Doing the gift swap thing with my friends this weekend and we have a $20 limit, which is hard for adults because I feel like most people will just buy a thing if they want it that bad and it's less than 20 bucks. So to me this is more of a time for fun jokey gifts or handmade things (not like a king size knitted blanket or anything but ykwim), especially since these are people I've known for 15 years.
I made this:

we all quote this regularly so I feel like it'll get a good laugh, maybe get displayed on someone's desk.

god i fucking love fiber arts like talk about feeling truly connected to the long unbroken line of humanity we've been doing this since we started existing and SO many things (computers, for example) exist literally because of fiber artisans and craftspeople

Half of the piece for my soon to arrive nibling is done! Just gotta wait for my SIL to let me know what first name they end up going with (which will be confirmed when the baby is born) and then I can crack out the first initial and DOB.

Ugggggh I hate making the grid for a piece, how am I only halfway done after doing this for like a week
I mean I’ve done enough stitching to know that I VERY MUCH need the grid and that I will have a Bad Time if I don’t do this necessary preparation, but man, there’s not a whole hell of a lot of dopamine in this step. (And since stitching is basically an ADHD stim for me… yeah.)
I also hadn’t realized just how BIG this piece is going to be. It’s going to have a lot of blank space in it so it’s not like I’m stitching all 56,700 pixels on it, but… well, I guess there’s a reason I picked the itty-bitty 22 count aida instead of my usual 16. We’ll see how much self-punishment this is once I actually start. The last time I used 22 count aida was the only stitching project I ever abandoned, but I was also WAY less experienced, didn’t have nearly the same tools that I do now (in terms of nice ways to display patterns, nice gridline floss, etc.), and foolishly thought for some reason that using two strands of floss at once would be appropriate for 22 count cloth just because I’d done it on, like, 11 count or 14 count. Pretty sure this won’t be as bad as that, but we’ll see just how bad it gets.
Still, at least the second half of the grid always goes faster because you only have to count half as much, but still. Bleh. Can we start the fun parts soon, please.
