There was nothing for anyone else here. It was all Haruka’s, with all of the same honesty held in her eyes.
Haruka rocked back on her heels and clapped her hands together. “I like it. It’s convenient too, next to the bus and subway lines.”
Mouse came out of the shadows and meowed at Michiru’s feet.
“Why, hello,” She looked down at him, “the master of the house, I presume.”
“Yeah,” Haruka chuckled, “he’s the most important man in my life.”
Haruka picked him up and held him to her chest, scratching behind his ears, and he regarded Michiru carefully. It was a bit silly, to feel judged by a cat, appraised as if she were on the block at Sotheby’s, and yet the feeling was quite unmistakable.
“Anyway,” Haruka shrugged, “I have some wine in the fridge. It’s not as good as what we were drinking tonight, but I like it okay. There’s a dog on the label.”
“That would be lovely.” She looked around the apartment as Haruka walked to the small kitchen, open to the rest of the apartment. They had doubtlessly left it open to hide how small the apartment was, but Haruka had made a fair use of the space, a small rack under the cabinet holding wine glasses in suspense, watching for Haruka’s next move.
“So,” Haruka asked, “You like working at Silverleaf?”
Michiru took the wine from her hand. “It suffices.” She took a step toward Haruka as Mouse watched carefully. “You? I realize it is somewhat of a different environment for you.”
“Yeah,” Haruka took a drink and set her glass down, “It’s a little--”
Michiru kissed her deeply, Haruka leaning against the edge of the countertop as the heat across her body grew.
There was something warm to her, something that seemed like it might be the home that Michiru did not even think existed, something in the shabby comfort of her home that seemed real. She reached under Haruka’s blazer, pulling at the buttons of her shirt, snaking and sneaking to the soft cotton of undershirt, and Haruka pulled back, her hand on MIchiru’s forearm.
“I--”
Michiru stepped away from Haruka, smoothing her hair. “I certainly never intended to make a nuisance of myself. I was not aware my advances were unwelcome.” She nodded politely, and started to the door.
“No, Michiru!” She outstretched her hand, “I--I really like you--but--”
But this is my first real thing since Yuki left me. I’m out of practice.
“But--”
I never was that kind of girl even when I pretended to be. I’m too old to pretend to be anymore.
“But--”
Everyone only likes me for a little while and it scares me. It must be something about me. You’re too good for me. Your apartment--god I can’t even call that an apartment--it scared me.
“I--”
The butler knew my name and your name’s on the elevator and you’re so beautiful and what if you just like me for a little while, if I let you touch me, like that, I’ll fall in love, Mina says it’s my most pathetic quality--
Michiru slipped her coat on, her back turned to Haruka.
Haruka, SAY SOMETHING, for fuck’s sake.
“Now, now, I have mortified myself quite enough for one evening, I think we can all agree.” Michiru picked up her purse. “I had a lovely time, thank you so much for the invitation to dinner.”
“Michiru, can I--” she stopped her at the door, “--can I call you later?”
“That depends, I suppose, on whether you decide upon what you want.”
Michiru turned and left out the door, and even for Michiru’s graceful way of veiling her feelings, and even for all of Haruka’s well-meaning obliviousness, her hurt and rejection still echoed in the open hallway as she stepped quickly away.
Haruka closed the door and slid down against it, forehead pressed to the wood, wishing she was anywhere else, or anyone else. She fished her phone out of her pocket, Mina’s number already at the top of her messages.
This isnt going to surprse you but i fucked it up with michiru
She hit send and tossed her phone to the side, sitting and leaning her head against the door as Mouse crawled into her lap and bumped his head against her chin, purring and rubbing against her.
“Mouse, why am I like this?”
He answered by kissing her face, and rubbing against it again, purring louder this time.
Outside, a black sedan pulled up to the sidewalk, and Michiru slid inside, the only purr she heard that of the engine taking her further away from the embarrassment of reaching for home.

Artist Profile: Avia Rose Ramm
In May of 2019, Avia Rose Ramm held her first solo show at Weird Hues Gallery in Chula Vista, CA. The show was filled with emotion and captivated the audience viewing. You could sense the powerful energy encapsulated in her work that touches on the relationship between religion, vulnerability and sexuality through symbolism. Her style draws inspiration from the Baroque and Rennaissance periods, with a contemporary context. I wanted to delve deeper behind her work.
Garamonde Magazine: What is your background, and a little about yourself?Avia Rose Ramm: I was born in San Diego, went to a Christian school for most of my life, I had 8 rescued dogs growing up, and my name comes from aviation because my parents fly planes. I’m also 5”1 since apparently, people think I’m taller?
