If you are from Austin or wherever and it is cold here’s a few general tips from an Iowan
I may be young but this is not my first Rodeo (reference: The polar vortex from couple years ago) although ive never dealth with power outages due to cold because my house is more equipped for cold, also im in marching band and it gets cold as fuck some mornings
if you can get HOTHANDS, handwarmers, feet warmers even body warmers are so nice to have. to use them open the packaging and expose them to air, it also helps to shake them around or toss them to get them going as well
Fleece is your best friend. its warm and insulated, any fleece clothes you own WEAR any blankets USE
DOUBLE UP ON BLANKETS when you go to bed, this is a classic trick that i used all the time when i was little
dont be afraid to wear 2 pairs of socks over eachother, especially if you dont have fuzzy socks. and if you do have fuzzy socks wear regular socks under them for extra warmpth. This is yet another trick i used all the time when i was little
LAYERS, Layer up everything. wear a t shirt, long sleeved shirt, hoodie, jacket and a coat if you have to. and dont be afraid to layer your pants as well. In the mornings for marching band sometimes i would wear my regular leggings and warm leggings over them. also wear those thin fabric gloves under the more bulky gloves as well.
Try to keep your hands, feet, ears and face warm. Your hands and feet get cold easiest and your face gets really cold too because its the most exposed. This includes your ears because they can get really cold and it sometimes hurts
If body parts get cold enough they will go numb, dont worry about it, thats normal. just try to keep them warm. It doesnt mean your getting frostbite it means their just cold. It happens all the time.
Sometimes it might be so cold that a body part becomes painful. yet again just try to keep warm. your not getting frostbite or dying.
DONT NEGLECT YOUR EARS they can get really cold and for me at least it gets painful when their cold.
if you dont have a hat for your head use your hood. even if you do have a hat use your hood. it helps keep your ears and head warm
When you start to warm up some parts like for me mainly my legs, will feel tingly and it might hurt a little bit. they might be itchy when they warm up as well. This is normal. It is not an allergic reaction or anything and your fine.
Crossing your legs when standing and keeping them close together will help your legs stay warm
Dont be afraid to make stupid faces when its cold or to shreek and yell and make weird noises either. I dont know why but it helps make it more bearable for me at least.
After your feet warm up they WILL be sweaty and feel warmer than usual. Dont worry about it just be happy your feet are warm.
If possible huddle with those around you (people you live with obviously) it will help you all stay warm
go ahead and curl up in the corner of your couch or cuddle up with loved ones. It will not only keep you warm but it will be really comfortable
also when snow melts, youd think this were a given but EVERYTHING gets wet. It wont just go away it will make the grass, roads and sidewalks wet and it will leave puddles everywhere.
if you ever go play in the snow BUNDLE UP and also every top layer you wear WILL get soaking wet. Including your socks.
#Hope this helps you guys#i literally had to walk to school in 5 degree weather today#so id say this is pretty reliable#im an iowan too#this isnt my first polar vortex#Winter#cold days#cold weather#Winter tips#Austin#Iowa

A Little into You (Junkyu x Reader) (Ch. 1)
Word count: 4352 words
Genre: Fanfiction, PG13, Comedy, Romance.
Chapter 1 - Path-crossings.
You hurried out of your apartment block, noticing that you had left home for your job 5 minutes later than usual. As you hurried, you managed to mentally check if you’ve missed out on anything whilst leaving home.
Wallet, check. Hair tie, check. Umbrella…You stopped in your tracks to check on your tote bag, hoping you carried your retractable dark blue umbrella. “Oh my god. Thank goodness it’s here,” you huffed quietly to yourself. You fixed your bag on yourself before proceeding your way to work.
It was like any other day. The street was somewhat less crowded with cars, seeing that it is half an hour to 10 o’ clock. You slowed down your steps as you realized that you weren’t that late yet and decided to just leisurely walk instead.
Buildings passed by, some shops were passed by…you were getting close to your workplace and you still had time to spare. You stopped walking on the sidewalk you had been walking along the past 20 minutes. On your right, you could see the familiar building. The one building that you have made a landmark of when you first moved to the area, only because it was clearly no ordinary building- and also because it was only a block away from your workplace.
The somewhat intimidating building…YG Entertainment’s building. A place where all of the top kpop stars emerged from. You were a huge Kpop fan back in your high school days so you knew a few of the YG artists such as Big Bang, 2NE1, Blackpink, Winner, iKon and their new group was Treasure if you weren’t mistaken- since you’ve heard and followed them on social media. I mean, who wouldn’t? They were such a big hit and you could not not be a fan. You were pretty sure there were other groups from the company that made it big too but you couldn’t seem to pull out their names out of your (foggy) head.
You were busy staring at the building when suddenly--- “meow”
Your head turned 90 degrees to the left swiftly. What was that? Was that a cat? You took a step towards where you think you heard the sound was from.
That’s weird. Why only a single meow? How will I ever know if it’s really a cat or not?
Being the cat person that you are, you were determined to figure out if there really was a cat near you. You know, just in case the cat was in distress. To hell if you were late for work, you thought.
“M-meow?” You called out to the invisible cat. “Meow are you there?”
Nothing.
You took a deep breath. Okay maybe you were imagining things. Yeah okay, the crazy cat lady has gone whacko this time around; you rolled your eyes at yourself for trying to play hero when you were clearly heading to work—which is way more important at the moment.
“meow!”
There it was again! You turned back towards the sound. Well, screw this. You were sure now that there was a cat nearby. Your steps walked fast towards the nearby YG bus parked on the side of the road. Maybe…maybe the cat is under the bus!
You hurriedly walked toward the bus and kneeled down, peeking to see under it. And surely enough, there was a cat sitting down underneath it.
“Oh my god.” You exclaimed when you saw the cat; relieved that it wasn’t harmed in any way.
“Hey. Come here meowie. Here.” You tried to call out to it.
The cat sat there and stared at you, probably wondering who this stranger was and why you were bothering him.
“Hey, come here meowie. Come here, comeeee,” you tried again. You made a gesture with your hand, making it seem as if you were offering a treat for the cat.
The cat, falling for your act, stood on all fours, stretched and walked towards you. You smiled seeing the cute creature approaching you, finally.
You hurriedly pet the cat on its head and started stroking it, making the cat purr and rolling around on the floor- loving the attention that it’s getting.
“Aigoo. You’re a cutie aren’t you?” You cooed at it, smiling happily to yourself now that you’ve found a cute new friend.
The cat rubbed itself against your leg, purring and meowing, loving the attention from you. You started to feel bad that you didn’t bring your small pack of cat food from home. You normally carry a small pack to feed the strays outside your apartment building but since today you left home in a rush, you had forgotten to grab it on your way out.
You continued petting the cat, letting its purr fill your surroundings. What a cutie. Too bad I don’t have any treats to give…; you pouted at the thought of leaving this cat with no token of you to be remembered by. You wanted the cat to remember you, almost like how you did your best in making sure the cats near your apartment block remember you since you frequently feed them.
With your hand still stroking the cat’s head as it purrs with its eyes closed (clearly enjoying the massage your hand was giving), your eyes scanned around to see if there were any shops nearby that might sell some pet food or treat. That’s when your eyes landed at the store located right opposite the front side of YG’s building. That’s it!
You got up from kneeling, making the cat open its eyes- wondering why this human stopped petting her. You brushed your pants down, making sure there weren’t any dirt stuck on it.
“Okay meowie, you wait right here okay? I’ll be right back. Stay!” you said, as you backed off slowly from the cat. The cat looked like it understood what you were saying so you decided to hurry before the cat changes its mind to wander somewhere else.
Without any time to waste, you ran across the street to buy some treats for the little cutie.
*
Hyunsuk was walking casually towards the YG building, where he had a day-filled schedule waiting for him ahead. His hands were tucked in his pants’ pockets, keeping them warm since the weather seemed chilly this morning. He was about to make a turn towards the main entrance of the building when a girl he’s never seen before was half-walking, half-running, passing by him and crossing the street beside him.
He stopped to see what was going on. It seemed that the girl was hurrying to the convenience store in front of his building. He shrugged to himself, maybe she had forgotten to buy something.
Hyunsuk fixed his headphones, taking out his phone to choose another song to listen to. His walk to the practice room takes around 6-7 minutes plus-minus him greeting the staffs on his way there so he reckoned that it would take around 3 songs for him to arrive there.
He was about to make his way towards the entrance again, when the same girl dashed before him, literally crossing his path again. She ran towards the YG bus and kneeled on the ground beside it.
Hyunsuk frowned. The heck is wrong with this person? Why is she kneeling in front of the company’s bus? As much as he wasn’t the type to judge, it was kind of…rare…to see anyone kneeling in front of their company’s empty bus.
He decided to maybe just approach the girl, to see what she’s up to. Maybe just keep a safe distance, in case she’s a zombie or something; he told himself.
Hyunsuk walked up towards the girl slowly, still having a huge distance between them. Step, step, step…and suddenly the girl stood up. Hyunsuk froze in his spot. Clearly the girl was oblivious about him approaching, since her back was facing him, but Hyunsuk was worried that it would be obvious he was heading towards the girl.
The girl backed away from her spot, still having her back facing him. It seemed like she was talking or muttering to herself. Hyunsuk stayed put. He didn’t realise it but he felt like he was holding his breath.
And then it happened. The girl turned around. But then again, Hyunsuk couldn’t even catch what she looked like because the moment she turned around, she was already running away from the building. It happened so fast, Hyunsuk swore that it felt like he missed looking at her in just a split second.
Hyunsuk turned around, watching the girl’s figure slowly fading as she turned right, probably heading towards another building or another block ahead. Shaking his head, he decided to just make his way towards his practice room.
*
You ran across the street, back to where the cat was, in hopes that it didn’t leave the spot earlier. You arrived in front of the bus and kneeled down once again. Thank god the cat was still there!
“Hey…Hey there cutie. Look what I got you~”, you called out to the cat whom was sitting under the bus like before. The cat’s ears and eyes perked seeing what you held in your hand.
“That’s right~. I got you some kibbles my little one~.” You smiled whilst saying it in a baby-talk manner.
You shook the packet of the kibbles and the cat immediately got up and approached you. You smiled to yourself again. You couldn’t help but feel really happy seeing the extremely cute creature rubbing its head against your thighs, making faces as it asks for the food from you.
“Oh alright, I’ll give it to you now!” You surrendered to the cat. You poured some of the kibbles onto the ground and the cat immediately gobbled it up.
“Oh gosh…you must be really hungry…Here, have some more baby!” You said dramatically, pouring more of the kibble towards the cat.
You watched as the cat ate through the kibbles you poured for it. The cat is super cute. Okay maybe it’s because you’re a cat person- that made you so obsessed and so happy whenever you get to interact with a cat. But it’s also because you believed that the only companions that you’d ever want to have for the rest of your life are cats. It’s not like you’ve never dated or been in any relationship before too, you had, and you had enough of them failed relationships.
You sighed. Maybe all those failed relationships had made it harder for you to fall for anyone at the moment. You had been avoiding outings with your colleagues simply because you knew they were trying to set you up with the people they know--- people who they think would ‘fit’ to be with you, also because they told you that you had no social life.
You rolled your eyes to yourself. Pfft. Me? No life? I have a job that I enjoy doing, I get to stay home whenever I’m free, I have my own go-to supermarket that’s not far from my home,, aaaand I get to meet cats every day! I don’t need anything else in my life. I’m contented this way. (Yeah okay girlfriend, keep telling yourself that lmao)
The cat was still munching on the food when you decided to check what time it was. Shoot! You stood up quickly. Never in your life had you ever stood up that fast— you felt your head spin for a second or so. You were running late for work!
You walked backwards slowly, afraid that if you dashed off, you might startle the poor cat and it would run away. So you backed yourself away from the cat slowly…
The cat noticed you moving and looked up at you. “Oh! Oh nothing meowie. I just need to leave now. I’m late for work. I’ll be back tomorrow okay? I promise. Just continue eating yeah?”
The cat continued staring at you for a couple more seconds. “Go on. Eat up baby. I’ll be back tomorrow okay?” You noticed the cat no longer having its gaze on you so you hurriedly ran away from the spot.
You ran as fast as you could, ignoring the fact that the wind would mess up your hair eventually once you arrived at work. Luckily, your workplace was just a block away from the YG Ent. Building so you showed up not being all too sweaty at work.
“Gosh, what happened to your hair?”, a colleague asked.
You tried to quickly comb it with your fingers. “Oh nothing, I didn’t realise I was running late so I ran all the way here.”, you said, slightly panting from the unexpected cardio you had just done.
“Oh okay. Well you better sit at your table before Boss-nim makes his round here.”, your colleague said as she focused back on her laptop.
You nodded and went to your table. You took off your jacket and hung it onto your chair. Plopping into your chair, you took out the handouts you’ve made for your students and started checking for any printing or typography errors.
It seemed like any ordinary day, with the same tasks at work, you thought. But maybe the difference today was that you had made a new cat friend and it definitely lifted your mood for the whole day. You smiled. You couldn’t wait to see the cat again tomorrow. I’ll make sure to wake up early tomorrow so I can feed the cats at the apartment ground and the cat I met today! Now, I’ll just focus on work! Hwaiting y/n!
…Little did you know that you were going to have more random encounters in the nearest future.
*
5.00 pm. You noticed the time on your computer stating that it was time for you to leave work. Getting up from your seat, you started packing up your bag and cleaning up your desk, not wanting to leave it in a mess (not like you to mess up your work desk though). You lifted your head slightly to peek the rest of your colleagues and you notice that they were practically doing the same thing as you.
After you were done with everything, you left your desk to go and clock out at the machine located near the exit of your department’s floor. Beep. You smiled to yourself. Another productive day done and over with.
“See you all tomorrow!”, you said cheerfully at the line of colleagues waiting for their turn to clock out of work as well. With that, you turned your heel and left for home.
*
You were on your way back home, and as usual, you would be passing by the YG Building. Your steps were slow, almost like you were taking a stroll but in reality, it was just you taking your time to cool off your feet from the pain the you got from wearing heels all day at work.
Damn I should’ve brought some slippers in my bag. At least I would’ve been able to change into it after work. You nagged at yourself for thinking of this millions of times and yet you never seem to be bothered to bring your slippers with you to work.
Just as you passed the building, you passed by a guy whom was holding up an ice cream cone in his hand. He looked pleased to have the ice cream cone—okay but who wouldn’t be happy with ice cream? You eyed the cone in his hand as the both of you passed, without realizing it, he was eyeing you on his part.
Why is she staring at my hands that way? Is it that weird? Hyunsuk stopped in his tracks as you passed him by after the brief eyeing moment you both shared. He checked out his other hand that wasn’t holding the ice cream cone. He fisted it and glared at his hand for some time, that is, until someone called out his name.
“Hyunsuk-hyung! What are you doing staring at your hand like that?” It was Junkyu, his group member who was walking up towards him. “Your ice cream is melting hyung. Why aren’t you eating it?” He asked, obviously sounding like he was weirded out by his hyung’s weird behaviour.
“Oh nothing haha.” Hyunsuk gestured Junkyu to walk along with him back to the building. “Why’d you come out here? Did Jihoon send you out to call me?”
“No, Jihoon-hyung was busy doing the harlem shake in the practice room so I came out here so that you could stop him.”
Hyunsuk lets out a laugh. “Okay, okay I get it. Let’s get inside quickly.”
*
The next day, you hurried out of your apartment block earlier than yesterday, making it a point to bring your pack of cat foods along in your tote bag. You looked forward to meeting the new cat friend again today.
Step, step, step, before you knew it, you reached in front of the YG building again. Your eyes roamed around the area, searching for the cat. You didn’t want to simply go near the building and be caught trespassing—I mean, that would be stupid, being caught trespassing the YG premises simply because you were searching for a cat—not a human, a cat.
Okay but to be logical, how would you even find the cat? Should you call out to it? But you didn’t know the cat’s name, that is if it had a name to begin with. You bit your bottom lip. Should I just call out to it? Like, just call out “meow meow”?
You took a step forward. Okay maybe one step forward won’t hurt? You took another step forward towards the front entrance of the building. “Me-meow?”
No sound. You felt stupid for calling out to a random cat in public. A cat that barely knows your existence. But you were already standing there so you might as well do your best and call out to it right??
You took a deep breath. “Meow! Meow where are you? Hellooooo here, here, meowie!” you called out to the cat whilst shaking the bag of kibbles in your hand.
“Meow!”
Your eyes widened. Bingo! The cat was still here! “Meowwww where are youuu”
“Meowww!”
You turned around, leaving the entrance of the building and walked towards a tree not far opposite the entrance itself. “Hey, are you here? Hey hey I’m here meowie!” You called out near the tree and bushes.
Suddenly, the cat showed up from behind one of the bushes. It seemed scared to approach you, so you knelt down in front of it to ensure that you wouldn’t seem intimidating to it.
“Hi. It’s me again.” You smiled at the cat. Not like the cat could understand you though lol.
The cat backed away a little, still not recognizing you.
You hurriedly opened the cat kibbles in your hands and poured it a safe distance towards the cat. “Okay here you go. I promised to come back didn’t I?” you said softly.
The cat sniffed the food, slowly approaching you. At this point you were desperate to have the cat eat the food poured out that you backed away from the spot you were in initially. The cat, having seeing you were backing away, slowly made its way towards the kibbles and gobbled at it hungrily.
You pouted, feeling sorry for the poor little thing eating away like that. You walked up towards it slowly. The cat flinched, noticing you were near again but continued eating the cat food. You poured more of the kibbles onto the ground beside the cat, not wanting it to feel hungry anymore.
This time, you tried to extend your hand to touch the cat. Seeing that the cat is focused on eating, your hand slowly pats its back. The cat purred, loving the gentle touch you were giving it. You smiled a little. “You poor thing, you must’ve been really hungry waiting for me. I’m sorry. I wish I could give you more than just these…”
*
This morning, Hyunsuk planned on working on the new dance moves he learned yesterday. So he decided to leave the dorms early and be the only one using the dance room. As usual, he wore his headphones whilst walking towards the YG building.
Hyunsuk reached the building not too long after his brisk walk there. As he heads toward the entrance, again he saw a girl he’s never seen before there. His eyebrows furrowed. Is this the same girl as yesterday? And if so, why is she kneeling nearby the tree this time?
Hyunsuk decided to check out if there was anything wrong with the girl since he had plenty of time before his self-practice. Taking off his headphones, he walks towards the girl whom was a few meters away from him.
*
You were busy smiling to yourself, feeling happy that the cat was comfortable with your presence again. You didn’t realise that a guy had approached you, being curious about your presence in front of the building he works at.
“E-excuse me,” You heard a voice called out behind you. Your shoulders jumped slightly, not expecting anyone to be near you, also not realizing anyone had approached you.
Still kneeling on the ground, you turned your head to face the voice that had called out to you.
You felt your eyebrows raise a little, not expecting to see the person in front of you- talking to you. Is that…Choi Hyunsuk?
Seeing that you hadn’t respond to him, Hyunsuk proceeded to ask, “Are you okay? Are you hurt somewhere?”
“I…What?” You tried to keep yourself focused on the guy standing in front of you. “Oh, yeah I’m fine! What- I mean, why are you asking?”
Hyunsuk smiled slightly. “You’re…kneeling on the ground…”
“Oh! Oh, sorry, I was feeding this cat here,” you chuckled. You moved slightly, showing Hyunsuk the cat that was eating beside you.
Hyunsuk laughed slightly. “Oh, I thought you were hurt or something. I’m sorry for bothering you.”
“Oh no it’s fine,” you smiled back at him. You thought it was sweet of him to be concerned of a stranger like you. He’s indeed a nice guy, you thought to yourself.
“Alright, I’ll leave you to it then,”
“Yeah, thank you for checking up on me—“, you stopped talking as you notice a streak of water hitting your blouse sleeve.
Your eyes widened. Did the cat just--?? Your wide eyes met Hyunsuk’s. He looked just as shocked as you.
You were too stunned to move. The cat….sprayed on you…The cat that you fed….sprayed it’s pee on you….on your work clothes….
Suddenly you heard Hyunsuk’s voice, “Watch out, I think it’s gonna-“
Psst. You felt the front side of your blouse growing wet this time. Your mouth made an ‘o’ shape. You were more shocked than ever. The cat looked up at you and rubbed its head against your knee, purring.
You couldn’t move. You were too shocked and embarrassed to do anything to be honest. If the cat was grateful enough for the food you gave, you were pretty sure that peeing on you wasn’t the right way to say thank you! And this happened right in front of Hyunsuk too! An artist that you just met!
The cat rubbed against your knee for a while before leaving you, disappearing behind the bushes again. Your eyes moved to Hyunsuk who was still standing near you. A safe distance from you of course.
Hyunsuk’s eyes were still wide, not really sure if what he saw really happened.
*
“Watch out, I think it’s gonna—” Hyunsuk said as he saw the cat’s tail perk up and facing you.
Psst.
He was too late to warn you.
He fell silent as a few minutes passed with you still kneeling down on the ground, seemingly shocked by what had happened. The cat left and he saw your eyes looking at him. You looked like your soul had just left your body. Or maybe, you looked like a lost kid at an amusement park, clueless and wide-eyed.
Hyunsuk couldn’t help himself. He quickly turned around and covered his mouth with his hand. He wanted to laugh. He wanted to laugh so hard. He couldn’t believe himself; he actually finds the incident to be funny! The girl literally got sprayed by the cat’s pee TWICE!
Still holding his laughter to himself, he heard a loud sigh behind him. He decided to turn around to face you again.
You were already standing up when he turned around. You were brushing your skirt with your hands, dusting off the dust that weren’t visible in his opinion.
His lips trembled as he tried to not laugh at you. Instead, he asked again,” A-are you okay?”
You looked like you were too baffled to speak, but you answered him, “I…I think? I don’t know what happened. Oh my god.” Truthfully, your eyes were getting teary. You felt embarrassed. You couldn’t believe this happened to you, today. You could see Hyunsuk’s expression, all awkward just staring at you.
You decided to hurriedly leave the place. “I uh, I should leave now. I need to get to work.” You fixed your tote bag on your shoulder.
“Wait, like that? You’re going to work just like that? With…” Hyunsuk tried not to laugh out loud. He swallowed a breath before continuing, “With cat piss all over you??” It took all his might not to laugh when he said the word piss.
You let out an exasperated sigh. You blinked back the tears that were forming in your eyes. “What else is there to do? I’m not running back to my apartment. I can just get changed into my sweater that I left in my office. It’s no biggie really.”
Hyunsuk actually felt sorry for you. What luck for a girl like whom wanted to feed a stray cat and ended up getting peed on- twice. Suddenly, he had an idea.
“Wait, let me help you.”
“Huh? How?” You looked at him questioningly.
To be continued.

