For some reason looking at the Gen 9 TCG cards on Bulbapedia has made me desperate to do a birbs-only run of Violet (I mean I already had the idea but seeing the coins of the Trickster Cat and Gay Duck made me realise just how desperate I am for this). I’m probably gonna call my Quaxly (if I do this) Captain both because it kinda looks like it would work well as a sea captain as Quaxly and Quaxwell and also because that’s the starter I paired Falcon up with in Paldea (well, in general really because apparently I think a gay duck would suit him more than a gay chicken)

Ha, scroll my blog as much as you like, I'm glad someone's enjoying it.

Now, I said Jolteon is my second favourite Eeveelution, not my second favourite Pokémon. Honestly I don't know who currently holds that title, or if I've ever had a clear idea who does. But to get back on topic, my favourite Eeveelution is Espeon. Which is kind of odd for me, since most Psychic-types don't do a lot for me, but Espeon is the exception. Good kitty. Magic Bounce go brrrrrrrrr.

My actual favourite though? *sigh* Look, it's a basic bitch answer. It's the basic bitch answer. And I hate that, I hate it so much, because it makes me feel like I have to defend it, like I have to prove I'm a real fan by clarifying that I have plenty of other weirder mons I love, that I have reasons for liking it as much as I do beyond nostalgia, and that it's still worth loving despite being shilled to death. But I shouldn't have to, y'know? I was a Charizard fanboy when I was 5 years old and I'll be one till the day I die.

Pokemon Teams: Lovebrush Chronicles

So, for Pokemon Day, I just had a little fun creating teams for the main cast of Lovebrush Chronicles. I tried to make sure I wasn't too on the nose, and that these picks were a little bit more realistic. I hope you enjoy!

AYN: Talonflame, Grimmsnarl, Urshifu, Dondozo, Tatsugiri, Incineroar

Ayn is a tryhard when it comes to battling. I gave him a team that is legitimately competitively viable, and that fits to his character. Incineroar and Dondozo draw parallels to his cat motif and Alice the whale, respectively. He also has a Buneary that mainly acts as a house pet.

ALKAID: Mantine, Teddiursa, Blissey, Sawsbuck, Minior, Tropius

While a capable trainer, Alkaid doesn't focus on battling, but on outdoor activities with his Pokemon. He loves Matine surfing, as well as going on hikes with Sawsbuck and flying on Tropius. He caught most of his team while on his travels. He names his Pokemon; his Teddiursa is named Sparkles.

LARS: Lapras, Ludicolo, Pyroar, Lycanroc, Flamigo, Pyukumuku

Lars doesn't like battling; his Pokemon are solely extended parts of his family. Any sort of evolution is usually done with private training, or via vitamins. He got his Pyroar as a Litleo, and cherishes it. He loves surfing out on the lake with Lapras, and his Pyukumuku was caught while at the beach.

CLARENCE: Nidoking, Liepard, Tyranitar, Swanna, Skitty, Zweilous

Clarence much prefers Pokemon research and biology. His love for monsters and for cats shines through with this team. However, one of these is not like the other: his Skitty. His Skitty is often seen outside of its ball and will follow him around like a lost puppy. Pokemon, even dangerous ones, seem drawn to Clarence.

CAEL: Espeon, Milotic, Frosmoth, Aegislash, Gardevoir, Lunala

Elegant but deadly, Cael's team is unsuspecting and can pack a punch. Gardevoir specifically can see the future and make small black holes. Cael is also the only character with a box legendary, albeit one that isn't deemed as "rare" due to its extraterrestrial nature and its evolution cycle from a Cosmog. Cael has quite a few Ultra Beasts, though he rarely uses them outside of his own home world.

MC: Smeargle, Espurr, Cosmog, Ninetales, Frosslass, Mandibuzz

I know I said I'd avoid Pokemon that were too on the nose, but Smeargle is the only Pokemon with the powerful move, Sketch. It perfectly represents her Illustra powers. Likewise, her Cosmog is a gift from Cael. She also names her Pokemon; her Espurr is named Beanie.

