Android Tim Drake AU:
Drake Industries announced they had successfully created realistic-looking androids that passed the Turing Test (and harder versions of it). They were planning to release commercial models to the public within twenty years.
To go a step farther, the Drakes wanted to ensure no one was skeptical of the androids' abilities to pass as human. Thus, Janet and Jack Drake had a healthy "human" baby by the name of Timothy Jackson Drake. The only individuals aware of this are Tim, Janet, Jack, and a small handful of engineers bound with a fuck ton of NDAs. They planned to tell the public when Tim was eighteen.
While Janet and Jack Drake are aware of Tim's ability to mimic emotions, they do not believe him to be capable of actually feeling them. This leads to Tim's childhood being lonely and neglectful. He is a robot.
At first, Tim is incapable of consuming human foods or using his touch sense. They fix his touch sense by the time he is four (and thus Dick is his first hug), and the food by the time he is six. He is constantly undergoing repairs to allow him to mimic the growth pattern of a child. It's when he is nine that he finally gets pain sensors to discourage and alert him to damage.
Tim is, for all intents and purposes, legally a human. When Janet dies and Jack gets into a coma, Tim stops receiving "growth spurts." He remains the same size even after Jack wakes up from his coma.
When Tim becomes Robin, he does not disclose his status with Bruce, Dick, or anyone else. Given that his parents treat him like an object, a machine, and incapable of feelings, Tim doesn't want to be subjected to that by his heroes either.
Instead, he gaslights the hell out of the Bats, villains, and other heroes whenever he gets hit.
["Tim! You got flung into a building. You are getting a medical exam."
Tim narrows his eyes as his eyebrows raise in surprise. "Bruce.... what are you talking about?"
"I saw you get thrown into a building. You're not getting out of this."
Tim glances to the side and then back to his mentor. He carefully places a hand on Bruce's shoulder. "B... Maybe we should have Alfred check you over."
Bruce blinks in shock as his brows furrow. "What?"
Tim purses his lips and shakes his head in pity. "It's okay, B. We'll figure it out. Whatever is going on, we'll fix it."
Bruce is so confused and concerned he doesn't ask Tim to get a medical check and agrees to be checked over instead.]
Tim becomes an expert at repairing himself because he can't explain to the engineers (most of who were let go after Janet died) how he got damaged. He spends a lot of nights alone in his room turning off his pain sensors (which isn't an automatic process and is difficult to reach)in order to fix the mangled hand, the gaping gash, the crooked foot, etc.
Kon, and conversely YJ, are the first to find out about his status (darn x-ray vision and super hearing). This encourages Tim to create artificial sounds within himself to fool Superman when they first meet. This also forces Tim to wear a long-sleeved uniform and a hood to hide from x-ray vision.
Tim finds comradery with Red Tornado.
When Jack wakes up from his coma, he originally treats Tim as he did before: an object. Dana, though, changes this. Jack can't explain why he treats his "son" that way and slowly morphs into becoming a good father.
It starts as only occurring when Dana is in the room and ends with a very bitter and antagonistic Jack when she leaves. He is initially disturbed by how much Tim is "faking" emotions, particularly because Tim learned to conceal his emotions from his parents as a coping mechanism (not that Jack knows this).
As they start spending more and more time together, Jack begins accepting the idea that Tim is capable of emotions. He starts caring and loving the kid as his own.
Because of this, Jack becomes fearful for Tim. When he learns that Tim is Robin, he is both jealous of Bruce's relationship with Tim and absolutely terrified for his son (what happens if people find out that Tim is an android? How would they treat him? Tim told Jack the Waynes don't know about his status. What if Tim gets injured too badly during a mission and they find out?)
This is why Jack initially forbids Tim from being Robin. There is way too much at stake for Tim if he continues (even though, theoretically, Tim can't die. Jack can keep saves of Tim and import him into a new body if necessary. They both don't want to do this, however, because Tim's body is his. It would feel weird and wrong to put him in another one).
While Tim is prohibited from being Robin, Jack bankrupts his company in the process of getting Tim rights. He bribes the hell out of judges, law makers, etc. to subtly put I'm rights for androids. He wants Tim to have full access to his inheritance, to freedom, and to everything humans can do. He doesn't want Tim to be without it.
Tim doesn't understand why Drake Industries is going under and is pissed at Jack for preventing him from being Robin. Robin is everything to Tim. It allows him to be treated as human. It connects him to so many people.
It's only afterwards, when Tim is finally allowed to be Robin again (and Jack has ensured he did everything he could for now for Tim's rights), that Tim fully understands how much Jack loves and cares for him.
Then Jack dies.
Tim is able to hide the fact that he's an android up until a Red Helmet asshole breaks into the Tower. While YJ whisk him away before the Bats can find out, Jason knows. Jason found out.

