For the character ask game: Teyla!
questions 3, 12, and 20 please ☺️
character ask game
ooh teyla my beloved!!!
3. Least favorite canon thing about this character?
honestly hate that they made teyla a mom. like don't get me wrong i love torren and the whole team protectiveness of him but idk i just. teyla does not feel like a Mom Character and i get why they did it but idk i just. idk it felt forced to me and i never loved that story arc (we were also ROBBED of learning more about her culture but that's a rant for another time)
12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?
this ties in heavily with my last point lmao but i think teyla didn't want to be a mother, and had no plans to, but because she literally just lost her people when she finds out she's pregnant, i really genuinely believe she made the decision to keep the baby simply out of a duty to her people. her child could very well have been the last athosian, and teyla has too much of a responsibility to her people- she puts their best interests above her own so often and i fully believe that's why she chose to keep the baby
20. Which other character is the ideal best friend for this character, the amount of screentime they share doesn't matter?
i'm fucking obsessed with her and rodney being absolute gossip queens, they know EVERYTHING that is going on in the city at all times and they drive ronon and john crazy on long jumper trips because they spend the entire time gossiping. they're so bitchy and judgemental together and i'm forever obsessed with them

miscellaneous stargate atlantis thoughts! i've made it to 'the real world' episode and it's so good so far! unfortunately in an effort to go to sleep at a reasonable hour i had to stop watching halfway through but i'm really interested in seeing what's really going on. i'm very interested in how things with the replicators develop. to me the wraith as the Main Villains was getting kind of repetitive so it's nice to have something new. also if 'sateda' is any indication it seems like season 3 might give us a little more on our main characters. i really enjoy this show and it's a great reminder of why i love sci fi so much :)

Teylabeth Week goes into its third round!
For everyone who is new to this or unsure what this is about, let me clear things up:
What is Teylabeth Week? Teylabeth week is a week during which we celebrate the ship of Teyla Emmagan/Elizabeth Weir more than usual, a week where we show our love and appreciation of this ship.
When is Teylabeth Week? Teylabeth Week 2024 will take place between June 3.-9.
How can I participate? There are many ways you can participate! By writing fanfic, making fanart, writing meta, editing, collaging, cosplaying, giffing, whatever seems right to you to celebrate this ship!
I don’t really write/make art/feel comfortable with sharing anything, can I still participate? Of course! This week lives through people who engage with the contributions! Go through the Teylabeth tag, engage with posts and fanart, comment on fics, the sort of things that keep fandoms alive!
Are there rules to the contributions? No rules! Everything is allowed! But please make sure that your contributions are tagged accordingly (ratings on ao3 as well as content warnings) so people can filter them out! Also, since this is Teylabeth week, the contributions should center around Teylabeth <3
Is there going to be a fic exchange? No, there isn’t.
Are there going to be prompts? Yes, indeed! You can find the prompts below.
Are the prompts binding? Absolutely not! They are meant as inspiration should you need it! You can do as many or as few prompts as you like, or none at all if your ideas are taking your elsewhere!
Is there going to be an ao3 collection? Yes! I will share the link in time!
Anything else I should know? Please tag your posts on social media with “Teylabeth Week 2024” so they can be found by everyone!
I still have questions, where can I direct them? To me! Simply sent me an ask or a message :)
Tumblr media
Thank you so much for your help with coming up with these prompts @kira-nerys-rocks and L.
Happy creating!
Reblogs are super duper appreciated!

Epiphany, Pt. 19
Even if touch (friendly or otherwise) was something that Sheppard approved of or even tolerated from Weir generally, right now he does not want her to touch him. Sheppard is hurt by their perceived abandonment and because he does not know to express that -- he has no tools to deal with it -- he lashes out in anger, his heckles most definitely raised. Weir seems to receive the message, keeping her hands to herself as he shouts at them in lieu of greeting. But let us note the fact that she too violated his consent here because her own need to feel him was stronger than her regard for what he wants and needs right now. By staying back and helping Teyla up from the ground, McKay was again displaying his superior knowledge of Sheppard, his ability to read him.
Tumblr media
Sheppard: What the hell took you so long? Weir: Believe it or not, you were only gone a couple of hours. Sheppard: Try six months! McKay: You don't understand, you've been trapped in a time dilation field.
What is more, Sheppard is afraid. He had been flooded with terror when Teer had told her that his loved ones were here and the beast was upon them. Seeing them, it was only now that he could afford to actually feel the fear, having been focused only on getting to them in time until now. He had literally had no time to think a single thought when he had lunged at the beast, acting on pure instinct.
