There's only one way to show affection. Physical.
Touching, kissing, making love. Acts of passion. Huddling together for warmth, survival. Caleb knew them all. Had engaged in all these affections with Astrid and 'Wulf. Had enjoyed it.
Then he broke... And affection no longer existed. There was no touching. No physical contact. Even when he broke out, touch made his skin crawl. Paralyzed him with fear. Made him want to retch and claw his skin off until he could no longer feel.
But when a little goblin girl took his hand for the first time to place a piece of gold in it, he learned that stealing was another form of affection. She showed him love when she stole books and paper for him. When she stole gold itself so he could have his ink and components with the illusion of morality. And Caleb was at peace knowing there was another form of affection, one that wasn't tied to immediate bad memories.
Then there was Beauregard. Her form of affection was also physical. But not the kind he's used to. This wasn't a desperate, heady thing. This was punches to the shoulder as a way to check in, as an admonishment, as a form of excitement. This was an arm slung around his shoulder so she could ruffle his hair. This was excited slaps to his arms whenever he or his magic did something "cool." It was through her that he learned the affections of a sister.
Finally, there was Essek Thelyss. This was a completely different and yet wholly familiar form of affection. The intimacy of sharing spells, of being allowed to hold and touch and view a powerful and capable mage's spellbook. The affection that filled his body when Essek spoke nervously with the Nein, feet dangling in the hot tub. When he spoke passionately about unlocking mysteries and delving deeper. The affection for Essek began to burn, like Caleb's preferred element, like the whiskey mixed in cocoa from their time in Aeor. Different and familiar. Memories of the past mingling with changes of the present. Yet wholly its own beautiful thing.
And now, near the end of this life, Caleb Widogast is proud to note that there are infinite ways to show affection. Each one perfect. Each one comforting. Caleb breathes a sigh of relief, knowing that he will never be trapped in one form of affection ever again.

IF WE MEET EACH OTHER IN HELL, IT'S NOT HELL II
solomon x gn!mc and how the brothers hate their relationship (holiday edition!) tw/cw: the brothers being jerks a bit, eating/food (valentine’s, thanksgiving, april fool’s), kissing (ew), very self-indulgent ngl, terrible writing, no beta we die like mc. please let me know if anything is missing.
everybody hates solomon...
the brothers – and occasionally the prince and his butler – were the only people you interacted with for a good while into the exchange program. considering your position as the average joe human and being especially vulnerable in comparison to the rest of the exchange students, diavolo had decided to house you separately. unintentionally, this resulted in a very late introduction to the angels and fellow human.
the demon brothers were quite content having you to themselves, but that couldn't last forever and it was more difficult seeing your very human-centric interactions with solomon than they ever could have expected.
at christmas time in the human world, your cheeks and ears suddenly blush a dark red when solomon reveals a small twig of a leafy plant with a cheeky flourish. he holds it high above the two of you before leaning down to place a small kiss on your lips, both of you smiling throughout the whole interaction. the twig is tossed aside as the two of you continue walking down the sidewalk, unaware of the confused onlookers and frustrated leviathan who mumbles, “this is why i never leave my room, stupid normies.” before shuffling home with his hands shoved in his pockets.
(self-indulgence warning) on valentine’s day, the demons and angels rush around trying to find the best gifts, poorly avoiding suspicion when trying to determine your preferred flowers, chocolates, jewelry, and dates. on that day, you’re bombarded with various devildom flora, any type of chocolate in any shape they could get their hands on, and a gigantic stuffed black cat shark. as politely as you can, you accept bouquets of flowers that most likely are deadly to your species and chocolate with flavors that threaten your sanity with a smile and “that’s so considerate of you.” conversely, solomon waltzes in nonchalantly, waiting his turn without complaint. once he’s given an opening, he places a gentle hand on your shoulder, offering a sympathetic smile after taking in your bounty. “mc,” he starts, revealing a small box of sour candy from the human world. “would you be my valentine?” you accept the present with a shy smile and a quiet, “you remembered…” none of the other men were knowledgeable enough about the human holiday to realize that you were supposed to ask the other person to be your valentine, until too late of course. when solomon is later asked, he reveals that you actually don’t like chocolate and flowers tend to trigger your allergies, but this particular candy had been your favorite since childhood.
the devildom doesn’t recognize the new year, being inhabited by ageless and almost immortal beings tends to take the charm out of yet another year passing by. lucifer dismisses your off-mood, commenting, “we have our own way of doing things here. now stop pouting and focus on your studying.” as much as you want to defend yourself, to say that you didn’t expect the day off in the first place and that they didn’t need to be so rude, you know it wouldn’t help your case. the brothers continue ignoring your absentmindedness for the rest of the day, until solomon knocks on the door much later than they would’ve expected. he’s immediately met with resistance from satan until you see who the late-night visitor is from the top of the stairs and rush down to calm the fourth-born and welcome solomon inside. in front of the fireplace of the common room, you find a clock to set on the table and two cups for the bottle that he had snuck inside. with a loud pop, the bottle is opened and he fills your cups with the bubbly drink. you both indulge with giddy delight, sharing stories of the past year and laughing heartily with flushed cheeks. when the clock’s arms reach 12:59, you both lean forward to start counting down, much to the annoyance of your housemates who still think you’re making much too big a deal of the new year. when the clock finally signals midnight, you face each other and share an intimate kiss. “happy new year,” you tell him in a quiet voice. “happy new year,” he repeats, pulling you back in to share another kiss. from the doorway, the demon brothers are left wishing they hadn’t dismissed the holiday so quickly without hearing you out.
