before you met him, you didnât think about the color green too often. it was one of those colors you didnât necessarily love or hate, it was just kind of⌠there.
to you, it was just one of those colors where shades of it were prettier than the actual color itself. or a color you only really liked during the fall. like how, typically, people only liked the color blue during the summer.
that was until you met him.
the boy with those big, beautiful, slightly blue but slightly green, water-colored eyes. now you love the color green. obsessed over it. thought about it every second of every day. it was crazy how a simple opinion could change in a matter of seconds, all because of those stupidly pretty eyes.
You lie awake on your back, staring at the ceiling. surely it wasnât normal to obsess over someone this much, right? especially over someone you werenât even sure would ever feel the same.
sure, you had crushes before, and had your fair share of falling quickly and all at once. it wasnât an unusual feeling to you, no stranger to catching feelings rather quickly.
but this time around, everything was different. everything felt more intense, more mind-boggling and confusing and pulse rising. the feeling so foreign that sometimes you wish you had never met him so you wouldnât have fallen so hard so sudden, but deep down you were so glad that you had.
it was the little things that made you wonder what it was like to be loved by him. the subtle glances in your direction, the gentle but lingering touches. you had thought you were going crazy, reading too much into things in the beginning. over-analyzing every little thing that made your body light up with excitement.
until pietra confirmed your suspicions.
âheâs totally into you,â she said, leaning closer to your ear as you watched him from across the room, his head tilted back, nose scrunched and eyes half shut as he laughed about something max had said, which was likely something stupid, âlike, one hundred percent, down bad, into you.â
you tilted your head at the blonde, âyou think so?â
she scoffed, âmore like know so,â
âwho told you?â
âno one has to tell me anything,â she said, âi can just tell.â
you rolled your eyes at her, âp, iâve told you a million times, heâs not into me.â
but she was right. he was one hundred percent, undoubtedly, down. fucking. bad.
ever since the moment he met you at that stupid pub with max and his group of friends, all he wanted to do was get to know you. he didnât want it to seem obvious when he asked max about you, but he knew no matter what he did it was going to seem obvious. just from the way he looked at you like you hung the stars in the night sky, he was no where near subtle.
he hated to admit it, but he had even done some lowkey instagram stalking through one of his private accounts. he had seen all the pictures of you and pietra, a life long friendship explained to him in front of his own eyes.
and every time his fingers would swipe through your account, all he could think about was how beautiful you were. how your eyes sparkled every time you smiled for the camera, how happy you looked when you genuinely laughed, and how he wished to be the reason behind the gorgeous sound forever.
he wasnât trying to make it obvious tonight, not wanting to make it well known that he had his eyes on you for a while. but he had lost track at the amount of times you had caught him looking at you, and he swore he had even caught you looking at him first a handful of times.
so when everyone in the house decided that it was the end of the night and started filing through the door, he took it upon himself to make his way over to you. you were talking with pietra, a smile on your face as you giggled about something she had said. the brazilian womanâs eyes landed on him, to which she looked back at you and said something before you turned to look in his direction.
he smiled when your eyes met his, âhey, did you need a ride home?â
your heart threatened to leap out of your chest, âuhm, i was just gonna call an uber, you donât have to-â
âno, no,â he said, shaking his head, âi insist, really. itâs not a big deal.â
how could you argue with him? those pretty green eyes, that smile, the face. you simply couldnât. it was impossible. you couldnât see the look pietra was giving you, but knowing her, you knew it was a look that said âgo with himâ.
and do you did, the cool, crisp autumn air in london suddenly making you wish you had brought a jacket. you had wished you planned for the nightly breeze, wishing you had opted for a long-sleeved shirt for the night instead of the spaghetti strap tank top you had chosen.
as you walked to the car that was parked down the street, he noticed you shivering. he saw the way you hugged yourself, your hair moving with the breeze. his curls danced in the wind and he knew if he was slightly cold, you were definitely freezing.
he tugged off the hoodie before passing it to you, the sound of the doors to the mclaren echoing before he turned to you.
âhere,â he said, âitâs a little windy out, i know youâre probably freezing.â
your stomach did backflips as you took the soft black material from his hands, âoh, are you sure? arenât you cold?â
he sent you a shrug, âiâll live,â
there was no use arguing with him, so instead you sent him another smile in appreciation before tugging the sweatshirt over your head. it was already warm from hugging his body, and you couldn't help the way the smell of his cologne lingered in the soft material. you had to keep yourself from burying yourself in it, the feeling of being close to him without actually being close to him sending butterflies to your stomach.
the car ride was filled with comfortable silence, music softly playing in the background. he stole occasional looks over at your figure as you looked out the window, the neck of his hoodie pulled up to your face as you watched the street lights pass by. you looked beautiful in the dim light, he couldnât help himself.
he thought about taking the long way to your house. a simple but effective way to be able to spend more time with you. however, the thought of you being confused and questioning his actions was enough for him to stay straight at the stop light instead of taking a right for the longer way.
he tried not to look disappointed when he reached your house, parking in front of it. he wondered if your roommates were home, if youâd tell them about the fact that he drove you home.
he turned the engine off, unclicking his seatbelt, âiâll walk you up.â
you nodded, the both of you getting out of the car and walking through the dewy grass up to the wooden door. you fished for your keys in your purse, putting them into the lock before turning to look at him, âthanks for the ride,â
âanytime,â he smiled. he meant it. and you knew he meant it. heâd come get you at anytime of the day, wether it was early in the morning or late at night, he was always going to show up.
you stood there, eyes searching his face. he was so pretty to you, the brown curls that were slowly growing into a mullet to the sparkling eyes that you loved so much. the dimples in his cheeks that appeared whenever he smiled, the slight facial hair he had managed to grow, but your favorite part was the moles and freckles that covered his skin. the ones he had once complained about, but you loved the way they scattered his skin.
you dreamt of kissing each and every single one of them.
âhey, lando! long time no see!â
you both averted your attention, neither of you hearing the door open behind you. in the doorway stood your dark haired roommate, faith.
âhey,â he smiled softly, trying once again to not look disappointed from the way your moment was interrupted.
âweâre having drinks and watching movies if you wanted to join,â she smiled, ignoring the look you were sending her way.
âoh, uhm,â he started, not sure how to answer, âitâs getting kinda late, i dunno-â
âyou can crash in y/nâs room, im sure she wouldnât mind.â
what was that supposed to mean?
you looked over at him, âyou donât have to stay-â
âheâs been gone for weeks, heâs legally obligated,â she said, reaching from the doorway and grabbing both of your arms, âcâmon, liv is making martinis.â
you sighed heavily and he laughed softly at your protest that went unnoticed by her. your other roommate, olivia, stood in the kitchen.
âlook who i found!â faith exclaimed excitedly.
âoh, hey guys! just in time,â she smiled, âitâs martini and movie friday!â
lando leaned over to you as the other two talked, âthey do this every friday?â
you sighed again, nodding, âunfortunately,â you turned to your roommates, âweâre gonna head up to my room, actually,â
you led lando to the stairs, ignoring the playful teasing from the girls in the kitchen, âoooh!!â
âup to your room, huh?â
you shook your head, opening your bedroom door and letting him in before closing it, ââm sorry for them, theyâre⌠how do i put this?â
âa lot?â he asked, a smile playing at his lips.
âyeah, we can put it that way.â
he chuckled, sitting down on the bed as you put your things down. he looked around your bedroom, not much had changed since the last time he had been in it. the fairy lights dimly lit up the room, photos littered the walls. the desk that sat in the corner of the room kept your makeup bag and brushes, a mirror sitting in the middle.
he looked at your nightstand, a picture of you, him, max and pietra sitting on the wooden surface. it was a picture from miami, smiles on all of your faces. you stood in the middle, arm wrapped around his middle as you smiled for the camera, his trophy in the hand that wasnât wrapped around your middle.
âiâm gonna change,â you said, âi might have a pair of your sweatpants somewhere if you wanted to change.â
he nodded, âyeah, thatâd be great.â
you turned back to the dresser, opening drawers in search for the pair of sweatpants he leant you one day. the same day he picked you up from the failed date. the one that left you crying outside, swearing up and down that youâd never find love. despite it being in front of you this entire time.
finally finding the black material, you handed them to him, âi meant to give them back, but i just havenât seen you,â
he shook his head. you couldâve kept them forever and he wouldnât have minded one bit, âitâs alright,â
you grabbed your pajama bottoms from the foot of the bed, âbe right back.â
he changed into the sweatpants while you were gone, still looking around your room. he smiled at the picture of you and your roommates, clearly taken at a party. you wore the prettiest smile he had ever seen, dressed in a black off the shoulder top. it was from the same night he realized he liked you in more than just a friendly way.
the door opening brought him back to reality, his eyes landing on your figure and how you were still wearing the black hoodie he had given you earlier. it brought a small smile to his face.
you noticed his eyes on you, looking down at the black hoodie, âi swear iâll give it back once i wash it.â
he laughed softly, shaking his head, âitâs okay. it looks better on you anyways.â
you smiled, fighting the heat that was rising your cheeks but it was no use. he joined you on the bed, watching as you flipped through different things on netflix.
âyou donât have to stay, yâknow,â you said, looking over at him, âif you have better things to do..â
âi donât,â he said, turning his head to look your way, âin all honesty, thereâs no where else iâd rather be.â
you sucked in a breath, your eyes dancing across his face once again. it was hard for you not to stare, not when he looked so pretty like this. back pressed against your headboard, hair slightly messy, and he looked so cozy. it made you want to wrap yourself around him, lay your head on his chest.
he did the same, his eyes scanning your face like he was trying to memorize every single feature, every single imperfection that he thought was still perfect. the same ones youâd argue about, but he still always found adorable.
his voice broke the comfortable silence that had fallen between the two of you, âdo you ever have something to say but canât find the words to say it?â
your furrowed your eyebrows, âlike?â
he licked his lips, his attention now fixed on his hands as he fiddled with the ring on his middle finger. you never thought heâd be the type to get shy, almost embarrassed as his cheeks turned a light shade of pink.
âlike, i dunno,â he mumbled, âi just.. i donât know how to put it, but ever since the moment we met, iâve found myself just.. thinking about you. thinking about what itâd be like to cross this weird, thin, little line weâve drawn. if we both just said âfuck itâ and dove head first into whatever uncharted territory weâre tiptoeing around.â
his eyes met yours again as he let out a nervous breath. you hadnât realized you had been holding yours, shock clearly written on your face which made him shake his head.
ânever mind, itâs dumb-â
âlando,â
â- i knew i shouldnât have listened to what max was going on about-â
you rolled your eyes as he kept blabbering away, talking nonsense. your body moving before your brain could comprehend what you were about to do, only catching up when your hands met his jaw and you were suddenly catching yourself a mere few inches from his face.
it was too late now, no going back.
you pulled his face closer to yours, his blabbering coming to a halt when you pressed your lips to his. his brain short circuited, you pulling away before he had the chance to kiss you back.
ââm sorry,â you immediately apologized, âi donât know why i did-â
it was his turn to cut you off now, grabbing your chin and pulling you back to his lips. his thumb traced along your jaw, his pointer finger sitting underneath your chin.
you kissed him back after a second of surprise, letting his free hand reach down to grab your hip, pulling you on top of his lap. your hands threaded through his curls, nails scratching his scalp.
when you both finally pulled away, all you could do was smile. giggles and chuckles echoing through the room as you both sat breathless, his nose bumping yours as he tucked a piece of stray hair away from your face.
âso weâre in agreement then, huh?â he asked.
âisnât that obvious?â you smiled and he shook his head, letting out another boyish laugh.
âhow long have you.. yâknow, had feelings for me, i guess?â
âsince the minute i saw you,â he confessed, âyou were the most beautiful girl in the room, a smile that would make everyone stop and stare. itâs always been you, iâve just been too scared to tell you.â
you smiled again, heart fluttering in your chest. all the dreams and wishes you spent with him on your mind, it was all finally paying off, âitâs always been you for me, too. i thought i had been way too obvious, but clearly i wasnât obvious enough.â
âwe were both too oblivious,â he said, moving more hair from your face, âbut itâs okay, weâre here now.â
you were convinced your smile was never going to be wiped off your face, âkiss me again,â
âwith pleasure,â he mumbled, lips finding yours once more as you melted into him.

