OK. I want to knw your STANCE. I've seen ppl post abt Raya being jealous when people are around Namaari & flirting. Bt i think its WAY more effective if it were the opposite. Coz Raya, god forbid, alone for all those years, has no fucking clue how drop dead gorgeous she is. How flexible, & athletic this binturi is. So NATURALLy, everyone would be falling head over heels. What if they were in Fang & she's jst surrounded by people fawning over her. Namaari's just seethes in jealousy!!
I completely agree with you, anon. I think coz Raya’s lack of social experience, she doesn’t really get it when people are flirting with her. Maybe she sees it as them being polite coz she is a princess from another land so she just takes it into stride. It does make her slightly uncomfortable to get all the attention though.
Imagine this:
Raya is in Fang, walking around with Namaari till a group of children in the garden ushers for the princesses to join them, they of course listen. The children then asks Raya if she can do any “cool tricks” as they demonstrate what they meant by that on this slightly small but impressive looking obstacle course on the park/garden for kids to play and practice on. There are adults watching, assuming parents and teachers intrigued whether Raya would agree to the children’s request.
Just as Namaari was about to turn the ‘kittens’ down politely, Raya just excitedly agrees, saying it looks fun and totally can pull off something to show them. She then gets pulled off to the course while the Fang princess stands there just as curious what Raya is going to do.
Raya stretches her limbs then with some high fives from the children, she dashes to the obstacle course. Everyone around her watches how she expertly hops on the stumps, swings herself fluidly on the bars and spinning majestically midair as she lands on perfectly poised on the floor. She swiftly climbs up on the taller bar instead of swinging on it, then leaping off to end the course with an elegant backflip causing the crowd around her that had gathered to watch to burst into an applause.
Namaari bites her bottom lip, always impressed by the other princess’ flexibility. She watches her get crowded by a bunch of excitable children and adults, complimenting her skills and bombarding her with a series of questions. She sees her humbly laugh away their comments. Suddenly, a group of men and women around their age approaches the Heart princess, some of them latching on sneaky touches on the guardian’s exposed biceps, or tussling the ends of her long wavy hair in their fingers.
She observes the flutter of eyelashes of some Fang women as they inched themselves closer to the princess, whispering in her ear causing the shorter girl to blush. A predatory growl leaves her lips, low enough to not be heard but enough to shock herself. She notices the way her heart twist uncomfortably at the sight of others feeling up the princess, her own fist balled up tightly, nails almost piercing through her palm. Her own glare useless as no one paid attention to the fuming princess standing on the sidelines.
She’s about to parade off angrily when she meets Raya’s gaze, the dark honey brown eyes pleading for help, a goofy grimace etched on her face as she laughs off whatever they people around her were saying. Warmth spread through her body, anger and jealousy washing away as she strides towards her direction and waving off everyone else as formally as she can without biting anyone’s head off.
“As impressive as the Heart princess’ display was on a children’s course” the joke eliciting a playful nudge on her side, “Show time is over, I need the princess for important things” She curses herself inwardly for her lack of reason.
Thankfully, everyone aww’d and respectfully start to disperse away. A few ladies hanging around them still, one of them directly looking at the Heart princess, “You should stop by our food stand. Food’s on the house for a beautiful lady like you”
Namaari taken aback at the outward flirting right in front of her and the audacity of the Fang merchant, she opens her mouth to say something back but she feels an arm curling around her own, Raya interlocking their hands gently. She feels her heart leap to her throat.
“Thank you for the offer! The Princess and I will stop by whenever we can” the Heart princess replies casually.
The hurt look and realization crosses the merchant’s face, eyes widening slightly. She bows respectfully spluttering her goodbye before leading away with the group of girls trailing behind her.
Raya sighs in relief, leaning closer to the Fang princess, “So many people.” She huffs out, “Thanks for the save, dep la” she says looking up at her grinning.
Namaari blinks blankly back, “Are you aware they were flirting with you?” She dares to ask.
Raya just tilts her head in confusion, “Flirting? I thought they were just being polite and offering me food” She shrugs thinking back to their interaction.
The warrior looks at her incredulously. Realization hits Raya and a playful smirk grows on her lips, “Are you jealous?”
The flustered look of the Fang princess says it all. She tries to pull away and feigning a scowl for being caught, embarrassment seeping through her skin, but the other princess just pulls back forcefully, her grip on their joined hands tightening.
“Don’t worry, dep la. My eyes are only for you” Namaari just groans in mortification as she leads them away from the garden, hands still intertwined but not bothering to look back at the teasing look on the princess’ face.
-x-
This was lowkey fun to write LOL.

Omg do you think you could write something in the canon universe where Raya and Namaari both get jealous in the same fic? Like Namaari spends a lot of her time with someone and Raya gets upset so to distract herself she hangs out with some other girl which makes Namaari pissed and it’s just a disaster
y'all really been into the jealous-vibes lately XD LMAO I love it! <3
Not my strong suite to do in-canon but I will try! <3 Hope you enjoy ^_^
Rated G mostly (T just for a tiny injury/blood and smooches UwU)
It wasn’t often that Raya made surprise visits to Fang. Even now with Namaari and herself on good terms, the lands united once more, and dragons returned to Kumandra at last; Raya often wrote Namaari before she planned to stop by. Especially if the visit was going to be more than a few days, the pair of them often tried to work out a visit that lasted several weeks to make the most of the time while they were in the land.
Holding meetings, visiting and paying respects to all those important figures in the land, showing their friendship off to the people of Fang or Heart or wherever they were at the time as a sort of ‘lead by example’ way to show the people how the fighting between the five lands were now at an end. Solidifying the bonds between the entirety of Kumandra. And in those spare times in between, they would often spend time alone with one another working on said bond that the two of them shared. Their friendship that was being stitched together again after being torn apart, the fabric that was their relationship even stronger than before. Namaari felt more like a long lost friend over someone who had betrayed her, having talked and worked through their emotions and hurt feelings in the year following the reunification of Kumandra.
Reason why Raya had made the impromptu trip, accompanied by Tuk Tuk alone, after spending time with Tong in Spine. The weather changes between the land of Spine to Fang were enough to make Raya miss her home in heart by the frigid temperatures going to a muggy hot sort. Covering up every inch of her one moment and then ripping off her cloak and jacket, wishing she could even rid herself of her boots at that.
However, despite the temperatures, Raya wanted to see Namaari. Home would always be waiting for her in Heart, Namaari wasn’t always guaranteed to be right where Raya was looking for her.
This time, Namaari was there.
However, she wasn’t alone.
Raya should have known that her random visit wouldn’t go as well as she thought in her mind. Her judgment clouded, her sights set only on wanting to see Namaari after some weeks now of being apart. Letters between them, friendly and light, even when Raya was missing her more than the words on paper described. Making her choices hasty, a little foolish even. Namaari being busy was expected as well as the visitors staying with Fang, something that happened often throughout the year to ‘re-establish’ or ‘strengthen’ ties in Chief Virana’s words.
Yet, the reasoning behind the visit had completely caught her off guard.
Marriage.
Well…not ideally marriage…but a proposal.
Along with the reunification, came a wave of marriages and proposals from both royalty and the common people of Kumandra. Raya had expected people to work on getting along with one another, she even expected a few fights to break out between the people as they moved towards the idea. What she hadn’t considered was how many people would jump at the chance to marry outside their people. Tail women were marrying Spine men. Fang men were marrying Talon men. Heart women were marrying Spine women. Blending families and cultures. Some arranged, some not. Before it was unheard of for people to marry others outside of their lands, now it was the new, popular, choice.
Chief Virana, ever wanting to move forward, had made it clear to the lands that her daughter was old enough to be eligible for marriage. A total opposite of Raya’s Ba, Benja, who had been denying or dismissing proposals for Raya’s hand left and right. Marriage was the last thing on his mind for Raya, as he was far more focused on the good he could put forth in Kumandra as well as rebuilding the damages done to Heart. Not to mention, Raya had an inkling that he still viewed her as that twelve year old girl from long ago. His mind still playing catch up on the fact she was no longer a child but an adult.
So while her Ba waved past the proposals, Virana had no reason to deny the ones that came in for her daughter. One coming from some royalty in Tail, a supposed descendant of the former leader, offering his daughter for Namaari to marry. Considering the distance between the lands, it wouldn’t ideally be a bad move either on Fang’s part. Ties in the East while they held power over the West, an ally should trouble waters hit Kumandra again. Which is why Virana had allowed the Chief and Princess to visit, getting a feel for one another to see if they could work out. Which is why Namaari was busy, as she was expected to escort the Tail Princess wherever she wished to go.
It would be rude for Namaari to step away to see Raya.
And it would be even worse for Raya to join them.
That, and she couldn’t stomach the idea of being a third wheel. That fact causing her muscles to twist uncomfortably in her gut, like her heart sunk down to her belly. Upset. Knowing Namaari was with the woman now, getting to know her on a more personal level to see if she was someone she could marry. On the edge of a thought, grappling with the meaning behind her jealousy and what it meant for her and how she felt about Namaari, when it was interrupted all together.
“Princess.” a voice called, finding Raya on the steps of Fang palace. Raya turned and saw a woman in the traditional guard clothing approach her, face familiar, a staff held in her hand that she walked with. Older, yet not by much, her face stoic like most of the guards in Fang.
Once she approached, Raya remembered her name.
“General Atitaya..?” she questioned, her voice verging on surprise, unsure why the woman was finding her. Raya had already settled in, her things taken to Fang’s many guest rooms. Virana greeted her with a warm smile, updating her on everything that was happening. She offered to cut her own plans with her advisors to keep Raya company, however Raya politely declined. Not wanting to be a bother and, her mood now soured from the news, wanted to be alone. Clearly Virana was busy enough with everything, Raya seeing her rash choice to arrive had probably stressed the woman out quite a bit. Yet she still sent one of her best warriors to find Raya, unable to let the fact be that she was here alone.
Atitaya confirmed this.
“Chief Virana sent me here to keep you company.” she explained, “she apologizes that she could not come herself nor Namaari-”
“It’s fine!” Raya sighed, trying to quickly move past the apology, “my visit wasn’t planned-..so that’s my fault for arriving unannounced.”
