could you explain the MCR and PATD lore to me like I'm 7 and don't know these bands by more than name
So in the context of that post - MCR, dearly beloved band that remains dearly beloved, broke up in 2013 to widespread lament, reunited for a tour and a single in 2019, which then expanded to 2022-2023 after being delayed due to COVID. While the line-up has changed a little, the core four, Gerard and Mikey Way, Ray Toro and Frank Iero remain the same. Despite not being active they performed their most popular album The Black Parade (is it the most popular? that's a complicated question but it definitely had the most mainstream success) at this year's when we were young festival, which was hugely exciting for fans, everyone was happy to see the band back together, apparently happy and thriving, playing the music that they and we love.
PATD Lore I am less well-versed in but the loose story is this. PATD wrote a Fever You Can't Sweat Out (2005), the album that is billed to be played at wwwyf 2025 as their first album with their original line-up. Ryan Ross was the guitarist at the time and wrote all the lyrics, as such the album is very heavily shaped by him. However, after this album, Brendon Urie and Spencer Smith began pushing for a more mainstream pop sound leading to Ross and bandmate Jon Walker to leave. From then until 2015 the band lineup changed around until eventually everyone else quit and it was just Urie releasing music under the band name.
The issues with Urie are these: he has made jokes about sexual assault and has also a significant number of accusations against him, most notably some by underage girls. He admits to kissing Ross on stage and off despite Ross not wanting it (again, SA) and he has used the N-word on multiple occasions publicly while singing songs which have it in which is still problematic, and has made misogynistic comments. He also, many fans believe, has stripped the soul from the music, producing more and more bland, mainstream pop music rather than engaging with the unique style of the band that attracted its original fans. Finally, it's tasteless that he kept producing music under the PATD name despite the band fully breaking up, in a way that indicates it was solely to make money off the fame of the band name.
This brings us to when we were young fest 2025, in which PATD is billed to play AFYCSO. Essentially, this will be most likely Urie performing an album primarily written by a man he assaulted, an album that was that man's baby, trying to beat the dead horse that is PATD as another cash grab. Shitty behaviour. The MCR wwwy reunion was a band who couldn't stay a band for many reasons but in large part because of how damaging it was for all of their mental health, who have gone away individually and to a large part gotten better and happier and more stable, coming back to play good music again together. The PATD wwwy performance is a mockery.

iām about to be real daring. But the AFYCSO era yall love so dearly would be so drastically different (probably for the worse) if ryan was the āfrontmanā like yall are always moaning about. That boy did not want to sing, did not want to perform, did not want to be SEEN in the way that brendon was able to. Mf didnāt even want to be in the early music videos what makes u think he would be gettint lap dances jn front of thousands of ppl and slithering around on the VMAs stage. He was not meant for that and brendon, even if you hate him, absolutely was. I luv ryan more than anything but "pre split" fans live in a fantasy world bruhā¦.

a fever you cant sweat out!
oh BOY!!! who is ready to see me get Emotionalā¢ STRAP IN FRIENDS (or unfollow, i wouldnāt blame you) 1. Build God, Then Weāll Talk (i am a SUCKER for closing tracks, and this is possibly my favorite closing track of all time. and the best way to experience this is the video from Live at Denver. which is also the whole way to experience the album, imo!) 2. But Itās Better If You Do (this was my favorite as a kid, so itāll always have a special place. love that me and ryan ross both vibed with a song about strip clubs when at the time, neither of us had ever been in one istillhavenāt) 3. Camisado (iāve always loved this song, but ever since becoming a 2020 ryan ross stan, this song just hits so differently now and climbed so high up my afycso ranking!) 4. The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide is Press Coverage (what. an. OPENING TRACK!!!) 5. Thereās a Good Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey, You Just Havenāt Thought of It Yet (shoutout @ ryan ross for teaching 11 year old me what surreptitious means) 6. Time To Dance 7. I Write Sins Not Tragedies (i heard this song playing waaaaay in the distance from one of the shops at work the other day and i dropped EVERYTHING. this song will never not be iconic and i will never not have a visceral and practical involuntary reaction every time it comes up) 8.Ā London Beckoned Songs About Money Written by Machines 9. I Constantly Thank God for Esteban (i wish this ranked higher for me, because itās ryanās favorite) 10. Lying Is The Most Fun a Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off (i cANNOT think of this song without thinking of the fact that ryan ross looked like this while writing these lyrics. itās literally all i think about when i listen to it, and iām not sure if it enhances or hinders my listening experience!) 11. Nails for Breakfast, Tacks for Snacks (i feel like this will upset people...lyrically, i lOVE IT, but the sound has and always will be a touch strange and just Not It for me) 12. Introduction 13. Intermission (though i do enjoy the piano and brendonās weird radio announcer voice)
//send me an album and Iāll rank the songs from my favorite to my least favorite :)
#I Constantly Thank Ryan Ross for this Album#and pete wentz for responding to his annoying livejournal messages#and making this happen#because not to sound dramatic#but i likely would not be here blogging about emos and their music#if not for this album#......maybe pete shouldn't have responded to that message#KIDDING#i love afycso dearly#top 5 of all time!#thank you for giving me the chance to go off about it hannah!#asks#meganfoxluvr#album rankings#<-- in case you want to blacklist my rambles