"Hey hey, Rika here, at your-!"

"So! Rika!"

"Why don't you tell us about yourself! Liiiike... favorite color, favorite pokemon, aand... Oh, and type specialty!"

"Well, alright then. My name's Rika, I'm 26, an Elite Four member of the Paldea League, my favorite color is dark green, and I love ground types. Especially Clodsire. Their little faces are so squishy and adorable! I've yet to meet anyone that doesn't like 'em!"

"Oh yeah, Clodsire! It's your strongest buddy, ain't it? How'd you two meet?!"

"Well, I'll tell you. I was wandering around Paldea during my own treasure hunt one day, without a pokemon of my own yet as the school didn't hand 'em out back then. I wasn't paying attention to where I was going, and I slipped into a lake near Los Platos."

"Whaaaat?! That's crazy!"

"Yeah, I tried getting out on my own but those Flamigo are terrifying, man! They kept kicking me down, but then this little Wooper, the loveable goopy boys they are, attacked one of the Flamigo by splashing mud at them! I was able to use that distraction to climb out of the lake, and I helped the Wooper get away by throwing some rocks."

"So you two became friends after that?"

"Sure did! My little Clodsire is so smart, he knew exactly how to blind those Flamigos with one shot! They're smart, adorable, strong, and resilient! If someone doesn't like Clodsire... Well, I'd have to refuse to battle them."

"You can DO THAT?!"

"You betcha! Larry turned down someone a few months back for being one of the teachers involved in covering up that big student harassment scandal at that Academy in Mesagoza. Apparently he knew because he has some sorta ties to 'interpol' or whatever, and recognized the guy right away?"

"Larry's a cop?"

"Detective, I guess."

"..huh. I just thought he was some boring guy that hated us."

"Yeah, every League is required to have an interpol agent working for 'em. I think Sinnoh has some exception with that Argenta lady being a high-ranking detective for them?"

"Oooh, speaking of other regions! Do you got any interregional gossip for the peeps listening at home?"

"Hoo boy, where do I start? Oh, let's go with Sinnoh since it's on topic. Did you know that the new champion-ranked trainer, Dawn, is related to the new professor, Lucas? There had to be a whole investigation to make sure it wasn't nepotism that got either of them their jobs!"

"Wowzers! That's real interesting! Ooh, you got anything about Johto? I know it's got ties to Sinnoh, right?"

"You betcha. Apparently Champion Lance has held private investigations, and even assaulted several members of criminal organizations in order to solve cases. Interpol can't do anything, though, due to that part of the world having laws preventing them from entering the Kanto and Johto regions."

"They can DO THAT?!"

"Yeah there's been a whole lot of scandals and cover-ups with that, but I can't say any more. I've probably breached my contract with the league already, so interpol won't protect me if anything happens. But hey, I got Clodsire to protect me so who cares?!"

"Wow... There's a whole lot the elite four get to know that the public doesn't! It's craaazy!"

"Yeah, don't get me started on some of the relationship drama... The interregional group chats are bad enough as it is, I don't want to talk about some of the extremely weird things people talk about in those. At least Poppy ain't in 'em."

"Yeah, that's rough..."

"Oh! We're nearly out of time, Rika. Is there anything else you'd like to say before we gotta wrap things up here?"

"Hm... Well, let's see."

"Kiddos, stay true to yourself. Stick with your dreams until the end, and enjoy the life you've got. You've only got one, so don't go throwing it away with unethical crimes or anything bad like that. If you hurt anyone else, expect to be hurt back. Life is all about give and take, so be kind to others and they'll be kind to you."

"Accept different points of view that conflict with your own, and use experiences in life to build yourself up to be a better person!"

"Wow, Rika. That's SO touching!"

"Hah! You think so?"