when the end of november rolls around, the brothers offer very little assistance in your no-funny-business operation of the kitchen. upon your request, belphie and lucifer work together to keep beel away while you’re at work, though they don’t understand what exactly you’re doing. come dinner time, you’ve assembled your masterpiece, a spread filling the table of devildom and human world foods, all hearty and hot dishes to warm everyone in the colder months. you’ve invited solomon, simeon, and luke as well, much to the others’ disdain but they can’t bring themselves to complain after seeing what your hard work was for. bowls and plates are passed around for everyone to get their share except for the casserole that solomon had graciously brought, insisting that cooking a whole thanksgiving meal for eleven people was too much to ask of you. “mmhmnm?” “please don’t speak with food in your mouth, beel,” lucifer says from the head of the table. swallowing his mouthful, beel tries again, “thanksgiving?” you wave your hand, batting the question away but share a knowing smile with the only other human who had taken the seat next to you. “just a human holiday.” solomon reaches for your hand resting on the table and intertwines your fingers before leaning in to whisper into your ear. the brothers can’t tell what he’s saying but your cheeks tint and your smile widens all the more when you hear, “i’m thankful for you, every single day.”
on april first, you gain a conspiratorial aura that lasts until your shared class with the sorcerer and gives lucifer a headache that rivals those caused by satan’s pranks, but he can’t figure out exactly why. he later hears from barbatos that you had presented your deskmate with a caramel apple, only for it to turn out to be an onion inside. solomon seemingly laughed it off until you opened your textbook to find that every page had the text changed to “i love solomon” and his cause for laughter became much clearer. while the pranks were harmless and all in good fun, you two were still the only ones who understood why they happened on this particular day when you’d never pranked each other before. a truce was settled goodnaturedly, resulting in your seats pulled closer together to share the one usable textbook (nevermind that he easily could have reversed the spell and returned your own book to its original state, this was too good of an opportunity to get so close to you without someone else butting in).

i honestly believe that Professor Gale would somehow become the magical version of whatever educational show your teacher puts on in class when they don’t want to teach. like he just projects himself into the classroom and yaps about magic all class. just a wizard bill nye the science guy. he loves talking about magic so much you KNOW he’d be down to do it if somebody asked him to.
imagine being a student at blackstaff academy. you walk into your abjuration class and there’s a purple see through man standing in front of the class wearing funky robes and doing dorky little gestures. you know it’s gonna be a good class when the teacher busts out the mirror image dude. like yeah sure technically he saved baldurs gate and all that, but why are you asking him about that? he brought a drawing of his cat with him and he’s here to tell you all about how to cast mage armour

Idk if you're up to it, but any fun facts about Wolfe? He (they?) seems like such a cool, funky dude! I love him and Elliott and Rosemary!
Ah! I'm so sorry for taking so long to reply to this, some mental and physical health stopped me from doing much as of late. But I'm getting to it now and seriously thank you so much for asking!!!! I love getting to talk about my silly farmer guy :D(and don't worry, he/him is great for him, but like myself they/them can also work but he/him mainly)
Wolfe is, of course, based a little on myself, but I'm trying to differentiate him from myself a bit more every now and then. One of the things that I based on me that I'm always keeping is that he frequently wears tinted glasses. This is due to photophobia, or light sensitivity, I think it's just a fun little thing to share with him :) Also just wearing glasses in general (I've also entered my cowboy hat era in game, yeehaw)
As for more things about Wolfe himself, he's a pretty chill guy despite being anxious as hell. He was almost a marine biologist, but dropped out before getting his degree due to stress and money, so getting his grandpa's farm was a great way for him to basically try again with it all. Because of this he takes any time to fish and tell other towns people about fish.
A more recent thing that kind of happened by chance, I decided his hair is just green now :]. This happened because two things, one, I like to change up his appearance in game and art depending on how I'm feeling at the time, but this time I just wanted to keep it green but shorter, and two(more of the reason), I play with a mod to replace the baby sprites ingame with different ones with pallets to match other characters in game, so I randomized it for both(scrolled through options randomly) and got Harvey for Rosemary but Caroline for their second kid Finn. So with that, Wolfe now has permanently green hair because of his constant usage of magic and maybe over exposure to green rain haha. One day he will become green Wizard.
Thank you again for asking!!!!! It really does make my day :D (also sorry was gonna draw Elliott as well but my brain said not today, I'm struggling with drawing in general at the moment)
#ask#there's probably more but my brain is so scrambled right now this is the best I can do#stardew valley#art

OKAY FOOLS HOW YALL DOING IM BACK AFTER BEING DEAD FOR LIKE MONTHS-
See, I had a Thought which the Merlin fandom might be interested in. Especially the fanfic writers.
I was browsing Pinterest, as you do, and stumbled across a few tumblr posts instead of actually looking on the site… again, as you do.
And I came to a fun idea.
So y’know how with some pieces of fantasy media they go ‘oh with the amount of stupidity here this is totally a D&D game’?
Well… that, but Merlin.
Like we already have scenes that would totally fit the bill of a D&D game. The whole scene with old Merlin and the knights with the stepping stool onto the horse is just so unbelievably D&D, and I can imagine the scene with the “..reading poetry.” as just real bad persuasion/deception rolls from both Merlin AND Arthur.
