YOU DID SUCH A GOOD JOB!!! the spooky vibes are immaculate 🎃✨️
So lately I've been watching @judetuude decorate houses on their stream and the one thing I really love about their style is that they put in these little details everywhere. I was inspired so I tried to do a Jude-style room in Jensen's (the sickly Victorian boy) house. Of course I still have to match everything because I'm me but I tried a lot harder not to make everything super symmetrical. I think it's still missing something but I really like the vibe so far.

one of these days I will fully articulate an essay on the costume design in the terror (for crozier specifically because I have so many brainworms about it) but it is not this day
#bro I just think it's super neat that his style of dress is distinctly stuff from about 10 even 20 years before the expedition set sail#and how that's a deliberate choice for the character because he's a broke ass bitch and wouldn't be able to afford new shit!!!!#it really speaks to his practicality!!! a lot of his stuff is mended!!! his shirt is more of an 1830's style than an 1840's style#(re: jfj's shirt that he wears when he's dying is more typical of a shirt made in the 1840's with that big pleated plaquet- vs crozier with#his shirt with a cut-out curved collar is more distinctively 1830's maybe even earlier)#also the stuff he was wearing in the sophia flashback was way more REGENCY than victorian#sorry. infinite brainworms about this all the time and always#and I love it now when costume designers get this kind of shit RIGHT and that you can actually SEE it)#francis crozier#the terror

It's WIP Wednesday! Been a while since I posted one of these. Have some Victorian era romance that I've been writing instead of new chapters of the things you all actually want to read!
Something was going on.
A few weeks ago, there had been a long list of young men that wanted to dance with her. It was as if her feet hardly touched the ground when she was out, whirling between partners, pink and breathless by the end of each glittering evening.
Danny Galkin had shown up to one of the next parties with a black eye, and refused to so much as look at her, and he’d been one of her most frequent partners on the dance floor. There had been rumours he would make a courting request. More and more of her partners began to avoid her, until she was spending most of her time sitting to the side, left out.
And it should have been just the opposite. There were officers in town, and soldiers loved to dance with pretty girls.
She had to corner Johnny Mactavish (bruised high on his cheekbone, knuckles split) to get an answer. One of the soldiers had taken a fancy to her.
Riley.
“He’s tha one with the big purple bruise on his jaw. Ye’ll ken who I mean.” Johnny grinned. “Ye cannae say I dinnae give as good as I get, bonnie.”
She did know who Johnny meant, the moment she locked eyes with the stranger across the ballroom. Tall, broad, dark eyes that burned hot like coals. The purple bruise on his face was stark against a pale, freckled complexion, the red coat no benefit to either.
She marched up to him, fury propelling her forward, overriding common sense or the desire to not cause a scene. “Who the hell do you think you are?”
His eyes narrowed slightly. He looked down his broken-and-set-wrong nose at her. “Not ladylike to swear,” he said, voice gruff.
“My apologies. Who the fuck do you think you are?”
His lips twitched up on one side, eyes flicking for just a moment to a bystander who was whispering about the foul language. “Simon Riley.”
His attention was only off of her for a moment, but she missed the heat of it anyway. “Were you ever planning to ask me to dance, Simon Riley? Or is enough for you to scare off every other young man that might like to?”
He drained his glass and handed it off to someone nearby that looked both deeply offended and reluctant to say anything about it. “Olright. I’ll dance with you, birdie. Since you asked so nice.”
“Good. I was worried you were too much a coward.” She took his hand and pulled him to the dance floor.
The music started, and he pulled her into his arms.
And he never let go.
#It's wip wednesday baybee#I just keep remixing Sparrow because I love to put Morgan in situations as much as I do the lads#I will not apologize#Victorian AU#Maybe Regency#I haven't fully narrowed down on the era I want to go with but I'm leaning more Victorian. The primary differences are style based#Also the whole industrial revolution happened#But whatever! I'm allowed to do whatever I want.

perils of publicly and deeply adoring a character with the same coloring as you, and very similar clothing taste
everything you make looks like you're attempting cosplay or [character]bounding
#fandom#sewing#LISTEN#I have LOVED BURGUNDY FOREVER and NATURAL FORM IS THE VICTORIAN CLOTHING STYLE BEST SUITED TO PUBLIC TRANSIT#THAT ISN'T 1890S#AND STANDING COLLARS THAT AREN'T TIGHT-FITTING ARE JUST COOL OKAY#I also like the very late 1860s gored skirt moment okay! I've made a blouse from that era!#and I do enjoy First bustle but that is decidedly NOT transit-friendly!

