Sparkstember Day 23: Two Hands, One Mouth (The Wedding Of Jacqueline Kennedy To Russell Mael)
Love this album... It's still pretty fresh to me since I only got round to it earlier this summer, so I'll just keep this one brief and say that:
1) This whole tour seems so magical and special and honestly everyone who got to see these shows has won at life by my standards
2) Love Ron's piano with this sort of echoing sound, it's so specific to Sparks. This whole thing is like the pure essence of their work. Ron's keyboard mastery, Russell's voice which you can hear so clearly, the emotional impact is at its highest maybe, all in all what else could you want. This is going to be my go-to wind-down / chillout / whatever else I should call it album I can already tell, it's actually already helped me with such thing before, so. The soothing power of Sparks is at its best here
3) We need more Sparks live albums.
Not rambling about my favs individually this time because it's songs we know and love from other places anyway. So, some of my biggest highlights are Metaphor, Sherlock Holmes (holy shitttttt), Good Morning, My Baby's Taking Me Home (<3 <3 <3), Singing In The Shower, Dick Around, The Rhythm Thief... and the titular track (its studio version is also just ✨️✨️✨️, peak!!)
#i love it when i can pick colours straight from the album covers#otherwise idk really what to think about this drawing. like it's fine i guess. and i hope that what's going on here is clear enough#but i feel like i messed up the proportions a bit here lol#especially with ron. accidentally chibified him#i feel like there's so much potential esp with this album for illustrating it with something very pretty and dramatic and emotional#but well i didn't have any such great ideas this time. so i'm looking forward to everyone else's interpretations (as always)#sparkstember 2024#my art#goose monologues

if i can bombard you with questions from the ao3 wrapped really quick lol,,
12, 18, 19, 27, and 29 (or whichever ones you want to answer because that's quite a few)
(Send me more questions from this list! :D)
12. How many WIP’s do you have in your docs for next year?
Oh gosh this is embarrassing 😂 I really hope to have finished Twin Flames by the end of the year, so hopefully it won't be a WIP in 2023. But other than that.... 5 multichap fics (they're all on AO3), as well as a couple pieces I'm currently working on for upcoming zines. I really hope to finish at least some of my longer works in 2023!!
18 The character that gave you the most trouble writing this year?
I actually had to stop and think about this question but... I don't think there's been a character that gave me trouble? It's been a good writing year all in all, and I didn't have much trouble with any particular work or character. I'm really happy about that, actually!
19 What’s one pairing you want to explore next year?
Oooh, that's a good question. I don't think I'm ready to move on from any of the pairings I'm working on right now tbh, and I have plenty of ideas for all of them. But I never know what pairing might occupy my brain at any given moment, so I guess we'll see what the future holds!!
27 What do you listen to while writing?
I usually listen to a song or album on repeat while writing certain chapters/fics. I also like listening to ambient noises like rain or snow or whatever the scene I'm writing is set in. Other times, when a scene is hard to write, I prefer not listening to anything at all so I can focus completely. Depends on the mood, really!
29 Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?
That's so hard!! I can't choose!!! I really like everything I've written for patrochilles this year, especially for High-Flying Birds. I would say that everything Clytemnestra said and did in Ch. 21 "The Sacrifice" was really satisfying to write. I also love this bit from Ch. 23 "On a Wave, Washed Away":
I opened my eyes to a foreign dawn. A sunbeam, pale and thin and straight, fell on Achilles’ form, his soft eyelids. He was perfectly still as always when he slept, only his chest rising with every breath.
Since I had awoken, I had been silent. The copper bowl on the washstand shone, reflecting the light; the sunbeam played on it so charmingly. It was innocent and simple in the morning calm. It felt like a consolation.
I sat up on the pallet, careful not to disturb Achilles. Soon he would stir from his slumber. The servants would bring him his breakfast, then I'd help him strap on his armour piece by piece: his breastplate, his gauntlets, his greaves. He would pick up his sword and his spear, his heavy shield, pull his helmet with its thick horsehair plume over his head and ride his chariot to battle. He would return in the evening, tired and covered in sweat, in dust, in blood. Like the sun, he would rise bright and golden, and return to me the colour of rust.
Patroclus bby 😭 he gives me SO many feelings!!!!!!!

Scrapbook
Jungkook x reader genre: fluff word count: 1.7k
a/n: Not really sure what inspired this or where it came from, my walls are covered in pictures so possibly that, and also possibly because I would love to scrapbook but can never be bothered. Hope you enjoy :)
Photos surround you like a rainbow on the floor. A mixture of Polaroid’s and prints of different sizes are scattered around you. Sitting cross legged on the floor with a photo album in front of you, you have the best view to see all the different pictures. A mixture of memories from the past year.
As well as photos you have a scattering of different patterned washi tapes, coloured pens and stickers. You’d been meaning to create a photo album of all your years memories but had kept putting it off. Creating one for each year, you aren’t sure what had put you off doing it for so long as you had all the stuff ready. You weren’t sure what made you decide today was the day, maybe the wet weather, maybe boredom, maybe the fact the pile of photos in the corner of your room was starting to piss you off.
You’d decided to do the photo album chronologically and had somehow managed to arrange the photos in front of you in some sort of order, though there were a few photos you were struggling to place. So far, you’d managed to do two months of the year and were just moving onto the third when there was a knock at the door. Knowing who it was you shout, “it’s open behind you, focus staying on the project.
The door opens and closes, and you hear shoes being removed before feet shuffle across the floor towards you.
A body flops on top of you, weight almost fully weighing down on your back, arms loosely wrapping around your waist as a head leans on your shoulder. A noise of complaint and surprise leaves your lips from the unexpected weight and almost immediately it lessens as the person shifts enough to support their own weight, though they still remain in the same position.
“Sorry,” Jungkook twists his head enough to kiss your cheek before looking back at what’s in front of you. “What you doing?”
“Finally putting all these into an album,” you say. “Want to help?”
You feel the nod of his head on your shoulder and his body starts to move from your back until he is sat next to you. You turn to look at him and see his eyes flicking over all the pictures a bunny smile on his face. His arm reaches out to pick up a Polaroid of the two of you, you are sat in his lap, his arms are wrapped tightly around you and he has a found smile on his face while he looks at you, your head leaning back into his shoulder slightly, eyes closed as you laugh.
“I love this one,” he smiles.
You hum in agreement, leaning into him slightly so you can better see the picture. “That was at Zoe’s house warming,” you say. “You can have it if you want.”
“You don’t want to add it to the album?” He looks over at you.
“If you don’t want it I will,” you raise your eyebrows at him.
He hums at you, eyes going back to the photo. “I’m keeping it,” he says and you chuckle, expecting that response.
Putting the photo by his side, away from the other pictures so they don’t get mixed up, his eyes go back to the other photos scattered on the floor.
“This one's nice too,” he says, arm reaching out to pick up a photo of the two of you with your friend Vicky, Jimin and Tae. You’re all stood in a line with arms around each other and big smiles on your faces, a park in the background.
“Another good one,” you nod. “You can’t keep that one though, I’ll be left with no photos for my album if you keep taking them.”
“I’m just looking,” Jungkook says defensively though he has a big smile on his face. He places the photo back down where he had picked it and raises is arms up in defence.
“As you are here, can you help me remember when these were taken?” You pick up the three photos that you had placed next to yourself, outside of the rainbow of pictures as you couldn’t date them.
Handing them over to Jungkook he looks closely at the first picture. A picture of you holding a bonsai tree, though it’s small you hold it in both hands eyes wide as if you are scared, you’re going to drop it. In the background you can see an array of other plants, indicating you are in a plant shop.
“This was in late August when we were shopping for Namjoons birthday?” It comes out as a question even though he is sure of the date.
You hum in agreement lightly, “I wasn’t sure if it was early September of late August,” you explain.
“Definitely August,” he says more surely as he hands you the photo to place in the right location on the rainbow of photos.
The next photo is of you and Junkook both holding bowling balls. Back to back you hold the balls up to your chests and have serious faces on as if you are part of some bowling competition.
“God, this could be any bowling trip we did last year,” Junkook says.
“You make it sound like we are constantly bowling,” you laugh. “We only went a couple of times.”
“Well this could have been any of those times,” he holds the photo out for you to take. “Just put it in one of the months that’s light on photos,” he reasons, and you do as he says.
The last photo is one of you tucked up in bed with a massive teddy bear cuddled to your chest. You can only just make out your face peaking out the top of the covers, your mouth slightly open, eyes closed and hair sticking out at odd angles.
“I need your help with this one as I was asleep when you took it,” you explain.
“If I say I can’t remember when I took it does that mean I get to keep it?”
“You already took one,” you whine slightly. “I can print you off another,” you try to reason.
“It’s taken you how long to just start making this album, how do I know that you will ever get round to printing off another of these for me?” He mocks you.
“Fine. Have it. But you can do the next page as payment,” you say pushing the album towards him, a wide smile of triumph comes onto his face as he places the photo down with his other. “Those pictures on that side are up next,” you point to where you mean.
“Are you sure you trust me?” Jungkook looks at you with genuine concern. “I might ruin it?”
“You’re the most artistic person I know,” you roll your eyes at him. “If anything, you’re going to make me want to re-do the pages I’ve already finished.”
A wide smile appears on his face at your compliment and his eyes go to the floor in slight embarrassment. “But your pages look so good,” he returns the compliment. “I’ll try and keep to the theme.”
Shuffling closer you rest your head on Jungkooks shoulder so that you have a good view of what he is doing, your chest lightly pressing into his back. You watch as he places all the photos on the page, shuffling them round a few times to get the best layout. When he’s decided the perfect placement he picks up some of the washi tapes you have, deciding to do a mix of colour and patterns he starts to meticulously tear off the perfect length before pressing it down on the page to stick the photos in place.
As you watch him work you feel an almost calmness come over you. The detail and care that Jungkook put into all of his work, even something as small and seemingly meaningless as this. He never failed to make you feel in awe of him.
“It looks so good,” you say as he sticks down the last photo.
“It’s not done yet,” he mumbles, his concentration still on his work.
Reaching over he picks up the range of stickers you have. He spends a few moments going through each one until he has picked the best ones, sticking them down to fill in some of the gaps, making the page look ten times better. Next he picks up a pen and starts to write on the page. His hand moving slowly and with purpose, ensuring he uses his best handwriting so as not to ruin his work. You see him writing dates by photos as well as some descriptions such as places.
Capping the pen, he sits back up straight to admire his work. You both sit in silence for a second as you look over the page.
“Beautiful,” you say after a moment.
“Only because there’s pictures of you on it,” he twists his head so he can see your reaction, a big smile on his face showing he’s pleased with his cheesy joke.
You poke his sides slightly making him squirm. “Just get on with the next page,” you say.
“Don’t you want to do it?”
“I like watching you do it,” you say. “Plus, you still owe me from those two pictures you stole.”
“But yours looks so good,” he says and you can tell he means it. “And I didn’t steal them, you gave them to me.”
“I’ll do another page later, just get on with it Jeon,” you say.
So that’s how you spend the rest of your day. Both of you taking turns in creating a page full of pictures. Reminiscing over memories the two of you had shared. Laughing at things you’d both almost forgotten and remembering all the beautiful places you’d been together. And Jungkook constantly trying to take all the cute and nice pictures of you he could.

Hey everyone, when I finished writing Will and Kate nearly 7 years ago now, I felt like there really wasn't anything else I could say about them. And that's still true to an extent. A gave me the request/idea of writing something based on folklore/evermore and I love those albums as much as everyone else. They are incredibly inspiring and made me want to write. But I still didn't know how to make those into a William and Kate story. Until I realised that they didn't have to just be a William and Kate story. For that reason, I've written this without names. When writing it, I was thinking of them some of the time, and fictional characters some of the time. I wasn't going to tell you that because I didn't want people to not read it because of that. In the end I decided to be honest. You can use William and Kate as the characters, but equally you don't have to.
This story imagines what would happen if this couple had been apart for a few years and reunite for a weekend. It's based on 'tis the damn season. I really hope you enjoy and would love to know what you think.
Love, Maria x
Chapter 1 : You can call me babe for the weekend
In a small cottage covered in ivy, she stood in the kitchen waiting for the kettle to boil. Her hand twitched on the counter as she tried to resist the urge to look at her phone again.
Two days previously, she received a text that had made her heart lurch.
I’m in the area in a couple of days, can I come and see you?, it had said. Short and straight to the point. He hadn’t changed in that regard at least.
She had taken a few hours to reply. Of course she wanted to see him - partly out of sheer curiosity. But it had been three years since they’d last seen each other. And the decision to end things hadn’t been easy.
Eventually, after a few hours deliberation, she had replied with the address of the place that had become her sanctuary. And now she waited.
She poured the boiled water into a mug, added a tea bag and cupped her hands around it. She looked over to the old grandfather clock in the corner of the living room. In half an hour he would be here and she still hadn’t decided what to say to him. Or how to act. Instead of thinking about that, she had busied herself with cleaning the cottage top to bottom until there was not a speck of dirt left to wipe away.
She took her tea upstairs, each step creaking as she went. In her bedroom, she opened her wardrobe. Sitting down on the bed, she stared at the rows of clothes hanging up waiting to be chosen. None of them seemed to convey what she wanted to say.
I’m fine without you.
I still want you to find me pretty.
I don’t care what you think.
No piece of clothing could express that ridiculous combination of feelings. She got up and sighed, looking out of the window. It was 7.45pm now and already dark. The trees outside her cottage swung in the wind, the branches tapping against the window.
Going back to the wardrobe, she closed her eyes and ran her hand along the row of her clothes and pulled one out at random. It was a deep maroon knitted jumper dress.
‘That’ll do’ she said out loud.
Earlier in the day she had decided that she wouldn’t wear any make up. Why should she? But now, looking in the mirror, her face seemed tired and lifeless.
She grabbed some eyeliner out of the drawer and applied a wing onto her eyelids. A curl and a dab of vaseline on her eyelashes, and tint on cheeks and lips made her feel slightly more presentable.
She glanced over at the clock on her bedside table. 7.56pm. He wasn’t usually late. She took her mug downstairs and placed it in the sink, considering washing it to pass the time.
It was then she saw the headlights trail through the kitchen window. Taking a deep breath, she paced the kitchen listening to the sound of the engine switching off and the car door opening and closing. The crunch of his footsteps on the gravel path came closer until finally there was a soft tap at her front door.
*
He was the same as she’d always known him. Strong arms with the sleeves rolled up, piercing eyes that saw right through her.
‘Can I come in?’ he said. She suddenly realised that she hadn’t heard his voice in three years. She hadn't thought she’d missed it until right then.
‘Oh, yeah, come through’ she said, stepping aside.
He had to bend slightly to fit under the doorway. ‘Made for short people’, he said as he closed the door behind him.
‘It’s good to see you’ he said, those eyes surveying her.
‘You too’ she said. ‘Do you want a drink?’.
‘Sure’ he followed her to the kitchen, looking around at the tiny ground floor. A fire crackled under the living room mantlepiece, and cushions and throws were scattered around. ‘Lovely place, very you’.
She grabbed some white wine from the fridge without asking him what he wanted and poured out two glasses.
He took it gratefully and they sipped in an awkward silence. The grandfather clock ticked loudly and he walked over to look at it. Presumably just as something to do.
She followed him into the living room and sat down on the couch, her knees tucked under her. She moved a few cushions around to make space for him, placing one on her lap for comfort. He sat on the other side of it, sinking into it.
‘So why did you text me?’ she said, stroking the stem of her glass, faking nonchalance.
‘I told you, I was in the area’.
‘This isn’t really an area people come to visit’. She looked out of the living room window behind them. Although it was dark, he knew what she was referring to. She lived in a small village technically, but her cottage lay in a secluded area surrounded by woodland.
She had moved here three years ago as an escape and she loved it. It was just cut off enough to be peaceful, but not so far that she didn’t have people to turn to when she needed them.
‘Ok, the surrounding area’ he smiled. ‘The truth is I’ve been thinking about you recently’.
‘I’m sure you have much more interesting things to think about’ she said, looking into her glass to avoid eye contact.
‘Anyway...how have you been?’ he said, changing tack.
‘We don't have to do that’, it pained her to have small talk with him when they used to sit in such comfortable silence.
‘Do what?’ he looked genuinely confused and it occurred to her that maybe he couldn’t read her so easily any more.
‘The small talk thing, you can just tell me why you’re here’.
‘Ok’ he pulled in his lips like he always did when he was thinking about what to say, ‘well, the truth is I was coming to this side of the country for work and I wanted to see you’.
She smiled for the first time that night, ‘this side of the country?’
‘Yes, well I realise I might have come a bit out of my way’.
They paused and looked at each other. Their old dynamic started to shift back into place. The light teasing, the subtle looks.
‘Anyway’ he continued. ‘I guess I just wanted to see if you were ok. I never liked how things ended, you know that’.
Their break up was business-like. When she decided it was over, there were no more tears and arguments. Just a simple acceptance. She had packed her bags, wished him well out of courtesy and built a wall so high that not even he could break it. It had frustrated him to the point of madness. She refused to hug him goodbye. She didn’t even tell him she was moving away.
‘It’s what I needed to do’, she said, holding the cushion closer to her.
‘And now?’ he said, hope etched on his face.
‘Now...nothing. We’ve moved on. There’s no point in reliving it’
‘Have you...moved on with someone?’ he asked.
‘I didn’t mean it like that’ she got up and poured more wine into her glass even though it wasn’t empty.
‘Would you hate me if I said I was happy about that? I was dreading you telling me you had found someone’.
Her heart skipped, realising he was right behind her. She didn’t turn, not wanting his eyes on her.
‘I could never hate you’ she said quietly.
‘I’m not with anyone either, I broke up someone a few months ago, she was -’
‘If I wanted to know who you were hanging out with, I would’ve asked’, she said, breaking him off. When she was uncomfortable, she became curt. He knew that, and he would always challenge her on it by refusing to take offence.
She felt him come closer to her, I’ve missed you’.
It was the words she’d dreaded. ‘Don’t say that’, she replied, tightening the cap on the wine bottle as hard as she could.
‘Why not, it’s the truth’, he placed his glass on the counter. Clearly he was done with the niceties.
‘If you’ve come here to try and mess with my head, don’t bother’, she moved past him and put the wine bottle back in the fridge.
‘Why on earth would I do that?’ he said, trying not to fall for her favoured method of pushing him away.
‘I don’t know, you said you’d broken up with someone, maybe you’re lonely’.
‘I told you, I miss you and wanted to see you. If I was lonely, I could go elsewhere’.
She couldn't help but laugh at his arrogance.
He ran his hand through his hair, ‘how has this turned into an argument?’.
‘We’re not having an argument’, she said plainly.
‘Yes we are, and stop pretending that you don’t care’.
So he could still see through her after all.
The wind was picking up now, battering the branches harder against the cottage. They both knew there was nothing more to say. That they’d just go around in circles if they continued to talk. And she wouldn’t give him an inch.
Instead, they did what they knew they would as soon as he sent that text. What she knew would happen as she applied the colour to her lips earlier.
He reached out and pulled her in by the waist and she clutched at the fabric of his shirt at his stomach. When their lips met, she felt it all over her body. The ache of the last three years passing between them.
*
They lay tangled together in bed staring at the ceiling.
‘Are you ok?’ he said.
‘Yeah’, she turned to look at him. ‘Are you?’
‘Very much so’ he laughed softly, ‘I’ve missed you’.
‘You’ve said that already’, she teased.
‘I thought you might believe it this time’, he placed his hand over hers on the bed covers.
‘This can’t be, you know, a thing again’ she said carefully.
‘I know’, he said. ‘Not much has changed in my life, I didn’t expect to come here and take you home’.
‘Do you ever wonder why we never could make it work?’ she asked him, letting him play with her fingers.
‘Yes...and no. I knew you didn’t want the life I had to offer but I couldn't let you go. If I had stopped it earlier on, it would’ve saved us a lot of hassle’, he looked at the ceiling again as he remembered the two years they had together.
They had been happy, when it was just them. But it would never be just them and they both knew it. He was relentless in finding new ways to keep her close until he couldn’t anymore. Time alone became harder to find and the longer they went on believing they could be a normal couple, the less realistic it became. Eventually, after two months apart, she put an end to it. And she ran as far as she could. She knew he would try to maintain contact so she cut herself off from everyone they knew and stopped taking his calls. It had worked, for three years at least.
‘Do you want me to go?’ he asked, knowing that she would ask him to at some point.
She turned and rested her head on his shoulder, ‘not if you don’t want to’.
‘You know I don’t want to’, he placed his arm above her head and ran his fingers through her hair.
‘Stay...for a day or so if you want to’ she kissed him on the shoulder.
‘I can stay for the weekend’ he said.
She closed her eyes, knowing this would only end in heartache. ‘Then I’ll be yours for the weekend’.
*
The weekend was spent basked in the kind of peace they’d never find in the city. They took long walks around the woods, hand in hand. She pointed out the plants and wildlife and he soaked up every word.
In the afternoon, they just drove around the winding lanes, the mud covering his tyres. Sometimes they would talk, but never about the past, reluctant to let it in. At other times they’d drive in silence, her hand on his knee. Soon enough they’d get back to the cottage, restraining themselves until they shut the cottage door.
Inevitably, they’d end up warm and content under the covers, watching the autumn leaves flutter past her bedroom window and sleeping for the rest of the day.
Afterwards, they’d cook together and drink wine on the rug in front of the fire, her legs laying on top of his, talking about everything and nothing.
But time couldn’t stop for them and as she sat in bed watching him button up his shirt, that ache filled her again. It was an ache he too had in him, put there by her.
‘Am I going to see you again?’ he asked as he tucked in his shirt.
She put on a smile even though she knew he would sense it was a fake one, ‘maybe one day...just promise me something?’
He looked at her wrapped in the covers wanting nothing more to climb back into that warm bed.
‘Don’t wait for me’ she continued.
He bowed his head, looking at the floor, clearing his throat, ‘then don’t ask me to stay’.
She nodded silently.
He knelt on the bed and kissed her on the forehead, taking in the smell of her one last time.
‘I’ll see you out’ she said, running her hand over his forearm.
‘No stay here. It’s better like this’. He got up and opened the bedroom door, taking one last glance at her.
Somehow he knew, whatever road he went down, it would always lead back to her.
The end.

Kitten X
I can’t, and i can’t stress this enough, believe this frivolous ho has written a 10 part series. I mean, granted, a lot of it is straight porn. But still. I love these two. Lets marry them. Yes i did cry writing this because i am ridiculous and emotionally attached.
To catch up on this series please refer to my master post.
(this looks like a wedding photo right?!)
Kylo Ren AU x Reader Warnings: disgusting levels of fluff, mentions of pregnancy, NSFW
9 months later
“Better late than never!” Your mom smiled as she laced up the back of your gown.
“Oh come on, I’m hardly an old maid at 34 mother.” you sighed, rolling your eyes.
“I know, I know darling, we are very happy for you, your father and I. We were just worried we would be in the grave before you ever settled down” She patted your shoulder, “you look lovely.”
-
Your parents were old school. You were their only child, and they had you later in life after a long battle with infertility. Had they planned your life things would be very different. They had found your focus on academia and career baffling, failing to understand how it was more fulfilling than settling down and starting a family.
They meant well, they really did, and despite your contrasting beliefs on many matters, you remained close.
Kylo had survived a family Christmas, your mom was particularly smitten with him. He had survived 1000 questions, photo albums, extremely dubious political chat and constant hints about grandchildren. Every night you had apologized profusely, he just chuckled and told you they really weren’t that bad.
Kylo proposed in mid-January, booking out the entire the Italian restaurant you had your first date in. You had accepted through sobs, as the staff all clapped and cheered.
-
It was now August, and the leaves were changing colour, the days slightly cooler and shorter.
You had planned an intimate wedding in a downtown Hotel that you both loved the historical architecture of. In attendance were a handful of friends and family, uninterested in a big showy affair, you had opted on quality rather than quantity.
Your metallic silk gown made you feel beautiful. The corset design accentuated your figure, and the deep v neckline was sexy yet tasteful. The gown evoked 1920s glamour, and you had your hair styled and makeup applied to echo the era.
Your father even became misty eyed when he saw you, “Like an old-hollywood beauty, you look lovely sweetheart.” He said gruffly, trying to discreetly dab his eyes.
-
Heart pounding, you waited outside the doors of the small ceremony room clutching your father's arm.
Cat Power - Sea of Love began to play softly.
You were already blinking back tears as you stepped through the doors, Kylo’s head snapping up from where he stood at the front of the room.
He didn’t, for one second, take his eyes off you as you made your ascent up the aisle.
Kylo shook your father's hand when you made it to the front, he then placed his hand on the small of your back and leaned down and whispered in your ear.
“Y/n, babe, you look fucking incredible, so beautiful, Kitten.”
“Thank you”, you beamed, “you look so handsome.”
He did. In a classic tuxedo, Kylo looked very dapper. His eyes shone with emotion.
-
Time seemed to go at warp speed as you tried to soak everything up, remember every detail. How Kylo couldn’t take his eyes off you. How he whispered ‘my wife’ into your ear every so often, like he was in disbelief. How your mom and Jan clutched each other and dabbed their eyes during your vows. How Luke beamed at Kylo and clapped him on the back, expressing his pride.
As Kylo took your hand for the first dance, your heart swelled as the opening notes of Into my arms by Nick Cave played. You had told Kylo to pick a song and not tell you what it was.
His arm circled your waist and pulled your body to his.
