[Chuuya blinks softly, his bresth hitching a little and his brain kinda freezing. Oh. His lips twitch slightly into a relieved smile.] Mmm. Kay.
['So. Maybe I'm not. Fucking up too bad? Shit- that was such a fucking over reaction, wasn't it? God, Dazai much think I'm beings fucking stupid. He's not. Leaving though. Or- kicking me out. Which. Is nice. I need to- fix that though. That's- not something that can keep happening. Way too much of a reaction.' Chuuya thinks. Unbidden, a few memories start sliding through now. Chuuya, on the roof, crying, patching himself up. Chuuya, hesitating, staring at his door; the lights on and a shadow clearly walking around behind the door. Chuuya, sitting at the island in the dark. Slamming doors. A wine bottle shattering beside him at the door- furious shining red-brown eyes filled with hatred and malice- "STOP FUCKING LOOKING LIKE ME-/ YOURE NOT ME-/ YOU DONT GET TO ACT LIKE ME-/ YOURE HUMAN-/ YOURE NOT ME!!!/ GET THE FUCK OUT UNTIL YOU CAN AVT LIKE YOURSELF AGAIN-/" said in Dazais furious and too loud voice-]
[Chuuya forcibly shuts down that trip down memory lane, his breath hitching slightly. 'No. No. Not. It's fine. It's fine. I'll do better next time. I won't fuck up with Dazai like that. Mm. Fuck. Movie. Think of a movie to suggest watching. That way Dazai won't want to leave.']
[Chuuya hums a bit, still mostly focused on trying to breath. He nods though, absently agreeing. He tilted his head a bit, seeming to be silently wondering if dazai had gotten it all or not, before sighing a bit. His grip around Dazais wrist is iron strong, if a bit loose.]

letters (MV33)
â° max verstappen x childhoodbestfriend!reader â°
summary â it was confusing, even though you were continents apart, you never understood why max never responded to your letters, until you attend the belgium gp to finally get the answers you were looking for. inspired by the prompt, "why did you never reply to my letters?" "you wrote me letters?"
genre â fluffy, the fluffiest fluff i've ever fluffed.
word count â 4.4k
author's note â i have worked on this non-stop for two days, and i loved the way it turned out, maybe one of my favorite works. enjoy reading this as much as i enjoy writing this!!
she was always around max, either from the sidelines or the first person max ran to when he won a race, it was always her. not even his father, even though he held his father to the highest regard, but it was always her.
the little wrinkles on the edge of her eyes when she smiled at him, the way her lips would curl up, or the way she would giggle every. single. time. that he would come and hug her after every race finish. he remembers it all. and the way he would snuggle his face in the crook of her neck and asked her softly after he would win a race, 'did you see me win, schatje?'
she would always smile back with a laugh, 'of course i did maxie.'
it was always about max, her life revolved around him, whether he liked it or not. she adored him and maybe he adored her a little bit more. they were childhood friends, they were inseparable since they were little babies, their mothers being friends made it even harder for the both of them to not be attached at the hip.
she loved being in his presence and he loved her.
the divorce between jos and sophie was hard on max, he blamed himself and his career but she was always there to tell him that it's not his fault. that their decision was their own and she never forgot to tell max that it wasn't his fault, no matter how much they told him that it was.
she saw the way jos had pushed max to his limits, get physical with his own son and his way of escaping that life was run to her arms, she was there tending to every bruise, every wound whether physical or emotional. she was his rock and it was final. nothing anyone could ever say or do would change his name.
"schatje," max had gently woken her up from her slumber, and she stirred awake from his soft voice, she noticed where she was and finally remembered what happened.
max had finished lower than expected and jos had thrown hurtful things about max, she was there on his mother's couch, comforting him and had fallen asleep that way, with max on her lap, "are you sleepy?"
she shook her head, not wanting to admit that yes, indeed she was sleepy, but if max needed comfort then that wasn't a big deal to her, "what's wrong maxie?"
"nothing, you can sleep on my bed if you're tired. i can sleep here," max had brushed a stray strand of her hair behind her ear but she refused, she hated taking his bed because she knew how uncomfortable the couch was, she wanted him to sleep well.
but he wouldn't allow her to take the couch, so they both slept on sophie's couch almost cuddled with eachother because they were both stubborn.
max was necessarily content with how he was living his life right now, but she made it better and that's all he could ask for. was it her smile? maybe her presence? max didn't care. the first memory he could remember from his early childhood was her, and it was etched into his memory like stone.
she was content with being max's rock, she was there to keep him grounded and she too only had memories of him from her early childhood. she wouldn't replace him for the world, he was too precious for anything in this earthly world.
but there was one day, it felt like a bomb dropped on her. her father had told her that he would have to move to korea to continue work, and she didn't know how to break the news to max until a few days before she had to leave.
she knew it was wrong to keep something this big away from max, but she was so stricken with anxiety that she never got the chance to until max came over to her house and saw all the packed boxes with their belongings.
"why didn't you tell me sooner?" max was angry, she could tell, by the way he was pacing around her room, looking at the packed boxes around. max thought he meant more to her than just a measly friend, he felt frustratedâ betrayed almost. why wouldn't she tell him? why would she keep something as big as this away from him?
"why didn't you say something before? why now? why before you could see me race this weekend?" max was raising his voice now, and she didn't know what to do. her eyes turned glassy and those doe eyes max loved so much just looked so sad.
she stayed quiet, a guilty look on her face. she knew max would break from the news, and she knew that it would affect his performance, but she didn't know how to stay, how to convince her father that she didn't want to go, so yet again, she stayed silent in important moments of her life.
"schatje, can you say something? say anything?!" max yelled and she flinches, she didn't know what to say or what to do, she wanted to say something, say anything. but nothing would come to her lips. it was so hard for her when he was angry like this, it reminded her of his father and his father was deathly scary when angry.
a sigh escapes max's lips when he sees her flinch, coming close to her to wrap her in a hug. tears escaped from her eyes as she held onto max tight, "i didn't know how to tell you," she whispers into max's ear but max didn't say anything to that, just held her even tighter and he did not want to let go.
"it's okay schatje, i'm not mad at you. i could never get mad at you, i'm sorry for raising my voice. i just don't want you to go," tears started to escape max's eyes too, he didn't want to see her go. he wanted her to stay, and she did too. but the universe was pulling them apart and there was nothing either of them could do about it.
the ride to the airport was tough, being only fifteen and sixteen respectively. max held her hand the entire time, not wanting to let go, he didn't want her to leave, she was his biggest support system and he couldn't imagine her gone like that.
she was the most scared of the two of them, what if her father never returned to belgium? what if she was stuck there in korea forever? what if she never got to see his pretty blue eyes anymore?
max was the one to ground her, no longer lost in her thoughts, "can you promise me we'll keep in touch? or maybe visit from time to time?" max was holding onto her hands tightly, she felt like they would bruise, she could only smile and nod.
her mother had called her over, it was time to go. she looked at max for what it felt like the last time and left her life in belgium.
dear schatje,
hi, this is the first week that you're gone and it's bene been so hard without you here with me. i forgot that you weren't here anymore and i was expecting to see your face, but when i didn't, i may or may not have almost cried.
i miss you so much. tell me how it is in korea, is it cold? do they have bears there? what about the food? is it good? can you eat it? i heard there's a lot of spiy spicy food there? honestly i don't care about what they have there, i just care about you.
when can you visit again? can you tell me if you're ever coming back? i'm so worried about you there, i miss you... so much schatje.
written with a lot of love, your maxie.
max always handed off his letters to his father, telling his father to hand it off to his mother because apparently they kept in contact and wanted to send it off to the post office on behalf of him.
he just wondered how she was doing there.
it's been months and countless of letters max had sent, and none of them replied. he was starting to lose hope, he didn't want to think that his best friend would forget about him so easily like that, but he held out hope. he knew that she wouldn't magically forget about him now that she was there.
jealousy bubbled within him when he realized that she would be meeting new people, what if she met someone like him? who enjoyed karting and wanted to steal her attention?
no, he couldn't be thinking like that. he loved her and he knew she loved him as much as he did, so he told himself to just be patient, maybe letters to korea took months to reach?
the naviety was almost laughable but he was fine with it. he just wanted to hear back from his pretty girl.
"i do not understand why you keep writing letters to that stupid girl, she doesn't reply to you and all it does is distract you," jos had reprimanded his son, but max was stubborn. he didn't care what his father had to say, he loved all of her, even when she was thousands of kilometers away. he wanted to talk, even when she never replied.
max was in the process of writing another letter, but he never listened to his father, not about her. not about how much of a distraction she's been to his career, he didn't care. he used it as motivation to get better on the track, so the next time she saw him, he would be a world champion, that's what he silently promised to her.
it had been two years, and he hadn't heard a peep back. slowly, he was starting to lose hope but he couldn't lose hope, every single time he would send off the letters, he told himself that maybe it got lost in the mail.
max kept writing though.
max's debut in f1 was explosive to say the least, his interviews would absolutely go viral by the things he was saying in them. he didn't understand why, he just said what was on his mind.
what was truly on his mind was her.
was he not good enough for her? was him being in f1 not enough to impress her? why wouldn't she write back?
oh god how he missed her.
he still wrote to her weekly, it was religious at this point. he never forgot and he always told his father to send them off to his mother and the week after that was always disappointment because he wouldn't hear anything back.
little did he know, she never received those letters.
max had slowly stopped writing letters as he got into f1, he didn't see a point in it anymore. she never replied. she didn't care. letters didn't take years to reach korea, and he finally lost hope.
winning his first championship felt empty, the pretty girl who used to be waiting for him wasn't there for him anymore. of course, he was happy to win such an impressive feat, who wouldn't? but it just... lacked her.
max indeed lost hope that she would ever write back, but never lost hope that she was out there, somewhere, watching him race every single week and beat the shit out of his rivals. she loved watching him race and that's what he intended to do until the day he died, he wanted to impress her, maybe that was his ulterior motive to becoming a formula one driver.
all just to impress his best friend who had lost contact with him for a decade now.
"you need to stop figdeting so much," her mother had scolded her, she could only laugh nervously and stop fidgeting around. she wondered why max never wrote back to her, she had written him letters. did he hate her for moving out to korea and not coming to visit belgium?
she shook the thoughts out of her head, she was here now. for his home race, and for the rest of her life. her father had now decided to move back to belgium, because and i quote, 'i don't want my daughter to lose touch with her culture'.
she was 26 now, and she had guessed that he turned 27 not too long ago. it's been so long since she talked to him and she hoped that the spark that she had been yearning for had not been lost to the passages of time.
getting the paddock passes was not easy, it was a war and a half but she managed to snag some for herself and a friend that wanted to visit belgium and would arrive later on in the week.
"how did you even manage to get paddock passes for us?" heejin, her friend that wanted to visit had asked, she could only laugh and explain how she got them, it was a war and a half. heejin laughed along with her as they both arrived and scanned their passes at the entrance.
"i'm gonna meet my best friend hereâ well it's complicated. i don't think he considers me a best friend anymore, but i still do," she had softly told heejin who was a big formula one fan even before meeting her, heejin raised her eyebrow when she said that.
the both of them were walking down the paddock, passing all of the different team's hospitalities. heejin raised her eyebrow at her friend, who shrugged.
"who's your best friend?" heejin had asked as they pass by the red bull hospitality, she stopped which signalled heejin to stop as well, she looked at the redbull in awe. she hadn't been to a formula one race yet, the closest she'd been was to karting but that didn't bring on the feelings she felt when standing in front of this red bull building.
"well, he's driving the number one car."
"YOUR BEST FRIEND IS MAX VERSTAPPEN?!"
"YOUR BEST FRIEND IS MAX VERSTAPPEN?!"
max had heard a girl yell, he slowly turned his head. he was confused, he didn't have a best friendâ well not anymore. she had moved to korea, all memories of her stuck in his head being replayed all over and over again.
that's all he had left of her.
the other girl shushed the girl who yelled, and that's when it dawned on max. the other girl looked awfully familiar, he couldn't quite place why she looked so familiar but she looked like her, like his best friend.
"shh! you can't just yell that out in public," she clamped a hand on her friend's mouth, "they're gonna think i'm insane!" then the both of them giggled, it did sound ridiculous but now he was curious.
was she back? was that her? who was she with? is that her new best friend? is that her?
as they both walked away, max wanted to run up to them, to ask that one particular girl what her name was. what she was doing here and who she was with but all of that died when he got approached by his race engineer.
then he forgot all about that familiar girl that he saw in front of the red bull hospitality.
max would only get another glimpse of her when it was race day, they were walking through the paddock in a similar fashion, but max promised to himself that he would approach them, that he would ask but there was doubt in his heart.
what if she forgot about him?
she couldn't, right?
and so approach them he did, tapping the girl that he felt was so familiar to on the shoulder, she had turned around and they had locked eyes.
it was as if she never left.
the sparks, they all came rushing back and then his heart started beating out of his chest, he wanted to ask so many questions, why she was here, who she was with, when she came backâ why she came back, why she never wrote him back.
but the only thing that left his lips were a simple, "hi."
heejin was freaking out, she could tell. she knew that heejin was a big red bull fan too, always talking about how the team was dominating and they had the better car. she had heard all about it. but the little dutchboy she left all those years ago was standing in front of her and not-so little anymore and all those thoughts about her girlfriend was forgotten.
he looked the same, but grown and decked out in red bull merch. she wanted to laugh at how innocent he looked when he tapped her on the shoulder to get her to turn around, he looked stupid, stupidly cute.
all of those feelings from when she was back in belgium came back, she almost forgot what it felt like to be around maxâ her max. he looked like he was going to cry when he got a good look at her, that he finally realized that yes, it's her. the one that left him in belgium all those years ago.
and maybe she could cry too.
"maxie?" a familiar nickname slipped from her lips and she didn't get a response back, but a bear hug in return.
god, her scent. it was everything to him. he fucking missed itâ miss her.
"i thought... i thought you forgot about me," max buried his face into the crook of her neck, she too wrapped her arms around max and buried her face into his chest. his voice was so vulnerable, all she wanted to do was curl around him and tell him that she would never.
she shook her head as she sank into the hug, "i could never forget my maxie," she mumbled into his chest, he held onto her tighter. he never wanted to let go, not now, not ever. she was where she was finally supposed to be, right in his arms.
once they got time alone after his race, max had stolen her away from her friend and dragged her into his driver's room, locking the door and pushing her against the wall, slamming his lips onto hers. he had been dreaming about this for so long, his lips on hers.
he didn't want to so sexual with her, no not yet. being in the small driver's room where they couldn't be free out of the public eye wasn't a good place. he just wanted to touch her, hold her, love her, make sure that she knew how much he had missed this.
missed them being together.
her hands instinctively went up to hold onto his shoulders, holding on for dear life as he kissed her softly. the feelings going through him were a mix of nostalgia, longing and love. he loved her for so long and it was so like her to show up when it mattered the most.
he won it for her today, to show her, that the little max she knew still had it in him to win and to impress her even with a world championship under his belt.
she felt the softness and the gentleness that max was touching her with, she knew how much he loved her. how much he care, how much he longed for her touch and she did too, only so much more.
she had so many questions in her, on why he never replied to the letters she sent or why he never sent any himself, not knowing what happened with her letters and why they never arrived properly.
but she didn't care at the moment, all she cared about was that she was safely in his arms, never to be let go ever again.
safe to say, her lips were to the point of bruising that night. max had forbade her to go back home, or to be away from his sight. he had kissed her silly, not wanting to let her go and there she was, settled nicely in his arms.
it's not like she wanted to go anywhere anyway.
the movie in the background was long forgotten, max's lips felt like they were molded for hers. he had waited for her for so long, waited to feel her skin after so long and this just felt right, it felt right when he was with her.
"maxieâ mmhhâ my love, stop," she had to talk in between kisses, max didn't want to let her go, his fingers were basically imprinted onto her waist. she was straddling max as he sat upright and kissed her, so softly. like she would break if he was any harder, even though he absolutely did want to kiss her harder.
max released her from the kiss with a pout, his pretty lips were red and swollen from all the kissing they did. everything in the world just seemed to fade into the background when they were together, like everyone else in this world was so insignificant for their time and they were the only people worthy of each other's time.
"but why? i wanna kiss you, i miss you. i have waited for you for ten years, the least you can do is let me kiss you until you're sick of me," max mumbled against her lips and all she could do was giggle.
god, her laugh, he loved it.
she shook her head and left a final peck on his lips, "because i want to talk maxie, we can't just kiss whatever questions we have for eachother away," she told him but he seemed to think otherwise, she had moved back to put a bit of distance in between them, to make sure max didn't go in to kiss her again.
"oh yes we can, i don't care about the questions, schatje. i just wanna be with you, just like old days, but now it's so different because in those ten years without you, i finally realized what i felt and how i felt for you and i can't wait any damn longer to finally kiss those pretty lips of yours, so please. just let me do this for another three hours and we can talk," max begged as he pulled her closer.
she couldn't imagine kissing for another three hours as they spent the last hour doing it, but with him? she would do it for another life-time if she could.
the both of them later had the serious talk when they were done kissing each other, now wanting answers from eachother. their legs were tangled and intertwined with each other's, not wanting to let go from their skin to skin contact.
"first off, why did you never reply to my letters? i wrote you so many. so many that i lost count, i would always write to you but you never replied, why?" max's voice came out strained, all of the painful feelings from the last ten years of his life were coming out, her doe eyes looked up from where she was, laying against his chest.
"you wrote me letters? i wrote you letters, you never replied. i thought you got too busy with your karting career to replyâ"
"i could never get too busy to reply to you, but i never got any of your letters, schatje," max murmured against her forehead, kissing it gently after he spoke. she hummed a response before it dawned on her, she had always sent the letters to his father's address and she knew that his father wasn't fond of her, even offering her a huge lump sum of cash just for her to stay away from his son but she never accepted it, always choosing to be beside max, no matter what happened.
she looked up and sighed, she knew what happened now, she connected the pieces, "did you send your letters off to your dad?" she asked, and max nodded before it dawned on him too.
"that fucker hid the letters from you and never sent mine..."
she could only nod sadly, but it didn't matter now. all that mattered was that they were reconnected now.
scattered around them were the countless of letters max had written to her and all of the letters from her that he never received, the years of pining, longingâ all of them tucked neatly away into these little envelopes that held all of those unsaid feelings.
a soft sigh escapes her lips, she looked at all of them, there were hundreds maybe. all of them posted to where she stayed in korea but never sent, always kept in a big box where all of his letters were and hers were stuffed in there in a similar fashion.
her heart clenched when she saw how many there were, there were far more many than whatever she sent, even though she did send quite a big sum.
when max had found out, he stormed into jos' house and demanded to ask why he never sent out the letters that he wrote and a big fight broke out, she had to hold of max from physically harming his own father. then they left after given the big box filled with letters.
"there's so many..." she watched in awe as all of them were sorted by date, from the latest to the earliest, max looked up at her with those big blue icy eyes of his, he looked really sad. stuck in his feelings almost, not understand why his father would do whatever he did in the past.
max held her hand gently, pulling her into his embrace, "i have always loved you, even when i was a little kid. i just didn't understand what those feelings were, i just acted on how i felt and being away from you... i just couldn't. so i sent you my love in the form of these letters."
she left a lingering kiss on his cheek, she felt sorry for having to leave all those years ago. she should've fought, should've stood her ground on how much she wanted to stay but she was just a 16 year old kid who didn't know how to, "i know. i'm sorry i had to leave all those years ago."
"don't apologize, schatje. i have never blamed you for leaving me. i have always held love for you in my heart, even if you didn't know it."
"i always knew max, and i still do."
very willing to do a part 2 to this btw, will only do it when requested tho. not proofread, excuse grammar mistakes.