The Art of Saying Goodbye🥀
I had the privilege of drawing for @rosepetalgold for this year's @sandersidesbigbang !!
You can read their lovely fic The Art of Saying Goodbye that includes one of my favourite writing prompts - spirits! I had a lot of fun working on this piece; Victorian fashion trends really suit Logan~♡
[ID] (Image depicts a drawing of an old-fashioned picture frame overgrown with blue petunias. Within the frame is a pale, desaturated photo of Logan with a neutral expression on his face. He is looking off to the side, wearing what appears to be a faded beige vest over a white collared shirt with a dark blue tie.)
#casart#sanders sides#logan sanders#sanders sides big bang#sanders sides big bang 2023#i really wanted to draw smth kinda melancholy for this piece#i highly recommend the story i absolutely love it!#i got to look through so many lovely victorian frames and styles and realistically the picture wouldn't have colour#but i loved the author's description that Logan's tie is his pop of colour☆

*lovingly tackles Aine*
Read my Yandere! Pierro longfics first ♪( ´▽`)
Last week, my beloved mutual @ainescribe surprised me with Savior! Darling fan art and AHAI9232@2-!/! CRYING SCREAMING I WANT TO LOOK AT THIS ART AND WORSHIP YOUR VERSION OF SAVIOR THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BLESSING ME WITH YOUR ART—
*clears throat* Anyway, now that I finally have the time to properly sit down and comment on the fan art, I’ll do just that. Feedback will be in the tags and it will be unhinged. Once again, thank you so much to Aine for drawing this <3
#feedback#fan art#ainescribe#AIIINE ;-; once again. thank you so much!! it rlly means a lot to me that you enjoyed my writing and felt inspired to draw this :'>#and as someone who loves fashion and character design. it's so so interesting to analyze your version of savior#there's so much symbolism and visual storytelling in each sketch/ outfit and i shall now proceed to pick apart each detail as best as i can#her snezhnayan fit.....god i love it. it's regal. distinctively snezhnayan. and draws attention to her--and you just know that was pierro's#intention when he dressed her in those garments. IT'S JUST SO...!! savior's wardrobe scrubbed clean of her original culture and preferences#replaced with the foreign garments of her captor's nations.....in line with this. i love how her kokoshnik and khaenri'ahn earrings are big#and attention-grabbing. you can't look at her without taking note of those accessories. it begs the question:: how many times has savior#looked at the mirror after being dressed up in snezhnaya and was unable to recognize her own reflection?? :'>#also shoutout to some details aine shared with me: 1) the face marks are inspired by weeping angels 2) the kokoshnik was traditionally worn#by married noblewomen BUT the veil was normally for unmarried women so savior's outfit can be seen as a form of compliance + rebellion#(though later on in history it became accepted for married women to also wear that veil. also my apologies if what i said is inaccurate)#lastly shoutout to savior's expression!! very poised and mysterious....due to her emotional state or pierro's rules on how to act as his#spouse in public?? we'll never know~ the first drawing hits even harder when you compare it to the next one!! such an interesting contrast~#savior in her plain attire. casual and domestic with a smile on her face....i'm guessing this is her pre-fatui version?? she looks so warm#and friendly. and i can definitely understand why pierro fell for her smile <3#also i fucking love the caption. sorry pierro but you are cursed to be a loser/ simp/ pathetic man in all of my fics and AUs xD#NOW ONTO GODDESS! SAVIOR AAAHHHH!! i love the greek goddess motifs. she looks so regal and awe-inspiring but in a different way from her#snezhnayan attire--archaic. divine. and more suited to her personal style.....yet both versions of her look so painfully isolated :'>#her blank eyes. emotionless face. and veil give me the vibes of a spooky victorian ghost...or would a statue/ portrait be more fitting??#the lack of a necklace is also an interesting design choice given what happens in the fic. and now i realized i forgot to comment on your#version of her snezhnayan necklace oops. similar to the kokoshnik and earrings. the size + grandeur makes it impossible to ignore#that and big jewels = expensive af. ohhh and i love the sparkles on her veil!! pierro rlly spared no expense in dressing up his wifey <3#it's also funny how all of these outfits are similar to my own version in terms of 'savior wore grand clothing during her glory days as a#goddess -> wore simple attire after her decline for practicality and to blend in with humans/ disassociate from her old identity -> is now#dressed in even grander clothing as the harbinger's spouse. but it's used to reinforce her new identity and pierro's control over her'#tldr:: your design is so creative and i can see the effort you put in analyzing her character and depicting her based on your interpretatio#thank you for being my mutual + reader and i hope we can share even more harbinger/darling brainrot in the future :>