GM: Your artwork surrounds the topic of personal experience. How did you mesh your experiences into your artwork, and was that a challenge for you?
ARR: I don’t know how to summarize this because I’m not that good with words, but in a nutshell, I just paint how I feel and what I see in my head. Unfortunately, growing up I never had a safe person to talk about my feelings and my parents don’t believe in therapy. And lately, I just don’t like to talk to my friends about that stuff. When you don’t talk about your feelings it builds up in your head, so these paintings are that release for me. I don’t know how to write them down so the images just make sense. It’s kind of natural at this point for me to kind of mesh these together. It has gotten easier for me to talk about my feelings and personal experience, but I think I prefer to just stick to the painting. Paint doesn’t judge you or try to give you advice when you just want to be heard. Paint doesn’t invalidate you or tell you to get over it. Paint doesn’t pretend to listen to your feelings for a fuck afterward.
GM: What do you draw inspiration from the most?
ARR: My biggest inspiration is the Baroque art period. Baroque was a rejection of the earlier Renaissance artwork. Artists like Caravaggio « kept it real», and didn’t idealize as much. I want to do that with my work. Personally, I do not resonate with art about depression n suicide that’s colorful and flowery. Just as how Caravaggio did not idealize the virgin mary’s death, it was sad and dark. Thinking about killing yourself every day isn’t all too bright and I want to show that, it’s something I don’t want to idealize for a viewer. Sheep too. Random photos I come across of sheep, ones dead on the floor and the flock just looking at them, for example, is something I oddly resonate with. Did you know there are like over 100 breeds of them?? And that in New Zealand sheep outnumber humans? The texture of them is so fun to paint too. Lambs have been a symbol for the catholic church and for innocence. When I paint them dead and gutted I guess its symbolic for my rejection of the church and my loss of innocence growing up. Sometimes I miss the comfort of religion, and I miss being young and not knowing what being sad was.
GM: What emotions do you want the viewer of your artwork to feel?
ARR: Whatever they want. I say first thought best thought. Whether they are weirded out or feel something that’s all valid. I do say if a viewer doesn’t understand they should ask questions and start a conversation. I have had people come up to me and say that they understand it and that they see themselves in it. I really appreciate when people come up and tell me that because it takes a lot of courage to say you’re are going through the same thing. I feel alone a lot, if people feel less alone by looking at my work it kinda gives me a greater purpose to keep painting I suppose.
GM: What is your process when making work?
ARR: It usually starts with me seeing a piece of artwork I like, or randomly, an unusual picture of an animal, and recreating it in my own style. And I always paint something that’s going on in my head or life, to cope. Oil paint is a process, you can not do it in one day. So from there, it’s a matter of me doing a layer a day until I just think it’s done. Usually, I stop when I have let enough of myself out onto it if that makes sense. No need to overwork something or overthink it in my head when I have essentially moved passed it mentally.
GM: Each painting has such attention to detail and texture. What materials do you work with?
ARR: Oil paint is my true love. The science and mediums that go into it are incredible. My favorite mediums to use with it are Gamsol and Galkyd. I also use dirt, I think it makes the painting fun to look at and sometimes I want people to touch it because dirt under oil paint feels so unique. I also like to use it as a separate thing to represent the pain that I have in my stomach, head, heart, and vagina, spearing it over those body parts and painting over it—it looks rugged. I encourage other painters to do the same, use a texture from nature or objects you have as I think some painting texture mediums are overpriced and a joke. It’s a lot of patience though. I would say the minimum it takes to finish an oil painting with layers and glazing is three days. I think that’s a good thing though, I am an impatient person, and this has taught me to be more patient or work on multiple projects at once. You never get the same richness or presence in acrylic as you do with oil.
GM: Do you have any current or upcoming projects/works?
ARR: In the spring I have a couple shows planned up at some local and amazing galleries that I haven’t even started making pieces for but I know it’ll come together haha I’m looking forward to them! I know I talked about being said a lot here but having something to work towards has made me super hopeful and excited.
GM: If you could tell the world one thing, what would it be?
ARR: Be okay with embarrassment, don’t overthink that awkward conversation and be comfortable with silence among strangers, friends, and yourself.

