Maybe Allen is suppose to be the "Adam" for Innocence like how the Earl is "Adam" for the Dark Matter side. Adam will be the one to populate (though w/all this flood talk it's technically Noah but dgm isn't a copy paste of it's inspirations) or decide what God the world will live under. In the Bible Adam failed his duty and Lucifer became the god of the world under Adam's watch. Jesus is often referred to the 2nd Adam who died to cover all sins (even original started by Adam and who will later -
2 come back again during the end days (final battle) to save humanity from destruction and take away Lucifer's control of Earth and god status of it. Then Give humanity back it's authority of Earth. Does this sound a little familiar? Kind of what the Noah have been spouting about gods and current humanity's fate. The Innocence might have picked Allen to be their Adam to enforce their plans for Earth. But this is dgm and there's one issue Allen has. He Dies Thinking Another Can Do It Better. -
3 Not only that. We've seen in DGM the 2 sides of this War aren't so black and White. What does Innocence want? Are the Noah wrong in how they do things but ultimately telling the truth about other things? If Allen wants to save the world I think he's going to have to not conform to any 1 side we've seen so far. So far no side really prioritizes saving humanity/Akuma or trying to understand everything going on like Allen. Allen has to escape the fates both Innocence and Noah desire of him -
4 and keep questioning status quo if he wants to do any long lasting good. Which thankfully is actively doing. But he also has to sacrifice himself... Better. Past Allen sacrificed himself for Nea and New thinks he'll do it willingly again when he figures it out. But Allen needs to really enforce in himself, yes he's important and ONLY he can save the world in the best way possible. Sacrifice is a noble thing but Allen can't do it too recklessly. He has to know when/how it can be used the best.
Oooh very interesting points about the Bible! I admit my knowledge there kinda dates from a while back so that’s always interesting to hear back. I’ve mentioned before not being too too found of the Allen/Jesus stuff (or well more like “I want to find more in the Ancient Testament before jumping to the New one) but like you said i doubt it’s a 1/1 equivalent when it comes to its inspirations (after all yeah, “Adam” and “Noah” already share a character not to mention the fact Mana is... a Cain figure if i don’t mix up the two? so yeah that’s a lot to just keep mixing up) so for all we know that would fit.
But also from what you’re developping if i’m getting it right we could be in a situation where the Innocence wants Allen to be the Second Adam (so kind of the Jesus part?) but ultimately Allen runs away from the Innocence. He wants to find another way. He questions both statusquos offered to him. So there Allen seems more like he’s rejecting whatever role “God(s)” would put on him to walk his own path.
And you are entierely right about the both sides and their actions. There is something extremely confusing because the Earl does mention there is a secret to the Akuma and the Black Matter that does make it all the more puzzling.
If we go by the Flood story, we could almost expect the Earl to pick some “animals to survive the Flood” type of people but this is clearly not the treatment given to the Akuma, first the way they are picked would be seriously weird if it was the case (why would it be the people who are loved that are saved and not the people who loved so hard their love had powers that challenged death for instance), second because there is a complete disregard about how the human soul evolves (Not hesitating to kill the Akuma, from Road making them self explode to Skinn beating one up, and the fact each evolutions consumes the soul and crashes it, which we’ve seen graphically described both from Allen’s eye on each evolution and on how the Dark Matter felt on Alma)
But there IS something going on with the Akuma and this is extremely puzzling if this is the part of humanity they are trying to preserve, unless there are far more secrets we are yet to discover about the Noah’s sides. But there we are: the Noah sides is full of secrets. There is also this whole focus they have by “playing by the rules” when the Order does develop the Third Exorcist Program.
So the whole morale the Noah have is still a weird one and far too complex for just “we want to destroy all of humanity”. Especially considering that there is a focus also on the Earl having a softer side for some humans in the very chapter in which he mentions the secret of the Akuma and i still don’t geeeet itttt.
Meanwhile the innocence have a more clear goal but shady execussion: Destroying the Noah and the Dark Matter. And it’s not even really “saving” people anymore per se, it’s almost like saving people is a sidenote. Or at least that’s how the Order ended up taking it. But let’s be real would the Innocence really want people to be saved this much it wouldn’t do a whole “chosen one” thing with its “apostles”. This is so unnecessary cruel from “the good guys” to force its fighters into the fight while others who would have pure souls would be rejected as fighters just because they’re not around the right innocence at the right time? how do you focus on saving humanity after that?
it’s like the Innocence has this whole righteous belief of the prestige of the Chosen One Narrative at the complete disregard from the fact than humanity is far more intimate than the big picture the Innocence sees the world through.
