...
Logan did not know what to do with himself. The past week had thrown him off his figurative rhythm far more than he could have possibly anticipated.
First, a lead actor who he'd already been trying his best not to look at - with his accursed pretty hair and handsome face and big muscles - decided to attempt to court him? Logan felt mocked. There is no conceivable possibility that such a beautiful - and might he add, quite pompous and bothersome - man would have any sort of real interest in him, romantically or sexually. He shuddered slightly. He really should have taken the apple his roommate had offered him for breakfast that morning, but it was too late now.
And wouldn't you know, just a week later, a - dare he say - equally pretty man with mesmerizing blonde curls and a cheeky smile takes an interest in him at his own school . After years and years of having never been asked out, no one having taken an even remote interest in him, not one second glance, Logan had two men asking after him in the span of a single week. Men who he found atrociously gorgeous, in fact. Logan pinched the bridge of his nose, glasses riding up his forehead a bit.
This alone would have been enough. But he just had to go into that little sewing shop for his dear friend Patton's birthday present, and that boy with the purple bangs who stumbled over his words and his feet was completely and undeniably flustered by Logan's presence. Perhaps he was simply experiencing an ego boost from his two previous encounters that week with pretty men, but he felt that the attraction the boy seemed to have for him was unmistakable.
And now here he was, pacing down the sidewalk toward the library, headed off to meet - Janus, if he recalled correctly - for their first study session. He didn't know what the hell he'd been thinking when he asked to meet Janus again, the very next day no less... perhaps he felt the need to seize the moment while it was present, or however the saying goes. Regardless, while his actions had been quite uncharacteristically spontaneous, he saw no logical purpose in redacting his decision; Janus seemed to be an individual with plentiful intellect, and studying with fellow students had generally proved to be a beneficial tactic in Logan's (albeit minimal) experience and (far less minimal) research. Meeting with Janus, even if it wound up simply being this once, should be no different.
Logan avidly ignored any simmering feelings that he wanted something more than to spend time with Janus just this once.
He was shaken from his thoughts when his phone started ringing in his pocket. He examined the screen, noting the time - 2:49 PM, he wasn't late for his engagement with Janus just yet - as he checked who was calling. It was an unknown number, but the area code was local. Logan frowned, pressing the answer button.
"Greetings, Logan Lattimer speaking."
-
Virgil was kind of panicking.
His boyfriends each happened to meet this super-cute space-nerd guy in the span of a week, and the second they'd talked to him they were all heart-eyes. Not that Virgil was complaining; the guy sounded really cute.
He knew first hand now, that he was in fact super cute . That was the problem.
Virgil's lunch break came and went, most of which he spent gnawing vaguely at a sandwich and staring anxiously at the contact card that had been in Logan's wallet. It simply had his full name and phone number on it, nothing else. He tapped it on the desk in front of him, glancing between the numbers and his own phone, set face-up beside his elbow.
And then his lunch break had ended, and he had several more hours of worrying before he had to convince himself to call Logan.
Something occurred to him, during those hours. Should he tell his boyfriends?
What would he even say? There wasn't much to tell, at least not that warranted calling them before he got home. If he was going to make any calls, there was one he was under obligation to make first. And if he were to seek comfort in them for his obligation, what would they say?
Roman was probably the lesser option; he'd been whining about Logan all week, and now that he knew Janus was meeting with him again today, tensions were especially high. He'd be no help whatsoever, Virgil was sure of it.
And speaking of Janus meeting Logan again today... that also meant no. Calling your boyfriend who was about to see the guy you were nervous to call made the situation all kinds of awkward. No, everything would be easier if he'd simply call him.
So, shaking his shoulders out a bit, he did. He stepped into the break room, grabbed his phone and the contact card, and dialed the number.
His thumb hovered over the call button for a few seconds too long. He cursed under his breath and looked away as he pressed it, bringing the phone to his ear. it rang twice, and then a slight static preceded a familiar voice.
"Greetings, Logan Lattimer speaking."
Virgil was glad he'd drew in a breath to hold when he'd pressed the call button, because he wasn't sure he could recall how to breathe properly.
"Hey, this is Virgil, um, from the knitting supply shop? Uh, you kinda left your wallet here..." Virgil managed to cough, voice not breaking as much as it could have. His chest felt cold and constricted, and he wrapped one arm around himself to fight off the burn of the icy spears stabbing through his lungs.
"Ah, hello Virgil. I am currently on my way to a separate engagement, however it should not take long. At what time would it be acceptable for me to return to your place of business to retrieve my belongings?"
"Oh, uh- I'll be here till four," Virgil stuttered a bit, surprised at how fast Logan jumped to planning mode, as well as realizing he knew the precise nature of the so-called separate engagement Logan was about to attend.
"That is adequate. I will make sufficient efforts to arrive before that time. See you then."
With that, the line disconnected, and Virgil was overwhelmed by the eerie silence of the break room. He glanced at a half-empty box of donuts their manager had brought in yesterday.
He could have said that the shop actually closed at six, and that Logan could get his wallet from Emile, but his train of thought hadn’t been screwed on properly when he’d been speaking, so he could grant himself a little slack- wait, he was mixing his metaphors now...
Suddenly, the door swung open, Emile peeking out from behind it.
"Virgil, could you get back out here? We've got a little rush," and he ducked out, gone as quickly as he’d arrived.
Virgil sighed, shuddering away his anxieties, grabbing a donut hole and popping it into his mouth before heading out to join his colleague.
-
Janus was sitting at a table set between the rows of shelves, reading pensively beneath a subtle desk lamp where Logan found him. He glanced up and smiled gently when Logan arrived, who set his things down beside a chair opposite from Janus'.
"Apologies, Janus, but I must cut our studying session short in about 45 minutes - i left my wallet at a nearby shop this morning, and must retrieve it before 4pm." Janus' eyes sparked with something Logan couldn't place, and he hid a smirk behind steepled gloved fingers. Logan gulped imperceptibly. "Perhaps we can set up another time to study as well- um, to make up for it, I mean?" He rushed his words out in a short breath, running his fingers through his hair to collect himself. Janus' smirk broadened very slightly, and Logan found himself watching the lines of Janus’ face as they shifted.
"It would be my pleasure." Janus averted his eyes for a moment, eyebrows furrowing slightly as he thought. “Perhaps we should exchange information, so that I might- so that we can settle on a proper time for another engagement.” Janus reached into his inner coat pocket, producing his phone and tapping away for a moment, before passing it to Logan. He took it carefully, recognizing a blank contact screen, and quickly entering his information into it. He handed the phone back to Janus with a tight smile, and Janus returned it, sliding his phone back into the same pocket before resettling himself in his seat more properly.
Janus set aside his book to pull out a few textbooks for their critical thinking class. "If we are cutting our study session that precisely short, that would provide me with a chance to surprise-" He faltered for a moment, tone changing, though it was so subtle Logan almost thought he'd imagined it - "a friend of mine after his shift. Now, where did your class get to in the lecture today?" He started thumbing through the pages of a particularly thick but small book, holding it by the spine with one hand.
"Ah... Professor Cauley was stopped short on page 461 when he became distracted with his electric pencil sharpener malfunctioning, and class ended a few moments later. He did inform us that the other class had made it to page 465, so if you need me to catch up to you, it should only take me a few minutes." Logan was rifling through the pages of his textbook intently, not noticing Janus' surprised expression.
Janus reached a hand out, cautiously setting his hand on Logan's wrist, just beneath his wristwatch. "Don't fret," he breathed, "it appears we share the same class period. If I recall correctly, Professor Cauley’s face went positively red with rage, and he nearly broke the poor sharpener worse as he tried to unjam it." Janus chuckled shyly through his words as Logan met his eyes, smiling after a moment.
“Fascinating. I wonder how I have not noticed you in class before?” Logan tilted his head very slightly, and noticed something swimming warmly in Janus’ eyes. They were quite a very lovely golden brown, he thought.
Janus shifted, looking down to adjust his own texts, but the smirk that was growing less snarky by the second never left his lips. “It is a rather large class. It can be easy to lose faces in the crowd. I’m not sure I can pick out more than three people with whom I share that class if they were to pass me in the halls. But no matter.” Janus glanced at Logan’s textbook and notes, readying his pencil. “Shall we begin?”
-
Logan was talking animatedly as he hunched himself over his notes, Janus glancing up to watch his face behind its shield of deep brown bangs intermittently as he scribbled in his own notebook to (at least attempt to) keep up. Janus’ gaze was averted, however, when a repetitive chime sounded from Logan’s phone, sitting face down on the desk just beside his right forearm. He stopped mid-sentence, adjusting his posture and picking his phone up, flipping it over to view the screen. He sighed, deflating slightly, as he tapped the screen once, setting the phone back down.
“My apologies, Janus, but it appears that it is time for me to depart.” Logan stood, a colder, sharper version of himself taking the place of the one that holds a deep passion for learning. The beautiful ice crystal, despite its beauty, is still the twin of the icy shards that cut sharper than knives or spears, Janus thought.
Janus stood swiftly, joining Logan in his gathering of his personal belongings, shoveling his own texts into his own bag. “It is quite alright, I assure you, Logan.” They met eyes as Janus spoke Logan’s name, and Janus could swear he saw a subtle, blotchy pink settle in Logan’s cheeks. “I’ll be headed down Main Street, then. Perhaps-” Logan cleared his throat, glaring down and to the side at nothing in particular as he retried his statement. “I will be expecting to hear from you, Janus.” They walked side by side out the front of the library, stopping just past the doors to say their goodbyes. But Janus had a small realization, and felt the creeping suspicion crawling its way up his sides returning. He resisted the urge to shake or twitch it away, grinding his teeth a bit.
Instead of continuing to suppress his stimming, he cleared his throat, speaking to Logan. "I am headed down Main Street as well. I hope it is not out of- I hope that it isn’t inappropriate for me to ask, but...will you allow me to accompany you?" Janus asked, nearly moving to offer his arm to Logan, but deciding quickly that that was far too forward. He settled on spreading an arm out, gesturing to the concrete path before them that led to the sidewalk.
Logan offered a small smile. "That would be adequate, and not inappropriate in the slightest. I, I would enjoy your company.” A beat of silence, and Logan cleared his throat. “Just this way," and Logan set off, at an impressively brisk pace that Janus nearly had a hard time keeping up with, having been caught off guard.
They walked in stride with one another as they made their way down the street. Janus became increasingly suspicious of the scenario the closer they got to the sewing shop. From what he knew of Logan's situation, there was no conflicting evidence that would disqualify the possibility that Logan was headed, in fact, toward Virgil's workplace. Janus held his breath when they turned onto the very same block, watching Logan's body language soften as they did.
Janus took a deep breath, glancing at the sign of the sewing shop a pace or two ahead.
"Logan, there's something I wish to discuss with-"
Janus glanced at the sewing shop's sign once more as they passed, but didn't move to stop before the door until he realized Logan had done so, standing a bit stiff a few paces back.
"This would be the establishment I spoke of," Logan's eyes looked a bit hazed, vaguely pointed towards the door handle. He seemed not to have heard Janus’ beginnings of a confession. Janus’ eyebrow quirked ever so slightly.
"Interesting," he breathed quietly, and Logan met his eyes then. "Allow me." Janus reached a gloved hand out to open the door for Logan, bowing slightly as he held it open.
"Much appreciated," Logan commented, stepping through the doorway smoothly.
-
Virgil was sitting slouched behind the counter, typing random numbers into the cash register out of boredom. He was half considering going to bother Emile, but he was busy doing inventory. And besides, Virgil needed to stay behind the register in case any customers came in. One person behind the counter at all times, that was the rule. He sighed, bringing his hand to his face and tapping on the tip of his nose absentmindedly.
The bell chimed, and Virgil looked up from behind his mop of purple hair. His heart gave a few beats a bit harder than usual, and he felt his throat constrict slightly.
There was Logan again. And the whole rest of the world became background noise.
The line of Logan's mouth widened, creating a crease or two on each side. Virgil realized that not only was he staring at Logan's lips, but as well that Logan was smiling. At him.
"Hello, Virgil," He spoke softly.
"Hi," Virgil practically coughed, the scratch in his throat making it borderline painful to speak. "H-how was your, your day?" Virgil asked, pursing his lips as soon as his words had left them.
Logan inhaled, raising his eyebrows and averting his eyes from Virgil's intense brown ones. "It has been satisfactory." The door chimed again behind Logan as it shut, and Virgil suddenly recognized that there was another person in the room. A person whose presence felt immediately familiar...
"Ah, my apologies," Logan stepped to the side slightly, allowing the person to come into full view. There, with a small sheepish smile, stood Janus. "Allow me to introduce-"
"Logan, dear, that won't be necessary," Janus rested a gentle gloved hand on Logan's shoulder, and Virgil couldn't tell if he was about to pass out from gay panic or just regular panic. "We are... quite well acquainted." Janus smiled tenderly to Virgil, and Virgil's whirring brain slowed if only slightly. He was safe.
…but… was he though?
-
"Oh, is this the friend you spoke of earlier, whom you meant to come and meet? How coincidental, that we were on our way to meet the same person without either of us having any prior knowledge of it." Logan was caught up in his fascination so much that he did not notice Virgil beginning to hyperventilate, knuckles white as he gripped the counter, or the way Janus was watching, practically frozen.
But, as Logan's commentary came to a close, it was as though a flip switched inside Janus’ mind, and he quickly strode around Logan. He stepped quickly behind the counter and over to Virgil, all while nearly whispering little nothings like "oh oh oh," "hush now love," and "come here dear."
Logan's brain took a moment to catch up, and soon he was simply standing there, watching as Virgil clung to Janus' coat rather desperately. Virgil’s body shuddered in silent sobs as Janus wrapped his arms around him, tight and secure. Janus was still whispering to him, but it was inaudible to Logan now.
Logan didn't quite know what to do, and so he just stood there, feeling rather stuck for a long time. At some point, he set his backpack and the gift bag he'd gotten from this very store earlier that day down against the counter on the floor, folding his hands before him. At some point, he registered Janus giving him an apologetic look, which confused him.
And then Janus kissed Virgil on the forehead, pulling back slightly to look him in the eyes. Logan thought from the way Janus was nodding softly and the way their chests moved together, that they may be doing a breathing exercise. He couldn't focus on much else, so he tried to follow along and copy them as well. 4, 7, 8. 4, 7, 8.
Sooner than later, Janus was leading Virgil carefully back out around the counter, both looking slightly worse for wear, but at least Virgil was far calmer. Janus smiled meekly at Logan again, and he still couldn't quite understand what was happening. It appeared that Virgil had had an anxiety attack, but the way Janus had rushed to comfort him so quickly, the way he seemed to know exactly what to do-
"Here you go, Logan," Virgil's voice was a bit scratchy as he reached out his hand, Logan's familiar black leather wallet between his pale fingers. Logan cleared his throat.
"Thank you," He spoke a bit more quietly than he meant to. He suddenly felt his headache flare again in full force, and had to fight not to shake as he reached his hand out to retrieve his wallet from Virgil's hands. He barely succeeded, but Virgil seemed to notice something amiss - he was watching Logan's wary eyes with some mix of suspicion and concern.
Janus, however, had been staring at the floor, and did not notice Logan's onset of fatigue. He sighed, clearing his throat softly. "Logan, I suppose you deserve some kind of explanation. One I tried to give before we’d come in, but regardless." Suddenly Virgil's eyes were on Janus, and far wider than Logan thought possible. Janus just glanced at him, nodding gently, and Virgil's shoulders visibly relaxed. "Virgil and I are..."
Janus laced their fingers together, and Logan's vision went blurry, everything around him fading to static fuzz as he tried to remember to breathe. He'd eaten more than enough today for this to be happening, surely? ...Had he eaten today? He couldn’t recall. He could always remember ... He vaguely registered Janus still speaking in the background, but he couldn't care enough to force himself to refocus. He got the jist. He and Virgil were romantically involved, and Janus was interested in nothing more than a friendship with Logan. That was perfectly fine. He didn't mind. He forced away the roiling feeling in his gut and gulped down the sting starting to tingle in his eyes, forcing himself to nod.
"Understood," He blurted, voice a bit raspy. He turned toward the door, reaching for the handle. Before he fully exited, he threw over his shoulder, "I look forward to seeing you later this week, Janus. And thank you again, Virgil." And with that, he was gone.
He made his way down the block briskly, trying to shake the haze that clouded his vision. The only thing he could think to do was go and see Patton. He knew nothing worked magic on his body like a good black coffee.
-
"Virgil and I are..." Virgil looked down as Janus laced their fingers together, and looked back to Logan, whose face seemed to have gone paler than it normally was, which was quite horrifying to see. Considering Logan was already so white that his skin tone bordered on inhuman, now it was devoid of any pricks of red coloring and looked almost like an empty tinted gray, pronouncing his cheekbones and eye bags even more so. Janus looked between them, continuing after a moment, "...we have been romantically involved for several years now, and even longer with our partner Roman, who you may recall from the community theatre? He's expressed to us that he's quite taken with you, in fact... And I know this may be a lot to spring on you right now, but I thought you deserved to know... it felt wrong to pursue anything with you romantically when we- when you didn't have the facts straight, and even regardless, it's important for you to know that all three of us are-"
"Understood," Logan cut Janus off, nodding. He didn't speak harshly, in fact his voice was quite quiet, but it was curt and forward as Logan always was, and so cut through Janus' words like a frozen blade.
Janus looked at him in awe, and opened his mouth to speak, but Virgil gripped his arm before he did. Logan was already at the door. He glanced over his shoulder, but didn’t really look at either of them. "I look forward to seeing you later this week, Janus. And thank you again, Virgil." Janus and Virgil watched as Logan walked out the door and straight down the sidewalk through the shop window.
Emile, who apparently had been standing there for at least a few moments, cleared his throat awkwardly. Janus and Virgil looked at him in unison, matching exasperated looks on their faces.
"U-um, Virgil, I was just gonna check in, see if you've clocked off." Emile wrung his wrists between his fingers awkwardly.
"Um, no not yet," Virgil bit the corner of his lip, muttering a 'sorry' as he stepped past Emile and paced quickly to the back room to clock off. Janus stared blankly at the floor where his boyfriend had just been, eyebrows knit in thought.
"You feeling a-okay there, Janus?" Emile dipped his head a bit to get Janus' attention gently. Janus blinked a few times, engaging with Emile as he re-centered himself in the present moment.
"Yes, Emile, I'm fine, thank you," Janus rubbed his gloved palm with his thumb anxiously. He couldn't think of anything to add, so Emile smiled carefully, nodding and stepping away to resume whatever busywork he needed to attend to.
Virgil was back again shortly, his backpack slung over his shoulder. He gave Janus a strange look, some kind of combination of pity and sadness and confusion. At least, that's how it looked to Janus.
"Ready to...?" Virgil gestured vaguely towards the door, leaning into Janus' personal space a bit. Janus offered him his arm, clearing his throat and holding his chin high.
"Yes, love. Let's get home to Roman."
As they walked to the bus stop together, neither had any clue what they’d say to their Prince. He’d be distraught, they were both sure, and significantly more so than he already was, which would be… intense. Janus squeezed Virgil’s hand in his own slightly, and smiled somberly at him sideways.
They’d figure this out. They always did, eventually.
Janus took his time on the bus typing out a message to Logan, Virgil watching from the seat beside him as his head laid on Janus’ shoulder. Janus settled on something simple.
To: Logan L It's Janus. I'd love to meet up to study, or perhaps discuss other things, some time this week. Let me know if Thursday or Friday works better for you.

