In a strange twist of events that 99% of pc users will never encounter it's looking more and more like I'm actually going to have to DOWNGRADE my cpu.
No matter what I do I CANNOT get the temps down. I've cleaned the vents, cleaned the fan, repasted with the best stuff I could find, changed the power settings, disabled turbo boost, looked into tpFanControl but backing out since it has the potential to brick my BIOS (hasn't been tested to work with my model. Maybe when this isn't my only decent pc), trying lenovo's heat management utilities (vantage was extremely unhelpful and the older versions won't install on win10, they're straight up blocked by the OS despite being signed), and it STILL idles at 80°c at night while only having the hardware monitor open (and maybe doing a maintenance scan in the background). Yes, it's sitting on an additional fan. Yes, I've debloated Win10 and am looking into Linux once I can afford or even find a big enough msata drive for it.
The only things I've yet to try is tinkering with the BIOS (for some reason the f key shortcut when booting doesn't work :/), brute forcing my way through the power manager install (there's a way to do it that I haven't tried yet) and hunting down the xtreme edition cpu manager that actually works (may be a dead end since the thinkpad forums mentioned that you can't unlock the cpu for tweaking). If none of that works my only options are reducing the wattage of the CPU and/or plumbing the thang into extended intake/exhaust pipes, which I can't use if I have to take it anywhere (rare, but if I have an assignment where I have to create a video it's far better at it than my other options).
Worst part is that it WASN'T always this hot, it used to max out at about 70°c, but I can't remember when I got those numbers during winter or not. Most people with this model usually ask about upgrading their CPU, but mine came with the upgraded option, so a lot of the stuff I've found online hasn't been particularly helpful. I guess on the plus side I'll actually get more than an hour on my battery alongside the better temps if I do downgrade (battery is practically flawless with less that 3% capacity loss. Doesn't matter too much since its rarely on battery anyways, I usually just treat it as a desktop with a huge UPS. It would be nice though to get through a whole movie without having to go grab the power brick in the last 25 minutes).
Was really hoping to max out the RAM and put some additional drives in it first, but I really have to deal with these temps before I cook something. Anyways, any fellow toasty thinkpad owners want to weigh in?

my brother was convinced that his old gaming laptop is beyond trying to save, when all it needed was a good clear out of both the dust clogging the fans and all the unnecessary apps taking up the space, and what do you know! free gaming laptop!

I love funky design as long as its practical-ish.
Tumblr media
I don’t specifically like the transparent plastic stuff, but I don’t also specifically like rugged thinkpad like stuff.
I really love how japanese laptops look. its such a special look. I like saying that panasonic lets notes look like if apple made a thinkpad.
Tumblr media
I guess I’m passionately obsessed with things that seem novel or innovative. especially if the use case is not super obvious until you use it. thats one of the most satisfying parts of discovering things imho.
I miss computers with personality. it’s probably why I rice my system so heavily. gives it an identity it otherwise would lack
Tumblr media
base openbsd is pretty barren and sorta ugly in a practical way. I could probably rice out fvwm or cwm if i wanted to. but I really love the workflow I built with stumpwm/emacs, so its become hard to go back.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
my powerbook has windowmaker on it currently and imho, thats the best floating window manager that has desktop-environment like integration.
its like the OS X and motif wm ux was fused together
it also has a beautiful 90s unix feel by default that I’m a slut for.
Tumblr media
rambling aside, figured some of y’all would appreciate it.