chapter 4
friendly reminder that i am not a writer, i'm just a girl who loves logan howlett and wanted to write something exploring his animalistic side since i so rarely see it done. my first language is also not english, so please do not be rude when giving me any feedback.
warnings: swearing, drinking/alcohol, mentions of sex, mentions of blood, violence, killing, angst, i hate the pacing of this but i rewrote it like three times and then gave up
series masterlist âmy masterlist
after sharing your first kiss, logan becomes much more clingy. heâs attached to you at nearly all times. if youâd thought he was affectionate before, you had no idea what you were getting into. his favourite thing is to press his face into your neck, licking and biting the skin there, but itâs not just your neck. youâve become a chew toy for a 400 pound man.
heâs never too harsh with it, always gentle with you. he knows youâre not as strong as him. itâs affectionate nibbling, like dogs biting their owners, and you love it because itâs such a clear sign of loganâs happiness.
it reminds you of the early days with logan, where he couldnât stand to be in a different room as you, though now itâs no longer out of fear but out of a deep desire for closeness and companionship.
and things are good for a while, like that. you enjoy the ease of your unlabeled relationship. heâs yours and youâre his, in every capacity. thereâs no need to put an arbitrary, man-made label on your relationship when most of it is quiet, unspoken. youâve never really had a conversation about what you are, but itâs obvious.
you had thought yourself happy before meeting logan, at peace with the life youâd made for yourself, self-sufficient and doing all the things you loved. you werenât slaving away at a corporate job, making hardly enough money to support your hobbies, leaving you with hardly any time to enjoy them anyway. it was good.
this is a different kind of happiness, one youâd thought was only real in fairytales. you feel as though he has some sort of six-sense telling him how youâre feeling, when youâre tense or unhappy. he makes you feel like a princess.
but all good things must come to an end.Â
he starts to have more nightmares, takes to sleeping in the guest room because he doesnât want to keep you awake all night with him. more often than not youâll hear him shouting in his sleep, deep grunts of pain that have you rising from your bed and joining him, hoping your presence will soothe him.
and you like to think that it does. you never get too close to him when heâs tossing and turning restlessly, claws out, metal gleaming in the low moonlight streaming from the gap in the curtains, but you know that loganâs senses are enhanced, heightened, and so you hope that he can feel your presence even while stuck in a nightmare, that you can drag him out of it. eventually he always either settles or wakes up, though both are better alternatives than watching him struggle against an invisible enemy.
youâve had a few more close calls, where his claws get a little too close, where you let your guard down and lean closer towards him even though you know better, because your heart aches for him.
he becomes more human by the day. he doesnât tell you when his memories start to come back to him, but you can tell.
you can tell when you get home to find him on the couch with a bottle of whiskey that he must have gotten from the cellar, the one youâd never shown him how to find. it belonged to your grandfather, so youâd gotten it along with the house, but you donât drink very often and so you havenât made much use of it.
he takes large swigs of the half-empty bottle, the smell of whiskey on his breath and the taste of booze on his tongue when you go to kiss him.Â
you can tell when he becomes less expressive with you, no longer sharing his emotions on his face or with his behaviour as easily as before. he doesnât bound up to you and sniff you to check where youâve been, to check if anyoneâs gotten too close, their scent clinging onto your clothes. he doesnât growl when heâs upset or annoyed, just grits his teeth and clenches his jaw tight.
you can tell by the way he holds back his little noises when you pull his head into your lap, scratching at his scalp and tugging on the longer tufts of his hair that youâd jokingly started to refer to as kitty ears. you miss the soft purring, the knowledge that logan was happy and comfortable with you.
sometimes youâll plan out conversations in your head, acting out how youâll talk to him and the words youâll use and how he might reply. but when you try to ask him if heâs alright, placing a hand on his trembling one, sitting down in his lap so he canât escape, he always shrugs it off. he tells you youâre sweet for worrying about him and kisses you until you no longer remember what you wanted to say.
thereâs something happening in his mind that heâs not telling you about, but you chalk up all his odd behaviours to him needing time to deal with remembering his old life.
if his constant nightmares tell you anything, itâs that the memories returning to him arenât positive ones. thereâs a pain in him that wasnât there before, a darkness that lingers behind his eyes, haunted by things heâs seen. you canât imagine anyone would deal very well with the onslaught of traumas returning with a vengeance.
he doesnât stop kissing you, doesnât stop hugging you from behind, doesnât stop surprising you by sneaking up behind you and picking you up out of nowhere, making you shriek and giggle. so you tell yourself youâre being dramatic, itâll resolve itself in time.
it doesnât.
he goes out to run through the forest, to hunt as the natural predator he was always meant to be, but when he comes back he wonât speak to you. he shrugs you off, locking the door to the bathroom so you canât meet him in there.
itâs a small thing, but itâs a crack in the routines you and logan have been building together, the wordless nature of your relationship crumbling around you because all of a sudden it no longer feels like the two of you are on the same wavelength.
you cry silently on the couch, head in your hands, feeling like your world is collapsing. the perfect bubble that had settled around you and logan had popped, and now reality was coming in to destroy the fantasy youâd grown accustomed to. you should have seen it coming - in fact, you had, with every night he spent in a bottle instead of on your lips, but youâd chosen to ignore it.
he doesnât seem to be as in-tune with your emotions anymore, and you wonder if itâs because he simply doesnât care enough to try.
the through wrenches you in two.
you had given logan your heart, placed it in his rough, calloused hands and asked him to hold it for you. and now you could feel that very same hand, once so gentle and careful, squeezing tighter and tighter, a physical ache.
you need time away from him, away from the house where every corner has memories attached. so you journey into town.
youâre out for a while, walking aimlessly. the streets grow dark, the sun setting in hues of orange and pink behind the horizon, streetlamps turning on to replace the sunlight, though their dim glow is hardly an effective replacement. and still, you donât return home, not quite ready to face logan.
itâs as youâre preparing to head back, muttering reassuring words to yourself under your breath, that someone grabs you from behind, a hand against your mouth so you canât scream. youâre shoved into an alley, thin and dingy between two shops that have already closed for the night, their employees gone home to rest, no one around to hear your struggles.
you scream, though the sound is muffled, and cry and kick at your assailant, but he wonât let go. heâs stronger than you.
you think about logan, who doesnât know where you are, who probably walked out of the bathroom with only a towel around his waist, stray droplets of water tracing down the grooves of his abs. you think about how on any other day you would have kissed down his chest to catch the water on your lips, not yet venturing below his waist, though youâve done other things.
you hope you donât die tonight. thereâs still so much you havenât done, so much you havenât said.
and then the body holding yours is gone and you fall to the ground, knees scraping the pavement on your way down. you cry and cry, fear and anger and relief all washing together into a mess you canât name. you barely notice the sounds of your assailant begging for mercy, or the low growl from your saviour. but you can smell the blood in the air, the tang of iron.
âwhat the fuck were you thinking?â strong arms lift you up and instinctively you squirm to try to get away, until a hand grabs your chin and forces your gaze upwards. loganâs furious glare stares back at you, his eyes narrowed and jaw tense.
âi- iâm sorry,â you whisper, barely able to get the words out, and you collapse against him. because even if heâs covered in blood and his claws are still out and heâs just murdered a man, even if heâs clearly angry and dangerous, youâve never felt safer.
heâs quiet the whole way home. he doesnât speak to you as he carries you inside the house, refusing to let you walk on your own, doesnât speak to you as he cleans the cuts on your knees, doesnât speak to you as he settles you down on the couch with a soft blanket fresh out of the dryer, doesnât speak to you as he makes your tea the exact way you like it.
and then, âwanna tell me what you were doing out there? you know itâs unsafe for a pretty girl like you after dark, you donât need me telling you that.â
âi just needed some air,â you argue, though thereâs not much heat behind the words, staring down at your steaming mug of tea, watching the unmoving liquid as if itâs the most interesting thing youâve ever seen. logan scoffs, and you can see him in your peripheral vision, looking so unlike the man you thought you knew.
âthereâs plenty of air here, weâre in the middle of fucking nowhere.â
âyou know what i mean,â you sigh, and he stares at you with his hands on his hips until you roll your eyes and continue, âi needed to be away from you! is that what you want to hear? youâre different lately and it scares me because everything was so great for some time and now youâreâŚâ
âdifferent?â he laughs sharply, âyeah, iâve got my memories back. i remember every awful fucking thing thatâs ever happened to me, every time iâve been tortured. you know how many times iâve been tortured? you think iâd act the same after that?â
âitâs not that,â you argue, placing your mug down on the coffee table, âwe donât sleep in the same bed anymore! you refuse to let me see you when you come home after hunting! you donât cuddle up to me like you did before! you used to kiss my neck all the time and now you donât! youâre just⌠pulling away. and i know iâm being selfish, fuck do i know it. but every time iâve tried to have a conversation with you about this you shut it down so what was i supposed to do, logan?â
âyou wanna have a conversation?â he shouts, âfine, talk.â
your breath is coming out in ragged pants. thereâs a fire in your veins, a fury you havenât felt in a very long time, itâs intensity paralysing you. you watch loganâs face, the way he stands before you, his imposing figure stretched above yours.
and thereâs nothing you can say. the words youâve been preparing every night before bed for days and days flutter away in a breeze. all you can do is watch his chest rising and falling.
âi wish you would talk to me,â is the only thing you manage to choke out.
âyouâre not getting that version of me back,â he says, voice finally softening into something resembling his usual gruff but not unkind tone, âi remember who i am now. so you gotta let go of this shit, or you gotta let go of me.â

"She Gets the Job Done!"
Cowgirl Ellie x Fem! Reader
Content: Cowgirl Ellie, Fem! country reader, Ellie is western type of cowgirl, reader is southern, badly written accents(guys I am southern but idk how to write a western accent), smut, clit rubbing(r! recieving), scissoring, making out, biting, some implied homophobia, reader is written as a lesbian, modern AU, reader has female anatomy, very loosely based off of Chappell Roan's unreleased song.
Word Count: 2.4k
Resource Credits: Here and Here!
Description: You're a true southern girl who is fed up with these country boys who just can't please you. What you really need is a woman, but that's kind of hard to seek out in a small southern town. When Ellie Williams moves into your town along with Joel Miller, she ends up working at the farm nearby, and you really want her. It's true: only a woman knows how to treat a woman right.
Wow, you really hated living in the south sometimes. You mostly loved the summer heat complimentary with trips to the creek on the weekends. You always loved going to rodeos where you obsessed over the dandies. You loved southern food, the nature, the farms and the small town life.
What you didn't love was the men.
You were always a romantic at heart, reading steamy western novels with a flashlight under your blankets at the age of 14 or writing love letters you'd never send to cowboys in town. However, as you grew up into a woman, you realized you'd slowly started replacing the men with cowgirls. You spent your nights wondering what it'd be like to be actually satisfied in a relationship. You grew up in a traditional-minded town, so you tried to push down those desires. You had a couple boyfriends, but men just weren't it for you. They were too rough, too awkward with you in bed, too greedy. None of them knew how to please a woman, at least not a woman like you. After a while, you gave up on the dream cowgirl you had in mind. The novels became difficult to pick up once you began to believe you'd never get the chance to experience real passion or real pleasure. That was what you'd felt like, at least until Ellie moved into your town.
Ellie Williams wasn't much for the south. She was a western girl at heart, adorned with thick leather boots and messy auburn hair. You'd seen cowgirls before, so that wasn't what surprised you. You just felt a calling to her, you adored her from her freckles that faded out in the sun to her messy hair that had a tint of red when light hit it in the right way. She was strong, that was for sure. Her biceps looked so firm, like they could handle if you sank your teeth down into them. She wasn't an extremely strong-looking girl, but that only enticed you more. Her eyes told a lot about her, said she wasn't looking for anything funny, but you wondered if she was silly under all the bravado.
She moved from the west side of the states with Joel Miller, who wasn't a wealthy man by any means, but grew up in your home town. At first, you couldn't tell if Ellie and Joel were related or not. Joel was more friendly, talked to older folks in town, but Ellie often kept to herself. She'd spend most of her time helping out with the farm next to your father's. It was when you were walking to the farmer's market that you noticed her for the very first time.
Your father was a nice man, well known in town. You were living with him until you had enough money to afford your own small place. He owned a farm and wasn't the most rich man, but he made ends meet. Today was a nice day, which mean he unfortunately encouraged you to walk to the local farmer's market instead of stealing his truck for the errand. Of course, you kept your complaints to yourself. Your dad was a sweet old man, and you should've been thanking him anyways, cause you met the most gorgeous girl the world had to offer.
Poor Ellie was too busy herding in sheep to notice your stare, to even notice you pass the road. It only made you more intrigued, that she was such a hard worker.
After that day, you'd always look out for her presence. You avoided using your dad's truck when you needed to run errands, saying it would be a quick walk. You just liked being able to pass by her as she worked on the farm, get the extra few seconds to admire her. You really felt like a creep, but this was the first time you really felt such adoration for a person. Such attraction.
The first time you spoke to her, she was driving Joel's truck down the dirt road after she had finished up with your neighbor's farm. You at the time were walking, coming home from the market with a bag of peaches for a peach cobbler. Ellie noticed you, and that was really when the two of you clicked.
She was used to pretty girls, the west and south had no shortage of them. However, you were perfection for the cowgirl. You wore a cutesy pair of overalls and a pink t-shirt underneath, and Ellie had a soft spot for feminine girls. She came to a slow stop on the dusty road, putting the transmission in park.
"Hey, you! Need a ride?" She shouted with a smile plastered on her face. Your heart melted. You'd expected her to be more serious or smug, but she seemed almost nervous. It was only making your heart beat faster.