Able to now see his distress Weir attempts to placate him, holding her hand up as though to calm that skittish animal. But note that we see her and McKay basically do the same thing, they both try to calm him down using their hands here, but Weir says the wrong thing (she is dismissive of his experience when it is not the time for that), where McKay manages to say the right thing. Sheppard needed an explanation for why they had left him alone and that is what McKay starts giving him right away. But the fact that we see McKay and Weir side by side here doing the same thing toward Sheppard is intentional. It is curious that even when they are doing the same exact thing, their gender influences how people perceive their actions, how their characters are interpreted.
Tumblr media
Sheppard: What? Beckett: What was that bloody thing? Sheppard: I don't know. What's a time dilation field? Weir: Can we talk about this somewhere else? Teyla: No, it is still close.
Sheppard's first question is honest confusion. He did not understand what McKay had just said but like we have seen so many times in the past, Sheppard needs McKay to explain things to him. And we have seen McKay become quite competent at explaining things in a way that Sheppard is able to understand because McKay, although not very good at reading people generally, is able to intuit what Sheppard needs better than anyone.
But before McKay can answer, Beckett interrupts him with a question of his own, overloading Sheppard's mind because he is trying to so hard to understand what is going on here. And so his second question to McKay -- and yes, both questions were meant for him because it is from McKay that he wants to hear this -- is much more insistent, his frustration over not understanding clear in his tone. And we see McKay launch into an explanation (and although they all struggled to understand what had happened, not one of them had asked this question before), in stark contrast to how he had told Ronon that he did not have time to explain temporal compression theory to him where for Sheppard he has all the time in the world, and not just because they are inside the field now. But Weir interrupts him before he can even get started, even though Sheppard's tone had made it clear that he needed to understand this.
Not only does Sheppard look at McKay during most of this exchange, which is only natural because it is to McKay he is looking for answers, but note that when Teyla points out that the beast is still near-by, they look at each other for a pretty long time, neither of them saying anything. This is an example of that wordless communication of theirs, of that bond that is deeper than words. And like so many times before, the fact that they are looking at each other is obscured by the fact that they are in different frames. Weir, on the other hand, tries to exchange a look with Sheppard but the only thing we see is him turning his face away from her and toward McKay, having only glanced at her for the time that she had been speaking. Otherwise, his focus is entirely on McKay and there was definitely something that was communicated between them as McKay was already looking away when he caught Sheppard looking at him, and just as soon as we see Sheppard break the gaze he looks down, seeming to process something. As though he was not quite sure what it had been that he read off of McKay.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dex: You've fought this thing before? Sheppard: Twice. Dex: How did you beat it?
Teyla was correct and the beast reappears, and it is not clear whether she senses the thing due to her own special brand of the shining, she is somehow exceptionally in control of her own fear, or it is just her instinct as a warrior. Regardless, the composition of the scene is interesting here. As they hear the beast behind them, Sheppard whirls around to look for it and we see his body block McKay. He is standing in front of McKay to an extent that we can barely see him from behind Sheppard, it is as though McKay is obscured by him. But you might say that this does not mean that Sheppard is using his body to shield McKay in particular (being that he is not the weakest member of the group and most in need of protection here), just as he had for Avrid previously, because the beast then appears on the opposite side of them, throwing McKay to the foreground.
Only, as this happens Sheppard actually walks in front of McKay, shielding him with his body again. He is not doing it by accident. He very much makes his way to stand in front of McKay, and the fact that McKay then decides to go around Teyla because he wants to stand side by side with his team here does not change the fact that Sheppard very much did it, clearly intentionally. He steps around Weir, making sure not to brush against her, walks very close to McKay, and has his body angled toward McKay the whole time -- in contrast to how he had his body angled away from Teer when Teer had come to stand with him against the beast.
Tumblr media
This does not keep happening on accident. There are coincidences and then there is sheer lack of pattern recognition. Sheppard's instinct is to shield McKay with his own body, to protect him with his life. McKay just has different ideas, as he wants to stand side by side with Sheppard and face what ever it is together, he does not want to be standing behind the other man. And here we see the entire team take a stand together against fear itself, and suddenly Sheppard is at home even though they are still far away from Atlantis.
Tumblr media
Sheppard: Still haven't figured that out. Dex: Now'd be a good time. Sheppard: Yeah. What do you say we just fight it and see what happens? Weir: John? Friends of yours?
The Lanteans are joined by the villagers that quietly make their way around them. Weir is the first to notice them, sounding oddly judgemental about Sheppard having not spent his six months in complete solitude but actually having had human company. However, her reaction seems to be general. McKay, on the other hand, looks behind him at her words and seems to zero in on the fact that there has been something more than friendliness going on. He literally notices Teer immediately. And what is more, he notices Avrid.