Hello! Is it okay if I ask for a monster match? If it isn't just delete request!
So em... Biologically I'm a/my pronounce is a she/her. I'm 5'3 or 5'4 (not sure). I'm a heterosexual (but I look gay as f-). I love studying arts (music, architecture and etc.). A bit of history nerd and sometimes (almost every time) overthinker. I keen watching TV shows, anime, documentaries and honestly anything. I'm a wierd combo of introvert & extravert. Prefer staying at home and living my 'raccoon in the dumpster' life. Veeeeery touchy (with concent ofc). That type of a person to hold a frog, call it Garry and claim that it's your knew friend. (Love snakes, spiders and a lot more of wild animals that a lot of people dislike). Good looking flying living creatures are my weakness.
A bit about my look (spoiler I'm fabulous) ((maybe)). I have short dark brownish hair. Blue and green eyes. Small chest and a good looking 🍑. Prefer mens clothing (POCKETS AND FREEDOM TO THE WAIST) but I don't mind feminine.
I'm searching for someone a bit of opposite of me (looking opposite too but honestly doesn't really matter), so he could push me sometimes when I get too lazy or smt. And sometimes to walk me bc my home is my fortress (again home dumpster racoon). Preferably WAY taller then me (I need a pillow). Someone that can tolerate my sometimes (a lot of times) childishness. I don't really care about what type of monster he is. As long as he ok with me being me.
Thank you ahead! ♥️💓

Levi approached you first.
Though after his confession of being captivated by you - returning to the old museum in the hopes of stumbling into you once again, no recollection of him came to mind, and you would have remembered him.
Who wouldn’t?
Delicately feathered, shimmering with navy tips and darkened to near ebony closer to his chest. Long legs with talons clicked on the polished floor, but only the presence settling carefully beside you had roused you from staring toward the hanging artwork.
As rare as days out were of your own volition, you would never tire of reading the plaques and learning more with each visit. You hadn't moved for almost an hour when soft feathers tickled against your arm and in his attempt to create distance, they ruffled and stroked closer.
He may have approached you first with his chest puffed out and his head turned to focus only on you, but you were the one to speak, undeterred from staring at the wall opposite.
"Do you like it? This piece?"
His breath left him in a quiet exhale, enough to finally lure your attention to the broad expanse of his frame - failing in curling himself smaller, tracing the gentle sloping of his forehead down to his nose with a warmer stare.
In a voice as gentle as him, the stranger, as he was then, rasped, "sorry?"
"It's nothing special, is it?"
Rising from the low bench had you leaning against him - for the slightest and most fleeting of moments, relishing in the heat of his feathers, before he stood with you.
So close, his wing extended like a guiding arm, you couldn't help but reach to trace over them until he trembled.
Overstepping hardly made the best first impression, with little idea of how sensitive his wings may be, but the harpy stepped closer, lips curling. "Walk around with me?"
Your decision was made even before asking, "how much do you know of the artwork?"
"Very... very little."
"Perfect."
Many afternoons passed in a close embrace, though you were hesitant to have him accompany you home. For however much you adored a day out, you loved time spent indoors far better, and the evening came around by your invitation to share your favourite films with him.
Even still, you doubted he enjoyed them.
(You had a slight suspicion he watched them not only to have you tucked against him, but to see your delight in whispering the memorised script.)
The incredibly brief tour of your open-plan home led you into your bedroom to change into something comfier, hesitating there too long.
You returned to a sight you'd never forget, and one reinforcing the love you had for him.
"Do you mind?"
Levi bounced unsteadily on his thin legs, surrounded by a mess of cushions and blankets; a hastily arranged nest. Using those same sheets you had readied earlier on the sofa, too, and you were struggling for words.
"We've had our days out," he murmured, extending an arm to draw you close. "Now, I just want you. Is that okay?"
You tiptoed to whisper, "perfect."
Drabble
Some weeks felt longer than others. Little could rouse you now beyond the dimensions of your bed - not even the quiet ringing of your phone. The screen would brighten with the warm photo of dappled feathers, your boyfriend reminding you of your plans for the day.
You hadn't forgotten.
He never left your mind.
Though the gentle knocking at your door made you turn deeper into your pillows. When the door creaked open, your smile tucked into the sheets soon to be pulled from your body.
Not too long ago - not long enough after your first date, really, you had gifted Levi a key of his own. His courtship passed quickly and you were smitten, but he had opened the hastily folded tissue paper and frowned.
"Oh. Oh, I... thank you."
By reflex alone, you moved to snatch the key, already rasping, "it was a mistake-"
Feathers tickled your cheeks, lips soft against yours. His laughter never failed to soothe your nerves and he spread his arms wide around you. "I already have a key. I walk you home almost every night. Who do you think unlocks the door?"
With it official then, it warranted a sweeter kiss, and the same greeted you now with warm hands coaxing you from the sheets. His quiet sigh resonated like a sharp twinge in your chest until you remedied it by stroking up through his feathered chest, just how he liked.
"You coming out today, sweetheart?"
Little more than a whine was your answer, a pout beckoning a kiss. Routine warned of quiet tutting - of pleading and compromise (often in your favour), but today you wanted nothing more than to finish the documentary you started the other night with him, not to go outside.
Arms slipping beneath you earned a scowl. "I'm not going."
Levi grinned. "Looks like you're going somewhere."
This became the compromise; an understanding that though you loved to waste the day drowsy and warm, the nest he added to with every visit in your lounge welcomed you both. There was less chance of talons dragging against your legs, and more space for him to nestle tight.
"We'll have a quiet day today," he murmured. "Next weekend, we're going somewhere nice. My treat - you can't say no."
"We'll see." Levi pinched your waist and you smothered your smile into his wing, only for it to widen when his breath caught. You slipped your fingers lower down his stomach. "That's next weekend. Right now, we're laying together, and I still have too many clothes on. Want to help with that?"

Buffy: the Vampire Slayer (1997)
Season 1
Hello and Welcome back my creepy congregation! We will be taking todays service from the Big Screen into your living room for our first Personal Devotional. That's Right! We're reviewing full seasons of television series now and what better way to bring the spirit of the genre film to the idiots lantern that with the 90s Television sensation and all around love letter to the horror genre, Buffy the Vampire Slayer!
The Message
Regardless of how one may feel about Mr. Whedon we can't deny how much we love Buffy Summers and the Kids who live and die in Sunnydale! Season one of Buffy was a spin off/reboot of the earlier film and an attempt by Whedon to course correct the franchise by breathing a little charm and attention into the subject matter.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Season 1) focuses on Buffy Summers, a not so typical California high school student who, due to the events of the movie, has been relocated to Sunnydale High. Buffy is not just a cute, athletic, teenage girl looking to enjoy the prime of her life, though she is those things, she is also the Slayer, an anointed warrior who has been reincarnated throughout the generations to protect our vulnerable weak human world from the forces of evil; particularly Vampires. Buffy is a sort of supernatural Captain America, that is a peak human being, but instead of Nazi Science she was born with her powers.
Joining Buffy are; High School outcasts Willow and Xander (a nerd and a nice guy respectively), The ridiculously sexy librarian Rupert Giles (her mentor, guardian, high school librarian, and all around precious papa bear), Jenny Calendar (a technopagan computer teacher armed with all the mystery an ignorant 90s boomer could attribute to the internet), Angel (Spoiler: He's a Vampire, but he's a good guy. A hunky, broody, good guy vampire love interest), and her loving but entirely oblivious mother. The Scoobies as they have come to be called aid Buffy in her quest to protect Sunnydale from Dark Forces.
And Speaking of those Dark Forces, they are primarily vampires, led by the Master; an ancient vampire who resembles to some degree Nosferatu and a Bat, a look that Guillermo Del Toro would later perfect in his own series the Strain. The Master seeks to fulfill an ancient prophecy that would open the Hellmouth (a portal to hell, exactly what it sounds like) and free him in order that he and his kind should conquer the world.
The first season is fairly short consisting of the following adventures.
1. Welcome to the Hellmouth - Buffy moves to Sunnydale seeking to leave her Vampire ways behind, but the vampires just won't let her catch a break.
2. The Harvest - Vampire Shenanigans continues. Buffy learns of the Master.
3. Witch - A fellow Cheerleader is possessed by her witchy mom.
4. Teachers Pet - Buffy vs Giant Mantis
5. Never Kill a Boy on the First Date - Buffy vs the Anointed One (Not Really)
6. The Pack - Buffy vs Hyena Possessed High School Bullies
7. Angel - Buffy vs Angel but actually Darla
8. I, Robot ... you, Jane - Buffy vs Internet Demon
9. The Puppet Show - Buffy and Sid the Dummy vs Organ Harvesting Demon
10. Nightmares - Buffy has bad dreams
11. Out of Mind, Out of Sight - Buffy vs Invisible Nerd
12. Prophecy Girl - Buffy vs The Master (also Buffy Dies)
Overall the short season, while not allowing for too much world building, kept the show to a format that allowed very little filler. So although we mostly only get vampires as villains, we don't have enough time to really be bored of it. Some of the shows dynamics and cultural concerns definitely date the series but overall Season 1 of Buffy is definitely not a difficult watch, and can be enjoyed over and over again.
Let's get to the Benediction:
Best Character: Slay Girl, Slay!
As far as season one goes the titular Buffy Summers is the best character. Sarah Michelle Gellar is absolutely charismatic in the lead role and though at times she may seem selfish or reckless it makes perfect sense for the character. The character is allowed to be weak, to be selfish, and to be unlikeable. She avoids the foibles of a Luke Skywalker or a Harry Potter. She joins the ranks of primary protagonists who are not constantly outshined by their supporting cast. I believe when Buffy is sad, I believe when she throws a punch, I believe she struggles with her destiny. The only thing I don't believe is how ditsy she let's on.
Best Actor: Head's Up!
Anthony Stewart Head. Head as Giles is just fantastic. His balance of frustration with Buffy and genuinely parental concern is heartwarming and absolutely makes Giles one of the warmest father figures in television history.
Best Episode: A 'Master'ful Finale
It all builds up to Prophecy Girl and for good reason. Television shows often have mini-finale's at the end of their first seasons because the teams behind the series are not sure they will have a chance to tell more of their story. For that reason you can see just the first season of most television series and feel like you've heard the whole deal. I wish this habit was kept up in other seasons as we wouldn't still be wondering what the hell happened to Joel at the end of the Santa Clarita Diet. Buffy is no exception to this phenomenon and therefor attempted to tie up much of it's narrative in Prophecy Girl. While that often means big bads will be dispatched, I think it's a small price to pay for not winding up in a cliff hanger. Buffy and Giles just shine in this episode, Angel is given a more heroic role, Willow finally values herself as she should and Xander stops being a fucking horrible human being for once. This episode really satisfies in all areas.
Best Villain: Sweet, Sweetheart Killer
It's such a shame that Darla was killed so early on in the franchise. She is such a great presence on the screen that she overshadows all the villains that play alongside her, even the Master. I would have loved to have seen an alternate season where she offs the old coot and assumes the role of big bad much like Spike does in Season 2. Lucky for everyone that Darla is featured throughout the show in flashbacks and I hear she is even resurrected in Angel. Also, for Scott Pilgrim fans I feel like she and Envy Adams are very much sympatico. Maybe if they reboot Buffy all my dreams will come true.
I'd also like to take this time to recommend the song Angels and Darlas by Say Hi! It's pretty good.
Best Monster Design: Internet Troll!
While I can't speak for where the money in Season 1 of Buffy went, I can say that at least some decent cash was spent on both the forms of Moloch the Corruptor from the Episode "I, Robot ... You, Jane". Moloch was pretty wicked looking as a machine toward the end of the episode, he looked like a Mortal Kombat villain, but it's the green scales and ram horns the actor is sporting at the beginning of the episode that really catches the eye. In fact, I'm feeling compelled to hunt down any Moloch the Corruptor merch that may be out there on the internet. It's certainly no mystery why the demon's face is featured prominently in the theme song. It just looks great! Good job to the make up department there.
Most WTF moment: "Pack"s a Punch on Principle
While not the greatest episode in season one "the Pack" is certainly worth the watch if for no other reason than the horror is kicked up when a group of high school students under the influence of a malevolent Hyena God, decide that the School Mascot is not enough to satisfy their bloodlust turn on the principal, and yes, THEY EAT HIM. I remember being completely caught of guard the first time I saw that scene, and it kickstarted the running gag of Sunnydale high principles meeting their demise in horrific ways.
Worst Character: No More Mr. Nice Guy
When I was in college I often felt bad for Xander. The funny guy who just had no luck with women. He was sarcastic but had a big heart, and used a horny gimmick to mask his loneliness, or so I thought. But now I am older, I am wiser, I have known the touch of another human being and I have to say that Xander Harris is a really scummy fellow. I don't remember thinking so poorly and I wonder if the character develops a more nuanced view of women as the show goes on. As it stands there's barely a point in the series that Xander does not view the female cast as objects for him to enjoy or be embittered towards for one reason or another. It's not charming, it's foul. Xander Harris of season one is absolutely a terrorist attack waiting to happen, if Buffy had happened today it would be much more concerning to see someone so embittered, horny, and entitled to womens time and energy as Xander Harris. Dude is one step away from pulling an Elliot Rogers. Calm down buddy and maybe actually listen to a woman and you may find you aren't as much of a 'nice guy' as you think.
Worst Episode(s): If you're not first ...
It's a toss up on this one. Season One of Buffy is actually so short and concise that the 'Monster of the Week' episodes will have to be up for grabs as the worst episode by default, but even they are pretty watchable and don't warrant the vitriol a "worst" dub usually entails. I'd say there is not a worst episode of season one, just some episodes that aren't as good as the rest. In that vain, take your pick from "Witch", "Out of Mind, Out of Sight", or "The Puppet Show". However, I'd be doing a disservice to those episodes not to mention that each one of them takes what could just be a basic Buffy Vs (insert Villain), and does something unique and interesting with the idea. The villain of "Witch" actually turns out to be a has been cheerleader actually possessing the body of her innocent daughter to relive her glory years, The Invisible Girl is actually the victim of social cruelty, her peers disinterest in her manifesting in her condition becoming quite literal and she is picked up by the military in the end, then the Puppet show, well, it's just about the stupidest most absurd thing that could possibly happen and it's completely unafraid of that fact.
Summary:
Buffy The Vampire Slayer (Season 1) is not the most groundbreaking TV, but it is absolutely evident why the show was such a phenomenon. Season 1 is particularly rewatchable. It does not demand too much investment or attention, but it will get it from you, especially on a first viewing. It's not afraid to take itself absolutely seriously or to plant it's tongue firmly in it's cheeks. It is to a degree a product of it's time, but in many other aspects feels timeless.
Overall Grade: B