"I only live next to this farm, it's really no problem." You assured, though you really hoped she'd push the matter. Thankfully, she did.
"Really, Joel would kill me if he found out I let you walk home. It's getting late."
You, an utterly hopeless lesbian, couldn't resist. You said fuck it and let her reach over to open the passenger door for you, and your boots reached up into the truck to plop down into the passenger seat. You placed the brown paper bag of peaches in your lap and gave her a quick thanks as she began driving. Small talk felt more like two old friends hitting it off, and you liked her accent. It made you a tad more comfortable.
The two of you grew really close after that day. She'd be in the local rodeos and you looked forward to the sleepovers that came after. A few months of friendship helped you get to know her in a way that you could confidently call her your best friend. You still liked her though, feelings only growing the more the two of you bonded. You noticed that while she was a bit shy, she came out of her shell when she was around people she knew. She was quite sarcastic to Joel, and you loved the way she made fun of you at times. It made your heart flutter, and you imagined she was saying the opposite of whatever insult she had created for you.
Ellie wasn't much like what you'd imagined, and you partially felt bad for the feelings harbored away for her. She was a cowgirl who loved horses, sure. But she shared some private interests with you that shouldn't have made you want her more, but it did. One night, Ellie and you were sitting outside in her cow field, a blanket laid out beneath the two of you. She turned to you with a genuine smile, the warm look that she only gave very few people, and spoke in a quiet voice.
"You know, I've always wanted to go to space."
You turned to face her with slightly raised eyebrows. "Really? You? In Space?" You couldn't help the surprise in your tone.
She laughed softly at your expression. "Yes, dumbass. I used to listen to the first moon landing recording on repeat. Somethin' about it was really magical, ya know?"
You couldn't help but melt a little at her confession. The thought of Ellie being obsessed with astronauts was really endearing. But you couldn't stop the teasing, either.
"Is that why you have those nerdy space comics on your shelf? You told me those were Joel's!"
Ellie scoffed and swatted your arm playfully, but her hand lingered on your skin. "That's a topic for another time. Be grateful I share my secrets with ya."
You felt the warmth of her fingers, the way they softly traced patterns on your bare arm. Right then and there, you suddenly needed to risk it all.
"Ellie...I..I really need to tell you something." You sounded shaky and uncertain, but you needed to get your feelings out, even if it meant facing a possible rejection. This girl was too perfect to let get away.
"Yeah, what's up?" She sounded curious, unaware. That made you feel uneasy.
"I just..well, when I first saw you, I thought of you as a completely different person. And I really liked you. I liked you in a romantic way. I got to know you, though. The thing is, I think I like you even more. And I'm so sorry if you-" You were suddenly cut off when her plush lips met yours.
You were shocked, but quickly kissed her back, hands grasping at her everywhere, pulling her to lay on her side so you could tangle your legs with hers. It felt so nice to be kissing her. She tasted like fruit and smelled even better, and her tongue felt hypnotizing against yours. It made you crave much more.
Soon, you were rolled onto your back so the cowgirl could lay on top of you. Her hands were trailing from your sides to your stomach, her hand pausing above your shirt, her eyes meeting yours to search for any hesitation. When you nodded, her hands slid up your shirt to massage your tits through the fabric of your cotton bra. You let out a quiet whine, the feeling of her weight pressed on your body, and she leaned in to press her lips against your neck. In response, you tilted your head back, desperately craving more of her. You could feel the shakiness of her breath, and it reminded you that she was just as nervous as you were.
"Do you wanna keep going?" She asked, and you really noticed how different her tone was from when she was usually speaking to people. One of her hands trailed down the button of your jeans, and she didn't continue until you nodded.
Her hand quickly unzipped your jeans, her eyes meeting yours. She thought you were just too beautiful, looking up at her with wide eyes. She adored you. Her fingers slipped into your panties, and she let out a little "fuck" when she felt the damp patch in your panties. You laughed with a tinge of embarrassment.
"Please, Ellie." You sounded so desperate, Ellie quickly leaned up to plant a kiss on your lips. This one was much more confident, more sloppy and hungry than the first. She took your tongue into her mouth, giving it a hard suck which made you buck up into her hand, trying to get her to just fuck you.
"Patience, mkay?" She said softly as she pulled away, a shaky exhale leaving her mouth at the sight of the string of saliva the kiss had pulled from the two of you.
You nodded even though you weren't the most patient person. Ellie kept you at bay by rubbing at your clit with the pad of her finger, swirling moisture around the soft bud. You made one of the most heavenly sounds Ellie had ever heard, your eyes fluttering shut as she touched you. For the first time, someone actually focused on you. She struggled to pull your shirt off with just hand but you helped her out and soon, your bra was quickly unclasped. Ellie continued to rub at your clit as much as she could through your jeans, but she eventually gave up and pulled her hand out of your jeans, eliciting a cute whine from you.
"Off, please?" She requested, her voice so sweet and yet so demanding. Now that she knew you wanted her, she wasn't playing around. You nodded eagerly and lifted your hips as much as possible to pull your jeans and panties over your hips. Soon, you were left naked on the blanket. Ellie sat up to strip off her own clothes and you admired the sight.
Something about watching the girl strip, her pale skin coming into view in contrast to the stars above the two of you, it was perfection. Her body was slim and she was lean but had muscle on her. There they were, those perfect biceps..you couldn't help but sit up with her to plant kisses on them which soon turned into hungry little bites.
She let out a shaky laugh at your biting and joked with you, even in the heat of the moment. "You're gonna take a bite outta my arm, jesus."
You ignored her teasing and instead moved your lips to her pointy tits, smiling slightly as she shuddered. You found her weak spots. You dragged your tongue over both of her tits, feeling her nipples harden against your touch. She was getting impatient now. She pulled you closer so you were sitting with your legs tangled together, moving to slot herself between your legs. You let out countless desperate pleas as her wet cunt came into contact with yours.
You couldn't help but buck your hips into her no matter how much she tried to stabilize you, both of your moans filling the field. Her cunt was so wet against yours and you could feel her clit and lips both rub up and down all over your own clit. The stimulation felt so good but it had you desperate in ways your body knew, your whines getting louder when Ellie would lean in for wet, lazy kisses and trail her lips all over your neck, hands snaking around to squeeze your ass.
"Fuck, Els. Please, I'm gonna cum..I want you, please.." You pleaded with her, your orgasm building up inside you. This would be the first time you actually came from another person's actions.
"Cum with me, mkay? Cmon baby, you can cum for me.."
You'd never heard Ellie speak so filthy before. Sure, she had a sailor's mouth. She'd swear and curse even on her death bed. But just hearing her beg you to cum, it really sent sparks down into your pussy.
You frantically ground against her pussy, words coming out probably incoherent to Ellie's ears. "Fuck, I'm cummin', I love you Els.."
Your orgasm hit you like fireworks, all of the butterflies you'd felt for Ellie over the months released into intense bliss. She came with you, your juices mixing together, wetness coating both of your thighs.
The two of you spent the next few minutes catching your breaths, a comfortable silence exchanged. You were collapsed against her, arms around her as she held you close. She was so warm, and it was now a comfort more than a turn-on.
Soon, she spoke up in a soft, quiet murmur just for you.
"I love you too, by the way.."

umm the crews reactions to reader making advances on them flirting and whatnot/being touchy with them? hip grabbing, shoulder gripping, just sexual touches that arent TOO sexual but they are definitely suggestive. and lets say for the sake of the headcanons they are somewhat into reader so its not like its harassment. please and thank youuu! also i love ur writing!! take ur time <33
Anon....i... I think thsts sitll harassment......
Curly is confused, might even catch him off guard with this one. If you're on the clock, he will talk a bit of sense into you about responsibility and professionalism. But in a nice and kind way. If you're not on the clock, he'll just kinda... Stare at you with this nervous smile.......... Unless it's not like, super suggestive. A little hand brushing ( hand on hand ) and he'll kinda like, heheehhe they touched my hand im so inlove. But anything else that is just... A little too much, is an awkward laugh, a lecture, or a "can you not.. do that....?" Might not even say anything.
Personally, I don't think Jimmy would like that all, interested or not. He's supposed to do THAT to YOU. Not the other way around. He'll give this nasty look, and maybe say that you're being unprofessional with a very humiliating tone so that you can feel embarrassed and he can get off to it. Win-win. I guess....
Swansea doesn't like it. He's old, and he's dying, and he probably doesn't want someone, whom he isn't in a romantic relationship with, touching him weirdly. Of course, he'd love a good massage once in a while, but you have to ask him. âThe hell was that for?â type of guy, or the one that would just stare at you angrily as you feel the shame dropped on your head like an anvil.
Daisuke, ehhhhh....? I can't see a vision for him. I'd say that if it was on the level of ass slapping, he'd be uncomfortable, but if it was like... Casual touches that can also be interpreted as sexual, he'll be kinda fine about it. Maybe he'll do it to you too because he thinks you're joking around and also because he likes getting touched. ( Extra hc, one of his love languages is physical. )
Please, feel ashamed of yourself. Anya would hate it. She simply wouldn't like it. Anya won't say anything, but she'll have a realllllly... Nervous look on her. She's going to tell someone else how you've been touching her weirdly, and she doesn't like you anymore. Or she still does like you and it ends up being like.. âThey touched me weirdly... But i like them... But they overstepped my boundaries..."
#jimmy mouthwashing#anya mouthwashing#daisuke mouthwashing#mouthwashing#curly mouthwashing#captain curly#anya x reader mouthwashing#curly x reader mouthwashing#daisuke x reader mouthwashing#jimmy x reader mouthwashing#guys that is still harassment dont say that being interested in a person makes it not harassment

This has been spinning around in my head since I watched season 2 arc 1, and I can't refrain from putting it down to post anymore.
In season 1, Jayce and Viktor get into a fight when Viktor evades the blockade to go speak to Singed in Zaun. During their fight, Jayce snaps at Viktor that he didn't know that Viktor's friend was from the undercity, and when Viktor asks why that matters, Jayce says the above: [people from the undercity] are dangerous (earlier he had also said, "there are people down there who seem hell-bent on destroying us!"). That's when Viktor grows cold, reminding Jayce that he is from the undercity, and even after Jayce apologizes, Viktor knocks his hand away, choosing to stand up on his own.
In season 2, chembarons hired by Ambessa (though no one knows that at the time) attack the memorial for the dead council members. In the aftermath, Caitlyn calls them animals. Notably, Vi shows no reaction at all to this; she doesn't so much as flinch at Caitlyn's word choice. Instead, while she does downplay what happened to an extent ("they wanted the spectacle, they're trying to scare you"), what's notable is that she separates herself from the people of Zaun. This is especially notable when she tells Caitlyn to call off the invasion, because of the risk it poses for those not from Zaun:
"Down there, you'll be on their terms."
Viktor seems to have pride in the fact that he is from Zaun. He has love for his home. As difficult as life was there, as much as the pollution led to his illness and disability, he has no shame that he's from Zaun and he still sees value and has love for the people there. This is why, when Jayce writes the Zaunites off as "dangerous", Viktor grows cold. He is no different from them, in his mind; if they're dangerous, then so is he.
Vi is . . . different.
In season 1 arc 1, Vi expresses to Vander that she has bought into and believes that those in Piltover are more than those in Zaun:
Now, here, Vi is still grouping herself in with the rest of Zaun. But there is a level of self-hatred (and hatred for one's home) that we don't see in Viktor. Viktor doesn't see himself as lesser than those in Piltover. He doesn't see the Zaunites as lesser than those in Piltover. Vi, however, does. She states this as if it is a fact. And while she loved her family, and has parts of Zaun that she likes (e.g. Jericho's food), it's worth noting that at the end of season 1 episode 1, she isn't telling Powder that they'll liberate Zaun, or fight for Zaun, or anything like that. Instead?
"This city's gonna respect us." This city. Not our city. Here is the first moment we see in which Vi puts some separation between herself and the rest of Zaun. She wants to make them respect her (and Powder). Even if she's less than those in Piltover, she still sees an opportunity for herself to be above those in Zaun.
All of this is to say that, when she has no reaction to Caitlyn calling Zaunites "animals", when she refers to them as "they," when she refers to Zaun as "their terms" . . . ultimately, it isn't too surprising. Vi represents a type of person who does exist in marginalized groups: the self-hating type, who hate others in their group for "drawing aggression" or "negative attention."
Think about queer people, for instance, who hate those who are flamboyant or open about who they are and who they love. The ones who think, "If we just assimilate more, be less of a bother, be less obnoxious, then the queerphobes will accept us." Obviously, other queer people find this type of person extremely frustrating, sometimes even infuriating, because we know that it doesn't matter what we do or how we act; bigots will never accept us.
