i need there to be no canon relationships so the shippers who tell each other to die will finally shut the fuck up. like, i don't care if izuocha or bakudeku end up canon, but your attitudes are juvenile as fuck and you need to grow up. you're all about "they're kids" until you want your ship to be canon. the hypocrisy is blinding.

Standard shonen endings have rotted some people's brains. I've seen so many dudebros disappointed that Izuku didn't at the very least "bag his girl" as some sort of reparation for losing his quirk. And so much Ochako slander for "ghosting" Izuku for 8 years for being quirkless (not true btw, leak mistranlastion) because she wasn't explicitly Izuku's endgame love interest in typical shonen fashion. I even saw a tweet doing crazy numbers (70k+ likes) suggesting that Izuku should've gotten with Hatsume because at least she spent 8 years working on his suit....? Ask yourself why you feel like Izuku needed a canon love interest post-time skip to be happy. And then ask yourself why you hate women and view them as the MC's "much-deserved" reward for saving the day.

Izuocha week 2024 Day 6: Cycle/Miracle

Now that ch430 is officially out!

I want to talk about this:

I want to talk about how Uraraka and Bakugou were positioned within the last chapter, and the balance that was created between them with regards to their connection to Izuku. 

In the frames above, we see that Uraraka and Bakugou have both integrated new aspects into their hero costumes that emulate these aspects of Izuku’s costume:

They both pay a subtle homage to Hero Deku in their everyday work, carrying Izuku's dream forward where he can’t. Throughout the manga, these two characters have gotten closer and closer to Izuku, making everyone question who Izuku would end up with romantically. While I think it’s obvious that the relationship between Kacchan and Izuku was given much more attention than the relationship between Izuku and Uraraka (and I ship bkdk heavy), I am a fan of the no-cannon-ships ending. I like that Izuku’s future is open-ended and that we can play around with it. 

I’m inclined to believe that Horikoshi attempted to create a sense of neutrality at the end of the manga by attempting to balance Izuku’s closest relationships, despite Kacchan previously being dubbed, “the closest person to Izuku Midoriya."

In the last 6 chapters, the plot seems to balance out, with Bakudeku getting their much anticipated hospital reunion in a dedicated chapter, and Izuocha getting their anticipated cliff scene in a dedicated chapter. In both cases, Izuku’s closest and strongest friends break down in front of him and he attempts to comfort them. Before things can get too deep between them, the scene shifts to include other people. For the hospital scene, it is All Might praising them, and for the cliff scene it is Tsu jumping in to hug Uraraka. 

The final chapter of the manga, creates an interesting visual balance between Kacchan and Uraraka.

Whenever we see Uraraka, Bakugou is always positioned next to or below her:

I don’t think Horikoshi completely avoided leaning towards Bkdk,* as Kacchan does get the last word (something I think I'll get into in another post). However, on the surface, the balanced attention given to the Izuocha and Bkdk relationships in the last 6 chapters, and the visual balancing of Bakugou and Uraraka, creates a pacifying neutrality.

Their shared space indicates that these two have something in common. That “thing" is their closeness to Izuku. To what end will closeness lead? Well, Horikoshi leaves that for us to decide. 

*When I say bkdk here, I don’t mean their relationship as strictly romantic. Who am I to say whether Horikoshi truly thinks of them as a romantic pair? But he surely does see their relationship as deeply emotional and vital to both of their characters.

the izuocha vs bakudeku shipwar not dying off being getting STRONGER after the manga ended is SOOOO funny. I really enjoy watching it go down. I’ll scroll by a reel of one bashing the other and it’s just so entertaining. The manga ended and no one won and they’re both throwing rocks harder at each other.

and I think one of the things that makes it so absurdly funny to me is that, I’ve never seen a fandom-wide HUGE ship war, like THE ship war of the fandom, THE brawl for who gets the protagonist, be between a straight and gay ship. Talk about diversity in mainstream media, amirite? Like OF COURSE it’s bnha the fandom known for its gay shipping, but, bnha is still a shounen anime!! It has a LOT of dudebros! The bnha fandom has a lot of queers and a lot of dudebros, and you thought bnha was done? No, this is THE final battle, and they’re going head to head duking it all out.