alrighty, let’s recap this bitch!
LAUNCHPAD! I’VE MISSED YOU SO MUCH! PLEASE COME BACK!
I looked up when National S’mores Day is (because I’m a nerd) and it is August 10. So either the photo later was mislabeled or, more likely, Launchpad got the wrong info
Huey with the little baby scouts is TOO CUTE!!
I wonder if Violet’s there. Probably not because she would have been hanging out with Huey if she was. Or this episode was meant to come before Challenge
It’s a baby beagle boy! I wonder if he’s there of his own will or if it is part of some plan
He scared away most of the kids! Now they won’t get to enjoy s’more-y goodness
His s’more sounds DOPE AF, though it probably would give you INSTANT DIABETES
“Aw, not even a modern robot.” MY SWEET SON!
I know it was the bully saying it, but Huey should chill a bit when it comes to doing things EXACTLY and PERFECTLY. It’s just gonna cause stress
BOYD IS BABY AND I LOVE HIM
“Would you like to be friends?” “Sure. Wow, that was easy.” If only it was always that easy
I don’t know if Huey has the JWG as memorized as he thinks, going by Challenge and Quack Pack
“We’re just kids.” “Definitely!” *uses laser eyes to light fire*
This episode does a good job showing what a trigger word/phrase is like, though I’m not sure if that was the intention
I like that a squirrel with a burnt tail scurries out of one of the trees. It’s the attention to detail that helps elevate this show
Instead of jumping out of the way or hiding Huey jumps straight onto Boyd to try and help him. Huey already sees Boyd as someone worth protecting
The kid that just runs across the screen while his hat is on fire is great
Not sure why they took the time to change before going to Gyro but whatever
BOYD IS ADORABLE AND I LOVE HIM
“I’m more than an intern, I’m a scientist.” I feel like this might be hinting at Fenton’s arc for the season, possibly wanting to be seen more as a scientist than a superhero
I’m gonna pretend that using sunglasses on someone who is shooting lasers out of their eyes is a Cyclops reference. And they look pretty dope too
At least Fenton knows when he is in over his head...this time
Gyro trying to climb up on the table to avoid Boyd was kind of funny. And then him protecting himself with Lil Bulb
“Which one?” Manny is DONE with this shit
“Boyd? What idiot called it that?” Even when he’s not there, Gyro can still burn Mark lol
I figured 2-BO was a reference to something but wasn’t sure what. Apparently it’s a bit of a play on the name of Astro Boy’s in-universe creator’s son. Neat
Huey stays in between Gyro and Boyd to protect Boyd
Fenton’s face cracks me up. There are NO THOUGHTS in this man’s head lol
“You were an intern like me?” “Nothing like you.” Damn Gyro, why so salty?
I don’t know why Fenton is so surprised that Gyro was an intern. I feel like that’s a pretty standard thing
LOVE IS STORED IN THE BOYD
It make me sad when Gyro mentions how many times Boyd’s core programing was altered. Poor baby doesn’t really get a say in what happens to him
“ROAD TRIP!” Huey, you do these kinds of things ALL THE TIME. I feel like he should be used to this by now
“YOU’RE not going. GIZMODUCK is.” Does Gyro see Fenton and Gizmoduck as separate entities or is this just a no, but yes type of joke?
Huey standing up for Boyd is so sweet. They barely know each other but Huey trusts him
When the episode doesn’t have the theme song you KNOW shit’s ‘bout to go down
I wonder who’s flying the plane. My guess is Launchpad because Della would have been cooing over Huey making a new friend and go into embarrassing mom mode. He probably went of on his own adventure or did tourist things like buying collectables. Or maybe Gyro flew them there. Who knows
As many people have said, the art direction and animation for this episode are BEAUTIFUL. I love the pink tint the lighting has in most of the episode
SAILOR MOON CONFIRMED CANON
I bet Mark Beaks is a Sailor Moon fan
I like that the in-universe Sailor Moon is a bunny because Usagi is Japanese for rabbit
I love that going incognito nowadays means you wear a hat, a hoodie, and sunglasses. Boyd looks good in red (though red is my favorite color so I might be biased)
Gyro-takes one step and the fuzz shows up. NOICE
I like detective lady. She has a cool design
Huey and Fenton are awful at acting casual
“Crimes?” Oh my sweet Hubert. I’m pretty sure most if not all of Scrooge’s employees have had run ins w/ The Law
Gyro is like, move I’m gay
“I’m here on a very important...field trip.” ALL THE KIDS NEED A GYRO FIELD TRIP LIKE HOW THE GAANG GOT ZUKO FIELD TRIPS
Lil Bulb said FUCK THE POLICE
I wonder what it actually says
Fenton just watches as the inspector chases Lil Bulb
Seriously though, Fenton does a bunch of silly stuff in the background and this episode warrants a rewatch SOLELY for him
How did Lil Bulb know where to find them? And how did he shake off the inspector? I want to see his little adventure
FOR SCIENCE!
“Blah!” *arm armor attaches* I want this joke to come back
Fenton and Huey INSTANTLY nerd out. I love them
Fenton being a Gyro fanboy is ADORABLE
“AH, DUST IN MY EYE! The dust of GENIUS!” What a dweeb lol
I like that Fenton keeps the arm on for the whole scene
Poor Boyd, he looks so scared
Huey going into protective big brother mode
Doofus continues to be equal parts hilarious and disturbing
Where are their parents? Like, someone should be looking after these kids! ESPECIALLY DOOFUS!
“Do you need a hug?” I SURE FUCKING DO
Mark is such a prick lol
“NO WAY, A ROBOT BOY! DREAMS DO COME TRUE!” YOU DON’T DESERVE THAT DREAM YOU COCKWAFFLE
SOMEONE HUG THIS CHILD! BECAUSE I CANNOT!
“Seems like the little guy’s had it tough.” MY POOR BABY
Lil Bulb gets SO PISSED he blew a fuse
You really shouldn’t have left them alone, Gyro
Why does Fenton automatically jump to superhero for Boyd? I mean the theme of the episode is letting Boyd choose who he wants to be so of course Fenton would have his own idea of what Boyd should be, but why go straight to superhero? Do you want superbros, Fenton?
Huey already realises this might be a bad idea, because he’s more concerned about Boyd as a person rather than Boyd as a machine
“IN RETROSPECT WE PROBABLY SHOULD HAVE USED THE FIRST HOLE” Fenton, you dumbass genius
Dr. Akita’s setup made me laugh. I DIED when he “enhanced” the image
I recognized the character on the chips though I don’t know their name. I’m more of a western animation fan, so many of the references probably flew pass me
BOOP
I also have a key on my laptop that flies off (it’s the u key)
I LOVE BABY GYRO! It’s so cool they went with his og look (minus the red hair) to show him younger
I LOVE THE OUTLAW COUPLE! SO COOL! SO HOT!
Huey is so DONE with Fenton
I love the stupid G pose he does. PLEASE HAVE HIM DO IT AGAIN. PREFERABLY WHEN DW IS NEARBY
Such a polite boy
“My bones are metal!” This line and Boyd’s catchphrase of “Hi, I’m Boyd/2-BO, a definitely real boy!” reminded me of Olaf. The end of the episode gives Boyd even MORE Olaf parallels
Gizmoduck sliding by those boxes was cool
How did Gizmoduck get himself unstuck from that alley?
I loved the double take the female outlaw does
Huey is TRAUMATIZED
I legit thought Boyd was gonna light the oil on fire the first time I watched and I was like that won’t help
“So, what do we do now?” “I...don’t know.” This is why you don’t leave babies alone to fight criminals
Boyd reminded me of Calculester from Monster Prom when he asked the lady to return the money
STOP LEAVING THE CHILDREN ALONE! THEY ARE BABIES! THEY AREN’T EVEN TEENS!
“Why do we always fight when we’re on vacation?” Because this is Ducktales and there is no such thing as a normal vacation
Lil Bulb just kicking his lil feet
The “lab” safety poster made me chuckle. Then I remembered Akita is also a dog and I laughed more
LITTLE BABY GYRO GRADUATING! My guess is his professor/dean/principal influenced him on a personal level and is partially the reason Boyd is a parrot
Lil Helper blueprints. Nice reference to the og series
Has anyone talked about the poster with the cogs and the dogman in old-timey clothes that says GIZMOS on it? I think it’s a Dr. Who reference
IDEALISTIC GYRO AND BOYD IS TOO CUTE!
How did he NOT notice the second hole in the wall?
That is a surplus of handcuffs. Do you think she uses them for...fun times?
“I’m just a guy! With very bruisable skin!”
Poor misunderstood Gyro inventions
Boyd just politely waves at everyone
Huey is WAY calmer than I would be if I got lost in an unfamiliar city
Boyd says FUCK WORK
I love Huey stimming. Really hope Disney will let them confirm in words that Huey is autistic
Is it more common for two kids to wonder around by themselves in Tokyo? Because as an American I find it super stressful and would want to find their parents so they could be safer
THE BUNNY! AND THEN THE KITTIES!
Do cats just take buses on their own in Tokyo?
CHERRY BLOSSOM TIME BITCHES
“And I know what you’re thinking, what about ninjas?” I am ALWAYS wondering about ninjas
I like that Huey finally has a friend who shares the same interests and doesn’t mind info dumps
“Boyd, I don’t think you’re a killer robot. You’re just a kid.” “Aw, that’s the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me.” T_T
I CAN SHOW YOU THE WORLD
I like Boyd’s motief
Akita is us after the quarantine
When he complained about being stiff I was like mood
I like his Green Goblin disc thingy
The other people don’t give a shit about Boyd just FLYING DOWN WITH HIS ROCKET FEET!
Gyro shows up *dramatic wind*
His tablet has a duckie on it. I wounder if they have a Mac/PC thing going on with Waddle and what brand the duckie represents
When the adults argue and Boyd gets all sad and scared I FELT THAT
Huey doing his best to keep Boyd calm and defend him SO PURE
OH GOD HELP THIS POOR CHILD!
HUEY IS A GOOD BOY AND A GOOD FRIEND
“Because of you I’ve become an outcast.” I feel like you did that to yourself
ANIME HAIR POOF
ngl, that shit was TERRIFYING
“You don’t have to do what Akita tells you. Do what I tell you.” So close
“INTERN! FIGHT BETTER!”
Huey must weigh NOTHING if Gyro can pick him up
Akita’s tail looks like a cinnamon roll
Huey always finding that hidden info
The gibberish Gyro says is great
BOYD SAYS IT BECAUSE GYRO TOLD HIM THAT!
THAT HUG!!!
HOW DARE AKITA HURT BABY GYRO AND SWEET BABY BOYD?!
PROTECTIVE PAPA GYRO
NEEEEERRRRRRRD FIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT
“You’ll never invent anything worthwhile.” LIL BULB HAS ENTERED THE FIGHT
Are doggos recyclable?
HUUUUUUUUUUUUUGS
Blue eyes=good robot
ANOTHER HUG
Be Only Yourself, Dude
I like that basically Gyro admitted that he was like Fenton if Fenton hadn’t had support
“That’s not technically how doctorites work, BUT I DON’T CARE!” Do you think Gyro doesn’t have his doctorate or do you think he assumed Fenton already had one?
“The hugging is a ‘just for today’ thing.” YOU CANNOT STOP THE HUG TRAIN!
“Leave. Now.”
Are they gonna go to the plane?
This season has been consistently knocking it out of the park! I’m a SLUT for backstory episodes, so I enjoyed this one a lot. I loved seeing Gyro when he had hope and faith in the world. It SUCKS that Akita took that away from him. Hopefully Gyro will see things slightly less cynical now. Fenton was a dweeb the whole episode and I love him for it. Boyd is SO SWEET AND PRECIOUS and in NO WAY deserved the treatment he got. I have a feeling there is more to Boyd’s creation/Dr.Akita that we’ll get later on. Huey was ADORABLE this episode. It’s really sweet to see him hangout with someone who gets him. Everyone deserves to have at least one friend like that. The fight scene was GORGEOUS! SO FLUID! I really loved this one and I hope we get more Team Science episodes because these characters play really well off each other.

TV Couples-Tropes in Descendants
Ever heard of the TV tropes: Alpha Couple, Beta Couple and Omega Couples?
The alpha couple are basically the narratively undeniable couple. They are the centerpiece, the untouchables, they are the story. They are written in the stars. No matter how you try to spin the canon narrative, you have to venture into AU or future-verse territories to not have them together.
The beta couple are the secondary couple. They are, more often than not, friends or confidants to the alpha couple. They act as a foil to the alpha couple, meaning, they basically highlight the alpha couple’s traits by contrast. They also tend to get their brief time in the spotlight then will get shoved aside for the rest of the story.
The omega couples exist more in the movie musicals genre and are convenient couples. A pair the spares situation, if you will. They are getting together last minute for no other reason other than the fact that we have the finale number coming up. Nothing leads up to it, they’re just there.
In Descendants:
Alpha couple: Mal/Ben
Beta couple(s): Evie/Doug and surprisingly, we get a second in Carlos/Jane
Omega couples: Jay/Audrey (D1), Carlos/Jane (D1, before being promoted to beta in D2), Chad/Lonnie (D1), Chad/Audrey (D3)
Notice how I did not include Jay/Lonnie (D2), Jay/Gil (D3) or Uma/Harry at all? Well, I can’t, none of them canonically got together to be betas, and they had their own mini arcs so they can’t be omegas.
I’d assume that Jay and Lonnie dated briefly and separated for some reason: be it an amicable separation simply due to graduation and going their separate ways (Everybody knows that you don’t bring the girl with you after high school. - Chad Danforth, HSM) or anything else. Like Jay coming to terms with his bisexuality, perhaps, and wanting to take his time before doing anything serious.
Uma/Harry, I wholeheartedly believe, are canon. Just future canon.
Jay/Gil are a wildcard. Their bonding is adorable, whether as friends or more. Or current friends with the possibility of something more, I am just glad I am here for it. And I will forever be giddy inside whenever I remember Disney allowed them to partner-up and dance.
Why such a seemingly irrelevant post?
Because there’s a certain mindset you must be familiar with before you jump into the “they deserved more screen time”, the “why didn’t they officially get together?” and the “F you Disney for doing this to us” chants. It is just how it goes, especially in a movie when you have time constrictions, unlike a TV show where multiple ships can sail simultaneously or in different times. So, what you have to do is, learn to appreciate what’s happening in the background. The fleeting looks, the hand-holding, the reassuring glances and the deleted scenes (chemistry between actors automatically translates to chemistry between the characters). A lot of scenes don’t end up making it into the final product and a lot of takes and angles don’t end up making it as well.
This isn’t me being mad at Disney, it’s just me trying to fill in the gaps to make sense of the story. Like a lot of fanfiction writers do to plot holes, right? But then, for me, it turned into this genuine confusion and curiosity to find out why some characters, like Doug, are so hated while he’s pretty much unexpendable to the story. Or why some people are hell-bent on Mal and Evie being a thing even though we have a proposal, two true love’s kisses and a song about sisterly love and friendship to counter that.
Basically, you need to understand that Evie/Doug and Carlos/Jane are foils to Mal/Ben. The only reason Evie/Doug got the spotlight somewhat in D1 is primarily to develop Evie’s character and then, along with Carlos/Jane, served their purpose only in D2 and D3 which was contradict Mal/Ben’s relationship. And anything meaningful that is meant to happen, happens to Mal and Ben.
Let’s see how:
In D1:
1- While Mal spelled Ben, jump starting their relationship faster than most. Evie and Doug started rather organically, getting to know each other. I’d even argue that Evie and Doug were strictly friends throughout the first movie and part of the six months between D1 and D2.
2- Bal unknowingly started Audrey’s downward spiral, Devie’s relationship didn’t step on any toes.
3- Bal’s started because Mal had a motive (stealing the wand) behind spelling him, unlike what he assumed. Devie was selfless on both parties, he defended her (selfless act) and she became intrigued by the person wasting their breath on a VK.
4- Jock versus nerd. Glaringly obvious.
5- Tomboy with a sharp tongue versus a feminine princess, arguably with social-cue issues.
6- Mal’s turned good for Ben. That’s it, she liked him and wanted to explore the relationship further. Evie’s motive was her exploring herself and all she could be. She found herself with Doug’s help, I’ll give you that, but she grew all on her own. He can’t take credit for that. I can also use Carlos and Jay as foils for Mal, Carlos turned good because he saw the life he could have away from his mother’s abuse and Jay found the error in his father’s teachings.
7- Both Mal and Evie are magical, but only Mal gets to exploit said magic while Evie’s is all but erased from the movies.
In D2:
The difference was more on how they handled problems. Also, Ben being Mal’s motive to be good meant that at the first sign of trouble in paradise, she had an identity crisis and fled.
1- Evie was straight forward with Ben, helping him get to the isle to confront Mal and bring her back. Jay and Carlos lied to Doug, their lies and his insecurities created a problem that wasn’t even there.
2- Ben’s and Doug’s approach to solving their problems was the same: desperate confrontation. Their attitudes and reasons were drastically different. Ben felt guilty for pressuring Mal and belittling the effort she was putting in being his girlfriend. Doug was frantic, fear and insecurity fueling his accusation.
3- Mal initially refused to compromise, basically kicking Ben out. Evie recognized the motive behind Doug’s accusation and shot them down immediately. You know, like the queen she is.
4- Again, Bal saying their “I love you”s while Devie take things slow, enjoying their time. Of course, also Carlos spending six whole months getting to know Jane before he even asked her out.
In D3:
Now D3 was exclusively action-based with very little relationship developments happening. This movie, which is even more Mal-centered and benches Ben altogether, turned almost every character into foils for Mal.
1- Mal and Ben being together long enough (two months shy of a year) to warrant a proposal. Evie and Doug struggle to say their “I love you”s. And Carlos freaks out over Jane’s first birthday since they got together.
2- Uma, Evie and Ben wanting to free the VKs while Mal wants to close the barrier for good based on a threat made for show by her own father. Then she opens the barrier for good to have a relationship with her own father. Nothing selfish about the motives of Uma, Evie and Ben and nothing is selfless about Mal’s motive.
3- Mal being in a happy stage of her relationship while everybody else seems to be struggling. Evie and Doug with their L-word issues, Carlos with Jane’s birthday, Chad still trying to be with Audrey, Uma’s reluctance sending Harry into a chaotic-flirting frenzy, Jay’s supposed recent break-up with Lonnie.
I’m not entirely sure what I had in mind when I started writing this, I guess I was trying to make sense of what we got in the final cut of each movie. It feels like the same frustrations I had watching the High School Musical movies so long ago and being curious as hell about pretty much everyone but Troy and Gabriella. And I am certain I skipped major plot points that would have emphasized everything I’m trying to say, feel free to add to this.