General Atitaya shifted at her words, her face unreadable as she stared down at Raya. Waiting, standing, like a good little palace guard that was expecting to be told what to do. The Princess of Heart wondered what was going on in that head of hers before she spoke again.
“Is there anything you’d like to do?” she offered politely, “I’ve been cleared of my duties today, so I’m here for whatever you need.”
Raya laughed, “you can sit down and relax if you want?”
“Is…that what you want?”
“Um..sure.”
Atitaya sat down, her body still rigid and firm. Posture straight and head positioned in a manner that made her look tall, aware of her surroundings, nearly causing Raya to laugh at how ‘proper’ she looked in the moment. Remembering how Namaari acted like that a lot the very first few times they hung out with just the two of them. Unable to relax unless they were sparring, Raya training with her mostly to ease her. Help them get to that point of the relationship they had now, Namaari able to let down some of those walls she had built up. Atitaya a reminder of how much Namaari had changed since then, opening up to her far more now.
It was then Raya got an idea, the woman standing up hardly a few minutes after Atitaya had sat down.
“Do you wanna spar with me?” Raya asked, watching the way the General’s eyebrows lifted up. A bit startled by the request.
“I-..I don’t think that’s wise Princess,” Atitaya said, a bit amused, “I’ve trained with Princess Namaari, however…I don’t know if it’s ideally respectful to train with you, considering your status and-”
Raya shrugged, walking away.
“That’s okay, but you definitely sound like someone who knows they’re gonna lose.” she teased, waving her off, “I’ll be at Fang’s training grounds either way!”
Atitaya blinked, her cheeks flushing, before she was up and walking quickly alongside Raya.
“I’ve beaten Namaari-” she countered, clearly unamused at the challenge Raya shot her way.
“What a coincidence!” Raya continued to tease, “so have I?”
“She’s told me of your tricks.” she stated then, “if you really intend to fight me, you should know I won’t go down easy.”
Raya smirked, seeing the walls around Atitaya already coming down. What was with sparring and Fang being the way they made friends? Or communicated!?
“Good-” Raya shot back, “it’ll be all the more rewarding when I beat you.”
~~~~~~
“Namaari.”
The Princess of Fang nearly jumped right out of her skin.
She was caught, in the serlots hold of all places, cuddled up close and hiding with her beloved felines and their young kittens. Enjoying a moment of peace away from everyone, especially her duties and obligations, holding one tiny baby serlot in her arms as it purred from the affection Namaari was giving her. Resting on their mother who was curled around Namaari, all quite content until Namaari’s Mother found her. A look of disappointment pointed at her from across the room.
“Break times over guys..” Namaari sighed, getting up then, much to the disapproval of the serlots who groaned and whined as Namaari tried to leave. A giant paw caught ahold of her leg, trying to yank her back before Virana was at her side, removing it with ease.
“No, no!” she scolded the giant beast, “Namaari is busy!”
The serlots whined again, glaring at the woman, but otherwise made no effort to go against her wishes. Namaari offered the cats a tiny wave before Virana led her out of the holding and back inside the palace walls.
“Why are you not with the Princess of Tail?” Virana huffed, folding her arms once the two of them were walking the halls alone. Giving her another disapproving look. “Dewdrop, I raised you to be far more respectful,” she added, “not to hide away with the serlots to avoid your duties!”
“I’m not-” Namaari began, silenced by her Mother’s pointed look.
An arched eyebrow that challenged her words she hadn’t even spoken.
“I’m not trying to..” she finished, correcting herself.
“Then why are you with the serlots and not attending to the Princess of Tail?” she pressed, “The Chief of Tail thinks highly of us, we should not disrespect them by avoiding them..we are at least going to hear out their proposal!”
“Mother, I don’t want their proposal.” Namaari sighed, “I don’t want to give her false hope-”
“False…hope?” Virana scoffed, “Namaari, you’ve barely met with her!”. They reached their destination, or at least Virana’s. Entering the room where she often held her private conversations with people like the Chief of Tail or to find a space she could speak one on one with Namaari without anyone interrupting. The only others around were the guards at the door, who wouldn’t allow anyone inside unless Virana herself called for them to do so. “Is it safe to assume you won’t be giving her a chance?” she laughed, rolling her eyes, “I swear-..what’s wrong with THIS one?”
“What does that mean?” Namaari asked, annoyance in her tone.
Virana gave her another pointed look, going around to her desk where she kept plenty of important notes. Holding up a pile of paper, waving it as if Namaari was supposed to know what it was. Silently for a bit, until she paged through the notes, reading them off for her daughter.
“Royalty of Spine, descendants on both sides..Father and Mother, their children and cousins..all a no.” she read, “that was nine…nine of them Namaari, and in Talon…Chieftess Dang Hu’s daughters as well as-”
“Okay, but I had legitimate reasoning for why I said no…”
Virana glanced down at the paper, eyebrows knitting together.
“Too cold..” Virana read, “that was your excuse for not liking the Spine proposals…and for the daughters…you hate the color purple.”
“It’s a pretentious color…”
“Namaari, GOLD is our colors-”
“I just don’t like it!”
“No, you are just being close-minded!” Her Mother snapped, exhausted by her daughter’s excuses, “Now, I know you may not enjoy the experience of courtships or the awkward stages of socializing with someone who will perhaps become your betrothed someday-”. “-However I must say you are being very difficult!” she finished, “I am not asking you to say yes to any of these people, but I am asking that you at least give them a chance!”
Namaari sighed, knowing her Mother was right. She was being rude to Tail’s Princess, to the Chief and their family for not being more attentive to their guests. She knew she had been quick to pass judgment on the other proposals as well and made up rather weak excuses for them to buy herself some more time. Time she needed to work up the nerve to make her own proposal of sorts. Well..not a proposal per se, more of a courtship, a manner to just express her feelings out with the hope of someday, further down the line, being able to marry them.
Her heart was already found by somebody.
That somebody being Raya.
Clueless for months, both of them honestly, until it really dawned on Namaari these past weeks. Meeting the proposals, the plenty of bachelors and bachelorettes that wanted to be with Namaari. The Princess of Fang nitpicking every little thing about them, from the most obvious being that she wouldn’t marry a man to the tiniest of details like color preferences and how someone wore their hair. Not wanting any of them, always finding an issue. Unable to see a future with them, always imagining it with someone who up until a while ago was just a figure of her imagination. Realizing that this person bore similar attributes to a single Princess of Heart. Raya being the person she wanted to be with, even if it didn’t make sense. Namaari sitting on this fluttering new feeling of interest she had in Raya, quickly seeing how there was nothing ‘new’ about it. She had felt this way for ages, it coming to a head now with all this very real talks of marriage.
“Fine, I agree…I’ll be more hospitable-” she stated, “but then after this, I’d prefer we don’t accept any others-”
“WHAT!?” Virana screeched, “Namaari, you can’t be serious-!”
“I’d appreciate it if we did.” she sighed, angrily as she wandered about the room. Idly looking at the decor on her Mother’s wall. The weaponry and art acquired from years of service to Fang. “So far we’ve only accepted proposals..” she grumbled under her breath, “can’t I be the one to do the proposing?”
She was met with silence, which allowed her a moment to just think. Her mind wandered, thinking of Raya then, heartbeat picking up as she infiltrated her brain. Forgetting herself in the moment.
“Do you think Benja would reconsider his stance on this matter if he knew I was?” Namaari scoffed, brushing at a speck of dust on the blades lightly. Seeing her reflection in the shimmer and shine from the metal. “Or would even entertain the idea if I offered-?”
There it was, the reason Namaari hadn’t jumped yet. Hadn’t told Raya about her feelings, the guilt that still weighed on her heart at times. The anguish that she had put not only her but the entirety of Heart through, the chaos that came from a decision she made as a child. The pain she had caused in the years thereafter. They were better, healed now from it, but they were also good friends. Something Namaari never thought they could be again, yet she selfishly wanted more. Wanted Raya. Knowing there was a high chance that Raya wouldn’t feel the same.
A heavy and long sigh exploded through her mind, tearing her from her thoughts of Raya and back into the room where her Mother stood on the other end of the room. Arms folded, a nasty glare pointed at her while Namaari shot her a confused one. Wondering why she suddenly had become so hostile.
“Wha-?”
“Are you kidding me, Namaari?” she snapped.
“What?” Namaari asked, still confused.
“Benja’s child…Raya!?” her Mother huffed and for a moment Namaari worried she was going against her unintended confession. Angry with Namaari that she had liked her. Only for the woman to throw up her hands then, annoyed for an entirely different reason. “You mean to tell me that I wasted several hours reading through invites and letters of eligible young men and women only for you to tell me you’d like to propose to RAYA!?” she yelled, “why didn’t you tell me before!?”
“I-..I didn’t-...look I-”
“Namaari, we could have had the wedding by now!”
Namaari’s face turned red, “N-no..we would not be married by now-”
“Of course not, “ Virana laughed, “you’re too busy dragging your feet!”
“So..are you upset..because I haven’t proposed to Raya or made it clear of my feelings or-?”
“I’m upset you wasted my time letting me try and find you someone suitable to pursue when you already had someone in mind!” she yelled, “you’ve basically had me try and find a needle in a haystack when the needle was in your hand the whole time!”
Namaari wasn’t sure if she should feel happy because her Mother accepted this or concerned she had quite possibly pushed her last bit of sanity. Either way the woman sat down, clearly exhausted as she waved her hand for Namaari to leave.
“Alright..I deserve time with the serlots now, off you go.” she sighed, “I expect you’ll find Raya at the sparring grounds or wherever you two like to fight each other at…”
Namaari paused, blinking slowly.
“Raya’s here..?”
“Yes, she arrived a few hours ago while you were trying to excuse your way away from the Princess of Tail.” she replied with a grumble, “I have Atitaya keeping her company since I assumed we were truly working something out with Tail.”.
Namaari nodded, her heart skipping a beat as she turned to leave. Eager to see Raya, until her Mother stopped her before she could get to the door.
“Let’s try and tell her how you feel sometime in the next six years, dewdrop.” Her Mother jested, “preferably today, but I suppose that’d be a bit ambitious for you.”
Namaari gave her a flat look, turning to leave.
