It’s really tiring shipping Elriel.

I feel like we are in this constant up-hill battle, against people who will fully misinterpret or twist canon.

It also sucks that we are perpetually dunked on, by the fandom as a whole, for shipping Elain and Azriel.

I think people “hate” Elriel so much, bc they either really really “love” Lucien as a character, and think he “deserves to be happy” - meaning Elain.

And because they really really “hate” Elain, and don’t want to see her with a bat boy. Because she somehow is underserving??

People also really quite like Gwyneth. Which, each to their own..but I’d say she’s a mid character, who functions best as a self insert. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I don’t know. The fandom in general just gives me a massive ick. I love Elain, and unpopular opinion - I think the men are mid at best.

Ive been in this fandom a long time, so I think I am relatively immune to its bullshit by now.

The wildest takes. The raging misogyny. The deserving/undeserving thing that is super popular here. The pliant bones. The stupidest takes. Thw fanfics where Elain was ripping the necklace off Gwyn's neck and calling Emerie a 'broken cripple'.

Do I truly understand how a flower girl can be that controversial? After all this time, I really don't.

Do I truly understand how people can get that insanely obsessed with a guy who had 34 lines of dialogue in 5 books? Also, no.

At some point, you just have to enjoy what you enjoy and not pay too much attention to the antis.

I like Elriel. Nothing anyone says will make me stop liking them. I like her. I like him. I like them together. End of. Everything else is just noise.

Without Elriel, I wouldn't have met amazing people, and I wouldn't have read amazing books. I wouldn't have found a treasure trove of incredible fanfiction. Wouldn't have seen some great art. That's what I cherish. The connections that I made and the friendships that I built.

I think it's always more about what positives you get from something, the things that ultimately enrich your life, as opposed to the negatives that you encounter. There is always going to be something that marrs the experience, but it's the experience that matters.

Yeah, it gets frustrating, but I say--enjoy the ride.

Unpopular opinion: Alastair is overrated

Sure, he's trying to do better, and sure, he has grown, but that doesn't mean that the Merry Thieves are obliged to forgive him or that Matthew deserves hate for making comments about him. I've seen how bad bullying, even non-physical, can get at my school. Stealing lunches, destroying projects (that took weeks to make), inscribing lewd messages on toilets about the one they're bullying, making vulgar comics, forcing others to come together and get someone else intro trouble... I managed to avoid it because I sat next to one of the bullies in class and showed her the answers to every tests so I was classified as 'a good sort of nerd, let her be', but a lot of others weren't lucky. You don't become a bully by just spreading a couple of rumors about someone's parents. It's absolutely ridiculous when people hate on James and Matthew for not forgiving Alastair. I swear if he weren't gay everyone would be after him with pitchforks.

Charlotte is constantly working, Henry is constantly focused on his inventions. In theory, this is not a problem, GOOD FOR THEM✨ But there's a reason why Charles is so private and Matthew doesn't trust parents his feelings and thoughts.

- Charlotte is the first consul and therefore she works even more than necessary to prove that she deserves this position😭 -> Charles is so into politics cause he spent his whole childhood helping mom with sth, Matthew can't talk with her cause barely sees her (it was mentioned in tlh)

- Henry barely leaves his laboratory -> good for science, bad for children. He loves them and will fight for them, but he's not the best dad when it comes to taking care of the kids (Matthew took care of him)

- Therefore any, I'll repeat, ANY other misunderstanding in this family could lead to the same consequences.

Am I alone in thinking that clip was enough to solve the Umut stuff? Like I’m not worried it was resolved so easily between them because let’s be honest, they’re siblings…they’re constantly in each other’s space and the last clip we saw with Umut he wasn’t exactly shunning Isi. He’s clearly just a little brother that’s being teased by his friends…Isi’s identity wasn’t ever really his issue, he’s lived with them long enough to know their identity struggles. The issue was always more about how his own friends responded to Isi.

I dunno - this seemed like a logical resolution to me 🤷🏼‍♀️ plus I’d rather they sorted the Umut stuff sooner because the other issues in Isi’s life are clearly more complex than just their brother being embarrassed about being picked up from football.

