when i was younger, sometimes i'd go to relay something i'd learned to my dad and he'd start up his news reporter bit.
"we go now live to dr. <our last name>. doctor, what can you tell us about <whatever topic>?"
and sometimes i'd just laugh, sometimes i would elaborate with delight, and sometimes i'd be annoyed. i think 95% or more of the time he really did want me to "teach" him. even later in life, early adulthood for me, we'd still call each other just to tell each other something cool we'd learned recently. he usually didn't do the dr. lastname bit any more because it feels somewhat condescending to do that to a person working through undergrad, but he would prompt me for more details and always had great questions.
the bit has always stuck with me fondly. now, years since he's passed, it's even been making me think of going back to school. i think he would have liked that. i think dr. lastname was an attempt at subliminal messaging and maybe even a challenge. i think he wanted me to get used to the idea of my opinion being valued and my expertise being sought. i think from the time i was five he could see that graduation crystal clear in his mind's eye.
i've been yearning to go back to school again (though i think going for grad school won't scratch the itch that living on campus for undergrad left behind) and thinking on the bit. i almost want to go back just to honor him, just to introduce myself as dr. lastname and hear his voice in mine every time. haha, i almost want to go back just to avoid mr/ms questions by responding with dr.
#personal#i miss him. he'd have been an excellent grandpa.#as i've gotten older i've wondered frequently if i'm actually autistic because it would explain so many things.#so not only is this my dad encouraging his at the time *girl* to be her best in the way that many girls are discouraged from#this also hits me as him encouraging my nerdy little ass to infodump with no judging and no annoyance ToT#for every time my aunt called me smart ass/wise ass my dad asked for my expert opinion ten times#it's still so hard to believe he's gone sometimes. i keep having the dream with this ongoing continuity that he faked his death#and is actually still alive and i've just been forgetting to visit/call him like i should#and the dreams are so convincing. i suddenly remember every time that he's still around and i arrange a visit. sometimes i make it to him#in that dream and sometimes i don't. but it's not a reality that my brain wants to easily shake off when i wake. i usually wake up like#'oh yeahhhhh i SHOULD call him- oh.'#anyway. fuck that dream but also goddamnit bless it#at least i get to see him sometimes#grief#loss#parent death

Where did he go?
"HYUNG, HYUNG! Y/N HYUNG'S MISSING!" Garin shouted in fear, after searching the whole house. He'd forgotten no one else was home. He took out his phone and dialed Taeyong.
"Garin, you okay?"
"Hyung, Taeyong hyung, Y/N's gone!"
"What?"
"I searched the whole house!"
"And the others?"
"They went to mv filming."
"Okay okay." Taeyong said. "Garin, take a breath. Call one of your hyungs."
"Ok. I'll update you." Garin hung up and called Junyong, the elder responding almost immediately.
"Hey, Rin."
"Hyung, is Y/N Hyung with you?"
"No. Why?"
"He's gone."
"We're on the way home." Junyong spoke, after a good 2 minutes. "Stay there, alright? Did you tell Taeyong hyung?"
"I did."
"Okay, wait for us."

"Garin!" Yubin exclaimed, seeing Garin outside on the steps of the house.
"Hyung, he didn't bring his phone and it's out of battery."
"Shh, calm down Garin." Haewon said. "Well track him down, don't worry."
Soon, footsteps were heard, announcing 127's arrival.
"I told the managers." Taeyong panted. "They're trying to track his location."
"Problem after problem, his life is a mess." Junyong sighed. "He shouldn't have to deal with all this."
"I know." Taeyong sighed. "Let's just hope they find him..."
"Yeah..." Baekmin trailed off, spotting a figure walking tiredly towards the house.
"Y/N!" Yuhan, Yubin and Junyong rushed towards him.
"Where did you go?" Junyong asked worriedly, seeing red circles around Y/N's eyes.
"Hansung called me." Y/N said. "Hanbin passed away. I went to his funeral."
"Hanbin, your childhood friend?" Junyong asked.
"Yeah. That one."
"I'm sorry Y/N." Yuhan said. "Let's go inside?"
All 17 of them headed inside, minhan ushering
Y/N to go shower.
Baekmin and Yubin stated upstairs, so Y/N wouldn't do anything stupid. He was prone to doing things according to his feelings.
"Aish, hyung, you scared us." Yubin sighed, after Y/N came out. "Next time bring your phone and charge it."
"Yes, Dad." Y/N gave a small smile.
"You're older than us." Baekmin said playfully. "If anything, you're our Appa."
"Hell no. You always call Garin your son and I'm too young to be a grandpa."
"You'll be an excellent Grandpa!"
"Why're you talking about grandpa's?" Yuta asked. He'd been sent to check on them.
"Y/N hyungs a grandpa, caus' he's our father and Garin's my son." Baekmin answered.
"Well..." Yuta smiled. "Dinners arrived."
"Okay, coming." The three youngsters scrambled ove reach other to get downstairs, feeling exceptionally hungry after today's fiasco.

