Thinks oh so hard abt the spiraling upwards clan founders, especially the birchclan founders. Silly lil kitties who's pasts are drenched in blood with the primary regret of not drawing it sooner
#rat rambles#oc posting#warriors posting#spiraling upwards#long story short they had a shitty awful terrible leader who sucked absolutely ass and they tore him to shreds#I mean that literally they pinned him onto the mountain side and slashed and mauled the shit out of him so hard that his lives evaporated#and several of the cats involved in that scene are sill alive and major parts of the story and I love them#oh also the cat that pinned him through a stab through the throat was his own daughter btw everyone hated his ass so much#and for good reason get his ass#alas in the main story I dont rly get to go too deep into how he harmed everyone involved mostly just three main ones#aka bristlestar because shes murtlepaw's ghost mom dawncrackle because hes also haunting murtle and gullspot because shes bristle's kit#so basically all the flashbacks we get involve those three in some form or another#honeystar was also there and involved but Im not currently planning on having her rly talk abt that#most of her more modern angst is the fact that she was forced into leadership against her will#and shes been alive long enough that shes been leading birchclan far longer than she ever lived in her old clan#but she did go through a lot of shit before birchclan was founded and it definitely shaped her a lot#she used to be a very determined and high spirited lil kitty cat who tried to be optimistic#but her family began to slowly be picked off one by one by both the old leader and the one whod later get evicerated#some of the older cats around her hoped it make her back down from her revelutionary ideas but she noticed that and it backfired on them#instead of being worn down to submission she became absolutely Furious and began to lash out more and become more demanding#it got to the point that she really only had two friends in the entire clan and one of them was her aunt whod later also die after coming#out abt having witnessed the leader killing his own kits#that was the final fucking straw for her and she was fully on board when bristle and dawn started looking for cats to join their rebellion#she did get rly frustrated with them as they waited patiently for the right moment but her remaining bestie kept her from going apeshit#so once the big fight finally broke out she was more than eager to join the hoard of cats chasing the bastard upwards#now unlike some of the other cats involved this legitimately actually made her feel a lot better for a while#for the first time in ages she finally felt like she could be optimistic abt smth again and was excited abt the idea of leaving this place#she had lost so much in this damn place since she was an apprentice and just wanted to finally be able to rest easy#but once they got to their new territory and set up camp things went south real fast as a flood fucked everything up#and after losing the only cat she had left in her life and losing her tail and being made deputy on top of that she deteriorated quickly

Re: Reyna joining the Hunters and why I think it’s actually really depressing
So for a variety of reasons I’m not a huge fan of Reyna’s arc ending with her joining the Hunters of Artemis. Part of that is rrverse characters should be allowed to be single without joining the eternal celibacy club, but that’s not a problem exclusive to Reyna. I also think handling asexuality in the context of celibacy by choice is… messy by default, especially if it’s your one confirmed ace character.
Beyond that, though, there’s a bunch of context surrounding Reyna’s life and personality that just make that choice seem really sad to me?
I’ll split this into three thematic subsections and put the second and third one under the cut because this got pretty long
Reyna and her sense of duty:
I highly suspect Reyna’s fatal flaw is her sense of duty. This is never explicitly confirmed (because no one except Percy and Annabeth has confirmed fatal flaws), but duty is the theme her entire character revolves around. Basically from birth she’s raised to believe the fate of New Rome lies on her shoulders. A lot of her actions in the books explicitly link back to her sense of duty.
She runs herself ragged trying to find Jason and trying to manage a job made for two people on her own before Son of Neptune.
A lot of her conflict stems from the fact that what is necessary to protect her home (leaving her post and following Jason) inherently clashes with the rules of that home.
Reyna also actively chides others (like Lavinia in ToA) for leaving their posts and not sharing that same sense of duty.
Because of this, like Jason, Reyna is never really able to be a kid.
Joining the Hunters sort of does a good thing in that it allows Reyna to gain some distance specifically from New Rome, which her fate and also a lot of her trauma regarding her upbringing revolves around.
But it doesn’t allow her to be a kid any more than being a praetor at Camp Jupiter did. Potentially less so, actually, seeing as the Hunters are basically always on the move doing something important while at Camp Jupiter you probably have regular days off and a city to visit and relax in always right around the corner.
Reyna lays down one duty and immediately commits herself to the next one. She doesn’t grow and learn that she doesn’t have to carry the fate of the world on her shoulders. She just trades one burden for another.
—————————
Reyna and her emotions:
The timing of Reyna’s choice to join the Hunters seems really off. New Rome is mostly destroyed and just suffered a catastrophic amount of losses. Reyna absolutely has a right to step down as a leader, but this seems like an odd time for her to do it, especially considering she just completely up and leaves instead of at least sticking around to help rebuild her home and then join the Hunters after. As someone so fundamentally defined by her duties and her loyalty to New Rome, why does she spend half a day off-screen and then suddenly decide actually she’ll leave her destroyed home and all those grieving people for someone else to deal with? It just seems really out of character for her.
This begs the question: is Reyna really making that choice because she figured out it’s what she wants, or is it because she can’t deal with what happened? Because looking at all the destruction and attending all the funerals—deaths that happened while she was technically in charge but unable to be present, people she was supposed to protect—reminds her of every way she’s failed her home?
Also, Jason just died.
Jason was Reyna’s best friend for years. He was the first person she allowed herself to grow close to after her sister left her, and very possibly the first person she ever fell in love with. She never properly got to make up with Jason. Very likely they were both afraid to be hurt again. They both thought there’d be time for it later. But there wasn’t. There isn’t. She only got her best friend back in a coffin, and even in death, returning to New Rome (to her) wasn’t Jason’s choice.
Reyna leaves the place where they grew up together, the duties they used to share and all the memories—memories that were just hers, no longer his, since he never properly got them back—two days after she watched his pyre burn.
How much of that is her leaving because she wants to, and how much of it is the fact that she can’t keep her walls up and keep herself going in the place that used to be theirs, where Jason’s ghost is staring back at her at every corner? How much of her leaving is her unwillingness to deal with her grief?
Reyna running away from her feelings is an ongoing theme. It makes sense from a lot of different angles why she’d do it.
She was raised by an abusive father who often turned his feelings (what child Reyna would have seen as “love”, but was primarily paranoia/anger) against her and Hylla.
It’s also addressed directly that Reyna worries if she feels nervous or scared, her emotions will cause the camp to worry as well—her power is quite literally to project her own emotions outward, so if she does that with negative emotions (intentionally or unintentionally), it would cause problems. Suppressing them feels safer. On top of that, in her role as a leader, she has to provide a certain sense of confidence and assurance even when she herself doesn’t feel it.
Joining the Hunters instead of facing those feelings is not exactly a great way to heal in that regard.
————————
Reyna and the weight of Bellona’s prophecy:
As far as we’re aware, Camp Jupiter has faced more threats in the few years Reyna was in charge than it has in centuries. First the Titan war (which Reyna must have arrived partway through, depending on how early the Romans even knew about and were involved in what was happening there), then the war with Gaia, then the Emperors.
And obviously that’s not actually Reyna’s fault—Reyna is, in fact, a huge contributing factor to why these disasters weren’t a lot worse and didn’t claim even more lives. But this is all put on the shoulders of a girl who knows her fate is intricately linked to the legacy of Rome.
A girl who is already convinced that her love is fundamentally destructive and keeps other people from being happy. Her father spent her entire childhood suspicious of Reyna potentially betraying him—and, because she ended up killing him in self-defense, it’s very easy for a traumatized ten year old to internalize that maybe that suspicion was totally warranted. Then Circe’s Island gets destroyed. Then Hylla finds her happiness with the Amazons by leaving Reyna. Then Jason leaves her, seeming so much happier with Piper and Leo than he ever was with her.
Everyone she loves always seems to be happier without her.
So maybe the best thing she can do for New Rome—a home that she loves and that has faced so much destruction in the short time she’s spent there—is to leave.
Maybe the best way to keep New Rome safe (because New Rome’s survival is linked to Hylla and Reyna’s bloodline continuing to exist) is to make herself immortal and preserve it that way. Because, unless Reyna dies in battle, she could live centuries—potentially thousands of years—as a Hunter. She can’t ever properly go back to the home she loved, because that’s not how the Hunters work. But she’s still bound to her fate by her blood. She’s still doing her duty to New Rome by living as long as she can.
It’s not something she can ever be free of.
The worst thing about this is I think Reyna choosing to find a fate for herself outside of New Rome could have actually been a great way to conclude her arc, but god do I wish it was executed differently and actually given proper exploration/space to breathe instead of just resolved by taking her off-screen for a few hours and then sticking her with the group of female warriors that barely gets to have any plot relevance outside of conveniently coming to people’s rescue.
#Reyna is such a great character she deserved to have a proper arc but her ToA appearance especially was such a mess#reyna avila ramirez arellano#Reyna pjo#jason grace#hoo#heroes of olympus#jason and Reyna#ToA#trials of Apollo#the tyrant’s tomb#long post#rr crit