HIII
i become very happy for very little, seeing that you want to go back to school to get an english degree makes me so happy 😩 literally, i'm not from an english speaking country and learning english and the history of that language and literature makes me go FJJABXIABD I JUST GET SO HAPPYY
how are you? how have you been lately? this week was super busy, tested negative for covid!!! had some tests at school, some went good and some went not as good :')
you have therapy tomorrow!! tbh i hate online therapy, it's very stressful and i never manage to say anything, i had an appointment on wednesday but i ended up only forcefully smiling for an hour and making small talk (I hate small talk with a passion, it's so boring it's painful) so I hope it goes well for you 🥺
can I just say I love your boards? They're so cute and always give me a good vibe :)
hope to be more free next week! Can't tell now but it's almost time for easter break at my school :)
ily -🌻
Hiiii!!!
Oh my gosh! I cannot understand how all you amazing people who aren’t from English-speaking countries are just, so much smarter than us Americans ;o; I literally tried to learn French and Spanish in high school and retained NONE OF IT, lol! And yet here you are, holding a perfectly amazing conversation with a native English speaker who has to google how to spell words khdshdw XD
But I’m happy that you’re happy!!! And I’ve been good! Where I live has been very up and down in terms of weather (it’ll snow overnight, then rain during the day, then be sunny the next day). Today it’s sunny, so I plan on going for a walk so I can enjoy the sunshine while we have it! I’m definitely a summer person, lol. This winter has been too long imo.
I’m glad you’re negative for Covid! The covid tests are awful :c And I’m sure you’ll do better in school soon! There’s plenty of time in the year left to work hard and get your scores up-- but even if you don’t, that’s okay too! Sometimes tests and school (or life) is hard, but as long as you try your best (with lots of much-needed breaks!) that’s all we can ask of you <3
I do have therapy tomorrow! I’m personally an open-book about how I feel and my past traumas. We’re currently working on how I kind of compartmentalized my childhood into a series of “stories” that I like to tell, because I don’t see myself as the main character when I do that. We’re trying EMDR so I can finally process a lot of the stuff that happened to me. It leaves me feeling really emotional and raw for a day or two afterwards, but it’s good! Because I’m finally letting myself realize that these are things that happened to me that were out of my control, and it’ll help me unlearn bad habits that I have as an adult. BUT! I understand that therapy is really hard for some people (especially over Zoom or phone), because you can’t actually read your therapists body language very well. And it’s awkward and weird. And small talk is hard for a lot of people too. All I can hope for you is that next week you’re able to open up, even if a little bit. I’m sure your therapist is very nice and understanding, though <3 Especially if they didn’t try to push you to talk beyond “small talk.”
Hehe thank you! I love them too <3 I’m thinking of making some more today actually!
And yay Easter break! A lot of my friends got the vaccine so we might have a BBQ for Easter (weather permitting). There’s only 5 of us, so fingers crossed we can spend some time together. I’ve missed having human contact outside of my husband and roommates lol.
I love you too!! <3

Cookies & kisses💋
.BTS Jungkook.