Whether this means the writers will now give enough time and space to those more complex issues remains to be seen of course…. 🥴

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I agree about Umut, speaking as someone who is close to my siblings. Especially my big sister, who is four years older than me, is my best friend (we are adults now of course). We are able to talk to each other about anything, we always have one another’s backs, ride or die, and when we’ve had moments where things have been tense or we have fought, we have always made up and been able to resolve things with little to no fanfare. It just takes a conversation and that’s it. This is what it is to be a family with someone. A true family. And this could be by choice or blood or both. You know that you love this person and you know that they love you and you can trust in that so even when things aren’t perfect, or when you go through hardships, or when you feel hurt by one another, you still know that relationship is going to be there and you’re going to be able to count on it and them. (Now I’m emotional). Umut never had any problems with who Isi was until his friend made him feel insecure about it. But he loves his older sibling, and while he may still struggle with some insecurities, I think he really wanted that conversation. He wanted Isi to go after him. He wanted that attention and moment with them. I know because I was that little asshole 13 year old to my 17 year old sister. She was always so cool and I wanted to be just like her, but sometimes you are easily mortified too. It’s just part of being that age. While the writing this season hasn’t been flawless, not every single plotline needs to be solved with a big “teaching moment” or even a big moment at all. When that strong foundation is already there, sometimes a simple and heartfelt conversation is enough.

I know this is irrational but seeing LWJ in CQL always irks me despite never actually having watched it. I’ve heard the actor does a good job but he just doesn’t fit him to me. I literally cringe when I see gifs of him as LWJ. Like sorry but #notmylwj 🤷🏼‍♀️

Unpopular opinion but he doesn't even do that good a job. Aside from the multiple times where he visibly breaks character in the take they went with in the final product he's never standout bad (unlike certain other members of the cast I could mention), but he's not particularly good, either! I suspect he's looking better than he is because LWJ happens to be more or less in the actor's very limited range, which means his performance only occasionally comes across as painfully wooden. Never watch CQL right before or after watching the donghua or just watching a show with genuinely charismatic leads, because while XZ does an excellent job (what demon did that man make a pact with to be so damn good at everything, honestly) WYB is... well, let's say he has a couple scenes where I'm pleasantly surprised by his acting, and the rest of the time the best I can say is that it's usually not distracting. Except when he breaks character, which I mentioned before but I feel the need to bring up again because the director kept that in, so either the director's incompetent or the scenes where WYB breaks character were the best takes of those particular scenes, and honestly I would buy either.

I finally watched the new OC and I have to say… I found it to be very cringy… the juvenile portrayal of hacking, the use of Jet & that other hacker dude, Kilbride, Wheatley helping the police. I found it all farfetched and just… cringe. Did you catch those feelings too or? I thought SVU was better (I know unpopular opinion) notes of positivity: Stabler, Bell, Angela A+ acting. Now your ask was polite. You came in here trying to be respectful, I think, and probably did not anticipate inspiring this response. But svu has a serious representation problem at the moment and that needs to be understood.

When we're talking about not liking last week's SVU, we're talking about the plot that took up most of the first half, where it turns out the attack on the synagogue that was deliberately intended to mirror Kristallnacht turned out to be completely unrelated and orchestrated by a couple of Black kids - not the good Black kid who goes to church! Those bad heathen Black kids - who get thrown under the bus by McGrath, get their lives ruined, and then we're promptly told to forget about all that for the rushed and unsatisfying ending. In a story that centers on racism the chief's own racism is an afterthought. In a story about white supremacy one of the main conspirators is Hispanic? And the main guy the audience interacts with is Serbian. Not in our city, Murphy says, no it's all these people coming to NYC from other places, like NYC doesn't have its own racial tensions to grapple with. Coming on the heels of everything else they've done this season - tossing Kat and Garland in favor of Velasco and McGrath, and the absolutely abominable trap music episode - this is egregious. Then you add in the just general bad writing stuff - the retconning of Murphy and Rollins's arrangement, the random ending, that fucking Merry Christmas line which if left unanswered would have felt right, heavy with meaning and sorrow, but bc of Liv's little you too feels incredibly awkward, all of Liv's friends just standing around looking at her, not even taking a step towards her, even after she's admitted she's not ok, like. Eesh. And you wanna talk about cringe? What about that line about those kids becoming a meme, or McGrath's "I don't have that" while staring dumbfounded at his phone?

