HOT BAGEL TAKE FAM
I remember a while ago seeing a post about how if Sonic and Pippi Longstocking met that it would lead to some cool adventures. And the more I thought about how those two having adventures together the more I realized how similar in character both Pippi and Sonic are!
I figured since I don't have much to do today and I love talking about my favourite franchises why not I dive deep into why these two are similar! I'm mostly going to stick to games when it comes to Sonic. As for Pippi I will stick to the books and the Swedish movies (As those are the most closest to the books since the scrip was made by the author). I don't do stuff like this often so if there are things that could've been explained better I'm sorry. :(
1. Their dislike for Injustice
If it isn't obvious, in just about every Sonic game, Sonic fights off Dr. Eggman and many other kinds of villains because they want to conquer the world in one way or another. This means the world Sonic enjoys to run around and adventure in is in danger along with it's people and animals. Sonic is not one to stand down and will take on these evil forces no matter what.
Even though Pippi hasn't done large scale things like Saving the world like Sonic does, she still isn't one for letting anyone abuse others or animals. When a man is upset with his horse and decides to beat it with a whip constantly, Pippi steps in and tossed the man around a few times before threatening to destroy his outfit if he ever beat his horse again. Another instance being when Pippi noticed a boy named, Willy being picked on by some bullies. She tossed the lead bully into a tree which scared off the rest of the bullies. Then Pippi warned them if they ever picked on Willy they would have to go through her.
2. They Follow Their Own Rules
I would have to say Sonic and The Black Knight is one of my favorite examples as to Sonic showing that he lives by his own rules and even if others may see it being wrong, like the round table knights who follow their evil king, Sonic doesn't care. He doesn't even care if he's not considered a hero for slaying King Arthur. If he himself personally thinks something just isn't right then he's going to fix his way. That being taking out the round table knights, defeating the underworld knights, freeing the (ugly) townspeople, and eventually defeating Merlina. Speaking of Merlina. When Merlina is getting the upper hand with the fight and Gawain tells Sonic to run away because it's noy about Chivalry anymore, Sonic tells Gawain it never had anything to do with Chivalry. He just had to do what he had to do. This meaning Sonic wasn't going in this whole adventure because he HAD to but he went on this adventure because it's the right thing to do in his mind.
He even has a moment with Gawain about how "Isn't there more to a knight than serving a king?". Sonic doesn't like being held down by any master. He runs as freely as the wind that blows. Giving him the title, Knight of the Wind.
Pippi has always been see as rowdy to many adults and that she needs to be put in a orphanage. But Pippi has lived her life as a pirate that does as she pleases. While she may seem weird, wear large shoes, has patchy clothing, and keeps a horse on her porch. She would never change who she is. She likes to live her life her way and will not let others like Ms. Priscilla, who wants her in a orphanage, to ruin that. Even when she's told that she can't live alone in Villa Villa Kula by herself, she'll still do it anyways because to be in a orphanage will mean she'd lose her right to do as she wants, adventuring and having fun. And also keeping her monkey and horse. The many times the police has tried to capture her in both the books and movies, they are often twarted by Pippi's whit and super human abilities.
Fun is something Pippi enjoys the most above all. She loves to bring her friends, Tommy and Annika on various silly games like flying an air balloon and even running away from home. Often times Tommy and Annika do not believe Pippi can do such things but Pippi believes she'll always come out on top and to never give up even when others don't think it's possible. And if she couldn't do it the first time then surely she needs to practice.
Just like Sonic, Pippi cannot stand if authority gets their own way. While Pippi did not fight a underworld knights, she did take on a town of pirates. They abused a child named, Marco for dropping their drinks he needed to serve to them. Pippi stepped in and tossed two pirates out the window and hung the tavern owner on a wall to watch. Eventually at the end, Pippi gave Marco some gold coins so he can run away.
3. Doesn't like to show sadness in front of their friends
At the ending of SA2 after Shadow sacrificed his life to protect the planet Maria loved, Sonic and Friends are now in the ARK full of emotions. After Sonic has given Shadow's ring to Rouge, he goes to another spot in the room to think about Shadow. That is until Amy goes to check on him and see if he's alright. Sonic then shrugs it off yo show he's happy yo go back home to the planet that is as cool and blue as he is. Sonic is then the last to leave the room and with that he gives one last goodbye to Shadow.
While Pippi was out playing with Tommy, Annika, and their class, she found a dead baby bird. She wished if she had the power to she would bring it back to life. Pippi began to cry until Tommy and Annika pointed it out. That's when Pippi insisted that she wasn't crying and that her face wasn't red. She even tried to change the topic by bringing up another tall tale of her's. Pippi then tried to play it cool that she wouldn't cry for a "little scrap of a bird". Once she heard that the rest of the class was looking for her to continue the game, she quickly placed the bird on soft bed of moss before continuing her game.
--
I just wanted to bring up that in Pippi on the Run, she jumped out of a speeding car to grab the sleeping bag that fell out, ran back to the car, and hopped right in. I'm not saying she's as fast as Sonic but I would love to see those two have a run or something. I'm just saying!
Anyway, now there are probably more similarities but these are the ones I could think up the most easily. And obviously Sonic and Pippi aren't one to one similar as Pippi is definitely more child-like than Sonic is. Anywho I hope both Sonic and Pippi lovers enjoyed this as much as I did. And if you have more to add that would be great too!

Clothes.
Imagine opening your wardrobe, for that spring cleaning you ought to have done ages ago. As you sort through your hundredth cute outfit into the ‘keep’, ‘donate’ and ‘throw’ pile, you notice a box of clothes that you haven’t seen in awhile.
The old high school tshirt you had borrowed the first time you slept over at his place. The dress shirt you picked out for a formal event. The jumper you casually claimed ownership of. The flannel that you gladly accepted when he was clearing his wardrobe. These are his clothes. No, these WERE his clothes. You sigh. These clothes were no longer just clothes, they’re memory agents; each item carrying a very vivid memory you shared with him. They used to be special, but not anymore. In fact, they have been packed away such a long time ago that you had absolutely forgotten about their existence.
