k so aaaAAAA lets start with. skyhill i guess since thats the first one on the line? (technically i think northern hues is the first band he was in that published stuff but i havent listened to it myself so i dont knoooow anything about it other than what i just read from a comment on a youtube video and that is that it definitely sounds like the kind of music dan would have made in his stoner days which probably was true lol)

skyhill has a lot of really good chill songs tho? i personally really love ‘the city as you walk’ and ‘black & white’ the most i think - both are like lyrically really nice to listen to and the chorus especially in black & white is just hnggg. its so good tbh. but really any skyhill songs are good! they arents. as advanced vocally as his later stuff obviously, since this band is like. 12 years old at this point at least but its nice chill stuff with honestly really nice but simple lyrics if you want some good stuff to listen to as a break from all the dick jokes and whatnots that nsp and starbomb have to offer tho!

starbomb is honestly a bit more difficult tho cause its like. much more arin-heavy with the raps and such? but! lets not have that fool us cause there are still plenty of quality songs with pretty vocals by dan tho! ..also hahaa i think its needless to say but hey heres a heavy nsfw warning for these songs

‘mega marital problems’ is a personal favorite, mostly cause dan does like. three different voices in this one? and its hilarious. also if you listen in the chorus parts, you can hear the layered singing he does and its honestly just so good mmmm

‘crasher-vania’ i feel like im gonna betray myself if i dont put this on the list for multiple reasons. 1. its EASILY the most popular song on the album. 2. its freaking fantastic, with the story and the lyrics. 3. the chorus, again? (as dan most often did the chorus work on the first album!) it sounds beautiful and especially in the second chorus, you can hear him emoting it out with the lyrics. 4. the background music. if you stop to listen to it, its honestly so good? like, its very simple, yes, but it works and it just sounds awesome. always brings a smile on my face to listen to those tasty keyboard jams ~

im gonna add ‘regretroid’ here too, as its a personal favorite too. but also his voice. goes so high? and it sounds nice?? also this song is just banging with a female feature vocalist! which is real nice!!

as for the second starbomb album! im separating it a little cause woo the boys honestly improve a lot between the albums (which is crazy cause theres only like. a year? year and a half at max? between these two albums so i cant even think how good the third one is gonna sound with five years between albums and how good current nsp sounds lol)

‘smash!’ i gotta mention cause its like. the single song from the album i feel like? also cause mark is in it! and they all sound rad and yeah it doesnt have exactly too much singing but what it has sounds. so freaking good tho mmmmm i lov

‘glass joe’s title fight’ is a must on this tho cause like. this is the one starbomb song thats so much more sing than rap heavy and hngggg its so good

‘god of no more’ okay but. dans vocals in this are gorgeous. and its a super fun song too. so its a win-win

‘dinosaur laser fight’ is just a classic, so here you go. its wonderful and weird and animated by arin so aaaaaa!

‘fyi i wanna f your a’ im not even ashamed to say this is one of my faves tbh. its just. the glorious kind of weird and this is like one of my favorite examples of how well these nerds write lyrics tho? also such a hard song to learn the lyrics tho, but its so worth it, trust me lol. aLSO DAN HARMONIES IN THE SECOND PART GIVE ME SO MUCH LIFE HOLY SHIT

I SWEAR IM DONE WITH ATTITUDE CITY AFTER THIS but also ‘6969′ is a must to mention. its an eight and half minute song but its just. amazing at everything. beautiful jams and awesome vocals. its gorgeous tbh, a masterpiece

‘cool patrol’. first of all cause apparently i “traumatized” one of my friends by making him watch the video to this and yeah. this is vocally one of my absolute favorites from them tho, dan sounds amazing in both styles, and its just. so positive and cute and aaaaa. its just such an uplifting song i love it

‘danny don’t you know’ cause this one made my cry the first few times i listened to it and its just. so relatable. also fucking beautiful vocals tho and yes the lyrics are personal which makes it even more emotional song. hnggg i love this so much tho cause it just. goes from kind of a ballad to a more of a rock song and its amazing. development similar to the story its telling

‘first date’ i mean. i gotta put my current fave song of theirs here, right? RIGHT? personally i love this cause its just a positive song, in a way i guess, but it stays true to the original nsp style and the lyrics are just perfect for their song about dating tbh. especially with how it just keeps getting gradually weirder and weirder. its just perfection hnggg i love this song. so much. god its so good (honestly tho if you give me a lyric like ‘i’ll take you back to your place and we’ll craft the perfect alibi’ idk how you expect me, a thriller writer, not to absolutely love this song to hell and back)

