Toxic Love

Back at it again because damnit Earthspark Megastar is so juicy and I need to write them. So please consider this idea.

Megatron, during the time in which Starscream is in captivity, realizes that he is in love with him.

It hurts him.

He'd stumble into the cell block, lingering in front of Starscream's cell as the seeker stirs from his forced recharge.

Megatron is against the cell, tears in his optics, a palm against the barrier as while another holds the place that covers his spark. "I love you," He tries to blink away the tears. Tries to not be hurt by Starscream's fearful gaze. "Please...please it hurts. I love you."

Starscream, in any other scenario, would've used this to his advantage. He would've acted coy and submissive to have Megatron let him out before he unraveled his new plan to rule the Decepticons. But the look in the mech's optics. This mixture of longing, love, remorse, regret, and desperation was too much to handle. He wanted to scream at him. Ask him why now, as a caged little bird, he found love within his spark? What about when he betrayed them? What about when he was beating him? When he first joined and promised him a bright future for him and the Decepticons?

Megatron would stare at the trembling lips of the seeker, desperate to disregard orders and barge into the cell to press his own against them. He's convinced himself, with the aid of human films, that a kiss might solve everything.

After that, Starscream would be filled with this looming sensation of dread. Every time Megatron would return, hovering outside his cell and mouthing that he loved him over and over again, the seeker felt something inside him breaking.

Reasons why I ship these two.

There’s something bizarrely compelling to me about them being essentially soulmates. Not really in a romantic way, in an “In every universe we will find each other and we will hate each other but we will be standing side by side and we do not exist without each other” way.

I think it’s really funny.

As an angst expert, it's absolutely delicious to think about it.

Like it would've obviously been toxic but was it always? Did they ever love each other? Who pushed for a relationship and why?

For my flavor of sting, I'd like to imagine in this scenario, Megatron pushed for the relationship. Saw the seeker as a compatible and capable carrier that'd give him strong, confident, and intelligent sparklings. And for Starscream's part, he probably didn't really want the relationship. He legit was just trying to ensure stability and further the cause.

And then he's in it. Strong armed and marked as not only the SIC but explicit property of Megatron. Enduring everything for the sake of a cause so often preached. He'd grown envious. Angry. He'd see himself as the true leader because a mech who'd brutalize his own mate and obsessed over another did not deserve to be the leader.

Then comes the betrayal. Imagine how despite cycles upon years upon millennia of pleading and crying and begging he changes because....because of humans. Because of the vermin below your feet.

It would be beyond debilitating. Beyond humiliating. Beyond any reasonable reaction other red hot rage and despair.

That is what the appeal of Earthspark Megastar to me. Others are fast and loose but this specifically is just such a good flavor for angst soup.

opinion on Megastar? True honest opinion

no because Megastar is usually romanticized abuse. {It’s the abuser masked and turned sweet and the abused putting on a smile and playing along} THIS IS REFRENCING A SPECIFIC FIC I READ RECENTLY SO THAT ONE WAS A SPECIFIC JAB There is like two continuities where it’s healthy and that’s probably SG and uuuuuuhhhh earthspark..? G1 isn’t as bad as most but it’s still mostly abuse romanticized. Love my pookies but I am not a huge fan of Megastar. Of course, I always appreciate the art (most of it) and I like reading stuff but in reality it is and will always be abuse. It’s not toxic yaoi or anything like that, it’s just plain abuse. I would like to say that while this is mostly a fact, this is also what I chose to believe so if you don’t agree, don’t reblog to argue just comment

Again, summarizing that whole spiel- it’s abuse. It’s abusive. SG and Earthspark are the only possibly healthy ones. It’s abuse plain and simple.

Not gonna lie, I haven't 100% watched the show, but of course, my obsession for Starscream had me watching the youtube compilation videos or tiktoks about all the scenes he was on. And this time, centering on the MegaStar side...

HURTING FOR A VERY HURTFUL PAIN (EZFG ft. VY2 & VY1)

So - yeah, the ultimate Toxic yaoi - Megatron and Starscream. I've always been so into their dynamic and how truly dysfunctional-destructive they can be to one another. But something is clear, and thanks to the Earthspark series for bringing up that topic - there has always been a power imbalance with the two of them, being Megatron the last one to truly give the final punches to the seeker and more than that; and for Starscream (both fairly and unfairly) having his trauma and situation invalidated by others.

Like, I saw a video on youtube that analized the whole episode where Starscream gets to interact (and connect) with Hashtag, and I was dead ass when the guy on the video pointed out how Starscream kept seein the Decepticon's mark on Megatron even when it was long gone and replaced by G.H.O.S.T's insigna and that it would always appear whenever Megatron was beating him in the fights.

And you can see Starscream's fear. And you can see his fear in any other variation of his - Starscream's behaviour comes from constant abuse and his taken 'hurt others if you want to survive' ideas.

And of course, not only is Starscream the one suffering. Megatron is also suffering - my man over here trying to change after realizing he has been doing things wrong, but things are so complicated and you can see he gets hurt each time he gets called traitor and such.

VY2 represents perfectly Megatron's point of view, while VY1 could be Starscream.

"Don't come near, don't come here. Don't let it get you so excited - don't pay it any mind. Just stop shouting your head off. Go away, go away, yes - I'll be gone into thin air soon enough, so feign normalcy, and put up with it." - Starscream's taking his leave - "Nowhere is safe if it's with you."

"Oh, it hurt, the pain's so bad. Why does it hurt so bad as this? Ah, I want to tell you how much it hurts. I want you to be the only one to know. Oh, it's awful, so very awful. Why does it feel so bad as this? I want you, it's you I want. The pain is right here in my chest..." - potential "Megatron realizing he loved Starscream but both had become toxic and he has partaken the abuser's role more than nothing."

And now take the minute 1:50 to the very end of the video - a sparkbreaking where Megatron realizes about everything, but it is overwhelming. And thinking when Starscream leaves that pain in his chest is going to leave - Starscream is free, free from the abuse he has inflicted on him for so long, therefore, he will be free to... then why does it hurt so much? Why hasn't the pain left?

After all, both have been hurting for a very hurtful pain.