Hold on, why do you still have them if you had broken up ages ago? Ah right, Kim, your best friend, had forced me to do a wardrobe clean up after you hung around your room moving around for an unhealthy extended amount of time. You could not bear to part with all his belongings, so you ended up making a deal with Kim; to throw everything, except his clothes. You smile at that memory. It was a sight to remember, ‘no no I need this, please!’ You begged Kim while snot carelessly dripped onto the tip of your lip. Kim carelessly threw every thing that he had left at your place into a black trash bag. She would never understand, she did not have access to the memory bubbles these item/ held.
You picked up the old tshirt from the box. It smelled staled, as it should be.
‘Would you... perhaps... like to stay over tonight?’ Taehyung avoided your eyes as he shyly traced squiggly lines on your palm.
It was the first week since you guys have started dating. You became acquainted with Taehyung after you guys bonded over your love for melted ice cream when you offered to share your table with him in your university’s cafeteria. It was the first time Taehyung had invited you over to his place since you became official.
‘I’d love to. But... I have nothing to wear...’ you timidly replied.
‘Oh oh don’t worry! You can wear my high school tshirt! It’s super worn in and super comfy! I promise you’d like it!!!’ Taehyung was rambling as he jumped out of the sofa and into his bedroom.
‘Here!’ He showed you his washed out tshirt with a triumphant glee.
You guys took turns to wash up in the bathroom. You fumbled around with Taehyung’s tshirt. The fabric was made out of white cotton and the fact that it has been so worn it makes it very translucent. You were not used to wearing a bra to sleep, but you did not wanted to appear to brazen. But what’s the point of putting on a bra if it’s going to come off anyway? You made your decision and headed out of the bathroom.
Tae was fidgeting at the edge of his bed when your eyes met. Placing his hand on the bed for support, Tae struggled to place his eyes.
‘Is this... too much?’ You asked.
‘NO. No. Not at all.’ Tae responded as he shot out of bed.
‘You look beautifuller than I ever will in this tshirt.’ He muttered as he closed the gap between you.
That was the first night you had spent with your new boyfriend, Tae. Subsequently, it became a no brained for you to pick up the washed out high school tshirt whenever you stay over at his place. It always had an effect on Tae, it turns him into a very horny, very helpless puppy.
It was your faculty’s mid year formal and you’ve decided to attend as a couple. The only problem was that Tae was more of a ‘street fashion kinda guy’ as he described himself. His only white dress shirt has turned yellow and no way were you going to allow him to wear that garbage out.
You loved Tae, except when it came to shopping. Your boyfriend was the fussiest shopper ever. Too narrow, too pale, too baggy. In your eyes, it seemed like Tae was nitpicking every outfit he had tried on. By the 15th outfit, you lost it.
‘Kim Taehyung. Are you even taking this seriously?! Just tell me if you’d rather wear your yellow wash cloth. I’ve had enough!’ You half yelled as Tae came out of the dressing room in a pale lilac shirt, coupled with a deep purple suit.
‘Babe, I just want to look good for you.’ Tae pouted. Your boyfriend had that effect on you. For some reason, he looked like a five-year-old child who have just broken his favourite toy whenever he was down. How could you stay mad at him?
‘Sweetie, you look good in everything. In fact, I don’t even think I’d mind that much if you went in that washcloth of yours as long as you’re with me!’ You comforted the doe-eyed man.
‘Aw babe. I know you’d love me a little less if I had turned up in that washcloth. I actually really like this set, shall we?’ The boxy grin was back, as you marvel at your blessing for having Tae as your boyfriend.
In the end, you decided to pay for the lilac dress shirt to commemorate what you decided was your first formal event together. Your cheeky boyfriend on the other hand, announced to the world that it was a cover up to commemorate the first time you got mad at him.
In time to come, you’d realise Tae was setting you off more than you expected. You loved him, but you could not understand how could a grown man be so silly and happy-go-lucky all the time.
This leads you to the jumper. It was your first winter together and it was about 6 months into your relationship. You had just stormed off from your boyfriend’s place for a reason you can no longer recall.
Just as Tae thought you might be gone for good, he heard a little knock on the door, to the rhythm you have both came up with.
‘Babe?’ Tae muttered as he rushed to the door.
‘There’s a snow storm, I can’t leave. But I’m still mad at you!’ You push Tae aside as you invite yourself into the warm room.
Some how, Tae managed to appease you and you guys had the best make up sex that night. You had Tae’s jumper on as he licked your pussy just the way you liked it.
‘Do the Super Sonic babe’ you moaned as you grabbed a bunch of your boyfriend’s hair.
‘At your command mam.’ Tae muttered as he worked his way skilfully around your clit.
‘Super Sonic’ was a silly name Tae had invented for the technique that he knew would drive you crazy. As the name suggests, he had a mad way of moving his tongue at a high speed you could not imagine yourself. Perhaps it was the fact that he was highly skilled with the saxophone that trained his mouth muscle; but this boy can go on forever. The finale to ‘Super Sonic’ is a mind blowing orgasm that ends with you squirting all over.
‘I love you, so much , babe.’ Tae confessed for the first time as your wetness coated his face.
‘I love you too Tae.’ You said as you wiped the mixture of bodily fluid off your boyfriend‘s face.
You sigh as you picked up the last item in the box. The flannel shirt. It was the shirt that contained the most memories. It was Tae’s favourite shirt, so, it was naturally yours too.
Taehyung had worn the flannel on the day you first met and chatted over an hour. You had a tutorial to attend but you did not have the heart to interrupt the handsome stranger who was going on and on passionately about his love for melted vanilla ice cream.
The truth was, you were so busy chatting with Kim that you had forgotten to eat your ice cream. You never had a particular liking for melted ice cream but you went with it anyway, just because.
Tae wore the same flannel on your first date. The boy had planned to bring you to the carnival. Except, in typical taehyung fashion, he had forgotten to check for the weather forecast. You were actually glad that it rained, for you have acrophobia. You literally have to pop medically prescribed sleeping pills whenever you had to fly. But you went with it anyway, just because.
Tae turned up in the same flannel shirt the first time he met your family. You brought him around your childhood home for a tour when he came across a photo of you and a familiar stranger as children.
