I’m a night late (because I was too tired to figure out how splatnet photo saving worked lol) but I wanted to share some of my photos from Grand Fest, as well as get a bit sappy about the whole thing <3

Even if I basically never talk about it, Splatoon has been such an important part of my life for literally almost a decade now. It’s actually the reason I’m on Tumblr to begin with, since I followed some artists here from DA whose Splatoon 1 art I absolutely adored. (What’s even crazier is that they all still post sometimes! Like we are all still here after 8-9 years that’s kinda crazy.) It’s a funny online fandom origin story (at least for my standards), but considering how much Splatoon there was in my brain when I was 12, it also makes sense. Like, my bedroom is literally painted blue with an orange accent wall because of Splatoon, that’s how deep this went lol

Splatoon 3 has been basically everything I ever dreamed of when I was younger, because now not only can the game put on events like this, I had a ton of friends to experience it with, which I didn’t have in such abundance back in middle school! @sl33pyr3v3ri3 (5th pic) and @verypinkgirl (7th pic) were my buddies on Team Past, but having vc solidarity with friends in Teams Present and Future was also incredibly fun, even if I’m a sore winner and loser lmao. I love you all so very much, and thank you for all the fun times with this silly game 💖

Getting to rep the Squid Sisters on Team Past and then actually win the whole fest was more than I ever could have hoped for, and I think that my younger self would be incredibly proud of us! GGs to the other teams, and I hope we’ll all meet again in Splatoon 4!!

jigen: made fun of people for using snipers in a baby game and then got that violent, evil rush of adrenaline sitting on top of the center of wahoo world and changed his tune a little. offended by the implication he’d need a zoom scope in, again, a baby game. now the goo tuber may look doofy as hell but its jigen so. watch out. he’s like built for this. uses the missiles with a downright evil vengence

fujiko: fast fire rate means big coverage and easy kills. aerospray rg. gotta have it in gold of course! besides, she works better getting much closer to the target in question, so the lack of range hardly hinders her like at all. this was like the easiest ever out of all of these i knew this one first!! she knows the stereotypes of aerospray users sucking! she does not give a shit! you can cry about her taking the ‘easy way out’ all you want she’s still getting that #1 overall splatter medal every damn time !

goemon: it’s too easy to say splatana. it’s too easy. no i'm. its too easy sorry no. in fact i don’t even want to imagine the shouting at the tv that would transpire when he sees that those things literally just go up and down. he loves his diagonal swipes. so let’s go with rollers. goemon (ironically, since he has the highest body count i'm sure) focuses more on paint coverage than actual splatting so. yeah. let’s say big swig just cuz its funny to imagine him running around with that big ass thing

zenigata: just kind of bashes buttons without a full strategy, so brush. any of them. this was also very very easy to determine! the important part is the aggressive swiping over and over and over again. long past the point of death. let’s just say the standard inkbrush, he got used to it quickly and the giant speakers of death fucking rock. you KNOW he loves that shit!!!

Yeah no i totally agree!!! Splatfests are supposed to be a fun joke rivalry amongst all us fans where we get to have fun and paint things! It's like a festival!!! It's for fun!!!!!

I will never understand people who get genuinely upset about these. If you're not having fun: take a break! Too many gold aerosprays back to back? Take a break! Tired of too much turf war? Take a break? Seen the 200th missile spamming reeflux of the splatfest? Take. A. Break!!!!!! The whole point is to have a good time! If ya aren't having a good time you aren't doing it right!

I'll admit i don't have fun after a certain point of playing way too much turf back to back. So i just stop playing for a bit and have fun doing smth else and then when i want to play again i do. This blog has honestly been great for that cuz in those moments where i really like the idea of splatoon but am not actively having fun playing it i can come and work on edits!

And honestly i will never understand ppl who get genuinely mean over stuff like this. I have lost so many splatfests recently (dark chocolate, aliens, wisdom, mint chip, love) but i still look forward to splatfests every time! Winning or losing doesn't matter to me. Sure i like winning, but honestly sometimes losing is funnier. And like the memories of the splatfest and everything that happened in the community during that time is way more fun to look back on then a win. I like all the silly jokes. I like the joking rivalries. I like the hesitant alliances. I like the squid party mirror matches. I like the joking insults. I don't care about who actually wins or loses.

