How did the Indian Premier League teams get the naming conventions that they have? They sound similar to America’s CITYNAME-MASCOT convention, except the ‘MASCOT’ tends to be more abstract. And there’s nary a “Delhi CC” (Cricket club) or “Delhi United” or any other team, as far as I can tell, patterned after European soccer, which is what I would have expected.

Hi, great question! I don't know enough about the naming conventions to actually give a comprehensive answer, so I'll just share the two things I do know.

The business model for the IPL (and subsequent national leagues that recruit internationally) is based on the American NFL, hence the cheerleaders and obnoxious gimmicks. Foreign and domestic investment has been hugely encouraged by the government and the IPL, which is why everything is sponsored and/or gets an ad break. It's also likely where the naming pattern you noticed comes from.

I know some of the clubs in the past have mismanaged finances or otherwise been in legal trouble and had to change their team names (and, presumably, the legal entity under which they're established).

But my main bugbear, which I'm sure you'll agree is completely reasonable and not at all obsessing over a relatively meaningless part of the game, is that there is seemingly no imagination or actual thought applied to these naming decisions:

Delhi Capitals is just lazy. Why are Mumbai Super Giants? No one knows. Gujerat Titans?? I know they keep winning shit and Modi put up that ridiculous statue but, really? We're not even going for alliteration here? They also have an ugly-ass logo.

Rajasthan Royals is the only acceptable name imo. Alliteration and allusion to state history. Bingo.

It's kind of devastating to play pathologic as a mixed native person. I started this game with a growing connection to a character that was just like me. Trying to reconnect with his culture in all the ways that make sense to him, despite the feeling of not belonging as a Menkhu or Russian person.

And as the game unfolds you begin to realize whether or not IPL intended it, the Diurnal ending is shown to be the "good one". the slow genocide of a people is cemented by your hands, and the destruction of the kin's culture is seen as a sad but ultimately good thing for "progress". All your friends are alive, the entire game is cast in a warm glow, the overall atmosphere is hopeful.

Don't get me wrong I love pathologic. It's perfect balance of bleakness and hope shrouded in struggle is a game experience I will never forget. However the game's ending is so unabashedly insensitive in its way of depicting native people that I can't help feeling disappointed and even sad. I thought there would be a character like me who learns to accept both sides of himself but instead he takes from his own people only to betray them in the end.

In a sea of insensitive depictions of native people that depict them as savages and unwelcome in the place they literally live in. Pathologic does nothing to change or "progress" past these horrible depictions

To make it short, i think they respect each other upbringings and cultures enough to do both.

First of all, since we already have a concrete idea of what a wedding to the Kin is — which is the sacrifice of a Herb Bride in order to wed her to the Earth — there might be a need for an alternative ritual for the declaration of eternal companionship. I think of it as a dance still but not where one is caressing the Earth, but showing her the connection of two people. Of how they complement each other through dance (earthly tango of sorts). As if a silent song of movement and fabric. And so to add even more meaning to the Kin's dance.

Though, frankly speaking, i have a big grudge with such bare (hehe) selection of clothing ipl gave to the Kin. I doubt all the festivities and ceremonies wouldn't require special kind of wardrobe. Atleast for the sake of convenience. (Ohh how i'd love to draw all the different jewelry and accessories the herb brides would wear and everything and anything....)

I pretty much looked for the same cultures which were used for the creation Kin's language ( Tibetan, Mongolian, Buryat ) to imagine my own idea of such costumes. These people have such gorgeous headwear and bright fabrics and beautiful embroidery, I can't be doing it justice with my art. My main goal was to make the costumes use mainly head accessories and visually light materials so the gays can move and dance freely. But thanks to this little question i might draw more of it and maybe even post it!!!!!

All in all, 5/10 execution cause i'm too stupid for beautiful clothes these are literally so pretty i want to stare at it :c