But yeah oc has some unrealistic hacking 🤷🏼‍♀️

You know the first half of oc I did find a little slow. I wasn't paying attention. But they drew me back in, and by the end I was hyped and ready for more and that is. Not how svu made me feel. OC is setting up another arc and it takes time to get the pieces into place and I'm ok with some hand wavy technobabble. I watched Stargate for goodness sake. That was nothing lmao

I agree about Jill, she is hands down the most misused character in the entire series. I'll never understand why after 5 they just forgot about her. RE6 would have benefited greatly if she were in it for sure. She hasn't even been in a CGI movie and yet Rebecca has. I don't know 🤷🏼‍♀️

The actual gameplay for RE6 is a lot of fun and the game in its entirety is a visual masterpiece. But the story...the plot holes...the unanswered conflicts. It was a lot...I felt like Leon's story was sacrificed to Helena, who was god awful. It was great to see Sherry again, and unpopular opinion, I liked Jake. The Weskers son approach is weird though, but then again, the entire Wesker Project is an absolute clusterfuck i don't particularly care for.

In real life, there is no way any armed forces would allow someone suffering from PTSD and legitimate head trauma to ever go back on any form of mission, let alone lead anything. But....ya know.

And the Chris and Leon first meet up for fans should have been better...there should have been some sort of scene where they teamed up but instead we got a quick scuffle and a couple conversations. Thanks, Capcom 👍

I also don't like that we never get any resolution to the conflict between Chris and Jake. They literally set up RE7 to be a Jake spinoff at the end of 6. Maybe it was because of fan backlash predominantly not liking him, but still.

And it's true, Piers dying was a last minute change they thankfully made. I was in full panic mode weeks before the release.

I think Capcom does actually care more about Chris than they do Leon, honestly.

With Chris we get a lot of clues about who he is through his desk, diaries, files, load screens etc

Marksman, fishing, motorcycles, cars, girls...that guitar could be his or Jills. It was also noted that he had issues dealing with authority and is short tempered. Which, in earlier games I wish we saw more of. The only "rebel" or "bad boy" characteristic we see at all is his smoking scene in the opening for the uncut version of RE. Then we see some attitude in 5, and in 6 he is the loose cannon he is but honestly he was the authority figure there and no one was going to tell him what to do.

I couldn't tell you the first thing about Leon other than he saw Nick Carter's haircut in 1996 and decided to commit the rest of his life to it.

Leon also had the biggest shift personality wise. I couldn't....and still can't stand him in RE2. He was an annoying little there. And even with being a survivor of Raccoon City, it was still his first day on the job and somehow lead to being a US government agent? Idk. And even though I absolutely love RE4, everything about it, and Leon has some witty sass, he's still monotone and boring. Maybe Chris should make some more jokes and people will lay off his personality a bit.

The remakes of 2 and Nemesis are what they are, I still use the originals as canon for myself. And the Paul Anderson movies don't exist in my mind, and the CGI movies are their own little universe that don't line up with the actual RE timeline if I remember correctly. Leon gets all the movies, sure. I'm happy...very happy...we got Vendetta. But Leon has only been in RE2, 4 and 6.

Now, I'm openly biased towards Chris, but here me out on the appearance thing:

RE1 and Code Veronica both take place in the second half of 1998, so the character models needed to stay very similar. The stylilzing is different, but games and graphics also improved in the years between development.

Chris looked a bit different in the beta version of 5 released in 2005:

He was muscular, but not massive. But because of the racial backlash the trailer received, Capcom had to hit the panic button and alter the entire game and probably story. They should have just changed the setting, I know they wanted something totally different but cmon.

Like, Sheva was never meant to be in the game. I wish they would release the original story they had planned. I did have a lot of fun with the co-op but the plot is severely lacking.

Idk, maybe I'm crazy but I do think between Lost in Nightmares (2006) and the events of RE5 (2009) there is a different in size

Taking on missions and working out were probably the only things he could do to keep his mind clear? It's logical but who knows.

We don't speak of Chris in RE7. We throw that in the trash and forget it ever happened while simultaneously demanding answers from Capcom. Vendetta literally came out the same year, you telling me they couldn't get that model for 7? 😭

RE6 is my personal favorite model, but that's just me. I didn't find the face changes to be all that extreme or noticeable to say it isn't the same dude.

And for RE8, he's pushing 50. Out of every character in RE that has been in games over the years Chris is the only one showing realistic signs of aging

And let me tell you I AM HERE FOR IT.

The ones that suffer the most

I wanted to talk about this for a long time.

I’m a Resident evil addicted, I finished almost every RE game released and I must say that Capcom made some poor choices regarding Jill and Chris, they are EASILY the most mistreated characters in RE Franchise. 