[餘智傳] The 2nd Century Warlord (Part 2)
based on the story by @romanceyourdemons
Read part 1
ninth day as a second century warlord i try to tactfully ask my fake liege lord if he sent the assassin to kill my loser liege lord and it turns out the idea of using assassins never occurred to him, but now that i’ve suggested it he’s really into it. in order to save my loser liege lord i volunteer to be the one to kill him
tenth day as a second century warlord on my way back to my loser liege lord’s city i realize i won’t be able to collect my men from my fake liege lord until i bring back my loser liege lord’s head. this would have been a great thing to think of before i got myself in this situation. i go back to my loser liege lord and ask him to rescue my men, and he tells me that if he could sack my fake liege lord’s camp he already would have. that doesn’t change the fact that my men are still trapped. they’re prisoners, even. i go back to my room to sulk
eleventh day as a second century warlord i find a little caged pigeon in the rafters of my loser liege lord’s room and deduce it belonged to the assassin. without asking permission or telling my loser liege lord goodbye i let the pigeon loose and follow it north. don’t ask what i was doing in my loser liege lord’s room. it’s not important
twelfth day as a second century warlord i disguise myself as a wizard and enter the camp of the coalition leader the pigeon led me to. in the middle of my little sleight of hand performance i make eye contact with the coalition leader’s second-in-command. IT’S THE WIZARD THAT STOLE MY LOSER LIEGE LORD’S WIFE. after the banquet i corner the fake wizard and ask him what the fuck is going on and he just says “wouldn’t you like to know” and leaves. i don’t know what to say to that so i just let him go
thirteenth day as a second century warlord i’m honestly so sick of not knowing what’s going on, so i adjust my wizard costume to passably disguise myself as a woman and break into the women’s area of the camp, where sure enough my loser liege lord’s wife is. i ask her what she’s doing here and she tells me the fake wizard overheard her singing a poem she overheard on the street, not knowing it contains the coalition leader’s formation’s weaknesses. the fake wizard kidnapped her and assigned an assassin to kill her husband before they figured out the poem’s significance. she shares the first couplet with me but i’m discovered and thrown out before she can share any more. she doesn’t need to. through a bizarre coincidence of homophones, it’s the poop version of my misinformation nursery rhyme
fourteenth day as a second century warlord i go back to my loser liege lord and tell him everything, urging him to join with my fake liege lord to attack the coalition leader according to the weaknesses in the nursery rhyme. he tells me frankly that he doesn’t trust me anymore. i ask him to execute me if that’s really true, because i can’t bear to live if i can’t protect him and i can’t protect my men. he agrees to attack the coalition leader
fifteenth day as a second century warlord. due to the information in the nursery rhyme, and thanks to my loser liege lord reminding me of the weather conditions multiple times while planning our battle strategy, our alliance carries the day. my loser liege lord gets his wife back. my men tell me that our fake liege lord actually treated them really well and they’d like to stay with him if i don’t mind. i do mind, now that neither the men i love nor the man i love have any use for me, but i don’t tell them that
sixteenth day as a second century warlord i’m preparing to leave to i don’t know where, maybe to try to become a wizard for real, when my loser liege lord stops me and asks me where i’m going. he says he had hoped i would continue to work as his advisor. i was unaware i was his advisor in the first place. i agree, and he tells me he’s truly honored to have me in his service at last. he has known i am a rare and talented man with a strategic intelligence far above his ever since the day he witnessed me tying branches to my horses’ tails in six inches of mud, and could not for the life of him figure out why
The end.
Thanks for reading! Notes under the cut
CORRECTION#1: the warlord's courtesy name was incorrectly written as Yú zhī 餘知 [plentiful knowledge]. my dumbass did not realise zhī 知 [to know] is a GOD DAMN VERB. It should be zhì 智 [wisdom].
CORRECTION#2: the clothes from part one are from the WRONG DYNASTY!!! BY 1200 YEARS!!!! it's meant to be HAN not MING.
#9 Misreading the standards: Loser Liege's name is Yue, so I decided to go with Lè/Yuè 樂 [optimistic/music]. I made the Chad Liege's name Cháo 巢 [nest] which is pronounced identically to Cáo 曹, the infamous IRL warlord. Just like his IRL counterpart, he is the affable, lawful-evil boss who is kind to his employees. I went ALL OUT designing Lord Chad Chao's outfit. He's got so much drip the yangtze river is about to break its banks. Now THAT'S a main character!
#10 Wardrobe Malfunction: the soldiers are now wearing clothes from the correct dynasty. i even gave them grass sandals! I really wanted to show how utterly outclassed they are, this is the difference between a peasant militia and a professional army. (They're in the exact same poses as part 1, except more terrified).
#11 mountain-water art: man i love doing traditional style backgrounds, the white space is very pleasing. Does it make sense to camp your coalition out in the mountains? No. Is it cool? Hella.
#12 you're a wizard, hairy: my favourite detail is the pigeon from day 11 sitting on the warlord's hat. I had to cut SO MUCH from this scene because there wasn't room. There was going to be musicians, jesters and strongmen. (Based of funerary figures)
I wanted to make it clear that the Coalition Liege is the richest guy of all, but he is all style and no substance. He's got an army of dancing girls and drunk officers. You get the feeling that his Chief Strategist aka Fake Wizard aka Zhuge Liang Knockoff, disproves.
#13 Hua Mulan: RIP the Warlord's beautiful beard ;n; He's wearing one of the dancing girl's outfits and I like to think the ladies helped him do his makeup too. I wanted to add a little character moment for the Wife and Warlord. They're holding hands which is not strictly proper, but I wanted to show the intensity of the emotions.
#14 the supplicant: I really like the framing here, I wanted both faces to be visible so we can see what they're thinking.
#15 enemy of my enemy: the Warlord is finally in command and flying his standard Huáng 黃 [yellow]. He is wearing a wu guan with two pheasant feathers, for a high ranking military official.
#16 the romantic subplot: the Warlord and his Loser are tenderly holding hands while the Wife and Noble Steed looks on with approval. I wanted the handholding to be slightly awkward and kinda spontaneous, like they were both aiming for a manly, platonic hand-clasp but veered wildly off-course into homoeroticism. In the background, an oblivious Lord Chad is showing off the little wooden horse one of his new soldiers gave him (that guy's been carving it since part 1, it's high time we acknowledged his hard work).
Want to learn more about the (mostly) true story that inspired this post? Check out Romance of the Three Kingdoms! TV show, the book and the movie Red Cliff,

Its my first time requesting something so sorry if this doesnt make sense;;
Can i ask for some Jade or Rook with a curious reader who tends to wander off or get distracted easily due to it?
I love ur writings and general energy!!! Thank you! 💝
How about both?? >:33
TWST A curious s/o who gets distracted and wanders off easily
Jade Leech
My oh my were you hard to look out for during the Vargas Camp.
Everything was practically something that made you curious to the point you skipped from one place to another.
“Jade, what type of mushroom is that?” “Ah, well s/o, that’s a Honey Fungus, which is actually pathogenic and- s/o?” Jade trailed off, noticing you were out of sight as he explained about the mushroom’s facts. The eel would find you standing in another area, looking up high at a tree in awe.
“Jade what species of trees is that?” That would continue on and on, even while doing the tasks assigned by Vargas which the eel will admit that you are indeed quite troublesome to look after…
…but that makes it all the more fun. Fufu~ you’re quite a tough one looking after, aren’t you? He loves that you love to discover things, and he loves that spark of curiosity you always give! It’s just that sometimes you just get too carried away and… wander off from his sight. That in itself is a little tiring but never ceases to amuse the Octavinelle vice dorm leader.
Would it be hard to imagine Jade wearing a harnest that has a rope tightly attached to a harness that you’re wearing so that you wouldn’t stray off from him? No? Good-
Jade wore that only during the camp (and maybe when he also invited you to his Mountain Climbing Club activities). Other times when you walk to class together, he holds your hand and walks you to class so that you wouldn’t get distracted along the way and stray off from the path to your classroom (which he was surprised and amused by the fact that you have before), or on a date would sit close to the aquarium to satisfy your curiosity, he would hold your hand to get your attention.
“So, may I ask how was your day…” once again, he catches you staring at the fishes swimming aimlessly in the tank. He gently squeezes your palm as you snapped out of your daze and looked at him. “H-huh? Oh, sorry about that,” you replied sheepishly.
Jade chuckles, shaking his head as he flashes you a soft, teasing smile. “Fufufu~ what shall I do with you?~” <3
Rook Hunt
Ah! You’re a curious mon cheri, how delightful! Rook finds this trait of yours attractive, unlike most people who finds it rather troublesome.
In fact, he humours that curiosity of yours and follows you around. Rook has basically become your tour guide around NRC and the wild, he knows a lot so it isn’t surprising he has most of the answers to your question.
However, there’s a teensy tiny issue that he finds this habit of getting easily distracted a bit of a hassle: you’ll be oblivious to the dangers and hazards around you.
One time during the Vargas Camp you were distracted (once again) and wandered to a forested area with Rook trailing behind.
Before you knew it, you almost got hit by a tree if not for Rook swiftly pulling you back by the shoulders, pulling you so that your back touched his chest. “Mon cheri, be careful! You almost hit your face into a tree!” That was when Rook knew you would need a little bit more supervision.
Rook made sure to always be by your side (sometimes in peculiar ways-), making sure you’re guided in your path of walking while being your tour guide and making sure you don’t wander off far away from campus.
The vice dorm of Pomefiore makes sure to hold your hand, pulling you away or snapping you back to reality when he feels is too dangerous to wander into.
Even so, Rook loves that you’re always curious. Just make sure to be careful even if he keeps close tabs on you.
“Mon cheri, please be careful while exploring! If not, I will explore with you!” <3