But let us note the fact that when Weir tries to get Sheppard's attention by speaking his given name, he actually first looks at McKay. He turns his face toward McKay hearing the name John, and has to then swivel his head to the opposite direction to see who actually had been speaking to him, again seeming to confirm that McKay has been calling him John. Also as Sheppard was talking shop with Ronon, glancing to him as they were speaking, he kept returning his attention to McKay, turning his body back to him. We see his shoulder go way back as he just needs to have his torso facing not the monster growling in front of them but McKay. It seems as though Sheppard just really, really wants to keep his attention on McKay.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Avrid: We've come to stand with you, whatever happens. Teer: No, we've come to fight. And we are not afraid of you. The Beast is of our own creation, and it is long past time we sent it away.
Avrid and Teer come to stand on either side of Sheppard, and this is symbolic. It seems as though Sheppard's tough love hard worked after all, and he had been able to reach the villagers. It's OK to be scared. Let us note that Teer is standing here partially blocking Weir and Avrid is next to McKay. We see a part of McKay's face as Avrid steps forward, looking at him from the corner of his eye and although McKay only mentions ascended women -- he could hardly make any other kinds of insinuations in public -- he most definitely also noticed what ever had been going on between Sheppard and Avrid. We can only see the corner of his eye for a brief moment and in this time, this small gesture is enough to show us that McKay can not only tell that something has been going on between Sheppard and these people, but also that he does not like it. And let us be honest -- it is not Sheppard making new friends that he has a problem with, unlike Weir. And Teer also seems to be upset here in a fashion that is not explained by Sheppard's old friends come take him away from them.
Let us also note the fact that even though we see Teer and Sheppard standing side by side, they have framed the shot so that the two of them are there together as though that is supposed to be meaningful, Sheppard is keeping his body turned toward McKay this whole time, and away from her (like he did when they had stood together against the beast in the village). Even when he, again, glances at her as she is speaking, his whole entire body is turned toward McKay. And not a little but a lot. As the villagers start advancing on the beast, we see that Sheppard has raised one leg, resting it on higher ground and his pelvis, his soft and vulnerable parts, are pointing directly at McKay. Teyla is technically (and on purpose) placed between them but it is obvious that it is not her Sheppard orients himself toward and around. He has been bereft of this man for six months, he could not turn away if he wanted to. He has been without his True North for such a long time that he has to rearrange his whole existence again around the sun that his planets revolve. Also note how his white tunic is pulled open here, revealing the t-shirt underneath in close-up, still bunching at the chest because it is too big for him.
Also, there is most definitely a look being exchanged here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There is nothing strictly warranting a look between them here but again, some information seems to flow between them. Their eyes meet just as Teer is passing out of the shot, we only see McKay's head very briefly behind her as their eyes meet so the look is again concealed, it is obscured. But it is there. McKay does not know what is going on, he does not understand even a little bit, but he is trusting that Sheppard does, that Sheppard will explain all of this to him just as he is going to explain the temporal displacement field to him. He trusts that all of this is going to make sense because he trusts Sheppard.
Tumblr media
And so Sheppard watches the villagers kill their own fear using the courage that they had learned from him, and it is fitting that he is standing here next to the man that had taught him how to kill his own fear, who had taught him a thing or two about courage and bravery. The beast vanishes and during his whole entire scene Sheppard does not turn his body one inch away from McKay.
When you actually take a look, it is not difficult to see who Sheppard is oriented toward, who his world revolves around. Out of all of the people gathered around them, it is obvious which one is the most important to him, who among them he would take a bullet for. And again, this is just way too consistent not to have been done on purpose.

911 often makes me think about Stargate. It draws on a lot of the same ingredients that made those shows compelling to me, especially the found family team bonds in a setting of constant high stakes danger.
I have this half formed Stargate: Atlantis fusion idea that keeps floating around in my brain, where the 118 is a specialised extraction team whose primary mission is to provide support and rescue to other gate teams in distress. They become informally known as Gate Team 911, which Rodney snarks about since this is allegedly an international mission until John points out 911 is the emergency number in Canada too. And then Teyla wants them to explain exactly how emergency calls work and Elizabeth has to introduce her to Maddie Buckley in communications who actually used to be an emergency dispatcher, and who just so happens to be the sister of team 911's Evan Buckley.
I don't know I don't have much more than the basic concept but I love the idea of the 118 doing basically the same thing they do in this universe except now they're exploring the galaxy while they do it.

I’ve finally finished the incredible show that is Stargate Atlantis and I. Have. Thoughts.
Tumblr media
I watched Vegas and Enemy at the Gates together (on the advice of my sga leader @lightthewaybackhome) and I’m so happy I did.