letters to you (pt. 2)
KIM TAEHYUNG (V) X READER Type | Genre: slice of life au | fluff/angst Word Count: 1738 A/N: it’s been hard finding time to update in general but i have a soft spot for this fic! hope you enjoy.
One
After Taehyung's first visit, we managed to keep in touch until somewhere around early springtime. The Kakao messages got increasingly sparse as he got closer to his mysterious debut date and college examinations loomed over my head as I entered my final year of high school. The flutters I had felt were long forgotten in lieu of books and essays.
It wasn't until summer that I was reminded of Taehyung. Auntie Kim came barging into our house bright and early with excited shouts of his debut.
I was already awake, studying my butt off upstairs in the lovely solitude of my room.
"He's releasing the album tomorrow! Tomorrow! My Taehyungie is finally debuting!"
My heart couldn't help but stir a little at his name, as if it was remembering an old habit. I hesitantly reached for my phone, wondering if it would be out of place to send him a congratulatory message.
[07:55AM] To: Taehyung Grats, superstar. It's about time.
To my surprise, the reply came instantly.
[07:55AM] From: Taehyung Dont tell me my mom woke u all up this early to tell u... [07:55AM] From: Taehyung But thats just like her isnt it [07:56AM] From: Taehyung Goddamn shes embarrassing [07:56AM] From: Taehyung But thx ;)
I smiled, heart skipping a little faster, but I decided to play it cool and leave him hanging. It didn't necessarily warrant a response anyway.
It was more than two hours later into my reading when my phone buzzed.
[10:13AM] From: Taehyung Im coming home for a few days next month.
[10:13AM] From: Taehyung Excited to see me? ;)
My stomach suddenly twisted into a knot, butterflies I hadn't felt for months threatening to creep back. Goddamn him and his flirty winking emoticons.
[10:21AM] To: Taehyung Not really
[10:21AM] To: Taehyung But you can come anyway I guess
I wondered if I had waited an ample enough amount of time to not look so desperately eager to answer him. Childish, I know, but I couldn’t help it. I returned to my studies with a renewed energy, suddenly feeling empowered by the thought of having something to look forward to.
Taehyung looked so different that it was hard to believe only two seasons had passed since I last saw him. He was the slightest bit less lanky and his hair was dyed blonde. God, who would have thought he'd look so good with Barbie hair? I stared at him in silence for a few moments before giving him an awkward wave.
"Y/N!"
I could have sworn his voice got deeper, but I didn't have time to mull over the thought really as he scooped me into a big embrace. It knocked the wind out of me -- in a good way. "Nice to see you too, Taehyung," I mumbled into his chest. He smelled like laundry with a hint of musk. It was strange seeing him in shorts and a tee, legs and arms so bare. Had he always been so tan?
It was our mother's ideas to catch up over lunch, and although my books were practically screaming at me, I decided to be a little careless and enjoy some time with my long lost friend. It seemed like Taehyung always brought out the irresponsible side of me.
"So how've you been?" Taehyung asked expectantly.
I had never been a fan of small talk, but there was no other way to really begin the conversation. "Alright, I guess. Studying mostly. Actually, only studying.."
"Ah, so once I left, you were no longer a genius."
I couldn't help but crack a smile.
"No boyfriend?"
"My textbooks are my boyfriends." I sighed, feeling the nervous guilt of ditching my studies gnawing away at me. I was so determined to get top scores, go to one of the top universities in Seoul, and then the world would be my oyster. It was somewhat reckless to be here comfortably chatting the time away with Taehyung.
He smirked. "Wow, what a player. Didn't think you were like that, Y/N."
I rolled my eyes before a chuckle escaped my lips. "Enough about my boring life. I bet yours has been crazy exciting. With your debut, and... shows... and singing?" It was too obvious I didn't know anything about the idol lifestyle.
"Yes. Shows and singing. Hit the nail right on the head," he joked. There was a brief pause before he sighed. "It's actually more like crazy busy than crazy exciting." I watched his still-beautiful fingers run through his dyed locks. "But yeah on top of shows and singing, it's a lot of promotions right now... We're trying to win Rookie of the Year and just get ourselves more out there... Grow our fanbase, you know?"
He sounded so desperate for a moment that I almost reached out to touch his hand in comfort. I didn't know anything really, but I could tell he worked his ass off every day, and he was hoping more than anything that his efforts would pay off in the end. I could sympathize with that -- we were kind of in the same boat when I thought of it like that, and it was comforting.
"How long are you here for this time?" I asked timidly.
"Three days." A loud sigh left his lips. "I know, short as fuck." He was biting his lip nervously, eyes wandering for few seconds before landing on mine. "And I know you're probably busy as hell, but couldn't you make some time for your fave Kpop idol?" A cheeky grin broke out onto his face, and I was instantly reminded of the Taehyung I had grown so comfortable with last winter. And just like that, it was so easy to fall back into his trap.
My books were neglected as I spent the next few days with Taehyung. It was like we had fallen back into our old habits -- going to the cafe in the morning, watching I Hear Your Voice or some other drama in the afternoon, and driving to the mountains or downtown in the evening.
He still took his coffee much too sweet. And with the way he comfortably settled in next to me besides the couch, shoulder to shoulder, it was like nothing had changed. By the second day, it felt like he had never even left.
I loved the drives the most. The skies were clear and starry, and with the wind blowing through my hair, going anywhere felt like an adventure. The scenic view of town from the cliffs was different now that it was summer. It was so green and lush, as if the colors had all become more vibrant now that he was back. The days were longer and warm, so we spent more time outside. He treated me to ice cream every day because he was "now a working man," as he called it.
"I missed this," he announced with a sigh, laying back into the grass.
"Hm?" I absentmindedly continued to poke around for the cake bits in my ice cream.
"Just chilling around like this. With you."
The last two words were said so nonchalantly, but they resonated so deeply in my silly heart that my entire body tensed up.
"You're leaving tomorrow, Taehyung." Was I saying it to remind him... or myself?
He rose from his position and gestured towards the car. "It's good though. You need to study anyway." He grinned. "Genius or nerd, whichever you are, I'm sure you still need to get back to your books. The college exams are in a few months, aren't they?"
I hadn’t known, but he had overheard my mother yelling at me the previous morning for spending all day with him. It hadn't stopped him from distracting me all day today though.
I nodded, swallowing nervously. I didn't want to think about my looming tests and their gravity on my future outlook. With Taehyung, I could enjoy a reprieve from it all. I didn't want him to leave.
"You'll be fine," he murmured softly, hand messily patting my head. "We'll both work hard, and we'll see each other again before we know it."
My eyes were hopeful as I looked up at his golden face. "When's the next time you'll be back?" He wasn't even gone yet, and I was already looking forward to our reunion.
"Hopefully the holidays." His mumbles were laced with uncertainty, and he tried to give me a reassuring smile. "I'll try to keep in touch, Y/N. Much more than last time."
The way he wrapped his arm around my shoulder made me almost believe he would keep his promise.
He didn't. It was only a few days after he returned to Seoul that the texts stopped coming. I wasn't surprised. From what I heard from Auntie Kim, his group was getting ready for their comeback, and I wasn't in a position to chase for replies either. I was frantically catching up with what I missed, but it didn't help that I'd occasionally get distracted by the thoughts of him already forgetting me.
The leaves turned from green to yellow, oranges, and reds before turning brown and withering off. My birthday passed uneventfully with a casual text from Taehyung. I traded in loose shorts for leggings and sweats, and pulled out my winter gear from the back of the closet. Other than my clothes, however, nothing changed much. Day in and day out, my nose was buried in textbooks, my hand deathly sore from writing notes.
It felt unreal when the examination day finally came. I woke up like any other day, but instead of heading to the school library with books in tow, I headed there with only a few last minute notes and a pencil case. Basically every other kid in my year was walking down the streets with me, hearts nervously thumping as we all knew the test we faced would determine our future.
My phone vibrated in my pocket, and I was reminded to turn it off. But at the sight of the familiar name that hadn't graced my screen in months, my heart fluttered.
[08:16AM] From: Taehyung Good luck genius
It was nice to think that he was somewhere in the capital city thinking about me this early in the morning.
With a happy heart, I powered down my mobile device. Perhaps this exam would be my ticket to Seoul, a little closer to Taehyung.

Lemme tell you how I got into Skyrim. This shit is fucking bad, very very high up on the dumbass scale, so here we go.
Some backstory, so I have an excuse to why I’m so fucking bad at this
When I was growing up, I surrounded myself in Nintendo. My step brother was also a Nintendo nerd, so we didn’t stray all that much. The only time I ever heard Skyrim get referenced was by the douchebag Homophobic Dude Bros™ that were in art class just to try and get an easy grade, so let’s just say it left a sour taste in my mouth.
I moved to Nevada when I was 18 and all they had was a broken Xbox 360. My friend Chris thought I’d like Fable, and really, really did, because I literally finished it in just a few weeks. But when I tried to replay it (evil this time) I couldn’t even complete the first important task because I felt bad for being a horrible person. (the first Big choice you have is to execute some dude you’re supposed to be in love with or a group of protesters that are trying to feed their families).
So he goes, “look. Just try Skyrim.”
And I go, “no.” yaknow, like an idiot.
He wouldn’t believe me when I said I wanted nothing to do with it, because I did admit I had never, ever played it before. So he plays it in front of me for a good week or so. And as per his grand plan, I start to get curious.
And also fucking infuriated.
This dude snuck everywhere. He only used light armor. He never got close enough to an enemy to force him to draw a dagger. He wouldn’t use horses. His play style was his, no judgement—but yakno. it drove me up the fucking wall. If I had to sit through two more hours of this man slowly crab walking his ass up the seven thousand steps because he refused to walk like a normal person lest his sneak skill maybe possibility suffer by one point, I think i’d go full feral.
So I said fuck it, grabbed the controller, and started a new game.
I create a Bosmer character who looks like she could punch me and I’d apologise for my face being in the way of her fist, because i am gay. I then spend 3 thousand years on babyname websites, trying my darndest to find a name that fit her face.
Dumbass Mistake number one: I press A to input the first letter.
“wait. This isn’t a GameCube controller. Fuck.”
I actually press B.
As in. Save and exit.
Do you want to name your character Prisoner?
“what? No!”
I press A, thinking it’s B.
My name is now Prisoner.
Now I’m pissed, but I’ve spent way too much time in the character creation screen to warrant a re-do. I am stuck with a Woodelf named Prisoner.
This becomes part of her lore later on. She was raised in a prison and only ever referred to as “prisoner” when she was little, so she took it as her name but dropped the e for an o when she was learning to write because she was literally a baby who couldn't spell: Prisonor.
Dumbass Mistake #2: I’m so used to autocameras that follow the player and find decent enough angles without me having to jam the stick back and forth that I can not for the life of me fucking Look At Shit Correctly.
I almost died. Do you know how bad you have to be to nearly die in the opening tutorial? It was as if i’d decided to play with my fucking elbows instead of my hands, I was flailing about like a lunatic. All while Alduin moved around and threw rocks at people, too, and my camera work was so bad it looked as if Bethesda had actually made a good scene to convey the horror and terror of the situation. Fuck you Bethesda
Dumbass Mistake #3: heavy armor. This was, and will continue to be, my downfall. Kiss half my fucking carry weight capacity goodbye because this Bad Bitch Needs Those High Armor Stats.
Oh, what? You need to sneak into a cave and steal some shit? Well you now have too options, you absolute Unit. You heavy as fuck bone armor thicc thot.
It’s either: a) sneak as is and get detected the moment your big toe even twitches upwards or b) go streaking for a few in-game hours and stuff all that contraband.... Somewhere. Don’t really know where it goes, to be honest.
Naked but stealthy. Stealthy.... But naked.
Obviously I go streaking quite a lot at first.
As I got bigger and heavier armor and weapons, I started plowing through dungeons by sheer force alone. Mind you, Prisonor is small, angry, and has a huge axe, so it just works®
Mistake #4: no Stamina. We trudge slowly to shadowmere like a woman with infinite health and literally nothing else. I think I maybe slipped her one or two levels into Stamina, and absolutely nothing in Magicka. Actually,
Dumb of Ass Mistake number 5: no god damned Magicka. It became such a problem that i would tell Chris to remind me next time when I was leveling up, to possibly add to poor widdle Magicka pwease? And I never did, since we’d both forget, and hit “health” with a smug little smile in my face. Try and kill me, douches. I have 300 health and counting. Wait. Wait hold on I fucking forgot—
I gave her the first novice hood you find in the game, dusted off my hands as if i’d just solved all of humanity’s inherent problems, and walked. Away.
It’s now part of her backstory. She can’t grow her Magicka because her mother was a skooma addict when she was pregnant, and it fucked with a few things when she was in the womb. can you tell that her backstory is a little fucked up? Well hold on, don't have much faith in me yet, because i killed her adopted dad too lmao #hewasexecutedforpoliticalgainbecausehewasalargethreattothescoomatradeinhammerfell
Mistake #6: hello my name is Prisonor and I would like to tell you about the future of the Companions, do you have a spare minute?
Chris pointed at Whiterun as I sprinted, naked (for speed, because I am already trudging the path of Heavy Armor even at that point) down the hill from Riverwood and said, “you can become a werewolf over there.”
Oh? I can become a tormented, feral, roaring beast over there yonder? Well sign me the fuck up you funky little bitch.
So I completed the whole questline all the way through with no stops. I didn’t like the fact that nearly everyone was a Nord, but it had less context for me at the time so it rubbed me wrong less than I does now.
But hold on. You get something at the end of that quest, right? A huge axe with a lot of history I didn’t really delve that deep into at the time?
Yes. Yes I did build a heavy armor, no-archery, werewolf, Wuuthrad-wielding Bosmer named Prisonor my first playthrough.
She was the ultimate rebel without me even trying to be. To the point where her axe is more deadly to herself than to her own wife.
Dumb #7: I threw the Ring of Hircine in a lake thinking it was useless.
That’s it. I’m still mad about it.
In conclusion,
The hard drive in the 360 was shit, so the load times were awful. Sunk 80$ on a new hard drive and had to sit on the floor waiting for the saves to transfer for 3 hours.
Good game solid 7,000steps out of 5

Eight People I’d Like to Know Better!
I can count on less than five fingers how often this happens. Thanks, @beelzebugz!
1. Name / Alias
Northwestern (online alias). The nicknames variate with my screen name, and I answer to any, but my universal ones are NW and Westie.
2. Birthday
The Last Days of May (not saying which one publicly, and BOC gave me all the more reason!)
3. Zodiac Sign
Gemini. Though, I was born almost month premature, and should have been a Cancer, and people have said I show the Gemini/Cancer cusp emotional tendencies (really don't follow this to confirm for myself -I prefer MBTI)
4. Height
5′5″
5. Hobbies
Writing, researching bands, drawing, playing piano and viola, learning guitar over the last few months, figuring out songs by ear and analyzing the music theory to it (nerd!), being unofficial vet nurse to an elderly cat...
6. Favorite Colors
Teal and blue as stand-alones; red, black, silver, and purple in combination.
7. Favorite Books
Catch-22 grew on me. The first ten chapters were hard to get into because everyone was so crazy that it annoyed me, but by the end of the fifteenth, I felt for the main character so bad it hurt (I had to read it during a hell period at school). The second half made me laugh one chapter and cry the next -especially the first time when I was emotionally shot -and I just really like it. The Things They Carried was also good. There's something about war stories -realistic or fictional -that I really click with, analyzing each side and seeing where each comes from.
8. Last Song I Listened To
“Stillness of the Night” REO Speedwagon (it’s been stuck in my head since September ‘18!)
9. Last Film I Watched
Star Wars: A New Hope
10. Inspiration or Muse
The Hillstrand bros used to say things that would REALLY inspire me, and when I am actively working on my original works, my original characters kind of gather in my head and carry a cycle where once I get them going, they'll keep me going. Any musician can be a big muse to me too. The guys in Dokken and REO Speedwagon are especially strong with me lately. Jeff Pilson and Bruce Hall (both bassists) are some of the kindest human beings who always get me smiling, and watching interview clips of Neal Doughty gets the more snarky side of my mind going. I can't help but love him!
11. Dream Job
Realistic: Vet or Vet Tech, and perhaps a future author of another veterinary story series. I love animals, enjoy helping people/doing a bit of crisis management, and if I can use my writing hobby with it, all the better.
Unrealistic: Music historian. I already research so many bands that this would come as second nature rather than work (though, the main stuff that most would want to know is already documented, if biased sometimes when dealing with band drama). Because I’d eventually get depressed only researching and writing all the time, I’d have a day job as a vet nurse, or invent a business as a ‘pet ambulance driver’, for owners who are in rural areas outside cities and unable to drive to vets far away. Or for people who can't afford to take off work during the day, so they don't have to pay through the nose to go to an emergency clinic after-hours over something that needs attention but doesn't warrant that level of care or expense.
12. Meaning Behind Your URL
“northwest of insanity” -there are many reasons I’ve been jokingly asked if I’m a little bit insane, to which I say I’m level headed enough to push through a lot, but I don't deny lacking some degree of sanity. So I’m functioning slightly above and aside from full blown insanity -not entirely there, but close! And it incorporates a variation on Northwestern, which originated from when some of my cousins (big Italian family -there are lots) and I were big into Deadliest Catch (when it was still a good show). We had play nicknames after the boats, Kodiak, Time Bandit, Maverick, and Northwestern. “Northwestern” also later became the name of a fictional character in an original story series I wrote for one of my little cousins when he was four, and that character definitely had a major influence on who I am as a person now.
I tag...
I’m not sure -Any of my watchers and mutuals who want to do this and haven't already!
...okay @ray-rabies, @internationalfeel, @onstrangehighways -I don't think you guys have spoken against being tagged before, but again, only if you want to do it!

