Listening to Unwell again. I know it's been finished for about a year, and I have been listening to it for like 3-4 years. Something about the podcast feels like home to me. One day I'd like to make something like Unwell. Something spooky and mysterious, but still feels like home.

Also Old Gods of Appalachia is just as good. Unwell and Old Gods of Appalachia are my absolute favorite podcasts. They're the kids of things that speak to my soul.

Release Day Review for Re: Dracula

Yes I know I haven't been here but the point is Re: Dracula is here not just on Tumblr but in real life, as a podcast now and I wanted to talk about it in multiple places. Your girl wants to write podcast reviews and wants people to read them and this one is a good audio drama.

If you don't have three minutes the TLDR is that it's an epistolatory podcast that takes place in "real time" (dropping seemingly randomly) - and it's all around really good for those of you who want some spooky in your summertime.

I love small team/production fiction podcasts so much. Not only are the stories unique, but they're made primarily out of passion from the creators. I can't wait to be able to donate to patrons someday when I make enough money to.

public radio does it again... and again...

I did grow up listening to public radio. My parents listened. I didn't love it until I got better at caring about the rest of the world. So. I'm ashamed to say I lived in that silly little bubble well into my 20s. Then Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans. Then the 2008 economic crisis. And I was hooked.

At that time my work week was Tuesday through Saturday (but it would flip from that to Sunday through Thursday and then back again). And I was in a car a lot. And pop music really wasn't doing it for me. Around this time, the iPod was the thing and podcasts became a thing. Now I didn't buy this newfangled device because I was still paying off my student loans. As soon as podcasts became a thing it was a natural progression that radio shows become podcasts. Podcasts didn't really take off until a podcast called Serial, which spun off of This American Life. But it's This American Life that keeps delivering after all these years.

It started as a radio show on the weekends. I didn't start paying more attention to it until Santaland Diaries aired for the first time written and read by the incomparable David Sedaris. I didn't start downloading it for road trips until I got a smartphone. But my podcast listening didn't really take off until I started working alone in 2020, when I quit my job at a restaurant to go full time into our business.

I've expanded my podcasting diet to programs not produced by PRX or NPR, but I always go back. Because the program is so good. So. Good.

Finally I leave you with this after the meandering journey I've just written, a rebroadcast I heard recently about being off the map. What do you do when you have no map and no guide?

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I fucking love podcasts. They tickle my ND brain in just the right way. They give enough niche info to keep me interested and hit the dopamine button, while not being too long either. Audiobooks usually don't keep my squirrelly attention span, and I can usually only listen to music if it's a few specific songs in a certain order. Podcasts though, they fucking rule.

Count things you were genuinely interested in, even if you didn't finish/haven't finished it yet. Best estimate is fine.

PODCASTS. I LOVE PODCASTS

Okay so, Death by Dying, right? O.W. is my little meow meow little sopping wet cardboard box but that's besides the point. If you've listened to DbD, you've probably also listened to The Magnus Archives. Now, bear with me because new AU just dropped

What if O.W. was an avatar of the End?

He's drawn to death, literally friends/begrudging companions with the embodiment of it (possible Jonah Magnus/Peter Lucas-like avatar figure head?). Imagine him, without thinking, showing up at a random house: "hey I heard there was a death, I'm here to write the obituary" and the person at the door is like: "???? No one died here?????" Meanwhile, upstairs, Grandma died in her sleep or something. He would put the slapper out of a job SO fast if he could just sniff death or see those tendril things like Oliver Banks.

And plus also, if he was an avatar of the end, part of his feeding process would definitely be writing the obituaries. Like, those generate a kind of fear in the townspeople, not to mention the fact people are already scared of him because he's "got that look on his face," he sounds like a perfect candidate for the End!!!

He and the Archivist would get along great (be incredibly paranoid about the other person's existence for the rest of time)!!!! I also think it would be fun if O.W. wasn't completely human. it would be FUN