So Vegas feels like a different show entirely, from the filming to the characters. Sheppard does not seem like Sheppard nor does anyone else. They’re all darker, more broken versions. My heart was just broken the whole time, but I didn’t cry until I saw Rodney though. This is the Rodney without his Sheppard to guide him and help him. This is the Rodney who lets Keller pass him by. This is the Rodney that lets Sheppard go alone. This is Rodney without a Sheppard that lit up Atlantis (this is honestly worse than last man but it’s a good parallel).
Tumblr media
This is the Sheppard that goes alone on yet another suicide mission because he’s lost everything anyway…and then he dies. While Johnny Cash’s “Solitary Man” plays. Because that’s who Sheppard is, not the man in black saving the world with his people, but the solitary man who is alone without a home and no chance to be healed. And yet still he sacrifices himself and is brave and dies saving the world. Sheppard becomes the action hero at the end of the movie that goes out guns blazing and, while it’s usually cool to see, this one just breaks our hearts.
And then we move to the finale and…oh! Sheppard is Sheppard again, and Rodney is Rodney and everyone is okay.
Tumblr media
And we see the parallels between the Vegas world and ours throughout the episode. Sheppard about to go on a suicide mission stops right at the last moment because Rodney’s voice breaks through the radio. The team is about to die blowing up the hive ship but stops because Atlantis is there in time to save them. Atlantis is lit up because of Sheppard. And then we see them all at the end. They’re happy, and alive and not broken.
And even though they aren’t fully healed, cause who ever is in this life, they’re on the path to healing. There’s hope, there’s light that has broken through the darkness (the way the show ends with the light piercing through the clouds is so beautiful in a literal and metaphorical sense like I’m sobbing).
There’s a couple lines from songs that my Sheppard told me about that is forever linked with SGA now. Ghosts That We Knew has a beautiful line, “So give me hope in the darkness that I will see the light”. Throughout the show there’s so much darkness and pain, but we stick through it with the team because there’s hope that it’ll be okay. There’s hope because John is there, because they’re all there right where they should be. It’s a beautiful metaphor for life.
And then there’s a song called Hospital for Souls. It’s mainly a Sheppard song, as he lets himself burn for his family, but it’s also how Atlantis is a hospital for all the broken souls and brings them together. It’s why Sam didn’t stay there long and Woolsey came on board. It’s why Ronon says at the end that he is home. It’s why Teyla chooses to stay and raise her son in Atlantis instead of her home world. Why Rodney waits 48000 years for Sheppard and why Sheppard realizes finally that he doesn’t have to die to be redeemed, that living and healing is possible for even him.
Tumblr media
It’s been a wonderful journey watching this show, it’s changed me, helped me grow and made me realize that healing is possible for even me. That a family is what you make it and they can be your hospital for your soul no matter how weary, broken or hurt.
I just love this show. I’m immediately gonna start rewatching it from the beginning because this. This is my family, my home. I’ve found myself in the darkness of Sheppard and the outlierness of Rodney. In the fierce love of Ronon and sisterly bond of Teyla.
I’m ever so grateful my friend got me to watch this, so happy that I went through the darkness into the light with my team, through tears and shouts of joy. I always said Supernatural would be the only show with this kind of life-changing, life-saving impact. But Stargate Atlantis now holds that honor too, this little, cheesy, ridiculously funny and terribly sad series has changed my life, helped me be the person I wanted to be for so many years but always struggled with (yeah I’m louder, complain more and am maybe a bit more annoying but gosh it’s more fun) and just generally helped me with so many endless things. And I’ve found some great friends and got closer to one of my best friends, aka my Sheppard lol.
Anyway, all this to say that this show is beautiful and incredible and please do yourself the honor of watching it but definitely bring tissues. Don’t worry too much about why they wear sneakers for like two seasons or their military tactics are off, but just enjoy the friendship, the humor, and how wonderful it shows that it doesn’t matter how messed up you are. How dark you’ve gotten or how many pieces of your soul you’ve sacrificed for others. You can be redeemed and healed and made whole. You can find people who love you despite your flaws and shortcomings. And you can find the light no matter how dark the world has become. You too can be home.

Of Magic, Miracles, and Moonlight
a Stephen Strange x OFC Romance
genre: pre-Infinity War, slow burn romance, older man/younger woman, teacher/student to friends to lovers characters: Stephen Strange, Wong, Teyla of Hadeeth (OFC), Moraine of Hadeeth (OC), additional OCs as Kamar-Taj staff rating: general audience to begin with, later chapters contain 18+ material
Ngl - I'm really hoping some of the authors in the Doctor Strange x Reader community will be kind enough to give this a read.🥺🥺 Even more so, a reblog - because I'm quite proud of my writing in this work, and I believe it deserves some love. Maybe some love could see me on my way to updating, even finishing, this WIP. It's lain fallow for far too long!