‘Babe you’ve never told me you have a brother?’ Tae asked.
‘Oh.. erm, he lives faraway and doesn’t come back often anymore.’ You answered as you hurriedly pushed Tae onwards. The truth is, your big brother had killed himself several years ago. It had taken away a part of your family, but you decided it was not time to tell your boyfriend the truth, just because.
Coincidentally, Tae was also wearing the same flannel shirt the day you guys decided to split for good. It was true that you could not stand how childish and flighty Tae could be. But Tae was the one who insisted on the break up.
‘It’s like I can never truly get to you. Do you even trust me?’ Was one of the last things you could remember Tae saying to you.
It was true, to an extent. It’s not that you could not trust Tae, but rather, you simply could not trust yourself. After the death of your dear brother, you have feared opening up to new people. You were terrified that they too, would leave.
You wish you had fought for Tae to stay. But you could not. The only thing you did was muster the courage to ask for that flannel shirt. The flannel that started it all and ended it all.
You decided to place all of taehyung’s clothes into the ‘throw’ pile, for it was just too painful to imagine somebody else wearing his clothes; unaware of the stories that came with it.
It has been over a year since Taehyung and you had broken up. You did not keep in contact since and decided perhaps it was time to casually check out his profile. Tae was looking very handsome and cheeky as usual. He was wearing a new flannel shirt with the Gucci shoulder bag that you have bought for him for your first and only one year anniversary. You smile to yourself and wondered if Tae still think of you whenever he used the bag, or perhaps, it is simply a bag to him now, a meaningless, overpriced bag. You will never know.
Just then, a notification came in and blocked your view of your ex boyfriend.
‘Heyyyy, just wanted to confirmed if we’re still on for drinks tonight?’ - Jin.
Yes, you have moved on. Memories of taehyung no longer leave you in tears and despair. You were regretful that you never found the courage to open up to taehyung but you figured, these things are not meant to be forced. Perhaps you had never found that courage because Tae was never the one to be. At one point, both Tae and you were probably convinced that you were meant to be. Unfortunately, time has proven otherwise. You are open to going on dates now. You are not sure if you will ever find the strength to break down all your walls, however, in the meantime, no harm trying you suppose.
Ps. It took forever to find Tae in a flannel, it’s almost like flannel is his fashion crux or something. Rip.

“Urg! He’s got a face fall of teeth!” – The Woman Who Fell To Earth
From now until New Year’s, I’m going to be reviewing S11 of Doctor Who in time for S12. Why? Because there’s various things about S11 I don’t think anyone discusses, so I’m going to do it. And naturally, we start with ep1, The Doctor In An Exciting Adventure With Tim Shaw. Chris Chibnall went into S11 with entirely new writers and directors, a new composer, the first female Doctor, and a pledge of no returning monsters in S11 (i.e. a fudge for New Year’s). It was all going to be new. Did that work? It certainly results in his first episode looking and feeling like no other Doctor Who episode I’ve seen before it. No other episode in S11 looks and feels like this either. When we open with Ryan and his grandparents, it feels like we’re watching a BBC drama. It starts with a deliberately unflashy vlog; we move into natural lighting, wide shots of the grassy outdoors, and domestic drama as Ryan loses his calm and refuses to accept Graham. Where Rose deliberately harkened to contemporary soap operas, The Woman Who Fell To Earth starts off feeling like The A Word. When the science fiction shows up, it starts as abstract yellow slashes in the very air. The lighting, camerawork, and music all presents this as something weird rather than exciting. Something is distorting the genre. And then, the train attack. A BBC drama has been invaded by a sci-fi horror. We’re in a world of darkness now; Sheffield is a city of shadows and grungy alleyways and empty streets. Our first alien is a pulsing mess of wires that flashes from within, something completely alien and faceless. When we get a humanoid villain, he’s a sinister Predator-like figure. He leaves bodies so disfigured they can’t be shown on screen and he wears severed teeth on his face. This is odd enough on rewatch. When I first saw it, I was transfixed. Was this what Doctor Who was going to be like? The answer is “no”, we don’t get this dark and horrific and completely weird after, and that’s a bit disappointing. Still, as an opening I can’t fault its confidence. This is not Moffat’s Who, or RTD’s, or the Classic Era, or even Chibnall’s previous stories. But does the story work, and does it set up the characters for later?
There are some weak points. Why did Tim Shaw’s bundle-o-wires leave the cast alive if it was planting bombs to kill them later anyway? Never explained. Ryan’s dyspraxia comes in during his climb up the crane to help Carl, treated in the story like this is the point where he tries instead of giving up, but we’ll be returning to him and the bike later anyway. And Tim Shaw comes from five thousand galaxies away, a detail that doesn’t fit in with the more grounded, grungy setting of this story.
However, for the most part, this works. It’s a simple plot to start us off: a rich dude is hunting the Most Dangerous Game, and he’s cheating. This is the key thing, the bit that the Doctor and the show flag up as the worst part, not that he’s a killer but that he’s petty. He’s a sadistic thug who taunts and dismisses people, who kills when he doesn’t need to, and then gets pissy when the Doctor notices that he’s cheating at his test. He wants to be seen as the Big Man but he’s just a cheap bully. “Tim Shaw’s a big, blue cheat!”
He’s still a threat, due to that petty brutality. He fits the dark-streets sci-fi horror of this episode – he’s an unsettling, nasty, brutal thug and he’ll kill you. (Making him a major planet-shattering ubervillain, now, that’d be silly, right….? Oh no.)
A simple plot means a greater focus on selling the new status quo, the character dynamic, and it does: the characters work by cooperating, and the Doctor is a low-key, often practical figure. Throughout the story, there are constant scenes of discussion and questioning to figure out what’s going on, and everyone – not just the Doctor figuring it out for us – gets to play a role. Crucially, the Doctor recruits them to find out facts for her, and each character has a different social group and a different method to find them out. We learn something about them when Graham and Grace turn to colleagues, and that Graham does it in person, and when Ryan checks Sheffield social media, and when Yaz tries (and fails) to use her job. Ryan’s continuing issues with Graham marrying his nan are less key than the fact Graham is mostly not pressing the issue, but Grace does; when Ryan snarks “second husband”, both grandparents look at him, but Graham looks away. Graham spends the whole thing trying so hard to get Ryan to accept him as “granddad” and putting up with a lot of guff, and we learn a lot that he’s putting up with it when it’s clearly emotionally draining.