So I’ve seen the new chapter where we can see Ochaco sobbing over Toga. My only question is why people think this is the right time to have Izuku confess to her? This isn’t Izuocha hate, I love them, but why would this be a good time? She’s openly grieving; confessing right now would be completely out of character for Deku and second of all, it’s very inappropriate timing. If anything, Deku is probably gonna empathize with her, considering his situation with Shigaraki.

You guys also only ever bring up Ochaco when Dekus involved, or as a matter of fact, whenever she’s paired with anyone as a love interest. You guys make her whole character “the love interest” and completely disregard HER feelings and HER current situation.

Anyone who thinks confessing your love to your crush while she’s sobbing about her dead friend is a right thing to do…. Idk what to say to yall.

Also, anyone who thinks izuocha is gonna happen within the next 2 chapters is insane. I mean, Horikoshi literally said he doesn’t like happy endings. Izuocha would be a happy ending. Overall, I just hate to see people mischaracterizing Deku and Ochaco, thinking they’re gonna confess in a time of sorrow, and thinking that izuocha is gonna magically become endgame in only 2 chapters.

ALSO as an addition after replying/reading to some comments; we need to let them HEAL after the whole war they just went through. Girl they just won a WAR and now she’s grieving. LET THE GIRL HEAL! goodnight.

people often talk about hating ships the fandom likes or vice versa. but we need to talk about liking two ships that the shippers for each want the other dead.

a good example would be izuocha and bakudeku shippers, though personally i only like bakudeku.

for me it’s that i ship satosugu and gojohime. if i told a satosugu enjoyer i liked gojohime i would make them scream cry but if i told a gojohime shipper i liked satosugu i would be given a monologue on how “boys cant be friends without being shipped together” that was just blatant homophobia.

istg if deku and uraraka end the series together i'm never trusting another author to finish their their series correctly bcus sure while their platonic relationship is pretty fleshed out and developed, uraraka's 'crush' honestly just seemed to be there in order to further develop uraraka's character and her relationship with toga rather than to set up a future romantic relationship to deku if i'm being honest

I CAN’T STOP THINKING ABOUT how I saw someone’s slideshow on tiktok the other day and they said something like

IzuOcha becoming canon would mean that Horikoshi doesn’t know how to write romance. Their relationship isn’t even close to being romantic (besides the somehow undeniable?? argument that it’s shonen so it has to be canon, spoiler, it IS deniable since Horikoshi said he does what he wants loool). Maybe there was a crush from Ochaco at some point, but she’s past that and it’s obvious whenever we see their interactions past ~4th season. If they would become canon, that would be just bad writing. It wouldn’t make sense storywise.

BUT he DOES know how to write romance - look at the implied canon pairings like KamiJirou, HagaOjiro, KiriMina. we all agreed on them being canon not because they blush at each other, but they CARE for each other and WORRY about the other person

*insert KamiJirou first war scene „do it for someone who is closest to your heart”*

AND… because the canon pairings in bnha also have this little funny thing in common. Both sides inspire each other and in some ways they want to resemble each other too!!! I’ve noticed it especially in KiriMina, first when in Kirishima’s backstory he says that the „horns” he stylizes his hair into are inspired by Mina’s horns, and then when she said in s5ep25 that she created Acidman because of Kiri’s Unbreakable.

So, it looks like Horikoshi KNOWS how to write romance - because this is how it looks in real life. You care about your s/o, you worry about them, they inspire you, you know stuff about them because you’re curious about them, you want to spend time with them etc. It’s literally how every canon implied ship in BNHA is written. It’s not a surprise. It’s just good writing.

not IzuOcha for sure (they had their little moments but PLEASE we get TWO scenes of Ochaco moving on from Izuku. this isn’t canon at all)

it’s already canon because it’s written the way Horikoshi writes romances. He isn’t oblivious what he’s creating BECAUSE IT’S INTENTIONAL. THEY ARE CANON.

my guess is: IzuOcha isn’t going to become canon, but I’m not sure if ANY of the pairings above will ask each other out etc / make it official. I just think it will be obviously hinted and my hero will end without any labels attatched to the pairings. This isn’t my only theory but yeah, the only thing that I’m sure about is IzuOcha aren’t supposed to be canon.
