Fists raised, swords ready, it's time to fight-
Oh hold on. What's that delicious smell?
Can we call a meal break?
The contestants of this poll could probably open a restaurant. A couple of them have, before the plot dragged them back in. All I know is that watching them cook make me very hungry.
*a web novel with an English translation here. I recommend it wholeheartedly especially if you enjoy Guardian. (Modern with superpowers, danmei)
**the web novel that took over my life for the past few weeks. An English translation can be found here. I also recommend it wholeheartedly, excellent worldbuilding, plotting, and characters. (Xianxia, danmei)
Propaganda, examples, and write-ins absolutely welcome!

Some questions answered during Li Le's weibo live stream (not all questions are included, some long answers are summarized):
note: "Wang laoshi" is an affectionate nickname for Wang Yunkai
1. How do you feel during your first livestream?
Lele: A bit nervous but also a little excited.
2. How tall are you?
Lele: I'm 185 cm.
3. What was your first impression of Kaikai?
Lele: I saw Wang laoshi's description. My first reaction was that he described me as if I took the lead female role in a drama, with the way he described my face and me dragging two large suitcases upstairs, almost unable to move. Later, I thought it was indeed like that. He seemed like a very, very warm person.
4. What is your MBTI?
Lele: I am an introvert, an ISFJ, a little nurse. Wang laoshi is a protagonist (ENFJ).
5. Will there be autographed photos?
Lele: There will be opportunities for autographed photos in the future.
6. Can you speak Russian/Thai?
Lele: I can't speak Russian or Thai.
7. Have you read the original work?
Lele: I have read the original work. After reading it, I was somewhat hesitant to take on the role. However, after playing Huaien, I learned a lot from him.
8. Do you eat snail noodles?
Lele: I love eating snail noodles; I'm a big foodie.
9. How has your mindset changed before and after filming?
Lele: I used to be quite indifferent about relationships, believing that being together or not is a matter of fate. However, after playing Huaien, I realized a valuable trait in him—his view of love is very pure and he believes that if you like someone, you should give your all to pursue and fight for it. This moved me deeply.
10. What type of role would you like to experience next?
Lele: I used to want to play roles that are similar to my own personality, more lively characters. After playing Huaien, I now want to try roles that are quite different from myself so that I can learn new things.
11. What do you like to eat?
Lele: I love many foods, whether they're from Wuhan, Xi'an, as long as it's delicious.
12. Are there any kissing scenes in the drama?
Lele: I can't spoil it, but everyone can look forward to it.
13. Where do you most recommend traveling to?
Lele: Every place is different, whether domestic or overseas. Cities in China like Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, and Chongqing each have their unique charm.
14. How does it feel to shoot a kissing scene?
Lele: It feels just like how it would feel when you kiss someone.
15. What food do you recommend in Shanghai?
Lele: Shanghai's pan-fried buns are delicious.
16. Will you collaborate with Kaikai again?
Lele: I certainly hope so, if there's an opportunity.
17. What is your zodiac sign?
Lele: I am a Scorpio.
18. Can you recommend a song?
Lele: Of course, "A Passionate Dream" sung by Wang laoshi and me. Besides that, have you heard of the song "Young And Beautiful"? I really like that one.
19. Do you have any interesting experiences from filming "Blossom"?
Lele: There are quite a few memorable scenes. The most unforgettable for me is the one by the river because it was very special.
20. What did you think of your voice actor?
Lele: I think the voice actor added a lot of value to my performance.
21. Will there be offline events?
Lele: Offline meetings and concerts will depend on future arrangements.
22. Will you change your hair color?
Lele: I want to be a bit spontaneous and dye my hair blonde.
23. Do you usually work out?
Lele: I do work out, but I can be a bit lazy and need someone to keep an eye on me.
24. What type of music do you like?
Lele: Recently, I've been listening a lot to "A Passionate Dream" and "Under the Moonlight," our theme song and ending song sung by Wang laoshi and I, as well as "Endless Calamity" by Li Junliang laoshi. In general, I enjoy listening to songs by Zhou Shen and Faye Wong.
