Headcanon time: Before Sonic and Tails discovered the foxes love for mints, he would take off his glove and bite his hand unconsciously. He always had cuts and wounds on his finger tips from the constant biting. It’s also unsanitary and it’s improper to just have your paws exposed like that in public.

After they discovered his mint addiction though, Sonic would always give him a mint when Tails was sketching out plans as a subtle way to keep the kit from biting his fingers.