"...oh, and another thing. Trans rights are human rights. If I see anyone insulting Iono or Tulip again on the Paldea League forums I'll be cracking skulls. You all hear me?! What do you think of the Pokémon trainer Komaru’s team I made here?

Eevee: (starter Pokémon she got from a twin egg with Makoto)

Quagsire: I just know she would have one

Hisuian Zoroark: She keeps on encountering wild ghost Pokémon somehow even in the day to the point she somehow gets a Pokémon from a completely different time period

Mimikyu: relates a lot to Mimikyu’s insecurities

Shuppet: It just feels right for her

Shedninja: She got this from Toko and in exchange she traded her Haunter to Toko.

I try to not give full teams unless i have a reason because it feels a bit unreasonable to expect everyone to have a full six pokemon but they're are good choices! though i feel having a shuppet and likely future banette kinda makes some overlap with mimikyu.

Personally I would make the zoroark a zorua and maybe swap in a fighting type like pawmo or flamigo or stufful to replace mimikyu or shuppet, i would swap out the mimikyu myself because komaru has a lot more stuff about being left behind then she does about being overlooked, but again that's just my thoughts. I do love her having a shedinja she got from Toko though that's so so so cute

☠🌏– Hoho! Little Rika was rather spunky as a pup. Always chasing Pokémon around, getting in trouble, climbing trees and outrunning other Pokémon... But overall very loving and protective of us the same way she still is. We're very fast in the muddy water, but not so much on land, y'see. In normal circumstances, little can a Sire do to protect their young if they're snatched far away from them... but our baby here was always on high alert whenever she heard a suspicious sound, and would sniff out and quickly scare away any predator that'd come for our pups, or even give us a warning so we could quickly swim and attack if the intruder was by the bank.

She became so famous in this side of the pond that it's been ages since we've last been bothered by any Golduck or Flamigo, n' it's the reason we've been able to make our turf bigger through alliances and prosperous rearing. Even long after she moved out, the way she protected us still lives on, so predators no longer bother us, hohoho!

She's changed a lot... Much more mature and level-headed now, for sure. She was always so lucky and never got hurt, but the day before she left, I saw she had a bloody scar on her shoulder from facing off against a Espathra. It reminded me of back when I got blind in this eye o' mine, facin' off against a Golduck tryin' to hurt my mate... and it did her, too. Doesn't make my dear Rika any weaker, n' even though I couldn't outright tell her, I hope she knows still... If I could lead my pond half-blind, so can she achieve great things.

Summary: Brunch is enjoyed, drinks are served, someone calls Gio a daddy, Ariana is not amused. And Gold receives punishment for a crime he and Silver committed in their teen years. This is gonna be a series, it's gonna go on ao3 at some point idk, everyone is an adult of legal drinking age on Pasio, whatever that is, lol

“You’ve gotta do it, Silver” Archer said, nervously peeking behind the curtain toward the loud, drunken mess outside. 

“No. No way in hell am I going out there,” Silver crossed his arms over his chest, he didn’t have a death wish. 

“Somebody has to go out there!” Petrel cried, throwing his arms up in the air. It was chaos, pandemonium, it was brunch.

“I’ll do it.” Giovanni stood up from the couch, despite his words, he looked anything but sure.

“Boss, no!” Archer begged, “If you go out there, they’ll eat you alive.”

In a rare show of emotion, Silver grabbed his father’s sleeve, shaking his head, “Dad-” Giovanni gave his hand a reassuring squeeze.

“I love you Silver,” With a deep breath, Giovanni steeled himself, he gave his son a final nod as he opened the door, stepping out into the madness that had taken over his pool area. 

Thirty pairs of eyes turned to look at the mafia boss, never had he been more afraid, yet he still put on a charming smile, opening his arms wide,

“I hope everyone is having a great time!” 

He was met with a chorus of cheering, he looked around for his son-in-law, the young man was vomiting over the railing onto the beach below his infinity pool. Silver was in for a time later. 