25. Will there be a duo livestream?
Lele: A duo live stream depends on future arrangements. It should happen; I'll consult with our boss.
26. Are you of mixed heritage?
Lele: Yes, I am of mixed heritage, though it's quite distant. My grandfather's previous generation was Russian.
27. Why do you eat a lot but not gain weight?
Lele: Actually, I gain weight easily, and I love eating. I used to be very overweight, weighing up to 110kg in middle school. I later lost weight, going down to around 75kg. My slimmest was during the filming of "Blossom."
28. Can you post a nine-pic grid?
Lele: Sure, I can post a nine-pic grid. I'll leave that to my publicity team.
29. Have you seen the complete version of the drama?
Lele: Yes, I've seen the complete version. It was very embarrassing, especially the first two episodes where I had to dress as a woman for the first time.
30. What hobbies do you have?
Lele: Traveling. Previously, Wang laoshi and I planned trips to Chengdu and Yanji. In Shanghai, I might play tennis, go shopping, or watch good movies.
31. What is your contact name for Wang laoshi?
Lele: His contact name is Kaikai.
32. Which outfit in the drama is your favorite?
Lele: Because most of my outfits are white, my favorite is actually the black one. It appears rarely, but I saw it in the trailer and really liked it.
33. Do you call each other by name in private?
Lele: In private, I just call him Kaikai.
34. What do you recommend playing at Disneyland?
Lele: I highly recommend "Soaring Over the Horizon". It's very fun.
35. Can you swim?
Lele: Yes, I can swim.
36. Do you have any vlogs?
Lele: Vlogs are being arranged and currently being filmed. They include work and daily life ones, and there are also vlogs from shooting before.
37. Where will your next trip be?
Lele: If there's time, Wang laoshi and I might go to Chengdu or Yanji. I also really want to visit Xinjiang or Changsha, Shandong is an option too, as it has great food.
38. What kind of milk tea do you like?
Lele: My top favorite is Cha Yan Yue Se. Second, I think Heytea is quite good. Third, I like Thai milk tea. I also love drinking from Mixue.
39. Did you take anything from the drama as a keepsake?
Lele: Yes, I took Huaien's hairband, but I didn't bring it out; it's at home.
40. Can you drink douzhi (fermented mung bean milk/soup)?
Lele: I don't like it.
41. Do you have any pets?
Lele: Yes, I have a dog, a small poodle. It's a kind fleece poodle, not a wicked one.
42. What's your dog's name?
Lele: My kind fleece poodle is named Xiao Yueyue (the fleece part is hard to translate but it's funny because by "fleece" he's referring to the poodle's fur, so he's speaking of him as a piece of fabric basically)

Melody Journey (Music TV Show, 2024)
Zhou Shen, Xue Zhiqian, Ayunga, Liu Yuning, Liu DuanDuan, and more
I blame Liu Yuning for my falling into the c-pop wormhole, which led to a whole new world filled with cheesy ballads, romantic love songs, old-school rock hits, and cdrama OSTs. Chinese music industry really knows how to celebrate its talents—and have fun while it's at it!
Melody Journey has a fairly original concept. They invited a bunch of upcoming and established composers to present their new (!) songs to equally established and upcoming singers. That creates a very powerful mix - the singers get exposure and can sing some pretty amazing new hits (or less amazing, but it's still all in good fun), and the composers get their songs being broadcasted nationwide for the first time.
The modern stage is visually striking, the filming of the whole show is top-notch high-quality, but what makes it so damn good and delicious on all levels is the cast. The show features a lot of familiar faces from Singing with Legends season 3, which was pure awesomeness (if you haven't watched it - just go and do it now, you'll fall in love with all the singers and probably the Chinese music industry as well).
This means we get to enjoy the frantic humor of Xue Zhiqian, as well as his passionate performances. Next, there's Zhou Shen with his incredibly high, androgynous voice and a diva-like presence on stage (that, and his humor barely passing the show's censorship XD). There's also the incredibly lovely Shan Yichun and some cool guests appearing all the time, so the cast is pretty fluid.
