speaking of, im also really grateful for your patience. 🥲 this month has been kind of a shitshow in terms of creative projects; my tablet suddenly bricked and then i got sold the wrong tablet so i had to exhange my new stuff, and i had a bunch of other deadlines pushed back as a result. plus i lost my template and brushes for this webcomic so ive had to rebuild some stuff. 😅

im almost done catching up, after which i'll at least finish this "arc" (i think there's about three strips left?) and then i'l prob take another break to properly plan the entertainment district stuff, cuz i realized i'm prob gonna move it away from the red light district. idk how yet tho; my ideas have included maid cafe (so inotanzen can still go "undercover"), daki being some sort of popular influencer who organizes fan meets where people lowkey go missing, or she could even be an idol who only does night-time shows (and can u imagine if muzan had douma run some sort of agency and daki's one of his most popular products? hmmm will think more!).

I took some time to search for some OLD art of mine... there is nothing left that shows the absolute beginning. But I can explain a little how it went: (aka recreate some stuff)

Both Zoro pictures are from the same year. Don't know about you but sometimes my skills jump like crazy!! There are 10-15yo pics that look better than all what I can do today. Thats weird!

I grew up loving to draw. I did not do it to show it to someone in the first place. Since I had no speacial goal I got better very slowly, but that's fine. I never pushed my skills actively forward- so there's nothing to complain about.

The digital journey began with ms paint (left) I scanned the lines and used a mouse.

Paint net (right) still no graphic tablet but the program had line- and curve thingys I could draw with and of course.... Layer XD

I don't know exactly- but between this pictures might be 2 or 3 years. This is from my non shipping time. These days this is totally shipping content and you are not allowed to think otherwise XD Platonic love (bromance) seems not to be a thing online anymore. And I miss it.

Realistic stuff helped me. Everytime I tryed to draw irl people in manga/comic style - you had NO chance to recognise them XDD That got better haha

A little tip:

Write the date onto your artpiece. (onto the backside if you draw on paper) You'll be thankfull in a couple of years^^

And one other thing: If you desperately try to find your style: How you draw right now IS your style. And you (can) have different styles. It changes all the time! It's not an end point of your drawing journey- because there is none. Keep evolving. Find ways to draw you like. Even then, move on^^

January's Set of Fan Art/Doodles

OH GOD I ALMOST FORGOT TO POST THIS!! Good thing I just remembered before it was too late. I didn't get to draw and post this the day of but at least I got to post it before January ends.

I also tried to match the art style just like with other characters from other shows and stuff.

The set of Kindergarten fan doodles took forever to finish. It also felt forever getting back into the game. Idk why I put it off for so long I loved the game so much back in 9th grade.

Characters from my January interests (besides Willow I just wanted to draw him). 4 characters I drew because of reactions, 3 because I got into them myself, and Alastor for both and because I'm also watching Hazbin Hotel with my parents and sister. Also I miss Geologist Randy, ngl. 🥲 And I didn't even watch 101DS yet I'm watching the 90s show first and there's like 65 episodes 💀 AND THE SECOND MOVIE AFTER 😭 idek if they matter for 101DS

I just felt like drawing them. Probably my two most favorite villains of WC. They were also the two most heart broken. Huh.

There was gonna be another page of fan doodles but my tablet died and I don't think I'll have enough time to finish it when it's charged before midnight (my fault for putting it off tbh). just spent the past 30 minutes repairing my 11 year old tablet,,,

had to pop er open and found that the micro USB port was hanging on by 1 tab 🥲 resoldered the joints, but after 10 mins of it STILL not working I found out that I missed 2 extra tabs on it LMAO

now it's good as gold :D here's to another 11 years !!

How does procreate compare to sai for you out of curiosity ?

I’m kind of 50/50 about it.. like once you’re more familiar with the UI and how everything generally works it’s super straightforward which I appreciate! the whole brush customisation aspect is a bit overwhelming for me since im just used to fiddling with a few settings then running with it but now there’s a whole customisation bar so you can get it to exactly what you’re looking for …. which is nice in itself but for me who has like .. virtually no clue on what she’s doing or what any of these means im just ????? 😭 but downloading custom brush packs is so easy too so im not gonna bother with that for now lol

drawing on glass is still a bit tricky for me too it feels like im constantly fighting for grip if that makes sense. I think im still used to how my tablet draws bc the stylus’ nib was a bit sharper compared to the apple pencil’s but it did left scratches on the tablet itself lol. I also like how easy it is to adjust the canvas sizes since you’re just dragging it (compared to sai where you have to type in the exact dimensions) but I also don’t like how they’ll give you less layers the bigger your canvas is 🥲 like I generally work on 3000 x3000 and I’d like more than 100 layers alas

