more scummy advertising from Youtube and their customers!
Here we can see an advertiser using þe trick of having something in þe top, and a game in þe bottom. I use þis less as evidence of YouTube’s shittery, and more as a hook to grab your attention. Consider your attention grabbed.
Tumblr media
Second, and first of two recorded instances of YouTube doing something that shows þeir fuckwaddedness directly, we have obscured skip buttons. No, I have not edited þis. Yes, i’ve seen þis several times. I hate it.
Tumblr media
And for C, I ask you, dear bastard, to direct your attention to þe top right corner. You see þat little pie? Þat’s a small, hard-to-guage-þe-lengþ-of record of YouTube’s new and dick-proved post-ad buffer, where for a grand total of 5-to-10–hard to remember exactly—seconds, you are forced to look at noþing but þe link of þe 15–yes, you read right, FIF-FUCKING-TEEN—second, unskippable ad. If we combine þis wiþ some other information, and generously guess þis can only happen once during an ad break, þe total lengþ of time one can spend watching unkippable ads, in a row, is 59-64 seconds, at þree unskippable ads, each þe max lengþ of 18 seconds, and þe low estimate of 5 seconds at þe end. If it can happen after every ad? And we take into account þe ~1.5 seconds lost between each ad and þe video itself for transition? Þat goes up to: 76.5 seconds! WTF! Þis isn’t over þe course of a video—þis is one ad break. One. Fucking hell.
And to those who þink I’m overreacting; on þe Oculus Quest, where þey face no competition, I have seen þree-minute-long unskippable ads. Þe only þing stopping þem is us. Install an ad blocker to deny þis shit. I’m not on one because I want to see what þey’re trying to pull—I’m raþer þoroughly minded I ought to assume you don’t. Do yourself a favor, and fuck þis shit.

i've seen a lot of dp fans in the dpxdc fandom talk about not having access to comics so here. it's completely free, good quality scans (for most things), basically any dc comic you could want is there. you should have an adblocker but the ads aren't the worst if you don't, just noticeable and annoying. you're not gonna get a virus, i've been using the site for years, as have many other fans.
if you genuinely want to read the comics, take advantage of the sites comic fans have been using. there's new and old stuff and everything in between. crossovers too. whatever you want to read, you'll find there.

Am also on Bluesky but its algorithm can't recommend me barely any LoZ content at all despite regularly posting LoZ stuff and my Likes being a solid 50% (I counted) LoZ stuff so who cares. Who cares.

Netflix (the site where one of it’s main selling points was its lack of ads) now has ads, unless you pay extra to get rid of them.
Youtube has recently blessed me with full-length un-skippable ads, and once again removed my ability to block any ad I might take issue with.
I love not being able escape ads ever :)

*taps gently on your window* you said you like the history of chicago? do you have any fun facts specifically related to the history of chicago as the original and eternal capital of pinball? any tidbits that ideally would beyond those found in a typical timeline of pinball history? (ignore this ask if you don’t know anything and/or aren’t interested in the topic ofc)
Weirdly enough, I do! Maybe not a lot, but I know that---much like alcohol---Chicago tried to ban gambling and gaming periodically throughout the 20th century. And I know that---also like alcohol---they failed, completely and utterly.
For those of you not in the know, Chicago technically "banned" pinball games from the 40s to the 70s. Technically, the city enforced such prohibitions.
Technically.
Due to selective enforcement and honestly, people just straight up ignoring the law, Chicago became a powerhouse of gaming activity anyway. Pinball games were part and parcel of that process. I'm talking about Chicago Coin, which was founded in the 1930s, but didn't achieve true success until they started churning out pinball games in the 1960s and 70s. Bally Manufacturing was into pinball games and slot machines long before it ever sold tennis rackets and activewear. Williams Electronics/WMS industries hit the jackpot in 1981 when it produced Defender. (The company has since moved to Las Vegas.) There's a whole complicated history to explore, and I highly encourage everyone to do so.
However, my absolute favorite bit of writing about the city and its symbiotic relationship with pinball is this Chicago Reader piece. It's very clearly an elegy to a dying art form---written in 2005, it's clear that the world of pinball machines is passing away. Still, it loves the arcades of old. Even today pinball games represent an enormous, significant weight on the fabric of the city; sitting in my apartment right now, I'm about a 10 minute walk away from the nearest pinball machine. (Maybe less, I haven't been to every bar in my neighborhood.)
In short, there's a reason that the Pinball Expo has been happening here since 1985---Chicago is the uncrowned queen of the flippers.
So who cares if John E. Cassidy tried to ban them, or that there was an even older 1895 prohibition against mechanical gambling devices? They're as Chicagoan as ketchup-less hotdogs, and complaining about construction on the Kennedy.

who up sinning their fest
#one of my worst recent hyperfixations i'll admit#and i dont even have an excuse like ohhh i used to read this back in the late 2000s before all the terf shit#no i got into it in late 2023 this school year cause i stumbled across the tvtropes page#and i was like 'sinfest'? isnt that the name of that terf Twitter comic? but the cover image showed a sick ass artstyle so i read it#and im just obsessed with it now its such a strange spectacle. its like a political cartoon and a newspaper comic at the same time#my fav era has gotta be late 2000s maybe early 2010s sinfest... hell maybe even mid 2010s sinfest if i ignore the sisterhood#now every strip is just about jewish people or calling trans women groomers#and almost every once-likable character is now canonically a terf and/or racist and/or antivaxxer etc#or theyre just not in the comic at all anymore like my dear criminy and fuschia#i hope we never get another appearance from them godbless#cause last time we saw criminy he was helping squig and slick break a terf out of she/her penitentiary. with fuschia's permission#theyre definitely the best part of 2010s sinfest. a bygone era#the best part of 2000s sinfest is the sharp artstyle and lil e just being evil#and the best part of 2020s sinfest seems to be. um. laughing at how ridiculous it is? its kind of hard to enjoy though.#i intend to stay updated on it because i like being able to say i've read all of sinfest start to finish#but man i gotta get an adblocker soon cause i read it on the official website cause idk how else to read it online and the ads are constant#really funny when ur reading a strip criticizing the prevalence of ads in our day to day life#not as funny when you remember tatsuya is probably making money off of them. so yeah im gonna install ublock#but the problem is i usually read it on my school computer to pass time. and that technically isnt my computer so i cant download ublock#anyways. i could ramble on about how much i love and hate and am obsessed w sinfest all day but heres some fanart of the characters.#id like to make my own headcanon version of sinfest aka sinfest if it was good#but headcanons arent enough... i need to kill tatsuya ishida#sinfest#squigley sinfest#monique sinfest#lil e sinfest#the devil sinfest#tangerine sinfest#images that are horrid to see and look at#mspaint