I don't believe in an interventionist God But I know, darling, that you do But if I did, I would kneel down and ask Him Not to intervene when it came to you
Your eyes swam with tears for the upteenth time as he kissed the top of your head before resting his forehead against your own.
“Don’t cry Kitten.” He teased, his own eyes glossy.
You sang the words of the next verse softly to him.
Oh, not to touch a hair on your head Leave you as you are If he felt he had to direct you Then direct you into my arms
As the chorus played tears were running silently down your cheeks now, as happiness, gratitude and love overwhelmed you.
Into my arms, oh Lord Into my arms, oh Lord Into my arms, oh Lord Into my arms
Kylo wiped the tears away with his thumbs as he cupped your face, kissing your lips softly.
And I don't believe in the existence of angels But looking at you I wonder if that's true
“My angel.” He hummed, before pressing another kiss on your lips.
But if I did I would summon them together And ask them to watch over you Both to each burn a candle for you To make bright and clear your path And to walk, like Christ, in grace and love And guide you into my arms
Into my arms, oh Lord Into my arms, oh Lord Into my arms, oh Lord Into my arms
Other couples joined you on the floor, there weren’t many dry eyes to be seen.
You chuckled softly, nodding towards Jan “you better dance with Jan after this baby.”
Her face was blotchy from crying, as she looked on, radiating so much joy that Kylo couldn’t help but grin.
But I believe in Love And I know that you do, too And I believe in some kind of path That we can walk down, me and you So keep your candles burning Make her journey bright and pure That she'll keep returning Always and evermore
“Perfect song choice.” You sighed, as it came to a close.
Into my arms, oh Lord Into my arms, oh Lord Into my arms, oh Lord Into my arms
-
You blinked and it was over.
The honeymoon suite in the hotel was yours for the night.
“Let’s go consummate this holy union Mrs Ren” Kylo murmured playfully into your ear as you both walked into the elevator.
You giggled, buzzed on the champagne coursing through your veins.
“I can’t believe I have a husband.” You grinned, running your fingers down the lapels of his jacket.
“Can’t believe I bagged such a fucking hot wife.” He mirrored your grin, eyes dancing with mischief as you slapped his chest in mock shock.
The elevator dinged, and Kylo led you to the door of the suite.
“Can’t wait to kick these shoes off.” You sighed.
“Can’t wait to rip your dress off.” He replied, opening the door.
“Rip this dress and I will divorce you, Ren.” you deadpanned.
“You wound me, Kitten.” He winked, shrugging off his jacket.
You quickly stepped into the bathroom and slipped out of your dress. The lingerie beneath was as important as the dress. White and luxurious, the delicate lace bustier and thong accentuate your curves, stockings were held up by straps connected to the bustier. You primped your hair slightly before re-emerging and leaning against the door frame.
“So what- oh fuuuuuuuuuck!” Kylo stopped dead, midway through undoing his cuff links.
You raised your eyebrow with a smug smile, “what were you saying?”
“I was going to ask what you wanted to do…. if you wanted some more champagne.” He gestured blindly at the bottle next to the bed, eyes drinking you in.
“What I want,” you began walking toward him, as he sat on the edge of the bed, “is for my husband to make love to me,” You purred, stopping in front of him and bending over, resting your hands on his thighs, “then yes, I will have some more champagne, preferably in a bubble bath.”
“Babe, right now you could ask for anything and I would give it to you.” His voice a bit deeper, as you stood back up, his fingers ghosting down your sides.
You did a slow twirl, “do you like?”
He nodded dumbly, like his brain was short circuiting.
Clutching your waist he pulled you between his legs and kissed along your collarbone.
You loved how far his hands were able to reach around your waist, you felt so safe in those big hands.
You sighed happily as his mouth moved down, teasing your covered nipples with his tongue.
Reaching for his shirt you began fumbling with his buttons, as his hands slid down and cupped your bottom, squeezing gently.
“Lay on the bed.” Kylo murmurs against your skin.
You make a show of crawling into the middle of the plush mattress, wiggling your ass before laying down and propping yourself up on your elbows.
“Fucking hellllllllllllll, that is my wife!” His smile devilish and smug and he strips off his remaining clothing.
“Kylo?” he pauses and looks up, just as he is about to pull down his trousers. “I’m not on birth control anymore.”
You chew your lip nervously as it dawns on him what you are insinuating.
“Do you want to-” he began, eyes wide.
“I mean, only if-”
“YES, yes! Fuck! babe, are you serious?” The hope and glee on Kylo’s face was enough to make you melt into a puddle.
“I want nothing more than my husband to put a baby in me.” you couldn’t help grinning at how those words sounded coming out of your mouth, kind of ridiculous but kind of...erotic?
Apparently Kylo found it very bloody erotic. He was buck naked in seconds and crawling over you, caging you beneath him, his rock hard cock prodding your stomach.
You arched your back as he dragged his nose down into the valley between your breasts, burying his face in between them with a soft moan. He unclasped your bra, tossing it off the bed while he admired your breasts, as they sat naturally.
“Perfect tits.” he murmured, tweaking a nipple, you gasped- then whimpered as he quickly soothed the sting with his mouth.
Gripping behind your knees, Kylo pushed your legs up and out beside your torso. He kept his hands there, spreading you wide, running his mouth over the lace of your thong as you desperately tried to thrust.
“These panties are very damp Kitten.” He breathed, finally letting go of your legs. “Hold your legs up for me.” You replaced his hands with your own.
He tugged the flimsy fabric aside and pressed a kiss on your clit.
“Fuck.” You hissed.
He pushed one finger, then another into your sopping cunt, scissoring them slightly to stretch you out.
Keeping his fingers inside you, working you into a fit of whines and whimpers, Kylo scaled your body, seeking your mouth with his own. Hot and heavy kisses as his fingers continued pumping, your hand wrapped around his hard length.
He removed his fingers and positioned you on your side so you were leaning into your elbow. He straddled your bottom leg and pulled the thong aside, pushing into your warmth with a grunt and he settled behind you. You twisted back so your mouths could meet again as his hand found your breast.
It wasn’t fevered fucking, it was passionate and luxurious love making. His hand roaming your body, tracing your curves. His mouth kissed you, peppered kisses down your neck and over your shoulder.
“My wife.” He murmured in your ear, on more than one occasion.
You whimpered and moaned, the position meant he could get deep inside you, hit your g spot relentlessly as he thrust his hips.
You came with a cry as his fingers expertly worked your clit, he followed soon after as your whispered sweet sentiments in his ear.
The second he pulled out, he was elevating your hips, shoving pillows under your butt.
“Ahh...what the fuck are you doing?” you asked with a raised eyebrow.
“Keeping my cum in you.” he replied, like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
You barked out a laugh, but he was deadly serious, “stay there and i’ll run the bath.”
You watched with an amused smile, from your ridiculous position as he grabbed the champagne and glasses and disappeared into the bathroom.
-
As Kylo led you into the bathroom you gasped, there were candles on every surface and a small table next to the large bath held a bunch of roses, the champagne, strawberries and a gift bag.
“Did you organise all this…” you looked at Kylo in wonder.
He just nodded silently, studying your face as if to gauge your reaction.
“This is beautiful, thank you.” you said softly, pressing a kiss on his lips.
He began to undress you, pulling off the remainder of your lingerie before helping you into the large tub.
“Oh my god this is heavenly!” you groaned, sinking into the hot water. Your aching feet from a day in heels soothed.
Kylo pulled you into him and you rested your head back against his chest with a happy sigh.
He reached and pulled a red box from the bag next to the bath.
“Kitten, for you.” he smiled, as you hurriedly dried your hands and took the box.
“Kylo! Jesus Christ!” you breathed, recognising the unmistakable design of the jewellery box as that of Cartier.
You opened it slowly, revealing a beautiful gold necklace. The round pendant was inlaid with what was surely diamonds. You gaped at it, silently.
“Is it ok?” Kylo sounded slightly worried.
You handed it to him blindly, “can you put it on me please, baby?” your voice wobbling.
You traced the circle gently as he fastened it, before turning around completely, “what do you think?” you asked.
“Perfect.” he smiled adoringly.
“I love it, but i didn’t get you anything! I feel-!” you fretted.
“Y/n, you married me. That’s enough for me, forever.”
“If you could stop making me cry that would be really great.” you sniffed, wiping your eyes, “I’m dehydrated from all this crying.”
He grinned, pulling you into his lap and handing you a glass on bubbles.
“Drink this and stop blubbering, silly Kitten.” he teased.
You flicked water at him.
-
You ate room service in fluffy robes at 2 in the morning, before collapsing into the bed, exhausted from the day.
You snuggled into the warmth of his body, right when you were drifting off Kylo began thinking aloud.
“We need to get you on prenatal vitamins babe, and i’ll find ask the board who the best OBGYN is, we should really get you in there as soon-”
“Baby, i love you, but please shut up and go to sleep.” you mumbled, sleepily.

Catch Me If You Can - Nishinoya Yuu
AU: Penpal / Travel
Warning: Manga Spoilers
Word Count: 7.6k+
How could he not have fallen in love with (Y/N) back then? The foreign transfer student that regaled stories of her adventures around the world with swinging arm movements and an indistinguishable accent that had been muddled over years of travel. She was a sun among stars. A linguistic animal lover that had a passion for learning and adventure. No one could resist her charm, not for long. She was expressive, loud and boisterous. But when given the chance, the outgoing girl will always sit quietly and listen with a kind smile on her face. How could anyone not want to know her?
It was nearing the end of March in 2014 when they last saw each other. Despite it being the beginning of spring, the sun was shooting down warm golden rays of light that (Y/N) happily bathed in. Nishinoya sat next to the excitable girl, looking at the various pins she had stuck into her worn down and faded hat, tired after years of travelling and use. It was spunky, out there, it suited her quite well. In her hand, she fiddled with a keychain that he had just given her moments prior. A small enamel volleyball that he had a duplicate of.
“I’m going to travel the world,” she said, leaning back against the stairs of the gym.
The graduation ceremony was long. Despite that, the volleyball team had gathered in their gym to send off the 3rd years, announcing Yamaguchi as the new captain, and making everyone cry. The 1st years were the worst, only getting to spend one year with their beloved elders.
Nishinoya smiled, stretching his legs along the steps to lay down beside her. “Where are you going to go first?”
She hummed, “I think I’ll go to Australia, I want the accent back.”
Nishinoya laughed and watched as the traveller held up the chain to her nose.
“I want to meet as many people as I can, get some new experiences,” she sighed before shooting up from her spot, nearly launching herself on top of Nishinoya’s relaxed position. Her eyes seemed to be twinkling as they looked into his, “I’m going to write you letters.”
How could he say no to that smile?
For three years they sent letters back and forth. Occasionally sending a care package, typically coming from (Y/N), who always seemed to have money to spare for the best quality of shipping. Nishinoya was always eager to open her letters. The words on the page would dance in his mind, creating beautiful images of the girl he remembered as she continued her travels. He would feel his heart squeeze with every package, carrying various treats and pictures for him to enjoy. Nishinoya always wanted to travel despite never having the funds to do so. Because of this, he lived vicariously through his long time crush’s adventures, holding every gift he received close to his heart.
He saved every last picture, letter, and gift. Yearning for when he would find the next one sitting snugly in the mailbox of his family home in Miyagi. 3 years since the day they graduated they had been exchanging letters, and 4 months since he last heard from his (Y/N), who had suddenly stopped. 4 months he waited.
Nishinoya waited desperately for her next reply, but it never came. Leaving him anxious for months as his family tried to calm him down. Nothing worked. Nishinoya spent most of his free time walled up in his room, ducked under the covers of his childhood bed, waiting.
It wasn’t until his grandfather, Mineo, knocked on his door that something happened.
It was the 2nd of July 2017 at 3:28pm.
“Eh, Yuu, there’s something in the mail for ya,” the old man teased, throwing a thumb over his shoulder.
Running out of his room, nearly knocking over his laughing elderly grandfather, the youngest Nishinoya ran out of his house, through the gates and to the mailbox. From the corner of his eye, he could see the mailman down the street. Inside the box was a neatly packaged envelope. He pulled it out gently, trying his best not to fold or mark the clean paper.
Once at the dinner table, family surrounding all sides, excitedly waiting for the boy to open the letter, Nishinoya let out a deep breath. His heart was pounding, gripping onto his ribcage like a prisoner wanting to escape. His hands shook, making the paper let out a desperate fluttering sound. He read the front of the paper.
The letter was sent from Australia. Particularly a city named Mutitjulu, which he didn’t bother to try and pronounce as even in his head, the English word seemed to only be a muffle of sounds. English wasn’t something he was good at anyway. He continued, staring at his name that was scripted on the front in a familiar style. One that he’s been reading for years.
“Well, what are you waiting for Yuu? Open it,” his mother pressured. She was excited too, tired of her son’s heaving and hawing over the past four months.
Taking in another wavering breath, Yuu opened the envelope gently and pulled out the crisp piece of paper. As he opened it, a wad of cash fell out, sprawling across the table his family sat at.
His grandfather laughed, “What is this? Some sort of ransom?”
“You’re not given money when you get a ransom note, let Yuu read the letter first,” His father chuckled as he watched his wife gather the money in a neat stack also grabbing the stiff paper ticket that had landed before her.
The first thing on the page was the date, followed by (Y/N)’s handwriting.
14 August 2014
Dear Yuu,
Australia feels like a home I wasn’t born into. It’s hot and my hair hate’s the humidity, but it’s a beautiful country. The accent makes it all worth it. While writing this, I sit at the bottom of one of Australia’s many sites, Uluru, a giant rock that would make you look like a worm in comparison. There are flies everywhere, and we’re painting stones in dotted patterns. I painted a lizard.
I’ve spent the last week in the outback with a group of born Australian’s working with Kangaroos. They are the funniest creatures, easily aggravated in the wild, but these ones have become used to humans over the years.
A man named Joshua has become my companion for the week. He’s taught me a lot, I can’t say it all in a singular letter, but here’s a funny story. One kangaroo, lovingly named Swipe, stole his hat on a particularly hot day, hiding it somewhere we never found. I had to give him my hat. When you see him, please, ask for it back, I miss it and will have more pins to add later.
Oh right, the money and the ticket. Well, I’m sorry for not telling you sooner, but I wanted it to be a surprise. By the time you get this letter, it should be about mid-summer of 2017. You know how you’ve always wanted to travel the world? Well, I’m picking out your stops. You won’t be able to contact me, that eliminates the fun out of it. But, that’s your mission.
Come and catch me~
Love,
(Y/N)
Nishinoya had to give it to her, Kangaroos were soft. And even in the heat of the Australian winter, he desperately wanted to snuggle up to them and bury his head into their chests. He had jokingly told Joshua that he wanted to be a joey in his next life, to which the Australian born man laughed and slapped his back.
It seemed as though, despite (Y/N)’s appearance in Mutitjulu having been 3 years prior to his arrival, that she had planned out his whole trip. Getting Joshua to walk him through every landmark and location in Australia that she had visited on her solo trip.
He was a tall man, tanned to a golden ochre colour from his days working under the blistering sun, and you could tell he did hard physical labour from his well built physique. Nishinoya would stare at him occasionally, mostly jealous of his overwhelming height.
The two men were visiting the Sydney Zoo, watching a gigantic alligator eat a whole chicken when Nishinoya asked the older man a question in broken English. He still needed practice.
“Did you help plan everything?” he asked referring to his tour around the continent.
The Aussie shook his head, making his messed up sandy coloured hair bounce. Turning away from the reptilian show, the tanned man looked at Nishinoya with a large smile.
“She did it all herself. Every last detail. You wouldn’t believe it when she told me her plan, she was going to burst!”
Leaving their suitcases at various hotels over the 3 month period and grabbing the bare minimum so they could trek through the day felt new to Nishinoya. He had spent his whole life in one location, only ever needing to carry around a bag or two wherever he went. Joshua carried around a leather satchel everywhere. At every location they stopped at he would reach into it and pull out a photo that (Y/N) had taken while there, handing over to Nishinoya.
“Keep it, I’ve made copies,” he said when Nishinoya tried to give them back.
Noya bought a photo album after that, carefully storing the photos in the slots that were available. He would flip through the pages until late when the birds started singing. The late nights staring at your photos led to beautiful dreams of hiking through forests and petting koalas together, holding hands and watching the sunset. He wanted that. Minus the gigantic spiders.
It was at the end of September when Joshua barged into Nishinoya’s room early in the morning and threw something at him.
“Oi! Get up, get packed. You got more than just a plane to catch.”
Noya, still tired from a long night of drinking — likely being Joshua’s way of sending him off — groggily grabbed at whatever had been bounced off his head. He rubbed his eyes, waiting for them to adjust to the light that Joshua had so graciously invited in beyond the curtains.
Groaning, Yuu turned his attention away from the bright sun and onto what laid in his hand. A familiar hat, worn out and covered with pins, it’s original colour faded into a dull grey. Next to it, a letter. His spine shot into a straight position as his fingers gently separated the lip of the envelope from its body as quickly as possible. Just like the one before, money, plane ticket and a letter. A noise in the corner of the room caught his attention, Joshua was stuffing Noya’s clothes haphazardly into his suitcases, throwing a change of clothes to the side for him to wear.
“Get changed Cobber, we got to go!”
Joshua steered the tourist onto his plane, not letting Noya take a detailed look at the ticket. At the gate to the airport, Nishinoya was pulled into a strong hug by the Aussie, who rambled into the shorter man’s ear about how he would miss his foreign wisdom and poorly constructed sentences (which had improved over the months).
Before he knew it, Nishinoya was on a plane, reading the note you had sent back for him.
21 February 2015
Dear Yuu,
You like dogs, right? Well, I sure hope you do. I’ve spent the last few weeks in Yukon, Canada (specifically Whitehorse) and HOLY! It is freezing up here in the wintertime. Luckily the group I’ve been working with provides the proper gear you need but still, it’s frigid. So be ready for that. Margaret will help you out. That’s not actually her name, but she says her real name is too hard for us to pronounce.
Anyway, dog sledding. You haven’t lived until you’ve tried it. It’s such a freeing feeling. Oh, and I might have given one of them the keychain you gave me. I’m sorry, but he was so sweet and I wanted to give him something of mine. His name is Mateus. Be sure to give him pets for me!
Make sure to spend that money well~
Love you,
(Y/N)
Although October wasn’t technically winter, the northern hemisphere was cold, too cold. Bundled up in thick layers, covered from head to toe, Nishinoya laid back in the tall snow, rubbing the bellies of eager huskies that rolled around next to him. Yuu laughed and one jumped at him, pushing his shoulder back into the snow and licking any visible skin he could reach.
“Ya! Mateus, please!” The dog backed off, sitting in the man’s lap, panting happily.
Nishinoya sat up, petting the friendly dog’s head with his thick glove. His other hand moved the collar so he could admire the given jewelry. The metal had oxidized, making it look brown and blue. The volleyball has definitely looked better but Nishinoya wouldn’t complain. The dog whimpered at his new human friend as he played with the chain.
Noya looked the husky in the eyes, “Awe, I miss her too bud.”
The dog whined again and pushed his head up against Noya’s hand. He obliged to the canines request, rubbing the space behind his ears. The dog lolled his head to the side, then let his body completely fall over Noya’s lap. The other’s came closer, joining the lazy dog puddle that made itself home around their new companion.
“If you keep letting them do that they’ll never let you leave.”
Margaret was a kind woman, older and a bit worn after years of working. She was ruff around the edges but as soon as she got a good look at Noya’s photo album (which now also held (Y/N)’s letters) she swept the young man into a bone-crushing hug, telling him about the memories she had from years prior. Noya listened to every story earnestly.
“She’s a natural,” she said. “Hopped onto the sled, grabbed the reins and off she went! Over the hills through the trees and the wolves listened to her every command.”
Margaret’s movements were a shadow of the girl he remembered. Large and unapologetic. He took a sip from his hot chocolate as he watched the woman’s arms wing in fluid motions. The fire that was lit next to them cast a shadow behind her, like a puppet. Other volunteers around the lodge watched in awe as she continued telling her of (Y/N). Just how did she manage to make everyone fall in love with her, would there be any room in her heart for him? Everywhere she went she seemed to take someone with her and Yuu couldn’t help but think he’d be left out. It nagged at him.
On the last day of his stay in Whitehorse, Margaret sat down next to Nishinoya and handed him a neatly wrapped pile.
“You know, I sometimes wondered why (Y/N) asked me to make duplicates of her photos. But after spending these past couple of months with you, I can understand it. You’ve got yourself a keeper.”
At the bottom of the pile of photos was the letter, sent back to Margaret from his next location. The woman patted his shoulder.
“You better pack up soon, I’ll drive you to the airport.”
3 September 2015
Dear Yuu,
I know the cold must have been ruff. Haha, get it? Ruff? Well, don’t worry, cause where you’re going next it’s all summer and sun (with the occasional thunderstorm but a little rain never hurt anybody).
The Florida keys are hot. I’ve been spending a lot of time either at the beach or indoors where it’s airconditioned, but It’s been a lot of fun relaxing in the sun here. I found a restaurant, tucked in behind the white fences of a narrow road just by the waterfront. It has a large sign saying “CASTAWAY” I think it’s fitting with the whole nautical theme. It has high ceilings and gives off a wood cabin by the lake sort of feel. All the workers are nice, I’m writing this while talking with them.
I recommend the honeybuns!
Love,
(Y/N)
The honey buns were delicious. They weren’t even something you had to order, but Nishinoya did anyway, every single time. Joe, the owner, along with his wife busted the bar table that Nishinoya sat at. He was the only one in there at the moment flipping through his photo album, adjusting all the photos in place, making them look orderly. Without looking, he reached for one of the many bread buns that sat in the woven basket next to him.
“You know Noya, there’s more food other than the honey buns,” Joe chuckled as he snatched the bun filled basket out of the grasp of Noya’s clingy hands, making said boy pout. Joe laughed again before slipping a laminated piece of paper his way, “Read the menu kid, you might find something worthwhile.”
Joe, despite his outward appearance being that of a beer drinking food lover (which he was), was an avid deep sea diver. Often going with Miranda to collect underwater treasures that could be used as decor for their restaurant.
Nishinoya nodded, thanking the kind man as he began to read. The words gave him a bit of a headache. English, definitely something he’s improved on since beginning his journey but still makes him run circles in his head. He rested his chin on the counter, squinting, hoping the change in sight would magically turn the English into Japanese. It did not, and after 5 minutes of continuous grumbling, Miranda came his way.
“Noya, sweetheart, take a look at the drinks would ya?” she laughed, towel and plate in one hand, flicking the back of the page with a long spindly finger from the other.
He flipped the page over.
The (Y/N) Special
“What is this?” he asked pointing to the only spot on the page that had kanji characters mixed in with the English alphabet.
Miranda smiled, leaning her elbows onto the counter. Flicking a chummy finger toward the page she explained, “That right there, is a drink (Y/N) made up on one of the nights she was here. She jumped over the counter and made us all one, then gave us the recipe for later.”
Joe came their way with a cheeky smile, “Give it a go. It’s got a bit of alcohol in it but not a lot, fine for a midday drink.”
Yuu gladly took the drink created and named after his beloved adventurer and gave it a big gulp. It was cold and sweet with a bit of lemon, perfect for the everlasting hot weather in Florida. He could imagine lounging at the beach or by a pool with (Y/N) sleeping peacefully by his side as he drank this, both of them soaking in the sun’s warmth. Noya sighed happily, resting his head in the palm of his hand.
“Hang in there kid. I don’t think there’s that much alcohol,” Joe teased as he flicked Nishinoya’s forehead. “Don’t go dozing off just yet, we’ve got your next letter.”
Noya didn’t even realize that Miranda had left, only just seeing her as she came back out from the restaurant’s back with a box in hand.
The pictures were of her in various places, just like all the others. Now mostly at the beach or at his current location. He didn’t hold himself back from admiring the images of your summer glow as you posed happily for the camera in your bathing suit. One image of your face stuffed with honey buns make him cackle outright. At the bottom of the box was a small corral and your note.

Dear Yuu,
Oh YUU~ please don’t be mad at me! I know you probably wanted to see me first out of all our friends but I couldn’t help myself. Brazil was already on my list and where else would I go besides Rio de Janeiro?
Hinata has grown so much since high school, you’ve got to see him play. You should be proud of your Kohai, he’s gotten pretty amazing~ His roommate, Pedro, was really nice too he likes OnePiece and Spiral Knights. Reminds me of Kenma a bit. They were both kind enough to accommodate me for my stay. Oh, Oikawa showed up too.
Be sure to give Hinata a hug for me~
Love (Oh so very much),
(Y/N)
Had they still been in high school, Hinata would’ve probably blabbered about everything upon Nishinoya’s arrival. But, as you had said, Hinata had grown and thus, he learned some restraint. Managing to respect the wishes of his travelling upperclassman who insisted that he kept a tight lip about everything until Noya had begun his travels in Rio.
Noya, on the other hand, was rather discouraged that his past teammate had gotten to spend months with his girl. His girl? His girl. He grumbled, crossing his arms with a haughty huff.
Nishinoya had arrived in Rio in February of 2018, getting the chance to hear all of Hinata’s stories from the beginning of his appearance in the hot city. Heitor, Hinata’s teammate for a tournament they played a couple of months prior, listened carefully to Hinata’s ramblings as he switched back and forth between languages, translating as much as he could. Nishinoya also often found himself admiring Heitor’s coiling hair. A complete opposite texture from his own. (Y/N)’s appearance seemed to be news to Brazilian man as well, but both listened with rapt attention as the carrot head rambled.