But what we should understand, and extend compassion for, is that self-hating marginalized people are that way because it's a defense mechanism -- a survival mechanism, really. They can't square why bigots hate them, so they reach for any kind of explanation they can find, even if that explanation ultimately blames others in their own group and does more harm than good. Not to mention that hating yourself for who you are is often a result of long-term, systemic abuse -- the exact same kind of abuse that comes from living under an oppressive regime that murdered your parents and will assault you at any given opportunity, even for something as petty as your little sister miming shooting them with finger guns.
Vi says that she, "grew up knowing [she] was less than them." This is extraordinarily damaging to the psyche, and Vi's self-hatred -- and the extension of that hatred toward Zaun, not wanting to save them but wanting to make them respect her -- is a trauma response to that. One that Viktor, obviously, doesn't share (and neither does Ekko, or Jinx) -- but everyone reacts to trauma differently.
The point is, we saw shades of this already in Vi's childhood; her statement that she's less than topsiders, but that she wants those in the undercity to respect her. So when Caitlyn calls the Zaunites animals, Vi doesn't flinch. She agrees. And she speaks of them as separate from her, because Caitlyn has already designated her as one of the good ones (reinforced to her by what Maddie told her Caitlyn said right before the memorial), and because, well, those who attacked the memorial did do something horrible. And maybe if they wouldn't do that, and maybe if Jinx hadn't blown up the council building -- maybe if they were better behaved -- then the enforcers wouldn't have to invade and do what they were about to do, now would they? Those in Zaun -- or at least those in Zaun who decided to strike against Piltover -- brought it on themselves, so Vi isn't with them. She's with Caitlyn, and is okay with referring to them as animals.
It's interesting to think about.

Hate to do this, but if anyone can help
TL: DR - Due to a lot of financial strain this year and moving before we planned to with little notice, my cats and my family don't have money for groceries for the next few months. We just need to make it to January and we've been trying hard, eating as cheap as possible, not going out, no extra services, etc. Heck, I only have FFXIV because a friend was nice enough to help.
But now, we're out of money and next paycheck once we cover rent and bills, we'll have less than $30. And unfortunately, we need to eat.
So if anyone can help, I'd appreciate it. Anything. Thank you. <3
Below the read-more are the longer details. If anyone doesn't mind boosting or something, I'd be grateful.
More Details:
Basically, due to having to move at least a year sooner than expected with less than 60 days' notice, we've used up every bit of savings and resources we have. Plus, due to some other financial nonsense, including the past roommates being terrible and my spouse's work using loopholes to avoid paying him overtime, we're finally having a really rough time.
We can just cover rent and the minimal bills. Several months ago, we turned off anything we didn't completely need. That includes streaming services, games, and what have you. Heck, we wouldn't have kept on the internet if my spouse didn't need it for work.
We were just trying to hold on until New Year. The New Year means a mandatory raise for my spouse and his boss has promised it's a good one (due to several years of him getting the minimum under his previous boss who was fired for several reasons). So we've been just trying to make it and just have a few months left.
Unfortunately, with just a few months to go, we've basically maxed out all we can. The next step is trying to rehome my cats to remove the cost of maintaining them, although I hate to do it. I really don't want to. Pretty much every cat I have, I either rescued and/or raised from birth. But I'm certainly not going to let them starve or suffer.
I have been trying for months to get a job, but due to personal things and limited options (only one car with limited gas, etc.), I haven't been able to find anything. I keep sending out forms and not hearing much. Due to gas prices and such, I can't even do UberEats or Doordash or something. I'm at a loss and I feel completely useless in trying to help my spouse at the moment.
I really hate asking. My little Tumblr is just cute stuff with my character, aesthetics, and trying to be positive. I'm just really desperate because I don't know what else to do.
We've looked into state help, but I live in Texas and their "poverty line" is absolutely ridiculous. My spouse makes "too much" for us to get the benefits of any kind of help, even temporarily. Due to the crappy roommates, our credit isn't great and we're already struggling to pay off things so getting a loan is pretty much impossible.
I don't really have any skills that people would pay for commissions for. I'd be happy to do writing commissions or something, but I've never had much luck with that.
So, yeah, I just...I really need some help getting through the next 60 days or so. So if you've read all this, thank you. If you reblog, thank you. If you feel like giving anything, thank you. Even if it's just kind thoughts, I appreciate it so much.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart,
Bard

Adding onto this, I feel like the "animal" part of Logan's character is somewhat necessary to explore if you write him. I'm not saying he is an actual animal, of course not, but you can't pretend it isn't an important part of his character.
His major character conflicts can be divided into a few major themes: his memory loss, his loneliness, and his struggle between feeling human and animal. All of these are punctuated by his struggle to fit in with society due to his personality, trauma, and status as a mutant.
However, note that his conflict between feeling human and animal didn't start with him. It started with the way society treated him like he was something to be feared and wary of. This is a major theme of all X-men movies: the inability to fit into societal standards due to something you can't help.
Because Logan genuinely can't help it. I know it comes off as patronizing to some people to see us characterize some of Logan's traits as animalistic, but it's how the movies themselves portray him. He runs on all fours to attack, he slashes with claws, people ask him what kind of animal or monster he is. He's been given "animalistic" traits on purpose, because it's instinctual to him due to his mutation.
Does that make him less human? No. Does that mean he acts differently than other humans? Yes.
The main point of the X-men movies is to show that it's OK to be different. That you don't have to change or hide your personality to fit in, but that you should embrace it and find people who accept you for who you are.
This applies to Logan as well: he finds refuge in the X-mansion because they don't try to stifle him. They don't criticize and judge him for his more "feral" traits the same way he doesn't judge them for theirs. He learns that it's OK to lean into his more "animalistic" behavior and that the way people condemned him before was close-minded and wrong.
Logan identifies with the title of The Wolverine. He chose it himself and wanted to be called by it, the same way he chose to be called by Logan instead of James. This is him accepting the fact that yes, he has more animalistic traits, but no, that doesn't mean he's less human. He can be both.
He starts as a cage fighter who plays up his more "animalistic" side by snarling and growling and playing with his prey. He becomes an X-man and leans into the more "human" side when he develops genuine connections and focuses on keeping them. Eventually, in DPW, he settles on "both." You can see his "animalistic" side: he runs on all fours, he fights Wade on pure instinct, biting and snarling and grinning when blood splatters in his mouth. You can see his "human" side, too: he has an emotionally vulnerable conversation with Laura, confronts his trauma in the Void, and agrees to go to Wade's domestic house party. When given the choice with no outside influences, he lets himself be both.
There's nothing inherently wrong with having traits that resemble an animal. Mutants are meant to push the limits of what is traditionally considered human, and Logan is an example of this. The reason he hated his "animal" traits wasn't because he hated the idea in itself, but because people scorned him for it so he tried to change. Because just like anyone else, he craves to be accepted. And just like other people, he chose to hide part of himself to do this.
But what a lot of people are arguing by exploring his more "animalistic" side is that he shouldn't have to hide. He shouldn't be scorned for any of his traits, even if they are distinctly animal-like. He should be accepted as he is, instead of expected to fall into the "human" mold. He just be seen just as valuable even if he does have these traits, which he himself embraces when given the chance. It's therapeutic to let him have behaviors that don't traditionally fall in line with what is socially acceptable because we write stories where he's loved despite it. It's what we all strive for, someone who doesn't try to change who we are, even the more "undesirable" traits, but who loves us anyway.
Logan isn't an animal in the same way he isn't a "traditional human." He's "Logan," who is a mixture of both. It isn't demeaning or dehumanizing, it's uplifting. He can act however he pleases without having to fit either mold and still be seen and understood. He shouldn't be seen as an animal, but he shouldn't be expected to act fully like any other human when he's been shown not to.
Also, like previously stated, being a minor isn't a cop-out from internet discourse. Anyone should be given respect regardless of their age, and adults deserve the same courtesy. I don't really understand what reiterating that you're a minor twice achieves in a character analysis discussion. I understand wanting to protect your peace, but when you decide to engage online, people are going to respond. In the same way you're free to respond, too. I respect your preferences and opinions, but here's mine.
Getting deep into the x men fandom means seeing ships I don't agree with, so I don't interact, seeing posts that mischaraterizes one of the deepest charaters possible, so I don't interact, Seeing people actively say things that are blatantly wrong, so I don't interact.
Getting a large following is also kind of frustrating (Im not complaining I love you guys!) But I've had to block 2 people already today because they keep leaving rude replies to my comments on OTHER peoples posts or purposly come to my blog to tell me that how I view a charater is wrong. Had someone tell me that the stuff that happens in MY au is dumb because "that would never happen" like yeah bud. The writers at Marvel are too much of cowards for it to happen, hence why i'm here.
So my thing is... if im chosing not to interact with all of this- why is it still on my feed?
I feel like the more I ignore it the more I see and I do not wish to be the type to block someone simply because they make one post about a ship that personally isn't my cup of tea.
Also- I think Im starting to see the different sides of extremes, especially when it comes to one specifc charater.
Logan.
I have seen dozens of lovely stories, lovely rants, lovely head canons about this man-
But something that feels weird (to me at least) is people who are 45+ yelling at people who aren't even 18 that their story/headcanons are trash because they've "been enjoying Logan for 40+ years" as if this gives them any right to tell a 17 year old that they shouldnt write a charater how they see them.
It's also weird to me that there seems to be two sides.
Logan IS an animal and that's perfectly okay.
Or
Logan ISN'T an animal, and everyone who headcanons him as animalistic is fetishizing his mutation and are insulting him.
I get not liking a certain trope, but sir, that person is young enough to be your child. You have to accept that we all grew up with different versions of each charater. I Personally didn't grow up with any and get the luxury of indulging in all sorts of media all at once- therefore getting to see him from multiple sides and pictures.
I completely understand if you grew up with the original series and are upset to see that kids are headcanoning your stone cold angst biker man as wearing bow clips and 'making biscuits' on a pillow while watching gilmore girl with his boyfriend, and wearing pink fluffy hello kitty pants and a tight shirt that says "Milk"
I completely understand if you grew up with the movies and see him as a sexy gruff hot buff man and you love to write lots and lots of steamy x reader about him.
I completely understand if you LIKE logan wearing hello kitty pants and don't agree with the idea of him being a dark edgelord, lone wolf charater.
Do you know what I don't understand? Fighting over a charater when different timelines have been canon since the 80s. The Time Variance Authority (TVA) first appeared in Thor #372 (October 1986) which means ALL of your logans are the correct logan. Just not all the same.
Do I think Wolverine Orgins Logan would wear pink hello kitty pants? Nah.
Do I know that Deadpool and wolverine Logan is a whole different universe then Orgins Logan? Yes.
That's why people tag different logans and different aus. So what is all the fuss about?? What happened to the more the merrier?
Theres so many different versions of comic book logan, too, so don't even go there.
Feel free to ask my personal opinions but as far as I stand I could never be foolish enough to seriously go into someone elses post and genuinely be upset at them for how they perceive a charater. I get second hand embaressment when ever I see ANYONE doing it.
Thanks for coming to my ted talk. I don't care if I lose followers for this. Let the door hit you on the way out. There aint no reason to be harrassing folks.
#wolverine x men#x men wolverine#logan howlett#logan james howlett#x-men orgins wolverine#kitkat#we arent forcing him to be an animal when he isnt#but we also shouldnt force him to act normal when he isnt#hes been characterized to lean into his instincts#but also to carefully consider things and be gentle when needed#we're saying he can be both

The Music Room
SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS- Do Not Read unless you have completed the Dread Wolf's Regrets quest!!!!
AN: I have not finished the game, so I don't know if this will actually be part of my canon yet, but the world is currently awful and I...needed to be making something. But as I said: I have NOT finished the game yet, so if you leave a comment (pls and thank) do NOT write anything with spoilers in it!!!
Okay, on with the show!
~
Rill finds Inquisitor Lavellan sitting at the harpsichord in the music room. All of the other rooms at the Lighthouse had seemed barren when they had first started using it as their base, and even this one had apparently been used as some sort of storage space -there was an alarming amount of cheese for some reason- but the quiet here feels different in a way that is hard to quantify. Peaceful, as opposed to desolate. The light pouring through the windows is always bright in here. Always warm. The murals on the walls were still vivid when they came. Colorful and new. The most prominent one bears the symbol of the Inquisition flanked by howling wolves.
The woman contemplating it does not look like the fearsome hero who closed a hole in the sky and stopped the southern half of the world from falling into chaos, though. She looks small. And tired. And sad.
Rill clears her throat, feeling awkward.
âSo. Not trying to complain or anything, but when you asked to come here, you did say that you could help by giving us insight into Solasâ history and his way of thinking and⌠Well. You were pretty quiet in there while we watched those memories.â
âI know,â Aili sighs, pinching the bridge of her nose. âIâm sorry. Iâm just⌠I knew some of it. Bits of things he told me himself. Things I figured outâŚafterwards. And I knew there would be more. More I didnât know. Heâs thousands of years old, so I knew that the story of his life would be more than what he had told me, butâŚâ
âItâs a lot.â Rill hums in agreement.