New Simblr Introduction ♡
Although I've had this account for about a month now, I guess I can still be considered a "new simblr" because I'm relatively small, and when I did this the first time Tumblr didn't show me in tags so I didn't get any reach... So here we go again!
Basic Information:
Name: Lauren Age: Young adult (18) Aspiration: Computer Whiz Traits: Family Oriented, Overachiever, Loyal, Music Lover, Childish Job: Tech Guru Simself: Pictured above
I've been playing Sims since 2016 and was inspired by simtubers and simblrs like @farfallasims, @pixelglam, @marilynjeansims @largetaytertots and @oshinsimblr to create my own Simblr and share my work.
I am a heavy modder and CC user, and use maxis-mix CC. I would consider my gameplay style cozy and I usually play happy family dynamics. However, I'm very open minded and love to see other gameplay styles!
I (used to) play sims on a 2020 Macbook and have taken years to work out how to make it run decently with minimal lag and good graphics. Now I play on a shitty Lenovo Z13 ThinkPad which gives me the ability to use shaders! NOW I play on an Asus Zenbook 14 which is amazing!! (Let’s ignore that I went through 3 computers since I’ve had this account)
On my account, you'll see CAS screenshots, lookbooks, sim dumps, CC recommendations, photoshop tutorials, gameplay photos and more! I am very WCIF friendly so if you ever want to ask a question I'm more than happy to answer it. Also, sim requests are always open! :) Just send an ask (for WCIF and requests)
There will never be any NSFW content on my page, and as a general thing please don't expect a follow back if your page is full of sexually explicit content.
I would really really love to find new active mutuals and friends!! I am always always looking for new mutuals so if you’re an active simblr I'll follow back (I'm a good mutual, I'll like and comment [and rb] anything you post). And if you ever wanna chat, just DM me because I'd love to talk :)
Please, feel free to like, comment, follow and reblog this post (help a gal out)

snippet sunday!
Another Sunday, another snippet plucked from my ever-expanding vault of WIPs. Thanks for the tag, as always, @mellancholy-morose 🥰 this week I'll share a little somethin' from Summer Nights, Chapter 3:
"Just one condom,” Soul quickly clarifies. “But I’ll buy you another pack as payment–”
“You owe me big time, bro.” Blake points his spatula accusingly at Soul. “They were ribbed for her pleasure, ‘cause I take my shit seriously.”
Soul does not want to think about how Blake takes his shit - not literally or metaphorically or hypothetically or sexually. Especially not sexually. He doesn't even want to be discussing this matter with Blake to begin with, least of all over breakfast.
I am, sadly, without a working computer right now. My old laptop, a refurbished Lenovo ThinkPad that I've had since my college days, finally called it quits this past week. I knew it was on its last leg so I knew this was coming, but with the state of my finances right now, I'm unsure when I'll be able to purchase a new computer. Needless to say, updates on both Summer Nights and King of My Heart will be delayed until further notice 😞 I'd wanted to try to get updates posted on both fics this month, but sadly that's just not in the cards right now. I'll do my best writing on my phone and by hand in the meantime, but I'm not promising anything.
Will tag @toweroftunes @silluuuu and @midnightcaptions this week 😎 would love to see y'alls words if you got 'em!

stuff from steam next fest that caught my eye:
kletka: 1-4 player survival horror. seems like a tight iteration of lethal company. i think calling it gigastructure (instead of mega) is a bit much though... are you trying to compensate for something...?
fish fear me: fishing roguelike. actually played this one for an hour-ish, and the demo is likely to stay up imo. it has tank controls, the boat is kinda like a kart. it's an unhinged choice that works super well.
automaton heart: sequel to the 3ds' last game, automaton lung, which i'm sad to admit i haven't played much of. it's an rpg and the visuals appeal to the blame! enjoyer brain, plus i really am fascinated with automaton lung's whole deal. — update: yeah it has all of lung's signature cryptic jank. i really need to dig more into it. this demo's likely to remain up as well, so i'll have time to really poke at it.
mohrta: save me slow paced exploration heavy fps... i love retro rpgs. 20 bosses sounds really scary, and it overall seems to be going for a very large scope, when what i love about lunacid and dread delusion is their tightness, but this looks awesome.
update: for an exploration heavy fps it sure does start you with a long and linear combat encounter... the game's pretty hard, i got walled by the first boss because it's very fast — in fact, once you get into the first level it's pretty clear that while exploration is somewhat slow, combat is anything but. however! it's made on gzdoom! that's pretty cool on its own, but it also means console commands are all there ^_^, and there's a lot of options including full tilt / bob customization (why there's tilting in the first place is beyond me. the nausea...). it might be stretching the engine a bit, since my performance is kinda subpar at times. the art direction is awesome, but there's the characteristic feeling that the game was made by some cishet guys. haven't finished the demo yet, but overall a game to keep an eye on for sure!
hyperbeat: rhythm game! it looks really cool and fun, and there's workshop support — yippee for the possibility of bad apple!!. runs decently on the thinkpad but didn't feel super great on mouse, i wanna check it out on the "gaming" laptop and probably with controller (it really seems designed for the analog stick) — update: performance greatly improved by being on a better laptop, but it was still pretty hard with controller. the learning curve of this control scheme is pretty tough to me...
rhapsody of moon rabbit: top down shooter, it doesn't look all that remarkable but i'll always check out hybrid hells. — update: this performed quite poorly and wasn't very good... i didn't enjoy the controls and the two character gimmick is odd, because i don't see much reason to ever use the meelee character, she's more of a fallback for when you die. not good 👎