And we learn something when despite all that, Ryan is left depressed when he thinks Graham’s blaming him for what’s going on.
And Yaz’s first bit of police stuff! On first watch, it feels like she rarely does this again – however, on rewatching them closer together, you will start to pick out numerous moments where Yaz reacts and deals with situations exactly as you’d want a policewoman to do. This is where it starts, and is the most explicit: a scene of her keeping the peace with calm authority and common-sense decisions, and asserting herself over older women.
Then there’s the new Doctor. Very, very quickly, we learn who the Doctor is – as with RTD’s debut of the Ninth, we learn about her from how she enters the fray and interacts with people. This Doctor is someone who doesn’t actually know anything on but is working it out, and working out her response, on the go. This Doctor turns to everyone around in the crashed train and brings them into a discussion, tries to form them into a group and trusts them to assist her. This Doctor doesn’t kill Tim Shaw but gives him the means to go home, so he can be saved from the DNA bombs he’s triggered. (Okay, she tricked him into absorbing them, but she’s never intending to kill him, just force him to piss off.)
The most defining thing is that this Doctor builds her new sonic screwdriver. When the Doctor was without sonic or TARDIS in The Eleventh Hour, the sonic was returned as a reward by the story at the very end. The Thirteenth doesn’t need it given to her. We see her make something, and – just as she works out what’s going on – we see her do it with what’s around her. Her new sonic looks like a thing that has been hammered out in a shed too, it’s no sleek sci-fi gizmo born from within a time machine but a piece of DIY engineering.
And that’s one of two big things in this episode that will last throughout the series: the Doctor is grounded, not a figure of great sci-fi power but someone who has to plot and make things. The second is the story is grounded as well. The world isn’t at risk, just a few people in one city. Which city? Sheffield, not somewhere with the TV glamour and loving building porn shots of London. The Thirteenth Doctor gets her new outfit from a charity shop, key intelligence comes from a bus driver, the villain’s grand scheme is to abduct one man, and the Doctor attends a funeral. The stakes are low by the standards of the show, but it’s not treated as such. “They’re not important,” Tim Shaw says about the little people, and is condemned for.
We’re not dealing with the Lost Lonely God here, we’re dealing with a smart, practical woman “sorting out fair play throughout the universe” who works with people like bus drivers and blokes doing MVQs, and who will stick around for your funeral (and a very normal funeral presented in a normal way, a coda that lasts several minutes, not a quick beat). It’s a strong, confident start, setting out a way of doing Doctor Who and saying: this is what we can do. Come along. Unfortunately, following it up with a Coming Soon montage of actors is a terrible way to build interest. It’s a bunch of people staring at the camera in different clothes. Where’s the excitement? How will kids know to care? We’ll end positively and remember the greatest man of Sheffield, the drunk kebab man who threw food at Tim Shaw. “Eat my salad, Halloween!” Legend.

“it kinda makes me sad when artists giving out tutorials on character...”
oh could you talk more about this? :o
ABSOLUTELY thank u for enabling me to go off about designs i love this shit this may get a bit long so its going under a readmore (sorry if ur on mobile i hope it works)
gonna start this off with im no expert Nor have i taken any sort of official art class this is me just analyzing characters from what i found that makes them memorable to ppl (most of these examples are going to be from games sorry i got them on my mind)
ok so basically making a memorable revolves around personality and appearance now theres different ways to go about showing these things and i think from consuming media you like will help narrow down how you wanna go about it, basically thinking about your character inside and out!
SO shapes and hyperstylization is a good way to get a fun appearance across in a cartoon esp media and is often what a lot of artists stress on an example of using shapes and a good silhouette to make a memorable character is sonic!(specifically comic sonic)
(had to google idw sonic for a non...u know image)
but not only do they use lots of triangles for this hedgehog they also made him blue! you’d be more likely to remember a blue headgehog over a realistically colored one!(also almost all of the sonic characters have a combination of fun shape + unusual color to help you remember them! the designs werent afraid to use color to make a bold statement)(he’s also segas mascot so of course they put a lot of work in his design)
now sonics appearance is not the only reason why people like him or remember him so much he’s also got personality! he’s cocky, fast, always getting into trouble, “you’re too slow!”, accompanied by shitty butt rock and a cool guy persona ie he’s got personality! and they weren’t afraid to give him some weird interests(see the butt rock) and he’s not perfect( see arrogance) if youve ever played a sonic game you have almost always remembered the crush 40 theme that went with it
all in all to go with his unusual appearance he’s got some unusual traits! it helps make him believable! admittedly he’s not the most embarrassing of the sonic crew (see knuckles or shadow) but he’s definitely rounded and not boring from an objective standpoint(you can not like sonic or his games i dont care)
(another example of something that requires good shapes is pokemon altho they arent really like very depthy since there are 600+ and some only have like a pokedex entry worth of info but still they have good and memorable designs)
NOW something that doesnt have the most “good shapes” design off the top of my head is link
now in the most recent zelda game his most memoriable physical attribute is that he’s on the androgynous side w his longer hair and smaller build but in his older designs he looked something like this
(art for a loz:link to the past)
not really that much of a striking silhouette, but what do we look at and kinda leaves an impression on us? his hair and hat! its very silly to see someone in such a big green hat with that big of bangs/mullet, the hat at least became so ridiculous of a look that in botw nintendo didnt include his hat in links main outfit bc it was too hard to make look good, its silly! thats good! its fine to have a normal human looking characters because sometimes stories are about humans, but if you want us to remember them include something that will strike us as strange for them
also probably a good thing to note is the noises link makes when he swings his sword, jumps, pushes something, ie any action they have always been something that has stuck with me
(another example similar to this is in mgs solid snake in mgs is this cool super spy but is rocking a full on mullet which is considered a joke hairstyle. this leaves an impression on us. a spy with a mullet! how ridiculous! another example is raiden who was specifically made bc a woman wrote that she didnt want to play as an “old man” so the protagonist of the super spy game is a longer haired pretty boy (with a huge ass))