ONE THING that im severely missing is sai’s marker tool though, specifically the marker tool with my own config. like that’s literally my bread and butter and i use that pen in virtually everything - both lineart and colouring. imo that brush gives my prev drawings that soft looking feel (if that makes sense??? idk) but it also doesn’t have that drag that procreate brushes tend to have. like ive been trying to replicate it in procreate or at least find one that feels similar but I haven’t had any luck so far 😭🥲

all in all I do like it better than photoshop or even krita, but I think im just so used to working on sai that I still prefer it, esp since that has the marker brush (my beloved). my opinion will prob change once i do actual illustrations on it though since I haven’t done a fully rendered piece yet and i want to see how I’ll adjust my workflow with the layer constraints. i do like the fact that there’s no colour differences though since the ipad screen is really nice so you don’t have to worry about colours looking different in diff screens

I am, as usual, late lol, but Y'KNOW. This is gonna be a long, rambly post lol, sorry, I have a lot of thoughts.

2023 was a weird year for me, artwise. When it began I was still deep in my Art Block From Hell, which had begun in mid-2021 and lasted the entirety of 2022.

Being in the thick of such a ridiculously suffocating art block, for TWO AND A HALF YEARS, is like... I can't describe how fucking life-draining it is. It felt like something was fundamentally wrong with me -- like a part of me, which used to be as effortless as breathing or blinking my eyes, had ceased to function altogether. It wasn't just a regular art block, it was a complete identity crisis. I could no longer trust the instincts I'd honed over twenty-plus years, could no longer trust my sense of observation or my ability to recreate what I saw. I felt BROKEN, and every single time I picked up my tablet pen it was like I was scraping my insides with a spoon, trying to pick up whatever tiny dregs of dried-up, crusty shit I could manage to puke up onto my canvas. It was fucking painful and humiliating and completely demoralizing.

I'm not really sure what finally got me to do so, but sometime in summer (my memory is shit lol) I downloaded Game Maker, found a video tutorial on youtube, and just... gave myself over to it. I made myself learn how to use Aseprite, and working with pixels, making teeny-tiny little sprites, forced me to work in ways I usually don't. It was a lot harder for me to find the flaws in my art when my art was thirty-five pixels tall and the anatomy was stylized to communicate clear information rather than be a recreation or approximation of reality. I think I really do credit that time working on game dev as the thing that finally cracked loose all the gunk that was keeping me stuck -- I could not perpetuate the cycle of toxicity I'd fallen into because I could barely even conceptualize what 'good' or 'bad' pixel art even looked like lol. I just knew that I was making art, and for the first time in two years, it didn't feel like I was having to desperately beg the emaciated husks of my sense of self-worth and confidence to cooperate while doing so.

(I actually sort of abandoned my foray into game dev around August/September lol, as my adhd-brain, flitting around like a little hummingbird to every dopamine-rich-flower, is wont to do 🥲 But I wanna get back into it at some point!)

From there I had a rush of inspiration for an original project I've been mulling around in my head for years, and I wrote thousands of words in my worldbuilding document, made a map, developed the shell of a possible actual STORY. I returned to sketching. Conventional sketching. It was, at first, largely still comprised of that same demotivating struggle against myself, but I was so deep in the throes of inspiration (after several years of this project laying dormant in my google drive) that I NEEDED to sketch. So I kept going. And after a while, it got....... easier. And I started hating everything I made a little less. I painted, properly, for the first time in years. I stayed up late into the night, even if it meant I would be tired at work the next day, because drawing felt so damn GOOD again and I had missed that feeling so much. All I wanted to do was draw. For the first time in two and a half years, I could finally see the light at the end of the fucking tunnel.

I still don't think I'm quite out of the woods yet. My style is changing, as all artists' styles do over time, and that comes with stumbling adjustments. My confidence is still small and shaky and recovering; I still catch myself second-guessing what I've drawn, and even looking at some of the things here on my grid makes me cringe a little bit for one reason or another.

But compared to both 2021 and 2022, the volume of art, and in particular the volume of art I don't actively despise, is WAY higher, and I'm really really hopeful that that means I'm finding my footing again.

So! Here's to 2024, and to continuing to move towards the light at the end of the tunnel 🙏🌟 I'm gonna try.

So after a month of being extremely ill, I've been given medication that may help me, if they don't, I'll be put on the dreaded steroids. Which I've not had to go on since 2016? I think 🤔 it's been a long ass time since I was so bad I needed steroids to help me push through a health dip.

My chest is still swollen from my Long Covid, and my doctor believes that my body has basically gone through a domino effect, and my whole body has just shut down (aka everything is flaring and fighting each other and my body can't deal with it). It's now just finding the root of the problem, which he hopes these tablets will help! I'm really hoping that what I'm getting put on helps though 😓 (though I've to just continue to wait out my LC, it should be clear by now but my other health issues are delaying it)

I miss streaming 😔 I've tried a few times few months but everytime I try to go back my health tanks and I just end up pushing myself past my limits so I've taken another hiatus until I'm fully in the clear 🥲 however long that'll be.