Just imagine the chaos.
Here are my personal headcanons for their classes, but feel free to debate about it:
Merlin: Sorcerer. This man is too much of an idiot to be a wizard (though he DOES get hurt enough to be one), and I reckon being a wild magic sorcerer would totally fit the bill. He’s powerful, but hijinks must ensue- thus, the wild magic. Or perhaps not. People might assume it’s wild magic and turns out it’s just Merlin thinking he’s funny.
Arthur: Bard. Immediately. He’s got paladin energy as in like the ‘Chosen One’ and also he’s a knight, but he’s so stupid and also charismatic that he just gives bard to me. Like he’s so stupid and charismatic with literally everything, that Merlin ended up liking him. Like this man is a himbo that dresses brightly.
Morgana: Absolutely a warlock. She would have so much fun with eldritch blast, and being weird and spooky totally fits her vibe later in the series. She would probably be the one to sometimes have the braincell in the party and use her magic responsibly… but also eldritch blast. You gotta use eldritch blast-
Mordred: I don’t think he has chill enough vibes for the druid stereotype, but he definitely could be a druid. Giving funky nature powers to this kid would really be a hilarious idea. Like imagine Mordred with wild shape. I also think he has the possibility of being the Dionysus kind of druid… y’know, the greek god who turned people into dolphins just because? Yeah, him.
Gwaine: Barbarian. Or fighter. He may be a knight, sure, but with the amount of bar brawls he gets into? Absolutely. The fool definitely would fist fight someone in a dark alleyway at 2AM, it’s just what he’s like. He likes to hit people and drink alcohol- it just fits his whole MO.
Percival: Also a barbarian. His entire thing is strength, and the ‘little man’ comment just screams of a man with high intimidation. He may be a gentle giant and not going for the whole stereotype of angry rage beast, but this guy can totally scare without it.
Lancelot: Lancelot is a paladin. He’s the very epitome of ‘Good Boy.’ This guy is such a Righteous knight and just a generally cool person that I think that a god straight up WOULD get in contact to have him fight for the forces of good. I love this man so much. I also love paladins. Perfect combo.
Elyan: Elyan’s a cleric. He’s caring and loyal, as well as not bullying Merlin regularly. He’s also pretty cunning so possibly rogue there as well? I’d be more inclined to lean towards cleric the most though, cause he’s one of the most chill knights and also balances out the chaos of Gwaine and Percival as a duo… they’re nuts-
Leon: Also a paladin. Less of a ‘pure and true soul’ guy like Lancelot, but more of a ‘stands for what’s right and upholds the law’ kind of paladin. Like he’s totally a follower of chivalry with all the traditional ways of doing things- always respectful and polite but just kinda a little at arms length.
Guinevere: Stereotypical druid. Totally a tree-hugger and loves plants. Also she gets to be a Disney princess now and talk to animals in forests. Living out her best life in the forest with her whole cottagecore aesthetic. Even with her becoming queen, she’s totally still a druid. Albeit a royal one now.
Gaius: Oh he’s so gonna be an artificer. But specifically an alchemist artificer. He can make healing potions and mix weird medicines together, sure, but jesus christ the old man gets into just as many shenanigans as the main group. I mean, the whole possession fiasco with the goblin is enough proof for that-
(And before anyone tells me a character’s missing, it’s been a while since I watched the series, I’m trying my best hhhh-)
#merlin#bbc merlin#dnd#dnd campaign#dnd headcanons#merlin headcanons#dnd merlin crossover#headcanon#joke headcanon#fandom#merlin fandom#yes we’re still alive#we’re just lying in wait#like arthur- gkghkgkgkgk#but yeah these are my opinions

I saw the wicked national tour today and I have Thoughts
Bear in mind that I did see it on broadway eight years ago. That being said, my memory of it is a little fuzzy because I was 12 and didn't know the story going in.
The costume & set design?? oh my god. The costumes were so funky and very very Oz. And the sets were amazing!! Since it's an official tour of the show, it was very similar to the one on broadway, but still. It's been 20 years and wicked stays having amazing design.
I cried. At the very beginning. Little thing about me, I cry at the opening numbers of live theatre. I was fighting off tears for the entirety of no one mourns the wicked, but the second Elphaba showed up on stage, the tears came DOWN. I love her so much
Glinda and Elphaba, and the whole cast, really, were amazing!! Elphaba was played by Olivia Valli, Frankie Valli's granddaughter, and she was incredible! And Celia Hottenstein had amazing vocals (and was honestly quite hilarious) as Glinda! She had me laughing out loud. Just a really phenomenal cast
Boq was so silly in act 1. His actor, Kyle McArthur, just had this energy to him and I was always looking at him when he was onstage during the shiz scenes
This is kinda unrelated, but during the shiz scenes, I couldn’t stop thinking of a ride the cyclone production where the choir is dressed like shiz students. It would be fun I think
My crush, or whatever it is, on Fiyero is going on eight years strong. I don't know, I'm aroace, and I know I'm not INTO him, but oh do I love that idiot. It's not romantic or sexual attraction, but a secret third thing. My feelings for Fiyero Tigelaar and Han Solo do keep me on my toes as an aroace
I literally shook my mom's arm when Fiyero came onstage for the first time.