Decided to draw all my main electronics as robots, since they already have names and it gives me an excuse to talk about the little family I have.
- Blu is my B131DL Phone I bought at a grocery store. They can't actually call or text anyone, and is more so used for music and reading fanfiction. They often don't work properly, if at all. Likes to close all my pages and apps I'm currently using, flashes my keypad on the screen when I need to type, etc. Although they always get me up for work, so they can still be reliable. Paint all over them. I love this little mischievous dumbass.
- Edwin is a Lenovo Thinkpad I got from Walmart, who's very confused about most things. It takes him a while to complete tasks, but damn he tries his hardest. He's a little beat up because of his age, but he creates art just as good as the day I got him. I mostly leave him on my desk since he tends to overheat when hanging out with me in bed, although he's got lots of company. He's been with me the longest out of all of them. He's had so many kinds of stickers on him, and currently has star stickers.
- Phoenix is a Gaomon PD1560 Drawing Screen from Ebay, and is the newest edition to the family. She's far bigger than both Blu and Edwin, and she's very proud of that. They keep Edwin company since they're a little too big to take out on a daily basis. He's a little color crazy and often disagrees with Edwin on what colors to use on a collaborative art piece. Very confident and proud of herself. Also covered in star stickers.
I have a few other members that I have, but it's currently 2 AM, so that will have to wait for another post.

Finally figured out how to make my own brushes in krita >:)
Like sure a few years back I made a pixel eraser (I didn't know you could just press e to turn a brush into an eraser, which I can't do with my keyboard detached from my tablet anyways) but now I'm taking it to the next level >:) (ms paint esque pixel brushes)
Now hopefully I can figure out how to replicate the kidpix 4 brushes since I'm pretty sure a windows update is causing it to crash when attempting to save. And using screenshots to "save" isn't really helpful if it extends to opening previous files too (haven't checked)

Hello! Welcome to my blog!
Hello! I'm Europa, and welcome to my blog (playfully named as such as a reference to my personal website)
I'm a 22 year old trans girl from the heart of the midwest who loves retro tech, photography, music production, writing, mapping/cartography.
Update; 2024/10/19: I now also maintain @sunos-official, so if you like old computers, old unix, or anything of that nature, be sure to check it out!
As for content creation endeavors, I'm a (very scuffed) vtuber who can't quite get her shit together when it comes to streaming, and I also release music and make videos on old tech I like. I'm also working on a novel and hope to publish it.
I also collect computers with a heavy preference toward Unix workstations, Commodores, Macs, and ThinkPads. Below are some of my proudest collection pieces, either because of sentimental value or simply because I think they're really neat machines

I also will link to some various places you can find my other stuff, should you wish to visit me there

THURSDAY THROUGH THICK AND THIN
Kitten's aunt passed away yesterday in Florida. Such a sweet lady, I'm glad I got a chance to spend time with her. Hugs and prayers to that side of the family.
I spent most of yesterday poring over computer deals online. I was sorely tempted by an older Lenovo Thinkpad with a one terabyte hard drive and a ton of ram. It was cheap enough that I could have had enough left over to afford a cheap refurbished chromebook too.
It had Windows 10 installed though and Windows says they are ending security updates for it next year. It may be possible to upgrade to Windows 11 if you mess around with the regeditor. Adding Unix is also a possibility.
In the end I went with a newer version of the Ideapad I have now. More ram, twice the hard drive, newer wifi connections. It will do.
Right after I ordered it the entire keyboard quit working on this one. It started working after a couple of minutes but it is a warning sign. The new one should be here tomorrow, just in time.
With a spiffy new upgraded computer you can expect spiffy new upgraded posts from me.
Now if you'll excuse me I need to get busy doing whatever the hell it is I'm supposed to be doing.
I love you, baby. You've got all of my favorite bits and bytes. Rawr!
Y'all have a great day.