“I’ll do my best, Mother.”
~~~
“OW!”
Atitaya winced, looking down at Raya as she blotted her forehead. The white cloth coming back red with her blood, burning her skin as she continued to clean her fresh cut to the head. The medicine on the cloth the real reason why it was burning, Raya inching further and further back while Atitaya tried to clean it. Her body’s reaction to the pain.
“Stop moving Raya-” General Atitaya ordered, her face unimpressed despite Raya’s smug look.
“Awww, that’s the first time you called me just Raya!” Raya pointed out, “I knew you were a fast lear-OW!”
“Stop moving-!” Atitaya warned, annoyed yet clearly forcing that image onto her face as she began to blush, “I knew this was a bad idea…”
They began their little training session, starting off with just their limbs as weapons and then upgrading to wooden weapons and eventually blades. Atitaya warned Raya that she didn’t think it was wise to do so. Yet Raya, ever the Princess of smart mouthed remarks, had egged her on till she did. Resulting in an accidental shot to her forehead when their fight grew more intense. One Raya had thankfully dodged, resulting in a tiny gash on her forehead that was mostly hidden by her hair. The very one Atitaya was tending to now.
Throughout the fight, Raya had been playful and teasing, trying to get Atitaya to relax like she did Namaari. Her taunts eliciting a more feral response out of the woman where yes, she was talking back and bonding with Raya, but also far more aggressive than she expected. The whole thing caught Raya off guard, as well as the General whose face went pale when she saw Raya stumble back and blood drip down from her head.
“But at least you had fun?” Raya mentioned, “right?”
“Fun nearly decapitating Heart’s Princess?”
“Well…when you put it that way-...” Raya trailed off, pouting.
Atitaya gave her an odd look, before rolling her eyes, the tiniest of smiles finding her then.
“Sure, it was a little fun.” she mentioned, causing Raya to smile as well.
She bent her head lower, surveying the injury as she held Raya’s face in her hand to keep her from moving. Close enough that Raya could feel the air that she breathed out through her mouth. Her lip falling open as she focused on Raya’s cut, making sure she had cleaned it properly.
One minute she was hovering over her, treating the cut, the next she was shuffling back from Raya. Bowing her head respectfully, face flushed all sorts of red when she stood back at attention. Much like she had when Raya first met her at the stairs. Raya didn’t realize why she was suddenly all formal and stuffy again until she looked past her and saw a figure approaching the two of them. Namaari stepping onto the training grounds.
“Namaari!” Raya called, excitedly, getting to her feet as she rushed to meet her halfway. Intending to hug her until she remembered where she had been. Her excitement rising and then falling as she realized she shouldn’t be quick to embrace her. Not if Tail’s Princess was coming along as well. Slowly her step, mimicking Namaari’s who was approaching carefully. Her eyes bouncing back and forth between Atitaya and herself.
“Princess.” Atitaya addressed, bowing her head respectfully.
“General.” Namaari said back, although with a bit more bite.
Raya arched an eyebrow up at that, noticing the tension between them.
“Thank you for keeping the Princess..company..however I’m here now, so you may report back to my Mother.” she stated, once again with a bit of a tone. Raya noticed the way her eyes dug into the woman then. Defensively, watching her carefully as Atitaya bowed and bid the both of them a quick farewell before retreating away. Her pace quick, eager to be away from the two of them, despite the fact Raya had spent hours working on a friendship with her.
Once she was out of earshot, Raya gave Namaari a stern look.
“What was that about?” she pressed, “that wasn’t very nice-..and even after she was kind enough to entertain me!”
Namaari scoffed, lightly.
“I’m sure she was plenty entertaining,” she remarked, “but that doesn’t mean it’s right for her to kiss you-”
“Whoa-..WHAT?!” Raya blurted out, taken aback by the remark, “who kissed me!?”
“General Atitaya.” Namaari stated, angrily, “just now!”
“No, she didn’t!?”
“Then why was she right in your face..?” Namaari challenged, “why as soon as I turned the corner, did she pull back-”
“She was looking at my head, Namaari!” Raya yelled, motioning to the cut on her forehead, “she accidentally cut me while we were sparring-!”
“Am I really supposed to believe that?” Namaari laughed, “Atitaya isn’t stupid enough to spar with actual weapons-”
“Oh- so now I’m stupid!?”
“Wha-..was that your idea!?”
“Yes it was my idea!”
“That’s a stupid idea!”
“I know, I was just trying to have fun!” Raya yelled, pouting then as she folded her arms. Growing frustrated with Namaari then. “And besides the point..how are you gonna catch an attitude with someone who may or may not have kissed me when you’re literally considering getting married to some random Princess of Talon!”
“Princess of Tail-”
“Whatever!” Raya groaned, “you can’t get all mad and snarky with me or your General when you’re with some girl, probably kissing her or whatever stupid thing she wants to do to you.”
“I’m not kissing her?!” Namaari argued back.
“Right, you’re probably just telling her how pretty she is or how lucky you are that she likes you or something-” Raya rambled on, feeling worse and worse as she practically could see them together. Some mysterious Tail woman and Namaari, kissing and having a great time like Raya didn’t even matter. The image putting her in a foul mood, pushing her emotions forward into her anger with the Princess of Fang. “Whatever- the point still stands that you don’t get to pursue someone else and then be mad because someone finds me okay to be around!”
“I’m not pursuing her!” Namaari stated, exhaling loudly as if she were already exhausted with Raya, “I don’t like her, Raya!”
“Oh su-”
“I like you!”
Raya paused, then yelled.
“You like..me!?”
“Yes!”
“Well isn’t that convenient!” Raya yelled, “cause I sorta just realized I like you!”
“I've known that I like you!” Namaari yelled.
“That’s great!”
“Yeah it is!”
“Then why are we yelling still!?”
“I don’t know, can I kiss you!?
“Yes!”
A pause, silence as they caught their breath.
Then Namaari stepped closer, Raya’s hands grabbing the front of her shirt as they crashed their lips together in a searing first kiss. A stupid one as well. Who even argues their way into a first kiss like this? One minute jealousy-riddled and judging each other of a situation they thought they knew, confessing their feelings and now this. Raya was definitely not expecting this at the start of her day, traveling the miles to Fang. Clearly Namaari wasn’t expecting it either, the look of surprise on her face when they parted was enough to make Raya laugh. Humored to see her startled by the kiss regardless of the fact she asked for it. Especially when she said..
“So you really like me..?”
Raya nodded, “I think I have for awhile too..”
“Can I kiss you again?”
“If you’ll apologize to Atitaya later..”
“I was already planning on that-”
“Good-.”
Back into it again they went, their hearts fluttering with joy.

HEY BESTIE
Here’s my challenge for you.
TOP (rough) NAMAARI meeting Raya in the club and they have some fun in the back 😂❤️ I KNOW YOU CAN DO IT LOL
Damn you really know how to challenge me-
Just a lil' bit
Rayamaari - RATLD
Modern AU
Rating: E
TW: s3x, sm*t
Ao3
Namaari doesn't do this whole club thing.
It's loud.
It's crowded.
It's full of drunk lunatics.
But, she came here to be with her best friend—who was also her crush. No, it wasn't a crush. Namaari loves Raya but Raya doesn't love her back. They are just friends and if that's all Raya will give her, she'll take it.
It was hard to just be friends but it is either suffer in silence or lose her best friend. Namaari can't lose Raya, so she has to just come to terms with just being her friend.
She made do, successfully hiding her true feelings. Resisting the urges to kiss her and hiding the wet dreams she had of her. Or at least, she thought she was hiding them successfully.
Sisu, friends of both of them and the owner of this club, 'The Sisudatu', had figured out Namaari's feelings for Raya a long time ago and she has been trying to make them get together ever since. Namaari refused, knowing Raya wouldn't like her back.
This was probably another one of Sisu's crazy plans to get them together. Inviting them to her club, one Namaari rarely ever went when it was open. Usually during the day when the club was closed and only to get to the second floor, where Sisu lived.
Despite the loud music and loud crowd, Namaari did have some fun. Seated at the bar with Raya, drinking whatever Sisu decided to make for them this time and talking. Raya asking occasionally how Namaari was doing, if she wanted to leave or if the noise was too loud. Which brought a fluttering feeling to her chest but she just said she was fine.
And she really was. Well, that was until someone approached Raya.
Which shouldn't be a big deal, because Raya is single and so she can pursue anyone she wants. Namaari can't tell her what to do. She can't get jealous. She has no right to.
The woman that approaches Raya was short with brown hair and tan skin, dressed in an outfit that wasn't too far away from being considered underwear. The woman looks good, curvy and beautiful but Namaari doesn't care. Raya is ten times—no one hundred times—more beautiful than this woman. Raya can do much better.
But it isn't her place to say.
Raya can make her own choices.
They are just friends.
She has no reason to get so upset.
No reason.
Namaari forces herself to look away when the woman becomes a little handsy, placing her hand on Raya’s bicep, complimenting her muscles, sliding her hand down to her waist, inching in even closer to whisper something.
She keeps drinking, hoping to get rid of the unpleasant feeling in her chest and gut. She doesn't look at them but it doesn't help, knowing what is happening. Knowing she can't do anything, because Raya isn't her's.
It's barely been more than twenty minutes when Namaari can't take it anymore, she places her glass on the counter before standing from her seat and leaving. Not wanting to leave Raya behind despite wanting to get away, she heads towards the back of the club, being allowed to go back there thanks to Sisu, mostly to give her the space if she needed to get out of the noise.
Now she just needed to get away from Raya.
Finding a safe spot to sit and calm down, she places her head in her hands. Namaari feels stupid for being jealous, hating to admit it to herself but knowing that it definitely is jealousy, mad at herself for being so childish and immature.
"Namaari?"
Namaari tenses, straightening her posture when she hears Raya's voice. She didn't think Raya would even notice that she snuck away, being too busy with that other girl.
"Namaari? Are you alright?"
She doesn't answer, hearing Raya's voice grow closer as she tries to find her.
Namaari hears Raya stop just behind her, hesitating for a moment before speaking again.
"Namaari? Did you get overwhelmed?"
"Something like that." Namaari mumbles, absentmindedly rubbing the fabric of her shirt between her fingers. "Go have fun."