I spoke about the sets, but the Emerald City was gorgeous. The bright, green lights made my jaw drop. The wizard mask...thingy...was pretty unnerving, but I think that was what they were going for. Just. Emerald City appreciation post
I almost cried again, this time during defying gravity. Honestly, I had goosebumps for the majority of the show
My heart was fluttering during as long as your mine. I am and always will be a fiyeraba girly
During curtain call, Elphaba and Fiyero made a funny face at each other. I don't know how to describe it but they were like 😗 except their backs were almost facing each other, so they were facing in opposite directions, but still making that face at each other. I may have to draw this out one day
I loved this show so so much. It was amazing and I’m so grateful that my mom was able to come out to where I go to college and take me 💕

Chapter 2
Warnings: Mentions of break in, slight physical abuse, Readers under 18 can read this book. It is solely fluff- nothing sexual
Copyright: I do not own any Wizarding World characters that J.K. Rowling wrote. I do however own Elizabeth Kane (main character) and Trang Nyguen (best friend). There should be no use of these two names without my permission. I also do not condone any copying of this.
.❤️.
"𝕯𝖆𝖉?" 𝕴 𝖈𝖆𝖑𝖑𝖊𝖉 as I walked inside the house. There was no answer. He must still be out. Full moon had been last night and he usually traveled so that he was far away from Muggles and other human beings. I rushed upstairs so that I could change and have dinner ready before he came home.
I'd gotten the job at the snack bar a few days ago and I was full of excitement. Of course, Dad didn't know but that was alright. I could slip the money into the money jar every so often and he wouldn't notice. Well, hopefully he didn't notice. There were a lot of holes in my plan.
I got into Muggle shorts and a tank top. I quickly checked Dad's room to see if he'd possibly fallen asleep. He wasn't in there- but I hadn't ever really thought he was. Then I leaped back down the stairs and went into the kitchen.
We didn't have much left in the cupboards. I was going to have to go grocery shopping tomorrow before work. No wait, after work because if I bought meat, eggs, and milk that would go bad waiting in the sun while I was working. Yes, I'd go after work was over.
I threw something together, not really paying attention. Dad still wasn't home when I was finished and I started to get worried. He was usually home by now. I looked out all the windows. It was starting to get dark and there was no sign of him. He was usually back before the sun set and it was nearly down.
I put lids over the pots so the heat would stay in and keep the food warm, and went out the front door. I walked a little ways towards Trang's house and then walked back the opposite direction. There was no sign of him.
The uneasy feeling in my stomach grew more profound. Had a ministry Wizard or Witch seen him last night? He wasn't a registered Werewolf, almost no one registered themselves voluntarily. It wasn't mandatory for him to be registered either, so he wasn't breaking any laws. . .but still. . .why was he taking forever to come home?
There had never been a problem before, he was always home before it got dark out so that I was never worried. He knew I would be worrying.
I went back to the house and called out for him again. There was no answer- he hadn't come home while I was out. It was nearly dark, the sun had almost completely set. Then the door opened some minutes later and I rushed to it before skidding to a stop. It wasn't dad.
The man was tall and pale with blue eyes. His hair was curly and long, perhaps a bit past his ears. He had stubble under his jaw and chin. He was wearing a black buttoned down shirt, looking a bit like the type of guy in a movie that's good looking but the villain. He looked slightly surprised to see me and quickly covered it up with a scowl.
"Who are you?" I demanded angrily, though in reality I was scared.
"Alright look, I have no need to hurt a little girl like you. Sit down and we won't have any problems" He sneered. He wasn't British, he had a thick Scandinavian accent. Why the heck was he here?
Robber, I thought. Lovely. He strode towards me. I took a step back. He lunged at me and instinctively, I raised my knee towards his groin. He grunted in pain and his arm came down across my face.
I yelled and fell to the floor. I had never been hit before and though I had always expected it to hurt, the pain still came as a shock. My cheek was throbbing.
"Stupid kid." He muttered, standing back. There was something funky about his movements. "You weren't supposed to be home."
"It's not like my dad has anything valuable." I snapped, standing up quickly. "So get out." I could feel my cheek throbbing. It was going to need ice quickly or it was going to swell up and leave a mark.
He laughed, brushing me aside. "Old houses like these always have something valuable. Something passed down through families generation by generation. Something that, even though they live in a crappy house, don't want to sell for a couple thousand bucks because its a family heirloom. You know what an heirloom is little girl?"
"Of course I do." I snapped. "I'm not stupid." God I sounded childish. We didn't have valuables. We didn't have heirlooms.
He attempted to grab my wrist and I punched him in the gut. Since I was in the corner, I took the advantage to dart under his arm and run for the door.
"I don't think so." I felt pain shoot through my scalp and fell backwards. I gritted my teeth so I didn't scream.
He grabbed my arm and yanked me off the floor and threw me onto the couch. "Now just stay there. No funny business."
I gritted my teeth, waiting for him to turn around so I could make a run for it. If I could get into my dad's bedroom and get the door closed, I could lock it and climb out the window onto the roof. The door was made of solid oak. He wouldn't be able to get through it very easily unless he had a chainsaw.
Did he have any weapons? That would make escaping much harder if he had a gun. He seemed clumsy though. He could miss his shot. Was I willing to take the chance? I tried to think through escape routes and different possible scenarios logically. Or, as logically as a ten year old could think through it anyways.