Tumblr media
Chapter One
“Stephen, it’s nearly time.”
Wong’s voice pulled him from his scrutiny of the thick, weathered tome that had become his latest project.  Since the passing of his mentor, the Ancient One, Stephen Strange was one of very few left in Kamar-Taj who made a regular practice of studying the advanced manuscripts, spell books, and obscure histories, which she had amassed during her centuries of service as the Sorcerer Supreme.  His eidetic memory served him equally well in this pursuit, as it had in his previous vocation; as one of the world’s most talented and successful neurosurgeons he had learned the lesson early on—that knowledge was power—though the power he sought now he would wield for a even nobler purpose than those of his previous life.
“Remind me, Wong…it’s nearly time for…” Stephen let his voice trail off with the question, focusing just a few moments more on the script marking the page before him.
“For the arrival of the emissary from Hadeeth, Stephen,” Wong replied, “As well you know.  Need I remind you that our alliance with Hadeeth goes back nearly four hundred years?”
“Not at all, Wong.  I’m acutely aware—down to the smallest minutiae—of the terms of our accord the with the Hadeethans, having familiarized myself with every scrap of parchment the Ancient One left behind, detailing the particulars of our relationship.”  Strange closed the leather-bound book before him, stretched a mite, and then rubbed thumb and forefinger upon his closed eyelids. “I’ve got a rotten case of eyestrain in the process, but I suppose I’m as ready for this as I can ever be,” he grumbled, “Although I’m not entirely certain why I have to be the one to meet with their envoy.  A Master with years of experience—and not one with barely twelve months--would surely make a better representative of Earth. Let alone Kamar-Taj.”
Refusing to be pulled back into the ongoing debate, Wong remained impassive.  “Of the Masters left in Kamar-Taj, you are the best qualified by virtue of your life experience.  And in the absence of a Sorcerer Supreme, a Master of one of our Sanctums is the best that we can offer.”
He clapped Stephen on the shoulder, “Accept that you’re destined for this bit of diplomacy, Stephen.  It can’t be anywhere near as complicated as navigating your way through the human brain to excise a pin point sized tumor.”
Strange rose to his feet, favoring Wong with a scowl, “As usual, Wong, your vote of confidence is underwhelming—but I will do my best not to provoke a diplomatic incident with an ally that has had Earth’s back for hundreds of years, and in some hairy situations.”
A young attendant placed the tray with fresh-brewed tea and a sampling of Nepalese delicacies on the low table before him.  Without a word, she filled a cup with the hot liquid, and set it down beside the pot, before sliding a plate of almond honey cakes closer at hand to him.  Stephen nodded, murmuring his thanks—though he was a little too nervous to partake of one of his favorite dishes.  Instead, he stirred a bit of honey into his tea, briefly reflecting on the first cup of honeyed tea he had partaken in this very room, barely more than a year ago.  With a shock to his system, he had been quickly educated as to how very much he did not know about the world, the universe, and the human mind and spirit; and since then, he had learned much more than he would ever had imagined of things he’d never even entertained as plausible.  He considered himself a work in progress, truly humbled for the first time in his life, when he took into account how much he still did not know.
Yet, he had earned the respect of his peers here and—just moments before her death--the Ancient One had appointed him Master of the New York Sanctum.  Strange took that responsibility ever seriously, having seen and experienced for himself the sort of assaults from other dimensions which Earth would be prey to were it not for the ancient protections provided by the band of sorcerers, bound in service to mankind.
The man he once was—before the accident that had deprived him of his livelihood, and the purpose by which he defined himself—Doctor Stephen Strange had the hubris to consider himself the best his specialty had ever known, and the ambition to pursue the loftiest positions of influence and power in his field.  Now, as he split his time between New York and Nepal, he was in a constant quest for knowledge that would enable him to do this job to the best of his ability, while never seeking glory for himself.  He would not—could not, in fact—allow himself to aspire to the title of Sorcerer Supreme…although more often than not these days, he was given--by some silent agreement (to which he was no party)--the deference and the responsibilities that came with that designation.  Today, he would prefer to be a mere rank and file mage—but he could not turn his back upon the service that was asked of him.
Stephen rose when Wong appeared in the entrance way, ushering a stately, robed woman into the room.  “Master Strange, allow me to present Mistress Moraine of Clan Kayolo, member of the Hadeethan Ruling Council,” Wong gave her a nod of respect, before moving to Stephen’s side.