Arplis - News: My 22 Goals for 2019
Goal #1 — Spend More Time Doing What I Love Just look at that forecast! Fall has finally arrived and before you know it I’ll be wearing my beloved puffy coat and snow will be on the way! I couldn’t be more excited. And those nighttime temps! I’ll need to bring Miss Lemon in. Goal #2 — Garden, Garden, Garden The HH broke out Manny yesterday after he dug up a beautiful 18″ planting space for my baby gem boxwoods and muscari border. We added a few bags of compost to the spot to help the plants get established. We will probably need to expand the planting space in a few years once the boxwoods get a little bigger, for now, scale wise, everything looks as it should. I’ll do a proper post later in the week and show you the new boxwood border. If you haven’t ordered your spring bulbs yet, I ordered 400 tulip bulbs and 500 muscari bulbs from Van Engelen Wholesale Bulb Company and the bulbs were fantastic. The bulbs arrived in about a week and were packaged very well. I highly recommend them. Goal #3 — Plant an Orchard {Calling it Quits on this one.} Lemon is about ready to have babies!!! Two of the Meyer lemons have gone from a dark green to a pale lime green color over the past few weeks and I don’t know for sure, but I think we have another week or two to go until it’s time to harvest our first two Meyer lemons of the year. HOW EXCITING! It will have to be a home birth though {as opposed to an outdoor one} because temps are dropping below 50 tonight {and for 6 of the 7 days in the upcoming forecast} and the lady at the nursery told me when outdoor overnight temps are consistently below 50 degrees at night, that’s when you know it’s time to bring your citrus trees in for the winter. Luckily we have the perfect sunny indoor spot plants, so all is well. Goal #4 — Gussy Up the Potting Shed Done! Goal #5 — Grow Enough Extra Vegetables, Eggs and Flowers to Earn $1500 at my little roadside vegetable stand. It was totally my intention to grow a ton of fruits and vegetables to sell at the farm-stand when I made my list of goals for 2019 last winter, but then we moved. So, that whole goal was sort of a bust. The new peeps wanted the vegetable stand, and we were happy to leave it for them since it was made specifically to match the front of the house, so hopefully the tradition will continue. Goal #6 — Finish Every Single Unfinished Rug Hooking Project in My Pattern Bin + 10 Things from back Issues of Magazines/Books I’ve Been Meaning to Make. I was able to hook 3 small pieces last week {2 from my pattern stash} and once I get the backing on the make dos and finish the back of the rug I’ll add them to my Etsy shop {hopefully in the next two days}. 73 rugs in my pattern bin {now down to 32} 183 hooked flowers {finished 133, now down to 51} 10 “things” from back issues of magazines {finished 0} Goal #7 — Create 12 New Rug Hooking Patterns {with at least half of them being large ones} DONE! So far this year I’ve added 12 new rug hooking patterns and 13 beginner rug hooking kits to my Etsy shop. New rug hooking patterns I’ve created and added to My Etsy Shop this year: Tullia and Thomas Turkey Double Nantucket Whale Runner Miss Henny and Penny Miss Penny Simple Kitty Primitive Flowers 2 Fat Cats Annabell’s Big Day Old Fashioned Double Tulip Fat Brown Hen Busy Little Bee Queen Bee Rug Hooking Kits Busy Little Bee {in 2 different colors} Folk Art Heart Small Nantucket Whale Primitive Crow Miss Robin {in 2 different colors} Simple Kitty Primitive Flowers Sunflowers A Basket of Spring Posies Fat Brown Hen Chicky’s Garden Goal #8 — Split and Stack 2 Cords of Wood for Next Winter All that firewood! We sold it. 😉 Goal #9 — Do Something with the 5,002 Photos on My Phone Current number of photos on phone is 11 million. Goal #10 –Lose the Muffin Top Actually doing well on this goal and fully expect to fit into my pants by the end of the year. Apparently living in the city and walking for pastries is an excellent workout regimen. Who knew? Goal #11 — Run, Walk or Crawl a 5k, 10k, Half Marathon and Marathon I have signed up for both a half marathon and a 5k! 🙂 Looks like this baby will be checked off around Thanksgiving. Goal #12 — Read or Listen to 26 New Books {17 down, 8 to go} This past week I listened to I Feel Bad About My Neck by Nora Ephron. It was okay. The first half was basically a {funny} list of complaints, but the second half was much better in my opinion. The audio version was short {around 3 hours I think} and so it passed the time as I painted a closet. If it was in paper form would I sit down and read it all the way through? Probably not. I did enjoy her book, I Remember Nothing much, much more. Currently on Request: Mr. Churchill’s Secretary by Susan Elia MacNeal The War That Saved My Life by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley Books I’ve Read or Listened to So Far This Year: Marilla of Green Gables #1 Still my favorite The Great Alone #2 The Aviator’s Wife #3 Before We Were Yours #4 Secrets of a Charmed Life #5 Where’d You Go, Bernadette #6 Carnegie’s Maid #7 The Gown #8 Unbroken #9 The Alice Network #10 The Shape of Mercy #11 Will’s Red Coat #12 Big Little Lies #13 I Feel Bad About My Neck Bunny Mellon {Doesn’t count because it was my second time} On Writing {Doesn’t count because it was my third time} Walden Finder’s Keepers Delicious! Following Atticus Goal #13 — Try 52 New Recipes. 