âBit of an understatement,â Aili snorts. Her gaze drifts down, and she runs her fingers over the instrument in front of her. ââŚI didnât even know he played.â
âSo, tell me what you do know,â Rill says, casually plopping down onto a nearby crate, âItâs probably more helpful than you think.â
âI know⌠I know that he hates tea.â
âRight. Noted. Probably shouldnât offer him any of Lucanisâ coffee either, then.â Rill grins, folding her arms across her chest.
âProbably not,â Aili agrees, returning the smile faintly. âHe has a sweet tooth, though. He loves books. Loves learning. And teaching, too. He was always happy to share stories about places he had been, or spirits he had talked to. He paints beautifully. And he sketches, too. He doesnât laugh very often, but when he does, itâsâŚâ
She trails off, her face creased with grief and faint traces of longing.
âIâm sorry.â She says again.
Rill shakes her head at the apology but gives her a curious look afterwards.
âYou said that Solas was important to you; Iâm guessing you didnât mean that you were just really good friends?â
Aili shrugs.
âI thought that we wereâŚsomething.â She glances around the room again, eyes landing on the mural of the slain dragon and the mourning wolf above it. âNow Iâm not sure if even that was true.â
âIs that something he would lie about?â Rill wonders, her eyebrows ticking upwards, âBecause that would be some valuable insight. He doesnât strike me as the sort to use seduction as a manipulation tactic, but he seems comfortable twisting the truth about everything else, soâŚâ
Aili sits for a moment in silence, frowning in consideration before finally shaking her he in the negative.
âItâs⌠No.â She fumbles briefly. âI know that givenâŚgiven everything weâve seen, it might be hard to believe, but⌠He has a kind heart. Truly. He wants to do the right thing. He believes in justice, and he wants things to be fair. He wants to help people when he sees them suffering. And he blames himself when he canât. He justâŚcomes to the wrong conclusions, sometimes, and he struggles to ask for help when he needs it. He⌠There would be no reason to -no point- in lying about his feelings for me. I was already his friend, and I took his advice seriously. He had my ear and my protection. He wouldnât get anything out of it unless his intention was to be needlessly cruel, andâŚheâs not like that. He isnât.â
âThen why were you doubting that you had something?â
âItâsâŚcomplicated.â Aili sighs. âItâs about time, I think. Or at least, part of it is. He feels things deeply. Passionately. Even if you canât tell which words heâs telling you are true, you can always tell when something matters to him. And this place⌠Mythal is everywhere. In every mural. In every room. Statues. Paintings. Symbols. Everything is about her. For her. Even now. Even after taking Flemmethâs power and essentially killing her himself. His love for her, whatever shape or form it might have had, has colored every aspect of his life since the beginning of the world. And compared to thatâŚâ
She taps a single key on the harpsichord, letting out a high clear note.
âMythal is the All-Mother. The Protecter. The bright and beguiling moon. And IâŚI am barely a candle flame.â
âYouâre the Inquisitor. The Savior of the South. People still call you the âHerald of Andraste.â You disbanded the Inquisition, and still managed to bring enough people together to hold back the darkspawn hordes while I fight the gods up here in the North. I think you might be selling yourself a bit short.â Rill says with a curl of her lips, trying to be kind.
âThere will always be heroes, just as there will always be despots. Iâm hardly unique in that respect.â Aili replies, striking another key. âA puny mortal striking back at false gods probably reminded him of his own past. His own struggles. Maybe that was it. Maybe thereâs even something about me that made him think of Mythal. I donât know. I donât know what he saw in me. Or thought he saw. But look around. There are a few Inquisition symbols in this room, but beyond that⌠There is no trace of me in this place. Nothing he held onto. Nothing he felt was worth keeping.âÂ
Rill frowns. Fidgeting with her hands. Itching to pull out a blade to play with, but uncertain if the move would been seen as a threat.
âSorry.â She offers after a few moments of silence. âI try not to talk to him very often, for obvious reasons. Itâs still a bit creepy, if Iâm being honest. Even if I did, though, I donât think his romantic life would be something heâd be keen to tell me about.â
âItâs not your fault,â Aili assures her with a smile that does not reach her eyes, âHe wasnât keen to tell me either.â
âThe Fadeâs a funny place, though,â Rill says, gesturing at their surroundings, âIâm not always sure which bits of the things weâve found here are from Solas, and which things we brought along ourselves. Lucanis found a book he used to read as a kid. Harding says she can smell her momâs cooking sometimes. Neve said she can hear the sea when she wakes up in the mornings. Things like that, you know?â
The Inquisitor nods.
âNot surprising, given the nature of this place and the person who built it.â Aili says. âThis was a refuge. For spirits and slaves fleeing tyranny. And for Solas himself, too. It wants to be welcoming. It wants you to feel safe.â
âIt was different when we got here, though.â Rill tells her. âBit empty. Bit sad. Lonely, almost.â
âSounds like Solas,â Aili sighs, something close to exasperated fondness.
âThis room thoughâŚâ Rill sits up straighter, turning her head to glance at the sunlight painting patterns on the already painted walls. âIt was always like this. It may be small and tucked away, but itâs honestly one of my favorite places in the Lighthouse. Itâs always a little warmer in here. The sunâs always shining through the windows. The quiet in here feels likeâŚcomfort. Like home.â
âI feel like youâre trying to lead me somewhere, but Iâm not sure where it is,â Aili chuckles.
âWell, you said it yourself, didnât you?â Rill grins back at her, âThis is the only room with Inquisition symbols in it.â
Aili blinks. Makes a face.
âThere are also murals of Mythal in here. Because sheâs everywhere.â
It is Rillâs turn to sigh.
âMaybe she is. Maybe he couldnât escape from her. Maybe he never will. What she did. What she made him do. What was done to her. But the library with all his memories of her is big and dark and gloomy. And the statues of her are stiff and aloof and cold. And the little room upstairs he shoved a cot into to sleep isâŚjust depressing, really.â
She catches the older womanâs gaze. Holds it.
âItâs called the Lighthouse, but the beacon at the top isnât where the light is. Itâs not in some huge memorial room dedicated to Mythal. Itâs here. Thereâs a chair with your seal on it, almost waiting for you to sit and watch him play. Thereâs the paintings on the walls. Thereâs⌠Look, when did this become me telling you about the Dread Wolfâs heart?â
âI have no idea,â Aili laughs in earnest this time.
âReally though, this is a good room. I like to sit and read by the windows in here sometimes. The light in here always makes be think of summer afternoons. The air has a sweetness to it, too. Something flowery. Heather, maybe. Or Lavender.â
Aili starts, her eyes going wide.
âWhatâs wrong?â Rill asks.
âYou said it smells like lavender in here?â
âYeah. Why?â
âItâsâŚthe soap I use. For my hair. I always have.â
âWell, there you have it!â Rill grins in triumph. âHe kept your memory here. Away from his regrets. Somewhere bright and happy. WellâŚas happy as Solas gets, anyway. Not too bad for a candle flame, eh?â
Aili laughs again.
âThank you, Rook.â

I love your Kara. Iâm so used to her being a one note racist when it comes to Kon-angst. Donât get me wrong. Thatâs entertaining for easy angst. But itâs never criticized by anybody. How is she still on the league?
Itâs nice to see her be a supportive figure who is worried for him.
Ty! â¤ď¸ I will say I haven't read too much of Kara in the comics (Mae and Linda were my OG Supergirl back in the day and I just vastly preferred them when I was doing most of my reading), so I mostly got her vibe and backstory through the cartoons and fandom osmosis and then extrapolated a few things I hadn't seen explored about her much IN fandom for the takes on her I've written. But like, I've only really seen her be, like, REALLY anti-clone in the New 52, so I don't like to characterize her too strongly by any anti-clone sentiments even if I do sometimes include a bit of them underscoring what she's thinking/doing. Like, more like the kind of low-level ingrained bias you get from growing up in a culture with some shitty beliefs that you haven't ever had a real reason to examine than anything genuinely hateful or anything you actually REALLY believe yourself, if that makes sense.
Also lbr, it's just more interesting to me to make Kara-related issues be things like culture clash and apocalyptic levels of grief and rage that most people around her don't understand and kinda just ignore and, like, an overall frustration with other people not having the cultural context to REALLY understand what she's saying/thinking/doing, a lot of the time. Like, this is a character with a dead planet and a dead SPECIES who if things had gone to plan probably would've been "Superwoman" LONG before Clark grew up enough to even develop powers at all, much less be SuperMAN, and who SHOULD be older and more mature/experienced than all of these superpowered adults that she got dumped in the middle of who historically do NOT do all that well with surprise teenagers while also having the possibility of growing up STRONGER than Clark but simultaneously getting shit on by both the narrative and said superpowered adults, and also she's just never seemed as integrated into the hero community as, like, Dick or Babs or Kon or Tim or whoever else. Like she's just that LITTLE bit disconnected from them all, it tends to feel like to me. So there's a lot to mine there, character-wise! Like way more than just one-note clone-racism!
Anyway tl;dr: I got a lil' carried away there but I love the whole entire concept of Kara and I always wanna write her being MUCH more complicated than I usually see her getting handled. I wanna do our girl some justice!!

art & patrick at mark rebellato academy
[headcanons]
notes: i really enjoyed writing this because i just genuinely adore these characters and this movie so much. there's so many interesting little details and nuances there that i could just talk about forever and ever. i truly hope i did them justice here lol (also writing this made me jealous of people that are good at writing character analysis' and thinkpieces bc wow it is hard!) but yeah enjoy!
wordcount: 3.4k
they met at age 12 during their first day at the mark rebellato academy in their now shared room.Â
when art came in with a duffel bag (that looked comically big next to his scrawny kid body) patrick was already sitting on the bed he had claimed(the right side next to the door) all by himself, his parents didn't have a very tearful nor long goodbye as they sent their son off to boarding school.
in contrast artâs mom and grandma seemed keen to embarrass him in front of his new roommate with their cooing and hugging him goodbye.Â
it wasn't even like his mom and him were really all that close though. she just seemed to want to squeeze in all the moments of a loving mother-son relationship into the small segments of time she actually spent with him.
the goodbye hug and small ruffle of his hair from his grandma felt a little more genuine. embarrassing all the same as he could feel the other dark haired boy try not to crack up at the display.
"mom. please." he pleaded with her as she gave him a kiss on the cheek. "iâm sorry, artie, but i need to make up for all the time i'm gonna miss with you!" yeah, he bets.
a few minutes later and a tear or two from his mother they did finally leave him be. as soon as he heard the door shut though, the awkward silence enveloping the room almost made him miss them.Â
he threw his duffel bag on the left bed and sat down on the edge. he fidgeted with his bottom lip, a nervous habit he's had for as long as he could remember.Â
the brunette boy shifted on the bed so he was now facing him. his mouth pulled into a toothy grin "so you're...artie?"Â
art groaned and hid his head in his hands, slumped over his knees. "no, that's..just my moms nickname for me. sorry you had to see that." he says in a squeaky broken voice which didn't help the embarrassment he was already feeling.
the other boy just brushed right past all that and said "iâm patrick." and then as an afterthought, "zweig."
"uh." art leaned back up, still avoiding his gaze. it was weirdly intense. "yeah, iâm..art. um, donaldson." he said the last part like it was a question almost.
patrick began to swing his legs a little. it was clear to him that art was the quiet type even if they had just exchanged a few words so far, but luckily patrick didn't mind talking. it was something his father always hated about him. he almost talked enough for both of them which after a little while finally seemed to break the ice of art's shy exterior.Â
art didnt know what he thought about patrick yet. he was pretty..confident that was for sure. even a little arrogant, maybe. art scolded himself internally for being so judgemental. it was quality he hated about himself, but seemingly couldnât get rid of.
despite all of that he had to admit that patrick was easy to talk to. there was never an uncomfortable gap in conversation with him. which art liked since those kinds of things made him want to crawl out of his skin sometimes.
that first night he spent staying up with patrick, slowly realizing how much they had in common while simultaneously being complete opposites, is one of his fondest memories and probably always will be. he never experienced another connection that felt anything even close to that.
their room wasn't too small but with the way patrick would just constantly toss his clothes wherever he pleased it seemed a lot smaller.Â
it's not like art was insanely neat or anything, he was still a teenage boy. patrick was just exceptionally messy.
"patrick, this shit is so gross, i told you to use the hamper."Â
patrick groaned, "youre such a neatfreak, fuck off."Â
at that response a pair of dirty boxers were thrown at his head, courtesy of art. "i don't want to see or smell your worn underwear. that doesn't make me a neatfreak."Â
patrick just tossed it back in artâs direction, to which the blonde quickly scurried out of the way to dodge it like his life depended on it.Â
"you know if tennis doesn't work out for you, you'll make a good housewife." patrick grinned mockingly.
âha-ha.â art just rolled his eyes, stuck up his middle finger and let the door slam behind him with his racket bag slung over his shoulder.Â
trying to get patrick to do anything was like trying to teach a cat to do a trick without any treats. borderline impossible. so by age 15 art finally gave up.