Noya got really pouty when his friend showed him the pictures though, mostly fixating on the one that had Oikawa, Hinata, and (Y/N) all making strange faces at the camera.
“Shoyo, must you torture me like this?”
Hinata only responded with a large smile and wiggling dance.
Heitor and Pedro had become Nishinoya’s closest companions after Hinata left for Japan. Nice, Heitor’s newlywed wife, reminded him of Saeko, making her his go-to whenever he needed to rant to someone. She never understood a word he said, but would always give him a pat on the back and a warm smile. Luckily, Pedro had managed to pick up some Japanese during his time living with Hinata, making the learning curve of figuring out Portuguese a little easier.
At the near 3 month mark of his stay in Rio, Pedro came out of his room with a box that had Nishinoya’s name printed across it. “It. Yours,” he tried to say with heavily accented Japanese, which the streaked blonde man was thankful for.
The name across the top had obviously been done by Hinata, the messy script made it that evident, not that Noya could easily read it anyways. Just like the others, the box held a few remaining photos that Hinata didn’t give him during their time together and her letter. The envelope had a small crease in the top corner, likely from Hinata’s rough handling, but he was eager to read it despite its mediocre condition.
Pedro sat down next to Nishinoya, taking hold of the photo album, and offered to put them in order. Before he did though, he took his time flipping through the pages, listening to Nishinoya as he tried to explain what was happening in each photograph. Pedro smiled.
“I spoke to her quite often, she learned Portuguese rather quickly, I was surprised,” he paused for a moment, watching the memory that played in his mind from the photo he had taken of you and Hinata playing volleyball on the beach. “She is quite an amazing person.”
Despite not being able to fully understand what Pedro had said, Nishinoya could hear his feelings.
Why did she have to be so magnetic that even a near stranger felt her gravitational pull?
With an almost sad sigh, he gave Pedro a nudge and began to read the letter. It was filled with glitter. That was new.
31 December 2016
Dear Yuu,
HAPPY NEW YEAR! I might be a bit tipsy but that’s okay! I’ll write this anyway.
New years in France is filled with alcohol. I shouldn’t be surprised but the wine is surprisingly sweet? And you know me, I can’t restrain myself when it comes to sweets.
Paris is beautiful by the way. I can’t wait for you to see it. Danon has been an amazing tour guild. He even gives me a discount on the coffee from his family’s café. Despite being in the more expensive part of town the café is rather quaint. When his parents are out Donon lets me choose the music, it’s typically 70’s dance and pop music, like ABBA. Who am I kidding, It’s mostly ABBA. Sometimes other customers join me in dancing, Danon can’t because he works but I see him grooving behind the counter. I think I made it a tradition.
Ooh, I also made another friend, her name’s Brielle, she's just lovely.
It’s beautiful here Yuu~
Love you loads.
(Y/N)
Was Nishinoya jealous when he met Danon? HELL YES HE WAS. The man was their age, and undeniably handsome, clean quaffed brown hair and perfect skin. Nishinoya spent his first few days in Paris giving the other man the side-eye.
That’s how it was, until one Friday evening, when Nishinoya walked into the café he was stopped frozen at the door.
“Ah Noya, my friend! Come join us!” Danon called over the music once he saw the shorter man enter.
In the Frenchman’s arms twirled a beautiful young woman with dark skin and braided hair that swung at the middle of her back. ABBA was playing, Noya noticed as he entered, weaving through the dancing couples of men and women alike. Danon and the woman met him halfway, and Danon, being the gentleman he is, bowed slightly as he gestured to her.
“This is Brielle. I’m sure (Y/N) must have mentioned her in her letter.”
Brielle laughed, waving her hand dismissively, “The two of us only got a moment together, a week at most. But she did talk about you Nishinoya. It's a pleasure to meet you.”
They spoke in English, with French accents, but Noya was thankful for the familiarity, although it did make him notice his own mangled accent even more.
“So what’s happening here?”
Danon laughed, “It’s (Y/N)’s night! What else?!”
The day slowly turned to night and the Eiffel tower began to glow outside the window. Nishinoya tried his best to dance in the sensual duets that took place in the middle of the floor, but more often than not, he went behind the counter, taking Danon’s parent’s place and giving them a chance to take centre stage. Out of the pairs, his parents were the most infectious. But anyone could look Danon’s way and see that he and Brielle were a match made for the night lights of Paris.
Towards the end of May, Nishinoya sat at one of the tables next to the chalk wall, sipping slowly at his tea. Danon came out from the back, giving his mother a rub on the shoulder before sitting across from the Japanese tourist. He placed a clean stack of images on the table between them. Before pointing to the chalk wall with a melancholic smile.
“She wrote you a message up there, ‘see you soon’, she said that a lot about you,” the taller man slid over the stack.
Noya slowly flipped through the photos, pausing at one that captured a moment of Danon holding (Y/N) in his arms as they danced, being perfectly framed by the Eiffel tower behind them. Noya gripped the photo a little tighter. His heart clawed at his insides again. That nagging feeling was back, making the palms of his hands feel sore and warm. Danon’s voice pulled him out of it easily, the man was a siren.
“She is a remarkable woman. If I had the same opportunity that you have right now,” he trailed off, pausing to take a breath, “I would follow her off the edge of the world if she asked me,” Danon took the photo out of Noya’s hands, giving it a fleeting look before tucking it into the album that rested open on the table.
Gulping, Noya met the man’s eyes across the table.
“Aren’t you with Brielle?”
Danon smiled, “I am. (Y/N) introduced us. Brielle knows of my infatuation but trusts me and I can’t thank her more for it.”
“You two are beautiful together,” Noya said, looking up at your name on the wall. He took another long, slow sip of his tea.
“As will the both of you. If you manage to catch her that is.” Danon spoke softly, joining his new friend in staring at their crush’s smooth writing on the wall. “Can you do me a favour, Noya?”
Nishinoya hummed, continuing to look up.
“Love her for the both of us, okay?”
8 May 2017
Dear Yuu,
A kind old man was nice enough to let me spend most of my time with him and his dog at their home in Hamburg, Germany. He’s a potato farmer! But sadly he injured his back working, what a spine breaker. Anyway, I offered my help farming in exchange for a warm bed and food. He was happy to help! Oh right, his name is Adal. He’s a bit of a grouch but I know he’s secretly a softy.
I managed to get to a few places around Germany before settling down there for the rest of the trip though. My favourite by far is the torn down Berlin wall. It’s covered in graffiti and art and it’s just filled with so much history. It’s overwhelming but seeing the broken wall is just such a beautiful sight. I don’t even think I can put it into words.
Don’t let Adal be too mean to you~
Love,
(Y/N)
Nishinoya knew what you meant by the wall being overwhelming. It felt like he had the memories of generations pushing down on his shoulders all while a swell of happiness and relief seemed to lift his chest upwards. It was a sight to behold.
Adelina was a kind but blunt woman in her 40’s. Their initial interaction was a shocking one that left a bitter taste in both of their mouths. Noya, a stranger that had shown up at Adal’s doorstep that was in the middle of vast farmland was greeted with a less than welcoming hello.
“Is Adal here?”
In broken English, Adelina responded, “Adal is dead. What do you want?”
After explaining his now new predicament to the resilient woman, she had broken into a gasp eyes wide as she rushed up the stairs of the house. She nearly tripped coming back down, holding a box that was covered in dust and set it down on the wood table in the middle of the large room visible from the door.
She had sighed while she blew off the dirt, “You must be Nishinoya, correct?”
Taking his shoes off at the door, he entered the premises. Adelina had gestured for him to take a seat in the chair across from her and the box. Nishinoya was understandably nervous at the time, desperately wanting to bite his nail or crack his cold knuckles, but he resisted.
“Adal was my father, he died last year and left everything to me,” she started. “I only met (Y/N) once but she was a kind woman from what I remember. Managed to break that old man’s shell. Not many can do that,” she laughed, tucking a greying piece of hair behind her ear.
Nishinoya listened to every word patiently. Adelina wasn’t a great storyteller, she often had to cycle back, remembering events that would have been told earlier on, and sounded rather monotone as she recounted them. For what it was worth though, once she got on the right track, she seemed to be able to recall every detail word for word despite the stories not having been from her own experiences.
“I know the plan was for you to work in the field, but I sold off the farmland not too long after he died,” she said, placing a glass of water for him on the table. “If I had thought a little further ahead, I probably would have waited until after your visit,” she scoffed sadly at herself. “I guess my mind was a bit preoccupied.”
“No, no. It’s alright. I’m the one showing up unannounced. You probably didn’t even remember the plan until I showed up.”
That night, Adeline offered to take Nishinoya on a grand tour through Germany.
“I should at least fulfill some duty that I was given, he would want me to,” she said, giving him a rare smile. “Diese Dinge passieren, und das Leben geht weiter.”
Despite having given him most of the pictures in the box on the first night, the letter remained untouched until after spending three months in the woman’s care. At the airport, Adeline thanked Noya for visiting and wished him well.
“Chase your dreams,” she said, sending him off with a final wave.
1 September 2017
Dear Yuu,
Somehow a little town at Italy’s ankle has made me believe that gods exist on earth. Okay, that might be a bit of an exaggeration, but these architects did an amazing job. The buildings are all colourful and beautiful to admire. Especially during the sunset. The whole town is cast with a warm glow.
I’ve been staying in Sorrento, (imagine if I was writing this from Torino! Haha). A small town by the bay known for its beautiful view of the water and 14th-Century architecture, very picturesque. I spend most of my time down by the bay, I’ve gone so often that I’ve even made friends with some of the fishermen. They even offered to take me spearfishing out in the bay. Their boats are beautiful but on windy days I definitely prefer the land.
Don’t let the marlins get to close, they’ll stab you~
Love you,
(Y/N)
“Eh, Noya! You did great! Let me take a photo for you.”
Donte was a middle-aged man that owned a boat by the pier. Often spending his weekends fishing for marlins to feed his family the following week. His hair was dark brown and mousy, slowly fading to grey at the sides of his hairline that trailed down his jaw into a patchy scruff of a beard that never seemed to grow. Quickly, the ageing man grabbed Noya’s phone off one of the seats in his large fishing boat and angled it to face the other man.
“Say: sorridi!” he cheered.
Noya dropped his borrowed trident like a spear on the tiled concrete and kicked up his left leg onto the large metal cleat at his side and balanced the weight of the large marlin between his arms. The fish’s mouth hung open, but Noya smiled into the camera of his phone, yelling out ‘sorridi’ as the photo was taken.
“Ah good. C’mon, I’ll treat you to lunch.”
It was during lunch when Donte began to entertain Nishinoya with some stories of (Y/N)’s visit. The big one was how we decided on the name of his boat. He explained that at the time, his ship was brand new when she visited, with (Y/N) being the first to book a time to experience marlin fishing on the new vessel. At the time the name hadn’t been printed on the side, and when Donte had mistakenly tripped over a loose line it sent him into the cold water of the bay. Despite being able to swim, the visiting woman had immediately pulled out the rope ladder tying to the side of the ship and dived him.
Donte laughed as he recalled floating in the water with (Y/N) staring at him with an irritated expression. “I can swim you know?” he said, making her grumble and paddle to the ladder she had set up moments prior.
“The water is nice, but you better get out soon,” she had teased. “Don’t want the marlins to attack.”
“Thought that ‘the Mad Mer’ was fitting. She did look like a goddess while swimming after all.”
The description made Noya smile happily.
Donte was starting his next story when Nishinoya felt his phone vibrate in his pocket.
Asahi had sent him a message.
We’re all meeting up today.
Are you coming?
A cheeky grin pulled on the corner of Noya’s face. Swiping his phone across his screen and clicking, without sending a word to his friend the image was sent.
Woah, Noya!
Are you still following those letters?
Nishinoya chuckled.
You bet!
Donte nodded his head in Noya’s direction and took a large gulp of water and a bit of food from his plate. “Who you talking to?”
“Ah, an old friend. Sent him the picture of the marlin.”
On his final day, after packing up all his clothes, Nishinoya flipped through the new photos he collected. His favourite had been taken on the same day that she had dived into the water to help Donte. It was of (Y/N) in a flowing white dress, arms spread wide open, with the sun setting in the background making her dress glow. This photo closed out the passage of Sorrento, Italy.
30 March 2018
Dear Yuu,
Hazyview is quite the sight. It’s full of green trees and large expanses of grass. Rolling hills turn into mountains with sharp cliffs and rounded tops. It’s a sight you’ve never seen before.
I got to travel around a bit before settling in Hazyview so I could learn about all the languages they speak. It’s so interesting! I swear some of the people I met probably thought I was some foreign nut job, but I had fun
Working at a sanctuary for elephants is such a rewarding experience. I wish I could have stayed a bit longer to help. Luckily they primarily used English to communicate because of all the immigrating volunteers they get, but even the diverse collection of language there was amazing. But that’s not the point. Elephants. Elephants are the point.
We managed to save a baby and his mother from poachers! The little guy was rather clingy, and I got to name him!
Work your hardest~
Love,
(Y/N)
Nishinoya was relieved when he was able to practice his English again with fluent English speakers at the sanctuary. Nearly two years of practice has shown some improvement.
Jabulani was the man that greeted him when the helicopter landed at the sanctuary. His arms were wide open and his smile was big, showing off his pearly white teeth.
“Welcome!” he yelled over the sound of the helicopter’s blades spinning.
It took a couple of days for Nishinoya to get the chance to interact with the large beasts. That time was spent settling in, getting a tour, and learning about the protocol that was held in high regard at the sanctuary (for good reason).
When Jabulani, nicknamed Jabu, introduced Noya to the various elephants that were being rehabilitated he was brought to a pause at one.
“His name is Shino?”
“Ah yes. You’re (Y/N)’s friend. I almost forgot. She talked about you a lot.”
Noya made a large gesture with his arms, throwing them in the warm air. Then he adjusted the old button filled hat on his head to block the sun.
“When (Y/N) said she named a baby Elephant I thought I was going to be small! She named it after me, and he’s that big?!”
Jabu laughed at Noya’s pain. Giving a hard smack on the back. Earning a groan from the slightly saddened man.
“Don’t look at it like that. Think of it this way,” He said as he grabbed Noya’s shoulder, straightening his back. He gestured to the elephant’s trunk that started sprinkling water over its head. “She must think highly of you. Think you can reach great heights like the trunk of an elephant.”
“That height is mediocre when giraffes exist.”
The throwaway comment earned Noya another hard smack.
“Don’t say that around the elephants. They’re sensitive creatures.”
Occasionally, at night when everyone was lounging around the common area, eating food and relaxing, Nishinoya got the chance to listen to Juba and his friends speak in their native tongue. Zulu was something he had never heard prior to coming here, and as he listened to them converse fluidly without tripping over any syllable or sound he couldn’t help but realize why you appreciated the complexities of language so much.
The last letter was short, and when he opened it a picture slipped out. You wore Karasuno’s classic colour; black. You were in a waving salute, your two fingers in the motion of pointing away from your forehead. The back of the black tracksuit was visible thanks to your slightly turned position. You stood on the steps of the volleyball gym, the doors were open. The letter was sent back to Hazyview recently.
9 April 2019
Dear Yuu,
What do you think? The newest job suits me, huh? I managed to race through school while I waited. World Cultures, I’m excited.
See you on the first day of school~
Love,
(Y/N)
April 20th of 2019 was the first day of school. Nishinoya had flown in from Hazyview the night before, greeted by his parents who pestered him about all of his adventures on the way home. Still wide awake with jitters of excitement, Noya rambled about every moment and story, flipping through his nearly complete photo album.
He was wide awake until he wasn’t. Despite his eagerness to wake up early to the following day and hopefully ambush you in the morning before classes started, he managed to sleep through most of the day. When he finally did wake up he was groggy from the jet lag but forced himself to change into something more presentable than plane clothes. Be grabbed your old hat, oxidized keychain and his photo album before rushing out.
Once he got to the front gates he breathed in deeply. It had been years, and the nagging feeling had returned to his chest. Students gave him weird looks as they left the school grounds.
How could he not have fallen in love with you back then? But how could he be so naive to believe he was the only one? He thought of Danon in that moment, letting the words replay in his head. Over and over again. For the both of us.
Taking one last breath, he ran towards the old gym he remembered. The doors were slightly ajar and the welcoming sound of air-filled balls bouncing off the wooden gym floor made his heart race. He screamed as he kicked the doors wide open.
“(Y/N)!”
A high pitch screech followed.
“Noya? What the hell are you doing here?”
Despite the change in hair, now back to his natural black, Ukai hadn’t changed a bit. The squealer, Takeda, held his chest tightly as he stood straight, recovering from the sudden scare. The players on the gym floor began to murmur, they’d ask their coaches questions later.
“Sorry, Takeda, Ukai. Do you know where (Y/N) is?” Noya asked, gripping his belongings tightly. “I thought she was going to be in here.”
Takeda let out a shaky laugh, “You haven’t changed a bit, Noya. But did you maybe consider she’d be in the girl’s gym?”
Ukai sent Takeda a confused look, to which the bespectacled man waved off as if saying ‘I’ll explain later.’
Nishinoya began bouncing on his toes, ready to move. Wearing a smile, he yelled a loud ‘thanks!’ as he bowed, before running out the double doors.
The girl’s gym, though not one he visited in his past often except for those moments he went to see (Y/N), brought a familiar feeling. The sound of balls ricocheting off of solid surfaces greeted him as he stood outside the double doors, waiting, scared.
Then he heard your voice, heavily accented but pronouncing every word with a sense of style with accuracy. Soothing and sharp with a bit of a raspy bite from years of hysterical laughter and yelling.
“Tiny Hinata! Natsu, can you do me a favour real quick?”
Slowly, he pushed the doors open.
Nishinoya didn’t even see the young orange-haired girl lift the old polaroid camera to her face. He was too busy enjoying the old familiar feeling of his girl’s hands holding his back, hardly even hearing the smack of objects fall from his hands and onto the floor. He melted. Noses brushed against each other as she pulled him into a kiss that was worth the years of patient pining. He let out a breathless laugh when she pulled away, letting his head fall back for a moment as she used her hands to lift him back into an upright position. His hand came to rest on her shoulders, massaging them gently to fully know that she was there.
That nagging feeling finally crawled away, chased out by an eruption of warmth in his stomach.
“I finally caught you, (Y/N),” he said, wearing a dopey grin.
“Took you long enough,” she teased, hitting his arm.
Picking up his belongings that he had dropped suddenly, he held the brim of her old hat between his fingers and slipped it onto her head. Back where it belonged.
The photo was a pretty one, fitting perfectly into the last page of his album.
So this onshot comes from a prompt in my writers notebook that I’ve been wanting to write for over a year. And when talking to one of my firends we got really into multiple different idea’s and then dragged Kiwi into it. So this one is sort of collaborated.
I hope you liked it! it’s the longest thing I’ve written so far and it’s about the length of a regular two or three parted story. - Bacon

35 - “is it too late?”
in which ben and callum are both entering their final year of college, callum is new to the area and him n ben instantly become best friends.
(for anon & the wonderful @bencal who’s birthday it is today!!! katie deserves the world and a hell of a lot more than this fic, but i hope you’ve enjoyed your day and this year treats you with so much kindness and love <33)
Of course, it’s only fitting that the first day of British summertime begins with a downpour.
Ben has never been covered in so much mud in his life, and he’d much rather be tucked up in bed, thrashing Jay on Fifa, or watching a film, than tackling in puddles for a ball.
Callum, the little shit, is up in the stands, like he is every match, wearing a bright yellow raincoat and probably the ugliest beanie Ben has ever seen, looking like he’s just about drowning. He’s the only one up there too, and every time Ben looks at him he has to stop himself from doubling over with laughter at his huddled figure.
Ben knows he’s going to come out this match covered in bruises and the odd scrape, and he knows Callum will fuss over him for it, his own injury having ruled him out of the school team for the rest of the term. Ben doesn’t enjoy the football a great deal, not half as much as Callum does that’s for sure, and to be honest, he was days away from dropping out of the teams. But when Callum had picked up the injury, he was so down about not being able to play, and chase that promotion, and suddenly Ben wanted nothing more than to carry on, to win the league, for Callum.
Despite his devotion to the team, some of the lads are being particularly standoffish today, tackling hard and pushing Ben into the mud and laughing it off like it’s a joke. At the start, Ben let himself have a little fun and get muddy. Now though, his shins are fully coated and his hair is sticky with it.
It’s funny though, when Ben gets that last minute equaliser, 89th-minute screamer, how they all celebrate with him like he’s the hero of the league. Ben only has eyes for one celebration though, Callum’s cheers can be heard from down here, and the grin stretching his face enough to wash the grey clouds away.
After, Ben’s completely soaked and chilled to the bone, and it doesn’t help that the changing room feels like a literal freezer. Everything is concrete and metal and the boys all huff out tiny, stilted puffs of air as they change and shower.
Then, he remembers, Callum. He instantly warms.
Callum, Callum, Callum.
The mysterious new lad in town, the one every man and his dog wanted to befriend, but for some unbeknown reason, he’d chosen Ben to do so.
Slowly, over the past few months, since Callum and his brother had moved to Walford, Ben has begun to learn all the little things about Callum. He knows that his favourite colour is orange, that he doesn’t have a favourite album or song because he can’t choose, he likes to read more than he lets on, and he loves to sing, no matter how much he can’t.
They’re just little things, just the tiny pieces, and Ben begins to realise that as much as he’s learning about Callum now, he doesn’t know anything about him before he came to Walford College. There’s a whole seventeen years that Ben really has no idea about.
He has no idea what made Callum who he is now, this brilliant, yet shy and reserved boy, with a heart bigger than Ben could ever imagine.
He shakes himself from his trance, grabs his bag and runs outside. It’s still pissing rain, and across the grounds he can see Callum standing by the bike shed, wrestling with his umbrella. It’s folded completely out the wrong way in the wind, and Ben finds himself laughing as he makes a break for it, thoroughly soaked.
“Why aren’t you waiting inside!?” He shouts over the rain as he approaches. When Callum sees him, he shuffles under the tiny shelter quickly.
Ben follows, and when he sees Callum’s face, he slaps a hand over his mouth to stop himself from laughing.
He looks utterly distressed, his hair wet and hanging wildly over his neck and eyes. His raincoat has been beaten spectacularly, and his umbrella is only just holding on.
“Where—” Callum starts on a shaky exhale, shivering, “have you been?”
Ben falls into hysterical laughter. “Oh, my God.”
“Ben!” Callum whines, but then he’s laughing too, his hands shaking roughly at his hair.
“You look like a drowned rat, mate,” Ben wheezes. “Not gonna lie.”
“Shut up,” Callum guffaws, shaking his hair out like a dog.
“Your umbrella,” Ben exclaims, cackling. “How did you even manage that?”
“I know, look at it,” Callum wipes at his eyes and holds it up, the whole thing mangled.
“You’re a nightmare, Cal,” Ben holds his stomach, shaking his head. “You want to come back to mine? Get you dry and then maybe I’ll let you have me on Fifa?”
“Oh, you’re finally admitting I’m better than you, then?” Callum says, and he looks pleased. “Yeah, that’d be nice, actually. Cheers.”
“Nah, it’s not that nice,” Ben says, and he tries to remember, frantically, if his room is in any state to be seen by another human, let alone Callum.
“Don’t be daft,” Callum shrugs. “I just want to get inside and get out of these disgusting clothes.”
“Come on then,” Ben says as he leans down to unlock his bike. Callum does the same, and they’re off.
It’s an absolute disaster from the word go.
It’s raining even harder than before, and Ben almost falls off his bike laughing when Callum attempts to shield himself with his umbrella as he rides, wobbling all over the places as the umbrella is pulled this way and that by the wind.
He should be hating every moment, should be angry about his idiot teammates, and his sodden clothes and annoyed about the weather. Instead, he smiles the whole way home, he and Callum laughing and shouting to each other as they pedal frantically, splashing each other with puddles and shaking out their hair.
When they finally make it back to Ben’s house, he hesitates for a moment, because his mum’s car is still in the driveway.
They kick off their muddy shoes outside the front door and attempt to shake any excess water off their bodies so they don’t drip everywhere. That, of course, proves entirely useless, and Ben attempts to make a beeline straight for his room as soon as they step inside.
“Oh, hello love.”
Ben flinches and turns quickly, seeing his mum in the doorframe leading to the kitchen, ready for work with a cup of coffee in her hands. She looks at Callum then looks questioningly at Ben.
“Mum, this is Callum. Cal, this is my mum, Kathy,” he presents. “Is it alright if Callum and I chill for a bit?”
“Sure,” Kathy blinks, looking between them again.
“Uh—hello,” Callum says, and he holds out his hand for her to shake, smiling. “Nice to meet you, Kathy.”
“You too,” she takes his hand eagerly. “Do you go to college with Ben?”
“Yeah, I’m pretty new there,” Callum affirms. Ben sighs internally as his mum looks Callum up and down again, quirk tilting at her lips. “Just been to watch the match, he was the star of the show. Again.”
“That’s what I like to hear,” she shifts her weight, flicks her eyes back to Ben’s own. “Well I best going, don’t want to be late, can’t be dealing with your brothers moaning today.”
“Alright,” Ben says with a nod.
“There’s food in the fridge, beers too — although maybe it’s a little early for drinking? Help yourself to whatever you want, Callum.”
“Yeah, mum,” he says, suppressing a groan. “I ain’t going to starve him. Bye.”