(afycso anon) I'm just so bad at this, why do they always have so many versions ugh. Tbh the way I choose YNWA was by the color lmao (I was never into pink) but I'm very frustrated cause I still want something from wings because to this day it is my fav concept/aesthetic :( I have so many things to buy (plus, not to be like this but I'm not someone who will buy 35 versions of the same album because it has differents(?) pictures so that's why I'm taking my time to choose) Yoons is...Wow ok Im
(afycso anon) on another note; Hobi!! This warm(?) red color is so beautiful!! But I donāt know what to make of these pictures like what concept is this? What is the link between the two set of pics? Honestly I always have so much stuff in my head and I like coming to your blog so yea
i know, and this is just the first album in the ly seriesā¦
i get you, honestly the only difference is the pictures in each photobook and getting different photocards in each album (unless you get the same one in two different albums) plus usually people post scans and stuff, so itās more about if you actually want the physical thing (cause u could just buy the online album)
yoons blue hairā¦ i mean rip blonde yoons, u will be very dearly missed butā¦ he looks so good with blueā¦Ā hoseokās hair!!! that color really suits him, and orange, it looks lovely on him (reminds me somewhat of his danger hair color / which was stunning)Ā
yeah, the pictures are quite soft colorful pastel aesthetic which makes sense with what the album is about

rank every p!atd song.
okokok >:]
s tier (10/10, 9/10) - all of afycso + pretty . odd; all the boys; far too young to die; collar full; kaleidoscope eyes; casual affair
fever n po r some of ryan ross's best work , along w what he did w the young veins . i cant say im in love w all of his solo work but the lyrics arent as bad as pftw . the songs off too weird r wonderful ! all the boys is so fun to listen to , same w collar full . while i will say that i enjoy the brobecks vers of far too young to die Much more than the p!atd vers , the lyrics still fuck . all of the vices demos r pretty good , but kaleidoscope eyes is somethin else ... casual affair slaps godbless
a tier (8/10) - can't fight against the youth; house of memories; la devotee; always; the ballad of mona lisa; nearly witches; new perspective; it's almost halloween; mercenary; the calendar; trade mistakes; the rest of the vices bonus tracks; golden days
can't fight against the youth id say is jus a bit worse then all the boys , or at least i like it less . house of memories , golden days , n la devotee r probably the best songs off of dob in terms of lyrics id say . impossible year isnt bad, but it isnt as good as these three . the calendar n trade mistakes dont get enough love , vices doesnt get enough love in general , but they r so so good ! the bonus tracks especially r the best part of the album (turn of the lights my beloved <333 also love that pete wentz ghostwrite) ! the demo lyrics of nearly witches r a lot more fun then what we got , but i dont necessarily hate it ! i do wish we got the cabin album though </3 mercenary is such a fun song ! it does get a tad repetitive , but who cares bc it fucks ! new perspective is jus generally a good song id say . its almost halloween probably doesnt deserve this spot , but god do i love it dearly .
b tier (7/10) - girl that you love; crazy = genius; impossible year; death of a bachelor; this is gospel; hurricane; get me out of my mind; don't threaten me with a good time;
girl that you love isnt really special , but it has some banger lines in it that punched me in the fuckin gut ! crazy = genius n dont threaten me with a good time r both songs that r fun to listen to , but they kinda do nothin ? like , theyre there , but they arent really important . impossible year has some good lines as well but i dont like the sound of the song , nor do i like how br*ndon sounds . this is gospel , get me out of my mind , n death of a bachelor r all songs that exist ! ready to go gets annoyin at some point but its an overall fine song , this is gospel has a few things goin for it , n death of a bachelor is an alright song . borin tier tbh
c tier (6/10, 5/10) - sarah smiles; let's kill tonight; nicotine; girls/girls/boys; the end of all things; the good, the bad, and the dirty
sarah smiles is a song . the end of all things is a song . bc i dont like that One Guy nor his wife i dont like to listen to them , but they arent the worst songs ever . would skip them every time though . let's kill tonight gets repetitive really quickly n it gets hard to listen to multiple times . nicotine is fine , it jus never really meant much to me . girls/girls/boys does absolutely nothin for me n i could not care less ab it , but i dont hate it ! im glad it exists ig ? i jus dont really like how that One Guy handled it though. the good, the bad, and the dirty is also nothin special but it doesnt suck so i guess it goes here .
d tier (4/10, 3/10) - memories; the overpass; roaring 20s; miss jackson; victorious
memories is such a bad song i dont care . i cannot stand it n i legitimately cant describe why . it makes me feel an indescribable emotion that i fuckin hate . the overpass n roaring 20s have nothin to offer but r the best songs off of pftw , so i guess they can be a tier higher . miss jackson is kinda borin n vaguely sexist , though id be lyin if i said it wasnt fun . i jus dont think i can put it any higher than d . victorious as a song jus rubbed me the wrong way n i cant shake that feelin , so d tier .
f tier (2/10, 1/10) - hallelujah; every other pftw song
hallelujah is jus borin . like ig it isnt bad i jus cant stand it at all . f tier . pftw is such a shitty album , at least for panic standards ! bc how did we go from lines like "i know the world's a broken bone // but melt your headaches call it home" to fuckin "don't call me saint california if you're at another altar" . how did we go from "i've never so adored you // i'm twisting allegories now // i want to complicate you // don't let me do this to myself" to "it's just cherries, cherries // everything is cherries on top" . pftw doesnt make me feel despair it makes me so fuckin mad . pftw is a solo album n doesnt deserve to be compared to twtltrtd . its obvious that this album was jus for money n i hate it sincerely .
what the fuck tier (0/10) - high hopes; hey look ma, i made it
they suck <3 theres a line in high hopes that . holy shit . you cant say that n expect people to be COMPLETELY OKAY WITH IT ? hey look ma, i made it is genuinely so annoying to listen to . in fact , both of them are . i'd rather listen to fucking anything else . these songs were a mistake <3
#these r jus my opinions but i feel v strongly ab them DFSJKDLKSF#bc you cant compare pftw to fever or too weird . dont even try .#pftw makes me so irrationally mad#tommy talks trash