If only I had a wand I could stun him. Of course, I didn't know the stunning spell or the killing spell or really any spells at all. Dad rarely used magic around the house, letting me do chores by hand.
He turned around, scanning the shelves, but kept glancing over his shoulder every millisecond to see if I was still there. I settled into the couch, it was going to be a long night. Or, I could speed this up. I sat forward. I really didn't learn from my mistakes. I was a very stubborn child.
"Like I said, my dad doesn't have anything, so clear out." I said, standing up. I crossed my arms.
He crossed the room and towered over me. He was extremely annoyed. He also must've been about six feet. He took my by the shoulders and shook me. "Damn it kid. You don't know what you're talking about."
Stupidly, I kicked him in the knees and he threw me to the floor. I felt my glasses fall off and heard them break. Oh, bloody hell.
My left eye was a little blurry but my right eye was still clear and I looked around for my glasses. They were underneath the couch. I didn't need them to see, only to read. I glared up at him. "Stupid robber." I mimed him under my breath. Apparently, he heard me.
His face turned purple with anger. He took two steps towards me, his fist raised, and then I heard, "GET THE HELL AWAY FROM MY DAUGHTER."
I looked over to my left and saw Dad standing there with his wand pointed at the man. His face was red and his hair was windswept as though he'd run fast to get here. I'd never seen him so angry.
The man laughed at him, "And what are you going to do with that twig, mister." He bent over me, grabbing my hair and pulling me to my feet. I threw my hands up instinctively to grab my own hair and yelled out in pain, squeezing my eye shut. What a knee jerk reaction. Squeezing your eyes shut didn't stop you from feeling pain. I could feel a motion from his body as though he was reaching into his jacket pocket.
He's going to pull a knife, isn't he, I thought. He didn't have time.
"STUPEFY." Dad yelled. The man let go of me and fell to the floor, stunned. Dad stormed over, pointing his wand at the man, hesitating.
Then he turned to me, taking a few steps forward, "Are you alright? How did he get in the house?"
I got to my feet uneasily, shaking. I fell into him and his arms wrapped around me securely. I'd never felt more safe in my entire life than right now which was funny because I was shaking from fright. "I left the door open, I went looking for you. I didn't know if you were hurt or not. I must've left the door unlocked. I'm so sorry." I sobbed, openly crying now. I'd never been so scared in my entire life which was funny because I felt safe.
"It's alright." He murmured, smoothing my hair and I hiccupped and did my best to stop my tears. "Everything's fine."
I pulled away gently, sitting down on the couch. I wiped my cheeks, embarrassed. My knees were still shaking. "Can I have some ice?" I asked. "For my cheek?"
Lupin went into the kitchen and brought me back ice. I put it on my cheek. Lupin looked at my cheek, observing the bruising. "It'll be fine. It'll probably clear up in a day or two if you keep the ice on your face. Remember you have to alternate it every twenty minutes."
I nodded, closing my eyes. I was suddenly very tired. "Dinners on the stove." I murmured. Then I drifted to sleep.
.❤️.
𝕴 𝖜𝖔𝖐𝖊 𝖚𝖕 in my bedroom a little disoriented. Bless dad, he must've carried me up here. He shouldn't have. He was going to end up hurting his back. I sat up slowly in bed, squinting at the alarm clock. 10:01. Crap, if I didn't get a move on I was going to be late for work.
I threw aside my covers and quickly got dressed in denim jeans and a T-shirt. I slipped my feet into my flip-flops. Turning around, I quickly made my bed.
Rushing downstairs, I found my dad in the kitchen. Well crap, I hadn't thought about him being home today.
He looked up over his tea. "Oh good, you're awake."
I didn't respond to his smile. "I am so, so sorry about last night. I was such an idiot. I was thinking of other things and I just left the door unlocked and I'm so sorry." Tears rose up in my eyes again and I turned away quickly. How immature of me. I was ten for Merlin's sake. I shouldn't be crying anymore.
I heard dad get up from his chair and his arms went around me. Slowly, he settled back in the chair and I was sitting on his lap like I was five. But suddenly the bothersome idea of immaturity disappeared. I was safe.
"You don't need to apologize." He said. "Everyone makes mistakes, and everyone learns from them. I don't want there to be any tension between us so I need to talk to you about something else as well."
I nodded. I moved my face so that my chin rested on his shoulder.
He sighed and then said, "When were you going to tell me that you had gotten a job at the pool?"
I cringed. "Never." I answered truthfully.
"Why?" He sounded almost amused and I took this to be a good sign.
"Well. . . you didn't want me to get a job." I said. "But I was worried because you had lost your job and I wanted to bring in a little money, at least until you got a job. I know you're worried about my studies but I'm keeping up with them, I swear. Plus, once I get my Hogwarts letter and my booklist and I get the books I'll start studying those too. I promise that I will. I just wanted to help and I'm sorry I did it behind you're back."
Dad openly laughed. "Well at least you're being honest now. But Elizabeth, no more secrets alright."
I scowled but he didn't see it. "Okay then, where were you last night?"
He sighed, the good humor gone. "The pool manager stopped me on the way home last night. Wanted to talk all about the good work you're doing in the snack bar."
I looked at him, "Now tell me the real reason."
"I'm being dead serious." He said, even though I knew he wasn't. Even with this lecture about honesty he wasn't going to tell me.