He hurries upstairs, safely away from his Mum’s prying, and Callum following close behind. There’s a little pause before he opens the door to his bedroom, and he sends a silent prayer that it isn’t entirely awful.
“It’s not much, um,” he says awkwardly, as he opens the door slowly. Nothing seems too out of order, thankfully.
“Woah,” Callum says as he enters, going straight for Ben’s record player and vinyl collection.
For a moment, Ben pauses, looking at Callum standing here in his room, fingers trailing over the curves of his records. It’s a little surreal, a little too much. Ben clears his throat awkwardly.
“Didn’t know you were such a huge fan of musicals, Mitchell,” Callum teases as a blush heats Ben’s cheeks.
The sudden flash of lighting, and the booming clap of thunder that follows it makes them both jump and flinch towards the window.
Ben approaches carefully and looks out into the street. It’s raining so heavily he can barely see the house across the Square, everything a muddy mirage as the rain falls in thick, heavy sheets.
“Apparently this is going to go on all day, I ain’t letting you ride home in this,” Biting says, biting his lip.
There’s another flash of lightning, and the thunder rattles the room.
When he looks over his shoulder, Callum is just staring at him.
“What?” Ben says, pushing his hair off his forehead nervously.
Callum blinks once, twice, then looks away. “Nothing.”
“I’ll get you a towel, hang on,” Ben says. In the dark of the hall, he rubs a hand down his face.
Callum is in the same position when he returns. Ben tosses the towel at him.
“I don’t have any spare clothes on me,” he says.
“You can borrow some of mine,” Ben says, moving towards his dresser.
“They won’t fit,” Callum says, and Ben can hear the amusement in his voice. “I’m about six foot taller than you, Ben.”
He turns with a raised eyebrow in challenge. Callum dissolves into quiet laughter. Ben throws a pair of joggers at his face, and he splutters.
“I hate this,” Callum says as he changes into them. The joggers are predictably, definitely too small, cuffed around his ankles. And, they’re tight. So tight. God.
“Perfect fit,” Ben says enthusiastically. He lets his eyes linger, long enough to burn the imagine into his memory, but not long enough for Callum to notice.
“Shove over,” Callum says, patting at the space on the bed beside Ben. He furrows his brow, but does so anyway. Callum looks over Ben’s record collection again, rubbing a hand over his chin like he’s making some grand decision. Finally, he makes a tiny noise of affirmation and slots a vinyl out.
He throws Blur, Parklife, at Ben.
“Interesting choice,” Ben says with a raised brow.
“You remind me of him,” Callum says with a little smile. He shoves Ben over some more.
“Damon Albarn?” Ben’s eyebrows rise into his hairline. “That your way of telling me you fancy me, then? Because everyone fancies Damon.”
“Shut up,” Callum laughs off, but there’s no mistaking the peach blush that floods his check, it’s one Ben’s become familiar with.
It’s silent for a long time as Ben loses himself to his thoughts, just the sound of Girl & Boys and booming thunder, the pelting of the rain on the window and their breaths. Everything is washed in a soft yellow glow, and Ben tries not to glance at Callum every time he flips a page. His hair is gold tipped in the light.
“I like these lyrics,” Callum breathes. “I don’t usually care for the words over over-hyped rockstars, but these ones always stick with me,”
He rests his hand on Ben’s hip. Ben stares at the ceiling, wide-eyed, trying to regulate his breathing.
“Love in the nineties, is paranoid, on sunny beaches, take your chances,” Callum sings, slow and hushed and mixed with the rain. Ben’s slips his eyes closed. “Always should be someone you really love.”
Ben breathes in sharply, heart pounding in his chest. When Callum stops, voice losing out to the thunder, Ben feels himself sinking into the mattress. Callum’s hand burns like fire at his hip.
There’s another flash of lightning, and in that split second their eyes meet, white-hot.
Thunder rumbles.
The light flickers, and goes out.
“Oh,” Callum breathes. Ben feels him sit up slowly. His eyes haven’t yet adjusted to the light, so all he has is touch.
All he can feel is Callum.
“Cal?” Ben whispers. He’s so tired, but the thought of missing a moment of this, of him and Callum, alone and safe, together, is terrifying for reasons Ben doesn’t want to think too hard about.
“Mm,” Callum hums, chest shifting.
“Um,” Ben says and there’s so much, so much he wants to say, to ask, to confess. “I should—should see if I can find a flashlight downstairs, or something.”
He moves, reluctantly, and Callum’s hand falls away, replaced by cold air.
“It’s alright, we’ll just wait out the storm, I guess,” Callum’s voice says, close.
There’s so much heat radiating off of Callum’s body, and Ben looks up at his raindrop covered window, searching for some kind of thought other than the one screaming for him to reach out his hands.
It’s quiet for so long. With every passing second Ben feels his throat growing tighter and tighter.
He doesn’t know if he falls asleep, or falls entirely into his thoughts, but when he comes back to himself, feeling like he’s been in a deep sleep for days, his eyes are heavy and his body is warm. Callum is a deadweight beside him, breathing evenly. It’s still raining.
“Cal,” Ben whispers into the dark. There’s no response.
He sits up slowly and tries to maneuver himself over Callum’s legs without waking him. It doesn’t work as well as he’d planned.
Callum stirs with a huff of breath and a yawn. “Ben? What’re you doing?”
“Need a piss.”
“Oh,” Callum breathes. It’s quiet again, and Ben grabs his phone, flicking on the flashlight and guides himself across the hall.
Callum stumbles in a minute later, sleep rumpled and young-looking. In the barely there light, his eyes glow like hazy amber.
“Sorry,” he murmurs. He’s just standing there, leant against the towel rack, watching. Ben turns away, pulse pressing against his neck. “Ain’t much of a fan of the thunder, didn’t want to be alone.”
Ben ducks down to wash his hands, he lets icy water hit his skin, needing that shock to wake his mind. He hisses a little and pulls away, shaking out his hands. He can feel Callum’s eyes following him, burning into him, and as he moves to the towel rack, he doesn’t meet his gaze as he wipes his face.
But he’s right there, so close that Ben can feel his warmth, can smell his aftershave clinging.
Ben glances up slowly, his gaze lifting from Callum’s bare feet all the way up to his eyes.
The flashlight is so dim that everything is cast in shadow, so low that he can’t read Callum’s face. It feels as though they’re trapped in this sudden bubble of warmth, and Ben can’t move, can’t breathe, can’t do anything, doesn't want to do anything, but look at Callum’s eyes and tremble.
“Ben,” he breathes, barely a sound. Ben swallows, electricity shocking through him, zapping his skin. There’s fear there too, gripping fear that holds him by the back of the neck.
But then Callum lifts a hand, his smooth, delicate hand, and runs a long finger down Ben’s cheek, coming to rest just by the hinge of his jaw. Ben stutters out a breath, gravitating closer, his eyes threatening to flutter closed as Callum touches him.
Callum rests their foreheads together gently, his thumb coming to rub at his jaw, his hand cupping the back of his neck and head. Ben’s body is covered in goosebumps, every inch of him shaking like a leaf, so nervous, so unused to this sort of touch.
Callum dips his mouth closer, their noses bumping. He can feel Callum’s warmth breath on his lips, and when he shifts, they brush together, just barely. Callum sucks in a deep breath, chest heaving, and leans down.
It’s so, so, unbelievably delicate. Their lips meet with a cautious press, and they stay that way for a few moments before Callum pulls away a little, then ducks down again. Ben lets him lead, lets him hold his face in his big hand, because his brain is a muddle of heat and jarred murmurs.
Callum presses in closer, both his hands cupping Ben’s face now as he kisses him slow and soft, pulling back every few moments to shudder in a breath, fingertips brushing through the soft wisps of hair by Ben’s ears. His hands slide down to his shoulders, down his front, and Ben’s stomach spikes.
He grabs Callum’s hands, pulls away slightly, eyes searching for something he’s not sure of.
“Fuck, I’m sorry,” Callum babbles as he meets Ben’s eyes, too loud in their little bubble. “Ben, I–I didn’t mean to–”
“Cal” Ben says, hoarsely. His hand finds Callum’s cheek, it’s hot to the touch, he slips it back into his hair. “Come here, yeah?”
“If you want me to go—” Callum whispers, and Ben feels it against his bottom lip, this barely-there buzz.
“Sh. Just–just come here.”
Their mouths touch again, and it’s molten, soft and melty and cautious, Ben’s bottom lip caught wetly between Callum’s. Ben has to let out a shudder of a breath, toes curling up so hard it hurts as he starts to twist his fingers in Callum’s hair. Ben feels out of body, like he can register each touch and press, he can hear the rain tapping heavy fingers on the rooftop and the low buzz of the record player and the rasp of Callum’s breathing but it doesn’t feel real.
But it is real, so real. And it’s the most intimate moment of Ben’s life, standing in the dark, holding the warm body of this soft boy, kissing him, tender and so full of feeling.
It’s Callum who pulls away the next time, and when he doesn’t duck straight back in, Ben peels his eyes open slowly to look up at him, panics.
Callum’s chest is rising and falling noticeably, his eyes intense and gentle all at once, hooded but so open. They’re locked together for a beat, and time seems to stand still for them. All of a sudden, the rain is gone, and there’s just silence. It’s just him and Callum, standing on this invincible plane, bound together.
“How long?” Callum asks, their faces still pressed up close. He’s so warm, burning up under Ben’s touch.
“So long,” Ben answers honestly. “So fucking long.”
“I’m sorry,” Callum breathes past his lips, muffled by another kiss. “‘M so clueless. Is it too late? Please tell me it ain’t too late?”
“No,” Ben hushes him, tries to pull him closer again with a nudge to his hip, but Callum shakes his head lightly and just stares down at Callum “It ain’t too late. It couldn’t ever be too late.”
They come back together on a sharp exhale, there’s little hesitancy now. Callum presses Ben against the wall, cradling his jaw and gripping at his hip, breathing heavily. Ben holds him close and tries to stop the little noises bubbling inside him from escaping. He doesn’t succeed.
“Shit,” Callum breathes, ducking down to bury his face into Ben’s neck, kissing the skin there over and over, breathing him in. “Shit, Ben.”
“Callum,” he shudders when Callum kisses wetly at the hinge of his jaw. He threads his hands into Ben’s hair again, so soft and silky beneath his fingers, and pulls him back up to his mouth. He’s never wanted anybody, anything more in his life than this, than the wet press of their mouths, the heat of Callum’s hands sliding down his back. It feels right.
“You’re beautiful,” Callum gasps out between kisses, pressing in hard. “I’ve wanted to tell you that every day since I moved to that damn school.”
“Callum,” Ben says again, because he can’t say anything else.
“You have no idea,” another searing kiss, a hot press of their bodies, “how amazing you are.”
Ben whines softly, and Callum shudders, grabbing his hand and pulling them backwards. They leave the flashlight, and they have to fumble blindly into Ben’s room. Callum’s hands are hot and possessive on his hips, squeezing him and moving him through the space. They finally find Ben’s bed, and Callum falls down first, pulling Ben on top of him.
“Oh, my God,” Ben sighs out at the press of their bodies, burying his face in Callum’s neck for a moment to try and form any coherent through.
“Kiss me,” Callum breathes. “Don’t stop kissing me.”
And so Callum kisses a line from Ben’s jaw to his lips. He cradles his jaw, presses his thumbs against the hinges, and Callum makes a throaty noise, opening his mouth wide and arching up. Ben gasps in response, and then Callum is flipping them over so quickly that Ben sees stars, reaching up blindly as Callum presses him down.
Ben likes it like this, he thinks, with Callum’s body covering him, caging him in close. The rain hits the window violently, and Callum licks into Ben’s mouth hotly. His first response is to grapple at Callum’s shirt in surprise. His second, is to open his mouth wider, keening. He’s got a hand in Callum’s hair now, tugging roughly. Callum groans, so deep and chesty. Ben is helpless against him, breathy and shaking.
When their hips brush together, Callum a steady weight on top of him, his stomach jumps and he pulls away involuntarily, before he can stop himself. Callum pauses, his breathing heavy, and searches his face.
“Y’alright?” He whispers thickly, brushing his thumb over Ben’s cheek, eyes sated and heavy.
Ben’s breath stutters in his chest, hands shaking. “I’m just—”
He lets out another shuddered breath, blinking up at Callum with wide eyes.
“I know,” Callum says, hushed. “I know.”
He kisses him again, soft and slow and honey-sweet, brushing his hair away from his forehead gently. He moves his mouth to his neck, just dragging his lips over Ben’s skin and breathing, occasionally kissing him delicately.
Callum falls sideways, coming to settle next to Ben as they kiss gently. He threads their fingers together, and Ben’s heart flutters in his chest, eyes threatening to grow wet.
“Cal,” he breathes, pressing their foreheads together.
Callum snuffles slightly, pecking Ben’s lips one more time before he tugs him in close, wrapping his arms around him to cuddle him. His chest is warm and cosy and Ben curls around his body willingly. Callum strokes his back, presses kisses to his forehead. It’s so lovely, so delicate and careful that Ben can feel his heart shaking in his chest.
“Goodnight,” Callum whispers.
Ben blinks up at him. They stare at each other for a moment, and Ben just lets it rush over him, lets himself go. He tells himself to stop thinking, to stop worrying, to put himself in the here and now; not tomorrow, not when they have to go back to school, when he knows he’ll have to go back to being Callum’s new friend, when he knows to football lads will be on his back and he’ll have to lie to Jay, when he’ll miss Callum so much it’ll make his heart ache.
Right now he’s got to let himself be happy. Callum’s mouth twitches, and Ben knows that he’s happy, too.
“Goodnight, Callum;”

Mmmm, Cake - Sin With Me - Malakai x MC (Suzi)
Short lil fic based on the prompt from @simpsonjenna1 : Can you do a fluffy story please for LI of your choice using the prompt: "Wanna pretend we're getting married and go try some free cake?" "Obviously."
No warnings - just fluff really!
Word Count: 1700
—-
[MORE] [[MORE]]
“Malakai, please, I don’t want to do anymore... I can’t! Enough! Enough!” Suzi flopped dramatically down, flat onto her back onto the gym mat, one arm sprawled over her eyes as she gulped in air. She was sweaty, and she dreaded to think what shade of red her face was or the state of her hair. They had been training for almost two hours at last count: the problem with dating a strongman was definitely the amount of stamina he had. Suzi smirked to herself, the stamina wasn’t always a problem, in fact, the other night when Malak-
Her train of though was rudely interrupted by Malakai’s deep voice somewhere above her,
“Thirsty?”
‘What?! How?!’ Suzi jolted to a seated position!
“No!! Uh, what do you-?!”
She stopped in her tracks, staring at the water bottle in his hand.
‘Thirsty. Of course that’s what he meant, Suzi...’
She grinned sheepishly at Malakai as he quirked an eyebrow at her, pushing the cold drink in her direction.
Malakai smiled back at her before swigging from his own bottle,
“I think that’s probably enough for one day, your shoulders will hurt tomorrow, that was a lot of upper body work... Let’s hit the shower, then get some food. I’m starved.”
Suzi nodded gratefully, she didn’t think she could swing those battle ropes one more time if her life depended on it.
—-
An hour late, feeling much cleaner and more refreshed, Suzi and Malakai headed down The Strip hand in hand, with the intention of getting some lunch. However, agreeing on what sort of food to get was proving difficult: Malakai had declared he would eat anything at this point, but Suzi didn’t know what she wanted. They’d passed at least five places now and Malakai’s stomach was making an ungodly racket...
As they stopped outside yet another crowded diner, Suzi’s nose scrunched up disapprovingly, but she could sense Malakai’s patience was starting to wear thin. In a attempt to make her increasingly hangry boyfriend smile, she nodded towards a cake shop on the opposite side of the street as she quipped,
"Wanna pretend we're getting married and go try some free cake?"
Malakai snorted in surprised at the comment before answering,
"Obviously. I’m Gluttony. And right now Suzi, I’d settle for anything! Let’s go!"
Suzi couldn’t help but laugh and squeal that she was only joking as Malakai cajoled her across the busy street and straight into Stefanie’s Patisserie.
Standing at the counter with a winning smile, Malakai beamed at the woman serving,
“Good afternoon, my fiancée and I, we wondered if we could taste some of your wedding cakes?”
Suzi felt her cheeks start to burn : FIANCÉE...
The red-headed woman behind the counter nodded enthusiastically, a look of faint recognition on her face as she took in Malakai: she definitely knew him from somewhere...
“Of course, Sir. Usually we do tastings on an appointment basis only, but you’re in luck. A slot has freed up this afternoon, very last minute, something to do with the groom being caught in a compromising situation with his future mother-in law... Messy business. But! The back room is all set and the samples are all ready to go.”
Malakai turned to Suzi, a gleam in his eyes that resembled a kid on Christmas morning, smirking,
“Wowww, what are the chances? Seems like it’s our lucky day... What do you say, Darling? Shall we?”
Suzi nodded her head vigorously. This was probably still somewhere near the bottom of the list of the most ridiculous things she’d did since she met Malakai: screw it, why not?
Following the red-haired woman, who subsequently introduced herself as the eponymous Stefanie, through to the back of the patisserie, Suzi tried not to laugh as Malakai nudged her with his hip, a gleeful look of mischief dancing all over his handsome face: this was totally insane! What was she doing? What was she even going to say whenever Stefanie noticed she didn’t have an engagement ring on? Stealthily she slipped her left hand into Malakai’s back pocket, earning her an approving wink.
Stefanie grinned at them both as she busied around the small, pastel-coloured backroom, bringing a photo album, napkins, china plates and silver dessert forks to the small coffee table, gesturing for them to sit, opening her notepad, beaming,
“Ok, so! DJ Gluttony? I know! It took me a few minutes! What is your actual name? And yours, hon? And how far out is the wedding? Congratulations!”
Malakai laughed,
“I’m Malakai, this is Suzi, and we don’t have a date set yet, we’re looking at next year.”
Stefanie nodded, jotting the points down on her pad,
“Ok, getting some ideas before you set the date isn’t a bad idea. You have no idea the amount of people I see coming in, four weeks before their wedding thinking that there should be no issue getting a cake. Basically, the sooner you put your order in the better, your slot’s secured, even if you aren’t entirely sure of exactly what you want twelve months in advance, the time to bake the cake is blocked off for your special day.”
Suzi bit her lip, she was starting to feel bad about this, this was the woman’s livelihood and she and Malakai were just here to score some free eats...
“How long does it take to bake a wedding cake, Stefanie?”
Stefanie started to tell the couple about the various different sizes of cake, the different flavours, icings and decorations, and how all of those things could have an impact on how long the finished product would take to create, only to be rudely interrupted by Malakai’s stomach growling! She started to laugh, passing them the photo album as she got to her feet while Malakai’s face turned a hundred different shades of red,
“I think we better get you some samples, and fast! You can have a flip through and see if there’s anything that catches your eye, style-wise.”
Stefanie disappeared from the small room as Suzi whispered to Malakai that she felt dreadful about conning the woman, especially with how nice she was! Malakai nodded thoughtfully, and was about to say something back to Suzi, when Stefanie reappeared with a large silver tray, covered in dozen little squares of cake. Placing the tray in front of Suzi and Malakai, she clapped her hands enthusiastically,
“Dig in, each one has a little description on it, I’m going to leave you both to try them all, see what you like taste-wise, then when you’re done, you can tell me about what you’d like the cake to look like, Bon Appetite lovebirds!”
Malakai shrugged at Suzi as he picked up a square of something called ‘Vanilla Caramel Latte’ and shoved it into his mouth whole, mumbling,
“We won’t leave her out of pocket, don’t worry. Just enjoy... Oh, oh. Try this.”
He swiped a forkful of the matching cake square, presenting it to Suzi with a look of utter delight on his face. Suzi took the bite, realising very quickly why he looked like he’d died and gone to heaven,
“Wow - it can’t be legal for, mmmm, cake, to taste this good?! What’s in it?!”
Malakai dabbed at his mouth with a napkin, shaking his head,
“I don’t know Suzi, but I need another piece! You chose?”
Suzi giggled, pointing at a pale pink slice,
“Let’s try that one next?”
Malakai was only too happy to oblige, melting back into the small sofa as he chewed,
“Champagne and candy floss? Damn...”
Before Suzi knew it, she and Malakai had been tasting cakes for an hour, and every slice was more delicious than the last: Sicilian lemon and caramel, rum and red velvet, dark chocolate, ginger spice, strawberry and pistachio... And finally, the impossible was done: Gluttony was full!
When Stefanie reappeared with a hopeful expression on her face, she was delighted to see that all the squares had been polished off! Malakai and Suzi delighted in telling her their favourite flavours, and how they didn’t expect some of the combinations to work, but how good they were. Then the question Suzi had been dreading came.
“So, would you guys like to book a date?”
Malakai squeezed Suzi’s knee as he answered, giving her a very sincere look,
“Stefanie, when we set a date we absolutely will book a slot: because this is the best cake I ever tasted. Don’t tell my mom I said that. But since we don’t have a date right now, would you accept a booking for a random future date, if I pay for a cake upfront, then if it’s any more, when the time comes, I’ll pay the balance? I promise that we will give you an absolute minimum of six months notice too?”
Stefanie agreed happily and took his payment, before waving them off.
Walking back towards the penthouse, Suzi looked up at Malakai as he wrapped one arm around her and pressed a kiss to her forehead,
“That was a really nice thing you did, Malakai.”
He shrugged,
“I told you we wouldn’t leave her out of pocket. And, I’m definitely going to need more of that cake in my life...”
Suzi scowled as she dug him in the ribs with her elbow, teasing
“You’d actually marry me just to get some more of that cake?”
Malakai stopped and pulled Suzi close to him,
“No, I’d marry you because you’re amazing and I love you, the insanely good cake is just an added bonus!”
Suzi shrugged, as she met his warm, dark eyes,
“You did really like that cake... Maybe I shouldn’t make you hold out for too long before you get some more of it...”
Malakai’s jaw dropped ever so slightly as Suzi’s words settled over him,
“Does that mean? Are you saying what I think you’re saying?”
Twining her arms around his neck, Suzi bit her lip and answered,
“I’m saying ‘yes’... Let’s do it! Let’s get married!”
Malakai let out a ‘whoop’ that seemed to echo around The Strip as he lifted Suzi, twirling her around and around, grinning as he drew her into a tender kiss,
“Seems like we have some planning to start on, Mrs Collins...”

i realize i haven't talked about gorillaz hcs on here in a Fat Second so here i go. trigger warnings for uhhh abuse, trauma, suicide mention, alcohol mention, death mention, experimentation (for noodle) - this is gorillaz there's a lot. this is also SUPER LONG so i'll try and add a read more
every one of em has Trauma To The Max babey!!!! these guys have been to hell and back!!! literally in murdoc's case
cyborg could talk! she just chose not to. also murdoc realized programming her with a voice was annoying because she Looked like noodle but he couldn't make her sound exactly like her and it pissed him off. every word cyborg learned was through murdoc/2D/the book of man/various other scrap pieces of paper she found
russel n del were boyfs. fuck you
2D is the only straight member. i think this is canon actually ngl (was it ever made canon that russel n del were together?? i don't remember)
russel truly believes del was his soulmate and that he'll never find love again
every year on the anniversary of d-day 2D goes back to the place where the uncle norm's organ emporium was (which is now a greggs. i know my gorillaz lore) and just vibes for a bit
russel likes to visit graveyards and play music for the lonely spirits who don't get visitors
2D accompanied him once on one of these trips and it was wild cause 2D's like "russel russel russel are there any spirits near me" as like. all of the spirits huddle next to russel because 2D is loud and annoying. russel's like "oh yeah dee there's tons of spirits over there they really like you. why don't you sing for them" and dee's like :DD
2D is generally pretty oblivious. but. he noticed russel was really sad and missing del during phase two and wrote mr softy's balloon race to cheer him up. it was one of the nicest things russel had received in years and he cried over it for hours. what 2D Didn't know was that he'd just saved russel's life and he didn't even know it.
noodle as a ten year old didn't realize How Bad the relationship between murdoc and 2D was. obviously she'd had a really fucked up childhood so far so when murdoc would hurt 2D and 2D would laugh and play it off so as not to scare noodle, noodle was just like :DDD thinking it was all ok
it was during the time that noodle was alone in phase two after remembering her past that she was like. o h n o that was bad wasn't it
noodle met a girl in japan and lowkey fell in love with her, but they had to split so noodle could go back to kong. she wrote every planet we reach is dead for her
2D and noodle never got to properly reunite in phase three. by the time doyathing happened, 2D hadn't seen her in like seven years
murdoc is trying to be less of a terrible person now and all the other members take advantage of it. russel's like "can i get a coffee please murdoc" and murdoc goes "fuck off" but all russel has to say is "remember when you thought i'd offed myself so you replaced me with a drum machine" and murdoc's like. "how many sugars" dhdgdgdh
noodle n 2D fucking love to dance together like absolute nerds
2D is like. the awkward big brother
they are each others wingmen when picking up girls
except 2D doesn't do that as much anymore so in reality he tries to be noodle's wingman but it fails miserably because 2D Can't Do Social Interaction
the boogieman and the evangelist were murdoc's parents
all the band have really bad insomnia and nightmares so sometimes they all have sleepovers in one room and just. watch a movie and sit on their phones but they're in each other's company and that's all they need
they all have a fear of helicopters, especially noodle
russel became extremely claustrophobic after his time in north korea which was very understandable
all of them have pretty weird triggers but none of them question them. noodle starts freaking out cause 2D's eating bacon and he's like "o shit sorry i'll go to another room" they're all very respectful and it's great
the reason 2D had that bead curtain door in phase four was cause after plastic beach, he couldn't stand to be in rooms with closed doors anymore
also! more 2D angst! he didn't sing for like. a good couple years after plastic beach because Trauma Babey!! so when he had to sing again for humanz, the first time he got into the studio he just. had a complete fucking meltdown because he was so scared to sing again. eventually he managed it but he literally couldn't sing with murdoc around because he was so afraid of him
noodle sometimes does really childish stuff because obviously she had no fucking childhood and the others just let her go for it and support her if she gets embarrassed about it
noodle has killed people. lots of em. some against her will as a kid, some more recently. she has a lot of nightmares about it but unlike the rest of the band, she does Really good self care and looks after herself really well
the band sometimes go on spontaneous road trips and usually end up getting lost and taking aesthetic pictures at gas stations
noodle very rarely cries because she would have gotten into trouble for that as a kid so she bottles all her emotions up in favour of helping her family. when she started going to therapy she pretended all was well for a little while but that didn't work for very long and she completely broke down. russel was very surprised to see noodle come home that day in tears and just throw herself into his arms
noodle really likes fashion and clothes and makeup!! she likes to be Colourful and Bright
when she first arrived at kong at ten years old, she really didn't understand what was going on. none of the band spoke any japanese so she was under the impression that these people were new doctors who were going to train/test on her. she stuck to the routine she was given back in japan and was very surprised when the others didn't do the same. like small green man it's three in the afternoon why are you just up?? big bald man why are you just going to bed??? where is the tall blue man WHAT IS GOING ON
none of the band members were qualified to be parents. at all. they were all very messed up mentally and therefore noodle just kinda did what she wanted as a kid
noodle was exposed to a lot of bad shit while in kong. 2D and murdoc were not responsible at all about what they did and said around noodle so russel tried to be more responsible about that, but little noodle's just like "oh don't worry i've seen worse" and russel's like ?????
noodle was the one to rebuild cyborg out of the parts she had left from plastic beach. she did this while murdoc was in prison just to prove she could
2D has an extreme fear of cyborg, which is. obvious
noodle didn't tell 2D she was rebuilding cyborg. when he finds out he flips his shit and noodle's like. ah. maybe this was not a great idea
cyborg has now formed her own band! the rejects!