And the Order had lost its ways due to the very despair the innocence forced them through. Sure if they can save people the better, but when it comes to the Akuma the end justifies the means and they can’t afford to save the souls of all the suffering when there is so little means to do it. So the Order priviligize a branch of humanity instead of another, despite the fact both sides are just as much victims.
to me it feels like both the Innocence and the Dark Matter are lost in their Divine impact and don’t consider the individuals of the wars moreso that they consider their Mighty Goals and the Mighty way it presents itself. So the Noah are all about destorying the World with a side of... doing shady things, while the Order”s ‘preserving the world” comes with conditions of mostly being “or at least let’s destroy those who are hurting the world”.
Allen wants to save people. He’s a destroyer who wants to save. He wants to save all people alike, he even tries to “save” Tyki from his Noah side because his human side deserves to have its happy life away from the war. In the end Allen doesn’t care what the innocence, anything had planned for him. Like yes I think he is the Destroyer of Time, but if it happens it’s not Allen chosing it, it will just be because.. it happened. Because Allen doesn’t care about what the Big Entities put him through
The Entities themselves are the least of Allen’s interest: he uses them more as a tool to save humanity. the Innocence alligns perhaps more with his goals, but as it is for now, neither of the sides actually provide Allen with what he especially wants: to protect. Not to destroy.
So there is a lot to be said about Allen rejecting both path the Noah and the Innocence is paving in front of him. In the end like Cross says. “A path is something you create as you walk it.”. So neither sides would force Allen onto one. He will create his own.
And I think that’s what is most likely to be happening with Allen himself. And like you said, neither sides are extremely trustworthy at this point and Allen rejected them both.
So when it comes to sacrifice- yeah Allen tends to self sacrifice a lot and it seems both sides are expecting him to do so to. And in a way he still refuses to give in without trying to fight back at leasT.
The finality of how he would be willing to give himself up... I think the thing is that Allen doesn’t see Death as “a sacrifice for othrs” because there is so much far more he can do while being alive. Sacrificing his whole freedom, his possibilities for happiness by walking away from the war when he lost his innocence are htings Allen is willing to do: but die is something you would truly have to put him in a corner for him to decide to do it. There is so much more that he can sacrifice than his own life.
It’s just... gahh such a meeeess and it hurts a lot orz. I feel like i lost myself into my point there though so huh... sorry? Hope it remains clear skjhfdkj

Stranger to most, well known to few - chapter two
Summary: When a magical ritual happened, Allen Walker vanished, replaced by a strange man with red hair who resembled Allen. It was annoying as hell, but Kanda had to rectify the situation. Though, with Kanda’s renowned people skill, convincing a melodramatic scientist-slash-magician might take forever, much to his dismay.
Relationship: Kanda Yuu/Allen Walker, platonic Nea Walker/past!Allen Walker
Note: Screw one headcanon, I will put in all headcanons I have right now. And make the most out of them.
Edit: Changed the chapter’s title. The old one was meant for a later chapter.
Chapter 2: Introduction and escape
Getting away from the Noah before any serious talk was proper business code.
Despite being under Kanda’s death stare, the man wasn’t intimidated at all. Rather, he looked amused.
“So this is what I wake up to after the ritual. My, how fortunate I am.”Anyone could tell a shit-eating grin when they saw one, and right now it was on the man’s face.
“What are you blabbering about, four-eyes? Who are you? Where is Allen Walker?” Kanda snarled. He was so sure that the ritual was to bring back the Fourteenth. However, the result had been the man in front of him. From what he had said, he fucking knew something about it.
The man, still grinning, gestured to both Kanda and the Noah, who by now had stopped squabbling and was burning holes into the man with their eyes. “Oh come on, mister exorcist. Two greatest forces on this world are looking at me like I’m a threat. If this isn’t a feat then what is?”
Kanda just glared harder.
“Ah, did you mean the ceremony? It is to bring me and another back to life by sacrificing a third one, whom I presume to be your ‘Allen Walker’. The other one is Nea, but you already knew that.” The man made a show of looking around in a casual manner as if he was standing in a park and not a battlefield. “Do you see him?”