Bro, I love Antilochus, Patroclus and Achilles' friendship so much. I feel like their dynamic is something like Patroclus cooking, Achilles looking at him with heart eyes, and Antilochus looking at both of them as if they had set the stars in the sky. Something like:
Patroclus: 😑
Achilles: 😍
Antilochus: 🤩
Antilochus being always so happy about them. Hell, he loves and admires these guys SO MUCH. He doesn't even mind being the third wheel. Like yeah, Achilles has been silent for about 10 minutes now just staring at Patroclus while Patroclus explains about horse care and Antilochus is the only one actually asking Patroclus questions, but still! Patroclus also doesn't care that Achilles clearly isn't listening properly and is just looking at him like a besotted idiot, Antilochus won't shut up (like father like son, I suppose) and that's great. As for Achilles…well, he's got his handsome man to stare at and he's got a close friend who admires him, is there anything better for a person's ego??? As if my god Agamemnon forgot to invite me to the party, I'll cry into my man's muscular thighs and have my hair stroked by him while my other best friend keeps repeating how I'm completely right to have fought with our leader and reaffirming what a great guy I am.
I like to imagine that Antilochus was always so excited, happy and blushing at every compliment that people at the camp began to theorize that they were a trisal or something. But no, he just loves and admires his friends too much. Likewise, Antilochus isn't a lover of Achilles, but that doesn't change the fact that Achilles loves him very much, so it is only natural that Antilochus' death causes Achilles to take revenge on him by killing Memnon and that Antilochus is also included in the urn in which his and Patroclus' ashes are. It's no wonder that in the versions where Achilles is in Leuke, Patroclus and Antilochus are there. When Homer describes the dead at Asphodel, Patroclus and Antilochus appear close to Achilles. And there was a temple of Achilles that also had dedications to Patroclus and Antilochus. These three have SO much friendship potential... Patroclus and his two excited and fast guys, Achilles and his two doomed best friends, Antilochus and his two brilliant and scary friends.
Bonus/Details:
Fun fact: In the part where I said that I imagine Antilochus can be quite talkative because I have the headcanon that he resembles Nestor in this, I actually used a popular Brazilian saying, but I changed it because I wasn't sure if it would make sense in English (I wrote like father like son). But for those who are curious, the saying is: son of a fish, baby/little fish is. It may have variants, for example: son of a shark, baby/little shark is. It's to indicate that someone resembles their parent, and I found it funny because the animals used are aquatic and Nestor is a grandson of Poseidon because his father, Neleus, is a demigod of Poseidon with Tyro. Consequently, Antilochus is a great-grandson of Poseidon. Suitable animals for them, I would say!
About the invite: The thing about Agamemnon forgetting to invite Achilles and Achilles getting angry is real, although there is no mention of Patroclus or Antilochus in this. It's in frag 1 of The Cypria, which says: "Next they sail as far as Tenedos: and while they are feasting [...] Here, too, Achilles quarrels with Agamemnon because he is invited late."
About horses: In Philostratu's Heroica, Antilochus's description says "He gave me the following details about Antilokhos: He was most fond of horses and hunting with dogs, even using times of truce in the fighting for hunting. At any rate, Antilokhos frequented Mount Ida with Achilles and the Myrmidons, and when he was on his own, he would hunt with the Pylians and Arcadians, who provided a market-place for the army because of the great number of animals caught. He was noble in battle, swift-footed, quickly moving when armed, easily understood orders, and did not lose his pleasant manner even in battle", so now I have a headcanon of that he would be 100% focused on Patroclus's wise words about horses, especially because Patroclus can handle a pair of divine horses.
About Leuke: In one version of the myth, Thetis asks Poseidon to create an island just for Achilles. Poseidon does so, and after his death Achilles doesn't go to the Underworld, but is taken by Thetis to this island named Leuke. In addition to Achilles, other characters listed in the myth include Antilochus, Patroclus, the two Ajax, and Achilles' wife (who varies between Helen and Iphigenia, but is usually Helen). In a more unusual version, Achilles has a son with Helen on Leuke, but Zeus kills him (Photius preserved this specific version, if I'm not mistaken). The oldest recorded source mentioning this version is the lost epic Aethiopia, but it was mentioned in later literature, continued to exist even in the Roman period and even encouraged a cult of Achilles on an island that has been identified as Leuke. According to a Roman source, the cult of Achilles in the Black Sea also included a cult of Patroclus. According to archaeological discoveries, it included Thetis as well.
About the dedications: The temple of Achilles which also had dedications to Antilochus and Patroclus also included Big Ajax. It was mentioned by Strabo: "Near the Sigeium is a temple and monument of Achilles, and monuments also of Patroclus and Antilochus. The Ilienses perform sacred ceremonies in honour of them all, and even of Ajax." .

hi! okay this is insanely long but i had a lot of thoughts so bear with me pls.
i was scrolling through the jercy tag bc i'm starved and saw ur posts abt rhea/kronos & percy/jason and have to say i love them sm!! it's such an interesting concept and i've got a lot of cool thoughts abt them now thanks to you, buttt,, may i also offer metis/zeus & percy/jason parallels? it's a little stretch but hey idc it's fun
metis is the daughter of oceanus, percy is the son of poseidon (at both times, they're a child of the ruler of the seas) zeus is the son of kronos, jason is the son of zeus (at both times, they're a child of the ruler of the universe) metis & zeus met and fought a war to end kronos together...percy & jason unknowingly fought together during the titan war to end kronos and they do meet and work together during the giant war! and they make a great team, like in the twin giants fight
metis was a goddess of wisdom i'm pretty sure? and was zeus' advisor. i am a firm hater of the "percy is stupid" train because honestly it's percy who makes most of the battle strategies in pjo.
in fact here's some unwarranted examples: realizing what the lotus casino was, tricking crusty, figuring out the whole lightning thief debacle, giving clarisse the fleece, clearing chiron's name, figuring out he needs to take the sky, finding the nemean lion's weak spot, figuring out rachel is their guide for the labyrinth, all of his actions in the battle of manhattan tbh like he was crazy for doing all that at age 16!!, scaring chrysaor’s crew, making the combination of demigods to get nike, etc etc- i could go on and on!
so, i feel he can be related to metis in that he would be a pretty great advisor and obviously he'd be a fantastic leader. athena herself says the requests (read: demands) percy makes at the end of the second titan war are wise!
also think it could be interesting if poseidon delibrately chose to have percy look like metis. they'd probably look similar anyway but if poseidon wanted zeus to have some hesitation in killing percy, creating him to look like someone zeus greatly wronged in the style of kronos (aka eating someone) could do it?
anyway, moving onto jason! who, like zeus, is the youngest son and has a lunatic father that treats him like shit,, and at first zeus served kronos! just as jason did, but hey, if jason hadn't died when he did,, how long would he have continued to serve zeus?
rhea took zeus from kronos to be raised in crete by nymphs, like hera took jason from zeus to be raised in camp jupiter by wolves. and like rhea, hera is always on jason's side and honestly based on her toa reaction to his death, likely loved him like a son. and we know hera fucking hates zeus like rhea hated kronos.
jason is also strong as fuck, and ik rick knocked him out in every book because he didn't actually want his forced-percy-rival to actually showcase his powers but from what we know and seen he's like insane as well. PLUS he's been training since he was like 3 ik he's strong asf and zeus is sweating.
parallels😁!! uh let's hope jason doesn't eat percy though /j
i know zeus would've recognized these parallels and got insanely paranoid bc yk him. ik zeus was exhaling in relief when jason died, and there's a reason he was always trying to kill percy. he saw his sins in him! everytime he looks at percy he sees the woman he tricked and treated like shit and more-or-less killed. but he also knows metis was smart and very capable, n that's scary to him. everytime he looks at jason he sees his younger self, and that's a horrible thing to see if you're zeus lmao
of course jason is much better than zeus and percy is fairly different from metis, but it's the small parallels and zeus' paranoia that makes everything bigger.
the act we know metis most for is supplying the poison for kronos to regurgitate his kids,, and percy has a pretty close connection to poison now after his fight with akhlys :)
but yeah!! fun parallels :') sorry if this was a lot to read/hard to read
bonus: metis & zeus r cousins just like percy & jason /j
Now!!! Hear me out!!! I loooove the Metis X Percy parallels, I never talked about it here because some things I keep for the fics 🗣️🗣️🗣️ but I totally GET YOU!!!
The thing about Rhea is that they prob look a loooot alike, so people (mostly the big six and, maybe, Kronos) attribute her whole persona to Percy’s even tho many things make zero sense. Because they want him to impersonate their mother somehow to feel their void. Others might think of him more of a Perseis kinda of person, just for the destruction thing. But Metis? She was gone before most Olympians were alive, so it’s not like they have a truthful idea of what she was like, and those who remember might not have been as close to her as Zeus.
Metis was the Titaness of good counsel, planning, cunning and wisdom. Which makes us think that Athena would be a lot like her, but I personally think Athena is more a Zeus mini me. Metis being an ocean’s kid and a titaness made me believe she was a lot wilder and not exactly the usual embodiment of these concepts. Which would make her much more of a wild card, so Zeus got rid of her when the prophecy about their son showed up. So like, I can see Percy embodying Metis’ aspect of these domains (while Annabeth would be more Athena-like), and Zeus being like…
In terms of looks, she and Percy might’ve not looked the most similar, but hey, Metis would question Zeus’ authority in front of the whole council and would call out his shit whenever she felt like it.
Jason, however, is a much tamed version of his father. In a good sense. He’s not cruel, and when he’s forced to make a choice that he feels bad about it haunts him. He’s not overly confident and proud. Beyond all, he was taught loyalty to Rome and the gods from a young age, contrary to Zeus who was taught rebellion and how he was supposed to be this great saviour. For a while, this probably made Zeus more comfortable about him than he probably was about Thalia, for example, or even Percy.
But romans and Greeks learn about each other and now Jason and Percy meet and turns out Jason is SMITTEN with his cousin? Yeah, that’s a problem. Zeus would seethe, and Hera would be 100% smug about it.
Suddenly, there is something that Jason cares more than Rome or the gods. That is dangerous.
Also, something about Percy being somehow paralleled with TWO titan queens is just…