2D wears little bobby pins in his hair behind his ear which the band sometimes lowkey makes fun of him for until one day noodle asks why and he tells her it was because back on plastic beach, murdoc would sometimes be too drunk to remember to bring 2D food so he had to pick the lock and go steal some. so Yikes babey!!!!!!
writing the fall was the only thing that helped 2D cope during plastic beach. that's why there was barely any singing on it - this was HIS album, HIS voice, not murdoc's. he could do what he wanted with it. writing it was the only thing that kept him sane
noodle's the only member who hasn't tried to off herself at any point oop
they're all doing a lot better now cause they're all going to therapy yes even murdoc! yay fun happy times
russel taught noodle english and in return noodle taught him japanese. russel can now speak pretty good japanese and 2D knows like. the most basic of shit *flashbacks to the gshock interview video*
there was a while where noodle believed that literally all she was for was other people. that she was either a weapon or a guitarist and nothing more. it was only after she disappeared after phase two that she realized she could be more
she still has a scar from el mañana but she covers it up with makeup
2D and murdoc have made a pact to smoke/drink less, respectively. they also made what they called a "non suicide pact" - a pact not to off themselves, formed after 2D found murdoc shooting bullets into the ceiling in phase four
murdoc knew about the dartboard 2D had in his room that had his face on it because noodle and russel told him but he didn't really believe it until he went up into his room like "hey dents can i -" and 2D turns round and just stares at him, darts in hand fhgvhfhvf
murdoc: ....whatya doin' there dents
2D, turning back to the dartboard and throwing one straight into dartboard murdoc's eye: practicing for the real thing
hcvdhvdfhg anyway
sometimes 2D literally Cannot be around murdoc so he'll disappear for days without telling anyone cause he forgets that people worry about him oh no
murdoc says he wants to drink less alcohol cause he wants to better himself as a person but really it's because he can't drink without getting flashbacks to plastic beach
murdoc's memories of plastic beach aren't great. he was drunk out his mind most of the time so he luckily forgot a lot that comes back to haunt him in nightmares and has him waking up thinking "fuck did i really do that??" but yeah sometimes 2D just reminds him of something really awful he did and murdoc's like. a h
when ace came into gorillaz he was absolutely doing it for the paycheck. then he realized how Enormously Fucked Up these people were and was like o h n o
ace could not understand a word of 2D's english accent
ace once asked 2D why he was called that. 2D said "well my real name is stuart but murdoc calls me 2D and it stuck" and ace goes!!! that's bullshit!!! and he starts calling him stuart. he refuses to call him 2D. 2D gets so emotional over it he starts crying and ace is like "s h i t what do i do did i fuck up" but in reality dee's just glad to like. not be "2D" for once and to just be someone else
murdoc and 2D are heavily codependent on each other and it's extremely unhealthy cause obviously they're Really Bad For Each Other but. 2D's known murdoc since he was 19 and murdoc has never really left his life except for the one point before and after plastic beach. that's why when murdoc goes to prison in phase five, 2D just goes apeshit. because now 2D doesn't have the threat of murdoc constantly hanging over his head!! he's gone and 2D is free!!!! yay!!!!!!!
then he's like. o h. he's gone and i'm free. oh no
because he has no clue what to do with himself now!! his whole life revolved around murdoc and now murdoc is gone 2D's realizing "Oh No maybe our relationship WAS really unhealthy if i'm feeling this depressed now that he's gone!!!"
the now now was like. the fall part two: electric boogaloo in terms of how 2D wrote it to cope with his trauma
souk eye was like a really depressing love song
2D's lowkey a little in love with murdoc but not really in the romantic sense at all. and obviously it's not cute or reciprocated by murdoc or anything 2d.c shippers dni blease
he just. feels like murdoc's the only one who could ever love him and UGH it's so unhealthy. luckily noodle makes him go to therapy and he gets a bit better. by the time the end of phase five rolls around 2D's like >:D yeah!! i won't let you hurt me anymore murdoc!!!
then murdoc actually escapes and is rumored to be dead and the whole band just shuts down
because murdoc, like it or not (and none of them liked it), was the glue that held the band together. and fuck if it didn't fucking destroy them all a little bit, especially 2D
then murdoc showed up at their door and. 2D was the one to answer it without knowing it was murdoc. and there's noodle and also murdoc, still in his prison clothes, covered in literal shit, and the first thing he blurts out is "i listened to the album."
2D panics and slams the door in his face HCDGHGCDH
russel refuses to let murdoc inside unless he can give him one good reason to. noodle comes in through the back door and comforts her brother while he has a panic attack and murdoc's just. sitting at the door pouring his heart out to russel through the door. covered in shit. these guys need help man
eventually 2D and murdoc face each other again and oh lord. they're both crying and then murdoc apologizes and murdoc's never apologized for anything, ever, he never says he's sorry, and then they're hugging and noodle and russel are like !!!!!!!
meanwhile ace is like. can i get my paycheck. can i PLEASE get my paycheck
murdoc: here dents i got you a demon possessed yak. her name is madonna
ace, who's spent many a night listening to 2D cry and vent about murdoc and all he's done to him: surely he's not just gonna accept that and move on
russel and noodle, who know 2D far too well: oh he will. trust me he will
long story short 2D is now the proud father of a demon possessed yak named madonna
song machine is kind of like. their Big Project that they're putting together to try and bring them all closer as a family. it's kind of working but also not really. they're trying their best
they're all a good family and they have to stick together and they're messed up but they love each other!!!! that is all thank you and goodnight ladies and gentlemen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My 2020 Awards (Music & Anime)
Music
Song of the Year: xaa-xaa – Horror This is the most played song on my playlist this year and it’s deserved. It’s just a really great song with one of the best intro’s of the year. Kazuki’s voice is perfection.
Honourable Mentions:
SID – Siren This one could technically be considered SOTY, but I thought that Horror deserves it a bit more. Still, Mao’s vocals give me chills
Taemin – Criminal It’s definitely one of his best songs and one of this year as a whole. And you know… it’s Taemin.
MY FIRST STORY – Underground Has a cool beat and great vocals. I also adore the lyrics.
QUEEN BEE – BL Probably has the best beat/Bass-line of this yea. Also showcases Avu-chan’s range.
Artist of the Year: xaa-xaa (Horror, Happy Wedding, Reito Ningen) I love this group. They constantly put out Bangers only and yet always end up under my radar. But this year, with the rest of the J-Rock scene being kinda dead, they really stood out. All of their songs landed on my playlist this year, so they really deserve it.
Honourable Mentions:
Kenshi Yonezu (KANDEN, Campanella, Canary) This guy is just one of the most interesting Japanese artists currently active. His Stray Sheep album is also really good.
Stray Kids (gods menu, Back Door) This year, Stray Kids really took me over. They had two very well directed Comebacks with amazing Music Videos.
TWICE (More & More, I Can’t Stop Me, Cry for Me) I didn’t really care for them in the past years, but they really delivered good music.
Super Junior (2YA2YAO, Burn the Floor, the Melody) TIMELESS was my favourite album of the year and the tracks we already got for the Renaissance sound really good. The Sub-Units (especially D&E) also had good comebacks.
Best Music Video of the Year: Stray Kids – gods menu This music video is a piece of art. There are no unclean cuts or weird jump-cuts, the Transitions are really fluid and the editing in general is just genius. Even if somebody doesn’t like Stray Kids, they can appreciate this video.
Honourable Mentions:
Stray Kids – Back Door Has the same great editing as gods menu, but there is one(!) unclean Cut. But it does have my favourite shot of the year.
Xaa-xaa – Horror It’s really well made and basically a Horror movie in cue with the music.
QUEEN BEE – BL Has a really creative production design and colour scheme and some really nice transitions.
BUMP OF CHICKEN – Acacia This is just a Music Video straight out of Nostalgia. And it’s animated by Studio BONES, so your argument is invalid.
Dance Performance of the Year: Taemin – Criminal First of all: It’s Taemin. This man can make everything look effortless, no matter how hard it actually is. And dancing with your hands tied is really f**king hard! Let’s just cut this short before I actually get into a five page long analysis about why this choreo is so amazing and just say: It’s one of the best K-Pop choreos of all time.
Honourable Mentions:
Super Junior – Burn the Floor Probably has one of the coolest concepts of this year, but isn’t perfectly executed. The combining of classical and modern elements is really interesting though.
Stray Kids – Back Door It’s energetic and has one of my personal favourite choreo elements of the year.
BTS – Black Swan A cool choreo, but appears to be a bit overproduced. Still, that MMA performance blew me away. It’s also sad, that it got overshadowed by Jimin’s solo dance in the MV.
Dreamcatcher – Scream It’s one of the coolest Girl Group choreos and one of the few, that actually reserved a spot for a missing member, by replacing her with a masked dancer (take notes, EXO!)
Rookies of the Year: E’LAST (Swear, Tears of Chaos) They had one of the most interesting debuts this year, but got massively overlooked. The Comeback they had a few months later was definitely better executed and actually great, but was still overlooked. E’LAST really deserves more attention, please listen to them. If you don’t, them you could at least watch one of their dance covers of Black Swan, gods menu or Criminal.
Honourable Mention:
GHOST9 (Think of Dawn, W.ALL) They also had a really interesting debut concept, but their Comeback was a bit weaker.
Most Underrated Comeback of the Year: E’LAST – Tears of Chaos It’s a really amazing song with great styling, but was overlooked, because the group is from an unknown label and the stages were partly cut, since they couldn’t afford full promotions. Still, please check it out.
Honourable Mentions:
CIX – Jungle People somehow didn’t like this song and I can’t understand it. It definitely had one of the best breakdowns this year.
ONF – Sukhumvit Swimming This song needs more than one listening to like it, but it’s honestly one of the funniest/ most nonsense Comebacks of the year.
Super Junior D&E – No Love D&E is probably one of the best subunits and the song just slaps.
ONEUS – TO BE OR NOT TO BE It has an amazing build up, but the refrain is a bit weak. The Breakdown is the best of the year though.
Most Underwhelming Comeback of the Year: BTS – Dynamite Honestly, the Instrumental of Dynamite is really great, the execution of the rest is just… questionable. I still don’t understand, why this couldn’t be a Korean Comeback. About a year ago, they insisted that they were Korean artists and that they would not release and English song, but look were we are now. And I don’t even want to start on the Autotune. Jimin sounds like a chipmunk and I wasn’t able to pick out the difference between the rest of the vocalists. This could have been a Jungkook solo for all I know. With a better execution, this could have been a good song, but how it is, it’s just a stale earworm.
Honourable Mentions:
BTS – Black Swan It’s kinda the same problem. The Autotune is obnoxious and makes the song too forgettable. Without it, it could be great.
Super M – 100 It could have been better, but sounds a bit phoned in. There’s also a lot of questionable styling.
VAV – Made for Two Similar to Dynamite it also has a great instrumental with a weak execution, but it’s still a nice send off for Baron to the Military.
EVERGLOW – La Di Da The chorus and bridge are really good, especially the chorus, I love this chorus. But sadly the verses and rap fall flat. The rap-part is also slightly obnoxious.
Worst Comeback/Song of the Year: BLACKPINK – HOW YOU LIKE THAT I’m sorry, Blinks, but I really don’t like this song. The lyrics are all over the place, it rehashes the same formulas musical and video wise and the worst part is: It sounds like four songs stitched together. I kinda like the bridge, but the rest of the song is actively obnoxious.
Honourable Mentions:
BTS – Respect The entire 7 Album isn’t really good, but this song is just annoying. The way it starts really grates my nerves and, come on guys, this is basically a Cypher, when did you forget how to do this?
BLACKPINK feat. Selena Gomez– Ice Cream Whoever green-lit these lyrics deserves to be fired. Selena Gomez also sticks out like a sore thumb.
TREASURE – MMM Just… just… No! YG, go home, you’re drunk!
IZ*ONE – Secret Story of Swan The chorus is probably the most obnoxious one, I’ve heard all year. The Music Video is also a technicolour nighmare.
Anime
Anime of the Year: Jujutsu Kaisen This Anime has just really amazing Animation, some of the best animated fights of 2020 and, damn, the characters are engaging. Sukuna really seems like he could be one of the new greatest Manga/Anime antagonists. Park Seonghoo really proofed himself to be a really great director, so now it’s pretty clear, that Crunchyroll is to blame for the train wreck God of High-School turned out to be.
Honourable Mentions:
Attack on Titan the Final Season As a Manga-reader, I really appreciate that MAPPA is not censoring anything from the Marley arc. They really proved, that they can hold the torch from WIT.
Fugou Keiji: Balance Unlimited It’s just a really well made Mystery show, with interesting main characters, but not for the reasons Tumblr says.
ID:_Invaded A really interesting Sci-fi original Anime, with probably one of the coolest protagonists this year.
Moriarty the Patriot One of the most underrated Animes of the year, but Saito Souma really gives an amazing performance.
Opening of the Year: Fugou Keiji: Balance Unlimited (SixTONES – NAVIGATOR) It’s just a really cool song, with a very nice verse. The full version also has a really cool rap-part. It’s just a really well made OP and, even though the Animation isn’t the best, it really hits all the right notes. I also like how in sync with the Song the Animation is.
Honourable Mentions:
Moriarty the Patriot (Tasuku Hatanaka – DYING WISH) Just has a really nice intro and build-up, as well as good high-notes.
God of High-School (KSUKE feat. Tyler Carter – Contradiction) It certainly is the best animated OP of the year, but goes a bit too hard with the Techno for me.
Attack on Titan the Final Season (Shinsekai Kamettechan – Boku no Sensou) It fits the new tone of the season surprisingly well and yeah, it’s basically a banger.
Jujutsu Kaisen OP 1 (Eve – Kaikai Kitan) The song is pretty standard, but it looks really pretty and there is a panda running on a rooftop, so…
Ending of the Year: Jujutsu Kaisen ED 1 (ALI feat. AKLO – LOST IN PARADISE) This is one of the few Anime songs that actually gets me to stand up and dance. The Animation is pretty adorable and, damn, the final chorus hits way too hard in the full version, holy shit. I liked ALI fine for Wild Side (the Beastars OP), but this song really knocks that out of the park. This really is a band I’ll keep an eye out for.
Honourable Mentions:
Fugou Keiji: Balance Unlimited (OKAMOTO’s – Welcome My Friend) This was my ED of the year, before we got LOST IN PARADISE. It has a great intro and I really just adore the song.
ID:_Invaded (MIYAVI – Other Side) It’s really boring Animation-wise, but the Cologne Cathedral may be in it, so that’s a plus. On the other side, the song is really awesome and hits way too hard. I swear, this entire Anime is just a MIYAVI fan convertor.
Haikyuu!! To the Top!! 2 (SPYAIR – One Day) It’s a really nice song, certainly one of SPYAIRs best, there is only one problem: You just don’t hire SPYAIR for an Ending!
The Great Pretender (Freddy Mercury – The Great Pretender) I mean, it’s Freddy Mercury! How can you not like it? Also, the Animation is cute.

August ‘20
Ruiner
Ruiner frames its action at an isometric tilt. There’s a lot of red; in the game’s interface, as the prominent colour of the neon lighting that adorns its stages, and in the blood that is frequently spilled. Its cyberpunk setting isn’t anything particularly new, but as a unifying aesthetic, the glitchy effects, and out-there personalities doing their best to cope in a dystopia do well to build a convincing and intriguing world. Stages are action packed and throb with electronic noise and big loud industrial bass hits, with the play being akin to an arena shooter; enemies surging at you in bite size, minute-at-a-time waves, with each of these closing out with a grading screen serving as the pat on the back to keep that dopamine rhythm pulsing. It’s a pretty hypnotic cocktail.
These stages evolve out of a singular hub city, and while it’s not particularly big, there’s just the right level of hubbub, and it has a lovely Hirusawa Susumu track acting as an excellent, melancholic mood-setter. Based on the size of its world and the the quick-fire action being split between a very small number of stages, it’s not surprising to say it’s fairly brief - I mean, how could it get so big? But what is important is that it’s plenty of fun and and has style by the bucketload. I got a good kick out of it.
Carrion
On one hand, a horror game where you play the horror is just the kind of flip on a genre that’s needed to freshen things up a bit. On the other, it’s one straight out of the spoof ‘Peter Molydeux’ playbook. What a carri-on.
... I’m sorry. After your initial escape from a lab, Carrion centres around a hub world, with individual stages then breaking off to allow for more specific themed stages. What you’re trying to do within these is to spread your big, goopy self around, where certain spots will act as save points but also count toward unlocking an alternative path back to the hub and opening up new routes in the process. What’s unique to this particular metroidvania take is that while there are new skills that open up new routes, your movement in general is uniquely freeform - point in a direction and off you go, free of any worries about platforming and the gravity that’d otherwise bind you. While it may not be the most precise movement given the size to which you grow - and boy does this become a point during some forms of combat - it does remain responsive, and quite fun to simply shamble about like a giant congealed blob of bloody, multi-toothed sinew-y mess. Everything scales up nicely on both sides of the fighting, with distraught pistol-equipped humans turning to shielded folks with flamethrowers, all the way up to drones and mechs that are just as mobile and / or deadly as yourself, even in spite of your own upgrades that allow for more ranged, varied, and sharper extremities. It’s not especially long, and is never so taxing as to demand too much expertise of you, but it is fun and importantly, quite unlike anything else out there.
Yoku’s Island Express
Pinball continues to feel like a lost art form to me, with the nuance of skilled play being more like a foreign language than another type of game you can easily pick up. Yoku, newly-appointed postmaster, is but a tiny little bug, and as such is indebted to these skills in his efforts to travel and clamber about an environment much larger than he. Flippers are casually littered about to shoot you from one area to the next, but there’s also plenty of sections you’re led to by the story that are small yet just detailed enough to play like a neatly sectioned off area of a complete table - complete with requirements for precise shots to move forward, and those inevitable moments where you have to sit back and watch as your ball falls with miserable, exacting precision between the flippers. Failure typically sets you back a few pickups, but given these are just as quickly re-earned, you’re never punished too hard - there’s certainly no three strikes and out mentality here. It’s a very friendly interpretation of pinball’s mechanics, and there’s a decent enough story layered on top, with its characters and art demonstrating enough pleasant charm that you can definitely see this being a great way to introduce pinball to a younger audience. That’s not to say it’s not enjoyable from an older player’s point of view - just that you know what’s being presented is a wisely palatable version of a classic hobby, rather than the arse-kicking ordeal you may be used to.
Rime
I am certain that Rime would love me to compare it to a certain Fumito Ueda PS2 game. There’s the ultra-minimal scene that’s set as a boy washes up on an island; a sparse, beautiful, somewhat Mediterranean set of landscapes, and with very few ways to interact with it all that don’t involve clambering over things or shouting out in wordless desperation. But as you’ll have noted, I haven’t found it in myself to justify using that game’s name here.
As much as I wanted to give this a chance, it often felt directionless, uninspired, and at worst, slow and tedious. The puzzles are derivative of any number of games I’ve played before, and the biggest danger is that you might assume as to their difficulty and over-engineer your approach, rather than not be able to tackle them. The platforming is simplistic and regularly drawn out with ledges, ledges, and more ledges to climb across and dangle from; even if you were to find a way to fall to your doom, as is tempting, it is unlikely to take you back much further than a few seconds. Crucially, there’s really very little to sink your teeth into on any front, and even when the game does finally start to weave some plot threads into the game’s canvas, it’s well into the latter half - long after I’d already racked my brains for any hint of an allegory that’d fit, and given up on expecting one. Sadly, to the point that the actual story felt like a cheap afterthought when it did finally start to unravel. This bounced off me much harder than I’d expected - I came away wishing it had forged a bit more of an identity and a purpose rather than just an aesthetic strung together with some weak elements of play.
If Found
As far as interactive elements in visual novel-type games go, If Found has a different approach to most. The story’s primarily told by means of a diary - one that’s full of witty observations, personal reflections and enigmatic sketches - that you actively erase as a means to push events along. The diary belongs to Kasio, a trans girl returning to their small Irish hometown after a stint away at university in the city; a return that’s not met in the warmest or most understanding fashion. As a mechanic, the erasure of this diary is loaded with meaning; peeling back layers of a scene often matches a more poignant set of observations, and the scrubbing of such personal details away offers a painful reflection on an identity being chipped away at. It’s very much a story about finding one’s self, about coming of age, and as it rides these highs and lows it does an excellent job in making you ride along these alongside the characters, and it does one hell of a job to make you think about the compassion that you both see and offer in the world outside. I’ll put my hands up and say that there are some elements of the story running in parallel to this main one that didn’t gel with me quite so well, but this is a minor footnote to an otherwise highly enjoyable play through. In a short space of time, Annapurna have done a great job in winning me over with their publishing choices - particularly in holding up the kinds of voices and ideas that fit these smaller titles so perfectly.
Double Kick Heroes
It’s a rhythm game. I like rhythm games! It’s about a zombie apocalypse. Oh no. It’s... a heavy metal rhythm game? Ok, maybe we can work with this.
After a trailer name dropping a bunch of familiar artists - Jinjer, Carpenter Brut, Gojira - what surprised me straight off was that none of these licensed artists featured in the game’s story mode. They’re all sectioned off in a separate menu, and while on the bright side they’ve each given a unique stage with a visual theming in keeping with the bands in question, it feels like a bit of a missed opportunity. Instead, all tracks throughout the story were composed by just one person, and with only a small handful of featured musicians being included to diversify things. It starts with more (arguably) palatable hard rock numbers, but goes up to and includes grindcore, death metal, black metal and the like, meaning that not only is it going to put a lot of folks off right away, but that it’s asking a heck of a lot for one composer to cover all of these sub-genres with the appropriate care. While it was refreshing to hear some types of music I’d normally not expect to hear in a game, some tracks inevitably grated, and while I enjoyed some others, I wasn’t ever bowled over too strongly either.
The story itself is fairly by the numbers. It sees an on-tour band fighting back against a zombie uprising, and has unsubtle references to any number of heavy artists, albums and songs shoe-horned in at every opportunity. It also bears the hallmarks of its dialogue being written by someone that has a very particular sense of humour which personally all fell very flat. While the team undoubtably do love music, the over-enthusiastic style rubbed me in a similarly uncomfortable fashion as Jack Black does regularly, with his half-comedian, half-musician schtick. The gameplay itself is based around the drum parts of its songs also corresponding to different weaponry on your car that holds the hordes back, and while this on its own can prove tricky, higher difficulties also mounts other expectations - like steering your vehicle, or alternating pedals to shoot different parts of the screen. Some of my frustration with all of this is likely my own fault for having chosen to play on the ‘Hard’ difficulty, but traditional wisdom feels a little bit lost when you can still get damaged when your combo meter is racked up well into triple digits.
In all, Double Kick Heroes presented some pretty unique gaming scenarios; like having to work out the best controller configuration to play blast beats with, or asking out loud “did I just hear the words ‘we are Genital Absolution’ coming from a Nintendo console?”, and it’s clearly a small team working on something they really care about. I respect that. I didn’t enjoy it as much as I was hoping, but I hope they’re proud of what they’ve created.
Manifold Garden
A puzzle game taking significant inspiration from the works of M.C. Escher is a pretty good starting point in my eyes. It being presented in a wonderful manner certainly doesn’t harm either; from the UI all the way into the game, it’s beautifully clean and defined, opting for delicate shading rather than messy textures, and with its intricate, recursive geometric patterns, you’ll likely find cause to stop and take stock on a regular basis.