"Something is wrong, what is it?”
“Nothing, everything is fine. Go back out there and have fun.” Namaari’s tone was sharp, annoyed, revealing that she truly wasn’t fine.
“It’s not fun without you,” Raya says, looking at Namaari with concern. “So either come back out with me or I’m going to stay in here with you.”
“What about that girl?” Namaari says without thinking, annoyed and disgusted just thinking about her. “Seems like you two were having fun, she’s probably waiting for you.”
Namaari turns around to look at Raya, finding her starring at her, doing so for a long moment, mouth slightly open as she takes in what Namaari is saying. Namaari stares back at her, expression annoyed and hurt.
“You- That’s- That’s one of Sisu’s bartenders, ‘maari.” Raya explains, “Sisu obviously told her to come over.”
Namaari didn’t realize that she was one of the bartenders, but that didn’t change anything. “Are you sure she just didn’t want to flirt with you? Why would Sisu even tell her to do that?”
Raya examines Namaari for a second before letting out a laugh, frustrating Namaari even more. She Stands to fully face Raya.
“Why are you laughing?”
“You’re jealous.”
“I am not.” Namaari scoffs, disgust on her face. “She’s not my type.”
Raya shakes her head, “No, you’re jealous of her. Sisu was trying to make you jealous of her so she told her to flirt with me.”
“I don’t care who flirts with you.” Namaari lies, Raya sees right through it.
“Really? Why are you so upset about her flirting with me then?” Raya challenges, giving her a look that tells Namaari she knows she’s right. “You didn’t like her flirting with me because you want it to be you, you didn’t like her touching me because you want to touch me, right?”
“What if I do?” Namaari snaps, pausing afterward, watching Raya’s reaction. Slowly realizing what was happening. “You were trying to make me jealous too, you went with it to get me to admit it, huh?”
“It worked, didn’t it? You are jealous and now you know but you still aren’t doing anything about it.” Raya points out and Namaari just now realizes how close they actually are, bodies close to touching. “You have your chance, dep la. Are you going to take it?"
Namaari lowers her gaze to Raya’s lips, glancing back up to her eyes to find Raya doing the same. She has her chance and she’s going to take it.
She presses her lips onto Raya’s, hands gripping onto her hips while Raya’s hands reach up to grab her face. Namaari pushes Raya backward as she runs her tongue across Raya’s bottom lip, waiting for the latter to open her mouth so she can push her tongue into her mouth.
Both of them moan when their tongues meet, Namaari continuing to push Raya backward until they hit a wall, pressing her body into Raya’s, sandwiching her between her and the wall.
Their kiss is rough, all tongue and teeth, eager, pouring out the feelings they have been hiding for a long time now. Her mouth tastes of alcohol, yet not as much as Namaari's does. Namaari was definitely drunk, or at least extremely tipsy, Raya definitely was the more sober of the two. A rare occurrence, it's usually the other way around.
Namaari never thought she would be this forward, never having the confidence to do so but perhaps it was the liquid courage she downed. Tipsy enough to let her walls down and ignore her insecurities, leaving room for confidence—doing what she had only dreamt of doing before, admitting her feelings and kissing Raya. Raya was slightly tipsy herself, she didn’t need the alcohol to give her the confidence but it sure helped, having to want to do this for a long time now.
Namaari was brave with her hands too, not caring they are so close to the club, dozens of people a room away. They can easily be caught if any drunk lunatic wanders off, seeing Namaari groping Raya and kissing her fiercely.
“Namaari-.” Raya moans out when Namaari pulls away from the kiss to instead press open-mouthed ones to her neck.
Raya gasps in surprise when Namaari bites on her pulse, sucking a bruise onto the skin. Effectively marking her, a message to say that she’s Namaari’s.
Still biting her neck, Namaari sneaks her hands underneath Raya’s shirt, pausing to wait and see if she’s gone too far. Raya doesn’t say anything, instead, she grabs the bottom of her shirt and pulls it up and off, leaving her just in her sports bra and ripped jean shorts.
Namaari pulls back just enough to get a look at her, she has seen Raya like this before, usually when the two are working out together, but it feels different under this circumstance, admiring her beauty more openly.
She kisses Raya again, her hands feeling her abs, something she has wanted to do for a long time now.
Raya moans when Namaari’s hands cup her breasts, exploring with touches before slipping her hands under the fabric, feeling hardened nipples against her palms.
One of Raya’s hands moves up to grab ahold of her head, the other cradling the back of her neck as she kisses her fiercely. She unashamedly moans into Namaari’s mouth, hips jerking forwards into Namaari’s.
Namaari grinds her pelvis into Raya’s in return, enjoying the sounds the Heart woman makes. Wanting to hear it again, Namaari keeps thrusting into her, enjoying the friction it provides.
Namaari pulls away from the kiss, biting Raya’s bottom lip while trailing her hands down Raya’s body. Slow but firmly touching her muscles until she finds the button on Raya’s shorts, playing with it.
“Can I?” Namaari asks, her lips pressed against Raya’s ear.
Raya nods eagerly, “yes.”
Namaari bites her bottom lip, loving how desperate and needy Raya sounded just now. Unbuttoning Raya’s shorts, she slowly pulls them down until they drop to the floor, wanting more access that the shorts were definitely limiting.
Her hands grip Raya’s thighs, touching and groping them. She keeps doing this for a long moment, enjoying the noises Raya makes and how she feels against her. She drags her nails on the inside of Raya’s thighs, smirking when Raya shakes and moans.
“Namaari, please.”
“Please what?” Namaari asks, feigning innocence.
“I want you.”
Namaari's hands slide up to hold her hips, her body rocking into Raya’s. “How do you want me?”
“You’re fingers,” Raya begs, “inside me.”
Namaari can’t hold back the moan that leaves her lips, she obeys and moves her hands down, looping her fingers around the band of Raya’s boxers, slipping them down until they fall to the floor with the shorts.
Brushing past soft curls, Namaari slides her hand down between her legs, fingers exploring her wet folds.
So fucking wet.
All because of her.
Namaari feels some sort of pride and honor having caused this, wanting to be the only one who does this to her.
Raya moans, hips jerking forward to meet the touch, one hand gripping Namaari’s hair and the other her bicep.
“‘Maari-.”
“How many?” Namaari husks into her ear, teasing her entrance with her fingertips, gathering her arousal, and bringing it to her clit, circling it once before teasing her entrance again.
“T-two, please.”
Namaari moans when she enters her, her two fingers sliding in easily, her walls pulsing around her fingers. Raya moans louder than her, hands gripping onto her for dear life, eyes shut tight.
Namaari starts with a slow rhythm, biting her bottom lip as she feels Raya’s walls squeeze around her fingers. Her cunt makes a dirty wet sound and she begins to pick up the pace, driving Namaari on.
“Y-... you’re so big, dep la.” Raya moans right into her ear, sending a wave of arousal through her body. It is strangely hot for Raya to call her big, it’s only two fingers but she moans at the statement anyway, starting to thrust her hips along with her fingers.
"Say my name."
"Namaari, ah!"
"You're so hot, Raya." Namaari admits in a low voice, working herself up just on Raya's needy voice and nails digging into her back. "I've dreamt of doing this to you for a long time, I have dreamt of my fingers inside you, then I would wake up all hot and bothered. I would finger myself just like this, imagining it was you."
"Fuck, Namaari…"
"You feel so good around my fingers, Raya. Better than I could have ever imagined."
Raya is close, Namaari can tell by the way her thrusts become sloppy and her body shaking, her walls pulsing around her fingers.
"Yes… yes! Ah! Namaari! Don't stop!"
"I won't."
Raya turns her head, trying to capture Namaari's lips, one of her hands pulling her face by her hair. Namaari kisses her roughly while Raya’s other hand lowers.
Namaari moans in surprise when Raya's hand finds her core, exploring her folds before finding her clit.
Namaari doesn't stop or falter in her pace, kissing Raya roughly as the latter starts to circle her clit.
"Fuck, Raya-." Namaari moans against her mouth, her own thrusts becoming sloppy as she feels herself close.
She has been dreaming of touching Raya and Raya touching her for a long time now, it's almost overwhelming how fast this is going but she doesn't stop, wanting more. The feeling of Raya touching her while she touches Raya is a different sensation entirely, feeling herself close already.
"Namaari, I'm- I'm close- ah!"
"Me- me too," Namaari presses her forehead against Raya's, her grip on her hip tightening and so does Raya's grip in her hair.
They barely last a few more seconds before they are thrown over the edge, almost at the exact same time. Both of them moaning out each other's names and incoherent words.
They fall to the floor, still holding each other and panting. Taking a long moment to calm down.
They end up adjusting their positions, Raya sitting against the wall with Namaari practically in her lap, lowering her head to rest in the crock of Raya's neck.
Namaari felt more sober once calmed down, wondering if she was rather drunk on jealousy and lust than alcohol.
“I have a confession.” Namaari says after a long moment.
Raya runs her fingers through Namaari's hair. "Yeah?'
The liquid courage has left her, she no longer feels confident enough to say but she needs to, especially after what they have just done.
“I’m… I'm in love with you, have been for a while now.”
Namaari pulls away to look at Raya when she doesn't say anything, concerned and worried she shouldn't have said that.
But Raya just chuckles, smiling admiringly. “Really? I never would have guessed.”
Namaari's brows furrow.
“I’m kidding.” Raya laughs, reaching up to cup Namaari’s face into her hands. “I love you too.”
“Really?”
Raya laughs again, stroking her thumbs over Namaari's cheeks. “You literally gave me the best sex I have ever had, I would be a fool not to.”
Namaari narrows her eyes at her.
“I’m kidding again, although that first part is true.” Raya says with a smile. "I have loved you for a while, just wasn't sure you felt the same way. I made a wild guess tonight and good thing I did, hmm?"
Namaari smiles with a flush. "Mm, yeah. Good thing you did."
Raya leans in to press a long chaste kiss against Namaari's lips, pulling away to look into her eyes. "I love you Namaari."
"I love you too, Raya."
Raya kisses Namaari again, softer than before but still passionate, expressing all the emotions and feelings of their words into one kiss.