“I came to see if you all were interested in some different food?” He gestured toward the untouched buffet table. 

“No but you can get us some more champagne!” Came a shout from a voice he didn’t recognize, though it may have been one of the Galarian gym leaders, 

“Well you have-” Giovanni started, there was no way they were getting more alcohol. 

“NO! BRING TEQUILA!” He knew that voice, Lorelei, despite her nerdy demeanor she was a wild party girl when she drank, back when he was still a gym leader, he’d been to enough holiday parties to know to not bring out the tequila.

“Oh! Tequila, yes let’s do it!” Nessa cried from the flamigo pool floatie she was lounging on, he actually knew her fairly well, both of them worked out at the same gym in Pasio at the same very early hour. They exchanged workout tips,

“Blah! No, get us some gin!” Olena said stumbling over to lean heavily on Lady Diantha, 

“Only you like gin, you Galarian tramp!” Giovanni didn’t recognize that voice even a bit, luckily Olena didn’t seem to hear it. 

“I’ll send out some gin and tequila, how does that sound?” Giovanni asked, bluffing heavily. There were cheers as he quickly returned inside. 

“Boss?” Archer asked in a weak voice, Giovanni just shook his head, he looked at one of the waiting servants, 

“Please empty my tequila and gin into decanters, then fill up the bottles with water.” 

“Yes Mr. Giovanni,” the young man said before disappearing into the other room,

Silver barked out a laugh, “Depending on how old those bottles are, they’re pretty much all water anyway,” 

Giovanni and Archer turned to the redhead, lifting their eyebrows in an identical fashion, Silver shrugged,

“What? Ethan and I used to sneak in and steal your booze,” 

Giovanni rubbed the bridge of his nose, Silver was too old to ground now, but he’d be on drunken brunch duty next month.

“Oh my arceus, he is such a daddy!” Olivia squealed drinking what she thought was a tequila heavy margarita, luckily she and the rest of the brunch attendees were too drunk to realize Giovanni’s double cross. 

“Yessss, seriously, you’re so lucky that you got to tap that, Ariana!” Serena sighed, leaning heavily onto a very passed out Jasmine’s shoulders. 

“Excuse me?!” The rocket executive’s face morphed from peacefully drunk to absolutely disgusted, “I would never! That’s disgusting!” She stood up, enraged, her watered down drink spilling all over the table, no one was sober enough to care.

Ethan developed a case of the giggles as he watched and listened to the scene unfold. 

“But aren’t you Silver’s mom, and Giovanni is his dad?” Dawn asked, tilting her head, Ethan spit out the sip he had just taken.

“NO!” Ariana shouted, she slammed her drink down on the table, storming off to where Wallace was braiding Cynthia’s hair, plopping down and glaring at the rest of the guests,

Between laughs Ethan explained, “Ari is Gio’s cousin, not Silv’s mom.” 

Varying degrees of shock passed the faces around the pool, Crys and Lyra already knew, as did most of the Kanto guests. 

“I know what we say doesn’t leave the pool, but feel free to spread that around,” Ethan said with a laugh, he looked down at his drink. He could feel himself sobering up. He had a bad feeling about the alcohol content in the liquor bottles as soon as they were brought out, he (and Silver) had already enjoyed the effects, and these drinks were probably almost entirely water. 

Payback’s a bitch, ain’t it?

 “Auntie? You still conscious?” Kiawe’s voice called from the gate, 

“Cyn, Wallace, let’s go,” Lance appeared behind the younger man, apparently sent to retrieve Wallace for Steven,

One by one the various partners, rivals, lovers, and coworkers came to pick up the drunken brunch crowd. Ariana was escorted to the executive’s villa by Petrel, who had chosen the shortest straw, she complained loudly and bitterly that after all of these years people still think she’s Giovanni’s lover. He just nodded along, silently crying. 

Ethan leaned back on the pool chair, everyone was gone, grunts would be cleaning up the mess soon, he could lay out a bit longer, his head was already killing him, the problem with day drinking was the day hangovers that followed much too quickly. 