...until he realized a year later that patrick would clean his side of the room whenever they had a girl over so..
yeah, sometimes he did lie and tell patrick that a girl was coming over just so he would clean his side of the room.Â
you can judge him all you want but you never had to room with patrick zweig
and after the third time that trick stopped working anyway. art was never a good liar. or maybe patrick could just call his bullshit way too easily.
they didn't fight too often, it was more like they constantly got into little tiffs
except for that time where it got so out of hand that they duct-taped a line dividing their rooms into two sides. (i know this is giving sitcom i'm sorry but tell me i'm wrong)
eventually they kind of forgot what they even fought about in the first place but they were too lazy to take the tape off of the carpet, so it just stayed on there for like 2 years till it peeled off.
like i mentioned in my other post these two were BITCHES
they would def talk shit all the time. they were not even trying to be secret about it tbh. (see: them staring at anna crying at tashi's party)
they sat in the bleachers watching one of their classmates play a practice match
âdude, look at that forehand. it sucks.â art muttered. patrick nodded, âi know. no way sheâll even make it through the semester.â âiâll be surprised if she makes it through this match without fracturing her wrist.â patrick snickered at artâs comment.
actual mean girls LMAO
and to be fair, they were fucking amazing at tennis, especially when they played together
so it's not like anyone could necessarily insult them back
but it also wasn't bullying or anything
they were just judgy and loved to talk shit
art had some decorum about it or felt bad about it sometimes. not patrick though.Â
man has no shame. never did. as art so lovingly puts it âthe part of his brain that feels shame withered away a long time ago.â
art wore glasses from ages 12 till 14Â
he then switched to contact lenses because patrick said girls dont like guys with glasses and that they make him look nerdy
they weren't allowed to have any sort of electronics like computers or flip phones at the academy. not even mp3 players.Â
now obviously patrick completely ignored that rule. he had like three flip phones under his bed in case his actual one ever got taken (it did)
he also smuggled in 2 mp3 players (one was for art, patrick is so kind⌠he did charge him 4 dollars for it though. that rich asshole. lmao)
honestly i would like to insert here what i think they would have listened to but..i was like..a baby when they wouldve been at the academy so..feel free to drop your music headcanons in the reblogs or commentsÂ
they were only allowed one weekly call to their families from the communal landline.
neither patrick nor art were very fond of these calls so even though they weren't supposed to they would always go into the phone room together.
patricks mother always insisted on speaking in german with her son. he thought she only did it because it made her feel more connected to his fatherâs side of the family. not like it would fix their fucked up marriage though.Â
ânein, mama, ich habe mein deutsch nicht vergessen.â (no, mom, i havent forgotten my german) he sighs. art sits on the floor next to him and flicks a rubber band at him. âja, verstanden. ja, ich weiĂ.â (yes, understood. yes, i know.) he rolls his eyes.Â
art understood a few of the basic words since patrick taught him some german after art asked how to correctly pronounce his last name.Â
â..bis nächste woche. tschĂźss.â (talk to you next week. bye.) he hung up. his mom said i love you but he knew she didn't mean it so he didn't say it back.Â
patrick groaned and stretched out his legs that were seemingly getting longer by the day (art secretly prayed for a growth spurt that would make him taller than patrick. right now he was still pretty short for a guy his age.)Â
he handed the phone to art. âshe always talks so much. it's like i'm not even on the other line.â patrick scowls. art just nodded. he knew that by now.
art called his grandma but his dad picked up instead. it was okay. talking to his dad felt a little like talking to some distant uncle that he only saw once a year, âhow's it going, champ?â âgood.â âgreat.â that kinda stuff
the phone call lasted 5 minutes. he stood up and hung the phone back on the receiver.Â
âwanna smoke?â patrick asked already reaching for the two loose cigarettes stuffed into his jean shorts pocket.
art nodded. he didn't really like smoking, and he kind of only did it because patrick did. and whenever he did, all he could think about was how bad for him it was.Â
he was always pretty conscious about that kinda stuff, it was a little drilled into him by his dad who was the most adamant about art becoming a tennis player since he used to be one when he was younger.
so sugar and fats (basically anything that tasted good) were pretty much banned in the donaldson householdÂ
which kind of resulted in art subconsciously believing that anything that brought him joy or pleasure must be inherently bad for him or followed by a feeling of guilt and shame to make up for it.
needless to say art wasn't the best at indulging. he was a little jealous of how patrick never seemed to have any issue with that sort of thing.
patrick didn't care about maintaining a good diet or depriving himself of life's pleasures for the sake of tennis. he took what he wanted like life owed it to him.Â
maybe that's why he smoked with patrick. to try and be more like him?
also because it gave him a nice sense of rebellion.
most things he did with patrick gave him that feeling.
at the academy they were the definition of ânot sold separatelyâ
if you saw one the other wasn't far behind
its not like they didn't have other friends. they did. they were pretty popular actually
but none of those friendships were anything like what art and patrick had.
especially when playing doubles.
it felt like they could communicate telepathicallyÂ
patrick knew when art was going for the ball before the other team even served and vice versa.
tennis felt different when they were playing together. better.
and it felt so easy, it felt like nothing they needed to work on. their friendship was the same. it was so easy, so natural.
after about a year or so of being friends they started being in sync. literally.
they cross their legs at the same time, they pick up their rackets at the same time, they adjust their forehand grip at the same time, they walk at the same pace, they sit down the same etc etc you get it
also that isn't really a headcanon, like this is canon in the movie. and it makes me SICK that they were still in sync in 2019. after not talking for 12 years. shut up thatâs some soulmate shit
now let's talk about something else that is canonâŚthe pushed together beds.
yes!
now, i think patrick is a person that is pretty open with his body in general in terms of like being physically affectionate. or just being physical.Â
i don't know if art is, i think he's a little more reserved. (repressed if you will! i will!)
but patrick touching him so casually does fill a little tiny (gaping) void in him that yearns for touch.
he is a professional yearner as we all know
and patrick never had an issue satisfying those yearnings for him. (i think we saw that in the fact that patrick taught art how to jerk off ok next topic)
patrick would sling his arm around his shoulder, lay his long legs over arts lap, ruffle arts curls (âstop that, you're messing them up.â âno, i'm not they always look like thisâ),he would barge into their room after practice flopping his tall sweaty body on top of art to annoy him.
they were very physically affectionate it was just all under the guise of shoving and tripping each other and just general teenage boy roughhousing shenanigans. that counts as a love language to me ok!
art got used to patrick touching him very quick and even reciprocated sometimesÂ
also i do think that sometimes patrick would smack artâs ass as a joke. lol. (that's inspired by that video of the two doubles players doing thatâŚdo you guys know what iâm talking about)
OK SO!
the beds.
they were 16. patrick suggested it. âthese beds are too fucking small.â he complained, laying on his staring at the smoke detector that he had covered with a shower cap so it wouldnt detect the smoke from his cigarettes.Â
and to be fairâŚyeah. patrick stood at 1,80 cm right now and his feet were hanging over the edge of the bed.
art looked up from his book which he was only reading to impress a girl he had a crush on. patrick had told him to just pretend he read it but art said that was disingenuous and he wanted to know what she liked and why she liked it.Â
âyou know what we should do? we should push our beds together.â patrick sat up, grinning like he just had the best idea ever.Â
arts features twisted up in thought. âisn't that a little close?âÂ
ânah, why, we still have our own beds. just more space.â patrick shrugged.
he glanced at their beds. âuhhhâŚi guess we can do that. the beds are a little cramped. although is that even allowed?â art began fidgeting with his lip like he usually did when he was in thought.
but patrick was already in the process of shoving his bed next to arts after which he let himself fall onto the two beds in a starfish position, with his gangly limbs almost stretching to every corner of the beds. âoh. great. and iâll just curl up at the foot of the bed then?â art gave patrick a deadpan stare.Â
âup to you.â patrick grinned in that specific way that really irked art.Â
patrick did make some space for him once they actually went to sleep that night
even now they were two opposites making a whole
patrick always ran cold so he hogged all the blankets and art always ran hot so he immediately kicked them off of him as soon as he fell asleepÂ
that only made this new pushed together beds thing even better for patrick because he now got to have his own blanket AND steal arts every night
i wouldn't say they cuddled necessarily? i think it was more just like the regular amount of physical touching that happens when you sleep in the same bed
which is still pretty intimate to me idk about you guys
like their legs kind of thrown over each others, artâs arm occasionally draped over patricks chest (or literally on his face. art denies every time that he does it on purpose but patrick KNOWS he does it to annoy him. he knows.)Â
one time art had a nightmare of being trapped under a rock only to wake up and find out that somehow patrick had rolled over in the middle of the night and was now laying COMPLETELY on top of art. right before he was about to push him off (because he was making art actively suffocate) patrick rolled over again and fell out of bed. he didn't even wake up from that. genuinely just slept on the floor that night. freak of nature that guy.
also patrick for sure twitches like a dog in his sleep
and i think it used to wake art up because he's a pretty light sleeper but eventually he just got used to it lol
when art went to stanford he never finished the last bite of anything he ate because he was so used to patrick being next to him and just stealing the last bite.
patrick really really wanted to get his ears pierced when he was 15.Â
so naturally he asked art to do it for him.
you knowâŚlike how they did it in the parent trap. which if you asked them is a movie that they definitely haven't seen. ( but they did see it and art cried at the twins reuniting with their parents, oops.)
unfortunately for patrick art was very very squeamish with needles at that age (i think that mellowed down the older he got but he still refused to look whenever he got vaccinations or anything like that.)Â
so now it was midnight, they were in their room sitting on the floor and arguing
âdude, just do it, stop being such a wuss. you're not even the one getting pierced.â patrick groaned, he had numbed his earlobe with ice but he could already feel a little bit of the feeling return to it, that's how long they had been sitting there with art squirming around because he hated even looking at the sewing needle. Â
âthat's worse though because i have to look at the needle going in your ear!â art argued
â well, i can't do it myself.â patrick replied.
...
âare you wearing my shirt?â art squinted at him
âstop trying to change the subject.âÂ
âi told you to stop stealing my clothes. i don't want to do laundry that often.â
âcan you focus?â patrick groaned
âdude.. okay, fine. just give me a second.â art took a deep breath.
âoh. my god. you're not performing open heart surgery.âÂ
âshut the fuck up.â
âyou shut the fuck up.âÂ
and what do you know that response got art to get over his fear of needles for a second and stab that thing right through his best friends earÂ
the little high pitched yelp patrick let out in surprise at that is something art didn't let him forget about for like two weeks after
it took about another hour for art to pierce patricks second ear and eventually they managed but then like a week later patrick forgot to put his earrings in and the piercings immediately grew shut
so all that drama was for nothing!
i think art has always kind of been the type of guy to want domesticity.Â
i already posted about this somewhere but i kind of came to that conclusion because patrick said âhe wants to spend time with his familyâ to tashi in the alley scene
patrick hadnât spoken to art for like a decade at that point
and you could say it's a good guess but NO!Â
patrick knows art like the back of his hand and patrick knows that art has always wanted a family and how much it probably kills him to miss out on time with them due to his career at that point in time (also just throwing this out there i think art always wanted to have a daughter more than a son, like that just makes sense to me. maybe bc i think his own relationship with his dad is so distant? idk!)
so yeah
also the sauna scene where patrick says that marriage isn't what he was forÂ
(to me) also implies that he is the opposite of art who was meant for marriage
anyway do i think that art shared his wishes for a family and marriage in the future with patrick? yes
do i think patrick jokingly made art promise to make him his best man? yeah
and furthermore do i think about the fact that patrick then had to read about arts wedding in some tabloid years later? yep!
iâm sure i could think of more in the future but that's all i've got for now! i hope this was coherent enough to enjoy because itâs not as proofread as my fics usually are lol! i just wanted to get these thoughts out there
if some of these seem familiar it might be because i took some of these from my twt!
i also have some more headcanons floating around on my tumblr that i didn't include here if you want to find those, or not, i'm not your mom!Â

oh, absolutely. and i think we have a ton of agency as fans to create the exact version of these characters that we want based on the huge amount of writing thatâs been done about them! iâm all for people picking and choosing what they want for their own personal versions of things. i think mainly for me, where the issue of âis this the puppet or the puppet master talking/actingâ can come up negatively is in the posts people make wherein the poster wants to convey that they feel their chosen ideas about the characters are the âreal ones.â
a lot of people really enjoy explaining dick or jason or whoeverâs ârealâ characterization (myself included!) to an audience. the problem is that these explanations are always going to be personal to the writer of the post based on what parts of canon they personally want to vibe with and which parts they donât. is jason secretly a natural redhead with an acrobat background? thatâs been canon. does dick have a living aunt who stays at the manor with everyone? thatâs also been canon. would dick angrily deny that bruce is his âfather?â heâs done that on the page. would he instead directly call him âdad?â heâs done that too. does tim still have a spleen in some universe? who knows!