Summary- Jeon Jungkook is a broke college student who’s just trying to get his degree and find his place in the world but things aren’t always that easy. Especially when you’re only 21 years old and have a 4 year old daughter.
Warnings- Mentions of underage sex, brief mentions of past drug & alchol abuse. Mentions of past depression, self harm and suicidal thoughts. Quite a bit of swearing but nothing too harsh, don’t read if you’re sensitive to anything mentioned above.
Word count- 2.4k
-
A trail of ‘sorry’s and ‘excuse me’s left Jungkooks mouth as he pushed his way through the overcrowded hallway of tired and depressed collage students. His afternoon class had ran over and he had to get to the daycare a little under a mile away in under 5 minutes if he wanted to pick his daughter up in peace without all the judgemental moms rolling their eyes at him for not being on time. It’s happened more times then he’d like to admit and Jungkook would be lying if he said the fellow parents stares weren’t intimidating. Now the young dad knew that being a single father in collage would get him a bad reputation, the tattoos covering his muscular body doesn’t help with anything either but he’s learnt to ignore the disapproving glares from strangers and to just focus on himself and his precious little girl.
He ran as fast as he could to the nursery, considering himself victorious when he arrived at 3:31pm, only a minute late and the class hadn’t even came out yet. He smiled slightly to himself before looking around awkwardly to see only a few stares from both Teacher’s and parents which made him huff and cross his arms over his chest, emphasising the tattoos covering his toned arms in a way to tell them he isn’t interested in what they have to say. Who do they think they are, looking down at him and his daughter like they’re some specks of dirt on their shoe. It honestly angered him more than anything, everyone thinking he can’t raise his own daughter well because of his age, everyone thinking he’s a bad father because of how he looks and the bad things he did in the past. He had moved on from those times and he liked to think he’s even grown as a person which is something only a few people seemed to believe.
His thoughts are interrupted by the sound of a door opening and a crowd of excited children running towards him like a mini stampede and a smile is instantly spread across his face when he sees his beautiful little girl skipping towards him. “Daddy!” Eunha squealed as she jumped into her fathers arms, obviously happy to see him after a long day of being apart. “Hey baby how are you?” He said whilst picking the small girl up, kissing her cheek before making his way out of the now crowded playground. “It was so fun daddy! We did painting and drawing all day and look I made you something!” Jungkook stopped a moment, looking down happily at his daughter who’s hands were carrying a rather large card that had “Merry Christmas Daddy!” Written on the front in various different colours and a picture of the two of them with a Christmas tree full of presents in the background.
“Baby this is beautiful, thank you princess.” Jungkook said emotionally. He was so happy to have someone so precious in his fucked up life that brought him happiness and peace, something the father didn’t think he deserved.
The two made it home after about 15 minutes of walking, they lived in a big apartment just outside of campus with three of Jungkooks best friends. He originally wanted a small house for just the two of them but after talking with they boys he realised moving in with them would be cheaper and it meant he had someone to help take care of Eunha if needed. Some people would question if living with 4 men was a good thing for the young girl but Jungkook would always shut down the comments, insisting that he’d known the three for years and Taehyung, Seokjin and Hoseok adored Eunha and would do anything to help.
“We’re back” The raven haired boy shouted, putting Eunha down so she could run off into the lounge to play. “In here” Taehyung shouted back from his position presumingly in the kitchen. His suspicion was met when he walked in and saw his hyung raiding the cookie draw. “Hyung, Jin literally brought those this morning and you know how he gets when you open food straight away” the younger laughed as Taehyung rolled his eyes at the comment. “That’s not my problem, if he would let me then I’d do the food shopping but he doesn’t so he’s just gonna have to deal with it” Jungkook just laughed at his friends rant, grabbing his phone and scrolling through his most recent notifications.
“Tae oppa!” Eunha grinned, her curly long brown hair bounced as she ran towards her favourite (don’t tell jin) uncle. Jungkook and tae had been best friends since elementary school and when the younger told him he was gonna be a dad he didn’t judge him like everyone else did. Don’t get him wrong he was shocked of course; and a little sympathetic for the inexperienced teenager, but he stuck by him and helped him through everything. So it was kinda natural that his daughter had the best bond with him considering he was practically Eunha’s second dad. “Princess” he laughed as he picked the youngster up, twirling her around in circles resulting in the cutest giggles squeaking out of her mouth. Jungkook gazed lovingly at the sight before him, the sweet sound of his daughters laugh never failed to make him smile.
“Dad said that you’re looking after me a bit today” she informed him looking up into Taes eyes, grabbing a strand of his hair and playing with it between her small fingers. The elder looked at the father with a raised eyebrow as the younger mouthed ‘please hyung’ with pouty lips that Taehyung could never say no to. “Of course I am sweetie and we’re gonna have lots of fun, why don’t you go into your room and find something for us to play with” he smiled, carefully putting her down with a kiss on the cheek before she giggled and skipped out of the room. “I’m sorry Tae I got a call earlier from my professor and he said he needed to talk to me and I know it’s late notice and I should have asked you first but-”
“Jungkook it’s fine, don’t worry about it just call me when you’re on your way home” Taehyung smiled and patted him on the back. “Thanks hyung, I shouldn’t be too long.” He quickly turned and made his way out of the room, grabbing his phone and keys from the side before kissing Eunha on the forehead and making his way back out of the door.
The young dad sighed to himself as he strolled through the fairly busy park, it was mid May so the summer heat had just hit Seoul like a truck and Jungkook wasn’t particularly ready for it. A black and red checkered hoodie, thick black jeans and boots covered his muscular frame and he was starting to hate himself for his choice of clothing. A thin layer of sweat covered his forehead making his raven black hair stick slightly and Jungkook hated how it made his body itch but didn’t bother wiping it as he knew it would only make things worse, choosing to walk under the shade that the oak trees decorating the park provided.
Lighting up a cigarette the young male looked around the crowded park, the new weather brought about hundreds of different people; from students to families with small children of similar ages to Eunha, the sight of a couple and their daughter playing happily and laughing made him feel somewhat guilty. A feeling he felt quite often these days. It’s not that Jungkook regretted become a father at the young age of 17, of course he would have preferred to be a bit older before he had children but he wouldn’t change it for the world. It was more the fact Eunha didn’t have a mother figure in her life and he could tell that it’s effecting her more ways then she would admit. Seeing all the other kids at her nursery being picked up by their moms and all the little girls having pretty braided hair in fancy clips and scrunchies that Jungkook just couldnt figure out how to master no matter how hard he tried. Obviously Mother’s Day was the hardest, especially now that she went to school where everyone else was making ‘best mom ever!’ cards for their beloved parent, however she drew her dad a picture, a colourful sketch of herself, Jungkook and her 3 uncles instead and as much as he knew his daughter loved him with all her heart, she would love to have a mother figure too.
So lost in his thoughts Jungkook didn’t realise he had arrived at his professors office. He threw the cigarette on the floor and stomped it into the ground before taking a deep breath and gently knocking on the door. A small ‘Come in’ echoed throughout the room and Jungkook slowly made his way into the overheated room. “Ah Jungkook, nice to see you! Take a seat.” His professor, Dr Thomas said way to enthusiastically for a Monday afternoon. Upon taking his seat Jungkook quickly became overwhelmed by the amount of papers that were placed in front of him. “Do I even know what all of these papers are?” The student asked eyeing up the never ending pile of papers of all colours. Chuckling at Jungkooks reluctantly “Don’t worry, they’re not all as bad as it seems.” The teacher joked rummaging through the pile to pull out a rather bright booklet that stated ‘Grease The musical!’ on the front cover in big bold letters and handing it to the confused student.
“Erm sir.. I’m not a musical theatre major, why are you giving me this?” Jungkook questioned looking down at the script in his tattooed hands. It made no sense to him as to why his professor was giving him this, he’d never been interested in acting or even going to see a theatre production so this was completely random to him. “Now Jungkook that’s what I needed to speak to you about” he paused, “I’m pretty sure you’re aware of this but you’re failing my class and well it’s my job to not let that happen” The middle aged man smiled keenly. “Now this big ol’ pile of rubbish is all of the projects you can do for extra credit and I spoke to your friend Hoseok Jung and asked him about your interests and he said performing arts is one of them!” He said gesturing to the never ending stack of scripts and god knows what else.
Grunting quietly Jungkook slowly flicked through the pages of the script in front of him “So what do I have to do? Just pick one of these and help out backstage or something? Cause I’m not really an actor, more of a dancer” He asked looking up at the man in front of him. “Now, Hoseok said that might be the case so I asked the head of Musical theatre if you could help out somehow with the choreography and you’re in luck! Their main choreographer had to drop out so all you have to do is go and tell Professor Richards that you’re up for the job, perform a piece of your own choreography in an audition and boom extra credit sorted!” Dr Thomas exclaimed, clapping excitedly for his student.
Smiling slightly at the mans excitement Jungkook nodded “Thanks for sorting all this out sir I really appreciate it.” He said standing up, wiping his sweaty palms onto his thighs before offering his hand for the teacher to shake. “No worries, oh how’s Eunha by the way? You haven’t brought her into class recently .” Dr Thomas asked curiously letting go of Jungkooks hand.
The student had been taking his daughter into his lectures since he started the university. It was extremely hard for him back then considering he was a single, 19 year old father with nothing but hopes and dreams of graduating with a degree in engineering science. He didn’t have anyone to take care of Eunha during his classes due to his friends being tied up in their own schedules and his parents were always busy at work so bringing her into class with him had been his only option. Mr Thomas had been extremely supportive of Jungkook and his situation, so much that he even made a small children section in the corner of the class that had a few books and toys to keep Eunha occupied whilst her father was listening to the lecture. The young student was beyond thankful for everything he had done for him. If it wasn’t for him Jungkook doesn’t think he would have coped.
A proud smile came over his face as his daughter was mentioned. He loved to talk about his pride and joy and he jumped at every chance he could to brag about her brilliance. “She’s doing really well sir, she just started nursery so I don’t have to bring her In anymore.” He explained happily. “That’s fantastic Jungkook! You’ll have to bring her in to see me one of these days, anyway I’ll let you go. See you soon son.” Jungkook smiled once again and waved before stepping out of the office, the fluorescent pink script looking out of place in his inked hands.
The student paused as soon as he made it out of the office, a sigh making its way out of his mouth. How the hell is he gonna be able to fit this into his schedule? Jungkook was a busy man, he had a 4 year old daughter for God’s sake! How is he meant to choreograph for all 10 songs, teach the choreography, study and look after his child and himself all at once? Shaking his head he carried on walking, pulling out another cigarette to calm himself down. He knew he shouldn’t smoke as much as he does but it was an old habit he just couldn’t get rid of no matter what he tried. The youngster carried on walking home, a million different thoughts swerving round in his head. He didn’t know what he was going to do for this audition. Didn’t know if he should just turn back around and tell his professor to forget it and let him fail. He wanted the latter but he knew he couldn’t do that. He had to pass this class. He needed to make his daughter proud.

What may we call you? Brittany/Britt or Ozz/Ozzy. When can we send you a birthday card? (Figuratively, of course.): February 5th. And, where are you calling from? (Again, figuratively.): Please free me of the sweltering grip of North Carolina. What is your favorite Hostess/Little Debbie snack? BIIIIIIHHHHH that's too hard. I love that shit. I love the honeybuns, Twinkies, those little chocolate cupcakes... and really just most things lkdjalksdjwoe. Do you/your family buy loaf from the bakery or bagged on the shelf? Bagged. White, wheat or other? Mom usually buys whitewheat, but sometimes just wheat because she knows I prefer it. Have you ever fixed something without knowing just how you did it? My niece may already be developing schizophrenia. If you could invent something, what would it be? Uhhhh... just one is hard. I literally just thought about this for like 5+ minutes and can't think of one singular invention that would actually be important. Well, maybe some sort of totally natural, long-lasting preservative for food? That'd help so many people and would greatly decrease the amount of fruits and such we waste, and it would also save money with probably slightly decreasing the frequency of grocery shopping. Tell me about your favorite pair of pants. I literally just have black yoga/dance pants lmao. Do you like getting dressed up? NO. Is your technology up to date? Depends on how "up-to-date" you mean. Assassination Vacation Tour: Review

From the beginning of queuing, to the tiring taxi journey home, the atmosphere around Resorts World was electric. Even from turning up to the surprisingly short line at midday, the weather-battered, homeless-looking groups of fans seemed to still be full of energy, despite clearly looking like they’ve been there since the early hours of the morning. However, as exciting as this day panned out to be, it slowly got less and less exciting as the wait grew more and more. Keeping us outside for an extra 1 and half hours wasn’t the best decision on the staff’s behalf. Nonetheless, as soon as my ticket was scanned and I was in, the excitement I reminisced at the beginning of waiting instantly came flooding back, and the buzz was back in the air. After grabbing food, drinks and any merchandise that took my fancy, then came probably the strangest way of moving to the standing area I’ve ever encountered. The first 100-or-so people in the queue were stamped and given a number on the way in, and these numbered people had to stand in another queue in numerical order. We were then told to walk towards the standing area, in a single file line without pushing, shoving or trying to run to the front. To be honest, I’m surprised we weren’t asked to sit in our rows with our legs crossed and our finger over our lips. It was as if I was back in first school. It also doesn’t do them any favours as we were given a safety brief before the acts came out. I couldn’t help but laugh to myself and ask ‘When has this ever happened at a concert before?’. Despite all of this, I secured my place at the barrier, trying my hardest not to let the girl behind me elbow her way in front of me. It was only then, at this moment in time, that it hit me, at the same time it hit everyone else. The main reason all 15,000 people were there, for one reason and one reason only: to wait a further 3 hours for the supporting act and Tory to finish and go mad when Drake comes out.
Baka was the only supporting act; and despite it wasn’t the largest, he drew in quite the crowd and was the perfect act to hype everyone up for the remaining artists to appear later on in the night. I couldn’t help but feel bad for Baka though. Even though his set was strong and consistent, it didn’t quite have that ‘wow’ factor as any other performer would. And the worst thing? There isn’t anything that he can do as of now that will help that. Because, in terms of concerts, the only way to impress a large audience from the get-go is to be well cemented into the industry, so to speak. As I was looking around the arena, I noticed that almost 3 quarters of the seats weren’t even filled, and simply because nobody cares about who’s on stage at this time. Especially if it is someone that they haven't even heard of, as I could hear a few people from way back in the standing section question who Baka even was. Which goes to show, in hip-hop, the fans are reserved for those who are on top of the game and know how to finesse the business. Which I think, is extremely unfair, but that point is for another time.
After an hour of Baka’s set, then came Tory Lanez. And with him, came along a lot more hype and anticipation. This point in the night is where the butterflies in your belly begin to shake violently with excitement, as a 5 foot 7 inch Canadian darts around the stage screaming into a microphone, dressed in a varsity jacket, skinny jeans and high top vans. Lanez’s music never fails to get you into that high-school-party, drunk-and-high-at-the-same-time, I-think-I-can-sing-esque mood, and this mood only heightens when you see him perform live. Girls were going crazy for him singing about the birds that he’s slept with on songs like LUV, Say it and recently released Freaky, and the lads were waiting for the mosh-pit bangers to come such as Shooters, Litty and Ferris Wheel. So his performance was unsurprisingly diverse, and could appeal to any listener. And with the addition of Baka before hand, it was strategic placing them together as Tory supported the hype that Baka had created perfectly. The best thing however, was the fact the security has to literally pick him up and throw him back on the stage after he’d been for a spot of crowd surfing. I was creasing at the fact that he could've probably jumped back up, but it was as if they threw him back up just to take the mick. His set then came to a close, and then came the final interval of the evening, with nobody else to perform other than the man of the hour, or 7 hours in this instance.
After about 30 minutes of standing around, the interval music came to a stop and the lights began to dim. This alone was enough to send the audience into hysterics, as they screamed at the top of their lungs recording nothing but an empty stage. But the stage wasn’t empty for long, however it wasn’t filled with a bearded rapper from Toronto, it was filled with a square curtain covering the entire stage floor being lowered from the ceiling. When it hit the floor, images of palm trees, coconuts and hula girls were vibrantly projected onto the curtain and the theme music to Austin Powers was played. At this moment, I wondered whether or not I was at the show. I was looking around to see if people were as confused as I was, but they all seemed to be hypnotised by the silhouettes of a horny spy. But as the projections disappeared, there happened to be somebody behind the curtain. Somebody tall, in a Louis Vuitton assault vest, holding a microphone. Seeing this outline made the crowd even more hysterical. It was at this moment that the introduction of 8 out of 10 began playing, and then the figure came to life, rapping along to it. Because I was stood at the barrier, I could see slightly through the curtain and could easily tell that the figure was Drake, if it wasn’t obvious enough. After the first verse ended, the curtain was raised to reveal the 6 God himself, live in the flesh. A part of me couldn’t believe it. That was the real Drake, stood a couple of meters in front of me. And as his performance went on, it wasn’t settling in any more.
Drake’s live performances are a priceless experience. From the clever use of pyrotechnics to the talented back up dancers that accompanied him on stage, you can clearly tell that Drake is at his best when he is on stage. Despite this, it pains me to admit that I felt his show was rushed and disorganised. Some songs were left unfinished, which was a shame because the older Drake songs on the set list (arguably his best era) were played for about 10 seconds each. To rub salt in the wound, they were all played with no breaks or intermission between each other. So in a sense, there was no real point in playing them at all. It was almost as if he had somewhere much better to be than there. Because of this, I found it hard at times to engage with him and with what he was doing, even though I desperately wanted to. Nevertheless, he still managed to put out an exceptional performance of his recent music. The transitions between certain tracks were executed smoothly, and his delivery of them were executed even more so. I really managed to notice the diversity of Drake as an artist whilst watching him, which is a skill I see many other rappers attempt but fail. He can easily perform a song such as Jumpman with the expected energy and charisma, and then manage to calm himself and the arena down with a soft and soppy performance of Peak. He can have any audience on strings and is in complete control of how they act and feel throughout his performance. To obtain this skill to such a degree is something that no other musician has, which is one of the many reasons that Drake is the best performer out of today’s generation of rappers; and probably the best rapper out of them too. But again, that’s for another time.
To summarise, Baka and Tory Lanez hyped the night up perfectly; no other 2 acts could’ve done it better. However, Drake could’ve handled that hype a little bit better and his delivery of certain songs could’ve been a bit more consistent. But this slight criticism doesn’t diminish his performance in any way, shape or form: it was a quality show. Was it worth going? Absolutely. Was it worth £120 and a 7 hour wait? Absolutely not. I cannot recommend going to any Drake concert enough. It is an experience that cannot be matched by any other artist simply because of how much of a natural born performer he really is. But my only piece of advice would be to choose wisely. If you’re going to pay that much and wait that long, go to Canada and see him there. I feel as if it would've been worth that much if there was some sort of after party to go to, or some form of exclusives included in the ticket price. Whether that be merch or a smaller show or whatever, it just wasn’t quite £120 material. But one thing is for certain, I look forward to the release of Drake’s next album that he said he would be working on as soon as the Assassination Vacation is over. So if he was to rush the next 11 shows, I wouldn't mind at all.