At some point, Ayunga joins the stage - and if you know him, you know that this Mongolian musical singer is a real gem both in terms of looks and his gorgeous voice. Then Liu Yuning joins the show, bringing his magical voice and powerful performances, which can't really be compared to anyone else. That, and his personality also shines bright.
I was also very surprised to find Liu DuanDuan (2nd Prince from Joy of Life) to be a pretty good singer. Like really good! I didn't connect to him much at first, but he has a quirky sense of humor and a very hard-working personality. He's very passionate about singing, and it shows!
The show is hilarious right from the first episodes, there's so much humor, you can watch it just for that alone. Xue Zhiqian is a walking stand-up comedian, but he treats music very seriously. He also shifts between the roles of a singer and composer, giving some of his songs to the performers.
Because all the songs are new, it's very exciting to see the whole process of reacting/choosing what to sing. Everyone has their own personalities and preferences, which makes for a very entertaining process. I haven't laughed so much in a long while. All the guys and girls know each other, so it's not really a competition, but rather a fun music camp they do altogether.
At the end of each episdoe, some cutting-edge AI decides what song has the best chance of becoming a hit. That's pretty much it! No rewards or fancy titles. The show itself with new music and interesting performances is the reward, so they're doing it just for the fun of it.
I enjoyed the concept just as much as I enjoyed everyone's performances - there were lots of really cool new songs! So I recommend watching it fully, but if you're interested in our boy Liu Yuning, he appears in episode 7.
I've watched 9 episodes out of 11, and it's been nothing but fun paired with excitement :3 The humor is literally never-ending. No one is safe from friendly pranks.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can't have Liu Yuning on the show without some height jokes, okay? They're obligatory)))
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
All the boys are incredibly touchy-feely and they hug a lot, which made my heart all warm and fuzzy. They're so cute. Also, the support seniors have to younger stars is very heart-warming.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Apart from all the fun, the show is just very pleasing to the eye. The stages have cool visual effects and some performances are very artsy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The beginning of the show is already striking and you know it's going to be pretty!

Love me, love my voice - a Cdrama where good things happen to good people
Fair warning - it's the fluffiest fluff that ever fluffed the Earth, so if you crave some drama and violence at the moment, then maybe save this one for later.
Tumblr media
The plot of this drama is extremely simple. A university student, going by her second identity online as Sheng Sheng Man, produces/sings traditional style music. Due to a coincidence she gets acquainted with Qiang Qing Ci - a very famous but mysterious voice actor who never shows his face in public, with whom she bonds over a shared passion for good food. And a slow, gentle love story starts from here.
If you are tired of misunderstandings, love triangles, stupid decisions and unnecessary conflicts between your romantic leads; if you want to witness healthy relationships, tight friendships and just an ungodly amount of cuteness - then you came to the right place.
Tumblr media
(Also there's a lot of cooking and/or eating delicious food. In every episode. Really, don't watch it when you're hungry, you'll die)
Now, I don't usually read or watch something that has romance at its front and center (though there are always exceptions, albeit rare). But I'm obsessed with Under the Skin, and I loved Word of Honor, so I decided to give Tan Jianci and Zhou Ye a chance for at least one episode, and well - here I am, writing this whole thing after watching the show and then even reading the original novel.
Qiang Qing Ci (or Mo Qing Cheng irl) is a smart and kind man, a doctor, who can cook and has an absolutely gorgeous voice that he uses for good but could use for evil (Tan Jianci could hypnotize people and I wouldn't even mind tbh). How can he work as a doctor and actor simultaneously, you might ask? That's Cdramaland for you, baby! His outer softness doesn't mean that he is completely harmless however. For all of you little freaks out here (myself included), there are some *ahoy!* moments too
Sheng Sheng Man (or Gu Sheng irl) is a girl surrounded by the love of her parents, five slightly overprotective cousins and her friends. She's shy and a bit sheltered, but not stupid, and Zhou Ye's acting makes her character very charming instead of the cringe that is usually associated with this kind of type of girl on screen.
