dude ive been living in my own fucking world, i watched beau is afraid very soon after it came out i didnt see anyone talk about it. i think i actually watched it specifically bc a youtuber i like made a video about it and i was like im not gonna play around this time im gonna watch it first. and then i didnt interact with any like reviews (i really have hardly seen anyone talking about it even)
so i keep hearing that a lot of people fucking hated it and im like ???
like, i mean i kinda get it i think a lot of people get really freaked out when movies get too surreal, like midsommar was probably the most a lot of people could handle and beau is afraid is very silly, its especially very unserious in a lot of ways
i think that if you cant appreciate that aspect of it you are a stupid coward and ill kill you, its not a horror movie, or its very very nontraditional. its not something you have to work hard to dissect its a very surface level movie (as is hereditary, as is midsommar lmao)
but i really liked it, i keep telling people its like, its a trip, its an experience, you go and you sit for 3 hours and you just FEEL things nonstop, a lot of the feelings are discomfort, embarrassment, stress, but idk, i liked it, i like when movies stress me out
it reminded me of the kind of nightmares i have a lot, theyre really nonsensical, very social based, maybe the movie spoke to me because i suffer from extreme social anxiety and ocd and stuff
i love surrealism man, thats one thing i wish i could do more in my own art is just get weird, i dont think i have the creativity for it though

me and my friend:
1. hasn’t watched a movie since middle school
2. religiously uses letterboxd and knows too much about movies, their history, and the actors that were in them

one of the things that annoys me so bad right now is seeing letterboxd reviews about Lisa Frankenstein being like "she's such a horrible character", "those people didn't deserve to be killed" blah blah blah
SHUT UP
it's a horror romance!! a girl keeps a reanimated dead guy in her closet and falls in love with him! what did you think was going to happen? it's SUPPOSED to be fucked up and weird and that's part of its charm. quit being boring, let female characters (esp in horror) be messy and chaotic and morally gray.