“Come on, the voting boxes have been open for an entire week now! And the Splatfest starts in only a few hours!” Magolor practically dragged you by your arm to pledge your loyalty one of the three teams and to pick up your Splatfest Tee.

“Alright, alright! What even are the options this fest, anyways?” You asked. Magolor just stared at you for a good, long moment.

“You… haven’t heard? They finally gave us the fest we all predicted! It’s an ice cream themed fest— vanilla versus strawberry versus mint chip.”

You cocked your head to the side. “Interesting how they’d listen to us for once,” You smiled. “What team are you gonna choose, Magolor?” You added as you two approached the voting kiosk.

“Easy!” Magolor began typing in the player ID that was displayed on his splashtag. “I’m Mint Choco. How about you?”

You hummed, watching Magolor’s Splatfest tee be dispensed at the bottom of the kiosk. He then stepped to the side, allowing you to move forward and begin your selection. You typed in your player ID, and Magolor eagerly looked over your shoulder to see your choice.

You selected your team, and Magolor facepalmed.

“Vanilla? Really?!” He shook his head as you began laughing. “Whaaat?? It’s a classic, we get white ink, and Shiver is really cool!” You protested.

“[Name], you know that means we’ll be going against each other, right?” Magolor tried to hide his disappointment and looked down.

You frowned. “Magolor… don’t give me that face…” You looked around the kiosk area before taking a deep breath. “It’ll just be friendly competition, alright?” You decided maybe the best way to get him to perk up again was to tease him. “Are you just scared your team is gonna lose?”

“What-?! No!” You could’ve sworn that you saw him blush a bit.

“Then prove it to me by fighting hard for your team! And who knows, maybe we’ll come across each other in a match?” You cheered, and Magolor regained his determination.

“Right! I’ll go grab my splatling now, then! See you later, [Name]!” And with that, both you and Magolor rushed off to change your clothes and grab your weapons.

All was going well, and you were having a lot of fun! You kept going, match after match after match. Until eventually, when the splashtags showed on the side screens…

Oh NO.

You had hyped up Magolor earlier, but you knew damn well that he and his hydra splatling were absolutely KILLER. It would be a real challenge that you’re not on the same side as he.

Before you could think any further, you heard the “GO!” sound effect and was launched onto the map.

The map was Scorch Gorge. You and your teammates split up: The carbon roller stayed back to paint base, the aerospray mg took the left, and the painbrush took the right. You, however, were only left with one choice: Taking the middle.

You gripped your weapon and gulped before going for the center build. And lo-and-behold, Magolor was running over the grates to get to the center too.

A thought struck you like an e-liter, and you smiled mischievously. You would surprise Magolor, just to shake him up a little. You held your squid surge against the side of the center build, and waited.

After a few seconds, Magolor made it to the top of the center build and began inking it. But when you jumped up to surprise him, he immediately began charging his booyah bomb.

“Ah, shit…” You said to yourself as you squid rolled out of the center of the map. You made the mistake of looking back, to which you saw Magolor smirk and stick his tongue out at you before launching his booyah bomb…

directly at you.

SPLAT!

Once you respawned on the map, you smiled with malicious intent, albeit nervously. “Oh it is SO on!” You shouted as you charged back for the center. Before you reached the midpoint you made sure your special was charged, and launched it specifically at Magolor.

This went back and forth for the whole game, until the whistle sounded to mark the end of the turf war.

Everyone turned to Judd and Lil Judd except for you and Magolor. You two smirked at each other, waiting to boast to the other about who won the so-called “friendly match”.

Judd and Lil Judd took a good look at the map, and…

Lil Judd held up the teal flag. Team Mint Choco had won this turf war, meaning Magolor won!

You sighed, and hauled up your weapon to leave the lobby and take a break. However, Magolor rushed away from his team to find you.

“Hey! [Name]! Wait up!” He ran after you, to which you stopped and turned around. “Hm? Come to brag or something?” You half smiled.

“No, no, not at all. I actually wanted to say that you put up a really good fight. And…” He blushed in embarrassment. “You were right. It was really fun fighting against you for a change.”

Your eyes widened. “…Did you just learn that phrase?” You teased.

“SHUT UP!” Magolor smacked your arm as you laughed.

“Hehehey! Just being honest, Mags!” You countered.

“Right, whatever. Anyways, wanna go grab something to eat? I heard that there’s this really good food bar by the lobby, and I think you’d like it.” Magolor offered. You smiled and nodded.