Almost every character there is a good person, and you know, sometimes you just want to see those kinds of people have a great time. They do what they like for a job, fall in love, go on holidays, have friends that are ride or die for them and vice versa. There's no jealousy and backstabbing, all problems are resolved quickly, and everybody can actually COMMUNICATE.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One thing that I'd noticed while watching that surprised me a lot - is how everybody's acting is so relaxed and natural. When they're in a group together, you genuinely believe that all of them are good friends with each other in real life too. The light teasing, interrupting one another while talking, their mutual support and closeness. The actors probably had a lot of fun while filming. And goddamn, it's so good to see it! I'm also insanely jealous.
Music
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Traditional music and the profession of voice acting are as much of main characters as our romantic leads are. The way that it was shown was so full of love and respect for the craft and people involved in it, it's amazing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite the simplicity of the plot, there are still moments of heightened emotions, and people there deliver! Their acting shines through especially during the on-stage performances.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That "Swan Song" broke me. I swear, during this whole performance I was bawling my eyes out.
(also insert here a joke about Shen Yi probably being able to recreate Qiang Qing Ci's face based on just his silhouette).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(This is a Night Show in Yangshuo that the characters attend at some point, "Impression Liu Sanjie", an absolutely incredible performance, and I'd pay all the money I don't have to go see it personally)
Side characters (a completely self-indulgent section):
This is a rare Cdrama where there are no annoying side characters. I love them all and would kill anyone who'd think of bothering them even slightly.
Tumblr media
These are MuMu (outwardly cold but actually very kind and empathetic) and MoBai (a lovable dumbass), a couple of cosplayers that pop up here and there, and nothing that you say will convince me that they're not together.
(And sure, you can read it as purely platonic friendship between bros, but honestly why would you. Also, I think the creators made a perfect recipe to avoid the wrath of censorship - just get two guys, occasionally make them say that they're single and looking for girls, but then show them always together, and just don't explain anything.) (Watch me finding a subtext even in the straightest show I've watched in years.)
Tumblr media
The same goes for singers Fei Shao and Wang Ke, except for they're both bumbasses, and I love them dearly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dou Dou Dou Bing, a manager of their recording studio as well as the voice actress, and she's awesome.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jue Mei Sha Yi, a voice actor, a CEO of his own company and the one that the Viki's live comment section thirsts for A LOT.
Tumblr media
Feng Ya Song, a voice actor and a pediatrician as a side gig, and he's cute.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Geng Xiao Xing, a friend of Gu Sheng, works for some app (?) that collaborates with the voice studio. She's also cute and I like her hairstyle.
... And some others.
***************************************************************
If what I've described here interests you at all, then feel free to check it out. I think this is a good show to watch right now, as we all collectively try to crawl out of the winter depression.
This has been your friendly ghost from Abyss, with some recommendations on how to distract yourself from the horrors of existing(*^-^*)

SUPER VOCAL
The best singing competition show. Ever.
I am impressed at the amount of talent in this show. 36 participants and all of them talented as hell. The only reason not everyone is a Principal at the end is merely because of confidence at the time of performing. Which is the only reason Zhou Shen, who has the voice of an angel, was a bit lackluster (it must have been the beginning of his career.. he was nervous most of the times, thank God for sweet Wang Xi who was always rooting for him 🥰).
The lead "actor" of this show is, no doubt, Ayunga. He performed flawlessly every song. The judges and the rest of the boys loved and admired him. Didn't matter if his French wasn't good, his harmonization compensated everything. The 2nd lead, but more or less in the 2nd half, was Zhen Yunglong. I love to see them interacting, the chemistry! And when they formed their group... ahhh, the mentors and their students 🥰 Both of them with the experience and confidence, guiding the youngsters, the "1975" team 🥰
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And both enjoy performing so much! It is so much fun to see the singing together. And while not singing, they both enjoy watching the others, and how cute was them worrying for their children? (They deserved to win, tbh, but still, I loved that the professor invited the children to perform with him in his concert... isn't that the best??)