But let’s explain why is that: 

Jill and Chris are survivors, they had to survive in a mansion with a lot of puzzles and zombies, while looking for items that could help them to progress and find a way to reach Brad. 

When they arrive at STARS Office, they are revolted that Umbrella did all that under their noses and innocents were dying because of that and they explained EVERYTHING in a report - but Irons made that go away. 

In the ORIGINAL RE3 we had this special file (Jill’s Diary) 

August 7th Two weeks have passed since that day. My wounds have been healed, but I just can’t forget it. For most people, it’s history now. But for me, whenever I close my eyes, it all comes back clearly. Zombies eating people’s flesh and the screams of my teammates dying. No, the wounds in my heart are not healed yet…

August 13th Chris has been causing a lot of trouble recently. What’s with him? He seldom talks to the other police members and is constantly irritated. The other day, he punched Elran of the Boy’s Crime department just for accidentally splashing Chris’s face with coffee. I immediately stopped Chris, but when he saw me he just gave me a wink and walked away. I wonder what happened to him…

August 15th Midnight. Chris, who has been on a leave of absence for a “vacation,” called me so I visited his apartment. As soon as I walked into his room, he showed me a couple of pieces of paper. They were part of a virus research report entitled as simply as “G”. Then Chris told me that, “The nightmare still continues.” He went on to say that, “It’s not over yet.” Ever since that day, he has been fighting all by himself without rest, without even telling me.

August 24th Chris left the town today to go to Europe. Barry told me that he would send his family to Canada and then he would follow Chris. I decided to remain in Raccoon City for a while because I know that the research facility in this city will be very important to this entire case. In a month or so, I’ll be joining with them somewhere in Europe. That’s when my real battle begins…

For some weird reason this file isn’t available in RE3 Remake. 

But ok, here we see that Chris was doing some investigation - in the RE2RMK  you could see this letter that Chris left in a way that normal people wouldn’t understand - the only thing that Claire says is that “doesnt look like him” but how normies would understand what Chris is like is he is not well represented in media ??????????????????

And Jill had all the detective work in her wall. 

So far so good - we understand the basics about them - they are Special police force, the elite, they had a traumatic experience and they survived to tell the story. 

Some problems until now:

Jill had a MAJOR personality change in RE3 RMK- I honestly like most of that, she is a badass in the originals and she is a badass in the rmk but I still dislike the fact that she swears all the time (specially because in RE1, RE Rev, RE5 she doesn’t do that) 

We can tell a lot about her personality just looking at her room, but I still miss some stuff (I had expectations - so this is not a real problem. but still) like a Vinyl player (since she is probably into classical music), some letters from her father so new players can understand her origin and why is she so good in lockpicking and more about her dog (she had a pic in the original that could’ve been her boyfriend but it was replaced by a dog in RE2 rmk but in RE3 Rmk there in no dog) 

Okay - after you finish the game the only thing we see is this: 

In my opinion this is Chris since he is always associated with Green colors while Jill is associated with blue. 

So my speculation here is that she found him while in the original we had this: 

This is not a major chance but still is important (lore of course - duh) but the problem here is that while Jill is looking for him - Code Veronica is happening. 

So I can only assume two things, they did not show him because they DON’T HAVE A FACE FOR HIM or I am wrong and that is Jill, but if that is Jill so why there is no decent epilogue like the original ? 

Okay, now we are arriving in the real trouble area

I will do RE5 first and the Wii and Rev1 (even tho those two comes first in the lore) 

RESIDENT EVIL 5 

So before the game was release we had some propaganda, including this: 

So have in mind that Jill was dead, I thought that she died and RE5 would explain that shit. 

But in the beginning we see that Chris is looking for her and have in mind that Chris HAD A MAJOR CHANCE IN HIS APPEARANCE, and I’m not talking about his muscles. 

I will not address Chris in CV since he was good in that game but I the team that made CV also made the original, it had CONSISTENCE. 

Here we have Chris, he’s THE classical american soldier protagonist from Hollywood in the 80′s/90′s and he had some omage to TOPGUN

He also shares some traits with his sister

A major trait here is that HE HAS BLUE EYES, typical good looking soldier from US. 

and now let’s have a look at Chris in RE5…

Yeah… I still hate this face even tho I love his Character in this game, this ugly a** monkey looking mf and he had a lot of steroids

So we have some lore to him in RE5, Jill and Chris went to a mansion looking for Spencer (one of the fathers of Umbrella and the one that was behind project Wesker, he wanted to do this Virus so he could live forever, so RE has a good lore, it’s not just about zombies) but when they found him, he was dead and Wesker was by his side, in a fight Jill sacrificed herself to save Chris’s life. 