24 down, 30 recipes to go. OCTOBER. October is going to be my month for cooking! Goal #14 — Clean Up 52 Old Recipes on the Blog 9 down, 44 to go. I’ll get crackin’ once fall {and cooler temps} come around. Goal #15 — Fill 100 Canning Jars 48 down, 52 to go. Anyone ever canned quince jam before? Using quince from an ornamental bush rather than a tree? Gaaaa. These suckers are ROCK hard and tiny {1″ – 2″} and I’m not even sure I’d have enough to make the effort worthwhile. {I’d need about 2 pounds of quince for a batch of jam}. I mean I like jam and all, but I’m not sure I want to go through all the trouble. Any advice would be AWESOME. So far this year I’ve I canned: 7 jars Peach Jam 7 jars of Strawberry Jam 15 jars of Carrot Cake Jam 15 jars of Spiced Pear Jam 4 jars of Almond Pears. Goal #16 — Finish Furnishing Our House A couch and two chairs have been ordered! Once we get those in place I’ll order a rug {I’m not 100% sure on the size we need yet} and then I’ll paint the walls and create some artwork to hang up and we’ll be good to go. I am SO looking forward to getting the family room all done up in a beachy, nautical theme. Classic New England, that’s what I’ll be going for. Weeeeee. Goal #17 – 52 Dates with the HH {29 down, 23 to go} Bakery dates are the best! Goal #18 — Take One Adult Education Class Done {I’ve taken 3!} I’m keeping the first class I took with my neighbor top secret for now {Mel know’s what it is though} 😉 Spoon Carving Class with Heather. Mini pottery lesson {I loved it! and now I want to sign up for a full class} Goal #19 — Secret {for now} Holiday Project The big reveal will be on Friday, November 1st. Goal #20 — Create 12 Wowie Zowie Party Platters 5 down, 7 to go. Cooler temps mean CHEESE. Right? 😉 I’m looking forward to making up another platter this week. Goal #21 — Visit 12 General Stores 8 down 4 to go. So far this year we’ve visited: Chase’s Daily {I think it should count} Squam Lake Marketplace Harrisville General Store Dodge’s Store in New Boston, New Hampshire Zeb’s General Store in North Conway, New Hampshire Dan and Whit’s in Norwich, Vermont Hussey’s General Store in Windsor, Maine Goal #22 — Compete with Carole….. Get on My Front Door Game On While I currently have a bundle of Indian corn hanging on the front door, once we get closer to Halloween I’ll hang Mrs. HB’s beautiful wreath she made me up on the door. Have you ever seen the movie You’ve Got Mail? You know the part where Meg Ryan is walking through the downtown area in the fall with her pumpkin and just soaking up the city? Well that’s how I feel right now. I still cannot believe we bought a home in a walking downtown area. I’ve think we’ve met at lest 75% of our immediate neighbors already. The house is much smaller than we’re used to, the lot is small too, but I can walk to the bakery, to the farmer’s market to buy a pumpkin and get an entire garden section planted in a day. And you know what… I kind of like it. I don’t even mind all the people walking their dogs past my door {probably because there is no HOA}. Man oh man, what a difference that makes. Change is good. Front Door Bling I’ve Made So Far This Year to Compete with Carole: Late January : Valentine Heart Late February : Shamrock Late March : Giant Carrot May: White wave petunia hanging basket June/July: Tin Star and Flag Bunting August : Sunflower September: Indian corn and pumpkins ************** How about YOU? So I've seen a couple of people doing a list of what they have been doing these quarantine times, so thought to do some of my own as well. Mostly because while I'm holding off just fine, most of my friends are going crazy and running out of things to do. I was normal until last week I got Lay Off at work and now I have extra time for everything. So here are a couple of my own suggestions and how I'm holding up.
1. Read Books. Even those you have already read, go back to it. Read that book you have been postponing.
2. Movies Marathon. Watch all those sagas, watch them in order now that there is a pause in movies. If they have series, add them too. You got suggestions? Add them below! Some ideas:
Star Wars
Harry Potter
Twilight
Pirates of the Caribbean
Predator
Marvel
DC
Jurassic Park
Terminator
Bad Boys
Toy Story
Matrix
Shrek
Star Trek
Lion King
Disney Movies
Saw
Purge
Indiana Jones
3. Clean your room. Throw away/Donate those things you don't need or use anymore. Check all those clothe if they still fit. Organize and redecorate. Change the layout. Organize drawers. If you haven't done it in a while, find out how you'd like to paint your room. Go a little bit more and go for your house.