Reading TLH again #4 - the tragedy of Jason/Piper
So we shall begin Piper McLean's character arc!
We had 2 chapters of Jason and in the third, Piper takes the reels of the narrative and we get to know her more inwardly.
I would like to begin this meta stating how Piper, from the three new demigods, are the most calm one.
While Jason is sort of used to this magical world, he feels confused and, because he is a logical person, feels the need to question everything, even if, deeply inside, he already knows the answers to his questions.
Leo is, apparently, excited by the new world he got into. He is curious and not afraid of new things, so he seems happy and satisfied in securing a place for himself in that strange magical camp.
So: Jason is still confused (this phrase is getting repetitive, but this is basically Jason's mental state through the whole book), Leo is excited and Piper is...feeling dreadful, but weirdly accepting.
It made me remember how Piper is actually a really cool-headed character. She doesn't freak out much. From what I remember, she usually keeps her worries and fears for herself, which makes a lot of room for misunderstandings and omission (one of the things that annoyed me about her in my first read).
Interesting observation #1: Piper is in love with Jason
She seems to be deeply in love with him, which is really sad since we already know he was an illusion. Their relationship starts pretty badly because of these manufactured feelings she has for an idea of him.
She is disturbed by the fact that he acts like he doesn't know her. It is, in her view, the most worrying thing that happened in the day.
This is sick u guys, I feel bad for them.
Another thing that made me think about their situation: Piper was the one actively seeking Jason's attention before they met.
Even in her fantasy, she is the one doing the groundwork. It makes Jason appear as a dense boy lol (spoiler: he kinda of is).
And then she tells us that their "relationship" is new. She spent a whole semester working on it before they got together. For her, they were best friends before being lovers. She has been hallucinating with Jason for at least 6 months now.
She can already feel Jason slipping through her fingers like sand. He is escaping her, going far away, somewhere she can't follow. Except she never really had him. He was never hers for her to lose, so what, exactly, is she losing then? Or rather, who?
Their beginning is a tragedy (and so is their ending), but is so much more sad reading their circumstance through Piper's emotional point of view. She feels like she owns him something, and that he owns her something in return. They were supposed to be a pair.
Another thing I would like to comment: Jason has a powerful aura, but if you look closer, he also gives sad vibes. He is a sad character. If Percy is anger, Jason is sadness. (I will make a post especially analyzing the seven's dynamics later)
Interesting observation #2: Annabeth's suspicious already
Annabeth's first feeling towards Jason is ressentiment, like we saw previously.
Here, her ressentiment turns into outright distrust. She is suspicious of him and his entire demeanor is not helping. Annabeth is smart, she is the kind of character that usually doesn't have difficult into look past beyond the Gods schemes.
She knows, she feels, that Jason has something to do with Percy disappearing. The fact he screams NOT GREEK is not helping too.
Jason always has answers he is not aware and Annabeth sees he has history.
Their dynamic is super cool in MoA, seeing them in the beginning is very amusing. They are similar in a lot of things, both are great leaders for the rest of the crew in the Argo II, but here they are getting under each other's skin. Annabeth because of distrust and Jason because of wariness.
Interesting observation #3: The late claim of Leo and Piper
Does anyone else thinks about this weird timing surrounding Leo and Piper's claim?
We know Leo has history with Hera. She has been in his life since he was a kid, so I kind of buy the idea of her shielding his existence until the right time for her plan.
But Piper? From what I remember, the gods didn't meddle with her life until now, in the Wilderness School. I don't understand why Aphrodite took so long to claim her. After the war, every kid should have been brought to camp at 13, and those older should have been there already.
They both don't describe weird encounters with random monster like Percy do in TLT too, so I assume nothing out of ordinary happened in their life up till now (except the whole Leo fiasco, but that wasn't a monster, so I'm not counting).
Coach also says that they are powerful, and their scents are quite strong (not big three strong, but still), so why this timing is so off?
Anyway, I don't have an absolute answer to this, but is something that makes me wonder about things, so I brought it here. Any theories?
Interesting observation #4: Percy's disappearance being a huge thing
The entire camp feels his absence. Percy had rough years at camp, and fought a war to protect it. Everyone there recognizes him as a leader and look up to him for guidance and inspiration (like they did with Luke). This is so satisfying to see, how loved he is!
Percy is not in the book physically, but he is still everywhere. Literally haunts the narrative, I love it (i miss him)!
Interesting observation #5: Piper is fast to judge
From the very first time she lays her eyes upon Drew, she knows they aren't going to be buddies.
Drew also traces fast judgment towards Piper, so maybe is an Aphrodite kid thing, analyzing and defining people in seconds.
Right after we have a lil leader!Jason moment, where he starts asking the important questions for the three of them:
And Piper starting her betrayal arc being sketchy:
Interesting observation #5: Piper can be violent
We had already seen her ready to knock storm spirits without prompt, and now we have her ready to smack Drew's face because she said Piper's hair looked like a dead badger (this is such an Aphrodite kid thing lol)
Bonus points for Piper's quick people judgment (also a very Aphrodite kid thing to me), cause she knows right away to not mess with Annabeth:
Interesting observation #6: Leo is the first being claimed
Jason doesn't count to me cause he already is claimed, he just doesn't remember (and Zeus doesn't acknowledge him). I assume Piper is claimed later because Aphrodite loves to put up a show.
But Hephaestus is pretty efficient in claiming Leo right away. He is a very straightforward god after all, so it makes sense.
Interesting observation #7: Will is Leo's assorted tour guide, and possibly his first Camp Friend
Their interaction is so small and in the beginning of the first book of a series of 5 books that we tend to forget that, before his brothers and sister, Leo's first camp friend/acquaintance was Will Solace. Odd friendship, I know, but it was there for a chapter at least.
Interesting observation #8: Piper is still thinking of Jason as her boyfriend
Piper is getting a whiplash next chapter when Annabeth explains what is happening with Jason to her, because right now, in her head, she still has a boyfriend. A boyfriend who is acting very weirdly, but still her boyfriend.
In the next hours, she is losing him for real. Poor Piper.
And Annabeth is still finding Jason's existence unnerving. His mere presence is rising lots of questions in her head. I love how Annabeth is zero chill, the girl is always plotting or trying to dissected the plot.
Interesting observation #9: Jason has 12 years of military service. He is 15.
Man, Camp Jupiter go all out on the claiming of their kids uh? They literally burn the tattoo on your skin, marking you one of their own.
Jason has been in the legion for twelve years. At this point in the timeline he is 15 y.o. Make the calc guys, this boy has been in active duty since he was THREE YEARS OLD. Unbelievable.
No wonder why Jason has almost none rebel cells in his body. They indoctrinated him with military mentality since, like, forever. All he has always known was duty and honor. Never questioning, always serving. That is part of the reason why he is The Order and Percy is The Chaos. They are foils.
Here we have a lil moment of Jason being tired of people asking questions he doesn't know the answer to. Let ma boy rest, he is amnesic:
Kudos to Annabeth being the unquestionable Camp Leader, ultimately respected by her peers:
With this, I rest my case. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Pokemon Horizons Episode 46 Review - Terastal Debut
What I like most about this episode is that so much is given out and it’s explained so thoroughly. Instead of having the kids go on a Treasure Hunt like in the game, Liko, Roy and Dot enroll in Naranja Academy’s Terastal Course. It turns out that the school allows students from all over the world to enroll in the course to learn more about Terastal as permitted by Director Clavell and Chairwoman Geeta.
Dendra gives an explanation of how the course works. To study Terastal, students must defeat Gym Leaders according to their aptitude. There’s also a condition as students can only have two chances to challenge a Gym Leader and if they acknowledge their skills, they pass. Also, students cannot terastalize outside of battles not revolving around the Terastal Course; this means that regular trainer battles do not permit Terastalizing. Liko gets paired up with Katy, Roy gets paired up with Brassius and Dot gets paired up with Iono. The kids get camping equipment as they have to camp out for the course. Dot is definitely not amused that she has to touch grass for a while now.
There are so many characters introduced here that it’s insane. Alex and Lucca, Liko’s parents, return and are actually seen together. It’s sweet that she has loving parents. Given that Lucca is a teacher, she doesn’t seem to work at Naranja Academy and probably works elsewhere. That’s an interesting detail. Then we have Clavell who wears the Scarlet version of his outfit. Then there’s the Pokemon League members with Geeta and the Elite Four showing up. It’s crazy how they all just show up at the school like it’s normal business to patrol the school or something. There’s also the debut of Penny who has no lines. I guess she’s forced to work for the League in this iteration, but it’ll be cool if Team Star gets implemented into the story. Jacq and Dendra make their debuts as teachers. They still teach their respective subjects of Biology and Battle Studies. Dendra is the one who explains the course to the kids while Jacq tells them that he wants reports from them as they are still students at the end of the day. Nemona makes her reappearance with a newly evolved Pawmot. In her first appearance, her Pawmo was the butt of a recurring joke where it got sprayed by Brassius’s Doliv’s oil twice. Here, Nemona is now the butt of the recurring joke as her desire to battle Roy gets interrupted by staff and the school bell.
The biggest surprise in terms of character returns is Ann who has transferred to Naranja Academy to partake in the Terestal Course with her newly evolved Dewott. The battle between her and Liko was really well-animated. Liko and Ann were very strategic and used various tactics to one-up each other. My favorite part of the battle was when Dewott used Aerial Ace and its fists glowed up and tried to punch Floragato. I hope Ann battles more in this arc because it’d be a waste to not let her battle when she’s very capable.
Another surprise is the Explorers coming in to partake in the course too. Sidian and Coral arrive late, and use very terrible pseudonyms in order to pass as students. Fortunately, they were able to get in because Chalce is disguised as a teacher and was able to hack them into the database. The Explorers are doing this because they were tasked to keep an eye on Liko. There were two things I liked about the Explorers segment. The first is Coral laughing her head off when Sidian introduces them as Onigiri and Sandwich, which she then accepts. The second is the fact that Liko, Roy and Dot recognize them and isn’t suffering from face blindness that Ash and his friend suffered through for 25 years when it came to Team Rocket’s disguises.
Last but not least, the Rising Volt Tacklers are doing their own thing right now. Orla is in charge of the Brave Olivine repairs. Mollie and Ludlow are caring for Pokemon. Murdock is working at what seems to be Patisserie Soapberry as his outfit looks similar to Katy’s. Friede is going to research the Six Heroes as he has the Ancient Pokeballs and Lucius’s belt in his possession as Liko goes to take the Terastal Course. It’ll be cool to see what the other RVTs will be doing in future episodes.
As a whole, the entire episode was a very good introduction to the third chapter. The pacing was great in terms of squeezing in everything that was needed. The new opening and ending songs were great too! I think it’s amazing how they managed to get IVE, a K-POP girl group, to sing in Japanese for Horizons. Since K-POP is rather popular in Japan and they have been using KPOP groups for different anime openings for various animes, it was about time that Pokemon would do the same. It shows that this arc will be one to remember with the new changes! It does feel like the quality has stepped up here. I’m honestly hyped up for what’s to come. What about you?