Pulling away from the kiss, Namaari feels a sense of warmth and happiness, never expecting this to happen.
"Want to… come to my place?" Namaari offers, her voice shy and uncertain.
"You're so cute. All shy after just fucking me in the back of our friends club."
"I'm not cute-." Namaari scoffs, seemingly offended but not enough to avoid Raya's kisses to her cheeks.
"Sure you aren't." Raya laughs. "Let's go to your place… cutie."

Rayaari headcanon - a gift of cute canon Rayaari with a child
(inspired by this lovely anon)
They've been married for three years before Raya tentatively brings up the subject of children. It isn't as if they haven't discussed this before; Raya knows Namaari wants to expand their family at some point. She can see how much the 'kittens' of Fang flock to Namaari, and how much she loves spending time with them in return. Raya's always been the more hesitant one, not because she doesn't like or want children, but because deep down, she fears she won't be a very good parent. Now however, she feels far more confident that now is the right time, and so she broaches the conversation with Namaari.
They end up adopting a tiny girl from Talon, who is the sole survivor of an accident that claimed the lives of both her parents. Raya and Namaari both know loss, especially the loss of a parent, and they also both know how to survive in the face of hardship. They vow that their daughter's life will only improve from this moment onwards, and that they will honour her biological parents by keeping her safe and loved.
The first night they bring her home, neither can sleep, terrified that something might happen if they aren't monitoring her. Instead, they sit up and watch her for almost the entire night.
After that, however, the routine becomes far too exhausting. They take it in turns to do the midnight feedings, and for once, neither has a problem with falling asleep, or even with nightmares, so exhausted that crawling into bed and slipping into a dreamless sleep is the new normal.
Raya loves to sing to their daughter, feeling a connection by passing on the tradition of her mother's lullaby. Often when Namaari hears her voice through the house, she will pause whatever she is doing, and sneak up to watch her wife singing to the baby in her arms.
Namaari loves to tell their daughter stories. 'I don't think she's quite old enough yet to understand the complexity of different dragon magic,' Raya tells her with a laugh one day. But Namaari will narrate endless mythology or even her own creations, adding in voices for different characters and dramatically acting out the important parts of the story. Their daughter's first giggle is over an intense dying scene she is portraying on the bedroom floor.
Benja loves to visit and take his granddaughter out on walks, carrying her into nature and pointing out different brightly-coloured plants and butterflies.
Virana also loves to come and visit her granddaughter, and she will take the baby on her tours of Fang's expanded settlements, where everyone is delighted to say hello to their Chief and to the tiny baby strapped to her front.
Their daughter's first word isn't 'ma' or any derivative thereof; instead, it is a small and gurgled 'kitty!' when Namaari's serlot comes into view, tiny hands clapping in joy. Raya is quietly jealous about this, and goes around repeating 'Tuk Tuk' to her daughter for the next two weeks.
As their daughter grows, Raya still occasionally has moments of self-doubt in how good she is at being a parent. Even though her own Ba is amazing, she still went for so long without a parental figure during many of her formative years, and so she feels she doesn't have many parenting examples to pull from. When Namaari sees her fall into this sort of spiral, she makes sure to tuck Raya's head under her chin, wrapping her arms around tightly and reminding her that she's a great mother.
Namaari meanwhile is terrified that their daughter will hate her when she learns about Namaari's past. 'You mean, the part where you saved all of Kumanda?' Raya asks, with a gentle smile. 'The part where I almost doomed it all to extinction,' Namaari rebuffs. But Raya shows time and time again that she has forgiven Namaari, and the more Namaari begins to forgive herself, the less fearful she becomes.
They can both be the scary parent. No matter how much their daughter tries to work the big puppy eyes ('She gets that from you,' Namaari grumbles, despite Raya not being her biological mother), one of them will step up to play the 'bad cop' when they see other other one starting to crumble.
Namaari however has a bad habit of sneaking sweet treats to her, perhaps since she herself has a terrible sweet tooth. And Raya has a tendency to allow their daughter to stay up past her bedtime since they're having too much fun playing make-believe.
On the rare occasions when Raya manages to drag Namaari away from the family and from her duties for a date night, there is no end to the offers of babysitters.
Benja loves taking her to the kitchen, teaching her how to make all sorts of tasty treats (although the kitchen often needs a serious clean-up afterwards). Virana adores taking her to visit the serlots, where they play with the tiny kittens, or go for rides together. Sisu is only allowed to babysit with supervision from another adult, but sometimes she, Boun and Boun's older sister all spend the evening playing games with her. Tong meanwhile brings his own child and Noi for playdates.
When their daughter is five, Namaari and Raya take her on a family picnic one summer's evening. They all sit in the grass, leaning back against Tuk Tuk, and watching as the stars slowly begin to emerge. Then they take the moment to ask the tiny child tucked between them how she'd feel about having a sibling.
A few months later, they bring home a baby boy.

Some headcanon about Rayaari ( sorry My English is really bad, i hope you guys will understand )
• Raya often has nightmares, and at times like that she will snuggle into Namaari's arms.
• Without Namaari by her side when she sleeps, she will growl a lot and constantly swing her arms and legs around to find her warmth. And it's pretty sure she can only get very little sleep.
• Namaari often shows a grumpy attitude towards people but deep down she is really gentle and loves cute things, she just doesn't want people to notice it. ( And you also know the cutest thing in the world for her is Raya's smile ^^ )
• Sisu always tries to give the two of them a chance together. She even mobilized her siblings to find ways to bring them closer together.
• Both of them were very bad at flirting. They always try to flirt awkwardly, but luckily, they both understand what the other is saying
• When sleeping Namaari often nibbles on Raya's shirt (if Namaari is lying on her chest). Raya will often kiss her forehead, cuddle her, and try to carve in her brain cute images of her girlfriend.
• When jealous, Raya will usually keep quiet and It turned out everything was fine but after a while she would takes Namaari's hand somewhere deserted and kisses her roughly. As for Namaari, she will confess to the outside and show her rivalry towards those who dare to flirt Raya But when she was alone with her girlfriend, She will sit on Raya's lap and rub her face against into her shoulder or hair.
• Namaari's mother - Virana - knows just how her daughter secretly missed Raya (but when she asked, Namaari denied it) so when she saw Namaari happier and more enthusiastic, she knew right away that the two were a couple. When Namaari announced that they were lovers, Virana was happy when her daughter finally admitted it.

could u do a bit where Raya is telling Namaari how much Noi loves to make her life a nightmare and Namaari is like ...??? Raya she is a baby, and a cute one.
Turns out Noi only bothers Raya and is an angel with everybody else
Hi, thanks for the prompt! This is a bit long and slowly turned from 'Noi is been a nightmare to Raya' to 'Noi is being a nightmare and wants the girls to stop being useless and just get together already'. I have a feeling Sisu would approve.
I hate accidents except when we went from friends to this
For a long time in both of their lives it had been them with their parents, and no one else.
Raya opens up to Namaari one sleepless night, the both of them sitting on one of the Fang Princess’ large concrete windows, looking at the silent sky.
“It was hard for my Ba, having to lose the woman he loved and raise a six-year-old child all alone”
“I don’t remember much about my father, he died when I was two or three years old. Mother never really liked to talk about him”
It had been a pretty sudden shift after the last battle with the Druun, Raya inviting the girl to taggle along with her as much as she possibly could – it had been a hard task at first, but slowly Namaari stopped resisting her and enjoyed her company being requested.
All of the sudden it’s like they had a family, a weird and loud yet somehow functional family.
And if Chief Benja was surprised to see her daughter befriend the quirkiest group of people he ever saw in his life, he didn’t say anything, just welcomed his daughter’s new friends.
They all saw each other at least once every two weeks, usually it was Boun that would accompany the others with his boat in Fang or Heart, the Princesses incredibly busy in their kingdoms now that no one was made of stone anymore.
It came as a complete surprise to Raya that Namaari bonded the most with Little Noi, becoming her favourite if Tong wasn’t around, and all of her warnings felt short and were amusingly dismissed by her friend.
“You’re not listening to me, I’m telling you to be careful, Princess Jewellery”
“Please, you’re just jealous because you’re awful with kids”
“I’m not awful with kids! I was the one who recruited her!”
“Raya, you realise what you just said doesn’t make it better, right? She is a toddler”
“She is a con-baby! She tried to steal the dragon gems, I told you!”
Little Noi had been in Namaari’s arms while they were arguing, playing with the dragon earring the girl had on her ear, making babbling noises.
“Sometimes you got to make choices if you want to survive, she is just a smart baby, and she is an angel now. I mean, look at her”
Both of the girls turned to look at the toddler, who started to pinch Namaari’s cheek, letting out a ‘Maari’ which the girl responded with a – disgusting, if you ask Raya – ‘ahw’ sound.
“See, nothing to worry about”.
The thing is, Raya knew that baby was a cunning little thing, and playing a baby was only a façade Noi put on. Every time the gang would reunite in Heart, suddenly something in her room or the palace would go missing.
At first, she thought she just forgot where she had put her stuff, but one time she caught Little Noi stealing a golden plate from the kitchen, and it all clicked for her.
She started to alert her staff in the kitchen to be careful of the baby, but everyone looked at her like she was the crazy one.
She tried to tell her father who laughed at first, and once Raya started to argue with him about it, Benja told her that it didn’t matter and to let the toddler have fun if that was the case.
Raya didn’t let it go.
She played like she did, suggesting that they meet in Heart for their next hang out, and put a few objects in sight for the baby to steal.
She was going to catch her this time.
She knew Noi liked shiny objects, so she placed a few items of unused jewellery on her bedroom, applying some wood glue to the objects so that she couldn’t get away with it.
To her disappointment, Tong couldn’t come this week, busy with some family matter in Spine, and Boun could only stay for a few hours, having to return for the night to help his parents with the new chain of restaurants they were opening.
“Sorry guys, but what about…the baby? Is her mother going to pick her up?”
Boun chuckled at her words, knowing how much Little Noi had been a nightmare to deal with as of lately. He was the only one who believed her, and told her that, for some reason, the baby did it only with her.
“She knows it drives you insane, I think you should pretend it’s doesn’t affect you and she will stop”. But Raya couldn’t really let it go.