WARNINGS fingering, spit, biting, implied oral f!rec, cum eating
Jakeâs pout got somehow more pronounced than what it already was when you, once again, refused to just take your medicine. Heâd been trying to get you to swallow at least a tiny dose of the sweet fever syrup for the best part of an hour, after every attempt to get you to down any kind of pill resulted in you just hiding them somewhere underneath your cozy pajamas, against your burning skin. He even made sure to pick out a syrup that wouldnât taste straight up radioactive, knowing you well enough to predict youâd make a big fuss about the nasty taste. Yeah, he could picture it right then in his head, how youâd gag dramatically at the smell and just beg him to go get the tablets again.
For how much you hated being sick, you seemed to dislike the idea of getting better quickly even more.
âYou would feel so much better if you just took your medicine,â he sighed, resting the cap filled to the brim with sticky honey flavored syrup on the crowded comforter, careful not to leave it too close to the edge.
âNot even that sick,â you huffed back, trying to wiggle yourself out of the cocoon of blankets Jake wrapped you in as soon as you fell asleep.
âYeah?â Jake looked at you with an arched brow, before pointing his head to the little mountain of discarded, snot filled tissues overtaking your comforter, the ones he was in the middle of throwing away. âThis right here is breeding ground for bioterrorism allegations.â
He stopped you from getting out of bed, securing the warm fuzzy covers around you again. âNo need to leave, just tell me what you need and Iâll get it for you,â he whispered against your lashes, placing a soft kiss to your closed eyelid.
âJust wanâ you.â
âBut you have me baby, Iâm right here, yeah?â he snickered, plump lips thinning into that gorgeous wide smile of his.
He knew damn well what you meant, a frustrated grumble spilling out of you at the thought. Cheeky bastard, of course he wanted you to say it out loud. The quiet part.
âWantâŚmore,â you cranked one of your eyes open, struggling when a droplet from the wet towel on your forehead Jake promptly changed every fifteen minutes slipped in it. You blinked a few times, adjusting to the light in the room before looking over to Jake, his grin still wide and brightening up his whole face, his head turned to the side as he observed you lovingly, a strand of hair longer than the rest tickling the side of his nose.
If Jake had to be completely honest with himself, he wasnât particularly sad at you being a little sick.
Sure, it sounded mean to say out loud. But you were not doing so badly or in any kind of pain that would worry him, and he enjoyed doting on you like this, with you having no choice but to just take his love. Canât blame a man for wanting to take care of his girl, especially when said girl had a streak of refusing to just lay back and let him do the work.
You were always hiding your pain and vulnerability from everyone around you, so he enjoyed knowing he was helping make it at least a little better for once.
Youâhoweverâwouldnât exactly agree that he was making you feel better, definitely not by walking around with damp hair from the shower and intoxicating the air around you with the lingering salty marine and musky notes of the cologne he always sprayed on his fresh change of clothes. A smell you usually related to comfort and home, making your head spin in the best way possible, a whirlwind of anything but pure thoughts crowding your mind.
Jake took notice of the subtle shift in the air around you right away. You had beenâsubtly at firstâlaying down little hints for him to pick up, you craved him. Had been craving him for what felt like forever, ever since you got sick. A nagging hunger that just grew further with every hour he silently ignored it. Usually you would busy yourself with random tasks, keeping your thoughts clear of images of his hands, or his plush lips and how he always absentmindedly licked away at them or howâyou get the idea. But being sick didnât help, being physically weak and needing rest didnât stop your mind from running wild. Made it worse, actually, since you had nothing to do but lay in your bed all day. If only heâd slide right next to you under your covers andâ
âI know what youâre thinking,â Jake interrupted your thoughts, a hint of amusement shining through his smooth tone. You looked up to him hopefully, breath caught in your chest fearing the next few words he was about to say. âAnd youâre still too sick.â
Really not being dramatic, but you thought you felt a boulder crush you right on your chest. You groaned, turning to the other side so you could sulk properly without having to look at Jakeâs stupidly handsome face. A face you would love to ride as soon as possible.
âNo like, you actually hate me,â your voice was muffled by the pillow you were squishing your face against.
âWhat are you even doing.â
âTrying to suffocate myself since my man hates me,â you explained, grabbing the sides of the pillow and pushing them to cover your ears, making Jake erupt in a fit of boyish giggles.
âNo I donât, just want you to feel better first,â he barely whispered, the loving tone making your body feel light.
You suddenly pushed yourself up with your arms to look at him, nest of hair a mess from the speed of your movement, âI would feel sooo much better with your fingers deep inside me right now.â
He looked at you for a moment, really looked at you, assessing what to do in this situation. He too missed your touch, far more than what he was letting on. Even just sleeping next to youâa pillow fortress separating you two by your requestâhad turned out to be too much for him on multiple occasions, finding himself silently sneaking out of bed to go and take care of his sudden little problems in the bathroom.
As if sensing his resolve wavering, you added, âdonât I deserve a little reward?â
âA reward⌠for what?â Jake was thoroughly amused by your desperation. You rarely ever got like this, and he was enjoying every second of it, maybe even pushing it a little farther than what he usually would, ending up punishing himself a little along the way too. But he didnât care, not when he didnât know when the next time heâd get to this would be.
âWell of course! For having fought this fever tooth and nail and having come out of it alive.â
âYou still have a fever though,â he deadpanned. âCould kick your ass right down at any given moment.â
âThat.â you glared at him with all the fake anger you could muster up. âIs such a mean thing to even suggest.â
âDonât you care about me getting sick? Made a scene all week and now youâre okay with me touching you?â
âFirst of allâI only made you keep the pillows between us the first two days. And like I told you, I feel better, so ifââ the words died in your throat as you felt the bed dip underneath the weight of Jakeâs knee. You looked up to him as he slowly got inside the covers, right next to you. His presence felt different, the soft look in his eyes overtaken by something more primal, and you couldn't help but feel like prey under his watchful gaze. It felt intimidating in a way you werenât used to. It made you squeeze your legs together in search of any friction, your already feverish skin somehow feeling even hotter.
âMaybe youâre right,â Jake whispered against your cheek, his nose rubbing for a moment on your skin as he snuck an arm underneath your body, pulling you flush to his side. Even just that single touch sends an electrifying shiver down your spine. âSince youâre fully capable of talking my ear offâŚâ
You reached for his hand wrapped comfortably around your waist and guided it down to cup your heat through your thin shorts, your own hand resting on top of his as you ground your pussy against it.
You took notice of how his breath hitched in his throat, his carefully crafted mask of calmness slipping as you used his hand, the illusion wearing off even more when he tried to hide it with a gulp, his Adam's apple bobbing up and down. You knew he wanted it just as bad as you did, you were just willing to beg for it as long as it got you what you wanted. âIâllââ you audibly gasped when he flexed his fingers just that tiny little bit you needed to be able to feel them press against your fluttering hole. âIâll do anything, just please make me cum.â
âAnything?â he teased you, voice light and airy as he moved the fabric of the shorts out of his way. A deep chuckle tickled your neck, Jakeâs mouth having dipped down do leave open mouthed kisses on the sensitive skin.
âAnything, just⌠please,â you whined, flexing your neck to allow him more space, his tongue dipping to lick a stripe down to the juncture of your neck.
If you hadn't been so deprived of Jakeâs touch up until then, you would have found the way you were grinding up against his hand and moaning in his ear almost embarrassing. But you were desperate, so you couldn't bring yourself to care about how pathetic you probably looked.
Jake though, oh he enjoyed it thoroughly. His cock was stiff in his sweats, almost painfully so, from feeling how wet you were through your shorts. Dripping already and he had barely touched you. You were just so fucking hot.
âYouâll take your medicine then?â He moved his hand from your mound to grip your thigh, ignoring your weak one clawing at his arm in an attempt to get the little taste of pleasure he was giving you back. He kissed his teeth, his eyebrows furrowed in faux disapproval. âUse your words. What will you do?â
âTake my medicine,â you whimpered, looking into your boyfriend's eyes despite the tears aligning your waterline, and finding amusement swimming through his gaze. Little cheeky shit. Not that you were about to complain or anything.
âTheeeere we go,â Jake sang in your ear, placing a soft kiss behind it before dipping down once again and resuming his sweet torture. âYou can be good once in a while.â
You nodded, lips thinning to keep quiet as if any wrong sound would make him change his mind and leave you hanging. The hand that was drawing circles on your thigh came up to hold your chin, carefully tilting it away from Jakeâs mouth as he sucked on a particularly sensitive spot on your skin. He smoothed over your lips with his thumb, coaxing them to part once again.
âLet me hear how good you feel, baby,â he mumbled, mouth still latched on your neck, before taking a strong whiff off your neck. Had you not been so distracted by the wetness seeping out of your clenching hole onto your panties, you would've noticed how his eyes rolled all the way back in his skull at your smell.
His free hand finally slid under your shorts, a gasp leaving you because of how cold he felt. Jake was always warmer than you, but your fever made it so his touch felt icy against your skin. Your back arched slightly when one of his digits parted your sopping folds, your sensitivity heightened by the unusual difference of temperature.
âPoor little thing, sheâs got a fever too,â he giggled into your neck, another digit joining in as he slowly dragged them from your clit to your hole to coat them in your juices. âBut itâs okay, Iâll help her feel better.â
Usually you wouldâve groaned at his stupid little jokes and pushed his face away. But this time, blame his voice being deeper and hoarser than normal or blame your fever, it got you clenching around nothing, cunt feeling emptier than ever while he took his sweet time playing with you.
Your head dug deeper into the pillow, hips lifting from the bed to follow Jakeâs torturous movements, desperate to feel something more.
âSo needyâŚâ he breathed into your neck, going back to placing sloppy open mouthed kisses wherever he could reach.
A yelp left your mouth, eyes you didn't even notice you had closed shooting open when Jake bit down on the junction of your neck and shoulder, just enough to rip you out of the trance you were quickly falling into. He smoothed over the little bite mark with this tongue, a tingly sensation overtaking the pain in a matter of seconds, pleasure overriding anything else.
Jake finally prodded two of his digits into your hole, testing the waters, still careful not to push you too hard so soon. But your reaction was instantaneous, pussy hole fluttering against his fingertips right away, he just had to bite down on his bottom lip to keep most of his noises in. âGod⌠I fucking love it when you act like a little slut.â
Jake was so fucking turned on, he could barely think about anything but your pussy. The only thought in his mind was get her off, make her feel good, get a taste of her sweet cunt, sweet pretty and oh so delicious cunt⌠like a broken record. He felt like he was born for this and this only, as if his mission in life was just that of pleasing you. And to think he had deprived himself of such bliss for even a few days⌠Something in you seemed different to him, almost animalistic, the way you rutted your hips against his hand as soon as he started scissoring his fingers inside you, the way you weren't even trying to hold in your moans like you usually would, mouth hanging open with a string of drool attached to your lips. And this was just from his fingers.
You yourself weren't doing any better, your brain basically turned to mush as you helped Jake get you off by essentially riding his fingers, despite how weak you felt from the fever. His fingers were so long, hitting all the right spots you knew you could never be able to reach by yourself, and his thick knuckles dragged against your walls so deliciously.
âS-so good,â you gasped when he turned his fingers just the right way, hitting the spot he knew had you coming undone in just a few strokes.
The room was filled with the slapping sounds of his palm against your drenched cunt, more and more slick dripping down your thighs and onto the bed with every flick of his wrist, making it all that much more obscene and filthy. You could feel the familiar pressure building up in your tummy, and suddenly the overwhelming need to just grab onto something crashed on you, heavy and almost painful. You clawed at his shirt, eyebrows furrowed in deep pleasure, unaware of the fact that Jake was not facing you anymore.
He looked over his shoulder to the comforter, the cap filled with syrup still there amidst the mess. He twisted his body to grab it, careful not to slow down the relentless pace he was fingerfucking your cunt at. A few drops of the liquid spilled onto his shirt as he took a sip of it, a grimace overtaking his features as he tried his best to hold it in his mouth. You were still a moaning mess by his side, tiny brain turned to putty so much so you didn't even register anything else happening around you, so hyper focused on the pleasure your boyfriend was providing you.
âJ-jake, Iâm so close.â
Perfect timing.
Jake grabbed your jaw to turn your head towards his, applying the pressure he always did to signal it was time to part your pretty lips and take his spit, like the good well behaved girl he knew you to be. And you did just that; immediately following his movements like he had trained you to, tongue sticking out too for good measure. He bent down slightly to aim better. But this time, instead of the slightly bitter taste of his saliva you expected, he let small amounts of medicine fall on your tongue.
You uselessly tried to back away from him, but he held you in place, fingers still working inside your cunt. Nor did he allow you to close your mouth despite your surprised gasp. His hand held your jaw open, grasp getting firmer everytime you tried to break free of it. After all, you made a promise, and he was going to make sure you fulfilled it.
âYou weren't going to take it, huh?â Jake mouthed against your lips once he had made sure you swallowed every last drop of the thick honeyed syrup, holding eye contact with you through it all, fingers never once slowing down their pace. âLittle dumb pet thinks she can outsmart me.â
He smashed his mouth on yours, not so much a kiss as a silencing of any complaint you were about to spit it at him. Those turned to even more whines when he finally brought his thumb to your clit, drawing harsh circles on it as he fucked you to your orgasm. It was almost instantaneous, but you just couldn't have helped it even if you tried; you were so close already, his stiff cock rubbing against your thigh and his pants hot in your mouth but his thumb so cold against your neglected clit
âThatâs it baby, so good for me yeah.â Jakeâs fingers gradually slowed down inside you, making sure you got every last bit of pleasure you could possibly experience from this high. He too was relishing in how your cunt pulsed against his digits, making it harder to move them inside you. Oh he wished it were his cock being constricted like that instead. But that could wait.
You finally felt like you could breathe again, chest heaving to catch in as much air as you could, forehead all sweaty from the exertion.
The sheets were drenched around you, and you couldn't even pinpoint when it had happened, but you could immediately tell you weren't the only one who had made a mess. Your gaze wandered to Jakeâs pants, a very evident stain on his crotch catching your attention. And fuck, if you weren't ready to do it all over again.
Jake looked absolutely divine; hair disheveled and soaked from the sweat, boxers and sweatpants full of cum. A waste truly.
You snuck your hand in his pants, ignoring the loud hiss from overstimulation Jake let out when you wrapped your hand around his cock and pumped a few times, your thumb swiping on his exposed head to collect some of the cum covering it.
Jake watched you, mouth ajar and cock stiffening again right away, as you licked your fingers clean. He slid his own fingers out of your cunt, lapping at them like a man starved, hoping to work you up as much as you just did to him. His heart raced in his chest as you kept looking at him, a little smile playing on your lips.
âThat was soâŚâ you spoke up, giggling when Jake interrupted you by throwing himself over your figure, capturing your lips in an actual kiss this time. A very messy, very wet kiss. Allowing you to savor your own taste mixed with his and sweetened by the medicine.
âI think the word youâre looking for is hot.â
âDramatic,â you interjected. âSo, so dramatic.â
Jake curled an eyebrow at you. âYou were the one acting like itâd kill you to swallow some syrup. And actually, letâs not forgetââ He placed a quick kiss on your nose before pushing you against the mattress further, his entire weight on you. âOhhh no Jake! Please my Jakey! If I donât get your cock right now I will DIE!â
âWell I still havââ
âAnd wonât.â he deadpanned, sensing where you were trying to stir the conversation. âBut Iâve got a few ideas.â
You smiled to yourself, feeling featherlight kisses making their way down your body, with his messy hair tickling your skin every so often. He placed a soft kiss on your mound, whining dramatically when you grabbed a few strands of his hair to stop him. He rested his head on your thigh, puppy-like eyes looking up at you, almost pleading for permission to continue what he started.
âI really donât want you to get sick,â you said, voice coming out in a whisper full of care, your fingertips playing with his hair and enjoying the way he nuzzled his head further against your skin.
âWell if I were to get sick by touching you⌠Iâd say the deal is sealed by now, no?â He placed another kiss on your thigh, teeth slightly grazing the plush skin when you took too long to contemplate whether to give in or not. âActually, I think some of this syrup would heal me right now.â
âJake. Iâm being serious.â
âWhat could I possibly even catch from eating you out that I haven't already by exchanging spit with you? Best pussy in the world disease?â He laughed at his own joke, gaining a roll of the eyes from you. âLet me tell you, the chances of that happening are close to zero anyway. I donât have a pussy but I am the proud owner of a very fat coââ
âYou are downright insufferable.â
âOkay so shut me up with a mouthful of this puââ
The rest of the sentence was muffled against your mound as you pushed his head down, deciding you heard enough for the day. And the week.
âOkay, okay. Go on,â you giggled as you laid back once again, a deep sigh following as soon as his expert tongue made contact with your cunt.

