🍓 ⇢ how did you get into writing fanfiction? 

Ooh okay Kyler lore time! I’ve literally been writing fanfic since I was three or four, writing (and illustrating!) my own stories of my favorite childhood characters. I had two multigifted older siblings, so much of my early childhood was spent sitting still and quiet at band concerts, dance recitals, sports events and academic competitions. My mom always diligently packed me a bag of things to do, including books and stickers and blank notebooks to write and draw in. So I became a connoisseur of stories from a young age! But of course I didn’t know that it was called fanfiction, or that it was a hobby anyone else had. I soon moved onto writing my own stories with original characters.

The real answer to this is that I got big into Twilight fandom as a thirteen year old, and I happened across fanfiction dot net looking for content. After marveling at the fact that other people made up stories like this too? And shared them??? and after reading a few for myself, I thought, “I could totally do this too (and better.)” So I began my first true fanfic. And I’ve slipped in and out of writing since, but I always come back to it! It’s fun!

🥝 ⇢ do you lie a lot? what's the most recent lie you told?

I lie a lot to my students. They’re fourteen and nosy, and they don’t need to know everything about my life! I lie and tell them exciting things I did over the weekend. I lie when I do exciting things over the weekend that they wouldn’t understand. I lie and tell them that I’m single. I lie and tell them that yes, this worksheet is for a grade, so you have to do it. I think the last lie that I told a kid was just before we let out for the summer, that you’ll love that kind of summer job! It’ll be fun!

🧩 ⇢ what will make you click away from a fanfiction immediately?

There’s no one thing. If I’m trying to read something and it’s poorly written (ie unrealistic dialogue, really really bad grammar or formatting, characters acting OOC in a way that breaks immersion), I’ll call it quits. But that’s different for every fandom/set of characters. Sometimes I like the OOC-ness, and sometimes it’s too much. If the paragraphs are too long, I’ll either shove the fic in a screenreader instead, or just give up. (Usually if there are distractingly long paragraphs in a fic, that’s not the only writing problem the author has.)

I haven't heard all of her songs yet, so this'll just be out of the ones I know, and b. some of her songs can get pretty emotionally devastating, so I tend to not listen to the sadder ones as much, cause she's really good at making you Feel Emotions, and most of the time I'm not in the mood for that. So these ones will be some of her more upbeat/slightly sad songs, but if you like songs with sadder vibes, a lot of her songs which I won't mention here are really good for that

104 is fascinating for what it means regarding the 357A explosion. ty says that it ended up destroying over, in which case it very much should have been something that brought the base members into the line of fire? the potential explanations i can think of are:

the action was anchored in time via the boulders so there was no point in killing edgar or hunter, and there might have been more utility in keeping them alive

because it was mike in particular who was involved, over didn’t want to or couldn’t just constrike him or correct it because again, boulder anchoring (and a +1 to “mike heavily influences whatever flinch is so they can’t just get rid of him that easily” theory)

ty or the flinchites were fed false information

ty was actively fucking with mike by telling him over was gone (but this feels very unlikely)

Bernard dragged Curtis off to the quiet halls leading to the back of house. Elves here were scarce, given the action was all in the middle of the Workshop. And, y’know, the substantial ice garden of elves out back. Once they were far enough away that the noise had gone from a dull roar to a slight disturbance, Curtis finally spoke up.

“What was that all about?!”

“You licked me.”

“You covered my mouth! Desperate times call for desperate measures, Bernard. Is there an emergency? Did the tunnel collapse?”

“No! No. Everything’s fine. The tunnel is fine. We’ve got like five hundred meters left. Come on.”

Grabbing the elf by the shoulders, Bernard steered him up the back stairs and down the hall, even further from the crowds and fellow elves.

“Then why the look!”

“The look?”

“Yeah! Your ‘we-need-to-talk-right-now-IMMEDIATELY’ look!”

“My what? I don’t have a look like that.”

“Yes you do! Your face gets all wide and your eyes go all big and you look like you're seconds away from lockjaw. You should look into a night guard or something. Want me to book you in with Dr. Maple? I could—”

“No! I already have one!”

Curtis snickered.

“Oh. My god. Okay.” Bernard pinched the bridge of his nose and took a deep breath in before loosening his stance. “Listen. How far have you gotten with the Handbook?”

"Almost halfway! There's a lot of rules in here that we really should be following. I think we should start playing Christmas music a lot more, it's good for us elves, according to the handbook. There's lots of benefits—"

"That's nice. Listen, I need you to do me a favour and I need you to keep it between us. Got it?"

"Uh, sure. What is it?"

"Father Time sent a message to Jacqueline and I. He said there's a clause we should be on the lookout for."

“Oh. Oh. We really needed to talk right now immediately, huh?”

“YES!” Bernard hissed. “You think I’d risk a confrontation with Santa like that for nothing?”

Curtis shrugged.

“I don’t know how to feel about that.”

“I’d take it as a compliment.”

“Hmm.”

“So Father Time? HIMSELF?”

“Yep. Pulled us right out of time to give us the news.”

“A clause? Are you sure?”

“All signs point to a clause, yes.”

“And it didn’t immediately come to mind for you?”

“Curtis, do I look like I have the clauses memorized? There’re probably some in there that I don’t even know about. Why do you think I carry the card with me?”

“Dramatic effect? A Santa intimidating flourish?”

Bernard couldn’t help but laugh. “And also so I don’t have to memorize things that don’t directly apply to me.”

“Even then, if it didn’t immediately come to mind for you, we haven't had to deal with it in a while!”

“Most likely.”

“Yikes!”

“He didn’t tell me what it was—”

“Because he didn’t know or he couldn’t?”

“—unclear. But here are the specifics I was able to make out. It is a clause that happens in the eighth year of being Santa," Bernard tapped his finger. "He has until the twenty-fourth of December to fulfill the clause or that's it."

"That's it? What do you mean that's it?" Curtis' eyes went wide. "You don't mean it it, do you? Like, curtains for Santa?"

"That's exactly what I mean."

“Whoof. That’s a doozy.” Slinging the book around to his front, Curtis opened it up and began to read. “There's lots of different clauses in here, but I haven't come across one like that."

"Well, keep an eye out. The moment you find one that fits the criteria, tell me right away. Do not tell Santa, as tempting as it may be."

"But Bernard—"

"No buts, Curtis." He took a deep breath in, moving closer to the elf and speaking earnestly. "I know you can feel it too. The spirit of Christmas leaving. Dying. If there's any way we can fix this, we gotta try, and yes, that means not telling Santa something. Can you do that?"

Curtis looked downcast, closing the book shut and staring at it thoughtfully for a while before answering. "Yeah. I can do that."

"Good. Thanks, Curtis."

Nothing much, actually! It was all more or less on point!

Grammar/syntax/characterization hotfixes mostly

Doubled the dialogue somehow, as per the ush. use. as per the usual. but however you spell the short form

another "blast to Jack retelling his parts to Jacqueline" in the present" has weaved its way in, featuring ROME and CANNOLIS and DITE

Tried to make sense of wtf I was going on about with the Winter/Jacqueline Dome scene (as they chat about it on route to Bernard). I think I made it worse. I genuinely don't know what my angle was there but I know I had one, I just can't find it, if I ever even HAD IT

It deffs had to do with how Jack fucked around with the Dome/Lockdown measures and Jacqueline, is regrettably, finding out about it in the worst way possible (ouchies)

Anyway. Turns out the Y8 BTS was the first one I did and it is so short and I apologize for how chatty I appear to have gotten in the last 9 years lmao 🤭🤭🤭