Techies are Better than Actors (2)
Tom Holland x Fem!Reader
This is for my entry to @astral-parker and @spideypeach ‘s writing challenge. I hope you all enjoy!!
This is a mini series so I will make the main masterlist for it when I have posted all of the chapters.
Chapter 1
Prompt: Theatre!AU (also includes slight college!AU but the main focus is theatre)
Summary: Art colleges are tough enough, but working an entire play for one of your classes is another thing. (Y/N) is stage managing a play for her theatre classes, and the teacher has decided to let another teacher have some students direct the shows. When (Y/N) meets Tom, possibly the next big Hollywood director, will their play crash and burn or be a campus wide sensation?
Warnings (for entire series): Language/cursing, slow burn, fluff, angst. Word Count: 1646
“Why is it 78 degrees at 9:23 in the morning? It’s the end of September! The fall weather should be here by now. If we have a sunny or rained out Halloween, I’m suing.”
“And who are you going to sue, Abby?”
“Mother Nature, obviously.”
“I wish you luck.”
As much as I do not enjoy early mornings, I will never get over mine and Abby’s daily routine to get coffee at the campus cafe near the theatre building. And since it was getting closer to October and Halloween, the seasonal drinks were back as well as the classic Halloween and autumn vibe like songs softly played through the ceiling speakers.
“Anyway, I’m finished with my rant about the current weather status, we’re starting the play today. How do you feel, stage manager?~”
Abby smirked and held out the ‘r’ of ‘manager’ for dramatic effect. She was one of the actors in my theatre class’s play and wanted to know all the behind the scenes since she’ll be onstage. It was almost she was the spreader of drama in the drama program itself. I shrugged at her question, looking off to the side and taking a sip of my caramel macchiato.
“I feel pretty confident about it. All of the actors techies alike seem to be good choices for their roles and jobs. But of course we haven’t officially started yet. Just wait till Tech Week comes around and I’m rushing around the building trying to get something done before the day of our performance.” I laughed softly at my words, looking out the window as someone rode their bike by the cafe. I’ve been involved with theatre since high school and know the entire process, at least for the basics (I don’t count elementary and middle school since they weren’t considered real shows and were only musicals of Disney movies or classic Christmas stories). Every school/teacher runs a drama/theatre club differently. In the end, they all end up in a havoc filled Tech Week and a (most of the time) calm show. I noticed Abby nod as she drank her pumpkin spice latte, seeming to want to hear any possible drama or gossip already going on. There’s always that one person who gets upset over not getting a part or not getting a part that they wanted. Or even getting a main role and getting upset that they didn’t get the side role they wanted (actual examples that have happened in my 7 years of drama club and theatre class).
Abby laughed along with me at my statement before speaking up about the matter. “That’s good to hear. I just wish I got a more main part of the show. I really wanna be able to make it big, you know? I figured that would happen after more people came and went of the class and the school entirely, but it’s still the same as always. It’s our junior year of college and we’ve been working with Mr. Fisk since we started here as freshman. I thought we would be doing great things by now. But we seem to still be in line with everyone else.”
Prime example of what I mean.
If there’s one thing I had to say about theatre, it’s that techies are better than actors. Not all actors act this way, but some will do or say the most redundant things. “What foot do I step out on?”, “What do you want me to do?”, “Everyone get out of the way! I have to have room for my quick change!” The list goes on really.
As for techies, they’re responsible for all the so called ‘magic’ on the stage: props being moved and off stage, lights set correctly by climbing up 10 feet or higher ladders, music/sound cues at the correct moments. Once again, the list goes on.
But they will also have their moments of thinking they know better than the actors. As long as they don’t get in each other’s way during the performance, everything (should) run smoothly.
As for people like Abby, they need to realize that every casting director for any show, movie, or play does not go based on experience. They go by who they think plays the part best, verbally and physically. Yes, experience is a good thing, but it never guarantees you a main role or a role at all for that matter. Everyone is considered equal until the auditions, and the director makes their final choices for the performance to make it the best they believe it can be.
I took a deep breath to keep from ranting those thoughts out loud. The last thing I need to do is lose one of my only friends I have by telling her the honest truth. “Well people are both coming and going into the program, we’re not the only ones who have been with the same teacher for over 3 years. Some have been here for over 5.” I say, trying to slip in some of the truth without actually saying it. However, it seems to get through to her that I’m right. She still looks somewhat upset.
“I guess. But I was hoping to be doing lead roles for every show by now, maybe even get an agent to help me with getting auditions with tv shows.” She shrugs, finishing her drink. “Maybe I just need to focus on what’s in front of me rather than head straight for the big leagues, you know?” She smiles sadly as she finishes. I can tell she’s still not happy about the class or the cast list but is becoming more mature about it. She’s been like this since high school and this always happens one way or another. At least she gets more mature about it each time it does.
I checked the time on my phone, realizing that I had about 20 minutes to get to my first class. Standing, I grab my backpack and drink while smiling reassuringly at Abby. “You’re exactly right, Abby,” not the entire honest truth but it’s still the truth that she needs to hear. “I gotta get going for class but I’ll see you this afternoon, okay?”
We part ways and I leave the cafe, still thinking about everything Abby was saying. I would say that I agree with her, but I love being apart of the theatre program whether I’m onstage for 5 seconds, the whole show, or not at all. It’s a great experience in general and you (tend to) make close friends (as long as they still do what they’re supposed to during the show).
Throughout the rest of the day, I still think about how today’s table read will go. For all I know we may not even do the table due to something else going on. In the end, it’s going to happen sooner or later, and sooner will be easier on me so I can start mentally preparing myself for who I’m working with.
As I head into the theatre building, I see other people from my class talking about how excited or nervous they are for the show. Some of them are transfers, others are people have been with the program or have just started this year but got scholarships to be in the higher classes of other 2 or 3 year students. There are also faces that I don’t recognize at all, most likely from other classes in the building. Art schools will never cease to surprise you when it comes to their students, they can literally be anyone.
I smiled as I saw Abby reading over the script and mouthing her lines to herself. She seems to be putting in the hard work already to memorize her lines. Hopefully she does well on the stage when the time comes. It’s not always about memorization.
I walked around the theatre to find Mr. Fisk so we can get started on the table read, but when I found him he was talking to someone else while looking over one of the scripts. I waited a moment or two before he finally acknowledged my presence. “Ah, (Y/N), finally you’re here. There’s someone you need to meet.” He gestures to the man next to him. I can tell by his nametag on his khaki pants that he’s also another professor at the school. Mr. Fisk continues speaking. “This is Mr. Rose. He’s the arts direction teacher on campus and we’ve agreed to let some of his best students direct the plays that my classes are going to be doing.”
Oh god.
If there’s one thing worse than actors, it’s student directors who have barely any idea on what to do for the show they’re directing. But Mr. Rose says they’re the best students so hopefully it’s not as bad.
I nod, understanding what’s going on and praying that the director I’m working with isn’t full of themselves. “Alright. Who will be directing for our class?” I look between both teachers, waiting for one of them to say something. Mr. Rose finally speaks. “One of my personal favorites, Tom Holland.” He proceeds to call this ‘Tom’ guy over. I continues my prayers as I hear the student walk over. I look over to the side before looking over at (who I’m presuming is) Tom.
“Am I needed for something?”
“Yes, you need to meet your stage manager for the show.” Mr. Rose gestures to me. “This is (Y/N).”
I smile and hold out my hand to Tom. “You ready to get started, director?” I almost smirk at the end of my sentence. Might as well try and make friends with him if we’re to be working together. Tom accepts my handshake, chuckling softly. I see the slight smirk in his smile as well.
“You can call me Tom, darling.”