Meet Sienna
✦ MADISON ISEMAN, CIS FEMALE, SHE/HER ✦ SIENNA GREER the TWENTY-SIX year old has been in Hidehill for TWO MONTHS and was a STRANGER to Lucas Johnson, the missing persons. Whispers on the streets are that the VET TECHNICIAN AT THE PET DOCTOR who lives in HAGFIEL are said to be EMPATHETIC and SHY but I guess we’ll find out for ourselves. { MANDY, 36, PST, SHE/HER. }
full name:Â sienna faye greer gender and pronouns: cisfemale she/her age and dob: 26, february 14 1997 residence: hagfield time living in hidehill: 2 months occupation: vet technician at The Pet Doctor faceclaim: Madison Iseman positive attributes: empathetic, observant, genuine negative attributes: shy, gullible, absent-minded
Background : tw; cancer
Aside from the traditional first words like mommy, daddy, yes, no, Sienna's fifth mastered word was scary. She pronounced it softly, the R coming out a W and turning it into scawee. Her parents learned that there were a lot of things she found scary, and by the time she was two they were beginning to wonder if she was frightened by an usual amount of things. By the time she was five, Sienna was in therapy with a child psychologist. For all intents and purposes she didn't have any terrible traumas rooted in her fears, she was just, as the professional put it, an unfortunately biologically anxious and nervous little girl. Sienna never outgrew it, merely developed a slew of coping mechanisms with which to deal with her nervous nature so she could function in the world. But her natural approach to things was always cautious, flighty, like a deer in a meadow with white tail showing and body frozen as it tried to detect incoming danger.
She became a deeply empathetic child, though she found animals less intimidating to bond with than humans, the daughter that brought him stray cats and baby birds that had fallen from their nests so that she could nurse them back to health. Her parents encouraged it, because they never saw her as bright and fearless as when she was tending to a creature in need. It was no surprise when she expressed an interest in veterinary care, or that she excelled at her studies when she finally went off to college. What was a surprise was when she was almost done her second year of schooling and her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. The plan had been for Sienna to do a two year vet tech program, get an introduction to the field, get to know peers while paying off the first bought of student loans, then go back to school to become a veterinarian. That plan stopped when her mom got sick. It felt like everything stopped when her mom got sick.
Two years down the line and her mom was in remission, which was what mattered the most. Of course it was. But it would be a lie to say the trauma was passed, because the medical bills kept piling up and her parents were on the verge of losing their house, of declaring bankruptcy. That's when they got word that her paternal grandfather had passed away. Grandpa Greer sent birthday and christmas cards with steadfast assurance, but Sadie hadn't seen him since she was very young. He'd stopped coming to visit after a falling out with her father that they never seemed to mend. So Sadie was beyond shocked to hear that he'd left his property in a small Nashville town to her, and quite a substantial sum of money. The kind of money that would take care of her family's medical debts. The only stipulation was that the will dictated it be paid out to her in small monthly stipends over two years, and only under the condition that she live on his Hidehill property. Her father roared that it was manipulative and that his father was an ass even from the grave, but all Sienna saw was a way out. Not one that she was excited about, seeing as she read the news stories about Hidehill. But for her family she'd risk anything.