One button looks after your basic interactions with the world (pushing, picking up, and so on), with your other crucial way of interacting with the world being the ability to approach a surface and then assign it as ‘the new down’ - spinning everything about an axis, planting your feet to it, and changing your perspective on everything. There’s a nice steady introduction of puzzle pieces as you ease your way in, but they all stem gracefully from these simple mechanics. That I - not the world’s greatest puzzle gamer - was able to enjoy this without every getting too stuck may hint at it perhaps not being as complex as some puzzle fiends might desire, however this amounted to me coming out the other side with great waves of satisfaction, and nought but positives to say. I would go so far as to say that it’s the most fun I’ve had playing a puzzle game in a long, long time, and to boot it’s also perhaps the game where I’ve used the screenshot button the most copiously. Wonderful stuff.

A Kind Of Magic
Here is the next part. Thanks for all the Tumblr love :)
10
“There is nothing like a shared interest to draw people together.”
They cleared away all the breakfast dishes and tidied the kitchen, Taron washing and Robyn drying as before. They also took the time to dress each other’s stitches.
“Did Doctor Keane give you any tablets like I got some?” Asked Taron as he tapped the dressing to Robyn’s shoulder.
“Yeah she did. My prescription finished on Thursday morning. I just have to go and get these stitches out next week.”
“Your shoulder still looks bruised though. Isn’t it still sore?”
“If I lay on it with direct pressure yes but I can move about and lift and stretch.” She felt Taron run his finger down the tape to keep it secure and stuck on the dressing. “Thanks Taron.”
“Anytime.” He said as he pulled the strap of her top back up.
She got to her feet and kicked her shoes off. “Garden.” She said simply and skipped out into the deck and onto the grass before turning back. “Suncream.” She said as she walked past Taron who had been following her but stopped as she walked back into the apartment and into her closet in the bedroom before she walked out again. “Case.” She said but turned and walked back into the bedroom. “Purse.”
Taron couldn’t help the fully belly laugh that he made as he watched Robyn walk around her apartment from one room to another just randomly saying words and it felt so good, but at the same time quite sore and unpleasant as his side hurt to laugh like that.
“Key.” She returned holding a tiny key in her hand and walked to the laundry room. She opened the door, disappeared for a second before coming back lifting a very heavy looking case.
“Whoa, that’s heavy Robyn!” He went to give her some help but with ease, Robyn lifted the case up higher and onto the island. “You are a little freakishly strong.” He said as he watched her put the small key in the lock and open it.
“Lifting three and four years old builds some serious muscle. I don’t know if this is something you want to see inside of. It will completely change your opinion of me.”
“Why?” Asked Taron intrigued.
“Well this is my case from Florida that I had great intentions of coming home to pack properly after I went to the 7/11 to get my turtles, which I never actually got by the way. Anyway, after I left you in the hospital…” Robyn gave him a sad smile. “I had about an hour to pack up the rest of my things before I needed to leave for the airport so I literally just threw everything in.”
Taron moved a bit closer to her. Although he was hurt when he found out she had left him so suddenly, he hadn’t really thought about how Robyn had felt as she packed up to leave so quickly to return home. As much as he was upset with her departure it must have been just as horrible if not worse for Robyn.
“I just want the suncream but yeah. It’s in here somewhere, in this mess.” Robyn heaved her case open. “Left or right?”
“You haven’t unpacked this yet?” Asked Taron as she unzipped the left side.
“Erm no. Haven’t really had the motivation to do it.” She walked away and back into the laundry room and carried out a white wicker laundry basket. “Might as well sort the washing out too. You really don’t have to watch this Taron. Not going to be very interesting at all. Ya know girly delicates and dirty clothes.”
Taron pulled a stool over and sat on it, feeling the need to sit rather than stand, his body feeling tender and rough. “We have already crossed barriers that others haven’t. I think we might be past the dirty laundry stage.”
“Okie dokie.” Replied Robyn as she started pulling clothes out and throwing the majority of them into the laundry basket. Pants, t-shirts, bras, shorts and bikinis as well as many pairs of socks were put in along with some jeans. Robyn stopped when her hands pulled out the blue polo shirt she has been wearing the in the 7/11. It was still frayed at the bottom from where she had cut it to use the material as a bandage for Taron’s arm, the back-left shoulder covered in her blood and it was littered with spots of Taron’s blood too. She turned to look at him before moving over to the bin beside her kitchen door. “Well I don’t need that any more.” She then pulled out the jeans she was wearing and threw them into the bin too. “Or those.” The white pair of converse she was wearing were next but she dropped them in the laundry basket for a wash. She wasn’t quite willing to part with an expensive pair of shoes that cost her more than half a day’s wages.
“I am pretty sure my ripped white t-shirt is in a bin too. Couldn’t really salvage it when someone decided to rip it in half.” Taron tried to lift the spiralling mood and was glad to see that Robyn had thrown the clothing out that she was wearing in the 7/11 because he had done the exact same thing once he was given back his belongings that he came in with in the hospital. It was a reminder he didn’t want and it seemed Robyn was thinking the same.
“I was updating your boring white t-shirt look. It needed some rips.” She welcomed how Taron quickly made a little joke about the clothes they had been wearing when everything went to shit in the 7/11 and she returned to her case, making quick work of pulling out more dirty clothes and finally at the bottom of the left side of the case she found the bag of suncream she was looking for. “Ah-ha!” She said proudly as she pulled the canvas bag out. She left the suncream on the island and closed her case over, zipping it fully. She lifted it off the island and kicking her laundry basket across the floor she put both in the laundry room to the side, closing the door behind her.
“Robyn!”
“What?” She asked as she came back to stand beside Taron, opening the bag of suncream.
“You are seriously going to leave that in there like that?”
“Yeah, I will fix it later. I really am not in the mood for clearing out the rest of it and sorting the washing? Ugh not happening right now.” She enjoyed the disapproving look he gave her. “I told you your opinion of me was going to change. I only wanted the suncream for us.” She turned the bag upside down, emptying it all out onto the island. “Ok factor fifty for you and I shall take this ten.”
“Ten? Absolutely not. I saw your sunburn in the 7/11, I even rubbed the aftersun in. Factor fifty for you too.” Taron took the ten away leaving the bottle of fifty.
Robyn grinned. “That was because I didn’t use any suncream. I will be ok with ten and you can take the fifty. I already have a very good base. I am normally not this colour. I just tan easily and took full advantage of my weekends on the beach.”
Taron got off the stool. “Let’s compromise with a twenty-five then.”
“Twenty-five for you and fifteen for me? Ten for me? Or I could go straight for this factor four tanning oil.” Robyn picked up the brown bottle.
Taron grabbed the bottle from her. “No tanning oil. Seriously? Tanning oil?”
“I love a good beach holiday and I like a tan. Tanning oil helps, near the end of the holiday. Not at the start.”
Taron pulled two bottles towards him. “Twenty-five for me and fifteen for you.”
With the suncream factors agreed on and rubbed in, Taron making sure he got Robyn’s shoulders, both Robyn and Taron took to the garden and a sun lounger each, Taron on his back, a soft pillow under his head, Robyn sitting up reading a book. His right side was still giving him hell after laying on it all night and lying on his back was the most comfortable position for him. Robyn had asked him to tie the strings of her top behind her back after he had finished rubbing her suncream in. ‘Tan lines’ she had simply said and he obliged tucking them in the back of her top. As the time passed on, his had opened the remainder of the buttons on his shirt and the heat of the sun felt just perfect on his shattered body.
Robyn had given him free reign over the music and he would ask Alexa to change the song or artist but he had settled on Elton John who was playing through the speakers which Robyn had connected to her Alexa so the music could be heard inside and out. It was exactly what he was sure Doctor Hart would have been expecting of him. Relaxing, listening to music and it was pure heaven. He sang along every now and again, having to stop when he gave it too much gusto, his whole body protesting but he definitely enjoyed it when he heard Robyn joining in at times too.
She had thrown back the doors to her bedroom too, turning off the air con and letting the late summer fresh air filter the whole way through her apartment. She took a glance every now again to Taron as he lay with one leg bent, his arms down by his side, his whole pose looking stress-free, his eyes closed, his breathing easy. His open shirt fluttered in the breeze and the bruising on his ribs and side still looked very sore, even a week after he had been hurt. Seeing how much slower Taron moved that morning, his hands moving to his side as he turned too quickly or bent the wrong way, Robyn knew he was trying to hide how much discomfort he was still in despite the strength of his pain killers. In saying that, the picture of Taron lounging easily in the sun was another image she was adding to her album of him in her mind. It was her perfect idea of a very lazy Saturday.
For three hours they lay in silence, the music enough for both, Taron dozing in and out of sleep. He wanted to pocket this feeling of surreal tranquillity and pull it out whenever he felt stressed or his anxiety start to rise. Every now and again he would look to Robyn and she looked just as peaceful as he felt. He watched her mouth the words along to whatever song was on as she flipped through the pages of her book. He couldn’t explain how much he enjoyed her company and he took delight in the fact that there was no pressure for them to talk or make conversation and it was a wonderful easy atmosphere surrounding them. He felt like she knew what he needed before he even needed it and he needed this rest. The angst and worry that had plagued him were slowly leaving his body as the sunlight and warmth crept in. As much as he loved his family, he knew he would never get respite like this at home. His mam would be almost fussing over him, being overly concerned which he loved about his mam but it was the not the attention he needed right now. He knew Robyn was keeping a very close watchful eye over him too, just doing it in her own stealthy way, letting him just rest in the silence, but ready to move to him if she needed.
Their quiet was interrupted by a ringing phone, Taron turning his head as he recognised his ring tone. He went to move, a grimace filling face, a groan leaving his lips and he had stop getting up as his head felt light and his delicate chest twinged.
“I got it.” Said Robyn as she jumped to her feet. “You stay.” She saw how Taron’s whole body froze as he experienced a serious wave of pain as he moved off the low lounger. It just added to number of times she had watched him cringe so far that day and she wasn’t liking it.
She walked into the bedroom from the garden and picked up his phone from the bedside locker where he had left it and brought it back out to him. Taron had sat up very gingerly and moved so his legs were either side of the seat and she handed him the phone, watching as his eyes lit up as he read the name on the screen. Robyn hadn’t looked but knew it must have been somebody special for the call to get such a reaction.
“Elton, hey!” Robyn’s head turned twice as Taron answered the phone. “My mam yeah? Ahh man thanks Elton. No, I am ok. I’m good. I’m really good. I’m at a friend’s house. Yes, her name is Robyn and what else has my mam told you?” Taron looked to Robyn as he spoke on the phone and patted the sun lounger beside him for her to sit down and she did so copying the way he was sitting. She listened to the one ended conversation as Taron spoke to who she could only presume was Elton John. She had never seen Taron’s face light up so much and his eyes shone as he laughed and joked and spoke to his good friend, but she did notice how a frown tinged his features every now and again, his hand going to his side or his head. “I haven’t been doing much singing, no. I have to wait until my ribs heal up but Robyn and I are going to have an Elton/Freddie sing off.” Taron’s smile spread wide. “I haven’t heard her sing a lot but I know she can sing. I will represent, don’t you worry though with the looks I am getting now, I have a feeling I should be a little worried.” Robyn smirked and nodded. The conversation lasted two or three more minutes, Taron assuring his friend that he was ok and thanking him very much for the phone call. Taron said his goodbyes, wished Elton’s family well and ended the call, casually placing the phone down on the lounger between himself and Robyn.
“So, Elton John regularly calls you on a Saturday morning?” Asked Robyn.
“Yeah.” Shrugged Taron with a breezy tone but as he looked to Robyn who was raising an eyebrow at him, he had to laugh. “My mam phoned him to tell him what had happened and let him know I was ok. He is holding a charity action in a few weeks time and just wanted to make sure that I would be able to attend it after what happened. We are supposed to be singing together but he told me I was only to do so if I could.”
“Elton John was just calling you.”
“Robyn.” Grinned Taron, watching her eyes light up.
“Let me freak out for a little bit ok? It’s Elton John!”
Taron chuckled but his laughter was disrupted his phone ringing again. “Let’s play guess the celebrity caller.” Robyn grinned as he picked up his phone.
“Ahh this is a celebrity we both know.”
Robyn looked at him puzzled until he answered the call. “Hey Richard!”
“Richard!” Echoed Robyn.
“Let me put you on speaker mate. Robyn is here too.”
“Hello my fake co-star girlfriend.” Laughed Richard.
“Hello my fake boyfriend.”
“It is good to hear your voice Robyn.”
“You too Richard.”
“Taron, I have literally been calling you for the last two days.”
“Aww sorry mate. I have been sleeping for the last two days. I have made one phone call and that was to my mam.”
“So, you made to Robyn’s then?” Asked Richard, so glad to hear his friend’s voice. He had been worried when he had been getting through to Taron’s voice mail for the last two days.
“Yeah I did.”
“And she let you in? Robyn, I thought you would know better than to let strange men into your house!”
Robyn laughed. “You would think I would but I guess not and I don’t know if I count you two as complete strangers. I mean we did spend a whole night together.”
Another round of laughter filled the air.
“Taron how are you mate?”
“Yeah I am good Richard. Getting there and you? How are you?”
“Make up has had to cover the bruises but I am good too, Straight back into it. It’s been a good distraction.”
“Richard, can I just say something before, we have a catch up?” Robyn’s tone of voice turned serious.
“Sure Robyn.”
“I am so sorry for leaving you in the hospital Richard and for the letter I wrote and leaving all the responsibility of dealing with the fall out of what happened in the 7/11 with you because it was something that should not have been left to you to deal you. You were affected as much as Taron and I by what had happened and we all needed to talk about it but I got scared and ran away, which is a normal Robyn reaction. I am trying to be better. Taron has helped a lot and is teaching me that its ok to let people in but I just cannot apologise enough for what I did. I am really really sorry.”
As she spoke Taron reached over and took her hand.
“I am only going to say it once, but you do not need to apologise to me.” Said Richard over the phone his voice sterner than Robyn’s. “I am firm believer in things happen for a reason and this, whatever happened between us, happened for a reason. I won’t lie, when I found the letter, it took a while for me to process it and I don’t think I was the best person to speak to Tina but I imagine that by now all that air has been cleared and Taron is going to be ok, me too and you as well Robyn. It was you who held us all together in the 7/11 and whatever happened after that, might have been done in haste and because you were scared and had your own responsibilities but it’s done. You two have probably had that conversation by now so let’s leave it there. We know we will always be bonded by what happened and know we can turn to each other when we need to and that is what is most important.”
“Jesus did you two take lecture lessons after we met? You are both seriously knocking it out of the park with these speeches.” Robyn might have answered Richard’s touching words with her usual defensive sarcasm but she could feel the burden of guilt and worry she had been carrying about leaving Richard leave as he spoke and she wished he was there so she could give him a very grateful squishy hug.
“So, we are all forgiven and know that we can talk to each other when we need to?” There were a firm yes from Taron and Robyn. “Great. So, what have you two been up too?”
A long light-hearted conversation followed as the three caught up with each other, telling stories of their last three days, Richard very jealous of the baking Taron had been tasting as well as their chilled-out time in the garden. Richard was up to his eye in script changes and re-shoots. It was relaxed and carefree chat, jokes and giggles being thrown about and when the phone call ended, the three had made a promise to meet up when their individual schedules allowed it.
“So, can I expect any more phone calls from your friends?” Asked Robyn. “Maybe Hugh might give us a call, sing us a song…” She grinned.
“I can call him if you want.” Said Taron as he went to look for his number in his phone but Robyn pulled his phone from his hands.
“I was messing, God no.”
“Seriously, though, I can do that.”
“I know you can but you won’t. I am going to put this phone back now.” Robyn got up from the lounger, walked back to the bedroom and put the phone on the locker beside the bed.
“You’re a Hugh fan?” Asked Taron as she walked back.
“Have been since is Oklahoma days. He’s an amazing performer.”
“Did he come to Ireland on his tour?”
Robyn pulled her lounger closer to Taron’s so they could lay comfortably back down in their own space but closer than they had been before. “Yeah, he did and I missed out on a ticket at first. The two nights sold out so fast but two days before the concert Claire sent me a link saying more tickets had been released and I bought one. Right in front of the small stage and it was the best one hundred euros I have ever spent.”
Taron enjoyed the smile on her face. “Right so I know you like Hugh Jackman and that you like to bake, that you don’t really sleep and you work with children. I don’t know much else. I think it’s time for twenty questions.”
“Only if I get to ask twenty in return.” Taron rose an eyebrow towards her. “Just because I like your work and enjoy your movies doesn’t mean I spend my days googling you. I honestly don’t know a lot about you. It’s only fair.”
“Ok then. First question. When is your birthday?” Asked Taron.
“Twenty-second May, eighty-eight.”
“Are you fucking kidding me? May twenty-second?”
“Nope.”
“The day Rocketman was released?”
“Yep. I even went to see Rocketman on my birthday, brought my mam with me.”
“It’s destiny Robyn. Definitely destiny.”
She laughed. “Ok well when is your birthday and I can see if I have any connection to it at all.”
“November tenth, eight-nine.”
“Yeah no. Nothing. I have nothing. Guess it’s not meant to be!”
Taron reached over to swot at Robyn but she dodged him, giggling. “Eight-eight?” He questioned. “You are older than me.”
“Older and wiser.” She replied laughing as he went to playfully slap her arm again. “Only by six months.”
“Six months.” He repeated.
“My turn.”
Questions were fired back and forth and while Taron learnt that Robyn hated scary movies, was an only child, could speak Irish and had two degrees, Robyn learnt that Taron would eat anything put in front of him, adored his little sisters, could speak conversational Welsh and had his own degree.
“Two degrees and two diplomas?” He asked.
“I have been studying since I was eighteen. Couldn’t figure out what I wanted to do after college the first time and because what I wanted to do is so bloody specialised I kind of fell into childcare. I literally finished my second degree last year and I am done.”
Taron admired her pure determination to get back up after been knocked down when she applied for the same masters twice and failed to get it both times.
“It wasn’t nice being told we love your experience but your grades don’t encourage us to take you on. I am not an exam person. The pressure of having your entire year graded on a three-hour exam does not suit everyone. My college grades never reflected what I could do. I have always wanted to work with dolphins since I was a little kid and that is heart breaking to hear, that your marks were not good enough. The dolphin therapy diploma for me was giving all those who said I couldn’t do it, or that it didn’t exist, the finger but like I said, the field is so specialised it is hard to get into it. I kind of went back to work with the kids with my tail between my legs after that but then the promotion happened and I felt like I was doing something right and I realised that I was good at what I do, which spurred me to go and get the childcare degree. Worked my arse off, got my one one and once again shoved in the faces of those who said I couldn’t.”
“I love that take no bullshit and determined attitude you have except when you were standing up to those maniacs with guns but I know it is hard to get back when you have been told you are not good enough, or you won’t make it. It’s not easy to keep going after hearing that.” Taron shared some his own experience of auditions that didn’t go the way he wanted.
They moved onto hobbies and interests both talking their experiences of being in choirs since they were kids, both having sang in church and school choirs.
“Ok favourite skill you have learnt from your work.” Asked Robyn.
“Even though I didn’t get to do it on set, learning to shoot three arrows for Robin Hood was a pretty amazing experience.”
“I was in an archery club in college, the first time I went to college.”
“I am telling you Robyn, destiny! But seriously, archery?”
“Yeah seriously. I can’t shoot three arrows but it was good fun. Good responsible fun.” She added. “I shoot with my left hand though.”
“Left hand?”
“Yeah I know. I am one of those people who can use both hands for doing things!” She laughed. “No, my mam is left-handed and I just find things easier with my left and shooting arrows was one of those things. We met twice a week and it was a good laugh. Went to a few competitions too. Now I was never competition material but it was a great group of friends and we had a good time together.”
Taron smiled. “Maybe we need a shoot off as well as a sing off.”
“I haven’t shot a bow in years. Actually, the last time I did was when I was on holidays a couple of years ago and I hit the centre of the target first time. Complete fluke but it made those people watching stop and stare for a minute. I think we will stick to a sing off.”
“I am going to ask you the same question. A skill you have learnt during your years of working with children apart from reverse phycology”
“One of the girls I worked with, who has now left, well she and I could change thirteen nappies in ten minutes.” It was not the answer Taron was expecting and it made him laugh so hard for a good minute before he managed to somewhat control himself. “I am also a master of paper plate animals.” Robyn added with a very serious face which she could only for long as Taron giggled more, her own face changing with laughter. “And am a very good referee and negotiator.”
“Referee?” Asked Taron, still chuckling.
“Hell yes. You have one red truck and two children want the red truck; you learn to mediate quickly. Three-year olds are fierce headstrong little things.”
The changed the topic to allergies, hospital visits and favourite place in the world.
“Aber for me, Aberystwyth in Wales is my favourite place in the whole world. I am not allergic to anything and my latest hospital visit has been my most exciting.”
“Here, my home is my favourite place and I wouldn’t call it an allergy as such but mosquitos love me but I don’t love them and I have no appendix or tonsils.”
“Mosquitos?”
“Ugh I get eaten alive and some of the bites swell. I am sure I have a picture of one on my arm that looked like a swan. I have lots of littles scars on my hands and arms from them too.”
“Lovely.”
“Not so much but yeah.”
“And I think I understand your liquid panadol comment now. You have been in hospital twice?”
“My appendix was horrible. I sat college exams with a rumbling appendix not knowing what it was, sat in A&E for a long time before I was admitted and then in surgery, they realised my appendix had burst.”
“Shit.”
“Yeah key hold surgery turned into proper surgery and an eight day stay in hospital. It wasn’t nice, let me tell you. It was pretty frightening. I reacted to whatever medicine they were giving me and I started to cough up blood.”
“Jesus Robyn.”
“Yeah, like I said it was frightening, I was ok though, just had to take it easy at home after and I have four scars instead of one. My tonsils were nowhere near as complicated. When I started working in the creche, I was ill every six weeks or so with my tonsils so after six months my doctor referred me to a specialist and three weeks later no more tonsils. I have health insurance, so it happened quickly and touch wood…” Robyn tapped her head. “I have been sore throat free since. I have a fabulous immune system though. Working with children, you become immune to almost everything.”
“I don’t think I want another hospital experience like the one I had or any like yours either but I could do with a stronger immune system at times, especially on set. It can take quite a toll on me after a few weeks and I just get run down and ill. Makes my days harder. I just want to sleep but have to be up at five am to get to set.”
“I can only imagine. Your work comes with such expectations and you to be ‘on’ all the time. At least I can hide in the office if I need too.”
“I might come and hide in your office, or actually, maybe I will just hide out here in your garden instead.”
“Even when it’s raining?”
“Even when it’s raining. I don’t mind the rain.”
“My garden is not as much fun when it rains.”
“Well then I can just lay on your couch.”
“I think it might be time for me to change my locks.” Laughed Robyn.
“Don’t you dare.”
Another easy quiet fell between the two, Robyn lay back on her lounger, while Taron did the same on his, the afternoon sun still glorious on his skin. He enjoyed getting to know Robyn and he secretly loved the fact that she honestly knew nothing about him. It was refreshing and he saw that she genuinely wanted to get to know him and willingly shared as much information with him as he shared with her. She was naturally funny and he loved how easily she made him laugh. It was another feeling he was going to bottle up and keep for when he needed a pick me up.

———————————————————————————————————–
“Well, hello Circe…”
Circe's breath hitched as her name was so naturally spelt by Nikki's lips. His face held some smugness to it, he had finally cracked the code he had been waiting so desperately to crack. Her name.
"H-How?" Circe stuttered, shock clearly written on her face.
"Close your mouth, we don't want any flies going into that pretty mouth of yours, babe" Circe's mouth snapped shut after Nikki's comment.
"And... to answer your question, Tommy" as Nikki said that he flopped down on Circe's couch, who hadn't moved from the entryway nor closed the door.
"Fuck" finally, Circe reacted. She slammed the door shut, her eyes rolling at the mere thought of Tommy talking more than he should.
"I'm going to kill that kid one of these days" She muttered to herself, but Nikki heard her loud and clear.
"Well, I gotta say that if I had known that you were Tommy's Circe I would've listened to him more attentively" Nikki said teasingly, but not attempting to lighten Circe's mood.
"Did he also tell you where I live?" she questioned, ignoring his comment entirely as she went through her cabinets in search for her bottle of Jack. She knew it wasn't the best idea after last night's little trip, but she desperately needed the burn of the alcohol to wake her up.
"No, that was Vince, actually" Nikki kept on mocking her distress, enjoying the change in banter.
"I'm going to kill Barbie too then" Circe spoke louder this time, then she opened the bottle of Tequila she found, the large gulp she took made the hairs on the back of her neck stand up straight.
"Circe... hmmm, it fits you" Nikki said to himself after a brief moment of silence, Circe snorted before taking another drink from the bottle.
"And how do you even know it fits me? Hm?" She asked, walking out her small kitchen before sitting on the couch opposite from Nikki. Her eyebrows rested highly on her forehead, inquiry all across her features.
"I just know it does, call it... a sixth sense" Nikki smiled at her, then he took the bottle of tequila from Circe's grasp. Said action made Circe groan out loud and stand up from her place.
"Yeah, whatever. I call bluff on your sixth sense" she dismissed his comment as she took the needle off the record, trying to be as careful as she could to avoid scratching her Bauhaus' vinyl.