Price:
no matter how many times he cleans the bathroom, his beard hair is everywhere. obviously he keeps that shit well groomed but itâs always somehow stuck on your face after you wash it, or on your shower loofah or towel. and you've tried and heâs tried to clean it and it never works.Â
loves gnomes. you have ones in the garden, the front yard, in your house for EVERY occasion. Iâm talking christmas, easter, halloween, thanksgiving. he has a set for every season and it honestly scares you a little. one year he bought a giant one for your christmas tree as the topper and it made him so happy so you just accepted it.
doesnât like to celebrate his birthday. Heâs so much of a giver he downplays it every year. If you guys have kids, heâll buy something for them ON HIS DAY just to take the attention off. so he kind of hates gifts, but heâs not going to not accept that. Would prefer you donât, even though he bought you a $20K pearl necklace for your birthday. (Youâre still afraid to wear it)
leaves you on heard. all. the. time. you ask him something, like as heâs sitting next to you and just ⌠silence. sometimes he even nods, looks at you and then turns away. youâre not sure if itâs something to do with his hearing or heâs just so relaxed at home he just doesnât comprehend sometimes. âhey, baby, what do you want for dinner?â âmm.âÂ
average dad experience of sharing a hotel room and brother is snoring. you know what Iâm talking about? the cold A.C turning on and off and mf just be out and itâs so loud you have to wear ear plugs. you wonder if he has sleep apnea at some point bc he canât be real.Â
but donât worry, heâs just as loud in bed bed ;) and he makes it known when youâre going at itÂ
Ghost:
too stealthy for his own good and always scares the shit out of you. and heâll try to be loud too, knocking on doors AND still isnât loud enough. He always feel so bad but itâs also so funny to him bc he really does try to not be so quiet.Â
owns the same black t-shirt, like at least 5, but claims one of them is just softer and better than the others. youâve tried them all on and there is no difference to which he mumbled something about you not having the special sense??
cat whisperer. youâll adopt a cat while heâs gone bc youâre lonely and you spend all the time with the cat but no. cat loves ghost more. Heâll sleep on top of ghost, but never you. heâll follow ghost around the house, but not you. itâs very infuriating. and ghost has no idea why bc heâs around 1/2 the time you are.Â
has a whole cabinet for his bourbon collection. and a special glass cup AND special spherical ice for it. he doesnât even drink that often, but it was absolutely necessary (to him).Â
heâs a clean freak. very routine in how and when he does laundry. Bed sheets on this day, dark on this day, etc. he wonât let you do any of it. If he loses a sock, he throws out the other pair. as soon as thereâs a hole in something, he throws it out.Â
nov. 1st is christmas to him. the tree is already up, no questions asks. there are no thanksgiving decoration in this house. he also has multiple trees, one by the entrance, one in the living room, one in your bedroom.Â
has definitely fucked you under the christmas lights by the fire. begs you to wear bow lingerie so he can quite literally âunwrap his best giftâÂ
Gaz:Â
loves the lego car sets. his home office is decorated with all his medals AND the lego cars. has definitely left pieces out that you stepped on and then proceeded to scream his ear off.
begs you to play fortnite with him. you think heâs batshit crazy âthatâs literally your actual jobâ âno but the raging kids makes it fun and we can match skinsâ (he means the banana skins btw) and heâs a troll. he doesnât take the game seriously, he just wants to torture little kids and make fun of you when you canât figure out where the shooting is coming from. or when you throw down a med kit instead of splash.Â
cannot get through a movie without fucking you and itâs always during the good parts so heâs got you in doggy and youâre still trying to watch the movie??
Instigator fr. heâs not toxic but like heâs gonna argue. Has literally once said to you âIâm not arguing Iâm just explaining why Iâm rightâ to which you stared at him and asked if he was stupidÂ
always ask for hot sauce or sriracha at restaurants or if he can get something spicer. he eats buldok noodles with the whole sauce packet and then proceeds to sit in the bathroom for an hour while you scold him.Â
reckless driver to the max. you fear for your life when youâre in a car with him. He speeds (within reason he claims), he makes quick merges and switches lanes fast. he does use a turn signal so you let it slide bc heâs risky but not THAT risky.Â
obviously, he has horrible road rage. youâll be calling him while heâs driving and itâs all normal and then âOI YOU FUCKING SHITE DO YOU HAVE A LICENSE?â you just sigh and then he answers you like normal, âyeah I think Iâm out of toothpaste too.âÂ
saves every selfie of you from snap and his rotating ones as his wallpaper. even the ugly ones you beg him to take out. like any guy, heâll claim itâs his favorite and then itâs a 0.5 of you eating ice cream and itâs dripping everywhere and your eyes are half closed.Â
Soap:Â
leaves sticky notes everywhere to remind himself of things. anything. âneed olive oilâ âmissing one blue sockâ â(Y/N) wants thai takeoutâ âcall ghostâ âlaundryâÂ
and sometimes theyâre not even correlated to where it should be. like the note that just says âlaundryâ will be in the kitchen. and he stacks on top of those sticky notes with more. âdid laundryâ âbought more socksâ it drives you insane
he's obsessed with blankets. He has a designated like basket/bin or blankets in the living room and your bedroom. He sleeps with like three. and heâs got heated ones, sherpa ones, weighted ones, etc. absolutely collects the different printed ones for each holiday.Â
loves to go decor shopping with you, but only because he wants to pick out the ugliest things and see your reaction as you swat at him and tell him to put it back. only for him to sneak it back into the cart and you death glare him.Â
If you need to rant, he resumes the whole âomg girl, period.â personality. he loves gossip and he loves doing facemasks with you as you talk shit and drama about your coworkers.Â
he's so âwait I have to tell my gf thisâ bro will literally be on a mission and gets a cut? âI have to tell (Y/N).â the room exploded? would take a selfie and send it to you, if possible. sees a weird shaped potato at the grocery store? Sends a picture. Falls down the stairs? you're getting a picture of his broken foot. hard? here's a dick pic just for you babe
uses the same hydroflask water bottle thatâs dented, has sticker residue and chipping on all side. âItâs reusable, thatâs the pointâ he claims. you're not sure if heâs ever washed it and you certainly arenât going to open it and find out for him.Â

LADS Men With a Plus Size Reader
Warnings: None! This is actually very fluffy! Maybe PG13 at most! (OMG NCS, no smut?!đ˛đ˛đ˛) A/N: Finally, got around to writing one of the promised headcanons! Now, allow me to be clear here. The amount of customization the game allows is incredible but MC is a little bit on the smaller side, and I would have loved to see an option for a more robust body build. The same way there are naturally thin and petite women, there are also bigger and more rounded women as well and I think there was an opportunity lost there. Anyone that tries to hate on this will be blocked immediately.
Zayne:
Zayneâs large hand envelopes yours as you walk to the cafe heâd recommended. You knew it was popular amongst the hospital staff and werenât surprised to see familiar faces; one of the tables was completely occupied by some of Zayneâs surgical nurses.Â
âWhy donât you get a table?â Zayne brushes a kiss on top of your hair. âAnd Iâll get the food. Do you still want a hazelnut latte with your cake?â
âYes please!â Zayneâs eyes fill with warmth as he squeezes your hand before walking towards the cashier. You wander over and pick a table near the nurses. You take out your phone and start to browse Instagram when a snide voice is heard from the table behind you.Â
âGross.â
You freeze but donât dare turn around. Maybe it wasnât directed at you.Â
âThatâs Dr. Zayneâs girlfriend?â
Shit it was.
âWhy is he with that porker?â
âYouâd think a man like that would have better taste.â
âI heard that they were childhood friends. Heâs probably dating her out of pity.â
Even as your blood rages, you feel tears pricking the backs of your eyes. Were they aware you could hear them? And they had just said your worst fears out loud; that Zayne was dating you as a favor, not because he was actually into you. It was an old insecurity you hadnât really grown out of. You startle slightly as Zayne suddenly sits down opposite you, food and beverages in hand. He sets down your coffee and cake while taking his own plate and tea off the tray.
âWhy are you so upset?â He immediately observes the distress on your face and the way your eyes are glistening. You shake your head and dab at your eyes with a napkin, Zayne watching you intently. The cute slice of cake heâs gotten for you sits temptingly in line with your vision but right now it might as well be a lump of clay, all appetite for it gone.Â
Zayneâs eyes flick to the cake and back to you. âDid I get the wrong one?â
Youâre about to shake your head no when the conversation at the table behind you picks up again. Clearly, they hadnât noticed Zayne sitting down.Â
âHe deserves so much more than that blob. There are so many attractive women at the hospital.â
âI agree. He could get anyone he wanted. Someone who actually takes care of their health and watches their figure.â
Shame fills you and youâre unable to look at Zayne in the eyes, knowing he had heard them, even though you know it was far from the truth. You ate all your vegetables and exercised frequently. But your body just refused to slim down no matter what you did. No matter how much you tried to lose weight, the weight just didnât want to lose you. Youâre about to get up and leave when Zayne speaks up, loud and clear, in a scathing tone.Â
âRight, because weight is the only indicator of a personâs health, isnât it?â Zayneâs words drip with sarcasm.Â
The entire nursesâ table jumps at his voice, turning around to look at him.
âOh, Dr. Zayne! We werenât-â
âI donât care what you werenât doing. Do not talk about anyone that way, patient or not. Were you not taught compassion as part of your medical training? Or is it reserved for people who look a certain way?â His eyes are narrowed and the table looks tense. One by one the nurses start to get up, quietly murmuring apologies to him as they exit the cafe.Â
Zayne watches them go, anger still visible in his eyes before turning his attention back to you. His hand covers yours on top of the table. âAre you all right?â
You sniff. âI try. You know I try. I cook all my meals. I exercise. We work out together. But I canât get the weight to go away.âÂ
âNo sweetheart. I know how much you take care of yourself.â Zayne reaches across the table to wipe your tears. âYou do not have to lose any weight. Youâre perfectly healthy, and as long as thatâs clear, nothing else matters.â
âYouâre not dating me out of pity?â You look at him uncertainly.Â
âPity?â Zayne chuckles in disbelief. âDarling when you first started coming to my office I was sure you were out of my league.â His thumb strokes your hand reassuringly.
âYouâre so amazing. Talented, compassionate, considerate. And all those things will always matter more to me than anything else.â
He looks at your neglected slice of cake. âNow donât take out your sadness on the dessert. If you donât finish it in 5 minutes, itâs mine.â
Rafayel:
You grip your wrap firmly around your shoulders, stepping with grace into the dazzling venue. You never missed Rafayelâs shows if you could help it but this time around, you had a skin in the game. Literally.
One night after a round of passionate lovemaking, you had woken to find Rafayel painting, and when you saw what he was working on, youâd blushed and smacked him on the shoulder.
There, in the brush strokes, he had painted you sleeping on his bed, your hair in disarray as it cascaded down your back, your face buried into the pillow and not quite visible. The sheets covered you modestly but the wide curve of your hips, the pudges of fat at your side, and the bra rolls under your arms were all painted with clarity and you found you couldnât look at it. A feeling of unease had settled in your stomach. Was this the way your boyfriend viewed you?
You had brought it up to Rafayel in a small voice. âDo you think Iâm fat?â
Your heart sank as Rafayelâs face, which had been so soft, a curve in his lips as he had painted, changed into a mask of dismay. âFat?â he had asked, looking quite upset. âWhere in this painting have I made you look fat?â
âHere. And here.â You point out the areas and Rafayel pulls you against him, holding you fiercely.Â
âCutie, I swear to God Iâm just painting you as you are. I donât think you look fat at all. Iâm just painting my beautiful girlfriend in all her glory.â Crushed against his chest, you try to talk.Â
âBut, most women in paintings donât look like that, they have smaller hips and thighs and mine look soâŚugly.â
You thought Rafayelâs heart might have broken as he heard your word of choice. âThereâs nothing about you thatâs ugly. None of this is ugly. Itâs a body. Your body. And baby I love every inch of it exactly as it is. I didnât mean to make you sad while I painted all the pretty little pieces of you that make you whole.â His hands trace your sides, squeezing you reassuringly.Â
âThereâs so much beauty in you baby. Thatâs all I see in this painting. Youâll always be the biggest masterpiece in my life.â
Knowing he held you in such high esteem had done wonders for your confidence, which was what you were trying to emulate as you walked into the gallery. Rafayel had hesitantly asked for your permission to showcase that painting for this show, promising heâd never use it without your consent. Nervous as you were, part of you was actually thrilled that it was going to be used. It was difficult to make out who the subject in the portrait was since your face wasnât entirely visible.Â
Still, it felt like an out-of-body experience as you approached the hung canvas, observing the crowd that flocked to it. Some people nodded at it quietly before moving on, others commented under their breath that Rafayel should have chosen a more appropriate model.Â
âCan you imagine this woman being naked in his bed?â One of them asked and her friends snickered sycophantically. âHe must have been drunk or something.â
âAnd why is that?â You turn in time to see Rafayel, dressed sharply in a couture outfit approach you and pull you to his side, his hand resting possessively on the jut of your hip. The woman backpedals.
âMr. Rafayel! I mean, obviously, your work is unique but I canât help but wonder what you might have been trying to convey when you painted someone with such aâŚheavy structure.â
Rafayel pretends to consider her words. âI supposeâŚpeople have different views on what beauty is. All I was trying to convey was how much I loved the person in the painting. Anyone that doesnât see the beauty in this particular painting, well Iâm afraid they have poor taste.â
Grinning at the affronted look on her face, Rafayel whisks you away, but not before you throw her a smug smirk over your shoulder.Â
Sylus:
Who knew underground mafia bosses loved their parties as much as their money? As strange as it was, the cliques had started becoming familiar with you hanging around. Anytime Sylus was invited to a gathering, it was expected that you were his plus one. While most of the men entertained polite conversation with you, it was no secret how coveted Sylus was by the women in the N109 zone.Â
They wrinkled their noses as you walked by, your head held high, knowing you shouldnât let their words get to you but it was hard. You tell the bartender your order and put a $100 bill into the tip jar. After all, you couldnât embarrass Sylus by handing out a miserly tip when he was supposed to be the richest man here.
You knew you looked good enough to kill; Sylus had chosen the gown you were wearing himself, even hiring a personal tailor to fit the dress to flaunt your best assets and a thick choker of diamonds glittered on your neck. The plunging V-line of the dress showed off a tempting display of creamy cleavage, the bodice of the dress pushing up your impressive bosom. The material crept over your belly and hips, your fupa visible a little more than you would have liked but Sylus had refused to hear otherwise. You remember the way his hands had caressed the bulge of fat after helping you zip up the gown, his low, contented, purr ringing in your ears.
âKitten, youâre going to be every manâs envy tonight. How delightful that I get to flaunt you as mine.â Â
A group of women, all model-thin and gorgeous, approach the bar, their cold eyes fixed on you, wearing smiles that could cut glass. Your fingers drum nervously on the counter as you try to ignore them. One of the women spies the tip you had put in and jerks her chin at you, her lips twisting into what looks like a sneer.Â
âSo Sylus has the money to let you throw around $100 bills into tip jars. I wonderâŚâ She pauses and the group draws collectively closer like a cackle of hyenas. âWouldnât his finances be more wisely spent on other avenues?â
âSuch as?â You ask carefully.
âA good plastic surgeon perhaps? Lord knows you could use some liposuction in more places than one.â Her entourage leers at you while covering their mouths to stifle their laughter.
Your back stiffens and your eyes widen in shock. You resist the urge to cover your middle. You knew you should have pushed harder to have the gown loosened. Your fupa, the soft squidge that bulged under the material of the dressâŚit was a mistake thinking you could attend a party with it showing up so obviously.Â
A million retorts form in your head but they all die weakly on your tongue. You had no defense, and you felt pathetic that you were sitting here and taking their abuse but your mind felt frozen, like you couldnât plan your next move.Â
âHow did you ever think that someone like you could pull off a dress like that?â The woman presses, her eyes boring into yours. Your pulse quickens as you try to find a way to escape.
âYouâre right, she canât pull off a dress like that.â A rich, deep voice answers the woman who pales as she sees Sylus drape his arm possessively around your shoulders. âItâll wrinkle. Thatâs why Iâll be pulling it off for her as soon as we get home.â
His eyes flash scarlet as he signals to the bartender, who immediately starts pouring him a drink and expediting your cocktail, setting both glasses on coasters in front of you. You flush but try not to look too pleased as you take a sip, feeling the alcohol loosen you.Â
âMr. Sylus.â The womanâs voice changes immediately and she steps back. âWe were just talking about fashion.â she fibs hastily, trying to cover up her reason for using the word âdressâ.
âFashion?â Sylus looks at her patronizingly. âDo tell.â
Caught, she wets her lips before saying, âOh we were talking about jeans and how they never fit or have pockets-â
âHmm. I can understand these problems. After all, jeans without pockets are like women without curvesâŚthereâs nowhere to put your hands.â His broad hand shifts to your hip, his fingers subtly signaling it is time for you to go. You pick up your glass and Sylus holds onto you firmly as you walk back to the crowd.Â
Xavier:
Youâre sweaty as you and Xavier walk back from the office gym to the locker rooms. Xavier drinks from his water bottle, swallowing zealously. âI think weâve exercised enough for a whole week,â he says as you walk. You laugh and shake your head.
âWe only did a half hour of cardio!â
âYeah, but we lifted all those weights too! In fact, my muscles already feel stronger.â Xavier flexes his arm and a visible bicep forms, making you grin.Â
âOh so strong,â you say as you reach out to squeeze. Xavier winces slightly and you quickly withdraw. âSorry.â
âItâs ok. Iâm a little sore.â You reach the locker rooms.âIâll wait for you outside.â
You nod and he disappears into the men's locker room. You wander into the womenâs, undo the lock, and retrieve your bag, finding a stall to change your clothes. You peel off your damp leggings which stick to your plushy thighs and you drag them down, sighing in relief as the skin jiggles freely in the cool air after being stuffed in the heat of polyester for so long.Â
The skin on your butt and stomach are dimpled, something youâd come to terms with. You recall how nervous youâd been to let Xavier see you in a bathing suit at the pool but now you barely glance at them.Â
âItâs like your skin is smiling at me when I kiss it.âÂ
Thatâs what Xavier had said as he kissed the soft flesh lovingly. Who could possibly feel self-conscious after that analogy? As you fold away the sweaty clothes into a garment bag, you hear several of the other changing room doors open and a group of voices fills the locker room as you change. You normally wouldnât have paid attention but you freeze when you hear Xavierâs name.
âWhy do you think Xavier works out with her of all people?â
âI know! They workout together like almost everyday and she hasnât lost any weight!â
âShe probably lacks the discipline to go on a real diet. It doesnât matter how much she exercises, that fat isnât going to go away if she doesnât eat healthier.â
âXavier really needs to find a better workout buddy. She only slows him down.â
Your heart clenches in your chest as you hear the cruel commentary. How dare these women talk about your body like it was a source of entertainment for them? Both rage and sorrow fills you as you catch sight of yourself in the mirror. Suddenly all you can see are the flaws.
How cute, to call cellulite âdimpled skinâ like it was something to be adored. You stare at the lumpy skin, at the way your stomach and arms have stretch marks everywhere, the way your skin bulges over the band of your bra. You wait in silence as the women finish their chat and you hear them exit the locker room.
After what seemed like ages, you finally finish dressing and leave the changing room feeling humiliated. The post-workout glow had all but vanished from your system and you couldnât shake off the feeling of being perceived like a huge, hulking, ogre; built big and lumberingly, not at all cute like the princess Xavier claimed you were. You leave the dressing room, then stare in disbelief as the same group of women crowd around Xavier as he waits for you. You lurk, not wanting to be seen, then one of the women speaks up.
âXavier, if youâre looking for another workout buddy Iâd be happy to tag along.â One of them chirps perkily.
Xavier chuckles politely and shakes his head. âThank you, but no. I have a workout buddy.â
âOh cmon Xavier, donât you think you need someone who can challenge you a little more?â
âI do actually. Thatâs why I work out with her.â
âDoes she really challenge you?â
âI think she challenges me more than you. Didn't you finish last in the company relay race?â The womanâs face falls and your heart skips a beat.Â
âAnd you,â Xavier says as he turns to face another woman. âForgive me if Iâm wrong but you struggle to push anything more than 75 pounds. My workout buddy does 150 easily. Sheâs very strong. Perhaps you might benefit from training with her.â The second woman looks offended even as sheâs being chastised.Â
Feeling your confidence soar, you skip over to Xavier feeling as light as a feather. Xavierâs eyes light up as you approach. âLadies,â you say smugly to their scandalized faces before pulling Xavier away from them, holding his arm as you walk away.Â