"Dad!" I half laughed, pulling at his shirt.
He stood up and swung me around, setting my feet back down on the floor and bopping me on the nose. "I am being serious. Now then, you have work today, correct?"
"Yes."
"Alright, hurry up and get to work then. Connections are important and references are even more important in the future." Dad sipped his tea, "I should know."
I grinned at him, glad this conversation had gone in a good direction, though I was curious about what he was hiding. I hurried into the kitchen and helped myself to the eggs and bacon that was still on the stove. I poured steaming hot water into a cup and added a tea bag. Looking in cupboards for sugar and honey I asked, "Hey dad, what did you do with the man last night?"
"Nothing that he didn't deserve." There was that hard note of anger was in his voice again. And yet, there was something thoughtful on his face.
I refrained from asking anymore questions about the man. I looked at myself in the mirror while setting the plate down. The bruise on my face looked weeks old. Dad probably did some healing spells or put some medicine on it while I had slept.
I scarfed down the food and put the dishes in the sink. "I'm going grocery shopping after I get off work, okay?" I asked, bending down and kissing him on the forehead.
"Sure, but be safe, okay?" He asked, his brow furrowing. "Maybe take Trang or Kat along with you."
"Right!" I said, and I hurried out the door. I looked up at the bright yellow sun. Today was going to be an amazing day.
If only dad would tell me what was going on.

Hey, do you have any recs for long form, more serious ttrpg systems for fantasy settings? I feel like I hear a lot about short/definitively-lengthed systems, but I've been yearning for a DnD-esque system without all the baggage of equip loads and complicated Challenge Ratings and other rules-y baggage I don't super care about.
do i! do i ever!
serious & long-form systems do on the whole tend to be crunchier than shorter systems (not always, but generally); nevertheless, i've picked out a........ handful......... ok there's Several, i did try to control and limit myself but u kno.......... games......... anyway, here are some that are considerably less crunchy than d&d but still lend themselves to long fantasy campaigns.
uh. under the cut for. oh god it's so long. it's so long. tried my best to explain them, u see. (which is also why it took me so long to reply lol, sry abt that)
godeater (& godeater 2.0): play in a broken, post-apocalyptic fantasy world, where dead and dying gods warp the land, and you raid their bodies for divine magic to help support humanity. 2d10-based, get weird & funky with it! i admit a small preference for version 1.0, which gave u some loose examples but left much of the worldbuilding and even character building up to u to create; 2.0 has some extra books that go with it that i haven't much looked into yet, but seem to give more solid lore to work with, if u would like that.
when the guilds pay in copper, crime pays in gold: alchemical guilds pay shit wages to use people for magical experiments. go do crimes on 'em with your own magic. d6 base, assign dice to stats to make ur own dice pool; fairly light rules and in fact very little in the way of instruction or hard lore on the gm's side, so better played with an experienced gm who's good at making their own stuff, but certainly campaign material for the right gm!
third empire - violence + beauty: the world sucks, and has sucked for a while, through two oppressive empires and into a third one. you play adventurers who are trying to carve out a little goodness, a little justice, a little vengeance, in the world. y'know. lasers & feelings based, but expanded beyond the original (which also comes with it if u get it!) into more lore, more character choices, very collaborative worldbuilding, downtime mechanics, etc etc.
ruby radiance 6e: streamlined dungeoneering built to let ppl play the way actual play podcasts sound, essentially. d20 pool system, based on trophy mechanics but v much adjusted. lots of choices to make during character creation & leveling, but much much less to keep track of during the playing part. u get it.
wizard pals: all of you are wizards, going on adventures and trying to accomplish your goals in a fantasy world. d12-based, fairly lighthearted (can lean silly but u could use it for more serious if not super grimdark adventures), much worldbuilding left up to the gm, but very simple rules, so.
grimblade rpg: (speaking of grim lol,) action & adventure in a grim fantasy world; things like character creation and rewards (and magic) fully imply a fantasy world, but worldbuilding is left up to the gm, altho there are many tables to roll on to give some help. uses d4, 6, 8, and 10; all rolls are contested rolls, with dice picked based on how serious the gm feels this roll is.
shattered aether: post-apocalyptic science fantasy, you roam around a fucked up magic world and protect ppl from various dangers. 2d6 based, based on the lumen system so fairly combat-forward in a very high-action very cool asskicking way. for some reason the font chosen for this book is murder on my eyes, but if u can get past that (or just zoom in lots and read a bit at a time) it's straightforward, simple, and fun!
familiars of terra: this one may be a little too crunchy, but i love it a lot and rly the most crunch is in character creation and tracking experience, actual gameplay is (imo) pretty easy. post-post-apocalyptic fantasy world, some science fantasy elements depending on where you choose to focus, bcos there are absolute PAGES of lore on this extremely cool and enormous world; you and your party go around with your soul-bonded animal friends to spread hope and healing and also do cool shit. y'know. card-based, again it is probably more crunchy than ur looking for but less abt tracking what you can do during things and more abt tracking experience in order to level up stats, so.