I thought the grove and the cult were the same thing? Now I'm confused by the fact that they may not be? Then how did Jack find out about the cult in the first place, it had to have been before Minnie passed, because I believe it's hinted at that the deal he made with the devil is what killed her, and that he just put her out of her suffering by her own command. So how did he find the cult? And then why would the grove have such importance (I also thought that the grove was what was being shown during the photo sequence during Jack's hallucination near the end) if you can explain please do! /Nf
hi, anon! i'll explain a bit of the different groups and my thoughts on where they overlap!
the grove is something that actually exists in real life! it's a private gentleman's club that is made up of some of the most powerful men. some of these include past presidents, executives, high ranking officials, business leaders, artists & musicians. they do a two week encampment together during july in this very large land they have (called bohemian grove!). they have different camps and I suspect the owl in the film was supposed to let us know that we were in Owl's Nest (one of the camps!) since the founding of the club, the bohemian grove's mascot has been an owl, symbolizing wisdom. a 30-foot hollow owl statue made of concrete over steel supports stands at the head of the lake in the grove. it designed by sculptor and two-time club president Haig Patigian (wonder if this is why carmichael's ;ast name is haig, hah). the owl shrine has served as the backdrop of the yearly cremation of care ceremony. imagine the grove as some place where the rich and powerful men can basically say "this is for boy's only !!!!" and pretend as though they are the most hedonistic men ever without any care for the world. they do have some suspicion of it having to do with the occult but they basically get to roleplay pseduo-pagan spookiness. they're what is shown in the beginning of the film in those black and white images.
as for the cult, they worship a demon named abraxas! they're the ones that are confirmed to have done human sacrifices and where lilly came from. this is a "real" cult in the film. i tried to research a bit more on abraxas and i have seen some different things but i think carl jung describing abraxas as the "god of all gods" perfectly encapsulates what the cult is for. they are the ones that jack seemingly sacrificed minnie for as she was killed using their dagger.
i've got a few ideas of how jack stumbled upon the cult here and here ! however, i have no doubt in mind that there is an overlap between grove members and some of the cult ! they love powerful people and it seems as though they think being in the cult will lead them to said power. really, even the network in of itself is a cult of some sort that you have to sacrifice everything for and in front of the camera in order to show everyone just how bad you want something.
i think both were something jack ran to in desperation and he has been damned by both hence him seeing both of these at the end. he kneels before the owl (kneels before power!) and drinks what i assume is blood to demonstrate what he is willing to do for the cult - an initiation of some sort.
i hope this cleared some things up or made sense ! wrote this a bit rushed so my apologies !
#late night with the devil#lnwtd#jack delroy#cult of abraxas#the grove#bohemian grove#the cult of abraxas is so inclusive for including women we won !!!