DP x DC Prompt #58
Jason has been writing fanfiction ever since he got access to a computer. They weren't always the most popular, especially since he was writing fics about classics, but that's not why he wrote them. He wrote them for himself.
However, since he always had Robin stuff going on, his author notes had become something of a meme at this point. No one really believed him anymore when he apologized for late updates due to breaking his arm in three places or anything like that.
Then, he died. He had been two chapters away from ending his story, damnit.
But it's fine, he's back now. He apologizes for late update since he, ya know, died and finishes that story. Then, he finds out there's another author out there with notes ... very similar to his own. And a lot of humor about his own death.
Maybe PhantomNotBill087 and him had a lot more in common than being fic writers.

OK, which comics people consider "good writing" for Jason as Red Hood? Because it seems as if anytime he appears is labelled "bad writing" for his character. At this point, it seems only Under The Read Hood is good, but, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, one story from 20 years ago isn't enough to determine his whole character? Can he not change and grow? Get worse perhaps? Should he be stuck behaving exactly the same forever, which is at a point in his life where he was really not well mentally? And don't answer Lost Days, that's the story about how he grew to be like he is in Under The Red Hood, that's not answering how he should behave now.
Btw, this is not an invitation to tell me how you would write Jason as Red Hood or what you want to see him do, and what you want DC to do with him. I'm asking WHAT CANON are you basing yourself on.

tl;dr: I think being trapped in a time loop would fix him
[Plain text under the cut]
I read like two different jason time loop fics which both featured jason coming to the cave for help or resources when people didn't expect him there which makes me think that the loop helped make jason aware that he could come to his family for help and anyways jason gets stuck in a time loop shortly after becoming the Red Hood bruce is aware or at least suspects his identity but he hasnt communicated that to anyone else yet so for a couple of loops jason tries to figure out what's going on but all of his league contacts are either unhelpful or unreachable within the time frame and he gets frustrated and he spends a while just. living out all of his sadistic fantasies he gets to do every dramatic reveal, he gets to kill each one of them, and they're spitting and defiant and telling him he isn't the jason who died but after a while it stops being satisfying and he gets desperate for a way out he knows by this point that bruce hasn't told anyone about him, so his new plan is to talk to one of them away from bruce and just lie Dick is the obvious choice, and that's how jason finds out that dick has been hallucinating him while he's been gone he is not very useful. it's really hard to convince him that jason is legit and then he just gets really emotional and doesn't pay attention to the time loop at all also jason feels really weird about it
so he tries tim. he's like. okay. he doesn't know you're the red hood. you just have to be civil to him for one loop and when it turns out he can't do anything you try something else but tim is also like. really emotional about him apparently? but when jason tells him there's a time loop he takes it really seriously tim is like "why didn't you go to bruce?" and jason is like "i tried that. when he finds out he makes it worse" which is a very plausible thing for someone in a time loop to say so tim believes him Tim's like "obviously i have to verify" and jason is thinking to himself what a waste of time this all is. but tim gets his permission to bring babs in on things and that's how jason finds out about oracle and the clocktower so thats useful at least they use babs equipment for blood tests and tim grills jason on things only he would know and jason is like. hey. why do you know any of that stuff and by the time that tim is satisfied that Jason is who he says he is and that what he says is happening is happening the day is basically over and jason is like well thanks for nothing
and Tim's like, oh, sorry, this is just the setup. next time just tell me this timeloop code, I'll know that I trusted you enough to give it to you so I'll listen to whatever you say which actually does work to Jason's surprise, tim just asks him how many times and what they've already tried and they get down to business tim always has a freakout over jason being alive but that freakout can come at different times of the day depending on how jason plays it jason is still mad at tim and frequently snappy with him but it takes a few loops for him to just yell at tim that he's the red hood and he's been killing people and he was planning on killing tim (not strictly true originally but like. he has done it, so) and tim is like. hm. that makes it pretty personally dangerous for you to know my time loop code, since it makes me just drop everything and listen to whoever says it. but also i think you do need help so i guess I'm still glad you have it. and jason is like WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU
anyways on a later loop tim convinces him to sneak into the bag cave for the tech and bruce catches them there and jason is like well that's this loop shot but bruce is just like ……. jason? 🥺 you came home? anyways the fic is about jason realizing that he never needed to do all that shit, and actually he finds it rather distasteful, and he can just. go home. if he wants on the last loop he has to like leave gotham to go stop whatever is causing this and it takes all day so he doesn't even talk to them so he has to make the real choice to start up relationships with all of them for keeps and by that point he's experienced so much time loop violence that the first thing he says to bruce is, I'm not gonna kill anyone, at least for now. we can talk about the morality of it and stuff and i will legitimately discuss it with you but right now i just don't want to so that can be our truce and bruce is like, sobbing at having his kid back he uses the code on tim one last time and tim jerks to attention but Jason's like nah relax the loop is over, just wanted to say thanks for all the help
#that should be a new gimmick polls blog#would being trapped in a timeloop fix them or make them worse#for example I think a timeloop would be devastatingly terrible for either dick or tim's mental health#bruce could go either way#partially depends on if it's a normal time loop or one of those ones where your loved ones die over and over i guess#ANYWAYS#under the hood era jason timeloop would be FASCINATING#the incredible violence he would get up to#and eventually realize is empty and meaningless because none of it changes the ways in which he was hurt#(none of it changes anything actually. because timeloop)#and that the only way for him to really start to heal is to move on (and get help)#the fam dealing with him post timeloop would be. so confused#like we are going directly from duffle bag full of heads to jason showing up at the manor like awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck#like heeeeeeyyyyyyyyy guysssss...... can i come in.........#alfred is not mentioned in my spiel because jason was specifically avoiding him for the whole time loop fiasco#the rest of the 'family' being horrified by what he has become is something that jason has convinced himself is what he wants#he wants the catharsis of their guilt and failure#but even then he knows that seeing alfred would just make him sad#babs barely gets mentioned but I don't think jason was mad at her and also he didn't know she was still operating at first#once tim reintroduces them they get a pretty good rapport going#i mean as good of a rapport as you can gain when one of you has to start over every day. y'all understand#this is too many tags#jason todd#red hood#dc#dick grayson#tim drake#batman#batfam#time loop