to add to this; Queer sex scenes are important, because they are part of many a queer experience. 'we're here, we're queer, we will not live in fear' is a compelling phrase exactly because our sexuality (and especially trans sexuality of people of colour) is often seen as vile, pornographic or """"degenerate"""" things that should not be seen by """"civilised (WASP) society"""". I am reminded of those videos of Christian men who with crying faces describe that 'in their darkest moments they *even* looked at trans women in their porn.' We are not a mere porn category. we are full-fledged people living full lives with a full range of human experiences, and sex can be part of that, and hey, sometimes I want to see people like me having a wonderful loving time.
So I seek out books in which trans people fuck. I seek out books in which nonbinary people fuck (with neopronouns even!) I seek out books in which minorities tell their stories, in the way they want to tell them, and hell yes, Fucking (and being in love, yearning, tragedy, crying, and thinking back on missed opportunities and the whole goddamn scala of living that can be seen in all those books in all those genres? they are worth depicting. They Can All Be Art. And we don't have to be ashamed in wanting to see and read about those experiences that can both reflect our own realities and grant us new perspectives into realities that could never be our own.
Sex scenes can, and often tell stories about the people having sex. from the simple (do these people love or hate each other?) to the complex ('Oh no, I was enjoying this but now suddenly there are Gender Feelings welling up in my head!' or 'Is this character using this kinky sex to manipulate this other person's Loyalty in the upcoming battle, or are there more emotions at play here?') to the entire field of Kinks and kinkiness? (which character indulges in what and why? is this healthy for them?) these can all be fascinating elements for skilled storytellers to explore.
Of course I'm not saying that all stories need to have (queer) sex scenes in them and that all writers must write them, just that to dismiss them outright as being without value is foolish.
"sex scenes have no narrative purpose" is such a funny take on so many levels. people will really believe that the whole human experience is valuable to portray artistically except sex, which of course has never held emotional weight or significance for anybody

Some Updated Thoughts on Lucanis' Romance (Both Positive & Constructive)
I want to make this as balanced and as reasonable a take as I can. I'll put everything under the cut and tag as critical so you don't have to engage with it/see it if you don't want to.
As usual, these are just my opinions. If you really enjoyed Lucanis' romance, none of what I'm about to say is meant to dissuade you from that. I'm happy for you!! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. There were parts of it that I absolutely loved too, and I hope I'll do that justice with this post so it doesn't come across as hate. Because I don't hate his romance, I just think there was some places where it could have been fleshed out a bit more.
If you want to engage in discussion with the more critical aspects of this post, my only request is you do so respectfully.
Positives
I'd like to start on a good note by detailing the aspects of his romance that I really liked. There are a few places where I think they did a great job with his romance.
Party Banter & Codex Entries
Although meant to be supplemental material to the story, I think they do a really good job at helping the slow-burn aspect of his romance they were going for. There's one codex entry that goes something along the lines of 'It is not an hour lost, but an hour found' and that is one of my favourite codex entries....ever. It's such a short entry but so meaningful and shows you a lot about his character. You get this profound sense of just how much Rook means to him with this one line.
His party banter once you're in a relationship is also very sweet. I didn't get a lot of it, but what I did get was lovely. Especially when he admits to Neve that Rook is good for him and makes him smile. There's another line about how he doesn't know what Rook sees in him, but he's happy they're with him which is super sweet. Telling Emmrich how Rook is his first relationship? Adorable.
Everything about the party banter and codex entries did a good job of giving us more insight into how his character is dealing with things, when it's not explicitly shown to us in cutscenes (We'll come back to this later). It helps form a more complete picture of the way they wanted to handle this romance in general.
Relationship Cutscenes
There's a few scenes throughout the romance that I enjoyed a lot.
The scene with Illario at Cafe Pietra and the talk of first kisses and kisses goodbye was very cute and well done. It really did feel like a coffee date haha.
The almost-kiss scene was also amazing. The confident stride towards Rook, the wall-lean, his facial expression when he pulls away. You can feel how much he wants it, but something in the back of his mind (whether it's him, or Spite) pulls him away at the last second? I loved that. I'm actually super glad they didn't kiss here. The pull away made for great tension (I'm going to come back to why this is important later).
His line about Rook breaking apart his 'perfectly gathered clouds of doom' was beautiful, and one of my favourite lines in the game.
Although there could have been more to it, his romance lock-in scene with him baking dessert for Rook is also sweet and shows his romantic side and thoughtfulness.
The ending scene of the romance, after Rook comes out of the Fade Prison, is some of my favourite romance scenes in any Bioware game. Any game, period. It was so incredibly well done. From the writing, to the dialogue, to the facial expressions - absolutely everything was perfect. The wings coming out, the fade to black, the banter about falling asleep and playing cards with Spite? Lovely. All absolutely lovely. 10/10, no notes.
His dialogue about killing any god to keep Rook safe is very sweet/romantic. How he wants Rook to tell them this all ends with him asleep in their arms. How Rook's voice is a comfort. This was SO beautiful.
All in all, in some places, I feel that they did achieve the slow burn they wanted with his romance. Even excelled at it, really.
Constructive Criticism
I'm just going to re-iterate that while this section may be longer than the positives, it comes from a place of love rather than just wanting to hate for the sake of hating. I've been a fan of this character ever since I picked up Tevinter Nights, and was looking forward to his romance the most.
The Neve Situation
I'm going to get this one out of the way first because it's probably one of the more.... contentious points in this discussion.
Besties, I need you all to hold my hand so tightly as I say this, but absolutely none of my frustration with the Neve/Lucanis thing is to be construed as hate towards Neve. In fact, I love Neve. I've been a fan of her since she appeared in the comics. I loved her in Tevinter Nights. I love her in the game, I can't wait to romance her. I don't have a problem with these two characters getting together if Rook is not romancing either of them. That being said, there are a few things about his interactions with Neve if romanced by Rook that I can see why they would rub people the wrong way (and why they rub me the wrong way a little bit too).
-Neve and Lucanis can still flirt after Lucanis is locked into a romance with Rook. This is a pretty big oversight from the devs. Its no secret that characters will romance each other if not in a romance with the player character. It happened in DA2 with Fenris/Isabela, in DAI with Josephine/Blackwall, Sera/Dagna, and Bull/Dorian. In ME, I believe it happens with Garrus and Tali as well. So, I don't think the simple fact that they can get together is really what's bothering people.
Importantly, unlike previous games, once the player character is locked into a romance with the other party, the LI doesn't flirt with other companions. I think if the devs had locked the flirting once Lucanis is locked in with romance, much of this conversation wouldn't even be happening.
DATV is a role-playing game. Nothing would take someone out of a role-playing game faster than their love-interest being flirty with another companion - and understandably so. It just feels...icky? Like your player character is getting in the way of a ship the writers wanted. I don't think it's unreasonable for someone to not want to feel like a third wheel in their own romance.
-In Lucanis' mind-prison quest, even if he's romanced by Rook, Neve will still appear. The way Spite describes her seems to imply he still has some sort of romantic feelings for her. Which.... yikes (but this may also just be the way I read his line). If he's not romanced by Rook, Neve being here would make sense. There's not even a mention about Rook in a note or anything. Spite has one line about Rook opening doors and not closing them but that's about it. There's no special romance reactivity in this scene, even though it happens pretty late in the game and after the romance-lock in. Afterwards, he says he trusts you with his thoughts, which is sweet. But this should have been in the cutscene - not skippable banter at the LightHouse.
Set Up & Pay-off
This is a fundamental aspect of storytelling I'm sure you're all familiar with. The classic Chekov's gun. Don't set up something you don't plan to pay off.
Let's go back to the almost-kiss. They set up some fantastic romantic tension here. If you go see Lucanis again after this scene, I think he has a line along the lines of "I'm sorry Rook... I can't ..." But that's all we get. And the almost-kiss isn't really addressed again. Actually I wouldn't even call this being addressed in the first place, because if you wait too long to see him after that cutscene it may not trigger in the first place. This is probably the most egregious example of wasted set up with no pay off. There's no discussion about it. There's no cutscene of Lucanis talking to another companion, or even having some kind of internal monologue about it.
Another example of set up & pay-off is after confronting Illario. Lucanis says he has a plan to celebrate instead of sticking around at the party.
Cut to him drinking coffee by himself back at the Lighthouse.
Rook & Lucanis could have sneaked off to Cafe Pietra, or gone walking in the Treviso market. Or hell, taken the Gondola ride that was in the concept art. Or kissed in the rain under an awning. (I'm never getting over that concept art they showed us...)
The conversation about sparing Illario, how he doesn't want to lose what he has left, including Rook, is fine. But I feel this was another wasted opportunity.
The romance lock-in scene is another example of a missed opportunity/failed set-up. It doesn't even feel like a romance lock-in to a lot of people. If so many players think their game is bugged because that's how you lock in the romance, I think there's a problem. You go from almost kissing to a full on relationship. There is so much that can happen in between that (none of which has to be physical intimacy btw) which could have helped make the lock in scene make more sense. It's the same scene as the one with Neve - but almost...done worse?
Having coffee with Spite & Lucanis. This one is more a writing issue. At the end of the scene he stands awkwardly next to Rook and says, "Whatever this is, I'll take it" and I couldn't help but feel... the writers really just didn't know what they wanted to accomplish with this scene. 'Whatever this is' could have been 'I don't know what this is yet or what to call it, but whatever it is, I want to see it through with you' or something along those lines. Astarion actually says something similar in one of his romance scenes, but he holds your hand, looks at Tav earnestly, and says "Honestly, I don't know what we're doing. But this...this is nice..". He doesn't put a name to the relationship either, but it's the way he says it and how it's conveyed that make it a more effective scene.
He's been imprisoned for a year. He was made into an abomination. He doesn't sleep. He's dealing with PTSD probably. He's a romantic at heart but needs to learn to trust again. It makes sense that he's not overly flirty with Rook, and the romance isn't very physical. This is all FINE.
BUT.
While I listed the codex entries & party banter as a positive (because I do like it), I feel that they leaned too heavily on that for the romance.
Let's contrast Lucanis' romance to Cullen's romance in DAI. After all, Cullen has also gone through some pretty traumatic shit and is literally struggling with Lyrium addiction when you meet him in Inquisition. I want you to remove all of Cullen's side-banter about the inquisitor, all party banter about their relationship, and all the codex entries. When you watch the cutscenes of his romance in order, you are still left with a solid romance. If you're a mage, you even get some heartbreaking mage-specific dialogue about whether or not he'd cut you down if you ever become an abomination.... And I'm getting off topic here, sorry.
My point is, these things are meant to be extra. They are not supposed to be the way you piece together bits of your own relationship and a substitute for companion interaction. And here is where I think DATV's choice not to let you randomly talk to your companions really hurts it as a game.
Romance Reactivity
There's a few points in the game where romance-specific dialogue would have really helped solidify things.
No, I don't mean flirting. I mean dialogue that reads like he's struggling with building the relationship - not bulldozing right past it. It makes the romance-specific dialogue wheel options feel rather useless.
One example is during one of his personal quests, Rook says
"I'm still here aren't I"
No facial reaction, "We need to talk about Illario"
You can see how this is a bit ... jarring, right? Like you may as well have not even picked the romance-specific dialogue? There's a few instances of this, but that one is just the one I can recall off the top of my head. When I pick the romance-specific dialogue wheel in Bioware games, there's always something about the response from the other character that indicates something more might be going on - it could be something as simple as a nervous smile, or an extra line of dialogue, or hell, maybe they flirt back (although with Lucanis I understand why he wouldn't).
If you're not going to show romance reactivity with Rook, give us a scene with Lucanis where we understand why. Show him fumbling to do something nice for them. Show him pacing and wondering if Rook is really into him. Show him struggling against Spite, if he's worried Spite will hurt Rook. Don't just tell us through codex entries. Show us.
Miscellaneous Sentiments & Final Thoughts
On the whole, I genuinely feel like Lucanis has the least content out of all the companions. Maybe it's because they laid off Courtney Woods & Mary Kirby, maybe there's another reason. I don't know. But so often I found myself going back to the Lighthouse wanting to talk to Lucanis but there's no little indicator thingy for him. But every time I go back Davrin, Harding, Bellara, etc. all have something to say.
We should have had an opportunity to delve a little bit more into his relationship with his family, unpacked the stuff with Caterina & Illario a bit more, and unpacked him being made First Talon. Which, if you read Tevinter Nights, you know he actually doesn't want the job. If they weren't going to include it as a cutscene, then extra dialogue (a-la-Inquisition) would have been a good place to fit that in.
On the whole, I still like aspects of his romance. I'm looking forward to romancing him again. I just feel that the romance could have benefitted from even 1 or 2 extra small scenes. If I can go on 1000 walks in the forest with Davrin and Assan, I should be able to have a real conversation with Lucanis about the relationship, his hangups about it, and try and work through it.
Keep the almost-kiss in there. An extra kiss before the finale would have been fine, but not necessary. What was necessary, imo, is a whooole lot of buildup throughout the course of Act 2 so it doesn't feel like you're getting whiplash in Act 3 when you do kiss and have the implied sex scene.
I think the concept art that was recently released feels like a gut punch to us Lucanis fans. Because it shows that Bioware had the skeleton of a great romance, and chose to axe nearly all of it.
It really feels like they didn't quite know what to do with his character and romance and just said 'put it all in the codex and banter and let them figure it out for themselves'.
Quick Notes
The argument that we should 'run to AO3' to fix our issues with the narrative, to me, is unproductive. Fanfiction should supplement the source material, not act as a replacement for good storytelling.
I don't think telling people to headcanon a majority of a romance they were looking forward to is helpful either. Headcanon is not supposed to replace storytelling either.
Boiling down the criticisms of Lucanis' romance to 'you just want more steam/sex/etc' is also unhelpful. Maybe it's just who I follow, but I have barely seen anyone (on here or reddit) state that this is their main problem with the romance.
Okay, that's it!
Bye!