Kitten’s Little Flame Part 2

Pairing: BTS Suga/Yoongi (Dragon hybrid au) x Reader (Cat hybrid)
Genre: Fluff, slight angst, eventual smut, hybrid, college, best friends to lovers, roommate
Word count: 3.18K
Summary: “He’s the calming cool you seek in the Summer, but a comforting warmth in the Winter.” Yoongi and you are in university now and even roommates, can you stay best friends or will it bloom into something more?
A/N: Well.. per request I continued with another part! I hope I don’t disappoint you.I feel that this may be a slow burn to get to the point. I want to build it up with tension and blatant oblivious characters.Again, this is my first time writing something, so I hope you enjoy it! Also I hope you cringe only slightly with the cliches. Thank you for taking your time out though! :) Forgive me for my grammatical mistakes.. Thank you @ratedtae for making this wonderful moodboard!
Part 1, Part 3, Part 4 (M), Part 5 (M), Epilogue (M) [Will be linked when issue is fixed, please access blog for mstlist]
Two plumes of white smoke rose out of his nose, swirling and intertwining with the frigid air that blanketed this Winter night. For him the seasons change was nothing, he held an orange marmalade tinted flame within him that was constantly lit and provided a furnace that made him run hot. A walking fireplace that provides a warmth that is felt only by few. He stuffed his hands in his university hoodie pocket as he walked down the snow-covered street. Snow was falling lightly from the starless night and melted instantly once it touched Yoongi’s face, so he buried himself even further into his hoodie to avoid the moisture. The snow littering the sidewalk reflected greens, reds, and blues from the neon lights of shops that were open. Whiffs of peppermint and different dinners along the main street coursed through as people opened various shops doors.
He was returning from campus after submitting his last final of the semester. Music has always been his passion and now he is working towards a professional degree in Recording and Composing. His last final was for his advance music production class and it was a project that was months of work. He can remember the countless nights he spent writing and rewriting his compositions. The countless nights he spent in the studios on campus for students in the Music department. His final was late in the afternoon and he had to submit all his paperwork and a USB of the actual recording of the final project to his professor.
The buzzing of the neon lights, the bustling of people going home from their nine to five, and honking of the traffic reminded him of how much time he had spent indoors these past four months. The occasional shop he passed by rang with holiday tunes. He looked across the street and saw the café that you and Yoongi along with the rest of the gang frequented when you all had time and weren’t drowning in school work. This was your third year in University and it was about an hour from your guys hometown. The group you’ve grown up with since you all were kids made it to University. The eight of you, all different types of hybrids, were striving for success on different paths. The eight of you were all different ages besides species, but you balanced each other out much like fibers coming together to create a single thread.
Yoongi pulled his smart phone out of his jean pants pocket and pulled down his hood to look for your contact. He scrolled through his phone to bring up his recent conversation with you finding your contact saved under the name “Kitty”, and pressed the green button to call you. He knew you were already home since today was also your last day for finals and how stressed you’ve been with your classes this semester. To add icing to the cake you had a professor who was less than qualified to teach a class that was detrimental to you getting into your nursing program. He waited as the dial tone went through, but after a minute of waiting you still weren’t picking up and it went to voicemail. He sighed and hung up, and another stack of hot steam made its way out his mouth. It wasn’t unusual for you to not answer his phone, despite the man times of him scolding you for not picking up or responding timely. It irked him to his core when you didn’t answer his call, who knew if something could happen to you when he wasn’t there. He ran his hand through his hair and stuffed his phone back into his pocket grumbling your name. He knew you probably haven’t eaten today because of your anxiety before exams makes you ignore basic needs. At some point he was sure you were probably part avian for how little you ate in general. He decided to make a safe bet and get you food by walking into the café, determined to get home as fast as he could.
The plastic bag with two trays of your guys usual swung back and forth in his hand, as Yoongi speed walked his way home. The longer he waited for the take out to be served the more he thought about you possibly not being okay. He knew he was probably overthinking and protective, but it was his Kitty that we’re talking about. Waiting in a booth his leg started to bounce in impatience as he waited and glared at the receipt as if that would speed up the process any faster. As soon as his name was called he stood up abruptly with his tail swinging impatiently behind him, he snagged the bag and thanked the waitress curtly. He didn’t want to be rude, but when it came to your safety he could throw everything out the window. The sound of snow crunching under his Chelsea boots carried him all the way to the shared apartment complex that was about a 15-minute walk from the campus. He entered the elevator leading to the 5th floor of the complex and made his way over to apartment 512.
Winter, the season you weren’t about to gather anyone who would listen and rant and rave about it. No, it was the season you didn’t enjoy for a simple reason, you didn’t like the cold. The bitter cold stings and seeps into your bones and it always feels like needles prickling your skin. It only made it worse that you were alone in your apartment, bundled up in layers of shirts and leggings under sweat pants, a hoodie and pizza printed socks. You had your hood up and encompassing your head with the strings pulled so you only had a small outlet to watch the TV with. You also had your comforter with you on the couch to keep you extra warm. The occasional shiver racks through your body as you watch the reporter on TV report the weather is only going to get colder in the next few days. The news causes you to curl in more on yourself searching for any more potential heat. The effect of the hot coco you had earlier has worn off a while ago and so now you were relying on your own little cocoon to keep you warm. To add further to your situation, the adrenaline was finally wearing off and you were feeling exhausted after the stress of the past weeks.
You heard your phone ring in the familiar ringtone letting you know Yoongi was calling you. You groan in protest not wanting to answer the phone because that would require you to move. As any grown adult would you decided not to answer it, refusing to breech your little cocoon. You whimper because you miss your portable heater, for more than the simple reason of him being a literal flame. Finals have been so chaotic that you’ve both barely seen each other, despite living together. Your rooms are literally right across from one another. This semester you’ve been stuck with a morning schedule mostly and you’ve spent the majority of your time in the library to use all the figures and displays they have to help study for your Anatomy final. Honestly, besides the heat the Yoongi provided physically, your cheeks always warm up as well when Yoongi is near. The guy does something to your heart that has it doing summer saults. Yoongi has been cooped up in the studio as well, so the only time you get to run into one another is the time when Yoongi is making his way out of the apartment and you’re just coming back from the Library. At those times all you get to ask your best friend is how he’s doing and if the project is going well, before he’s off to finish his project and you to cram more at home.
Twenty minutes later Yoongi’s punching in the key code and rushing in from the outside with a plastic bag rustling as he makes his way through the door. He slips off his shoes and lazily tosses his backpack around near the entrance. “Y/N?” he calls out to you with a bit of frustration in his tone, checking if you’re are home. “Hmmmh”, you mumble from underneath your little fort and turn to look towards the entrance of the shared apartment. He sets the bag of take out on the kitchen counter and walks into the living room to finally fully take in your little arrangement. He scoffs a bit and smirks at how cute you look all bundled up as if the apocalypse is upon the horizon. He honestly wanted to scold you on the spot with his mouth agape ready to spill, but how can he when you’re in your given state. The scowl on his face softens a bit before he strides over to you and he sits down next to you and says, “I called and texted you asking if you wanted something to eat, but since you didn’t answer me…well I guess I’ll have to enjoy it all on my own.” You peek through your little hoodie hole at Yoongi and decided to slip it off to express to with the biggest smile you could to show how “pitiful” you were. By pulling back the hoodie you exposed a messy bun and makeup less face, a result of not caring about appearance today. You pull your best pus-in-boots eyes with your ears pulled back and to add to the grand effect you unfurl your tail from around your waist and stroke it innocently and sweetly remark, “you wouldn’t do that to me Yoongi, that would be inhumane.” You look up at look up through your lashes at Yoongi and move to curl into his side. He knew you were going to say that exact phrase, but when you pulled that face you knew would instantly melt him, he completely softens. You shiver because the cold has hit your neck, but smile because Yoongi feels like Summer. He stiffens for a second but then relaxes instantly when you curl up next to him. You inhale his scent and he smells like freshly pressed espresso and a bit like a campfire.
He’s the calming cool you seek in the Summer, but a comforting warmth in the Winter.
Normally, other hybrids would have not dared to even touch Yoongi because of his hard and cold exterior, but you’re the only one who’s able to do this with him. The rest of the group only can go so far with Yoongi, but he still protects them if someone dares to test any of them. Being your best friend for over a decade, he has learned how to let your simple actions of affection become the normalcy. He’s so used to you being affectionate towards him, but still his heart skips a beat when you reach out to him. Yoongi knows you like the back of his hand, he feels you shiver and questions, “is it really that cold?” You burry your face further into his shoulder and nod, mumbling something about your toes feeling frozen and will break upon mere contact. Your ears tickle his neck and he stifles a laugh at your pitiful act. He scratches your ears and instantly you purr in content. You feel at complete ease and slowly heat up with your dragon being your fireplace.
He lets you snuggle into his side for five minutes before he interrupts your comfort with “Hey popsicle, the food is going to get cold.” You grumble about not wanting to move, but Yoongi having hunger drive him he has to peel you off of him (despite every instinct internally telling him to pull you in closer) and walks to the kitchen. He brings the takeout to the living room and sets it on the coffee table and pulls out your tray and hands it to you. You open the tray and instantly light up and snag a plastic fork form the plastic bag. You take a bite and hum in content and do a little shoulder dance in happiness. Yoongi laughs at the sight and starts helping himself to his tray. He picks up the remote control and starts scrolling through the guide to look for a movie you both can tolerate. You ask each other in between bites about how each other’s finals went, and both eliciting a responding with “I’m just glad it’s over with.” Yoongi finds a movie that you both wouldn’t mind and fall into this lull of comfort of just being with each other. You scoot closer to Yoongi as you finished all the food in your tray and set it down on the coffee table empty. You lay your head on Yoongi’s shoulder and thank him for the meal. He only grunts in response, afraid if he turns his head to look down at you your faces will be closer than appropriate.
Half way through the movie, Yoongi has his arm around your shoulders bringing you into an embrace and you moved half your comforter over his legs to share the blanket. Yoongi’s breathing has evened out after some time and it’s become shallow as you feel the slow rise of his chest against your side. You tilt your head so you can look up at Yoongi to see if he’s actually asleep. It’s an instantly confirmation as his eyes are closed and his head slightly bobbing back and forth. You smile softly knowing he must’ve missed hours of sleep and his body is done fighting instinct to sleep. You stare at his face and observe his features. Since you’ve first meet Yoongi he’s always had his black hair and horns that adorn his forehead. Although when he was younger they weren’t more than an inch in length, now they’ve grown and curve back about seven inches. He’s always been handsome, but now as an adult he’s grown into his features adorned with a sharp jawline.
Confusion clouds your heart though, you’re not sure if Yoongi treats you as just a sister/best friend, or as a potential love interest. You can’t believe that a man this attractive and accomplished could ever like you. You’re just a plain jane, an average house cat. You heart hurts knowing that Yoongi would never look at you the way you do to him. You’ve seen the girls that chase after Yoongi since elementary school, but he always pushed them away. You know he cares more about his passion than chasing tails, at least that’s what he said when Taehyung asked him after the most popular girl in school gave him a love letter and rejected her.
You’re no delicate flower; at least since you started hanging around the guys, you’ve learned how to defend yourself physically and mentally and not take anything from anyone. As a cat hybrid there’s the stereotypes of cats being a snarky, standoffish and overall cruel. However, you break those stereotypes and really care about the wellbeing of others and even want to pursue a career as a nurse. Although you aren’t the most extroverted being out there like, you still like your time to yourself to be with yourself. That being said you don’t lack confidence with yourself, but you feel like you don’t deserve someone as amazing as Yoongi.
In kindergarten when Yoongi saved you once by pushing away a dog hybrid that was trying to bully you and cornered you on the playground, you became best friends. He pointed to the kid and told him to never to mess with what’s his in a low growl. At the time you were so shocked because Yoongi never talked to you directly besides that one time, but he was always hanging around the same circle of friends. Taehyung, Hoseok and Jimin, a panther hybrid, were only a second late coming behind Yoongi as he declared a threat and seeing the other hybrid book it with his tail between his legs. They picked you up off the ground and asked if you were okay inspecting for any damage. You nodded and looked up at Yoongi to mutter “Thank you” with a bright smile. After that day you would approach Yoongi and even offer him a part of your lunch box your mom would pack. The best friendship wasn’t instant but Yoongi came to keep you near as you would follow him around. You grew even closer in middle school when your parents finally left their office jobs after saving enough money and opening their own record store. Yoongi’s passion and interest for music grew after your dad showed him all the classics in the shop, and your mom introducing him to notorious rappers. Your mom may look like a sweet woman, but she enjoys her hardcore music. He would show up at the shop with the others when you were just sitting around on the weekends working on homework in the back. You both would just listen to tunes and try to recommend new artists when you ran across them. Eventually as you grew older you met new friends a few grades up of yours, a wolf hybrid named Namjoon and he brought in Seokjin, a brown bear hybrid. As you were a junior in high school a bunny hybrid named Jungkook, younger than all of you, came into the group through Jimin. The eight of you stuck together and became inseparable.
You got lost in studying Yoongi’s face that you failed to notice him getting closer to you. The bobbing of his head finally fell forward and landed with your foreheads meeting. His soft, warm breath tickles your face while your noses brushes against each others. Your cheeks instantly redden and panic sets in, you don’t know whether to move away or stay. Your breath tickles Yoongi’s face and he slowly opens his eyes and meet yours. He takes a second to just look into your eyes, Y/e/c irises sparkle with reflections of light from the TV. His widen a second later realized that this is real, he’s face to face with his Kitty. He backs away and coughs to cover up his pinking cheeks to pull of an act of nonchalance. You stand up abruptly and gather your blanket, you take one glance at Yoongi before stating shakily, “I’m..I’m going to go to sleep. I’ll see you tomorrow Yoongi.” Before he can even reply you’re already in your room shutting the door behind you.
Yoongi sits on the couch speechless, everything happened so fast, but at the same time nothing happened. His heart is beating in his chest so hard and fast that he feels the embers in his furnace creeping up his throat giving him a butterfly feeling. He leans back on the couch with his forearm over his eyes and sighs. He can’t help it anymore, he can’t deny that he just wants to protect you as his best friend.
What does this mean for you both now?

I have been working with children aged 3-12 in various classroom settings since I was 13. I've worked at summer programs, after school programs, and preschools. I'd like to think I have a fairly good grasp on what is "normal" for daycares. I honestly don't feel as if the center I work at is normal.
Today the kids were outside in 97 degree weather for over an hour, during the hottest part of the day. It's expected to be hot in the summer and kids need to run around outside. They put on sunscreen and brought water bottles. But I was still taken aback at them going outside to play and for that long. We didn't do that at other places I worked unless the kids were at a pool. We would get them outside in the morning when it was cooler and in a gym in the afternoon. Or sometimes they would still play outside in the afternoon but only for 20 minutes or so if it was truly that hot. I looked it up online and I read it was recommended that kids don't stay outside in that kind of heat for more than 15-30 minutes. They were outside for more than an hour. Is this normal?
The worst part was I was left completely alone at one point with 25 kids. For 45 minutes. During which a physical fight broke out between two 5 year olds, a girl fell from a tree and scraped her knee, another girl started crying because it was too hot outside, and a boy was running around screaming that others boys were "fucking fishes".
Actually, I'm left alone with the kids and out of ratio almost every single day. Sometimes I know in advanced when this happens (everyday after lunch when I go with the kids outside and my coworker stays inside for half an hour while she readies the room for nap), and sometimes I don't. I'll just look around and realize my coworker isn't around. And I don't know how long I've been alone or when she's coming back.
And I get it, day cares are notoriously and perpetually understaffed. The ratio is 15:1 outside. Today I was left alone with 25 kids running around a huge field. For more than just a couple minutes while a coworker ran to the bathroom.
Which leads me to my coworker, which is probably the most frustrating part.
She scolded a kid for writing "I love you" on a mother's day card because he wasn't "following instructions". Who cares if a kid wants to draw a heart or write "I love you" on a fucking mother's day card? It wasn't like he was throwing crayons across the room. The kid took it really personally and would have started crying if I didn't step in and soothe him.
She scolded a kid for washing his hands. Which, first off........why?????? Of all things to scold a germy child over, why hand washing? Second, the kid was picking his nose and eating his boogers, so I told him to go wash his hands. He was so confused because one teacher had told him one thing, and now another teacher was telling him something completely different. I tried to step in and explain, and my coworker instantly shot me down. I just said "okay" and walked away.
She isn't consistent with behavior or directions. One day she doesn't care if kids scream stuff at her during circle time, the next day she gives them a big talking-to about raising hands. Literally 2 seconds after scolding the kids to raise their hands, she asks a question. A kid blurts an answer out, so I remind her to raise her hand. She does. Another kid blurts an answer out. My coworker acknowledges the one who didn't raise her hand. I looked at the hand-raiser and said "I'm sorry, (child name)" loudly. She raised her hand, she did as she was told, and she still didn't get rewarded for doing the right thing. Instead, my coworker is rewarding the exact kind of behavior she doesn't want.
Yesterday she specified that the kids could play with either puzzles or a toy on the bookshelf. A kid walks over to a table and picks up some toys my coworker did not say they could play with. "Can you go pick out a toy on the shelf?" I ask the kid. The kid doesn't even look at me, and instead calls across the room to my coworker, "teacher, can I play with this toy?" My coworker says yes. She doesn't collaborate with me, and it's really hard to collaborate with her when I don't know exactly what she wants the kids to do because she keeps changing it up. And now the kid knows he can always play both sides until he gets what he wants.
During station time, she asked who wanted to do the science station. One boy raised his hand, and like 5 girls raised their hand. She went around and individually asked every single boy in the class, even the ones who didn't raise their hands, if they wanted to do the science station before she finally called on a girl.
AND she turned off the Disney music I was playing for the kids during playtime, without asking, and with like 10 more minutes to go. Wtf, it's not like I was blasting the Pussy Cat Dolls.
And then there's a couple of problem children. There is one in particular who just does not seem developmentally right to me. I noticed it the first day I worked with her. She has major issues with emotional regulation. She kicked a kid in the head because she didn't like where he was sitting. He wasn't looking at her. He wasn't even breathing in her direction. Kick. She slapped a girl with everything she had in her. It left a red mark on her arm. She punches and pushes and kicks and calls kids names every single day, and then lies and says they were the ones calling her names when I was standing right there next to her the whole time and saw the whole thing. I can't tell parents. There's no way for me to. I've asked my coworker. She doesn't like to file incident reports when the kid hurts others. The kids don't get report cards, so it's not like I can write anything down myself. I only work the morning shift and don't meet the parents during pick up time.
One day the girl started kicking the kid next to her during lunch. He was being very polite and asking her to stop. She did not stop. I asked her to stop. She did not. So I put myself in between her and the kid, as a physical barrier. She started kicking me instead. She got mad, stood up and started punching me in the stomach. My coworker walked by. I said "She was kicking him". My coworker kept on walking and didn't say anything or do anything to help me as I was getting beat up by a 4 year old. What do you do in this situation? I've never had a kid get violent on me before.
Another girl was acting up a different day. I tried to use positive words, redirection, asked her to play with me, asked her to play with her friends, tried asking her if anything was wrong...I didn't know what else to do. So I resorted to the whole "Do we need to tell your parents?" thing. My coworker said loudly in front of the kid "Her parents don't care." Thanks. That helps a lot. So even if we had some way to inform the parents of their child's behavior, my coworker wouldn't do it. Great. Is this normal? Most day cares I've worked at had either had a report card or parents were told about the kid's day at pick up by a staff member who had been there all day.
The other day a 3 year old got her foot stuck climbing a fence. The 3 year olds wanted to play with me in their fenced-in playground, but I had to go with my class to their playground. I was the only one out with my class, ratio was 18:1. I turned my back on the 3 year old to watch my class because otherwise no one else would, and the 3 year old had her teachers out on her playground to watch her. But apparently they weren't, because 2 minutes later I hear screaming. The kid has her foot stuck in the chain link fence and is crying because she is high up and doesn't know how to get down. Her teachers are on the other side of the playground, sitting in lawn chairs. They do not come over to help the child.
I know every day care has their struggles. I know kids are just learning by trial and error most of the time. I know every center is understaffed. But man... something about this place is just off.
One day my supervisor moved me from my typical classroom to another. Next thing I know, an inspector has showed up and is peaking in on all the classrooms to make sure we are all in ratio. Minutes after the inspector leaves, I get shuffled back to my original classroom.
Anyways I'm just super frustrated with my current day care in ways I've never been at other places.

