Hey you know when one of the last times the Doctor said I love you that I can think of is?

Zagreus. He told Charley he loved her. And then she followed him and they spent weeks in sensory deprivation unpacking that and love itself as a concept. And we never heard him say it again.

You know how the sound creature in Scherzo wants the Doctor and Charley to sacrifice themselves for it because that's the only concept of love it's ever had? And the reason for that is because it's only ever heard Charley and the Doctor talk about love - it was literally born from their resentment, their love, every single sound they made? And from their words it learned emotion and desire, and the Doctor's first sacrifice of sound put reason to that emotion far, far too quickly; it learned from "Of course I loved you, I killed myself for you!" but it didn't understand what that meant. (I mean, did the Doctor?) Charley and the Doctor idolize the idea of one another, and Scherzo is the point where that falls apart, where they have to face the aftermath of the grand gestures they made in Neverland and Zagreus and they realize that their broken reality and broken selves aren't quite what they thought. The sound creature's concept of love is based entirely around self-sacrifice for some grander idea because that's how Charley wants it to be, that's the only way the Doctor understands it. And it learned from them far too well, even as its accelerated maturity meant it didn't understand anything.

No time for my usual daily drawings this October, so I'll be reposting old art from my personal project "Ensouled" every day (what time I have is gonna go to writing instead). To start, here's some early explorations from around 2017-18. I was (and still am) experimenting a lot with the visual style.

Because most of my drawing time is spend either mimicking others' styles or drawing non-human characters, I have no innate sense of what "my" way of drawing humans is. The top collage is one of my favorite drawings, and is, I think, as close to what feels like a personal style. But it's very hard for me to stay consistent, and not slip into overworking things. For the three sketch pages, I was looking at Franco-Belgian cartooning styles to capture more stylized proportions and energetic linework. There's a lot here I like-- I think it'd be worth revisiting these looks as I keep studying.

my Eight, Tigger and Eeyore Caerdroia cosplay! Eight was not the most pleased they were there but Tigger sure had a great time for all three of them!

my talented partner @cosmik-homo sowed the coats on the little fellas, including Eeroye's pants and vest! and both of their cravats! their vests are made from the same fabric as my main eight here!

featuring them being in the tardis like they never got to do! i had a great time in Gally 1 this year with these little fellas and hope to bring them next year with some matching ribbens for them!

I think they missed such a big opportunity by not bringing back Eight and Charley for the 60th anniversary specials. I mean why David tennant? Again? I feel like Donna’s whole storyline was tied off in a really good, tragic way. So why did they start to mess with it again? Ugh, pet peeves aside I really think bringing back Eight and Charley would’ve been such a good idea. Not only would it introduce the wider audience to the big finish audios and expanded universe but I really feel like out of most if not all of the companions eight and Charley had this really deep bond that I would’ve loved to see on tv. Also not to mention Paul McGann really REALLY deserves some on screen time, I mean his acting is phenomenal.

‘But wait, casual watchers won’t know who Charley is, so you can’t just bring her back!!’ This is where they could’ve utilised some really great flashbacks, with eight narrating over the top of it at the start of the episode. Little snippets of storm warning to start, and eventually really emotionally charged moments like Charley holding the knife to her chest in the chimes of midnight, or eight begging to be stabbed by Charley in zagreus, or really just any of the MANY horrific things they went through together. It wouldn’t be too long but would help the audience understand what happened and sort of clue them into that timeline.

And then the tardis goes haywire and sends him on his merry way to see Charley again. I’d kill for that, to see them on TV 😭😭 IMAGINE WILD BLUE YONDER AND YHE GIGGLE WITH THEM IN IT. Such a wasted opportunity oh my goodddddddddd. Please I just really want more eight and Charley content, and honestly the specials would’ve been SUCH a perfect place for them.

And if they insisted on the Bi-generation happening (I really hated that, sorry) I feel like eight would’ve been perfect to process all the trauma, because honestly I think he is the most traumatised doctor. He went through so much during his run like in Zagreus, neverland, scherzo (there’s probably more but unfortunately I haven’t been able to listen to that many audios yet.)

Anyways sorry if none of this made any sense I just like yapping about doctor who and I’ve found a platform to do it on soooo…..