do you think the gym leaders+steven all text norman to let him know how his kid is doing
because norman is the only one with a kid among the gym leaders. wattson's got a niece but she lives outside of hoenn and drake from the elite four has grandkids but like he's not a gym leader
and it's just a way to bond with norman since he clearly loves his family and the only time he gets soft is thinking of them
like roxanne gets beaten by a lvl15 mudkip and nothing else, and when she asks why, the kid is like, "actually, i want to be a water type only trainer so that i can also be a gym leader"
she lets wallace know in the group chat that he has competition
steven casually drops the fact that his kid beat up a few team magma grunts and his dad is apparently very fond of norman's kid now to one of the others and it spreads like wildfire
brawly says that his kid's been camping out for like the past three days, trying to fish for a tentacool, and then they show up to battle with like 20 potions and their tentacool as their ace
wallace pipes in briefly to tell norman that he and his wife should turn on a specific channel and watch it together.
afterwards, norman jokes that his kid really is gunning for wallace's spot and thanks him for letting him see their kid branching out. wallace starts commenting more on them because lisia tells him a lot and he's kind of happy his niece has a good friend she can hang out with
wattson happily tells him about he caught them giving pointers to wally and how they gave their marshtomp bulldoze specifically for this match and won by the skin of their teeth
and also how they nearly got into a fight with the guy who gives advice because he was like "you can't fight with water types in an electric gym!"
flannery is oddly quiet when they come to town and that is because they end up befriending each other because they WANT to be a gym leader but they know they have to live up to their dad while flannery's already trying to live up to the sort of reputation one should have
all she says is "it's a secret"
norman shares a picture of him, his wife, and their kid at a restaurant he found specifically because they like that sort of food. in it, tentacool has evolved and they now corphish and surskit and a togepi
the togepi belongs to his wife now but he mentions that it makes for a great excuse for his kid to come home more often
steven says something about how they're very passionate and when prompted to speak more about the topic, he says they nearly fought with kecleon because it was preventing them from going into the gym
winona is grateful that they asked the kecleon to go away. she's the one who has the least amount of conversation with them but she does note them trying to convince gyarados to fly, then begrudgingly resigning themselves to being a land and water dweller
(steven has to laugh at that when wallace tells him.
he never says why but when he comes back from his travels, he has a swanna for them)
the twins hear about the kid being in town but the first time they meet is at the department store while they're arguing with a kid about the last slakoth plush. they pull the "my dad is a gym leader" card and when that fails, they end up resorting to a pokemon battle
everyone floods the chat with questions after the team magma/team aqua incident. norman shuts down the gym for a bit to be there for his kid and also do gym leader stuff and the only time the kid shows up on tv is a few days later when they're trying to get to the gym and a reporter stops them
they very confidently say they can be champion, but only if they can make it past through the reporter because they need their eighth badge
norman is SO proud
for wallace, he mentions how the first thing they say after beating him is asking him where he got his milotic from. they're actually extremely mad that they couldn't find any feebas and they didn't actually want to battle him without one but they also just want to head onto victory road
this actually jogs a memory of norman's, where he remembers that he took the family to petalburg before he moved to show them littleroot and just spend time with them while they're still in johto
and on one of the screens is wallace and milotic, and after that, the three of them decide to take some time to watch one of his contests on tv, which spurs a family tradition and the declaration that they will also have a milotic
he promised to get a feebas for them, but they turned him down so he kinda regrets not pushing it a bit more
so he like talks to his kid and they basically confirm his suspicions
milotic = happy memories so my own milotic = more happy memories and since i want to be a gym leader like my old man = water types only
it's all very wholesome
norman can't stay away from petalburg much longer and his kid doesn't want him to watch the matches because they're afraid of an ungraceful showing, but they do promise to send a photo with steven after the match and verbal confirmation from the latter that they won
also norman's kid just looks up to their dad so much, like the coolest person ever, and once they become champion, they go to him for advice on pokemon—it's a running joke in the family that it should be the other way around since they're the youngest champion in hoenn
as for the feebas, someone from the weather institute finds out that they want one so they call norman to tell his kid this secret for a guaranteed feebas
the next beauty master rank has people making the spiderman meme because wallace also enters with a milotic. he wins the battle, but they win the day because their parents come to watch them and they spend the entire day together
#pokemon#pokemon oras#trainer may#trainer brendan#gym leader norman#gym leader wallace#hoenn gym leaders#champion steven#i just want good dad!norman stuff#like how pokemas or the anime portrays him#instead of like pokespe#i just want secretly doting dad norman who's so damn proud of his kid for becoming the champion#he'll never brag about it to anyone but his wife who is equal parts bemused and tired#but you can bet he has like newspaper clippings and photos of them in his office#he's usually good about not launching into technical discussions but sometimes he does#and since his kid is dating the professor's kid they can actually keep up with it

Danyla Lavellan - The Inquisitor necromancer
major choices bunch of facts & headcanons under the cut!
Early Life
The Lavellan clan in my canon has no interest in humans, and they are incredibly blood thirsty
They travel from forest to forest, staying in the deepest parts, far away from civilization
Being raised in this environment, Dany is not the easiest to get along with
Her magic manifested at age 10, when she tangled another in thorns because they were teasing animals
She is an only child, and was doted on by both of her parents
Almost to the point where she felt smothered
SO getting to study under the keeper was something she cherished and took very seriously
In fact, she takes most things seriously. If you can make her laugh, you deserve an award
In studying under the keeper, she obviously learned a lot about Dalish history, but she also became an expert in lost magic- specifically shapeshifting
She's used this ability to scout or to scare off anyone who comes too close to camp
Her relationship with her parents remains strained- they still try to treat her like a kid, and she resents them for it. She considers the keeper to be her parental figure
Shortly before the conclave explosion, a couple of Clan Lavellan's young mages had wandered out of the woods, curious about the outside world
A group of templars found them and...well, it didn't go well for the mages
The clan found the young mages, and, being the way they are...decided on revenge.
In Game
They find out a bunch of templars- and the templar leader!- will all be in one place. The conclave.
Dany volunteers for the trip. She's furious & wants to keep the clan protected at all costs
So of course things go badly because why wouldn't they
Dany denounces being the herald any chance she gets
She wants absolutely no part of any of this, and pushes back a LOT. She just wants to go home
In fact, if it weren't for Cass pushing and insisting on recruiting, the Inquisition would be empty and would probably fail lmao
Eventually, Dany realizes she has power. Lots of it.
And she kind of goes on a tyrannical warpath. If you're with her, great, if not...well, I'll pray for you
And everyone is kind of like "what tf did we just do"
Romance
Dany took a lot of comfort in the one other elven mage of the inquisition
She just...really loved being around Solas. She could listen to him talk for days
She just loves learning ok!!! She's super open minded to his theories and ideas, and is incredibly interested in the fade
The only thing she doesn't take kindly to...is the slave marking thing because she is really proud of her heritage. No way they're wrong.
She takes the breakup badly.
She actually becomes softer, she thinks maybe it was because she was too difficult to work with
Aaaand then he leaves for good and she gets worse than she was before she met him. She lost her anchor, lost the one person she trusted and cared about.
So she kinda doesn't care about going off the rails
Post Game
Dany stays with the Inquisition since her clan is gone, and turns it into a powerhouse. It's something people have grown to fear, which leads into "is the inquisition actually useful now?"
She also works closely with Briala to make Gaspard's life hell
And maybe there's a lil fling there but it's very brief and hush hush
(no, she never got over Solas thanks for asking)
After Trespasser she is completely mind fucked. She disbands the inquisition and becomes sort of a recluse in order to reflect on everything
I say sort of because she does try to find Solas. She will help him destroy the world if it will restore elven glory- even if it will cost her her own life
She keeps in contact with Briala (who has become a dear friend), and Leliana
There are very few sightings of Danyla post Trespasser. She uses shapeshifting most of the time to keep a low profile
#it's friday so have some dany lore!!#next friday i'll introduce rook 👀#oc: danyla lavellan#world state: the tower#da ramblings

Fandom mix up
Which avatars do you think the pjo characters would be? Which gods would the tma characters be the children/kin of?
JSHSHAJJANANAKAKAK HERE WE GO
Eye, web, lonely, dark, extinction, buried, slaughter, flesh, spiral, hunt, stranger, end, vast, corruption
Percy Jackson
His whole thing is excess loyalty right? And then you got dark Percy from house of Hades (hoh) and everything so we've definitely got a lot to go on
Hmm this one's a bit difficult cause he doesn't fit neatly into any of them I think
My first thought was the vast cause of the ocean and like by the end of hoo, he is so powerful that its almost unfathomable like the ocean and the vast, to the point where even he only just understands the extent of his power, like what happened in hoh
The excess loyalty could fit into that as well cause loyalty is something he hedges all his bets on, it's the one sort of indefinitely huge thing that rules his way of looking at things - like the ocean
But I'm not sure, if anyone has any better ideas please say so
Annabeth Chase
Girl's hubristic
I guess my first thought would be the web cause obviously she's strategic, she makes plans, she manipulates
But she is terrified of spiders so that wouldn't quite work
I'm not sure where hubris would fit in
I guess it could be the eye, cause with it you're desperate to gain all the knowledge, witness and understand EVERYTHING and therefore would be threatened if that ever failed - if you didnt know everything or if someone didn't believe in your all-knowingness
Which is also a huge part of her character - being underestimated because of the way she looks and speaks and how she both uses that to her advantage and hates the way it happens
I think that works quite well and I think unfortunately she'd be a fantastic Archivist
Grover
Is wonderful and I love him but I guess he'd be the extinction
Listen his whole thing about getting demigods safely to camp? How he's there when they think their world is about to end? When their world literally ends if he doesn't get them there safely? How he has to go through this over and over again, experiencing mini extinction level events every single year
And then you've got the whole pan thinks humans are destroying the world thing and how maybe he'd destroy humans to keep the world safe (I can't really remember that storyline and may have just imagined it so I'm not sure where it would fit exactly lol)
Jason
Jason's the stranger I think
He doesn't know who he is when he's first introduced, he has to spend a couple books remembering who he is and then he struggles with his identity as a son of Jupiter, praetor, leader etc
I think he's been forced to play a role that wasn't him and the essence of the stranger is just that - being forced to reckon with someone who you might've recognised once but certainly don't anymore
Piper
She is immediately web
Her whole thing is manipulation with her charmspeak, forcing people to do her bidding
A huge part of the web is loss of free will and that's exactly her thing - creating a situation in which a person has no choice but to act the way she wants them to
Nico
Boy oh boy
I want to say the end but now I think about it maybe the lonely
He had his sister ripped away from him, the only other person who's experienced the same insane things that he has, he's always seen himself as the lone wolf, different from the rest, the only gay one, the unrequited crush on Percy and how he admitted it to someone who didn't understand, the fact that he was trapped in the underworld alone for so long in that vase or whatever
I feel like at some point he accepted his life of solitude and the fact that no one would miss him or even try to understand or choose him first which definitely encapsulates the lonely
Reyna
The hunt I guess
She's constantly hunting for something more - like validation as the praetor, from Jason, revenge from her tragic backstory, she's constantly striving to be better and work harder
plus she actually joins the hunters of Artemis so that works itself out
Hazel
Im gonna say maybe the corruption
Cause her whole deal with hecate and her getting to grips with the daughter of death god is giving there is something deeply intrinsically wrong with me but I will embrace it and feed it and join the wondrous thrumming in my veins kinda vibes, like finding a family and comfort in the wrongness and both feeding it and feeding off of it
Frank
Gonna be honest with you, can't really remember his character
In my defence I read these books years ago
Oh wait he's the son of Ares who has the wood that he needs to keep safe cause if it burns down then he dies right
Ok well that's giving the end - once that flame touches the wood he's gone, he's living in fear of the one event that will end him, the end that could slowly creep up on him or be a sudden death