“Feeling like shit?” Ethan tentatively opened an eye, Silver stood above him, a smirk playing on his lips. Ethan didn’t respond, only laid his arm over his eyes to block out the sun and Silver’s smug look.

“Did your dad serve us the…” he trailed off at Silver’s grimace, confirming that they had been found out, years later. 

“Shit.”

“Yeah.” 

“He mad?”

“I have to babysit your next brunch”

Ethan let out a laugh despite himself, only for Silver to grab his chair and dump him in the water. At least Silver stuck around to make sure his husband didn’t drown.

So I’m going to battle the Elite Four later and I just realized I went this long without mentioning what my team is! Here it is:

Louis the Skeledirge: The starter, obviously! As I said before, I named him after the alligator from The Princess and the Frog. As with all starters, he’s the team leader. Relaxed nature and highly curious. Current moveset is Torch Song, Shadow Ball, Thunder Fang and Flamethrower. He’s holding the Choice Scarf.

Babe the Oinkologne: The tutorial catch. Named after the titular pig from the movie Babe. Doesn’t get to see battle much, but he’s a valued member of the team nonetheless. Sassy nature and somewhat stubborn. Current moveset is Trailblaze, Uproar, Body Slam and Headbutt. He’s holding the Leftovers.

Gerald the Spidops: Did not expect to love him as much as I do. He’s currently our highest level Pokemon PURELY by accident. Very cool, though still a bit frail. Modest nature and quick tempered. Current moveset is Bug Buzz, Skitter Smack, Giga Drain and X-Scissor. He’s holding the Quick Claw.

Ferdinand the Golduck: As much as I love Psyduck, I’d never used one in a Pokemon game until now. Ferdinand is also named after a character from Babe, specifically the duck who was scared of becoming Christmas dinner. The special attack specialist. Quiet nature and mischievous. Current moveset is Surf, Psychic, Ice Beam and Aqua Tail. He’s holding the Wise Glasses.

Crossgills the Clodsire: Big round boy who also acts as our powerhouse against Electric and Fairy-types. Best friends with everyone on the team. Hardy nature and somewhat stubborn. Current moveset is Earthquake, Sludge Wave, Rock Slide and Poison Jab. He’s holding the Black Sludge.

Flamiga the Flamigo: The face of destruction. Ruthlessly mows down every living thing in her path because she’s literally too stupid to know what the word “mercy” means. Her Scrappy ability means that even Ghost-types cannot escape her deadly grasp. Quiet nature and alert to sounds. Current moveset is Air Slash, Close Combat, Air Cutter and Low Kick. She’s holding the Scope Lens.

And of course, Koraidon. He can’t battle yet, but he’s our bike and he loves sandwiches!

Pokemon Violet Thoughts

I did not expect to like this game as much as I did omg. I saw a lot of criticism, and while valid, the game is still very very very fun. (Tbf it'd be pretty hard to mess up a Pokemon game though!!)

Honestly, this might be one of my favorite storylines out of any Pokemon game? I've played through most of the Pokemon games (except Coliseum, Snap, Legends Arceus) + only got through half of SwSh and SuMo, but I know what happens in the Gen 7 and 8 storylines. BW/BW2's storyline was more consistent in terms of quality (SV has higher highs and lower lows imo), and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon is amazing too, but it follows predictable patterns and its main strength lies in its characterization rather than its actual plot. I haven't played Legends Arceus yet so that's still up in the air (though I hear it's good!)

I really enjoyed the reveal that the Professor Turo we knew was actually an AI, and exploring the Great Crater with our friends from school was so endearing and fun. The Great Crater itself looked incredible -- the design and the music really contributed to its otherworldly ambiance. Even reading the Violet Book made me really excited -- but then again, I've always been a sucker for stories of adventure. I would kill to have a Made in Abyss style anime of Heath's expedition into the Crater...