Nikki observed her as she gracefully moved around her apartment in search of another vinyl to play. Circe rummaged through the piles of albums, her brain not cooperating with her at the moment. She had no idea what to play and despite how unpleased she was with Nikki being at her place, she still wanted him to like the music meant to fill in the gaps.
After a few seconds of indecisiveness where Circe's brain couldn't choose between Queen's The Game and Siouxsie and the Banshees' Kaleidoscope, she finally settled for Siouxsie. Circe was delicate when placing the needle on the vinyl, she almost looked as if she was holding a breath. Nikki kept on watching her with curious eyes, his interest was rising as he followed her movements. He didn't think she would be into this kind of music, so different from what Mötley played and from what he had caught her dancing to on their last rendez-vous.
Nikki caught Circe smile to herself once the music started. The almost unnerving sound of the instruments added more tension to the atmosphere. And Siouxsie's strangely calm voice gave the atmosphere some edge.
"So, why did you never tell me your name?" Nikki said, speaking above the music without much effort.
"For fun" was Circe's short answer.
Circe looked everywhere but Nikki's direction as she reached for her pack of cigarettes. He, on the other hand, couldn't stop staring at her, clearly tired of the game she was playing. It had been drawn out for far too long, almost half a year to be exact.
"Fun?" he questioned after a moment of silence.
"Yeah, fun" Circe shrugged before lighting her cigarette.
"You had me playing along just because you wanted some fun?" he asked. He was annoyed, but she took joy in that.
"Yeah, exactly. But you can't tell me you didn't have fun as well, can you Nikki?" she answered with a smug smile, finally feeling more in control of the situation at hand. Then, their eyes met.
Nikki's olive-coloured eyes were lit up with a strange mixture of curiosity, surprise and irritation. Said eyes were framed by his dark eyebrows, that had shot up his forehead. Contrarily, Circe's espresso-coloured eyes were filled with mischief.
"It's true, I can't" he answered, leaning back on the couch.
"But it doesn't mean I'm not tired of it"
"Pity, I was enjoying our game. So sad you're getting tired of it" Circe mocked. A fake pout barely covering the growing smirk.
"Might have to get myself someone who can actually play along" she kept on mocking. She took a puff out her cigarette before she grabbed the bottle of tequila, taking a large gulp right after.
"It's not that I can't play along, the problem here is that you're not playing fair" Nikki leaned forward, grabbing Circe's chin between his fingers.
"And you do? Play fair, I mean" Circe's gaze was unwavering as she looked at Nikki, tilting her head to the side.
Circe took Nikki's silence as her answer and such silence made Circe's ego grow a smidge bigger.
She hummed.
"I see. So, what do you propose, Nikki?" Circe said, sitting on the couch and leaning closer to Nikki. Her head was tilted to the side, and her left eyebrow rose in anticipation.
"What do you seek, Circe?" He retorted, avoiding her question.
"Debauchery, destruction..." Circe answered, her tongue quickly running over her teeth, staying a little longer on her sharp canines. Nikki mirrored her expression.
"That's all I ever look for, that's all I'm good at"
"I'm not scared of a little destruction, I embrace it" Nikki stated, equally as intense.
"What are you trying to tell me, Nikki?" Circe decided to play dumb.
"I don't think I need to say anything"
"You don't, but I want you to spell it out for me. Tell me what you want"
Nikki stood up from his seat, Circe following suit. Her heart was racing, the silence that lingered this time wasn't of her liking. She took notice of how Siouxsie's voice was starting to lower in volume, the side A of the vinyl coming to a swift end.
Nikki approached her with long strides and once he was in front of her, mere inches separating them, he kissed her. Nikkis large and calloused hands cupped the soft skin of Circe's cheek, said touch made Circe melt. His lips were chapped, but Circe didn't really care. She was too focused on the non-spoken answer he was giving her with the rough clash of their lips.
It was heated, and probably not meant to last long, but there they were, fighting over who lead the kiss. Who was meant to follow who? No one was truly sure, they didn't seem to care.
Nikki's left hand moved to rest on the side of her neck, he appeared to recall her reaction last time he placed it there. Circe gasped once his cold fingers made contact with the heated skin of her neck. Nikki took this opportunity to sneak his tongue inside her mouth briefly.
Soon enough, they broke the kiss. Their foreheads touched as they decided to stay in their position, so close they could breathe the same air. Circe's eyes were still shut, her heart lingering on the moment they just shared. Nikki observed her soft features, from her plump and reddened lips to her eyelashes that graced the skin of her cheeks.
"Is that enough of an answer?" He whispered, no trace of sarcasm. Circe then opened her eyes, somehow the few strands of gold in her chocolate eyes looked brighter this time.
"I'm not sure" Circe laughed, it was genuine for once.
Then, they kissed again. This kiss was almost feverish, not as sweet as the last. And their kisses only grew hotter as they became more frequent and closer to one another. Soon enough, they were tugging at each other's clothes, their fingers itching to take them off.
The first thing to be removed was Circe's crop top, followed by Nikki's shirt. Circe started to pull Nikki to her room by the waistband of his loose-fitted jeans, using this as her chance to remove the belt that held them in their place.
Then, someone knocked on her door. Circe groaned out in annoyance and she felt Nikki smirk over the sensitive skin of her neck, skin he was kissing and biting in search of her soft spot.
"Ignore them" he mumbled.
"I really want to, but if it's Tommy there's no such thing as privacy"
And then, almost in cue, Tommy opened the door. He was carrying a bottle of Jack and a bag of food meant to be shared with her.
"Hey, Ce!" Tommy said gleefully, his brain not registering Nikki's presence.
"H-hey" Circe said back, adjusting the bra strap Nikki had slipped off.
Circe left Nikki in her room, heading back to her living room. On the way there, she picked up her crop top from the floor and put it on. Once she was close to Tommy the smell of hamburgers made hunger settle in her stomach, she hadn't eaten anything in almost 20 hours, maybe less.
"Oh, fuck Tommy, you're a goddamn lifesaver" Circe moaned as she took the wrapped up burger that he was handing her.
"This is to gulp it down" Tommy said, shaking the half-empty bottle of Jack.
"Yeah, thought as much. I don't think Tequila tastes good with burgers, man" Circe answered with a mouthful of food. Tommy laughed, taking a bite out of his burger.
They kept eating in silence, Circe momentarily forgetting that Nikki was in the apartment until he decided to sit on the armrest of the couch Tommy was sitting in.
"Hey, Sixx" Tommy said, his brain stopping for a minute, finally connecting the dots. Circe wasn't wearing a shirt a few minutes ago and Nikki was just sitting there, shirtless.
"Wait a fucking minute? What the fuck is going on?" Tommy asked, clearly wanting an explanation.
"More like, what's not going on" Nikki mumbled, stealing Tommy's burger and taking a bite out of it.
"Oh" was Tommy's short answer, avoiding Circe's intense gaze.
"I guess I'm leaving" Nikki said as he picked up his shirt from the back of the couch Circe was sitting in.
"See you soon, Circe" and with that he walked out the door, not sparing Circe a glance.
As Nikki closed the door, Circe snapped out her thoughts, the sound of the needle scratching the vinyl finally settling in her brain. She stood up quickly, removing the needle quickly as to avoid more damage. She sighed, glad that there were no scratches to be found. Finally, she faced Tommy, who's eyes never parted from her.
"Yes?" She questioned.
"Nothing" Tommy laughed, taking the final bite from his burger.
"Alright"
Silence.
"By the way, fuck you!" Circe suddenly remembered, he had been the one that gave her name away.
"Why?" Tommy defended.
"You told him my name!"
"I- fuck, did I?" Tommy asked himself, scratching the back of his neck.
"Yep" Circe said, popping the p.
"Shit, sorry" Tommy apologised.
"It's whatever, he was going to find out soon enough" she shrugged not wanting to fight Tommy for being Tommy. She flipped the vinyl and placed the needle on it, the starting notes to 'Christine' filling the room.
"So... You finally finished the painting?" Tommy asked before he took a drink out of the bottle of Jack.
"Yeah, it's in the room drying up" Circe motioned towards her art room, the memories of what she had experienced sending chills down her spine.
"Cool!"
Then, silence. This much quiet was rare between Circe and Tommy. Every time they hung out one of them -if not both- would lead the conversation, but Circe could tell that despite Tommy's initial support, Nikki being in her apartment had thrown him off.
Before Circe could dive deeper into her thoughts, Tommy cleared his throat. Action that captured Circe's attention.
"Are you coming tonight?" Tommy asked Circe, referring to Mötley's gig.
"I'm not sure, I have to go pick some stuff up from work. If I don't think it's too much, I'll probably be there" Circe answered with a smile, Tommy smiled to himself.
"You always have too much shit to do, but you always finish in time, dude. Chill" Tommy noted.
"If you want someone to model your shit you know I'm always available" that comment made Circe's smile grow tender.
Tommy might be too much to handle sometimes, but moments like these made Circe remember why she let him stay in her life; why she ended up in front of the Lee's house after running from her's.
"Well, I better go so you have time to do your shit. Call me" Tommy said, hugging her sideways before leaving.
Circe stayed put, half processing Tommy's departure and when she finally did, she stood up from her place. She grabbed both her house keys and car keys from the countertop, heading out her apartment to her workplace. But not before putting her Siouxsie vinyl back in its sleeve.
The ride to work was longer than it should've been. The roar of her engine drowning out the sound of the busy LA streets. Circe had one hand on her stirring wheel, the other hung out the window. When she got the chance to speed up, her fingers danced with the wind to the beat of the songs playing on the radio.
Once she was a block away from the store she worked in Circe decided to park. She took off her radio, hiding it away to avoid getting it stolen -again. After turning off the engine and closing the door behind her, she headed to the back of the car and pulled out a big duffle bag.
"Hey, guys!" Circe said as she walked in, her co-workers mumbling a greeting back to her.
"Took you long enough, Larson" teased Lu from where she stood, her eyes fixed on the clothes she was putting on the mannequin.
"Yeah, yeah, sorry. But I'm here, right?" Circe shrugged smiling at Lu.
"Whatever. Show us what you brought us" Lu told Circe, taking the duffle bag from her.
Lu motioned to Sarah -another coworker that Circe actually liked- to come closer. Lu dragged both girls to a table they kept around, opening the bag and dropping all its contents on the plastic surface.
The first thing Sarah picked up was an oversized redshirt. Circe had sewn a much tighter frame to it, making it a tight-fitting dress. But, instead of cutting the excess fabric off, Circe had placed safety pins on both sides; safety pins that she had used to lace the front of the dress, simulating a corset.
Then, Lu pulled a two-piece outfit. It was composed of a red leather top and a pair of high-waisted red leather pants. Not a lot had been done to this particular piece, other than Circe making this a two-piece thing and sewing the pants to be a tighter fit.
The next thing to be put on display was a denim jacket. Circe had spilt some paint on it, so she decided to make something out of it. She splattered various colours of paint on it and after realising she had gone a little over-board with the paint on the bottom half of the jacket she decided to cut it two inches below the breast.
Lu's eyes caught sight of yet another leather piece, this time being a trench coat made out of various pieces of leather tailored to be of a larger fit.
The next few items were quickly examined, Lu nor Sarah showing a lot of interest in those pieces. All girls present were aware of how Circe was always asked to do more casual looks, maybe destined to the boring Valley girls that rummaged LA in search of new outfits. So they never really paid much attention to those clothes.
Finally, Sarah and Lu found themselves holding the last two pieces of clothes. These two pieces were designed similarly, both being bodysuits. One of them was made out of an almost translucent black chiffon, Circe had added some lace embroidery over the breasts and on the sides to make it look less naked but still sexy -also it helped to hide the stitches she had used to give more structure to the bodysuit. And the other was made out of matte black cotton, Circe avoided adding details to this particular piece, she decided instead to give it more structure, simulating a corset or hard bodice.
"Well?" Circe asked after the two girls had finished ruffling through the clothes she had brought.
"These are amazing!" Sarah screeched in excitement.
"Please tell us you made an extra bodysuit for yourself, cause you would look so fucking hot, Larson" Lu, teased Circe.
"The boss is going to be so happy, these are going to sell so quickly!" Lu added happily.
"I hope so, I really like these" Circe said, slightly flustered. She might exude confidence most of the time, but when it came to her work it was the other way around.
"We all do, Ce. People are gonna love these" Sarah reassured.
"Now, these are the clothes they're expecting you to revamp" Lu told Circe, grabbing a black trash bag that had been thrown behind the counter.
Circe took a look inside the bag. It was filled with the usuals, big shirts, jackets, leather, ripped clothes and pieces of random fabric. A few ideas popped in Circe's head, already thinking about what she could do with what she was handed.
"I'll do my best, Lu" Circe said, looking up at the redhead in front of her.
"Now, here's your pay. Go, cause they want these thing done for next week"
"And with how many things they expect me to come back with?" Circe questioned.
"At least 6 new things" Lu told Circe. Sarah patted both girls on the shoulder before she left, approaching a customer.
"Fuck" Circe mumbled.
"Okay, okay I'll try"
"I know you will" Lu reassured Circe.
"Bye"
Circe walked out of the store with an empty duffle bag and a full trash bag, a fact that made a couple of people stare at her strangely. Circe opened the trunk of her car, she threw both things there and then headed to the front seat. She sat down, exhaling with a long sigh. Don't get her wrong, she loved her job, she adored making clothes and getting money out of it but sometimes she just wanted to not care. What made her care? She needs money to pay her bills and she needs money to pay for alcohol and drugs.
The drive back home wasn't much different from the drive to work. The music playing on the radio fell on deaf ears, Circe wasn't really in the mood to pay attention to it until she recognized the starting notes to "Start Me Up" by The Rolling Stones. Then, she turned the volume up, her head moving to the beat and for a moment she forgot all of the shit she had to do.
Circe entered her apartment with a heavy sigh, the trash bag made her arm muscles tense. She threw it by the coffee table, deciding that she would eventually get to it. Then, she sat on her couch facing the mess she didn't care to clean up before heading to the shop.
I'll do it later, she dismissed before she laid down on her couch and fell asleep.
When Circe woke up, it was nighttime. She looked around herself with a fogged-up vision, her eyes roaming the room in search of the clock. Idiot, you won't be able to see shit with the lights turned off, she mentally hit herself over the head before standing up, heading towards the lightswitch by the door. Once she found it, the room was lit up and she finally read the clock: 2:10; how does she manage to sleep this much? A mystery, truth be told.
She huffed out, staring at the pile of clothes she was meant to fix and then her eyes diverted to her room, Tommy's invitation popping up in her head. She might have missed their set, but there was still some time to party.
Circe quickly went through her clothes, pulling out the bodysuit she made for herself and a black bandeau. She took off all her clothes, throwing them to the corner of the room; then, she put on the bandeau, adjusting it to fit her better. Over it, she slipped on the bodysuit and then the high-waisted shorts she'd been wearing earlier that day.
She looked at herself in the mirror she placed on the closet door, she adjusted the turtle neck of the bodysuit and centered the large peek-a-boo that left her chest exposed. Then her hands travelled to her hair, it was messy and uncombed, her usually wavy hair lacked definition; she groaned, realising she had no other option but to put it up in a bun.
Next, she applied eyeliner over her eyes, blending it carefully with her fingers. After that, she brushed her eyebrows and applied her characteristic maroon lipstick. Circe took a last look at herself on the bathroom mirror, a smile tugging at the ends of her mouth.
Circe walked out of her apartment and as she locked the door a gust of wind sent chills down her spine, she stayed put for a while to enjoy it. Now, she headed to the boy's place not bothering on taking the car, they didn't live that far anyways.
The walk there was short but enjoyable, and once she was closing in on their apartment complex she could hear the music they were playing, as it got louder a heavy feeling settled in the pit of her stomach. Nerves?
Circe blurred out the rest of her walk, and before she noticed she was stepping through the open window, most people not sparing her a glance, until...
"CE!" screamed an over-excited Tommy, then he moved people out of his way to get to her. Once they were face to face, he hugged her tightly. A puppy, she tenderly thought to herself.
"Hey T" she said as soon as he put her down, attempting to match his enthusiasm.
"You know where you can find the booze and the drugs, Vince is probably fucking in the bathroom, Mick is sitting at the table and Nikki..." Tommy's rambling was cut short when he realised what was Nikki doing. Circe only rose an eyebrow.
"... Yeah?"
"I don't know, he was right there," he said pointing at a random place.
"You know you're a terrible liar, right?" Circe said with a small smile, it didn't take her long to find Nikki -his hair gave him away- being straddled by some blonde. Tommy stared at her expectingly, but she just shrugged.
"Meh, whatever" was Circe's reassurance to Tommy's none spoken worries.
Tommy, being the lovesick boy he was, expected more of a reaction from Circe's behalf, especially after finding Nikki in her apartment earlier that day. He stared at her as she shrugged heading towards the display of alcohol on the countertop. Tommy felt frustrated, despite his initial awkwardness, he kinda enjoyed the idea of two of his best friends together.
Circe looked around herself, pondering on what to drink to get rid of the idea of Nikki and the blonde bimbo. Screw it, she thought before uncapping the bottle of vodka and pouring the translucent liquid in a cup she found laying around.
"Well, well, well" said Vince as he approached the brunette, making her snort out a laugh.
"Hey, Vinnie" she greeted, squishing his face with her hand.
"Didn't see you drooling over me tonight" he teased after Circe let go of his face.
"Two things: 1) I don't drool over you and 2) I didn't see your set tonight" Circe pointed out with a smile.
"Ah, you love me anyway" he told her, pulling her into a hug.
"Whatever you say, Barbie"
Then, Circe pushed him away, mumbling something along the lines of you're sweaty and you smell like sex, making Vince laugh.
"I see Nikki hasn't approached you tonight"
"Just got here, Vince and he clearly has better things to do"
Vince hummed and bit down a laugh. "Way better"
"Hey!" she hit Vince's arm playfully, "that's mean!"
Vince shook his head but laughed.
"C'mon, let's sit down for a moment" as he said that he held her hand and dragged her to the band's dining table.
"Mick, you know Circe. Circe, you know Mick" was Vince's quick introduction. Both Circe and Mick nodded their head in acknowledgement, she could tell he was a man of few words.
Time passed quickly, and Circe never really engaged in a conversation, she spent most of her time listening to other people's conversations or laughing at the stupid things the boys did to impress the small crowd that had gathered in their apartment. And yes, Nikki never approached her.
Strangely enough, Circe had stayed put for far too long and she was aching to move, her leg bouncing up and down and her fingers drumming random beats on the table. Tired of sitting down and only standing up to refill her cup she headed outside for a quick breather.
"Hey, T!" She yelled over the music, Tommy turned around to look at her, his mouth open and twitched as if he was saying: what?
Circe took two of her fingers and moved them as if she was smoking, making Tommy understand what she was asking. He nodded and threw his cigarettes to her.
Now, she stepped through the window, already pulling out a cigarette for herself, lighting it with the cheap lighter Tommy kept inside the pack. She leaned on the wall by the door, the cigarette barely leaving her lips, dangling in its place as she inhaled and exhaled the smoke.
"Hey, do you have a lighter?" A blonde girl said, breaking her out of her daze.
"Yeah, here let me help you" Circe said, flicking the lighter and getting the flame as close as she could to the girl's cigarette.
"Thanks" the blonde stayed quiet, but not for long. "So, do you know the band? I saw you sitting with them!"
"Something like that"
"Oh, something like that? Are you fucking one of them or something?" the unnamed girl teased, playfully digging her elbow in Circe's ribs.
"Something like that" Circe mumbled, but it looked like her answer never reached the girl's ears.
"I mean, you're like, really hot! I wouldn't blame them, hey! Even I would fuck you, girl" The blond then placed her hand on Circe's shoulder, dragging it up and down as a coy smile reached her lipstick-stained lips.
At that comment Circe's eyebrows rose, a smirk disguised as an innocent smile slowly appeared on her face. Circe then took the girl's hand in her own, tightening her grasp in reassurance, almost as if she said thank you. But as Circe started to close the space between them someone broke the comfortable atmosphere they had settled in.
"Hey I was looking for you"
Nikki.
"Yeah, just came out for a smoke" the blonde stated. Nikki offered her a hand and led them to the window, letting the girl walk in first and never directing a word to the brunette.
Circe smiled to herself, the smirk was subtle but very much present. She waved at Nikki as he went through the window, his gaze never leaving her as he took everything in. From her stance to her looks, and then, he saw that recognizable glimmer of mischief.
Fuck.

Your Name: Jess Your Age: 20 How'd You Find Us?: Don’t ask.
Full Name: Jackson Rhodes Nicknames: - Jax. - Jackie. - Roadie. Date of Birth: 12th of August 1984. Age: 26 Gender: Male Occupation: street magician. Sexual Orientation: Straight switch.
Animal: Cougar. Power Level: "Beta" Alpha. Mindset: Domissive. Rank: Manabozho.
Animal Appearance:
Jackson’s big for a cougar, just a little over “average” size. Weighing in at 210lbs in cougar form, he’s almost as big as a jaguar, only a lot less muscled, and almost 6’ in length. He’s covered from head to tail tip in dark and thick honey colored fur that keeps him insulated from the cold.
Hybrid form
Jackson knows about his hybrid form, and even though he rarely uses it, it’s still something in his arsenal should he ever get into a fight and he needs a little more juice. Standing roughly at 6’8 tall and weighing in at 240lbs, the furred cougar-man form is build for speed and combat. He’s got retractable claws that can cut through skin like a knife like butter, and paw like hands and feet, replace human hands and opposable thumbs leaving him in a mess if he needs to open anything fiddly. When he’s in this form, he’s covered from head to toe in dusty gold fur that darkens in patches and things out across his abdomen.
Human Appearance:
Standing at an even 6 foot tall, Jackson is your average looking bloke. With shoulder length brown hair – that he hasn’t cut since he was twelve! – Which he keeps away from his face by just raking his fingers through it and an almost continuous five o’clock shadow that sometimes, Jackson forgets about and lets it get a little thicker, can almost be described as rugged, and that doesn’t take your fancy, grungy at the very least. The pale tawny skin, stunning hazel eyes, full lips, yep, Jackson knows how to use it all to his advantage and yet he doesn’t. As for his clothing style, Jackson is very laid back into what he wears, though there is a vane streak in him that he always tries to hide behind his temper. He likes to wear suits and won’t admit it, so more often or not, he will settle for clingy dark jeans, dark coloured shirts or t-shirts, often accompanied by a leather jacket for just an open shirt over a t-shirt. With a little bit of practice, he can pull off different styles though. As for jewellery and accessories? He’s not really the type to wear them all the time, but if you count a platinum thumb ring, a wallet chain, and a gold crucifix as fashion accessories, by all means count that as something Maddox will always wear.
He’s got into his fair share of scrapes over the years and that’s given him a nice but small collection of war wounds. The biggest scar that he has is a three inch scar on the inside of his thigh from a bar fight that got out of control when he was human. A couple of inches higher and the broken bottle could have nicked something important. He has a self done tattoo from when he was younger, it’s on the inside of his wrist and all it says is ‘carpe diem’ in small black letters.
Face Claim: Taylor Kitsch.
Strengths:
• Get's the "job" done at the end of the day. Whatever the task may be. • Listens to people, despite what people say. • Knows when to keep his mouth shut around alphas. Barely. • Fast on his feet in both forms. • Some street smarts. • Working on the fly. • He likes pain, uses it as a focus at times. • He doesn't give into his violent nature easy. • His animal instincts. • He doesn't care if he lives or dies much.
Weaknesses:
• Always needs to feed after a shift. • His half and half form takes too much energy and can knock him on his butt for hours after. • He's got a bit of an issue with authority figures. He's working on it! • Silver…it hurts like a…well, you get the picture. • Pain, after all there is a fine line between pain and pleasure. • Attractive females. Point in case with Isabella. • Children. If one's hurt because of him, he'll kick himself. • Magic tricks. Curiousity and cats...Ya know how that goes. • He has too kind a heart at times and it's gotton him hurt. • His flair for drama at times.
Likes:
• Practising lock picking. He’s yet to find one he can’t unlock. • Gambling for something better to do. • Drinking instead of talking. • Smoking. He smokes more when he's nervous. • Sex. Oh hush your face. • Tinkering with his truck. • Keeping in contact with the Catamount. • Swimming. • Climbing trees and the like as a cat. • Fish and chips. It beats cooking. • Music over silence. • Magic tricks. • Pissing off idiots to see when they'll snap. • Sleeping the day away when he can.
Dislikes:
• Having nothing to do. • Crowds. He panics a little and stays to the edges. • Having to keep Izzy out of cougar business. • Getting dragged into things that don't concern him. • Football. He's never been a fan of sports really. • Things over his nose and mouth. • RPIT cops! Or any kind of law really. • Uncalled for clan challenges. • Idiots that think they know it all. • Bad sex. Eh...Yeah. • Having no cash. • Morning TV. • Tea. There's just something wrong with it. • People that hurt others for the hell of it. • Sleep! Yeah, he's just a bit odd.
Personality:
Jackson isn’t the most trusting of people, preferring to keep his mouth shut at times and eyes open. It isn’t that he’s got nothing to say, he’s got plenty to say, he just doesn’t know how to communicate what he wants to say half the time and it annoys him. It’s a problem, but he’s slowly working through his communication issues. A little jaded and used to getting the short end of the stick, he’s become a good people watcher and likes to take a guess on what people are thinking by simply watching their body language. It doesn’t mean that he’s always right, just a little paranoid. And besides! An attractive face can be his downfall too you know...