so mostly i think a lot of fans need reminding that sometimes your fav did the thing because the writer wanted them to, and itâs valid for other fans to see that behavior as âout of characterâ (because often, based on the characterâs previous behavior, it kind of is.) itâs also valid to like what the writer had them say and to feel like it IS in character (hey, sometimes the writer is course correcting back to a previous characterization, or something similar.) but we all have to live with the fact that, for example, while fan 1 thinks itâs very in character for dick to angrily want to âget out from under bruceâs shadow,â fan 2 can think itâs OUT of character because of the fact that it was an editorial mandate for him to go and lead his own team and be in other books aside from batman. itâs frustrating for all of us, i think, to talk about some aspect we love or hate in a character here, and to then have someone else come along with a bunch of comic frames from various continuities to explain how youâre wrong.
i just think itâs good for the fandom overall to try to keep in mind that this is a tremendously fragmented space, and that thereâs a difference between âhe would/would not say thatâ and âhe did/didnât say it, but it seems like he did/didnât say it for reasons outside of his usual feelings or perspectives.â this isnât to say that i totally frown on, like, gentle fanon correction where itâs doable, or that i think talking about all the wild canons that have existed is bad or anything. i just think people get VERY assertive about things that are personal preferences in these characters, and iâve had people insist that i âmustâ accept character takes that are still just personal interpretations, and it gets old. itâs definitely a fine line between fanon and âcanonâ sometimes, but i think people focus down too hard on whatâs the âcorrectâ canon sometimes. there are absolutely core qualities of these characters i think most of us agree on as âreal,â but a lot of the window dressing is more complicated than that, and it doesnât always exist because it was a natural path for the character at the time.
something i keep wanting to articulate about comics fandom, and characterization of comics characters, but i never quite feel like i have the right wording: sometimes a comic book character does something because the author wanted them to.
like, itâs things like two male characters being physically violent with each other when theyâre emotional, or a character leaving their previous status quo for a new one, and similar stuff. batman and nightwing get physically violent with each other several times because frankly cis male writers often consider violence to be the ultimate form of male emotional outlet, whether it really would or would not be those particular charactersâ actual reactions. nightwing wanted to âget out from under batmanâs shadowâ because editorial wanted him to so they could run him as a main hero instead of a sidekick. itâs things like that.
i think a lot of the endless essays and arguments about âcorrect characterizationsâ that circle back to âhere on the page you can see the character saying/doing that very thingâ are often hollow and kind of inept with this awareness that some character actions are directly invented by writer and editorial desire. of course nightwing âcanonicallyâ said this kind of dopey and contradictory thing about himself - his current writer specifically has an agenda to write him that way. of course suddenly batman will talk about how jason todd was âalways violentâ (he wasnât) and âangryâ (also factually untrue) because editorial wants the character to have a specific foundation for his current all over the place behavior.
like, sometimes these essays come off like you forget there are big white cis male hands up these guys asses at almost all times. sometimes they do things because itâs what theyâd do. but sometimes they do things because a nerdy comic guy with intense daddy issues is making them say and do it. youâve got to learn to separate that a bit before you publish your big screed about how dick/jason/bruce/tim is stupid/evil/abusive/annoying on their own terms, because so often the behaviors youâre mad at them for arenât really natural character arcs and movements, theyâre clumsy behind the scenes puppet fumbling. you have to learn the difference on your own.

Fic writer interview thank you for the tag @481boxboxbaby and @souvenir116
Tagging @saviour-of-lord and @ilyarozanove (not sure if you have been tagged already and no pressure if you don't like tag games!) and anyone else who wants to do this feel free to use this as your invite.
How many works do you have on AO3? 155 - Wow okay I donât know how I ended up writing so many.
What's your total AO3 word count? 1,076,320
What are your top 5 fics by kudos? 1. Preloved 2. Good Boy 3. A million times over 4. Weak 5. My Pretty Princess
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? I try to respond to comments and I have gotten a lot better at it. If I have ever not responded it's because I have left it too late and then panic over whether it's still appropriate to respond!! I read all comments though, itâs the biggest motivator so thank you to everyone who leaves comments on fics, I appreciate you all <3
What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending? Either âOne last nightâ or âHitching a rideâ Both are open ended though.Â
What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending? There are a lot that have happy endings but off the top of my head I will go with âA million times overâ. Itâs just an overall short cute one-shot.
Do you write crossovers? No
Have you ever received hate on a fic? If I have then I have forgotten about it because I canât recall any hate coming in. I am sure there are plenty of people who hate my stories though, Iâve just been lucky they havenât told me about it!Â
Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Yes I do and lots of it. Almost any kind. Dom/sub, pain play, tentacles, omegaverse, lots of kinks, nice soft sex, loss of virginity. I would definitely say varied!
Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not stolen but hmmm I have seen something very close to what I have written.Â
Have you ever had a fic translated? No, not that I have seen anyway. I have had people ask before but I am not sure if they ever actually translated them.
Have you ever co-written a fic before? No but I have spoken about it with @481boxboxbaby unfortunately I am disastrously disorganised so I donât know if I should really inflict that on other people đ I do think it would be fun to have a fic with a set up and then multiple authors taking a chapter each to write the scenario from various drivers points of view. That would take a lot of organising though.
What's your all-time favorite ship? Lestappen
What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will? There are so many of them, I have a folder full of random wips that will likely never be finished. At the moment I am fighting my way to try and finish a cowboy Max au one shot, I have started it and deleted it soooo many times, I will finish it though, itâs just not clicking right now!Â
What are your writing strengths? I guess maybe just having a certain level of creativity when it comes to coming up with ideas. That can also be my downfall because there are too many ideas pinging around for me to concentrate on one!Â
What are your writing weaknesses? I always say that my writing style is more about a general vibe rather than it being grammatically correct đŹ
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic? Iâve personally never done it. Iâd have to use google translate and I wouldnât trust that it would read properly.
What was the first fandom you wrote for? F1
What's a fandom/ship you haven't written for yet but want to?Charles/Oscar or Max/Rico Verhoeven. I will get around to writing them eventually
What's your favorite fic you've written? Itâs probably recency bias but the fic I am writing and posting right now âPrelovedâ is probably my favourite. I think it's also super encouraging when people are commenting and enjoying the story so it has made the whole thing more enjoyable. I will definitely be writing some more multi chaptered fics going forward. Of the one shots maybe The Sweetest Deal because it plays into my love of babygirl Max.

Sorry if its too much to ask but im a mileven turning into a byler and i honestly doubt it happening, can you convince me or at least explain so i can understand
Hello, how are you doing?
Ok, so first things first. I won't try and convince you of anything because I genuinely do feel that shipping should be organic, but I'll provide textual evidence and comparisons you can use to guide you.
This got extremely long lmao.
Will Byers was always meant to be canonically homosexual
I think the most important point to start with is this. Will was always meant to be gay, and his queercoding was present from the start. His own father used the f- slur to talk about him, his bullies always attacked his sexuality and even Hopper assumed he was the victim of a hate crime.
So we know that from the very beginning, they wanted him to be gay but his sexuality was never treated as a joke. I think is important to note the difference between internal dialogue and external dialogue when it comes to writing or presenting an idea.
Mike and Will's relationship has been treated differently from the start
Let's assume they were always meant to be viewed as closer friends. This could possibly work if weren't for Dustin and Mike's conversation during season 1 where Mike explicitly tells him that he and Lucas are his best friends. So theoretically, there should be no difference in how their relationships are shown within canon.
It'd be one thing for the three boys to address that Mike and Will are different, is another thing for the story to show and tell us that.
And you might be asking yourself, how do they do that?
Firstly, they do it by singling Mike out. When Will's "body" was found, we see all of their reactions right? But the only person that snaps to someone he was being kind to up until that point is Mike.
Just him.
Lucas says: "It's really him" and Dustin appears to want to cry, but Mike is the one who snaps at El, who tells her she told him Will was alive, and then he asks "What is wrong with you?"
He's the only person we follow home, he's the only one we see breaking down in his mother's arms. He's the only person they really focus on, and this is where I need you to ask yourself why.
I won't give you an answer because I really want you to think about it, but if all these boys are best friends, if all of them collectively care about Will like we know they do, why was Mike singled out for his reaction?
Mike is also the only person, besides Will's own mother, who believes wholeheartedly he is alive. When questioned by Lucas about it, he claims he doesn't have an explanation for the body, but he just "knows" is not him.
Considering that not even Jonathan believed Will was alive - and we all know he loves his brother more than anything - I also ask you to ask yourself why that is.
Why did Mike seemingly "just know" Will was alive when the only person who had that same gut feeling was Will's mother, the person who gave birth to him? No one else did. Not Lucas, not Dustin, not Jonathan.
Just Mike and Joyce.
Again, if these boys have been friends for years at this point, why is Mike's belief system the one that diverges from the others? Why didn't he also keep assuming Will was dead until he heard his voice?
And if all of their friendships were meant to be seen as equal, why did the reveal of the walkie-talkie happen with just Mike there? I mean, all of them cared about Will, so why not have all of them there? Why not show them collectively reacting to it?
During season 2, we again see Mike being singled out when it comes to Will.
Again, Mike himself told Dustin they were all his best friends. That's what was said to us, so is not really about friendship, but rather about the intricacies of caring and of love.
In season 2, Mike says: "He's quiet today" and Lucas says: "He's always quiet" and Mike says something along the lines of "This feels different or this is different". Again, they are showing us that Mike appears to be more in tune with Will.
This proves to be the point whenever Will is having one of his visions and Mike is the one who pulls him out of them. When Will calls Mike during Halloween, Mike mysteriously shows up there almost as if he heard him call.
They also drew a very explicit parallel between Will and Mike and Nancy and Jonathan. When Nancy got through the mini portal, she started calling out to him and he pulled her back. When Will was in that vision state, he called Mike and Mike pulled him out of it.
And just a forewarning, I will make comparisons to Mike and El's relationship but I mean no disrespect to you or your ship. Is just how I perceive things but that doesn't mean you are less valid for seeing things differently and I'll try not to get into deep about how I feel about their relationship.
When El called Mike, he never heard her. He never felt her.
He thought he saw Eleven, but didn't go after her nor did he actively try and find her even when he kept trying to reach her in his walkie-talkie. He never dragged himself to the middle of the woods to find her, he never went against explicit orders from a police officer to go after her.
And then we have a scene that tells us exactly how Mike and Will met.
We face the same conundrum when Mike blows daggers at Dustin for trying to help Will and tells Will "he'd take him home" only to take him to his own house.
When Will explains to him what is happening, he tells him not to tell the others because they wouldn't understand and then he says he feels like he's going crazy and well Mike says they'll go crazy together. And the thing is, the writers could have easily thrown in something innocuous like: "No you're not going crazy", or "This feeling will pass" or not have Will say anything about going crazy at all. The scene would come off as way less romantic and it would still have worked.
And again, we know all of them care about each other, that they'd do anything for each other. But, Mike is the only one of them who is there.
He is standing there, watching his friend be in pain, and he tells him that asking him to be his friend was the best thing he ever done.
So I ask you again, why was Mike singled out. Why was he the only one there from the party?
And let's compare the content of what is said, shall we?
Joyce informs Will of his birthday, and how he gave someone a toy because the person was sad.
Jonathan tells Will about the day their father left and they built Castle Byers together.
All of those moments start to sound really small compared to this monumental thing Mike shares because the thing is. Will is aware that his birthday is March 22 (and so are the writers but I digress), and he knows that he and Jonathan built the castle when Lonnie left.
And he also knows when he and Mike met. What he didn't know, up until that point, is that it meant that much to Mike. Was that, canonically, Mike viewed it as the best choice he ever made.
During season 3, both Lucas and Mike were the source of Will's anger, and yet Mike is the only one who follows Mike out of the basement and he immediately backtracks and tells Will it was a cool campaign.
Now, did at any point Will tell Mike he didn't like girls? Did he, at any point, make passing remarks about not feeling attraction towards them?
Was there any realistic reason for Mike to say the words: "Is not my fault you don't like girls" instead of saying: "Is not my fault you can't get a girlfriend?" or "Is it too bad that I want to spend some time with my girlfriend?" All of these are far more acceptable responses to Will's argument than what he said and yet he went straight for the jugular with no reason whatsoever.
In canon there was no reason for him to assume Will didn't like girls - especially considering he urged Will to dance with a girl a few months prior -. So how the hell did he go from Will should dance with a girl (which implies he didn't assume anything other than Will being straight) to: "Is not my fault you don't like girls?
And we can see he immediately feels sorry, and when Will bikes away he goes out after him without hesitation in the pouring rain to apologize.
Now, another parallel to Mike and El. When they break up everything around them is colorful and bright, Mike doesn't look upset, or heartbroken, he just looks pissed and Max straight up tells El he'll come crawling back and asking for forgiveness in no time.
Does he do it?
No.