Tumblr media
So yes, it is a joy to see the charm of YunCiFang 🥰
There is also a bit of a fight over Zhou Shen... Yuncifang wanted him but Wang Xi was adamant to have him 🤣 so it provided some fun moments:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Besides them, I became a huge fan of Wang Xi (that silky voice 🤤), Yu Di (always consistent in his performances... I love that he got a couple of jobs while the judges were scoring him 😄), Liao Jialin (I prefer his countertenor over Gao Tianhe), Wang Kai (a pro... he was just too competitive 😅), Li Qi, Cai Cai, Hong Zhiguang and Ma Jia and well, all of them actually. All of them very sweet, sensitive boys. The only one I didn't care, in spite of his huge talent, was Gao Tianhe 😅 such a diva.
My favorite performances:
- Bella Ciao
- L'amore si muove
- Les Rois du Monde
- The Sound of Silence
- Nei Blu, Dipinto Di Blu
- La Paloma
- I'll cover you (+ all the other duets btw Ayunga & ZYL. They improved so much since that infamous performance from their college days)
Now I am in the rabbit hole that is Super Vocal 🥲 I am happy this show open doors for them, and that musicals and opera are more popular now in China. These guys deserve every ovation they are surely getting today. I wish I could know more about their current professional lives and how did their tour went after the final. The ending had many tears, including from Yuncifang, and I admit I also shed some tears 🥺

period on its way so i need to be bitchy rn or i'll die. so as to not end up getting upset At anyone here's what i think about the army costuming in episodes 26-28 of (sadly short 40 episode long) cdrama chang feng du also known as destined.
this will make sense if you havent seen it but there are spoilers. and also it's bitchy commentary. read if you want this is for me tho
the costumes themselves are of course very well-made. the armies are nice and easy to distinguish from one another. there's four of them!
is our protagonists' army of a rapidly-diminishing 10,000, already guarding wangdu. the commanders of this one are our boy gu jiusi, and also ye shi'an and shen ming. shen ming is the only one of these three who is wearing the armour of wangdu, actually - the other two are dressed... differently. shen ming and the rest of the army are in a nice and cool black metal on black cloth combo - i always love when the heroes are in all black, it makes me happy!
is the defenders of wangdu, the 20,000 troops in zhou ye's hands. they were taken away from the coming battle to join the main forces of the youzhou army attempting to [sighs at plot changes due to censorship] Save The Emperor. anyway. these are one set of reinforcements and they are nice and cool in silver metal on dark blue cloth. so far so good - nice and easy to tell apart the two armies, what could be the problem? oh it's not with these guys, actually zhou ye has never done anything wrong in his life.
is the unexpected army of bingzhou, led by qin wanzhi who is the best. she's so cool. while the guys are busy having a solemn and history-laden reunion she's busy getting to the gates of the city and killing every guy currently breaking through them. i love her. but anyway their army is in silver metal over cloth of a nice deep red, making them the next-coolest after wangdu's black on black.
enemy time! the rebel prince, king liang is in charge of a cool 100,000 and they are all kitted up. these guys are very striking when theyre arrayed against a tiny hopeless city and they are wearing gold metal armour over bright red cloth. ah, you think you see the problem, right - two armies in red! nah that shit's fine, the metal provides the contrast, the two reds aren't super similar, and bingzhou normally act as a smaller force doing specific, clearly identifiable actions, such as the gate thing. nah, similarity between armies isn't the problem, what is?
the fucking commanders of wangdu.
SO. big battlefield shots are fun, but they make it hard to figure out where our special little characters are. are they in the part that just exploded, or are they fine? enquiring minds etc.
costumers solution: give those bitches different armour.
this is normal, this is fine, this has some historical basis - the guys on the field need to know where their commanders are. now, most of our commanders are wearing the same colours as their soldiers and are visibly distinguished in different ways. shen ming has different weapons, zhou ye has slightly different metalwork (and also is always in focus or on a horse) and qin wanzhi is both helmetless and often-shouting, with an easily distinguished voice.
gu jiusi and ye shi'an, however...
well. well.