I suppose you could say that he’s very loud in his own way. He has a bit of an anger issue sure, but that doesn’t mean he can’t be fun. Jax has a habit of putting himself in tricky situations and mouthing off at the wrong people, and more times than enough, getting his ass kicked. He’s been told that he’s anti social, ok he can roll with that. Still, most of the time Jax uses actions instead of words to get his meaning across and that suits him quite well.
He can be sarcastic, and charming and even violent at times, Rhodes has been known to lash out and think about his actions later. People have questioned his decision making skills before, and he’ll always tell people the same thing, he works on the fly. Jax would rather someone say a silent thank you to him, instead of drawing it out as displaying emotions isn’t one of his strong points and expressing what he wants to say is hard for him. He can do touchy feely well enough but that doesn’t mean anything if there is no feeling in it. To give the sarcastic, slightly flirty male his due, he does have a nasty streak running through him that demands he causes drama some times.
Some things just really annoy him, while he keeps away from people normally; he won’t stand for someone abusing those weaker then themselves, or power. That’s when his protective streak will kick in and he’ll lash out in anger against those that cause the pain and misery. When he lashes out and loses his cool, Jax won’t regret that he did anything, even if he’s punished and humiliated, he’ll take it all with a smirk. Earning his trust and respect is a hard thing to do, but once someone does earn that, there is no way in hell Jax would willingly walk away from them. He’s a survivor and does what he needs to do, he doesn't care what people think of him. There is no better way to describe him.
History:
Jackson Rhodes was born to Linda and Clayton Rhodes, in the city of London, mid April in the year 1984. He was a surprise birth, as the doctors had told his parents from the start of their marriage that Linda could not bear any child in her womb, and being an old money family, they saw every doctor that specialized in that area, no matter the cost. As it was, Jackson came into the world kicking and screaming like any other normal healthy baby.
Growing up the spoilt child, he stoically bared the love of his smothering mother even though she made him want to hurt things. A desperate housewife to the extreme, that’s the easiest way to describe his mother. As for his father, well a workaholic that liked to stay late and make sure everything in the import and export company was running smoothly before coming home and smothering his son almost as much as his mother, well it was an odd childhood. Though from the age of three, Jackson had picked up a liking for magic, and as he grew from a little boy that would hide behind his father’s legs when extended family came to their small estate just outside of London, well into the country that they could have peace, but close enough to the city that they had everything they needed and would be close to work if there was an emergency.
Now many people would have gotten him out there, meeting children his own age, his parents treated him like the boy in the plastic bubble in that respect. Now that was what caused him to rebel against what he knew, he put himself out there, flatly refused to go to any posh school that only taught things that would get people nowhere in real life, instead he opted to go to a normal secondary school with normal children. Rhodes never lost his flair for magic tricks, and would practice them anytime, anywhere, whenever he could. For that alone, people thought he was an oddball (and he is, but we won't go into that here). That simply washed over the young Rhodes, his teachers encouraged him to keep up with something he obviously liked doing, and they had no reason to complain as he was a level student in class. As smart and as clever as young Rhodes was, he didn’t see the day when his father messed up royally loosing the family business to a rival company.
Well it wasn’t the end of the world so to speak, he his friends, his talents, everything would be ok. Yeah, ok Jackson looked at this like any young adult would like their parents were going to split up. He saw it as his fault. His bright innocence turned into something colder, and he accepted it as his grades plummeted and he began to drift away from his friends. For a year, as his antics became erratic, he stopped acting the fool and dropped the magic show that he’d lived in most of his life. Around year ten of secondary school Jackson began to drift around life with a new group of friends. These truant friends taught him new magic tricks, somewhere in him he knew that it was wrong to boost cars and steal from the back of open vans, but he did it anywhere, determined to help his family out of the ever expanding abyss. When he turned up at his father’s study one day with seven grand in cash from his new extracurricular activities that he’d hidden from his parents for nearly three years, his pop hit the roof demanding where Jackson had gotten the cash from.
The little boy in him cringed at the sight of his father so angry, but he didn’t back down from offering the cash even when his mother came in and decided she’d bite his head off too. After a long and boring screaming match, he walked away from them both having tossed the money up in the air and headed to his room. Within fifty minuets, he was walking away from his parents for good with a duffle bag over his shoulder holding things he’d need. The heir to the broken family fortune no longer.
He flat to rent in lower east London, and any idea that walking away from his family had been a rash decision flew the coop as he embraced a seedier nature that his high school friends had began to cultivate, though surprisingly he began to take up magic tricks again, unknowingly needing it as a safety blanket. By the age of twenty one, he was stealing, drinking, smoking, whoring, and oddly enough performing children’s parties, saving what cash he could in various accounts and selling on anything he stole before the cops could poke their noses into any “business” dealings.
That was when he met her, she was a wolf in sheep’s clothing, or rather a cougar in a black velvet mini dress on the hunt for dinner. A sucker for a pretty face, and long legs, the cold Rhodes flirted ignoring his friends as they heckled from somewhere behind the two. Chemistry between them was as clear as day, and both took off back for Jax’ place. The sex was great! He did have doubts when she said she was allergic to latex, but one thing led to another and safe sex was drop kicked out of the window. He didn’t even mind the fact she clawed his back up when he found her and the loose change in his wallet gone the next morning.
His fate was sealed and though he didn’t know it at the time, so life went on. When the next month rolled around sluggishly, he began to feel odd, like something inside him wanted to get out. Putting it down to a bug he’d caught, Rhodes cancelled the three shows he had the following week and locked himself away in his flat, even calling his friends and telling them not to show up unless he called. The night of the full moon rolled around, Jackson went to never, never dream again land, as his body changed into that of a cougar. It’s safe to say he put it down to his body needing to heal and kick out whatever was invading his system, which he had simply slept the time away.
When it happened again, and again, he began, he ignored it, until one day, he passed out in front of a camcorder. He’d been practising a new trick, and had always used some kind of recorder so he could watch himself over again. When he saw a cougar in his place the morning after, he hit the bottle and shrugged it off figuring it was a bad dream…
A bad dream that he’s lived through for just over four years, it forced him to move out of London, and being no good with choosing things, he put a pin in a map, and Bobs your uncle, Fanny’s your aunt, that pin landed on Jackford. He has a few secrets of his own, and he can tell the residents have their own troubles. Though one little leopard has won his attention and he can count on her.
Ghostin’
Tom Holland x Fem!Reader
Request: Lmao no. {Based On Ariana Grande’s song Ghostin.}
•Warnings: Fluffy, angst & swears.
•Summary: Y/n has thought after breaking up with her 3 year (ex-boyfriend) she would learn to love Tom the same. But she knows she's hurting herself and Tom when she just can't get him out of her mind.
•Word count: 2.5k
A/n: Haha, yes more angst; but also floof. I love Ariana’s new album, so imagine central~
Listen to ‘Ghostin’ -> HERE ~ This imagine has none of the lyrics in it, It doesn't follow the song chronologically <33
Your head was raking through all possibilities, how could he just do this; did all those years never matter?
‘We need to break up’ Those 5 words echoing through your head on a never-ending loop.
“Why?” You choke out, tears running down your face as you stare at the man you thought you would eventually marry.
Your heart ached like it was actually breaking in half, of course you’ve experienced past relationships coming to an end but this one? This was the worst you’ve ever experienced. All those years of fond memories, ideas of the bright future you had with each other came crumbling down all in one day. You begged that this was all a dream, prank, hoax or anything else but reality, you wanted this to be fake, every moment. But of course, life has to torture you with this, dropping the man of your dreams for you, only for him to walk right out of your life. What you needed to know was why? Why all of a sudden it was over, all the years thrown away for what? Your eyes begged him for an answer you needed to at least calm your mind, you needed closure for this to all end. But you never got it.
“I’m sorry Y/n, I just can’t do it.”
“Love!” The voice broke you out of your thoughts, you turn to see your boyfriend on the other side of the kitchen island.
“Huh? What?” You jump in your seat, pushing your thoughts to the back of your head.
“You were spaced out for a good few minutes.” Your boyfriend informs, before walking around and placing a mug in front of you.
“Thanks, Tommy” You say, pulling him down towards you to place a light peck on his lips.
Tom Holland, your boyfriend of 3 months; though somewhat a new-ish relationship everything has been doing great until yesterday.
The day before you had bumped into your ex, Simon in the city. You had been out with your friends Zendaya and Laura, when a familiar lanky figure had tapped your shoulder, ever so casually. He went straight in for a hug, that you awkwardly reciprocated; he acted like nothing even happened a year and a half ago. It took you over a year to finally put yourself out there again and that when you met Tom. Z and Laura had gone off to the bar, thinking you had just run into an old friend; but you wanted them to help you out of this situation so badly. It was so weird seeing him again, your heart wavering; thinking about your previous relationship.
“Simon!” You hear a feminine voice call out over the loud chatter.
“I should get going, but it was good seeing you again Y/n. We should catch up sometime, numbers still the same; if you need a friend.” He offered with a smile, going in for another hug.
“Yeah, sure. I’ll text when I can.” You lie before he pulls away and turned; walking to whoever he was with.
“More like never.” You say under your breath to yourself, before rejoining your friends.
“What were you thinking about love?” Tom asks, the sun setting behind him; creating such a pretty sight with the warm colours.
“Oh, nothing important...Just some girl stuff with Z.” You lie through your teeth, hoping he wouldn't catch on.
Tom just nods his head as he takes a gulp from his mug, before standing up and placing the empty cup in the sink.
“Stay the night?” He asks casually, it was a common occurrence that you stayed at Tom’s almost all day but tonight felt different.
“Not sure for tonight.” You calmly reply, trying not to arouse suspicion.
“Why not?” The brunette questions, turning your chair to face him; craning your head up to look at your handsome boyfriend.
“C’mon love, how can you turn down cuddles? If you don't want my cuddles, there's Tessa too!” Tom jokingly persuades, leaning down and sloppily covers your face in kisses.
You laugh at his antics, how could you ever say; no’ to this man. You give a monotone ‘okay’ to play along but your gloomy act was cut off by Tom pulling you up from your seat and straight into a kiss. Your heart aches with love, you're so glad you met Tom but there was a dark feeling gnawing at you. You couldn't shake it off but you knew that you want to be with Tom, if it were anybody else, they wouldn't even last a day.
~
Nerves raked through your body, you are unsure why but you had a gut feeling it was because of the run-in with Simon. You slide into Tom’s bed, his room dark except for the light shining through from the bathroom where Tom is prepping for bed. You felt memories flooding back, eyes glossy thinking back to it. You turn around so your back would be facing Tom, not wanting him to see you like this. You didn't want to worry Tom, you feel like shit already for thinking about all this. It’s been over a year, why couldn't you just let go? Tom knew about Simon, he was there to pick up those, pieces all that time ago. He knew how much it hurt you but he also saw you get through all the struggle, but it has come rushing back. You couldn't help but think back to that fateful day, a year and a half ago. He just left, just like that; no explanation, nothing. Your self-doubt kicked in, maybe you weren't enough? Will you ever be enough? These though overflowed your mind, so much that you didn't even feel Tom press a kiss to your temple and lie back next to you, arm thrown over you and pressing himself against your back, thinking you already dozed off. Before you knew it, tears rolled down your face; you try your hardest not to be loud with your sniffles.
That was the first of many nights of lying right in Tom’s arms but breaking your own heart, meeting Simon in your dreams.
~
Thus the next couple of weeks that you spent sleeping at Tom’s place was the same routine: Think Tom is the best man ever before sliding into bed to a plethora of sullen memories of your ex and finally tears rolling down your face hitting the pillow as you wept quietly in Tom’s arms. You didn't know if he heard, you hoped to god he didn't. You don't think you could live with yourself if he did.
But much to your dismay Tom did hear you, every single night that he held you tightly in his arms. First few nights, he was confused; didn't know what had made you so upset when you had seemed fine throughout the day. But then you started to mumble words in your sleep, words that gave Tom an idea of what you were dreaming of. The couple of times he heard you murmur his name, skepticism hit Tom. he didn't know what was going on with you and your ex, maybe you wanted to go back to him? Tom you all the pain you went through getting over his ass but he also knew how in love with him you were, or maybe are? Tom didn't know anymore but he pulled you closer at nights, holding on tightly; scared of a day to come where you leave him.
~
The light shining through the curtains woke you up on that Saturday morning, you rolled around to see an empty space beside you. You stretch your limbs out before reluctantly getting out of bed, wondering where Tom had gone. But before you went out of his room, you went to his bathroom to clean up your tearstained face; splashing cold water to help with your puffy eyes. When you looked like you didn't just spend the whole night crying, you slowly open his door. When you opened it, you were surprised to hear Tom’s voice from downstairs. He was talking to someone else, it was so early on a Saturday; who would be calling your boyfriend at this hour? Just as you were about to walk down the stairs, your ears perked at the sound of your name.
“I don't know what to do about Y/n.” You hear your boyfriend confess to who you have discovered is Harrison.
You shouldn’t be eavesdropping but you couldn't help it, you heard your name and now you were intrigued. There was a short silence, where you thought Haz was replying.
“I j-just think about the times where I helped her get over him, only for her to go back through it. Why does she just ghost him? Literally, ignore the problem” Tom’s confession hit you like a bullet straight through your heart.
He knew, Tom knew, your boyfriend knew that you've been thinking about your ex. You felt like utter shit, you could imagine how awful Tom feels about it.
“I don't know what to do Haz... I’m literally just waiting for the day she leaves me now.” Your boyfriend pours more salt on your wounded heart.
You didn't deserve Tom at all, tears ran down your face; you couldn't hear anymore, you didn't need to hear any more. He did it so well, hiding the heartbreak I cause him; he’s too good for me. I’ve put him through more than one ever should, I hate myself so much that he couldn't even admit that it hurts to me. It hurts that I’ve put him through all this, that he doesn't even want to talk to me about it. Sobs escape your lips but come out muffled as you try to not expose that you were listening to his phone call.
You rush back to Tom’s room, being as quiet as possible. Once you are safely inside with the door closed you grab your phone off the nightstand. Clicking onto contacts and scrolling around to find a name, you wouldn't think you would ever text or call ever again.
*To: Simon (ex)*
Hey! You still up for a catch-up? I’m free tomorrow if you are.
~
It was settled, you were going to meet up with your ex-boyfriend tomorrow afternoon at a small cafe in town. The night before you spent awake, tossing and turning in your own bed; no Tom to cuddle and hold you. Tears flowed freely as your boyfriend wasn't there to hear your sobs, though he already knew about it. It made you feel even worse, having your boyfriend know about your cries and thinking you would just leave him. You like Tom so much, with all your heart but there was only one obstacle in your way to change your like to love and you were meeting up with him in a couple hours.
You left your house, keys in hand and ready to face your problem. The ride to the cafe was nerve-racking, you didn't know what was going to happen; you just hoped it didn't end up in broken hearts. You haven't heard from Tom all day either, which put you more on edge.
Pushing the glass door open, you scan the room; seeing the familiar tuft of hair sat at a corner table. Upon seeing you, Simon stood up; pulling you into a hug before sitting back down and signing for you to sit. Awkward exchanges of ‘Hi’ and ‘Hey’, plus a little small talk left you in an uncomfortable silence. Until you decided to just admit to why you wanted to meet up.
“So... I texted not really to catch up.” You start off with, trying to hype yourself to do this.
“I figured.” Simon laughs, sipping on his drink.
“I just need closure? If that makes sense.” You admit, you needed this; for yourself and Tom.
“Ahh, of course. I was an idiot all those years ago wasn't I?” Simon understood where you were coming from, trying to lighten up the mood a bit before it got serious.
“Maybe a little bit?” You joke as the both of you laugh slightly.
“Well, I first want to say I’m sorry for what happened.” He starts off but you just shake your head at him, it wasn't all his fault.
“I think, I was just a coward to admit that I fell out of love. We had our future planned out and I loved you and that life we built but something changed. I couldn't see myself living like that anymore. I know it sounds like such a shit answer for what I left you with but its the truth, but I could've told you all that time ago and we might’ve still been mates right now.” Simon confesses, surprisingly you didn't feel disappointed or angry.
You felt content, yes maybe it wasn't worth all that time to hear this simple answer but finally hearing it come out of his mouth was worth it. You needed this closure, to finally move forward in life. You knew you love Tom, yes you've only been together for 4 months now but you had this feeling for a while now and with thoughts of Simon out of your mind, your heartfelt free.
“Who said we weren't mates right now?” You ask with a bright smile on your face.
It felt good talking freely with Simon, chatting about our current relationships. Though it was kinda awkward, you realise gushing about Tom could become your new favourite hobby. You learnt about Simon's girlfriend as well, the girl who called for him at the bar; Talia was her name and you would be glad to meet her. It might seem weird, a pair of exes getting on with each other so well, but that was your relationship. You could never hate each other, you surprisingly are taking everything well. After your long chat and catch up with Simon, you head straight to Tom’s House; there was something you had to tell him.
~
You practically skip up to his doorstep, a giddy smile permanently plastered on your face. You excitedly knock on his door, impatiently waiting for him to open the door. Once the door opened, revealing your handsome, confused boyfriend; you wasted no time, wrapping your arms around his neck and pulling him into you; lips crashing against each other. You try to convey all your emotions as best as you can, the passionate kiss getting cut off only for the need of air. Your foreheads rest against each other, heavy breathing between the both of you and a cold breeze as you were both still stood at the doorway.
“What was that for?” Tom breathlessly ask, a contagious smile on his lip.
“I love you,” You breathe out, trying to gauge his reaction.
“I love you too.” Tom replies, a bright smile on both your faces before he pulls you into another kiss.
“Now get your cute little butt in here before we freeze.”
That night was spent cuddling your boyfriend you've come to love, no tears left to hit the pillow.

Band Camp Day 6
If you thought our band director couldn’t make things worse, you’re wrong
August 24th, 2019
Day 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 7
I’m tired in many senses of the word:
First some stuff I forgot from yesterday:
Two nights ago the band was super slap happy and the BD was mad about it but maybe if we weren’t outside for a million hours and had actual indoor rehearsal--
The gang and I are showing up later and later to rehearsal and I’m surprised we haven’t been actually late yet
Okay now for today:
Morning rehearsal we just did a ton of halftime. This time the BD was able to fix our mistakes because he had the music, which Highkey confirmed that last night was a waste of time
We had to relearn a lot
Why are we even doing halftime when we barely know pregame
I learned some clarinet tea: someone went to join colour guard at the beginning of the year, got cut, rejoined clarinets, and they’re slightly annoyed
We got to march to the football practice field to “teach” the footballers how to sing the fight song
Basically we marched there in a parade formation (cool, good practice) and played the fight song for them. We didn’t get to teach them at all technically
When we got there, the football coach was hyping up the team, and we couldn’t respond with hype because we were at attention and that was awkward
Then we played the fight song
Then we got to relax and react a bit
Then we played Dance Again, the band’s national anthem
I was in the back, so I couldn’t see it, but apparently there was just a whole heckin mosh pit so that’s cool I guess
I think it’s kinda fun
So then we had to march back
And fun fact: piccs are in the back
So the genius idea was for the band to just turn around and have piccs in the front
Uh bad idea bad idea
I literally said “nonononononono” and I Know some of the piccs heard it
I was on the edge because I’m a Returner (but that doesn’t mean I’m good at marching, folks)
The first line had two people in it because they were the back
So I was guiding to like my line sort of and my made up place
And it’s not my first time being the corner of a parade, but it’s definitely the worst I’ve ever done
Marching back sucked because of me but whatever we made it in one piece
BD: “We’ll do some halftime then pregame” *we only do halftime*
Lunch!
Half the piccs got together to do a Pokemon Go raid before going back to band and it was pretty fantastic
So the plan was sectionals at 1:30 (after lunch) but it got changed to “Meet in band room first”
It was to put away chairs and stands
Then sectionals
But here’s the deal
Our section leader was really sick
So she wasn’t there until then
Me, texting her: So sectionals are happening, but only come if you think you can Two seconds later, the piccs: Can you text NSL Me: Just did
Us, getting into the sectionals room
Me: Listen up, piccs. Naptime until NSL gets here
We ended up napping for like twenty minutes
NSL got there, and one of the fish piccs was like “Do we have to get up” and NSL straight up said, “No keep napping” and let us go for another fifteen minutes
I was on instagram the entire time because I hate sleeping and naps
But then I was accused of sleeping and I’m still lowkey mad about it
Even though plenty of people stood up for me asdfghjkl
Then we started sectionals
I definitely had a piece of white chalk because I was gonna draw on the chalkboard (I didn’t so I didn’t wake people up)
The chalk was at the board, but I accidentally carried it back to my seat on accident
So I started drawing on myself
(I’m not white)
And I sit in the back so eventually the piccs turned around and were like “[cpb] wtf” “I’m trying to blend in”
Which has the same vibes as when I stole Roommate’s sunglasses (she was up front but her stuff was still in the back) and then was messing around on my phone and it must have been a Look because when the piccs saw they all were like “??????”
NDL noticed almost immediately and gave me a Look
that was like the second day of band camp whoops back to today
Finished sectionals, immediately back to the field
Many pregame
Finally
There was a car parked on where we’re supposed to enter the field so that created Issues
The owner of the car is this one guy who’s,,,, in band? Not in band?? none of us understand
He’s this older dude who fills in spots, but he has a nametag like the rest of us and everything, so
I dunno but he didn’t move it so we were Messy getting on the field
Our drum major brought her dog and her name is Coco and I love her
Technically this was the end of the day (shortened day--ended at 5:30)
We did noncompliance dances, which was some song about cows
One of the returning piccs lives on a dairy farm, and she was very into the song--it was hilarious
yes a member of GB
We didn’t sing, though--not yet
So then our band pres got in front of the band for announcements, and she was like, “Today’s activity is a hike up sugarloaf mountain! We meet here to figure out rides!”
but then here’s where stuff got even messier:
During the week of band camp, we’re supposed to have an elimination block
This is where we get in a block formation and follow commands blindly. Mess up and you’re out. Last one wins
We do it as a band, then just the returners
This is supposed to leave the freshmen paranoid. “Oh no they’re gonna make the freshmen do it” sorta thing
And then you go back to rehearsing as full band without saying anything, effectively confusing the freshmen
We didn’t do this
So as band pres was giving announcements, she said, “We’re gonna march pregame a bit and do an elimination block” so uh that’s spoiled thanks
I sorta get that we have to introduce the concept of it, but we should have done that when we met up after dinner
That entire thing is supposed to be a secret to the freshmen
Especially because of how BD reacted
He was like “Tell them about the rewards!”
And that’s an even bigger secret
So then everyone started whispering “freshman of the year” so surprise: spoiled
So then we completely revealed that, and I had to raise my hand because I was FOTY, and the other two also had to raise their hands but aaaaa
The piccs cheered for me though haha it was sweet
Thankfully, with all of us so tense you could feel it in the air, crash and burn wasn’t spoiled
The fact that we do stuff before sugarloaf was though and it makes me angry
dinner
then the antics
We did a whole band elimination block
I committed suicide--I wasn’t about to do that whole thing
A senior baritone won that
Then it was time for the block that mattered: the freshmen only
Basically the piccs dropped like flies except for maybe two, but they did well
Colour guard won, which nice since they’ve never done that
I should know, I currently have the list
Breaking the streak of only trumpets and drumline getting it one section at a time
Though piccs are slightly annoyed because their DI was a picc and knows the secrets
Then time for crash and burn
What’s supposed to happen is that we set up for pregame, and then they say “returners step out” which effectively freaks out the freshmen
But this time they straight up said “freshmen set up pregame” which ruins that
Then they got to the final block and were being yelled at to stay in set
Then the SL for the percussion gave us their air horn and we went wild
Basically the goal is to get them to break attention
We did a ton of vine references and broke quite a few of our piccs
One of them though was unbreakable so kudos to her, especially since she’s been sick all week and couldn’t do most rehearsals
Picc section has been dying in more than one way
She picks up on stuff so quickly though she’s amazing
Then we went up the hiking trail, hung out at the top, did the senior speeches, got emotional, took some awesome section pictures, amazing GB album covers (that’s what we call our squad pics)
squad piccs
After the senior speeches, we do the cult stuff. Singing the alma mater and fight song. However, before this, we’re supposed to take a pledge--or the freshmen are, at least
However our band pres forgot to get a copy of the pledge, so she had to call the band pres from last year (who graduated) and it was pretty funny
We did the cult stuff first to give him time to send it over
After that NSL called us over to give us a speech and talk about how proud she is of us and dang I love her
I miss mom and dad too, though
The freshmen: Why do you call yourselves gingerbread We made gingerbread houses together,,,, it’s not that interesting of a story
We hiked down
I very quickly figured out that my dinner of Lots of Bread wasn’t quite enough
My friends fixed that real quick
We also played pokemon go this entire time
And uh yeah that’s pretty much the day. I’ve been typing this on and off for two hours so I’m gonna go sleep
But also, another thing from yesterday:
At lunch I misheard someone say something and heard the word “wet” instead. But my dumb brain also took that as slang for “rad” so guess what the picc section says now
Yeah it’s pretty wet
Did I explain that yesterday? I dunno but I wanted to make sure you guys knew because it’s a Thing along with the handshake and I’m excited
Have I talked about the alive, awake, alert, enthusiastic song? I’ll try to mention it tomorrow if not
Have I mentioned how much we talk about vines because that’s still happening it’s honestly fantastic
A new vine reference every five seconds really
Tomorrow is a short day. Expect a shorter post.