now ive explained a little on a character with good shapes and personality and a character with a more “boring” shape design that makes up for it with almost quirky design choices but i feel like theres another series thats what originally got me thinking about how even a memorable silhouette doesnt need hyperstylization
ace attorney! (which is out on switch now if u havent played it i would def recommend it)
if you dont know the protagonist is the guy in the blue suit(phoenix), which well he looks like just a guy...with ridiculously spikey hair enough so that in his silhouette you can recognize him but also his posture (the pointing) makes for a sticking recognizable image bc if you’ve played the games you can practically hear objection just from looking at phoenix’s silhouette
which is another thing id like to talk about! not only are a good shape a way to have a good silhouette but posture is also important! how the character holds themselves can say alot about them just from a glance! such as meekness, arrogance, confidence, sadness, anger, happiness its a very important too especially when you arent relying on stylization
now onto the characters of ace attorney ive gone over phoenix's design a bit but theres a few others id like to look at with some Weird style choices that make us remember them(just going to glance over them since this post is so long)
now, this woman, franziska von karma, she dresses kind of strange for a prosecutor but her outfit is not too out there and her silhouette is not striking
but you see that whip? remember how i said she was a prosecutor? yeah she will strike people in court for getting off topic and will even hit phoenix when he starts breaking down her witnesses testimonies, which what literally strikes up about her
another prosecutor, godot, now his hair could provide a somewhat memorable shape but what we first notice is the strange mask on his face which is weird, but not the Same weird as franziska bringing a whip to court thus having both of these prosecutors being Weirdly memorable for different things (another note is his liking of coffee that he does not give up even in court ha ha)
now onto the other protag for the aa games
apollo! who also has weirdly spikey hair, but even if you put a silhouette of him next to phoenix you could tell there some was a difference between the two! its showing a pattern with the protags while also keeping them distinct enough to be able to tell who is who! although you cant say the pointy haired guy from ace attorney and not get just One answer unlike saying the prosecutor who has a whip but still they are distinct to people who have little experience with the series
sorry i dont have any sort of conclusion on this this was just sort of me rambling on about character design, but my main point is if you are discouraged bc all your characters dont have wildly different silhouettes thats ok! there are other ways to establish a good memorable character! dont be afraid to make them a little weird! give your character pink hair in a medieval setting, have them be ridiculously in love with tigers they have a striped shirt and pants, let them love childrens tv shows and have them never miss an episode, give them wacky hair or an extreme love of gum, show us some personality!! but dont forget about how they act and their values and dont forget that posture can go a long way for establishing a first impression
there are also many other methods to making a good character! like colors and dress!
silly is the way to go! have fun with it!!
there isnt just one way to make a good character!! theres plenty of more series that have good character design that i didnt mention pay attention to why you like the characters you like! also watch this video bc its really good
#atissi#im sorry this is so long and incoherent#im sure this is hard to parse so im realyl sorry if i end up confusing ppl

Mikunology File #5: Hatsune Miku
So here I am again, finally. Time for some more info dumping, but this time for a single character instead of an aspect of the verse or story.
Since Miku’s birthday recently passed, and I haven’t really done much to expand on some characters, I thought I’d make a Mikunology file based solely on a character and decided to start with our wonderful blue-green-haired protagonist.
This is a VERY LONG ONE, so if you’re interested enough to read to the end let me just say that I am virtually sending you a hug. Info under the cut.
So, as mentioned, Hatsune Miku (codename CV01) is the humble protagonist of the story of Vocal Android, as well as the instigator of the entire plot from her coming into existence. First in the line of Crypton Laboratories’ Character Vocal Series and supposedly the first fully functional completely humanlike android in existence (spoiler alert: she isn’t, but that’s a story for another day), within the world she lives in she’s a pretty hecking big deal. Naturally, this ends up causing her equal parts harm and good, giving her friends, fame, and recognition all over the planet but also bringing her into the sight of some messed-up, incredibly corrupt people who are quite interested in either her destruction or her exploitation.
Personality/Portrayal
I’ve discussed how I see Miku’s personality before, but I feel now if the perfect time to go further into depth on it.
Here, Hatsune Miku is a cheerful, friendly and perpetually nice girl with a heart for music and a strong sense of justice. Miku is as sweet as she appears, and is often concerned with the wellbeing of everyone, whether it be friends, family, or fans. Miku loves nothing more than to make people happy with her singing, and considers it an act that fulfills her purpose best as a Vocaloid. She can get along with virtually anyone, and can spare a spot of sympathy for just about everyone (at least, most of the time). That said, Miku is also known for being a bit on the silly side--as nice as she is, she can be very clueless and slow on the uptake compared to everyone else. She always tries her best to understand, though.
Even with her friendliness however, Miku is sometimes rather stressed by the world around her. Having to juggle a career as a pop idol, a big sister to her fellow Vocaloids, a life as a high school student, and a responsibility as a superheroine, she tends to be overwhelmed by circumstances when things get rough (enough that you could call her neurotic sometimes). This stress can occasionally make her afraid to make mistakes, and thus cause her to run away or avoid problems to support her own mentality. She also can have a rather explosive temper because of her constantly bottling her feelings up. But, she still has a large drive to do well and be efficient to serve her purpose (making others happy) and will stop at nothing to achieve what needs to be done when she puts her mind to it. She just needs a little incentive, that's all.
And lastly, Miku is known for her loyalty to her friends and her world. Even with her own anxieties, she makes her best effort to put others before herself and dreads the idea of anyone coming to harm because of her. She loves to give encouragement to her fans and fellow Vocaloids, and strives to use her own abilities to keep the world at peace. In all reality, all Miku desires is to bring an even brighter future.
Abilities
Gotta talk about this, right? Now truthfully, this list may change in the future, because this plotline is constantly developing and new ideas are always coming to me. But as of current, this are her current list of basic abilities.