“Sure! Let’s go,” You instinctively grabbed his hand. He began blushing, and you tilted your head to the side in confusion. Upon realizing your grip on his hand, you too turned red and immediately pulled your hand away.

“Sorry! I didn’t–“ “It’s okay. I… kinda liked it.”

You two walked to the food stand, Crab-N-Go, and decided to share a pescatariat royale.

“You’ve got something on your face,” You said with your mouth full, and wiped the piece of lettuce off his cheek. “Hey! Don’t speak with your mouth full! It’s rude!” Magolor said as he went against his own words, also guilty of talking before swallowing. You both began laughing as you took a sip of your drink to wash down the meat of the dish.

“You’re so cute, you know that?” Magolor asked. You stopped in your tracks, having not expected to hear such thing from the mage. Your face became even redder than before, having already been cherry tinted from all your giggling.

“No I’m not,” You denied as you looked away, trying to hide your blushing face. Magolor turned your head to look at him and lifted your chin to be closer to himself. What was in that pescatariat royale? It sure must be something with him acting–

You were cut off as his kissed you.

On the lips.

Your face may as well have been an advertisement for Team Strawberry with how pink you looked. Magolor realized what he has just done, and his eyes went wide.

“I’m sorry! I just– I don’t know what– I can–“ He cut himself off as he hid his face in his hands. You had to admit, you had feelings for him for a while. Yet, you pushed them down to some dark place in yourself, somewhere they couldn’t come between what you and him already had.

You pulled his hands away from his face, took a deep breath, and kissed him back. Now he too was a blushing mess.

“So uh… wanna go watch Deep Cut’s live show?” You said with a sheepish smile. Magolor, still recovering from whatever-the-fuck-just-happened, nodded. You gave him a moment to process things, to which he thanked you for.

You two spent the rest of the night exploring Splatsville, and had a blast despite not being on the same team.

and its not even like shooters are completely favored or completely dominate either cause sploosh has 2 bad kits and aerosprays still a shit main weapon and so is splattershot pro and nova and the nozzlenoses and its not like we havent seen alternatives to shooters get ran like theres 3 viable non-shooter zookas and of course for cooler options we see snipewriter and tri-nouveau and for bubbler options we HAVE seen roller and i assume some zimi and of course nautilus and stamper just completely shelf shooters with how they dominate mid-ranged engagements. but it really does feel like shooters are given so much for how fucking Easy they are to pick up and for how Samey many of them and how Many of them there are and for how often when a patch rolls around it feels like alot of the love goes to shooters. like they made .52 gal and vshot 190p purposefully like that was a purposeful buff they did after the fact and they buffed the spread on splattershot and nzap when they REALLY didnt need it and they buffed the strafe speed on the junior when it really didnt need it and they buffed the jump rng on the jet squelcher that one time when it REALLY didnt need it. its just like they really favor shooters more than any other class and its annoying when ALOT of main weapons and kits still kind of. need attention. (dynamo and goo tuber and dread wringer and dapples and undercover and Most Blasters and Both Bows cause they stink, and thats just MAIN weapon wise like theres still alot of specials that could absolutely be tweaked)

General Opinion: Ngl probably my favorite reboot character? She carried the second season of the reboot with Julia, and is just really fun in general!

I love Splatoon 3! The new season has been very fun so far imo. Do you have a main weapon or weapon class? I started as an exclusive sploosh-o-matic main from when I played 2 but eventually started trying dualies and now I'm mainly a dapple dualies nouveau user but use aerospray and sploosh sometimes too. Very much a mobile painter! Love to cover that turf 😎 splats are a bonus if I manage to get em lol

Splatoon 3 Drizzle Season Weapon Usage!

While I had core weapons and phases, I started my goal of getting 1 star on every weapon. For phases, I started off using the Tri-Stringer a lot, then picking up the Aerospray again from my good old Sapltoon 1 days. I used Flingza for Splat Zones and E-Liter for Clam Blitz and a little bit of Rainmaker. i love my Ink Mines.

Weapon breakdown:

At the end of the season I started falling in love with the Heavy and Hydra Splatlings, which I hadn't used much outside of Salmon Run before.

I want to see if I can remember to keep records of this after each season to see how my weapon usage changes. It changed a lot during and between Splatoon 1 and 2, and continues to do so in 3. Maybe one day I will understand Blasters. With 3, I understand Duelies and the Heavy and Hydra Splatlings much better now!