CHAPTER FOURTEEN
salt-laced and arched / dorianne laux, this close
The days, then weeks go on without Olivier.
Easier than it should be, Riza adjusts to another walking out the door. Every once in a while, a sad wave of nostalgia washes over her when she sees the significantly vacant living room or looking at the bare wall that once held frames and chic paintings. Even if some called her icy and dull, she had impeccable taste and Riza misses the colors on the wall. These small moments creep up on Riza when she least expects them, during the most inane moments of the day, and it's hard not to feel the loss and how it still stings like an accidental pinch to sensitive skin.
Perhaps she judged Olivier incorrectly, a voice in her head tells her snidely. Perhaps you chose wrongly, a darker, but smaller voice said. Riza can’t fault her former flatmate’s inability to understand her affair, no matter how much or how little it stings. It burns in the hollow parts where their friendship used to be, knowing that this man has a better and more intimate understanding of her as a person than Olivier would ever be capable of or want to be capable of. The sentiment is selfish and she knows this. In other situations, she respected Olivier’s ability to remain steadfast in her convictions.
All this comes to mind on a Friday evening, a quiet one when they are rarely so for Riza. Earlier she relished at the fact that she could take advantage of the quietude to get lost in her annotated-to-death anthology of Pablo Neruda’s works; to be comfortably situated in her own bed and just take in the evoking prose, and catch up on her laundry she was woefully behind on. The space would do her some good, she reasoned. A lot had happened in the last few weeks and a bit of alone time with her favourite poets and a Greed pizza from Hell’s would do her some good. It’s been a while since she’s had a moment with just her and a book and four walls.
Riza looks at the time, the walls, the fading pages, and realizes … why did she ever come to miss this. When did she grow to enjoy company?
Rebecca had come and gone after her classes, commenting on how rare it was to see her there on a Friday. Riza tried to explain but her friend looked like she was short for time, making a racket with her closet and in the bathroom. Riza could hardly catch where she was going, she’d hardly made mention of it as she was hurrying out of the apartment and then those words were cut off by the slamming on the door. Not that she expected it, but the lack of invitation probably meant that it was a date or something of the sort. That was hours ago and Riza finds herself a little disappointed, but mostly strange, that her phone isn’t blowing up with a play-by-play of the date’s shortcomings or successes. The commentary is a specialty of Rebecca’s humor.
Her friend was right: ordinarily, she wouldn’t be here. Over the course of a few months, Riza has slipped into a routine that she is loathe to have issue with. A bus would take her on a route that went past his neighbourhood, following her afternoon biochem class. Sometimes, she’d make a detour to the supermarket nearby to pick up a few things if a mood struck for something in particular, but more often than not she was content with takeout. It was a nicer environment than the library - she could spread out all the work she needed to do on the coffee table in his lounge and sprawl herself along his couch. The hot chocolate powder that had mysteriously arrived in the pantry one day wasn’t amiss either.
This time, however, her excuse was moot and she couldn’t expect a phone call or exchange of texts to change that either, because tonight he was travelling to Central for a conference where chemistry nerds were converging to relay to each other the latest findings. Roy was not as excited as she expected. In fact, he looked particularly disgruntled by the way he told her about it two weeks ago. He whined how not even professors were spared from homework, or ‘paperwork’ as he referred to it.
Eventually, she pushes away the distractions and enthralled for the millionth by The Heights of Macchu Picchu when her phone lights up and pings on her desk. Mindful of the book in her hands that is practically falling apart, she sets it down carefully, before stretching out to pull on the charging cable. The phone falls into her hand with practiced ease, and Riza can’t help the smile that grows on her face as she sees the name - nickname - emblazoned on her lockscreen.
Spanish Inquisition, 7:02pm I had a very interesting visitor today Spanish Inquisition, 7:02pm You didn’t think to warn me?
A chill runs down her spine. She’s trying her best not to jump to conclusions but a familiar sanctimonious smirk appears in her mind’s eye. She wouldn’t...would she? Calmly, she responds:
Avecilla, 7:02pm I would if I knew who to warn you about.
Spanish Inquisition, 7:03pm So you didn’t know. Hmm. Spanish Inquisition, 7:03pm Your other flatmate. Not blonde. Bushy black hair. Very opinionated. Spanish Inquisition, 7:03pm And loud
Spanish Inquisition, 7:04pm Came into my office hours in middle of a meeting with another student.
Her relief is short-lived as the reality settles in. Palm meets skin and she smacks her forehead. She loves Rebecca - honestly, truly - but the girl lived in the moment and rarely considered the consequences of her actions in the aftermath. She can’t discern his reaction though, not through text alone. Her thumb hovers over the icon at the top of the app. Surely he would’ve called her if he felt the conversation warranted it.
Avecilla, 7:04pm becca? Avecilla, 7:04pm oh fuck
Spanish Inquisition, 7:07pm ah so, becca’s her name! I wish she would have told me that
Spanish Inquisition, 7:07pm She said a lot about a lot of things, but not her name Spanish Inquisition, 7:08pm tbh I wasn’t really given a chance to say anything Spanish Inquisition, 7:08pm Do you know how weird it is to be lectured in my own office
Riza mutters a string of curses under her breath.
She switches messaging windows to Rebecca’s and stares at the blank chat box wondering which side to approach this from. Her fingers rest on the bridge of her nose imagining the scene of a riled up Rebecca busting in through that office door, telling the unsuspecting student to scram and then potentially ripping Roy a new one about who-knows-what with the signature hands-on-hips stance. It’s frustrating, it should be incredibly frustrating. What she had said, the manner in which she barged in, how it’s interpreted - all of it could be her demise but a chuckle bubbles up because... Classic Rebecca.
Unaware that the screen had dimmed, she sees it light up again with a call this time. “Hello?”
“You left me on read?” The other voice on the line greets her with hints of playful tones under that indignant choice of words. He continues smoothly, “Are you starting to think you’re the exception in all of this, avecilla?”
She snorts, smiling as she sat up. As far as she can tell he’s not irritated. “No exception to the embarrassment knowing Rebecca did that. If I had known that was even remotely crossing her mind - well, I would have stopped her.”
“Something tells me even if you did know, there’s no much that you could have done from stopping a force of nature like that.” Despite the noise of what she assumes is Central all around him, she can hear the tired smile on him. “I think you’re very lucky to have such a loyal friend who has terrifyingly specific medical knowledge on how to best remove a penis.”
“She didn’t...” Riza groans and leans back against her pillows, sliding the dog-eared anthology back from the edge of the bed before she covers her face.
“She did. I was perplexed for most of it, blinking at her as she paced in front of my desk.” Riza let the words sink down with her mortification and then she’s frozen when he says, “Does she do this with all your boyfriends?”
She isn’t sure why it tenses her; maybe its because it's finally given a name, even if it’s only a label, and an unsure, timid smile crosses her face. “Consider yourself special for getting the Rebecca treatment.”
“I consider myself lucky for other reasons, Riza.”
Her demeanor changes with the teasing lilt in his words. A half-smile begins to spring up over her lips, thankful he’s understanding - in whatever capacity - of this. “Care to share with the class?” She says coyly.
“Yes, that no one else heard. Or made any comment about it.” He says sternly and she sinks back into her pillows.
“I don’t know why she thought storming into your office would be a good idea.”
“Well it certainly worked out well enough for you, didn’t it?” Even though he’s making fun of her, she bites her lip at the memory, and the way his voice has dipped now, sultry and inflected with the accent that he was well aware that made her weak in the knees. He’s blatantly flirting with her.
Riza scoffs. “I believe our aims were a little different if we are going to be making comparisons.”
“Ah, so you did come with a goal in mind then.”
“Yes, sir. I-”
There are stifled chuckles on the other end. He is one of the few people clever enough to really get under her skin, get her riled up.
“If I recall correct, you admitted that I was baited into your office because of your stunt.”
“Mmm, did I now?” he asks, low and throaty.
At least the whiplash from the back and forth keeps her on her toes; she looks at them wiggling even now as she talks to him. “Mhm, I was there.”
He chuckles lightly and she hears someone greet him faintly in the background. “Let me call you back so I can get into this hotel room.”
“Oh, of course.”
They don’t share many phone calls but even from the first day, she’s known his voice was pleasant. Especially when he wants it to be. His laugh was warm down the line, and inexplicably she finds herself missing him, despite talking to him this morning however briefly.
The phone rings and she greets him with a standard “hello.” When no sound comes from the other end, she checks the screen to make sure the line is connected.
“So…” he starts and it sounds like he plops on a bed. “What are you wearing?”
She blinks. “What?”
He enunciates each word. “What - are - you - wearing?”
She sinks down the length of her headboard. “You’re not serious.”
He tuts. “You didn’t answer my question.”
“Clothing.”
“You’re no fun, Miss Hawkeye.”
“Maybe it’s because I’d rather have you here to show me what you want.”
“So would I.” There’s a wistful edge to his voice. “Do you have other plans? I was under the impression that you had a date with some laundry and pizza.”
“I had a date,” she emphasises. “Besides... I don’t think I’d be too good at it.”
“Trial and error, right? There’s no pressure to do anything you’re not comfortable with and we can always stop whenever you’d like.”
Likewise, she gets up and locks the door to her bedroom even though she knows Rebecca won’t be home for a while yet - certainly not after that stunt. “What a gentleman.”
“I like to think so.” She can hear his smile. “So...what are you wearing?”
Riza smiles in turn, feeling foolish. It’s such a ridiculous question on top of a ridiculous act. Tightening her grip on her phone, she figures telling him the truth of her rather vanilla pyjamas would probably detract from the mood of… whatever this was. She knows enough about “phone sex” - even in her mind it leaves a weird, tingly feeling - to at least humor him. She sighs into the phone, “It’s warm tonight, so I decided to wear something comfy to bed. Something so I can wiggle under the covers without feeling ...constricted.”
“Shorts?” The voice at the other end sounds surprised and she clearly sees him, in her mind’s eye, leaning in closer with interest and probably a smirk.
Riza bites her lower lip. “Less.”
“Oh.” He sounds delighted. “Well, if you’re going to have me guess what Riza Hawkeye wears on her days off… the top to her pajamas and her small clothes.”
He knows her too well. With little movement, she slides her underwear down her legs, letting them fall to the floor. She laughs, a little nervously. “Less.”
“Aren’t you naughty tonight?”
“I’ve been asked to,” Riza teases and shifts against her pillows. “Now, tell me something.”
“Yes?”
She’s unfamiliar with this certain kind of ...adventure. Nonetheless, she’s still willing to try. “How... excited are you?”
“Mhm. Let’s see.” She faintly hears fabric shifting, zippers unzipping, and if she wasn’t listening so intently, she would have missed the light groan. “Very.”
She licks her lips, imagining him sitting on the edge of her bed. Her legs cross; as a pleasant surprise, her arousal settles hotly in between them. “Tell me why.”
“You. Your legs. Spread and losing myself between them. Your body on mine.”
“You’re worse than me, sir.” There is a throbbing pulse right at her core in rhythm with the hard thrumming in her chest. It feels warm and slick without having to touch herself, though the temptation to is becoming harder to ignore. “What would you do?” she asks, cradling the phone between her shoulder and her ear. “If you had me there.”
His laugh is delicious - she closes her eyes as a shiver runs over her bare skin. “Enough about me, avecilla. How eager would you be if you were here?”
“I’m hardly-”
“Try.”
Leaning back, Riza tries to imagine her own fantasies. “If I was there-” she hears a throaty chuckle, “- I’d get on my knees, relieve you of those pesky trousers...” A daring hand slips in between her legs and her fingers are glistening when she lifts them back up to the light.
“And?” His voice has become husky, rumbling through his throat.
“I’d take you into my mouth.” She answers automatically, distracted from her slow stroke, playing with herself. It’s true - previously, with other fumblings, she had done her part to make her partner feel good - but with him she is surprised to find herself enjoying the act so thoroughly. Maybe it’s a power thing. The image of him watching her take him into her mouth with hooded eyes and a slack jaw is something she holds close to her heart. She does that to him.
Nobody else.
It takes him a moment to respond and when he does, his words are marked with a smidgen of strain. “Fast or slow?”
She doesn’t realize until this moment that her eyes have fallen shut, her head thrown back. “Slow at first, tasting you, feeling how hard you are in my mouth and growing harder with my tongue.”
“At first?” Roy asks curiously. “You’d want me to make you go faster, wouldn’t you?”
“Yes, I do-” she admits, gasping with the building pleasure of using two fingers to stimulate her clit.
“Grabbing you by your hair to so you can feel me go deeper.”
“Yes…” His fingers coiled in her hair, his cock around her lips getting wetter each time she retook him in her mouth, the aching between her thighs increasing with every second -
“Yes, what?”
“Yes, sir.” Riza thought a laugh would leave her, instead she moans into the phone, feeling a warmth flush her skin pink. She’s wet enough to hear it, rubbing herself. She settles on the bed properly now, lying flat with the phone tucked between her shoulder and her ear. Gasping lightly, Riza slides a finger, then two inside herself as her other hand grabs her own breast, ghosting over the tip of her sensitive nipple.
“And where would you like me to fuck you?”
“Take me however you’d like me.” The truth is she can’t really think. She’s lost in her own fantasies. Against the wall with her legs over his hip; from behind where he could dig his nails into her as they picked up the pace; on top of him where she could feel him reaching depths that had her voice filling the room - it didn’t matter. There is an aching in her that her fingers cannot fulfill. He was too far away. She wants him here, with her and her shitty second-hand bed and the evidence is soaking her digits to her knuckles.
His groan reverberates through the phone lines and into her ear and she can almost feel the hot breath in her ear and his familiar scent.
She breathes in as hoping his phantom scent would materialize just for her. She begins, “I’m y-”
Her bedroom door opens.
“Rebecca!” she screeches. Mortified, she drops her phone, urging her roommate to get out. She can only imagine his confused expression as she swears black and blue and Rebecca is cackling madly in the background. She covers herself with her blanket, chasing her out and slams the door behind her. There’s a chuckle wedged in between the “I’m sorry!” Rebecca shouts from the other side of the door.
Her phone is still lit up, the call remaining in progress as she approaches her bed. “Roy..?” she breathes after the entire debacle. Paper crinkles beneath her feet. She quickly pulls them back and hisses under her breath.
“I’m here,” he responds after a moment and he sounds a little spent. “Did we have unfortunate timing again?”
She sighs as she kneels down, her blanket pooling around her feet. “What’s the matter?” he presses.
Riza groans as she sees the scattered pages across her room. The hardcover of her anthology lies face down, open. The spine of it must’ve hit the floor first. She crouches though her legs shake and picks up the annotated papers. “It’s nothing.”
Other than the shifting of someone on a bed, there’s silence on the other end until he speaks again. “It doesn’t sound like nothing, avecilla.”
She nestles the phone in between her ear and shoulder as she collects the remnants of the book in earnest. “A book I was reading before you called fell off the bed and the pages came apart.”
“You certainly haven’t shown me that kind of vigor to make a book fall apart.”
She huffs into the phone, hoping her flattened brow expression would be received telepathically. “It was old.”
“I’m not that old.”
“The book.”
She can hear him stifle a chuckle, but he fails by snickering anyway. It makes her smile too. “Now I see. In any case, I’m sorry to hear that. Which book was it?”
Riza flips the cover as if she didn’t already know. “An old poetry book I bought when I was younger. Neruda.”
“Ah, that’s unfortunate.”
“What’s unfortunate is that I was… almost getting into it,” she admits, slipping on a different pair of underwear.
She can just imagine the disappointed expression on his face. “That’s even more unfortunate. But there’ll be other times if the moment is ruined.”
Again, she smiles because of his understanding, despite her embarrassment and she’ll admit to herself that she’s little forlorn over missing the opportunity to hear him reach an orgasm right in her ear. “I think for right now it is. I need to clean up this mess and then there’s my other date that needs tending to.”
“Laundry isn’t that necessary, is it? By all means, walk around naked if you’d like. I certainly won’t protest.”
Riza grins, holding back the laughter. She manages to sternly volley back, “One of us has to remain civilized.”
He scoffs. “I’m hurt.”
“Somehow I doubt that.”
“Call me back once you’re done?”
Genuinely and warmly this time, she smiles. “If you behave.”
“So no dick pics?”
It takes a lot of willpower not to snort audibly. “Surprise me, sir.”
With his return, she realizes only a few weeks remain before classes end officially. Riza’s always taken initiative for her assignments with diligence, but there’s always the influx of assignments at the end of the term, projects to wrap up, or reports to finalize. Still aiding him when she can in the evenings, her free time becomes increasingly limited.
There’s a new, long list of journals and books that Roy requires for his research that they read and eventually determine the value of this information. On top of this already tedious work, she offers to help grade the essays from the two 100-level courses he teaches in addition to her Chemical Literature class.
It’s boring, menial and uninspiring work: the amount of grammatical, spelling and formatting errors has Riza throwing her pencil away from her in frustration on more than one occasion. The content of said work is of an even lesser quality. It aggravates Riza when it’s obvious to her that some these students don’t give a flying fuck about their education. Or they do, but they have a shit way of showing it.
Some dark part of her forms from this trial and she takes joy tearing into the worst of the essays via text messages to him. In turn, he responds with the excuses and the pleas for extensions or redacted frantic emails that come in once students factor in the weight of the participation grade.