12 Wardrobe Essentials You Shouldn’t Live Without

Let’s pause and take a second to look back and mentally picture the clothing items we had hanging in our closets ten years ago. Did you just cringe as much as I did? It’s likely that the most memorable items that came to mind were those short-lived trends that, if you are anything like me, you now choose to repress into your deepest, darkest memories. (If someone back then had just let me know that middle-school Paige was going overkill on the neon fad, the world would truly be a better place.) My point here is, you never know what the next hottest fashion trends will bring, nor what beloved pieces you have today will make you red in the face ten years down the road.
Nonetheless, there are some fashion staples that have stood the test of time and are here to stay. In today’s blog, I will elaborate on these basic, yet timeless pieces that every wardrobe should encompass to remain eternally stylish and chic.
1. White Tee
As a disclaimer, the listing of these wardrobe pieces has no rhyme or reason – except for this first item. This is the most important. You literally can never go wrong with a plain white tee (unless you’re a spiller). In my personal experience, I wear my simple white t-shirt about 80% of the time and I have absolutely no shame. To back up this fashion pick, let’s play a game. What goes well with some distressed jeans? A white tee. Some black high-waisted jeans? A white tee. Your favorite pair of shorts? A white tee. A pair of overalls? I think you see my point. Take my word that this is a timeless piece that should always hold a special place in one’s heart, or closet. Whatever.
2. Little Black Dress
No further explanation is really needed, right? It’s that one dress in your closet that all your other dresses wish they could be. One good-fitting LBD (little black dress) is your best friend when it comes to classy events without much notice. By simply switching out accessories, this piece can go from casual to elegant in seconds. To better ensure its versatility, aim for one with a modest length and high neckline.
3. Button-Up Shirt
As a business major, I would like to stress the importance that my white button-up serves in my closet. If you’re in need of a classy ensemble, there’s no going wrong with this piece. Throw this on tucked into some black pants or a pencil skirt and you’re good to go. Even if you’re going for an off-duty look, this classic top half-tucked into some high-rise jeans paired with some booties or heels is an effortless, yet totally chic look.
4. Jean Jacket
Ah, my trusty ol’ jean jacket. It truly holds a special place in my heart (and my closet). After becoming the hottest trend in the 80’s, it’s one that is sure to stick around for many years to come. Nothing spruces up an old t-shirt quite like a light-wash jean jacket, especially if you’re going for that 90’s grunge look. Even here in Wisconsin, where the weather is typically either 20 or 80 degrees, I find a way to sneak this classic in somewhere within the glimpses of spring. Pro tip: don’t make the same mistake I did; go for one that is a bit oversized so you can layer, layer, layer! Mine is a bit snug, but being a bit chilly sometimes is still 100% worth it.
5. Leather Jacket
The one piece of clothing that you can throw over any outfit and BAM! Instant badass. If you don’t own one yet, there’s plenty of styles to choose from. A faux leather moto jacket is the perfect starting point and you can find one pretty much anywhere. Coming from someone who looks for any reason to bring out my inner rebel (spoiler alert: it’s pretty much nonexistent), I guarantee you won’t regret it. Once you get a basic black one, you can even extend your collection by adding in some other colors. My closet consists of leather jackets in black, gray, white, brown, pink (for when I’m feeling more feminine vibes), and, my personal favorite, a floral embroidered one. Do I have an obsession? Probably. Am I ashamed of it? Not in the slightest.
6. Knit Sweater
Nothing says “cozy” quite like a big, soft sweater. As a college student that faces the true brutality of Wisconsin winters, chunky sweaters have been a lifesaving essential. This is probably the one item that I would vouch for as being most splurge-worthy. There are far too many itchy sweaters in the world that fall apart after two washes, so my advice to you is to seek out a comfortable, long lasting one. You deserve it. Now, say it with me: “I am better than itchy sweaters”.
7. Go-To Jeans
So, you had a plan to go over to meet a friend for lunch, but you overslept, you’re already running late and you have yet to get dressed... and do your hair… and makeup. We’ve all been there. There’s always the option to hit cancel on the hair and makeup; just bun it up and go for the au naturel makeup look that is so in. Alas, you probably still need to put on some clothes (I know what you’re thinking, but let’s just assume your just-slept-in yoga pants just won’t cut it this time). You don’t have the time to try on every pair of pants in your closet, not this time. So, what jeans are you thinking? If you have one specific pair in mind, your one true pantsmate, you are a lucky gal. If not, you owe it to yourself to go find that special pair. High-rise, low-rise, boot cut, skinny, whichever you fancy. Go find that pair that speaks to you. One you can always rely on, even around the holidays (i.e. stretchy fabric is your best friend). If you’re having trouble finding your pantsmate, here’s a helpful article on which jeans are best for your body type. Go on, get educated; become a jeanius.
8. Leggings
This is just a given, we all have ‘em. They’re truly amazing. Life-changing, even. Finding a sturdy, warm pair of black high-rise leggings will surely get you through any challenges life throws at you. Hence, why they make up half of the official finals week uniform, along with a greatly oversized sweatshirt that probably hasn’t been washed since syllabus week. On top of that, they serve an even greater purpose rather than wallowing in salty finals tears: working out. Who knew? I can’t be the only one who only works out 2% of the time when I wear these. Nonetheless, leggings are an essential for both everyday wear, or for the workout buffs (kudos to you, brave warriors). Also, I must add that leggings with pockets do exist and they are a total game-changer.
9. Pencil Skirt
The ultimate formal attire must-have. For any occasion where you just aren’t feeling a dress, a solid pencil skirt with a nice blouse or button-up is your best friend. This simple, timeless piece is one that will never not look classy and stylish. Plus, if you find a good quality one like I did, it may just last you for over 10 years. (I bet middle-school Paige didn’t see that coming.) My pencil skirt has gotten me through almost every single presentation in college thus far and I don’t plan on trading it in anytime soon.
10. Ankle Boots
Who doesn’t love a good pair of booties? They are the ultimate autumn fashion staple that you are guaranteed to fall in love with. I own two trusty pairs of booties: one in black faux leather, and the other in taupe suede. Both have been through countless lectures, business meetings, and crunched their way through the crisp fall leaves on the way there. They are the ultimate comfort shoes.
11. Black Pumps
Now, I’m going to assume here that no one likes walking in heels. We typically wear them to dress up an outfit, improve our posture, accentuate our legs, or to give us a little confidence boost. No matter what the reason, a pair of simple black pumps can really do it all. Whether you’re heading to a business meeting, happy hour, or a casual date night, they’re one accessory that won’t let you down (unless a heel breaks and in that case, they are quite literally letting you down). I suggest you invest in a pair that is somewhat comfortable. Believe it or not, there are some shoe makers aren’t out to kill your poor feet. Here are some top-rated heel brands based on their comfortability.
12. Basic Sneakers
If you were to see me any day during the week, odds are that I’d be wearing either my Slick Adidas or my Snappy Vans. That’s right, I even named them. Walking-friendly shoes are a necessity, especially for college students. I honestly have not realized the amount of walking I would face in my life until I entered college. However, with a nice pair of worn-in sneakers, the lack of car travel is no problem. I’d recommend either black or white; that way, they pair well with any outfit.
So, there you have it: the wardrobe pieces that have a lifetime membership to my closet. What is one timeless wardrobe piece you couldn’t live without?

okay, so today. all around pretty good. having a school-free day during the week is really nice. Gives me a chance to catch up on stuff I didn’t get a chance to do over the weekend. I had set my alarm for 10:55 for my 11:30 PT appointment, but I ended up waking up around 9 and couldn’t fall back asleep, so I got up and made breakfast, and just relaxed a little. I was doing the dishes and I guess I lost track of time, because the next thing I knew the clock said 11:40 and I was just like CRAP. So I called them and said I was running late but would be there ASAP, thankfully my apartment is like a 7 minute walk from them so I was able to get there pretty quickly. the session kicked my butt once again, which I’m thinking is going to be the pattern from now on, because we’re working on “strengthening exercises” and I guess that means going super hardcore. but hey, I’m not complaining, because I know working out is good and I should be doing it anyway. There was a good moment where my PT guy wanted me to do a plank on my knees and I did it and was like......I’m not getting anything from this haha and had to go back onto my feet to actually get a stretch, so that felt good. I had planned on going grocery shopping after PT because the grocery store is directly between my apartment and the PT place, so it makes sense to go there post-session. I brought my cart with me which I usually stash behind the front desk while in session. Well, I was a good amount into my shopping before I realized I left the cart at PT, so I called them again and said I’d come get it when I finished shopping. So I did the rest of my shopping, it had been like a week and a half, but I didn’t think I needed to get all that much, but somehow it added up to a lot of stuff physically at least, the 5 pound bag of flour and the 4 pound bag of sugar definitely didn’t help. so I get to the check out and end up with four plastic bags full of stuff, I figure I’ll keep them in the cart until I get to the edge of the parking lot, and then just carry it from there because the PT place is just across the street from there. Well, while I was getting ready to take the bags out of the cart, my phone rang, so I answered, and in an interesting twist of events it was one of the lawyers from the public guardian’s office, the one I had my office across from my first semester there and was very friendly with. She was like “are you busy?” and I was like “not particularly” despite the fact that I was standing in a parking lot with a cart full of groceries in 30 degree weather, because I wanted to talk to her lol. She had a question about some research she needed to do about how other states handled the issue of infants brought into care that need to have DNR’s signed because they’re just fully in failure to thrive (sadly a common occurrence in neglect of infants) or are similarly injured from abuse and look like they’re not going to make it. so she was wondering if I knew anything about how New York handled it or if I could tell her who she could contact there to find out. I didn’t know anything about it in NY because I’ve spent a relatively short amount of time actually learning New York law, but I was able to point her in the direction of several different offices that could help, so that was good. Once the phone call was over I took all the very heavy bags out of the cart and dragged them across the street, which turned into quite the feat, lol. But I got there and grabbed my cart, then had to deal with sticking all the stuff in, which is much more difficult when they’re in bags, because they can’t fit in all the space around it like things normally can, so I ended up still carrying one with a very heavy cart. So I headed out, came across a man on the sidewalk asking if I had any money to help a wounded veteran, and I sadly told him I didn’t have any cash on me (which I didn’t, of course, I don’t lie about stuff like that) and he asked if I had any change, so I checked what I had. I only ended up having one quarter because I typically take them out for laundry, but I gave that to him along with a giant handful of pennies, nickels, and dimes, and he was really happy and kept saying thank you and like.....I don’t understand why anyone would not want to do good deeds when they literally are so satisfying for you, and of course you’re helping another person which is invaluable. but yeah, that interaction made me happy. I dragged my groceries the rest of the way home, then took them up the stairs in two trips, and man, I was so dead by the time I got them there, lol. But I put them away, and then tried to start my secured transactions reading for class tomorrow night. The assignment was 60 pages, and as I’m sure you can imagine it’s not the most thrilling reading, and half of it was basically an extensive example of a terms and conditions disclaimer regarding automobile sales on credit, so that wasn’t great. But I did the rest of it and finished just in time to watch The Flash! I liked the episode overall. I was hoping for some hinting on how they’re going to get Barry out of prison, so I was a little sad that didn’t happen, but the rest of it I liked a lot. The whole storyline with Barry seeing the good will that was built up by Henry when he was there gave me a lot of dang feelings, I really liked it (and Barry kicking the bad guys asses in the end by speed-repositioning their limbs so they knock themselves out was immensely satisfying, lol). The Ralph stuff was probably better than it’s been up to this point, so that’s an improvement at least. and he did save the day in the end, even if he had to brave getting hurt to make it happen. So overall I liked it. then of course, we had Black Lightning!! which had another awesome episode. I love what they’re building up to with Jefferson coming back into being a superhero and taking back his town. like, god, he’s just SUCH a good character, his writing is impeccable, I don’t even know how else to put it. I also loved how Anissa having a girlfriend wasn’t even a plot point, it was just accepted as normal and not made into a big deal. It’s good to see where moving into having LGBT characters on tv shows where their sexuality is just part of them, not a plot for the show. And damn, that moment at the end where she’s in the drug store that’s being held up and she legit sends the guy flying over like 3 aisles was SO badass, definitely my favorite scene in the episode. I can’t wait for her powers to be developed more fully and her getting to be an actual superhero fighting alongside her dad. But yeah, very good. After it was only 9 pm so I didn't want to go to bed yet, so I started watching The Royals on a suggestion from a friend who is a big fan of it. It’s interesting so far. it’s apparently American produced, but it feels very english in tone, lol. First few episodes were enjoyable, so we’ll see where it goes from there. I do want to start Agents of Shield at some point as well as the show Mistresses which Jes McCallan (the actress who plays Ava on Legends) was in for like 3 seasons, so we’ll see where I go from there. And yeah, after watching them I started getting ready for bed and here we are. I’m tired so I’ll end it here. Goodnight babes. Stay safe and warm.

Stop 6: Buffalo, NY
Today would’ve been our 3 year anniversary. I typically don’t crank out a blog post in only one day right after the trip and would want to take more time to write...especially since I have so much to write about for this post. But I felt that I needed to do something today for Brent. I look at the number 3 and think, “Jeez it’s been that long?” but I also look at it and think, “That all happened in a blink of an eye.” On my last trip up in Syracuse when Amanda (a different one than the Amanda I went to Buffalo with) and I had been on a walk, she told me that she was sad that I had such little time with Brent. It’s true but at the same time when I look back at our relationship I like to think that maybe it was me that he needed and not necessarily the other way around. There was a reason I met him at the time that I did and it was me that was with him through all of the wonderful ups and excruciating downs. As odd as it sounds, I’m glad it was me that could be there for him. Our relationship wasn’t normal by any means. But the first half of it was and I wouldn’t trade any part of it for anything.
I went back to New York again for another stop. But I will say each of these trips to the Empire State are drastically different from one to the next. Amanda picked me up from my apartment at 6:15am on Saturday morning. We made the trip up to Wilkes-Barre to scoop up her boyfriend who was Brent’s old roommate, Greg. Then we drove to New Columbia, PA to meet Amanda’s parents, Mike and Barbara, at a Holiday Inn to jump into their truck and finish the drive to Buffalo, New York.
The drive was long. Like 5+ hours long. But it was scenic and completely worth it. I got to know Amanda’s parents who are hysterical and remind me of my sister-in-law’s parents quite a bit. They are super nice, conversational and have many stories to tell. I’m not sure if this is a Sweet family hidden talent or what...but I’ve learned that Amanda and her parents do this trick where they balance a piece of food on their left hand and pop it up into their mouth by hitting said hand with their right one. Amanda first did this in my apartment with a goldfish and I thought it was the best thing ever until Mike did without a problem during a our trip up.