“Just you, four-eyes.” He barked, feeling his blood boil in his veins. First Exorcist business, next a Noah's vessel. And now, a sacrifice for some crazy spell. Just how much more misfortune Allen Walker must suffer before fate called it quit?
The red head merely raised a hand to push up his glasses. “So it is half done, huh?”
The words rang clear in Kanda’s head. In his knowledge, spells, especially sacrifices, produced effects equaled to the amount of power provided to them. The ritual had been to trade Allen’s life for two’s but only one got revived, so maybe the beansprout wasn’t gone yet. But, before Kanda could even think about what to do though, he would need all information about the ritual first, which only those Noah and four-eyes had.
The choice was obvious.
“You seem awfully interested, mister exorcist.” Four-eyes chose that moment to speak up. Kanda looked straight at him and shivered, recognizing the interest in those silver eyes. The Order’s scientists had the same look whenever they found something that piqued their curiosity.
“Give up. That man is ours.” Wisely’s voice cut in, prompting Kanda to turn around. The fucker must have read his mind again.
The Noah had summoned more Akuma through their gate. Except Wisely who refused to actively fight, there were three Noah and their henchmen while Kanda was alone. Well, not truly, if he reluctantly counted in Link and four-eyes, who had Crown Clown. The CROW was more likely to grab four-eyes and bolt as soon as possible, though.
“Are you Noah hunting me?” The red head’s expression was surprisingly neutral, his eyes calculating.
“Are those glasses for fashion only?” Kanda couldn’t help the sarcastic remark.
“For many purposes unfathomable to you.” The man retorted. “Here’s a deal, mister exorcist: get me out of here, and I will disclose your Allen Walker’s status.”
That perked Kanda’s attention. Four-eyes was the one currently in control of Allen’s body. Of course he might know.
“Why should I care about a dead person?” He tried to fish for more. A confirmation. A denial. Something to determine his next course of action.
The man smiled, not taking the bait. “You do not think he’s dead, mister exorcist. That or I am blind, which, isn’t true at all. Anyway, I will not say anything until I’m safe.”
That answer helped Kanda settle on the deal. “You know running on foot won’t cut it.” He changed topic with the subtlety of a raging tornado, but like he gave a damn.
Four-eyes’ smile took on a condescending quality. “I can open a gate like the Noah,” No wonder he was conceited: he shared Allen’s knowledge of the White Ark. “You will have to buy me time though, because my memory is still a bit messy to remember the full sequence for it. Also, I hope you like playing bodyguard, since the enemy can follow.”
“Don’t worry about the last part, four-eyes. Just be quick.” Kanda then charged forward, the same time as the Noah.
“That reminds me,” Nicholas called after him with a flippant tone. “My name is Nicholas Marian. Nick, if you like. And you?”
Maybe Kanda should stab him. After the problem had been solved, obviously.
“Kanda. Now shut up!” He shouted back, then threw himself into the fray.
This time, the roles in the fight were reversed: Kanda and Link tried to block the Noah from reaching Nicholas while they strived to capture the man. Kanda ducked his head to avoid a blow, letting a talisman fly past and explode in Tyki’s face. With a whisper, he released the Second Illusion, jumped high into the air before driving the blades into an Akuma. Using the traction of withdrawing his weapons, Kanda propelled himself back toward the Noah below, his swords’ edge out in a chopping motion. Tyki dodged in time by moving back a few steps. At the third, he bounced back toward Kanda with his hand throwing out, intending to take advantage of the vulnerable moment of him landing. Link stopped him short with a flying kick, sailing over Kanda’s hunched form.
From the crouching position, Kanda launched at the other two Noah, who were running to their target. Seeing him coming, they each raised their weapons to deflect. Several seconds passed in a standstill as Kanda exerted more force to hold his opponents in place, then the two Noah swept his swords to the side.
It dragged on for a while. Akuma were soon wiped out by either Mugen or Noah’s powerful blast of Dark Matter. Wisely, though relatively free, didn’t summon more of those damn things and only idled at one spot far from the brawl. Which was rather odd in Kanda’s opinion, since the fucker could just go and snatch Nicholas away while he’s busy.
