So I watched Cats Troika/5th US Tour (Chicago 2005 edition - link in source)

Things I liked:

It was very comfortable for me, especially with how they handled the Skimbletable

I honestly loved the Tugger!

Things I disliked:

Jenny's song was the long version. I'm frankly not the biggest fan of it because it puts an awkward pause in the song, slowing down as she changes instead of achieving the WOW effect like in this version and those adjacent to it (like the Broadway Revival which gives me huge boosts of serotonin)

no Skimbleshoo, he just sits and stares at the mangy old lady :( In general he doesn't seem to have as much of a connection to the small ones or a protective role, he just sits around a lot. But it does make me wonder if he's deliberately played younger here - he gets to dance with the boys and lift Cassandra, and he's quite petty in fighting Misto for Bustopher's attention.

Highlights:

This part is pretty smooth! I really like how it looks!

THE FINAL SCORE: 7,2/10

Design: 7/10 I quite like the concept but execution varies and in this boot it's not entirely at its best. Most characters are recognizable but some are a little harder.

Music: 8/10 Quite a vocally amazing cast! Some off-key moments happen especially in Skimble's song but it's typically expected in such a movement-intensive song. Nevertheless I still quite like his voice - not exactly my pick for Skimble but it's alright, not too high. Points off for the arrangement for Jenny's song.

Dance: 8/10 I would say they quite hold up! However, it really lacks that extra oomph I've only truly seen in the German Tent Tour so far and there were a few times when the moves could have been better, whether because of a little slip-up or the choreography. The Macavity fight used the widely popularized choreography which I am not very fond of but even with that considered, I think it wasn't all too bad!

Interactions: 4/10 NOT ENOUGH LITTLE INTERACTIONS! Granted, a lot of the area was obscured and there were a lot of zooms so maybe I missed some things, but it really did feel like most characters were just in idle mode when not in the main focus. There were some moments so it's not one big zero but it was a bit underwhelming.

Comfort watching: 9/10 as mentioned before, the Skimbletable was handled REALLY well. There was one kinda sus moment between Alonzo and Jemima but she instigated it so the impact it had on me was way lesser. No notable Skimble and Jenny interactions as far as I could see.

This is my first ever finished written work so please go easy on me! It's also a scenario I always use to cope when I get upset about the ship (in fact, a recent event pertaining to that finally pushed me to finish writing this), it brings me comfort, I mean absolutely no disrespect to the ship and I do hope it came across that way.

"Hey, Skimbs... why me...?"

The tom looked at his partner, tilting his head to the side. He knew that something was up, he always would, but for her to actually bring it up without any prodding, it must have been really serious. "What do you mean, dear?"

Lily's voice lowered to a broken whisper "Why not... her?"

Oh. So that's what this was all about.

"I mean... I mean-" tears gushed out of Lily's eyes as she started gesturing wildly, almost smacking Skimble in the face on accident several times "YOU TWO ARE THE BESTEST OF FRIENDS AND-- SHE'S SMART AND FUN AND-- AND SHE'S SO FAT AND ROUND, SHE'S A BEAUTY, I COULD NEVER LIVE UP TO HER-"

"Lily." he decisively but gently grabbed one of her flailing wrists and looked her straight in the eye as she turned towards him, with an expression that could only be read as I love you but please, calm down, I can't reassure you like this.

Once she took a deep breath and he felt her muscles loosen, Skimble shifted the grip from Lily's wrist to her paw and continued "While it's true that me and Jen get on really well, which may be due to having been oathed in the past life-"

He instantly regretted saying that once a shaky little "Oh Bast..." escaped Lily's mouth as she turned back sideways - pulling away from his grip - and looked up while fanning her face, trying to prevent herself from crying again.

"Please... listen. I've never been particularly... good at romantic relationships." Skimbleshanks shifted in his seat, gripping his knees.

Staring at his dangling feet, he let out a small, slightly uncomfortable chuckle, as if what he was about to say was too shameful to admit. "Between having been snipped and being married to my job, I worried I could never live up to expectations and..." raising his head, he smiled "I think Jen deserves to be happy with someone who can give her the most."

The tom scooted towards his wife, putting his arms around her and nuzzling against the side of her head. "Then one day you jumped right into my life and, ah-" Skimble stammered a bit, noticing that his love turned her head towards him, listening intently "you became a part of it. So ingrained into it that I can't imagine having a life without you in it."

"We do make a pretty good team, don't we?" Lily chuckled, wiping away the wetness in her eyes.

"Pretty g-- Pretty good?! I'll pretend I didn't hear that!" Skimble put his paws on his hips in pretend-indignation, causing Lily to laugh out loud "We're the best."

She leaned towards him with a sly grin, only inches away from his face "Okay, Mr. Best, may I remind you that the train is leaving in 2 minutes?"

"Oh." He bolted up and offered his arm for Lily to grab onto "Then let's get going, shall we?"

MY MUNGOJERRIE & RUMPLETEAZER HEADCANONS

You asked for it, and here it is. I didn’t want to make it I actually was dying to make it omg guys thanks for encouraging this AAAAAH...

I think you guys already know it, but I don’t hc them as siblings.

They were both bought by their rich ass owners when they were kittens but they met later on when their owners started to date and now they all live together.

For what I’ve seen in the stage shows, Mungojerrie normally seems to be a bit more serious or experienced, so I normally hc him as being more prone to leave the house at night, but finally Rumpleteazer joins him. However, in the 2019 movie I got the opposite vibes, so now I’m like I DON’T KNOW????

