Dorcean Headcanons: Hunting

Hunting has great part in their culture. Unfortunately, there's many misconceptions about their view on it.

They have an honor code when it comes to hunting, which is taught to them from a young age. It consists of three simple rules.

Never lay claim to another hunter's prey.

Always perform a clean kill.

Nothing goes to waste

And now, some trivia on this aspect of Dorcean culture, as well as some analysis about their honor code.

Not all Dorceans are hunters. However, it is a preferred career.

Even at his most desperate during his two-year hunting, Besteel never broke the honor code.

Hunting is a dangerous job, and there are days when even the most veteran hunters return home empty-handed. As such, no matter the circumstances, taking an animal from someone else's trap, AKA stealing, is frowned upon, if not utterly vilified. And yes, freeing the animals counts. No wonder Besteel was so mad at Rovender!

As many hunters point out, they hunt 'for sport' because they're hired to do so. In fact, Vamphyr himself once said non-Dorceans would rather have them kill Orbona's animals because they're too cowardly to do so themselves—a sentiment shared by most Dorceans.

Hunters will often decorate the walls of their homes with trophies from their most challenging quarries.

It might not look like it, but hunting gliders require high maintenance. As such, only veteran hunters can afford to have one. And they take very good care of it.

As mentioned before, a hunter will sometimes return home empty-handed. As such, when they make a kill, they will take everything that can be used from the carcass, leaving nothing to go to waste. Hunters who do so are often inexperienced.

They will never use poison—not out of morals, but practicality. Poison can potentially ruin the carcass's quality or, at worst, make its meat inedible. As such, Cassiora's unorthodox use of poisoned or drugged arrows to bring down prey was looked at with disapproval.

When they kill an animal for survival reasons, Dorceans have a small rite that involves thanking it for its sacrifice in their language. If the animal is agonizing, they put a quick end to their suffering.

While Dorceans make their first kill at an early age, they're not considered fully-fledged hunters until they've undergone a rite of passage at 14 years old. They're taken to the Heart of the Forest and left there with a time limit of 24 hours; they cannot return to the village without killing something.

Needless to say, Besteel's kill was exceptional for his young age: an adult vipanther, a deadly predator from the Dorcean homeworld that can give even veteran hunters a run for their money. This was such an impressive feat that the entire tribe threw a celebration in his honor.

Redimus, on the other hand… Well, let's just say that everyone could see he didn't have the character nor the cold blood to be a hunter—something he and Thalyss were quite content with.

Mammusk hunts are held yearly to replenish the tribe's food supply for winter. This is a social event in which most, if not all, of the tribe's hunters take part.

Dorceans have plenty of songs that focus on hunting activities, extolling the strength of a particular hunter, a particularly fearsome creature—such as Broken Tooth. These may be sung in many contexts: before or during a hunt, before battle with external forces, and during social events.

Btw, I imagine the vipanther looking like the tobi-kadachi from monster hunter.

…Without the elemental attacks that is.

A surprise special adopt today! I've been wanting to do a monster hunter inspired adopt for a while now but I keep forgetting, so I decided to just do one today while I still remember.

I'm a big fan of the Mizutsune, it's probably up there in my top 10 favorite monsters. I decided to use the Soulseer Mizutsune as my inspiration because they are very cool. I have one in my party for Monster Hunter Stories 2. I named him Sanseer.

Much like the monster he is based on, this guy is covered in scars and has been rendered blind. Soulseer Mizutsunes use their bubbles to compensate for their lack of eyesight, so maybe this guy has something similar? That's up to you! Despite his weary and scared appearance, he's still quite elegant. My personal headcanon is that he got all those scars from fighting the previous emperor/empress. He survived, though it was definitely a hard battle. Again, though, everything is up to you!

The amount of times either a Tobi Kadachi or Tzitzi Ya Ku came in clutch on a hunt and just lept in, dealt a ton of damage to a monster that was wrecking me, then dipped, is astounding. I won't hear anything against them, they're bros.