Just A Thought:
Miguel O'Hara - but Bruce Wayne
Miguel O'Hara as Batman
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Miguel being a billionaire whose left the sole caretaker of his younger brother Gabriel when his parents are gunned down after a late-night play.
Left with the fortune and legacy of Alchemax, Miguel falls into dispair - and comes across a classified operation conducted by his father, a super potent and super addictive drug.
Rapture.
Not knowing, Miguel tries it once, and he finds himself hooked.
Over months the situation worsens. Gabriel gets worried about his older brother.
In search of answers, Gabriel discovers the truth - the source of Raptures creation. Their father having developed a hard-to-replicate super drug as a way to control Nueva Gotham's underground drug trade, funding Alchemax with laundered money.
Gabriel almost became a whistleblower, leaking the news to the press - but instead, he was killed by gunmen funded by Alchemax.
After Gabriel's death, Rapture floods Neuva Gotham's streets.
In less than a week, addiction skyrockets across the city.
Horrified at the discovery and the loss of his brother, Miguel seeks out a way to reverse his addiction - and undo the unspeakable corruption caused by his father.
Instead, his own invention does more harm than good - turning him into the The Spider-Man.
He fights crime in his usual blue and red suit except the blue is black and he has a cape all the time now
Tumblr media
The Spider-man fights crime by being a 'bug on the wall', undermining and brutalizing Nueva Gotham's underworld, trying to find the people who leaked Rapture to the streets - and ordered the murder of his brother.
FOLLOW-UP IDEA:
SpiderKids as Robins!!!!
Pavitr being Dick Grayson/Future Nightwing - the perfect and acrobatic star child. Bright and optimistic despite The Horrors. Loves his girlfriend.
Hobie being Jason Todd - the Robin Miguel first meets while the kids is stealing his tires. The kid who trashes the O'Hara Manor, gets a little too excited about kicking ass and talking back and beating up cops.
Killed by The Goblin aka Joker + Green Goblin together - Revived - HATES Miguel now.
Goes by Spiked Hood
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gwen being Tim Drake - the Robin that stays up until 3am. More into techie stuff. Close with Miguel but no where near the way he is with Pavitr. But she loves her siblings and half the time feels like the only Sane one.
BONUS IDEA!!!!
GABRIELLA AS DAMIAN WAYNE!!!! Xina being Thalia (minus the weird ummm uncomfy origins of Damian)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gabbie being Miguel's one blood child who he didn't raise from birth but met later. But he trains and raises her anyway. She's a natural at it. A bit ruthless considering the whole, raised by assassins thing though.
But she ADORES her older siblings though she'd never admit it. She hangs with her older brother Pavitr ALL THE TIME, especially after Pavitr becomes NightWing in Mumblud Haven (or Bludbai if you'd like)
She thinks Hobie is so cool, especially when he comes around with Starfire and Red Arrow (aka DiscoSpider Diane and Captain Anarchy Karl Morningdew). The three of them calling themselves Spiked Hood and the Outlaws - in reference to Hobie's spiked and hooded outfit.
Since Pavitr lives in Bludbai and Hobie dislikes Miguel - Gwen and Gabriella are the only ones who still live in the manor with Miguel and his e-maid Lyla - who is now full sized like Alfred, but still AI.
There's a spider signal in the sky.
J.Jonah is Commissioner Gordon. And every time he sees Miguel he's talking shit about vigilantes despite having to work with him cause Nueva Gotham is such a shit hole.
Miguel is still tired as hell because he's on patrol and gets a call from Lyla talking about how Hobie set fire to the manor curtains again 'but on purpose this time'
Do you see it do you see my vision are you picking up what I'm putting down