And of course, art is going to continue being somewhat slower than usual because my brain and body are fried atm 😮‍💨

Idk if this is weird to ask out of the blue, but you’ve made me all nostalgic.

I played Shining Nikki back when it was Love Nikki, before the move to 3D. But that account was linked to a Facebook which I’ve since deleted, so I’ll be coming in completely fresh. Would you recommend starting playing again? I quit because the events had become completely unplayable without spending irl money. But seeing all your posts has made me miss it. And the newer clothes look amazing. The lighting/shading on the 3D models can look a little wonky to me sometimes. But the different poses! The amazing makeup! It makes me remember all the things I loved about the game 🥲

Okay, this is going to be a long answer probably but bear with me. First of all Shining Nikki is a separate game from Love Nikki so you would have to start over even if you hadn't deleted your Facebook account. The Love Nikki server is still up and running about the same as ever from what I can tell from other people who still play Love Nikki, but don't quote me on that because I deleted it when Shining Nikki came out I didn't have space for both on my phone.

As for spending money it depends on what you want out of the game. If you just want to complete the story and have a couple of cool outfits and accessories to need around with you can get that for free if you're patient and know how to manage your resources well. Diamonds can be saved up for hell events if you have more impulse control than I do and even then I am usually able to get some cool stuff with the pulls I can get even if I can't complete the set. The hell events do come at a pretty fast pace though. There's also benefits events happen fairly often where you can free outfits just for dying your dailies and you get free stuff on special occasions like server anniversaries and Nikki's birthday. Basically if you log in everyday wait you'll get something cool eventually. Some of the motion poses do cost money, but there are few one as well. The jump pose is free and they're going to give out a free dance move one in the inspiration space soon which is nice (or at least they did in the Chinese server so I assume that what the dance practice goal in the diary is for)

So basically it's not the easiest mobile game to play without spending money, but definitely not the worst out there either and I think the story and outfits are cool enough to be worth it. That said gacha games in general can be addictive and if that's something you are more vulnerable too you should steer clear of it or have someone else monitor the amount you're spending if you do decide to join.

It's takes up a lot of storage space and it doesn't always run very well on older or cheaper phones. If you have a tablet or something it might run better on that. I also know some people use an android emulator and play on the computer so that's also an option if it doesn't run well on your phone.

26/11/21 - Genshin challenge 16|16 (I messed the order up, there are still 2 drawings from that challenge to post 🥴🥴 the other ones that are missing were lost when my old tablet died 🥲🥲) Huuu!! I didn’t change anything on this drawing, but I regret it 🥴 I should’ve improved the contrast on her hair and the clothes, as she’s blending with the background. I could’ve played a bit with the lineart and border colors before posting, but 🫣🫣, I’ll just try to do better on my next Hu Tao drawing 🫶🫶 Whenever that will be…. I think the way she released was the weirdest among all the characters. She didn’t appear on the live stream, wasn’t mentioned at all anywhere (only leaks 😳😳). And then, some time after the release of the new update (it was Lantern Rite!) she just poofed into existence, as a third banner (one of them was KEQING!!! Nobody expected that). And! Third as 3 short back to back banners, and not like the double banners we have sometimes. Everyone just kinda agreed it was probably because talking about death is taboo in Chinese New Year. But we didn’t get any official explanation about that, and I still think that’s kinda crazy to this day.

Bye Bye 2022

So 2022 is ending in like 9 hours where I live so I'm making this post to explain what I'm planning to do in 2023.

First of all, I'm really happy to have joined the AssClass community on Tumblr, I met new people, made friends, saw really good contents and a lot of other things.

So now I'm gonna explain what I'm planning to do on this blog (⁠✯⁠ᴗ⁠✯⁠).

1. Writing

As many of you know, I'm currently writing a Ren-centric fanfic on AO3. I also have a lot more ideas for fanfic that I may write but for the moment I prefer to continue writing my fanfic, I just need to improve the way I'm writing, telling the story and try to make as few mistakes as possible (I'm still learning English)

2. Drawing

I really want to improve my skills in drawing so I think I will try to post a random drawing/sketch every week. Some people like @/solarsavoy, @/heyhellohihowareyou, @/verkanicat, @/fumiko-matsubara and much more people gave me the courage to continue improving my drawing skills, but the problem is that I only got a tablet with IbisPaint X on it and I don't really like to draw with my finger at all so be prepared to only see traditional art...

That's the only things that I'm planning to do in 2023, I'm gonna miss this year 🥲