“No, I was thinking she could spend the night here” said Namaari who was making funny faces at the toddler and making her laugh.
“Oh, well. This is just great” muttered the other girl under her breath.
Raya kept both of her eyes on Noi for the whole day not saying much and suggesting that they all slept in her room so the baby would feel safe for the night. She noticed Namaari slightly blushing at her words but decided to not say anything. A lingering tension had been growing between the two of them for a while now, starting when they realised they both had trouble sleeping without a nightmare eventually waking them up. They silently shifted to sleeping in the same bed when with each other, even tough it would often end up with them talking for the entire night instead of trying to sleep.
Little Noi, on the other hand, didn’t seem to have the same problem, and after an entire day spent playing and running around, she was sound asleep, curled up on the bed between the two girls.
“Still thinking she is a nightmare?” asked Namaari, soft smile turning into a smirk when her eyes landed from Noi to Raya, who was looking at the baby with her brows furrowed.
“Have you checked her pockets by chance?” retorted the girl. She had saw Little Noi put something in them earlier that day but hadn’t seen what.
Namaari scoffed, but did it anyway, as if to prove a point. Her hands seemed to find something, brows furrowing in confusion.
“Aha! Told you s—” the words left Raya all of the sudden, smug expression replaced by a an embarrassed one.
“You…you managed to find it again? Why didn’t you tell me?” Namaari was holding the pendant in her hands, the one who started everything between them six years prior and that Raya had been keeping after the Druun battle.
“I was planning on giving it to you for your birthday, actually” she whispered, hoping her friend couldn’t see her blushing in the darkening of the night.
Namaari scooted closer to her, hand cupping her cheek. “You flushed, dep la?”
Both of them could feel the tension growing in the room, and Raya decided to break it and stop this cat and mouse game they had been playing for a while, pressing her lips firmly on Namaari’s, finally shutting her up.
They slept peacefully that night, holding each other, Namaari’s arm protectively on her waist, the baby between the two of them.
Raya was the first one to wake up, sunshine beginning to illuminate her room, the other girl’s arm still resting against her skin, and Little Noi nowhere to be seen.
She scooted closer to Namaari, head nuzzling into the crook of the girl’s neck, drifting herself to sleep once again, smiling when she felt the girl hugging her tighter.
Maybe Little Noi wasn’t such a nightmare after all.

Promt: raya sees namaari sparring/having fun with her closest friend from fang (which is a girl her age) and gets jealous and competes with said friend for namaari's attention, even though namaari and her friend have no idea what's happening.
With @killjo-qartz permission, I borrowed her OC, Somwang for a cameo in this fic! Hope I got her characterization kind of right & didn't butcher her. (I'll take it down if you don't like it) Can read in ao3 or keep reading down here 🤙🏽: Anger wasn’t new to Raya. She had lived through it within the six years of being alone. Used it as fuel to get through her encounters with bandits and mercenaries alike, to leave them begging for mercy. Used it to push through every obstacle in her way to prove each of these damned binturis wrong in this cruel, broken world. Anger was comfort as misery was company, that flowed like blood in her veins, reminding her that if she couldn’t use hope to live, then at least she had rage to build her up. If she couldn’t feel anything else, then why not let anger take control. However, as comfortable negative emotions could be, its goal was to bring anyone down.
However, as comfortable negative emotions could be, its goal was to bring anyone down. The princess of Heart stood warily outside the training grounds, her patience ran out while waiting for Namaari to finish her princess duties. They hadn’t seen each other for a while. Her own duties at Heart taking over most of her schedule, it was utterly grueling and overwhelming. When her Ba gave her the window of opportunity to take a break, she did not hesitate to flee and visit Fang, since in all honesty, she didn’t have close enough friends in Heart. Sisu was busy with her siblings, and she really didn’t know if she wanted to see the rest of the crew who were probably busy with their own families. Plus, if she was being honest to herself, she just really wanted to see the Fang princess. Her feelings had become clear, the burst of realization came upon her during a council gathering as she was lost in admiring the Fang princess instead of paying attention to the monotonous negotiations and arguments that was going on across the meeting hall. Everything becoming muted as she watched how Namaari seemingly managed to quiet down the Chiefs with her compelling and confident voice, her point somehow settling the previous argument they were having. But it wasn’t exactly that that made the Heart princess realize, no. It was the look right after they had move onto another topic of discussion, Namaari had turned to catch her gaze, her eyes speaking volumes of the actual anxiety it held after her speech. But her features instantly softened as she sent Raya the warmest smile Kumandra could offer, her body relaxing from her stiff posture as the Heart princess returned the smile as equally loving. The Fang princess somehow beamed brighter. Raya knew right there and then that she wanted to have that woman. To jump over the table and kiss that smile on her face, if it would taste like how it felt when she saw it. After that day, her emotions had been all over the place. Her heart had yearned for the other princess’ presence like a thirsty traveler to water. She needed her, she was unsure how healthy that need was. Hence why she stood outside Fang’s training grounds hoping to get some of her frustrations out of the way. However, at her arrival, she found that it only seemed to tremendously increase. She leaned by the entry way, her arms crossed as she eyed the two occupants suspiciously. Their laughs had echoed through the hall, the sound distasteful to her ears, leaving a bitter taste in her mouth. She glanced at the taller and even more defined warrior of the two, one she didn’t expect anyone else to have a well physique like the Fang princess, but she stood there towering over Namaari, looking closely as sturdy as a Spine guard, a bright grin on her face as she charged at the princess lifting her up from her torso and throwing her over shoulder. The laugh that had come out of the Fang princess Raya had only heard when they were together. Her heart painfully clenched inside her, her stomach churning unpleasantly and the corner of her lips falling downwards. “Put me down, Somwang!” Namaari complained, but there was an obvious lightness in her voice. The sturdy warrior, Somwang, listened to the order and gently placed the princess down on her feet. Her arm remained around her waist, the furrow on Raya’s brows just deepened, her grip on her bicep tightening. She remained still, quietly scrutinizing every move Somwang made as she made Namaari carelessly laugh and grin freely unlike her personality towards her other guards which usually came off as polite and civil. The Heart princess remembered something her Ba used to tell her before her bedtime at a younger age, when she had used to complain about others having their own mothers, how she would throw bitter angry words at them, words she shouldn’t even know. Or when she overheard about some Tail people purposely attacking their trade ships to steal their produce and goods that was for their people. Or Fang, their worst enemy refusing to share their medicine expertise to
their land causing a great amount of people to die. Or simply when her Ba decided to court some older lady and spent more time with her instead. She asked her Ba why she felt so angry when other people were happy, when other people had it better, or when the people she cared about felt happier even when she wasn’t there. He would say, “Dewdrop. Anger, resentment, and jealousy doesn’t change the heart of others – it only changes yours. It is never wise to seek or wish for another’s misfortune because everyone deserves to be happy. Jealousy is just drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die. So don’t let it take over you, okay?” However, Raya couldn’t help the way her anger was bubbling over her. She shouldn’t be jealous because Namaari wasn’t hers to claim. She wasn’t even an object to claim, and she had every right to be happy with anyone else. She was allowed to have friends, she did have that chance, compared to her who didn’t. But why was it that her heart twisted when she thought she was the only one blessed to see that smile on the Fang princess’ face, or how she thought she was the only one capable to let her relax and laugh the way she did. She didn’t know Namaari let other people touch her further than a handshake.
The lump in her throat grew as she watched them longer. Her jaw clenched and her teeth gritted harshly. She felt the familiar anger flowing through her veins, reminding her what she had used as fuel to get rid of any obstacle out of her way. She felt things too deeply, it was how she had always been, to feel each and every bit of it so she could use it as energy to punch her way out. Her body was buzzing with the need to hurt, her blunt nails digging through her palms with force willing herself to ride the anger out. She took in a sharp breath, her fist clenching with the inhale and unclenching as she exhales. She willed herself to turn around from the sight but just as she was about to walk away, a voice pulled her back. “Raya! You’re here.” Namaari’s voice contained a hint of excitement. The Heart princess immediately swallowed the bile in her throat, letting out a smile that only came naturally because of the other princess’ beaming expression, otherwise she didn’t know how to explain the grimace that would’ve come out instead as her eyes spared a glance at the tall figure beside the warrior. Raya felt the other girl’s penetrating gaze piercing through her, but she kept her attention at Namaari as she slowly approached them. “Hey, dep la” She purposely spoke out enchantingly, or at least she hoped so.
Her flirting skills lacked incredibly so, and she was way too embarrassed to admit that to anyone. Although, Sisu had called her out on it during the times she tried to woo the Fang princess, but it never got through. The way Namaari’s smile grew told her enough it worked. She pushed back the urge to bite her lip and pull her close. “Are you up for a spar?” Namaari offered, her cat like grin challenging her. Raya would usually say yes but her gaze shifted to the sturdy woman beside her, “Actually, I saw you guys sparring earlier. I want to challenge your friend into a spar instead” Somwang narrowed her eyes suspiciously at the Heart princess, sensing the slight tenacity in her words. Her polite smile slightly wavering as their gazes turned heated. “Actually, she’s my—" “I accept your challenge, Princess Raya.” The taller warrior spoke up, cutting off Namaari entirely. Her attention was now too fixated on the Heart princess. The Fang warrior stepped closer, raising a hand out for Raya to shake, “I’m Somwang, it’s a pleasure to finally meet you” The princess sensed the sarcasm in her voice, her lips tugging into a mirthless grin. “Likewise,” Even if I wasn’t told of your existence. She wanted to say but bit her tongue. She raised her own hand to shake the warrior’s, her grip purposely hardening. She was fully aware the other woman was twice her size, but she was taught not to let her enemies physique dull her chances on winning. Her fighting style specifically aimed towards people who were bigger than her. Somwang returned the firm grip, her own shit-eating grin on her face, “Hand-to-hand or would you prefer weapons?” She asked as she scanned her petite body full of judgment. The condescending tone struck a nerve on the Heart princess, her eye twitching as she held her stare looking up the warrior, “Hand-to-hand is perfectlyfine” She exclaimed sarcastically. She might regret this later, but she wasn’t about to let brawn and no brains binturi get to her. Namaari stood there, her face scrunching up at the sudden tension in the room. She was beyond confused but she guessed it was just both of the people’s traits of being competitive. She shrugged it off stepping back to let them do their thing. Raya finally let go of the warrior’s hand, her skin buzzing from the touch. She felt the anger boiling in her veins, her heartbeat increasing rapidly at the rush of adrenaline that surged through her skin. She hadn’t faced a big challenge like this in a long time. She was glad for the further training from Namaari herself and her Ba. She had been doing a lot to improve her hand-to-hand, the meat in her bones also had returned from the proper nutrition she was now receiving compared to the six years alone. Her mind flashing through the match against Namaari in Spine. Her body lacking the nourishment was a huge disadvantage at her strength, she may be good at weaving her sword, but she wasn’t that great with the strength needed in hand combat. She strived to be better from then on.