Spanish Inquisition, 11:59 pm Most will get a B or similar Spanish Inquisition, 11:59 pm Not enough for them to storm to the dean and complain i’m unfair, but maybe enough to encourage them to maybe try next time
The weeks fly by because of this and she can only think of one time in the last few weeks where they’ve actually managed to do more than just kiss. Riza isn’t one to keep tallies, but it was after a late night of simultaneously grading, reading and working on her final assignments. She was tired. She knew he was too, and while she could only blame herself for suggesting it, it didn’t make her any less frustrated when he drifts to sleep with his dick in her mouth. Rebecca harbored no sympathy for her either. She merely texts ‘HAHAHAHAHAHAHHA’ and then sends far too many tongue-in-cheek gifs implying Riza was “thirsty.”
Even if she was, Riza muted her best friend and finished herself off, but not before almost succumbing to sleep once or twice.
Every time after that, when they managed to have more coffee or sleep in, they were rudely interrupted in some other way. As if it were sacrilege he had taken that one time for granted, he jested once, and it soon became laughable what the universe kept throwing at them.
The workload was understandable, forgivable, and inevitably out of their control. Then, it was constant miscalculations of how little time they had: either she had a class or he had one to teach or office hours, or I’m about to crash and we both know how the last time worked out. It was driving her up the walls - and not in the ways she’d preferred.
They reach a point of recklessness. They take advantage of his empty office with a locked door on the final days after class. He cancels his office hours that morning after her assurances that her assignments were up to par and she could afford the distraction. Riza finds herself pleasantly nestled between euphoria and giddiness from the frantic way they paw at each other’s clothes. Or it’s the way she sat on the edge of his desk and the cool air tickled in the moist heat in between her legs. Or the little tinge of pride from cancelling his office hours just for her. Or perhaps a combination of it all. Irresponsible, to be sure, but she’d be lying if she said she wasn’t flattered how much he desired her, as if it were anything to question. She thinks, in foolish desperation, that the odds are in their favour this time.
She’s wet and ready from his fingers playing with her as they kiss, bringing him closer with her legs as her soft moans are muffled by his lips. Her hands reach for the buckle of his belt and she chuckles lightly when she detours further south to palm the erection under the cloth of his pants. Let’s free it, she thought then and refocused on the buckle, because she is fed up with all this teasing and none of the fingering. He’s given her a light orgasm already - the kind that leaves her wanting, that she only needed to bite down on her lip for - but it’s made her insatiable now. There’s just something so good about having him in her, and as much as she loves his fingers and dexterity, they cannot mimic the stretch and feeling of fullness he alone provides. “I want you,” she murmurs under his lips, drunk from her lust, as she unbuckled the belt with practiced fingers.
Loud and obnoxious, an alarm suddenly blares. Sound fills the room and it’s like a bucket of cold water over her; it takes them both a moment to recenter themselves back to earth. Her fingers uncurl from his pants and inwardly she mourns the loss of contact. The urge to keep going is strong; after all, when are fire alarms set off for a legitimate reasons anyway? It’s an irrational thought and Riza can hardly hear anything else. They fix themselves up hastily and exit the building; everybody they pass seemingly none the wiser. She lets herself drift away from him - a few metres and several people between them when they reach the evacuation point, reminding herself that there are other people here and this close to the end of classes is no excuse to relax her standards. She’s just...frustrated. A voice that sounds a lot like Rebecca’s teases that she’s actually just horny.
If she’s honest, she hates the shame that trickles down her spine at this unadulterated want. In a different time, with a less conservative upbringing to influence her choices, she wouldn’t find this shame and guilt currently she’s currently wrestling with. She would be more like Rebecca or even Olivier where it’s not on her radar, coming and going as she pleases. But if her circumstances were different, she probably wouldn’t even be here, studying for a Bachelor of Science as a means to connect with her absentee father.
Riza miraculously catches his eyes as the crowd slowly shuffles further back on the field as more people spill out of the Joseph Hunter Science Building. He mouths something to her, but her lipreading is terrible and she shrugs her shoulders, lifting up her phone to their field of vision.
Spanish Inquisition, 10:23am 10 minutes leaves enough time to return the favor of the other night.
The fire alarm had killed most of their time before her next class, but she forgoes punctuality in favor of four minutes of feeling his hair in between her fingers while his lips kiss in between her legs. In the end, her tardiness was excused.
Finally - finally, she thinks they’ve managed a miracle. Her final assignments are as ready as they’ll ever be, waiting for one final read-over before submission, and his last block of essays have been graded and handed back to their respective classes. Draped over him in the same chair in his apartment study where they first fucked, she’s allowing herself to celebrate as she cups his jaw with her hands, her tongue sliding against his pleasantly.
He hardens underneath her and she’s none too shy about unbuttoning his shirt as he has done for her. Pushed down to her elbows, the shirt is rid of her and it’s a painful few seconds when she pulls away to be free of it properly. He looks sinfully decadent beneath her, a lazy smirk growing on his face as one hand deliberately hooks a finger under her bra strap, tugging it down. Her lingerie choices have been adventurous in recent weeks - the pastel blue lacy number she’s currently wearing is definitely not designed for any exercise more taxing than walking, and judging by the way his Adam’s apple bobs in his throat, Riza knows with certainty that she’s found a keeper.
His fingers brush over her nipples, and she briefly shuts her eyes as he pinches before pulling the fabric down and draws her close, tongue soothing the puckered skin. Her hands curl into his hair, scratching at his scalp and Riza’s uncaring of the breathy moans leaving her - this is divine, and the wait has certainly been worth it.
Roy’s hands drift down and slide under her skirt, fingers gliding over the sensitive skin on the inside of her thighs, leaving tingling sensations in its wake. He is only mere inches from her arousal and a great deal of willpower goes into preventing herself from pushing his hand forward.
He takes off his glasses and she sets them behind her on the large desk. Her hands go through his hair as he cups her breast and brings her other nipple into his mouth, using his tongue to tease the tip and even nip at it gently with his teeth. His other hand clutches at her ass to bring her closer as if the distance they have was remotely unbearable. Riza gasps into his hair, grinding her hips over his lap, and his scent is mixed with sweat. It’s a dangerous, addicting blend, and she shudders in his lap as his fingers stroke across her bare skin. He releases her nipple slowly from between his teeth before shifting back to her other one and she remembers a joke he said about her breasts deserving equal treatment.
And then, in the middle of this achingly wonderful treatment - his ringtone goes off.
Roy groans for all the wrong reasons, throwing his head back. He keeps them steady as he awkwardly reaches his back pocket for his phone. “Pfft, it’s just Hughes,” he mutters after a concerted effort and sets the cell down on the chair of the arm. Softer and locked on her other unattended breast, he mumbles with a mouth full of her, “He can leave a message.”
Riza doesn’t remember which one is Hughes and she’s not given much time to think about it when his mouth returns to her breast and his hand squeezes, massages, tweaks at the other. She’s at the point of moaning out if you say so when the vibrations and standard tune rings out again.
He stops altogether and after a few seconds, it dies to a stop only to start up again. His attention is needed again, and she’s never felt quite as pissed off at an inanimate object as she does right now. Roy growls and sits back, picking up the phone. “Let me just see what he wants.”
She nods wordlessly and he starts the conversation, going beyond standard small talk after a few moments. She can hear the other man talking; an excitable person who gets even more excited when he talks about certain topics. She can’t discern what they’re talking about exactly, but Roy gives the occasional mhm and yeah when it’s warranted.
Riza figures she can go wait for him in the bedroom. Perhaps sprawled out with a bright, blinking sign that says ‘insert here’ in between her legs should he fail to see how much she wanted him that afternoon; she blames Rebecca’s influence for that kind of ridiculous humor. Riza starts to climb off him and stops when she’s kept in place from his hand gripping the fabric of her skirt. He wants her to stay there? She frowns and points at the phone. His brows furrow and he shakes his head, putting a finger over his mouth, telling her to be quiet.
Well, she can go be quiet in the other room. She can respect his privacy. It’s not a big deal; they had the entire evening to themselves. Well, nearly - but she’d be damned if she’d let any other distractions interrupt them after this call. She deserves to be fucked thoroughly.
Roy is apparently impatient, however. The hand holding the finger over his mouth flattens over her thigh and coasts up to the edge of her skirt. He thumbs the skin there, teasing the idea that he could touch her in the middle of this conversation. She looks at him knowingly when he crosses underneath the folds of her skirt, yet he continues on talking as though nothing has happened. He caresses the skin inside her thighs as he talks about something or the other: Riza isn’t concentrating on that, instead absorbed with the sensation of his fingers drifting higher and higher. She waits patiently, but his touch somehow makes her hotter, wetter. A devious finger lightly ghosts over the linen of her damp underwear and he says a perfectly timed “Oh?” towards the caller and to her. Riza blushes and grabs at his wrist.
She can sit up, she can leave the room, she knows that he’d respect that, but she doesn’t want to. She realizes there’s a morbid curiosity as to how and why he does things and she always wants to know. This is moment is one of them. It’s why she doesn’t stop him when he tugs aside the cloth of her underwear and wets his fingers with what’s in between her lips. Her frown dissipates and she gasps as if she’s been starved from his touch, like it’s an electrifying drug she’s been having withdrawals from. The sensations of his fingers rubbing against her clit is familiar and unknown, and she lets her head fall back, relishing in the feeling and clawing lightly at the armchair.
His fingers leave her and he cleans them off with his mouth before gesturing her to be quiet with a finger over his mouth again. She thinks she can hear his friend say “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” he responds, looking directly at her with a devious glint in his eyes. “Just eating. Go on.”
A warm tingle shoots down her spine and spreads across her abdomen down to her groin. She’s been enraptured by a lunatic and she’s allowed it to happen, even now when he aims to touch her again. With a bite to her knuckle, she grasps at his loosened shirt when his fingers return to remind her how obnoxiously needy she has become. Giving into this notion, she moves to hover over his lap for shameless access. He bites a bottom lip at this, staring her from the wrinkled mess of her skirt to her flushed, knuckle-biting face. She’s wet enough that an easy orgasm is on the horizon from the slow, rubbing stimulation on her clit. Riza makes the mistake of thinking he’ll stop there, because then one finger enters her and then another. Her reaction is unexpected, even to her. She falls back to his lap and bites the fleshy side of her palm to quell the noises. Her spread legs allow him to finger her, so he does. Slowly. In and out, and the noises would make her die of mortification if she weren’t enjoying every satisfyingly building moment of this pleasure. His palm is hitting her stimulated clit with each stroke and she’s grasping at his shirt once more, trying to salvage what solid ground she can keep as the pleasure rises within her..
He slows down when she’s at the precipice of a delicious orgasm that she even licks her lips, and decides to become an active participant in his phone call. But it’s not in English. He shifts to Spanish while his hand moves against her more patiently. She tries to catch her breath from holding it but it’s impossible not to listen to the way he’s talking. It’s fascinating how melodic a different language sounds and how much of a turn on it is for her. He speaks this language faster. His R’s roll off his tongue and somehow there’s more sensuality in his voice. It’s mesmerizing.
His attention turns back to her when moments ago he was staring at some place off to the side. He looks to her hips and she doesn’t even realize - until he does - how subtly she was moving them. Roy pauses, eyebrows furrowed before a downright hungry grin forms on his face, and his fingers begin to move once more.
“Estoy eschuchando,” he answers the person on the other line, his diction shifting into a huskier tone, each syllable pronounced lower and slower. She thought it was bad enough when he spoke it casually, but when he did it deliberately? She can only handle so much stimuli, and by this point she’s uncaring of how shameless she’s acting, how she’s become putty in his hands. She’s drunk on this orgasm she can feel barrelling towards her, on the lust and desire she feels for him. She’s never felt it quite like this before - this want that feels more like a need with every passing second. She wants to take the phone and hang it up for him, but she opts for pulling at the collar of his partially unbuttoned shirt and biting the taut muscle at the meeting of his neck and shoulder. He maintains that paced fingering in and out of her. She knows she’s tightening around his fingers because of the paced movement.
With his deliberate words at her ear, his fingers inside her, and the smell of his bare skin, she climaxes against him, taking deep breaths and every measure to stifle the moans and groans. Her head rests over his shoulder, hot breath hitting his neck. She can see him swallowing and doesn’t know why she didn’t think to give him the same torturing she just endured.
He’s hard. She can feel it and see it in this light. She palms it, clutches it, strokes it, and he swallows thickly again. He sounds strained when he cuts off the caller and abruptly says, “I’ll have to call you back.” Roy ends the call and the phone is tossed to the wayside as his fingers slide out of her.
She grabs his cock harder and he surprises her by standing up, supporting her by her underside until she’s laid on his desk directly behind her, over the papers she had spent last week meticulously highlighting. She lifts her hips to help with the removal of her own underwear. As he works with his own pants she tries to salvage what’s underneath her to little success. Distracted by her menial task, she gasps, surprised, when her wrists are manacled and set at either side of her head. Her breathing is heavy, his too. The tip of him nudges at her entrance and she moves against it, towards it just for the stretch a little bit more of him inside her.
“A little bird tells me you have a secret.”
Riza smiles coyly after a futile attempt to use her legs to bring him forward. “Hardly a secret if you know about it,” she manages, half-heartedly trying to move her arms. He doesn’t budge an inch, his smile dark and promising. She supposes at this point nothing should really surprise her when it comes to her newfound appreciation for less-than-vanilla sex, but there’s just something so inherently sexy about being pinned down by him, even as simply as she is right now. The temporary loss of control is so easy to lose herself in.
Roy observes her hungrily. “A kink then.”
The initial thrust makes her gasp sharply and he groans pleasantly. Her limbs dangle off the side as he fucks her over his desk. Where he was well-paced before, he is erratic now, but he won’t find complaint from her in that regard. She has no means of quieting herself with her hands where they are, and biting down at her teeth proves inefficient when each of his thrusts touch places she’s been yearning for weeks, when the stretch she’s been hungry for is finally given to her. Her eyes are shut, mouth open, body subject to this carnal movement. She doesn’t think to see beyond her eyes for the time being, what expressions his face is making or anything that will take her away from the here and now of the feelings of the sex. She feels selfish for relishing in this, but fuck, it’s been a long time coming and this sex proves it.
He lets go of her wrists and brings her toward him to hang just a little more over the desk by way of her legs. She reaches over her head at the other end of the desk, moaning into the inside of her arm, clutching the edge as if it were her salvation from plunging into the deep.
Her eyes open suddenly when he thumbs her clit. She looks at him and there’s a wolfish grin on his face, enjoying her reactions in the ways she squirms, moans, mewls, and tightens. Her fingernails scratch at the desk for purchase, for breath, but he continues with sweat beading his brow until he grunts a little louder and his final thrusts hit deeper as he cums inside her.
Her own orgasm follows shortly after, and she’s left quivering on the desk, well aware of the sight she is before him. She can feel his seed leaking out of her as her pulls out, and automatically her fingers move to catch it - like hell was she going to completely debase the paperwork that was crumpled underneath her. He utters a strange, strained grunt, running a hand through his hair roughly.
“I’ve told you, you can’t just do that with no warning.”
“Oh?” Her hand rises back up to her mouth and she wets her lower lip in anticipation. “Do this?” Her tongue darts out to lap at the milky, viscous fluid and while the taste is not delightful, the reaction that he has most certainly is. She barely has time to repeat her actions before his hand closes firmly over her own, and pulling her up to a sitting position at the edge of his desk.
“No,” he tells her firmly, though the matching smile on his lips belies any real annoyance. “If you’re going to be the death of me I’d at least like to get my money’s worth.” The kiss he drops on her forehead is soft. “I’ll get you a washcloth,” he says, fixing up his trousers loosely. The faint trail of hair sticks out against his lower abdomen like a beacon and Riza swallows the urge to coax him back for another round.
She adjusts the straps of her bra back up on her shoulders and nicks his discarded shirt from the ground. Her skirt is a crumpled, lost cause, and Riza makes a mental note to pick up an iron at some point this weekend - she hadn’t noticed it immediately, but of the many appliances Olivier had taken with her, the iron was the one she had relied on the most. Rebecca had bitched endlessly about the mini espresso machine that had also disappeared, though it had quickly been replaced.
She rolls up the sleeves of his shirt as she walks down the hallway towards the kitchen, humming under her breath. Roy would probably appreciate a cup of coffee, she thinks, focusing on doing the buttons up correctly as she passes by the island countertop and the man sitting there.
She stills, before turning to make sure she’s seeing right. The man looks up from the plate in front of him and raises his mug in greeting, the lowlights from the kitchen reflecting strangely on his glasses.
“You kids had fun?” he asks, before taking a sip. His tone is light, breezy, and he gestures to the plate in front of him when she doesn’t respond. “You’re probably hungry after that, uh-” he breaks off laughing, ducking his head “-after that workout. My wife made a quiche - you should have some, it is the best in the world, and I’m not biased.”

Game: Wario’s Woods (NES version)
It’s a Wario’s Woods masterpost! If you ask me, this is an extremely underappreciated game, for its fun gameplay, unlikely cast of characters, and overall weirdness. You play as Toad, and maneuver around a block-falling puzzle game screen. Instead of blocks, though, this game has colorful bombs and wonderful little monsters! Toad can walk, climb, pick things up, put things down, and even kick to slide things across the stage. These monsters are sent by none other than Wario, who is trying to take over the woods for some reason. Toad is helped by Birdo, of all characters, as well as a fairy named Wanda. So as you can tell, this is a fairly odd game.
The monsters don’t really do enough to warrant their own individual posts, but that won’t stop me from reviewing them all here under the cut!
Name: Fuzz
Fuzz is the most common enemy. Weirdly, it doesn’t look all that fuzzy, does it? It looks like all its hair swoops down smoothly over its mouth, but I guess “smooth” isn’t a great name for a creature. I love its incredibly weird mouth.
Name: Squeak
Squeaks are also very common. The wiki calls them sheep creatures, but I don’t think I see it. Are they even mammalian? Anyway, they look adorably concerned.
Name: Beaker
Beaker is the rarest enemy! They can only be defeated by diagonal bombs, making them harder to defeat than the common enemies. I have no idea why it’s called Beaker. Does it have a beak? It looks like it just has a hairless face and no mouth. Or maybe it likes chemistry. Nerd! If it wasn’t the size of Toad, it would probably be actually kind of scary with its lack of mouth and hulking stature.
Name: Scram
Get a load of this thing! Scram is some kind of little mammal-looking thing that wears a dress! It looks like it’s frantically pacing in place with its dress up in panic like it’s scared of a bug on the ground. Maybe it’s telling the bug to scram! This is another one that can only be defeated diagonally. And look at its ketchup and mustard color scheme! Oh yeah, and the Japanese name roughly translates to “Bartholomew”.
Name: Dovo
This thing is weird! The wiki describes it as “crab-like”, but it seems a lot more like a solid ghost with big grabby scoop arms to me. They’re one of the hardest enemies, requiring two bombs to defeat, and you only have a limited time after the first bomb to defeat them, and if you’re too slow, they’ll require two bombs again!
Name: Spook
Hey, what’s the deal with this mushroom being called Spook when we just had a ghosty thing? Oh well. Spook is so happy! That makes it all okay. Unless it’s laughing at you because it, like Dovo, requires two bombs. Delightfully devilish, Spook!
Name: Spud
I saved my favorite for last! Spud is actually also one of the most common enemies, with no special strategy to defeat. It’s a root vegetable of some sort with a face, and is named after potatoes. That’s really it. But quality over quantity! Spud delivers in spades.
So that’s it for Wario’s Woods! There are actually some bosses in the NES version too, but they’re so... designed. They’re pretty much all some kind of established monster, lacking the beautiful ambiguity of the little buddies.
The opponents Toad faces off against in the SNES version, on the other hand...