I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU. (ěíě´í)
synopsis: doing skincare/cozy stuff with bf!enhypen warnings đ¨ tooth rotting fluff, skinship, petnames, and kissing.
(Hyung line)
Nova notes: HIHI âŁď¸ this was based on this request. I will probably do a whole one for Ni-ki later, and also probably Heeseung because I cannot resist writing fluff for this man. Maknae line here.
Heeseung (íŹěš)
You were sat on the bathroom counter with Heeseung in between your legs, hands on your thigh, rubbing up and down gently, watching you with heart eyes while you apply moisturiser on his face. "Stop looking at me like that." You said shyly, his gaze making your face heat up. "Why? You're pretty." He stated, his gaze not wavering from your ethereal face. Your smile widens as you feel Heesueng leaning closer to your touch. "Everyday I'm shocked that you're my girlfriend, because omg, you're fucking gorgeous." He whispered, relishing in the feeling of your warm hand. You roll eyes, trying to hide your flustered face, but that's impossible when he is looking at you like THAT. He chuckles slightly and turns his head, kissing your palm lovingly.
Jay (ě ěą)
You were having a tough week as it was midterms season. Constant studying, endless stressing, and a ruined sleep schedule that had Jay ruining his aswell. Jay knew that one of the ways to help you ease the stress, besides his cooking, is simply taking care of you. "Baby, I'm fine really. I just need to sleep." You said as Jay placed you on the bathroom counter and stood in between your legs, having your entire night care routine out beside you. "Yeah, and you also need some me love. So I'm giving you some." He said softly as he picked up the cleanser. He gently wet your face with a damp towel and began rubbing the cleanser all over your. You can feel your eyes getting heavier with every warm touch against your skin. Jay chuckled as he took in your drowsy figure, feeling his heart warm up with an overwhelming amount of love. "I hate seeing you this stressed, baby, you know that?" He said softly as he was caressing your face tenderly. "Blame the school system." You said, voice low with sleep and exhaustion. Jay sighed as he walked you to the he'd and completed your skincare while your sleeping soundly on the bed. "Sleep well, princess."
Jake (ěŹě¤)
You and him were sat opposite to eachother on your shared bed with a variety of different colors of nail polish. "Okay, so, what color do you want, baby?" Jake asked, assessing each color individually. "I don't really know. You choose for me." You said with a cheeky smile. Jake smiled, looking up at you with eyes full of stars. "Oh, I've been waiting for this day. Okay, I will not disappoint you." He paused then gasped again, "Should I make you a design?" He asked with huge puppy eyes. You nodded, sharing the same enthusiasm. He picked up the baby pink and the pearly white nail polish and began painting your nails while talking with you about everything and nothing. After an hour or so, Jake finished with an excited clap. "Okay, I put my heart, sweat, and tears into this. I hope you like it." He said as you brought your hands up to see his masterpiece. Eyes lighting up with adoration, "omg, jake I love this! I will never take it off." You said, throwing your arms around him and peppering kisses all over his face. His and your giggles filled the room, love swirling in the dim room.
Sunghoon (ěąí)
"What's that for?" That was the question Sunghoon has been asking everytime you put a different product on his face. Now you were doing face masks. "This is a hydration face mask." You said simply, standing on your tip-toes to place the sheet mask over his flawless face. His hands unconsciously finding its way to your waist, holding you gently yet protectively. "And what's the one you have on your face?" He asked, mumbling from the face mask, afraid of disturbing you while you're patting it down. "It's the same thing just a different color." You explained, pushing his soft bangs away to smooth the mask down on his forehead. He hummed as he began rubbing your waist up and down, filling your stomach with butterflies. "Now we wait 20 minutes." You said, standing back at your original height. "I have some ideas that can fill those 20 minutes." He smirked down at you as you rolled your eyes, pecking his lips slightly that eventually led to a 20 minute make out session.