Pokemon: A lot of cuters. Hisuian Typhlosian I'm not the biggest fan of, compared to the other reigonal starters they're pretty lack luster. 8/10.

Monster Hunter: I am massive Monhun fan :) love the silly beasts and like making pair of boots out of their skin. Both the silly sharks and the herbivores are pretty interesting picks, I have no nice things to say about Epioth. Tobi is a cutie for sure. 6/10.

Ok, my Monster hunter stories 1 Arc is still in development cuz i didn’t finish the game yet, but i can explain about what is created & my MHS2 AU, basically the protagonists of MHS1 are 2 furries named Sam & Sivan, Sivan’s father is a psychopath that wants to kill everyone, he kinda killed his own wife, he killed Sam’s mommy, and he tried killing Sam, Sivan & their friends & monsties at a certain point, he also believes that the black blight is a good thing cuz it helps him murder people, and Sivan was adopted by Cheval when she was 1 & he was 4, Sam just met Sivan at the snowfields & fell in love, almost as if fate wanted them to be together, and they ended up being boyfriends despite being already cousins (cuz Sivan’s dad is the brother of Sam’s mom).

Now about MHS2: the protagonist is Vyffor, a furry who was blessed with powers by the forsaken god, Vakuum (yes, pokemon xenoverse crossover), Vyffor is actually Sam & Sivan’s son (and his brother is Ender, whose story is a whole original story), what about Red then? Red is also a furry and he’s his biological grandfather because Red is Sam’s daddy, Red is the oldest furry ever not including Hydrasol (their immortal ancestor who is a big Hydra), when Red died Vyffor was 2 years old, but he couldn’t pay for an house (i imagine he needed to pay rents somehow) nor food nor anything at all so he ended up being an homeless, and Kayna & Vyffor had a pretty bad relationship because she was pretty rough with him (and Furries are the most sensitive creatures to ever exist), Vyffor, just like the protagonists Leo & Leia, has empathy towards good people, his monsties are: Losi (Razewing rathalos), Kadachi (a Tobi-Kadachi he found as a weak, orphan & starving baby), Dylan (a mischievous Lagiacrus that took a liking for him & saved him from the Lagiacrus that attacked Orgo), Mizu (a Mizutsune he found as a orphan baby that he saved from a green nargacuga), Lil kitten (a Nargacuga that he got after slaying the Nargacuga in that mission with Alwin) & Laika (a dragon Palamute that he only gets at postgame because Kyle wanted to gift him to confess with the diamond ring but he was cheapskate and he *thought* that going to a palamute den & grabbing an egg would be cheaper but all the equipment & items he had to buy made it more expensive, so he gifted him a palamute), he also have Ranmar & Atalef (a Paloumu from the Paloumu mission with Alwin), at the postgame he & Kyle becomes Boyfriends (yes, Gays), Cheval also adopts Vyffor at the postgame, and in the postgame Vyffor officially kills Zellard (although i still have to develop that story more), Vyffor is Skinny & thin due to his unhealthy diet (cuz he was homeless), Vakuum & Vyffor has a very good relationship, like a father & son but the father supports his son in everything he does, he talks with him in his dreams & every time he would teach him something new with the powers they both have, Vyffor can transform into a wolf-wyvern thing monster referred as “the forsaken winged” which basically makes him extremely strong & makes him beat up his enemies extremely brutally & at the end he’ll always ask for a praise (pats), i’ll edit & add more if i forgot something

Oh good picks! I really like the goldspring macaque. I use the layered head in worldborne that's just of it sitting on your hunter's head and I have a bunch of them in my room hahaha it's so cute. Tobi-kadachi or malfestio for big monster maybe, but it's so hard to choose 🥹

i like tobi kadachi a lot as well, but im not even sure what about it stands out to me, i just think it's a cute and pretty little snake squirrel guy :3 it's like my low rank blorbo monster