That laughter in that video! I feel like that’s all I heard this weekend and it was absolute music to my ears. Buffalo had been added to my list of places to visit for Brent because of the Bills Mafia. (If you click on any links in this blog post click this one on the Bills Mafia and watch a short documentary on the fans.) Amanda was literally one of the only Buffalo Bills fans I knew (aside from Danny which I only found out a few months ago!) and Brent and I knew she attended games often. Over the last year or so, the Bills Mafia, received a little more street credit and attention. They are apparently some of the wildest fans in the NFL and Brent and I really wanted to experience a tailgate with the Mafia. We wanted to go not necessarily to part-take in the mess they create but honestly just to witness the pure and utter mayhem of the tailgate. When Brent was undergoing treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering Amanda and Greg would come and visit us on weekends up in New York at the Hope Lodge. They also came to see him when he was in North Jersey just outside of the city. Many football games were watched with friends over those weekends. College game day on Saturdays and then Sunday football the next. Amanda at one point promised Brent that as soon as he was better, she would get him to a Bills game with her family so he could participate in a true Buffalo tailgate. A couple of months ago Amanda asked if I still wanted to go to a game for Brent. The answer was obviously yes and I’m so glad we were able to make it work. Brent would’ve LOVED the entire weekend.
Amanda and her parents are die hard Buffalo Bills fans. Mr. and Mrs. Sweet are high school sweethearts that grew up outside of Buffalo in a town called Dansville and they’ve been attending Bills’ tailgates for over 40 years together. Honestly, I’ve learned that being a Bills fan is serious business and there are traditions and routines that take place for game weekends. Such as wings and beers. We arrived in Western New York around 2pm and went straight to Duff’s for said wings and beers. Typically, the Sweets head to Anchor Bar for this but wanted to switch it up this time around. So we stopped at the original Duff’s location in Amherst, New York. If you are unfamiliar with these two spots like I was, the Anchor Bar and Duff’s is to Buffalo as Pat’s and Geno’s cheesesteaks is to Philadelphia...even though Dalessandro’s is where the best cheesesteak is at.

These “before” and “after” photos do NOT do any justice to the damage we did. Out of the 50 wings, the 5 of us consumed almost 40 of a them, a large order of fries and more than 2 pitchers of Labatt Blue Light. Oh and some veggies and dip. It was all so good. Also, I feel as though people don’t refer to them as “buffalo wings” anymore and just “wings.” I will admit it wasn’t until I got home Sunday evening that I put two and two together. I mean, do you honestly say “buffalo sauce” or “buffalo wings”? Or do you say “hot sauce” or just “Frank’s.” But anyway, Amanda sent me a brief history on buffalo wings which you can read here.
After we had our fill, we went to check-in at Hotel at the Lafayette. Which is an old hotel in the city of Buffalo that is apparently haunted and has it’s own brewery. We got settled, freshened up and had a couple of beers before roaming about the city for the night. Traditionally, the Sweets would drive to Niagara Falls the day before the game, stay the night, wake-up and drive to Buffalo to tailgate. But recently, they’ve started exploring Buffalo and staying more local. I also think it’s safe to say after the weekend we had, they will probably continue to stay in Buffalo.
We walked out and it was a chilly 30something degrees. It is definitely winter already in Buffalo which wasn’t a surprise as I had been watching their weather the entire week leading up to the trip. It was very dark out and one of the first bars we saw was called, “The Cowboy.” As we started walking closer we couldn’t tell if it was going to be a bar, strip club, or an actual whole in the wall. We peered into the windows and it was dark and empty but I insisted that we went in. There wasn’t ONE patron in sight. The bartender, Kaleigh, in her glitter eye shadow and pajama pants who was 20 was the only one there. It was a dark bar, with cowboy hats as lamp shades on the bulbs above the bar rail, a couple of naked cowgirls painted on the walls (who I will leave out of this for the time being) and barrels around poles which served as high tops near the dance floor. We ordered some beers, fireball, hung out, played with hoola hoops and enjoyed having the place to ourselves for the time being.
After we finished our drinks we continued down Chippewa Street which seemed to have the most activity and night life on it. Mike asked me about my name so I explained where it came from and then he asked if I had any siblings and what their names were. I laugh when people ask me that because I know exactly what they’re expecting. If my name is a uncommon Gaelic name, ‘Aisling’ and pronounced as ‘Ashleen’, my sibling must have some off the wall name as well. So I looked at Mike and said, “Yes! I have a brother. His name is Christopher.” He laughed and asked me my middle and last name. He immediately loved my middle name, Coyne, which was my maternal grandmother’s maiden name. Mike didn’t call me anything but Coyne for the rest of the trip.

We were crossing the street when out of the corner of my eye I saw D’Arcey McGee’s ... immediately Amanda’s Dad wanted to go in. It was a cool Irish bar that resembled a Tir Na Nog or Kildare’s but just not a chain. There was a lot of dark wood work going on, wooden booths, arches and shelving throughout along with typical “vintage” Guinness ads and artwork. But as soon as we walked in there, AGAIN there wasn’t ONE patron in sight. Just Brianne, the bartender. We couldn’t get over it. WHERE WAS EVERYONE?! Then we soon realized it was only 5:30pm on a Saturday night. We ordered our beers and Amanda decided to test the bar tender by requesting an espresso martini. We all somewhat scoffed at Amanda and her order and Brianne definitely took her time with it. That made Amanda even more skeptical of the bartender. But after a while and a couple of eye rolls from Amanda, she finally got her drink and it turned out to be a really good martini. We hopped off our bar stools and checked out the rest of the space...which was huge. There was a pool table and dart board around the corner. So we posted up an played a couple games of pool.

Mike started saying, “Coyne this! Coyne that!” This is where all of a sudden Greg got this look of excitment in his eyes and got on this tangent to Amanda that if they ever have a son he’s being named Coyne Quinn. He said, “WHAT A RING THAT HAS TO IT. COYNE QUINN, AMANDA!” He then continued, “Just imagine. Coyne Quinn as a quarterback for Penn State football. He would be on highlights on ESPN and with every amazing complete pass they would play the Mario Brother’s sound effect of when they punch a box and a coin would come out. THERE’S COYNE QUINN GOING DEEP. DING. AND THE THROW. DING. IT’S GOING LONG. DING. COMPLETION. DING. ANOTHER ONE. DING. A TOUCHDOWN. DING. DING. DING.” Amanda rolled her eyes and told Greg their children would be playing tennis. “No contact sports, Greg. I don’t wanT our children getting concussed. Tennis. Golf. Volleyball. No contact sports!” After Greg returned an eye roll back at her, Amanda and I joined in on a game of pool and Mike showed off his skills.
youtube
I'm honestly not very good at pool but would like to be. Side note: If anyone could teach me, I would greatly appreciate it! Mike's only tip and instruction he gave to me the entire game was to “Level your stick and close your mouth.” We played a few games and then decided to find another bar and perhaps something to eat. As we walked down the street again we came across a place called Taphouse Pub & Grill. It was a standard bar but had a decent draft list and at least had patrons in it. I tried a local beer from a brewery called Rusty Chain and it was some sort of red ale, I believe. It was a smaller bar with a couple of tables but plenty of stools at the bar. They had several televisions for the games that were on along with Impracticable Jokers which I learned Mike hates. We hung out and chatted. The bar had a small popcorn machine in the corner by the front entrance. The first time I had ever saw that was in Delaware. I had no idea that popcorn machines were a thing at bars. But apparently it is in Buffalo as well. We got some popcorn and we did the obvious...the Sweet Family Trick. Barbara popped a couple into her mouth. I watched the Sweets do it over and over again. It did take me two or three tries, but was so excited to have done it.
youtube
After our drinks we decided that we wanted more ambiance or a livelier atmosphere. We then found a place right across the street called Local Kitchen & Beer Bar. The place was buzzing and had the most life in it than any other establishment we had been in at that point. I ordered a local cider, Greg ordered a Genesee and also got some apps for everyone to share. We talked about Brent. Correction, we talked about Brent a lot. Greg was there the night Brent was placed on the ventilator and I feel so terrible about it. Brent and I bought concert tickets for my old roommate’s birthday. Brent had wanted me to go to the concert that Friday night. I asked Greg if he would be able to visit with Brent that night and that I would be at the hospital bright and early the following morning. I just didn’t want him to be alone even if he slept the whole time. It would just be nice if he rolled over and realized he wasn’t alone. I received a call at 9:30pm from Greg that night that something was happening and the doctors wanted to put Brent on a ventilator. Every time I see Greg I feel the need to apologize that he had to be there for that and see Brent go through what he did. Greg always tells me he was so glad he could be there for Brent whether or not he knew he was in the room with him. I’ve relived those last 10 hours of Brent’s life that I spent with him and his family probably 100 times over and it was absolutely, heartbreakingly tragic. I wouldn’t want anyone to ever have to witness anything remotely close to what we saw, felt, talked about and experienced that night into the morning. Greg and Brent went to the same high school in Wilkes-Barre but actually didn’t know one another then. They met at West Virginia University when one Greg was visiting one of Brent’s college roommates, Brett! They didn’t really start hanging out until Greg moved to Philadelphia and Brent got out of the hospital for his first go around with cancer.
A couple of years ago when I had just started dating Brent, Greg moved in with him in Brent’s apartment in East Falls. It turns out Greg had started dating Amanda shortly before Brent and myself. After a year or so of dating, Greg and Amanda moved into a place together which ended up being across the street from my current apartment! Brent and I love Greg and Amanda and we always stood them up. It was awful. Something would always come up or it would be something with Brent’s health when we had dinner plans scheduled. We always felt so guilty. The first time I ever met Amanda was at my first Carve 4 Cancer. I vividly remember standing by the raffle table and I felt somebody holding me by my arm saying, “Wait, are you Aisling?” I hardly knew anyone there at that point and just met a couple dozen of Brent’s friends from home. By the way, that happened ALL of the time. Brent would introduce me to friends and it was never a one off. I always felt like I met 15 to 50 friends at one time. So if I ever forget your name, please accept this apology. As I looked at this girl, I nervously shook my head up and down and she introduced herself as Greg’s girlfriend, Amanda. We’ve been in touch and became friends with Amanda ever since. I refer to her as Lasagna Amanda a lot but mainly to my family. When Brent had passed she showed up to my apartment with a handwritten letter, a beautiful bouquet of flowers and a homemade lasagna. Greg made fun of her and forewarned me about her cooking via group text. But she did a wonderful job. I’m grateful for these two and the support they’ve given Brent and myself over the last year and a half and their friendship for the last three years. After Greg and I wrapped up our pow-wow and dried some tears we asked the “Catch me outside” doppleganger twins to our left to take our photo.

We were just about ready to make our way back to the hotel as we had another early and action packed day ahead of us. But on the walk back I suggested that we stop by The Cowboy to see it in all it’s glory for a nightcap. Welp, said nightcap turned into an extended stay...simply just to dance.
We walked back in and thankfully there was a crowd but maybe only two people on the dance floor. You would’ve thought that bar had been waiting for us to come back to bring the life of the party, Barbara. We tore up the dance floor, the young boys were all over Amanda’s mom, we became best friends with the DJ with our song requests, more people left their bar stools to join the dance floor, and a bartender (not Kaleigh and her sparkly eye shadow) came out and got a line dance going. The next day the line dancing was all Amanda could talk about and how much she loved it along with the stomping and clapping. NOTE TO GREG: BUY YOUR GIRLFRIEND SOME FLOWERS AND TAKE HER LINE DANCING. We all let our hair down, even Mike! We created a little bit of a scene and let’s just say the dance floor was sad to see us go at the end of the night.

We grabbed a slice on the way back to the hotel and called it a night. Well, kind of. Fast forward a couple of hours later. I found myself standing outside of the hotel room I was staying in with Amanda and Greg in the middle of the night. Then I remember being downstairs trying to communicate with the front desk. Then I found myself back on the third floor knocking on our door when I came to and fully woke up. In my pajamas. In the hallway. Without any shoes on. And for some reason I wasn’t all that embarrassed. I went back downstairs and had a fully conscious conversation and apologized to the front desk but also laughing at the fact that I had just been sleepwalking/talking to them. They chuckled and the manager asked me if I was okay at this point (because I was babbling less than five minutes ago) and called my room, 320. But of course. Nobody picked up the phone. I continued to apologize as I stood there in a pair of Brent’s Nike sweatpants and a highlighter yellow Milwaukee Carve 4 Cancer t-shirt. I then tell them that Mike Sweet booked the rooms and is staying at the hotel with his wife, Barbara, but didn’t know his room number offhand. After the manager gave me a questioning look and found their room number, he called up. He told them, “There is a girl down here that wants to come up to your room.” I told the manager to say my name since his phone call made me sound so shady and I was afraid Barbara would tell him she wasn’t expecting anyone. The manager told me I could go up and told me their room number. Barbara was in the hallway on the phone with Amanda. “Is Aisling in your room, Amanda?” “Of course she is mom! She’s out here on the...Oh no.” As I ran down the hallway, I apologized and explained what had happened and was sorry for scaring anyone. Then I found my way back into my room with Amanda laughing hysterically at me at 2:30 in the morning.
Fast forward 4.5 hours later. The three of us got showered, geared up and met up with Amanda’s parents for a quick breakfast before making our way to the tailgate. I explained again what had happened only a couple of hours earlier to Mike. The weird part about it was they were JUST telling me stories about Amanda’s dad sleepwalking the day before. I haven’t done that in years. But we then packed up the car and headed to the grocery store for ingredients for “beef on weck” and then went to the tailgate. Beef on weck is a Western New York sandwich found primarily in Western New York State. It is made with roast beef on a kimmelweck roll (a roll with salt and caraway seeds on top). The meat on the sandwich is traditionally served rare, thin cut, with the top bun getting a dip au jus and spread with horseradish. AND IT’S DELISH. We got to the tailgate for 9:30am. But let me tell you...they don’t go to a parking lot outside of New Era Field or anything like that. They park in somebody’s backyard. YUP. There is a line of houses across the street from the stadium that has tailgating and parking there for the Buffalo Bills’ entire season and it’s wild.

Pictured above is the house where the Sweets always tailgate. Once you get to the garage there at the end of the driveway you veer to the right and there is a giant Bills mural on the side of the wall and a yard where cars just line up and hang out. Also, the answer to the question you’re thinking is no...they don’t personally know the owner of the house. Ha.