Following the formal protocol which the Ancient One had chronicled, Strange bowed at the waist before speaking.  “Welcome to Kamar-Taj, Mistress Moraine of Hadeeth.  We are honored by your presence, and offer hospitality and friendship to you, and any others under your protection, for however long you sojourn here.”
She bowed in reply, and recited her opening remarks smoothly, her rich voice that of a woman accustomed to oratory, “The honor is mine, Sir.  On behalf of my people, and in the name of our alliance, I accept your hospitality, Master Strange.”  Moraine paused, studying him closely, before adding, “May the worlds we serve continue to benefit from our partnership.”
Strange motioned her to take a seat, then sat himself, while Wong moved forward to pour tea for the Hadeethan woman; the ensuing silence enough to allow Stephen an observation or two.  She was definitely dignified (royalty was the first word that came to his mind), aloof and otherworldly; she wore her thick, silver hair loose and unadorned, for surely nothing could flatter her more than it’s natural glory; and the only subtle sign of age he could discern, were small crinkles at the corners of her pale grey eyes--but since he knew the average Hadeethan lifespan was upwards of 150 Earth years, they gave no clue regarding her actual age.  There was a palpable feel of strength of will about her, as though her spine were made of steel.  Moraine appeared—in short—to be a power to be reckoned with.  He vowed to tread carefully regarding whatever topic she had arrived to discuss.
She sipped her tea, then nodded her approval, “Ah…it’s been far too long since I sampled this welcoming taste of Kamar-Taj.  Though I regret I shall never raise my cup with the Ancient One again.”
“Her loss remains a heavy one for us to bear, Mistress Moraine,” he replied, a truth he felt most keenly every day, “And nothing would make me happier than for her to be here in my place.”
“I bear the condolences of my people for the dread passing of a wise leader and constant ally,” she told him, “And for myself, I share in your grief; for I had known the Sorcerer Supreme from my youth—as a teacher, then a mentor, and at the last, a friend.”
“I envy you that,” he admitted, “We all miss her guidance—but we have done our best to go forward as we believe she would see fit.”
Moraine narrowed her eyes, looking for the truth in his reaction, “And you do not seek to guide in her place?  To bear the mantle she wore for centuries?”
Stephen shook his head vehemently, “I assure you, I am not that man.  And honestly, I can’t think of anyone who could fill her shoes.”
She nodded, pleased with his reply, than raised her cup.  “It is always so with the best of leaders.  May we all do her proud in the service we provide to our worlds.”
“May we indeed,” he echoed, drinking from his cup as well.

Formalities now aside, Moraine was swift to reveal the surprising purpose of her visit.  “I come on a personal matter, Master Strange.  ‘Tis my hope you will entertain my request, if not for the sake of relations between our worlds, but for she whom we both miss.”
“I am certain we can accommodate you, Mistress Moraine.  The resources of Kamar-Taj are at your service.”
“Even as I had anticipated,” she asserted, wearing a small relieved smile, “As you may know, Hadeeth has a good share of practitioners of the mystic arts.  And in our culture, this is a thing well-known, even aspired to.  In fact, by long standing tradition, the majority of those who sit on our ruling council are skilled in magic.”
Strange nodded, having gleaned those facts from the Ancient One’s notes, “Magic being the primary reason our worlds are well-suited as allies.”
Moraine bobbed her head in a brief acknowledgement, then continued, “On Hadeeth, we have found that the aptitude for magic, and the strength to wield it properly, are most prevalent in certain bloodlines.  As a result, it is not uncommon for a particular clan to hold a council seat for several generations.”
“I take it that is your own experience,” he inferred.
“It is, Master Strange.  But seats are not granted automatically—and those aspiring to them must pass a series of tests, unique to the individual.”
“And these tests involve the use of magic?”
“Exactly so—and thus arises my need for your assistance,” she admitted.
A bit perplexed, he might’ve asked, but Moraine had anticipated his question.  “Not for myself, Master Strange—for my daughter, Teyla.”  And then surprising him, she added, “A daughter of both our worlds.”
Not having known such a mingling of their races was even possible, it took a moment for him to respond, “You’re asking that we train her here, in Kamar-Taj?”
Moraine’s face took on a pleasant sort of softness, clear sign of the depth of her feelings for her child.  “She has ever been my greatest treasure, and from the moment in which I discerned that she possessed aptitude for the mystical arts, I had planned to entrust my own best teacher with her tutelage.”  She lowered her eyes, her voice become sorrow-tinged, “Who could have anticipated that such a plan would go unrealized?”
Stephen remained speechless, moved by her quiet show of grief.  In the months since the Ancient One fell, he had learned things about her he had never expected—always making him long for the fruits of the wisdom she might have shared with him.