‘courtship of the mermaid’ idk how you expect me to make a list without this. the emotions in the vocals of this song are beautiful and its, again, hilariously absurd. as a mermaid princess i highly approve of this song

‘mansion party’ its so sad there will probably never be a video of this song cause they want to film it in an actual mansion and so far they havent mentioned that they got a chance to do that so mmmm. cause this song is so fucking banging it deserves a video honestly. the chorus is like. one of the few things in this world that makes me wanna dance. and also theres so many genius lyrics in this that its just pure gold all the way through tbh (also how do you smoke champagne? asking for a friend)

one more i swear, but the whole cool patrol album is so good hngg. but! ‘smooth talkin’’! in all of its absurdity is a must to listen to. its just what the title says, about how smooth danny is with talking to ladies. im not gonna explain more just. it goes as well as you’d expect at this point

Hi hello there I've been tagged by my good pal @pepperminthiya to talk about 10 biases, so enjoy me ranting about my faves because I never do that..... anyway onto the love 😎 I’ve been putting off finishing this bc I lowkey expose myself but sure here we are......

1) Taehyung - BTS

One of my ultimate baes, I really do adore him a lot. He’s so positive, friendly, and bubbly, big lov. I need a minute to talk about his vocal range, because fam it’s very impressive (i’m a music person, i’m in the know) and he has this beautiful, rich voice and I just *clutches heart* love it. I need to talk about stage presence because onstage tae and off stage are different people I swear (esp during Blood Sweat and Tears, that stage where he had the fake scars on his back omllllllllll) and he’s so charismatic!! Big love. Also, he’s adorable! Oh my god so soft and fluffy which makes my heart go w h o o s h, but will also!!! come for my life !!! (y’all saw the dispatch photos I was unable to cope).

2) Hoseok - BTS 

Okay listen. I have been bias wrecked by j-hope for so long that i’m just lying to myself if I don’t bias him at this point. I've been biased the whole time and just never said so.....I really do love him with all my heart, he’s so full of life and energetic, is always picking people up when they’re down and just a genuine good person. Hope World really shook me to my core, the lyrics and everything about it really reached out to me but I loved him so much even beforehand. He’s so talented in so many ways and is super charismatic as well, big big love. Also there’s something about the tonality of his voice as well??? I don’t know how to properly describe it but the whole kinda baritone/raspy thing he has going on ??? oof

3) Irene - Red Velvet

Right okay so I just a minute because i’m so incredibly snatched by Irene, I mean her surname is Bae!!! Meant to be. I love her because aside from being incredibly stunning (how is one person allowed to be that gorgeous omg) she’s so dorky and cute too? Like in her own kind of quieter way but she can be vvv serious, Mama Irene the Ironing Cooking Queen but also silly and funny too. Of late she has been so down for raising up women which I am all about! I only stan intellectuals after all!

4) JiU - Dreamcatcher

 This girl, let me tell you. She may the “fake maknae” type, but she is a powerful woman. Can rock literally every hair colour without trying, can be good at any concept without even trying and she just amazes me. She’s so dorky and weird omg???? Like talks about such weird things and behaves like a toddler on a sugar high but is also a slaying queen??? I am unable to cope, I love her so much. Her vocals are kind of honey-like and really sweet which just makes me ;_; Also she loves the colour pink more than life itself and it’s so cute asjakls

5) Jun - Seventeen

OOoooooooooookay. Where to begin with the vampire meme prince of China??? (I won’t stop talking about his vampire web drama you can’t make me mom). I’m so affected by his presence it’s embarrassing. He’s too powerful and actually damages my general stability in life. So powerful that I abandoned Hoshi for him...(I was always biased though, I was out there watching his web drama calling myself a hoshi stan dasjdalkjds). He embodies “duality of man” so much I get whiplash from him smh... Can be so present on stage and such a character but is a soft baby too??? He makes his little puns (lest we forget ajun nice) and cares for the other members so much and is really really soft. Can be the cutest patoot in the whole world but also the most dangerous man ??? in the space of 00000.2 seconds ?? idk man i’m never okay when he’s out there being himself...