1400 quest: ok that last one was crunchy, this one's very uncrunchy. pick a handful of things and get going! clearly inspired by d&d, but very very streamlined, so things that were pages of mechanics are like, one or two sentences. gm's side of it is like, a handful of rollable tables and then do whatever, so prolly for the more experienced gm. d6 based, but you may have occasion to use other dice. also if you like this one there's others by the same author focusing on other things (1400 mage, sneak, etc), or you can check out others in the 24XX type of games, which started out sci fi but has since been expanded to a bunch of other stuff. u kno.
beast dream: pokemon-inspired game where you make friends with magical beasts and go on magical adventures! d6-based, forged in the dark, so there is a little crunch wrt deciding on position etc and stuff like stress, but the author rly wanted to focus in on letting u adventure and have fun without getting bogged down in numbers and i think that shows, stuff like load and reputation aren't so much a thing.
cognatons: play as sentient, magic-filled automatons doing whatever fantasy adventures your robot heart desires. d4-based, caltrop core, so you get a fairly simple & defined set of actions; less to keep track of, easy to follow.
dethrone the divine: you're gonna overthrow the gods, and also take their places. you're already either divine, semi-divine, or magically powerful in other ways, and you adventure with the goal of gathering power and followers so you can take the place of the shitty gods in power. d6-based, pretty straightforward system, makes characters v cool and powerful, which is always fun.
perilous: do you love dungeon crawls bcos i love dungeon crawls... streamlined and easy to understand fantasy dungeoneer adventures in this one! d20-based, leans towards tags instead of complicated numerical skill stuff to keep track of. go to dungeons, fight monsters, get treasure. simple n good. (adds in some metaplot, like who sent you, how will this affect the people living here, whatever, but rly strong with the very old core of d&d-style 'go do a dungeon' kinda thing, if that's what u like.)
high magic lowlives: ok my latest obsession bcos i'm currently planning a big ol campaign for friends in this one. there are classic adventurers in this world, out there cleaning out monster nests or whatever, but they're usually in the employ of the immortal aristocracy. you? you make your money by stealing from and humiliating the immortal aristocracy, because you're a lowlife. it's a dangerous gig, but isn't it better than going into student debt at wizard school? melds high fantasy aesthetics with like, magical twitch streaming aesthetics. fun as hell. uses all the dice and also sometimes tarot cards (mostly just for character creation, u kno). easy to understand rules, i'm having a great time.
ellipses rpg: setting-agnostic system (make ur own setting!) with simple, streamlined rules and an emphasis on improvisation. d20 based, rly just some very basic foundation and then a lot of encouragement to make things up and do what's fun. so like, loosey goosey & not super structured if you want structure, but could be fun!
unbound: setting-agnostic system but with much more formal structure, got structure around how to collaboratively worldbuild your setting and everything. obvs this means some crunch, but it's still not super crunchy, nice and straightforward rly. lotta character options but not so complex and math-heavy, u kno. card-based system. designed actually for a series of short campaigns in a linked world, tho, so if ur not up for exploring new characters a lot, may not be for you.
#algie talks ttrpgs#i have HUNDREDS of games u don't UNDERSTAND#tried to limit myself. took off some rly more urban fantasy or cyberpunk fantasy or noir fantasy or horror-focused.#took off some more crunchy ones tried to stay with the less crunchy.............#even the ones i took off are STILL not as full of useless-ass rules than d&d but i tried to go for ones with much less to keep track of#took off some ones that are perhaps not as easy for someone moving from d&d eg. gmless ones non-combat ones rly meta ones etc#and still it's like. sixteen here??? which obvs u cannot play all of them lmao#but anyway here u go i hope this helps!! i lov games#long post#just in case the readmore fucks up bcos it's moved itself like three times since i started drafting this

Furbies I Would Love to Have One Day:
(Or: My favorite furbies I found while browsing ebay and the furby wiki)
(images mostly from the first search engine results & the furby wiki)
1: A jester furby!
I mean, come on... They are oh so adorable!! The checker pattern, the pompoms, the magenta feet...But unfortunately I don't think I'll ever be able to have one since they're so ridiculously expensive 😔 Whilst getting a picture for this post I saw one going for over $600
2: Slightly more attainable, the Valentine's day Furby!
I lovveeee Valentine's Day themed stuff (despite likely being arospec but cough cough we dont need to talk about that.)
I also just really love pink . Look at this cutie pie!! I love the brown eyes on it since it's like chocolate... The green looks really good too! Green + pink my favorite color scheme ever...
3: The Flamingo Furby!
Once again . pink. I chose this image because it looks like it's scheming.... Wonderful beast. Another one that's marvelous with every eye color . 10/10 creature I love these things !!
4: The autumn/witch Furby!
The little hat??? Is so cute ??? Just . Adorable I love it so much. I prefer winter and spring(we're getting to spring wink wink) as seasons, but autumn does have some pretty impeccable vibes . Especially on a furby.
5: Angel furby!
This probably should have been higher on the list next to the jester bc i was like. Vaguely organizing them from like. Most expensive/hard to get to easiest but i forgot 🙏
Anyways if you know me atall you know that I. Love. Angels. To a concerning degree. And the purple eyes ? Best design choice ever ?? Looks fantastic?? Really otherworldly while still being cute. Obsessed.
6: Spring time furby! (Baby or adult)
The light purple is just so nice... It reminds me of the lilacs that bloom in a bunch of different shades of purple at my grandparents' house during the spring, which makes it extra sweet looking to me! It's kind of confusing with the baby version that apparently wasn't special addition- but yaknow what it's cute so it's ok.
7: Lime Green Baby!
I cannot express to you how much I love this cutie... little keylime pie lookin ass. Adorable. Also green is my favorite color so-
8: Sunny Baby!!