She stretched her limbs as she watched the Fang warrior step back a few steps, she cracked her knuckles then proceeded to a fighting stance. “You both know the rules” Namaari reminded. The Heart princess seemingly had forgotten that she was there and why exactly she was doing this, the excitement was coursing through her veins. She got into her fight stance nodding, her eyes narrowing mischievously at the sturdy woman in front of her who matched the same fiery in her gaze. As the Fang princess signaled the start, Raya didn’t hesitate to charge first. Her legs had been impatient throughout the day, aching to be moved. She raised her fist feigning a swing, the Fang warrior instinctively moving to block it, but Raya grinned as she used her speed to slide in between the other woman’s spread legs. She quickly scrambled up and used the distraction to kick her in the back forcefully causing her to stumble frontwards on her knees. “Oops. Sorry, khun Bulky.” She taunted jokingly eliciting a slight snicker from the Fang princess on the sidelines. Raya charged once again ready to kick but Somwang rolled on the floor catching her foot on time. She locked her grip on her ankle tripping her in the process then pulled her towards her fist as she swung to punch. The Heart princess blocked it in time, but the impact of the strike caused her to inwardly flinch. She managed to use her other foot to kick the warrior’s face, freeing her ankle as she scooted backwards to stand. Somwang stood along with her charging with a series of well calculated punches that she dodged swiftly. She acknowledged the force behind her jabs, each blow she blocked leaving a pleasantly painful feeling around her arms. But the slow speed in which it came she used to her advantage to slip her own fast blows on her midsection. “You are annoyingly fast” Raya heard the Fang warrior grumble under her breath. A cocky grin made its way to her lips, she was about to spurt out another retort, but the short distraction was enough for her to feel a terribly harsh blow on her cheek that was definitely going to leave a mark. She temporarily saw white spots clouding her vision, but quickly blinked them off as she backflipped away from the next punch. She ran her tongue inside of her cheek, tasting the copper in her mouth. She grinned in delight at the burning sensation, “And you’re annoyingly tough.” The Heart princess charged once again, she used the other warrior’s towering height to her advantage as she stepped on her thighs using it to boost herself up letting the tip of her boot kick her under her chin with much force. She flipped back over quickly before spinning around throwing a roundhouse kick on the side of the warrior’s cheek. The tall woman stumbled to the side clumsily, the impact momentarily pausing her movements. The satisfaction buzzed through Raya’s body, giving her time to get her bearings. Usually, she would have ended the fight, but she was having too much fun. Long gone was the anger that fueled her, instead replaced with a questionable excitement. “Don’t tell me your body is just for show. I didn’t know the princess of Fang associates herself with walking tree trunks” The familiar eccentric laugh she heard behind her caused the hairs in her body to stand, the goosebumps on her skin spreading happily. She watched the sturdy warrior in front of her chuckle lightly as she wiped the dripping blood of her cut lip. She didn’t reply, instead charging at Raya with newly found strength, her punches landing ruthlessly this time, the princess’ blocks slightly wavering. She used her fatigue against her as she pushed her elbows away and jabbed her right on the abdomen. The Heart princess huffed in irritation, her chest heaving after the strong blow on her stomach, stumbling backwards. The warrior kept going, striking and kicking her vigorously as she hastily flipped, spun, and dodged her strikes. How persistent. Raya thought to herself. She inwardly sighed, deciding it was time to end the match. She backflipped away once
more, making sure there’s enough distance to do her final trick she had learned from the princess of Fang herself. “You are one slippery and bouncy binturi, Princess gremlin.” The genuine smirk on Somwang’s lips caught her off guard. Raya narrowed her eyes but let an honest smile tug on her lips, “You’re not so bad yourself, khun giant” She dashed to her, raising her arms to feign more punches. Luckily to her prediction, Somwang steeled herself, ready to block, and possibly to grab her ankle again if she used it to kick. The Heart princess just scoffed, her eyebrows furrowed in concentration. She used her momentum to boost herself up into a jump, tangling her thighs around the Fang warrior’s neck before bringing her pelvis forward, her hands coming up to the floor using all her body strength to flip her tall, heavy figure over. Somwang landed with a loud thud and skidded behind her, her back arching in pain, her chest heaving as she stayed motionless on the floor. Raya walked over the fallen warrior, locking her arms in between both of her feet before crouching down, a victorious smirk on her lips. Somwang blinked blankly at the princess above her, her face flushed at the sudden proximity. “You’re pretty—" The Fang warrior started but was cut off. “—pretty good. You’re not wrong”
The warrior scoffed grinning, “That too but I mean, you are pretty.” Raya raised a brow curiously, taken aback at the sudden compliment, “Maari, I get it now” The warrior called out, twisting her head to face the Fang princess on the sidelines. Namaari’s eyes widened at what the other girl was insinuating but before she could say something, the Heart princess met her gaze, the words refused to leave her mouth then. Raya just slyly smiled before standing up and offering a hand to the Fang warrior under her. She gladly took it dusting herself off as she stretched her now pained limbs. “You are no joke, Princess.” Somwang commended, this time her look held no tenacious intent. Raya suddenly felt guilty for the previous ill thoughts she had against the warrior. She shrugged shyly, an apologetic look crossing her face, “Sorry for beating you up.” The sturdy woman raised a hand to wave her off, “No lasting damage. Plus, I think that was probably a perfect way to go.” The corner of her lips forming a smirk as she winked at the Heart princess. Raya blinked in surprise, her cheeks slightly coloring pink. Namaari, who finally joined them, grimaced at the comment, playfully shoving Somwang away, “Okay, match over” The Fang princess stepped closer to Raya reaching for now bruised hands and arms, “I’m sorry about my cousin. We should probably get your bruises treated” She spoke softly. The Heart princess flushed as she felt Namaari’s hands reach up to her cheek where Somwang had punched her forcefully, her thumb caressing the tender spot. She felt her heart doing somersaults as she instinctively leaned to the touch. She let out a tired sigh until the other princess’ words just processed in her brain. “Wait, she’s your cousin?” She blurted out before she could even think about it. Namaari quirked an eyebrow but nodded, her hand falling back down. Raya instantly missed the feeling. Somwang popped up from behind the Fang princess, a goofy grin on her face as she wrapped an arm around Namaari’s neck pulling her into a deadlock and ruffling the top of her neatly combed hair. “Yep. This kid is my cousin. I can’t believe we’re related sometimes because of how uptight she is.” The tall warrior stated as she casually smiles back at Raya while not even struggling at Namaari’s attempt to pull free from her grip. The Heart princess gaped in bewilderment. She felt the dread and guilt swimming through her body as she recalled her foolish actions for even thinking poorly about the other woman in the first place. She let out a huff of relief and shame, running a hand over her face. The Fang princess managed to jab her cousin hard enough in the stomach causing her to let go, she pushed her away fixing her shirt and adjusting her hair back in place as properly as she could. She turned to Raya, her forehead creased in concern, carefully grabbing her hand to gain her attention, “I was going to tell you, but Somwang here cut me off earlier and you guys were too focused on the spar to listen.” She tried to explain. Raya felt her squeeze her hand to emphasize, she offered back an understanding look. Somwang frowned wrapping her arms around her stomach, “That hurt you know. Your girlfriend already beat me up pretty damn well. Also, I can never turn down a challenge. She was more of a challenge then you are when we spar” She purposely jested, her vexing grin causing Namaari to twist her head and scowl at her, heat rushing to her cheeks. Before the Fang princess could comment and correct her, she felt Raya interlock their fingers, “She’s right, dep la. You’re losing your touch. I think that spar was the most fun I had in a while.” The Heart princess ignored the way her heart fluttered at the word girlfriend, a hopeful part of her mind celebrating the possibility that other people saw them that way even if it weren’t true. Namaari threw a betrayed look at her, she didn’t know how to feel about both of her favorite people ganging up on her. The sturdy warrior forcefully clapped Raya’s back causing her to stumble a
little, the blow leaving a stinging feeling behind her, “I think I don’t mind you as much now. You’re fun, Princess” Somwang complimented, cheerfully grinning. “I don’t know what Namaari told you about me, but I can assure you, they’re only partly true.” Somwang lets out a good-natured belly laugh, the Fang princess grimacing as she glanced between the two, “I can beat you both up if I wanted to” It was a weak retort, they all knew it, but she wasn’t about to let them team up. “You wouldn’t stand a chance, Náwng.”
The Fang princess simply rolled her eyes. She gripped back Raya’s hand tightly, before turning away and dragging her out, leaving Somwang’s protests behind them in the air. The Heart princess flushed at the warmth that spread through her body at the touch, the doubt in her mind slowly fading at the possibility of Namaari returning her feelings. Maybe she was wrong, energy wasted on jealousy. The Fang princess didn’t hold anyone else’s hand the way she held hers. A part of her couldn’t help but be thrilled at that revelation. They finally slowed down once they were far enough from the training grounds, Namaari’s hold on her hand still solid. She smiled quietly to herself, enjoying the comfortable silence as they strolled past the garden. “Sorry if I took too long. I know I said I’ll meet up with you, but I got pulled back by Somwang forcing me to spar with her for a while.” Namaari bashfully explained. Raya shrugged, “That’s okay. I happen to stumble by you anyway.” “You sure you weren’t just looking for me, dep la?” The Heart princess playfully shoved her, “You wish. I was itching for a spar. Good thing you guys were already there.” Namaari hummed, a knowing smirk on her lips, “Speaking of, since when did you learn to copy my move?” She asked recalling the last trick Raya had pulled against Somwang.