All of a sudden, a barrage of tiny crown-shaped rings flew past Kanda to Wisely’s feet, making him jump to left. Two more rounds followed, landing a step or two in front of the fucker; their impact dug up and scattered dust in the air causing the Noah to cough and tear up. A ball of light, the power of which was not from Innocence, hit him squarely in the chest. He abruptly dropped to ground, twitching violently.
Perplexed, Kanda cast a glance behind his back. What he saw was a figure cladded in white cloak, the fabric fluttering gently in the wind. Thin claws had grown from his left hand, extended in a pointing gesture. The monochrome mask perched sideway on the hood covering the head with the feather trim fluffed up, hiding the face of the wearer. The sight was so familiar that Kanda’s breathing stopped for a moment.
He thought he was seeing Allen.
“Do not try to play with my brain, ever.” The illusion was shattered by the ice in Nicholas’ voice. Kanda blinked, took a deep breath, and looked. His eyes zoomed in at the Innocence’s different design - wispy patterns made of zigzag lines and geometric shapes, the waning light of magic at one talon’s tip, blood red hair and a face lacking expression.
Kanda tore his gaze away. He couldn’t believe that he had confused Allen with fucking Nicholas. Though they had the same body, they were still two different people, for God's sake. That thought alone made him angry to the point of wanting to kick himself, but now wasn’t the time for trivials.
Kanda focused back on his opponent. The sudden display had made a window of opportunity for him. He gave a hard kick to one Noah’s stomach, making him recoil before slashing at the other’s arm. The Noah backed away, fast enough to avoid having a severed limb, but not for a deep wound running from shoulder to waist.
The fight resumed. After what happened, the Noah were more cautious, watching for any attack from Nicholas whilst going against Kanda and Link. As for Nicholas, he simply stood there with a straight face on. The man made no further moves, but he didn’t dismiss the Innocence, either. Nothing more dangerous than an unpredictable adversary like he currently was.
But then, he hollered. “It’s done, mister Kanda.”
True to Nicholas’ words, six giant concentric circles with a big question mark inside appeared on the ground behind him, glowing faintly. Immediately, Kanda turned around and made a beeline for the gate. The Noah followed but were impeded by the relentless stream of rings fired by Nicholas. Kanda released a swarm of insects for good measure before one final leap. To his annoyance, Link also got in the gate.
Bright light flashed, making Kanda squint. When his vision returned to normal, he found himself no longer at the pulverized Campbell estate. The town they were transported to was unknown to Kanda. Still, he didn’t lower his level of awareness for the possibility of nearby Akuma.
“No Noah? How peculiar.” Nicholas commented as he took in the surrounding.
“Your gate was of the White Ark. They use the Black’s.” Kanda answered while sheathing Mugen.
“And your friend has abandoned us without an introduction,” Nicholas was talking about Link. “A shame, really. He seems like fine company.”
Kanda already knew that when Link’s aura faded. Good riddance, too. “Don’t mention the bastard when talking to me.” He growled.
“Oh well. What’s gone is gone,” Nicholas started walking in a direction. From the relaxed posture, Kanda guessed he knew the place. Or he didn’t care. An hour or two with few interactions wasn’t enough to get a good read of someone like this man.
“Where are you going?” Kanda marched side by side to four-eyes.
The scientist hungry look was back on Nicholas’s face. “A nice place to stay. Once that is settled, you and I are going to have lunch and talk. There’s a lot we both need to know” He smiled and Kanda shuddered.

Yeah same. My indifference to Chaoji has nothing to do with his dislike of Allen. But is he really the character representing the everyman? After you explain it then I could see it. I always saw him representing the black/white mentality sheep who see the world one way and don't acknowledge any other despite any evidence otherwise (ex, The majority of the Order so quick to condemn Allen as a traitor noah despite all the evidence contrary. Central says he's the devil so he is. Bias is bias). -
2 If anyone represents the everyman I always saw it as Johnny. Hoshino called Johnny vital since he was the normal human everyman trying to suceed in a supernatural/dangerous war. He also came into this more or less innocent to the horrors until the Order invasion and the Alma arc. He has no powers. No prophecy. No enemy interested in him. He's just there as a weak insignificant normal human trying to save his friend. They both could be everyman but as this point Johnny fills the role better. -
3 (and again started getting character focus post exorcist Chaoji. Unlike Chaoji Hoshino seems to be really fond of Johnny since she never planned on his character being as plot important as he is now. But she always found time to develop Johnny of all characters before he became important. Which is great because I love what Johnny's character has become).