hard to ignore (two-shot) (part one)
pairing singledad! zach maclaren x nanny! female reader
summary when youâre offered a job as a nanny, you can tell right away that youâll grow fond of the little girl youâre taking care of. things are easy to manage until you realize youâre falling for her dad.
authorâs note hugs to @nemesyaaa for sharing the idea of singledad!zach. i couldnât stop writing (and the one-shot hit 15k words and became a two-shot⌠i love slowburnâŚ) hurt and comfort. fluff. no smut. divider credit.
content warning parental abandonment
Âť masterlist
Zach is sure, without a doubt, that he has already lived the best day of his life.
The moment he held Ella in his arms was when the world bloomed into a color he didnât know existed. Nothing could ever and would ever top that feeling.
He didnât expect that before thirty, heâd already experience the worst day of his life, too. But heâs certain he has.
He was in a fog, a bad dream he kept trying to wake himself up from. He had stepped into the guest room to see a piece of paper on Jadeâs bed and he knew before he even unfolded the letter that she was gone.
He read the last line of the letter over and over again. I canât live like this anymore. Deep down, he always feared that she would give up on them. But not like this. And not this soon.
After Ella was born, bitterness permanently etched itself into Jadeâs face. To her, the baby was always a mistake and Zach stopped being someone she loved and became nothing but the man she regretfully had a child with.
She became the antithesis of the girl he fell for. The love theyâd once had was replaced with a cold distance. She started sleeping in the guest room. She ate her meals alone. She left the house as much as she could.
Still, he respected that she had learned to tolerate motherhood. While she didnât love being a stay-at-home mom, he didnât think she hated it.
But then she left. And if she could abandon them like this, four years in, not even having it in her to look into her little girlâs eyes to say goodbye, then that tolerance had a cruel end.
Thatâs why now, a month after her sudden departure, Zach is sitting in his living room, fingers curling the corner of the resume belonging to the woman scheduled to arrive in a few minutes.
Dishes clatter as his mother tidies up his kitchen. Normally, heâd feel guilty and nag her to sit down. But things arenât normal and heâll take all the help he can get. Itâs been an uphill battle trying to pick up the pieces on his own.
His family drove in a few nights ago. They offered to visit as soon as he called with the news, but he didnât want to put Ella through too much at once, so he waited a few weeks. Once he asked them to come, they dropped everything and set out for the four-hour car ride.
Ellaâs playing in the backyard with her grandpa and aunt while Connie helps Zach run interviews. His teamâs managers were understanding when he asked for time off, but Zach canât be away forever. With his training and match schedule, he needs to find a nanny.
Heâd rather not introduce a new person into her life, especially this soon, but itâs unavoidable. At least with a nanny, he can control that Ella will always be in the comfort of her home. A place she knows.
Moments like these, he wishes he hadnât been drafted to a team a state away. If heâd stayed close to his hometown, Ella would see both sets of grandparents more often and heâd have dependable childcare until he figured out how to function as a single dad.
Zach looks over his shoulder through the window, swallowing the lump in his throat when he sees his daughter running circles around her grandpa in the morning sun. The chime of the doorbell throws him out of his trance.
Soft blue eyes meet yours when the door swings open. The stranger on the other side is tall and handsome and younger than you expected, his half-smile clouded by sorrow. You introduce yourself and he offers you a firm but gentle handshake.
âNice to meet you,â he says. âIâm Zach. Come in.â
You trail him into the large house, mind already racing with the potential of it becoming your workplace. The agency had set up the interview. You donât know much about the client, except that he has a four-year-old daughter and that he requested a nanny whoâs adaptable to a changing schedule.
After meeting Ellaâs grandmother, you settle on a couch and make small talk and answer their questions. You learn that Zach is a professional soccer player and that his work can be demanding and inconsistent, but with your apartment being close by, you assure him that youâre reliable and flexible.
By the end of the interview, the idea of a nanny doesnât make Zach nearly as uneasy as it did an hour ago. Youâre kind and experienced and knowledgeable and every time you see his little girl through the window, you smile in pure endearment.
Zach likes the idea of his daughter being around someone joyful. Jade grew to be so cold that Ella learned to go to her dad whenever she wanted to feel reassured and loved. Itâs comforting to imagine her growing to like you, maybe even love you, and to be met with the same warmth sheâs so full of.
The rest of the interviews go fine, but Zach has always operated on gut feelings and youâre a clear winner. His mom agrees.
ââââŕ¨ŕ§ââââ
After an agency rep calls to tell you that youâve been offered a trial period, you spend five days at the house getting to know Ella while Zach shadows to answer your questions. Heâs friendly and helpful, but visibly tense.
The final afternoon, youâre playing with Ella in the living room when Zachâs phone rings. Ella rushes over to his side, asking if itâs her mommy calling. You notice the nervous way his jaw clenches when he kneels to the floor.
âItâs grandma,â he tells her, holding his phone out so the camera will capture them both.
You pretend you didnât hear Ella's question. You know nothing about her mom and you wouldnât dare risk crossing a boundary by asking.
Soon after the call, Ellaâs drawing at the dining table while you and Zach periodically glance across the room to check on her from the kitchen. Heâs been teaching you how he prepares Ellaâs favorite foods. He likes that you write everything down, asking him for details down to exact measurements. If he wasnât sure that you took the happiness of his daughter seriously before, he is now.
He already told the story to his family and to Jadeâs parents and to his closest friends, but that was with people he knew well. People who could comfort him. Heâs not sure how to share with you that she left, but he wants to hire you, and this is something you should be aware of.
After he slides a pan into the oven, he stands to face you, towering over you as he wipes his hands with a tea towel.
âYou have the job if you want it,â Zach says quietly. You smile at him appreciatively. You werenât feeling confident, considering how on edge heâs been, but you realize it must not have been you he was nervous about.
âThank you,â you reply. âI do.â
He nods, looking down as he leans against the kitchen island, and says, âShe starts kindergarten next fall. Youâd be alright with part-time hours then?â
âYes.â
âGood. Uh, you should knowâŚâ he says, turning his head to look over at his daughter, âher mom left. A little over a month ago. It was out of the blue.â
Your heart twists in pain at his words, at the agony that draws itself into his face.
âIâm so sorry,â you say, staring up at his profile. Zach blinks a few times, gazing at his daughter. You press your lips together, wishing you knew what to say.
âElla didnât get a goodbye,â he tells you. Neither did he, not a real one, but thatâs irrelevant. âI told her that her mom chose to leave and I donât know why she made that choice, but Iâm not going anywhere. If she brings it up, please say the same.â
âI will,â you reply with an understanding nod, âand only if she mentions it first.â
âThank you,â Zach says. âIâll be honest with you. I really donât want someone to leave her again. You are planning on staying as long as we need you, right? Even when the hours get shorter during the school year?â
He had that same note of desperation in his voice when he asked you about your commitment to the job during the interview, too.
âYes,â you assure him. âI understand that she needs stability right now.â
Based on the way Zachâs eyes lower, you can tell he needs stability, too. His wife not only left him, but she left him with their child. You canât imagine the hole that it dug in his heart.
âThanks,â he says. He takes a breath. He wasnât strong enough not to cry when he told Ella her mom was gone and heâll always hate himself for it, but at least he kept his tears from falling this time.
âDo you want to ask her what she thinks about it?â you offer. âI can go put away her laundry to give you some privacy.â
Zach nods in agreement. And as he expected, when he asks his daughter if sheâd like for you to hang around here more often after he goes back to work, she gives him an enthusiastic yes.
Youâre purposely slow with the laundry to give them time. You come back into the kitchen to see Ella happily eating a freshly baked muffin and swinging her feet, smiling up at her father as he sits next to her at the dining table.
âMy daddy said youâre gonna be here every day,â she says to you with a grin, overjoyed by the news.
âNot every day,â Zach corrects her gently. âBut most days.â
âTry this!â Ella exclaims, stretching her arm out towards you, the muffin in her fist. The way you happily accept the food even though itâs reduced to smushed fragments in his childâs small hand makes Zachâs heart feel a little lighter.
âThatâs delicious,â you say after you take a bite, settling at the table across from them.
Zachâs still getting used to having a woman around whoâs so sweet to his child. Jade would hardly ever accept Ellaâs offers to share her food, telling him that saying yes to everything would only raise a spoiled child.
âMy daddyâs the bestest cook,â she proudly says.
âBest,â Zach corrects. âThank you, honey.â
âHe really is,â you reply. âI donât know how Iâll fill his shoes, but Iâll try my best.â
Ellaâs face pinches in confusion as she kneels over in her booster seat to look under the table.
âI think his shoes will be too big for you,â she mumbles, pointing to your feet. You laugh, meeting Zachâs gaze, seeing the first genuine smile on his face. You didnât know he had dimples.
He canât remember the last time he laughed, really laughed, with someone like this. Lifeâs dealt him a tough hand, but youâve given him relief.
ââââŕ¨ŕ§ââââ
Zach is organized. So organized that it sort of amazes you. Not only does he give you his, and in turn, your work schedule a month in advance through a color-coded calendar, but he also provides you with a meal plan for Ella so that you donât have to worry about making one yourself.
The first day on your own with her is perfect. Sheâs energetic, well-behaved, and loves to talk. Zach left for training at noon and you were surprised that he found the time to text as much as he did. You replied to his every message asking for updates, sharing what youâre doing and reassuring him that Ellaâs doing okay.
He gets home an hour after Ellaâs bedtime. Heâs been on edge all day, worrying that all this was too much, too fast for his little girl. Maybe he should have taken more time off.
Youâre finishing up loading the dishwasher when you hear his keys jingling. You turn to greet him as he paces into the kitchen.
âHey, how was bedtime?â he asks.
âWe read three books and she asked me to stay with her until she fell asleep,â you tell him. âNo issues.â
Zach sighs in relief. He never liked afternoon training because he missed bedtime. Ella preferred bedtime with her dad over with her mom. She preferred everything with her dad, really. But hearing that she wanted you to stay is reassuring.
âAnd she ate well?â he asks. He settles on one of the stools lining the kitchen counter, watching you cross the room to stand opposite him.
âYes,â you tell him. âShe was great.â
âSorry if I was annoying with all the texts,â he says with a small, apologetic smile.
âYou werenât, but I wanted to let you know that itâs okay if you want to set up cameras. I know some parents like having live video they can tune into throughout the day.â Youâd already noticed the security cameras outside when you first came to the house. You understand why heâd be so protective.
Zach threads his fingers through his dirty blond hair, damp from the shower he took in the training centerâs locker room.
âAlright, I was definitely annoying if youâre offering to be surveilled,â he mumbles with a chuckle.
âNo,â you laugh. âElla did get a little frustrated, though. We were playing princesses and she said princesses arenât supposed to go on their phones this much.â
Zach breathes a laugh. Youâve only been here for six days, but he hasnât smiled this much in a long time.
âThank you for all your work today,â he says. âI wonât keep you any longer.â You give him a bright smile and wish him a good night before you head out.
When Zach trudges upstairs, he peeks into Ellaâs room. Sheâs sleeping peacefully, curled up with her favorite plushie. Now that he has a semblance of normalcy back in his life, he realizes that beneath the sadness and betrayal, he feels anger.
Itâs not typical of him to feel angry. But Jade set everything ablaze when she abandoned them and heâs been left in the ashes, trying to stay level-headed while heâs choking on smoke.
He knows he lost Jadeâs heart long ago. She lost his, too. Itâs the fact that she broke their daughterâs without any hesitation â thatâs what kills him.
ââââŕ¨ŕ§ââââ
Zach never takes you up on the offer to have cameras installed. He starts to let go, little by little, eventually going a full day without sending a single check-in text. Itâs gratifying to know youâve earned his trust.
Before you know it, youâve been Ellaâs nanny for two months. Sheâs made herself a home in your heart. The only way youâd ever leave her is if you were told to, and you canât even imagine being fired. Zach often checks in to see if youâre happy with your job and asks if thereâs anything he can do to make things better. He clearly values you and doesnât want to lose you.
Itâs mid-morning when youâre playing with Ella on the living room floor and Zach comes through the front door. She rushes to him and you smile as you watch him drop his duffle bag and happily scoop his daughter up.
He had an away game last night and flew in early. His skin is blanched, dark half-circles under his eyes, but like always, he finds energy for his daughter. You admire it about him, how sheâs never too much for him.
âThereâs a plate for you in the kitchen,â you tell him when he meets your gaze.
âYou donât have toââ
âI know,â you say with a laugh. Zach has already told you many times that Ellaâs the only one you have to feed, but you can tell he appreciates coming home to a meal. âThere were leftovers.â
âWere there?â he asks, brows quirked, an unconvinced smirk on his lips.
You shrug and laugh again. Youâve grown into a friendly level of comfort with each other and you appreciate how you can joke around with him.
Zach sits in the dining room to eat, listening to Ella tell him all about her playdate yesterday. You tidy up the living room as you overhear her chat about how her friend was showing her ballet poses and how badly she wants lessons.
Youâd sent Zach a courtesy text before you fell asleep in the guest room last night: We had a great day. She had a lot of fun on the playdate. Just so youâre prepared, sheâs VERY into ballet now and is going to ask you if she can get lessons. Sending some options. Then, you sent him a few links to childrenâs dance classes in town.
You woke up to two texts from him. The first said: Appreciate the warning and the research. Am I crazy for holding on to hope that sheâll like soccer one day? You smiled at your screen. Youâd briefly talked with Zach about how Ella has no interest in the sport her father dedicated his career to.
The second text from him, sent fifteen minutes later, read: Would you be alright with taking her to 6-6:45 pm classes on Wednesdays when I canât? The season starts next week.
You replied when you woke up: Definitely.
You enter the dining room to see Ella hanging off her dadâs shoulders while he tries to eat, continuing to rattle on about how sheâd never miss a lesson and would always listen in class.
âAlright, take a breath,â he chuckles. When he tells her you found her a class at a studio uptown and that heâll enroll her if sheâs sure she can commit, she squeals in delight. She hugs Zach, then runs over to hug you, too, nearly knocking you over.
âEasy,â her dad tells her. Ella asks you to turn on the ballet music playlist you found for her yesterday and launches into twirls across the living room.
âRemember what I said,â you tell her over the music. âIf you start to get dizzy, youâŚ?â
âSit down, I know!â she shouts. You meet Zachâs eyes, both of you wearing smiles. You can see the fatigue on his face under the bright dining room light.
âDo you want me to stay another hour so you can catch up on sleep?â you offer. âI donât mind.â
He knows his heart shouldnât skip when he looks at you, but it does. He canât help it. You donât see this as a job you clock in and out of. Youâve integrated yourself into Ellaâs life, into his life, so seamlessly. He doesnât feel like youâre an employee here. Youâre a friend who goes above and beyond to help. Youâre someone who his daughter adores. Youâre a beautiful person, inside and out.
He looks down at his plate, embarrassed, as if you can read his mind. His head has been doing this lately, rushing into thoughts of you that are much more than professional. He shouldnât be thinking that his daughterâs nanny is beautiful.
âItâs okay,â he tells you. âYou can head home. Weâll see you soon.â
You nod and call Ella over to look at the calendar Zach made. Itâs a routine with her every time you leave. She likes knowing when youâll be back.
When Zach heads upstairs to drop his things off into his bedroom, he stops when he passes the guest room. You left the door ajar. Even though you always keep it neat, only leaving an overnight bag on the nightstand, thereâs a lived in feeling, a warmth in the room that never existed before.
Once again, he has to remind himself that youâre paid to be here. But itâs hard not to like you, because even when Jade was living here, he felt alone, whereas having you around makes it hard to ignore that life doesnât feel all that empty anymore.
ââââŕ¨ŕ§ââââ
âWhich oneâs yours?â
You look over to the man sitting next to you on the dance studio bleachers. Young girls hop and whirl over the glossy hardwood floor in a sea of pink tutus, five minutes into their lesson.
âOh, Iâm...â You point to Ella. âHer nanny.â
Ellaâs been in ballet for a few weeks now and itâs all she talks about. Zachâs schedule allows him to take her to most of her classes, but this is the second one youâve come to and you can see just how much she enjoys it.
You make small-talk with the man and a few other parents, which makes the time pass quickly. When you get back to the house, Ella scarfs down her dinner and falls asleep during the first book you read her. Youâre sitting in the living room when Zach comes home from training.
Heâs nearing playoff season and heâs mentioned that he has much more practices booked in his schedule. At this point, he welcomes how you always pretend to accidentally make too much food. He doesnât expect you to prepare meals for him, but after youâd reassured him that you donât mind since youâre cooking anyway, heâs relieved to know heâll have dinner waiting for him tonight.
âHey,â you greet him from your spot on the couch. âBallet was the best idea ever. It really tires her out. Bedtime was a breeze.â
âRight?â Zach says with a smile, pulling off his jacket. You look away to avoid gaping at his biceps under his t-shirt. You thought he was good-looking the moment you met him and getting to know him has only made him more attractive.
âIâve been wanting to ask if youâd like any help with her birthday,â you offer, turning the tv off and standing up. Ellaâs fifth birthday is in a month.
âI have some ideas for her party that Iâd like your opinion on,â Zach tells you. âDo you want to stay for a few minutes? Or I can just text you.â
âI can stay.â
Heâs relieved to hear it. He doesnât have many moments with you alone. Usually youâre like passing ships in the night, chatting for just a couple of minutes to catch each other up about Ella before one of you leaves the house, so any window of time with you is something he welcomes. Your presence is comforting.
You sit at the kitchen island together. Zach eats as you scroll through his phone, gazing at screenshots of party ideas he saved.
âOh, sheâd love this,â you say, stopping at a photo of ballerina-themed cupcakes. He gazes at you in awe as you look down at the screen. Youâre genuinely delighted at the idea of giving his little girl a perfect birthday. âDo you want to have the party here?â
âYeah, do you think thatâs a good idea?â he asks.
âYeah. If youâre worried about decorating or cleaning up, Iâd come early and stay late,â you tell him, continuing to scroll. âShe deserves something big.â
He nods, swallowing down his food, too distracted to go for another bite. He canât wrap his head around how sweet you are. You have no connection to Ella at all, but you treat her like sheâs yours. Sometimes more than her own mother did.
Youâve been here for nearly four months now, which in the grand scheme of things really isnât that long, but he likes that you have such a deep sincerity to you that he can trust that you care about Ella. That you wonât leave.
You look up at him and he glances away, worried heâs been caught staring, clearing his throat.
âDo you know how many people youâre thinking of inviting?â you ask as you hand him back his phone.
Zachâs face falls as he scratches the back of his neck. Youâre suddenly tense, the air of familiarity between you now thick and uncomfortable.
âIâm not sure,â he says.
âSorry,â you say, nervous you crossed a line. âI didnât mean to overstep.â
âYou didnât,â he reassures you. âSorry. Iâve just been going back and forth on whether I should invite her grandparents. From her momâs side, I mean.â
âThat must be hard,â you empathize.
âTheyâve offered to visit a few times, but Ella hated the idea. She doesnât even want to talk to them on the phone.â
âWas she like that before?â You donât have to spell it out for him to know what you mean by before. The topic of Ellaâs momâs abandonment has been a silent cloud hanging over both of you.
âNo,â Zach says. âI think she makes the connection that theyâre her momâs parents and she doesnât want to be reminded of her.â
His lips close into a firm line.
âWell, I admire how you respect her comfort level and let her make decisions,â you say. âMaybe you start the conversation about who to invite and mention the grandparents to gauge her reaction?â
Zach nods, trying not to let his heart get carried away with the way it pounds from your words. Heâs received compliments on his parenting from his friends and family, but you see the type of father he is more than anyone else these days. He cares about your opinion and it feels good to hear you approve.
âThatâs a good idea,â he says. His fork clatters against his dish and he takes a deep breath before asking whatâs been spinning in his head. âI figure youâd tell me, but⌠she hasnât mentioned her mom, has she?â
You shake your head no. His forehead wrinkles in concern and it sends a pang to your chest. You lean a little closer, crossing the invisible boundary between you for the first time.
âShe could just be processing,â you tell him. âAnd it might take her a while to talk about it. But sheâs okay. Sheâs resilient. She got it from you.â
Zach hopes that heâs not blushing, but his cheeks are burning. Heâs sure youâd be able to tell, but thankfully, you look down and stand straight again, as if what you just said wasnât one of the most significantly unforgettable things heâs ever been told.
Ella is practically a physical copy of her mother. Zach never minded. But hearing that you think his daughter inherited his adaptability, one thing heâs always prided himself on, feels good.
He wasnât very confident that heâs been doing a great job at adjusting since Jade left and you just lifted a weight off his shoulders without even realizing it.
âThank you,â he says. You desperately want to ask how heâs been since his wife left, but youâre afraid youâve already crossed a line with your boss tonight and you certainly donât want to risk doing it again.
âSure,â you reply. âI should go. But Iâll let you know if I think of any ideas for the party. I think the ballerina theme is the way to go. This place will be so pink.â
Zach laughs, trying to ignore the way his chest hollows when you expand the distance between you, stepping away.
âCanât wait,â he says. âThanks for dinner.â
âThere were leftovers,â you reply, even though both of you are already well aware that every time you say that, itâs not true.
ââââŕ¨ŕ§ââââ
Itâs only half an hour into Ellaâs birthday party and youâre spent. Youâre reaching for napkins from the cupboard to clean up a spill in the dining room. When you turn out of the kitchen, a girl runs past you, tripping and accidentally pouring most of her juice onto your dress.
âSorry,â she says worryingly, eyes wide as she stares up at you.
âItâs okay,â you reply with a giggle, dabbing at the fabric with one of the napkins. âI came prepared.â
Zach just entered the room, witnessing the moment, wondering if heâs ever going to see you do anything that wonât just push him deeper into his crush on you. But once again, his head is no match for his heart when it comes to you.
Heâs been trying not to lose his mind today and itâs not because of the chaotic party thatâs taken over his house. Itâs because itâs the first time heâs seen you in a dress. While itâs appropriate for the occasion, it shows enough of your figure to make his mouth go dry.
You toss the napkin in the garbage, collect more, then start to make your way to the dining room, looking up to find Zachâs eyes.
âHey,â you say over the noise. He realizes that your voice somehow settles his pulse and makes it race at the same time. âThere might not be enough napkins in the world for this party.â
âInvite everyone she wants,â he teases, imitating the way you convinced him to go along with Ellaâs idea to invite all twelve kids from her ballet class.
âI take it back,â you chuckle. When you move past him, the fresh scent of his cologne dances over you and itâs so nice that you donât want to leave his side. But you shake away the thought and tidy up the spill, then head to the living room to mingle.
Itâs better to keep your distance from Zach. You have to remind yourself of it almost every day now. Youâd been spending more time together to plan Ellaâs party and at this point, itâs actually frustrating how kind and funny and charming and perfect he is.
It took a few evenings of party-planning at the house, your voices low as Ella slept upstairs, to start to get to know each other outside of your job. Youâve learned little things about him, like that heâs left-handed, and that he has a sister ten years younger than him and growing up with her helped him practice parenting, and that he likes a cup of tea before bed because it relaxes him.
You also noticed that he drifts into a more timid version of himself whenever the topic of his profession comes up. Youâd mentioned that Ella could eventually grow an interest in soccer, that youâd take her to one of his home games if she wanted, and he nodded with a shy smile, saying he liked the idea.
Every side of him is intriguing, and while your conversations havenât fallen into anything too personal, you want to know more about him past the friendly distance that stands between you.
Ella quickly darts past Zach in the kitchen and he reminds her that tag is an outside game. Heâs relieved that she seems happy and careless today.
Heâd asked her about inviting her momâs parents and she answered with a quiet no. He called them to tell them that this birthday would be too difficult to celebrate together and they understood, opting to send a present in the mail.
Zach is glad he took your advice. As he rounds the corner, he sees you chatting with Ellaâs friendâs dad. You probably know him from ballet. Zach has spoken with him, too. He knows the man is divorced.
Jealousy swirls in his chest. He shouldnât care about you talking to another man. Even though youâve started to share more about your lives with each other and heâs pretty sure youâre single, you could have a boyfriend you havenât mentioned.
Again, while he tells himself not to feel things for you, itâs so much easier said than done. He has to look away, wondering why he feels like someone whoâs not even his is being taken from him.
All the stress leaves your body the minute the last attendee leaves through the front door. It was a great party, but it was exhausting.
Ellaâs eating her dinner as you, Zach, and his family tackle the mess. You make conversation with her while you clean the kitchen, happy to hear her rave about what a good birthday she had.
She asks if you can cuddle her for bedtime. Zach overhears and trudges into the kitchen, crumpled decorations in his hands. He rolled the sleeves of his shirt up and you try to ignore the fact that the mere sight of his forearms makes your stomach go numb with butterflies.
âItâs been a long day,â he says to you quietly. âI can take bedtime.â
âI got it,â you reply. He mirrors your smile. You like that heâs not the type of parent to be bitter that his own kid prefers you sometimes. Heâs just happy that Ellaâs happy.
When youâre leaning back in Ellaâs bed, chatting as you wait for her to doze off, her arm is draped over your body and her cheek is on your shoulder. Sheâs grown to be totally comfortable with you, always taking the opportunity to be affectionate.
Your eyelids are heavy as you ramble about what sheâll be doing with her grandparents and aunt in the next few days, as theyâll be staying in town for a bit. Zach gave you the next three days off since childcare will be covered.
âI heard your grandma say something about taking you to the beach tomorrow,â you tell her. âAre you excited?â
âWill you come, too?â she asks. You chuckle softly, kissing the top of her head.
âI have work, remember?â you tell her. You and Zach had decided long ago that you donât want to tell her youâre paid to be here, that your job is taking care of her. You always just refer to yourself as her dadâs friend.
âOkay,â she sighs. She lets out a big yawn. âIf I tell someone my birthday wish, will it not become true anymore?â
âIâm pretty sure the rule is that you can tell one grown-up,â you play along, âand itâll still come true.â She nuzzles in. You assume sheâll mention a gift she wanted but didnât receive today.
âI wished that you were my mommy,â she mumbles into the dark.
Your throat tightens and your heart sinks and you hate that the sweet, innocent child clinging onto you has to carry the weight of being abandoned. You kiss the top of her head again and try not to cry.
âI love you, okay?â you tell her. She nods and squeezes you tighter and within minutes, her breathing grows deeper.
When you head downstairs, you see that almost all of the mess has been tidied up. Zach is hauling a full garbage bag to the front door, giving you a tired smile when he sees you.
âDo you need any help withââ
âGo home,â he interrupts, faking irritation. You laugh in defeat.
âFine.â You step into the living room to say goodbye to his family, antsy to have some time to yourself so that you donât have to force down your tears any longer.
A few seconds after the door shuts behind you, Zach remembers that heâd set aside a container of leftover treats from the party for you.
You pace down the sidewalk into the cool evening air, unlocking your car remotely, unable to stop your tears from building. When you hear Zach call your name, you quickly wipe at your eyes, realizing youâve smudged your make-up.
âThere were leftovers,â he says when you turn to look at him.
âThatâs my line,â you try to joke. You take the container. âThanks.â
He notices the shine in your eyes immediately.
âAre you alright?â Zach asks softly. You gaze up at him, heart breaking a little more at the concern in his expression.
âJust a busy day,â you tell him.
âDid something happen?â
âNo,â you say quickly. âOrâ yeah, but I was going to tell you later. Without the tears.â You offer a pathetic laugh to break the tension, but heâs too worried to laugh, too.
âWhat is it?â he asks.
You look up to Ellaâs bedroom window. The first time youâd walked up to this house, you were oblivious to the fact that the two people living in it would steal your heart. You know you need to tell him what his daughter said. But youâd hoped youâd have more time to process it.
âBefore bed,â you say, your voice thin, âshe told me she wished I was her mom.â
It takes all the air out of Zachâs lungs. He opens his mouth to reply, but heâs without words. He crosses his arms, looking down at the pavement.
âI know. Itâs a lot,â you mumble. Your temples ache as more tears build up, frustrated that this is Zach and Ellaâs reality. âIt just makes me so sad. I donât want to say anything bad about your ex-wife, but I donât understand how she could just leave you two. Has she not called to check in on her? Or to wish her a happy birthday?â
Your heart starts to thrum even harder. Your words were impulsive, surprising you even though youâre the one who said them, and the fear that you just crossed a line and exposed your feelings for him rushes through you.
âNo,â is all Zach is able to say. He stares at you, speechless, biting the inside of his cheek.
âWhen Ella said⌠what she said, I told her that I love her,â you say. âI hope thatâs okay.â
âOf course it is,â he says, his tone tender. Your lips twist into a sad smile. You want to hug him. But you step back. Because heâs still your boss and you donât want him to think you canât remain professional. Youâre already anxious and regretful that you brought up Ellaâs mom.
âThank you,â you say. âI should go. Good night.â
Zachâs dazed the rest of the evening. He watches you drive off. He goes back inside to finish cleaning up. He spends time with his parents and sister, but soon heads upstairs to sleep, too distracted to keep up conversation.
His mind keeps him awake as he lies in bed. He stares up at the darkened ceiling, watching the shadow of the trees by his window rustle in the wind. In a matter of a minute, your relationship reached a new level of vulnerability.
And now that he has time to wade through his feelings, beneath the pain he feels for Ella and what she told you, he canât deny that his heart fluttered when you said you donât understand how someone could leave him and his daughter. Maybe you feel the same way about him.
This is not just a crush. Heâs falling for you.
ââââŕ¨ŕ§ââââ
You stare at the text Zach sent you a few minutes ago as you brush your teeth the next morning.
Sorry for bothering you on your day off but Ella has asked me about 50 times (give or take) if I can ask you to come to the beach today. I told her youâre busy but you know her. No pressure but weâd all love to have you. Would count as a work day, of course.
It was already hard to keep your feelings for Zach at bay when all you can think about is his smile and his voice and the way he makes you feel more comfortable than any man ever has, but now, youâre afraid it might be awkward when you see him. Youâd said something so heavy last night, then left abruptly.
Nonetheless, the love you have for Ella and the love youâre starting to have for Zach is louder than the worry youâre feeling.
You reply: Donât count it as work. Itâs how Iâd like to spend my day off. When and where?
A minute later, he sends you the address and time.
Itâs late morning when you text Zach that youâve arrived at the beach. He heads to the parking lot, leaving his parents, sister, and daughter by the shoreline so that he can speak to you alone. He hates that he was too in shock to thank you last night. But it was all so much to take in.
He spots you pulling a bag out of your trunk, greeting you with a soft âheyâ to not startle you. Itâs so nice to know that youâre here because you want to be.
You turn to see Zach in his swim shorts, his hair wet, water droplets scattered atop his muscles. You close the trunk, hoping he didnât catch the way your eyes lingered.
âHey. Whatâd you tell Ella about the âworkâ I had today?â you ask, trying to establish a lighthearted tone. âDid my boss let me leave early?â
âWe can say that,â he says with a smile. âHe sounds like a good guy.â
âHe is. Itâs my other boss thatâs kind of a nightmare,â you joke.
Zach takes you in, squinting a bit.
âYou donât really think of me as your boss, do you?â he asks, realizing he hates the implication. It makes him feel like even thinking about you as more than a friend is deeply unethical. Like thereâs a power imbalance and heâs taking advantage of it somehow.
You still for a moment.
âI mean, I donât know,â you chuckle. âIt doesnât feel like it, but arenât you?â
âI guess.â His brows furrow. âIt just doesnât sound right.â
âHow about we say⌠Ellaâs my boss? And yours, too, now that I think about it.â
Zach laughs, âThat works for me.â He nervously crosses his arms. âUh⌠before we go, I wanted to thank you for handling last night so well. I think you said exactly what she needed to hear.â
Your face drops slightly. Remembering the way Ella sounded when she told you her wish, resigned but hopeful, breaks your heart every time you think about it.
âOf course,â you say. Itâs a relief that heâs not upset about anything you said. âIs she doing okay?â
âOh, yeah. Being her usual self. I didnât tell her you were coming, so sheâll be excited.â The way you smile at the idea of making her happy is something heâs grown to adore about you.
You make your way to the shoreline, and as expected, Ella squeals when she sees you, running straight for you. You crouch to hug her tightly, thrilled that you were invited today.
You sit on a line of towels with Zach and his parents and his sister while Ella explains to you what kind of sandcastle she wants to make. You make conversation with everyone over the soothing sounds of the waves crashing against the shore and eventually, you point out a small rubber ball by the cooler.
âYou wanna play soccer?â you ask Ella.
âIâm not good at it,â she replies.
âYou have the best coach right here,â you say, pointing to Zach. âLetâs give it a try. Maybe we can all work together to score a goal against your dad.â
Zach smiles in surprise when Ella actually agrees. You help him create a makeshift goal line with pebbles and shells as Ella kicks the ball over the sand with her grandparents and aunt. After you set up, you join Ella while Zach makes an exaggerated show of stretching.
âIs that how you always warm up?â you ask him.
âIs there something wrong with it?â he answers. Ella laughs as he dramatically stretches. By now, you can tell by the type of dad he is that he was always on the playful side.
Ella imitates his stretching, then determination flashes over her face and she darts forward to try to kick the ball past him without warning. Zach pretends to be too slow to react, reaching after the ball has already whizzed past him, and lets out a defeated groan.
He picks his daughter up as she jumps in victory, jokingly demanding she tell him when she got so good at soccer. You smile as you watch them share a moment of joy in the sun.
âElla, would you ever want to go to one of your dadâs games?â you offer.
âYeah!â she exclaims.
âYeah?â Zach says. âWhy donât you say yeah whenever I ask?â
âJust take the win, Zach,â you say with a laugh. He grins, loving the way his name sounds when it comes from you.
You enjoy the rest of the afternoon, talking with Zachâs family, playing with Ella, catching glances at Zach when heâs not looking. They invite you to dinner, but you politely decline, figuring you should give them time alone. You thank them for the fun and go home feeling lighter than you did when you woke up.
That evening, as Connie helps Zach clean up after dinner, she mentions how good you are for Ella. He glances down at his mom as she hands him a rinsed plate to put in the dishwasher.
âShe really is,â Zach agrees.
âI think sheâs good for you, too,â she says with a hint of a smile.
âReal subtle, Mom,â he chuckles nervously. âItâs not like that.â
âAlright,â she says with an unconvinced tone. She takes a beat. âI just need to sayââ
âOf course you do,â he mumbles with an amused smirk.
ââthat I havenât seen you this happy in a long time,â she speaks over him. âI havenât seen you be you. But you are again, especially when sheâs around. Itâs just nice to see you smiling so much again. I know things have been tough for you.â
Zachâs teeth dig into his bottom lip. His mom is right; things have been tough, even before Jade left. He desperately wanted companionship, to at least come home to someone he could call a friend, but Jade couldnât give him what he needed. He hasnât felt full of life in a long time. Not until you knocked on his door.
âIâm better now,â he says.
Connie nods, sadness filling her features as she pulls Zach in for a side-hug.
âHey, Iâm alright,â he consoles her. âDon't worry about me.â
âYouâre a parent. You should know the worrying never stops.â She pulls back. âSo, youâre really going to deny it? I see the way you look at her.â
Zach shakes his head with an exaggerated scoff.
âYouâre relentless,â he jokes.
âYou used to tell me everything.â
âThereâs nothing to tell.â
âAlright,â she sighs. âShe looks at you the same way, you know.â
âMom.â
Connie laughs and hands him another plate. He knows that the idea of you looking at him the way he looks at you wonât leave his mind any time soon.