Fallen Star - 7/?
A/N: Not all that exciting, I assure you, but certainly longer than any of the previous chapters. I hope you find something in it worthwhile.
*many thanks to @valeriemperez for beta’ing.
Chapter 7 -
No matter how hard Iris tried, she could not seem to focus on Linda’s genius plan to piss Barry off in order to bring them back together. She knew in theory it was solid, and she did have to admit the story was one she would have greedily chased if it actually existed, though maybe she wouldn’t act on it to the extent Linda was suggesting she would – hypothetically speaking, but she couldn’t stop thinking about that New Year’s Eve party at STAR Labs that she had yet to make a decision about.
Barry had bought her a gorgeous shiny floor-length dress for their six-month anniversary near the end of November. She knew he’d been eyeing the dresses that showed a little more skin than this one did and just didn’t want to be labeled a perv by the girlfriend of his dreams and tried to tell him so. He refused to admit to it though, and so she told him she appreciated the gift. Which she did. The dress was absolutely stunning and looked amazing on her when she tried it on.
You would’ve thought she was wearing lingerie from Barry’s inability to speak and the color draining from his face, the bulge forming in his pants. It did show a bit of cleavage and there was a slit for her leg, but she didn’t think it warranted that much of a reaction.
Still, when he lunged for her, and she giggled, “Don’t rip the dress!”, he sped-stripped it off of her and responded, “Save it for New Year’s.” She’d nodded, giddy. “That’s perfect.”
It’d been a magical, intoxicating night after that, and when she found the dress in her closet today she could not help but think of that night and the bright future that lay ahead of them then. One that, as far as she could tell, had been wiped from existence now.
She turned her phone over and over in her hand, trying to decide. Linda had offered to take her with her to New York City where her cousin had managed to snag an invite to a classy party on a rooftop in full view of the huge glittering ball that would sound off the new year. It was an enticing offer, she had to admit. She’d never seen the ball anywhere other than on TV. She’d never even been to New York. She always wanted to go, see the lights all lit up at night, be amidst the crowds on a busy Friday night or a busy Friday day. She wanted to go to a Broadway show and spend hours shopping at vendors in the city streets. She wanted to browse through Tiffany’s most beautiful – and expensive – diamond collection and be stopped in the middle of Times Square because her face was zoomed in on the big screen.
She wanted to kiss who she was with in that moment, have it shown to everyone who was walking by. She wanted that magic of knowing anyone who cared to pay attention could see how desperately in love she was with that person.
And she wanted that person to be Barry.
Tears welled in her eyes as she abandoned the phone on the table and went to curl in a ball on the couch.
She wanted everything with Barry.
She’d wanted Christmas with Barry – mistletoe and eggnog and a fully decorated tree and opening presents and caroling and waking up on Christmas morning wrapped up in each other and eating Christmas cookies, one of her few specialties she excelled at.
She hadn’t gotten that this year. They hadn’t gotten it this year.
Instead they fought and broke up, and her favorite holiday in the world was forever tainted because apparently her Bear had been restraining himself for fear of losing her and had decided that if it was worth the risk if she had some sense knocked into her.
The rumblings of anger buzzed inside her, but it wasn’t nearly as intense as it had been a week ago or any day since. Because right now she missed him so much it hurt. Right now she was willing to throw away her entire career if it meant holding him in her arms again and hearing I love you float passed his lips, hearing I missed you and let’s never break up again tumble off his tongue. She missed the pressure of his lips against hers, of his body against hers, of his fingers in her hair, his whisper in her ear…
She missed everything.
Why couldn’t things be okay? Just for one night, one magical, endless night, why couldn’t their love be enough?
She shivered where she sat and pulled a folded blanket up over her, huddling into its warmth.
But he’s not even going to be there, Iris.
It could be the truth. He might not decide to show, if Cisco prodded Barry to show up the way Caitlin had done to her. They might be in the same space, and not by accident either. Whenever Cisco and Caitlin teamed up on something, it was usually with good intentions. Which meant they wanted to get the two of them back together and had likely decided since they were making no moves in that direction, it was up to the saavy science nerds of Team Flash to step in for them.
If only it was so simple.
Her phone buzzed across the room, nearing the edge of the table where she’d left it.
It was either Linda, asking her if she was sure she wanted to spend her New Year’s Eve alone, even though she was likely already in New York getting ready for the party. I’ll send in the ‘copter, she’d probably say, only half-joking – or it was Caitlin, reminding her that the party started in less than two hours and she had yet to give her a response.
She bit her bottom lip, thought about that dress, about Barry being there, about Barry not being there, about truly spending another holiday moping and/or feeling depressed, about the rest of the team that probably only wanted to help, about the champagne and the smiles and the new year that could change everything.
She snapped to her feet, zipped across the room, her slippers sliding on the wood floor, and answered the call.
“Hey, Caitlin.”
“Iris! Hey, I was just calling becau-”
“I’m coming.”
A pause, probably due to shock and uncertainty.
“You’re…you’re coming?”
“I’m coming, yes.”
“You’re sure.”
“Absolutely positively!” she assured. Too much, Iris, she grimaced a beat later.
“Well, that’s…great!” A smile in her voice. It made Iris smile too. “You can just head on up to the roof when you get here. If no one’s up there we’re just grabbing extra food and drink.”
“Great! That sounds great, Caitlin. I can’t wait.”
A pause – more smiling from both of them.
“I’ll see you later then, Iris.”
“Should I bring anything?” she asked hurriedly, the thought of contributing unexpectedly dawning on her suddenly.
“Nope. Just yourself,” she soothed.
“Just myself.”
“See you at seven.”
“See you.”
Click.
She set the phone back down on the table and stared out the window, letting the realization of what she’d just done sink in.
A party to forget or a party that might change everything. Her breath caught in her throat, imagining the look that might be in Barry’s eyes when he saw her in that dress – if he sees you, Iris.
She had a feeling he would.
…
Barry stared at himself in the tall mirror and sighed loudly.
“That does not sound like a man who is excited to go to the…” Cisco slid along the floor into view behind him. “Best New Year’s Even party of his life!” he sang.
Barry’s expression did not change.
“Is it too much?”
Cisco glared.
“Dude. You’re wearing a navy suit with a sparkly tie.
“Yeah.”
“It’s better than the first thing you put on.”
Barry paused, recalling, and then nodded resigned.
“Yeah, the bedazzled black tux was a little over-the-top.”
“Ya think?” Cisco deadpanned.
“This might be too, though…”
“You’re not going to the party in a t-shirt and jeans, my friend. This is a party, not…a movie marathon.”
Barry frowned and turned to look at him.
“But Iris isn’t going to be there.”
Cisco raised his eyebrows. “Is that the only time you would try to look nice?”
He shrugged. “Well, it’s nothing with work either or a formal function.”
“Everyone is dressing up,” he complained. “Just because you’re feeling mopey doesn’t mean you have to look that way.”
Barry paused, thinking. “Right,” he finally said. “No, you’re right. Sorry, Cisco.”
Cisco sighed. “It’s all good, my man. We’re gonna have a good time tonight, I promise.”
“Even though I can’t get drunk?” he drawled.
“You don’t need to get a drunk to have a good time,” he almost yelled.
Barry was working his last nerve. He’d been absolutely elated when his best friend hadn’t needed much convincing to agree to come to the New Year’s Eve party he and Caitlin had concocted two days prior. Apparently though, keeping him invested in the idea took a lot more effort than what Caitlin had to deal with – which had just been a last minute rsvp.
“You’re sure Iris isn’t going to be there?” Barry asked, smoothing down his tie again.
“We didn’t invite her,” Cisco said matter-of-factly.
Barry met his eyes. “You don’t think that’s kind of…mean?”
Cisco blinked.
“I mean, she’s part of the team too. Won’t she be offended you didn’t even offer?”
“She doesn’t want to be around you any more than you want to be around her.”
His heart sank.
“Trust me when I say she would’ve said no even if we had asked.”
“Oh,” he said quietly, saddened – and giving Cisco an unbelievable amount of joy.
She’s coming! She’s coming! She’s coming!
But he kept his mouth shut on that little truth. The happy reunion would unfold itself soon enough.
“Think she’s missed me?” he asked, too deep in his sadness to even try to come across nonchalant.
Cisco stilled and gripped his shoulder until Barry looked up at him.
“Do you want me to invite her?”
Barry’s eyes widened. “No.” He shook his head. “No, definitely not. Of course not. No.”
Cisco looked at him strangely. “Does that mean…yes?”
Irritated, he walked passed him. “No, Cisco, it means no.” He sighed, gripping his hands on the counter. “There would be no point.”
Cisco swallowed hard, for the first time genuinely worried that his plan might fall through.
“Why…is that?” he asked.
“Because nothing has changed,” he said sorrowfully. “Neither of us is willing to budge. If I was I’d have groveled at her feet by now, and if she was… Well, she wouldn’t have groveled, but somehow, she would have let me know. It’s been a week, Cisco.” He sighed again and turned to face his friend. “A week.”
“I know.”
“It’s been so hard not seeing her, not being with her, not sharing things with her, not having her as my best friend. It’s like when I broke up with her, I lost all of her. I lost Iris the best friend and Iris the girlfriend.”
Cisco hesitantly walked towards him, bracing himself for the question he was about to broach.
“Correct me if I’m wrong, but…hasn’t it been you avoiding her?”
Barry looked at him. “Has she been trying to contact me without my knowing?”
“Well…” he squeaked.
“Yeah, I didn’t think so.” He ran his hand over his face. “We’re both avoiding each other.”
“Maybe you should both stop. At the very least try to be civil.”
He frowned. “I’m being civil.”
“Because being in the same room with her would make you lash out?”
“I’ve been in the same room with her.”
“When?” he demanded. He didn’t know about this.
“A few days ago, at CCPD. We had a run-in. It didn’t last long. I tripped over myself on the stairs. She snapped at me.”
“Because you fell down the stairs?”
“Because I asked her why she was there.”
“Did you snap first?”
“I don’t think so…I was just returning some files Joe left in my lab.”
“Hmm.”
“Don’t analyze it too much, Cisco. All I’m saying is, I’m not the only one trying to avoid a confrontation. And you know what? That’s okay. Maybe right now it’s best if we don’t see each other. Then gradually…in another week or so maybe, we can slowly start interacting again. By Valentine’s Day it’ll be like we were never a couple at all.”
“You don’t sound bothered by that possibility,” Cisco pointed out, slightly troubled. “Isn’t this the girl you’ve been in love with since you were like ten?”
“Nine.”
“Nine. Even worse.”
Barry glared at him.
“All I’m saying is maybe she’s worth not giving up on.”
He sighed. “I tried Cisco. I waited it out. I gently made suggestions. I got a little more forceful. The only effect it had on her was her pushing harder than ever to do what she wanted – or to brush it under the rug. I could forget it at night when it was just us together, hanging out…going on dates…just being us. But…then I’d run across a story she was working on or hear about a dangerous criminal she couldn’t wait to track down – unprotected with zero plan of getting out if her life was in danger. And I can’t be everywhere at once. I can’t concentrate on anything when I know my girlfriend is out there not being safe, being reckless, and that she might die at any moment just because she refuses to have any common sense.”
His temper was rising, his frustration on the issue clearly still present. Cisco wondered for the first time if his genius plan was all that genius. There was a pretty good possibility the party could be shut down before it barely began when instead of kissing at midnight, Barry and Iris started fighting the moment they spotted each other on the rooftop.
“Well, you won’t have to worry about that tonight,” he said, to get his mind off it as much as Barry’s. “Just try to relax, have some fun, drink some champagne pretend you’re affected by it.”
He laughed, a real one, and Cisco relaxed some too.
It was short-lived.
“A night with no Iris sounds like a good night to me.”
Crap.
…
The wind whipped around her when she stepped out of her car, her hair fluttering around her shoulders as she looked up at the looming STAR Labs and the satellite at the top where she could see decorative white lights lining the perimeter of the roof. There really is a rooftop party, she mused.
Whether or not Barry would be at it was something else entirely, but she’d decided she would risk it. She had this beautiful dress that she’d promised to save for New Year’s. Whether or not she and Barry were together shouldn’t determine what she was allowed to wear or even what she was allowed to do. It was a week from their break-up tonight. If Linda’s plan didn’t work, she would need an escape, something to take the edge off that wasn’t just vodka shots in Linda’s kitchen. And she’d been promised Barry wouldn’t be here. She only trusted that about 50/50, and a big part of her wanted him to be there so she could show him what he was missing – and what he could easily get back if he would just…
Her phone buzzed in the sparkly clutch she’d brought with her. She checked the screen to find a text staring back at her from Cisco.
You coming?
She nodded and took a breath.
Just got here.
She was about to go inside when her phone started to buzz again, this time with a phone call. She frowned by answered it on her way to the building.
“Hey, Caitlin, I just told Cisco-”
“Hey, Iris, I know I told you to just meet us all up on the roof, but HR he…and Cisco...”
“Say no more,” she interjected soothingly. “I’ll meet you guys in the cortex.”
“Great. Thanks.”
Iris smiled and shook her head as she tucked her phone back into her clutch. She had wondered why they hadn’t wanted to all meet up in the cortex or even have the party in the speed lab and head up to the roof when it got closer to midnight. She figured the view was the reason behind it, and she knew she’d agree with that. Plus, maybe they wanted to switch things up given what happened the last time they decorated the cortex and speed lab and… well, obviously the events in their personal lives kept anyone from really enjoying it.
“Iris! Thank God!” Caitlin came speeding towards her as fast as she could in her high heels with her arms full of food and decorations.
Iris quickly stepped out of the elevator before the brunette almost tumbled in with her.
“Hey, let me take something.” She laughed and shook her head as she grabbed a bowl of overflowing popcorn and a box of unopened shot glasses. “I thought you guys prepared for this.”
“I know, I know,” she laughed nervously. “Cisco and I had two days to get our asses in gear, but there was Flash business today – a robbery,” she said hastily, avoiding eye contact as she did. “And, well, HR was determined to decorate but then he accidentally interrupted the lab instead of the roof, and-”
“Hey, hey, breathe,” Iris commanded gently, staring straight at her and willing Caitlin to feel the comfort since her arms were too full to console her by physical touch.
“Right. Breathe.”
“It’s what? Five after seven? That’s almost five hours till midnight. I’m sure we can get everything set up in a half hour or less.”
“You’re right.”
“Where’s Cisco? Maybe we can get everything in order and head up to the roof in like ten minutes? Shouldn’t take too long to decorate, though we may want to think twice about setting out too much food and other things. It was windy in the parking lot. Must be much worse higher up.”
Caitlin’s face fell. “You’re right.”
“Hey, no, don’t worry,” she reassured again. “If it’s really bad we can go in the speed lab and just head on up to the roof for the countdown. If we get all the decorations secured, it shouldn’t be a problem. Who wants to be chilly all night anyways, right? It’s nearly January after all and I didn’t exactly come bundled in a winter jacket.”
Caitlin looked down at Iris’ attired for the first time and her eyes widened, her mouth fell open.
“Oh my God, Iris, you look gorgeous.”
Slightly flustered, Iris smoothed down the sparkling dress.
“Thanks, Caitlin, Barry got-”
She stopped and swallowed hard, the words caught in her throat. Luckily, this time Caitlin came to her rescue.
“You know what, why don’t you take these streamers and lights instead?” She offered her other arm to Iris where the items were starting to teeter over. “If decorations are the priority then we should get them up first. I’ll take the snacks back to Cisco and tell him the new plan.”
She frowned. “You’re sure? I can help with more…”
“No need,” she insisted. “It won’t take long for us to get everything sorted. If we’re not up in ten minutes, you can come back and help up get our act together.” She laughed lightly.
“All right…” she said reluctantly. “Maybe five minutes, though?” She started heading back to the elevator.
“Sure. That works fine too.”
She was more puzzled than ever by Caitlin’s sudden avoiding eye contact and the odd tone to her voice, but she dismissed it to her clearly being frazzled by the team’s lack of preparedness. The brunette’s dashing back down the hall where Cisco and HR were likely still trying to organize everything added to that theory.
Still…something was off.
Whatever was off though was completely forgotten when she stepped out onto the roof. She gasped, starstruck at the sight of all the buildings and the lights beneath on the city streets. The stars sparkled across a dark sky and the moon was big and brilliant. She almost dropped the decorations held tightly in her hands.
She was so mesmerized she almost didn’t hear the roof door open and close again.
“Has it been five minutes already?” she asked, smiling when she turned around to greet the newcomer.
The smile immediately dissolved, the rest of her body equally paralyzed. She swallowed hard and reminded herself to breathe.
“Iris.”
God, she hated when she was right.
His voice was raw, rough, stunned, and achingly familiar. Unlike herself, he apparently hadn’t considered the possibility that they might have been set up. She tried not to look too deflated. The part of her that had been aching for this scenario was overwhelmed with the part that wanted to be free of that worry, which was unfortunate given how badly she’d wanted it earlier.
Still, she summoned her courage and walked into the fire with all the grace, class, and half-hearted enthusiasm she could muster.
“Hello, Barry.”

Joran ep 11 afterlog
HANA HANA HANA MY LOVE. Hana looks so maternal and I’m laughing. Funny what a palette change can do to you. I LOVE HANAKAZE ELENA. She’s badass, she’s truthful, she’s here to teach you how to be a person and I love her for it. That’s it that’s the entire review.
I was watching it on a desktop/big screen for the first time since I saw this series and it’s beautiful. I noticed the sound effects in the op and I thought it was just because I switched devices and had louder speakers, but it was new! Did it took everyone 11 episodes to noticed that was missing lol? Either way, it was so much cooler especially with the drawn swords and the surrounds sound/shot of Yuki.
What’s my deepest impression this week? I really liked the expressions. This episode is beautifully drawn. I almost got the satisfaction of watching Arc 1 back, maybe, close to ep 3. There wasn’t a close-up but the pain in Sawa’s eyes when she questioned Jin. The playfulness on Hana when she complains about the baby belly. And that little geniune smile on Yuki learning Hana is well and alive, for just a second before Rinko attacks! The resignation after their fight...
*sigh* I saw they are gonna set up Yuki vs Rinko the moment she revealed about being a living weapon. I knew Rinko is just a foil, a pawn. But I really like her and I don’t wanna see my girls fght T^T. OK, so her speech is a near exact of Yuki’s words as an executioner in episode 1: “I don’t hate you, I liked you, but I have no other way to live”. Bro... it’s just hard when you like a foil character and you are on a narrative that will, treat them as pawns and will, kill ANYBODY.
Yuki’s so OP in the fight. Not that I think she’d lose, but she practically displayed a new set of skills we never seen before. Not just because of plot convenience, it was mentioned in ep 9 that Rinko admits Yuki is a lot more powerful than she is so of course she’d win. I just, didn’t see it coming so soon, thought maybe it was reserved to be a final thematic battle about “nature vs manmade”. Likewise, I was expecting her to henshin when she put down her sword. Turns out she doesn’t even need Nana to have superhuman strength now?? She has been a sword lady (and supernaturally-enhanced) all series, it came quite a shock that she suddenly fights bare-hand expertly (in Wing Chun???). It’s still within the realms of possibility, stretching it to the limits. I guess I’m still relieved Rinko didn’t die in the end, but on one hand I hope we don’t get to see her again so I can headcanon her live happy somewhere offscreen, but do this government waste any asset? Are they not gonna bring her back, give her a monster upgrade, and made her the final villain??
Maybe the theme of this episode (and all along), is change and choices. The executioners knew no other way to live. Jin massacred the village but spend his life atoning by saving Sawa. Sawa chose to walk away from killing. Even Hana changed instead of ambushing Rinko. But Rinko can’t, and the Yoshinobu regime she takes order from can’t, so they are doomed to fail. IDK, surface reading only.
Oh, Asahi... I keep hoping she was a hallucination... Woah, what would that add to depicting the grieving process? Can’t you just... let Yuki grieve once proper and let her learn from all that she couldn’t/didn’t when she lost her village...
I mean... I knew they would'n't kill off a little girl like Asahi, but just when I slowly accepted the tragedy, they really brought her back... Though I fear, if the curse of the blue blood is gonna cycle on Asahi if the blue pills are what saved her from a mortal wound. Don't think they'd actually reveal if it's Janome's pills that saved Asahi making her a blue-blood now. But more so it was that I'm frowning at how Asahi's miraculous resurrection could cheapen Sawa's recovery in episode 9. She hits her lowest point after losing everyone, but was able to recover from suicide by reconnecting with her familial roots and practising what Asahi taught her and honour her by loving herself a little bit more. Sure, it's a fantasy anime and of course it's wonderful to see Sawa rewarded with what she wanted the most in the world, and the character growth is still there, but I think it'd be a nice change to see Sawa finally living for herself instead of for somebody else.
Now listen to me. Yukimura Sawa is a NERD. She’s probably ace and only eighteen, raised by a probably also ace ex-human experiment victim to be an assassin for the past ten years. OF COURSE the right course of action is to go find an obstetrics textbook RIGHT WHEN THE MOTHER IS IN LABOUR. She could dismember you in a hundred parts but don’t ask her to name any of it. “I can see something” YES THAT THE BABY’S HEAD look even an eight-year-old has more common sense than you...
Hana’s theme during the delivery scene is beautiful. *gasp* I look at them and I just want the four of them to live in a happy little found family. Hana’s expression asleep is so gentle ah I love her
The last act between Yuki and Asahi is wholesome, but the internal “sus” alarm at such a fluff scene, and my above sourness did not allow myself to fully enjoy the scene. Damn the ending touches me. It’s just, so visually beautiful I wanna gif it so bad.
This is the third episode I felt the story wasn’t going anywhere. As a seasonal anime, the comment isn’t warranted, given other contemporary anime I’m watching also delved into backstory by #9 and #10. But as an arc it’s rather concerning. and I’m using “concerning” and not “confusing” simply because I didn’t like to call the shot before all episodes are out.
Three episodes in and the political commentary never passed anything superficial. I'm concerned if the finale can conclude all the plot lines, but I won't complain if it's just Sawa charging into the palace and killing everyone in her way. After today, I've decided to just kick-back and enjoy the badass fights. Well, it wasn’t exactly like I was expecting a show I call “14 and edgy” to be good.