6) Youngjae - GOT7

*inhales* hoooooooooo well. I have lots and lots and lots of love for JYP’s resident otter. He just embodies a ray of sunshine and is so bright and bubbly and his laugh adds 2 years to my life!! Although I really love his more expressive side too when he releases his emo songs at 3am and remember it got leaked that he has tattoos????? oh my god. I could go on forever about my love for him because in all honesty he’s very close (if not basically) my ideal type. I’ve talked with some of my close friends about this and we’re vvv similar so idk that makes me all gooey and cringey to think about it ((cringe culture can fight me)) but yeah. I think that says everything I need to say tbh...

7) Dahyun - Twice

There is just something in the water at JYP because I adore Dahyun with every fibre of my being. A soft memey bean who had so much love to give but is so loved too which makes me so happy <3 I’m calling it now but she’s gonna be a hecking good mc on something one day, something funny like weekly idol (or whatever the new version will be.. rip honestly) where her true Comedic Queen self can shine! She makes some hella good jokes and never fails to make everyone laugh when she’s on a variety show etc. Her personality is so likeable and she’s just so friendly!!! ((this seems to be a theme... hmm)) 

8) Kihyun - Monsta x 

mmmmmmmMMMMMMMMMM oh my goodness gracious i’m so affected by kihyun it’s horrific. ((not as much as jun but close)). I always seem to be stanning these “duality” types whereby they’re so soft and fluffy one minute but attacc my whole life the next. Kihyun is such a dangerous man on stage, and is so stunning like his visuals are no joke but is also a soft bean??? Kihyun just kills me, like his vocals are A+++ and any high/ power note sends me to the grave. He’s also too savage for me, which isn’t my usual type but a lot of the time it’s really funny... oops.... 

9) Nayoung - Pristin/ IOI

Idk man there’s something about Nayoung that just gets to me? She was known as “stone nayoung” during pd101 for being so serious/ shy and I understand bc I’m too serious sometimes too lmao but she’s also really sweet! She will protecc pristin with her life and makes such weird jokes as well lmao. She too is super powerful, rapping her way into my heart. A queen

10) Doyoung/Jaehyun - NCT

Okay i’m cheating a little bit here BUT they are both in NCT but anyways... I love them a looooooooot, doyoung is such a bean but will fite u for not picking up your socks off the floor. He’s such a little fluff but will come for my life ((Esp 7th sense hooo that was a time) and he’s such a good mc! Vroom Vroom Talk Show paid off :D ((fight me it was fantastic))

But then there’s jeff. He’s such a meme ((which i’m too weak for save me)), but also such a bean?? The cutest fluff but needs milk but will also fuck me up ?? I can’t handle how fast his personality changes between on stage/off stage/ general existence.... He’s so adorable but really fucks with my sanity sometimes and I h9 him but will fite anyone to protect him. Idk what to tell you fam I just love jeff too much.

J. Bernardt Interview

Jinte Deprez

J. Bernardt is the nom de plume of Jinte Deprez, a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, whose career has been largely focused on Belgian pop institution Balthazar, that is, until now. On this his road to self-discovery, Deprez began to play with the sort of genres he’s always had a passion for, but rarely got to express in Balthazar. It’s perhaps for this reason, that ‘Running Days’ brims with elements of R&B, soul and hip-hop; echoing the emotional clarity of ‘90s-era D'angelo and the vocal resonance of How to Dress Well, over beats inspired of Child of Lov and the melodic simplicity of Gorillaz. For a record so steeped in themes of love and loss, J Bernardt's ‘Running Days’ remains incredibly warm, while avoiding dramatic cliché, perfectly melding his love of potent melodies, heartfelt lyricism and lush vocals… We talk to Jinte about aiming for a personal touch, simplicity and binging on TV shows…

TSH: In the lead-up to your solo release, you felt like you needed to get back to a place that was closer to you. Did this album allow you to feel content with this in mind?

Jinte: Yeah, absolutely. I mean I've always written with Balthazar, but doing a solo album gave me more freedom to expand my horizons. I actually thought making a solo album would be easy, just like being in a band, but the process was very different and quite challenging. Towards the end, I felt closer to myself as a person, which felt really good. I learnt a lot in terms of keeping things very DIY and aiming for a natural outcome, because that's how I make demos. The demos were key, since the songs that I finished and included on the record are closest to the demos that I made.

TSH: The personal touch factor was something you were really craving?

Jinte: Yeah, exactly. The last time I made an album with Balthazar, with a producer in a big studio and all, I felt like there were too many people in between and too many chefs in the kitchen. The last Balthazar record didn't feel too personal for me. It's almost like when you see the record in a store and it feels like it's not your own thing anymore. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but for this project I wanted to have a very personal touch to it all.