Thanks for the peer review o7 i will use this power for ramble
I do think that a lot of the fic sex/romance issues were started in a genuine push to not spread misinformation, bc iirc fics used to parrot a lot of common myths re: intercourse (even moreso than now), especially ones about non-"traditional" non-cishet practices. And safety. And anatomy.
Which, it's cool and good to see a push for sex positivity and education! But I do feel there's now a pressure (internal or external) for the sexual aspects of fic to be textbook safe, sane, and consensual in all avenues.
I have 2 main reasons (beyond fic â sex ed) that the squeaky clean route shouldn't be our only route. Which are: characterization, and erotica vs romance.
Firstly, characterization:
Intimacy can be an amazing way to explore characters, a relationship, or even a setting in your story. You can miss out on a lot by treating sex as simply a lesson rather than a tool in your narrative toolbelt!
Tbh I think the reason gen z ppl (like me) often say we "hate sex scenes" in media is bc they feel unnecessarily explicit or unnecessary in general, and we often don't have the language for what the problem is. Or we misattribute the ickiness to sex scenes happening at all!
I'm grayace and they can be boring af, or sometimes creepy as hell for reasons unrelated to the narrative (stop auteur directors now! /hj).
But one of my fave fave fave book series is the Binding Light trilogy by Freya Marske (I think the author's on tumblr actually), in which the sex scenes are narratively pivotal. And I, the sex scene hater, love the series sm I didn't even have to look up the title or author just now!! Unheard of!!!
These books are so dear to me bc the intimate scenes mirror both the (wonderful, superb) magic system AND the characters' relationships! Their sexual vulnerability and connection evolves alongside the characters' development. I've never before rambled about breathplay as a metaphor for trust, but Marske had me writing ESSAYS. My apologies to my friends' DMs
At first I had skipped those sex scenes, but once I had to go back for plot info, actually reading them made me go "oh holy shit this is all important".
I think stories miss that relevence pretty often. You don't NEED to have sex scenes, but also you CAN have them wherever it feels right.
IMO It's important to treat intimacy (of all kinds) in a work as character exploration first, rather than purely mile markers or something for characters (and writers) to "get a good grade in"
Moving on to erotica vs romance:
I've recently been watching a lot of SAVY WRITES BOOKS on youtube, and in one of her CoHo reviews she talked about the difference between works labelled "erotica" and "romance".
To her, romance novels have a sense of realism, they exist in a world that functions (at least adjacently) like ours. A romance would treat consent and safe sex like we do irl (or some historical equivalent based on setting). Basically, characters wouldn't be able to smash in a subway car without getting charged with public indecency.
Thus, if the characters were practicing BDSM, they would on some level acknowledge they're performing a scene (ex. consent check-ins and safewords). Here we have some level of RACK. Or if its unhealthy, there's framing acknowledging that fact!
Whereas erotica exists inside that BDSM scene! An erotic fic that tags its kinks and content correctly has given you enough for you to have informed consent. If you read the fic, you will thus be reading the "fantasy" of a BDSM scene. We know this isn't necessarily realistic or healthy, and that's fine! We read it with the knowledge it's not meant to be!
Uhhhh so. This was a really long way for me to explain "fanfic isn't sex ed so it's fine if they don't always use contraceptive"
tl;dr Intimacy and sex are cool for characterization. And smut is a Scene, if a person is informed of its contents all consent is accounted for :)
authorâs notes today: hey guys so just a warning there isnât 100% explicit verbal consent even though theyâre both really into it so remember this is FICTION, also they donât use a condom :((( but in real life safe sex is important!!! please be safe out there everyone
a/n back in the day: kept thinking about ____ stabbing knives through both of _____âs hands to pin him in place while they fucked so here you go lol =P
#nsft#fanfic#im using that bc its relevent gdi#cw sex mention#i am sorry mutual and op but. i had an excuse to rant about one of my favorite books series#and intimacy as a characterization vehicle can be SO COOL#i spent too much time on this i need dinner#harp rambles

Not sure if you are taking request but can we get an angst with Matt where like reader and him are dating for years but recently comments have been getting to her or people have been following her home and eventually she decideds to break up with Matt but Matt takes things to in his hands where heâs tells ppl to stop and they get back together?(Lol sorry if it didnât make sense but thank you)
đđ new messege .á.á
Hey gorgeous, I really liked this idea, I hope you like it too.
You are the only thing I want - Matt Sturniolo
Sumary: You and Matt had a secret relationship and when you decide to make it public everything goes wrong...
Warnings: angst hate messages towards reader, this is just angst with a happy ending
A/n: Leave me ideas to write in my inbox because I'm running out of ideas. I'm sorry if something is misspelled or not understood. My first language is not English. By the way, what do you think of my new theme, in my opinion, it's very cute like the baby pink and light brown. đŠˇđ§¸
â§Â°ă âŕźş ⮠༻âă °â§
It had been exactly fourteen months since the first time you and Matt kissed. You hadn't imagined then how important he would become in your life, nor that being with him would be so complicated. Because, although you adored each other and the bond between you grew every day, that relationship had to be kept secret. It was a mutual decision, made for practical reasons. At first, the thrill of secrecy made everything more exciting. But now, you both felt exhausted.
You had spent too many nights talking secretly in the car, dates arranged down to the last detail so as not to be seen, or moments of solitude where, instead of shouting to the world how much you loved each other, you had to hide it like a forbidden secret. The situation was starting to weigh on you.
That night, you were on the couch at Matt's house. He was holding you, and your head was resting on his shoulder while you felt his fingers playing with the strands of your hair.
"Aren't you tired of this?" he asked quietly, breaking the silence.
You raised your head and looked at him, searching his eyes for what he really wanted to say.
"What are you talking about?"
"About having to hide⌠about not being able to tell anyone how amazing you are." Matt smiled, but his eyes reflected a sadness that you shared.
"Of course I'm tired. Sometimes I wish we could be a normal couple".
"Then let's do it", he suggested, giving your hand a squeeze. "Let's make it public. I don't care what others say. I want to be with you, and I want everyone to know it."
The idea made you feel butterflies in your stomach. The love you had for Matt was bigger than any fear, and the fact that he was willing to share your relationship with his fans made you feel special. You decided to announce it on social media.
When Matt uploaded the first photo of the two of you together, you felt a mix of excitement and nervousness. The image showed an intimate moment, a selfie of the two smiling on the beach, with the sunset in the background. The caption was simple but powerful: âOver a year together, and weâre just getting started.â
For the first few hours, the response was overwhelmingly positive. There were comments from fans congratulating and supporting them: âThey look beautiful together,â âFinally someone makes Matt happy as he deserves,â âWhat a great couple they make!â
But over time, other types of messages began to appear. âHer? Is he really with her?â, âSheâs not enough for him,â âSheâs only with him for fame, Iâm sure sheâll use him to become famous,â âPoor Matt, he deserves someone better.â
At first, you tried not to take them seriously. But every time you checked your phone, more of those comments appeared. There were people criticizing your appearance: âSheâs too basic for someone like him,â âSheâs not even pretty, how dare she date Matt?â, âMatt deserves someone more attractive.â
The words cut you deeply. You knew you shouldnât let those comments affect you, but you couldnât stop the doubts from starting to poison your mind. Every time you looked in the mirror, you started to see those flaws that others mentioned. Insecurity began to invade you in a way you hadnât experienced before.
Matt tried to comfort you whenever he noticed you looking down. Sometimes, during the night, he would catch you reading the comments on your phone, and he would simply take the phone away from you and hold you, whispering that he loved you and that was all that mattered.
âYou donât need to listen to those people, babe,â he said, looking at you with a sincere expression. âThey donât know anything about you, they donât know how amazing you are.â
The comments didnât stop, though. Every day they became crueler and crueler. Rumors began to circulate suggesting that you were only with Matt to gain followers, or that you were using his fame to make yourself known. People commented on every aspect of your life, from how you dressed to how you looked without makeup. There were those who said things like, âItâs obvious that she dresses like that to get attention, canât she dress up better?â or âShe should thank Matt for giving her a chance, sheâs just an ordinary girl.â
At some point, comments were no longer the only thing. People started following you home, taking photos of you without your permission, and even trying to get close to you to ask you invasive questions. You felt watched and judged at every turn, and little by little, you started to believe that you weren't enough, that maybe all those people were right.
The pressure began to be unbearable. Your self-esteem plummeted, and every time you looked in the mirror, you saw someone who, according to the world, wasnât enough. Matt tried to cheer you up, to remind you how much he loved you, but you couldnât stand it anymore.
One night, after one of your most difficult conversations, you asked him to meet you. Matt came over to your house, and as soon as you saw him, he knew something was wrong. He stared at you in silence as you searched for the words to say to him.
âMatt⌠I canât do this anymore,â you whispered, your voice shaking.
âWhat are you saying?â he asked, frowning, clearly worried.
âI canât be in this relationship anymore. The pressure, the comments⌠theyâre tearing me apart. I canât take it anymore.
Matt looked at you, unable to process what you were saying. He was trying to understand, but the pain in your eyes made it clear to him that you were really hurt.
âBut⌠I love you, and I donât care what other people think. They donât understand what we have.â
âI know, Matt. I know you love me, but I canât go on like this. Iâm losing myself in all of this.â It's getting harder and harder to get up and pretend everything is okay.
You took a deep breath, trying to hold back your tears. âMatt⌠I canât keep going like this. I canât handle the pressure, the comments, the people following me everywhere. I feel like Iâm losing myself, and I donât want to drag you into this. I think⌠I think itâs best that we break up.â
The goodbye was hard and heartbreaking for both of us. In the days that followed, Matt stayed away from social media, not mentioning anything about what had happened. He isolated himself, trying to understand how the love of his life had to walk away because of the cruelty of others.
Weeks went by as you tried to get over the situation, even though you felt empty. However, one afternoon, while you were checking your social media, you noticed a post from Matt that surprised you.
It was a photo of you and him that Nick had taken, and the message was clear and direct: âI don't give a shit what others say about my girlfriend. I'm with her because I love her, and that's never going to change.â
Matt's public statement was not only a message to his fans, but a promise that he was willing to stand up for what they had. Feeling a torrent of emotions, you decided to call him. When he answered, his voice trembled with emotion.
"I can't go on without you" he said quietly, while you tried to hold back your tears.
"Me neither, Matt⌠I love you."
That night, they met again, and between tears and hugs, they knew that this time there would be nothing and no one that could separate.

Hi! Sorry if this is weird or anything, this is my first time sending an ask lol
But I just finished reading your writing about the singer/influencer reader and omfg I love your brain. Like imagine the reader did a cover of/wrote like spit in my face by ThxSoMch or Cigarette Ahegao by Penelope Scott (love her sm btw-) cause just imagine the GUILTTT
Imagine the Batfam listening to their music and just hearing the bitterness in their voice as they sing âScrewing everything up, doing everything wrong, In my defence I wasnât supposed to be around this long, soâ HGDECANZZKNFBVD
Anyway, I love your writing and I hope you have an absolutely amazing week! Take care of yourself too- drink water, eat some food and try to get some sleep ml <3
Nah anon you're cool. I love reading asks. ALSO credits to Luludelulusramblings, they made the originally made Influencer reader. Batfam belongs to DC as usual. Singer reader post: here
You know, in the Art History year 1901-1904, Picasso started the Blue Period where he only painted in the shades of Blue. It started due to the death of his friend, later his financial struggles, and of course the current state of the society. Blue Period art was so good but so doleful and depressing that no one wants to hang it in their house. Singer! Reader started their career covering mainstream songs, band songs, maybe even vocaloid.Â
Their blue period started months before they planned to leave the manor. It was a simple cover of MARINAâs âAre you satisfied?â A lot of burnt out overachievers ate that cover, even Tim himself. The song is basically the reader questioning the Wayne last name. Sure it was a goldmine to others but to them itâs a ticket to misery. One song cover turned into many song covers, enough to make a long playlist to play at 3 a.m. when youâre about to have a breakdown.Â
The whole playlist? Batfam avoids it because it reminds them of the times they could have been giving you love but they didnât BUT at the same time they canât really avoid it. It became like those guilty pleasures playlist. Damian loves and hates readerâs âThe Family Jewelsâ cover because it reminds him of the fact that he and the reader are basically on the same boat. They were just children who needed attention and love. He got that attention and love immediately because of the whole league of assassins backstory. He wonât admit it but the weight of the role weighs like tonnes of iron on his shoulders.Â
Jason, Bruce and Cigarette Ahegao will roll together so much. That man has twice the amount of trauma Bruce had and his coping mechanism sucks. All the aggressiveness was just a coping mechanism, underneath heâs a man with conflicted feelings and those years of being dead and suddenly being resurrected didnât help. Letâs face it Bruce is a tired man who lives a double life. He's a man who dresses up like as a bat making sure the city is safe but he can't cover all grounds. The neglect on reader was unintentional but neglect is neglect.
Dick with readerâs cover of âStressed outâ by Twenty one pilots, no explanation needed. âThis is me tryingâ by Taylor Swift with Cassandra, Stephanie, and Tim. Cassandra and Stephanie being raised by villains and Tim being an overachiever to have his parentâs attention. His parents being always away and realizing he basically did the same thing to the reader by making them feel invisible.Â
Double guilt if they left the playlist on autoplay and âDaddy issuesâ plays. Any version but I think the original fits the bill. Reader ends their blue period with a cover of Mother Motherâs âBurning Pileâ basically saying âYeah fuck it, itâs over. Iâm burning it, Iâm leaving it, Iâm closing the chapterâ. But to the Batfamily, it meant renewal and turning a new leaf, an invitation to make things better.