The characters in this game feel really alive, too -- Pokemon games have definitely stepped up their game in that regard. I liked Nemona the most (and how self-aware, yet incorrigible she is lol), and most of the teachers. ❤️

Miriam is such a sweetheart, and Hassel's sobbing whenever he was proud of us was so cute haha. Salvatore didn't speak to me as much, but I enjoyed his mini-storyline of befriending a Pokemon that didn't really speak, and him being completely understanding (as a languages teacher) that sometimes you don't need to speak the same language, or even a language to communicate with others around you. His entire character is such a vibe, too?? He's so happy and upbeat, and his advice about trying to learn the languages of places you go to and complimenting other people (especially their culture, food, etc.) is so real. Miriam being motivated by our dedication in the Treasure Hunt to pursue her own certification was sweet, I've definitely felt that way before as well (being motivated by the efforts of others, that is. ;o;)

Raifort I didn't connect to as much, but I appreciate her zealousness towards history. Her overall personality was pretty fun. xD I really really did enjoy the story about the ruinous treasure Pokemon, though -- one of my favorite (if not favorite) legendary Pokemon stories now. I've always loved fairytale-esque stories, and the designs of these Pokemon (especially Chien Pao and Chi Yu) are amazing. Their battle music is one of the best things I've ever listened to, so there's that too. xD

NPC designs have also stepped up (Grusha and Rika are so hot LOL), but player customization has taken a step back which was very disappointing to find out. And much as I loved Pokemon ScarVio overall, I do understand where a lot of the grievances people had came from.

I don't consider myself a genwunner (far from it lol) but many of the new Pokemon designs just felt... lacking? Like beta designs. Flamigo, Tandemaus, Palafin, Pawmot. Some of these are probably just personal preference so I won't harp on this too much, but eh.

Arven's storyline also didn't speak to me as much but that also just kind comes down to personal preference.

Something I also didn't like as much was the Team Star storyline -- it felt kind of contrived, and like it was really trying to make us feel bad for the area leaders. I also didn't care for Penny that much, although her interactions in the Great Crater area made up for it.

I would've rather we had a proper villainous team this generation instead of getting Team Star, but I guess then it would've been weird if the school let us run around the country lol.

Because run around the country we did... from top to bottom, for those f**king ominous stakes. They couldn't have made them show up on the map either (unless there's a function I missed. Which if that is the case let me live in ignorance aaaaaaaah I'll legit start foaming at the mouth if it turns out I just needed to turn something on). The idea of the stakes sealing these ruinous Pokemon's powers is alright, it's just annoying to have to scramble down cliffs and valleys to find 32 of these things.

As much as I do like the Great Crater part of the storyline, I wish it was more ingrained with everything else. The gym challenges, Team Star, the herba mystica... I mean, it was technically ingrained in the sense that you need to help your rivals out with their issues so they can accompany you into the crater, but there should've been more story significance tying everything together.

I also would've appreciated some sidequests in the Pokemon world. Coming from Genshin, I'm kind of spoiled in that regard (the world is soooo chock-full of events and quests and areas to explore). While Paldea doesn't really need that many quests and hidden areas (it's gotten to the point where exploration is kind of exhausting in Genshin lol), more would've been nice.

Environmental storytelling almost always hits, and it could've been a nice way to talk about the issues invasive species pose (basically our reason for shutting down the time machine) and in turn, connect things to the main storyline as well. For example, Barraskewda's Violet Pokedex entry mentions that it completes with Palafin for food -- what if Barraskewda wasn't native to Paldea, and just hitched a ride from Galar? We could have had a sidequest to curb the Barraskewda population to help the native Palafin population recover. That's just one example, too. What about the giant Iron Treads in the desert, or the rolling boulders dropped by Bombirdier? That things had to have caused some collateral damage, and it would have been cool to get quests to help the Pokemon or people in the area recover.

Paldea's open world was very beautiful and fun to explore, but it was also really... empty. I hope that in a future iteration of games, these kinds of sidequests can be added. The addition of them would really help make the world feel more alive.