Hot stuff
Oh yeah this has got to be the desolation/extinction right
With his whole burning down his mum's factory and then going from orphanage to orphanage or something
Like I feel like he's constantly ending things just so he can be the one to leave first so he doesn't get abandoned, he's got his barrier up and he's never pulling it down
I'm not sure about this one actually maybe I just thought FIRE and therefore desolation
Anyway you guys can fight me in the tags or whatever I'm tired and want to sleep

It is absolutely fucking wild how little accountability church leaders need to have
A while back I was a girls camp
(Intermission for those of you who have never experienced a girl's camp)
Picture this, every young women between 12 - 17 is taken up into the mountains with nothing but clothes toiletries ✨️feminine products✨️ (side note why are we so afraid to call them fucking pads or tampons but whatever it doesn't matter rn) a journal pen and scriptures
Phones were not allowed and even if someone snuck one in most of the time we were out of cellphone range because it is time to 'disconnect with the world to connect with god' and at the end of the week everyone is peer pressured into telling about how they didn't want to go but thier mom made them and now that they went they are so happy and feel so close to God because spending a week doing nothing but team building activities all with metaphors about how it is our devine right to be a stay at home mom and we should be honored to submit to our husbands cause Jesus loves us and God knows what's best, while operating on 5 hours of sleep tops, is so eye opening and all that grand stuff
Sometimes there would be showers, sometimes there would be flushable toilets, sometimes some jackass would hide a life sized cardboard cut out of Justin Bieber inside of the Porta potties
Anyway now that we have established the vibes
I was at girls camp, around 14 or 15 years old, and we were going canoeing, because see girls camp is just like scout camp! They go white water rafting but we get to canoe in a reservoir
Now you could have 3 people in a canoe so me and 2 friends went off to go get sunburnt and paddle around for a bit before heading back into a cramped car to listen to the girls gossip about whoever the guy of the week was, because that's what we were expected to do
One crucial design flaw in said canoes is that they aren't actually buoyant enough to float if they get flipped upside-down, they just slowly sink as the air trapped underneath escapes when you attempt to flip them back over
I know that because we tried to take a sharp turn and capsized
Now after we figured out that not only had we flipped the canoe but now we were at a chance of being the only people to lose a whole fucking canoe to the bottom of the reservoir we begin to panic and tread water while holding onto the canoe and calling for help
Eventually some very nice young adults who were out paddle boarding took pity on us and offered to help flip the canoe so it wouldn't sink
Seeing as the canoe had already sunk enough that flipping it would just make it right side up while still underneath the water they had me sit on the back of their paddleboard and hold the canoe to tug it back to shore while my friends swam along side it to help keep it afloat
There are 3 important factors to this situation that are crucial to note
The first is that it is early spring in the mountains, the reservoir was filled with water from melted snow and some of it was still frozen over in shallower areas, on top of that ot was a chilly, and windy, day that felt decent when the sun was out but when you are in the cold water, it in fact did not feel decent
The second thing to note is that at the time I was incredibly short and built like a stick, not much muscle, not much body fat, just a small prepubecent teen (I know I was 14 or 15 however I was a 'late bloomer')
The third thing to note is that the kind paddle boarders who helped us were men in thier 20s or something, idk I wasn't really paying attention to how old they looked, but they were conventionally attractive
And so it was when we finally hauled the boat to shore and got it flipped right side up that we were told by our camp leader that we were not allowed to canoe back across the entire reservoir that we had paddled out to, but we were expected to swim back
To teach us a lesson about flipping a canoe to get the attention of the conventionally attractive young men
(It is worth noting that they were not even paddle boarding near where we accidentally took too sharp of a turn and we had been treading water and holding onto the boat for a good 8 or so minutes before they showed up)
But clearly we had done it all for the attention from boys because we were spending a week in the woods with no boys and so we flipped the boat for an excuse to talk to them
(Secondary note: I am very gay, I did not even understand what they were accusing us of until someone spelled it out for me because the possibility someone might flip a boat for a chance to talk to guys did not ever cross my mind)
And so it was that we went back into the water to swim the whole way back, now we were not just ignored, at one point some other girls took pity on us and told us we could hold onto thier boat as we swam to make it easier for us, and they were towing our boat (that we weren't allowed to paddle back ourselves) so they didn't mind a little extra weight of us holding on while we swam
We got to do that for all of 5 minutes before our leader yelled at them for showing us sympathy and told us that we needed to swim the whole way back on our own
Everyone had finished canoeing and was getting ready for the group picture by the time we got back, we had been swimming as fast as we could the whole time but we had to go back the entire distance that we had canoed out to
When the other girls helped me out of the water I looked like I was badly sunburnt because of how red I was, but it was just my whole body turning red from how cold the water was
I remember vividly that I was crying when the group photo was taken because my feet were burning with every step I took because they had been in the snow melt for so long that when I stepped onto the sand it felt like hot coals
(Yet another side note, having walked on hot coals bare foot before this was worse, the coals was over with fast and my nerves barely had time to react but with this I was so cold that I felt like going into the air I was burning except when the wind blew I was shivering so hard it felt like I was spasming)
We made it back to camp and shockingly none of us felt any better after changing into dry clothes, maybe being in cold water for 20 minutes isn't just something that goes away by getting out of the church approved swim suits
We were told by the church leader that we were allowed to take a shower to wash off the reservoir water and help us warm up, I had to turn the water to cold just to stop myself from feeling like I was being boiled alive
I got home and went straight to my mom to tell her of the injustice I faced, because whenever I told any other adults at camp they just laughed about how cute we must have thought the boys were
I finished telling her and her response was to tell me she already knew because the camp leader had texted her about it
However it was okay because she gave us her one shower she was allowed for the week (the campsite we were at was working on conserving water so the leaders were allowed one shower each and the girls were told they could just deal with not showering for five days) and that because the camp leader was really looking forward to her shower but she gave it up for us, it was all worked out in the long run and there was no fault or blame
I now have experienced things that hurt worse, but at that age the burning feeling around my entire feet as they sunk into the sand was one of the worst physical sensations I had ever felt I can still feel it if I think back because it was such a strong memory of the way my feet stung and my teeth shivered and I cried in front of all of my peers even as I tried my hardest to stop so that I didn't look like a cry baby infront of them
But she didn't get to have her shower
So it alllll evened out
Nobody remembers it besides me and my friends
I don't think we ever got an apology that wasn't followed by a 'but she was doing what she thought was best' or 'but she made it right by letting you have her one shower for the week'
Because it doesn't matter
Whatever the church leaders decide is right is what is right
It doesn't matter who gets hurt along the way
Let the lords will be done
And whoever speaks the will of God can't ever be wrong, and so any harm they do must be right
#exmo#long post#sorry this one is really fucking long#once i started writing it was cathartic to get it out without other ward member telling me to stop complaining#and that it was a long time ago and i shouldnt tarnish her reputation#every once in a while i remember this and go wait a minute that is pretty fucked up