Top 10 reasons to switch to a Mac... or not.
Back in the early 2000s, around the time of Windows XP, Apple compiled this list of ten reasons to switch from a PC to a Mac: https://web.archive.org/web/20050415011955/http://www.apple.com/switch/whyswitch/ But are these reasons warranted? Probably not.
1. “The Mac... it just works.” This point is basically that because Apple made the computers that Mac OS runs on, you don’t have to worry about drivers or whatnot. But noooope! What really happens with letting third parties make hardware for your software is actually upgradable computers (probably due to the fact that the vital parts like CPUs and RAM need to be able to fit PCs of multiple brands) or specialised computers, such as gaming computers. Another benefit has been the inclusion of special features in some PCs, even way back when this was written. Sure, hardware manufacturers have to fight tooth and nail to get drivers that work well and don’t cause crashes, but hey, having an upgradable computer with niche features that can last for a long time with little more than RAM upgrades is worth it, right?
2. “It doesn’t crash” Ha ha... AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Like that actually means so much in the grand scheme of things! Now let’s just say that Mac OS X came out in 2001. Before then, Bomb Screens were a thing. And they were everywhere. Due to the Macintosh’s terrible memory protection (as well as a very small amount of memory to begin with) meant that the simplest errors in an application (such as a divide by 0 error) would cause the entire system to crash. As the Angry Video Game Nerd loves to say, what a shitload of fuck. Windows, on the other hand, would only completely crash on serious errors. In Windows 9x, it was possible to resume after a BSOD which, like the bomb screen, applied to program errors as well as system errors. In Windows 3.11, you could get a BSOD just for pressing Ctrl-Alt-Delete! It was in Windows NT, including Windows XP and later, that the BSOD was reserved for errors you couldn’t recover from. In Windows, the majority of crashes come from faulty third-party software, drivers or hardware, something that is to be expected. Meaning that there are few flaws within the OS itself. In the Mac, however, the only reason it can crash is due to a flaw in the OS (or maybe ruined hardware), due to the lack of third party contributions. Furthermore, while the Blue Screen of Death tells you exactly what happened with an error code (and sometimes even tell you which file or driver is responsible), as well as even giving you advice should the BSOD rear its ugly head again, Macs do very little of that, meaning that you may have no choice but to reinstall the OS.
3. “It’s a digital jukebox” Windows Media Player: Am I a joke to you? Moreover this reason is about the iPod, and Microsoft did not have an equivalent because they were focused on computers rather than portable devices. This is not a reason to switch to a mac. Also, there’s iTunes for Windows if you have an iPod you wish to manage songs on.
4. “Delivers The Promise Of Digital Photography” iPhoto is not the only thing that exists. There is a whole heap of freeware that exists that will do what iPhoto does and more. Paint.net and Windows Photo Viewer are just two of many. Also, with digital cameras, you need only have a compatiable USB cable, plug it in to your Windows XP computer and let it do the work. Because Windows XP can magically detect and adapt to hardware like that.
5. “Best Solution, In Fact, For All Things Digital” iLife more like iShit. Even Windows 98 could do everything iLife does with free third-party applications. Microsoft doesn’t put much on a clean installation of Windows because they know you’re gonna find a decent third party application for what you want that would quite possibly be better than what they can come up with.
6. “Built To Go Everywhere — Because That’s Where You’ll Want It” This argument is just so stupid, I swear to God... even ignoring the fact that laptops today can have massive hard drives and long battery lives Windows laptops are still pretty big contenders even back then. “capacious hard drives”? My old af Acer had 40 GB. Still fairly decent for the time. “built-in optical drives”? Oh please, it wasn’t until the Windows 8/10 era that I’ve ever seen a laptop without one. “USB”? My Acer has several! “Can your PC laptop go coast to coast with just one battery?” Well not anymore, because that battery is several years old but I bet it could in its day. “Can you put the system to sleep just by closing the lid? Does it wake up instantly?” No, because I told it not to! I wanted it to only go to sleep when I press the power button, so I can just put the lid down for a split second. “Can your PC laptop automatically switch between Ethernet, dial-up and wireless connections on the fly? Without a restart?” Yeah, what did you think the Network and Sharing Centre was for?
7. “The Internet Is Integrated” So you think it takes a heck of a long time to configure a PC for the internet. What!? “up-and-surfing within 15 minutes”? Jeez you set the bar low. An internet setup wizard can get the internet set up in under five. Also, as someone who has used VMs, all I’ve had to do it give a VM for an OS as old as Windows 98 the right internet adapter and immediately it would connect to the internet, generally to whatever network my host computer uses so I can assume that in Windows XP as well as some earlier Windows operating systems some components of internet connection are automatic.
8. “Office is Office and then Some” This one is also stupid. If Office is the same on Mac as it is Windows, then why switch when you already have Office on Windows? Oh, but Office on Mac improves on its Windows counterpart. Yeah, how?
9. “It Works Effortlessly With PCs” Sure, but if every Windows user switches to a Mac, this point becomes completely redundant. What’s the use of ensuring compatiability with PCs if you want every PC user to switch to Mac? This should be a reason to get a Mac in the first place instead of switching to one.
10. “It’s Beautiful” ...And ergonomic as well, apparently. Haha, no. Not with a single-button mouse and not with the massive af box that is the iMac. Not when PCs were starting to get the thin external monitors allowing you to set them up even on smaller desk spaces. Oh yeah, and the towers are easier to maintain. As for beauty, PCs have it too, including it in the software as well as the hardware, and in the sounds as well as the graphics. Ever heard the beautiful music that plays in the Windows XP Tour? My favourite is the music for Safe and Easy Personal Computing. What about the large variety of system sounds that play whenever something happens? What about the cute doggo that appears when you search for your files? If that isn’t beauty, then I dunno what is.
These “reasons” to switch to a Mac are so dumb and stupid and also prove that Apple knew very little about PCs when they worte that shit other than maybe the blue screen of death that has a chance of appearing a lot.

There’s been a lot of encouraging news in the face of absolute disaster lately. None of it really applies to anybody but me. So I have been living that reality to the best of my ability. It hasn’t been without missteps. Things feel even more fucked up than they were in the world let alone life. For me society trends downward when I shut the door. So I’ve been focusing on improving my surroundings. My kitchen has officially become my office. Google announced their employees were working from home until the end of the year. Facebook threw its hands up and said forever. My situation is far more complex but doing my job depends on the internet. I upgraded my router back in April at the first hint of all of this. Slowly I’ve been building up the infrastructure around here to support me being able to do my job. I upgraded my internet and finally got a home phone number linked to a 312 area code. I’ve been relying on package delivery for a good month and a half. The amount of packages I’ve had stolen has dwindled. Yesterday the Stussy drop from Dover Street Market was misdelivered. The day before they wouldn’t drop it off without a signature. I had to flag down the fed ex truck on the corner. I walked them back to the address explaining that I had to be vigilant due to gang activity. That morning when I put out the signature release one of the gang members from the block had talked to me. Mostly in passing about life. I’m pretty sure theirs is rougher than mine. But that’s the upfront and transparent life I live. Having to be up front and center with people at all times nobody what emotions I feel inside. I wore a mask when I approached the fed ex truck. When I walked them back they discovered they had delivered both packages for my address to the neighbor. So I killed two birds with one stone though my neighbor would never know. I woke up Sunday morning to a pigeon completely ripped apart on my porch. I can’t tell if it was the cats or something else. I cleaned it up at eight in the morning regardless. Finally just decided to clean and minimize the porch for the summer. I had a refurbished shark robot vacuum delivered by UPS that same day. They texted my phone and I ran out to grab it. The guy thanked me for being fast. I plugged it in and set up the app on my phone. The splash screen showed a clean, neutral home. Lurking in the background picture was my router. I let the thing run for an hour. It picked up dust I never knew existed. My cat is bewildered and afraid. Much like most of the neighborhood is when my name comes up in conversation. What is he like? What does he do? Is he single? No. No. And no. Do I get things delivered on time? I get them in the end. I ran around the neighborhood in the Nike X Stussy drop after my works hours yesterday. I almost got run over twice. The shirt says increase the peace. I guess I struck a nerve. And yet people have been walking over me for years. The embarrassing part is now everybody sees just how much and in what context. And people are reasonably scared because as calm as I seem if they were in my shoes it would be different. They would break down. They would collapse. My credit score went up a hundred points this week. That’s some encouraging news. Cash positive is a good look. Too bad our president isn’t.
Money seems to be all that is important to people these days. How much you spend. What deals you make and steals you uncover. I try to play that game sometimes. I’ve saved a lot of money over the last few months. Locked down. I’ve improved my health, my cooking skills, my body tone, and my video game performance. I just pieced out the first stage of a new desktop. A mid sized microatx ryzen. The first PC I’ve built in over a decade. My goal is to play wow at the maximum settings on my TV. More so like the phone, I’d just rather have my own computer for home. My watch has organized a lot of my appointments and responsibilities in a low key way. Much how I continue to live my life. Low key. This is not to say I feel trapped between two huge plates of metal. The one grind where I’m not good or important enough to pay attention to in real life. The other grind where people use me as a bait or decoy to trick people. Neither of those cases treat me like a human being. I have been hurt so much by this process that I have transcended to a point where I don’t bother much with society. And yet society still expects so much out of me. I ordered my Jacobin magazines for Mayday. I might sit out on my porch, drink tea and read them by myself. But nobody ever engages me in a way that’s respectful. It’s all trick after trick. Scam after scam. Hushed back talk and shadowed praise. I am fucking invisible. Nobody cares about me. If they do, they aren’t able to show it. And there’s only a few people I love enough to understand that relationship deeply. The rest of the world is empty to me aside from animals and gardening. I should be so much more. And somehow looking back to the last decade I am. It’s just not of value to anyone but me. And I’m not really interested in taking another step backwards to show how genuine and truthful I am. The embarrassing thing is while people gave the most vile people the pass because they were more famous or pretty I suffered. Over and over and over again. To the point where whatever it was people were chasing after seemed meaningless to me. I tried so hard to get back on track. And then I did. And I took a look around and it frightens me. Nobody knows the value of anything beyond money. And I’ve held a job consistently for twenty years. Paid taxes for twenty years. Grown actual competitive job skills for twenty years. Accrued a pension. Travelled the world. Networked all over the map. And I’m still here on tumblr every Saturday. Typing away as a warning. One that nobody really hears other than myself and my friends. Who I think have offered me a place to control my own narrative in the face of lies, bullshit, and selfishness. It all took work. Courage. Callous confrontation. A look in the mirror of what it is I could become. And what it is I am now. I don’t really know. I deserve to know. I deserve to be loved, respected and treated like a valuable human being. I know I am not.
For the record, I’m Tim. I fucking hate politics. I am an adult who has seen more of my time wasted and freedom siphoned. And I also live in America. A place where people tell me to stay indoors and shut the door. A place where if you come knocking with a warrant you better be wearing a mask. A place where I pay it forward enough and keep a high enough profile to avoid awkward conversations like that. And yet space is still encroached on. I am for the record enjoying the territorial markings. I’ve carved out a very special place for myself in the third most populated city in America next to LA and New York. I was thinking about heading to LA for a day sometime. A lot of my friends out there are in the same ecosystem. And yet the internet has kept us all together regardless. Tied and knitted together by the stories, art, fashion and ideals we felt important to share with each other. We are a community in and of itself. The community that I pay forward to and have seen so many great things happen in my life. Free thinking and independent minds linked like block chain when it comes to the latest drops or rare trivia related to science, anime or that little horny fucking skeleton guy you people draw. People are always failing at engaging us. And so we fall back to our dead platform and seeth in our collective anger sometimes. Other times life goes on and we post another picture. I post the same picture every once and awhile to let everybody know how much of a nerd I am. And also how romantic I think I am when everybody tells me I don’t exist and could never connect with anyone. I’m not good enough. Handsome enough. Young enough. Happy enough. For the record, people lie to discourage you. They talk behind your back because they’re afraid of the competition. They’re afraid of having to work as hard as you. Suffer as a horribly as you in silence. They have no plan other than being negative. Playing dirty tricks. Playing people against each other. Using discontent, anger, division against their own people for the sake of consolidating power. I’ve written about it in anguish for years. And people just don’t listen. I do. I act on things creatively. I think on my toes. When the package doesn’t get delivered I don’t sit and wonder why. I go out there and get it. When the test of time is withstood. It’s me sitting there with a faint smile on my face and a knowing look. It’s been a long time. And as long as I’m around you know what consistency looks like. And maybe what forever has the potential to be. Me and you. Not me, you and the rest of society constantly knocking on our door asking for milk and sugar. What will the neighbors think if I don’t answer? That my time is more valuable spent with you. A long time of no regrets. Just forward thinking and self care. And a humidifier in the bedroom. Speaking of clearing the air. <3 Tim

3 THINGS I NEED FOR IRIS WEST IN SEASON 4 OF ‘THE FLASH’ NERD BUBBLE, POP CULTURE, PUBLISHEDAUGUST 7, 2017BY PINK BUBBLE TEAM *This article contains major spoilers for season 3 (and 4) of The Flash.
After the emotionally gripping ending to season 3 of The Flash, I’m happy to say that I, along with Iris West (Candice Patton), made it out alive. It wasn’t looking good for either of us for a minute there. Iris West’ life was being threatened by Savitar, Barry Allen’s demented time remnant from the future. And me? Well, I wasn’t sure that I could survive The Flash‘s producers killing off my favorite character. Even though Iris survived, the finale was still bitter sweet because of Barry “indefinitely” entering the speed force to save Central City.
But just as “there is no Flash without Iris West” there is no show without The Flash. That love-struck son of a gun will be back within the first few episodes of season 4 at the latest, and SPOILER ALERT: he and Iris will skip off into the sunset, get married and eventually have beautiful babies. All of these things make my fangirl heart swell, but before Iris West becomes the wife of Barry Allen and mother of their children, I need a few things to happen.
Here are three things I want for Iris West in season 4 of The Flash.
Journalism Arc
Iris West has yet to reach her full potential as a reporter, despite the fact that she’s been employed by Picture News for over two and a half years. Since Iris’s burgeoning journalism career is no longer convenient to the plot, the writers have struggled to consistently fit it into the storyline. I understand that Iris is not the focus of the show, but she is the female lead. It would be nice if the writers could find a way to weave her journalistic skills into the larger narrative, even if she never actually got her own arc.
It would be even better if the inclusion of Iris’ journalistic skills could run parallel to Barry/The Flash’s heroics. Instead of having her just be Barry’s emotional support in Star Labs, and having her writing career mostly play out off screen, these two things could intertwine to create a beautiful marriage.
Investigative journalism and crime-fighting are not that far removed from each other. Though Barry and Iris each use different means — he goes after criminals; she exposes them — they both have the same goal: to make Central City a little safer. There’s no reason that Barry Allen and Iris West shouldn’t be able to become a kick-ass crime fighting couple.
Iris could poke her nose into places it doesn’t belong to get leads on the metahumans. Barry could use her findings to locate and apprehend the bad guys and keep her safe if she gets into trouble. Right now, the show mostly relies on Cisco Ramon‘s (Carlos Valdes) tech/hacking knowledge and vibing skills to get leads on the meta humans. But it doesn’t have to. Remember the beginning of season 3 when Iris gained access to the city’s traffic cameras? She obviously has connections. The writers need to let her utilize them. There is no reason that Iris shouldn’t be on the phones, tracking people down and looking for clues.
I am, in no way, implying that Iris is useless. She’s the most useful person on the show if you admit that the title character literally can’t be who he is without her. There’s also the fact that these shows are not self-contained. Just because we don’t get to see more of Iris’ journalism career doesn’t mean that it isn’t happening. The point is that there’s no reason that we shouldn’t see it. As far as whether we will see it? If Candice Patton’s comments to Entertainment Weekly are to be believed, then this point will be on my wish-list for some time.
Real Friends
Since it’s highly likely that Barry and Iris will wed sometime during season 4, that means that Iris will, at some point, have a bachelorette party. From what I’ve gathered from online spoilers and episode synopses, Iris’s female companions will include Felicity Smoak (Arrow), Cecile (Joe’s girlfriend) and Joanie (Cecile’s daughter).
Don’t get me wrong, Felicity is lovely, but she and Iris are not friends. Felicity was nowhere to be found during the back half of season 3 when Iris’ life hung in the balance. Why? Felicity is and has always been Barry‘s friend, which makes her and Iris acquaintances. Last time I checked, acquaintances don’t get invited to bachelorette parties.
Then there’s Cecile and her daughter, Joanie. It’s nice that Iris and Cecile’s relationship is progressing, but I think it’s weird that Iris will be partying with her father’s girlfriend and her barely legal daughter. If Joe and Cecile ever marry, then Cecile and Joanie will become Iris’ family, so they should definitely be a part of the wedding festivities. Their presence at Iris’ bachelorette party seems inappropriate, however.
Iris should be able to let her hair down and enjoy her last night as a single woman with friends in her age range. Sadly, Iris doesn’t have any. Though Iris was building a relationship with Linda Park (Malese Jow) in season 1 and part of season 2, Linda’s character has all but been written off of the show. And Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker)? Forget about it. I can’t support a friendship between Iris and Caitlin until they have a serious conversation about her major role in Iris’ almost-death last season (which I’ll get to later). Long story short, Iris needs a friend (outside of Barry Allen) to vent to about her job, life, and, of course, her relationship. Iris Needs To Confront Caitlin/Killer FrostI don’t want to get to into the things that I didn’t like about season 3, but I do want to address the writers’ decision to not allow Iris to feel a broad range of emotions when it came to her impending death. She was distraught when Barry broke the news to her, and definitely experienced a bad case of FOMO in a later episode, but that was about it. She never went through denial or anger. We got to see Barry lash out at people over the fear of losing Iris. But Iris, who should have felt more anger than anyone — at the hand she’d been dealt and some of the key players in the card game — was denied that right. She barely batted an eye when she found out that Savitar was Barry’s crazed time-remnant with abandonment issues. Though the writers made it clear that Savitar and Barry were two separate entities, it would have been perfectly acceptable for Iris to doubt Barry‘s love for her, even momentarily. Finding out that Savitar was basically a clone of the man she wanted to marry warranted more of an emotional response than the writers allowed.Moreso, I’m peeved at the way the writers handled Iris’ reaction to Caitlin/Killer Frost actively trying to kill her. Iris and Caitlin are not best friends, but being that they’ve spent nearly every episode together in Star Labs, there should at least be some deep seeded respect between them. The fact that she so easily left the team to help Savitar disappointed me as a viewer. It should have at least upset Iris. Instead, any emoting Iris did in relation to Caitlin was sympathetic to her plight. It’s beautiful that Iris has a spirit of forgiveness and empathy for the woman who wanted her dead, but I’d like to see her address other emotions as well. Caitlin/Killer Frost aided Savitar in his pursuit to kill Iris, which means that she was an accomplice. If he had succeeded, she would have gone down for her murder as well. That’s not something to be taken lightly, no matter what kind of power-induced haze she was in.I don’t know what the writers have in store for Caitlin Snow/Killer Frost in season 4, but I’m hoping that it includes a satisfying redemption arc (since it’s clear she’s not going anywhere) that allows her to make up for her actions.*Some version of Caitlin Snow is present in the teaser trailer, which means that she’s been accepted back to the team, which hey — fine. But I’m going to need Iris to be allowed to have a real conversation with Caitlin where she expresses explicit negative emotions over what Caitlin did. Otherwise, any interaction they have in season 4 will leave a bad taste in my mouth.[Featured Image: The CW]If you liked this article, please consider supporting Pink Bubble Magazine by SHARING this article on social media, donating to our Patreon Account or purchasing an item from our Red Bubble Shop! 🙂