Look at how delightful this creature is! This is the one I'm most likely getting soonish- I absolutely adore the sunny babies! They are just one of the cutest things on beautiful planet earth to me. I'm so dedicated to getting one of these sweethearts once I move I already have a list of name ideas... (Any suggestions would be welcome!)
Before I move on to the last two furbs, here are some honorable mentions:
Confetti, Clown, Primary, Mint Green, Red wolf, and wizard.
9: Strawberry Milk furby!
Honestly I'd be happy with any of the 2005 furbies (the adult ones, not the babies... those were the only actually scary furbies lmao). They're all pretty pricey, but I think someday I'll be able to find at least one- I'd be satisfied with that. Also i really like this one specifically bc it reminds me of vanilla ice cream with red velvet chunks in it.
10: Funky Purple Furby!
Last but definitely not least!
Again- I'd be happy with any of the '05 furbs, but something about the green and purple here is so charming to me . This will probably stay a dream though, since the funky ones are even more expensive than the regular ones.
And that's all of my dream furbies!! It was mostly just an excuse to talk about the ones I like, i doubt I'll ever get my hands on most of them- but I had a lot of fun making this!
Anyway if anyone ever wants to talk about furbies or show off theirs you are absolutely more than welcome to dm me I will be over the moon!!
🩷 have a lovely day/night !!

COUNTERSPELL ASK!!!!!!!!! (unless you already answered this (I couldn't find it) or it's already in your inbox)
If New Year's resolutions were a thing in Faerûn, would Jay or Aurora be the kind to make any? What kinds of resolutions would they make? Would they ever be able to keep any of them? Are there any resolutions they'd keep making over and over again, but always fail?
Bonus, because I kind of answered it in my post: What are their plans post-BG3?
I did get a similar-ish ask, but it also had like 4 other questions baked into it, so I'm answering this particular question here (also hi Nonny, if you're reading this I'm working on your ask too!)
- - -
Jay is totally the kinda guy to make resolutions every year, and then fail horribly at keeping any of them. He'll get better at sticking to his planned schedules, he'll get home earlier so he can sleep more and better, he'll set aside time to work on his hobbies, he'll take a vacation for the first time in his life.
And then he never does any of those things, just keeps going as he always has while telling himself "last time I can be bothered with this, I swear". The resolutions mostly stay the same because his life does, and because he never manages to see any of them through.
I think he likes the idea of new beginnings, a fresh start to do things right, but it's of course a romanticized idea more that anything else.
- - -
Aurora is more pragmatic about it, and while new beginnings is a central theme in her journey, she doesn't see the point of waiting for a particular time of year to do so.
She might say she'll do something just for fun, but it's not serious at all, and she rarely even tries to follow through.
If she did do them, they'd probably be things like "spend more quality time with loved ones" and "be kinder to yourself" (something she really needs to work on).
Cult!Aurora wouldn't do any resolutions either, and thinks it's even more stupid than post-tadpole Aurora. She has shit to do, she doesn't have time to sit around and promise herself she'll do all the things that needs doing like that.
- - -
Bonus:
I think I mentioned this in another ask at some point, but Jay's plans for life post-game is essentially:
1) Finish all business in Baldur's Gate 2) Go to Waterdeep to live with Gale 3) ??? 4) Profit
He doesn't have any concrete plans for his future for the first time in forever, and it does him well to just vibe for a while and have Gale pamper him a bit, a gesture which he eagerly returns in kind. They're holding off on marriage at first, giving both a moment to settle into each other's lives, and just learning to know each other better in a less life-threatening situation.
Jay also needs time to feel like he actually belongs in Gale's life, especially among his wider social and familial circles (which luckily works out in the end, I hc that Gale's mom and wider family are actually pretty nice and welcoming cause I need that W for my guy).
Eventually he starts up his business again, operating out of both Waterdeep and Baldur's Gate with the help of a portal set up between the two cities (that would surly be within Gale's capabilities yeah?) I'm sure the wizards of Waterdeep would love a funky little guy who can get a hold of all sorts of weird stuff that they need.
- - -
Aurora's plans depend largely on Shadowheart's ending. In my first playthrough I let her choose the fate of her parents, which meant they died and Shadowheart was free to live life on her own. But I'm not sure if that is my final canon, now that I know both Jay and Aurora would admit to wanting to save them if they were their own parents.
If her parents die, it's simple: Aurora, Shadowheart, and Astarion travel around Faerûn, seeing all sorts of things and getting into way too much trouble, again. They eventually plan to settle down somewhere, with both Aurora and Shadowheart keen to live a more normal life for once, and Astarion finding his own place in that life I'm sure.
If her parents live, Shadowheart stays behind to make up for lost time, while Aurora and Astarion go to the Underdark to help sort out the hoard of unsupervised vampire spawn they unleashed down there. Maybe Shadowheart eventually joins them, traveling around much like when her parents are dead, or Aurora and Astarion occasionally travel around on their own, while Shadowheart stays behind with her parents.
Either way, she has no real interest in a future where she's separated from either one of them for too long at the time.
#Sunny Answers#bioticbear#OC: Tav#OC: Aurora Dawnbringer#thank youuu :3c#giving long ass answers as usual lmao#I started on this at like 6 in the morning like an idiot and before I knew it it was 8 AM and I should have been in bed over 3 hours ago