Her singing voice. Obviously, Miku’s greatest ability is the power of her own voice. Being created to sing, Miku was granted the ability to do more with her voice beyond what an average human can do. This includes amplifying or quieting it, manipulating her tone of voice, throwing her voice, or pitching it up or down. After acquiring her Append, V3, V4, English, and eventually Chinese voicebanks, she can also switch between voices or languages at any time. Her ability to sing loudly has been perfect for concerts, but can also constitute as a weapon. Later on, she can power herself up with the strength of her music.
Flight. Miku is also able to fly, and can do so at decently fast speeds. I like to think that she probably started out with your standard “rocket boots”, if you will, but upon her upgrades from V3 and V4 she switched to anti-gravity. Despite being rather clumsy with it at the start, Miku is pretty swift and acrobatic when it comes to flying--it probably helps that her twintails can provide wind resistance.
Durability. Miku is incredibly durable, much more so than your normal person. Since she is a robot, and isn’t made out of bones or flesh, she is more than capable of taking a hit and usually requires quite a lot to so much as truly render her out of commission. She is NOT bulletproof or completely invulnerable, however, but as long as she’s capable of moving around it’s quite hard to do her in. Also, if she DOES get considerably injured, it’s perfectly possible to fix her up again. (Note: Just to say, though, while Vocal Android can get cartoony at times, these characters do NOT follow “easily detachable robot parts”.)
Learning capability and musical knowledge. Her brain is computerized, so it doesn’t take long at all for Miku to learn something; this especially applies to her knowledge in music and dance. If someone shows her how to do something, it usually takes very minimal tries for her to get it down. This often comes in handy for learning songs, playing instruments, or dance routines, and has also helped her in copying abilities. However, while she is a fast learner, whether she actually UNDERSTANDS the material she’s learning is a different story.
Download. Miku is also capable of downloading her consciousness or data within her into a computer. While downloaded, she can also take form as a program or virtual entity on the computer and can act within cyberspace as she pleases. Additionally, as a precaution, she actually regularly backs her memories and personality into a separate computer in case her physical self were to come to harm.
Module usage. Thanks to a strange incident, Miku is also one of the few capable of using Modules, special “power-ups” of sorts that can change her appearance and give her special powers. Module powers vary greatly and can often be wild cards, and each one has a specific time limit based on how powerful they are, but they always help her in a cinch.
Equipment
Of course, Miku also has various equipment to help her on her various escapades. Once again, this list is open to change.
Her arm sleeves. Miku’s most common equipment. Not only are they a vital part of her trademark outfit, but Miku’s sleeves are embedded with computers that organize her data and allow her to access songs, information, video-call, and switch voices. Her system menu can also be accessed via her sleeves and she can be shut down or switched on with them.
Headphones. Then there’s Miku’s headphones. While of course they can function as regular headphones and often do, they also function as a another “off/on” button, and also can allow Miku to call or receive calls from her teammates or from the facility.
Leek and Leek Gun. Unsurprisingly, Miku always has a leek on her, either for snacking or for a good comical smacking (although she can do some real smacking, too). Also, courtesy of Gumi, she was given the Leek Gun, a dual-fire mini-launcher that looks like a leek. She doesn’t always use it but to say she’s fond of it is an understatement.
Megaphone. Insert “Love is War” reference here. Miku also commonly uses megaphones, as a way to amplify herself further and sometimes as way to direct her voice more properly. Before anyone asks, however, she has used a gun similar to Megaphone Gun from Ultra Despair Girls once.
Microphone. And of course, a singer like Miku always needs a microphone. Aesthetically, she prefers the ones that come with stands, never mind that they tend to make good staves.
Bonus Headcanons
Random extra stuff since I don’t know what else to put here!
Miku likes to cook, but tends not to be very good at it due to her innate ability to be easily distracted.
While she can play a multitude of instruments, she has a particular affinity for the guitar, synthesizer, and bass.
She loves video games, particularly the Sonic the Hedgehog series.
She doesn’t have a favorite song necessarily, but Miku Miku ni Shite Ageru has a place in her heart for being one of her earliest hits.
She likes sports, but is an utter klutz when she tries to play them. She's good at cheerleading, though!
Contrary to what some may think, she actually is pretty comfortable with her robotic existence. To say she doesn’t ever wonder what it would be like to be human would be a lie, but she doesn’t at all mind what she is. As long as she’s treated with respect, she’s cool.
She’s secretly the biggest freaking nerd ever
Inspiration Songs
Songs I used as a basis for my portrayal of Miku are: “39 Music!”, “Anger”, “Innocence”, “Miku”, “Mikunologie”, “SING&SMILE”, “Unfragment”, “Yellow”, “Miku Miku ni Shite Ageru”, “News 39″, “Koisuru Vocaloid”, “My Time”, and “The Bounce from Zero to Infinity”. For those curious, of course.

The Eleventh Hour - Doctor Who blog
(SPOILER WARNING: The following is an in-depth critical analysis. If you haven’t seen this episode yet, you may want to before reading this review)
After two years, I’m finally writing more of these Doctor Who blogs. I must say it feels strange to be diving into these again. I stopped watching the show about halfway through Series 8 because I became so fed up of the constant Moffatisms (that’s a new word I’m coining) that were dragging the quality down. So it’s actually been a while since I’ve seen any of New Who post RTD, having been avoiding the Moffat era like the plague. While I personally think Steven Moffat is a pretentious, sexist egomaniac who couldn’t write a decent script if his life depended on it, I confess I do have fond memories of some of his earlier stuff. One episode I have a particular fondness for is this one. The Eleventh Hour.
The newly regenerated Doctor crash lands in the back garden of someone’s house where a little girl called Amelia Pond has a crack in her bedroom wall. But this is no ordinary crack. It’s a crack in the fabric of space and time itself. A crack that a shapeshifting alien called Prisoner Zero uses to escape from his imprisonment. 12 years later, the Doctor and a now grown up Amy must work together to capture Prisoner Zero before the space police known as the Atraxi incinerate the Earth.