Having set aside her sorrow, Moraine looked to him again, firm of purpose, “Teyla’s skill--her strength—lies in the healing of body, mind, and heart.  And though this ability is a miracle in itself, it does not suit well the sort of trials she is likely to face in the fullness of time.”
The doctor in him wanted to ask more of Hadeethan healing magic, but the situation would not allow for it—though he made a promise to himself to learn more of their practices when possible, with an eye towards the exchange of knowledge that might enable him to fulfill again that purpose of more than half his lifetime.  “What training would best prepare your daughter for these future trials?”
Moraine looked please at his show of willingness, “She will need to develop defensive skills, for both her own safety, and for those who may someday fall under her protection.”  She paused, gauging his reaction, and then concluded, “Teyla also possesses a small degree of prescience, although she is not yet capable of employing it at will.  She dreams, yet cannot tell when the images may come to pass; she has strong, yet unpredictable, flashes of intuition, which she finds difficult to interpret.  This gift is useless to her until she can cultivate the proper wisdom and discipline.”
“There are no teachers on Hadeeth that might guide her?” he asked, “Seers are rare, even in Kamar-Taj.  I can’t guarantee our knowledge is enough to guide her beyond the most rudimentary training.”
“They are rarer still, on Hadeeth,” Moraine shrugged, “So rare they come but a handful of times in each generation.  Though I am her mother, I haven’t even a touch of that gift.”
Stephen nodded, considering her request a moment.  “We will do our best, Mistress Moraine—but in this case, I can make no promise.”
“I understand, Master Strange.  And with this understanding, I will entrust you with Teyla’s further education.  For the sake of our alliance,” she reminded him, “And for all the hopes a parent has for their child’s safety and happiness.”
Tumblr media
They had concluded their meeting by settling upon three Earth days as the interval until Teyla would arrive at Kamar-Taj.  “Of course, we’ll need to see what magic your daughter is already capable of, before we proceed with any training plan,” he cautioned her, as he and Wong escorted her back to the courtyard for her departure.  “Please be sure she understands what lies ahead.”
“Oh, she is already more than prepared for that,” Moraine told him gratefully, “And she has spent a share of time on Earth--living with her father for several years--so you should find she will easily acclimate to your world.”  With that, she drew on her sling ring—the magical tool which the Ancient One had shared with the Hadeethans, in consideration of their partnership—and conjured a portal back to her home world.  Stephen could discern very little of what lay on the other side; a room half lit with what could be daylight, vague shapes that were likely Hadeethan furniture.
Moraine turned his way, and bowed low, and then rose to meet his eye.  “Please keep in mind, Master Strange, that some of the tests Teyla may come to face are dangerous.  I beg you to see she is properly prepared to survive, beyond the training I have already given her.  I will be in your debt, and Earth’s, for the remainder of my days—and look forward to the day when I can be of service to your world, in return.”  She stepped into the portal, and raised her hand in farewell, closing the circle before he could utter a word in reply.
“Well, this should prove interesting,” Wong observed, “How much experience do you have dealing with teenagers?”
“Barely to none,” Stephen confessed, “And I hadn’t counted on being asked to play a schoolmaster to a rookie sorcerer.”
Wong chuckled, amused at Strange’s befuddlement, “I’m thinking diplomacy will turn out to be child’s play, compared to the task you have ahead of you.”
“Yes,” Steven agreed grimly, heading back to the library to continue his studies of earlier. “And I’d much rather be navigating my way through the human brain, then babysit an angsty adolescent.”

Spoils of War

"If you had hesitated for even a moment" - Teyla.
I do so very much love Sheppard. I love that he didn't hesitate. I love that he's already saved Teyla's child. I love that even while he was benching Teyla, because who wants to be the guy who puts a child in danger, he was still Teyla's friend, still cared about her, still gave her space to sort herself out. I love that Sheppard knew before Teyla knew that she wouldn't be able to be on the front line anymore. I love that he still views her as part of the team even if she's not able to do what she once did.
I also love that Teyla grows and changes. She actually changes as she wrestles with everything it means to become a mother. I love that she realizes that she was wrong, admits it, and sees that she has changed direction. I love that she was once someone who would put herself in danger for her friends and now she's a mom protecting her child. She has become such a deep and strong character.
Also, I love that Todd got his name and I love Lorne congratulating Teyla and telling her she'll be a great mom.