She was surprised she even managed to flip the sturdy half Spine woman over. Her strength left her wondering what else she could do with it, Somwang’s comment about it being the perfect way to go echoing in her head. “Why? Want me to try it out on you?” Raya raised a teasing brow twisting her head to look at the Fang princess who was fighting back the blush on her cheeks. She knew she failed when the other princess’ smirk just widened. Namaari cleared her throat an idea popping in her head, “I mean it’s only fair. I wouldn’t mind you returning the favor” She managed to quip back almost hesitating at the stimulating thought. However, she grinned victoriously at the widening eyes of the princess. The highly suggestive tone in her voice caused Raya’s heart rate to spike up, sinful actions flashing through her head. She licked her lips unconsciously, her teeth grazing the bottom as she imagined the feeling of her face between – Raya caught herself immediately, shaking away her thoughts as she swallowed to dampen her drying throat. She turned away from the Fang princess, her gaze focused on path in front of them but her mind reeling back to the way her hands felt under her fingers and how it would feel to explore further parts of her body like how she explored the whole of Kumandra.
She really needed to find a way to confess first, asap. -x- Oops, that's a long one. Sorry 🤷🏽‍♀️ Anyway. Hope you liked it, anon!

Jealous Namaari is here to stay:
Raya, walking into Namaari’s room and kissing her cheek: hey dep la!
Namaari, smiling: I’d kiss you back but I just finished my makeup. What are you up to?
Raya, pouting: I have to go to some meeting with my Ba to meet with the Talon Chief and his kids
Namaari, eye twitching: weren’t the chief’s kids basically hanging off you yesterday? Like, always touching you in some way and being all nice?
Raya, nodding: yeah, I’m pretty sure they’re trying to be extra sweet so that this alliance doesn’t fall through
Namaari, huffing: well, I guess I’ll have to let you go. But before I do that… *kisses Raya’s cheek*
Raya, laughing: I thought you didn’t want to ruin your makeup
Namaari, grinning: I just can’t help myself, you have a very kissable face *showers kisses all over Raya’s face*
Raya: *happy princess giggles*
Namaari, giving her one last kiss on the lips: okay, that should hold me over until you come back
Raya, blushing: uh huh. I’ll see you in a bit. Love you! *leaves*
Namaari, smiling evilly: love you too dep la. I love you too
Raya, arriving at the meeting: hey guys sorry I’m late! Got a hit held up!
Talon princess, smiling sweetly: oh it’s fine, we were just- uhhhh what’s that red stuff all over your face?
Raya, confused: what are you- *blushes as she finds her reflection in the mirror* damn it, looks like my girlfriend left a mark. Or, several marks…….
Talon princess, voice cracking: you have a girlfriend?
Raya, desperately trying to wipe the lipstick off: yeah, one that doesn’t bother telling me she got her makeup all over me. What a binturi-

I also watched Raya and The Last Dragon today! Spoilers under the cut!
- I love Sisu. She’s the right mixture of bright, bubbly and wise. What she said about being ‘empowered’ by her family’s trust in her really resonated with me too.
- The relationship between Raya and her father was genuinely touching. I really enjoyed the beginning of the film and how it showed how close Raya and her dad are, which made him getting stoned (lol) heartbreaking and the final scene were he’s revived so heart warming.
- I liked the supporting cast, particularly Tong. I found his need for human contact very relatable and he got a chuckle or two from me during his screen time.
- The settings were very enjoyable to look at, I wish got to see more of ‘Fang’ and ‘Heart’.
- Namaari is soooo gay for Raya. I love it. You can’t tell me she wasn’t jealous when Raya cuddled up to Sisu in Tail.
I did however go: “WTF Namaari” when she said Raya was at fault for Sisu’s death. Umm... girl... no. It was your finger on the trigger. You own that shit.
I still ship it because Namaari was willing to die in order to make amends with Raya, but if they make a sequel or a TV series, I need Namaari to apologise to Raya.
- I roll my eyes when people compare this movie to Avatar: The Last Airbender because the person may as well hold up a sign saying: “I have not bothered my ass to consume other forms for Asian or Asian inspired media and rather than admit this, I will be obnoxious about how ATLA is the best thing since sliced bread.”
WATCH. ANOTHER. TV SHOW.
If you want to compare Raya and The Last Dragon to another movie, compare it to Over The Moon. Over The Moon is a retelling of a Chinese myth and it’s sooo good. I think if Raya and The Last Dragon took the creative licenses Over The Moon did, it would recapture that “Disney magic” people are longing for.
Also, Over The Moon is a fantasy series based on real Chinese Myth and a real Asian country, so it already beats RATLD and ATLA in the representation department.
- As you can see, I enjoyed Raya and The Last Dragon, but I do have some criticisms of it. Some other people commented that they felt like the movie was “playing it safe” and I agree with this statement. I don’t know how to put my thoughts into words, but it feels like at times they could have pushed the boundaries a bit more, but chose not to because they didn’t want to alienate anyone in the audience.
- I also think this movie should have been a tv series, with an episode exploring each part of RATLD’s world. It has so many beautiful environments and cultures, it’s a shame that we didn’t get to see more of it. I think it would have also helped to flesh out the characters and relationships.
Overall... I enjoyed the movie, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t expecting more. I really do hope we get a tv series or a sequel to flesh things out.

Rayaari headcanon - growing up in the foster system AU
(inspired by this lovely anon)
Raya is placed in a group home when she is five. She can't really remember her parents, or anything about the accident that led to her being placed at the orphanage, but she carries the scars on her face for the rest of her life - reminders of how her life changed so dramatically at such a young age.
She also can't actually remember meeting Namaari. Later, when she searches her memories, they are always simply 'Raya-and-Namaari', a rambunctious duo who do everything together.
Namaari lost part of her left arm in an accident, and carrying such serious scars at a young age is perhaps why they feel they are kindred spirits. However it happens, they are inseparable from the moment they are both placed at the orphanage. And if any of the other children try to tease either of them about their respective scars, the other will happily begin an argument, resulting in actual fist fights so often that they receive endless 'time out's from their carers.
Whenever Raya suffers from a nightmare, Namaari will shuffle out of bed, crawling instead under the covers beside Raya and whispering a quiet 'there, there' as she pats Raya's shoulder.
No child in the orphanage has many personal belongings, or a sense of 'owning' much. Therefore, at any available opportunity, there is jealous hoarding whenever books, toys or sweet treats are gifted. Raya will secretly save her sweets however, and happily share with Namaari, since she knows how much her friend loves sugary food.
When they are seven, they braid together bracelets out of string, and tie them around each other's wrist. 'Friends forever?' Raya asks, and Namaari solemnly shakes her hand. They agree to never remove the bracelets, as a sign of their vow of friendship.
When they are eight, they are moved to a foster home in order to have better care. Virana is a strict parental figure, but she loves all of the children in her home fiercely, no matter where they have come from, and how long they stay with her. Namaari and Raya never even considered there would be a possibility that they would be separated, so they go to their new home happily enough. Virana already has a couple of older children living with her, including a teenager called Sisu, who at first Raya assumes is a Cool Older Teen, but in the end is a dork who loves playing make-believe with them.
Raya has her very first real birthday party at Virana's house, celebrating her ninth birthday in style. She receives a beautiful dragon pendant from Namaari, who had dragged Virana around several stores before finding the perfect gift, and Raya wears it with pride. It's the first time she owns anything that is not just sentimental in value, but actually cost something significant.
A couple of months later, Raya is adopted. Her adoptive parents seem like nice people, especially Benja, her potential new father figure, and so at first she is excited. They bring her presents and seem happy to spend time with her, listening to whatever she wants to talk to them about, and showing her pictures of a boy called Boun who is apparently their biological son.
But when it comes time to actually join her adoptive parents, she has to be dragged out of the house almost kicking and screaming when it hits her that she will truly be separated from Namaari.
Virana holds onto Namaari's hand tightly as Raya gets loaded into the car. As it begins to pull away, Raya's tearful small face peering through the rear window, Namaari breaks free, running after the car desperately until it pulls into the distance.
Benja feels awful as he hears Raya's sobs from the backseat of the car; he had discussed with his wife about adopting two children, but they truly can only support one, considering they have another very young child at home already.
Raya is determined to hate her new house, and her new 'parents', angry at how they've brought her to a city miles away from Namaari. But they are genuinely good people who want to create a place for her in the family, and over the months she softens towards them.
A year later, she is forced to untie the friendship bracelet Namaari had made for her, as it is becoming too tight around her wrist thanks to a recent growth spurt. Benja finds her crying over the bracelet in the bathroom. 'Come with me, Dewdrop,' he says, gathering her up. They find an extra piece of ribbon to tie at both ends of the string braid, making a bracelet that can now be adjusted as Raya grows. Afterwards, Raya says 'I love you' to Benja for the first time.
Over the years, Raya tries to find Namaari again. But Namaari had no surname that she knew, and Raya cannot recall Virana's last name either. Her parents only dealt with the agency, so even with them all trying, their searches come up empty. Raya feels more despondent each time they fail to find Namaari, and at some point says to her family that perhaps she should give up looking, considering it always ends in heartbreak.
As he grows up, Boun sees how difficult this perpetual failure is for his older sister, and unbeknownst to Raya, continues his searching online, scouring social media platforms endlessly.
Two days before her nineteenth birthday, Raya receives a text from Boun asking her to meet him for coffee. When she arrives at the cafe, he meets her at the entrance, and before she can ask him what is going on, he points to a table in the far corner of the room, and then slips out the door behind her.
Sat in the corner is a beautiful young woman, with stylish and shiny dark hair, and a metallic-looking prosthetic arm resting on the tabletop. As Raya approaches, the woman tucks her hair behind her ear nervously, and Raya can see a slightly frayed braided piece of string wrapped around the woman's finger as a ring, in sharp contrast to the beautifully designed earrings being worn.
''Maari?' she asks, hardly daring to believe. Namaari's head shoots up, and their gaze meets for the first time in almost a decade. 'Raya?' she asks in return, and then they are hugging tightly.