For those of you who don’t know, I usually hate post regeneration episodes. When you see a new Doctor, you want to see what they’re going to be like. Get an idea as to what their personality quirks and morals are going to be. But most of the time post regeneration episodes seem perfectly content with wasting our time, having the Doctor either be unconscious or acting weird for no good reason. The Eleventh Hour thankfully gets to the point. With the exception of that ghastly fish fingers and custard scene at the beginning, there’s no faffing about. They just get on with it. From the get go we know exactly what this new Doctor is going to be like, keeping most of the usual post regeneration bollocks to a minimum. I do so wish all regenerations could be handled like this as though the act of regeneration were as simple and casual as putting on another outfit.
I’ve also gone on record to say that I don’t particularly like Matt Smith’s Doctor, but even I have to admit he’s really good here. I think it’s because, in these early episodes, both Smith and Moffat actually manage to strike the right balance between goofy and serious before the character turned more clown-like further down the line. I think it’s fair to say Matt Smith is what makes this episode so enjoyable to watch. He has good comic timing and a lot of charisma. I love the way he interacts and comforts the young Amy and I also really like how he inspires that guy Geoff to lead all those scientists from his laptop to save the world. He’s light hearted and joyful, but also doesn’t sugarcoat things. When he’s about to open the crack in the wall, he doesn’t beat around the bush. He just flat out tells Amy that this is going to be very dangerous. And I love how he uses his ingenuity and quick wittedness to save the day at the end when his TARDIS and sonic screwdriver fail him.
It’s Matt Smith’s performance that really elevates this episode because his new Doctor is just fascinating and entertaining to watch. And it’s just as well that Matt Smith is exceptionally good here because, without him, The Eleventh Hour is actually pretty weak over all.
So we’ve got this giant snake thing. Don’t know who he is, where he comes from, what crime he’s committed to be locked up in the first place or what kind of threat he poses. Why should we be scared of him again? Let’s be brutally honest here. As Doctor Who villains go, Prisoner Zero is really shit. The whole multi-form thing may seem like a good idea on paper, but in practice it’s just silly. A woman with two children is not intimidating. A man walking his dog is not threatening, and the CGI teeth just makes it unintentionally hilarious. In fact why did Prisoner Zero take the form of a man walking a dog when he first encounters the Doctor and Amy in the house? What’s he going to do? Woof them to death? And another thing. Prisoner Zero often gets confused as to which voice comes out of what mouth. Well... why don’t you just copy one form then? Why take on multiple forms? I know he’s getting all of these disguises from dreams, but why does he feel the need to copy the man and the dog? Just pick one and go with it. No wonder you got caught.
I do like the Atraxi however. I’ll take giant eyeballs in giant snowflakes over rubber latex monsters any day of the week. I just wish we could have learnt a bit more about them.
Finally let’s talk about Amy. Never been a fan, and there are problems right out of the gate. For starters the whole premise is basically exactly the same as The Girl In The Fireplace. A woman’s complicated relationship with a time traveller. Windows/cracks in time etc. Second, Amy doesn’t really have any impact or influence over the story. Most of the previous companions had to in some way prove themselves to the Doctor before travelling with him. Amy is basically just along for the ride really. Apart from introducing the Doctor to her crack (in the wall. Get your minds out of the gutter please), she doesn’t actually do anything if you think about it. And third, she doesn’t really have a character. Don’t get me wrong. Karen Gillan does a decent job. She seems confident and independent, but apart from that, what do we actually know about her? She’s obsessed with the Doctor and she’s sexy. The latter the show is very keen for you to know as the first shot of grown up Amy is a slow pan up her long legs.
Moffat fans: ‘Oh, but the whole kissogram thing is to show she never really grew up because she’s dressing up and playing make believe.’
YYYYYYeah. Sure it is.
One quick side note, when she knocked the Doctor out with a cricket bat and handcuffed her to the radiator, what was her plan exactly? What was she hoping to achieve? How long was she planning to keep the pretence up? Was it to wrong foot the audience? Moffat couldn’t possibly have thought we’d buy into the idea that she’s a real policewoman, could he? No policewoman would be caught dead in a skirt that short.
While incredibly flawed, The Eleventh Hour fares better than most post regeneration episodes by cutting most of the extraneous bullshit to let their new Doctor shine. Let’s see where things go from here, shall we?

Suppose Cream the Rabbit was in Sonic Boom
Let us now imagine the character, Cream the Rabbit, in Sonic Boom. What would that be like?
Join me as we take a look on what it would be like if Cream was a part of the spinoff.
[Design]
Big Red Button designed the four main characters in a unique way. They made them stand out based on what their characteristics are.
Sonic's Speed = Messy Quills
Tails' Mechanics = Goggles & Pockets
Knuckles' Strength = Bigger Muscles
Amy's Heroic Actions = Outdoor Outfit
It is important to look at the details when designing a character based on what the theme is or the style.
Based on my own research on Cream, I see that she is:
Sweet
Helpful
Brave
Heroic
Polite
Fast
Strong
Friendly
It is good to take these kinds of notes, even on the smallest of detail.
She enjoys flowers very much, brings a umbrella with her (but not so much anymore after Advance 3), can get emotional when appropriate, and loves her chao friend, Cheese.
Sadly, there are no chao in Boom.
Picture this.
Cream would have four main colors for her outfit. Light blue, yellow, orange and red.
Most of the stuff she has done in the franchise involves the outdoors like picking flowers, so her outfit would be very girly and cute while appropriate for skipping in the meadows.
She would be wearing a skirt, a tank top like shirt, her standard shoes, and single flower headpiece.
[CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT]
This is the part where we ask who is she and what she does. How can she stand out to the point where audience can easily identify her next to her design?
Comedy Chimp's a funny monkey, Beth the Shrew is a curious and always impressed kid, Lady Walrus is a clumsy but caring strict mother, and Sticks the Badger is a paranoid tough girl who always wants to do what's right.
Those are just examples of what makes some of these characters give off their unique charm. Now what about Cream?
If she was in Sonic Boom, some things might be a little different. I know she would still enjoy picking flowers and being polite as well as friendly.
Perhaps she is a talented drawer!
I cannot take inspiration from Amy or Sticks, she is her own character.