I've been reading your commentary on the Home episode gifsets, and they're so intriguing - what are your general thoughts about how each of them make up the fake versions of each other in their scenarios?
hi hello tytyty
i love home so much!! it's so interesting to think about!!
i think that, while the mist people have access to everyone's perspective on themselves and on each other, each character's particular interaction with a fake version of another character has to be mostly based on that character's perspective in order for it to be believable for them. that sounds confusing.
rodney's fake!elizabeth has to mostly be based on what rodney believes elizabeth might do in order for him to buy it. if she was based on elizabeth's view of herself or even john's view of elizabeth, there would be more potential for rodney to poke holes in it.
the fact that rodney and elizabeth both imagine each other as the most practical and career-focused? version of each other is Fascinating. rodney's fake!elizabeth is wearing a suit and elizabeth's fake!rodney is wearing a labcoat, something neither of them ever really do in sga. BUT the two of them must both doubt the other's allegiance--rodney of elizabeth's ability to be a politician and her commitment to the IOA; and elizabeth of rodney's devotion to science.
ford seeing fake!rodney not caring about him fits into ford's view of rodney in general.
john is the Most Interesting imo
the easiest one for him to swallow is ford--who laughs at his jokes and looks up to him and his friends, but is otherwise one-dimensional.
he's so unsure of teyla the whole time. which also makes sense, since she's not fake, but everything she's experiencing is being filtered through john. and john is paranoid from the start.
but john's interaction with hammond!! he's never met that guy! hammond is a name in reports to him. possibly someone he hears the marines talking about. hammond must be based on other people's view of him, and john is immediately suspicious. he doesn't buy it at all.
not sure if any of this makes sense lol but it's fun to think about!

I went to Basingstoke Comic Con last Friday with my son Gregory - following a break in my chemo schedule due to emergency surgery resulting in fewer inside bits and an ileostomy. I'd thought I wouldn't be able to go - and it wasn’t easy, but I did it anyway.
Here’s what happened:
First I had my photo with Rachel Luttrell who was lovely and liked my feltie Teyla:
Tumblr media
Then my son took the role of photographer for me in my Impala cosplay with Baby herself (or one of them)!
Tumblr media
Then there were some strange clashes in the schedule - Stargate Q and A sessions when the Stargate guests were supposed to be signing autographs, so we weren’t sure who was going to turn up or how to be in two places at once.  But in the end, it worked to our advantage, because nobody else was sure either, and so when Joe and Rachel came along, there was hardly anyone else there so we got more time and more conversation than we would have.
Joe remembered me from the Wales Comic Con in 2021, which I definitely wasn’t expecting and he said he still had the little book of drawings I gave him there!  (It was a ridiculously stuffed little book - I’d gone way overboard.)  He took a photo of my art and put it on his Instagram!
Tumblr media
Then we went to Rachel’s table and she was really nice and liked my art and gave me her phone to put my Instagram name in.  There was no one else at Joe’s table at that point so he was wandering about behind her and it was lovely just to see them interact as friends!
Tumblr media
We managed to get Gary Jones next, who was really funny.  I told him it was my son’s first Comic Con and he shook Gregory’s hand.  But then he said, ‘No, that’s no good,’ and got up, came around the table and proceeded to give Gregs a lesson in firm handshakes.  It was hilarious!
I’d wanted to draw all the guests but just didn’t have time, with all the chemo and being in hospital shenanigans, so had to use the photos provided, which were nice, if not the same.
Tumblr media
Next, after some hanging around and listening to the Q and As (which were all really good and Michael Shanks just kept spinning on his stool and being really silly) we got Paul McGillion and Rainbow Sun Francks.  They were both really lovely and nice to Gregory and, again, there were no queues so we had plenty of time!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then we hit a bit of a hurdle because the day (and my energy) was running out and it didn’t look like Ben Browder or Michael Shanks were coming back.  Michael had a private Meet and Greet going on but Gregs really wanted to meet him, in particular because he wanted to introduce his homemade Goa’uld.
Tumblr media
But then somehow we ended up in an impromptu session in the hotel bar - just a handful of con-goers with Ben and Paul and Rainbow! And Paul came up to me and told me how much he liked my art, because a friend had brought one of my pictures to be signed and pointed me out! And then I got to sit down opposite Ben and have a little chat and he signed my art.
Tumblr media
But we still hadn't got Michael Shanks. So I pestered various organisers until I found one who knew what to do. And she got us in on the end of his Meet and Greet and then when the meet-and-greeters had gone we had a little private session where he, predictably, attacked himself with Gregory's Goa'uld and then signed my art and then before he went (blush - hides behind hands) I got a kiss on the cheek! 🥰
So, a memorable day! And then we had the fun of trekking home from Basingstoke, through London, on costume, me in my Impala outfit and Gregs as my little Gate-mission-ready military escort. We should just dress like that all the time...
I hope you liked my little Con Diary, @massharp1971 and @colonelshepparrrrd and anyone else who's interested!
Thanks to @hermscat for getting me an extra key card for her hotel room so I could flake out when needed and for transporting us to the station!