(firstly, context - ye shi'an is the pure scholarly type who our leading lady, liu yuru, grew up wanting to marry. then he went through trauma and now he's a pure scholarly type with a gun bow and arrow. gu jiusi is our leading man and the one yuru actually married. arguably twice.)
ye shi'an, being a pure scholarly type, is naturally in armour of Pure White. white metal white cloth and white bow and arrow. whatever, baby, you can wear what you like. not sure where he got it, but good for him. he can be mistaken for absolutely nobody else. he can also be targeted so so easily, but. that's allowed. if he wants to do that he can.
gu jiusi, though.
hey, man, what the fuck are you wearing, bro.
oh, gold armour on red cloth? bright red cloth? the same shade as the rebel army's red fucking cloth?
WHY.
WHY BRO.
he is so hard to tell apart from them in big battlefield scenes!! most of episode twenty seven is big battlefield scenes. AT LEAST CHANGE TO THE FUCKING BLACK CLOTH DUMBASS.
...
....
........
phew.
okay to be clear i know why - one of the other fights is nighttime storming of the walls - he and ye shi'an are the only guys in bright colours on the walls for most of that, it's very striking, and even when the enemy soldiers do get up there the camera focus is close enough to the action that there's no confusion. it makes sense for him to be in exclusive bright colours.
also he and his wife do a romantic little vow renewal right before the main action (it's romantic bc theyre talking about how doomed-to-death they are) and she's in a red not-technically-a-wedding-dress-bc-this-is-the-not!song-dynasty dress and gold jewellery. they have to match.
so my real question is why is the rebel army in those colours. who decided this.

10 songs on your playlist right now
Rules: you can usually tell a lot about a person by the type of music they listen to. put your playlist on shuffle and list the first ten songs, and then tag ten people. no skipping!
Tagged by @wanderlust-in-my-soul ages ago, but I was too distracted busy to finish this until now. 👀😅
I'll be honest, I am a boring old person and mostly listen to podcasts these days so I'm not really up to date with what's hot in music now. I do watch a lot of dramas and variety shows though so that's where most of my music comes from.
Monsters - Zhou Shen
I like his cover more than the original tbh. I'm always amazed with shenshen's vocals. A good song to listen to when I need some encouragement.
How Could I Leave You Behind - 黃奕儒 Ezu
Ahh History 3 Trapped by beloved. It's one of the early bls that I watched thinking the premise for both couples was completely ridiculous and unrealistic, but I loved it anyway.
Dancing With the Devil - Isbanky
Say what you want about Big Dragon (personally I loved it), but the theme song is good. This song just reminds me of the push and pull that made Mangkorn and Yai so good together.
Under Mt Fuji - Hacken Lee & Zhou Shen
My favorite Qin Shen Shen duet. I've listened to this song countless times, it's even my ringtone, despite the fact that it's a bit of a bummer song since it's about a breakup. 😅 The vocals are so good though! Hacken is the harmonization king for a reason.
Traffic Light - Hacken Lee & Bibi Zhou
"The light was clearly green, turned red with a blink of an eye. Even if we decide to be brave, can we save ourselves?" I sang this song at KTV so many times back in the day. I love this cover as duet with Hacken killing it with the harmonization again.
Traffic Accident - Dann & Mujin
I'm surprised this was the only song that came up from the Unintentional Love Story OST. 😅 I love this song because it's catchy and it reminds me of different scenes from the series, with my favorite being the scene where Taejoon and Wonyoung spray each other with water while washing the car.
Into1 - Into1
What can I say? I still like teenybopper bops and Into1's debut song is the epitome of that. I never grew out of it, sorry not sorry.
Bicycle (remix empty chair) - George Lam & Mike Tsang
This cover and remix is so good! George's voice is so distinctive. This song is about a person looking back at their relationship with their father and my inner self tears up every time I hear it.
Inflation - Earnest Jackson
"Inflation is in the nation." Of course I would vibe with a song that complains about inflation. I just couldn't believe there was one.
Moment - Jeff Satur
I miss JeffGame so much. I loved Ingredients for the softness and domesticity and this song captures that feeling perfectly.
I never who to tag for these things, as I don't want to annoy or pressure anyone. I'll tag @bluespring864, @kingfisherprince, @vickyawesome99, @victooooorious, @lfcwifenspice, @alphapackfeels, @benkaaoi, @mybabybright, and anyone else that wants to do this. Feel free to ignore me.