The Many Illustrators of A Tale of Two Cities 16: Richard M. Powers
...& I've saved the spookiest of this month for last...
Richard M. Powers was an illustrator best known for his many, many illustrations for the covers of science fiction novels.
For this last week of the spooky subseries, we look at his work on this 1962 edition of A Tale of Two Cities.
(As a brief note, some of the images have a blur in the edges of the pages - this is because the book was huge and barely fit on my scanner.)
"The figures of a horse and rider came slowly through the eddying mist, and came to the side of the mail, where the passenger stood."
"'Now your dinner is done,' Carton presently said, 'why don't you call a health, Mr. Darnay; why don't you give your toast?'"
"He threw out a gold coin for the valet to pick up, and all the heads craned forward that all the eyes might look down at it as it fell. The tall man called out again with a most unearthly cry, 'Dead!'"
"It lay back on the pillow of Monsieur the Marquis. It was like a fine mask, suddenly startled, made angry, and petrified.'"
"He had a strong idea that the coffin he had seen was running after him; and pictured as hopping on behind him, bolt upright, upon its narrow end."
"'I make a circuit by the prison, on my way to my work. There I see him, high up, behind the bars of a lofty iron cage, bloody and dusty as last night.'"
"The Château was left to itself to flame and burn."
"'We have borne this a long time,' said Madame Defarge, turning her eyes again upon Lucie. 'Judge you! Is it likely that the trouble of one wife and mother would be much to us now?'"
"'Her eyes were dilated and wild, and she constantly uttered piercing shrieks, and repeated the words, "My husband, my father, and my brother!" and then counted up to twelve, and said, "Hush!"'"
"The two stand in the fast-thinning throng of victims, but they speak as if they were alone. Eye to eye, voice to voice, hand to hand, heart to heart, these two children of the Universal Mother,"
And so we close out October. I've been so looking forward to sharing all three of these sets here this month - I hope you've enjoyed as much as I have!
& the standard endnote for all posts in this series:
This post is intended to act as the start of a forum on the given illustrator, so if anyone has anything to add - requests to see certain drawings in higher definition (since Tumblr compresses images), corrections to factual errors, sources for better-quality versions of the illustrations, further reading, fun facts, any questions, or just general commentary - simply do so on this post, be it in a comment/tags or the replies!💫

the problem with neurodivergence is when you are very intensely interested in a non-important detail of something popular which means you can’t find any content for it because no one else is looking at the fucking background
#text post tag#thinking about building interiors and reminded of how much i love victorian style stuff#and wishing i just had tons of pictures of the interior of the mansion from Abigail#and also more shots of the apartments in dead boy detectives#but no one else has this specific kind of interest so it’s hard to find pictures of it 😭😭😭😭😭

Here we are– you are the first of the 4 in which I completed. MSpaint spooky/thoughtful Cayin doodle. It was fun deciding on what to do. Hope you enjoy, Croc. Hope you don’t mind that I was feeling BB Cayin <3
// AAAAAAAAAAAHHH this is so lovely!! You nail his style perfectly, this came out so cool. Thank you Cat!!
#submission#Your art is always a joy- and when it's about the snake gentleman himself I just feel so lucky ;u; <3#don't mind it being BB Cayin at all! ER may have been my focus lately but I still think a lot about the Victorian snek with a hat#plus you capture him so perfectly#also I have to say I'm a huge fan of your usual artstyle but I also really dig the rougher style of your MSpaint doodles!#this could be a portrait for when you talk to him in a very stylish point-and-click adventure game#the way the lines frame him. The way you incorporate the white into his dark clothing and his overall pose her#is such a cool mood#if you make the image smaller and the pixels become more pencil drawing-like it feels like a small illustration over a tabletop statline#or a quest's description#in other words your art just gets the thoughts in my brain moving and I really like that!#the small touch of the colored bow on his ponytail is a neat detail too#and you know what I kinda love the way that warm sepia-ish tone feels#and you know what I kinda love the way that warm sepia-ish circle in the back could be the moon or the sun depending on how you look at it#because it plays really nicely into the duality of Cayin's shadowy style with the theme of the sun for Yig#gives a bit of an Autumn vibe to the picture too :y#but yes I could go on- love it. Love it to bits 8]#hexenjagd#friend art