3. Don't stop in your room, go to the kitchen, laundry room, etc.
4. Learn drawing, do some sketches, practice!
5. Watch Series. All those series in your Netflix List? Take some time to watch them. Got suggestions? Add them below!
6. Write a fanfic. Best way to spend time because your mind will keep giving you scenarios at some point.
7. Board games! Cards! Try doing a card house. Play with your family.
8. Play games online. Download apps. There is a bunch of games to play and one can test your typing skills and race against others. https://play.typeracer.com/
9. Spa Day! Treat yourself! Feel good! My resource has been Pinterest. And good thing is that you start looking for something and find somethinf else that calls your attention and its like "Oh I should check that later".
10. Play Stop with your friends either if its conference or video call. I did it through video call and it was a blast. For those of you who don't know Stop, it a game in which you do a table of several columns with the titles od Name, Last Name, thing, animal, place (country or city wise), food or fruit, color, and you may keep adding on. Do it your own! After the table, someone says "A" outloud and continues the rest of the alphabet in their mind. Someone else says stop and they have to say in which letter they were stopped at and said letter will be the one to use to fill the table.
11. Nails! I am a person that loves to try new designs and things with nails. Mix colors, find idea, try doing a theme based nail art on your favorite movie or series. If you like it? Upload it to give ideas to others! My current one is something easy for Pirates of the Caribbean. I watched the movies the other way and still got two left to get ideas. You don't need a whole nail kit. I started with toothpicks and broken pens.
12. Talk with friends. Just a quick passing by to see how they are doing.
13. GAMES! If you have a console, go ahead and play. Have fun. Meet people. Finish those levels. Start a new one. Start a new game. Do it!
14. Look for crafting ideas. You can do things with newspaper. Just with things that you have home. Youtube can help with this and just Google in general.
15. Find fun ways to do your hair! I am one that my hair is what they call "dead". If I curl it 20min after I got nothing. Find different hair styles to rock for when this is over!
16. Cook! I don't cook at all, mom either (at least not in a daily basis, more like 2 week basis), so I don't think a good outcome would work. But try it!
17. Play. With. Your. Pets! Give them love! Shower them. Train them. JUST LOVE THEM!
18. Learn a new language! I have Duolingo and it has been quite productive. I do it in a different way though. You have an unused notebook? Take it and put it to use. You know how Duolingo divides what you learn? Ex. Pronouns, past, present, basic, etc.? Divide your notebook like that. Write the word, write the translation in your language (or another language if you want to spice things up), and write how you hear it/would pronounce it. Go up the highest level in each or try to do them in the same level a.k.a. Pronouns level 3, Nouns level 3, etc.
19. Learn something new! So the University of Harvard has a page where they have small courses of different topics. Best of all? IT IS FREE! Take one and learn! I'm currently doing one of the Pyramids of Giza! Super interesting! Page to view them: https://online-learning.harvard.edu/catalog/FREE?page=4
20. Plan your next or first trip! I have one planned for London, Paris, Spain for November this year. I still have my hopes up cause I have planned this so well. I don't want to give it up, I'm in denial. So what I do is check the places to go. It doesn't have to be for this year, but plan it out! Check places to visit and plan your budget! I might open a blog for trips (honestly a little bit of everything) so I'll keep you updated but if you have any questions on planning, hit me up! I do it in a way that even mom's friends trust me to plan everything for them.
21. Call your relatives! At least those you get along with. Make sure they are alright. Even if you haven't called them in a while I'm sure they will love to hear you are doing okay!
22. From the newspapers take out the Sudokus, Crosswords, Word Finders, have fun!
23. Write your future goals! Reflect on them!
24. Exercise! But do it in a fun way! Walk the dog. Go to Youtube and check those Dance Central, Just Dance exercise routines with your favorite songs!
25. Plan your next plans! What upcoming events you want to go to when this is over? Write them in the calendar and check information and follow up!
26. Read Comics online! There a few sites that have them free, the old ones and some of the new. Look them up!
27. Learn new games!
28. Sleep!
29. You miss sports? Rewatch your favorite matches.
30. Funny videos on Youtube! I found with my manager Shark Puppet and we couldn't stop laughing so find funny videos to watch by yourself or with friends, family and coworkers!
If anyone wanta to add ideas or suggestions or comments do so! If I find more I'll add them as reblogs. ❤
Stay safe everyone! Stay Home! Have Fun! ❤