And while I do really like ScarVio's story, its execution could have been a lot better than it was. But despite all the game's flaws, it was still incredibly fun ,and surprisingly touching. :') I am very extremely excited for the eventual DLC that will hopefully give us a glimpse of that hexagonal Pokemon, and more story content of the main four. 🥺🥺🥺

My personal opinion on Pokemon Scarlet Violet

While I'm trying my best to avoid spoilers, it might contain some info that you might not know yet - please be sure

Visual : Definitely unpolished and unoptimized. The game runs at 3FPS the whole time, sometimes the camera behaves weird, and some objects have kinda glitchy motion that are absolutely visible even from far.

Gameplay : Despite the visual issues - it's insanely fun. Though sometimes we can find glitches or minor issues, fortunately they are all not fatal or major problems to progress the story (as I understand the glitch hunting scene correctly). There are a lot of things you can do, exploration, taking a detour, or just catching Pokemon, all of them are wild. Usually I stop playing after beating the champion, but it's not the case for SV somehow. Though it would be super awesome if the game runs at least stable 30 FPS constantly though. Also Terastal gives it a lot more depth to the battle and the raid mechanics. It's a very simple but crazy idea without exaggerating. Unfortunately we still feel the Terastal raid battle is also not polished while we definitely enjoy the raid with friends or with random people, I just believe they will improve it more in future.

UI / Mechanic : Okay - Meh. Some are cool - like scrolling text is much faster compared to the old titles, it even allows us to completely skip some dialogues that we often read frequently - but some are definitely with space to improve, like the map or the bag. I believe there is nothing really game-breaking, that's at least good and probably they paid the effort to patch out.

Characters : Absolutely wild. Since this is just a personal note, I'm sure I'm just saying my personal favorite - they are all super unique and vivid. I can talk forever about them. Ortega, Grusha, Rika - who hates Rika, Iono - yeah I know some people hate her, I don't actively like her either but we definitely feel like she's a new breeze to the world of Pokemon so yeah I take it - actually all the team star leaders and gym leaders are super cool, I need to appreciate all the designers working on creating them. I really really wish we could meet all of them after beating them since they were toooooo adorable to just fight and bye. Especially the elite four - once you beat the elite four, you can't re-match them for good. Yeah... Rika...

New Pokemon : like how could they think it was a good idea to add just flamingos???? I mean it's funny so I love it though. You might feel some Pokemon are disappointing, like Dudunsparce, or Flamigo, I have no argument with that. But otherwise I feel they are crazy and broken in a good way, like we got chilli pepper, twin-headed chilli pepper, bread-puppy, earthworm, just a rock salt - I couldn't stop making the pog face after finding that tiny mushroom-ish pokemon that I ran into was just a tiny rock salt crystal - tumbleweed, a chibi megaman, two megamans that have flame and sword respectively, and a flamingo. How?? Let me repeat it - I absolutely love these crazy new Pokemon ideas, they make the adventure much more fun to try to find and catch a new one.

Music : Fantastic. I definitely want to point out the elite four music issue - the background music for the elite four battles can be stuck at the intro loop forever and it doesn't progress the music somehow, unless you restart the game. That's... probably one the worst audio glitches, feeling as a composer. Since it is one of the climaxes of the game... Let's forget the bug since I remembered to restart my console before meeting Rika. They are absolutely fantastic. Some tracks even seamlessly continue between the exploration and the battle phase, it makes me - wow. Plus Toby Fox made a lot of more bangers, it would be a spoiler so I don't wanna talk in depth here though - they make me absolutely hype. I'm sure for music - it's easier to understand it by listening, not talking, so yeah I recommend you to check some tracks from it. Oh please be careful the Ed Sheeran jumpscare (I love the song tho).