Chris started doing mission after mission because her body was never found, and he made a name for himself, he became a ‘legend’ inside BSAA and you can see that in the beginning of RE5.

The reason behind the muscles was probably to fight Wesker mano to mano but still is not well made, it really felt weird playing for the first time. 

So now we have a problem here, there is thing that you use in a narrative that is to make someone strong af powerless, and they did that to Jill. (a good example of this is in TWD- Ricky is a fucking legend and Negan made him powerless in the face of a event) 

Jill was used in a Boss fight and that is it… She is not in the game as a character, she is being manipulated and her whole design was changed, she looks like Nina from Tekken. WTF. - BTW, the fact that Wesker had mind control over her created 1000 fics of sex 

 So that is it, my main problem here isnt Jill itself, but it’s the fact that they used her character as a boss even tho she is the heroine, she never appears in RE lore again until some guy inside Capcom said “Well people are asking about Jill so let’s place a file in Rev2 saying that she is in rehab” 

The only time that she appears again is in a 3DS NINTENDO ONLY game, it felt that Capcom simply don’t care about her character. 

By the way Revelations 1 is a great game and was adaptable some years later for PC and consoles

But you think that this is bad, wait until we arrive at RESIDENT EVIL 6 

When I learned that Jill was not in RE6 I was mad… But after I played that game I said “thank you God” that game was bad, transformers kind of bad, it had bad writing, the lore was all over the place and Chris was the one that suffered the most in this game. 

He was responsible for the death of an entire squad, suffered amnesia and people still wanted him in the command 

THEY MADE HIM AN ALCOHOLIC

By the way, the director said that HE WANTED TO KILL CHRIS IN THIS GAME to SUBVERT EXPECTATIONS - so if you liked Piers now that he died only because of that. 

So now let’s analyse what we know: 

The first 2 main characters are not well represented in media until RE6, they don’t know how to re introduce Jill in the games and Chris was reduced to a normal guy at a Russian bar;

But it gets worse… 

Capcom LOVE Leon, we know that. he is always the hero, he is the protagonist in almost every movie and he is always the cool guy so when he get’s a new model, he looks like this:

But When Chris get’s a new face he look like this: 

WHO DAFUQ ARE U, no offense to the model but he has NEGATIVE JAW LINE.

And still he doesn’t look like Claire’s brother, there is no blue/green eyes and he looks younger that he was in 6 (and 6 still uses that ugly character model) 

But let’s go in the lore- we HAVE 0 info on Jill in RE6 / RE7 and no sight of her in RE8 

And speaking of which, they tried to make Chris the bad guy in the trailer so when we play we see “Ohhhh he was not the bad guy, that happened and that is why he did that” 

But still… 

If they are going to do that to his character don’t use this character, shit ! Do something with that Wesker’s son that made 0 sense in RE6 but leave Chris out of this - it really feels that they simply don’t know how to treat him right

And you may think that I may be complaining a lot because of his appearance

But this is him in RE8  

(to me this is some random dude from Russia) 

And this is him in RE:Verse (that is going to be release TOGETHER) 

So this tells me that they have 0 clue of how to handle his looks

Jill got RE3Rmk but it felt like a cheap game compared to RE2Rmk where the original RE3 was SO MUCH BETTER

And this is bad because there are so many new fans joining the fandom only to see 2 great characters suffering from poor director’s choices. 

I’m sorry about this rant, if you like Chris face and looks its okay, really, but dont tell me that Chris from 5/6/8 is the same from 1/CV and if you think im wrong about Jill its fine, but she is an amazing character that could have so much more impact in RE universe (I mean, she never even appeared in a RE movie - animations) 

But it’s sad to see so many characters that receive good representation in media and good games/lore while Jill get’s almost none and Chris is handled like random face guy. 

I was going to talk a little bit more about Rev 1 and RE Umbrella Chronicles but there is no need since Im mad right now and it seems that Capcom has 0 interest in making Code Veronica and Umbrella’s fall after that since their fav boy Leon need a rmk in RE4 even tho RE4 is not that old.

Fun fact: Chris served in the Air force, so yeah, to me even Tom Cruise looks more like Chris than Chris from the games