One thing I always loved about taking things at face value instead of thinking of the more logical, meta reason why this is the case is that it leads to situations like this:
How do we get here?
The answer is art. Well, that, and trying to fit in multiple characters into a single frame coupled with Ranzal being too short to allow the rest of them normal-er heights.
It all starts at this early dragalia life comic, and this panel specifically:
So, apparently somebody (whether the artist actually asked anyone else or just winged it, I don't know!) decided Ranzal was 6'1. Fair, a pretty tall height for such a big dude, right? Well, it's not tall enough when we then put this in mind with pretty much every art with him in the picture and can't be explained by perspective (ie, everyone is likely on a relatively flat surface)
(Yes I know Euden's kneeling in that one but still, don't think standing is going to help him much in this case! He's still got more in common with Daikokuten the Mouse Dragon in that picture than any human or sylvan...)
And yes, these are some of the more egregious examples, but just the fact there's more than one makes this so funny trying to re-contextualize everyone else's height around Ranzal when we look at art like this. Because, as the very first image suggests, Euden is at best 5'1 in some of these arts if Ranzal is 6'1. And since Dragalia seemed to go with a vague 'comparison heights' to keep in line that Euden is taller than Zethia, but not Luca, etc, means quite a few people are absolutely tiny with the only fact that they're shorter than Euden as evidence needed.
Now, of course you can easily ruin this by logical, unfun recognition that Euden is also one of the most egregious size-shifters in Dragalia over the years (which by itself might make for some funny headcanons that he doesn't know/can't remember his own height and just guesstimates if there's some sort of conscious mental influence in trying to return to human form after shifting...Like if he's feeling on top the world, powerful when he's shifting back everyone is suddenly wondering why he looks so much taller, etc), as evidenced by even just these dragalia life panels:
(This would put him at about 5'9/152 cm)
...Whereas this likely only cracks 4' something or another. You get the picture: heights aren't exactly stable in comics or art. And I get it, it'd be a pain to try and keep everything consistent 24/7 over so many comics and artworks.
But oh, is it funny to imagine that everyone in Grastea is falling into one of two camps: huge-normal and very small. There is almost no in-between. You are either 6'+ or you are 4'8. Like...
A party approaches, two taller figures and three small ones. One of them looks like a the leader of this group, a bulky frame and commanding, harsh presence that signals not to play games with him. Surely that's the most dangerous member of the party, right? He looks like he eats whole horses for breakfast and it all turns straight into muscle.
...And then the one 5'1 kid randomly multiplies in size several times over and is now a huge freakin' dragon and setting you on fire/sending a tidal wave at you/kicking up a tornado/electrifying you/breathing poison/etc...
Appearances....can be deceiving?
So yeah, there we have the hilarious and unintentional effects by that one damning comic so long ago provides, if you so choose to take it at face value instead of introducing silly things like facts and logic and an understanding of the difficulties of being an artist!
Bonus round (ie, edit)
Also, judging by this exact one (1) piece of art, Emile very well is taller than Phares. Emile looks like he's hunching over somewhat and is still about even with Phares:
So yeah. Figured I should share that Emile might be way taller than I thought, at least.

I feel like there are two almost opposite takes on the sermon on the mount in Christian influenced progressive spaces: one in which it’s used as proof of the hypocrisy of their oppressors, and another where it’s used as a form of oppression to police thoughts and perpetrate a purity culture that leaves no aspect of your life alone.
and to that I have to say: if you’re using the sermon on the mount as anything but a ‘hey stop being so self righteous that you think you’re above other people morally and you get to judge them and base your social standing on it’ you’re being extremely unrealistic about the capability of any human to live a life of kindness and respect for others. if you had someone imply that following all the principles of the sermon on the mount is possible, achievable and something to aim for, I’m sorry. Do yourself a favour and don’t listen to anything that person says; in fact turn the sermon on the mount back on them to see their hypocrisy, and realise, none of this has any power over you.
the sermon on the mount was given early in the gospels before Jesus spends 10+ chapters telling the religious leaders of the time not to be so up themselves and think they’ve got it right and have the right to exclude others from a closeness to God because of it. and constantly showing them up by displaying the love people they thought of as sinners and outcasts could have for God. it was given to the Jews in AD 30, at which point if you were listening to it you were likely in one of two camps*: 1) someone who knew you’d fucked up and was constantly reminded of that in society and oh it was liberating to hear that you’re no worse than those people who think they’re better than everyone else or 2) someone who based their entire identity around Not Fucking Up and Being Godly and would probably built their rules around what is possible for me is good and I do random extreme things to please God like washing my hands 10000 times but I bend the rules about helping the poor to the bare minimum because I can’t deal with the idea that I might not be The Best and is in power so everyone else has to be judged against their rules—who Jesus is trying to be like ‘actually your rules are dumb look at all the stuff you missed, you don’t actually care about the heart of what pleasing God is about’
*there would be people there who felt shame for other things like being childless was a big one for women and unfortunately this is hard to neatly put in a category as this would be likely perceived as ‘I fucked up and God is punishing me’ but these people actually did nothing wrong explicitly and we really do need to talk about how the things we consider ‘sin’ don’t really apply to oppressed people groups at least not in the same way
and so if we take it into our lives today with any other message than ‘destigmatise sin and don’t ever expect yourself to do everything perfectly and so as a result you can be kind to someone you see sinning as you are to yourself’ (which when applied with the rest of the gospels is actually you don’t have to worry about fucking up and not being perfect Right Now or Ever because God knows how you work and Jesus took care of it in case you need any more proof he wants you to forgive yourself for whatever you feel ashamed for, instead focus on to the best of your ability showing this same attitude to the people around you especially if they don’t believe they’re worthy of that), if you do anything else with this passage than use it to call out those who think they are morally superior and comfort those who feel shamed and outcast, you are going to hurt people. It’s a powerful passage! And unfortunately it’s been used to isolate people with intrusive thoughts or anyone who gets horny or people with trauma backgrounds who can’t just ‘forgive’ and maybe don’t think they’ll be free while their abuser is alive. Unfortunately people it’s meant to call out have not been called out by it and people it’s meant to comfort have been called out instead.
and I know yeah, we all have our own takes on it. but I’m sorry, if you truly think it’s possible to follow all its rules to the EXTREME way it paints it you take it literally you are so naive and please go check your privilege and stfu. and idk how else there is to take it?? symbolically? even if you do that you know it’s calling out the oppressors right? because of their religious hypocrisy?? I hope that’s obvious because we have a lot of religious hypocrites going around trying to shame people for their intrusive thoughts and trauma and mental illnesses and sexuality while trying to pretend ??? they aren’t in the same boat I guess?? and there’s no sweeter and also often more effective thing to do sometimes than turn their own standards against them. you are allowed to do that if someone is hurting someone else btw!!! and if you don’t think people are getting hurt by it. also please check your privilege

What got me into witchcraft?
I usually respond to this question with a simple "I'm not sure" but right now, at 4am I suddenly remembered.
I got into witchcraft to survive.
When I turned 12 I had clinical depression. I'd always been sadder than most kids but it only became truly clinical at 12.
I don't remember much of those years. And memories suddenly appear as they do now. But either way.
I remember being so desperate to just have my mind be quiet. I was willing for anything. And that's when I randomly found those meditation YouTube videos. I had nothing to lose it was this or drastic measures. So I started trying it out. I'd sit and burn things (with fire safety in mind thankfully) as I focused on the video and blessedly I noticed that it actually helped. My brain for at least 20 minutes wasn't rotting away within my skull. It was quiet, still, I didn't feel like I was falling apart, I didn't feel rage practically boiling to the surface. I was completely calm.
So I kept doing it. On very bad days I wouldn't even bother. Just burning scrap after scrap and watching the smoke. I preferred burning incense along with any little bit of things. Seeing how quickly the fire developed items helped me in some way. Perhaps it was a physical representation of how my rage made me feel. Consuming all in its path. But all I knew was that it was a way to release my anger.
On better days, I'd light only a single stick of incense and play my videos listening to the stupid music and sometimes if listen to a few guided ones (I tend to avoid these now). I'd meditate each day after school. It was all I had that kept the dreams away. And slowly I began to feel more whole. By the time I got into high-school I was going better. I was still sad. I couldn't be bothered to out on clothes wearing pajamas and slippers to school. But I was going to school. I was having good days. And I had strength.
I used to go to these camps. Weird camp outs for the ladies of my church (I got my first girlfriend that way ha!).
While I was there one year one of the leaders in charge of a different group of women, asked to hug me saying "I sense you have many angels with you."
This was nuts. Angels was nonsensical and I didn't do physical touch. I politely declined and tried to move on.
But I couldn't. Because it kept happening. People kept claiming I had strong protective entities and others just wanted to be near me for a bit.
When I spoke to my father about it, he told me he always had that happening, and it was a normal experience.
But nobody else had this. Just me and my father.
So I started doing research. I wanted to know why people kept claiming I had angels especially with the fact that I wasn't sure I believed in angels (still don't. At least not like Angels Angels)
I'm not certain how I figured it out. That part is still lost in the static of my memories. But I do know exactly who is with me.
My ancestors.
My strongest being my grandfather.
I have no doubt it's him. I've been able to send him to protect others, and his love is such a strong feeling.
The others I'm unsure of the specifics.
But after I learned of my ancestors fully, I wanted to learn of to communicate. How to show my appreciation. And I found Tarot first and witchcraft in general second.
Though I had been studying witchcraft long before I just never realized that's what it was exactly and I didn't want to call myself a witch being a man and all.
It took a bit before I took on the title. But without it I surely wouldn't be here now.