When it comes to their relationship with Macavity, I never know. There are a bunch of hc that I like, for example that Mungojerrie is the one that starts working for him and Rumple joins later on. But idk, I still need to work in this. Anyway, the one that is closer to Macavity is definitely Mungojerrie, but Rumpleteazer knows what’s going on and she would very gladly kick Macavity’s ass.

And Rumple is the one who finally gets Mungo out of Macavity’s gang.

Although they wouldn’t mind working for him from time to time...

They look like dumbasses, they sound like dumbasses, but these two are smart AF and could ruin your life if they wanted to. They’re just chilling.

On the same note, the line “Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer have a wonderful way of working together” is true. Their plans may seem chaotic and poorly prepared, but they always know how to cooperate to make them work.

Sometimes they can get a bit too competitive with their robberies to the point of having serious discussions over who stole what (naturally, they both want to win and be the best thief out of the two).

No matter what happens, no matter what’s the scenario: Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer will alway put the other one above anyone else. If they have to save someone, it’s always going to be one another.

Rumpleteazer was adopted by Skimbleshanks and when she introducen him to Mungojerrie, Skimbe was like nope.

Surprisingly, out of the two Mungojerrie is the most caring one. He always has an eye on Rumpleteazer and makes sure that she’s okay both physically and emotionally.

Literally everyone knows them. Going on a walk with them around London means to stop every 5 minutes because they need to talk with someone.

They don’t want to have kittens (for now).

Mungojerrie knows ballet.

Rumpleteazer is really proud of their reputation and will wear the pearls as a reminder for the other cats.

I don’t know what else to add, help. These hcs change all the time. I just want to say that I love them both and I’d kill for them.

So I watched Cats Warsaw pt. 2 - how a ship may have saved me from another petty breakdown.

Hey, hi, this gets pretty personal. Not everyone will probably understand, I've had people telling me I'm taking it too seriously but I don't exactly control my emotional investment in stuff.

So you know I have this ship, selfship, with Skimble.

Maybe some of you know that after I took a closer look at the B-way revival (my first and favorite production) and noticed Jenny and Skimble pretty much act married... I went through a breakdown where I almost abandoned my ship - because I felt disgusting. Like a homewrecker, like my OC was just a sidehoe.

What is once seen cannot be unseen. It took me a long time to reprogram myself to think of them as just friends until proven otherwise, and even then I felt like I was lying to myself.

And then, a few days ago, the info drops that the Skimble from the Asia Tour - my favorite one - is Jenny's "husband". Her actress's words.

This paired with the gross truth I learned about the origins of the Skimbletable made me feel desperate again. Like there is literally no good choice for me. Either a married man or a creep. I cried for hours bc I'm just dramatic like that.

Those few days ago I told some people that no amount of friends saying "he loves you!" would help because I don't doubt it. In fact if Jenny is his type then my Lily is too. But that all I could hear would be "he loves you TOO."

I don't want Lily to be a "too".

Not like this.

Not to her.

In comes Cats Warsaw, where Skimble shares all his most tender moments with... Jellylorum.

And at last I.... finally realized what TRULY bothers me about Sk*mbled*ts. I mean, I kinda KNEW it already, and I've said stuff before that should have led me to that conclusion, but now I finally see clearly and can put it into words.

It's the constancy. The inevitability of her always being there paired up with him, close to him, no matter the production.

And in that arrangement Lily would always be a "too".

But... here I got offered an alternative, and I was surprisingly really on board with Jelly and Skimbs. Because if it doesn't always have to be Jenny and Skimble, if it can be Jelly and Skimble... then it can be Lily and Skimble too.

What's funnier, I immediately latched onto it. Like, seeing it legit makes me happy and inspired instead of sad and helpless and heartbroken, PURELY BECAUSE IT'S SOMETHING ELSE. I'm even thinking about a poly (Jellilyshanks?) Warsaw AU bc I also love Jelly plenty and would not mind that at all.

Thank you, Cats Warsaw, for popping up exactly when I needed you.

The final score: 7.8/10

Designs: 2/10 kinda ugly by being lackluster and messy, the silhouettes are not very clear and a lot of cats have similar ones which diminishes recognizability. They don't look like cats but don't look entirely like humans either, at least they're somewhat trying.

Music: 10/10 this cast is FANTASTIC. I love the tiny ending change to "Macavity"

Dancing: 7/10 I definitely judged it too harshly the first time - there are some songs where it could've been better (Macavity, M&R) but overall, it's pretty awesome. While the choreography is a bit meh sometimes, the actors really do the most with it most of the time. Also, they have one of my favorite Macavity fights.

Interactions: 10/10 there were plenty to look at. No strong family headcanons popped out at me so to speak but what I appreciate is that a lot of the characters (pretty much all the main ones I've been observing) are pretty much always in-character (as in, interacting in a distinct way rather than just doing generic cat stuff), hence why I'm giving it a 10 even if in reality it's more like... 9,5.

Comfort watching: 10/10 BABEY!!! I think it's pretty much gonna be my comfort production. No ship with Skimble that makes me uncomfortable, no Alonzo (or anyone else) having uncomfortable contact with characters I see as minors/very young adults, no weird pas de deux stuff. It's perfect.

I love the current Asia Tour Skimble (honestly? The most perfect Skimble there is. This one and only time I am FULLY satisfied with a Skimble, no "almost"s, no "if only"s. He's perfect. HE HAS EYEBROWS!!!) so much I wanted to draw him but then I thought... What if Lily gave my version of Skimbs a little make-up makeover 👀