You know that Chaoji talk got me thinking how he's usually labelled as the everyman type by fandom. But is he really? Chaoji's whole family was killed by akuma when he was a baby. He was taken in by Anita's crew (who worked w/the Order) and then they were also killed by akuma. He was so distraught he was the only survivor who tried to die alongside the crew. Chaoji never had a normal life. His life was always haunted by the Akuma. He might act full of smiles but he's capable of a pretty -
2 creepy temper (that nightmare face he made after Allen saved his life from Tyki. Yikes). He keeps it under control most of the time but boy if you even feel differently about something he hates. It's over. He's not going to forgive you no matter how good a person you are. Chaoji is a damaged soul. Even before the Order the Akuma took any chances away of him having a normal. Therefore I propose a new label: the angryman! Because he's probably perpetually angry (maybe why he likes Kanda? Lol).
Ahah oh my god okay so that’s all together.
And.. yeah you have a point i may have lurped it a bit more together to make my point. (the angryman kjdhfdkjf u are RIGHT. Oh boy that reminds me that back in the days there were theories Chaoji would awaken the Noah of Anger (since Skinn died) due to his anger issues. I don’t think there is anything that really make sense in this theory but it’s here xD)
I still think Chaoji is more “normal” than everyone else?
(also i can assure you no one else than me in the fandom called him the everyman i think. I kiiinda spoke too quickly and most people who discuss Chaoji tends more to say that he’s the every-ass)
I do think you’re right tho for the black/white mentality, and..... oh man it says a lot about how i see humanity if i said “that’s what being the everyman is”.....
But I think it’s also this the thing is that there’s not only one sort of “Everyman”, and Johnny represents the best ouf of the “Everyman” to me. Of really the one who would want to help in any shape of form and has no real angst reasons to do it except that it is what’s best. So yeah I completely agree on the Johnny’s reasoning.
And yeah the more i re-read your reasoning the more i’m inclined to say you’re right and i spoke too quickly. Chaoji doesn’t really fit the everyman category, and more so the whole “black and white” mentality. I think it’s then more... The guy who was involved in the war but was powerless about it, had the time to form strong opinions about it, very black and white, and who against all odds, managed to get a “bigger part” of a soldier in it, late enough to not feel any of the Order’s bad side, all of that.
TI think i was thinking everyman because of how he tries to kill Allen during the Tyki incident actually, but i meant it more as the “normal guy” and the sharp parallelism between how, when given the possibility to act, Johnny would walk in for good stuff, to restore, to heal, to understand, while Chaoji leaned toward destruction, harsh and quick actions, letting his judgement cloud him. And it makes for a neat parallelism of “Two Normal People Without Power who knows enough about the war to be prepared about it, reacting differently at the Hero’s compassion - one to help, the other to destroy”. and I was thinking about it specifically since now we have a full arc of Johnny helping allen while Chaoji is hunting them down.
But you’re right that the backstory doesn’t match the idea of the everyman all that well. It’s just the “powerless viewer who suddenly gets too special and decide to act on what he was powerless about before without having put in question how he felt so again” kind of way? I mean. People who are not involved in the wars can easily see it in a Black and White fashion, it’s kindof a way to cope: since you’re not supposed to ever be in a situation where you can act up about it. And Chaoji developped himself that way. When he found himself in a situation where he could act about it, he never reexamined his bias.
When you compare him to the others exorcists we know: Timothy, Miranda and Krory at least had never heard of the War before, of Akuma, of Innocence ect... so they’re creating their judgement as they go. Kanda and Lenalee has a past with the Akuma and Innocence but it was so shaped then by the Order and how it hurt them that it left them different ways to apprehend the war, both in more self-motivated goals than the war in itself. Not touching Lavi and Bookman bc.... yeah. Them. And we don’t know enough about the backstory of anyone else in the Exorcist Sides.
Meanwhile Chaoji has a set past of suffering and acting against the Akuma, but in a passive way. Like someone who read the news everyday and starts to get angry without being able to take it out. And Suddenly, he can. So instead of trying to discover and figure out how the war works, he just gets content with his previous ideology.
.. i don’t know if that makes sense.
but.... that does make it closer to the angry-man :”D so yeah i’m all with you there. Spoke too quickly previously ahah :3