Hello! Here to say hi! Your post appeared on my scroll and I noticed you have just one, so I figured you might be new around here! Welcome to Tumblr! I hope you find your crowd soon enough! đ
In the meantime, do you mind telling me something about Jason Todd? I've never been too deep into DC, but I recognize his name. I'd love to hear your headcannons/thoughts about him! đ
Hi! Thanks for welcoming me :) I've actually been lurking on tumblr for a while before I finally got the confidence to start writing.
Here's a short basic rundown of Jason: Jason Todd is the second person to take the mantle of Robin after Dick Grayson. Batman caught him stealing the wheels off the Batmobile in a dark alleyway one night and took him in. He was more rebellious and he didn't like Batman's moral code. Fans actually voted to kill him off in the series. Jason would be beaten by the Joker with a crowbar and left to die with his mother inside a warehouse with a time bomb. He would later be resurrected by Talia Al Ghul in the Lazarus Pit and took the mantle of Red Hood. He would use guns and violence when it came to crime fighting. When he found out that Batman didn't avenge him in any way, he felt betrayed and let his anger out on Gotham's criminals. He believed that they deserved a worse punishment.
âââ シ ・ďžâ: *.â˝ .* :âďž. âââ
Jason Todd Headcannons
He loves to bake, especially cookies. He'll bake other pastries every now and then, but his go to is cookies. It's something he'll never admit to his family, other than Alfred. He'll drop off some to his brothers sometimes with an insulting note; he would say they're poisoned just to mess with Tim
Whenever he has free time, he's in the library. Sometimes he'll be at the public library if he doesn't want to see his family. Other times he'll be in the Manor looking at whatever new books Alfred and Damian bought
It's actually canon that Jason likes to read books like Pride and Prejudice, and The Art of War, among many others
He loves to bother his brothers whenever he can
He loves to swing by GCPD when Dick is working just to mess with him. He might even go as far as faking an emergency just for the emergency to be him wanting to say a quick fuck you
Dick has banned him from coming within a 20-foot radius of GCPD. He also threatened to arrest him if he got close
It doesn't stop Jason. He has yet to be arrested because they technically can't arrest a dead man
He'll mess with Tim at any time. His things will slowly go missing; his mugs, coffee, important papers, you name it.
One time when Tim left his place unattended, Jason moved everything an inch to the left. It drove Tim crazy. More crazy than he already was considering he hadn't slept for the past two days. He'll get Jason back one day
What he does with Damian is a 50/50. Sometimes he'll spar with him for fun. Just a quick training exercise or he's actually trying to kill the demon spawn, who knows. Other times they're both reading silently in the corner of the library.
They won't talk about it after
Definitely broke into Wayne Enterprises way too many times
He had no reason to go in. He just wanted to bother Bruce or Tim. Or both
Definitely both
Has been escorted out multiple times with Bruce watching with his head in his hands
That man is stressed lmao
Definitely picks up Damian from school with white girl music blasting at full volume. The bass is cranked up to the point where you can feel it inside the school
Damian hates it so much because his classmates find Jason pretty cool and they keep trying to talk to him about Jason
Later banned from picking Damian up from school

I have the issue of the fact I love to write angst, but hate unhappy endings. My characters are extensions of myself, the way I express empathy and understand the world, it would feel cruel to put them through all of that and not let them come out the other side happy. Iâll have them go through absolute hell and back, but I always want them to be okay and get to smile at the end.
someone sedate this man.
#I love angst and love writing it#but they deserve some rest after all that#I get way too emotionally invested in my worlds to not give them that happy ending l

Hi!! I saw that you write for Arcane and had a really cute idea for Vander. I donât really see a lot of fics where you get to see Vanderâs reactions to the reader either playing with the kids or comforting them, so I thought a fic centered around that might be cute? (I think also having a bit of slow burn would be sweet, like both Vander and the reader like each other but donât do anything about it until getting a little push from the kids because they ship).
ONE LITTLE PUSH
Reblogs and Comments are greatly appreciated!!

Vander wasnât quite sure why you stuck around for so long.Â
In fact, he wasnât sure why you stuck around in the first place.Â
But⌠As Vander watches you with the kids. His kids. He begins to understand why.Â
You were kind, unyieldingly so. Even as Mylo grew to start picking on Powder, even as they fought, you were kind and patient and offered them the unending gentle love they all so craved.Â
The love he couldnât afford to give them because who could be gentle in the Undercity? Especially in the depths of the Lanes?
You could.Â
Vander was in the middle of pouring a drink when Powder tumbled into The Last Drop. She was covered in bruises and dust from something. Or someone. She barely met his gaze as she clambered to her feet and all but sprinted into the back where they all slept. Vander looked through the multitude of customers and spotted you.Â
You had obviously seen Powder go bolting, worry twisting your face as you glanced toward the bar and met his stare. You arched an eyebrow, and he shrugged. You rolled your eyes and sighed before smiling in jest and getting up from where you had been tinkering with the jukebox.Â
Vander finally manages to get away from his chatty clients and makes his way back into the back room nearly fifteen minutes later.Â
Only to pause by the door.Â
ââylo hates me! He does, I swear!â Powder cries, and you hush her gently, dabbing what looks to be some of the antiseptic you have lying around on her cuts and bruises. Disinfectant was hard to come by, especially in the Lanes, but you were seemingly magic in the sense that you always knew who to talk to to get some. It seems you had worked your magic yet again.Â
âDid Mylo say that he hates you?â You ask gently, whispering a quiet âsorryâ under your breath as she flinched with the sting of the antiseptic.Â
Powder pauses, thinking what had to be her earlier conversation over,Â
âWell⌠NoâŚâ She mumbles, and you hum,Â
âCan I give you my honest opinion?â You ask, and she stills, looking up at you with wide eyes before nodding.Â
âArenât you always honest with us?â She asks. You chuckle at that.Â
âI suppose I am. But I donât think Mylo hates you. Does he find you a bit annoying? Maybe. But every big brother thinks that about their younger siblings. I know mine did.â You say, and Powder mulls your words over and over and over in her mind.Â
She always did overthink things.Â
âI didn't know you had a big brother.â She says eventually, and you let out a loud laugh at that.Â
âYou are a silly girl for focusing on that. But yes, I came from a big family. And guess what? I was the baby of the family. Just. Like. You.â You say, emphasizing your words with a pinch to her side. Powder squeals with laughter and wriggles away to escape your dastardly tickling.Â
Vander hangs his head with a huff and a smile before turning to head back to the bar counter. He can hear your conversation continue as Powder escapes your grasp.
âNow, where did you get all these bruises from?â
âUm⌠Vi taught me parkour from Topside downâŚâ
âPowder! Youâre like seven!â
âSeven and a half! And she said I was ready!â
Ever since you began to stick around, you had become something of a parent figure to the four little children Vander had come into care for.Â
To Vi and Powder especially.Â
So when Mylo burst into The Last Drop with the words of a fistfight on his tongue, you were the first one out the door.Â
Vander was close behind.Â
Mylo led you and Vander deep into the Undercity. In fact, it was so far into the Undercity that Vander was worried they were getting into some dark territory.Â
Like⌠Really dark territory.Â
But soon enough, the sounds of a fight were heard, and soon after, you were deep in the throng of a multi-person fistfight. Everyone paused for a second when they saw you and then stopped altogether when they spotted Vander not far behind.Â
You began to pull people off and shoved them out of the way. You did this again and again, ducking under a few stray punches until you managed to unearth Vi.Â
She wasnât looking too hot.Â
Her face was bruised and swollen, and the fifteen-year-old spat out a wad of blood as she bared her bloody teeth and prepared to fight again.Â
At least until she saw you.Â
It was as if the tension had been released from her shoulders.Â
She all but slumped into your grasp, and you stumbled back a step with the sudden weight. Vander yanked the last person away from you both and scooped up his adoptive daughter. She leaned her head into the crook of his neck and was obviously fighting back tears.Â
Mylo was hunched over, hands on his knees, and wheezed from all the sprinting.Â
âVi? Violet, can you hear me?â You said as soon as you all returned to The Last Drop, and Vander set her down on the couch. Powder and Claggor had been found a block away, fighting off more thugs from whoever sent them after the literal children.Â
He would've pummeled them to a pulp if Vander hadnât hung up his gauntlets years before.Â
Viâs head lolled from side to side, and you shone a pocket flashlight into her eyes, watching as her pupils dilated and contracted. You were experienced at this, taking care of people, even more so than he thought.Â
Were you a doctor deep in your past?Â
As Vander thought about it, he realized he didnât know practically anything about you. Your past, your likes, dislikes, he knew you were good with machines and medicine and that you came from a big family. But that was it.Â
And that hurt his heart.Â
You ended up ushering everyone out of the room while you worked on caring for Vi. Vander closed the bar early and was in the middle of putting chairs on tables when you emerged. Powder, Mylo, and Claggor dropped what they were doing. They scampered to your side, a chorus of âHowâs Vi?â erupting from the kids. You offered them a tired smile and patted their heads.Â
âSheâll be okay. Sheâs resting right now. You can go in and see her if youâre quiet.â
And then it was the two of you.Â
Vander set the final chair on top of the table and meandered his way over where you were sitting at the bar, head in your hands.Â
You looked tired.Â
âIs she really okay?â He asked, and you grunted, rubbing at your temples.Â
âShe has a broken nose, fractured left arm, some bruised ribs, and a concussion. Which, all things considered, sheâs very lucky. It couldâve been a lot worse.â You say, and he sighs,Â
âDid she say why she got into the fight?â He replied, and you shrug,Â
âShe was protecting Powder. Then, more people started showing up until it was an all-out brawl. Thatâs when we stepped in.â You say, and his shoulders sag.Â
Vi was going to be okay.Â
âI donât think Iâve ever said it. But thank you. For everything youâve done. Taking care of them and all that.â He says, and you just hum.Â
âYou guys gave me a home after everything. Iâm just repaying my debt. Well⌠that and I love those kids.â You say, and he arches an eyebrow,
âAfter everything?â He inquires, and you glance up sharply as if not realizing what you had said.Â
Eventually, your gaze casts downward, and you run a hand over your head and through your hair.Â
âI was a doctor in Piltover before the rebellion. I was caught trying to help the Undercity before they were officially citizens and cast out.â You say, and his arched eyebrow raises even higher.Â
âA doctor? Were you any good?â You bark out a dry laugh at that,
âOne of the best!â Your voice cracks as you speak, and he feels his heart splinter into pieces.Â
Vander shouldâve known that Claggor and Mylo were up to something when they came in with sneaky grins on their faces.Â
The Last Drop was all but desolate. It was the wee hours of the morning before the people of the Undercity awoke to begin their day. But the door was unlocked, and the kids were allowed to run in and out as they pleased.Â
Which they had been doing a lot in the last hour or so.Â
âVander!â Mylor clamored for his adopted fatherâs attention, waving an excited hand as he scampered up to the counter. Claggor hung behind, ever the stoic young man. But there was mischief in their eyes and curling the corners of their mouths.Â
Vander slung the rag he used to wipe the counters down over his shoulder and leaned on the bar counter.Â
âWhat did you do now?â He teased, and Mylo all but squawked.Â
âWhen have I ever done anything?!â Vander just stared,Â
âDo you really want me to answer that?â He asked, and Claggor snickered at Myloâs deflated expression. Mylo quickly spun on a heel and jabbed a finger at his adopted brother,Â
âNot a word outta you, Claggor!â He snapped before spinning back as something dawned on him.
âYou gotta come with us!â He demanded, and Vander glanced between the two of them.Â
âWhy?â He asked, and Mylo let out an exaggerated groan.
âNo questions! Just come on!â He grabbed Vanderâs hand and tried tugging him around the counter and toward the front door.Â
Vander relented, locking the door behind him as he followed the two boys.Â
Only to realize very quickly what was actually going on.Â
His first tip-off was hearing Powder and Viâs voices, yours mixed in as you asked where you were going, why they were taking you, and what they were doing.Â
Vi answered no questions. Powder just chirped excitedly. âYouâll see! Youâll see!â
The six of you met in the middle of the street, Powder dragging you by your hand as you followed behind patiently. You glanced up from listening to Powder, and your gazes met. Vander felt his heart skip a beat as he took in your appearance. There wasnât anything particularly new, but you looked like you had cleaned up some. Your hair was pinned neatly back, and your clothes looked ironed.Â
You looked⌠Really nice.
âVander? Whatâs going on?â You asked, and Vi nudged you with her good arm. Her fractured left one was still healing carefully under your care.Â
âWeâre setting you two up.â She teased, and you stared dumbly.Â
âSetting us up how?â You asked, and now it was Powderâs turn to blurt out an answer,Â
âOn a date!âÂ
Before the two of you could react, all four kids all but disappeared around the corner in a cloud of dust. Leaving you facing Vander and utterly alone.Â
It was safe to say he was panicking just a little bit.Â
âVander? Do you have any idea what they meant?â You asked gently, and he scrubbed a hand down his face.Â
âMy guess is they want us to go on a date.â He said, fully prepared to hear rejection. Because who would want to go on a date with him? A middle-aged man with a stained past. His lungs twisted as he heard you take a step closer.Â
A smaller hand slipped into his, and he looked down from where he had been staring at Topside.Â
Your eyes were lit up, not with disgust at the proposition he was proposing.Â
But they were filled with hope for the future this relationship would bring.Â

HELLOOOO
I got a silly little ask, just a drabble from you would be fine đ
Like- the reader (gender neutral) wasn't very open about their hobbies and such. One of their hobbies was like martial arts or smth (THIS IS VERY CRUCIAL âď¸âď¸âď¸)
Wellll, one day Jimmy (đ¤Ž) decided to try and touch the reader inappropriately and they just throw him over their shoulder saying something along the lines of "Do NOT touch me."
I KNOW IT'S CRINGE BUT PLEASEEEE, IT WOULD BE SO FUNNY đđđđ
I saw you're writing for only Curly and Daisuke, but if you wanna you can add other characters into the mix. It's all platonic, just a silly little ask cuz I wanna laugh đđđ
[ Tulpar Crew & Reader ]
Oh I love this one. Also this reminded me to update my list thank u 4 unintentionally reminding me anon.,.,. ALSO DONT WORRY I DONT THINK IT'S CRINGE !
gender neutral reader, it gets silly later on i promise. not proof-read. wrote this really quick.
â ď¸ tw: stalking, jimmy being a little too forward and close
The day was pretty much mundane, like always. Everyone was in their designated work stations, including you of course. Though, something felt off. It had been like this for the past week, and you hated it. You even blamed your lack of sleep for it. It seemed like there was somethingâ someone, watching and following you when you were alone.
One time, you'd even woken up to the sound of your quarter's door closing. You stayed up all night, not wanting to inconvenience the other crew members for what you think might just be all in your head. Well, that is until psych evaluation day came and you opened up about this to Anya who so easily believed you, but seemed so uncomfortable with the topic. You decided not to pry out of respect. She offers her company when you need it.
That same night, Daisuke offered to host a game session to which everyone reluctantly agreed to.
Establishing good bonds between workers is key to an efficient working environment!
Anya, Swansea and Daisuke were sitting by the sofa, Curly dragged a chair just beside the game table, whilst you and Jimmy sat beside each other on the floor. The game involved four players and the crew decided that whoever loses first has to swap with whoever hasn't played yet for the next rounds. The game was getting heated, Daisuke and Anya, neck on neck. Unfortunately, not the only thing neck on neck. Everyone else was too focused on the game to even notice what Jimmy was doing. You can feel his breath against your skin. You eyed the others in hopes that they would see. Too busy. Annoyed and grossed out, you elbowed his ribs in warning, glaring at him. "Jimmy, don't touch me." He seems pissed, but that doesn't deter him from getting his entertainment. Jimmy presses on and you swear you felt your eyebrows twitch. The balls of this guy to even do this here.
Daisuke throws the dice, the three leans in in anticipation as they watch it slowly roll to a stop andâ
CRASH!
Some game pieces flew in different directions, two table legs snapping from the force and Jimmy's weight. It was radio silent for a moment. The crew having different variations of shocked expressions. You had grabbed his arm and flipped his body onto the furniture.
"Fuckin' pervert. Are you deaf, or what? I said do NOT touch me."
Daisuke threw his hands up in the air and settled it on each side of his head, frustrated. "Oh, come on, man! I was so close to winniâ!" His whining ceases when Swansea nudges him, instantly shutting up and processing what had just happened. It took a few blinks for him to register and he eventually bursts out laughing and pointing at Jimmy. It took everything from Swansea not to burst out laughing as well. Instead, he crosses his arms and huffs with a proud smile. 'Atta' kid.'
Anya on the other hand slips out a gasp, covering her mouth. Mostly out of shock, and no sympathy for the man whatsoever. When the other intern started laughing, she had to bite her lip and look away to suppress her own fit.
[ History of glenohumeral joint subluxation.
It happened way too fast for Jimmy to even process what just happened. He spits out something hard, probably a tooth. His shoulder slightly stings as well, probably dislocated. He'll get back at you some other time, he can't get back at you when everyone else is here and that pisses him off even more.
Curly had mixed feelings. But of course, he prioritizes his role and he has to mediate everything first and foremost. Rubbing his face, he sighs and stands up, putting his hands on his hips. He calls your name and you tilted your head to look up at him. "I have to discuss... this with you later on. Please drop by the cockpit, yeah?" You roll your eyes and nod, pouting. "Swansea, could we borrow your intern real quick?"
"Shift's over, go ahead."
He gives the eldest a nod. "Daisuke, please assist Anya. Help her bring Jimmy to medical."
"Youuuuu got it, Big C." He finger guns towards the captain then stands up to hover over the co-pilot. Curly could only give Daisuke an awkward smile at the nickname.
"Never call him that again."
"El Capitano." Daisuke helps Jimmy up, making sure he's pulling them up by the injured arm, making the man grit his teeth and groan in pain. Before the guy could even cuss at the intern, Swansea continued bickering.
"Do your damn job."
"Yessir. Swansir."
Anya and Daisuke finally went off the bring the poor injured co-pilot to treat him. And if you'd like to know, Anya taught Daisuke how to pull Jimmy's shoulder back to place. Yes, everyone heard him when it happened.
You helped Swansea clean up the mess by the lounge and in apology, offered to help repair the table the next day. He agrees and even offers Daisuke to assist you.
Curly had to lightly reprimand you for your actions, but you'd explained to him what happened. The best he could do for you for now is lie on the report.
Sustained through occupational accident.
Employee confirmed inebriated while working.
Property damage docked to Jimmy.]