If I could have I would have slapped a #LiveLikeBrent sticker on this wall. We grabbed a drink and then went for a walk through a tailgate lot across the street. The weather was perfect for a mid-November football game. It definitely felt like a November day with grey skies and the crisp air. But it wasn’t that chilly...especially for being in Buffalo. A couple of the Sweets’ family friends have a truck that they have tricked out and serve drinks out of. So we went over and I was in awe of this what looked like a Tastykake truck turned Bills mancave bar. We hopped on up and into the back of the truck and there were shots lined up on the bar, a bar tender, and fixings for bloody Marys. Barbara, Greg and I ordered a couple of bloodies. Brent and I always ordered bloody Marys any chance we got. We’ve had quite the array in the last few years to say the least ranging from bloodies topped with a stout, bloodies with crab meat, shrimp, you name it, we’ve probably had it. The one topped with a stout was from the Field House in Philadelphia which was surprisingly our favorite bloody we’d ever had but...never would I ever thought I would say this but the one I had this weekend was hands down the new best bloody Mary I’ve ever had. It blew Field House’s out of the water. I wish I asked what the spices were in the mix because I couldn’t figure it out. All Greg and I kept saying was, “THIS IS SO GOOD. THIS IS THE BEST BLOODY MARY EVER. OH MY GOD.” In addition to the drink, there was a ball of fresh mozzarella, olive, pearled onion, chunk of pepperoni, celery stick and then a slice of bacon all to garnish and they were all rolled in something like parmesan. But in all seriousness it was exactly what we needed that morning. A Bud Light just wasn’t sounding all that appetizing at that hour. But who knew that I’d find my favorite bloody Mary at a Buffalo Bills tailgate?

We left the mancave tailgate and made our way to the tailgate lots at the stadium. Apparently there is this guy named “Pinto Ron” and if you watched the Bills Mafia video I told you to watch earlier in this post you would know who he is by now! But he is a Buffalo Bills fan that is known for attending every single Bills game (home AND away) and for hosting tailgate parties since 1994. Now that’s quite the commitment. I can’t get some people to commit to something 2 or 3 weeks out mind you this guys commits to entire NFL seasons. We didn’t find Pinto Ron but did find a lot of other...things. I initially imagined a Buffalo Bills tailgate as an extremely bad Wal-Mart crowd. Like really bad. But we didn’t run into anything too extreme or savage. It was still only 10:30 in the morning mind you.

After circling a couple of lots and swimming through a sea of Bills fans, we made our way back to our backyard tailgate. Mike was cooking the meat for beef on weck. It was really, really good. Honestly...it’s all in the bun and because Mike was wearing his sick Bills sweatshirt that he referred to as his P. Diddy hoodie.

After we ate we started to pack up camp. It was almost 12noon and kickoff was for 1pm against the Saints. As we got ready and started making our way back over, Greg and I were determined to witness some Bills Mafia mayhem. At this point they’ve had a couple hours of day drinking in them and must have been getting into a mess at that point. We’ve watched videos of guys throwing guys off of trucks on top of tables, throwing their girlfriends to smash tables and just being straight up wild. I kept telling Greg I was going to throw him through a table.
It turns out we were a minute too late. We saw probably close to a dozen broken tables, articles of clothing, and a sea of LaBatt beer cars everywhere all over the lot. Oh and these kids bonging beers out of a mannequin and yes, the guy holding back puke is wearing an OJ Simpson Bills jersey. To be quite frank, if Brent had been there he probably would’ve asked to chug a beer out of that mannequin.

By the way, Greg was totally in his element at this point. Periodically, I would look up at him and he would be grinning from ear to ear. I mean, the whole thing was ridiculous how wild everyone there was as a part of the Bills Mafia. As we were walking, I was waiting to hear Greg say, “We need to stay here.” Or “Let’s keep going up and down the rows a few more minutes.” He looked like a 5 year old on Christmas morning. But it was almost 1pm so we made our way over to the stadium.

The Sweets have really awesome (or should I say...”sweet”) season tickets on the club level. What’s neat about New Era Field is that when you enter, you’re on the ground level but the field is below you. So they not only built up but down into the ground. Why? Lake Erie. Lake Erie is RIGHT there and Lake Ontario isn’t all that far either so you can get these incredible winds ripping through right off of the water and it would be too much to be sitting that high and getting blasted. I thought that was pretty interesting though.

The Bills were up for a little by 3 points. But let’s just say that was pretty short lived. But it was still fun to be there. I had been to a NFL game when I was pretty young and barely remember it so I considered this my first time at one. I thoroughly enjoyed it even if the Bills didn’t win. We left during the third quarter since we had over 6 hours of driving ahead of us and there was no chance the Bills were going to bounce back. With that being said, yes we did miss the streaker. While the Bills didn’t seem that alive on the field, the Bills Mafia sure as hell was.
youtube

We hopped in the truck and made our way southbound. Considering we had such nice seats and were on club level, I didn’t find the right spot to place a #LiveLikeBrent sticker in Buffalo. But I bought a t-shirt for one of Brent’s best friends in Philadelphia and only other Bills fan I know, Dan. As we were standing in the tailgate lot earlier in the day, a guy was walking around selling t-shirts and I felt if Brent were there he would’ve bought it since it had the steal your face logo on it. So I asked Greg and Amanda to take a photo with the sticker. I trust that one time Amanda will come across the perfect spot for one.

Thank you to The Sweets and Greg for your hospitality and for such a fun weekend. I haven’t laughed that much in 24 hours in a very long time. I loved my first time in Buffalo and Brent would’ve as well. You are some of the best people and I’m thankful to have you in my life here in Philadelphia.

A conversation with Nick Eh 30, the Fortnite streamer who signed with Twitch

Nick Eh 30 is one of the most recognizable Fortnite players on the planet, and he’s making the move to Twitch September 1.
Nick Eh 30, YouTube’s top Fortnite streamer, announced Thursday that he partnered with Twitch and will begin streaming on the Amazon platform. Creative Artists Agency (CAA) orchestrated the deal for Nick Eh 30 and Twitch.
The announcement comes almost a month after Ninja left for Mixer, which is run by Microsoft. Nick Eh 30, repped by CAA, will still post gameplay videos and vlogs on his channel, which has over 4.6 million subscribers. But the move is a significant pick-up for Twitch after losing esports’ biggest name in Ninja.
If you aren’t familiar with Nick Eh 30, he’s known for more than just his Fortnite skills. His manners and family-friendly content are what he’s built his foundation on, along with funny moments, and unbelievable tricks on the world’s most popular video game.
He took time to talk to SB Nation about his move to Twitch, his perfect manners, and why he microwaves his ice cream, among other interesting food habits.
This interview has been edited for length and clarity.
For some people who are reading this and might not know who you are, tell us how you got started in gaming.
Nick Eh 30: It started with trying to prioritize school. From junior high to high school, I was getting straight As. On top of this, I was doing Taekwondo, guitar lessons and many other extracurricular activities. When I do something, I want to do something to the best of my ability, so the main thing I wanted to do was become a doctor. Eventually, I stopped doing all those extracurricular activities. I wouldn’t really do much outside, I didn’t have too much of a social life or anything, I didn’t really go with friends.
So naturally, I had to take breaks from studying. Video games were my quick break, my quick little getaway from school, and then I could get right back into it and really, really grind. Eventually, this kind of turned into a love and a passion that I wanted to share.
When I was in university and high school, I would be uploading videos just for fun. People would say, “Nick, you make my day, thank you for making this, thank you for making me laugh.” It made me really happy, and I loved editing and recording, and it basically kept going on from there.
My parents gave me a year to take a break from university. They would support me, and if I became successful [at something], I could keep on doing it. If not, I’d have to go back to school and become a doctor.
Live streaming took off around the time of Fortnite, and I had a little bit of talent on Fortnite when most people were very new to the game and didn’t catch on as quickly. People really liked tuning into my streams because I share tips and tricks and because I was walking through my thought process. It just kept spiraling up from there and growing, growing, growing, and here I am today.

Nothing better than Fortnite with friends! @sanchowest
A post shared by Nick Eh 30 (@nickeh30) on Aug 7, 2019 at 12:21pm PDT
Obviously, there’s no sure thing in this world, so what was it like taking time away from school since that’s not a traditional move? Were there any nerves there?
NE30: Oh yeah, and before then, school was my bread and butter. That was my happiness, that was what I relied on. When I started to do a little bad in school — like I wasn’t performing like I used to because I was just burnt out on it — it got me feeling a little down and nervous. That was my future up until I thought, “OK, maybe I could do YouTube.” When I started doing YouTube, I was a lot happier. It was scary, but I would say because of the hard work I was a little more confident.
Was there one thing that really helped your channel take off, or was it just about consistently putting out good content that people knew was going to be there?
NE30: One big thing was streaming early in the morning when every other big streamer on YouTube was offline. I would be a streamer with like 200 viewers, but I was the top streamer because everyone was offline. Everyone who was getting 10,000 viewers, 15,000 viewers, they were all gone. I was making sure to get up early — 5 a.m. — every single day, which transitions into another point: consistency. Literally took no breaks — seven days a week, five hours in the morning at the time, five hours at night at the time. It was just an early-morning stream every single day, and an afternoon stream every single day. So I think those were the two big things.
Your move to Twitch is obviously a big deal, and the timing shouldn’t be lost on anybody with Ninja’s recent move to Mixer. I’m curious for you, as somebody who’s built up a huge following on YouTube — were there any nerves in making that switch? You’ll still do videos and vlogs on YouTube, so those followers won’t go to waste. But you still have to hope those people move over to Twitch.
NE30: Twitch has been so accommodating, and they’re making sure that all of the loyalty badges and tenures of my members will be getting transferred over, and it’s the first time they’ve done this for anyone. So my entire community — if they’ve been supporting me — that recognition will still be there on Twitch. That’s one thing that makes me really confident. Another thing is that — you know, I’ve worked really, really hard to build up a community and have a family-friendly community. And you could almost say I’ve become friends with my audience and with my community. A lot of them really really support me, and I’m just focused on the fact that I get some incredible support. I’m going to try to entertain and do the best that I can to entertain people that want to follow me, and I absolutely know that a lot of people will. Because at the end of the day, it’s still going to be the same me. Nothing has changed — it’s just the platform that changed.
youtube
You mentioned having a family-friendly stream — one of the things you are known for is your manners. Please and thank you. How did that become such a staple for you?
NE30: This was just one of those things when I’d be interacting with my chat. As with any chat, [fans] try to help you. They’ll try to say, “Nick, you missed that!” or “Nick, go back there!” And the way I interpret it — because with text online, it’s hard to interpret tone and how people are saying things. I was interpreting it as rude, and I explained to them how I interpreted their messages, and I’m like, “Guys, maybe add a please and thank you on the end, and I’d be more than willing to do what you guys are asking me to do.” I would reinforce that behavior in the chat, only responding to people who would say please and thank you, and then eventually it just kind of became a thing that people recognize me for and think that it’s all I say.
Is it hard to keep that same energy all the time? In the streams that I’ve watched, you’ve always been chill and happy even when things might not go your way. Your “tired” is a lot of people’s peak energy. How do you maintain that?
NE30: I think it’s a combination of things. No. 1 is just being grateful for what you have. Every day before I start my stream, I’m like, “Oh my God. Wow. I get to live a dream job, I get to play video games for a living.” That definitely helps keep you motivated.
Another thing is I know that so many kids are watching that I want to try to set as good of an example as I can. I get so many emails where people say, “Nick, I’m so glad that I can turn on your stream with my five-year-old in the room and not have to worry about you swearing or getting angry.” I always think of those moments, and I’m like, “OK, keep it cool. You get to live an amazing life, an amazing job.” And I just want to try to set the best example that I can and influence people in a positive way.
I know many people just want to watch the best Fortnite players possible, and obviously you’re one of them —
NE30: Thank you very much!
But I think part of the entertainment value of your stream is when your parents get involved. What’s that like?
NE30: With my parents, my mom, she’ll help even behind the scenes. She just does so much, and I think it’s kind of nice to get them involved. I really enjoy that, and it gives people another way to relate.
youtube
Do you ever show up to these events with people screaming “please and thank you” and just stand there and tell yourself, “I can’t believe this is my life”?
NE30: [laughs] The last fan meet-up I did at the Fortnite Pro-Am, there were so many people. Not everybody was able to get a picture because the line was so big, and people were waiting around the fence and screaming, “Please and thank you!” I got everyone to do push-ups outside in 35-degree weather [95 degrees Fahrenheit]. The fact that I can do that and inspire people in a positive way through fitness doing push-ups — I mean, it will never get old, and I’m just always so grateful that I can do that, and I want to continue to be the best example of a person that I can.
Most consecutive push-ups you’ve ever done?
NE30: I don’t know if you’d believe this, but when I was younger I would do push-ups every single day. When I was lighter and younger, I’m talking 14, I would do 200 push-ups in a row. The most I’ve done recently is about 80.
Whenever we cross paths, I’m challenging you to a push-up competition.
NE30: Bring it! You better come prepared!
I’m going to get into the hard-hitting questions here because I am a big important journalist. Can you please explain why you microwave your ice cream?
NE30: OK, let me do some clearing up here: people think I microwave my ice cream to the point where it’s melted, like completely melted and it’s a liquid —
Can I stop you right there for a second? Because in your Twitch announcement video, that looked like SOUP!
The Big Announcement! https://t.co/osyFjCi6Ve pic.twitter.com/SYfPVUbuet
— Nick Eh 30 (@NickEh30) August 29, 2019
NE30: [laughing] That was definitely overdone! I want you to think of McDonald’s or Dairy Queen soft-serve ice cream. It’s a soft type of ice cream versus the tub that you get, and it’s rock-hard frozen. It’s like taking a piece off the side of the top versus in the center — the side is usually a little more melted and a little more soft.
That’s fair because I don’t microwave mine, but I do need a more solid consistency, where it’s almost chewy? It’s weird, I don’t know, but that video took me out, man. I was like, “There’s no way that was appetizing, even for him.”
NE30: I had to do that take like 20 times to get it right, and it was only in there for like 0.5 seconds. But I took like 20 bites of that melted, disgusting ice cream.
Were you actually throwing that down, or were you spitting it out for each take?
NE30: I was actually eating it because I didn’t want to make a mess. We didn’t have another bowl, but yeah, I was eating it all. I probably gained a solid pound by the time I left.
Do you have any other weird food habits? Not that that one’s really weird, but just others where it’s like “what are you doing?”
NE30: I pour the milk before the cereal.
That’s a problem.
NE30: That’s a problem, I know. I’ve heard that from a lot of people. When I have tea in the morning — when I was younger anyway, not anymore — but I’d have tea as well as some toast, with peanut butter on the toast. I would dip the peanut butter and toast into the tea, so it would almost get soft and mushy, and then you take it out, and you bite it, and it’s consumed in the tea, so it’s moist. It’s pretty gross now that I think about it, but that’s what I used to do.
Would you do that today?
NE30: I mean, honestly I wouldn’t mind doing it. It definitely tastes good. I think it sounds gross, but it tastes good. But I don’t do that anymore.
You should do that on stream one of these days, just for old time’s sake. A throwback Thursday, if you will.
NE30: It would definitely trigger a lot of people, so only when I’m feeling extra positive. [laughs]