I have this little head canon that Jason (Todd, the Red Hodd) is secretly loved by the fae and little fairies, so much so that whenever Billy sees Jason, he's blindsided by the amount of glowing little fae lights around him that no one else can see. Like, Billy considered himself blessed by magic and the like, but whenever he sees Jason Todd, holy heck it's something else entirely!
Maybe the fae are protecting Jason from dying again and want to keep him safe at all costs, but Jason has like no idea at all until one day Billy just tells him that the amount of fae around him is insane/abnormal; showing him through a spell and it looks like a bunch of moths to a flame
Just something I thought might be funny
That's so cute!
I think the best part of this is that Jason has no idea that the fae like him. He's just going through his second chance at life thinking he was lucky and maybe making a few odd friends. He doesn't even care much about magic so he's totally blindsided by how many magical beings like him, and not just that, they help him.
Billy of course mentions it completely offhandedly during one of the few times he's allowed into Gotham to help with something. Jason is too stunned and confused to say anything before he flies off. So he spends several days stewing on it before figuring out where Billy lives so he can break in and demand a full explanation.
Billy is generally unphased, just a little grumpy at being woken up, and does the spell to show him.
And Jason is like "well shit, now I have to learn more about faeries". Which just delights his fae friends even more.

So much of y'all's characterization of Jason Todd only comes after he is dead. You even retroactively apply those traits to him pre-death.

Came back from the dead with fanart for one of my absolute FAVORITE ongoing fics right now, and that’s Take It Back Now Y'all by @tabletoptime . I got such a severe brainrot for this fic you won’t believe, it’s SO good, I can’t even describe why I love it so much, it has such a nice vibe, full of so many feelings I could literally make a rant about, it just feels so alive? I don’t know but I am absolutely obssesed with it!

Controversial Batman opinion: every relevant character in Batman, heroes and villains alike, is neurodivergent to some degree...
... Except for Alfred, who has to secretly make sure their neurodivergences don't clash too much. Yes, even the villains'.

I know most people want to see Jason away from Gotham but honestly his story only works in Gotham because that’s where he wants to be. His problem is Gotham.
It’s nice that they gave Jason a team but I feel like it should have just been called Outlaw with the focus mostly on Jason. I would have like a western inspired story but also have it set in Gotham with Jason going back to study and perhaps going into medical school. Him interacting with Talia on good terms because honestly I see her more a mother figure to Jason than Damian since Jason she got to raise. Bruce and Talia got to raise different sons and that’s a interesting thing to explore.
Jason could have had interactions with Leslie. Actually gotten to interact with characters like Stephanie and Cass without all the batfamily unit that writers like to portray. Like there could have been a balance with Jason figuring out his life while circling the life of Bruce. I also think that Jason would work great with an Oracle like character.
Also if we really want to talk about too many batfamily characters I feel like there are other characters in the batfamily who really don’t need Gotham but they stay because they are seen as Batman’s support and to be part of that Batfamily. The only characters from the OG characters that I feel where Gotham is important are of course Bruce, Jason, and I want to say Barbara since she operates out of the ctower and is closely tied to helping Batman. She’s invaluable to him.
I like Jason in Gotham, but he's not as tied down to it as Bruce might be. He will follow the problem out of the city if he feels strongly enough about it. That said, he will always come home.
That said this is ANOTHER reason I liked the mystical angle with Jason. It gives him a space to occupy that intersects but doesn't always overlap with that of other Gotham based vigilantes.
I also like him in Gotham because I like him being around to challenge Bruce. Batman likes to make it his way or the high way and I like Jason saying "fuck you this is my city too" while also trying to repair their relationship in a healthy way and not the bullshit way where we forget everything bad happened