TSH: You also embraced having a cheaper approach equipment wise...

Jinte: The musical side of things with the laptop generation can be really cool. Basically, you can do whatever you want in the comfort of your own home. I purchased some synthesisers and sound-banks, which was a lot of fun, it also took away some of the pressure, as well as being quite cheaper too. My main thing was to keep it fun.

TSH: The themes throughout the record revolve around love primarily…

Jinte: Yeah, the record is very autobiographical in that sense. Lyrically, I just had to wait for things to guide me, because in the beginning, I didn't have too much direction. I don't really write about politics, religion and stuff like that, I don't really care about that too much. Personally, I feel music is made to talk about love. I was turning 30 as this record was coming together, so I included my thoughts of self-reflection and an evaluation of my love life to a certain degree. My personal and romantic life had been quite hectic, so I had stuff to talk about. I didn't need to be too dramatic, but that's why you make an album, to express your feelings earnestly.

TSH: Was the idea of simplicity something you wanted to incorporate too?

Jinte: Totally. When you're a teenager, you want to be really technical and you want to pen a song with 20 chords and overdo it, but I don't think like that anymore. Now, I'm at a point where I can have a song with just two chords and it will give me a strong feeling or a sort of mystery energy. Having less complexity within the song structures makes it way more rewarding. Also, I like that I felt naive again. I was unafraid to try, and fail if necessary, but just knowing I tried would make it worthwhile.

TSH: What are the origins of the track 'On Fire'?

Jinte: I actually made that track with an Egyptian violin and I was focusing on making a waltz, but at the same time I wanted to mix it with a hip-hop track, ha! I guess I had a very innocent and childish approach to that song, ha! Although, I made it really quickly. In the end, it became an interesting combination of a riff and waltz mixing and going into a hip-hop vibe. That was one of the songs that was really important to complete as it gave me a sense of direction for the rest of the album.

TSH: What does a song like 'The Direction' convey to you?

Jinte: Well, the song itself is actually very uplifting with the sounds used, but the lyrics are about a recent break-up. It's nice that people can see the song as a happy tune, but, for me, it's definitely one of the most depressing tunes, ha! I didn't want to be too dramatic knowing the lyrics were quite negative, so the music was like putting a happy coat on it.

TSH: Does it particularly please you to know that the evolution of your live shows enables your solo project to expand more so?

Jinte: That's exactly what it is! You know, after finishing the album, I actually felt a little disappointed when I got the CD in my hand. I thought to myself 'I spent a year and a half on this little piece of crap', ha! Overall, you just accept the fact that it takes this amount of time to get things recorded. However, the live shows are the only way to give the music an afterlife. The songs just keep growing - it's beautiful. Playing onstage means people visit your world - it's easy! It's a bit like being drunk and you've created your own world, there's no pressure at all, plus it makes me feel liberated expressing my emotions in this way.

TSH: How do you like to unwind?

Jinte: Making music is my form of relaxing man. I mean this was supposed to be my year off from my other band. I was supposed to go travelling and take a break, but instead I decided to make a solo album! In a way I think I'm addicted to making music. I still try to travel to see my friends; it's nice to catch up with everyone.

TSH: There must be a lot of TV show binging whilst you're on tour?

Jinte: That's all I do when I tour, haha! I've just finished Fargo, it's truly amazing. When you're on tour you don't exist really, you're just a puppet on a string, so in my case I just watch TV series'. Mr Robot is another quality show I've been watching. It's funny, when it comes TV shows; I get so into them that they really influence my characteristics. I project myself into these characters and become like them. For instance, after watching Mr Robot, I became this computer nerd on tour and after watching Boardwalk Empire, I wanted to go and purchase a long coat and hat.

TSH: What sort of exploration do you look forward to from here on in?

Jinte: You know, it's strange, because with this solo project I didn't have any ambition at all. I really did this to find another side of myself and another type of creative oxygen. With Balthazar, I had my way of writing songs and my ways of arranging, but it was becoming a bit predictable for myself, so my main target was to find another side of myself. In doing so, I surprised myself that it kind of worked. Now that the album is out and there have been some good reactions, I can tour and embrace it all. To answer your question, the main thing is have a lot of fun. As I've gotten older, I don't want to overdo it for myself and tire myself out; I'm not a teenager no more. It's important to keep it fun because then every gig becomes worthwhile. I want to perform with every inch of energy I have and to be as honest as possible.