But who does he go after immediately after fighting? I don't have to tell you.
Mike had been dating El for a while up to that point, you'd think he'd be upset that she broke up with him, instead, he looked at him like "What the fuck" and kept complaining about it. He looked more guilty about what he said to Will than about the fact he was lying to El.
And by the end of the season, we can see he looks terrified the moment El kisses him and tells him he loves her. He doesn't close his eyes, and he doesn't kiss her back, he just stands there looking utterly lost and confused.
And then they did something that is particularly gut-punching.
They used Heroes by Peter Gabriel again - the same song was used when Will's body was found.
Not only the music was the same, but we saw Mike staring at Will's house with this somber expression and biking away. As he gets home, he holds his mother and if you're thinking that this sounds familiar is because it is. We saw it before: The same exact thing happened when Will's body was found.
Now we have to remember that Mike was losing both El and Will. That both of them are leaving, and yet every single visual and musical cue tells us who Mike is subconsciously thinking about.
They could have chosen any other song, they didn't need to make it look like Mike was about to have a panic attack when El kissed him (and make it look like he was terrified) and they sure as hell didn't have to use the same song they used when Will's body was found and for Mike to hug his mother the same way he did that fateful night.
And I saw someone argue that he looks like that because he realized he loved. If that was the case, why didn't he just say it then? She heard him say it before, and she tells him she loves him too, so not only does that let him know she feels the same, but it should also help with his insecurity about not being sure he feels like that in season 4. And also, she signed all her letters as "Love, El", and he didn't pick up on it? Unlikely.
Not only do we have Finn's acting to rely on, but we also have the script that explicitly states that as El kisses him, Mike feels confused and asks "What is wrong with me?"
And oh my am I rambling, I am so sorry lmao but I still have thoughts⢠so I hope you don't mind lmao.
In season 4, we see that Mike has no issue hugging Dustin and that he has no issue maintaining his friendships with his other friends or with talking to El but wouldn't you know it? He hasn't been talking to Will for months.
Then there's the infamous airport awkward af half hug, and Mike casting furtive glances toward Will the entire time (you can rewatch the scene and see it for yourself).
Another important thing to note is that there was no single moment between Mike and El where they were alone if we don't count their argument about him not telling her he loves her.
Every other single moment of the season they share has Will standing there. They force us to feel sorry for him, they force us to confront the fact that Mike and El being together is breaking his heart, and they make us feel even sorrier for a boy who's already been through too much.
They even tell us a few facts while they are it:
Will loves Mike. Mike doesn't make him like a mistake at all, he makes him feel better for being himself. Will pictures himself with Mike by his side forever, and he doesn't think he'll be ever able to move on from him and from how he feels.
He literally Cyrano de Bergerac's the shit out of the situation because he couldn't stand the thought of Mike thinking about himself in that way. He loves Mike so much that he gives up something sacred to him just so that Mike gets to be happy. He rips off the band-aid because he lost all hope, and he has come to accept that he won't get his happy ending.
And there's something even more inherently tragic in what Will does - from an anthropological standpoint that is, because he's not giving Mike just a painting, but a sacred part of himself, of what makes him "him"". He wraps it up with lies, closes it with a beautiful bow, and signs El's name on it. He says what he feels and assigns those feelings to El, but what Mike truly has will always be a part of Will, not a part of El.
We don't even know if and where Mike keeps El's letters, and yet, every single one of Will's drawings was kept safely by Mike.
And finally, we have the final shot of the season.
At first, we see El Mike and Will standing together in the middle. Then we have Jancy and Jopper at their side.
Then El steps away and goes to the front, while Mike and Will stay behind, right in the middle, with the other couples of the show. I have a really hard time believing that was coincidental.
They could have ended the season a million different ways and yet, they didn't.
So again, ask yourself why that is.
There's a lot more I could say, but I feel like I already scared you enough as it is lmao.
I know I'm not giving you all of the answers, but I genuinely believe that the best you can do is analyze the show in its entirety. Is for you to approach with questions instead of preconceived answers. Ask yourself: If they could go this way, why did they go that way?
I hope this helped you in some way, and I also wanted you to remember this is a process. The show was meant to be redigested and reassessed, it was meant to be watched over and over again.
If you pay attention, if you look closely, you'll see small moments of Will and Mike's relationship since season 1. If you pay more attention, they'll become more noticeable as you go.
But if you take a step back, if you start to wonder why Will has to fall in love, if you question why his love had to be implied as unrequited; why at the same time Mike and El never really talk after his supposed love speech, why is this happening at all, that should also tell you a feel things.
I don't know if this helps at all, but I hope it does, somehow.

Just to make something very clear; this won't work if someone is actively hostile from the get-go. Don't bother. You can't reach them. Maybe somebody can, like a family member or a close friend, but it's not you. I'm talking about the guys who are mostly okay but kind of questionable and at risk of getting sucked into that vortex. The ones who aren't gone. Those guys do exist, though I fear they are becoming rarer. But if somebody's dropping slurs? Not worth the trouble. You, a random stranger, cannot help them. The thing about helping somebody is that they actually have to want help. You are not going to be rehabilitating full-on neo-nazis, nor should you. If they're going to change, it's going to be because of circumstances far beyond your control, or possibly their control. A lot of the time? Short of some kind of life-changing circumstances like a death of a loved one or some kind of traumatic incident or complete and total social alienation due to their own actions, they ain't changing. And even in those cases, they are likely to not change unless they have a reason to. People are stubborn.
Know when to cut your losses. I've wasted a lot of time on people who did not deserve my compassion, and I've lost a lot of patience over the years. I'm quicker to write people off as a lost cause. It ain't gonna be me. I'm too nice for my own good, but I can't afford to be that nice.
You want help? You want to try and actually get out but aren't sure how? I'm happy to help. You hate me because I'm a degenerate troon lolcow? Can't help you, don't want to help you, you don't want my help anyway. So sad for you. Have fun being miserable and unfulfilled because you can only experience anything resembling joy and contentment when inflicting cruelty upon others. That sounds awful. Hanging around guys like that and trying to just push back against them and make fun of them had me waking up every morning thinking about wrapping my car around a tree. I have no idea how they make it through the day without contemplating shoving a gun in their mouth on a daily basis because Jesus Christ, getting away from those guys is one of the best things I've ever done and I am not looking back. I feel the best I've ever felt in a long time, though admittedly that bar was incredibly low. Maybe if you could feel more at ease with yourself and stop blaming all of your problems on people who have far more in common with you than the people whose boots you lick just because their skin looks like yours, you would feel marginally better. Not my problem. Sorry not sorry.
And if none of this sounds like it's even remotely worth the trouble to you? Don't bother! You look out for you and your own first. I only do this because I know guys who are at risk and they like me. They like me enough to behave themselves around me. And I like them enough to level with them. I am in an unusual position in that regard. Might as well make the most of it and be there to keep them from spiraling into the worst possible versions of themselves.
Okay, now I'm done.
Re: your reblog: No idea why a lot of men don't want anything to do with a movement that was regularly comparing them to bowls of poisoned M&Ms. It'll forever be a mystery
Oh fuck, that fucking post.
Like, look. I understand the importance of communicating why women might be intimidated by men. But that was such a bad comparison. I remember it being circulated by the kinds of people I was hanging out with who would wind up becoming increasingly right-wing, and it felt like every single time there was some sort of poorly articulated point about the fear that gets ingrained into us, it would just push these guys further and further away. This is purely anecdotal, but I was in a discussion with some guys in a server who said that they'd talked with multiple guys who were just kind of vaguely anti-woke not because of any deeply held principles, but because someone on the left was mean to them or disparaged them. In nerd spaces especially, these are guys who were likely already ostracized in school for being weird and are looking for, well, a safe space. And when perceived outsiders (other nerds who are demographically different from them) come in and try and make a space more inclusive, make it safer, and call anybody who objects a bad person... there's a really big social element to that. Like yeah, there's probably misogyny or racism or homophobia that could be unpacked, but those are things you can unlearn. And the best way for these guys to unlearn these behaviors is just through contact with people who are different from them with whom they have positive experiences. It's not the whole process, mind, but it's a good first step. And simply telling someone off for being bad when they might not even fully understand why it is that they have objections will succeed in getting rid of those guys from your spaces, but where do they go from there? Not the diverse and inclusive spaces we would hope they'd go, that's for fuckin' sure.
I don't want to say that it's our jobs to be super nice to these guys all the time, because you know what? Yeah, some of them do suck, as many people of all walks of life do. They won't change their minds because they see no reason to do so. But if you have the energy to try and level with these guys and just say things in a way that isn't accusatory and is just matter-of-fact, it works better. They're more likely to see you as a whole-ass person if you're willing to engage with them as a whole-ass person. It's exhausting, and I'm not the best at it, but goddammit, I've tried, with varying results. Even if they come in swinging, they can be tripped up by a simple "why would you say that?" or "I don't get it." Challenging them in a way that's not accusatory so much as it is asking them to self-reflect. Why would you say that? Why is that offensive joke funny? Why do you think it's an appropriate thing to say to people you barely even know?
I'm not one of those people that denies the existence of the male loneliness epidemic, though I certainly do think loneliness is up with everybody, not just men. I think neuroatypical men are particularly vulnerable; people with autism aren't any more likely than NT people to believe conspiracy theories, but I definitely found myself taking the word of people who I was friendly with when they perpetuated misinformation to me about shit like AGP or ROGD because why would they lie to me? Looking back, there were definitely people who were racist in a more lowkey way that wasn't immediately detectable by me because I couldn't hear the dogwhistles. But just by virtue of being a enby in predominately queer social circles, I have people around me that were able to challenge these views and help pull me away from these ideas (and help me realize that my gender is more "woman?" rather than just "woman"). These friends allowed me to realize just how stupid they actually were. There's a lot of guys, particular straight guys, who just do not have that in their lives. The bigots are always recruiting and there's nothing they love more than disenfranchised young men who are full of misdirected anger and resentment, especially ones who might be psychologically or emotionally vulnerable and incredibly insecure about it. It's a really hard mindset to get out of, particularly when your views get more extreme, and it's also something you have to actually want to change. Admitting you've been played for a sucker by people with agendas and who don't actually give a shit about you is hard. Nobody wants to admit when they've been had.
There's always a lot of resistance whenever anybody floats the idea that hey, maybe we shouldn't automatically assume these guys are assholes when we encounter them; they might just be ignorant, and you can talk to people who are ignorant without coming across as condescending or sanctimonious. Some of them might be assholes but let them show themselves first before deciding that you can't deal with them. But men are like most people; they don't want to see themselves as fundamentally bad or wicked. Nor should they. I know a lot of women who have been hurt by men; shit, I was hurt by the same man over and over and over again and was in denial about it for decades, and it was only after leaving him that I realized just how absolutely fucked he was as a person, and how he'd never have any incentive to change, even when faced with the consequences of his incredibly selfish actions. I tried so fucking hard to get him to improve only to be met with the same rote excuses for why he couldn't, and I kept giving him grace he did not earn. But also I was trying for 21 years. But his problems are his own. Not every man is going to be like him. I've known men who are, deep down, decent people, but they pick up shitty ideas that linger around them like a stinkcloud. The good news about stinkclouds, though? You can take a shower and smell better. You do it regularly enough, you won't stink no more. It's not an immutable trait. But it definitely helps to not hang around other guys who cluster and form a larger stinkcloud. You gotta wash your ass, if you must, as Del the Funky Homosapien once said.
Fellas, you are not a poisoned bowl of M&Ms. You might just be kinda smelly and in need of a bath. You can't remove the poison from those M&Ms, but you can clean up and become the best version of yourself. A lot of us have the stink of a lot of cultural ideas we've been fed without question, and you're not a bad person for having thought these things one time; it's a long process trying to challenge and prune these ideas. But you might be a bad person if somebody tries to reach out to you and you go and roll around in pig shit and declare how much you love being stinky, while also being upset that girls don't want to talk to you on account of the stink... unless they are taught from a young age to ignore it, or they also want to just socially isolate themselves by diving headfirst into the Bog of Eternal Stench. Those women do certainly exist, but they're not going to bring out the best in you, you know?
It's not an easy process, and it's not easy to reach out to people and have the psychological wherewithal to be able to handle some potentially wild shit. But if you're the kind of person who believes in rehabilitation in the justice system, then you should be able to extend that to people who just have some really shitty ideas that they just internalized without question who might just need to hear a perspective that they haven't heard before. Not everybody can do it, but for those who can? Try. You might help keep somebody from quoting crime or suicide statistics to strangers online in an attempt to feel some semblance of power above those they see below them in the societal hierarchy. You can't force change, but you might be able to nudge them in the right direction.
I think that's the best anybody can do. Try to be as kind as patient as you can, but don't take any shit, either. Remain firm in your principles. Remove yourself if you have to. But at least try, even when it's hard, because like it or not, we need as many of these guys on our side as possible of we want to affect the kind of change we want to see in the world.
... And that's all I have to say about that.