Story : Holy Dudunsparce. Not gonna lie, this is the first time that one of the main series of Pokemon titles made me cry through the story. Even twice! They really tried and it worked. I mean I know it's kinda cheap, straightforward and very simple because it's Pokemon which has the largest diversity of players, some are not familiar with playing games, or some are literally children, like 6 yo (right?). But dang that was something.

Overall : I think other people already said it, but - it's the most broken pokemon but so far the most fun pokemon at the same time. That's crazy.

Hallo friends, I'm back to meta the beautiful man that is Larry again. :D

Now, I want to preface this by saying: Larry doesn't have a canon love interest, and on this blog, we love and support any and all ships that involve people of legal ages. If you ship Larry with Saguaro, valid; Rika, valid; Grusha, valid; self-insert, valid; Geeta... don't get that one personally, but you're valid; Old Man Trio, valid. I love you, your opinion matters greatly, and I have happily read all of the above and enjoyed them.

... But me, personally? All about that vanillacupcakes life. And I thought for a while, despite Katy using an ace that is a Normal type, that that was as far as the symbolism went. It was more that I liked the idea than anything, y'know? Larry deserves a soft but fierce person who will step on him after baking him brownies, and she gets a nice battle challenge when Geeta makes her go soft on the students... it just works for me, honestly. Bi4bi. <3

... But, well... I've noticed a thing. Dangerous that, when you're me.

Yesterday, wandering around during my Fairylocke, I found this:

... Huh. You can find this lovely lady bear in Dalizapa Passage, up on some rocks, and... not only is it Flying, but it's also female, which Katy's Ursaring also so happens to be.

But, hey. Even though the odds of this are very low... easy to write this off as a coincidence, right? Well, you'd think... and then there's this guy.

Just up from the Secluded Beach, in a swampland area, is this Flamigo. A male Flamigo, in fact... just like Larry's.

... Would anyone care to hazard a guess as to what the odds of this being random, each with its correct gender, is?

It's 0.00077% (so my dear pal Han tells me, I'm not this good at maths) factoring in the eighteen types each of these could have been, with each Pokemon gender available to each species - or put another way, 7.7 in 10,000.

... Do you know what the random shiny odds are in this game? 1 in 4096, as it has been since gen VI, or 0.0244%.

This is only around twice as less likely to have happened than a full odds shiny post-gen VI, which is... huh. These are the only two wild Tera Ursarings and Flamigos in the game, and just in case you were curious...

There's only one other Flying/Fighting type in this game, Hawlucha. Guess what type it is?

... And there's also a Bug/Flying type, Scyther, who just so happens to be a Normal type.

May have to rethink that whole 'they've got no symbolism' thing...

I like how Larry has square pupils, Normal type Pokemon, Normal guy, so many people might refur to him as a square. He is really interesting though; he is my favorite gym leader.

bro I love Larry, and the art I've seen literally goes from some of the most hilarious things to EXTREMELY relatable, like him burying his face in his Altaria’s fluff. Or his cute Pom Pom Oricorio cheering him up.

I will say now, I have such an attachment to Pom Pom Oricorio after I used one during my first playthrough of Sun, where she was my electric type user of Revelation Dance and Ground-type hidden power.

Couldn’t work one in when I played Ultra Sun, and my Bird-only Nuzlocke is currently covered by Kilowattrel, so I have a Baile Oricorio instead. They’re just hardly little things. The BEST.

But also, Larry eats a lot. Good man. Needs to stop working overtime, I swear Geeta is purposely being unpleasant to him to force him to stop working overtime. But Larry also seems to be the type to do things out of spite.

It’s funny, but also he understands the “going home is great sometimes, don’t need to do something so elaborate”

But also good choice in birds (and the Fruitplane that grows fruit for his birdies) :V

(he also has two Dudunsparce - one of them is male, the other is female. And his Komala is also a girl, like his Oricorio, Altaria, and Oinkologne. His lovely ladies. Gets them good snackies, while burying his face into his Staraptor’s feathers and his Flamigo just wraps its neck around him)