Some moments I enjoyed from rewatching eps 1 and 2 of the first season of 声入人心:
Ayanga going "It's my classmate :D" when Zheng Yunlong shows up
"I thought it was Wang Kai from Nirvana In Fire..." RIP operatic tenor Wang Kai (the joke is they’re both 王凯)
The :O expressions when Zhou Shen turned up!
Gao Tianhe's claws coming out early!! He's an arrogant little bitch but I find him so entertaining, which is a good thing for someone who comes in with such I'm The Main Character Of This Variety Show energy, really, otherwise I wouldn’t like him at all xD
Shang Wenjie comparing Zheng Yunlong to Takeshi Kaneshiro (having now watched some stuff with him in it, this is hysterical to me)
Liao Jialin going straight for the boss move of a vocaloid cover with a segue into operatic Europop. IN WHAT OTHER SHOW WOULD YOU SEE THIS
Cai Chengyu and all his high Cs *chef's kiss* (Shi Kai: take good care of my seat! *lingering hand-holding*)
Knowing much more about the performers and their relationship now than when I first watched it made Zheng Yunlong and Ayanga competing in the Principal Reassessment so much more intense and exciting, my god
Then followed right after by Zhou Shen, so clear and gorgeous UGH how is his voice so good
Gao Tianhe absolutely being the Main Character of the duet selections at the end, this boy is just so highly strung
Gosh I love countertenors so much, I feel like this is the only thing I've ever seen that really appreciates them.
I don't know if there have been any other meisheng-themed variety shows since? Tangentially, I was super excited about City of Musicals, but we only got a few episodes of that - does anyone know what happened to it?

Xiao Zhan aka "Wide-Eyed, Illegally Cute"
(Chinese Idol Our Song, 2019)
I came for Xiao Zhan and stayed for Ayunga (turned out Liu Yuning was also in the package!)
YouTube brought me the 1st season of Our Song and it's been such a wild ride! First of all, Xiao Zhan is such a KITTEN *heart eyes* I still haven't watched the Untamed (don't throw anything at me please, ahah) because I'm relatively new to cdrama and I'm exploring some other rabbit holes for now, but I can say that his personality is golden. He's such a cutie pie! With a very lovely, beautiful, and straightforward voice. He paired up with a very cool and funny lady that's like his older sister and they had some outstanding performances together. BUT!
There is also this extremely handsome former ballet dancer/present musical singer Ayunga (he's from Inner Mongolia) who looks like an actor celebrity with an absolutely amazing opera-esque voice. The character is also there! The show is very humorous and lively, and the way everyone jokes around is absolutely precious (thanks for the eng subs to whoever translated it). Seriously, I would've watched it for all the cute bickering only, but the music was also there XD. Because of Ayunga's background, you will hear some musicals and some English songs as well (the 80s' hits medley was so much fun!).
Unsurprisingly, both young Chinese idols and established senior singers have amazing voices, so listening to the songs is pure delight, just melodically and musically, it's perfection even if you don't know the language. And all the bickering that's happening between the contestants is just too hilarious. Then there are other teams where you will find Liu Yuning and Zhou Shen, a guy with a very high soprano voice, so there's a lot of versatility. And everyone's personalities are very vibrant.
But I loved when Ayunga's group A competed with the group B whose leader was super short (and Ayunga is super tall) they had these cute and funny moments together (their hug was something straight out of a cdrama, with the hilarious height difference XD). When you become invested in the singers' personalities - it's such a joy to watch this show.
And not Liu Yuning asking "Xiao Zhan Lao Shi" what he has to say about his performance because "everyone wants to hear that" ahah XD The man is the king of fan service, for real))) Liu Yuning is amazing in this show as well, but it's from 2019 and it's good to see that he's come a long way, getting more acknowledged for his talents. He's beyond humble.
Anyway, here's a playlist of the show on YouTube, it has 8 out of 14 eps, mostly subbed, the rest needs to be fished out on Dailymotion. But it's worth it! You will laugh a lot and the music is beautiful, too.