Cream's Character in Sonic Boom
Loves Flowers and Picking Them
Artistic (Draws Incredibly Well)
Polite
Curious
Fast
Loves the Wind when Flying
Brave
The one thing I have been pondering over is if she will be with her mother, Vanilla. It's nice to see her independent, but I think of stories being put into both situations; so I decided that Vanilla can be a part of the spinoff too!
That way Tails realizes that Cream has a mother and that might make Tails want to remember his mother and where she has been. Sonic Boom did a fantastic job of making Tails a mechanical genius while at the same time, and this is the most important part, that he is still a kid; and he acts like a kid. Same with Cream, she's still a kid but at the same time independent in her own way when she's out.
One thing that makes Cream Cream is her kindness. She's kind to everyone good or bad. However, she has to defend herself and become the hero by stopping the bad guys, but kindness comes first. It can never be forced, kindness comes natural, and when the person WANTS to perform acts of kindness.
It's tough, but I know it can be shown naturally when writing for stories.
[STORY DEBUT]
I could not find the story on how the team in Sonic Boom all came together and met beforehand, and sharing my take on the story is for another time.
In Sonic Advance 2, she was captured by Dr. Robotnik, and after Sonic and friends saved her, she wanted to help save her mother and had the courage to do so. Made a few new friends along the way during her adventure.
Here is my take on how Cream made her appearance in the spinoff.
Sonic and his pals were playing volleyball when Knuckles hit the ball so hard it went very far over the trees.
No Nose Goes and Tails was the last one to touch his noes with his index finger, so he had to get the ball while the group set up a movie to watch when Tails gets back. The movie would be entitled: "Rocket Cat!"
Starring Tommy Thunder.
Meanwhile, Tails was out searching for the ball, and thanks to his ability to fly, he was able to find it in the meadows. wile he was flying, he accidentally crashed into Cream the Rabbit, and they fell on the meadow of flowers below.
Not paying attention, Tails didn't know what hit him, and neither did Cream. Tails then found the ball and saw Cream looking up.
She wanted to know what she accidentally crashed into. A meteor? A bird? Tails looked upwards too to check it out. Nothing. So Tails started to fly back; but an impressed rabbit stopped Tails and told him that it's amazing how he's able to fly like that. Afterwards, she remembers accidentally running into Tails when looking for a special kind of flower for her head.
At first, Tails thought she was being silly and didn't believe that she too can also fly, but he was amazed when she flapped her ears and she flew up, around, and back down on the ground.
Sonic calls Tails checking in on him and asked him where he's at. He responded by saying that he'll be there shortly. Tails wants to go back, but at the same time wanted to help Cream find the light blue flower.
Once they found it, Cream tucks it just below the right ear threw the fur where it stays in tact; and to show her gratitude for helping her find the flower, she sprints around the meadow, gathers flowers, and quickly makes a flower headband for Tails.
Thanking her for the gift, Tails invites Cream to watch a movie with his friends
While Tails was gone for that long, Robotnik has been sending his robots to attack Sonic and his friends, and when Tails came back to aid his pals, he told Cream to hide and to stay safe.
Cream became amazed at how the heroes defeat the robots and stop Robotnik once again for the attempt to defeat Sonic.
At first a little shy, Tails takes her by the hand and introduces Cream with Tails' friends.
Amy really likes Cream, and wanted to teach her how to be a hero someday. If she likes, and Cream has shown a likeness so that she can be with her new friends; Tails even promised a new communicator for her in case they need extra help.
After the film, it was getting late; Cream realized that it's way past her bedtime and that her mother would be disappointed and very worried.
So what did Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy do?
They escort Cream back to her house all together as a group of friends.
Tails started feeling a bit down when Cream mentioned her mother, and when he saw Vanilla, he got very teary and almost cried; so he puts on his goggles to avoid a scene. He missed his mother. Almost wished Vanilla was his mom when he shook her hand after everyone else did.
The next morning, things seemed different for Tails.
He remembered his mom and he met a brand new friend. But he knows that she has a communicator, and like Friend-Bot, she is a part of a team and they can call her whenever they need extra help, someone to play with, or to simply keep in touch.
As for Cream, it is great to know that she doesn't have to feel alone in the island.
[Relationships]
Sonic: Impressed with his abilities, but often times gets irritated with his ego.
Tails: A close friend and playmate. Tails feels comfortable being more of a kid around her.
Knuckles: Knowing that he's a gentle giant, she likes to make him pretty, and he's alright with it. Almost like a big brother.
Amy: Like a sister she always wanted, Cream learns how to be more brave and strong thanks to Amy. Amy herself adores Cream's manners and has a great time hanging out with her.
Sticks: Cream is polite too her, but Sticks dislikes Cream very much. Thinking that she's a spy and then later on jealousy towards her thinking that she's been replaced. Took a long time to see Cream as an ally, not a rival.
Dr. Robotnik: As much as she doesn't approve of his evil ways, Cream has taken an interest in his robots and even on occasions befriends a lot of the robots. As for Dr. Robotnik, she still remains kind and only fights when she needs to in order to save herself and her friends.
Lyric: Lyric sees Cream's interest in robots and uses that to his advantage by tricking her into believing that his robots do what they do to save the world. Cream however later learns about Lyric and sees him as a stranger and is reminded that Lyric is an evil ancient being wanting to wipe out organic life, including flowers.
[ONE ICONIC MOMENT]
[McNamer's Sonic Boom]
Amy soon discovers Cream's drawing talent and invited her to an art show where Cream eventually lost over Diane Aardvark.
Cream congratulated Diane and became a great sport, but when she got home, she became very disappointed and sad that she didn't won.
Amy stopped by to cheer her up by talking about it and telling her that she's the best artist Amy has ever met.
Poor Cream secretly thought that she needs to compare to others with her many talents, and Amy knows that. But in the end, Cream learns that there is no one like Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and Cream herself.
It is a story of acceptance.
In the end, Cream draws Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Sticks, Amy, and herself all together in a group looking towards the audience in a friendly way.
Cream saved this special drawing for her room; and her new friends love the drawing that she made.
